Reviews (page 8 of 14)

This album was such a big deal to me and the band I was playing in when it came out. There are some awesome, energy filled tracks and listening to from start to finish takes me back to my teenage years instantly!! Welcome to the jungle has one of the best intros and although overplayed I have a soft spot for sweet child of mine. Love it!

I’m not a huge listener of this era/genre, but this album is pretty great. There’s a couple of clunkers in Its so Easy (especially) and Out ta Get me, but the hit rate is pretty high. Welcome to the Jungle is on the short list of greatest album openers.

Enjoyed.

“Welcome to the Jungle” sets the scene perfectly: chunky riffs and Rose in full Plant / Lee Roth mode. And young Saul can play a bit. “Paradise City” is terrific and the album as a whole, just, well, rocks. Don’t play it to your mum.

Four stars for Sweet Child of Mine, alone. 4*

Hard to argue with this one!

I can't stand Axl's wailing.

Has all three of the vitamins: sex, drugs, and rock n' roll. My favorite tracks were not only the singles of "Welcome to the Jungle", "Paradise City", and "Sweet Child O'Mine", but also "Mr. Brownstone", "It's So Easy", and "Rocket Queen". This album, their next 2 EPs and 2 full length albums would be a major reason that the overwhelming presence of rock was propelled into the early 1990s.

Welcome to the Jungle to open tells you all you need to know about what's to follow. Axl Rose was a muthafuckin' vibe.

Great album, especially for a debut

Damn good album, arguably deserving 5 stars, but I'm going to give it 4.5 and round down to 4. Here's why. Call it petty and lame if you will :) This is the pinnacle of redneck rock. The people that loved this album the most are the same ones that thought Poison was great hard rock (it was not). These people drove big trucks, thought wrestling was the pinnacle of sport, that camouflage print was the pinnacle of fashion, and that mullets were the pinnacle of hair styles. All while ignoring that a band like The Cult had already put out multiple albums far better than what any big hair band had done. (Side note: when Nirvana came along and shut the door on big hair music, Nirvana was offered the chance to tour with GnR and said, "No, thanks; not interested.") This album, out of context, is very good and arguably deserves 5 stars, but given some of the baggage, I'm giving it 4.5 stars and rounding down.

Only had heard the big three, but the album is solid. Not amazing but good

Some absolute ground breaking classics, and sime average at best cuts.

Classic album

Really good! Rocket Queen is my favourite.

I wish I could yell and have it sound bad ass like that.

Guns N' Roses' debut album still holds up quite well, even though there is a clear gap in quality between the three monster hits (Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City, Sweet Child O' Mine) and all the rest. It's a worthwhile listen from time to time anyway. 4/5

Welcome to The Jungle - 10/10 It’s So Easy - 8/10 Nightrain - 7.5/10 Out Ta Get Me - 8/10 Mr Brownstone - 8/10 Paradise City - 9/10 My Michelle - 7.5/10 Think About You - 8/10 Sweet Child O’Mine - 10/10 You’re Crazy - 7.5/10 Anything Goes - 7.5/10 Rocket Queen - 8/10 TOTAL - 99/120

I almost gave this a 3. Except for the three biggest songs, I didn't find the songs that special. They all kind of blended together. But I understand why this album is on this list and how popular the album is.

Probably as much of an apex album of this hair metal bad boy style as possible. Nightrain was a personal favorite growing up. Thought the back half of the album gets a little more languid in its excess, take away any track and you really lose a piece of the statement they were going for imho. for me its not a 5 star album but, for millions of Boomer dads, this is tops.

I thought this was going to be a nailed on 5/5 album. It's Appetite for Destruction by Guns 'N' Roses. Everyone knows the three huge singles and a handful of other tracks, which all slap. But there is a fair bit of filler as well. Stop at the end of track 9 and it's a masterpiece. Rating: 4/5 Playlist track: Welcome to the Jungle Date listened: 05/03/24

Haven’t heard this for 34 years, when I heard it about eleventy billion times as my then boyfriend loved it. And with good reason; it’s really stood the test of time in my opinion.

Their signature album and the best one

3.8 - over played, but that’s not their fault. Actually enjoyed it a lot more in album form

Actually much better than I thought it would be.

I actually quite like this album... always have. Axl Rose's voice is annoying for sure, and its all way over the top, but its over the top in an impressive way. The singles are really well crafted pop songs with a stadium rock veneer. Think About You's chorus almost sounds like a new wave song. Fave Tracks: Welcome to the Jungle, Nighttrain, Paradise City, Think About You, Sweet Child O Mine. 3.7/5

JUNGLE BABY

Surprising, did not expect to like guns n roses. this album is just straight rock. A good amt of bangers on here, Sweet child o mine is such a great song

Classic.

It's stupid, misogynistic, devoid of depth and loud and I love every second of it. I'm about 120 albums in and I've had rock classics like Sabbath and others and they've left me cold. This does not. Admittedly I had this on cd when I was 13 and so I put it on loud and sang every lyric at the top of my voice. Great, foot stomping, lyric shouting, head banging nonsense.

Iconic.

It's got some bangers on it that's for sure

It’s shockingly fun. Not world changing, but I get why people like the band so much. The greatest offense is how overplayed the singles are, also we did not need the orgasm

There are a few songs on here that are so entirely connected with driving down to the Jersey Shore for prom weekend... my first taste of beer, the first time I saw a girl blow smoke into a guy's mouth while making out, staying with a friend while our dates were around but not with us... They were doing their own thing... and we were trying to get with them somehow... Anyway the rest of the album is relentless to the point of it being kinda boring, but I knew when Paradise City came on I couldn't give it less than a 4.

I mean okay. Guilty pleasure but I don't need much more of this. "Feel my serpentine" is something else.

This album slaps. Turns out I’d have been a rocker if I was alive in the 80s.

Damn this jams. This makes me want to steal my old dead beat alcoholic step dads grey and black striped 1967 mustang Shelby GT500 and peruse the town with the boys in search of the ever elusive poon tang. Is this one of the best debut albums of all time?? I mean to have three of the most iconic rock songs of all time on your first album is unreal. What amazes me is that you could tell me any other song besides those three are iconic and I would believe it. They all just have such a dope, confident and slick sound. An interesting exception to the rule of lack of variety which usually brings me down on an album but somehow despite most of these sounding relatively similar, each song has a unique vibe. Slash is shredding and axl has the voice of a dark angel.

