Reviews (page 3 of 14)
I read somewhere that Rolling Stone said that "Heavy metal still lives in its shadow" about this record. I can't really add more. It's a nearly perfect record that needs to be listened to by anyone serious about music in any way.
Not many albums changed the world and not many artists can borrow other people’s tunes and make them their own but Led Zeppelin did just that with this album. Mind blowing this is 56 years old at this point! Superb debut album. Better was to come from them but this is the blueprint for the heavy rock movement to come. Essential.
Obviously it's one of the best debut albums ever, and it's from 1969 which is probably the best year in the history of rock music. I haven't listened to this album for quite some time and actually as I've listened to a lot of Yardbirds lately I can hear the direct origins/influences. I like the balance of the slower, more blues oriented songs and the heavier and faster songs. It's just a brilliant album from start to finish.
As classic as it gets
where it all started
Great album.
9.39/10 5/5 Love this album! Favs: good times bad times and dazed and confused
Zeppelin at their rawest. Phenomenal debut, iconic songs.
Classic Rock album, 10/10
What can I say about one of my all-time favourite albums? I listened to the shit out this album since my late teens. My neighbours have had to put up with my clumsy attempts to play along with every single song on this album on my Gibson Les Paul, a guitar I bought because of Jimmy Page, who is in my opinion one of the top 2 guitarists of all time (I flip-flop between himself and Hendrix a lot for pole position). Zeppelin exploded (pun intended) into the world of rock music with this album, mixing blues tunes (played to perfection) with folky numbers and heavier, darker sounds that became blueprints for heavier rock and even metal down the line. I can only imagine what it was like to hear Zeppelin for the first time back in '69. They took things to a new level. This is a collective of some of the best musicians of all time. Jimmy Page is, as I've mentioned, one of the best guitarists of all time (if not THE best). John Bonham IS the undisputed best drummer of all time. Robert Plant has one of the most powerful voices in rock history. And lets not forget the genius of John Paul Jones. With these four making music together, it could only be one thing: epic. The blues standards on the album are taken to a new level. Page's guitar is ready to burst to life at any given moment. It feels like he's trying to tame his guitar from taking off at any point during "I Can't Quit You Baby", and he eventually fails, and his guitar soars all over the song. Think of the build-up to his solo in "You Shook Me": we're treated to John Paul Jones' stellar hammond organ work, then Plant's fantastic harmonica (with added grunts), before Page takes over, and even his solo is a slow build-up to the explosion of energy it becomes. Then at the end of the song, we have the intense moment when Page and Plant start their vocal/guitar duel, with reverse echo, making it feel like we're hearing them battle instruments from another dimension. The rockier "riff-driven" songs like "Good Times Bad Times" and "Communication Breakdown" are instant classics. But Zeppelin show they can do acoustic too with the absolute masterpiece of "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" and the witchy reworking of Bert Jansch in "Black Mountain Side". And there's a sneak peak at some of the folkier songwriting that will be more visible in later albums in the criminally underrated "Your Time Is Gonna Come". I really enjoyed reminding myself just how good that song is. "Dazed and Confused" is the centerpiece here. That main riff is so dark, it feels like it came straight from the darkest depths of Mordor. And then after an avant garde break for Page to bow his guitar, the song takes off at an insane pace. Again, I can't imagine what it must have been like to hear this in 1969, it still feels ahead of its time today. "How Many More Times" is a great way to finish the album. The main riff is catchy as hell, then we're given a glimpse of the "song-ception" that Zeppelin became so good at during their live gigs: throwing more songs into the middle of performing one of their own, making long, winding medleys. The middle section of this song goes into another extended bow part, before we're transitioned into another couple of songs, "Rosie"/"The Hunter", in the middle. When Bonham's drum comes in here, this is one of my favourite musical moments - what a beat, mixed with that riff, just amazing stuff1 And then it transitions further until we're back at the main riff again to finish the album off in style. A perfect album from start to finish. What a way to arrive.
The debut album from the greatest band of all time
Led Zeppelin has a near perfect discography. This record is incredible. "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" has always been the stand out for me. 18/19
What can you say but one of the most incredible albums by one of us not the most influential rock band.
Awesome album, one of the best
Led Zeppelin always great. Crazy that this debut album came out in 1969 and still rocked this hard.
All freaking bangers, every one of them!
I could go into a detailed discussion about how so many of these songs are absolutely amazing, and also the realization of so much of many greatest hits compilation is in this album. But lets just say ridiculous amount of amazing songs for one album full marks.
Yeah
5/5 one of the best debuts ever
Sure, they stole a ton of stuff from so many people and bands, but they still put a great sounding record together. Hell, Clapton stole the same stuff and put out mediocre trash for years.
Classic
I didn’t expect to enjoy this so much. It’s so very well crafted. It meanders, but always comes back. It’s just a great bunch of musicians exploring their sound. Not bad for an early effort.
No notes. Zeppelin was amongst the gods.
Doesn't even need a listen. One of the best debut albums of all time.
Obviously this is a watershed album in ROC history, and in my view it holds up extremely well even today. It’s only of those albums that the general population understood so much better at the time than critics - the lukewarm reception by music critics at the time is laughable today. As time goes on LZ1 goes toe to toe with LZ4 in their discography for me. I for one prefer these two and LZ2 over Physical Graffiti, and while I used to have 4 way out in front this record sounds better to me almost every time I hear it. It also has such an iconic album cover that still looks amazing today. My highlights here are Good Times Bad Times, Dazed and Confused, Your Time Is Gonna Come, and Communication Breakdown. The entire album is timeless though, it’s a stone cold classic that will outlive us all.
