Retro, but really great. Would listen again
Very chill, but there's a lot going on when you pay attention
Flashback to my teen tears
Hadn't heard it before, but definitely interesting!
Technically impressive, but the song writing is mediocre at best
Second Jodi Mitchell album in a week of listening, and after listening to both, I can see why she's rated so highly
Monster grooves, although the slow ones aren't as good.
It's the Beatles. What else can be said?
Still as great as when it first came out.
Mostly good, but loses a point for round the world
Things I realized listening to this album
-i don't like Def Leppard very much
-if you are going to make songs about rocking, they can't be overproduced.
After listening to this more, this one got bumped up to 5, and was my first edit.
Amazing album. Starts crazy and stays there, and it's almost 50 years old
Kind of interesting and chill, but also very late 70s.
Loses 3/4 of a point for Maxwell's silver hammer and 1/4 for octopuses garden.
I tried to look at this objectively, and not down rate it too much because of kid rock, but it starts mediocre, and gets worse.
I thought this might be one that was more important than good, but I enjoyed this.
I was 13 when this came out, so of course this has a huge impact on me, but it still stacks up.
Another late 70s/early 80s English band.
Ok, but not particularly memorable.
I don't think this one objectively deserves 4 stars, but I've got too many good memories of this album from when it first came out
The eightiest album on this list
Mostly just pleasant, but take five gets it to , three stars
A kind of forgotten about old favourite, but it still stacks up
Not particularly original, but we'll done. Surprisingly I'd missed this band until now.
Not too bad but more forgettable English new Wave
Kind of stupid but also kind of fun
Slightly down transitional album, but still decent.
Easiest five stars, and as soon as I saw I got this I knew it would be a five star record. Brilliant in every way
I'd never heard of this band, but they are a great early punk band.
Fine, but there is definitely too much Morrissey on this list.
Decent, but generic 70s dad rock.
A bit funky, but generally too lose to elevator music.
Not as weird as I was expecting, but I liked it.
Loved the amount of energy and uniqueness of it, even if it got punishing at times.
I'd forgotten about incubus for 25 years, and this hasn't changed anything
It's hard work, but interesting, and a couple of good songs
Probably the best nu metal band. Might have got 4 if it was shorter and fresh durst didn't show up
One of my easiest 5 stars.
I'm glad it exists, and it was interesting and kind of fun but not sure I'm in a rush to listen again.
Gets points for trying something different and has it's moments, but frequently gets boring
Pleasant background music, but that's all it is.
Interesting and influential folk
Pleasant, interesting and weird.
I wasn't sure if we needed two Johnny Cash prison albums, and I was right.
Totally fine, but not essential.
Closer to the Faces then do you think I'm sexy, so I liked it.
Intelligent, political hip hop, but at an over an hour it's a trudge.
Public enemy were doing it better around this time, because they made way more fun music.
Not as boring as lots of 80s r and b, but still not my favourite era of music.
Funk ones are amazing, but Stevie Wonder ballads are incredibly boring.
I'm sure it's important, but it's also very boring. Almost turns into Disney music at times.
It's 1994 and I'm 16. Kurt Cobain had died a few months ago, and this comes out as probably the last thing Nirvana will release.
After the initial shock of it being acoustic, we spend ages playing the simple chords of about a girl, and playing around with the phasing. I don't think we knew the history of where did you sleep last night or even knew much about David Bowie, but we love the covers as much as the Nirvana songs
Thirty years later, it's still great, and the emotion in this album, the sadness .of Kurt Cobains death, and never knowing what else could have been still hits hard.
Pleasant enough, but does fade into the background
A weird one. Some really strange lyrics with the beach boys trying to be socially relevant, and sometimes failing miserably. Also had one of the few pop songs about looking after your feet.
Still has enough of tr beach boys sound, and at least it's memorable.
Wilco were a band that had dropped out of my rotation a bit, but this album reminded me why I love them and need to listen to them more.
Reminded me of how much I like early punk.
