Reviews (page 5 of 14)
In the days of my youth I used to listen to this album on repeat.
Already a big fan of the band, the genre and the album itself.
Babe I'm Gonna Listen to you again and again
awesome!
One of the greats for a reason. Excellent sound, classic.
Led Zep’s first album is the opening blast from one of the best hard rock bands ever. “Good Times Bad Times” may be the best opening track of any debut album in rock history. A great introduction (warning?) about what was in store. That said, “I” is not my favorite LZ album. Depending on the day, that’s either “II” or “Zoso” (IV). This one stays pretty close to the reworking of blues standards formula, but they sure do it well. I’ve said before that LZ is the greatest rock band. Not my favorite rock band, but up near my top. But from the music to the image and back to the music, they ruled the roost from 1969 through the 70’s. If you asked me to list the best Rock / Hard Rock albums of the classic rock period, this is an easy addition. 5/5
Thoughts posted in group chat. I always forget how banging this album is. Obvious bangers on here, babe I’m gonna leave you is one of my all time favorites, that’s some classic Zeppelin Jimmy Page picking. Love the bluesy your time is gonna come. Very good
69 must have been some incredible year. every track slapped so hard. love that Led Zeppelin thought they would be overshadowed at Woodstock '69 and didn't go. born too late I guess, I would have loved to see them perform live
Yes of course I like this. I also like Wolfmother , white stripes, and this sound I general just bangs. They noodles and posed but were very convincing. You know, for occasional listening only, you understand. Not everyday. ;-)
I was just looking at the liner notes to my copy of this album -Plant & Bonham were 21, Jones was 22 & Page was 23. Youngsters, really. I missed this album on release. The first I heard of Led Zeppelin was Whole Lotta Love, big hit off the second album. But I quickly tracked this one down. What can you say? They were great from the get-go. This is perhaps the bluesiest album they ever did. Side 1 is outstanding - every track a winner. Babe I’m Gonna Leave You a personal fave. Dazed And Confused a legendary track. Side 2 opens with Your Time Is Gonna Come - strange track - not sure what the massed chorus is all about, but then another four tracks of real gold - from the tabla-embellished Black Mountain Side to the relentless How Many More Times with a riff to die for. They sure hit the ground running. What a band.
Greg Kot wrote in Rolling Stone (2001) that "The cover of Led Zeppelin … shows the Hindenburg airship, in all its phallic glory, going down in flames. The image did a pretty good job of encapsulating the music inside: sex, catastrophe and things blowing up." And, indeed, this album delivers exactly what it says on the tin. It's a remarkable record in many ways: a bunch of (very) confident men in the early 20s blasting their way through a well-honed set. This was recorded quickly (Page claims in 36 hours of studio time) and brashly, live in the room with some over-dubbing, and all the mistakes left in. Page captured a great sound in the room, and Glyn Johns mixed it to show the power and immediacy of their performances. I am reminded of Jon Brion's distinction between songs and performance pieces (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_RsLDMeRj4 for an excerpt, or Sound Opinions episode #32, 2006, for the full interview). He cites Led Zeppelin as the best example of performances pieces: it's all about that specific performance by those specific musicians. And they are amazing musicians playing fantastic performances, but the songs here are either pretty basic (Communication Breakdown, or Good Times, Bad Times) or are covers (You Shook Me, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You or I Can't Quit You Baby. Page didn't always acknowledge when they were playing covers, which is pretty shady) or essentially plagiarized songs or arrangements (Dazed and Confused, or multiple lifts from Jeff Beck). So, compositionally, not an amazing album, but jeez they could play. And here, they are just laying it all out. When I was a young man living in share houses, we played a lot of "ancestor metal", including this album, a lot. Personally, Led Zep II was my favourite, but this is still a really great record, and I find it hard to critique. Led Zep are a cornerstone band for me. I know the criticisms (bombastic, risible lyrics, sexist, plagiarized), but I really enjoy listening to them. Five stars for awesomeness and classic status.
One of the defining albums of the sixties sneaks in near the end of the decade and blows the roof off the joint. Dynamic, propulsive, heavy.
Not the best Zeppelin album but it's really, really solid. Only complaint is not enough hobbits. 4 1/2 outta 5
Un fucking masterpiece
Spaced out at points, confident throughout. Generally I find Zeppelin to be better as a greatest hits band but this album definitely deserves its spot in the pantheon.
Omg! A true 5! This was one of the very first albums actually, a track, that I ever bought. That was truly a rock album. Classic early zeppelin with the wonderful, blues background. Really hard to beat. Give it a listen.
I do not need to listen to this album to know how to rate it. But I did anyway because I love it so much.
One of my favorite albums 5!
I have no way to prove this, but it's possible that Robert Plant has said the word "baby" more than any one else who has ever lived. 5/5 no notes
5 stars, without a single reservation. I listened to this twice on Thursday, once at work in headphones and then pretty loud at home on wax. I’ve already soliloquized on the merit of Led Zeppelin, so I’ll just summarize by saying that they’re the best ever. Ever ever. The blues numbers on this record are out of this world: “You Shook Me” and “I Can’t Quit You” are so much fun. Jimmy Page’s “Black Mountain Side” is an acoustic delight, and of course the radio staples “Good Times Bad Times” and “Communication Breakdown” are pure rock and roll. GTBT was my favorite Led Zeppelin song for a while. Ending it up with the Robert Plant’s amazing vocals on “How Many More Times,” a song with really cool structure. This album probably fits in my top 10 or 15 of all time. And this as a debut album!?!? So incredibly good.
It's been awhile. Used to listen to this soo much back in high school / college. Glad to give it another go. Love the guitar parts, pretty much how I learned how to play guitar so of course I love it. John Bonham is a beast, I could just listen to isolated drum tracks all day. Great album ,would recommend to everyone.
Silly good
I hadn't realised just how bluesy this album was - they obviously rocked, but the roots are plain to hear.
super sick killer drums Zep ftw
when me and logan were talking about rush we used led zeppelin as an example of music that we would be into at the time but it’s not that interesting nowadays i was completely wrong this album fucking rocks and it is absolutely insane that this came out in 1969 like what the hell man
Holy Fuck. Thiiiis is what I wasn’t allowed to listen to growing up and I have been deprived. Started out so strong that I’m only on the first two songs and writing my notes. This is what I want sex to feel like lmfaooo. There are parts of different songs that I have recognized being used/similar to other parts of some of my favorite songs. Vocals, instrumentals, this could be a 5 based on now the first 3 songs alone. You know I’m enjoying an album when I’m whipping my hair back and forth, attempting the vocals, and making the stank face. 5 stars.
Очень добротный блюз-рок альбом. Я понимаю, почему группа в США стала популярной. Смесь рок-музыки и классического кантри-блюза даёт ядрёную смесь.
