Reviews (page 2 of 14)
An iconic album from an iconic band. This is a must have for any collector of Rock n’ Roll music. I listened to this album in the early 70’s and was the first album I purchased. Listened to the HD Remastered Edition time this morning and loved it! On another note, I relish the fact that so much of Rock n’ Roll is so deeply rooted in the Delta Blues and its origins. It is in so many ways a testament of how music represents the human spirit, soul, heart and consciousness. Music is an expression of freedom that transcends time and connects people regardless of all the other bullshit.
I used to be a real Led Zeppelin hater way back not so long ago. My step dad wouldn’t shut up about them and I found it annoying so I refused to really give them a chance. While it was Led Zeppelin III that really changed my mind because Immigrant Song whips ass, their first album is unmatched. Plant’s vocals are insane. We need more men moaning in their songs, where did that go?
Cannot believe this was their first album. Absolutely insane to compare against other bands' first entry. TONS of excellent songs, and a sound so mature and timeless that they really must've been working with black magic in some capacity. Sure Jimmy Page had some time playing in the big time, but this is just an incredible foundation for a foundational band
Classic
One of the best albums ever recorded in my opinion. Everything about it is top notch, from the songs to the musicians, to the album cover. It is the perfect mix of Blues, Sex, and Rock N Roll that helped define a decade.
Still special after all these years.
What an album! Just superlative.
Perfect. All I expect from rock album and any album itself.
The debut of the greatest band of all time. The album starts off with a double bang to get your attention, and perfectly encapsulates what Zeppelin's about to rock. Every single song has incredible musicianship and make sure you know that every member is the best in their field. Yeah the lyrics are one-dimensional, but the vocal performance behind it backs it up. A lot of people slander this one cause of what they stole, but that still makes it the greatest cover album of all time. The level they took these blues standards to is just crazy work. Not a singular dud either. Purist 45 minutes of blues you can hear in the world. I've listened to this record a thousand times, and I still will till the day I die. It's a blues masterpiece, it's a psychedelic masterpiece, and it's a hard rock masterpiece.
When to listen: July, outside, BBQ. This album just *feels* good. The music, the lyrics, everything. Loved.
As far as perfection goes, this is an example worth looking up to. Occasionally I'll feel its date, the choppy tracklist flow is executed as best it could be with the technology of the era. The blues presence, which is to say the essence of rock and roll, is very present without drowning in itself. The talent, especially in the strings, speaks for itself, we're talking about a band that deserves its very saturated recognition. I know a lot of these songs, they're buried in my psyche after all those teenage listens, but this is my first time listening to this project. The songs I hadn't heard before just help engulf the experience in a dopamine stew. It's actually pretty difficult for me to believe this was a product of the 60s, and I'm not sure if it's my own exposure and bias the reason I feel it holding strong as its own sound today, some 60 years later. I'm not docking songwriting credit points, I'm not holding grudges with the band or the industry. I do feel there was appropriation going on and for better or worse, it helps prop up a historic band and an amazingly executed debut. 4.8/5
All time classic
YESSSSSSSS
I can see the blues references. Solid album
This bands place in music history was solidified long before they became classic rock. Their influence is everywhere, but what’s interesting is how blusey their early work was. They owe a huge debt to the blues community that probably doesn’t have much recorded and whose names are long forgotten
Love it!!!
Two Zeppelin albums in a row. I love Stairway but this may be my favorite Zeppelin album. Heavy on the blues influence but still feels like their own. Love this one
Great freshman release. Great blend of blues and rock. Closing tracks on both sides are especially rippin
Fucking masterpiece
I haven't listen through the whole album in a long time. There are a lot of hits (Good Times Bad Times, Dazed and Confused, Communication Breakdown) and personal favourites like Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Your Time Is Gonna Come and How Many More Times. It's bluesier than some of their later albums. Just fantastic.
Classique
There's not such a thing as a bad Led Zep album. The first starts with the heavy Good Times and the four musicians in unison in a bluesy Q&A that would define the "hard rock".
The hard rock song Band of Gypsys was already out there, and Jimmy Page clearly worshipped Jimi Hendrix, but on Led Zeppelin, what really changes everything for me is Robert Plant’s voice and John Bonham’s monstrous heavy drumming, and that damn way of bringing jazz-style double kick patterns into rock. Must have been insanely exciting to live through that era where everything was still being invented and cleared out in real time. This album might not be my favorite from that era, it is still a damn good one and it had a massive impact. Period.
A British reinterpretation of classic American blues. Jimmy Page may have "borrowed" much of the underlying sound, but so what? It's still amazing (yes he should have given credit where it is due). I really don't understand how one of the foundations of '60s hard rock was so widely panned by critics when it first came out. One of the truly great debut albums.
What an incredible start to a career and probably the best first song on a first album ever??? Led Zeppelin stole a lot but they still absolutely rock. Sorry to the original artists but the definitive versions of "Dazed and Confused" and "Babe I'm gonna leave you" are here. Seems like they stole from white ppl too b/c "Your time is gonna come" sounds like "Dear Mr. Fantasy" to me. Easy 5.
Iconico
The tone of the drums was roomy and large. It filled the space in a way that made the record sound mights. I developed an appreciation for the breaks and transitions between section. The use of the stereo with and panning across the LR landscape was noteworthy.
Underrated album from Led Zeppelin that does a great job of blending of rock, metal, and blues. Likes: Good Times Bad Times; Babe I’m Gonna Leave You; Dazed and Confused; Communication Breakdown; How Many More Times
Goat debut?
Awesome
You know, it’s really hard to give an album a bad review when you look at the track list and know almost every song on it. It’s a greatest hits without being a greatest hits. So that’s all I need to say I guess. It’s a hard to beat album. Choice cut:,Babe I’m gonna Leave You
🤘
What can you say, it's classic Zeppelin.
