Reviews (page 11 of 13)
Classic Rock of the type I don’t typically love, but there were some surprises here and it’s a decent album. The little bits of sax in “Brown Sugar” are nice and the lengthy guitar solos throughout are appreciated. Mick Jagger is seriously a bad singer and is absolutely brutal on “Dead Flowers”. Standout track is “Wild Horses”.
A couple good songs, but mostly forgettable stuff. Very sleazy sound.
Not a fan of The Rolling Stones so I didn't bother listening to this.
It was fine, made me tap my foot a few times.
...
My review dissapeared, I am sad :(. so i am not going to type anything anymore, i wrote a lot :( 3/5, 2 jojo referances btw
Not a Stones fan. Only song I knew was Brown Sugar which has some troubling lyrics ("Hear him whip the women, just around midnight" is this a song about Phil Spector? Sean Combs was only 2 when this came out so it probably isn't about him). The rest is alright but nothing more. So won't be revisiting this.
I've always had trouble understanding why the Rolling Stones have such a legendary status. Except for a few of their big hits, they sound completely mediocre to me. Wild Horses and Dead Flowers are great songs. The rest just sounds like filler. I've never listened too closely to the lyrics of Brown Sugar before, but now that I did holy shit...
It started out with some promising songs, but then corrected to the Rolling Stone Mean.
Yeah I dig.
6/10 - Rolling Stones kinda boring. I really did not like you gotta move. I’ve heard wild horses before and it’s fine. Moonlight mile was probably my favorite song even thought it started pretty slow.
Absolutely mid
it took me a bit to get over the lyrics of Brown Sugar, definitely a little on the problematic side. Yesterday I also learned that Wild Horses is a Rolling Stones song, I thought it was CSNY for some reason. I enjoyed Dead Flowers a lot, definitely felt the influence it had over Social Distortions work. Overall, I enjoyed it, but felt that there were too many solos that insisted upon themselves.
I've never gave The Rolling Stones a full album listen before, and I gotta say, I enjoyed this! I loved the guitar work. I 100% see their appeal and why they're given their acclaim. Some of the songs were meh, for example, You Gotta Move and honestly the rest of the album after that point. The album started off with great energy and after this point, it dies down. I can understand a song or two and spreading out the high energy songs, but it was just one after the other after the other and really brought down my overall appeal of the album. Overall though, better than I thought it was going to be
a good album, it's the Stones.
Preferred first half over second half
Très bon album ! Je n'ai pas beaucoup écouté les Stones, et ça me fait plaisir d'avoir pu écouter et apprécier un de leurs album. Wild Horses, Moonlight Mile, c'est vraiment pas mal.
This really was a quite good album.
Didn't enjoy this as much as some of their other albums, but it was still decent.
I liked Brown Sugar but the next few songs bored me and I stopped listening. I had planned on coming back and finishing it but the songs I did hear just weren’t good enough to give me the motivation to finish it. Would be a 2 but +1 for Brown Sugar and benefit of the doubt.
another Rolling Stones record and another meh review, it's not great but it's not awful, nothing to get excited about
Definitely not their best, not bad tho.
I found some of this album to be charming, and then felt a bit indifferent towards it at times. I really liked Sister Morphine.
Brown Sugar) i z amerykańskiej fascynacji motywem drogi (np. Moonlight Mile). Instrumental z "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" bardzo spoko. "Sister Morphine" zapadło mi w pamięć. Mimo to raczej nie będę tęsknił za tym albumem, także spokojne, równe 3.
This is my first time listening to a Rolling Stones album. They're a lot more "Rock 'n' Roll" than the Beatles are, despite being part of that same "British Invasion" time period. A lot of the sound on this albums feels played out and same-old, although it is good. It's not their fault that they influenced so many bands, but it does make it hard for me to show up to their album 'fresh'. "Bitch" is the first song I really like. I love the horns. The album started a lot more rock focused but turned into too many slow and a little boring songs. This didn't really do it for me. 6/10
Yeah, it's mid. There's not really much to say about this that hasn't been said.
I would have loved all of the songs on the deluxe album if I was 17 again
Crazy how much the opening riff in 'Brown Sugar' just sounds like a chopped up 'Start me up' riff, almost feels similar close to me. Overall I think this was a decent record with some songs that were better, and some songs that were not as good perhaps. I don't feel like I'm swaying in any direction, it's pretty much dead in the middle for me. Pretty much "meats and potatoes" rock I would say. 'Wild Horses' was probably my favourite track.
As with previous albums by "The stones" i find their albums kind of lacking. They have some really good songs, on this one "Wild Horses" is a clear 5 star song. But you can always cherry pick a few songs and leave the rest. Most songs are just very standard rhythm and blues rock. I realized I've never really listened to the lyrics of "Brown Sugar" but um yeah that first verse is way, way, worse than I could imagine. Yikes. The riffs is still really good though. Towards the tail-end the ballads were actually quite decent and a nice change of pace. More 3 stars for rolling stones, if only they could merge 2 albums in to one it would warrant a 4 or even 5 star album.
Not bad music but it didn’t do much for me.
The first half of the album (I guess the A side of the LP) is very good; "Can't You Hear Me Knocking?" 🤯 But the second half is much more bland, definitely OK songs, but nothing very interesting.
Fun music but I've never been a fan.
Boring album with one good track. Most songs made with basics music terms of 60s. Albums sounds like it's released in 60s? but not in 1971. 5/10
Before listening to this album, I had never considered myself a Stones fan ... and I still don't. I don't hate any of their music and I don't love any of it. This album has a few nice moments, but the issue is that Mick Jagger has no singing ability at all. It's honestly extremely impressive how successful he has been in spite of that.
