Festrock. Hørte den to ganger på rappen. Klassiker.
Kind of amazed this was their debut album, didn’t realise how many of their big songs were on this. I do think this is ‘the’ album to represent 80’s rock and it is pretty astounding how many tracks we still hear all these decades later in general pop culture.
Classic rock, damn good
Favorite songs: Welcome to the Jungle, It's So Easy, Mr. Brownstone, Paradise City, Sweet Child o' Mine, You're Crazy
Great album
oooo suit chaild ou maineeee FAVS (top 3): its so easy, out ta get me, think about you mençoes honrosas: welcome to the jungle, nightrain, mr brownstone, paradise city, sweet child o mine, anything goes, rocket queen FODA FODA FODA FODA muito foda! foda.... nota final: 4.5/5
Favorite tracks: Mr. Brownstone, Out Ta Get Me, Sweet Child O' Mine
I would love to be cool about this and slag off this album. When I think of the biggest ‘cock rock’ tracks ever I immediately think of it’s mg life Bon Jovi and Sweet Child O Mine which is on this album. HOWEVER. Barring that what an album this is, it was my introduction to heavy rock and I think it is wall to wall rock riff artistry. It’s so easy & rocket queen are highlights for me.
Guns and Roses guys might be up there as the worst kind of heavy rock guys you can get. That aside, it has songs that are quite good and has a fair decent rep in terms of heavy albums for its time, so you have to give Axl his Roses. I do think that the big hitters here are the sort of rock that has aged terribly, with the kind of hits that you get on guitar hero or in the cheese room at pryzm. I guess I just don’t think time has been their friend somehow, and whilst I’m sure that guys like Dave Grohl and Josh Homme were influenced by them, I think they’ve probably managed to produce the Chad Kroeger’s of the music world instead.
surprised how many songs I already knew
Classic rock
Really good, kinda like back in black but better. improved on the formula.
a classic album - already knew a couple from here so was nice to listen to the full album. welcome to the jungle is such a strong opener
Ok a classic
Top 3: 1. Nightrain 2. Sweet Child O' Mine 3. Rocket Queen Least Favourite: Out Ta Get Me
Excellent honest guitar driven Rock. Not much of it around in the 80s. Two absolute classics
Lots of great tracks in here. Some cursed stuff also. Guitar is great.
I'm not the biggest Guns N Roses fan and usually view it as just another 80s "hard rock" band but this was better than I expected. I could hear that these guys actually did/do have some talent even if some of their songs ended up being overplayed and associated with drunk, overweight boomers "singing" at karaoke nights across the US. This had some really big hits, which I will admit is quite impressive for a debut album so kudos to them for that.
7/10
Classic nostalgia. Still holds up.
Not a huge fan of this form of rock. But for what it is it’s undoubtedly a great album.
I was so ready to hate this, I went in with such low expectations and enjoyed it a lot. I had to skip sweet child o' mine so I couldn't get an opportunity to change my mind
Classic and great songs, but not stand-out enough for a 5
This is a great album but only about 70% of the songs really soar. The rest are just ok, highlights are Nighttrain, Rocket Queen, and then the obvious iconic singles
All time classic
Mr Brownstone My Michelle Think About You Anything Goes Rocket Queen
Welcome to the Jungle Nighttrain Out Ta Get Me Paradise City Sweet Child O’ Mine (classic) Rocket Queen
Hell of a debut album. No need to own a copy of this one because it seems like every Rock radio station seems obligated to play the shit out of these songs. 4.5⭐️
This shit rocks. Singles still hold up after all the years. Other songs like 'Mr. Brownstone', 'My Michelle', and 'Think About You' are damn good too. Just feels a little long....chop off 10-12 minutes and it might be a 5.
Listened to it many times; kick ass album, one that has given me many years of joy listening with friends. From the iconic Slash guitar licks and the distinctive voice of Rose, this is hard rock at it's most fun and I wouldn't be without it. Honestly, my favourite songs on this album are all the top ones in "Sweet Child O' Mine", "Paradise City" and "Welcome to the Jungle". Largely have video games, of all things, to blame for that.
album de welcome to the jungle, buena entrada, también está paradise city y sweet child o'mine
Always a great listen
It’s funny to me that the perception I have of Guns n Roses listeners are biker dudes and tough guys, because this album is actually quite flamboyant. So maybe I’m feeling generous but I did enjoy this - with its cheesy lyrics and fabulous moans and screams. Glam Rock is the kind of spectacle I can get behind.
Hammeralbum
Not my thing
A classic album that aged reasonably well, considering how cheesy it is and how insanely overplayed it has been for the last 40 years. It's full of bangers, and the energy level is through the roof. That being said, it doesn't hit as hard as it did back in the days. It sounds a bit cartoonish to me now, I've long since moved away from this kind of rock. Some of the guitar riffs that blew my mind as a teen are definitely shallower than I remenber. And even though it's a very good album overall, I can't understand why the list didn't pick "Use Your Illusions" instead - it's one of the most sold albums in history, and a titanic influence on the mainstream 90s music scene. With better production and an arm-long list of classics (including epic ballads and bluesy songs), it's certainly more historically impactful than this one. Once again, Robert Dimery seems to obsessively go for "first albums" regardless of any other consideration. Still, Appetite for Destruction is a lot of fun, as long as you don't take it too seriously. 8/10
The lasts of an era.
I don't like GNR, but this was hard to not like. Paradise City was stuck in my head for 12 hours afterwards.
Welcome To The Jungle, Paradise City and Sweet Child O' Mine carry this album, but that's ok since all three are great songs.
Great album, even though I find Axl a bit shrill I can see why this was a huge album
Great first record, loved Slash sound when it came out, not really a fan of axl’s voice, good singles compilation but lacks a lot of depth (even for the hair metal era)
80’s Rock ⭐️Sweet Child O’ Mine
Got some good classics on it. Can't say I like all the songs, but generally enjoy this album and understand why it's so well liked.
This came out when I was in my mid 20s. GNR were huge. Many good songs especially Sweet Chill of Mine and Paradise City.
I like g&r (that stands for guns and roses; im just using slang) I only knew a few songs going in but I actually thought the whole album was decent and had a similar vibe which I like
I hadn’t listened to this album front to back probably since grade school but i forgot how much it slaps. So many mainstream hits much of which i think stand the test of time. Musicianship is pretty tight. Faves are “welcome to the jungle”, “paradise city”, and “sweet chile o mine”
7/10… glam metal / hard rock / *1987
I have to give this album a high rating, because it was one of the most listened to albums throughout my middle teens, and I still enjoy listening to it now. Yes the lyrics are misogynistic and yes some of the tracks have been overplayed, but Sweet Child O Mine has one of the best ever guitar solos that I never tire of hearing. I listen to music to feel something and listening to this I feel nostalgia and amusement (particularly at some of the lyrics). It’s classic 80’s metal, but musically interesting too, with some interesting key and time signature changes - i.e it's not all one tone throughout. So many great tracks that I get excited to hear the open bars of. It’s true I have had a long break from listening to it but yeah I’m more than happy to listen again and enjoy it.
