Reviews (page 9 of 13)

4, good content

Slow, grimey, great tunes. Although that first track is a rough one once I figured out the lyrical content. Also the end of Can You Hear Me Knocking goes on a bit too long.

Moonlight Mile Pog

Quite a mix here which makes things interesting.

Sequencia fundamental do rock clássico.

This ones a bit better for me after listening to Aftermath. Wild Horses is prob my fav, Brown Sugar and Can't You Hear Me Knocking are also great.

In my top 5 Stones albums for sure. I just wish that radio stations would remember that there are songs other than Brown Sugar on here!

I am not a hug Stones fan, having said that...even if you remove the two tracks that have been burned into your existence, Brown Sugar and Wild Horses...You still have Can't You Hear Me Knocking (personal fave), Bitch, and Moonlight Mile. Impressive album.

More blues and southern rock sound than anticipated. One hears "The Rolling Stones" and it may bring to mind certain thoughts about what they sound like. This record is the reason for that: it contains so many of the sounds they're known for. And, to this listener, it had a few surprises. All in all a good listen.

Better than I remember. The opening chords echo across all time, even as the naughty lyrics have reached full taboo. It’s lurid and grimy – ”Can’t You Hear Me Knocking” might be the druggiest song ever. One is pleasantly surprised by the lesser-known and underrated “Sway” and “I Got the Blues” and “Moonlight Mile,” which maintain a very high standard between the hits. “Bitch” (all-time horn lick) and “Dead Flowers” (such countrified tongue-in-cheekiness) also stand out. One can make the case that "Brown Sugar" is actually one of the weaker cuts. “Wild Horses” is borderline mawkish, but Mick fully owns it. Some longeurs late, but awfully good overall, if not quite Beggars Banquet. 4.4 / 4

Liked it golden oldies

Pretty good album! Only knew one of the tracks and enjoyed the album overall

Rockin

A pretty solid album. It still has some things I could nitpick like when Can't You Hear Me Knockin' starts going off the rails. You Gotta Move is annoying. But the rest is all pretty entertaining. Wild Horses is definitely one of my all time favorites from the band.

Possibly my favourite Stones album; Wild Horses and Dead Flowers my favourite tracks with only the clichéd blues numbers letting it down.

I will start by saying that the only two Rolling Stones albums I really, really like, aren't most likely featured on the book (I haven't checked and I don't want to, as I prefer to keep the surprise factor going on) As this record begins, with Brown Sugar, I come to understand why it is so highly regarded. I expected myself to be annoyed though. Great job, 1001 Albums Generator! Still, I can't help but wonder if this is sort of a way of getting away with the Altamont affair.  The sax is a nice touch.  The country leanings of the two following tracks, Sway and Wild Horses, don't cut it for me, but I can hear that the latter is a really beautiful ballad, if excessively syrupy to my taste. By Can't You Hear Me Knocking I am convinced that the recording sounds wonderful and that it makes the whole thing infectious. There is a risk that I add it to my wishlist.  I also liked You Gotta Move, which reminds me of Chuck E. Weiss, although this one came decades before. The brass section on Bitch is another nice touch.  By I Got The Blues/Sister Morphine I got genuinely bored. I can't take that much Lynyrd Skynyrd. 5 for the recording, sound quality, and arrangements, 2 for the slide guitars and the such. Generous 3.5

Wild horses is great but a lot of the rest is a bit meh, did grow on me though

I mean it's the Rolling Stones doing what they do best; some good old fashioned rock and roll. This album has a few classics, Wild Horses, Can you Hear Me Knocking and Brown Sugar. It's just a good solid album at then end of the day!

4.5/5. Exile on Main > but still got some undeniable forever classics

Classic Stones

Great album, Can’t You Hear Me Knocking is phenomenal.

Almost the dictionary definition of 70s classic rock, isn't it?

I really thought that I would have more fun with this today. It doesn't help that I don't care for Wild Horses. I guess this was my first listen for this album...that also surprises me...

Some undeniably great music on this album. Too bad Brown Sugar is such a groove because the lyrics are pretty despicable. I'm glad to read that the band's removed it from their setlist. Wild Horses used to be among my least favorite Stones' songs but it's grown on me. Dead Flowers and Moonlight Mile are new loves.

Probably the best stones album I got so far. Much more consistent than a lot of their 60s discography.

Very good album, I can't choose a specific favorite but I found it very interesting that the original album cover came with an actual working zipper.

Dad music! Trucks, cassettes, and driving around on summer nights.

this was my first time listening to a rolling stones album in its entirety and it was a lot sicker than I expected. wild horses and bitch were definitely standout tracks for me. I prefer the more bluesy tracks on this album but the whole thing is quite good from start to finish.

initial thoughts: very good summer vibes, reminds me of being a kid and going on sunday drives towards the water with my family. dad has always been a stones fan fav off album: Can’t You Hear Me Knocking

Bit of an iconic album really

I like

ändå en go fyra

I ain’t finna cap this album is kinda cool. Can’t You Hear Me Knocking is a banger

Not as good as exile but loved the horn arrangements

A great album, not much else to say. Hadn’t heard any of the songs from this album, but it was a good listen. Favorite Songs: Brown Sugar, Wild Horses, Moonlight Mile

One of the Stones' deepest albums, both musically and emotionally.