Brown Sugar - 4/5 Sway - 3/5 Wild horses - 5/5 Can't You Hear Me Knocking - 4/5 class but slowed down a bit by 4 minute instrumental You Gotta Move - 3/5 Bitch - 2/5 I Got the Blues - 3/5 Sister Morphine - 3/5 Dead Flowers - 2/5 Moonlight Miles - 3/5
3.5
It opens with the poorly aged Brown Sugar. Sigh, we can get our exoticism and creeping on young girls out of the way right off the bat. Sway had good sound but damn, Mick has an awful voice. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. It also doesn’t work in Wild Horses. I have never liked this song. You Got to Move was actually painful to listen to. Can’t Hear Me Knocking was mid but not terrible. I was a little worried when I saw the track name for Bitch, but it was actually fun. I’ve Got the Blues was a pleasant surprise, too. I think this track is really helped by strong instrumentals. Sister Morphine, Dead Flowers were ok. Moonlight Mile finished the album strong. The second half of this album definitely improves. This was much better than the other Stones album I’ve gotten on this list. I’ll give it a 3.
It's the stones, sounds like the stones.
Stony classics.
Brown Sugar is gross, the rest is fine I guess. Would prefer to listen to blues. Not bad, not great.
Not for me
Never really been a big fan of the Stones. Undecided on how to score this. Half the songs are a four but the rest are ones and twos.
Enjoyed. Bluesy
Heard it about three times in the past four year— still mostly rubbish in my opinion. 1001Albums should've included "Between The Buttons" instead (I I know it sounds like an attempt to emulate The Kinks, but it actually demonstrates how poor The Stones were in their own genre.)
Listened Before? N Another classic rock... well... classic. This one was very good from beginning to end. Not much else to say. Added to Library: N Songs added to playlist: Can't You Hear Me Knocking
Um Yeah alright blues rock, beatles better
Decent but will not revisit.
Like all Stones albums, this has a couple of really great rockers (Brown Sugar, Dead Flowers) and a nice ballad (Wild Horses), while the rest is horrible blues and country. This one is the best out of the 3 albums I’ve listened to yet, though.
Loved it
It's the Rolling stones what do you expect? Personally not this! I had been told that they started out life as a blues band but this was not really bourn out by their famous tracks, and I had never been inspired enough to listen to a whole album before. I was pleasantly surprised by how bluesy they were and I enjoyed it. But was I inspired enough to say I'd buy it, no I wasn't. Being the Stones I almost feel I have to give it a 4, but does it really deserve one, no it doesn't but it is worth a 3.
The most constistant Stones album so far on this list. So far the only one I enjoyed without wanting to skip tracks. 'Brown Sugar' has always been a song which I enjoy and used to enjoy when my Dad played it too.
Another album where the only available streaming version is an unpopular remaster. All tracks except Brown Sugar are labeled (2009 Mix) so we're listening to a remixed version, different from what put it on this list. Bah!
It's fine. I've never been super into the Rolling Stones. Brown Sugar has aged badly and most of the other songs were not that memorable but it wasn't a bad listen. 6/10
Not the biggest fan 3/5
Some decent songs but didn’t hook me
"Sticky Fingers" by The Rolling Stones delivers great guitar work and sweeping rhythms that capture the band's iconic sound. While musically impressive, with tracks like "Brown Sugar" and "Wild Horses" showcasing their blend of rock and blues, the lyrics often veer into strange territory, which may alienate some listeners. Despite its historical significance in rock music, it’s not entirely my cup of tea, leaving me with a mixed impression. I’d give it a solid 3/5 for the musical elements, though the lyrical content falls short for me.
Kinda just Rolling Stones to me
i cannot believe dead flowers is a stones song. townes did it better
It's got some hits, and for good reason. But they're clearly not an album band. This one works better than most Stones albums, but I do get the distinct feeling of when they wrote a "song" and when they wrote an "album filler." I don't know how to judge projects like this, but the hits are good, so I guess a three?
A well-known Stones album. However, in my opinion it is not particularly successful. It seems kind of irrelevant to me. The story behind the cover is the most interesting thing about it. 3/5
it's the stones, rocks for sure
very interesting topic to start an album off with i rate the choice of making almost 5 minutes of your 7 minute song purely an instrumental found it kinda hard to enjoy some of the slower songs compared to the faster ones though (based on the spotify plays that seems to be a more popular opinion though) - but i enjoyed moonlight mile so maybe it was just the specific songs i didnt enjoy happened to be slow as a jojo's bizarre adventure fan I am disappointed
72% Best: Can't You Hear Me Knocking; Bitch Must-Hear? Slightly overrated imo, so no
Probably there best album. Very enjoyable
Best overall Stones album I’ve gotten so far, yet still confirms my opinion that they are a singles band. Only the hits are good.
Brown Sugar and Can't You Hear Me Knocking are classics. Hadn't heard Wild Horses by them, only a cover (but I didn't realize it was a cover). Really liked the song! Overall a little better than I was anticipating since I'm not a huge Stones fan.
Two Rolling Stones in a row. Nothing on Let It Bleed in my eyes. Wild Horses is an absolute classic though.
Old classic
classic stones, easy listening
started off on a high note with the guitar riff. I love the usage of playing music through one headphone rhen slowly adding a couple notes through the other headphone.
A solid album - worth a listen
A pretty decent record. The Stones can get a bit cheesy for me, but this one has a bit more sincerity that I think gives it more power. I love Drive-by Truckers and I never realized how much they were influenced by the Stones. Sway could straight up be a DBT song. They still lose me on some of the straightforward boring blues rock, but overall I enjoyed it.
some songs are really good like wild horses
Favorite track: Sister Morphine
I liked a few of the songs. The rest were extremely medium
This is an album of 2 parts. The first 5 songs are fantastic. Great variation, and really the Stones at some of their best. But man the second half of this album is snoozy. Shame it couldn't have just been a slightly long EP.
I hate the name of this album but I enjoy it otherwise
Block 15 Sticky Fingers is the best beer
3☆/5 08.07.2024
Not my favorite from the Stones, but still pretty good
This album didn’t wow me but has some great moments for sure. The hits are absolutely the strongest tunes, while the rest don’t do much for me.