It’s the least perfect in a perfect run of albums, I’ll survive
legends
Venia de una racha de discos ignotos y me sale con tamaña obra maestra.
qué comienzo de carrera
SO GOOD HOW HAVE I NEVER LISTENED TO THIS BEFORE??? Also I feel like Jeff Buckley was influenced this because I’m definitely feeling the vibes
A perfect rock album.
Absolute classic. Even when Led Zeppelin blatantly steal, their interpretation of blues classics explodes from the speakers. I listened to this album way too much in the past, so I do not play it often anymore, but I still think it's a 5/5.
The first 4 Zeppelin albums, beginning with this one, changed hard rock music forever.
What a debut album. Is it as good as II or IV? Probably not, but what is?
Every song is a complete banger. Love this album
Soft 5. I would absolutely fuck with this if I was around in 1969. I also absolutely fuck with this now.
26.09.25 #3 Favourite tracks: good times bad times, black mountain side Rate: 9.9/10
Among the best of all time. Great listen!
I was sheltered with music as a very young teen. Only really introduced to Led Zeppelin by a school friend when I was 17. I Went out and grabbed a Zeppelin compilation tape that was on constant play in my car. A couple of songs from this album on that compilation. Brilliant album, one of the very best
- Listened to studio and live albums - They sound surprisingly similar :) - Wild range of styles - Awesome album, I'm sure I'll listen again, but I don't "need the vinyl"
Favorite Song: Babe I'm Gonna Leave You Least Favorite Song: Black Mountain Side
Amazing album! Solid rocker all the way through. There's a reason so many bands list Led Zeppelin as inspiration. This one opens strong and stays strong all the way through. My rating: 5/5
5-
Truly one of the best debuts in music history, not a single bad or even filler track on it. With tracks like communication breakdown, how many more times, and dazed and confused being personal highlights for me. Everything just comes together so we'll here, like John Bonham's thunderous drums, Jimmy Page's roaring guitar, Robert Plant's soaring vocals, and finally, John Paul Jones' rock solid rhythm keeping everything in check. I will happily come back to listen to this one
Legendary rock n roll. Guitar heavy, world class drums, a baseline for days and a lead singers voice from the heavens.
It's the first effort from a great band. Not in full flight yet but when you hear tracks like "Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You" or "Dazed And Confused" you get a glimpse of what is to come. It's big and loud but surprisingly deft and soulful. Zeppelin are announcing themselves and their intent to the world.
Let’s note that this album was made in the same years as man landed to moon. This album belongs to stars!
I'm in a bit of a quandary as to how to rate this album. On the one hand these were great musicians who really blew up the blues rock genre with a series of classic albums, reinventing the blues in a way, a heavy way. On the other hand, in the years since release, whole swathes of their albums turned out to be uncredited covers (aka plagiarised) of other artists' work, in many cases requiring legal action to restore writing credit. But then again, Led Zeppelin made such a swaggering take on the music that they virtually reinvented the songs. Well, upon reflection I reckon this is a 5 star album
Sublime Led Zeppelin Rankings: IV I III II Best Song: Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You Rating: 9/10 Stars: 5/5
Imagining what it would've been like when this album first dropped. Basically the birth of heavy metal, especially as around the time Deep purple and Black Sabbath were starting out. You can hear a lot of the blues in there, with a lot of Robert Johnson style guitar playing. Its by no means Led Zeppelin's best but its probably one of the best debut albums. and it just blew the doors so wide open for every hard rock and heavy metal band to follow.
This is one of the greatest albums ever written by the greatest artist ever
Didn't think I could underrate Zeppelin, given their place in history, but this ruled
This is probably in the bottom half of Zeppelin albums for me. Don't care still a 5.
Excellent.
I thought, “This will be fun! Zeppelin 1 is not my very most favorite Zeppelin album, so it’ll be cool to hear how it stacks up.” Now I need to downgrade almost all of my other album scores. Jimmy Page’s guitar wizardry and studio alchemy is well known. And Robert Plant’s absolutely maniacal, but always perfectly placed, wailing is the stuff of rock legend. (What gave a 19-year old kid the idea that he could come into the studio and sing with such abandon? It could have gone so wrong.) But what’s really most amazing on this blusiest of the Zep campaigns is Bonham’s drumming. Sure he’s beating the crap out of his kit. But his drumming is also extremely artful, tasteful and creative. He’s really the best rock n roll drummer that has ever been. This album, an homage to American blues, is like nothing that came before it. Hands down, a 5.
What can we even say about LeD ZePPeLiN that isn't a superlative? They exploded on the scene and changed things for everyone. Every band after was inspired by them, whether they realize it or not.
There is nothing anyone dead or alive could have done to make this album any better
This album rocks. It contains some absolute masterpieces, and starts off with two bangers. Awesome hammond organ and harmonica solo in "You Shook Me". I absolutely love the intro to "Your Time Is Gonna Come", which sounds like they attempted to recreate (or at least sound similar) to the sound of a church organ, which fits the title of the song nicely.
They’re all 5s?
We already know.
The perfect balance of rock and blues
what a fantastic album, great crossroads of blues and rock. robert plant can suggestively moan at me any time.