Never been a big Stones fan, but even I have to admit this album is a classic. Such a variety of styles from blues to country to folk to pure straight ahead rock. They even sound a bit like Santana in the second half of Can't You Hear Me Knocking. 4 stars.

Much better than I expected.

the rolling stones are kind of cringe but this album has good songs

A classic. not a big fan of dad rock really, but i enjoyed this album nonetheless 8/10

Not their best overall, but with some of the best individual tunes

I love the Stones and this is album I have tried to like more than I actually do. I always end up wishing I was listening to one of their sixties albums with Brian Jones. I don't care much for Wild Horses and Brown Sugar is as bit overrated. I do really like Dead Flowers and Moonlight Mile is awesome. Plus Bitch totally rocks and the latin jam on Can you hear the music is cool. It's not a bad album just not as good as it's reputation suggests. 7/10 so I rounded up to 4 stars

Hard not to like, always find the Stones a mixed bag, but when they do it well they really do it well

At last a sixties /seventies album I can get behind. This is a classic. OK, it's a load of whiteboy blues covers with questionable accents, but they make them their own and really knock them out of the park.

Three hits and a lot of very solid music

Magnifikt rockalbum, magnifikt band.

Rating: 8.6/10 3 of the 10 songs really stood out to me. The rest were nice, but not something I would listen to on repeat (unlike the three below). Really liked "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" - a long rocky song, with a nice fat sax towards the latter half of it. In general, you can definitely tell this record was setting the foundations for a lot of future rock music. "I Got The Blues" has a really cool organ/piano solo in the middle. Super rocky and jivy, despite the slow tempo of the song. Despite the low amount of listens, "Sister Morphine" is a really great song, piano distantly playing in the background, and the "country"-esque guitar sound all the way through is nice. The guitar that plays in the beginning and throughout plays chords that constantly remind me of Stairway To Heaven (the part before the drums kick in).

Comunque molto godibile.

dolk i jeans. Roots, rock, folky. Wild Horses er klasse. Meget positivt overrasket. Mange facetter. Bundsolidt. Faktisk helt, helt vildt fedt.

Rock n Roll, blues, stemningsfuldt, karismatisk

Good one

Brown Sugar and Wild Horses are old favorites. Can't You Hear Me Knocking and Bitch are strong. Probably Sway is the only song on this one that I wish could be over soon. This feels like ideal Rolling Stones - it feels timeless in an old-fashioned way.

The inclusion of Wild Horses already made this three stars on its own, and just a solid album otherwise...

This album was much better than aftermath in my opinion. It was still a unique stones album from their earlier work and clearly showed that they wanted to experiment with blues, country, and continue working with psychedelic sounds. I was surprised by the Black influence in you gotta move as well. I can still hear this album in modern indie blues with songs like moonlight mile and wild horses has always been one of my favorite Rolling Stones songs. Fav songs: moonlight mile, wild horses, sister morphine, moonlight mile, you gotta move

Starts great with an awesome riff and groovy stuff with Brown Sugar. Then an awkward attempt of a ballad from which the only good thing is the guitar solos. Wild Horses is decent though the chorus gets old quick. CYHMK is very nice. In general, a chill album with bluesy stuff, bit unexpected as a pretty much an ignorant on the RS. Guitar is great all along. Solid 4+

Great first half, wasn’t massively engaged as it continued

Overall a very solid effort from a classic rock and roll band. Some of the messages do not carry over very well into these times.

Definitely an amazing rock and blues album. Brown Sugar and Wild Horses are clearly the staples, but Bitch, Sister Morphine and Dead Flowers are also fantastic tracks. A bit more bluesy than expected, but very enjoyable.

Pretty solid album. The only song I don't like is Sister Morphine. Can't You Hear Me Knocking is a jam.

some belters her.e. 4stars

This is not my favorite Rolling Stones, but I am very familiar with it. I think side 1 is the stronger of the two, but they’re both great.

I really liked this album, there were only a couple of songs I didn't like that much. Definitely the best album I've heard so far from this band! 4/5 stars

Brown Sugar: Overrated. Sway: Sick Wild Horses: IDK man

Classic, love the bluesy influences.

The Rolling Stones have always been better than The Beatles. This album is fantastic, and is always in heavy rotation on my turntable. I'd give it a full 5 stars if there weren't other Stones records that edge it out. 4.75*

Good chill soft rock album. Would listen to again

Big fan of Brown Sugar and Wild Horses, and the Otis Redding/R&B vibe of I Got The Blues. Chilled, easy listening early 70s rock, with some nice country/folk/blues influences coming through. Each song brought something different which was a pleasant surprise.

Had a good time with this. It had some great blues riffs and soulful vocals from Mc Jagger. Not as catchy as some of their other material, but you can groove it it well. Favorite Song: Can You Hear Me Knockin

Rock, soul, country rock and slow tunes. Pretty good!

Just really solid old hard rock. Probably the album already wasn't very original from the moment it was released, but it's just all-round solid without a bad track on it. The only stand-out track is Wild Horses - a true classic of a song.