Beatles > Stones. I think there is one good song here. It's not fun to listen too for me.
Yet another Rolling Stones. This one's actually pretty good!
not a huge stones fan but ok album i guess
Some great songs to give it a strong 3...but not quite enough overall for me to give it a 4.
This album cover is eye rolls. I’ve recently decided Andy Warhol was a hack. Anyhoo, love the Billy Preston contribution to this. I don’t love the songs with lengthy improvisations, though. And songs like “You Gotta Move” make me scratch my head. It smacks of appropriation today, though that wasn’t on the radar in 1971. I prefer a song like “I Got the Blues” that is certainly very bluesy, but they’ve put a distinctly Stones spin on it. “Dead Flowers” is my fave song on this album. I like them best when the blues influence manifests as honky tonk. 3.8
The Rolling Stones. At this point, you either like them or you don't. Or you like different periods of their career over others. Either way, this is a Stones album you will likely enjoy if you enjoy The Stones.
Cool! Starting to get slight 1001 albums burnout I fear cuz this didn’t wow me but oh well!
I knew a couple songs on here, good album but wouldn’t listen to all regularly
How young black girls taste has not aged well. Indulgent bluesy ramblings.
Pretty good, hits
I'm pretty sure I can recycle what I said for Exile: good blues album from a bunch of white guy.
Okay
Once again, I didn’t dislike any of what I was listening to but it wasn’t the sort of stuff I ACHE to listen to again and again with all my attention. It’s good for the background. Cmon gimme another album like the first one I got!!
The Beatles have broken up and now it’s the stones time to shine. And they stick to their honkeytonk guns. It’s impressive how many British rock bands at this time wanted the American sound. Please check out Susan Boyles version of Wild Horses from this album. She actually made a better song out of it
A little too country-western influenced for my tastes, but its a pretty typical Stones album. It's okay.
3.5 I like the less known songs. Again very varied
meh, didn't really leave a lasting impact
Decent stones album
I’ve always viewed the Stones as predominantly a singles band and I’m afraid Sticky Fingers has done little to challenge that preconception. Brown Sugar is great and I really enjoyed Midnight Mile but there was a lot in the middle that didn’t stand out in two plays through. Can you Hear Me Knocking has good moments but is just too long.
Brown Sugar is great. Can't You Hear Me Knocking has some nice raw guitar. Wild Horses is popular but I don't love it.
This is fine. I can't seem to connect with the Stones the way some people do. I wasn't mad about having to listen to the whole album, but I probably won't come back to this much, if ever. Wild horses is a good song though
Ok, lets go. its ok, three stars of five, I wouldn't listen to it again sincerely.
Some great songs to give it a strong 3...but not quite enough overall for me to give it a 4.
Front half 👍👍 Back half 👎👎👍👎
I’ve always loved White Horses. I can see their talent but the music is just sometimes a tad on the messy side taking away some of the enjoyability.
Skipped “Brown Sugar” halfway through, just couldn’t handle the lyrics. The Stones are incredibly cool but that song is unfortunately super offensive. I grew up hearing it on the radio and even featured in commercials. Weird. Ok, maybe I’m not rock and roll enough but my favorite track on the album was “Moonlight Mile.” The piano and acoustic guitar just felt perfectly rustic like a comfortable home with a gentle breeze.
The older I get the more overrated the Rolling Stones seem to get. They're not bad, but they don't do much for me. 2.5
3-4 Aber brown sugar is killer
I had very little opinions about this.
Kinda country/bluesy. Doesn't sound dissimilar from other Rolling Stoneses of the time to me.
In the age old question of Beatles or Stones I would also say Zeppelin. This is probably my favourite Rolling Stones album but it’s just good not great
standard
Ret hyggeligt. Stadig ret hill billy.. Dog med et glimt i øjnet. Der går næsten over i ren ZZ Top. Hittet er genialt.
Un blues bastante genérico, complicado hacer la diferenciación entre canciones tbh
legend
145 albums in and i finally find another album by the band that began my 1001 albums journey, The Rolling Stones, And they are back with Sticky Fingers. It actually is a pretty good album and i think its better than Let It Bleed. Unlike Let It Bleed which went further towards it's country elements, This one goes more towards rock with some of the country elements still intact which is a style i prefer. This album also had some more slower songs which worked well as breaks from the harder stuff. There are songs which i do think are not composed the greatest but this album still managed to be a pretty good album. Best Song: Bitch Worst Song: You Gotta Move
I've always felt like the Stones are one of the most overrated bands of all time. I love a few of their songs but for me, a greatest hits record would be enough. That said, Keith Richards and Charlie Watts are both among the best at what they do. For this record, there are some bangers on here - Brown Sugar (if you don't listen to the lyrics at least) and Can't You Hear Me Knocking are great. I've never liked Wild Horses. The rest of the album is sort of unremarkable to me. I think this is just one of the albums that you're supposed to like from a band that you're supposed to like. There's nothing wrong with this record, really, it's just sort of beige. 2.5/5 rounded up to 3.
Man, there are too many Stones albums on this list. This is fine, there are some good songs, but still just too much bluesy bar bad stuff shining through. Not for me.
The album has some great guitars and an envolving rhythm, but nothing especial to be my favorite. However, I would listen to in a lot of situations, it's very good. My favorite songs were Brown Sugar and I Got The Blues.
Like the blues influences and the songwriting is great, but the fake southern accent lost this album a star unfortunately.
Wild horses❣️
If Mick had joined the 27 club this would be a 4
Not their best but a couple of bangers
Aye decent but bored of the stones
Nice rock album
The fact that I thought “Brown Sugar” was “Start Me Up” tells you all you need to know about the Stones’ songwriting abilities. In all seriousness, though, I actually like this. It’s heavier and in your face, but there’s a lot of dynamics. The lead licks kick in the door and the rhythm section is tight as hell. Jagger can really command a track, with badass verses and sweet chorus melodies. It’s not like this made me a Stones fan or anything, but there’s a good energy here that feels much more unique than Beggar’s Bargain. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still too much pastiche for me, but at least they sound like a unique band, and that goes a long way.