So much fun stuff going on. Blues is Jazz, but for the peeeeeople.
Debut from the greatest rock band ever. This album bangs from the the 1st beat of Bonzo’s drums, add the grooving bass, eclectic guitar, and those soaring vocals. Six stars !!!
That damn guitar does something to me honestly. Not as good as Led Zeppelin IV but it’s a REAL great album :)
The classic album of all classic albums.
A beast of a debut album - hard blues rock doesn't get any better than this
Listened to this album hundreds of times. All time great. Literally, first note to last.
great from start to finish, some brilliant bluesy tracks, I cant quit you babe and dazed and confused. Its not even their best album, merely a taste of whats to come.
Is there a better opening to an album out there? Is there a better debut album out there? Fuck it, is there a better album out there? If there is, I can't wait to find it on this list. The only downside to it is how you can look at your own life and realise how useless and talentless you are. Closest thing I've heard to perfection, and they're not even my favourite band. 5 all day long.
They rocked so hard they made a blimp crash.
A classic, although not quite my favorite Zeppelin.
Rockin!
Standouts Good Times Bad Times Babe I'm Gonna Leave You Dazed and Confused Your Time is Gonna Come Black Mountain Side Communication Breakdown
Oh this one is easy. Another all time favorite. The sound is as distinctive in 1969 as it is today. One of the albums my mind has memorized after repetitive playing. Intro to the album with the hammering of Bonzo, leads to Robert crooning thru blues infused lyrics, of women done wrong. Jimmy with his guitar licks, hammers, and bow, making music never imagined before. Not to leave JPJ out with his soaring organ intro to “Your Time is Going to Come”. As familiar as this music seems now it was the likes never before heard.
This brought back some great listening memories!! This album is filled with soul and Robert Plants vocals are just amazing. Zeppelin, to me, will always be at the top of the charts. What a pleasure to listen to a lot of these songs again.
I love this album! Drums, guitars, keyboard, harmonica, and lyrics are crafted into music new to the ear but reminiscent of the past. I love the lyrics and the bluesy take of the woman done wrong. Hard to believe but from 1969 to today this still hits strong.
Lucky me, Led Zeppelin again! This album had more of a blues feel, but still so many recognizable classics for the band’s debut album!
John john bonhamme’s drum leadoff on babe im gonna leave is still my favorite thing on any zeppelin album
Led Zeppelin but they’re still figuring it out
I've already listened to his album (3). Still rocks to this day.
Great album and joining the list of this being an insane debut. Babe I'm Gonna Leave you is such an incredible sound and it following Good Times Bad Times starts the album off so strong. This is a tough one since there's better Zeppelin and they didn't invent their sound but the way they merged styles and brought a huge change in music has to take into account on the rating.
Good Times Bad Times - 9/10 Babe I'm Gonna Leave You - 10/10 You Shook Me - 8.5/10 Dazed And Confused - 9.5/10 Your Time Is Gonna Come - 8/10 Black Mountain Side - 8/10 Communication Breakdown - 10/10 I Can't quit you baby - 9/10 How Many More Times - 10/10 91/100
Favorite Zeppelin album so far! Easy 5.
So good, so cool
Most excellent. Loved the instrumentals here. Overall fun album to listen to!
I can't give this anything less than 5 stars because of how groundbreaking it was and how listenable and amazing most of the work still is. Yes, it has some "white boy blues" on it, but it also has guitar, vocal, and drum work on it that still stands up today, as well as riffs that are still as rocking as ever.
Amazing album
10/10
Duh
5 for Dazed and Confused, and also Black Mountainside.
Up there as one of the greatest debut albums of all time. No crumbs
To do the Zeppathon, you gotta start at the beginning ... and, really, is there a better introduction in rock history than the opening notes of "Good Times Bad Times?" Fuck no. Zepp was here to kick ass and take names.
Now this is Led Zeppelin! Unlike my last album of theirs (IV) this one has the raw sound and emotion I associate with Led Zeppelin. Plus, this album was groundbreakiing for the time and really demonstrated tbe bands talent and vision. So many hits and only a handful of "filler" songs". Overall- powerhouse album. Personally a 4.5/5, but given how groundbreaking it was, it can be bumped up to a 5
It's Zeppelin - of course it's a five. But really, can you imagine listening to this in 1969? Nothing this immediately heavy existed at the time (yes, there was Blue Cheer, but they were on the downer side of things). It must've been mind-blowing. 5.0/5.0: Iconic
fantastic album
One of my favorites
This was a great album for this series. Led Zep is one of those great bands I’ve taken for granted and never given a close listen to. This album is the sound of classic rock in my head. It really highlights the link to blues in a way I didn’t appreciate.
Hadn't actually listened to this before. They really like having a chill first half of a song, and then goin wild.
This made me want to go to 1969 and experience this record sung live
This might be music perfection...mic drop
An incredible debut from one of the greatest bands to ever do it. More bluesy than I remembered it being, but it works so well. Not much else to say, just a fantastic piece of music. 5/5
Yet another album that is this site does not have enough stars for.
Just an incredible album to put on any time.
Amazing sound, constantly interesting. Worthy of being a legendary album
Turn it up! This is one of those albums just sounds better turned up. Sadly, it was not until now, was I able to listen to this album through high quality speakers (in comparison to my high school Nissan Sentra's speakers). Had a renewed appreciation for the musicianship and mix. Funky baselines, precision drums, and picking that has been attempted to be replicated at Guitar Centers across the country. Classic. Would be on my short list desert island records. My roommates were not as pleased. "Daddy that music is too loud. You are being inappropriate." Haters going to hate.