Favorite Songs: Babe I'm gonna leave you Dazed and Confused Your Time is gonna come Black Mountain Side How many more times Holy moly, just like the other Led Zeppelin album I heard because of this list, this is a fucking banger. Sure, not every song is a 10/10 hit, but it's super interesting and goes through many different styles.
Kan ikke komme i tanke om et andet band der har udgivet to så gode plader samme år som Led Zeppelin I-II i 1969. Den her er bedst. Dazed and Confused top 10 60er nummer
Amazing debut album from a legendary band. 10/10 all the way through.
I have listened to Led Zeppelin before but never with this intention. They really are the best musicians, aren't they?
Is this the best debut album in rock and roll history? I mean - imagine the first track people hear from you is Good Times, Bad Times and then you just don't let off the gas the rest of the way. LZ forged their own sound, nailed it, and stayed true to it throughout their career. Definitely a must-listen.
think this might be my favourite I've heard of theirs so far (have listened but not in years). Never been big on Zeppelin (compared to most of their psycho fans) and this brought up my opinions on their music which is awesome cause I like liking things. This has not, however, changed my opinion that their musical career peaked with their first song
Mg
I mean what can I say, it's a classic. Fav'd two songs
Really like it! Can’t even imagine how crazy this was when it came other in 1969. The vocals and instrumentation are extraordinary. Never listened to the whole album. Was surprise at how sad some of the songs are lyrically.
Absolute monster of a debut
Led Zeppelin's debut album is insanely good for being their first album. Not a single bad song on the album. Highly influential and ahead of their time.
Maybe it's because I was 13 and just discovering my own tastes in music, and girls, when this album came out that I love it so much. Most of those memories are fuzzy around the edges but the music remains achingly clear and still goes straight to my head and heart. Now excuse me while I go flip the album over to listen to it again.
Flawless masterpiece, my favourite Led Zeppelin
This is not my favorite Led Zeppelin album, but it's still very good. "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" is one of my favorite songs of theirs. I give this a 4.5/5, but I'm rounding up.
Amazing album love every song
01) Good Times Bad Times - 9,5 02) Babe I'm Gonna Leave You - 10,0 03) You Shook Me - 10,0 04) Dazed And Confused - 10,0 05) Your Time Is Gonna Come - 10,0 06) Black Mountain Side - 10,0 07) Communication Breakdown - 9,5 08) I Can't Quit You Baby - 10,0 09) How Many More Times - 9,5 TOTAL: 9,83 (98/100)
has 2 of the best songs ever, saved some of the others on my 1st listen at least for now not the best perfect album but not far from it
RIFFS
Classic
One of my all time favourite albums!
Every Zeppelin album is 6/5
Simply a masterpiece. There's no filler on this and some major highs. Dazed and Confused remains an absolute banger.
blues guitar guitar guitar blues.
"What's that, one of those Led Zeppelins I've heard so much about?" Why yes it is. Led Zeppelin revolutionized rock music. The guitar riffs, the screaming vocals, the drums, bass, organ?! This eponymous album redefined rock and was a huge influence on generations of music to come.
Definite 5. Imagine a musical world without the influence of Led Zep? Doesn't bear thinking about! I could listen to this entire album over and over again. Love each track, but there are three standouts - Babe I'm gonna leave you; Dazed & Confused and Black Mountain side. A perfect 5 for a perfect album
pretty decent.
A masterpiece, one of the most incredible debut records of all times.
Väkevä.
All timer. Might be my favorite album ever.
Absolute perfection.
Amazing debut album.
Surprisingly good. I'm obsessed.
Love it always have
As much a blues album as a rock album, Led Zeppelin is an excellent addition to this list. It is surprising to see a group produce such a strong debut album. This legendary album really prophesized the legendary career these four british rockers would have over the upcoming years. This album was the first domino that culminated with a career that is admired and remembered not only by rockers of the day, but rockers of decades after and really music fans of all genres forever. A bluesy, rocky record which deserves nothing less than a 5 star. Fave songs: Babe, Im Gonna Leave You, Dazed and Confused, You Shook Me, and Good Times, Bad Times
5. God this album is amazing and it starts off one of the best bands ever made. One of the best first albums ever created.
Amazing
So iconic it defines the word “iconic”.
By God! The best. I'm talking the best.
Finally an album thats right up my street.
Faves: Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Dazed and Confused, Communication Breakdown
Muy guapo
amazing
Sheeeeeeeeeeeit!! 5 Stars baby without a doubt! LOVE Led Zeppelin! This was the second LZ album I owned. This one was a CD Got it while I was living with Brock and Matt. Actually maybe I had it before then. The first one was when I was a kid! It was a cassette It was Led Zeppelin IV. I remember driving around Pinesdale jammin to Stairway to Heaven. Good shit man. Arturo was just a little boy, I remember getting him to sing along :) Babe I'm Gonna Leave You is such a beautiful song the guitar the lyrics. Such an incredible band. The fucking troves of treasure they left the masses, is unparalleled. Oh man at the end of You Shook Me when Robert Plant and Jimmy Page go back and forth with vocals and guitar, echoing each other. So epic!! John Bonham on Dazed and Confused. His drumming is immaculate! Fuck the blues rock marriage in their style is so fucking awesome! Its a shame this album is only 44 min long. And just like that it's over. 5 stars!!
What an album, iconic
I enjoyed the dynamic between the singer and band.
(Swoon!) Led Zeppelin could play drivel like "Happy Hawaii" and it would be amazing. The call and response between Plant and Page on several tracks is awesome, especially on "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You". The fade out between "Dazed and Confused" and "Your Time is Gonna Come" is fantastic, and harkens back to a time when albums were listened to in their entirety on turntables. There were several points in the album where I thought to myself, "This is not a magical musical moment," and then seconds later, POW!!!! Page drops an amazing riff, and I apologize profusely for ever having doubted. "How Many More Times" isn't their best track here, but it does highlight the strengths of each member, and as the last song, it leaves the Listener wistfully looking forward to more. Because it ended all too soon.
fire
Among the best
What an amazing album. Hard to say it's not perfect
Still an classic
Perhaps the best example of an artist coming out fully formed. Greatest opening song from debut album ever.
Grote fan. Je hoort dat veel andere muziek hier inspiratie haalde.
A solid, classic album full of great songs.
Not much to be said. Superb.
Who doesn't love this album. Bluesy rock
absolute classic. love the album and can definitely hear how it's inspired other music
As a very petty person it is incredibly irritating that the bad was so young when they recorded this masterpiece.
The first self-titled album by Led Zeppelin is a true rock masterpiece. It's a must-listen for music enthusiasts. Jimmy Page's iconic guitar riffs and Robert Plant's unforgettable vocals make this album a classic. It's a cornerstone of rock music, and for me, Led Zeppelin remains one of my favorite bands, with this album among their best.
