Outstanding album with classic Led Zeps sound.

ITS SO GOOD

Incredible album. Favorite song is Babe I’m Gonna Leave You. Least favorite, but still good, heavy blues influenced songs You Shook Me and Can’t Quit You Baby.

Classic I have this album on vinyl. Favorites: Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You, How Many More Times, Dazed and Confused

Another great debut. This one is an oddity in their catalog, it’s all more psychedelic than their later albums and rawer sounding.

Really very classic. It's hard to get any more classic than Led Zep I. I mean, it's not the album I reach for first if I'm thinking about Led Zeppelin. It's more likely I'll put on Led Zep II or Houses of the Holy or Physical Graffiti. Led Zep I has some cracking tunes on it but there's something about the sound of it that feels a bit old and tinny compared to the subsequent albums. It's a bit like Metallica's Kill Em All - great songs, but bad sound - but not to the same degree. Anyway, am I going to mark down Led Zep I a star because there are other Led Zep albums I prefer? No way! It's a classic!

Just incredible….

Raw, driving, energy, iconic and timeless

The opening itself is 5 stars

Steal from everyone to craft the perfect rock album.

Perfection

Day324 - fifty-five years and still sounds amazing

It's been a minute since I listened to this album from start to finish. Absolutely outrageous tracklist. Never forget

Love some Led Zeppelin!

Just a wonderful bluesy rockathon absolutely packed with great songs...

Not every song is fabulous, and some are even a little rough. But what a fantastic debut. The Page/Bonham combination at its best was as good as it gets.

This is one of my top albums. I didn’t buy it on release but probably like a lot more after the more commercial Led Zep 2 album (I refer to my review on 29\7\24 of that masterpiece) I quickly added it to my collection. I am almost certain that I bought this on my way home from Wakefield after my first job interview. As when I play the album it takes me back to standing suited and booted in Georges Square, Halifax waiting for a bus home so I could play the record asap. This is a lot more bluesy than their second album so has a young lad it took me a bit longer to get into it. But when it did if push came to shove I would say that this is their best album. There may better songs on later albums but has a collection of good songs from start to finish this album takes it. There just isn’t a bad song on it. If I were to pick a track above them all then How Many More Times would top the list. I love the pounding riff throughout and for me Jimmy Page’s guitar solo prior to “I was a young man, I couldn’t resist” is one of the best ever guitar moments for me. The way it returns to the mighty riff by way of “Cos I’ve got you in the sights of my gun”- is something to behold and an hair standing on the back of your head moment. This is an album I still play a lot. I see that younger reviewers describe the album as Dad Rock which I can see but I feel so sorry for these youngsters that they were not about at this time to witness and experience the excitement of this and dozens of other masterpiece albums released at this time. If they had have been then they would truly appreciate and cherish this record. 5/5 16/11/24

Classic!

With the talent in this band it is always 5 stars or A.

Listened while driving home and literally liked every single song so I risked my life for this. I was gonna say I liked a certain song but I liked all of them. I looooove the part of you shook me where he sings then the guitar answers like they're having a conversation, so sick.

Eric Clapton can suck it

10/10. Right off the bat, if it's a Led Zeppelin album, it automatically warrants five stars. I bloody love (LOVE) Led Zeppelin!!! This is one of the best debut albums of all time! This album features the song "Dazed and Confused", which is among the very few pre-Sabbath metal songs. As a cover, it does a LOT of justice!!! Robert Plant's vocals are incredible on the album, and so are all of the dynamics. Led Zeppelin reigned in the 1970's and the late 1960's, and this album makes it very clear as to why that happened. :)

Not my favorite album from led zeppelin but is an absolute masterpiece

Zeppelin is pretty central to my youth. From the early ages of consciousness until I became an adult they were always present. And yet for all I was aware of them I was never a collector of their albums. They weren’t my preference despite my knowing so many of their songs. Not until you wade through so much other truly bad music on this list so you really appreciate just how talented they are, how rich and varied the music is, and awesome the songs are. Legend.

A duel of passions Soaring vocals belted out And guitar aflame

Fantastic album

Fabulous

I have to get this off my chest: Led Zeppelin is one of those bands that I never really seemed to love. They’re one of those artists that get celebrated to the Moon and back, but I just can’t seem to love their work. It’s probably due to every classic rock radio station playing their songs over and over again, and making me fatigued. Honestly, I was prepared to give a ok review of this album at best. But then something happened: it clicked. I think it might have to do with the fact that I don’t recall hearing any of the these songs before. The only familiar one is Dazed and Confused, and I actually like that song, so I didn’t mind hearing that again. Other than that, it was a fresh experience and it helped me grasp as to why Led Zeppelin is so well-beloved by every classic rock radio do in existence. Babe I’m Gonna Leave You is a fucking beautiful song, You’re Time is Gonna Come is a great gospel tune about a dishonest woman, and Black Mountain Side is short, but hella sweet folk. Robert Plant comes right of the gates swinging with his iconic vocals, sometimes sounding like he’s climaxing more than singing. But he gives the songs his distinct touch, which is vital for an album full of blues covers. This has to be one of the best debuts for a band, as it quickly established Led Zeppelin as a rock mainstay. I can’t say if the other Led Zeppelin albums will completely change my opinion of the band, but I think it’s a miracle I liked it this much. Favorite track: Babe I’m Gonna Leave You Other hits: Dazed and Confused, Black Mountain Side, Your Time Is Gonna Come, Communication Breakdown, Good Times Bad Times

No words can express how much I love this album

If you know, you know.

Great album! Drummer is amazing! Rhythm and guitar work is excellent. Experimentation in sound effects adds an otherworldly dimension. It checks so many boxes from blues, rock and metal.