Yes yes yessssssssss!!!!!!! Finallyyyyyy Welcome to the jungle - โคตรมัน sha na na na na neeeeeesh neeeeesh Nighttrain - มันอีกละ หัวโยก Out ta get me - ฟีลคล้าย scorpions เลย แต่มันก็ยุคๆเดียวกันอะเนอะ Mr.brownstone - rock n roll ดีว่ะ Paradise city - มันว่ะ Sweet child o’ mine - เพลงฮิต จะไม่มันได้ไงวะ Anything goes - ดูท่าทางจะชอบเพลงโทนนี้ว่ะ ติด rock n roll หน่อยๆ ไม่ชอบตะโกนเสียงแหลมเยอะๆ Rocket queen - สังเกตว่าเกลียดเพลงต้นบัม แล้วจะชอบเพลงท้ายบั้มตลอดเลย เพราะว่าเพลงท้ายๆมันจะดูผ่อนคลาย55555 อย่างเพลงนี้ถือว่าชอบสุดเลยในบรรดาที่ discover มาในวันนี้ รวมๆ ชอบ โคตรจะ 80s
Rating: 8/10 Short Review: As someone who listens to quite a bit of music, I can indeed confirm this is rock music.
Great!
Very popular songs, some were not really my style that's all, but overall great songs
good classic rock
Good rock sound, good musicians.
It was quite good and i liked that even tho it was on the metal/rock style, as expected, i felt like it wasn't too heavy and i managed to finish my drawing in peace while listening to it. rating: 8.75 / 10
ассоциации с холт хайдом из monster high. альбом понравился и появился интерес к прослушиванию других треков группы
I don't particularly enjoy it, at least not a full album's worth all at once. But there's no denying this is a fukkn classic. Honestly I wanted to speed thru and give it a bad review, but there's so goddamned much here that I can't. Not in good faith anyway. Was this their peak? I don't know, I'm honestly asking. If it wasn't it has to be damn close. It is what it is. And for what it is, there ain't much better. I hope the listen won't fuck my algorithm, but I gotta admit it was fun.
released 1987. their debut album but also the highest selling and most critically acclaimed. hard rock/metal genre songs i already knew: welcome to the jungle, paradise city, sweet child o mine songs i liked: its so easy fun facts: members came from bands Hollywood Rose and L.A Guns to form the new fusion band. they became known as the ‘most dangerous band in the world’ fo their heavy partying and drug use. during song rocket queen featuring adriana smith, lead vocalist axl rose had sex with her in the studio during the guitar solo
Every song rly good with very standout moments. Lacks with variety a tiny bit that keeps it from being perfect but overall amazing.
A lot of songs that bring back memories of Early HS years. As much as I want to hate on it because if Axl Rose i Can't its really good
Really strong debut, almost 5 start
4.5. This was good
neslysela jsem cele, ale par prvnich pisnicked i loved
Definitely some weaker songs here, but this is such a fun guitar album - I think the riffs and solos carry even the weakest songs like they were KG dragging the Wolves to the conference finals.
A lot of good, some bad. This isn't my favorite flavor of Guns n Roses, a lot of it is kinda dumb and trashy... But at the end of the day I still kinda love it? Maybe I'm just in a generous mood today.
Another absolute classic. Paradise City gives me chills in the best way possible. What a memory lane.
Liked it much more than I was expecting. The hits from this are iconic. Mr. Brownstone and My Michelle were my favorite songs I hadn’t heard. Some songs did go a little long. Will definitely listen again though. My first full album from this band.
3.5 some all time great songs but also some that felt forgettable to me
Excellent album. Soundtrack to my last year in Uni. Great tracks throughout, especially Welcome to the Jungle, Mr Brownstone, Paradise City and Sweet Child of Mine.
Lots of energy and great guitar riffs, enjoyed most tracks and absolutely loved "Sweet Child o' Mine", which ups the rating for me!
It's a lot of fun with some great tunes, although the harder they try to sound cool and dangerous, the funnier they get. Is it just me or does the swearing on this sound weirdly self-conscious?
I agree with what some other reviewers said about this album. I’m so sick of some of these songs from the radio overplay they got. So glad I don’t listen to the radio anymore. There’s so many hits! It’s crazy, quite a few underrated once’s as well. My Michelle example one. I just can’t bare myself to rate this as a 5, but if you were a 13 year old listening for the first time you’d be in for a treat.
8/10 Can't separate my youth from an objective analysis. Gets 4 stars because, ok? 12-17-2025
There are some songs in the album that are absolute masterpieces and legendary (I personally loved Nightrain, My Michelle and then obviously the iconic ones as well like Paradise City, Sweet Child O'Mine and Welcome To The Jungle). Overall, this album is why Guns N' Roses have gone down in history!
A classic. Unfortunately didn't have enough time to listen to it all before my next album, but will be revisiting soon! Liked songs: All so far!
Everything is typically weighted towards the Big Three (Jungle, Child and Paradise) but there's more in there if you dig below the surface, even if it's clear why they don't tour them. It's easy to criticise the album for being very samey, but given it's a debute album from a fairly young group (at the time), can you expect much else?
E cam mult guns n roses in one sitting pt mine, dar are sweet child of mine
Enjoyed!
Made me want to listen to more rock. Great album, no skpis!
I'm going to go with a 4, although somewhat reluctantly. It's not an album I reach for when I want to rock out, but I can appreciate the point of it.
Classic
It is what it is lol
Pretty great record. That mid-high marshal Slash sound had my ears buzzing pretty hard by the end haha and while I'm pretty sure he was the coolest thing in the universe at the time Axl Rose seems pretty insufferable to me now... anyway this is a great debut record despite the extreme overplayed-overhyped Jungle and Sweet Child singles.
Ripper
Younger me loved G&R but I don't vibe with them as much as I used to it. Still fun to revisit this one - an undeniable classic with a shocking number of certified bangers, even more so considering that it's their debut. None of these tracks are filler. Enjoyed Paradise City the most this time around although Welcome to the Jungle always used to be my favourite. It's hard to really judge a lot of these songs since they are so ubiquitous.
welcome to the jungle- classic, nothing much to say but im mentally headbanging rn it's so easy; felt a little spicy idk this is the exact album i would listen to for a pick me up but eddie munson baddie type beat lolz
Insane for a debut. If i liked hard rock more it would be 5* for sure 4/5
Don't know that I have ever listed to this in full. Decent album with some classics and the guitar work is amazing, but I can only handle this in small doses. 80s hair metal was not my thing
Great for an energy boost!