Up there with the greatest debut albums surely. The blueprint of everything Zeppelin became is on this album - two potential singles (if they ever chose to release one!) in good times bad times and communication breakdown, a folk song that builds in babe I'm gonna leave you, a psychedelic folk instrumental in black mountain side, two hard rock blues covers (you shook me and I can't quit you baby), a west coast track in Your time is gonna come and two riff based tracks that morph into guitar showcases - Dazed and confused and how many more times. To hear track one for the first time would've been quite something.
SOLID
solid 4.5. Talvez meu álbum favorito do Zeppelin, é muito divertido. Favs: Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, You Shook Me, Dazed and Confused, Communication Breakdown.
One of the greatest of all time and my personal favorite
In the late 60s the world decided that what was missing from blues music was the english. And somehow these absolute masterpieces were made. I love this album absolutely foundational to me in the 90s as a teenager.
This is the first album where I can't look at the other reviews because it somehow physically hurts to read anyone giving this anything less than five stars.
I love this record!
The blueprint for hard rock from this era. Doesn’t get more classic rock than this. Reminds me of spending the weekends with my dad.
Such an amazing debut album. Even without that in mind, the opening of the albums might be one of the best ever. It had some low points for me (You Shook Me and I Can't Quit You Baby) due to their sexual nature but even those were showcases of great performances. There is something about Led Zeppelin that is mystical and makes them sound important that I can't quite put my finger on and rarely any other bands can match.
Def one of my favs of Led Zeppelin. No need to comment anything else. I've listened to this album countless times. I love the way Page talks with his Telecaster guitar.
- Honestly, you just really must be a miserable sort to come down as a hater on this one ..... go find some joy and make something. Just about a perfect debut. remember, these musicians are all session players, except for Plant. They're day job is playing on other peoples productions, covering other peoples compositions. This is the norm for these guys. It's also the norm for the times; musicians hired daily to flesh out compositions for the music factory ..... They take that reality and move it to someplace new. Other bands were doing it but none of them sounded like this. This was something else, something forward looking. This was a perfect distillation of the forces at play at the time. That's why everyone else tried to do what they did afterwards. No one ever does. It's Page's vision, it's stellar and it's unmatched.
Not a bad song on the album
One of my fav rock albums… need motorcycle
Easily a 5/5. Led Zeppelin came out swinging with this one. I love the Blues and Psychedelic influence on this first album. The vocals, instrumentals, and production value is near perfect. The band just sounds so cohesive; it gives an indicator about the legendary status this band would have in the rock scene.
Hammer of the Gods
One of the greatest debut albums of all time not only for the musicianship and vocal delivery of the band. But for the fact they did it on their own without the need of a record company and got a recording contract from it and then international fame. Most songs on the album are or influenced by some great blues musicians resulting of listeners delving into these blues musicians catalogs.
Not the biggest Zep fan, but can't deny the great songs on this album. 4.5/5.
Viele meiner früheren Lieblingssongs, die ich beim Zeitung austragen gehört habe. Sehr schön, vor allem auch mal die anderen Lieder zu hören und nicht nur die Klassiker die jeder kennt. 10/10
Rock masters masters of rock
Loved it
From a band that pioneered the Tolkien Rock genre, but to be Fair And Balanced and Honest there are no Tolkien songs on this album. You can just close your eyes and imagine they are singing about elves and orcs in a bloody war murdering each other. In my opinion Led Zeppelin is one of those bands that forever be a sound that no one will be able to imitate again. I have no doubt that in 30 years Hot Topic, or whatever store replaces it, will still be selling Led Zeppelin shirts but maybe not My Chemical Romance (or whatever hot shit band the youths are into these days).
Now we're talking. An amazing debut album and it just may be my favorite Zeppelin album, but there are so many great ones to pick from. The feeling on this one is rawer, but the technicality of the music is still just as great.
Face melter.
whips ass.
Not much anyone can say that hasn't already been said. There are no misses on this album. 5.0/5
Hey I know that one (I can’t wait to taint the statistics)
Almost a perfect debut album, very good
Its Zeppelin. Its good. Not their best album but its a good one all the same
¡¡Glorious music!!
Led Zeppelin definitely fits this list, their first 5-6 albums should be included due to their cultural importance and influence on music history. There aren't many bands with historic album runs like Led Zeppelin, and it started from (this) album #1. It is impressive just how consistent and singular the sound is from the jump.
Energy, music, that voice, great album a moment in the evolution of Led Zeppelin
Fundacional
No skips
No comment needed. Killer debut album.
The first album by the greatest hard rock band and it sounds like it is there 5th not first, which is a testament to their musicianship and ability as performers. 4.5 closer to 5
Incredible debut for these kids, probably went on to do some stuff
5/5 I just love it. Their first album was one of their best
Album that made me dive into Rock! It’s pure magic in this album delivering raw initial rock and roll talent.
Great
Iconic
classy classic
Estaba bueno pinto me gustó el órgano
I remembered it as a “5”. It’s held up to expectations.
This album is a classic. I have listened to this album 100 times at least. every song is a banger.
Masterpiece!
que discazo!!!!!
I don't even own all the LZ on the list, but if the ounces I do own those is my least favourite. Which is just to say that as well as the staggering majesty of the best songs there are some relatively mediocre stuff mixed in. The first two sings are some the best rock songs ever written, the last two are just average. Still a great album and undoubtedly influential but slightly less than their best
Great album and definitely reminds me of senior year lmao. It’s a super engaging album, very interesting sonically, especially during the long instrumental breaks. I love some good classic rock and Led Zeppelin is one of the best.