Didn’t think I really like Led Zeppelin turns out really enjoyed this album.

More of a 4.5 cause the last couple songs aren’t as good, but everything else here slaps

Theft is good actually.

I like this album because from the first two songs you get two of the most Led songs that have ever Zeppelin'd. It's pretty amazing that this band came out the gun with such a unique style and performed and executed at such a high level. These guys were experimenting but there's no feeling of experimentation. It's all so expertly done, not like it's been rehearsed and perfected, but done like an old man who's been doing it for decades. There's an instinct to Led Zeppelin that they just seem to know what notes to play and the timing of everything is flawless. This album is epic, birth of a new era of rock and roll. There's so much going on and it all rolls together, hard rock, eerie blues, psychedelic atmosphere, signature attacking percussion, and Plant's vocals always hit their mark. As a debut album this is the lightning bolt that starts the forest fire, and few if any measure up to the standard of innovation and quality.

Another English boy band that stole songs. They do have some bangers though.

It's hard to say anything that hasn't already been said about this album but I'll give it a whirl. It's a masterwork; a completely unique sound in the rock world that very few have been able to really replicate. My favorite bit about zeppelin, especially the early stuff, is that everything sounds like it's barely in time yet is perfectly in time, every time. The drumming in particular can sound like rocks being thrown at the kit and yet every rock is hitting the heads at exactly the right time. The same goes for every other instrument, even the voice, but it's so apparent in Bonham's drumming. There are a lot more bluesy songs on this album than there are in later zep works; depends on if you like blues guitar if that would be a good or bad thing. There's nothing very innovative about "You Shook Me" for example, except the fact that it's them playing it, which gives it a whole new feel. These are all vague platitudes, but it's hard to explain. The solo, for example, isn't a blues solo, it's a rock solo in a blues song and does it ever work. The biggest complaint I have about this album is that "How Many More Times" goes on for too long without a really interesting bit in the whole thing. Sort of related, but "I can't quit you baby" is just a basic blues song without the same greatness as "You Shook Me" has. You can do better boys. Other than that, it's a brilliant album. I’ve given much lesser stuff 4s so 5 it is.

Started it thinking, “ah, I see where this will go as they develop through their albums” - but it happens across this album! Rolling Stones / The Who musical world in the beginning, then blues influence, then HELLO high tenor vocal. Can see why it stands the test of time!

This shit will always slap

I feel like in some way, I manifested the appearance of this. Mentioning Led Zeppelin in the review yesterday must have convinced the universe it was time for another record. Thank god I did not have to wait so long for the next one. Because I always get so excited when just about anything regarding this band comes up. I think I spent enough time gushing in my Physical Graffiti review where it isn’t really necessary here. Bottom line is my opinion on this band has not changed. In fact, sometimes I forget just how good they really are, and once it comes back to me, it’s all the more satisfying. Few groups in the history of rock have hit the scene with as much fiery energy and ambition as these gentlemen did. They were basically a supergroup, considering the members’ history with Yardbirds and Band of Joy. But they would quickly become something much more monumental than any supergroup to ever exist. Many would label this as the best work the band ever created, which I don’t see as unreasonable in the slightest. Aside from maybe their last two or three records, every album they made could qualify as their best. This is their bluesiest by a long shot. I just find it shocking how good they were from the very start. The version of me in my first semester of sophomore year was not at all ready for what this album would do for my brain. I can’t fully explain how the triplet kicks on Good Times Bad Times have affected me personally, but it’s something otherworldly. Each member immediately presents themselves as an all-star in their individual category. Some of their rawest and most explosive material, like Dazed and Confused and How Many More Times, can be found here. They also refused to ever perform Babe I’m Gonna Leave You live because Jimmy Page hated his vocal performance. Which I find funny because it’s one of the best he ever gave. Also a small aspect of their music that often gets overshadowed by his amazing bass playing is Jones’ organ bits. It really elevates I Can’t Quit You Baby to the next level. I’ll admit that I’m not a huge fan of how abruptly some of these songs end. And Plant’s lyricism doesn’t really reach the heights it would later on down the line. I think it’s more interesting to contemplate on what rock as an entity would be like if these four men never came along and put something like this together. People can have their opinions on how original what they wrote actually is, but this record, and the five that came after it, forever changed the way the world perceived hard rock. Rating: 9/10

East 5/5. Phenomenal debut album by one of the best bands to ever do it

Not bad, for the 70s

Volle Punktzahl vom Boomer.

Broke the led out

Absolute banger

Fantastic musicianship, wonderful composition, great vocals. There is a multitude of reasons they are considered one of the very best rock and roll bands of all time.

Awesome that they were only 20, 22, 22, and 24 when they did this. I didn’t realize some of these were covers or interpretations. But their signature rocking blues sound was there from the very beginning. Great stuff.

There’s a lot of goodness here, but what really stands out above everything else is the intensity and quality of the drumming. Guess that’s an obvious statement, but Bonzo was a monster. A few weaker tunes too but I’ll round up to 5.

The popular formula in England in this, the aftermath era of such successful British bluesmen as Cream and John Mayall, seems to be: add, to an excellent guitarist who, since leaving the Yardbirds and/or Mayall, has become a minor musical deity, a competent rhythm section and pretty soul-belter who can do a good spade imitation. The latest of the British blues groups so conceived offers little that its twin, the Jeff Beck Group, didn’t say as well or better three months ago, and the excesses of the Beck group’s Truth album (most notably its self-indulgence and restrictedness), are fully in evidence on Led Zeppelin‘s debut album. - John Mendelsohn, Rolling Stone 1969 Some music critics miss the mark. Here is a good example. This album rips and rocks unmerciful.