Very familiar with this album but this was a fun opportunity to listen as an academic exercise. Classic songs that still hold up.
Absolutely insane.
Great debut album
What a great album.
Have listened to this so many times. Amazing album. Some amazing guitar work, great tunes, great drumming. Some of the blues standards can get a bit boring though. Amazing production. When the songs take off they reallllly take off
One of the best debuts ever??!? Led Zeppelin was first met with abrasion by record labels as they were "too blues" to be commercial. Yeah... they were proven wrong very quick. So much power presented on this record. It can literally blow you away. So, light up a joint, turn this shit up, and sit back and let the music lift you.
Easily one of the greatest rock albums of all time. A must have for any road trip
Zeppelin is the best band ever.
a masterpiece
They be like "let me show you how I would have done your song" and get famous without giving them credit. Still one hell of an album!
Hadn't realised this album came out in '69. Feels like the sort of record that confirms the axis of rock and popular music had fundamentally shifted. Led Zeppelin is heavy, roaring and powerful. Sonically it shifts from bohemian and romantic to psycadhelic and spacey, and extremely confidently. Having never listened front to back before, the experience was remarkable. It's complex while remaining listening, ambitious but relatable. An album that rightly has a place on this list. I'd have gotten Page's hair to match this energy if I'd been around at the time.
Wat een album! Raggende gitaren, virtuoze over-the-top zang, en gewoon echt goede nummers. Prima diversiteit bovendien.
a masterpiece. especially considering that this album is a debut!
What's even the point of writing a comment here? It couldn't be more obvious how brilliant and impactful this album is.
One of the best debut albums ever
First zep album I ever listened to so has a special place
One of the best debut albums ever in the history of rock music, Led Zepplin introduced the world to the harder blues rock of the band with the same name. The album is a sonic blast right from the start but is never a one trick pony. Hard as hell songs such as Communication Breakdown co-exist with psychedelic blues like Dazed and Confused. At least four songs are staples of classic rock to this day. An amazing debut but only the start.
Solid
Phenomenal album start to finish. Always a go to for guaranteed enjoyment.
This is a masterpiece. The folksy, blues-ish sound mixed in with hard rock and Jimmy Page absolutely shredding is a treat to listen to. The matter of Led Zeppelin not properly crediting a lot of the original blues writers of these songs is well taken (even a song written for Muddy Waters originally!) but the performance here is still sublime and while plagiarism is certainly naughty, blues songs and ripping each other off is a tale as old as time. From what I can tell the royalties on “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You” have been back paid and Lee Dixon was properly credited from the beginning, so I have a clean conscience giving this 5 stars.
It really says something about a rock band from London in 1968 if a class of fourth grade boys from Missouri try to match their hairstyles forty years later. No, I’m not kidding. Led Zeppelin is without a doubt one of the greatest, most complete bands to ever grace the music scene, and their debut album is a case in point. “Good Times Bad Times” starts off with one of the most iconic guitar riffs of all time, and this riff alone may have helped vault the band to superstardom. The album quickly dives into the deep rock ballads that Led Zeppelin could pull off better than anybody else with “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You,” and foreshadows that they will be back with plenty of six-plus minute songs that build momentum the entire way. “Dazed and Confused” does not remind me of Matthew McConaughey leaning out a window whispering “alright, alright, alright,” but it does remind me of a careful dance between Robert Plant’s vocals and Jimmy Page’s guitar, and I’ll take that any day of the week. “Communication Breakdown” is one of the earliest rock songs (and definitely one of the earliest deep rock tracks) I knew, so I’m sure it was a hell of a time to see my musically challenged 10-year-old self try to act like I knew what was going on. In July 2018 my ‘08 Toyota Avalon was totaled in the Med Center at Main and Dryden, and at the time, I was of course glad that nobody was hurt. When asked if there was anything of value in the car, I did a once-over and grabbed everything I could see. I thought I had claimed everything, until I realized later on that I missed one crucial artifact. I had neglected to eject Led Zeppelin’s Mothership, the first CD I had ever bought, so it went to the junkyard with the rest of the car. To this day, that might be my favorite “Best Of” album of all time. I surely did not realize it in 2008, but somehow trying to emulate Led Zeppelin set the course for not only my favorite bands, but for the types of music and the types of art I love today and will love forevermore. You just can’t throw a Led Zeppelin record at me without expecting five stars in return.
A classic classic.
Dazed and confused would have to be one of the most menacing tracks ever recorded - also the way it then opens up into complete rock mayhem is something to behold. I've said once and I'll say it a thousand more times, 1969 is the pinnacle of music. No idea why it isn't talked about more as such a historic year - maybe it has been and I just haven't noticed.
Hard to be ‘super’ objective with this album, a staple in anyone’s personal collection. Each song seems to drop with character and emotion, be it vocals or strings. I’d be willing to bet it’s difficult to find someone who DOESNT enjoy listening to this.
Is there a better opening riff to an album than the opening seconds of "Good Times Bad Times"? The first half is of amazing high quality and really Zeppelin at their best. The second half is not quite as strong as the first but still very good. Just a great album and a debut album to boot
One of the best debut albums with one of the best opening songs.
Look I'm not a classic rock elitist or anything, but let's call it what it is; Led Zeppelin is the greatest band ever assembled. You can't have an honest conversation about the elite rock drummers without Joh Bonham. I'll go to bat every time for Robert Plant being on the Mount Rushmore of rock vocalists. And Jimmy Page, aside from being my favorite set of fingers to ever grace the fretboard (there's my bias), is one of the most significant musical innovators of the last century. Since the record was financed and produced by Page, he was able to showcase the creativity that would make his production as legendary as his chops. Pioneering natural reverb recording? Innovating reversed echos in 1969? Just another day at the office for this young gunslinger slapping together a record for his new band. IMO, LZ is at their best when their blues roots are out in full force, which is why this is my favorite Zeppelin album. Bonham is showing all the power and all the swag that makes his drumming so iconic. Plant is transcending space and time with his vocal lines. Page is letting the whole world know that he is much more that Jeff Beck's sidekick with a barrage of riffs and solos that will leave guitar players striving to wrap their heads and fingers around for the next 50 years(myself included). TLDR: This album is the shiz.
Maybe not the best Led Zeppelin album created, but “Your Time Is Gonna Come” is one of my favorite songs by them, and this is one hell of a debut album.