A classic. Absolute in any music collection.
Come on now, five stars. Their first six albums are all timeless classics.
A great debut album. Just imagine how it would have been to have listened to this album for the first time in early 1969! 5 stars. Would I listen again? Yes, I do regularly. Would I buy this album? I did! Side One 1 "Good Times Bad Times" - A great introduction to the album. It starts, sounding very much of its time but then it veers off. Great drumming. - 5 Stars. 2 "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" - Lovely introduction. The dissonate acoustic guitar catches the attention after the introduction. - 5 Stars 3 "You Shook Me" - Oh yes they did! Brilliant. Straight blues. The solos of Organ, Harmonica and then guitar are quite wonderful. Robert Plant is the star of this track though. - 5 Stars 4 "Dazed and Confused" - The menacing, spooky opening bass line is iconic. By the time we get to this track we know we are dealing with something special. Great solo , Bonham in the background and then back to the riff. - 5 Stars Side Two 1 "Your Time Is Gonna Come" - Lush organ and keyboards. I've always thought the chorus to be a little off, or clunky, compared to the rest of the song. - 3 Stars 2 "Black Mountain Side" - Nice instrumental with some excellent guitar and bass guitar. Adding some musical diversity to the album and indication of future intent. - 4 Stars 3 "Communication Breakdown" - And we're back! Punky riff. Dazzling guitar solo. - 5 Stars 4 "I Can't Quit You Baby" - Brilliant Blues rock. - 5 Stars 5 "How Many More Times" - What a bass line. My favourite song on the album. - 5 Stars Total - 42 Average - 4.67
I like
I'd realistically give it 4.5 stars, so I'll just make it 5
Amazing album
Such a killer first album, there’s a reason that Plant and Paige are still legends today.
4.5 - Great
Perfect album. Led Zeppelin nails that bluesy rock sound. They're just weird enough, but their sound is universal. GOAT album by a GOAT band.
All of British blues-rock was just building up to this album. Once LZ got involved, well, it was going to be tough for anyone to top them. The genre would eventually wither and die.

What can I say :)
I first heard this album in 2002, pushing 25 years ago now. It felt huge to me at the time. I really enjoyed it, even if it wasn't my favourite Zeppelin album. I don't often return to it so this is definitely a fun relisten. I mean, what else to say, it's seminal, and completely foundational for modern rock and eventually metal. 5 stars
So many good songs. Every instrument compliments each other and gets it's moment. Designed for the live show.
Masterpiece, everything's good here. Seminal bluesy album that set the foundation for the hard rock to come.
Epic album. Led Zeppelin II was the first album I heard, then this one, back in the early 90s when I first started getting into rock in junior high. Back then II was my favourite, but this one has grown on me overtime based on the strength of songs like Babe I'm Gonna Leave you, Black Mountain Side and How Many More times--all kind of sleeper tracks I wasn't as into back then. Obviously, Good Times, Bad Times, and Communication Breakdown are classics--the kind of thing I loved when a teenager especially. And Dazed and Confused. Probably the weakest moments are I Can't Quit You Baby, and Your Time is Gonna Come. You Shook me has its moments. 5/5 because this album changed rock, and started an incredible four album run before the chinks started to shine through the armour of Led Zeppelin.
Amazing. One of my favorites in rock
Communication Breakdown
Delightfully bluesy
Impossible to believe this is a debut album. If you told me this was their third or fourth, sure, but first?! Wow. Nothing but hits and such a distinctive sound.
Classic for a reason! Guitar is impeccable and Robert Plant doing what he does best. Love how he cannons the guitar in dazed and confused
Zeppelin’s debut gets an automatic 5 stars because it’s Zeppelins debut. Great album
increíble no por nada es una de mis bandas favoritas
Ted!!!!! I know you like this! Give it up. Not much that needs to be said but this time through Babe I’m Gonna Leave You fucking ROCKED. And between Plant and Bonham the sound is so huge it sounds like literal rock giants are playing. Decent debut album… Top 2 or 3 Zep albums maybe?
I think Robert Plant might be a cuck. Have you guys ever noticed how nearly every song on this album is about a woman either being untrue or cheating? And then Robert wailing in agony/ecstasy over this fact for 5-6 minutes. Something to consider.
A hall of fame debut album for the New Yardbirds 😂 These are almost all gigantic classics… Babe Im Gonna Leave You really stands out to me. Goosebumps God, reading the wiki for this reminded me of how young Plant was - 20 years old when he met Page.
Maybe one of the best opening tracks of any album ever, and one of my favorite LZ songs. I’ll say there were moments on this album where I thought it sounded like generic blues rock, and like they’re still finding their own sound, but that thought never last more than a verse. GTBT, Dazed and Confused, Your Time, and Communication are my favorites this time through. I know some songs but I’m not an old LZ fan, so this has been a fun ride. Thinking PG still stands above the pack for me but need to give them all a listen sometime soon.
Fab-u-lous
Still one of the best debuts of all time. There are just hits on the first side of the record.
A perfect debut from a pretty perfect band. 5/5
Zeppelin. Enough said.