Decent early 90s alternative, but not super memorable. It's still a genre I like, so gets 4 stars
Very 80s big hair. Hits are very memorable, but not that great, and not much beyond that
Very 70s, but they do it well
Way better than I expected. Super atmospheric.
Not as good as their more adventurous stuff, but has some great songs
This was great.
Obscure, sci fi hip hop.
Gets a little rickety at times, but that's part of the charm
More big band ray Charles. Not really my thing.
Way too late 80s adult contemporary for me, although you can see what she's capable of underneath it all.
Better than average 60s folk, mainly because of the guitar playing
Definitely a genre of heard in various kebab or middle eastern sweet shops.
Like a few other people, I preferred it when it went less euro pop, although that's not what Khaled and presumably his audience wanted, and raises lots of questions about authenticity and who values it.
Anyway, interesting enough and had a few good songs, do gets a 3.
Not many albums codify a whole genre. It also swings more than you might expect
Fantastic vocals from Sandy Denny, influential and rocks hard.
Brilliant, but the darkness and nihilism is a bit much.
Maybe we don't need more obscure early 80s neo psychedelica, but I enjoyed it
Papa was a rolling stone is head and shoulders above everything else, but the rest is decent, and that's a huge song.
I'm feeling generous, and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would
Three great artists together, and it works great.
Not as much fun as kraftwerk
I'd never heard of them, but way more fun than I was expecting from the description and the photo.
Disturbing, and very unique, although you can hear it's influence in lots of places
Kind of fun, but still a bit country for me.
Such an amazing mix of grief, but also somehow life affirming.
Another one in the not groundbreaking, but good music id never heard of group.
Scooby snacks was fun in the mid 90s l, and a nice little blast of nostalgia. The rest is pretty forgettable, and I'm bemused why it's on the list.
I can understand why people were angry the Beatles got broken up for this, but with 50+ years passed, it's better It's slight, but still has great tunes.
They got better with their own songs, but still pretty good here
Very atmospheric, but does get a bit bland
Totally fine 90s indie rock. I didn't really notice it when it came out, and I don't feel I missed much
Grunge was a huge part of my teenage musical years, but I didn't hear much of this.
More garagey than I might have thought, but I like that about it
They got better, but this is still great.
The big songs are amazing, and I liked the r&b side.
Neil Young at his most beautiful.
And it has the best song with a French horn solo.
Probably would have benefitted from a second listen
Interesting, and you can see the talent, but also not my thing.
Funky, but also a little dull.
Boring ass 50s music, even if it was cool at the time. Drinking single malt while listening didn't help.
Not sure if it's brilliantly stupid, or just stupid, so splitting the difference.
Singles are bangers, but it does drop off after that.
Just a great album. The rockers are great, but the ballads work well.
When I first heard this band I was amazed Rod Stewart could be this good, and it's one of the best $10 cds I bought
I think the songwriting is fairly strong, but not enough to get past the dull jazzy 80s production.
Has it's moments, and they are talented, but also turns into background music.
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would, funky, atmospheric, and varied.
Way better than I was expecting. I thought it would be a novelty record, but it's super funky and fun. And it's super important for hip hop. I think every second of the album has been used somewhere.
It's also not quite as dominated by bongos as you might expect.
Amazing from start to finish.
Steely dan, but more boring and less fun.
One of the greats in fantastic form.
Kashmir is one of the all time greats, but the less well known slower epics (in my time of dying, in the light and ten years gone) are great as well.
Maybe one or two forgettable ones towards the end, but they are still enjoyable, and the peaks are so high, they don't bring it down.
Gets better the longer it goes and the more they cut loose.
I'm never going to complain about incentive punk.
Fantastic, brilliant album, although personally ok computer hits harder.
I know this band gets a lot of bad reviews sometimes, but this has fond memories for me.
I also still think their take on southern Rock holds up pretty well. It's not deep, but it's fun and energetic.
Has times when it gets more experimental than good, but still glad I heard this one
It reminded me of the time I was very stoned and 17, and playing my guitar, except these guys are way more talented than me.
Ozzy (and the rest of the band) were really legends.