A couple of great tracks, but the rest isn’t my bag
Classic stones album. Favourites: Brown sugar, wild horses, can’t you hear me knocking, dead flowers, moonlight mile
white horses ist gut ansonsten nicht mein ding
Les Rolling Stones s’approprient un répertoire et un imaginaire américains, avec la fougue qui la caractérise, mais en gardant un certain sens de la mesure
Strolling Bones more like. Mid album. I think the band clearly have a lot of energy and vigour - I can imagine they'd be absolutely sick live, but their music has rarely done anything for me. The bangers always feel like they need more punch, and the ballads always feel too meandering. Best Song: I Got The Blues Worst Song: Moonlight Mile Score: 6/10
I dislike Jagger so much but then Wild Horses...
It’s tempting to give the Stones a pass here. It’s my first album of their’s for this project (I’ve heard many others before), it’s got songs on it I happen to really like, and it’s the Stones. But “Brown Sugar” is abysmally racist and sexist and cannot and should not be excused or given a pass. So that’s a star off my final rating for that alone. Everything I say hereafter will be said with the understanding that “Brown Sugar” needs to not exist and what is written next ignores this song entirely. Moving on. This is, unsurprisingly, a really fun album. This is just before one of my favorite Stones albums “Exile on Main Street” and you can hear the origins of that sound here. If that album is a party, this one is the pregame. It’s got everything. Wonderful, meaningful ballads like “Wild Horses” (which if you know its origin/context is even more heartbreaking), romps like “Bitch,” and straight up blues like “You Gotta Move.” There’s something for everyone here. And it’s awesome. The introduction of horns on this album is something to be celebrated, especially by someone who can never, ever turn down a horn solo in a rock song. Jagger and Richards are on point as songwriters here, and the band came to play. This is just a fun, grooving album that I’d listen to again and again. Except that first track…3 stars (could’ve been 4 but, well, like I said above…)
Replace Jagger's voice with a good ol Southern boy and you'd have a pretty good rock country album. Never been a big fan of the Stones, but the more I hear of their earlier stuff, I would swear they are more country than rock. Anyway, there's quite a few good songs off this album. The opener, while wildly inappropriate, is a great tune. Same for Wild Horses, Can't You Hear Me Knocking and Bitch. A couple of the country songs, I got The Blues and Moonlight Mile were the surprise likes for me. This album was a decent blend of rock and country that I thought was pretty good.. Just not the biggest fan of the band and Jagger's voice. I think Charlie Starr would make this album better, but here we are. 3
3 So, I’ve gotta start this off by saying - one of the worst album covers of all-time. Who wants to be staring at a dude’s bulge while listening to the Stones? I don’t care that it’s Andy Warhol-inspired, the cover art alone has always deterred me from listening to this thing. I know it’s not the first phallic album cover he had a hand in, but at least The Velvet Underground’s was more subtle. And if that’s not bad enough, the opening track Brown Sugar - wtf. I have heard the song before and have always found it to be questionable at face value just knowing it describes a black woman, but I didn’t realize until now it describes a young, enslaved black woman specifically. “Brown sugar, how come you taste so good? Uh huh/Brown sugar, just like a young girl should, uh huh, oh/Ah, got me craving the, the brown sugar/Just like a black girl should, yeah” How the hell did this get made? I guess Mick Jagger has gone on to disown the track, but I’m still surprised there hasn’t been more negative attention surrounding it, especially given that it was a pretty big hit. Anyway, that all out of the way, the rest of this album is pretty good. I guess I never really realized how much of The Rolling Stones’ music has blues, country, and honky-tonk inspiration to it, especially given the lack thereof in a lot of their hits (though Honky Tonk Women should probably have been a giveaway). And I think it works pretty well for them - Wild Horses and Can’t You Hear Me Knocking are both fantastic tunes, though really I enjoyed most everything here. That being said, I’m not picking up on why people consider this album to be monumental or game-changing for rock music. It’s a fine slice of the era for sure, and maybe I just had to be there to really get it, but listening now, this feels far from mind-blowing or even all that phenomenal for that matter. It’s the kind of thing to register around a 3.5 for me, but I’m going to knock it down a half star for the reasons mentioned in my opening paragraph. Call me a snowflake or woke or whatever you want, I don’t care, regardless, I’m not hearing five stars here.
3.5 Better than the last Stones album I listened to for this project, more solid classics. Wild Horses always gets me in the feels. I like the Stones just fine, probably more than many, I just don’t think they’re ever gonna touch me super deeply
Generic Stones album. Wild Horses is great though! Showcase their trademark style and if you like it you'll love this. Its a solid 3 for this guy.
The hits off this album are great. The rest just weren’t for me. There must be a Rolling Stones album that’s great front to back but I don’t think this is it
Good stuff
Old western rock vibe
A good album. Some brilliant songs. They’ve never really been my cup of tea but moments like Wild Horses stop me in my tracks.
Laid-back and kind of cool, but Spinal Tap's satire has made parts of this hard to take seriously now.
It sounds alright, but is utterly forgettable.
A good album though a little generic in parts. Low 3.
It's fine.
Vahva 3
If this is supposed to be the Stones at their best, boy do I don't wanna hear their worst. Don't get mw wrong, I like the Stones overall, but my enjoyment us mostly limited to a select few songs cause I never really listened to them consistently. And if this album is any indication then that will probably continue. It's just decent and nothing more.
Expected big things when I saw The Rolling Stones pop up, but I was let down. Not really digging it, kinda mid album. Best song is probably 'Moonlight Mile'.
For a band that is well known as a singles artist as opposed to an albums artist, there sure are a lot of Rolling Stones albums in this list.
It has some nice riffs, but it's not outstanding.