Man Zeppelin’s early albums are so good. This is arguably the weakest one of their early work but it’s still incredible. It got it all - the folkier side in Black Mountain Side and Babe I’m Gonna Leave You, bluesier Dazed and Confused and You Shook Me, and intensive hard rock in Communication Breakdown. Honestly no skips great album and they somehow got even better in zep 3 and 4.
Buenardas, la mejor es dazed and difused
I debated between giving this one a four or a five. As an album, it's a great listen. In the context of what Led Zeppelin would subsequently achieve, it serves as a preview of greater things to come. While Zep would continue to grow as artists, their debut is still outstanding.
What a day to be alive. (Possibly) the best debut album ever. Kicks ass from the opening two chord slashes of Good Times Bad Times through to the unrelenting drive of the final track. Let's overlook the blatant plagiarism for the moment and focus on the musicianship. A fabulous 5*
Millions of words have been penned about Led Zep. About their musicianship, about the plagiarism, etc. This album is screams childhood. Blasting it while my dad zoomed down the M4. Then maybe swap to Budgie or Black Sababth. I can't not give this five stars.
So good
perfect!
Led Zeppelin es un referente del rock, este álbum es un clásico y una joya, es excelente.
Peter Adams was cool AF. He's still an unusually skilled musician, and also cool AF. Peter Adams' brother, though, was... 4 years older? 5? He played an aged Fender Stratocaster was a soupcon of weed and tobacco, and owned a Twin Reverb that was an altar to ROCK. Long stringy hair... sparse blonde beard... HE was cool AF. ANother one: I'm 15, and I love guitar. I'd heard Musette and Drums (huuuuuge Thanks to Annie) and I was obsessed. So I took Jazz Band at LHS... an opportunity I'm still amazed even existed in 1985. Holdover from the NEA bounty of the 60s-70s for public education. I was a sophomore. In the class was a long tall dude, a senior, with shaggy black hair. He would rip a solo before class started, every time... and 9 times out of 10, it was "Whole Lotta Love" by Zeppelin. Suffice it to say, Zeppelin was a titan in the cultural universe of my suburban white liberal town. Zeppelin tied me back a couple high school graduating classes to the era at LHS when smoking was allowed on campus, students all had hall passes and Open Campus, and weed was regarded as a tolerable nuisance by the school administration. When Rock rode the halls unbridled and unashamed. Our elder brothers and older cousins, the guys a part of me wanted to BE, took Zeppelin as gospel, Jimmy Page as a satanic prophet, and the pro-sex pro-drugs pro "mind-expansion era of the early 70s--Zeppelin's heyday, as the best and mightiest way of life ever invented. So yeah, I listened to a LOT of Zeppelin. Zeppelin III was Aaron and I getting high and wandering around Bard, and Tufts, and the woods of Lexington. Zeppelin II was a cassette that filled me with abyssal desires, mostly alone with my stereo. Physical Graffiti was a numinous missive from the mighty halls of The Furthest Rock Could Go. Also Jack White stole sooooo much from Zeppelin. And made good things with it.
Few albums have such a distinct opening track like Led Zeppelin with the two beats followed by the hi hat count. It set the scene for what would become the band Led Zeppelin. They started the movement towards hard rock, leading to bands like Black Sabbath, Creedance Clearwater Revival, others. The album is an ode to the blues, with Jimmy Page masterfully building up emotional riffs while John Paul Jones and John Bonham kept the beat with Robert Plant adding haunting vocals to accompany adding haunting vocals to accompany Page's riffs.
Great album
Una obga de agte
Great debut by a great band. It hits you in the face from the start with Good Times, Bad Times and then it doesn't stop, even with the slower bluesier songs like I Can't Quit You Baby. Biggest Hit - Babe I'm Gonna Leave You Biggest Miss (if I had to choose) - Black Mountain Side Not So Hidden Gem - How Many More Times
I love this album. One of my favorite bands, and I’ve heard this album a thousand times, but it never gets old.
Is there any other option but 5? The vocals, the guitar, the storytelling, everything about the ride of this album is incredible. Dazed and confused and Communication breakdown are songs I sing to myself weekly.
Completely game changing album, and they went on to get even better.
3/14 Classic album
What more can I say?
Super good. Zed Leppelin
While I think there are too many Zeppelin albums on this list (this is already, what, our fourth?), this one is justified. For starters, the riff on “Dazed and Confused” is molten lava. Come on. Secondly, “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You” just crushes with its mix of emotionally raw, amped-up blues rock and psychedelia. Yes, you have to endure the two indulgent Willie Dixon covers, but Robert Plant mostly avoids the cliched bluesman affects he would entertain on subsequent releases and is in great voice. The band behind him sound fantastic, with Bonham’s drumming and Page’s guitar playing summoning fire. Overall, the band sound exciting and fully formed on their debut, without the baggage of fame, ego and other trappings that quickly took root.
Hard asf. Sounds very grand
Can’t go wrong with most Led Zeppelin albums Not my favorite Led Zeppelin album but definitely not my least favorite. A very solid album that is similar to most of their popular tracks, no misses, but doesn’t reach the peaks that some of their later work hits. Still a great album all around
This is one of my favorite albums of all time. I’ve been listening to this since I was a kid, and it never gets old. The music takes you on a journey that’s easy to get lost in. This is definitely a “no-skip” album for me!
3/4 Zeppelin picks at exactly 150 albums in, and still no Rolling Stones is kind of wild. I'm supposed to review the OG Led Zeppelin album? It speaks for itself.
Cutting edge rock by four of the most amazing individuals who picked up an instrument, pure synergy.