Might change later once we have other albums to compare to

This is great. It's not their best, but it's an easy 5.2 stars. I am hugely biased of course by listening to this album a lot and knowing it all and enjoying it by not needing to focus on it. How would this score change if I was listening fresh? Maybe it would be 4*s?

5 stars

Even though it’s not my favorite album by Zeppelin, I find it essential. And certainly, anybody interested in tracing the history of hard rock would want to understand the incredible influence this album and this band had on future purveyors of the “dark arts” of heavy metal. https://open.substack.com/pub/richcain/p/project-1001-led-zeppelin-by-led?r=4ztyq&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

Really enjoyable, not sure why I never got into them at the time.

Before I knew it, the album was over. Looking at the spotify plays, I found Your Time Is Gonna Come to be very underrated. Loved the organ. A classic.

What a debut. Madness!

Amazing album (1)

Amazing first album the gave hints of what was to come. Amazing electrified blues rock with some folk added in. Great guitar heavy production, impeccable playing by all.

This debut is raw and rowdy Led Zeppelin. I thought I didn't love LZ, but this album rocks. I really see the big blues influence. Some songs even reminded me of the White Stripes work. Best Songs: Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Dazed and Confused, Black Mountain Side, Communication Breakdown Worst Songs: NA

When the worst song in your album is Black Mountain Side you know it meant something.

A mighty album to walk to. Makes you feel fantastic and sounds like autumn gold. '69 was an era in itself. It was a nice condensed capsule into Zeppelin

Thoughts before listening: Iconic debut album from the biggest band of the 70s. Zeppelin helped usher in a brand of hard hitting, bluesy rock on this album that led to countless imitators for decades. This is one of the origins of hard rock and definitely a major reason it became the defining sound of rock n roll for years. Review: Yeah this is great. What a way to kick off an album with "Good Times Bad Times" > "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You". Other favorites on here are "Dazed and Confused", "Communication Breakdown", and "How Many More Times". I like that this is decidedly not a pop album, with long songs including extended jammy sections and guitar solos. Led Zeppelin I is an important album that is also an enjoyable listen throughout. 5-stars

The opening fills of this record inspired my brother to start playing drums. Not sure where I’d be without it. Historic.

Favourite song - Communication breakdown

Jimmy page oh my god. No notes!!!! 10/10!! I know I said I didn’t like blues but when they do it it’s sexy

I’m a sucker for blues based anything

Yeeaahh 🤘 starts strong with "good times bad times", it has a few great hits, quite diverse album, good memories

How Many More Times can I listen to this? This is not a Communication Breakdown. And no, I am not Dazed and Confused.

classic

Its not their best, but so hard to give this anything other than a 5!

Take the blues, put it in rock band instrumentation, and turn it up to 11. Absolutely insane debut album!

Much as I would like to say otherwise, its very good. Feels somewhat misogynistic but overall it's a 5 star

Fuck yeah

Just one of the all time greats. I mean it’s just amazing what they were able to do with their instruments on that album. Totally ahead of their time and trailblazing the new sound for rock n roll.

I never really listened to LZ but thought I'd give it a proper go. Loved it.

It’s a great god damn album. Hard to beat around the bush. Super fun guitar parts, interesting writing and delivery while being catchy. The layers of guitar are really the star in my eyes, wailing guitar over a steady picked line, with some spanish influenced guitar off to the side. It is so beautiful.

Absolutely stellar album from start to finish. Hard to believe this was their debut. I like it better than IV

Truly a classic!

Excellent blues rock album. Led Zeppelin is arguably one of the greatest rock bands of all time and they came onto the scene like a force of nature. The rhythm section of Zep is second to none. The combination of John Bonham and John Paul Jones is what gives the band their heavy sound, "The hammer of the gods". Add in Jimmy Page's amazing guitar riffs and Plant's powerful vocals and you can't wrong. It's the stuff of legends.

One of the best debut albums of all time- zeppelin were pretty much fully formed out of the gate. Dazed and confused is unreal!

The perfect album does not exi... What a treat of an album to tap into on a Friday. It is effectively a Led Zeppelin greatest hits album if you ask me.

Amazing! Bravo! Such a classic.

A stoner fav and forever crowd pleaser. Never not a vibe

Very nice

One of my favorite albums of all time

Legendary.

Zeppelin's first four albums are all stellar and a joy to listen to. Easily 5 stars.

get the led out!

The fact that this is Led Zeppelin's studio debut and it's already absolutely littered with hits is just ridiculous. This record could be any other bands greatest hits album easily, but they're bringing this heat right out of the box. It seems like the band immediately hits their stride with their brand of bluesy, rock and roll epics and they only transcend from here. As you can see, I'm a big fan of Led Zeppelin, and their status as one of the greatest bands of all time is just cemented every time I listen to a full album of theirs in one sitting. Notable Tracks: - Good Times Bad Times - one of my all-time favorite Led Zeppelin tracks - Babe I'm Gonna Leave You - You Shook Me - classic bluesy - Black Mountain Side - good instrumental - Communication Breakdown 9/10

One of the greatest debut albums of all time.