Fantastic - you can see why they rose above their contemporaries. Brilliant instrumental work, glorious vocals, and a real variety. Dazed and Confused and communication breakdown are absolute gold classics and the rest are nearly as good. Low 5
taylor’s just mad i like all sorts of music.
Listened to this many times while playing wow
Best self titled album ever made
Absolute classic! Nothing bad to say about it at all! Favourite Songs: Good Times Bad Times, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Dazed and Confused, Communication Breakdown, How Many More Times. Least Favourite Songs: Black Mountain Side.
No false moves in this one - 5
One of the best and most influential albums of all time. An absolute masterpiece. I like how bluesy this album is compared to their later work.
Classic 60’s/80’s rock. Will always be relevant. 10/10.
I own this album on vinyl and have heard it a few times. It still blows my mind that Led Zeppelin came out of the gate with this album. Good Times Bad Times is so amazingly good, especially for the very first track anyone heard from a brand new band, and the rest of the album is no slouch either. This is an excellent album with no skips. Five stars.
Awesome
Masterpiece
Nothing much to say, it’s Led Zeppelin
One of the best debut albums from the 70s
Can you imagine coming out of the gate with this banger of an album?
Possibly one of the greatest Blues Rock debut albums of all time, with a little bit of Folk thrown in for good measure. So mnay great tracks on this album particularly "Dazed and Confused".
Pretty fucking banging album. If this isn't a 5... what is?
Glad this one came up, actually. I've heard this one so many times that I rarely think about putting it back on these days. Makes my remember why I've listened to it so much, and it still calls me back home. Solid tracks start to finish, and it's dripping with the raw bluesy sound that cemented Zero into rock royalty.
Pronti partenza via, quest'album si deve comprare.
Still an amazing, powerful debut album. A band that’s properly recognized but it’s still an incredible start to 5 album run that doesn’t disappoint. Killer stuff, up there with early Sabbath and CCR for an amazing amount of awesome music with no filler.
Hard to believe this was a debut album. Truly a masterpiece. While all of their albums are top notch, I believe this was their top release.
Classic rock, nothing else to say. 10/10
They were a bombastic band from the start. Maybe because of the skill and experience they already had, but it feels like they were a fantastic, fully formed idea from the beginning. I would have felt like the cool kid for sure if I put this on at a party when it came out. Although it would have been hard not to break that illusion as I would have probably done some air guitar at some point. Would have been amazing to see live.
There is so much variation in guitar styles out of the gate all, exquisite. Then bam, Dazed and Confused, the drums, the bass, the guitar, the vocals... the little call-and-answers underneath are just lovely. The blues standards that could have just been filler they really added something to! Also just really nicely recorded and remastered.
Should have checked this album out years ago. It's probably just overlooked because of hit-laden later albums. Ahead of their time.
Once in a while I start thinking Led Zep is overrated. Then I listen and I'm captivated all over again.
A classic.
Just, amazing. Better than I remember. Incredible drum and guitar work, and Plant’s vocals were never more powerful.
Certain bands become part of your DNA if you grow up with hearing them all the time, and Led Zeppelin is one of those bands for me. I don’t remember the first time I heard them or what song it was. I underrated this album when I was younger because it didn’t have as much of the interplay between folk, blues, and rock that came later, and that immediately drew me in. This album was more of a slow burn for me as I came to appreciate more of the roots of the music that they were exploring. The rhythm section of this band is one of the best in rock history - the Johns thunder, howl, and thump like a prowling beast
damn
Всегда великолепные альбомы у них, тут один трек прямо в сердечко
“Hey, I believe in God, man. I’ve seen him, I’ve felt his power. He plays drums for Led Zeppelin and his name is John Bonham, baby!”
We all know rock came from blues. This album is a good example of it. It's mostly rock but they had to of grown up listening to the blues. This is a great rock album. I've had friends of mine ask me to give them a good rock album to start on. I will always give a shirt list and this album is on it. Perfect rock album.
Classic album. Way more soul in this one than expected. A lovely time spent
Bum bum bum. Set the standard.
Really good
This is an excellent album. It's hard rock built on top of blues in the best way possible. Led Zeppelin had an amazing career, and they were well on their way even with the first album. There's not a single dud on here. The original songs are excellent, and the covers are very well done. They show they can get heavy even with acoustic guitars. I would listen to this album any time.
This freshman effort launched Paige, Plant, Bonham and Jones into the stratosphere and they never looked back. The vocals, guitars and drums just flowed together like they had been doing it for years. So many iconic tunes from this album, only to be joined by so many more to follow on future albums. Zeppelin will always be the gold standard by which all other rock bands will be judged! Coming out of the gate this album rocks and just keeps on rolling!
great album, legendary rock
Great variety yet consistent sound throughout, not overly reliant on singles, every track shines.
The classic Led Zeppelin album. Not my favorite, but the foundational one. There are definetely some good songs in this one though.
this is a no skip album. it’s insane the musicianship on this record. john bonham had only been playing drums for 4 years at this point and he comes up with something like good times, bad times?? just insane. john bonham is one of my biggest influences, and dazed and confuses was one of the first songs i ever learned. been using bonham triplets ever since in my own playing. this album is just insanely good to break out onto the scene with.
#581. Led Zeppelin made some great records, and this is one of them. 5/5: fantastic
still a killer album even if it's not my #1 by them
I feel like after listening to this I finally "get" Led Zeppelin. Amazing guitar, the songs pull you in and toss you around and rise and rise and rise to a great guitar solo and screeching Plant vocals. "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" is my favorite.