While this barely cracks my top 5 Led Zeppelin albums it still is damn good. The harder faster songs work really well with the slower bluesier songs. Legendary riffs and some of best bass work and drumming around. Led Zeppelin is one of the few bands where each member could have an argument for being one of the best at their respective instrument ever.
Classic album. The start of something great!
10/10 Love the blues on their debut album.. this is a perfect record for me
"Your Time Is Gonna Come" foregriper Led Zeppelin 2?
Goeddd
Spectacular album. Guitars ripping, some fast paced song, some slaw and soulful. There is passion and emotion in this one.
You can’t tell the story of rock n roll without this album. Easily one of the greatest debuts of all time.
I own this on vinyl. Groundbreaking album. Hugely influential for decades to come
a classic!
Astounding album, truly brilliant to listen to. Dazed and Confused was my song of the album and Your Time Is Gonna Come (my fav first listen of the album) and I Can't Quit You Baby were my other highlights
blues / rock!?
5/5
The writing on this is so musical. Everything about this album is superb. It starts amazing and ends amazing.
10/10
Will listen to it again
How do I sum up my favourite album by one of my favourite artists? Led Zeppelin I is by far my most played record. I think it's sheer perfection. What an amazing introduction to the band! Fun fact: My cat fucking hates this album. His disdain has not dimmed over time; every time I spin this record he glares and huffs and shows his annoyance. He is the biggest Led Zeppelin hater and it is hilarious.
It's sometimes easy to forget this record is almost 60 years old with how well it holds up to this day. Moody, energetic, and electric; fresh and purely out of love for crafting, composing, and experimenting, creating. Without Led Zeppelin there would be no metal or rock or punk to speak of today. Favorite songs: Good Times Bad Times, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, I Can't Quit You Baby 9/10
Arguably the greatest album of the greatest rock band ever
Good Times Bad Times is another strong contender for best first track off a debut album. Dazed and Confused is another great song. Led Zeppelin is one of the few bands that had an amazing debut album and was able to maintain or top it in following efforts. A truly amazing group, so much talent in four guys. Your Time Is Gonna Come is my favorite song from the album, and that is really saying something. One of the greatest bands of all time. I'm guessing that for Jack White hearing Led Zeppelin for the first time was similar to losing his virginity. How Many More Times is a tremendous album track.
I really enjoyed this album
Classic ofc
wonder how many LZ albums will be on this list.
10/10 best album ever i love led zep yayayayayayyayyay so happy i got this today okay bye
When people say 'Beatles or Stones', I say Zeppelin. This is the band at their most raw. If ore the thievery if you can and focus on how they took any song they touched and made it unmistakably theirs.
Listened to a million times in high school but still a banger
After a long dry spell, another great album has made it onto my version of the list. Here, too, I'm impressed by how much extraordinary music can be found on a debut album. Dazed and Confused is one of my all-time favorite songs. I found the story behind it all the more exciting when I heard the original by Jake Holmes for the first time. In fact, I think his version is even better than the cover. I also find the rather tragic story of Jake Holmes touching. 5/5
Led Zeppelin are so good. The opening to this in particular is unbeatable. Not my go to record from them but it’s still really great.
I like this album a lot. I found it to be very cool.
I hear Bonham, I give 5 stars
This album really blows my mind. And this was their DEBUT. You hear the roots of folk and blues, but Zeppelin takes everything to a completely new level of rock. I have so many favorites! "Dazed and Confused," "Black Mountain Side," and "Communication Breakdown" are the top.
This absolutely knocked me out when it was released in 1969. It’s still a joy to listen to. Jimmy Page will never get any kudos for being a decent person, but he knew what he was doing when he put together this band and musical direction. The album is perfect.
There is no bad song on this album. Everything is perfect: lyrics, guitar, drums, voice, etc etc etc. I LOVE THIS ALBUM SO MUCH. I grew up listening to it through my family so its sound is very familiar. It's just such a classic album. My favorites are "Good times bad times", "Babe I'm gonna leave you", "Dazed and confused" (obviously), and "communication breakdown"
GTFO, this is an all timer!! One of the greatest debut albums of them all. Just killer.
All time classic
How many five star albums can I give to Led Zeppelin? I think that's the real question. Listened to this probably hundreds of times in my life so far, listening to it today, and will listen to it hundreds of more times. Thinking through it, and the albums I'm assuming are coming from LZ, I think this still makes five stars. There are no skips on this album and even Black Mountain Side is pretty awesome and if that's the "low point" on your debut album then something has gone terribly right. And to have the audacity to close with How Many More Times? Get out of here.
Nice
I've listened to most of the Led Zep albums 100s of times. All 5 star winners
One of those epic debut albums.
I absolutely LOVE Led Zeppelin. and my silliest break up story is due to my bf at the time playing the second song to me in spring, and me believing it was him hinting to a break up that i had to act first. thanks Led Zeppelin for the funny memories!
An explosive debut by a quartet that would change rock music forever. A solid album that really exhibits the talents of all four musicians. Love it. Highlights: "Good Times Bad Times", "Communication Breakdown" and "Your Time is Gonna Come"
Certainly in the conversation when people talk about the greatest debut album ever. These guys hit the ground running and never looked back!
Top 25 all time album - maybe top 10, have listened to it in its entirety so many times, maybe 200 - 40 years at 5 times a year? May be a lot more. Listened today while power skiing (nearly rage skiing) & sung most of the album while jamming hard, made me miss Shady a lot.