Even when axl rose is singing about doin' my sister it still kinda rocks
Appetite For Destruction deserves its many flowers (Roses, to be specific). Hard not to like, even for somebody not particularly into its brand of hard rock/metal. Like Accadacca or KISS before them there's not really any unsafe boundary-pushing tracks here (and thank god it's not glam), but what it lacks in novelty it makes up for in sleazy, mischievous reliability. Half this album is stuffed with tracks that every person and their dog has heard a million times on store radios over the last four decades and it's still got some good legs. fav tracks: Out Ta Get Me, Paradise City
....
A classic, just too old for me.
Fantastic debut
Better then expected but still not my cup of tea.
Another one of those iconic debut albums with mainstays in the rock singles rotation. Easy 4/5.
I’m going to watch you bleed? Anyway, I recognize some of the hats on the album cover. I like it’s so easy better 5than welcome to the jungle. Added mr brownstone to my library It was interesting. I only knew sweet child of mine before this. I don’t enjoy some of the whine that you hear in the higher pitched vocals, which I’ve heard in some of the tracks
i feel like it’s a good album that gained the popularity it has not out of an empty place, but i’m so tired of it and they are so problematic a 5 would be an overdo, but a 3 feels like a lowering, so i guess it’s a 4(the weakest one so far)
It's incredibly full of hits, what else can I say? Maybe avoid the sex song next time?
Super, super fun album. I'd obviously listened to the hits probably a million times before, but there was some serious heat in the album cuts. I love Axl's voice and the general 80s vibes. Definitely made me wanna cause some trouble and some ruckus. Slash also straight rips that guitar to shreds. Made me wanna listen to more of their albums.
It just rocks. There's not much more to say.
Not everything ages very well, but there's still a shocking amount of great tracks on this.
Phenomenal guitar work.
Great album. All songs are good but paradise city and sweet child of mine definitely stand out above the rest. Very nice to listen to while you're busy. Hot take: paradise city is the best song on the album. (But maybe I'm biased because I really liked Burnout Paradise)
That was a really fun and nostalgic listen, really great album. Such iconic songs and what a start with Welcome to the Jungle. Favourite song is definitely Sweet Child O Mine, the guitar riffs are so good. Listening to the album it made me wonder how I would listen to this album if it wasn’t so iconic and if I didn’t know it already (impossible to find out of course), I wonder if I would actually like it. I feel like because it is such a classic I really listen to it differently, it also doesn’t really sound like hard rock/metal to me but just much more like classic pop music. Anyway, really enjoyed it!
Rv/g
Guns n' Roses have a sound that is very much tied to the time and place of 80's rock. Sleazy, swaggering, dirty - and yet the production is polished and the band are tight. It is dated, but can be enjoyed like a time capsule that has captured a world where swigging JD, smoking cigarettes and thrusting hips in Spandex is still cool. This is bar brawl music for an 80s American dive bar - but still fun whilst sitting at my desk job at 7am in the South of England. Also, addressing the misogyny; yes, misogyny is bad and should not be condoned, but this is a GnR record: You don't watch a documentary about Jeff Dahmer and complain theres too much murder. Only songs I would have left out here are the last two which offer nothing the other tracks all do twice as well. Regardless, It's probably a light 4 for this one.
An all time hard rock album. Not exactly a groundbreaking take, but Slash is incredible on this album. He does a great job getting right up to the line of overindulgence on his solos without going over it, my only knock is he inspired a generation of less talented guitarists to obliterate that line but that’s not on him.
4.5 Some burners on here for sure, Night train got me going. This was a regular growing up but I guess through this exercise it lets us listen a bit more closely and compare directly to some great albums. That being said, I always thought Slash was just a bit of noodler who was maybe a bit overrated, but that is not the case. This is an all-time guitar album. Slash lays some pretty catchy lines/riffs throughout (and not just in the solos). I wish it were a tab higher in the mix. And if I never hear Paradise city again, that would be perfectly fine
It's interesting to hear this as I get older, and to realize all of the bands they are paying tribute to in their songs. As a kid I wouldn't have picked up elements of the Rolling Stones,. Aerosmith, Cheap Trick, AC/DC etc. in there without a musicologist feeding them to me in an earpiece. Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City and Sweet Child o' Mine are timeless hits for a reason and each one showcases all of the band's many tricks on display, including earworm riffs and melodies, expert level singing & guitar playing, a huge pile of ridiculous swagger mixed with just the right dash of emotional schmaltz.
I would like to start this review my saying fuck Breandan White and fuck Liam McConnachie. It's a great album, an amazing album even, but I don't think its a perfect album. It has the greatest opener of all time maybe, and there are so many highlights but a few lulls as well... Nightrain/ Anything Goes/ You're Crazy i think hold this back from full marks. Which unfortunately means it is not the greatest debut of all time. CASE CLOSED. Best track: Paradise City
Iconic, never need to hear it again.
No doubt this was an influential album in the early 1990s - an unbelievable number of hits made even more remarkable as a debut. A few songs still soar even after heavy air play across almost 4 decades. And a few songs still miss. Mr. Brownstone and My Michelle remain favorites. It’s honestly a 3 in my view - it’s not something I’d normally put on or listen through completely. But I’ll give it a 4 given its cultural influence and impact - I mean Jungle is still played at sporting events after all this time. 4/5
As far as arena rock goes, there isn’t a more perfect example than this. So many hits on this album, but I can’t quite give it a perfect score due to the cringey edginess, and Axl Rose’s voice is a little tough to listen to for a full hour. Best Track: Sweet Child O’ Mine
This, to me, feels like the epitome of 1001 albums for someone (like me) without an entirely proper musical education. You learn about the bangahs!
Classic
starting an album with welcome to the jungle is just too good. I did not really like It's So Easy, but Nightrain is pretty good. Out Ta Get Me and Mr. Brownstone were forgettable. Paradise City is a classic, of course. My Michelle also rocks and is not one you hear often.
Iconic, fun, ridiculous and very much of its time. Basically a microcosm of the 80’s.
It's a 3.5 rounded up. It's a pretty silly album. I think further listens would probably lower the score for me, but it was sort of fun as a one off.
I do think think it's a bit overrated generally but can't deny there's a few classics
3 stars alone for starting with welcome to the jungle. Kept that high energy through the entire album. Pretty solid, certified dad rock classic.