It's Stones so it's not bad. But saying "not bad" about Stones is not right. I felt I should've get more from them. Maybe it's just my taste in music kicking in. Not the biggest fan of Stones. Still valuable album.
Like drinking a warm beer with a fly in it on a monday night
A classic album with a couple of classic songs.
I liked it, but some songs were pretty forgettable.
In retrospect, generic classic 1970's rock and roll. Notable in it's role in establishing that sound in 1971.
I know the Rolling Stones is very popular but I honestly can't remember any of the songs I listened to now that it has been a couple days and that's not a great sign for this album
Had cool guitar riffs and some classics!
We’ll always have a sweet spot for this album. Wild Horses - BHS ‘78 class song. Childhood living IS easy to do. Brown Sugar played heavily at high school parties throughout the 70s, one classmate with the mover like Jagger (long before that was a thing) doing imitations. Yeh, ya probably had to be there (and be drunk.) Bitch is still kick ass rock . Zipper cover was cool for a while, then just broke. (2.9*s)
A fair bit of filler, but overall enjoyable blues rock.
This album has some real bangers on it. “Brown Sugar”, “Dead Flowers”, and especially the jam at the end of “Can’t you hear me knocking” (my favorite part of the whole ride). Some of the songs fell flat with me, like “I got the blues”. “Sister Morphine” followed by “Dead Flowers” had me wondering if these dudes were OK. I loved the sax and the keys on this album. The orchestral ending was a nice surprise. “You gotta move” seemed like a fun riff on “come on in my kitchen” but ultimately, I felt like they were lampooning things at times. The feigned or attempted country western accent in “Dead Flowers” was a good example of this, though I absolutely love that song. Wish it was longer, I could have used more of the “brown sugar” energy/vibe.
Generally speaking, I loathe the Stones. This album gets a passing grade primarily due to the nostalgia factor of Brown Sugar and Wild Horses. Wild Horses is one of the (very) few Stones songs that isn't complete garbage IMO.
Ah, que gusto da escuchar un buen disco. Aún sin ser el mejor de los stones, es un discazo.
Thats good american sound...
I've never really been a rolling stones fan and this album didn't change that.
Me gusta pero no es mi estilo
Classic Rolling Stones, better than Let It Bleed
Starts out great then the seeding half changes genre to more of an experimental rock. 2nd half not for me. Enjoyed the first half
The Stones are primarily a combination of two things: blues-influenced rock, and provocative lyrics. Well, I'm not much into blues, so that aspect of the Stones doesn't draw me in. And I'm not a 13-year-old boy, so these "provocative" lyrics also don't do anything for me. In fact, whenever I hear it in their songs, I roll my eyes because it seems so calculated. Songs like Brown Sugar, Sway, and Sister Morphine seem to be trying to push the lyrical envelope, but it more or less turns me off. You Gotta Move and I Got The Blues are straight boring. That doesn't mean it's all bad. Can't You Hear Me Knocking is probably my favorite Stones track. Bitch is a classic, and Dead Flowers is a great, down-home, country rock sing-along. I like that Moonlight Mile is a little different. I'm hoping in doing this exercise I'll find the deeper tracks that will open my eyes a little more to this band. However, that didn't happen here.
Album # 27 The only song I ever liked on this album is Wild Horses but this album is quintessentially Stones
Good old rock n roll at the top, then drifts into more meandery, bluesy/balladey territory
pretty good
Groovy
not the biggest stones fan but i enjoyed this one
The best stones album on this list so far, multiple hits that I enjoy but the non hit songs still don't do much for me. 3.5
I remember this was an album that my dad had although can't say I recall listening to it much. It has a pretty timeless feel. Brown Sugar and Wild Horses are big hits but my faves are Can't You Hear Me Knocking and Dead Flowers.
Great in comparison to rock. I was thinking either 3 or 4 stars.
They can do better
It’s ok
Brown Sugar is nice. Apart from that, there is much too much Blues for my taste. 3/5
3.5
Soldi album, not their best but still good.
I’m so not a fan of them lol, not awful but a bit of a trudge
Pretty good album. The first half is definitely stronger than the second half. I've heard many of these songs before and there were no other new standouts. The album cover is iconic, though.
Starts off with some bangers, then it feels a bit repetitious for me. Did enjoy Goin' Home - 11 minutes of 60s blues rock; although it also sounded like much of the rest of the album.
It’s ok, a couple great songs
Sounds like early stones. Little twangy, lots of horns, good album, not my favorite
muy buen inicio y muy buen final
Los Rolling de siempre
These dudes loved drugs. Overall enjoying it as an album but nothing grabbed me more than a 3
This was cool, not the most banger filled but it had some jams. Turns out everyone loves drugs. Mick Jagger has a great voice and Kieth Richard’s had some stand out moments but nothing epic.
cba to review lolol
I’ve never really listened to the Stones before. While not exactly my cup of tea, it was a fun experience.
There’s some bangers from the rolling stones but none of them was on this album :D It’s nice to listen but nothing mind-blowing.
Nice album with a mix of different style of rock. Quick and to the point with couple of hits sprinkled in. I did find a song I really liked. Can’t you hear me knocking.
Some classics on here too but yeah, I don’t really feel the need to come back to most of these.
Not really my type of music, but I liked some songs.
Bluesy Rolling Stones. No tanto rock sino mas suave.
The Rolling Stones have never been my favorite band and I have been around a long time. I did enjoy the slower selections though.
OK
I loved the sound of it and I’ve never listened to The Rolling Stones before. Some of the lyrics seems so simple, almost silly but once I started to look into the songs I could see there was deeper meaning. I’m glad I listened!
Heard before, don't mind it, not a fan of Jagger though
Starts off extremely strong but side two drags so much.
Better dad rock as well. Some jams are good, some songs over stay their welcome a bit. Will I listen to again: 20%
Fairly middle of road. Wild horses was nice
Strong start and got less interesting towards the end. 3/4
Нууууу такое...