Ja komm, Klassiker irgendwie, ne?

Still their best album by a distance for me - has got better since I last reviewed it (or I’ve developed better taste ;) - an easy four

Classic, kinda bluesy, 7/10

Such a great album with a nice country flavor. Really strong 4, maybe 5 one day.

4/5 nice album with good songs! Probably their best!

This album has a dusty swagger to it that is evocative of The Rolling Stones sound. It’s a refrain of Mick’s infidelities and apologies. “Can You Hear Me Knocking” has one of the greatest licks of all time and im not sure of it simply sounds like the 70s or if its presence in all 70s movies has made it the sound of the 70s. This album drags a bit in the middle, but is generally solid all the way through; it’s like a road trip through the history of American rock by the Brits. Pretty damn good, but not perfect. A-, so a 4.

Really good album, weirdly Mick's voice is what keeps this from a 5, i feel like he tries a little too hard on some of the deeper cuts to jazz them up.

never been a big stones fan, this is a undeniable 4 -5 though

Wild Horses (1971)

Inicio de los Stones.

Good rock album.

I love The Rolling Stones even if I cannot look at Mick Jagger :).

good one, very rocksy, never heard it full before

Sprøde melodier

Very good. 8-9/10 1. Can't You Hear Me Knocking 2. Wild Horses 3. Moonlight Mile

Really BLUESY - You gotta move Love the vibes on this album. At one point there was sad? The sound they are creating is so unique and bluesy! Lots of unexpected instruments - violin on the last song? Saxophone?

Good straight blues.

Vibey! Not my fav, but a nice calm moment.

classic stones

Classic rock and roll. Great stuff.

Album Side one starts off with a flourish with Brown Sugar. Wild Horses and Can't You Hear Me Knocking are great. Bitch sounds like it should be on Side one, as it sounds like two albums. One that is fast and rhythmic. The second seems thrown together. The great songs are historic, the rest is forgettable. 3.5

Audi hat mit doch zugesagt. Ich werde wohl absagen.

If you like their thing you can't really fault this run of Stones albums.

I really love the guitar on Moonlight Mile

Quality Stones album, add it to the faves.

Classic Rolling Stones, as classic as classic rock can get.

Pretty good. From the time before they became arena rock stuff.

It's the Rolling Stones! A classic entry of theirs. A bluesy funk infuses the album.

The rolling stones are the rolling stones yup nothing crazy

Great album, classic rock and roll, lots of great tracks

4/5. The back half gets a little plodding (I Got The Blues especially feels useless) but the high energy tracks are spectacular blues jams and the ballads are the most iconic and well put together of their catalogue

This is that classic rock dad rock straight to the veins with the nostalgia type of vibe. I feel like I've heard this record lifetimes before my own.

Amazing album art, amazing music. I don't know if I'd call it their prime, but definitely genre defining and ceiling breaking for them

Superb. Not quite a 5 star experience but there isn’t anything to crumble about.

Classic

I feel bad not giving this a 5 or anything, but it's a good, solid, blues rock record. A little slower in spots, and a few songs feel kind of formulaic for the Stones. Also, the less said about the lyrics to "Brown Sugar", the better. Still a killer song. Favorite tracks: "Brown Sugar", "Bitch", "Can't You Hear Me Knocking"

Better than expected yet somehow still a bit disappointing. 4 stars, though.

actually a 7

Pleasant, but nothing special

This was one of my grandads fav albums, so I have nostalgia for it from him playing it. But actually listening through it I find it just alright and not mind-blowing. Don't get me wrong, it's lively and fun with a good up-tempo beat throughout the album. But I definitely prefer the singles over the whole album. 'Brown Sugar' is always going to be one of those so gs that is tied to good memories for me, but this album will stick with me less so. Fav Track: Brown Sugar

Probably the Stones' peak IMO. It's good but I'm just not really too much of a fan

“Gold coast slave ship bound for cotton field. Sold in a market down in New Orleans.” What the fuck is that? Rolling Stones. First two lines to Brown Sugar... I bet you’ve heard that song 500 times, but you never knew, right? I can't help but hear the Dandy Warhols "Bohemian Like You" in here. I liked this more than expected. "Dead Flowers" & "Moonlight Mile" were standouts.

This was decent. Nothing really stands out to me, but I didn't mind it.

It's alr

First Rolling Stones album. Pretty fire sound. Definitely got some standouts but no bad songs. Peak dad rock.

It really interprets the era of rock and roll quite well. While not as high energy as other bands it really shows how the influence of drugs shaped the era.

After the past few days this was a breath of fresh air. It was a straight forward rock and roll album. I've never been the biggest Stones fan but this was enjoyable.

Rolling stonessssss

Fine I guess

better than the last one.

When I find myself liking a Rolling Stones song, it is likely off of this album

I feel ambivalent towards this, at times it is breath taking and I see light, like on Wild Horses (a classic that is an absolute gem) and Moonlight Mile a song I absolutely love upon discovery here. But I also think there is very little subtlety here, it's drugs drugs drugs and bitches and I'm bored. The sound of it is fun, but is it as novel and experimental ? I ain't sure. I respect it, but I don't think it's deserving of all the flowers we throw at it as an album.