My second Zeppelin album on this list and one I’m familiar with from years ago, but haven’t listened front to back in a long time. Filled with so many great now classic rock songs. Such a defined sound for a band to have for a debut album. Great guitar solos, great vocals. Kick ass drumming and bass play. What else could you want in a classic rock sound. Definitely one of the greatest rock albums of all time, especially influential in so much that came later, and only Zeppelin’s first album of a string of greats. Love the Blues sound mixed with their energetic hard rock. It’s great. It doesn’t have some of that whimsical folk acoustic Tolkien inspired sound you hear on some later albums, but this really doesn’t need anything like that. There’s really nothing bad here. An easy 5 for me on re-listen. And makes you just want to listen to more Led Zeppelin.
I was very much late to the party with Zeppelin! When I started collecting vinyl on 2014, my intention was to use it to work backwards in my musical knowledge. Within a year I owned the first 3 Zeppelin albums and they were one of the early 'winners' of the process. Incidentally, the these 3 albums were bought in 3 different countries (France, Spain and Italy), with this one being bought from a market stall in Pisa. I don't know which album of theirs is my fave, it tends to be the one I'm listening to but I admit I'm a complete sucker for the raw, unpolished bluesy-ness of this debut and it contains possibly my fave song of theirs in Dazed and Confused. There's just something about that descending bass-line and squalling guitar that gets me! I had Jeff Beck's album, Truth in this challenge a couple of weeks ago and whilst it preceded this and many would argue that Zeppelin heavily borrowed from his style. For me they just do it much better though and that's epitomised in their shared cover of You Shook Me which is a stand out track here. But the whole album is just chocked full of brilliant songs, from the thunderous, bluesy bravado of Good Times Bad Times, through the fast, frantic blast of _Communication Breakdown_to the tormented blues confession of I Can’t Quit You Baby, I just don't think they put a foot wrong here and it's easy to forget with the success that quickly followed that this was a debut.
One of the most perfect debuts a band could ever make. Led Zeppelin bust out of the gate fully swinging with their signature sound that they would build on throughout the years. Not a single wasted moment, even the filler songs serve a purpose. There's a tight rawness in Jimmy Page's guitar sound that for some reason never got revisited on later albums.
Every song is a classic
Этот альбом, как глоток хорошего вискаря. Вот прям как нужно. Правильный. На полочку в любимые однозначно.
I could give it a 4* given it’s not my actual favourite Led Zep album, but seriously it’s amazing
Classic. Pretty much every track would be on a Led Zep best of. More psychedelic than I remembered, lots of echoplex and phase/flange effects. Some days this is my favourite zep record
Totally my bluesy jam
Their FIRST album...pretty much hit the ground running didn't they!!? ...and continued to rock for a few more years after. Babe I'm Gunna Leave you has everything a rock song requires...I ain't jokin' woman!
Blues rock ripoffs in the best possible way
Legendary band's legendary debut album. Pitchfork: 9.1 Rolling Stone: Top 500 Albums #101 Best Songs - so many.... Good Times Bad Times Babe I'm Gonna Leave You Dazed and Confused Communication Breakdown I Can't Quit You Baby
It has been way to long since I have listened to LZ. I forgot how much I love their music. Easy five stars
Ground breaking hard rock with blues inflection. Great vocals and great guitar playing!
This is it, my favourite Zeppelin. What a debut! 5/5
Oh so good, what a way to introduce a band
Tämä on mielestäni yksi parhaista ekoista levyistä millään bändillä. Kaikki biisit on killereitä ja tätä on tullut jo 80-luvulta kuunneltua koko ajan. 6/5.
How old were they when they recorded this? Between 20 and 24? I didn't know who played the keyboards on this album and had to look it up. Jeez JPJ was talented, I had no idea. Of course they all were. It's a great debut album. Yeah some of the tracks are a bit long (You Shook Me) and slow blues has never really grabbed me by the balls, but there's no doubting that they started something big, and even Dazed And Confused became an earworm. Whooda thunk. 4½
Another legendary album. I truly believe they haven't made a bad album or even a bad song. Top tier musicianship and band
The OG rock album
Hell yeah! Great album top to bottom. A lovely hazy mix of blues, rock, and psychedelia. Each song is crafted excellently. For a debut, this is top notch stuff. Only complaint is that it can be a little overblown and screechy at times, which takes me out of the zone a bit. 9/10
This album is just four incredibly talented musicians fully flexing the freedom that their insane skills afford them. Every instrument is bursting with personality. Are they saying anything all that profound? Not lyrically, but musically, yes. This album feels present and alive. Another band with incredible personality is the Beatles, but whereas the Beatles personality seem to stem from the boys themselves, their voices and melodies, Zeppelin's personalities live in their actual instruments. Pick any of the four at any point in any of the songs and each will tell you a different, captivating story while still supporting the whole.
Super Dope
*listened before the project* Taking off! And you already knew that:)
LZ needed to be better about attribution but my two faves - Communication Breakdown and Good Times Bad Times - are all their own.
Not many albums from 1969 hold up like this.
A masterpiece
it's iconic and it's not endless, so sure
I'm not usually a big zeppelin guy but I can't deny that this one rules
This has to be the best debut album of all time. I love every second of it and would give it 10 stars if I could. Led Zeppelin were the band that got me into rock music and honestly just music in general. I never get bored of Robert Plant's incredible voice and Jimmy Page's electricrifying guitar playing. This album has no skips but my favourite songs have to be: babe I'm gonna leave you and dazed and confused
Kids in high school will always listen to this album.
Phenomenal. Debut albums like this are difficult to put in words. I thought I was blown away by Guns N Roses’ Appetite for Destruction but this is on another planet. Rock, blues and more. Robert Plant’s voice. All of the instrumentation from guitar to drums to harmonica! The heart & soul in it all. Just wow.
Wall to wall bangers
Song after song of excellence.