Legend!
Is this the best debut album ever? A possible contender, great album despite all the thievery that went on here 4.5*
Scrum
One of the best debuts EVER! HAMMER OF THE GODS!!!!!!!
Finally after getting 2,3 and 4 we get to my personal favourite Led Zeppelin album. It might not be as boundary pushing as 2 or as perfect as 4 but there’s something else about this one that sticks in my mind. There are no skips on this album every song is incredible and the opener Good Times Bad Times might be my personal favourite song by the band tied with Fool in the Rain, Bonhams drumming on the intro is instantly memorable and every time I hop on the kit it’s usually one of the first things that I play, the bass work is stellar on this track. The vocals are powerful and soaring, the guitars are sweeping and sound absolutely massive across the record and the bass and drums are all time favourites of mine. Everything down to the album art is iconic and it’s easily a 5/5 for me.

1000/10
This album is awesome.
Of course the ethics surrounding the amount of stolen(?) music is a valid discussion topic, but for my purposes, it doesn't matter. I'm taking it all at face value. The weakest song on this album is better than many, many entire albums on this list. Led Zeppelin is one of my favorite bands because they have so many albums that are this consistently awesome all the way through. Can you imagine listening to Good Times Bad Times in 1969? The next "changing rock history" album was going to be Abbey Road, which wouldn't come out for almost a year. Yeah, the Beatles were changing music, but these guys were creating an entirely different sound. I would have loved to have been present for this era of music. Blazing guitar, wild vocals, and maybe rock's best rhythm section ever would have put the 1969 version of me in a fucking coma. Easy ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
"Oh, the humanity!"
One of the most powerful debuts.
Just rock and roll
I listened to this while walking to pub quiz. It was a good time.
One of my favourite albums of all time
Classic in Rock, impenetrable quality, easy 5-stars
Greatest band of all time. Unbelievable debut album.
Man, John Bonham really was a beast. Everything else was great too, but really listening to the drums this time around just solidifies it for me.
FUUUUCKKKKK YEAAAAHHHHHHH ROBERT PLANT MOAN MORE IN MY EARSSSSS
10 stars

Absolutely amazing. 5/5

Wow, Dazed and Confused is a tour de force
a true classic
5.0
👍🏻
A classic, of course. Can't go wrong with Led Zeppelin.
I've reached a point in my life were most classic rock has become overplayed and stale to me. However, I think this album still holds up pretty well. Some great tunes, amazing drumming and catchy memories. I really like some of the extended jam sections on this album. Mid 5.
Good
The first album of this great band shows their talent to arrange old blues classics but do that in a great studio mixing. Read up on that, very interesting. This album has many good tunes of the band with 'Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You' and 'Dazed and Confused' as my highlights.
<3
Say less. 5/5.
liked songs: all of them This might be the worst Led Zeppelin album. 4.5
5/5
Top 5 album of all time
Babe I’m Gonna Leave You

אלבום אגדי
I love Jimmy Page!! Leave him alone Robbie Williams!!!
Fuck yeah man, letting the led out
Top 20 album for me, the bluesnyness and hard rock really makes my penis turn into the big penis, what a beautiful intro to John bonham to the world
Amazing album. I've listened to it 100 times before and enjoy it everythime
It’s impossible to be objective here. I was a ‘Le wrong generation’ kid in high school as far as my musical tastes went, and Zep was my favorite at the time. I now know about how they were song thieves a lot of the time, but listening to this takes me 20 years back and it just feels good to recall a more innocent time for a few minutes.
It's Led zep. come on.
When I saw the artist, I had high expectations. They were filled.
Fucking flawless, one of the best debuts ever
This was always gonna be a 5, didn't need to listen to it. But I did, a few times, 'cuz it's an absolute banger. This is on top of watching "Becoming Led Zep" a few weeks ago, which is largely the story of how Zep 1 was created, and plays half the songs on the record in full. I'm that obsessed. First things first, "Good Times Bad Times" and especially the introduction thereto is one of the most incredible entrances in rock history. It is a Kool Aid Man-sized introduction. Which is fitting, because this CD is basically Zep rapidly advancing straight to what at the time was the frontier of rock music (which they'd blow past within a couple years). The huge guitar riff, Bonzo's amazing drumming, Plant's soaring vocals about becoming a man, it's all just a big fat "here we are, world". Every song on here is good, and a few moments are amazing. JPJ's mellotron intro to "Your Time Is Gonna Come" presages so much of what would eventually make Zep the band of the decade. Page has a number of classic riffs and solos, none better than on the opener. The band is incredibly tight, especially on display in the moments where they transition into rock mode, e.g. on "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" and "How Many More Times". And Plant just crushes every line, he's an incredible weapon at peak physical ability on here. So it's a five, it'd be a six if they had sixes. I'm gonna pick on the bits that kind of suck though. First, as a I mentioned, it's not quite past the frontier yet - there's a fair amount of by-the-numbers blues rock on here that, while it's still generally better (in some cases a lot better) than Cream and The Doors, is pretty much the same kind of stuff as Cream and The Doors. Second, and this is something I noticed more this time around, the tone is awfully misogynistic. Each of "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You", "Dazed and Confused", "Your Time is Gonna Come" and "How Many More Times" has really fairly explicitly misogynistic lyrics throughout, and the tone on all the other tracks (absent "Black Mountain Side", which doesn't have any words) hints in that direction, if less explicitly. These guys were in their early 20s at the time, and it was the 60s, we'll give them a pass just because the record is so amazing. And finally, what the documentary makes more clear is that Page was completely obsessed with how much smarter he was than everyone else. I've never liked the breakdown on "Dazed and Confused", just because it's dull, but seeing him on video really brought it home for me. When he's actually wanking with the violin bow, if I'd been there at his shows in 1969, I might've thrown a beer can. It's just dumb, and he thinks it's amazing. I'm not sure if he wrote the more vile lyrics on here or not, but I think he did, and you can kind of see all the pieces come together - the lack of quality-control starting with "Physical Graffiti", the mindless self-indulgence on later tracks, the allegations of plagiarism, it all kind of tracks. He's an incredible guitar player, a real innovator, and I've learned a lot of his parts, but you can tell this is a guy with his head firmly up his own ass. Whatever. 5 stars.