Not a huge fan of the Stones, but I did enjoy this album. Favourite track: Dead Flowers

6/10… classic rock / british blues / *1971

It’s got the hits. Nice well rounded album. Fairly straightforward. 3.5/5.0

One of my least favorite Stones songs (Wild Horses, featuring Mick's annoying phony drawl) followed by one of my favorites, Can't You Hear Me Knockin', featuring one of the best guitar riffs in all rock music, along with the incredibly satisfying jazz breakdown/jam session at the end. Lots of drugs on this one, and Brown Sugar is simply disgusting - gotta try to ignore the lyrics. You Gotta Move is great, as is Bitch, but the Stones get kind of lazy now and then when they lie down in a druggy haze and toss off some country or blues tropes. It's really pretty sloppy, but the guitars are always great, as is the superb Charlie Watts.

Album entretenido, relajante y variado.

Ok album but that’s all. A hit straight down the middle. 3/5

Nothing remarkable

rolling country

When this album came out the bassist Bill Wyman was 35, his future wife (and step granddaughter....) wasn't yet 1. Anyway album wise, the only song I really already knew was Wild Horses. Some dodgy lyrics and I hate the cover, hate that it originally had a working zip even more. Musically I liked it but other than Wild Horses nothing really stood out to me. Favourite song: Wild Horses Least: Brown Sugar

My favorite Goo Goo Dolls song is their cover of "Bitch" with someone else singing.

kinda mid ngl

The Rolling Stones are fine but this list has confirmed for me that they don't deserve half the plaudits. It's bluesy American rock, like the other albums we've had. Enjoyed this a touch more than some previous albums looking at my other reviews, it was nice enough. This many albums on this list is ridiculous though, they haven't really developed much and I've learned nothing. 2.5.

We certainly have a lot of Stones albums on this list. Not sure they all need including - Let It Bleed is good, and the rest are absolutely passable. Brown Sugar and Wild Horses are the standouts. A funny group, they seem to change their sound very frequently, and I don't know how I feel about that. Slap bang middle, a classic album 500/1001.

So, let's get this out of the way first- Brown Sugar is perhaps one of the worst aging songs of all time. The tune sounds so good and the lyrics are... so bad. Thankfully the rest of the album does not have this problem, I find this having the highest rating of all Rolling Stones on the site interesting because it is like, my 3rd or 4th favorite album. The pure songwriting on display here still works so well and the Rolling Stones are a powerhouse of tunes and singing alike, but the entire thing is a touch too slow for me. It's like wading through molasses, half of this album feels like waking up after a bad hangover. The other half however has songs like "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" which carries the energy that make Rolling Stones so great. As subjective as it may be, I just think I prefer the more exciting Rolling Stones to the slower, introspective side.

I never knew "Brown Sugar" was a creepy song with racist overtones until I read a comic book given to me in Harvard Square by one of those Spartacist League people who was always handing stuff out. So much ambivalence about the Stones. I understand they are great, and despite never owning any of their albums, I certainly know and like many, many of their songs. And yet sometimes I wish I could pinch Mick Jagger really hard to get him to stop sounding so douchey. You can hear the smirk in his singing, somehow. I don't really know how to rate this record. I don't have a strong emotional resonance with any of these songs, and I think if I did, I would rate it higher. It feels wrong to give it a 3, and yet that's where I'm ending up. I don't think I would listen to this again, so I guess that says it all.

7/10 - Liked it more and more on every listen. I think the Spotify remastered version is mixed poorly? Everything just sounds a bit far away and muffled. This could easily be liked more if I heard a better version of it Fav Tracks: Brown Sugar, Bitch, Wild Horses Heard before? ---–- ❌ Saved a Song? ----- ✅ Saved Album? --–-- ✅ Will Listen Again? -- ✅ Album Cover -------We want TIGHTER mic

i was gonna make a snide comment along the lines of "i bet this would go hard if i was a 45 old man" but i actually kinda liked it.... maybe im the 45 year old man fave track: you gotta move

Not too bad, easy listen. 3/5

For most people, this is the Rolling Stones at their absolute peak. For me, this is their third straight album sounding exactly the same. When Sticky Fingers came up this morning, my first thought was "I could have sworn I got this one already". In reality, I had already gotten Beggars Banquet and Let it Bleed, but there's not really much difference, now is there? P.S. I don't care what people say, "Wild Horses" will always be Gram Parsons' song to me!

Can't go wrong with this album, but also it's pretty vanilla dad rock.

Good album. 4.0 stars. One of their better ones alongside Exile On Main Street. You have a few phenomenal tracks like Brown Sugar, Wild Horses and Can’t You Hear Me Knocking with its snazzy jazzy extra long jazz snazz coda. These tracks are so good that the rest of the album feels a bit snoozy and stale in comparison. Not too catchy or exciting. Too much snoozy plain folk blues country smush. Dead Flowers? Chuck ‘em out. Dont leave ‘em on the album. Bitch? Bit rude. No way to talk to a bitch. Ultimately could have done with a bit more Brown Sugar. I have Slippy Fingers so I’ve actually given this album 3 stars by mistake.