Oof. What a debut
The blues, the classics rock, the innovation of the music. Epic. No notes
5/5
If aliens came down and I had to describe rock and roll to them I would just give them this album
excellent, 4.5/5
love led zeppelin <3
This one isn’t really a question.
This is very, very good music, and it's kind of crazy it came out in the 60's. This is most definitely an influential album that 100% deserves to be on this list.
Had heard most of these, but I enjoy 'em
10/10 My favorite band of all time tied with the Beatles, absolutely love their first record too, I know some people dismiss the blues cuts “you shook me” & “I can’t quit you baby” but I think they are essential to this album & showcasing the bands roots. “Good times bad times” may be the best first song on a bands first record, that E power chord & John’s drumming are just so damn iconic, “dazed and confused” is the song that got me into this band when I was in high school & it blew my mind, especially when I’d get stoned, “your time is gonna come” is an absolute gem that I’ve really grown to love over the years especially when I’m feeling down & need a song to sing along to and get myself going & yeah of course-the rest of the album rules too. Favorite song: good times bad times Least favorite: black mountain side
Amazing
Led Zeppelin album for lovers lowkey
А powerful debut album, the guitar riffs are iconic, Robert Plant’s voice is powerful, and full of emotion
Incredible album. Loved it from start to finish. I loved the blues influences all over this album. You can hear the sounds that would go on to influence modern day music. Sonically it sounds amazing. The instrumentals are captivating and they really have space to shine through. The singing sounds amazing and i will be returning to this album
What can you say about this, their debut album? Insanely brilliant - setting the standard for everyone else to follow.
Now that's an album !!!
10/10 - incredible album, babe I'm gonna leave you a particular highlight
Хороший альбом, особенно как дебютник
Excellent
The one that started it all. Hammer of the Gods.
All timer
bardzo dobry album pozdro
Such a classic, so many perfect tracks. Blues me please

Amazing, likely the most authentic LZ sounds
What if you took a seasoned studio session guitarist who had some success with another band that fell apart, grabbed his friend who was also an experienced session musician on bass (and keys and an arranger), then added a 19 yr old kid as your singer, who started singing at 16 and was in another not very successful band, and then added the drummer from the singer's band? You get a group that in retrospect is, without a doubt, one of the greatest rock bands of all time - where each member is widely regarded as at least top 5 at what they do. This album is a 5 star rating with no hesitation. It's a perfect album with no skips, that never gets old. All 9 songs are classics. It's amazing that this is this band's first album. They came out with such confidence and expertise. Many of the songs on here would be any other band's peak but this is them just getting started. The opener (Good Times Bad Times) is an original song that announces what Zeppelin is and starts with an unforgettable heavy guitar and drum riff. They add organ (by bassist John Paul Jones) to several songs - with particularly great effect on "You're Time is Gonna Come" - to take these songs in a unique direction. They also add an instrumental song ("Black Mountain Side") which is just an acoustic guitar and tabla. The album has 5 inspired reworkings of classic blues and folk songs - alongside 4 incredible originals. The whole album showcases their melding of blues, folk, and hard rock with complex arrangements into something all their own, with totally unique singing. Over time, you can see how the future Led Zeppelin albums continue to expand and improve on this starting point AND entire genres of rock and roll were inspired by this, with current bands (in 2026) still mining this sound - 57 years later! Liked songs on Spotify: 9/9 (Perfect Album) Rating: 5/5
Wonderful album, heard it years ago on a less capable audio system, and now on a much better system, I felt things that I didn't know were there. Blew my mind all over again.
Banger. Would happily listen to this entire album again. Good Times Bad Times ★★★★★ Babe I’m Gonna Leave You ★★★★☆ You Shook Me ★★★★☆ Dazed and Confused ★★★★☆ Your Time Is Gonna Come ★★★☆☆ Black Mountain Side ★★★☆☆ Communication Breakdown ★★★★☆ I Can’t Quit You Baby ★★★★☆ How Many More Times ★★★★☆ Average Album Rating: 3.9/5.0 ★★★★☆
Know your history. They didn’t invent the blues. But this is still pretty awsome.
10/10 MALDITA SEA LEVITE TODO EL PUTO ALBUM
Increadible
Absolutely unreal. Bluesy, emotive and full of creativity.
There is quite some pretentiousness on this album, but somehow it fits the vocal style of Robert Plant like a glove. Great debut, with lots of very nice songs on it. 5/5
Breakthrough, ahead of its time. Shows why Led Zeppelin are true masters of their craft
What can I say? It's Led Zeppelin. Brilliant songs, fantastic playing, great voice. The fact that this was their debut album is amazing! My fave tracks include 'Babe I'm Gonna Leave You' and Dazed and Confused'.
yeaaaaaaah i’m rocking with this
An all time great debut rock album
Gran debut de un grupo fundamental en el rock con muy buenos discos hasta el final. Un hito
It's a good album, that's well documented, I'll give it it's 5 stars, that's not really up for debate. I'm not going to sit through it again though; I had my Led Zep phase back in college, that was enough for me.
What a feat.
Wow wow wow, still simply outstanding! There is no more simple test for the greatest of recorded music, than the question: could I listen to this once a week for the rest of my life? The answer here is a resounding YES! Oh baby it’s hard to believe 4 guys could put out such a great sounding recording. We also need to acknowledge a slew of American Blues artists who wrote and inspired many snippets (some not credited). At least Willie Dixon got some credit for his work.
Ayuh, we should be hearin’ some fuckin’ Zeppelin!!!
Jimmy Page is my favorite person in the history of forever. Love Zepp, and love this album!
No sé cómo no lo había escuchado antes. Me ha encantado. Puro hard rock con psicodelia y blues y solos interminables. En Madrid a 20 de diciembre, un sábado en la linea 3
When you find shirts in hot topic with this album cover on it, you know it's pretty much perfect
Love this album soo much actually just love all of led zeppelin 🫶🫶
Greatest debut album ever? Definitely one of them at least.