First half gets a 5. I started getting bored with “Think About You”. But there are so many good songs on there. It brought back reckless memories, as I'm sure it does with many across the world.
classic

not my vibe but they boys are doing a great job
Really good rock music. Love the intensity. Besides the megahits, a couple highlights were Out Ta Get Me and You’re Crazy.
Finally music I didn't dread. Axl Rose and company rocking out... Classics: Sweet Child O' Mine and Welcome to the Jungle. GNR is one of my fave hard rock bands. Listened before? Y Saved any tracks? Y Favorite tracks? Sweet Child O'Mine ⭐⭐⭐⭐: Liked it. Saved some tracks.
Good
Wasn't expecting such a big album to hit my list this morning. I've heard Sweet Child O Mine and Welcome to the Jungle so much that they're just tuned out at this point, but I can happily comment on a few of the other tunes I wasn't familiar with. I'd already heard Paradise City and Mr Brownstone aaaaand I think another one, but the others were actually pretty interest and not notable low points of the album. Axl is so interesting, Slash is an excellent guitarist, just an all round good album
Absolute classic album of bangers
Five stars for Mr Slash
Bike work
Classic influential album with a couple of fillers but otherwise phenomenal
7.75 - pretty good. Though it wouldn’t be my vibe and I ended up liking it more than I thought. Best songs were Paradise City (8.2) and Sweet Child O’ Mine (8.2). Worst were You’re Crazy (7.2) and It’s So Easy (7.3).
A lot of bangers
this is an absolutely iconic rock album and has a higher bangers-to-filler ratio than most of the other albums in this space and time. still, some of these songs weren't great to begin with and have aged even worse in the 40 years since then. the misogyny is plain as day and tracks like it's so easy seem tailor-made to piss off reasonable people. still, if you can work with a generous dose of LA sleaze, this album really delivers. favorites: welcome to the jungle, nightrain, mr. brownstone, paradise city, sweet child o' mine
Such a hard time with this. Such a good band, musically, creating some of the dumbest, grossest songs ever. Slash is such a good guitarist. Amazing even. Unfortunately he has to be attached to axl moaning for his entire life. So many of these songs are so good, with some god awful lyrics but that also helps them to be so good? It also suffers from overplay; in the days before Bluetooth in the car I imagine there was a 10-15 year streak of hearing something off of this album every day, and I’m sure that experience would be the same today. Their fault or not, the whole aesthetic and fanbase is ass and cringe and should have died well before this album came out. If grunge did anything right it was a great shot at this type of music. Final thoughts, if this album came out ten years earlier or 20 years later and had less “waaaghwwahhhh” vocals I’d be an easy 5, and it honestly probably deserves a 5 as is, but I cannot do it.
Couple of dogs but a banger of an album overall.
Stop. Clap. Stomp, stomp, clap.
3.5
7/10 The three big singles are epic, the rest not so much.
Riffs of gold but a few too many sex references
I mean, it’s very goo
Classic Gunners. A few of their big hits. Other songs not quite as strong.
Pretty classic rock record right there.
All the jams. A lot of fluff. Still a pretty iconic album.
Classic. Welcome to the Jungle baby, do you know where you are?
YES. YES. YES. Love this album already. Some say that heavy metal was dead even before the 80's but this is exactly what metal/rock in the 80's was. It's got tunes all the way though. Vocals, guitars, bass all on point. This is what this list was created for, for people who may not have heard legendary albums like this Great album. Always has been. Always will be.
A legendary debut, one of the few big 80s rock albums that has stood the test of time. The big hits are simply huge, the rest of the tracks also very solid.
Early Guns N Roses were great. All downhill after this one though. Great album
Great album
Their debut album. Metal / Hard Rock. That opening track is such a statement. The band are super tight and Axl's vocals are great. Welcome To The Jungle Indeed ! Yes, this track along with Paradise City and Sweet Child O'Mine have been overplayed for almost forty years now but they are certified, good fun bangers. The rest of the album is of course power chords, indulgent solos and cock thrusting but so what !? It's hedonistic and a good time for 53 minutes.
I already reviewed this and gave it a four last time. Time to do it again!
Love this album
Above all else it is very fun, this album is full of energy, full tilt, therefore may be a bit exhausting by the end of it, but it is a ride I don't mind at all. At the same time, while fun, it takes itself very seriously, which does add a tasty layer of camp to it. (the moaning on rocket queen being peak). The riffs are cool, and sonically it is trying different things in a very maximalist fashion. This strong point is a bit dimmed by the writing, which is a bit hollow especially near the end of the album, (You're Crazy / Anything goes). That is a small grip, since given the way Axl Rose sings, it is barely intelligible anyway. At the end of the day it has most thing I like in an album, it has ambition, kinda like they were very much trying to do the best thing they could, and with a sound that is very specific to them. Very strong album, albeit not perfect.
*Listened before the project* Not my favorite of their albums cuz I really can’t stand axl rose’s singing in this album
Rock N Roll! Nothing like a little glam rock hair band metal.
Even though the rest of the album is kind of same same, this is THE GnR album, I mean 4 hits on one
Heck of a debut album with three huge hits. The rest of the album is solid. It’s a fun album, but not one I’d necessarily go out of my way to listen to again. Still, I’ll bump it up to a low 4/5.
Insane album. I’m usually not one for the heavier stuff, but even this I can appreciate. So many classics on here and others that rock just as much. Great album.
solid album i guess−
It'd be dishonest of me to pretend I didn't spend at least one summer thinking this album was the absolute dog's bollocks back in the day. Fashions change, people change, and this just isn't what floats my boat these days... so with that in mind, why do I think Appetite For Destruction has endured? Cock rock, hair metal - call it what you will - from my point of view at least, it was able to sustain itself for a while because it quickly learned to be tongue-in-cheek. Aware of its own naffness and willing to play up to that. Aerosmith, Motley Crue, etc - it was all very theatrical. The musical equivalent of the Carry On films. Just like their peers, late 80s Guns 'N' Roses were crass, misogynistic and - well - in many ways, just a bit cringeworthy really. The difference is, in my opinion, that G 'N' R were doing it without any sense of irony - they committed to the rock and roll cliches 100%. Not sure if that is a good thing, or a bad thinsg, but despite all the flaws, there is at least an air of authenticity about what Axl and co were doing which is maybe missing from other comparable albums of the era. At the end of the day this album has decent hooks, a slew of genuine chart hits and the music is more sophisticated than the standard blues-orientated guff most rock acts were churning out. There is a lot of soul in Slash's playing, his solos sing, and, more importantly, he plays solos that you can sing. It's a tough album to rate - for me, its success is completely justified, but does it still stand up today? Plenty of radio stations seem to think so. But then, isn't Axl just a bit of a dick, and hasn't he always been? Oh... four stars.