Another mid ass release from this overrated band. People be rating an album just by how popular it is smh Like every other classic Rolling Stones album , 2 good songs and a shit load of filler. Exept this one has 3 good song omg my favorite album of theirs.

Understandably popular with interesting instrumentals and vocal performances, suffers from not being personally interesting

When I listen to full Stones albums, I am often surprised again by the frequent appearance of unabashedly country tracks ("Dead Flowers" and "Wild Horses" here). I didn't care for "Wild Horses" when I was a kid, but now it just seems weirdly comforting. (I think "Dead Flowers" is the better song, though.) I really enjoy "Can You Hear Me Knockin'" and "Sister Morphine," too.

I knew Brown Sugar & Can’t You Hear Me Knocking. I also own and like Wild Horses. It was fine.

I didn't think I'd enjoy this album as much as I did! Rocking guitars and bluesy vibes (they have a relatively milder sound than I was expecting from such a famous rock band) mixed in with a darker sensual undercurrent. The Rolling Stones is another one of those canonised bands that I didn't have much interest digging into. I figured they're revered for good reason, but their audience of middle-aged dads is wayyy outta my ballpark. In my opinion some of the lyrics fall flat in their excessiveness and haven't aged the best. Sexual provocativeness is not the issue here, just the strange execution e.g., "Brown Sugar", which I'm not sure is supposed to be radical commentary or unintentional fetishisation that's trying to come off romantic. If it's the former, I don't think they pulled it off well or are the most appropriate people to deliver the message thoughtfully. This tackiness also extends to the album cover itself. I felt compelled to dock a point as a result, but I truly did like this one!

O k a y... 3.5

Was never sure about this album, prefer the earlier two and Exile is exceptional. Wild Horses was the only highlight

Knew brown sugar and recognised wild horses. Fine listening 3

Never realised Wild horses was The Rolling Stones! Some serious country rock and roll vibes. Is this what they always sound like? No idea! I no doubt will find out when their next ones pops up.

Another one of those classic albums/artists that when I listen to it, actually sounds quite different to my expectations. there was a section that was weirdly country towards the end, and I thought the whole thing was fine to listen to but less rocky for The Rock Band

Aaaaiiighttt

Okey i guess, mid

I'm not a big Stones fan, but this record is pretty good. Not so good that it makes me want to become a fan, though. It's definitely worthy of being on this list.

I liked Wild Horses and Moonlight Mile the most.

They take this occasion to combine their powers of making legendary singles and of making passable album-filler tracks in order to make this; the ultimate album of good-but-not-great music May their name live on in legend

i'm not quite following this cowboy theme we've got going on here. good, but other albums of theirs are better.

This album was good but life is short - listen to something that doesn't start with Brown Sugar

they all sound the same and you know that.

Can't you hear me knocking kinda sucks

No me mató, cumple.

Classics 3

(4/7) 1 or 2 good ones but the rest is fairly unremarkable. don't know where they found the saxophone

"I Got The Blues" - kæmpe fucking GOATED banger.

Favoritter: Wild horses I got the blues

Back again for the second day with The Stones, and this album was certainly more enjoyable than Aftermath. What Aftermath lacked in uniqueness, Sticky Fingers provided a range of different songs, that offered something more chill. Still not a banger of an album, but better than average. 3/5 Brown Sugar 7 Sway 4 Wild Horses 6 Can't You Hear Me Knocking 5 You Gotta Move 5 Bitch 6 I Got The Blues 3 Sister Morphine 4 Dead Flowers 5 Midnight Mile 6

I'd give it a 3.5, but it didn't go over the line for me to make this 4 stars. I liked it, to my surprise. I'd probably listen to it again if it came on. But I have found that I do not like that 70s guitar sound. I'm not sure if it's the recording (this isn't the only album or artist) but it sounds scratchy to me.

Had way more depth than I would have expected

Me mantengo una beatles girl

Just like a young girl should:

The album felt very generic and things weren't standing out in any way. It felt somehow watered down. I am not a Rolling Stones knower and don't know if this represents them in their fullest but can't say I am impressed with this listen.

leeendo

A good listen, with great performances and plenty of variety. The more country blues songs are not my style, but it’s still a fun album to listen to start to finish. Favorite song: Wild Horses

The Stones. They're pretty good. "Can't you hear me knocking" was a guitar hero fave of mine, "Brown Sugar" is a classic. I'll probably add both to the playlist. The rest is just alright.

some cool songs but overall not my vibe and some quite overstimulating Three made it into my favorites and one into my house playlist: 1. Can‘t you hear me knocking (2009) 2. Wild horses 3. Wild horses (Acoustic version)

Nice! I don't think I've ever listened to this beginning to end, though I have often had Wild Horses and Can't You Hear Me Knocking in rotation. Third entry in a row from the 1970s. Very bluesy. Can see why this is a classic, though I am partial to Let It Bleed. Wanted to give this a 4 but I think I'll reserve the 4 for other Stones records that I'm sure will pop up. This is definitely a 3.5 The Stones, for me, have some excellent songs but have never been my preferred brand of classic rock. My favorite discoveries here are Sister Morphine and Dead Flowers.

this one's alright, i mean it just sounds like music to me.