Look, I know all about how Zeppelin ripped off their predecessors on this album. I understand that virtually every track had already been written in some way or another, and due credit was never given to the artists who really wrote this music. I know about the troubled history of Page's dating habits, and the band's general attitude toward women. I KNOW. And that will always be a footnote tied to the history of this band, and should be. We should not throw away or excuse horrendous behavior just because "that's how it was back then." And I condemn the members of Led Zeppelin for doing some of things they did. But when Plant is screaming in the VERY back of the mix on Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, followed by that same moment at the front of the mix a few bars later, "I can hear it callin' me babe!" that kind of moment sticks with you. It stuck with me at 14 years old. The opening bass line on Good Times Bad Times when everyone drops out but Jones...that's pure euphoria. Dazed and Confused contains maybe the greatest bridge in a studio-recorded song ever (even better live at MSG. For god's sake please watch it). In my own small world of music appreciation, I can confidently say every track on this record is timeless. There are no skips, and that euphoria is on every song here. There is no argument that these four musicians had the best organic chemistry for a band possibly ever. Page was a master of tone, albeit a sloppy guitarist. But it worked. It was THE sound of Led Zeppelin. Bonham had thunderous chops that did so much more than drive the track. He was a god on the kit. Plant. Just. Fucking. Whaled. The raw vocals throughout this record have never been matched. Jones was the glue that kept all the ferocity and chaos together. Anyway, I like this one. 3 out of 5.
Led Zeppelin's hit rate is near mythical, and this debut record with a tracklist now reading like a best-of compilation is testament to that rock fact.
I don't think I can be unbiased with any review of this. I love it, that's it. I will always love it.
The debut by Led Zep with the iconic cover of the exploding Zeppelin would launch to the world the most talented musicians of the 60's-70's (wich mean of all times). This reccord was release in 1969 and was self producted and reccoreded very quickly, but in no way it mean that it is less good, quite the contrary. This album was a commercial a uge critical sucess, it is in almost all best album accolades since its relase and there is a reason why. Its accualy a very "simple" reccord, easy to listen and to enjoy, but with an extrem quality of songs, more bluesy or hard rock with 1 accoustic song. The best song are: You shook me, hard rock with an insanly good riff, rythm and solo, with plant powerfull voice, clearly the best song on the album (accualy a cover of Wiliie Dixon) Good times bad times: Probably the most famous song, the chorus is just magic, an Led Zeppelin classic riff that make a Led Zeppelin classic song How many more times, i don't think its possible to ear this song without having this bass line in mind, the archet solo is way more good and masterful than in Dazed and confused. Black mountain side, was a Yardbird song, no lyrics just accousitc guitar just good nothing more or less to say Dazed and Confused, the best version are the live one (the one in MSG, 1973) as the solo grew better and complexe with Page's improvisations. The others song are good, but they are not as good as those one, but still this reccord feel complete and unique, its the best introduction possible to Led Zep, but the following reccord will push the boundary between an legendray and god (satan some say) given Led Zeppelin musical mythologie. Anyway this album is a turning point in rock music, the begging of hard rock and the first steps to heavy metal, this album is raw, powerfull and take a genra to an other level.
A classic. Nothing to say really
Really phenomenal in every conceivable way really. Big contender for best ever debut album.
Insane as a debut album, while also not being one of their best imo. But I’m still not going to be that asshole that gives Zeppelin less than 5 stars.
My one wish is that Dazed and Confused was track 1. Would’ve been so iconic.
A classic debut from a classic band. Zep at their most bluesy, with their influences clear on their sleeves, it showcased how hard rock could become. Every song is outstanding, but How Many More Times is still an all time favorite.
I can’t believe “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You,” “You Shook Me” and “Dazed and Confused” are back-to-back-to-back. Just one epic blues scorcher after another. Insane. I love the following track sequencing: The bright 60’s singalong “Your Time is Gonna Come” which melds right into the Indian rhythms meet American folk of “Black Mountain Side” which abruptly ends and smashes directly into the killer heavy metal riff of “Communication Breakdown.” Inspired sequencing. This album is just pure sex blasting out the speakers. That blues guitar. Ugh. So good. Jimmy Page is incredible. So expressive. “How Many More Times” is such a fun closer. I love how the drums change up around 5:40. So cool. What a debut album! An absolute masterpiece.
What a crazy good debut. Going from "Good Times Bad Times" to start and then into "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" is such a great series of tracks to start your first album with. "Dazed and Confused" is one of the best Zeppelin tracks. I feel like it's universally loved by fans of the band and yet it's still underrated. I love the haunting riff and equally haunting vocals. Just another bang of an album by Zeppelin. It's eclectic, it's electric, it's magnetic, it's got everything.
Oh hell yes
A really fantastic album. A truly incredible debut. Good Times Bad Times remains one of their best songs. I don't think this is my favourite Led Zeppelin album but it's special in its own way for sure.
Amazing. They are the definition of rock ‘n’ roll band.
🎉
It goes, it's a banger, let's go let's goooo L.J. you can put notes here too I love you <3
classic
God-dayum! Led Zeppelin literally never misses
otru discu que parecen dos
Es Rock. Pd. Dazed and confused es fácilmente una de las mejores canciones del siglo XX
Great debit and Bonham was outta this world!
I had never heard of this band and went in very skeptical. Turns out this is album is an absolute masterpiece just hanging out there in the world without anyone really knowing about it. Complete hidden gem. 5 out 5, totally debating on listening to some of there other stuff.
First great album by and absolutely legendary band not much more needs to be said
Such a classic. Dazed and Confused, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, and I Can't Quit you Baby are standouts for me. What an insanely good debut album.
On vaan huikee, kova, käsittämätön. Alusta loppuun dimangia!
Very bluesy debut from the iconic led zeppelin. Laid foundations for rock music as we know it. Dazed and Confused and Communication Breakdown the highlights Has to be a 5/5, it’s Led fucking Zeppelin
A rock and roll classic
går aldri galt med led zeppelin
Classic/10
OG rockers. History may not see them fondly but without a doubt, the music rocks.
I think I mentioned this when we did the last Zeppelin album, but they were one of my first musical obsessions. And the first album is probably still my favorite. I understand the criticisms, most of them are valid, but it’s still so good. A
Real good!
Stunningly good debut album by a band that was pretty perfect out of the box, but somehow only got better with each successive album. This is pure, early Zeppelin. Long on blues and dripping with sex. Slow burning and ethereal one minute, raw and blistering the next. Not a bad song to be found. Fave Songs (All songs, from most to least favorite): Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Communication Breakdown, Dazed and Confused, Good Times Bad Times, How Many More Times, You Shook Me, Your Time Is Gonna Come, Black Mountain Side
Hundans intro på ett debutalbum.