It's just good rock. Excellent guitar work, awesome vocals. I love the song structures, very non-standard. I could listen to Led Zeppelin for hours. The abrupt transitions between some songs is pretty jarring. Not sure if that's just the version I'm listening to or actually a fault of the album, though. The only thing this album is missing for me is a real banger. Like a song that absolutely blows me away or a major hit. But it's such a good album from beginning to end, that it's hard to fault it for that. Favorite Song(s): Good Times Bad Times, Dazed and Confused, Your Time is Going to Come

1001: Sabbath and Zeppelin back to back on this list. While listening to Sabbath vol 4 I had a hard time with the music feeling dated. Now this album is a couple of years older and more prominent, yet I don't quite have the same time gap problem. Although, I do still wish I could have been around to hear this during that time. I'm not sure exactly who or what may have come before this album but it would have been wild to experience this band in the 60s. It looks like Cream and Steppenwolf would be the most comparable for most of the instruments, but Robert Plant is such a unique vocalist. It would be hard to believe this album didn't change the landscape when it dropped. Like the Stones, it has a good mix of acoustic and blues influence to it. For my rating, I typically go based on the number of tracks I love, and try to limit the bonus stars for significance, but this one gets a couple bonus tracks just because it clearly did become a catalyst for a new genre. Favorite track "Communication Breakdown" 5/5

One of the first LP's I gravitated to as a kid, pulled it from my dad's collection because of the awesome cover. Not a bad tune on it, absolute beast of an album, especially for a debut. Standouts "Good Times", "Dazed" and "Communication Breakdown" are radio standards while "Your Time", "Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You" are fan favorites. Solid top to bottom!

Was für ein Brett als Debüt Album!

This is a go-to album for me. I've heard it so often but another listen never hurt.

A few decent quality standard blues tracks here in befitting of their debut album. The rest of it is Led Zep magic. A banger of an opening track, the awesomeness of Dazed and Confused, and the brilliant How Many More Times to close.

fantastic debut fantastic band

It's always been incredible how they hit the ground running. Good Times Bad Times sounds so quintesential Zeppelin, and it's the very first song on their very first album. The rest of the album is great too of course, but I just find it so impressive that there was never really growing pains.

An all time fav

Ratings: 5: I will happily play this album anytime 4: I may occasionally play this album of my own free will 3: I will happily listen to this if someone plays it in the background 2: I will tolerate this if it is playing in the background 1: I will leave the room if someone plays this in the background 3 5's in a row? Must be getting soft. I don't know if I love this album as much as I did in high school (some of the songs drag a bit, looking at you, "You Shook Me").

A classic classic

Led is a 5 from me 🤷🏻‍♀️

Killer record, this is where it all started. They did rocked the hell out of those blues standards (minding the cultural appropriation controversies). One of the best debut albums of all time.

pretty good. one of the better led zeppelin in my opinion

I love this album so much. I started listening to Zeppelin around September of 2023 and started with this album. Now I listen to these songs on a daily basis and can't get enough. How the hell was this whole album recorded in 36 hours! Maybe it's because each member of the band are the best at what they do. Jimmy Page is an amazing guitarist and his solos are legendary. JPJ adds great basslines that always are amazing. Plant's vocals are perfect. For me the star is John Bonham with his top of the class drumming. This is showcased in "Dazed and Confused" where he is killing it. These are 4 of the best musicians of all time and this album is a showcase of their genius. Favourite songs: Good Times Bad Times, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Dazed and Confused, Communication Breakdown, I Can't Quit You Baby Dazed and confused btw is one of my favourite songs of all time.

Can't deny the tracks and riffs are catchy as hell. Even the instrumental track. Banger after banger. I mean I don't think it's a 10/10 like LZ IV, but this is my favorite of theirs that isn't IV.

Debütalbum von Led Zeppelin. Blues, Gitarrensoli, sehr schön!

I wish I didn’t love this as much as I do

This production sounds so good - really deep sound. And of course the songs and the musicianship. One of the greats.

This is what happens when 4 of the most virtuous musicians get together abd play some shit: a masterpiece. Led zeppelin's debut album is pure rock and roll. It has some clear blues influences, and in fact, some songs are blues or folk songs covers (Babe i'm gonna leave you being one of those). So it has a more bluesy sound than other Zepp's albums. I really liked the album, even though I found it a bit irregular. Robert Plant's voice is iconic, and one of the most emblematic rock voices of all time; Jimmy Page ia one of the greatest guitarrists in history, and for me (meh guitar player) is my favourite guitarist (But hell Page, those lyrics on the ending tracks were creepy), John Bonham drums really shine on this record, and songs like "How many more times" show why he's the greatest drummer oat. John Paul Jones' multiinstrumentalism doesnt really stand out on this record but he has some cool basslines in some songs. The only thing I disliked from this album was that is a bit irregular, because you have some masterpieces, and some songs, that without being bad, feel very weak, respect the other ones, for example "you shook me" isn't lame at all, but it feels a bit boring and bland compared to "Babe I'm gonna leave you" or "Dazed and Confused". Overall, I liked the album, and has to be considered one of the greatest debut albums of all time, and the start of a legendary band like Led Zeppelin.

Automatic 5/5. Such a great first album.

OK, so some of the lyrics are uninspired and if I had a dime for every time I heard the words "baby" or "woman".... BUT. The guitar, drums, bass, singing all good on their own and together even better- the way the music isn't rushed and rocks deep and hard is sooo good. And this was their debut album!?

Unreal how great this still sounds over 50 years later. I can't imagine listening to this for the first time as a teenager in 1969 on the heels of the Beatles and Beach Boys...must have sounded like it came from outer space.

Going out the gate with that first track on a debut album… What an absolute statement from Bonham. Not every track on the album is amazing, but the ones that work really, really work.

Bluesy as hell.

Bloody good album!

This is very hard to argue with.

Jajaja, echt een klapper van een album Vanaf het intro van Good Times Bad Times al hooked

Great!

Such a strong debut. Not as good as their second album but amazing how well they knew their sound right from the start. Rating: 4.7

Good stuff

This rocks. That’s all I can say. It just is rock and roll. I love it.

Just beautiful

So angsty. All the songs had these subtle builds so you didn't realize they were taking you anywhere until you were there. What a fun ride.