Decent album.
Brown Sugar is kind of fucked up, right? Knocking feels like pretty out-of-character Santana-inspired jam, which is cool, though they deny the influence in interviews. So good though.
Good album, probably one I won't throw on a ton but I definitely will listen to again. Stand outs were brown sugar and wild horses (so good).
A classic.
Pretty good
Some hits, but some slow duds. Historic band, OK album.
Too much sloppy nonsense, but 'Wild Horses' and 'Can't You Hear Me Knocking' are absolutely classics.
esta bueno para el tiempo que se hizo, hay temas joyitas teniendo en cuenta que viene de los rolling... pero van a haber muy pocos cd de 5 estrellas
Foi uma luta terminar
Luta pra terminar
Some good songs.
I'm actually a bit surprised at the laid back nature of this album compared to their future hits. It's somewhat refreshing and not what I expected. Some songs have a country/honky tonk feel to them. It's definitely a classic and I can see why it got them a lot of attention back in the day. I enjoyed it, but it's a little too laid back for my tastes to hoist it as their best album and I'm already pretty meh about the Rolling Stones in general.
Heard it before?: Yes Enjoy it?: I do like this one, some classics and great variety ever present Favourite song: Track 4 - Can’t You Hear Me Knocking
I get the appeal as the edgy alternative to the Beatles but wow is this remarkably boring by today's standards. There are highlights and the Stones know how to write a song but Jaggers vocals are rough (Wild Horses is so much better on every cover) and the instrumentals are good but feel derivative of blues greats running the same time. Maybe I'm just on the wrong side of the hype train. I don't know, it just doesn't hold up for me.
Would be 4 stars, but Brown Sugar is just too disturbing.
I am all for this saxophone stuff.
Brown Sugar and Wild Horses are classic, and the album is overall good, but for an album with a reputation of being among the Stones' best, I wasn't blown away or anything.
Not their best work from that era.
All round good album, personal favourite track was Sister Morphine. I also enjoyed learning about the album cover having a physical zipper on it, a gamechanger of an album to know about
I like classic rock. The Rolling stones do it well. Moonlight Mile would be my standout. Lot of lovely songs and sooo many sweet guitar melodies and phrases I will think of many times in the future. I actually wanna listen to more Rolling Stones after this. Its good road trip music (or maybe i think this is cause i was driving while listening). Overall, I enjoyed. But I will say, I wasn't blown away. Maybe it is considered iconic more for the time that it came out? I wouldn't know. I guess I have to listen to everything now.
KR är bra. Kanske Stones bästa. Men väljer så många band före RS.
Yeh it's aight... wild horses goes hard
This is a great album. I prefer Let it Bleed, overall, but Sticky Fingers is a really satisfying listen with a couple of classics (Wild Horses, Brown Sugar).
its aight
Brown sugar- fucking yikes Sway - nice beat, mediocre lyrics Wild Horses - I actually enjoyed this one, wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it but it's nice. Can't You Hear Me Knocking - classic Rolling Stones, enjoyable You Gotta Move - eh Bitch - okay I Got The Blues - I like it, their slower songs seem to hit more Sister Morphine - really good Dead Flowers - whiplash with the country tones, also really good Moonlight Mile - okay Overall: It's okay, they've done better. Second half was a lot better imo.
It’s interesting how some of these became such iconic hits and some are rarely played.
Don't really know the rolling stones' music that well, the album is very chill to listen to while driving. In many songs you feel the blues
Yep that's the stones alright
Better album than the one I last listened to. I should not have rated that one four stars it just had Paint It, Black in it ig. If I could go back I'd rate it a three like this one.
It’s the stones innit
Another fucking Stones album? Great. Honestly it’s impossible for me to objectively rate this boomer shit because I have been obliged to listen to so many of these songs so many times. Do I really need to hear Wild Horses again? Great song, not sure it belongs in Mick Jagger’s mouth though. Sounds like it should be a song by The Band. Same with Dead Flowers, with its idiotic put-on accent. If taken in earnest, these tracks just strengthen the impression I got after listening to Beggars Banquet (how many RS albums are on this fucking list anyway?): the Stones are hipster posers, so adept at imitation it obscures their originality. Sister Morphine highlights this, because it is an amalgamation of their strengths with whatever they were obsessively listening to when they wrote this album. So that’s my favorite track. Also Brown Sugar has always been creepy, even if you take away all the slavery references.
Yea not bad
Brown Sugar - 2.75 Sway - 2.5 Wild horses - 3.75 Cant you hear me knocking - 2.5 You gotta move - 2 Bitch - 3.25 I got the blues - 2.5 Sister morphine - 2.25 Dead flowers - 2.25 Moonlight mile - 2.25
Solid dad rock but I’ve heard more dynamic stuff from both the genre and artist that appeals to me more.
reminds me of something I would listen to when cleaning my room or studying, it’s very calming but also upbeat at points, I really liked wild horses, sway, bitch, I got the blues, and midnight mile
#29 From the songs to the album art, this album is iconic. Classic Stones blues rock with a little country thrown in. Most of the songs are great, the rest are good. The problem, however, is listening to "Brown Sugar". It's structurally a great song, but the lyrics are something else. Simply gross, to be honest. 3.5* rounded down to 3. I just can't get over that song.
3/5. The first half of the album is really good. Second half feels like B-sides, definitely a weaker run. Also, Brown Sugar, despite being the best on the album, is a little concerning to listen to nowadays. Can't You Hear Me Knocking is arguably the best song, with its great solos. Overall, a decent rock album, more country-rock in general.
I do wonder what this would have felt like in the moment. I also wonder what the overall transition from the 60's to the 70's felt like -- feels like a rough one. Not sure I had heard Moonlight Mile before but enjoyed that one. 3.5 stars
I always expect to be blown away by Rolling Stones albums but (aside from the occasional great song) I just find them ok. This album is noteworthy for the band having broken with their album and gained artistic freedom. And of course for the innovative and risqué album cover by Andy Warhol. But for me, most of the music isn't that memorable.