Dunno that ive ever listened to this one. Great stuff
"Led Zeppelin" is the debut album by English rock band Led Zeppelin. The band was formed after the break-up of the Yardbirds and Jimmy Page formed the band to fulfill their remaining contract. The album recordings took place before Led Zeppelin was signed and Page fronted the money. He also produced the album. The album is a mixed of originals and remakes of blues and folk songs. The music itself is fusion of blues and rock. Believe it or not, the album initially received poor reviews but now is widely considered one of their best and an influential to the start to hard rock and heavy metal. It was a commercial success reaching the top ten in the UK and US charts. The debut single "Good Tmes, Bad Tmes" kicks things off. The guitar riff, bass drop and drumming. A catchy vocal chorus. Lead singer Robert Plant showcases his strong voice in the Anne Bredon cover "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You." The start, stop, start. The bass, the eerie guitar with echo, Robert Plant screaming "Soul of a woman was created below and John Bonham's drum start their classic "Dazed and Confused." This is actually a cover of sorts from a 1967 Jack Holmes' song. This drifts to the pyschedelic side and Page throws in using a violin bow. A showcase for all the members' talents and one of their best. John Paul Jones" organ opens "Your Time is Going to Come" and continues to be the highlight of the song. Another great vocal chorus. Jimmy Page's guitar riff rips through "Communication Breakdown." Bonhams' drums. This song totally rocks and is considered one of the first "heavy metal" songs." I always considered this their bluesy album (II has a lot of blues too). The album highlights the immense talent of each member and a good example of the sum being better than its parts (yeah, I know, overused cliché). I always give all Zeppelin albums at least an annual spin. I would put this in the #4 or #5 spot along with III in my Led Zeppelin album list.

10/10 - iconic
I used to listen to a lot of Led Zeppelin when I was in college, and when I did, I was more partial to IV and Houses of the Holy than I was to I and II. It's definitely been over 15 years since I last fired up this album. I don't know why I didn't like this album as much as IV or Houses of the Holy back in the day, but listening to this for the first time in so long was almost like experiencing it for the first time. This album perfectly utilizes elements of blues, hard rock, and folk to create one of the era's most unique sounds. Each track is absolutely fantastic, layered with complex sounds played by some of the best rock musicians of all time. The most impressive thing about this album to me, is that it's ambitious in its scope, but still manages to sound like a cohesive, singular body of work, as each track blends seamlessly into the next. I could probably write a paragraph about what I love about each track, but it's late, and I'm not good enough of a writer to make that worth anyone else's time. This album is fantastic from start to finish, and I'm so happy that I got to rediscover it today.
Incredible from start to finish. One of my favorite albums by my second favorite band of all-time. It's rock, folk, soul, and the beginnings of metal. And if I could emulate anyone's voice, it would be Robert Plant's - dude can wail! I ended up listening to hours of Zeppelin, as I often do when I feel like I need to a hard reset. Zeppelin is where my musical foundation lays, and everything else is built upon it. 5 perfect stars.
Easiest 5 I've given so far
Man i love led zeppelin. heard this one so many times, own this one on CD as well. led zeppelin is so many memories for me. a 9 year old me with my dad driving to the hospital to visit my pregnant mother at the time blasting an mp3 CD i bought at a fair for a buck. the CD was half side eric clapton's money and cigarettes and half of zeppelin's long songs like dazed and confused, stairway, since ive been loving you and babe im gonna leave you. still have the CD in the car, still listens to it in every chance i get. a few months ago i built with my friends a Rehearsal room in our school shelter. we put Acoustic tiles all over the walls and posters. we had to paint the walls of the entire room in black so me (A guitarist) , my friend (a drummer) and our singer ainted the whole room in 3 hours while listening to this album and trading stories all the time. i lost a good pair of pants that day because of that paint man. thank you led zeppelin for your legendery music and the memories. Led Zeppelin 1 is a perfect zeppelin album A perfect rock album A perfect debut album PERFECT. if you are reading this you are welcome to follow my band instegram page, check us out! https://www.instagram.com/pahimaband/
One of the greatest rock'n'roll albums of all time.
Detta tycker jag fortfarande är bra!
What a debut record. Flawless in execution with some of the greatest musicians playing together.
great album! good old school vibes, nice change from my daily work tunes.
Solid
Not my favourite album of theirs but a classic.
I was a bit hesitant to give this a 5, as for me it's very 50/50 between 4 and 5, but seeing the average level of this list, and the albums I gave 4 to, I feel like it would be quite unfair not to rate this a 5. Really feels like a timeless, all time classic, very good album.
One of the best debut albums i have ever encountered. The band is unbelievably tight and the album flows like water. The production and mastering (or remastering?) is flawless. The line between appropriation and inspiration is fine, especially with Zeppelin. But regardless of who should get the true credit, this albums rocks.
our second zeppelin in a row, and this is just as good. incredible for a debut album, it feels like the band just appeared fully formed with all their later trademarks. a great listen and an easy 5
What a beautiful first album bienvenue!!! Hello Mister Plant and Mister Page Jon Bonham forgive whoever I am forgetting. Off to a good start wahoo
Te vuela la peluca
Obra maestra indiscutible!
Probably the best debut album of all time, if not one of the best albums. You Shook Me the only track letting the side down. All the rest are 5* material.
COMMUNICAAAATION BREKADOWMNWNNNNN é uma bomba, o mais rock de verdade do zeppelin. meu favorito.
Man, I really wanna hate Led Zeppelin for being overplayed and for shamelessly stealing music from black blues musicians and for Jimmy Page raping a 13 year old girl, but this album is just so fucking good. This band really took blues rock to another fucking level. Fuck Jimmy Page.
Classic
Great
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
awesome
In general I prefer the late LZ albums, or at least that's what I thought. This really is a great Led Zeppelin album.
Loved it. Black Mountain Side is the only song I wasn’t a fan of.
Perfection, from the first note to the last. Pretty much every song is a timeless classic, with some all-time greats mixed in as well. Absolutely loved it; would give it 6 🌟 if I could! 5 🌟
Yup, still good. Standouts: Good Times Bad Times, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Dazed and Confused, Your Time Is Gonna Come, Communication Breakdown
So so good. It’s really hard to beat Led Zeppelin and they have such great songs that also contain a ton of variety. 9/10 only because this isn’t even their best album
A classic.
Peerless. Or it would be if it weren't for the other Led Zep albums. Anyway, it's brilliant - and one of the best starts to an album of all time..?
Possibly my favourite Led Zeppelin album, I really like the more bluesy style.
Just when i thought i lost hope in rock. Zeppelin shows that there are still good albums out there.
Awesome
Classic for boomers by boomers
One of my favorite albums. This band has a sound that I have not heard anywhere else, a nice mix of blues and rock. Some songs dragged a bit but there is little else to complain about. Pretty much a perfect album.
Classic.
What an album from the opening note of Good Times Bad Times through to the final notes of How Many More Times this album is fantastic. The driving rhythm section of JPJ and Bonham, Page's guitar Plant's vocals are spot on throughout. Listen to this and listen to it loud, your ears will thank you
Vive led zeppelin, mon band prefere 5.