Yup that sure is classic rock. Honestly I never got the reverence for the Stones. They're fine! Good music to put on with the windows down on a hot summer day or to walk into a Five Guys to. Bet the live show was a blast. Wild Horses probably made some teens cry in 1971, some pretty emotional content under Jagger's voice which doesn't fit a ballad feel great. Can't You Hear Me Knocking is, admittedly, a sick tune. BUT it's been done better and heavier by later bands. Getting a little sick of these Brit rock acts doing their impotent versions of spirituals and blues standards, but You Gotta Move isn't the worst one I've heard so far. Bitch has a cool lick. Billy Preston on I Got the Blues was a treat, as it always is. The personnel is doing just fine, everything sounds good and tight enough and the writing is a little bland but the album is pretty groove and feel based so all good on that front. I wouldn't go tossing around genius, personally, but it's a 3.

Not to shabby, it's alright, you gotta move meme song. beatles are better

It’s good. But what’s really good is the top review this album has on here. A song by song 30 paragraph baby boomer psychosexual odyssey that gets more alien with every word. Honest to god you could publish that thing. You could make it a one man play

***An ok album

Some hits but isn’t music I would necessarily reach for.

Played it as background while I was fiddling w the other suggested sites from the channel where i found this site. as expected from someone who can’t multitask like myself, I didn’t hear a thing🙃 I’ll listen to it again w more intention

Good 7/5

Sticky Fingers sees The Rolling Stones incorporating Country Music into their sound this time around, which is not to suggest this is a country record, just a new color to the Stones palette. Of course this record is full of the classic brash blues rock they are famous for, “Brown Sugar”, “Can You Hear Me Knocking” are classics but there are gentler moments too, “Wild Horses”, “Sister Morphine” and maybe the biggest surprise “Moonlight Mile” a beautiful track with Asian inspired melodies. I hadn’t heard that track before this listen and was more than pleasantly surprised. This record is definitely worth a listen in full, lots of layers and surprises along the way. -TomB

Även Can you hear me knocking är riktigt bra.

Never really heard any Stones album - I like it. Sounds like everything complements other parts really well, from vocals to guitars to drums. I just don't feel like there's much to say about it - good formula done well.

wild horses deserves all the stars there are to give and moonlight mile sounds like from a twilight soundtrack

Didn't not like this, but didn't really like it either. I feel like you need to really be a Stones fan to appreciate them

Klausiau

Welp, another Rolling Stones album. I mean they are okay but only put out an album or two that I actually like. This is not one of them. Catchy stuff but not for me. I feel like Wild Horses is probably the best song on this album, the rest are pretty okay. Also Brown Sugar is a gross song.

- I like it so far, I’m on track 3. Nice western vibes even if it’s not that. :) Wild Horses is my favorite so far. - The instrumental half of Can’t You Hear Me Knocking was awesome - I Got The Blues is nice I liked that one - Based ass guitar playing on Sister Morphine - Unfortunate that the vocals on Dead Flower are kinda bad because the guitar is great. - Final song is pretty good

Not a giant Rolling Stones fan but wild horses is my favourite song. I enjoyed the twang that was included throughout the record.

This was a pleasant surprise; I’ve never been a big Rolling Stones fan and was expecting this to be pretty straightforward blues rock, but it was more diverse and interesting than I thought it’d be.

Good, but not something I need to listen to agan

Fine. Very Americana laid back (miller told me they’re British). Could grow on me. Dead flowers good and good songwriting I think only listened once.

ARI, ARI, ARI, ARI! Arrivederci!!!

All vibe - limited skill. Oddly, the drumming is maybe the best part which I never thought whereas the guitar work is infamous and it's sorta meh.

Not a huge rolling stone fan but I appreciate their sound and influence.

A lot more focused than Exiles, but still not consistently gripping. It's more tight and riff based, and the first half carries the whole project. Best song: Can't You Hear Me Knocking Worst song: I Got The Blues Cover check: Very tight jeans

Not at their best but good nonetheless

I’m not a Stones fan but they do have a few songs I really like, none of which are on this album unfortunately. Better luck next time as I’m sure we’ll be seeing them again.

I'd say peak Stones sleaze and swagger, really enjoyed it

good old classic rock

This was ok. Some of the songs were 3s, a few were 2s but I'm feeling generous so I've rounded up for the whole album

•standouts: brown sugar, i got the blues •honorable mentions: sway, bitch •favorite: i got the blues

probably more like a 3.5, i wasn't massive on beggars banquet when we rolled it, but i quite liked this one - has a bit more going on.

It was good liked the vibe

Oh, this album art. Not really anything that stood out to me.

I was expecting better, honestly

Ok not too bad. This came up after I already heard Exile so now I can see where they were kind of coming from. Some strong songs on here but also some weak ones. A nice variety of tunes here though. Kept things interesting but maybe a few too many mellow songs as they mostly just went in one ear and out the other. Only repeated listens will help me distinguish the weaker tracks but at this point I don’t know if I have the time in my life to do so. There’s still so many albums by them I need to get through. Not to mention all the other albums by other artists. I guess to me this does sound a bit dated and doesn’t seem to give me the urge to come back to it. But there are some good songs on here so who knows?