Great stuff. The hits are spread throughout, unlike a lot of the albums we’ve had that are very front loaded. One of those albums that feels very American. I still remember the first time I saw Slash. He just permeated cool and needed no introduction. Kinda like a rapper in that he was one of those guys that you never saw without his sunglasses on. I still think I’ve never seen his eyeballs. He really is like an anime character. Welcome to the Jungle was the introduction song for GH3, so anytime someone turned on the game they heard that first riff. It’s actually hard for me to believe this album came out only 6 years before I was born. I would have guessed way earlier. An all time great.

It’s wild that a band’s debut album has three of the most well-known rock songs of all time on it. An iconic band and Axl Rose has an iconic voice. It rocks the whole way through and was a gritty but fun listen.

This one probably melted faces when it came out. What a debut. Three masterpieces that have been played to death accompanied by tracks that kind of fly under the radar, but still fly high. Somehow hard to rate today because of the overall weariness, but I guess I can give it the most rock solid solid rock rating: 4/5.

Some of the lyrics are problematic, but otherwise this shit just fucking rocks. Sweet Child O' Mine is a banger, Welcome to the Jungle is insane. This album is definitely Hall of Fame worthy, but it's not quite inner circles Hall of Fame, if that makes sense.

A couple of years ago I thought this album didn't really hold up to the "test of time," maybe it was just album burn out. Now listening to this again, and what seemed like fresh ears this album is STILL a banger.

This is THE G&R album. These famous rockers made a career out of these songs and still are the ones people want to hear. Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City, and Sweet Child of Mine. I personally don’t care for Axels voice but love Slash’s riffs and solos!

This one is a little tougher to rank. Because, while songs like "Welcome to the Jungle", "Paradise City" and "Sweet Child o' Mine" are undeniably legendary rock tunes...gosh, am I ever tired of hearing them ("Mr. Brownstone", though, has not yet been overplayed for me, and I dig that track plenty). Anyways, what is there to say? Slash is one of the greatest guitarists of our time, and he comes up with some great riffs here. Axl is in fine form (even if the lyrics aren't so hot). The whole band sounds powerful, if a little too steeped in that 1980's cheese. This is maybe a 3.5 star record for me personally, but I'll bump it up out of respect for its reputation.

Solid rock album. No wonder it's onenof the best selling ever.

I’m not a huge Beatles fans so I have a hard time rating their music. I respect those who enjoy the music but Ive always had a hard time getting into anything by them.

It took me some years to get into GnR but I definitely got there. Slash is unbelievable.

As is the case with most GnR albums, a few really great songs displaying Axl’s range and Slash’s talent but also several songs which are downright awful.

Holds up pretty well compared to their contemporaries - especially the singles The album tracks are pretty stock standard fare

Classic hard rock album.

could i write poetry to this? y i am fairly certain that i did in fact write shitty middle school poetry to it

I was surprised by how many big hits were on this. A lot more enjoyable than expected and i might revisit it

Classic album!

Clássico!

Cracking album

True to their name, like a rose growing from a pile of manure, this band grew out of the detritus that is 80's hair metal, to create a surprisingly strong, genre-redeeming, nay, genre-defining album. The only hair metal worth listening to, and it is worth listening to. 4 roses out of 5 🌹🌹🌹🌹

I think this is as close to a guilty pleasure I have. It's just all so stupid. All these clumsy euphemisms for things but then every other word is fuck? So stupid. I can't help but love it. Will I ever listen to the whole album again? No, but some of the songs are amazing.

Twelve-year-old me thought these guys, especially Axl, were so badass. Over-forty-year-old me thinks they are talented though theatrically (and actually) trashy, and that Axl Rose, has through the years, remained a petulant manchild. I played this cassette, any singles and GNR Lies on repeat back in the late 80s/early 90s, because I, an actual petulant child, found a kindred soul with dirtbag adult Axl Rose. It is no wonder that Trump's favourite music video is reportedly "November Rain." Guns N' Roses speaks to the petulant dirtbag kid in us all.

Formative album for me that I overlistened to in HS. The hits are overplayed, and everything else is great.

A classic, hard rock album full of fun, energetic tracks.

This is a great hard rock album. While not that fond of most of the 'hair metal' genre this is so much better than most of their contemporaries efforts. Sweet Child of Mine is an instant classic that stands comparison with the best rock songs of any era. Welcome to the Jungle and Paradise City are the other standouts. while Mr Brownstone and Michelle are the best of the rest. Slash's riffing and soloes are sublime throughout

Every song of theirs I’ve ever heard was on this album. Either they achieved perfection or just suck.

So many bangers.

Bunch of songs that only work with Axl, a few songs that would be good if it were anyone but Axl. The hits are unreal

Hyvää rokkia, ehkä vähän liian samanlaisia biisejä, Axl vähän ärsyttää ja hitit. Mutta ei-hitit kuulostaa tuoreelta!

I love the opening to Welcome to the Jungle. I really like this old 80 rock sound. There's something so nostalgic about it. I think I would have had a lot of fun if I were born just 10 yrs earlier 4 stars.

Guns N Roses are pretty good for rock music.

A great album that reflects a return to metal rock. Too bad Axel is such an asshole.

Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City, and Sweet Child O' Mine? So many Dad Rock classics I feel like I'm at a barbeque!

Excited to listen to this. Never really heard this album fully. Welcome to the Jungle is such a classic rock song. One Out ta get Me. Other songs between this song and Jungle were alright. Nothing special. At this point, this album just becomes a classic. I am not too big of a GNR fan but when you listen to an album like this one, you know why it is a classic.

Big thanks to slash and the other members of G&R (not axel rose) for this album lmaoooo

Good stuff. Arena rock isn’t my favorite style of rock but there is no denying that most of these tunes are classic bangers.

Fabulous choice.

How can you not like the singles from this album?? Solid album and love the guitar sound. The other songs on the album are a bit unspectacular though.

This hits hard in my office working on excel models. I heard axl rose fucked princess Diana and that's why mossad had to take her out. Didn't realize paradise city was on this album, prob my fav guns and roses. They're an interesting band cuz I think they came a little bit after the heyday of rock and roll but kind of brought it back. Axl rose even sang for acdc after that beret guy died I thing. I remember a bunch of edgy elementary school kids with guns and roses tshirts from their older siblings when I was growing up. Ultimately this album rocks cocks but it's a little before my time, kinda one dimensional for my taste but if I were at a concert or in the middle of a drinking montage there's nothing else I'd want to hear.

One of the most iconic and well known albums of all time. Some of the most recognisable rock n roll songs and guitar parts ever created. Simple rock music for the radio done perfectly. While not as good or as interesting as some of the genres other heavyweight bands were releasing at the time, it’ll go down as one of the greats due to its ease of access and ability to draw in casual fans. So while it is an album the everyone should hear at least once, its simplicity, which gives it its success, keeps it from being a perfect album for me, it just doesn’t have enough interesting, new or unique parts that keep me going back. The absolute definition of radio rock by the numbers, but it is probably the best to ever do that exact thing.