amazing
This album is canon. It is, regardless of our ultimate familiarity with each song, even to the point of feeling maybe some have been overplayed (probably a generational thing) it is a thing to behold. Led Zeppelin is one of the best bands in rock history and are at the head table by far and away. The album is essential to understand a bit of rock history and it is, despite its oversaturation on "classic rock" stations and the like, it is pretty amazing and important. It is canon and a must here for anyone who wants a comprehensive understanding of rock music.
It’s a classic. However, while it was groundbreaking in 1969, it was completely eclipsed for heaviness by Black Sabbath a year later. This album borrows heavily from the blues and there are complete rip offs here. If I am going to pull out a LZ album it would normally be 2,4 or Houses of the Holy. It still set the template for hard rock for years to come though so I still have to give it a 5.
LOVE LOVE LOVE
these guys were a disaster back in '37 when they blew up in new jersey
My favourite Led Zeppelin album.
This one kicks from moment one. This was a seminal album for me growing up. So hard for 1969. From Good Times Bad Times to the end everybody went full-throttle. there’s the ripoff accusations, but they took it to a different place just like all music.
this must have hit crazy style as a sexually repressed teen in 1969
An easy 5
An absolute classic. One of the greatest debut albums of all time.
Anything less would be disingenuous. Sure, half the tracks wear their welcome thin, and you have your plagiarism claims, valid or not. But at the end of the day this is a phenomenal debut from a top 2 all time band. Six 5star records in a row. Only the Beatles did that
Led Zeppelin, one of the ultimate rock bands of all time. All their works are great, now I understand why they are so hyped upto this day.
Fantastic 9/10 best song dazed and confused
Great album all around but man John Bonham really went off here. Dazed and Confused is an all timer
Amazing throughout. One of the great debuts.
Brilliant rock and blues record, the guitar and drums are amazing and soaring vocals to match.
Easy 5. I wish I had a Time Machine and could go back to 1969 and hear the opening notes of Good Times Bad Times and get irrationally excited for the future of this band.
9 tracks -- Side 1: 22:22 -- Side 2: 22:22 -- 44:44 -- Absolute Perfection
After a Dylan album that was mostly unknown to me, now we have a Zeppelin I am perhaps overly familiar with. To remedy this, and to understand their influences further, I put on the songs that Zep lovingly ripped off this time around, such as: Jake Holmes’ “Dazed and Confused” (shockingly close, for the first 30 seconds anyway), Joan Baez's "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" (which is surprisingly distant from Zep's version) & Willie Dixon’s “I Can’t Quit You Baby”. Even "How Many More Times", that bulldozer of a finale and one of my personal highlights, becomes Albert King/Booker T's "The Hunter" at one point. At the end of the day it's still one of my favourite albums from the 60s, because at least the 'stolen' tracks- especially "Dazed and Confused"- come into their own here. With the combined talents of the members, Led Zeppelin I goes much further than simply aping the blues, showcasing them at their most direct (god I love "Good Times Bad Times") and musically curious ("Dazed", the pipe organ in "Your Time Is Gonna Come")
This might be my favorite Led Zeppelin album, which is impressive considering it’s their debut. The bluesy vibe throughout gives it a raw, soulful edge that stands apart from much of their later work. A powerhouse start to their legendary career.
Okay, I agree that this is an album that everyone should hear. I dont know if its my favorite, but its a fucking amazing album. Hell, put the whole zep catalog up and replace some of the leonard cohen bullshit on this list. 5/5
There isn't one weak track on this album. The level of musicianship was "top of the charts". Lots of subtlety with the drum fills and bass lines that support the song. First listen, it all sounds pretty straightforward and direct. Really listen to what's going on between the four of them--and it's, "Game Over".
This is rock and roll! Everything about them is fantastic. And the drum bit on 'I Can't Quit You Baby' at minute three? So good
As much as I'd hate to admit it, I went into this album with some baggage. I had listened to some Led Zeppelin growing up, but mostly associated the band with my peers who fequented such phrases as "why don't they make music like this anymore" and other such "wrong-generationalisms. " Everyone I knew who listened to Zeppelin was a little TOO into Zeppelin. All that being said, even my salty hipster sensibilities can't find fault in this album. "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" was the standout track.
A legendary rock album. The vocals and guitars trading phrases, the drums going crazy, this album is a gem and would inspire generations of rock and metal to come.
Amazing
Great album, this proved that you can have a distinct sound and still have enough variety in your music to create a great album. Well done boys
So much blues! Really enjoyable and love the emotion in his voice.