Lowkey ferocious.
Played it lots upon release although now some of the songs feel overplayed!
AROOOOO YEAH BABY!!!!!
Noticed this time how important Slash was to their sound, as much as Axl, honestly. Aggressive but not overly so- still super smooth and approachable sound. Every song hits. Fantastic instrumental performances pretty much from top to bottom. Really expected this to age poorly but it has held up since being amazed by this as a kid. No snobby RYM-brain is gonna tell me that "Sweet Child O' Mine" isn't a fantastic song.
A few classic tracks, a few fillers
Lots of smash hits but by the end felt like every song was the same wailing and guitar solos.
mostly cool stuff. too lazy to write more
3.7
I was obsessed with Guns N’ Roses when I was about six, no doubt thanks to my much older sister’s influence. I’d run the Use Your Illusion tapes endlessly on my Sony Walkman, but for whatever reason, this album never grabbed me back then. Misogyny aside, it wouldn’t be fair to dismiss it too harshly - especially considering it’s a debut, and a remarkably strong one at that. I’ve always loathed the Sweet Child O’ Mine riff, though; that one’s probably just a personal hang-up. Favourite tracks: Welcome To The Jungle, It's So Easy, Nightrain, You're Crazy.
When this album came out back in 1987, I was only 13, and absolutely taken by "Paradise City" the song and the video, their adrenaline and their fierce live energy completely overwhelmed me. After buying their full record I was turned, this was nothing like the Motley Crue's, Poison's and all the other cheesy glam rock bands of that time, this was sleazy, dirty, bluesy hardrock, that wasn't heard of since the early days of Led Zeppelin or Van Halen. Saved up my money for weeks to buy a bootleg cassette recording, only to be completely devastated by the horror of Axl Rose's singing and the missing notes of the band, but at least it saved me money to see them live. This album is still a classic, although some of their greatest songs are overplayed , ("Sweet Child of Mine", "Paradise City") and some not so worth noting ("My Michelle", "Anything Goes"), but songs like "Welcome to the Jungle", "Mr. Brownstone" or "Out ta get Me" keeps this album going like a "Nighttrain". 4/5
A couple of absolute bangers, definitely feels like it needs a few repeat listens to appreciate it fully (3.75 stars if I could).
Possibly the best hard rock album of the 90s
Guns N’ Roses is one of those bands that I see with on the same level as with AC/DC: bands that rely on hard attitude and amassing a fan base that results in playing the same songs over and over again for years. I think there was a point in most people’s lives where they thought Welcome to the Jungle was the coolest shit ever. But I always felt the GNR had a little more meat to them. Most glam metal bands try to have an edge to them, but GNR one of the few that can pull it off. Most of this album surprisingly invokes the sound of what would become 90’s alternative metal. I just think that if you look past the hits (and I know that’s hard for some), most of the album is a bit hit-or-miss. Still, hard to deny the staying power of the album that gave us Welcome to the Jungle and Sweet Child O’ Mine. Staying is the key word there. Favorite track: Sweet Child O’ Mine Other hits: Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City, Mr. Brownstone, My Michelle, Rocket Queen, Anything Goes
It had a lot of hits and good energy, but other than a few songs it’s kinda just rock. It’s been a few hours since I listened to it and I genuinely can’t remember anything other than the hits. It’s getting a four from me, but that’s just from the heavy carry the hits are giving to this album.
14 year old me thought this was the greatest thing ever. Old me thinks it somewhat holds up well, but it's flawed. I love and hate parts of it. A couple of ways to rate this: The Hits - 5 Everything else 3-3.5 or maybe Slash - 5+ Axl - 2 My enjoyment of each song directly related to how much Axl's wailing annoys me. Still, it's good overall.
Again stylistically not my favorite but there are some definite bangers on here. 3.5/5
Definitely some filler but overall, its pretty groovy and just a fun listen ngl.I do think its a lil overrated tho 8.1
Rock n' roll baby
Classic. Every track enjoyable.
YEEEEEEOWWW!! Middle school me is rejoicing.
Lot of hits. The singles alone are enough to hold this album up but the deeper cuts are interesting enough to merit their inclusion. Like a lot of rockers of this era, they burned brightly but were not able to stay relevant with newer generations as different ideas came along and rifts separated the band members. One wonders how things may have been different for GNR if they had gotten their big break a few years earlier. Funny how reviewers dog on 50’s album when this has a lot of the same subject matter: drugs, sex, death, posturing. Saying the same stuff just sounds different.
Yeahhhhhhh boyyyyyyyyyyyy! 🤘 🤘 🤘
LA gutter sleaze at its finest
Can't fault it, wall to wall rock bangers. Questionable lyrics and subject matter now, but the last great rawl album of the 80s - hair metal meeting LA sleaze. It's So Easy and Nightrain are belters outside the mega singles
Such a great album with like 3 epic bangers on it. The rest of the album isn't bad either. The 80s was such a golden era for hard rock.
Good rocking debut
Augljóslega íkonísk plata fyrir 80s rock en hefur aldrei heillað mig eitthvað allt of mikið, mikið hit and miss... nokkrir generational hittarar þarna en mr brownstone er besta lagið imo
Peak GnR, pretty much has all their classics, top shelf dad rock. Welcome to the jungle, nightrain, paradise city and sweet child o'mine.
4.5 if it were an option. Perfectly captures a time and place. And still holds up after all these years. Summer after 6th grade my girlfriend broke up with me in a McDonald’s, said it was because she was in love with Axl.
More musical than I expected. Sick riffs.
This site is stalking me I swear. I listened to this on Saturday. Creepy list. I completely forgot this was their debut album. It's amazing that this is what they started with. This album has so many great tunes it's so close to perfect. Legitimately a great rock album.
An old classic.
I listened to this album A TON in 1987-1990, and then loved both “Use Your Illusion” albums too (I assume they’re on here as well?). We were saved from hair bands forever with GNR, and then grunge. I couldn’t be happier. I found this listen enjoyable, but the songs did have some same-ness to them aside from the three monster singles. It’s still a solid 4 from me. Oh, Slash’s guitar playing on here absolutely kills.
Undeniably a good album, but fuck Axel and Slash, disgusting people.
A few solid hits that keep on reminding me of Burnout: Paradise. The rest doesn't get boring fast enough to make me drop the score.
Solid classic rock album
Three of the best rock songs ever, a handful of other solid songs, and then just some boring filler. Would give it 3 stars if not for the big three.