So many great tracks, but not an album i listen through in its entirety very often.

It’s all about the riffs. Goosebumps on the build up.

It’s good. Think about you and Out Ta Get Me are the worst tracks. Tons of bangers.

The first album that deserves a good rating. Some decent songs that you can listen to until the end.

i love guns n' roses so much, one of my favourite rock albums

Awesome

High energy and a lot of fun with great riffs. Great debut!

I clearly remember when I heard this album for the first time. I was around 10 years old and at a church summer camp. I’m pretty sure it was during the year this album became huge. The camp counselor who was in charge of our bunkhouse told me and the other kids “you guys gotta listen to this” and played us a cassette of this album on a boombox. We played that album a lot during that camp. The counselor’s name was Steve, which I only remember because they were fascinated that someone with a common name like Steve helped make this album with people with uncommon names like Axl, Slash, Izzy, and Duff. The big three songs on this album are solid five star songs, among the greatest songs of the 20th century, and Paradise City might need to be played at my funeral. I know this album was everywhere for a while, but I still haven’t tired of those three songs. The rest of the album is fine. I listened to this album over lunch at work, and I got choked up a little bit during Paradise City when the bridge or faster whatever part starts about two thirds in. What is this 1,001 project doing to me?

What can I say about this album? The opening track "Welcome to the Jungle" sets the scene for a great album, and the massive "Paradise City" and "Sweet Child o' Mine" confirm the greatness. It's just a shame that Axl Rose is such an egotistical twat.

This album is a lot of fun.

Now I know why the parents wanted to ban Rock n Roll made me want cause a ruckus

5 bangers and, 5, more, bangers

It's difficult to rate this album objectively with it having some of the most overplayed songs ever. I think most of this albums hovers around a score of 3 but the strength of the 3 big songs elevates this to a strong 4. Slash's playing is great throughout. Vocals sounded a little off in places, like they were spliced together. Incredible for a debut album.

I feel like I’m watching an episode of Headbanger’s Ball the last 2 days. Axel Rose has aged along with me. :). Strange to think he is just a bit older than me. He seemed so much older when I was in late HS and early college. TD said Sweet Child of Mine was the song to which he used to think of me.

-YEAHHHHH ANOTHER ROCK ALBUM -some mf GUNS N ROSES -welcome to the jungle is SO good -nasty perfect guitar in this song fr -i might be messing with fate and the spirits for saying this but i might like guns n roses better than metallica -just because i had a metallica album the other day so i can compare -lead singer of guns n roses is DOING IT FOR ME! awesome voice -nightrain is also really good -omg obsessed with the day in the life we are given in mr brownstone -i am really enjoying all of these songs -overall this is a GREAT album and is getting four stars from me

Classic! Great album! 4-4.5/5

- Absolutely nothing beats Welcome to the Jungle - Shit bangs - Vocals and guitar are fantastic - 4.5

- some real classics on here - didn’t love some of the other songs tho

People say that Nevermind killed hair metal, but I think the beginning of that started with this album. This is not hair metal even though they had similar looks. This was straight ahead hard rock closer to AC/DC than Poison. There is a serious rawness of this record which helped the overall album. It can also not be understated on how big this album was when it was released. Nothing was like it.

I loved this album when I was around 18 years old and listened to it a lot. It's a great debut album with so many hit songs. The hits are the best here. Probably I wouldn't like this album that much if I lived in the US and listened to these songs every day on the radio...Sweet Child'O Mine is played in Europe a lot, but that's one song that I will never get tired of. I am not a fan of late 80s hair metal but this is more hard rock. It's a 4 from me overall.

One of the best most shaping early rock and roll albums with hits like "Welcome To The Jungle", "Sweet Child O' Mine", and "Paradise City" some of the greatest hits of rock history still played today

Amazing rock album

The overall impact on the music and especially hard rock of this album is really high. It mends old hard rock with modern hard rock. Important stuff.

Massive hit album for GNR. Most of their best known songs were all off this album. Signature Slash sound on all the tracks. 53 straight minutes of Axl Rose's voice was a little much though.

Something to move rock away from hair metal. The hits rock. The misses miss, but not by much.

I liked how his voice went up and down. Really good album, loved the guitar.

better than i realized it was

A few heavy hitters in an otherwise mid album. An impressive debut.

All time debut rock album. Great guitar throughout. Maybe a little derivative of other stuff though

I thought this was a really strong album, so many classics. I hesitate to give it 5 stars but it's so close in my eyes. Some songs are a bit grating but this album rocks overall.

Un 4, pero porque tiene Sweet Child Of Mine.

Three HUGE hits in one album: Paradise City, Welcome To The Jungle, Sweet Child O' Mine. Good stuff overall

I can't say I was excited to listen to this album, thanks to the ubiquitous nature of classic rock. You can't escape it. Commercials love it. TV loves it. Movies love it. It becomes the background music for a new vacuum cleaner or Tide Pod. Listening to the album reminded me of where it started. Snake boot wearing, long haired, drugged out party animals giving a skull-ringed middle finger to the very lifestyle that their music now is inextricably associated with. Appreciation for this album had been planted. I'm glad I listened to this today.

Welcome to the jungle baby! This really brings me back! A staple of my youth that I haven't listened to in ages, this should be fun! Still a fun listen didn't exactly age that well but still worth a listen

Classic, metal, 80’s genre defining

Good album. The hits are huge, and the non-hits are good too. I've listened to the full album a few times before, so this was an easy listen.

A quintessential 80's rock album! It is everything that embodies 80s rock - it is loud; it is fast; it is rude; it'll get your heart pumping and your head banging all day long.

really good. like REALLY good. idk if I’m skewing my results bc this is the very first day that I’m doing this but i am a huge fan. awesome aesthetic.

This record is undeniable and also I don’t know if I ever really need to hear it again.