5 stars for deservedly being on this list and the impact. The opening notes and build up is just something else. Actual rating would be closer to 4 stars, later led Zeppelin is no doubt better and not every song is 5 stars worthy, but the complete package and impact is undeniable
Great fuxking album
This album is a magnificent combination of incredible vocals, mesmerizing electric and acoustic guitar playing, those drums, plus other perfectly matched instruments thrown in there. I don't know if they sold their souls to the devil for music, but if they did, it surely worked!
Always always loved this album
This album is iconic. 5/5. No doubt.
Melhor do álbum: "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You". Pior do álbum: "Communication Breakdown".
Um debut é um debut
I didn't realize how much I was going to enjoy led Zeppelin. Real musicians not just playing chords
Favorite Track: Good Times Bad Times
Great album and the song "Good Times Bad Times" is SUCH a great introduction to the rest of the album and I'd say it's a quitessential early LZ song
'Good Times Bad Times' is as much a declaration of intent as it is an album opener. In 1969, the same year that the Beatles released Abbey Road, Led Zeppelin kicked off their debut with a complex, fascinating drum solo and followed it with fire. Hopefully you've listened to a whole bunch of music before you reach this point in The List. I reached Zeppelin I on album 196. The way this record stands out from contemporaneous and preceding works is striking. Page put together a band that refined something new. The references to the Blues are there ('You Shook Me' is a pretty straight Muddy Waters cover), as are the references to British folk music ('Black Mountain Side') and some things are just new ('Good Times', 'Communication Breakdown'). 'Your Time Is Gonna Come' is pulled right from the American South -- among the choir, the laid-back acoustic guitar, the organ and the general theme, it's a wonder The Swampers don't feature on this one. So much has been written about Led Zeppelin (band and album) that there's little point in pissing into that ocean. What you *should* do is just crank this up on some good headphones or speakers. Particularly as compared to its contemporaries (Hendrix, Cream, the preceding Yardbirds), this doesn't sound much like any one band. Moreover, not much later gets the Zeppelin alloy exactly right -- the 70's saw the furious development (and success!) of ever-more-ambitious music in terms of instrumentation, composition and synthesizing an ever-wider set of influences but none sounded quite like the Zeppelin magic. Bonham is not a perfectly precise timekeeper (no click tracks, back then) but that allows songs to flex just a little for their best emotional affect. Page is actually just a little sloppy in his playing, as compared to some later greats. John Paul Jones is a musical Terminator and nothing intimidates or sways him. Plant is both swaggering and vulnerable. All of this contributes to the feel of a band channeling genuine emotion, no matter how many takes it actually required to get a song in the can. Just put on Zeppelin I, cast your mind back to a time when TV, radio and newspapers were the only mass media and records were the predominant form of popular culture for the young. Listen to Abbey Road first and see how this follows. This is a work of genius, top to bottom, from player to player, production, engineering, writing. It's the Magna Carta of rock & roll. 5/5 and get outta here if you differ.
Jesus Christ what a debut album. Good times bad times just fucking kicks down the door. But this pony knows more than one trick. We’ve got multiple entries of folk rock (babe, your time is gonna come, black mountain side), a lil punk, and plenty of blues. Led Zeppelin isn’t the best band of all time, but they’re the best rock band of all time and I love the early lean towards the blues
Meant to be listened to at eleven, make the neighbors call the cops complaining about the noise. I don't know how many bands can make the same fucking album five times in a row with a sixth double album at the end of it and have them all be five stars.
What a way to kickoff a band. Good Times has so many licks, every tootsie pop in town is running scared. Then you think it’s slowing down with some sultry Spanish guitar, a little heat from Robert Plant, a trippy bridge, and then a full force finish. Damn it Led, I didn’t even make it to song 3 before You Shook Me. Track 3: Heavy, harmonica, honk, *chef’s kiss*. Then the low down scoundrel of Dazed and Confused (alright, alright, alright) before Bonham blasts your damn head off going into the solo. I kind of forgot about Your Time is Gonna Come, but it’s a Certified BangerTM. Then the smoothest transition into Black Mountain Slide, which I don’t know where it came from, but let’s get more of that, stat. Communication Breakdown also a Certified BangerTM, but also feels out of left field after the last few tracks. A little blues wind down, and then the grand finale. Despite its long run time, How Many More Times has so much going on, so many different parts, each as good as the last, tied together by that groovy bass riff, that you barely notice that 8.5 minutes have passed. In general, probably the greatest debut album of all time. P.S. I forgot about all the back and forth between Plant and Page’s guitar, what a great bit
What an incredible album. The point where blues fused with rock.
Even whilst not being the best Zeppelin album, it's still a banger.
Un grand classique!
- robert platt's voice is INSANE - jimmy shredded that guitar - hard as hell
Crazy to think that this is their first album...
Fantastic album, wasn’t expecting anything but a 5
I mean it's Led Zep... one of the best debuts of all time!
I get the different arguments for why I should hate them, but I can’t help myself. Dazed and Confused was one of those songs that changed me.
Just incredible
Funnily enough I just listened to this a couple weeks ago to cleanse my ears from the slew of crappy albums this website had assigned me, so you can probably already tell where this review is headed. Is it a good record? Yes. Is it a perfect record? You know...if it had to stand alone apart from the rest of Zeppelin's discography, probably yes. But comparatively, I think they just get better and better as the years go on. This one suffers from a fairly standard side B. Yeah it's all blues rock, sure, but there's something a little more unique and definitively Zeppelin about the first half. Even though when I compare it to the likes of II, III, IV, Houses of the Holy, and Physical Graffiti it falls a little flat, it's still easily a 5-star album.