I never especially liked GnR. And about 15 years ago I dodged the cover at a bar in Madison, Wisconsin - only to find a band called Adler’s Appetite, composed of former Roses drummer Steven Adler and members of other bygone 80s hair metal bands, playing this album cover to cover. It was one of the most surreal and fun nights of my life. I may never come around to spandex and bandanas, but this album is pretty damn fun.
pretty good!
My era, but never really my music, so it's interesting to listen to it. Thoughts: boy, GNR sure have potty mouths, don't they. Also, yeah, OK, this is some really solidly good music.
It's a good album even if Axl is a turd. Sweet Child O' Mine is easily the best song, but there are some other really good ones. Fantastic guitar on this one.
1987 I was in Junior High and back in those days friends of friends of friends would just hand you a cassette and say, check this out! At the time I was listening to Top 40 Radio, and interested in bands like Europe, Def Leppard, and Scorpions. So when I put this tape on for the first time, my mind was blown. Did they just say "fuck" in a song? So the question remains, does it still hold up almost 40 years later. The hits were way over played but I still knew all the words and musicial changes, I could still air guitar all the solos. It was enjoyable to listen to again and I still feel it is a classic for that era of rock because it was raw and dirty, and no one else was doing that at that time. I feel GNR definitely used their entire bottle of rocket sauce in just that one album, because there was never anything else they put out that had the same effect. I would say 5 stars, but I don't feel it's an album I could easily go back to or even ever listen to again unless prompted to. But still great memories of the old tape trading days.
Crazy how many metal hits are on one album. An essential must listen for mainstream heavy metal.
A petite
Cool!
This album occupies a very fuzzy part of my childhood memories. I think all the adults in my life as a kid loved it and it's in the background of so many memories. For good reason.
Still don’t reckon it’s the masterpiece some claimed but it was a huge part of my teens
really solid obviously!!! slightly overrated but i still liked it a lot
This was my first “favorite album” when I was a youngster. Still enjoy it.
Some good dongs
Minns fortfarande när den kom när jag gick på högstadiet. Numera klassiker som Welcome to the djungle, paradise city sweet child of mine. Väldigt bra platta!
Solid album and good listen. Guns N Rose's songs were great and I think up there with the song writing of Prince.
Loved it.
Koliko god ovo tio mrzit odlične su pisme
Guitars, lyrics - overrated, Welcome to the jungle Paradise city Sweet child o' mine
Welcome to the jungle is the one of the best album openers ever!! Never been a big fan of “it’s so easy”. “Nightrain” is so underrated. “Out ta get me” is ok. Overall this album out rock back on the map in a big way. Mr. Brownstone is a rocker. Paradise city I could skip. I know this song by heart and it was a massive hit. This is a classic album. Axl sounds nothing like this anymore. At least we have this record with these songs. “You’re crazy” is a song I don’t listen to enough. Anything goes is ok. I still love Rocket Queen.
Previous day before this album was Aerosmith, and way to make them sound even worse. This is a great album, so many hits.
Wild vocals. Much respec’
Not exactly my style but there are some undeniably classic rock songs on this album. Definitely one of the landmark albums of the 80s.
Liked it a lot, a few all time bangers on there
Classic, great hits, strong throughout
I'll start by saying that Axl Rose is a homophobic, racist, abrasive a-hole. Getting that over with, this is a great album. Axl's voice is still strong and rightfully legendary. The vocals meld so well with Slash's guitar playing, the rhythm section is really strong and the whole thing has an amazing vibe. I recall being in elementary school when this came out and some kids bringing it in -- it was an event. Sweet Child o' Mine still rocks and always will. Some of the other tracks...maybe deserve not to be known so well. They fell off with Use Your Illusion and then there's everything that happened after that, but this album is a classic.
Nice hard rock album
This is the musical equivalent of a Jason Statham movie, yes it's loud and brash, yes the writing may not be the best, yes if there was this much cheese on a pizza I might remove it. But it's fun, cheesey, loud, brash, in your face. I like the hair metal guitars, and the loud drums, I think it's completely mad that a band could have this almost delusional level of confidence out of the gate. I will defend my memories of back to back air guitar-wielding to sweet child of mine many many times with the same level of energy I would the Beekeeper (which is worth a watch). Is this a great album no, is there great music on this album... maybe. It makes me happy.
This is a great debut album. The band are dynamic, aggressive and exciting. Axl Rose is superb, displaying a great vocal range, and interestingly, a different number of voices or tones across the songs. The drum sound on this album is fantastic, it really hits you hard. The album holds your attention all the way through despite the second half of the album not being as strong as the first half. The songs themselves range from good to fantastic. If they had made this a 10 track album it would be a 5 star album. Overall I'm going for 4 ⭐ Would I listen to this album again? Yes. Would I buy this album? I did. 1 "Welcome to the Jungle" - Thrilling. Wonderful introduction and build into a fantastic groove. One of the best opening tracks, to a debut album, ever! - 5⭐ 2 "It's So Easy" - This rocks to high heaven. Axl Rose's lower register is quite sinister. Aggressive. - 5⭐ 3 "Nightrain" - Probably my favourite track on the album. Straight up Rock n Roll. Love the boogie in the guitar riff. - 5⭐ 4 "Out ta Get Me" - This doesn't quite have the immediacy as the preceding tracks. Nonetheless it is a very good rocker with a great vocal performance. - 4⭐ 5 "Mr. Brownstone" - Great riff. Both Izzy Stradlin and Slash are fantastic on this. Vocally this is interesting too, with Axl Rose using a different voice so to peak. Great solo. "Yowzah" indeed. - 5⭐ 6 "Paradise City" - One of three songs on this album that are likely to be well known beyond a Rock audience. Wonderful introductory guitars. The opening lyrics immediately get your attention. This song has a number of great riffs. The change in Tempo is masterful and then it rocks, boy does it rock. Brilliant. Izzy Stradlin's rhythm work is great. Best use of a whistle in a Rock song? - 5⭐ 7 "My Michelle" - Change of mood for the introduction but then into a great riff and groove. I've always liked the 'poppy' chorus. - 5⭐ 8 "Think About You" - 3⭐ 9 "Sweet Child o' Mine" - A brilliant song with one of the most famous guitar riffs in rock history. The guitar solos are spine tingling great. Stunning actually. Lyrically the song is superb. - 5⭐ 10 "You're Crazy" - 3⭐ 11 "Anything Goes" - 3⭐ 12 "Rocket Queen" - Infamous. Great song. 5⭐ Total - 53 Average - 4.42
This album came out when I was 10yo. By the time I was 12, the uniform of the kids in school was an Appetite for Destruction T-shirt. This album was played constantly I think for 2 years. I've always liked Mötley Crüe more because they seemed to be having more fun. GnR is a bit dark and self-serious. This album suffers from the obvious bloat that's on it. Three huge banger singles and the lesser banger 'Mr. Brownstone' make the other songs sound derivative. They should have replaced two fillers with 'November Rain' even though apparently having two power ballads was unwanted. It would have been a nice change up on a loud, speedy album. After listening to two Black Sabbath albums from the List within the last week, this seemed underwhelming. BS had more artistry and ability to edit. Still, this is hair metal's finest hour.