I like how Axl's voice is not always the same.... he's so fun with his voice. Overall, I Love watching these guys live.... LOVE!!! But I'd never sit back and listen to the album... but they are some of the best musicians that ever were... so... 4

FAVO: Welcome to the jungle, Nightrain, Paradise City, Sweet Child 'o Mine

Solides Album mit vielen Klassikern, Top: Welcome To The Jungle It's So Easy Paradise City Sweet Child O' Mine Flop: My Michelle

This was fun! Listened to it flying home, didn't realize the lead had a similar voice to Damiano

Not my favorite genre of rock but pretty close

its a classic

Album 5/1001 Best song: Mr. Brownstone

Appetite for Destruction is the debut album by American hard rock band Guns N' Roses. Initially receiving little attention, it wasn't until a year after release, touring, and radio airplay that this album received the commercial success it deserved. This album topped the US Billboard 200 and US Top Hard Rock Albums charts almost a year after release, and it has since been certified 18x platinum in the US (among certifications in many other countries). It became the best-selling debut album of all time, and the seventh best-selling in the US (which makes it one of the best-selling albums globally). This hard rock album stirred up the current rock scene at the time by incorporating similar genres of music such as metal, punk rock, glam metal, and old school blues rock. Guns N' Roses have not produced an album this commercially successful since this debut album, which makes this breakout album all the more unique. Appetite For Destruction is a wild, fun time. It's a classic in the hard rock genre with a few staple songs that everyone should know. It was a blessing to finally listen to this amazing album all in one go. Don't miss out on this album and give it a listen!

This was fun, from the first dick punch of 'Welcome to the Jungle' opening the album, to the songs I didn't know but really liked (It's so Easy, Mr Brownstone), to the familiar songs I still know the words to (you know the ones.) A few clunkers but mostly a fun listen.

Such a great album. So much classic songs. Slash is rocking his Les Paul, Axel is in top form. 4 stars

I think I've heard half of the songs on here 5,000 times and the other half once. 4/5

dakika 1 gol 1 guzel album 👍

Pretty good, although many songs sounded the same

Früher gehasst, heute gerne gehört. Mehr 80‘ Rock als Metal

Classic album. I’m just over it.

listened to again the album isn't incredible overall, but there's so many memorable hits tho

lovely

I wasn’t expecting much from this, and I was pleasantly surprised. In reality it’s just ok, but it has fun energy, and memorable tracks. More of a guilty pleasure. Cool!

Un 4, pero porque tiene Sweet Child Of Mine.

if I hear "paradise city" one more time... but in all seriousness, I think the overplayedness of three of the tracks really took me out of it because I'd heard them all the time, especially growing up with my dad in charge of the AUX. other than that, "my Michelle" is a bop, and slash is a musical genius.

Loved this as a kid. Straightforward hard rock with a ton of hits. Nothing groundbreaking, but great at what it does.

Yup I have this one, classic album ofc. Always liked no 2 and 12 apart from the obvious hits.

In the 80s I played this over and over. Now I still love several songs but don't enjoy the album as a whole enough for full marks.

i am *really* not a hair metal girlie but there was a lot to like in here. except for the outro i can’t stand sweet child of mine. overplayed. welcome to the jungle will always be my nostalgia baby though.

I’ve been meaning to check out Appetite for Destruction and I can’t really say I was disappointed. A grand, fun rock record with some brilliant riffs and addictive tunes. On the most part I’m also a fan of Axl Rose’s vocal performances minus some tracks. Don’t get me wrong I don’t think this is exactly a revolutionary rock record like some people do and the last few tracks are pretty plain (wtf are them sex noises on Rocket Queen?!?!?) , but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t really enjoy listening to this record. RATING: 7.7/10

30th August 2023 Listened during the day - took Dusty to be registered, first bath and had tomari g. Some stone cold classics elevate an otherwise pedestrian album. But what classics, the song crafting is great.

Rocks. As one of the most iconic rock albums, it still holds up after over 30 years.

Alfa Slash guitar. My Michelle is the best song. “Take me down to the Paradise City Where the girl are fat and they got big titties”

alfa it's so EZ giving this a 4

The hits are great, some of the others felt like filler songs.

They became famous despite having Axl Rose as their singer. This album was one of the first I bought as a kid, so I played it a lot. Over the years it's moved to the bottom of the stack and I hadn't played it for years until now. I didn't remember all the songs. That means not all of them are great. About half of the record is awesome, the other half is just OK. Favorite song: Welcome to the Jungle.

Some solid classics in there. All-around good album.

very very nostalgic, such a good album, even tho it doesn’t fit my style

Decent

Thought about half were forgettable and half were all time classics. Great debut album. Rating: 4.3

guitar hero music. I feel like I lived through the era where this album reclaimed its final large part of cultural significance. Its impact on middle school boys and boomer dads alike is unheard of. jammed with classics but a couple forgettable tracks, none bad though.

Obviously a classic but some of the lyrics have NOT aged well. Despite that, the gritty guitar riffs hit hard and will hype you up as long as you don't pay attention too much to the lyrics.

4.5 pretty epic!

timeless, does anyone not like this?

Wasn't expecting to like it as much as i'm doing rn!

Really solid acdc esque

I thought would love it: honestly slightly underwhelmed by an album with so many (3) hits. I just thought that all the other songs would hold more meaning and creativity to them. I get many would call this a banging debut from the holy grail of rock bands but I was left with a feeling of slight confusion on where the hype was.

GNR are an overrated band but it’s difficult to deny the significance of this record, a debut no less. Lots of bangers that still hold up to this day.

good old LA sleazy street rock

One of the biggest rock bands of the 80’s-90’s. I am familiar with the biggest hits of this album but I never listened to the whole thing. Overall the non-famous songs were good to ok. Axl Rose is a cunt.

GnR still Rick. There's a reason this album was such a big hit. There are 3 perfect songs and every other one is a 8 or 9 out of 10.

Hard rock/heavy metal lektira 1. 5 2. 5 3. 4 4. 3 5. 3 6. 5 7. 3 8. 4 9. 6 10. 3 11. 4 12. 5 4, 17

wow, did guns n' roses go hard on their first full length album or what? they opened with "welcome to the jungle," which is a banger of an opener and is still so great after all these years. this album does contain three of their biggest hits, and in these kinds of situations with previous albums, the other songs typically are lackluster. that didn't happen here--gnr went all the way, even on sentimental tracks like "think about you." i say sentimental, but you know what i mean. even songs that aren't hits, like "mr. brownstone," are absolute bangers. appetite for destruction (an amazing album title if i ever heard it) was a fun album, plain and simple. it didn't invite deep discussion like bob dylan or leonard cohen's music does, but it's enjoyable, as music should be. 3.5

Damn, what an outstanding debut album. It's hard to believe that a band could churn out such absolute timeless jams as "Welcome to the Jungle", "Sweet Child O' Mine", and "Paradise City" all on their first album, but Guns n' Roses did it. The other songs on the album, though not as big of hits, are also consistently excellent. GNR is just one of those bands that had a winning formula from the beginning. This isn't a particularly "deep" album; it's just fun music!