Definitely the grand fathers of Franz Ferdinand.
Ok, but not memorable enough to really stand out.
Strange and disturbing, but also has moments of beauty.
The story of his life is so sad
Even without the allegations l, I was never a huge Michael Jackson fan , and this hasn't changed my mind.
I kind of prefer poppy Abba. Maybe they would have gone in an interesting direction post this, but this isn't that memorable.
It turns out I Iike English folk rock, although these guys aren't as good as Fairport Convention
Has some absolute bangers, and also enormously influential on lots of bands I love.
A bit sameish at times, but I'll always happily listen to Mark Knopfler play guitar.
Abrasive, but in a good way.
Fine, but also kind of unexceptionable late 60s early 70s rock.
Maybe.doesnt move much past loveless, bit still great
Fantastic song writing, and rocks hard.
Such a change from my usual music, but interesting enough to get 3
Very unremarkable 80s pop funk.
I'd never heard of them before, and I'd never missed not having them in my life.
I loved this album when it came out, and still lots of fun.
Santana's guitar playing is good enough to get it to 4
A tricky one. It does what it aims to do well, but it's still just background music
Punk that's prepared to do something a little different.
Party rock rap, that isn't as dumb as it's trying to be.
Nick Cave at his most nick cave. Demented, but also tender.
If you are going to make albums about having sex with 15 year olds, you need to avoid being sleazy. This gains miserably
Maybe more David Bowie than Iggy Pop, but still excellent
Deserves 5 for killing in the name and their whole career, even of this isn't their best album.
As soon as I saw this, I knew it would be an easy 5 star.
Stairway is a classic, and it's not even the best song on the album
Weird, but interesting enough beyond that
This was in my dad's record collection, and was one of our favorites.
Five stars just for the memories, but I think it still holds up.
My first response was not morrisey again, but this was one of his better ones
Rocks hard, super interesting and Smart.
Has some weird detours, but also some absolute classics, and hugely important.
Initially I was a little disappointed, thinking it was not as good and not as coherent as Fairport Convention, but the songwriting is super strong, and it's still good
Better than average country, but country isn't my thing
Good, but a bit generic and boring soul. I like soul with a bit more grit than this.
Not as good as Gram Parsons solo work, but still pretty good.
Nick cave and a brilliant crew being deranged.
The hits are great, but a bit dull after that.
Kiss are best at big dumb rock, and they still aren't very good at that. Trying to be smart just makes them worse.
I enjoyed this more than I thought I was going to. They should be known for more than come on Eileen.
Better than average dumb 80s rock, bit it's still dumb 80s rock.
It's pretty clear Ryan Adams is a dick, but he can write a pretty song.
Does meander, but that's kind of the point, and it's still interesting music.
It reminds.me of the sort of music you'd hear in an art installation, which fits with the history of this band.
It's always interesting, even if not always enjoyable, and I'd take it over a generic early 70s rock record.
Very 80s, but has some bangers
Definitely unessential Elvis Costello, but it's fine.
Not terrible, but does turn into background music very easily
Fine, and some talented people involved, but not very interesting or essential
I've realized I like thrash metal in small doses, but a whole album is mostly too much.
Fun enough 70s rock that's improved by being live. The boys are back in town is enough of a banger to get it to 4.
Queen at their heaviest and most proggy. Not as good as Led Zeppelin, but still pretty good.
Better than average 80s synth rock
Driving stoner space rock.
A good live album makes you feel wish you went, and this would have been an amazing show.
At its worst a bit dull, but at best you could see why it inspired Bruce Springsteen.
Just do funky and great at taking you to a time and placr, although the misogyny gets a bit tiring.
One of the best debuts ever.
Pretty phenomenal playing, and you can feel how much they love the blues, even if they are a bunch of white guys from London.
Has it's moments, but also a bit ridiculous and pretentious.
This was goos. Good concept, and well executed, and should have been far bigger.
Maybe not my favourite white Stripes album, but still pretty good.
Doesn't stand out too much, but enough none touches to be better than average 60s rock.
I was expecting this to be far more fun than it was.