As iconic as this album is, it’s really just three massive hits and a couple of other decent songs. As a debut album it’s really solid, and none of the tracks are awful. I just find side one to be really, strong and side two only has Sweet Child… I have scored it for the times it brings to mind rather than reasoned critique, and I do still give it a spin every so often.
Pretty much all of their hits packed onto this one album. It’s a wild ride!
It is a great album with classic, iconic songs, but there are songs and lyrics which did not age so well, maybe it needs some more decades to make it "it fitted for its time"...
Two transcendent rock anthems surrounded by solid noise
When this album's good...it's very good. And when it's not, it's just okay. The hits are the heights of Appetite for Destruction. Axl's vocals on Welcome to the Jungle are killer. And that Slash opener in Sweet Child O'Mine sends electricity to my soul. It's the rest of the record, the songs that didn't chart, that are just so-so. Regardless, this is worthy of this 1001 project.
Slash hard carrying this album. Hard to rate because of the highs and lows.
What a ripper. I only knew the singles but liked the whole album. It’s kind of sad when iconic singles have defined a band rather than a whole album.
Okay, let’s calm down a bit. I was surprised to hear so many songs that would later become Guns’ iconic anthems on this album, but they all needed a chamomile‑tea break—every track was just WAAAA! You never got a moment to rest. Sure, it had some chill bits, but I wanted something more laid‑back to switch up the pace. Even so, it’s one of those records you can throw on for a road trip and enjoy the experience.
Starting a record with a song as powerful and as badass as "Welcome to the Jungle" ? DAAAAMN. Yes the hits have been overplayed and have become a bit annoying to listen to. But objectively, they are still incredible songs. I also discovered new songs on this album that hit really hard. Slash's solos are just absolute pleasure for the ears. 8/10 fav songs : My Michelle & Anything Goes
A few all-timers, but the rest of the album takes it down a notch.
It’s a classic, and I’d give it 5 stars because of how massive this album is, but it doesn’t change the fact that I just DO NOT like this band
Despite this album being huge at my school when I was 13, I had never listened to the whole thing. It's good. The singles are the stand-out tracks, but there's a very slick, kind of glam production style throughout. I kind of miss this lavish style of rock, when songs just kept going because it was too cool to quit.
Not really a genre I like but the guitar playing was awesome!
Love the 1-2-3-4-5 whammy through Mr.Brownstone, one that I occasionally hit up for a hard rock fix ,- which, I'm finding, I prefer to heavy metal - just as relentless but less monotonous and portentous.
Good
A classic.
Ah, my teenage years. Undoubtedly a classic album that changed my life and that of many others, but in all honesty it doesn't quite hold up as an album. Welcome to the jungle, Sweet Child O Mine and Paradise City are about as good as 80s rock songs get, and there are other great parts - My Michelle, Mr Brownstone,he first half of Rocket Queen etc. Sadly, there's just a few ideas too few - a number of songs are just variations on a theme, and almost identical riffs and lyrics around. Still worth a listen, and undeniably influential, but the excitement I felt as a kid isn't quite there any more.
Intense at times but overall a fun listen
Bonus point for Sweet Child of Mine. Great hits on this and then everything in between sounded kind of the same
All timer album. Pure Guns n Roses greatness
This was an amazing listening, a lot of great songs Fav song - Paradise City 4/5
I've listened to this album enough times, I know the songs I like and don't like. I'd say like, half of the album tickles my fancy - all of the singles are banggers, plus 'Night Train', 'Mr Brownstone' & 'Rocket Queen'. Outside of that, the album is quite same-y. Still a 4/5 though, lots of things to enjoy about this album.
I've already listened to it
Not something I’ll probably put on too often, but it’s it’s a solid, classic beginning-to-end rock and roll album.
No cóż. Ta płyta jest zdarta jak gardło rockmana. Grają ją wszyscy wszędzie. I okazuje się że nie bez powodu. To są hity. Klasyki. A to przecież debiutancka płyta. Nie mogę wyjść z podziwu. Oczywiście ja z hard rockiem to się lubię tak jak z pływaniem (czytaj: wcale), ale i tak śpiewałam w samochodzie. 7.5/10
Fucking great. Pure, unfiltered Axl at his peak. Not sure I’ve ever listened to it start to finish before but what a record. Every track hits.
Classic album from my childhood
Awesome
Clasicazo, temazos de manual pero no es mi rollo
Awesome riffs, great vocals and the bass goes hard too Have a heavy bias as I get up with this album. So many classics Gets worse towards the end and there are a few skips
I know it's a classic, used to be a favorite. At this point in my life it hasn't aged the best, the singles are overplayed, the only song I don't like is my Michelle. Based on my nostalgia and my recognition that it rocks I'll go 4. But really for me now it's a 3
You could argue 5 stars, for sure. This is the album that made GNR … the whole thing is a classic
Not quite as great as I remember at the definitely the epitome of late '80s metal
Classic Rock Album. Original Cover art was/is disturbing. This is hair metal meets punk. Good stuff.
Solid 80s rock album. This came out when I was a kid and I honestly don’t think I’d listened to the entire album prior to now. Still entertains.
"Welcome to the Jungle" is a classic, of course. As is "Paradise City". "Sweet Child o' Mine" is great. 4/5
Archetype of a genre. Great, but relatively monotonous. Can’t be too critical since it’s a blueprint.
guitar riffs that itch my brain
Classic Axel
If it promoted more drinking and driving it would be a 5 star contender. (4.0/5.0)
Classic album
Problematic lyrics aside, this album is even better than I remember - Slash’s amazing guitar work is immediately to the forefront, but Duff McKagan’s thumping and grooving bass lines are something I missed as a teen. Classic album that injected some much needed raw energy into rock at a time where most of it was being produced to death.
One of the best all out rawwwk albums of all time. It really went against the hair band trends of the time and had more of a punk feel. Hard to get past some of the nastiness of songs like "Its So Easy" but, come on, "Welcome to the Jungle," "Paradise City," " Sweet Child of Mine"....a great band in their prime.