I'm not the biggest Guns N' Roses fan, but the amazing thing about this record is how they burst forth fully formed right from the start. Some bands start out tentative and take off over time. Some bands have a great first record and evolve. GNR is definitively already an iconic band on track 1, side 1 of their first album. It's pretty remarkable.

love it. quintessential rock, made me look into their history more, and not sure what to think of axl rose (axl rose husband, is the only thing I am thinking), great tunes, and insane debut album. but sweet child is just so overplayed. every cool kid plays that shit over and over again. still great song tho so...

A bit of a reaction to the bland, "good vibes" hard rock of the era. This is a mix of gritty and dark lyrics with music to match. Axl's vocal range is the stuff of legends. Sounds a bit too much like Aerosmith, too often for my tastes, and the lyrics haven't dated well (unless you still enjoy heavy doses of misogyny). Still, it's a groundbreaking record and the band probably would have been even bigger than they were if it weren't for another music scene ready to redefine the genre on the short horizon.

This album is pretty darn good. Had some nice recognizable hits on it. Was fun to listen to. Here are my individual song reviews... Welcome to the Jungle (8/10): Such a banger. The Axl Rose moans are classic. It's So Easy (6/10): Sounds like a Guns N Roses song, but didn't have anything special to set it apart. Pretty solid but only slightly above average. Nightrain (7.5/10): I liked the feel of this song. It was pretty upbeat and felt like more of a feel-good song. Out Ta Get Me (5.5/10): Decent feel, didn't really stick with me in any way. Mr. Brownstone (5.5/10): I believe this song is about some sort of drugs, so I can't really say I relate. Had a nice sound to it though. Paradise City (9/10): TAKE ME HOMEE absolutely love this song. My Michelle (6.5/10): I got into this one a little bit, I didn't really expect to. Pretty decent. Think About You (7.5/10): I never heard this one before, I really thought it was kinda good actually. Sweet Child O' Mine (8.5/10): OK yeah this one is a little overplayed but still a beautiful song. The riff on this one is a classic. You're Crazy (8/10): This one had me up and dancing! Did not expect this so be such a banger. Anything Goes (7/10): I liked it! Not out of this world or anything but it was a good song. Rocket Queen (7/10): Great song!

contains certified classics

Haven't listened to this whole album in ages but it's a classic. Bangers all the way through. On Out Ta Get Me right now, and it hasn't slowed down once yet. A little bit AC/DC-ish in the bit of sameness from song to song, but man do GnR know how to execute. And a good reminder of why I always loved Slash as a guitar player. Yep, excellent album. Classic, loud, in your face rock music. Awesome guitar work, and tons of attitude. Glad to have a reason to revisit this one.

Listened to it many times. It's a classic but not what I'm into anymore. That bad boy excess lifestyle rock is old news but not in a retro way.

For a first album to have so many hits that still play 40 years later is impressive.

I have never listened to a Guns’n’Roses album before. Pity. This was a real surprise. I don’t know quite what I expected, but above all, this is just really good rock’n’roll. I have a couple of their singles, including Sweet Child O’ Mine, which I always liked. And like anyone who was alive at the time, I was familiar with Paradise City, which I also liked. But there’s so much here that I really enjoy - the opening 2 tracks set a fierce pace &, really, it just rocks all the way. Slash is terrific. The music never gets boring. Who knew? Not me.

Man, I really want to hate this album... but it is a catchy hard rock romp. I mean, it's objectively terrible, but far and away best in class, and sort of fun. Marc Burrows in Drowned in Sound writes (in 2018): "There are several moments during Guns N’ Roses recent Download Festival appearance where the phrase ’The Most Dangerous Band In The World‘ pops into your head. Not because it’s apt, but because it’s hard to square that much-touted tagline with what you’re seeing – a three-hour plus set overblown with classic rock covers, fronted by a rock n’ roll Liberace, rings dripping from his fingers, fringed jackets swapped every three songs. But every once in a while, just for a few seconds, the polished surface cracks and you get a glimpse of the exhilarating scum underneath. A reminder of the band this once was. Every time that happens, without fail, it’s during a song from Appetite For Destruction. When GN’R crawled out of Hollywood in the mid Eighties they were fucking feral. Penniless gutter rats, three of them strung out on smack, all of them boozehounds, all of them messed up in some way. In LA’s thriving glam scene, amid the pretty-boys of Poison, Mötley Crüe, Ratt and Great White, GN’R were from another, scuzzier planet. … From the very beginning GN’R were a rare real-deal in rock n’ roll. A perfect storm of punk, metal and sleaze-rock with an unexpected sideline in epic ballads… Appetite for Destruction, their three-decade-old debut was the perfect representation of that band. You can taste the scum. " This reminds me of Thin Lizzy's Live and Dangerous (a clear influence). They have an amazing rock'n'roll outlaw swagger (that they backed up with some real life bad behaviour), but does anyone REALLY believe they are all that dangerous? And I never really bought the 'punk influences'; I mean, they covered a bunch of punk songs over their career, but their sound is consistently hard rock/lite metal. The rhythm section has a lot more swing than most bands of the genre, which I appreciate. Big choruses, catchy riffs, high energy and bit more authentic rock attitude than most of their contemporaries, this is an album I secretly enjoy. They later self-inflated into a bloated pomp-rock behemoth, which was occasionally amusing, but usually best ignored. But here, they are lean and mean, and (somewhat) dangerous to know.

Difficult to give this album a rating. One part of me wants to give it a 2 and complain about how I've heard these damn songs on the radio for 30 years. How Axle can't sing, and it's garbage music. But then I hear Sweet Child O' Mine and something tells me to give this album a 5. How they managed to fit all these bangers on their debut album is really incredible. So I transport myself back to 6th grade, and think how I felt hearing Welcome to the Jungle and Paradise City. They captured lightning in a bottle on this album.

Maybe i'm a little bias because I grew up with a lot of these songs, but this album was a great listen from front to back, even if it did sound a bit similar at times, it kept me engaged and felt shorter than its runtime, which usually is a good thing, and it definitely was in this case. The classic hits still hit just as hard as they always did, such as Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City, and Sweet Child O' Mine, timeless cuts like those never lose flavor. And even deep cuts such as It's So Easy, Nightrain, and Rocket Queen stuck with me after the full listen of this album. Overall, a very pleasing listen and definitely a staple album in the genre (despite me not being familiar with the genre itself, this surely has to have some mark or staple on it, surely.)

I was really expecting this one to be the hits and a bunch of crap but it was actually a really good and energetic listen

Just pure bangers

Reminds me of university. I can hear how professional it is, still not sure how much I like this version of rock.