Great. Heavily blues inspired rock album with classic after classic. Sometimes gets a little meandering in the middle of long songs but an amazing album.

Led Zeppelin is one of the greatest rock bands of all time. This is a solid introduction to them. Yes, they stole some stuff from the old blues men, but what they did with it was amazing. I’ve listened to this album hundreds of times and I’m not done with it yet.

Day 14 of listen to 1001 albums, one day at a time. It’s awesome to listen to the beginnings of what would come for this legendary band. I think the best way to just sum up this album is the album cover. The pure explosion and energy from the Hindenburg tells exactly what this album is. It also being of the rare albums that had full creative freedom during this time is awesome.

They just really hit the ground running, didn't they? Every song sounds so different to what went before, and yet it all feels so cohesive and it never puts a foot wrong.

Keith Moon was right...just kidding...5... obviously.

Looooooooooove

One of my top 20 favorite of all time for sure. And probably the best debut album of all time. No mistakes e no surprises here. Just the best that rock n roll has to offer!

Now a led zeppelin fan - who would have thought it, I’ve been converted.

fantastic debut, one of my favorite bands

The only surprising aspect of this album is seeing that some people didn't rate it a 5. While I can understand giving it a 4, the 1-star ratings are baffling. How much of a hater can you to be?

So many absolute bangers! This album is THE hard rock sound.

Holy smokes. This was recorded in 1968. I mean, sure, the Beatles were wildly ahead of their time with all their material, but compare their White Album to this earth-render of a debut album, recorded at the same time. It's like night and day. Or heaven and hell. Imagine what 60s youth were thinking when they set the needle down on side 1. First track: Good Times Bad Times. BOOM-BOOM. A stadium-shaking E-major chord rings out twice, with all three rhythm players playing in unison. BOOM-BOOM. The light drumbeat doubles in speed, adding dramatically to the tension and excitement. BOOM-BOOM. The percussion rapidly grows more complex and the texture begins to thicken. And just a couple bars later, we enter a flurry of instrumental showcasing, centred heavily around Bonham's in-the-pocket drumming. Man, what a great drumming track this is to start off Zep's career. It's a strong contender for my favourite drumming in any song, ever. Also, some incredible guitar, bass, and 60s-pop vocal with a Plantish flair. And for January of 1969? Mind. Blown. Then we have the wailing rollercoaster ballad of Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, the head-thrashing You Shook Me, and the monster Dazed And Confused (containing some of the strongest guitar riffs of all time) finishing off side 1. Side 2 begins with the whiskey-soaked, gospel-inspired crowd singing of Your Time Is Gonna Come, followed by Black Mountain Side: a short and exotic-sounding instrumental focused on the acoustic guitar and light, wooden percussion. Then we come to an excellent proto-punk tune, Communication Breakdown. Led Zeppelin returns to a slow semi-blues, a la You Shook Me, with the following track, I Can't Quit You Baby. Finally, we end with a jazzy rock jam in How Many More Times, and you're left wondered what the heck you just listened to, other than some of the greatest music of the 60s. Yes, the songs are a little derivative in terms of musical and lyrical ideas – but the raw energy and proficiency on the members' respective instruments is pretty obviously unmatched. And given how popular the band became in the years to come, it seems most people tended to agree with me. 5/5 Key tracks: Good Times Bad Times, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, You Shook Me, Dazed And Confused, Communication Breakdown, How Many More Times

Awesome.

This album is solid throughout, with my favorite track probably being Dazed and Confused. What gives this the high ranking for me is not just the quality of the music. It is the fact that Page was so confident that he had struck gold with this assembly of players, that he basically financed the album himself and produced it as well- in 36 hours of studio time. Page is legendary player and a quite a visionary. I love his out of the box style and I learned so much about how he approaches his craft in the documentary “It might get Loud”. Looking forward for what is to come eventually too. It’s quite possible every studio album made the list.

I mean c’mon! An album this good for your debut? It’s just not fair. All those other bands and critics who say (and said) otherwise can stick a lead balloon where the rock n roll don’t shine. And to think that this sucker was recorded mostly live from the floor in just 36 hours of studio time. Anything less than a 5* would be rock sacrilege.

Man… keep in mind this was just LZ getting warmed up. What an unbelievable debut. It’s crazy to think these guys weren’t universally revered in their time. It’s unfair how much talent is in this band, man!! I bestoweth unto thee the easiest of 5s.

God dammit Led Zeppelin is great and this album is great. I could rave about the guitar riffs and solos, or the incredible drums or bass that just flows throughout or the great vocals. But you know all that so maybe a fun fact… Jimmie Page has become synonymous with the Les Paul. But he actually used a Fender to record most of this album. Specifically a 1950's Telecaster known as the “Dragon” guitar due to its bright, psychedelic hand painted dragon artwork. This guitar was originally owned by Jeff Beck who gifted it to Page in 1966 after Page put Beck forward to be his replacement in The Yardbirds. Pretty cool guitar to check out.

A kick ass debut with bangers galore from one of the greatest rock bands of all time? GTFO with anything less than 5*. 4.5/5

An absolutely perfect album.

What an album. There is not a single second wasted on this thing, every moment, every song, everything. It all goes hard. The band work so well together, and their chemistry is so clear on just about every song. Not to mention how ahead of its time this album was. Music this heavy wasn't even dreamt of in the 60s, and on their first attempt, Zepplin had it in the bag and created what is STILL in 2024 one of the greatest albums of all time.

What a way to start something, Led Zeppelin! 1st album! And finally, one album that, no doubt about it, belongs on this list.

bam... wat een debuut album...hier staat weinig op dat de lat niet haalt..