2 if it weren't for Sister Morphine

Was really looking forward to this. Obviously I know the Rolling Stones but think I have never really sat down and listened to a full album of theirs. It was fine, good blues inspired late 60s/early 70s rock, but have to admit I'm a bit bewildered by the awe with which they are held based on this album anyway. 3 out of 5 stars.

I'm just not the biggest Rolling Stones fan, but this was alright.

It's alright. It's the kinda music your dad listens to from the garage while drinking a beer in the driveway with your weird uncle. It's just kinda on, and everyone sings the wild horses part way too loud. At worst it's just alright, and at best it's also just alright. I guess they have a magazine for a reason though. The guitar is pretty good.

Generic sounding rolling stones album

Solid record. Wild Horses really makes it for me.

A few good songs, a couple that didn't age well. While I enjoyed several of the songs, it also wasn't an album that I really liked all of the songs. So while there were some good bits there were enough meh bits that I definitely wouldn't want to own this nor have it on a regular play

It’s a fine album. But I just don’t understand how this is considered one of the greatest albums of all time and I don’t understand how people say Stones made better music than the Beatles. The middle of this album is the best for me and I obviously love the hits, Wild Horses and Can’t You Hear Me Knocking to be specific. Although I feel Can’t You Hear Me Knocking would be even better if it wasn’t as long of a track. And man oh man, I’m not even going to talk about Brown Sugar in depth even though I should. Just gonna say get that song outta here!! I don’t care how many ways they try to spin that song into not being lyrically cringe or inappropriate…it is.

I will say, off the rip, I love the guitar on this album. When it comes to the other content of the tracks, I just felt it was okay. It's a perfectly fine listen. Brown Sugar is great, Wild Horses is a classic (not my taste, really, but I'll still sing along a little), and I fell in love with the bass on Sister Morphine. Everything else sits in a "pretty good, may listen to it again or may not" category. I would comfortably put this at a 3.5, but I have to round down on this one since I did have to break my listen in half. A couple tracks really bored me.

Has a couple standouts. Dig Dead flowers and their country nods. I'm medium

Cant you here me knocking wen tema.

This is a tricky (or sticky, wink wink nudge nudge) album to rate. You've got your hits, and you've got your Blues songs that the British invasion bands loved. The Stones never really hit me in a way that I super enjoyed. I like some of their songs, and some of the songs on this album, but something about it just kind of ran it's course. Like that B-Side is a true B-Side of an album.

Despite Sticky Fingers not having either of the two great Stones songs (Paint it Black and Gimmie Shelter) on it, I was enjoying it more than the previous two stones albums I listened to. That is, until Sister Morphine, with it's shitty, faux Americanism, that is typical of so many Rolling Stones songs. From there the album went downhill fast. This just about scrapes a three from me.

Is “Brown Sugar” meant to be a socially conscious reflection on the slave trade and racial injustice? Because it sounds like Mick Jagger inhabits that creepy character a little too well.
The answer may be on the next track, “Sway,” in which he says that “the demon life has got me its sway.” “Wild Horses” is next. If you can make it through that song, you’re a true fan. Then comes “Can’t You Hear Me Knockin’” which is the finest song on the album. It sounds like the Stones are channeling either Traffic or latter-day Doors here, as the song transitions to its long instrumental section. “You Gotta Move” fills space before “Bitch,” which may just be as misogynistic as “Brown Sugar.” Well, enough about this album. Time for the essential post-Stones deep clean, followed by a musical palette cleanse. Still, I'll give 3/5 for several great riffs and for "Knockin."

What can I say? It's the Rolling Stones... which means you'll get a few solid tracks, but before you know it, you feel like you've been dragged through the gutter a bit. For all its famous tracks, I think "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" is hands down their best on the album.

One of those Stones albums I thought I'd heard before, but a lot was unfamiliar. Some good hits, some less interesting stuff too. Didn't leave a massively lasting impression, but still pretty strong.

Has a good sound, but it had a few I was not really feeling. Songs like Wild Horses and Sister Morphine I thought were really good but the album was not as strong as these two

a lot of songs viral on tiktok, never knew where they came from until now

Im not mad at their version of you gotta move. The last 4 songs are the best ones on the album

Honestly not nearly as in love with this album as I thought I would be. Definitely some great blues rock ballads on here, but also some definite misses that are gonna keep me from spinning this that often. Favorite Tracks: "Wild Horses", "Can't You Hear Me Knocking", "Sister Morphine" Least Favorite Track: "I Got the Blues" High 3.

Saved? ✅ Would listen again? 🤔 Would recommend to anyone? ✅ Would buy on Vinyl?✅

First time listening to a Stones album and I really don’t see what all the fuss is about. It’s just middle of the road for me. Finding out this record is considered to essentially be their best just leaves an even more stale taste in my mouth since there’s a fat chance I’ll seriously enjoy any of their albums then.