Full of classics. The high points are bangers, the mid points, are, well, mid. Kind of surprised they were actually able to catch lightning in a bottle 3 times on a single album. Never listened to any of their other albums (specifically that double album, of which the name is eluding me), so it's hard to do a relative comparison. Honestly a 4 just on the strength and reach of its hits, with some nice surprises tucked in between. Standouts: Welcome To The Jungle, Nightrain, Paradise City, Think About You, Sweet Child O' Mine

I didn't much care for GnR at the time - too much cock rock, not enough metal - but I can definitely appreciate this album these days. Plus, the big singles make great karaoke tunes! Fave track - "Paradise City" and "Sweet Child O Mine" both have lots of fond memories of whole rooms fulla people screaming along!

Yes, it's classic, but the best song is the one their surprisingly die-hard fans hate the most (with possible exception of "Patience"). What does that tell us? One thinks they should also be held to account for making so many people hate rock music and charge many fans and critics with being rockist.

I was never a fan of this band. Except some singles I couldn't care that much for them. Now I listened to my first Guns N' Roses album and I was positively surprised. There is some direct approach that is quite refreshing. It works all very well together, especially the guitars in contrast to Axl Rose's voice. Am I going to listen to more albums? Probably not. But it was a nice detour nonethless.

Very soldier like, feels like it was written around war

welcoe to the jungle

Nothing insane. Just a really solid rock album. Some absolute classics on it like Sweet Child O' Mine and Paradise City but the track between those highs were generally uninspiring. Not bad but nothing revolutionary and some of them sounded a little cookie cutter. Still solid enough to be an 8/10 but there isn't much to say about thins album besides that.

Á þessu átti ég innilega ekki von, þetta er dúndurplata. Hef ekki hlustað í áratugi, en hún eldist afar vel. Filler inn á milli en aldrei leiðinlegt og sumt er bara verulega töff, og skemmtilegt.

4.5 stars. Some amazing songs

Pretty good. It’s got their 3 best songs on it. The rest is decent too. 8.5/10.

Classic. Loved it back then, still love it now.

Great hits, not my favorite after that

Full of classiiiicsss

2023/03/02

The album was the bridge from hair metal to grunge for the mainstream.

While sprinkled with iconic hits this album otherwise felt a little more hair-metal at times than I was anticipating. The vocals are impressive for hard rock/metal. Lyrics don't hold back from the "sex, drugs, rock & roll" theme and the guitar solos are prominent throughout, most highly featured in intro to the standout "Sweet Child O' Mine." Other hits are "Welcome To The Jungle" and "Paradise City."

I was familiar with a lot of these songs although I had not listened to the entire album previously. The album has some absolute hits. I did not know this was their debut album. They really knocked it out of the park. I dont know if I want to listen to the entire album again. I enjoyed it, but there are some songs that were just ok. It could have also been a little shorter.

You cannot deny that "Welcome To The Jungle," however overplayed, is one of the greatest openings for an album ever. The first minute of that song is so iconic, building and building to a musical explosion. Would I call this a perfect album? Not by a longshot. But that first track really gets everything going and sets the table for what is coming up. There are a few songs where you feel the explicit lyrics are there jus to shock, and not for the song itself. Reminds me a bit of the Sex Pistols in that way (but they definitely are way more skilled than them). This is Axl Rose in his prime, a force to be reckoned with. Slash's guitar work... wow. Sure, there are three songs on here that you probably never want to hear again because they were played all the time on the radio. But there's a reason for that. They're well-crafted rawk songs. (Yes, that is the correct spelling for them, definite stadium crowd-pleasers.) The other songs are... okay. Again, a few have Axl sewaring because oooooh, look how edgy he is. Still, everyone is firing on all cylinders on pretty much every song. And as much as I want to pick these songs apart, they are really well-done.

“You know where you are? You’re in the Jungle now baby, You’re gonna dieeeee!” Fourteen-year-old me loved this album. It was (and still is) quite a rocker. I haven’t listened to it in decades, probably because I had the misfortune of seeing them live when they were opening for Metallica during their Black Album tour. They were awful live. Back to the album though. The tracks I remember enjoying most were still pretty cool. Side one is solid throughout with the standout tracks “Welcome to the Jungle”, “Mr. Brownstone”, and “Paradise City”. Side two though is quite forgettable except for the standout “Sweet Child of Mine” which has one of those classic guitar riffs that almost anyone who played guitar during that time tried to learn. I’m not sure if it deserves it but for me this is personally a 4-star album. Partly due to the memories attached to it and partly to the good songwriting on the solid tracks.

Let's start with the obvious - Axl Rose is a trainwreck. The lyrics are disturbing and no one should ever try to imitate the lifestyle they model. But man this album kicks ass. It was a kick in the teeth when it came out and is still a pretty strong album. Welcome to the Jungle is an awesome song right from those iconic first notes. Slash is on fire throughout the album. Paradise City and Sweet Child O' Mine were overplayed ad nauseum but are both great songs. I have to give it a 4 for two reasons: One, I just can't give a 5 to their lyrics (even though let's face it that's part of what gives GNR their edge) and two, the non-hits are pretty cliche 80s hard rock songs (e.g., It's So Easy, Night Train), even if they rock harder than most.

Okay, here we go! I think this is the first time I've listened to a complete Gn'R album; my relationship with the band has always been complicated. For starters, they were verboten in my household, by decree of my mother, growing up (joining Snoop Doggy Dogg, MC Eiht and The Beavis and Butt-Head Experience.) An even bigger factor is likely the fact that I think Axl Rose is an absolute idiot! I also vacillate frequently between whether I love his voice or hate it. 😂 Regardless of my thoughts or feelings on Axl or his voice, he and it suit the music here very well and the music is mostly pretty friggin' awesome. Sleazy as all get out, but awesome. This album feels pretty much exactly how I would picture L.A. in the mid-80s - the real L.A. not the made-for-TV L.A. The violence, the grime, the sex, the drugs and the rock n' roll. I can see why my mother found this so alarming - I'm sure she came to it through extra-glorified media fearmongering too, which also tracks given the era. The album is definitely not without its cringy moments, but all in all, I enjoyed it far more than I expected I would.

Great album

i heard this album 123523434 but ok

As good as I remember, rock and roll at its finest. Great riffing, killer solos, and Axel's unique vocals make this one a win for sure. Even the less popular tracks rock, and the closer is one of my favorites on the album.

5/12, 42%

I still think that Gun N' Roses aren't the best rock band of all time or from the 80's, but ill give them credit and say some of the stuff here ain't all bad, but I don't think I would still place them in my own top bands of all time any time soon.