Rock. Rock. Rock. One of the great ones.

Legendary. They got better, but out of the box, they recreated rock & roll.

55 yrs old and this album was already the future at that time.... this album will be still around for other generations to come. 6/5

A great listen. Good jams, powerful voice. Would recommend.

Classic debut album full of blues rock. I'm a big fan of the Zep so I love all their albums, but this is an excellent start point. Awesome album.

Early and great bluesy proto metal.

A legend takes flight. One that, ironically, would not crash down as easily as the aircraft on the cover of this debut. Of course, Led Zeppelin is the ultimate "dad-rock" band today (grandad rock, even). And yet, they're also timeless. Jimmy Page was a sly fox, "recycling" (and sometimes pillaging, let's be honest) blues tropes to create something unheard of at the time. Robert Plant had the voice that could fit with the ones of both angels and demons--heavily sexualised, and yet so pure in the same hollers and inflexions. John Paul Jones was the rock from which the band could conquer the skies. And John Bonham was an absolute tornado. Who could have predicted that the "New Yardbirds" could pave the way to something so iconic and so groundbreaking? No one. And yet that's exactly what happened. Number of albums left to review: 194 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 348 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 202 Albums from the list I won't include in mine: 256

Every Led Zeppelin album is gonna be a 5. This is no exception. The only issue is that it's only 5 songs. Your Time is Gonna Come is incredible. This album is nearly perfect and I could literally listen to it anywhere, any time.

A near-flawless band introduces itself in the most emphatic way possible.

The band's name was chosen it was suggested that a supergroup with Page and Beck would go down like a "lead balloon"...The group dropped the 'a' in lead at the suggestion of Peter Grant, so that those unfamiliar with the term would not pronounce it "leed". The word "balloon" was replaced by "zeppelin", a word which, according to music journalist Keith Shadwick, brought "the perfect combination of heavy and light, combustibility and grace" to Page's mind. I love this story of the origin of the band name and they certainly satisfy with their combination of heavy and light. Combustibility and grace/flow? Check and check. Is there any music more sexy than Led Zeppelin?

Classic mix of rock and blues. What a debut album! This is great music performed by great musicians.

Led Zepplin

Led Zep announce themselves with a mix of hard rock, blues and folk. The musicianship is next level. The tunes are bangers. What a band.

The best

Classic, listened to that alot. Nice to rediscover

Classic Rock. What else to say about one of the greatest, most impactful debut albums in rock history? The Mighty Guys with some of their finest work.

Head banging rock on

An extremely epic album. I’m going to have this one on repeat for a while. Fave tracks are “black mountain side” and “I can’t quit you baby”

Absolute masterpiece of an album. Though I personally like it the least of the I-IV Zeppelin albums, which really highlights how incredible Zeppelin's entire discography is. The bluesy tone doesn't always land for me, but this album still has some incredible songs. Top tracks: Dazed and Confused, Communication Breakdown, How Many More Times

Best voice in classic rock imo. The album evokes many emotions, ups and downs in the lyrics in every song. Favorite Song: Good Time Bad Times, Dazed and Confused is a close 2nd but it has that weird break in the middle that I don't understand.

I love Led Zeppelin, but I've only listened to around half of their albums front to back, not including this one. The opening track is an absolute banger. And I love the slower blues songs in addition to the more hard rocking tracks. I was not expecting the Indian percussion on "Black Mountain Side" - very cool. This hasn't dethroned some of their later albums in my mind, but it's still straight heat.

No thoughts just vibes

What an absolute masterpiece.

Perfect riffs Baby I’m gonna leave you - great sound, vocals sound almost gospel like You shook me - classic blues Dazed and confused - feels like a continuation of previous track. Great riff Communication breakdown - cool trip How many more times - cool fuzz riff Rest is solid

i really do like led zeppelin a ton - it's crazy to see how much they influenced wolfmother

Jesus. I knew I liked Zeppelin, but I didn't realize just how much. Quickly becoming one of my favorites in the classic rock era

Immernoch ganz ganz groß.

A great, great record. Starts off strong and keeps it up throughout. Hard to believe this album is 55 years old. Some of these older albums seem dated by production, the sound, playing ability, vocals, etc. This is not one of those albums. I feel like if this album was released today, it would be a massive hit. The only real slow point for me is You Shook Me which is ruined by that damn organ and is a pretty straightforward blues cover. But this album is raw, well played, well sung, well recorded (in just 36 hours!), and well produced. You can just picture these guys in a dingy bar somewhere banging out these songs. Not a perfect album but you can't rate this less than 5/5.

An instant rock classic. A band that defined genres. A total win from start to finish.

Baggers

OH SNAP I was waiting for some Led Zep. In another universe these guys never would have made it out of the pub but they had the magic, the special shit, and probably Satan helping out. You know what I’m saying. But imagine you’re some dumb hippy stoned out of your ass and you hear the opening riff of Good Times Bad Times. BOOM you’re in a different world whether you want to be or not. Did they also lift half their sound from Black American rock and blues? Obviously. You can’t deny it. But the lads were onto something, and it still holds up decades later. This is not my favorite Led Zep album but it is outstanding. Robert Plant is one of the best vocalists of all time and you can tell in Babe I’m Gonna Leave You just how good he’s gonna be. It’s a great debut album because you know they have potential that will come later. And of course scandals and thelema and whatever. 1969 may have been the best year for music and this record belongs in the top tier of it.

Superb!

Classic. Back to back great tracks

Great album super bluesy

Big Bang!!!!!!

Amazing

Unbelievable, that all of these songs are on the same album. And its the first.