Masterful guitar work from Slash, impressive vocals from Axl Rose. Brilliant hard rock album. First half is perfect, a couple stinkers in the second but mostly consistent. Icy and unrelenting, a snarling sonic kick in the teeth
Hasn’t aged amazingly well but maybe that’s due to overplaying certain songs. I still absolutely love it, I just skipped a few tracks on this listen through
you know the album is good when there is moaning in the middle of it
Nostalgic and an amazing number of great songs on one album. But listening when I’m older it’s ever so slightly cringe.
nostalgia
Альбом бенгерный, но немного заебал
I’m shocked to learn this was their debut album! Some songs were average but others were so good it made up for it. Very versatile singing, I had to look up if their were multiple singers in the band.
Oh man, Guns N’ Roses. I’m pretty sure I listened to all of this album at some point, but there are definitely songs on this album that I’m more partial to than others. I don’t really intentionally listen to GnR much these days, so I’m curious as to how I’ll feel about this album with a more critical ear. I’m approaching Appetite for Destruction with a bit of trepidation, but I’m excited as hell to blast “Paradise City” over my headphones. Break out the hairspray, skunky beer, and cigarettes, it’s time to hit the Sunset Strip! I wouldn’t say that I love Appetite for Destruction, but it’s still fun to listen to, and I think it’s a really good hard rock album. I love how gritty and dirty the lyrics are, and the guitar playing really elevates the overall sound of the album. For an album that’s as lyrically dark and grimy as it is, its hard rock sound is really well polished, and the guys in GnR show off a lot of talent here. As far as the individual songs are concerned: -I went into this album not really caring for “Welcome to the Jungle.” I think most of that feeling comes from wanting to hear “Paradise City” whenever this comes on, but I can appreciate how mind-blowing it must have been to hear it for the first time back in 1987. The guitars and Axl’s wailing during the introduction are fantastic, and they really set the tone for this album. -“It’s So Easy” and “Nightrain” establish the lyrical grittiness of this album really well. GnR leans hard into songs about the Sunset Strip lifestyle, but they do it in a really fun way. I really loved the cowbell on “Nightrain” too. -I’d completely forgotten about “Mr. Brownstone,” but I love the guitar playing on the intro, and the song has a certain boogie sound that I really like. It shouldn’t be this easy to rock along to a song about heroin. -“Paradise City” is absolutely perfect. The opening of the song, with the twang of the guitar tone, the pulsing drum beats, and excellent vocals get me amped up every time I hear it. The meat of the song is great too: the main guitar riff is excellent, the drum fills kick ass, and Axl’s wailing vocals are outstanding. The outro is pure chaos, but completely fitting for this romp of a song. -The acoustic backing guitar they use on “Think About You” is excellent, and is a great way for GnR to show that they’re not just a one-trick-pony when it comes to their guitar sounds. -I know “Sweet Child O’ Mine” is ridiculously overplayed, but I still love it. That opening guitar solo is fantastic, and the rhythm guitar is great too. I always find it a blast to sing along to this song, and it’s easily one of the most beautiful hard rock songs I’ve ever heard. It gets played a lot because it’s fantastic, and I’m okay with that. The rest of the album is fine, but some of the songs here on Appetite feel like filler. It’s good filler, and those songs compliment the overall flow and sound of the album really well, but those songs just aren’t very memorable, and that’s a shame on an album that’s full of some of the most memorable songs of the decade. This isn’t an album I’m quick to throw on, but I it’s really good, and it more than deserves its place on this list.
What? Are you gonna sit there and tell me this album isn't iconic? Important? Good? In a sea of bad hair metal topping the charts, a major turning point for rock music? Are you really gonna say that? Like many victims of classic rock radio, AFD suffers from being too overplayed over my lifetime, and for those reasons, I haven't made a point to revisit it very often. But that's probably the most negative thing I can say about this album. Aside from a few forgettable tracks, it is almost perfect.
I think it’s fair to say our collective appetite for this album has been sufficiently satiated after decades of airplay, and just as fair to say the play was earned by hits that still bang and solos that still rip.
Listened on 5/14/25 4/5 Favorite songs: Paradise City, Sweet Child of Mine, Welcome to the Jungle I really fucked with this having grown up listening to so many of these songs. Absolute bangers
7,25
classic dirty LA rock
Definitely some solid hits, I was surprised though that Sweet Child of Mine had almost as many plays as Welcome to the Jungle and Paradise City combined. There were definitely some low points on the album, but over all definitely an album I'll listen to again.
Honestly I'm impressed that some of their greatest hits all come from the same album. Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City, Sweet Child O' Mine. This was a really solid album. I'm actually surprised I liked it as much as I did just because I typically am not a fan of the older hard rock groups. But I guess they're iconic for a good reason.
It’s hard to believe that that this album is pushing 40 years old. It’s timeless - no one ever gets tired of it. You hear it everywhere you go. Love it. I wish Axl could still sing. The only knock on it is Axl’s voice. I can only take so much of it, just like AC/DC. “Sweet Child” is my highlight.
prob 4/5
Onhan tämä kyllä sen nelosen arvoinen! En ollut pitkään aikaan kuunnellut joten oli varsin raikas. 4/5
Jaa-a, mitenköhän tän sit arvostelis. Klassikko. mennään nelosella. 4/5.
Somehow I thought I wouldn't like it but I'm pleasantly surprised. It's probably one of the best old men rock albums for me. It has aged well. Not sure if I'm just over it a bit because you hear their songs everywhere of if it's just not 100% mine. 4/5
As a child in the late 80's Guns n' Roses came out and seemed dangerous. They seemed separate from the big hair 80's glam metal from the time. Better though. Nearly 40 years on and the danger is gone but the hits here remain. You can't deny the opener "Welcome to the Jungle," it really is a statement song from the band. And "Sweet Child O' Mine" is probably the greatest hard rock ballad ever written. I only wish there were some hidden gem deep cuts with the same power but alas, they are lesser known for a reason. Still, as a debut the band is tight and when they hit they hit hard.
Great guitar licks always make me smile.
Very close to a 5. Three great tracks, good album tracks. I'll be back
A couple of fav songs
Fantastic!
My first rock album I've listened to. Pretty good, nothing crazy. I don't really like the high-pitched vocals, but the instrumentals are godly.
If I were given this at the start of this generator I probably would have given a 5 due to its iconic nature and how many hits there are on this debut album but out of personal preference for the songs over time I’ve come to my own opinion that the use your illusion albums are peak guns, this one is obviously still a classic and enjoyable but I can’t really say I like every single song on here. The first half is superior in my opinion as the second side has a few songs that aren’t as strong in my opinion like think about you and anything goes (not bad though). My favourite songs are nighttrain and mr brownstone (and paradise city as a guilty pleasure), sweet child of mine is one of those annoying hits that isn’t really fair to rate, jungle has one of the coolest intro riffs. Overall a strong 4 (8/10).