Classic. I have to admit, there is a filler-ish quality to some of the songs on here. Songs like "Nightrain" or "My Michelle" can border on the boring, although Slash's virtuosity ultimately elevates them to a firm rating of solid. That said, when this album rocks, it rocks like no other. Some of my all-time favourite songs are album openers, and there are few openers as awesome and memorable as 'Welcome to the Jungle'. 'Paradise City' rocks so damn hard, preceded by the not-quite-as-great-but-still-fantastic "Mr. Brownstone". "Sweet Child O' Mine" has long ago joined the rock n' roll pantheon of "songs whose opening riffs are so seminal you're going to get made fun of if you play them in a guitar store." Kudos to the album for not peaking after "Sweet Child", as it immediately kicks back into the high-octane head-banger "You're Crazy" and comes to a respectable close with "Rocket Queen".

So cheesy, so ridiculous, so over the top. Pretty impressive amount of hits for a debut record. Needless to say pretty sick guitars.

Nostalgic, lots of great songs packed in here.

Damn, I really am gonna become THAT uncle; first I enjoy Iron Maiden, and now I think this was pretty good too. I do have a few problems with this album to keep it from that five star, though. First, some songs do tend to blend together, especially in the middle. Axl Rose's voice, while impressive in range, can get a little annoying when he is doing his higher range, and finally Paradise City. Just in general a bad song in my opinion. So, just a pretty good album with some issues, which I suppose is exactly what I expect from late 80's hard rock. Slash's guitar playing is crazy for a (famous) debut such as this. Sure, the hits from this album are annoying now, but it's still crazy the amount of songs from this one album that get that treatment. Even the big boys don't get that

One of those bands where I've only ever heard singles pass by on radio. I could never really get past Axl Rose's singing. But still gonna give this a shot. Musically this is great, the tight rhythm section of Steven Adler and Duff McKagan, killer guitar work by Izzy Stradlin and ofcourse Slash. But yeah, the vocals are a big gripe for me, I just don't dig them. But the songs are enjoyable at most, not a band I would fondly put on time to time, but that's okay. Key tracks for me: Welcome To The Jungle, Nightrain, Mr. Brownstone, Paradise City, Think About You, Sweet Child O' Mine, You're Crazy, Rocket Queen. 7.5 out of 10

Very good, very iconic. It's not really my thing, it's so showy and not very deep. I didn't realize this was their debut, it makes me more impressed - I mean, Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City AND Sweet Child O' Mine on their debut album?? Amazing.

Un 4, pero porque tiene Sweet Child Of Mine.

Love it

There's some awesome tracks on here, that are well-known. Some of it is slightly over-egged testosterone tinged but it's a solid album. Slash rocks.

Catchy rhythm. Cool chords on the guitar. Lyrics kinda cringe.

Welcome to the Jungle is such a great opening song it has been used to open myriad events ever since. Hearing it at the Broncos-Jaguars game at Wembley a couple months ago took me right back home. An uneven album to be sure but the hits shine so bright.

Solide premier album et leur meilleur.

I have heard this record sooooo many times. GnR has never been a favorite of mine. But this record is a great one.

This album starts with an absolute banger of a tune and has some fantastic songs throughout. Just needed a little bit more to be 5 from me but a solid 4. Would be a 4 and half if I could give it.

I wasn't expecting much going in, because I don't think I like this type of music very much, but this was a very solid album, especially for a debut album. Axl Rose's singing range is very impressive. Going from his voice in Welcome To The Jungle to his voice in It's So Easy was jarring, obviously in a good way. I know it's a very mainstream song, but I've always had a soft spot for Sweet Child O' Mine. But, overall, solid album. My favourite songs were It's So Easy and Sweet Child O' Mine.

A hard rocking fast fun album. This album has some of their best songs and this is easily their best album. The guitar riffs on this are amazing. The drum work is great. The only thing I dislike is the singers voice sometimes but this is an impressive album when compared to the other ones on this list. 8.2/10

The hits are undeniable bangers but the rest are vulgar and forgettable

This is a pretty good album with some absolute bangers. You can turn it off after sweet child o mine. Bit too many similar fillers.

Classic rock album

Love Sweet Child O' Mine All songs were solid, no others were real memorable but I should probably give it another listen because I did like the vibe and was not listening as close as I should have

This is legitimately a 5 star album but I'm too much of a coward to display it on my account's HIGHEST RATED ALBUMS page.

Outside of the well known songs it's like a parody, I guess the well known ones are as well but they've become archetypes. 4.4 on the strength of 3 songs.

Heard it before?: Not in entirety but of course I’ve heard a few from this one Enjoy it: YES! It’s so unbelievably raw and the talent of each member is endless which all combined leaves you with one of the most important rock albums of all time, enjoyable and timeless Favourite song: so many to choose from but it will be, Track 3 - Nightrain

Great riffs, but completely over the top and overblown. Fun silly classics

Great album! Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City, Sweet Child of Mine. 4/5

I heard the visuals at Coachella were so sick they made Ryan puke.

Strong 4, this seems timeless

Rock n roll

Welcome to the jungle: cool guitar and very cool opener. Great vocals and let’s you know what your in for. 4/5 It’s so easy: great guitar as per and instrumental but the vocals and idea isn’t amazing. 3/5 Night train: guitar tips and vocals just top it again. Back to the good stuff. 4/5 Out to get me: proper rock music. Great guitar solo and got me feeling some way. Again great does all sound similar but is good. 4/5 Mr brownstone: funky lyrics and funky guiatr but Not as good unfortunately. 3/5 Paradise city: good everything. Good use of a synthesiser. Love this song. Rocking guitar. Gotta be a 5/5 My Michelle: a misleading song at first. It’s good. Love his vocals on this. Possibly best on the whole album. Great lyrics again. Not a fan how fast it gets.3/5 Think about you:starts fast and is just cool. Bit soppy but we’ll forgive it for sounding cool. 3/5 Sweet child o mine: 5/5 Your crazy: a headbanger of a song a very cool song but sounds similar to the two before sweet child o mine. 3/5 Anything goes: a very cool song and just gets me pumped up!!!! 4/5 Rocket queen: another great song and a great way to end the album. I love the way it switched up slightly and the lyrics give an intimate touch. 4/5 Total:4.3/5

Great album

Classico.

Perfect running album.

Classic rock album Loaded with hits One of the best debuts Sound original and hungry

I remember when this came out and how quickly it grew on me. I tried to not like it because I was all about thrash metal back then, but I couldn't help it. For a debut album it sounded fresh edgy and completly rock and roll. They skyrocketed to fame soon after. Rightly so. Not sure they managed to produce anything as gritty as this afterwards though (except perhaps gnr lies)

Great, oldie but goldie, one of the best

Vet!!!