One of the better albums in their pretty great discography. I was a fan of Led Zeppelin as a teenager, but some love is still there. I think this band would have one of the greatest Best Of albums, but this record is not that far off. Love the sound, I like the vocals, amazing riffs and guitar solos, surely still one of the better albums in history.

Like the first time all over

A classic for a reason

Ah yes, the iconic Zeppelin debut album with the aggressively phallic imagery on the cover! Not only a literal depiction of the band’s name, but also a powerful visual indicator signifying the triumphant arrival of first gen cock rock to the world at large. They’re here, they’re powerfully virile, and they’re ready to go at you all night long! You get exactly what you expect from it and you immediately want to spin it again. It’s a perfect debut album; the voice of a bold and defiant newcomer screeching onto the scene, here to show off their musical prowess the likes of which we’ve never seen, but without any showboating. A magnificent introduction to the most revered of all the Classic Rock Titans.

Frábær plata. Alvöru rokk og kúabjallan notuð villt og galið. Þetta hafði mikil áhrif á rokkið og mótaði okkur nokkra.

The year is 1969 - you're 14 years old - you walk into the record store and there is a display for a band called Led Zeppelin. You ask the clerk what it is and they just say "it's new." Your mind was about to be blown.

Not my favourite Zeppelin album, but still an easy five stars

Awesome!!!!

Another timeless classic

It only takes 2000 pounds and 36 hours to make the greatest debut album of all time. You just need the greatest riff maker, a top 3 front-man and the greatest rhythm session of all time by FAR to make it happen. Dazed and Confused > How Many More Times > Babe I'm Gonna Leave You > Good Times Bad Times > Communication Breakdown....

cmon easy 5/5

Some really iconic tracks here. Great blues rock album. 4.6/5

If they aren’t the greatest band of all time they are certainly on the short list. They have it all. 4.8

So good.

Perfect.

Crazy how Led Zeppelin’s very first album was nowhere near its best, and still better than almost every album ever. Can’t believe it was released as early as 1969, they really pioneered an entire sea change in music.

Classic rock and roll album. Must listen.

4.8/5 -- great and classic album to me. listened 3x

Clássico de formação para garantir que o melhor do rock grudado na cabeça sempre.

Absolutely legendary album!

1st time listening to album in full. Musical masterpiece.

Obviously amazing.

Best Zeppelin album

Fantastic album…front to back

One of the best first album a band has ever done.

Excellent Start to my generator albums , it will be interesting to see if the follow up are as impressive. I have this album anyway and everything is subjective.

Holy hell! Yes please this is just insane to be a debut LP, seemingly un-toppable, but Zep just gets better from here. Insane! I can’t believe the skill on this album, all members firing on all cylinders. Let’s go! John Bonham, the GOAT Arguably ever other member GOAT, can’t fuck with Plant, Page or JPJ! Seriously this album has some tracks that set me in the course for a lifetime of rock and roll addiction. I was 12 years old attempting to play Dazed and Confused on drums, still can’t, but that’s fine. This is raw emotion on rock form that’s been part of me my entire life.

This one changed everything in rock. Five stars.

Classic.

One of the greatest first albums from one of the greatest bands ever.

Top of the Classic Rock Mountain

Classic. Love the guitar in "You Shook Me"

That this album was released in 1969, I was born in the 90’s, and can’t stop listening to it in 2024, makes it Timeless. My favorite Zeppelin album by far, and one of the greatest albums of all time.

Having gotten several Led Zeppelin albums on this list, I'm getting more and more convinced that they never made a bad album. All of the albums I've gotten so far (Zep III, Zep IV, and Physical Graffiti) were great and each innovative in its own way. This album is a great example of white boys doing the blues and actually making something meaningful and interesting out of it. Every song is good, and they balance each other out well. The album starts out with a fairly traditional blues rock feel, but gets psychedelic with Dazed and Confused. From there, it keeps changing. Sometimes a slow, sweet song, sometimes a wailing guitar solo. The musicianship and production really shine through on this album. Also, the cover fucking kicks ass 5/5

I can't believe this is their debut album. Legendary tracks and haunting riffs.

Loved it. led zeppelin masters of rock n roll

It’s Zeppelin I. One of the greatest debuts

Those two guitar power chord stabs that open the record in Good Times Bad Times just make one go f—- yeah! Whatever you’re doing when listening to it. Then John Bonhams grooves kick in and you’re off - what a great record. And I’d thought I’d gone off this band - was going to write them off as boomer fodder that resonated with my younger self - but this record definitely still holds up.

So fully formed even at this stage

Mers la mare cu cristina circa 2005 activated

A few classics on there. Highlight was dazed and confused and a great closing track edged it to 5 stars.

An incredible debut!

Du bon son

Day 25 10/10 Every Song Was Amazing! I love the album cover too. Such a great debut album from Zeppelin & I can't wait to hear more of his music in the future!

Hell yeah this is what I love when I want to listen to some classic blues rock. Great debut and knowing what was to come, it's impressive how clearly they knew what sound they wanted.

An all time favorite!

Grandioses 1. Album. Stark aufgenommen

Nah this rules. Pure musicality in action. Still exciting today.

One of the best albums from one of the greatest rock bands

I mean, man, it's the first Led Zeppelin.

First time listener here, this fucking rocks!

Incredible album!

Bluesy as hell. Rockin’ as hell. Led Zeppelin were not the first to merge blues and rock, but they were the first to do it this good. The heavier blues tracks are the ones that really grab my attention - Babe I’m Gonna Leave and Dazed and Confused. Some may argue that they ripped off blues players without giving appropriate credit, but I think of it more as Zep paying homage to them, and embracing the heaviness that a John Paul Jones + John Bonham rhythm section can bring. You can definitely hear the roots of hard rock in this album.