I well remember purchasing this album in reel to reel format at the PX in Nurnberg, Germany while I was living there in 1969. I spent hours listening to it on my headphones as it played on my Sony TC530 tape deck. I also remember the battle that raged in court in Germany between the band and the offspring of Count Zeppelin over the band's use of the family name. A truly seminal recording by one of rock's legends and our introduction to the band and John Bonham's drumming.
What can I say I love this album, so many great songs and still sounds great.
A blues rock & roll album as strong as this as a debut; it’s hard to imagine. Plant sounds like he’s been at it for years with howls to match Page’s guitar and Bonham’s thunder. I don’t even consider myself a Led Zep fan, but damn, one has to at least recognize how great this record is.
Some really good songs on this one. A bit more scattered then some of their later albums. Still has that great big sound.
Blues, rock, great songs. One of the best debut albums of all time? Great album
Classic
Zeppelin finnst mér hafa elst svolítið misvel, en ja hérna, þetta er frábær plata. Ekki bara nostalgían sem ræður því mati. Þetta er í alvöru frábær plata.
Legendarisk blues rock. A true anthem
Wow. Yet another dad album. Pre Stairway Zeppy. I have listened to this Zepp album the most out of their entire discography by far just due to the fact that LZ1 was the only Zepp album my dad had in his car. I know these songs more than the rest of their catalog so I may be a little biased but here we go. I recall being something like 6 years old when I asked my dad if Jimmy Page was the greatest guitarist of all time. No joke this record is why I picked up the guitar. Wow. Buckle up, I’m writing about every song. Good Times, Bad Times. Banger. Bonham triplets out of the gate. Technique. JP making the tele scream. Good times, bad times. You know I’ve had my share. Babe I’m Gonna Leave You. BANGER. This was one of the first songs I ever downloaded on Kazaaa back in the day. That chorus is heavy as hell. SO sick. The slide that starts every measure. Shit, man. All of Page’s noodling throughout is hot heat as well. This song ends with that cowboy shit. Hell yes, brother. You Shook Me. I remember always thinking this song is way too damn slow. I still do. Sounds like Plant is covered in tar and is melting. Didn’t learn until much later that this was a cover. JPJ on the organ, killing it. Robby P comes in hot on that harmonica. Page comes in even hotter with that eeeeeelectric power. Plant and Page close it out with some excellent back and forth. Banger. Dazed and Confused. Banger! Legendary riff. Bonham’s drumming on full display. Spooky bridge part with JPJ casually grooving in the shadows. “Tink tink tink blam” here we go down the rollercoaster weeeee! How did they just show up and do this? HOW IS THIS THEIR FIRST RECORD? Your Time Is Gonna Come. Talk about a song that takes me back to a time and place like a familiar scent. Vivid memory of me and my dad pulling out of the Chevron on the corner of Sepulveda and Rosecrans setting out on a roadtrip. Perfect roadtrip music. I will be honest this song was just a big buildup for me to get stoked for Black Mountain Side. I knew damn well what the next track was and I still do. Black Mountain Side. This right here is the song that made me want to learn guitar. I remember being hypnotized by this lick. That lick combined with the percussion offered up by JB and one Viram Jasani always teleports me to some little temple in the middle of the jungle. 2:13 that just goes by in the blink of an eye. Communication Breakdown. BANGER. Rock and roll. Shred. Communication breakdown, dude. It’s always the same. This track laid the foundation for so much rock to come. I Can’t Quit You Baby. Another blues classic that I didn’t understand as a kid. But even though I thought of this as another song that needed the tempo to be doubled, I have always loved the way that Page makes the axe cry on this track. The imperfections. The sloppy steez. Good ol’ fashioned blues with Jimmy’s talent on full display. A 25 year old playing like a 75 year old blues veteran. How Many More Times. That intro. So cool. Rob has rings, pearls, and all. This song rocks. That march bit with the harmonized guitars? You kidding me? This track goes so many places. How in the hell was this their first album? The Hendrix shit that Page gets on for a minute there gives me goosebumps. Never realized how creepy the lyrics are at the end. And now it’s over. My trip down memory lane has finished. Stellar performance from the Johns the Jimmy and the Robert. JPJ with some groovy bass licks and organ highlights, Bonham with some career defining technique, Page with the financing for this album and just virtuosic guitar playing, and Plant rounding it all out with trademark vocals. This album is a classic. This album is full to the brim with legendary music that had stood the test of time. There is no record that takes me back to being a kid in Manhattan Beach more than LZ1. 6/5
The #1 song of 1969 was “Sugar Sugar” by the Archie’s. I know this not only because I looked it up, but also because I was 5 at the time; and we got a free copy of the single pressed into the back of a cereal box (which probably helped propel it to #1). You should definitely listen to Sugar Sugar, and THEN listen to Led Zeppelin’s debut album. It’s only then that you can appreciate the seismic, watershed event that was Zeppelin’s appearance on the musical stage in the context of music history. I loved the reviews in this group almost as much as this album. It’s always a delight when someone of my generation actually gets someone of the next generation to sit down and really listen to and appreciate Zeppelin (though I realize some in this group were more familiar than me). It’s just incredible musicianship. And to think that not only is this their debut album, one they recorded in only 36 hours of studio time, and they had only been together for a few months at that point. Robert Plant had just turned 20 and he sings with the confidence of a seasoned frontman. John Bonham is a generational talent. JPJ’s musicianship comes through in every song. Page is a MONSTER on the guitar - just drink in the solo after the heavy downbeat in Good Times Bad Times, and you get an idea of what set the world on fire. So wonderful to listen to this again. You can hear how some of their early music presages what is to come. For example, you can hear some Bron-y-aur Stomp in Black Mountain Side. I actually didn’t get into Zeppelin until I was in my early 20s. By the time I was growing up, they were fading out and known for smashing hotel rooms, drugs, and general excess. Then I listened to them and finally “got it”. It was about the music first. This early work brings that out. Just because the later work gets even better doesn’t make this any less than 10/5.