Yeah, this is class. Doesn't quite make a 5 because there's a bit of filler in there, but it'd have to be quite bad to stop an album with Welcome To The Jungle, Sweet Child O' Mine and Paradise City (my personal favourite) getting a 4. Their ballads are much more hit and miss - My Michelle works but a couple of the others don't really. That said, it's a long album at 53 minutes so does need some variety. Would probably have been better at a tight 40 mins with 3-4 tracks fewer, but even as is it's a comfortable 4.

Sweet child o mine is the best. Paradise city is iconic because it brings me back to simpler times as a kid. Can't Hardly Wait is the movie I think about. Nighttrain is good and first Guns N Roses album I listened to and Axle Rose's voice is simply unique and amazing.

Well that was bloody splendid. Loud, screamy, brash and with shredding guitar solos.

It has been ages since I've listened to this album and it is amazing how great it still sounds. One of the best debut albums from a band ever. Energetic, fun. Only one skip (I Think About You doesn't do it for me) on this classic. It's amazing Axl can even talk any more after his banshee hollering on this album. I love it but it has got to be awful for the vocal chords.

I have heard this album so many times. I had a roommate in college that would literally only play GnR and Smashing Pumpkins. I got real tired of both of them after a full year of it. But it's been a few years since I heard this all the way though. And it's really good. Some mega hits of course, amazing that so many big hits were on a debut album. It may be a while before I listen to it again, but I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Sweet child o mine es una de mis canciones favoritas del mundo. Todo este álbum me recordó mí adolescencia, un recuerdo agridulce jaja.

As good as this mostly loathsome genre can be. There are some great melodies and a few great tracks, but much that's meh, too and a lot of sameness (both in sound and content) in the harder-edge tracks. "Welcome to the Jungle" is a great opening track, setting the dark and gritty tone and "n. "Sweet Child" is a stone-cold classic, instantly recognizable and seriously addictive – to the extent that one wonders just how much the die-hard fans really hate it for being mirepresentative. The unit seems perhaps over-rehearsed and fused by an intense focus to get it right and be, you know, huge. Later records would show just how delicately balanced this was and probably revealed their true colors.

It’s appetite of destruction

The hits hit hard! The non-hits are cringy are times. Overall, quite enjoyable.

One or two of these at a time are awesome. Not a surprise that his voice gets grating all at once though. By the middle of My Michelle I had to take a break. 3 stars for good headbangin’ rock straight through, and an extra star for the first 45 perfect seconds of Sweet Child alone.

I never realized I hadn’t heard the end of a lot of the songs I knew from this album. “Welcome to the Jungle” is a definite nostalgia trip because that was our intro song for every home football game in high school.

One great album of a genre that I generally despise. There are some undisputed classics on this though, as well as some tasty deep cuts like Nightrain and It's so Easy. But this album has also its fair share of fillers, much more than what I remembered to be honest. The B-side is basically useless, save for the overplayed Sweet Child O' Mine and Rocket Queen. So yeah, it's a classic and it's by far the best Gn'R album, but its impact is greater than its content.

Yeah yeah, it's objectively a good album, but I just can't like it anymore. Please, can I just live the rest of my life without listening to Sweet Child O Mine one more time?

Kind of album you would scream in a karaoke. Remind me the movie rockstar with Mark Wahlberg. Would be nice to listen to it with friends and plan a drinking game. I always wanna laugh when axl rose sing high pitch.

This is one of the best hard rock album ever. I hate it.

The 80s were draped in excess, and no band really indulged quite the way that Guns N' Roses did. For fucks sake, there's a woman being fucked on the bridge of one of these songs ("Rocket Queen"). It can be a bit formulaic (aside from the ballads), but it's still just as adrenaline-surging as always. There's a reason Axl Rose is such a known figure, and why Slash has launched so many kids to check their local Guitar Center. Favorite tracks: "It's So Easy", "Sweet Child O' Mine", "My Michelle", "Nighttrain"

Fun album, high energy throughout.

Solid 80’s rock

I’ve never been a big Guns n Roses or classic rock fan but this album is real good. The standout tracks gotta be Sweet Child O Mine, Paradise City, Welcome to the Jungle, and Out ta Get Me. This is the first album of my list so I look forward to expanding my library and taste

7/10. Maybe even an 8, this had several solid inclusions, and none of the songs were unpleasant to listen to, excepting any sex noises in the background.

Hard to deny the talent of Axl Rose and the ability of the group to make hits. 8/10

Hair metal is corny and overrated imo. but I guess you can't deny the legacy of this band and this album.

Balls out straight up rock music. This is good!

Simply thrilling. So much better than most other Heavy Rock.

timeless, does anyone not like this?

Memories of school, jean jackets wreaking of palmals with ballpoint pen inscribed band logos... I didn't like the people back then that liked this music, but I liked the music.

Andy informed me that Slash was 22 when this album came out and now I am devastated.

Dominating in my late teens. Listening to the full album for the first time in many, many years it was interesting to note that a fair bit of it was not quite fully professional... The polish a tad patchy, some slight flubs. When it's on point it is quintessential American heavy rock. A bit meatheaded as most of its genre is but smarter and wittier than most.

I can’t believe this was 1987! So many tracks that carried through to this day and beyond.

This album has some of the best rock songs of all time like welcome to the jungle and sweet o child of mine, so I appreciate it for that.

Great stuff even if sweet child goes on a bit

Oh, how I used to love this album! So many old favourites! So many classics! But that's the catch, though. That past tense. I still think it's an excellent album, but I cannot deny I don't turn to it like I used to. Or as frequently as I used to.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard this one in full, it’s a good record and the classics slap hard, there is some “guitar jerkin” but I mean, it’s slash so it’s ok I guess. It is quite long, but any 80’s record without synths is a win

Un 4, pero porque tiene Sweet Child Of Mine.

Hard-core dude

4.0 - This record was another staple among the cool kids at my elementary school, which made it suspect in my eyes. But like it or not, GNR has been a mainstay in the soundtrack of my life. Wherever people are having fun, "Paradise City", "Sweet Child o' Mine" and "Welcome to the Jungle" are bound to be playing. As I finally give this album a fair listen, I actually think they've pulled off something heroic. They've wrested control of rock 'n' roll from the terrible and tired rock acts that were crowding the radio. I was expecting to hear big synthesizer fills, multi-layered vocal harmonics and typical cocaine-driven studio overproduction. Instead I hear a sound that is raw and stripped down. Axl Rose commands with a single, powerful voice. Slash comes through with blues-inspired licks, unfettered by studio fuckery. This is sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll set against the Sunset Strip. Pretty damn classic.

Really enjoyed this album

I'm a bit indifferent to GNR and their particular brand of cock rock, but most of their biggest (and I'd argue all of their best) tunes are on this album. The album tracks are more killer than filler, too - just about. A slightly overly long time, but a good time.