Mto bom album, musicas leves, não enjoativas. Gostei muito
Such a milestone in music history, this album has influenced a lot of bands and when listening to it you understand why. 5 stars all the way!
Definitely in my desert island list. What a banger!
One of my favorite albums of all time.
the first of led zeppelin's self titled rock anthologies, after listening to the others it's nice to finally listen to the first one. what more needs to be said that's already been said about the others i've reviewed? there's a reason why these guys are talked about more than a half century later; their music was unlike any other when it was released, and it still holds itself as unique and groundbreaking today.
The best first album by any band, and one of the best albums ever.
Good
Straight from my youth!
Wow I needed this today. If I'm going to narrow down my taste in music it's not about genre, it's about high impact music. This is about as high impact as it gets in the rock genre with cinematic hooks played with a whole lot of groove. I gotta stop reading the reviews on this site because why are you even here listening to 1001 albums throughout time if you're going to write off older bands as "boomer music", especially when there's a successful band of teenagers ripping them off even today (I see you Greta Van Fleet). And yes they lifted melodies, interpolated, ect. from others but if we're all going to recognize the brilliance of Daft Punk are we really mad about Zeppelin? They took the good shit, turned it up to 11, and applied their own edge and sensibilities to it. And what a ride they take you on. From blues rock to early metal to acoustic guitar set to tabla percussion, you can't tell me these guys lacked originality. Zeppelin will remain, forever one of my all time best repeat listening experiences.
Led Zeppelin appears here on their debut album about as fully formed as a band can be about their sound and play. Now classic tunes that still influence bands.
I already got this album early on before I started listening in a group, and my opinion hasn’t changed. Absolute classic, defining rock as we know it.
1969. Rock. Blues Rock. Hard Rock. 10/10 Good Times Bad Times / Babe I'm Gonna Leave You / You Shook Me / Dazed and Confused / Your Time Is Gonna Come / Black Mountain Side / Communication Breakdown / I Can't Quit You Baby / How Many More Times
Great!
What an experience! To hear this in one go, on your best quality headphones, this blew my mind. Legendary, they were killing it, even on their debut album
One of my all time favorite rock albums. Feel like it has it all. Vocals, guitar riffs, the freakin harmonica on You Shook Me. Hell, the drums on Dazed and Confused alone are enough to carry this album to 5 stars.
This album was so ahead of its time. I love every second of it. Good Times Bad Times... What an opener.
I mean...C'mon, it's Zeppelin.
5- mastapiece
I love this album!!
1000% awesome
One of the best debut albums ever. Perfect blend of blues and rock.
I actually got stuck on this project because of this album. It caused me to go deep, deep down the Led Zeppelin rabbit hole. This isn't even their best album but it has some INCREDIBLE tracks. It has more of a jazz/old school rock feel to it, with many long songs that ramble and flow and is some of Zeppelin at their best.
So many good moments
Pretty classic album
Amazing debut album, punchy, bluesy . With even better to come. Loved this album.
FInnaly. The GOATS have made the list. 10/10
Led Zeppelin's debut album blends old-school blues grit with a volcanic sense of power. It’s like The Yardbirds turned up to 11 (I mean, c'mon), with even more fury and finesse. The rhythms are hypnotic, and the vocals cut through with sharp emotion. It’s bold, unrelenting, and timeless.
One of my top albums ever ever ever. Bangers only, truly. Not just a rock album, some soft touches on it.
might just be my fav zep album. tied with house of holy but babe i'm gonna leave you is an all timer and every song is just awesome.
Crazy good for a debut album
All time classic
I don't care what the neighbours say, I'm gonna give it a 5 each and every day.
Ok so at this point I’m just forgetting to do ratings and it’s auto rating them, so I think from now on I’m only gonna rate if it’s five stars and I’ll explicitly state I made the rating. Anyways, re-listen via streaming, five stars.
Bueh...no creo ser imparcial en mi nota. Son lo mejor de lo mejor, en este álbum y en aquel
Classic, its literally one of the greatest rock albums of all time and also one of the first, whats more to say?
I Honestly think about my wife's old boyfriend and how he made fun of her for listening to Led Zeppelin because it was ripping off old blues musicians, fuck that guy, this album rules. Always has always will. Loved it since I first heard it in my dads oldsmobile aurora growing up.
What can be said about Led Zeppelin that hasn't already been said for the past 50+ years? Robert Plant has not only one of the best voices in rock, but also one of the coolest. Jimmy Page is a legendary guitarist. John Bonham's drums are gut busting. I'd have to listen to all of their albums again to say if this is my favourite or not (off the top of my head, I believe that title belongs to one of the next three releases), but this is still damn good. A perfect blend of the times. Bluesy folk rock with a slight middle eastern flavour at times mixed in nicely with some very early glimpses of heavy metal. 'Good Times Bad Times' is a perfect opener. The opening lines from Robert Plant in 'Dazed and Confused' always gives me goosebumps along with the slightly psychedelic guitar. 'Communication Breakdown' is probably my favourite track. Amazing rhythm section, fantastic vocals, great riff and brilliant solo. A perfect rock song in two and a half minutes. As I've said previously, I prefer Led Zep when they write heavier songs over their more acoustic folk rock, and this album does that in abundance.
Can I give this 6 stars?
An album I have listened to millions of times but never gets old!! Has to be one of the best debut albums ever
The most classic of the classics