I mean what can you say? It’s Led Zeppelin. It’s their debut album. It’s through and through a brilliant, stunning, raucous blues rock debut and as significant an album as I can think of. I myself am more partial to their later stuff. Particularly that which moves away from the classic blues, hard-rock standard and into the realm of post-rock; especially Physical Graffiti cuts like “In The Light.” But there is something undeniably raw and special about the band’s first two albums. And at least once per year I find myself listening to the bands’s whole discography (or at last I through Graffiti) because it’s just that good. I woke up a little tired this morning, and frustrated I had to work. But Good Times Bad Times perked me up and got me moving. It was an all Led Zeppelin kind of day. :)
Wow. I get what all the fuss is about. This is the kind of album that 1001 Albums was made for... an album that you might have some ambient awareness of, that you might think, abstractly, "that sounds like it would be good," but never actually gave it your ears. This is the first time I've ever properly sat with a Led Zeppelin album, and I've gotta say... it was pretty unforgettable. I was taken from basically the first moment of the first song. So many things were clicking for me... Robert Plant's feverish, skrelt-y vocals that immediately recall a half dozen other singers so clearly indebted to his sound, the drums (the drums!!) and how creative the fills were, the inventive ways they're re-interpreting blues records... I really, really got it. It was like a lightbulb moment... ah, so that's why every late 60's band and their mother was trying to make this kind of music. They were all listening to Zeppelin! I was really on the edge between 4 and 5 here. Truth be told, I spent the next several hours mainlining as much of Led Zeppelin's next 3 albums into my ears as I could, and what I heard was... insane! So now I know where the story goes with this band. I know how they rapidly evolve, how some of the best music they ever did is yet to come. But for introducing me (and the world at the time) to such a bold, intense, sexually-charged-guitar-solo sound, I have to give the album high marks for sending me in a tailspin. With so many albums to get through, it's rare to have an instant conversion experience. A well-deserved 5/5
The idea of being like "hey let's check out this new band" and hearing this album for the first time is fucking insane. One of the strongest debuts of all time.
Favorite tracks: good times bad times, your time is gonna come, black mountain side (instrumental) Least favorite track: babe I'm gonna leave you
Just short of their absolute best for me but it has one of my favorite songs in "Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You."
already like this a lot more than the sex pistols album - soooo good. i think i like that you can discern what the words are in this album along w the sick rock. you shook me is SO good. very sexy communication breakdown is sick really appreciate that the song ended on an 8 minute song, great wrap up.
One of the best debut albums of any era
I like to think of this as Led Zeppelin Greatest Hits Vol. 1
Phenomenal debut album.
A slapper of the album. Your time is gonna come is a very under rated song.
I mean, 2/4 of the best songs were stolen, but the other 2 were Zeppelin originals, and they all absolutely slap. I'm also pretty sure Bonham blew everyone's faces off with the intro to the first song alone
Iconic
This is their best, one of my top 10 favorite albums ever. Easy 5! T3B 1. Babe I’m Gonna Leave You 2. Dazed and Confused 3. Your Time Is Gonna Come
Woah. Looks like I got the perfect firecracker this new year!
Een legendarisch album, goede gevarieerde songs. Van rustig naar stevig piekfijn
****** - 6 stars
One of the best rock debuts. Strong front beginning to end, must listen
Epic debut album
Well what can be said. One of the greatest debut albums of all time. Every song is a classic, thought the Willie Dixon cover You Shook Me is one I can skip over but everything else is just classic Zeppelin. There's even a nod to the middle eastern influence that would become more pronounced later in their career. A no brainer 5 star album.
This is one of the best debut albums there are. They did a tremendous job of immediately setting themselves apart from the rest of the rock scene at the time. Even though it's their first album together, all band members played in perfect harmony with one another; allowing each other to shine in their respective areas of musical expertise. While they are known for being a heavier band, they deliver beautiful soft songs that let you know they have range and talent. I love this album and it always leaves me wanting more. 5/5
zep!
great album
Yes! More of this
Right at the roots of rock. Wild and amazing!
So I like one of my favorite bands? Of fucking course
Quality debut album.
кажется мне понравилось вопросов не имею очень хорошо :))))
Absolument une dinguerie, Babe I'm Gonna leave you c'est un banger intersidéral, la cover est incroyable, vraiment que du bon laaaa
Led zeppelin keeps surprising and entertain me! Each song have a different touch, a different genre almost... But always well executed. Keeps you wanting for more song even when the album is over. 5/5
Outstanding
Fuckin great
Man, they sure came out of the gate swinging, didn't they?
Most amazing first album. Classic right out of the gates.
This is the cleanest five stars I've given so far. This album is fucking stuff of legends.
5. Superb from start to finish, amazing how well it holds up. Interesting how diverse some of the tracks are. Standouts: most! Good Times Bad Times, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, You Shook Me, Dazed and Confused, Your Time Is Gonna Come, Black Mountain Side, Communication Breakdown, How Many More Times.
What a treat to the ears
Magnificent. Prime cuts: Good Times Bad Times, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, How Many More Times
Dad rock pur sang. I never gave them a *good* listen, so I'm glad I did now, because I have underrated it.
- First listen to this album - Better than other Led Zep albums I've listened to, and I've liked all of theirs that I've heard - Every song is great - 1st 5* I'm giving to a first listen - Fav songs: Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Good Times Bad Times, Dazed and Confused
Fantastic debut rock album
Brings back memories of wild nights in my formative years. Black jeans, long hair and cheap beer. Makes me feel all dirty in a good way
5 Classic
4.5
Wonderful
LZ come out of the blocks running. Stealing poor old bluesmens' songs for yourself has never sounded so good. Best Tracks: Good Times Bad Times; Dazed and Confused; Communication Breakdown
It is, perhaps, the most appropriate introduction of perhaps the four most important contributors to the rock genre of the upcoming decade. Whereas John, Paul, George and Ringo were winding down, Robert, Jimmy, John Paul and John usurped the mantle and, along the way, became the standard bearers of a multitude of genres that would be refined and perfected; at times by them too. This is where it all begins and what all the fuss is about. A perfect blend of blues, hard rock and folk that caused an explosion not unlike one on the album cover. Tremendous!
Uma das minhas bandas favoritas e um dos melhores álbuns de estreia que já ouvi! Perfeição! Melhores músicas: Babe I'm Gonna Leave You e I Can't quit you baby
I love Zep, but this is not my favorite album. It's basically a cover album of their favorite blues songs. But the raw energy they bring to every track was a hell of a signal as to what was to come.
Absolutely brilliant. One of the best ever.
Not chumbawumba but as close as it gets
Great
Amazing.
Heel dik natuurlijk
Stone Cold Classic
The beginning
GOAT
Classic through and through. Not a bad track on there.
One's 17-year-old self is delighted that this record still sounds as good as it does and one's current mid-50s self is surprised to have enjoyed it so much. The openers on each side are powerful starts. The range of guitar – the massive, jagged soloing to the slide whooshes to full-on folk pastoralism – are as impossibly broad. The singing is over the top when its not under the moon – Plant was the best of all the late '60s-to-early-'70s singer-screamers. Easily one of the highest-impact debuts of history.
First one of 1001 nights, great start!
GOATED album
So much of todays music in there. King gizzard Tame impala drums The fucking 60’s man, would blow my mind
Thumbs up
Been a while since I listened through this album. Glad we had time apart because it allowed me to appreciate this album. Intricate and powerful sounds. Evokes a lot of emotion.