I’d give a 5 just for good times bad times, best opener EVER and one of my all time favorite tracks. Out of nowhere they show up w this sound ‘hi we’re led zeppelin’ 🥰😍😍😍🥰 lovelovelove
Perfect
Some albums are really hard to write about, because what hasn't been said about the LZ debut? It's part of my DNA, I still remember listening to this when I was 14 and just playing it over and over again. It's not my favorite of theirs, but there isn't a second here that I don't love. One of the great debuts and one of the albums that had such a massive effect on what came after it that you forget it doesn't sound like everything else, everything else sounds like it
9.5/10
One of the best debuts ever.
Very good
I love this album. I still cannot fathom getting this album, not knowing the band, putting this on and hearing the opening track for the first time. Absolutely mind blowing.
Wow! 1969 was my 1st year of college and this record was as important as any other and ranks with Hendrix et al. I still listen to it from time to time. A+
Incredible
Classic!
SO GOOD SO GOOD SO GOOD SO GOOD SO GOOD SO GOOD SO GOOD SO GOOD SO GOOD SO GOOD SO GOOD SO GOOD SO GOOD SO GOOD SO GOOD SO GOOD SO GOOD SO GOOD SO GOOD SO GOOD SO GOOD SO GOOD
Yeahhhh
Superb, unique and unparalleled
How can you not
I remember visiting Dan & Sue after this came out and listening to it there. They only had a handful of albums as I recall — e.g., debuts from The Doors and Traffic, Days of Future Past by The Moody Blues. What a debut LP this is, all swagger and blues, with great production. If you haven’t seen the documentary on LZ, Becoming Led Zeppelin, it covers their formation and this first album, stopping right after LZ II is released in 1970. Highiy recommended. Side 2 doesn’t quite match side 1, but this is still a solid 5 for me.
I'm not the biggest Led Zep fan but this is a killer debut album. It's raw and intense with awesome riffs and vocals. Even the more blues-y stuff still goes pretty hard. They had a legendary run of albums after this and I'm eager to hear more.
It's not often that the vocalist uses more WAH than the guitarist
All time great album.
CLASSIC! A must hear LP!
Great album. Babe I’m Gonna Leave You is probably in my top songs of all time. Fantastic vocals, great guitar both electric and acoustic. Brilliant album overall
If I have to listen to Paul Simon to get to listen to this then I will do it. Is this the greatest debut album of all time? It has to be high up there. The only other two I can think of are very biased but maybe is this it or the blue album. Crazy to come out of the gate with such strong songs and already mostly realized direction. They do only get better from here but the bar is set very high.
One of the best debut albums of all time. Good times, bad times might be my favorite Zeppelin song. There's so much here that still sounds great almost 60 years later. Only qualm is that Plant's vocal moaning gets stale by the end of the record. Bonham's drumming is so good that it influenced drumming forever. I think this band is going places 5/5
Really good. Could listen to it over and over.
Wow!!!!! Kinda kicks you in the balls and stomps on your head and leaves you shouting MORE!!!!
Led Zeppelin is a 5-star band. This is probably not their best album and I still think it deserves five stars. Though to be fair to this album it has a lot more going for it than I previously thought.
This album slaps top to bottom and side to side. The hardest part about listening to this album is restraining myself from listening to the rest of the discography.
Classic Stuff!!
This is my favorite Led Zeppelin album of all time. I remember being younger and getting into rock because of this record. I don't think I can describe how it felt to listen to "Babe I'm gonna leave you" for the first time, it just altered my brain chemistry forever.
Incredible
Amazing. Incredible from start to finish.
Best Song: Dazed and Confused If there were a Mount Rushmore of the best rock bands ever, Led Zeppelin would be right in the middle. This isn't there best album but it is better than 90% of other bands best albums so take that as a win. 5/5.
Zep 1. Easy 5 stars.
Sounds best on 1972 Canadian vinyl pressing, mastered by Barry Diament.
YOOOUUURRR TIME IS GONNA COOOOMMEE!!! Yeah this a strong debut from one of the greatest bands in history.
Yes
Sometimes I like to daydream about what it must've felt like to be a teenager in the late 60s. It's so hard for me to get my head around how such a radical shift in music happened in just a few years. Just imagine dropping the needle on the debut album of this band you'd heard about from your friends, to hear Good Times, Bad Times followed by Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, shortly followed by Dazed and Confused! If those songs give me goosebumps today they would've melted my brain back then. Even amongst the stellar albums released in 1967-1969 this stands out as one of the best, and one of the best debuts of all time...and they'd go on to better it a couple of times too!
Even though they couldn’t get Keith Moon or John Entwhistle to join the lineup, things turned out pretty well for this band.
Page knew what he was doing when he assembled this band: Each one an incredible artist. Amazing blues; amazing debut album.
So much talent, especially on a debut album. All killer stuff.
Really really good. Hits and deep cuts did well
It's honestly very difficult to name a better debut album from any band, ever. Good Times Bad Times Babe I'm Gonna Leave You You Shook Me Dazed and Confused Your Time Is Gonna Comes Black Mountain Side Communication Breakdown I Can't Quit You Baby How Many More Times? Absolutely mind-blowing track list from a band that was totally unknown of before the album. They basically came out of nowhere and changed rock and roll forever.
One of the most classic rock albums of all time. Many of the songs iconic
classic rock at its best. really dynamic stuff. quiet slow melodies that progressivly grow into some awesome belting rock, fantastic solos and musical breaks. i'm only on the second song but theres no way this doesnt get 5 stars so here we go
One of the greatest