Led Zeppelin’s debut album definitely influenced a ton of metal and rock and roll of this era. This album also seems to pay homage to a lot of the blues greats before them. As far as debuts go, what more could you ask for? Dazed and confused will always have a soft spot in my heart, as well as the solo in communication breakdown.

Great Album BUT; Not what I signed up for. I may have to abandon this project unless they start suggesting stuff I haven't already listened to thousands of times.

An all time classic. Easily in the top 10 of greatest debut albums. Every track is perfect. 5 stars all day. And it's not even their best album.

Wish some of the songs weren't plagiarized because LZ could have been one of the most progressive acts of their time. But nevertheless this album with still be standing like a monolyth for all eternity. So raw, so untamed, so unpolished it can be considered heavy metal of its time. Ripe with blues and boogie and Bob Plant chops and vocal prowess is inconic and nuts. I've loved this album since I was 11. I will continue to love it until I'm 111.

I'd like to introduce Led Zeppelin to you

Amazing. Legendary.

Oh FUCK YEAH BROTHER🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

Brilliant no skips best album

Loved them then; love them now.

Great album.

Thumbs up!

Definitely one of my favorite albums of all time. I don't give this album enough spins for my ears. I need this on my rotation a bit more. Classic effing album.

Wow. Can't believe I've slept on Zep for so long.

The guitar/instrumentals on “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You” had me mesmerized! Another London based band that borrowed heavily from American/black folk and blues music, but in comparison to Rolling Stones, this album really did the genres justice.

DUNH-DUNH Tss Tss Tss DUNH-DUNH Tss-tss-tss-tss-tss-tss DUNH-DUNH Pock-pock pock pock pa-pock pock DUNH-DUNH Pock-pock pock pock pa-pock pock DUNH-DUNH BAM-BA-RATTAT RAT-TAT-DIDDLY-DIDDLY-DIDDLY-DIDDLY And then the world changed.

10 / 10 Brutal, hard rock, blues, todo lo bueno de Zepelín en su primer disco. Increíble!!

This is one that I knew would be 5 stars before listening through again. Good Times Bad Times is an insane track 1 on a debut.

Que de bonnes tounes sur cet album!

Big fan already.

Led Zeppelin’s version of ‘Babe I’m Gonna Leave You’ is one of my favorite songs. I looked the song up today and found out that it is a folk song written in the 1950s by Anne Bredon and Joan Baez sang it in the early ‘60s before Led Zeppelin put their spin on it. So I listened to Joan’s version and it was horrible. The whole album is bluesy, trippy, and wonderful.

Wish I was alive when this came out just to see the look on people's faces.

With Jimmy Page's stabbing guitar riff at the start of Good Times Bad Times, this album introduced Led Zep as a force to be reckoned with when it was first released in early 1969. It also marks it out as a 5* album, with the following eight tracks only confirming that fact! Listening to the LP on headphones, you are reminded of how intimate and powerful an ensemble this band were. The virtuoso skills of each member takes turns in being centre stage on particular tracks, from John Paul Jones' masterful bass on You shook me and Dazed and Confused, to John Bonham's commanding drum play on You shook me (Again) and How many more times. Throughout, Page's guitar is phenomenal whilst Robert Plant's vocals are powerful, if a little shrill at times. His mimicking of Page's guitar at the end of You shook me may be a little silly but, c'mon- it's fun! My advice is to suspend any discomfort at the macho posturing of some of the lyrics, accept that this is a historical artefact and just wallow in the glorious racket that this phenomenal band were so good at!

Excellent.

Just an amazing album from a defining group of its time. Biggest complaint was that I wanted it to be longer so I could keep listening.

Blues rock, bangers. Mix of lovely soft, with some straight in your face rock. The heart of the zeppelin iconic sounds.

Truly a one spectacular band preforming a fantastic album. First time listening to the whole album and I was so immersed in each song. Loved it.

# Playlist track - Babe I'm gonna leave you # Notes - Still one of the greatest rock albums of all time.

Probably one of the greatest debut albums of a band. This is one of my favorite albums from my favorite band. Top tracks: Good Times Bad Times, Babe I’m Gonna Leave You, Dazed and Confused, Communication Breakdown

Few debut albums stand as tall as Led Zeppelin's. And the fact that the first two songs are "Good Times Bad Times" and "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You", amazing. Saying that most of the the songs on here are bangers. Crazy to think they went on to make better albums than this.

Got me through the Iowa blizzard

Arguably one of the best classic rock albums ever recorded. Just about every song is a gem. Essential listening, for certain!

Led Zeppelin, the 1st band of heavy metal. The only heavy metal band I can listen to. Rock pioneers. Great songs

Classic. Classic

I mean…classic. What a debut album. Not sure what else to say. Been listening to this since I was like 14.

One of the best debuts of all time.

Everything just sounds so good, almost effortless. Plant's vocal performance is out of this world and the rest of the band sound tight and fresh. This is one of those rare albums that has aged well and the quality is timeless. There was even better to come with the following albums, but the debut is still an easy 5 star recording.

Absolutely brilliant.

Way to get the Led out!

Probably even better when altered

Lots of excellent music on here. Robert Plant’s vocals with the lead guitar in track 3(?) we’re amazing and hilarious

Favorite song: all of them

I cannot believe this album was the world's introduction to Led Zeppelin. I wish I was alive back in the day to listen to that when it first released and have my mind absolutely blown by this record. I listened to this multiple times yesterday and wasn't tired of it one bit.

I AM A LED HEAD

just perfect

A Masterpiece. Loved the guitar solos, the voice, the complex composition and the dare to make more than 3 minute songs.

Have always like Zeppelin. Thank you for reintroducing!