Not a whole lot of songs. I'm gonna leave you baby is my favorite but every track is a banger. Perfect record, wish it was longer.
Caveat - spotify provides remastered versions of the tracks (from 1990 or 1993). One of the greatest first albums ever, from one of the greatest bands ever. The start of a musical migration that originated with this very clearly blues influenced recording and that ended with some of the greatest rock ever produced. I simply can not find anything to criticise, yes Plant's voice can be a little screechy or shouty at times, but this fits the music. The songs are not as polished as later works but the execution is as virtuoso as ever
This is a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Album. Imagine sitting in your bedroom, sneakily smoking a joint, listening to "Dazed and Confused" for the first time ever back in 1969. Mind blowing. There is not a bad apple in the bunch. This is meant to be listened to from beginning to end. Many of these songs are in a daily rotation of mine.
Classic.
never actually sat and listend to Zep, but I have been missing out
Album opens with a bang and is great the whole time. The musicians are talented and they know how to work together
Led Zeppelin's first album is not only one of the greatest debuts of all time, but a perfect statement of what to expect from the band in the future. Through songs like 'Dazed and Confused,' 'Black Mountain Side,' 'Communication Breakdown,' and 'Your Time is Gonna Come,' the band showed that they were capable of longer ponderous exploratory songs, songs that experimented with eastern motifs, songs that exemplified hard rock, and songs that incorporated strains of Americana and traditional instrumentation. It's an incredibly enjoyable, varied, but cohesive album from one of the greatest rock bands of all time.
10
I'm trying to look at albums I've lived and loved with fresh eyes. Nope, that doesn't work Led Zep debut. 1969. Tunes, hooks, Page, Bonham, energy. It is brilliant. Timeless. Essential. Classic. Solid 5.
Really good. Once or 2 songs towards the end of the album I liked that I'd never heard.
From the infectious drum beat beginning of good times, bad times, to the lament of babe I'm going to leave you, this album has some of the hardest blues rock and some of the bluesy ist hard rock.
The album that changed rock forever, fusing blues rock with a polished alternating heavy metal and folk sound, shifting away from the chaotic garage style of their acid rock predecessors. The mixing and overall production work are fantastic, especially for 1969. You can hear everyone clearly. I've already complimented LZ in my other 3 reviews thus far so I won't reiterate, but that doesn't change that these are 4 of the most talented musicians in music history demonstrating pure talent. Only 9 tracks, with 6 of them being either perfect or close to it. "Good Times Bad Times" is an insanely strong opener, with an iconic buildup and short but catchy melody. Next three are masterpieces blowing people away with what this band is capable of. I can't believe they wrote "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" so early in their careers, my favorite use of the mystical acoustic and sudden jumps. Loving the faithful rootsy organ and harmonica in the blues "You Shook Me". What appears to be gimmick tracks turn into rock staples with how well-produced and structured they are despite their unusually long runtimes. Personally "Dazed and Confused" is a candidate for one of the best songs of all time, innovative and clever, carrying the feelings of paranoia through stages of isolation and busyness. Second side opens with the organ on "Your Time is Gonna Come," another folk track with a gospel chorus. Is that the steel guitar making that high-pitched tropical noise? Doubtful if Page is already on the acoustics. We get a sudden transition into the short raga instrumental track "Black Mountain Side," a bit sharp but fits with the psychedelic vibe. We get another sudden sharp transition into the loud and rampant "Communication Breakdown." It's a fun energetic track to rock to, in a lot of ways proto-punk, probably the most simple but also the most refined. "I Can't Quit You Baby" is our second full blues track, this time much more faithful to the original formula except harder. Finally, we end with my second favorite: the long and rhythmic "How Many More Times." Huge fan of the bursts of the drums with the satisfying reliefs. Has a bridge halfway through with a hazy and distressing atmosphere before returning to the original structure and ending with a wild and memorable finish.
Classic
Bias upfront: one of my all-time favorite and one of my most-listened-to bands in the rock genre. I know they were all seasoned, professional musicians by the time they formed this band, but it's still remarkable to me as a rock group's debut album. I love this little intro bit from the Wikipedia article: "[The album] contains a mix of original material worked out in the first rehearsals, and remakes and rearrangements of contemporary blues and folk songs. The sessions took place before the group had secured a recording contract and totalled 36 hours; they were paid for directly by Jimmy Page, the group's founder, leader and guitarist, and Led Zeppelin's manager Peter Grant and cost £1,782 (equivalent to £31,203 in 2021) to complete. They were produced by Page, who as a musician was joined by band members Robert Plant (lead vocals, harmonica), John Paul Jones (bass, keyboards), and John Bonham (drums)." 36 hours, and pretty much paid for and orchestrated entirely by Page. For those who know the story of Boston's debut album, you know it's a lot like the story of Boston's debut album, although that one was even more bootstrapped and cobbled together by Tom Scholz. Superb, iconic, timeless album to my humble ears. Rock on, my fellow travellers!
A banger
There's a few things going through my mind for rating this album. Going to take a star off for basically stealing every song and claiming credits Going to put an extra star on because these versions are truly the best versions of these songs Going to take a star off for the song "You Shook Me" Going to have to put 2 stars extra on for the raw and rocking "Babe I'm gonna leave you" Going to take a star off for cringy lyrics like “Every day I work so hard, bringin' home my hard-earned pay/ Try and love you baby but you push me away,” Giving a star back for this being their debut. All in all, this is freaking rocking. The songwriting of Zeppelin definitely became better over time, but never was it this raw, blues and energetic.
Good shit
Astonishing first album
Definitely my favorite so far compared to II and IV. 10/10
One of the greatest albums of all time. Revolutionary. Each song on this is a favorite of mine. I have a very deep love for this record.
Masterpiece!
It's Led Zeppelin. What isn't to like?
p174, 1969. 5 stars. 60's tail end classic. White man blues meets heavy rock with a garnish of folk, and world domination ensues. I'm still not a fan of Robert Plant's voice, but here it hasn't evolved into the hysterical shriek of later years. Bonham and Jones are on top form, and Jimmy Page seems quite a good guitarist.
Great album, full of swagger and bluesy tinged rock riffs
ein god klassiker
Babe babe babe [...] babe babe babe babe I'm gonna leave you
do i even have to say 5 stars?
How can any other band compete?
My ears were pleased with this selection of delightful sounds
That was good.
Discazo incomparable de uno de los grupos más grandes del mundo del rock. Excelentes melodías, acordes y conjunción.
crazy album to start your music career with
I Can´t Quit You Baby: Sonido coqueto de guitarra, lento y provocador, me gusta. Sin duda, el vocalista lo mejor hasta ahora (Robert Plant que bueno que eras), mejor dicho toda la banda es excelente. How Many More Times: UFFF que buen riff al inicio.
Yes