I liked it. I didn't find it quite memorable, but I'm sure it's something that has to do with personal taste.
The lyrics to Brown Sugar are abhorrent. The rest is good enough to listen to.
I've got the blues songs sounds very blue. But otherwise very enjoyable album. Can totally understand why Rolling Stones was legendary for their time.
3/5
Not a huge Stones fan but this is probably my favorite album of theirs. Especially like WILD HORSES and MOONNIGHT MILE
Cool Jojo reference Overrated album.
Sikkert greit, fulgte ikkje så godt med
A few great songs. The rest is good. 3.5
Very country sounding but of course teeming with hits
Dont get me wrong, it's good classic rock and roll, stands the test of time. Good quality, but didnt overly wow me. Favorite song, Cant You Hear Me Knocking
🤷
there are some flashes of greatness, the middle of CYHNK and the end of Moonlight Mile. when they got kinda psychedelic and out there. wish they leaned more into it
Okay I guess.
Probably the most famous of the Stones' albums, it also best demonstrates the Stones’ brand of uninspiring, mundane, rock music. Also, the 5th Stones album I’ve been served with over here.
not bad
alright some dips in quality keep this from being any higher but okay album
Classic blues rock. The stones have definitely influenced Black Crows, and many other modern blues rock bands.
For a Rolling Stones album Sticky Fingers didn't really hit me in the way I expected it to. It was more blues rock but not in the same way their earlier works sounded, where I expected more of a rock n roll vibe. Probably the most interesting part of the album was the cover art where they managed to have an image of a man in tight jeans with a fully functioning zipper exposing some tighty-whities. Best: Wild Horses Worst: I Got The Blues 2.5 Stars
when dinosaurs walked the earth, when the Stones were young, when this record sounded exciting and new
I enjoyed the album. It is certainly better than a 3. Can't Hear Me Knocking is the best song on the album. Dead Flowers brings the album down which prevents rounding up.
I've never really understood the love for The Rolling Stones, but I got a little glimpse of that on this album. This is the not the first Stones album we've been dealt but it is the first one that made me say, Okay.
probably a bit before my time, not something I would usually listen to but its still somehow nostalgic?
I was never really exposed to the Stone outside of whatever I heard on classic rock radio, but this was a good mix of blues and great riffs, and just some good rock and roll. Loved the backing vocals on some of these songs, and the highlight for me was Can't You Hear Me Knocking and that epic jam for the last 4 min of the song.
So far my experience is the the Rolling Stones made great singles not great albums and so far this has been the case as well, the songs aren't bad they were quite good but it didn't feel cohesive as an album for me overall forgettable outside a few singles.
meh
It was good, but unfortunately it’s hard for me to like this when I’ve been spoiled by people pushing the envelope further and further to where this sounds very vanilla. The songs are all solid for the most part, but don’t sound like anything I can’t get anywhere else nowadays. The one standout I got was Can’t You Hear Me Knocking, as well as liking the others hits such as Queen Morphine. Compared to the other British Invasion acts, this one seems to have aged in a way that makes it seem generic (which might be a good thing if everyone copied this style?) rather than revolutionary. Good, but don’t have a lot of desire to revisit.
some of the stones best, but i still don’t love the stones - i have yet to click w them
some of the rolling stones' biggest hits are on sticky fingers. as someone who mostly knows only the stones' hits from the radio, it was a different experience to listen to this album in its entirety. their hits are generally straight up rock and roll, but i found much more depth in the other songs here. i mean, yes, it was a lot of rock! but the stones incorporated blues, folk, a pinch of jazz that was unexpected but not unwelcome. sticky fingers made for an interesting listen that kept rewarding me the more i paid attention. also, "brown sugar" is a bop.
Considering "Brown Sugar" is one of my favorite Stones songs, if not my absolute favorite, I expected to love this album more. I find the A-Side/B-Side single pairing of "Brown Sugar" and "Bitch" to be fitting and fun, but the rest of the album doesn't really do it for me as much. The rest of the album is very heavy on roots rock and even bluesy rock. Still a decent entry from the Stones, just not my fave.
I was about four tracks, and when I was ready to resign, writing this off as another average, Dad rock album. Then can you hear me knocking started playing🔥 the way the guitar matches the lyrics during the hook he’s like candy to my ears. Overall though, that was the only highlight. Most of the album just kinda dredged on for me, not bad. Not good.
Some bangers on here and some duds. You gotta move is actually hilariously bad and it sounds like that one tik tok sound I’m the beginning 😂. First three songs was a pretty good run, first 4 even. Also I don’t think I’ve ever paid attention to the brown sugar lyrics and they are actually wild asf. Song still slaps though. Dont feel like I was missing much having not heard this. I’ve already heard the best songs and the rest of them I could do without. Actually sway could make it into my Rotation. Won’t be revisiting but it was an enjoyable listen still. Best: brown sugar, sway Was gonna try to be different for MMM but I don’t think there’s much comp here: BROWN SUGAR🗣️HOW COME YOU TASTE SO GOOD😮 BROWN SUGAR🗣️ (redacted)🤨
I’ve seen this ranked as the Stones’ best album, but again I came away expecting more. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a decent listen (as far as highlights go: Moonlight Mile is great and the guitar riff on Brown Sugar is undeniable). It’s just that at no point during it did I think ‘wow, these guys are/were the best band in the world’, or even ‘nobody sounds like The Rolling Stones’. Because lots of bands do, no? 3 / 3.5
Pre thoughts: I like TRS but I have heard their albums are boring to listen to I.e some of the deep cuts aren't as good. Track 1: Brown Sugar. Love this song. Track 3: wild horses good slow ballad Track 4: Can't you hear me knocking. OK but bored of the 4 min solo. Does nothing for me Track 5: You gotta move: 2/5 Track 6: Better. Upbeat Track. Good solo. Sister Morphine. Love the solo and the guitar work
Favorite song: I Got The Blues
Sticky Fingers - The Rolling Stones Brown sugar - 3/5 Sway - 4/5 Wild horses - 3/5 Can't you hear me knocking - 2/5 You gotta move - 2/5 Bitch - 4/5 I got the blues - 3/5 Sister morphine - 3/5 Dead flowers - 4/5 Moonlight mile - 3/5 Favs: Sway Bitch Dead flowers
Good
One of stones better albums, although for me personally, I was never a stones fan, i dont get why so many people get a hard on for their music, and this album, although ok, is nothing outstanding. That said, there are a few good tracks on here, Brown Sugar being a great opening track, and Wild Horses a simple and enchanting track, but a lot of the rest drifts off into a New Orleans style bluesy musical drawl that could have been better, but I found I really couldn't be bothered listening to it a lot of the time, simply waiting for the next track. On a plus point, for an album that's over 50 years old, the good bits still command a really good sound.