Not a fan of Jagger's vocal stylings, and the white boy blues doesn't do it for me, but there are 3 or 4 classics on this which elevates it above mediocrity. Sister Morphine and You Gotta Move are highlights

- rollarit keikkuu ihan siinä rajoilla että miten ajan hammas on heidän tuotantoaan kohdellut - tälläkin levyllä on monia hyvin kyseenalaisia tekstejä, mutta sitten taas toiset biisit ovat kyllä todellisia klassikoita, hienoja melodioita - onkohan tämä albumitaide inspiroinut erästäkin brucea?

Rock de pai divorciado

386/1089 - This is the third album I got from them, seriously in what way are they on the same level as the Beatles as rivals? From what I've heard, they have like two good songs (Paint it Black, Sympathy for the Devil) and the rest is filler. At least they made Satisfaction so Devo could make their version which is around 3000x cooler. This went in one ear and out the other (except for Can't You Hear Me Knocking).

Nope.. still don't care for The Rolling Stones. The answer to the eternal question of "Beatles or Stones?" will always be "Led Zeppelin" for me.

i actually very much enjoyed this album. some great tunes and awesome guitar riffs, wild horses is the standout - however there's a cover of that song i like more than the OG version. still a great song. just an overall good time and a solid album. 7/10

Definitely some great songs on here and I know many people think this great, but to me some of the stuff is filler. Or maybe better to say I can take it or leave it.

p231. 1971. 3.5 stars. Possibly the only Stones record you need. Some great songs here, and Mick Taylor is a fine guitarist. Points deducted for Jagger's faux American blues accent, it gets fucking annoying after a while, especially when you know he's from Dartford.

Full on blues album. Which is a strange for a band formed in London. All of the elements are there twanging guitar, saxophone, slow drums and Mick Jagger's wailing vocals. Two huge hits on this album Brown Sugar and Wild Horses. Both of which I feel haven't been played to death and I was happy to hear again. As with all blues songs, the world is cruel and times are tough. But I cant help but think that life might be a bit better for Mick if he just cut down on the Coke and Smack. As that seems to be the subject of most of his troubles. Going by majority of the songs on his album. (2.750)

Moody Bluesy rocky - almost a Great name for a band that… Debauched, Risky, innovative… they wish . But still an actual good album , before they forgot how to make an entire album. More Eaton than East end; no mater how much they swagger … a solid album but nothing more from the posh boys of rock.

This is my second stones album in this project. The first one was earlier, and I found it more raw and experimental. This one felt more cohesive from a musical and performance perspective, but also more musically boring. It was, largely speaking, variations on familiar rock and blues cliche's. I will admit that I like the performances: the vocals are great, the guitar is great (though I don't love the way the solo's are mixed: very panned and echo-y), but most songs were very long, hammering the same familiar musical idea without evolving, and therefore, kind of boring.

Hard to know how to rate this album... The Stones are showing off real talent and skill here, and some of the songs are pretty solid. The guitars are working some great interplay, the drums are steady as anything and Mick Jagger is performing like a true rock 'n roll frontman... but even after a second listen the album as a whole is pretty forgettable. There's a couple of songs that are memorable enough - "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" is distinctive, and for some completely inexplicable, potentially unhinged reason "Brown Sugar" sounds like ABBA's "Does Your Mother Know" to me. Yes, I know. Bizarre. The rest of the album I couldn't hum a second of. For an album that's good on paper but did very little for me, and whose inclusion on this list is probably reasonable but only probably, I give the most neutral of ratings: the not-so-coveted-but-entirely-acceptable 3/5.

Divorced dad core.

I thought I was going to enjoy this album much more than I did. The only thing that truly stuck out to me was the cover art (which also sent me down a rabbit hole on Wikipedia). I couldn't name a song by TRS before this, and honestly, after a couple weeks I'm probably also gonna forget these songs. It's well performed, great instrumentals and really great vocals. The quality of the music is good. Something is just missing for me. It started to run together and bore me after a while and I really wasn't expecting that. I enjoyed how the album closed on a slower note. Is this an album I'm going to revisit? I really don't think so. It is bad? No. It's just not for me.

Better than the early stuff we listened to a while back, but still can't say I'm a big Stones fan.

This album has one or two gems. But I am not one to just throw on a Rolling Stones record. Give me a greatest hits for them, and I will probably give it 5 stars. They were hit makers for sure, but as for albums ... well ...

Definitely a good vibe, just not something I’ll find myself coming back to. Probably because it’s not my typically taste

No arguing from me that Sticky Fingers is a canonical record. But listening to it, I had the wonder about the following: if this is considered one of the best rock records of all time, does this explain why--with quite a few notable exceptions--why most rock music is so mid?

I like the idea of blues rock more than I like blues rock. I'd rather just listen to Zeppelin

Pretty solid. Wild horses and dead flowers was probably my favourites there was one or two songs i didn't like but other than that i really liked it.

Sticky Fingers feels pretty weak compared to the Stones’ other big albums. There’s a few good songs but all the deep cuts are pretty forgettable

Familiar, but not so special anymore in my opinion. The most special thing was that there was a real zipper on the cover that actually opened.

Has Wild Horses on it. It’s good background I guess, but I don’t really get the hype for The Rolling Stones.