- tbh a little too ~classic~ rock for me - not as much energy as I wanted or anticipated - 2.5 round up - Bitch is a banger
1 week, 2 rolling stones albums. bored as always
Classic album, an epitome of its era. It aged a bit though.
My first Stones record on here. I've never really listened to them outside the huge singles so I'm looking forward to hearing these. This is an odd one to start with for me, I think. It kicks off with Brown Sugar; a song played so much it's probably impossible to hear it in any way new. Then, I've got to be honest, most of the rest of the album just sort of washed over me. It does sound "important" and I did enjoy it but I can't imagine I'll play it again. Except for Wild Horses; a song I love so much it brings the whole album a star in my ratings.
I mean, it’s The Rolling Stones. What’s not to like?
A lot of this has been done before and better, by the Stones and other beat groups. Probably would have enjoyed it more if the first track wasn’t about the systemic rape of enslaved black women.
The Rolling Stones were a huge deal. I personally never got into them. I don't dislike them. I just never really seek them out. So this will be a fun listen. It was good. Nothing mind blowing or nothing that stuck out.
ACE riffs right from the start. There's some great sax on Brown Sugar that is hidden way down in the mix. I didn't know that Billy Preston appeared on this album. Wild Horses is both morose and uplifting. It has that rare quality of recognising that life can be shitty, but gives you a helping hand to rise above it. I think? The rest of the album rambles a little with Can't You Hear Me Knocking. It's best not to analyse and navel gaze - just enjoy Sticky Fingers. It's only rock 'n' roll, YEAH?
Nope. Still not a fan of classic rock. However this was better than I was expecting.
Classic but not a big stones fan.
не мои ребята, не мой жанр, утомляюсь
They say you're either a Stones fan or a Beatles fan, but you damn well must like one over the other. I'm a Beatles fan. I dig the Stones. This is a pretty good record and I completely understand why it is a classic in the truest sense of the word. But I'm just not thrilled by it. There are about 5 songs by the Stones that I think are among the best songs ever written/recorded, but only Wild Horses and Dead Flowers are on this record. Just to demonstrate where I'm at, I fucking LOVE these two songs. But the Stones didn't even like the song Wild Horses so they gave it to the Flying Burrito Brothers. Then after everyone liked it a ton, they recorded it themselves. And by far the best version of Dead Flowers was done by Townes Van Zandt. So, I'm not trying to diminish the songs or the Stones in any way, but I suppose that just goes to demonstrate that I never connected with this band the way many do.
Meh
I actually knew a guy nicknamed Sticky Fingers in high school. None of you want to hear his backstory but I'm telling you regardless. Are you ready? No? Well here we go! So Sticky Fingers, Sticky for short, was three years older than me, like most of my friends at the time. I was not acquainted with any of them when they were early high school students, but by the time I was a freshman and they were seniors we became friends. Occasionally I had heard the rest of the group refer to him as Sticky behind his back, but I was never one to but in and ask for the backstory. Two years later, while they were all in college, everyone was just drunk enough to tell me the whole story. So here it is... As sophomores in high school, the group threw a party one Saturday. The group was primarily guys, a few of their girlfriends too, but in general it was a real sausage fest. They all got very very hammered that night, as was usual for their soirees. I should also mention that they were notorious for their gay tendencies. I'm talking sneaky nuts (urban dictionary if you don't know), ass slaps, drunk smooches on the cheek. You name it, they probably did it. But back to the story. On this night, someone had a grand idea of doing a circle jerk onto a piece of white bread. So they did it. They all gathered around, whipped their cocks out, and started masturbating onto a piece of Wonder Bread. Why the Indian man hosting the party had Wonder Bread at his house is beyond me, but he did. Eventually, everyone finished except for one - Sticky. Sticky felt ashamed, and frankly he needed to finish for his own wellbeing, so he stumbled into a room. In that room, blacked out on a bed, was one of the guys in the group. He had been knocked out for over an hour now and had no concept that the circle jerk had happened. Well, Sticky, in his drunken state, pulled his dick back out and started tugging at it again. Now that he was in private, he could really focus on the task in hand. All of a sudden, he felt it cumming. With nowhere to put the incoming ejaculate, he chose the only logical spot: the sleeping man's hand. The next morning, the sleeping man woke up from his alcohol induced coma and found that his hand had something weird on it. Asking the rest of the group, they were all confused too. As they walked back through the events of the night, they finally deduced this story. Sticky later admitted to one person that he did do it, and that person told the rest of the group. And that is the story of Sticky Fingers. I hope you all enjoyed.
Liked Wild Horses. I just don’t think I’m a very big Stones fan.
Good
I had heard most of these tracks many times when I was younger. While I'm still not a very consistent Stones fan, there are some good songs on this one. I appreciate how important and influential they have been on so much music and culture since the 60s, but, honestly, while a handful of their songs are truly excellent to my ears, I'm just not wildly into them overall.
