2.5 stars. Weird and disjointed. Enough pop to keep the strange avant-garde listenable. Her voice is the worst part, singing is not her forte. Standout is "Venus As a Boy" which has a pretty string and ethereal electronica compliment.

It was cool. Her voice is def eerie but I liked some of the songs . Nothing life changing.

Interesting compositions that are often cleverly delivered, but as a listener, I have to ask myself if it does anything for me, beside making me say "oh, that part was pretty cool" every once in a while. It's one of those things I can enjoy on some level if it's on, but I can't picture myself listening to her album on purpose.

It’s alright, i forgot how much Venus as a Boy and Big Time Sensuality were played back in the day. Every DJ in the 90’s had a version of Big Time Sensuality.

This was surprising. I am not too familiar with Bjork’s music and this was the first time I have ever intently listened to it. I liked this more than I would have thought. Her vocals are truly something special. 3.5/5 Might listen again

Björk is such an interesting artist and is basically in her own genre. Love that. Just not sure if I’ll ever really feel like revisiting this specific project.

I wasn't surprised that I really didn't like a few of these songs, but I was surprised that many of them were decent and dare I say jammy. Rating 3.4 stars rounded to 3.

Björk makes me feel what folks who didn't study contemporary art feel when looking at it- I have no idea what this is, I don't think I like it, but I feel like I think it's important and there are clearly lots of people who get it, so I will just smile and move on. Decent background music. I think I need drugs to get it, though. Update: the more I listen to this the more I think I like it. I think I'm getting it.

Good listen if you’re feeling weird

first time listening to bjork, i believe. initial thoughts: not really a fan, but will push through the listening session because hopefully i at least like one track! update: "venus as a boy" is growing on me. added it to the 1001 playlist. update: i enjoyed the last track "play dead" the most. always a big fan of an orchestra added to the production. the strings sounded really cool and the brass part was a nice touch.

Yeah, I'm not liking this one. It's a bit obnoxiously pop-esque and loud in places. Plus, the music seems kinda empty and generic. I'm not getting anything genuine from the lyrics. I also don't like the artist's voice that much. She gets a little screechy at time. But maybe that's just me.

Saying her name is more fun than listen to her music. Bjork! At least - that's what I thought. After listening to this, I still don't think I'd say I'm a fan, but she has a unique style and a really interesting voice. It's different in a good way.

1. Human Behaviour - definitely an interesting song...i like the music, i don't get the purpose of having gibberish sections? 2. Crying - got a really cool sound, and pretty boppy. I don't know why but the verses were giving me Lorde. 3. Venus as a Boy - I did not like this song very much. 4. There’s More to Life Than This - the music of this song is really boppy, it's giving like dance music, so that's cool. I did not like how after the first chorus it lost the instrumental and became kinda acapella? 5. Like Someone in Love - pretty ballady so didn't love it as the vocals were not it for me. 6. Big Time Sensuality - again the music is pretty poppy. it's like dance music. 7. One Day - it's got an interesting sound but not my favourite. Goes way too long imo. 8. Aeroplane - I can’t get over her weird vocal style tbh. 9. Come to Me - nice vibe and I really liked the music. 10. Violently Happy - interesting vocal effect. Again like the music. 11. The Anchor Song - this one is kinda jazzy not loving it and it doesn’t fit great in the album imo. 12. Play Dead - now this is a bop! Finally I feel like the music matches the tone of singing, the others had a weird juxtaposition. Overall, I didn’t mind it and it’s quite cool that she uses house and electronic elements but I also just don’t love her vocal style and her lyrics don’t really resonate with me. Also hot take she kinda reminds me of Lorde…

Bjork is what I would call an acquired taste. It’s certainly not a bad album but also probably not an album for my morning commute. The “hits” from the album: Human Behavior, Big Time Sensuality, and The Anchor song are all decent tunes. Some of the other songs sort of just blend in and sound like one of these theee songs’ outtakes

What the what?!? Two Bjork-bums in a row? This shit’s getting crazy now. Also, I’m glad they didn’t do this with Kid Rock or we’d probably have all just up and quit. Definitely liked this Bjork better than the other Bjork; where that one Bjorked a little too hard to the left, I think this one Bjorks a bit more down the middle, which I guess is where my Bjork-taste Bjorks most Bjorkably. Love “Human Behaviour” and always have. “Big Time Sensuality,” like several songs here seems to suffer from instrumentation/beats that are showing their age in a way that feels so much safer than the vocals on top of them. “Anchor” was new to me and a nice discovery. Can see her closing the album as if to say “This is where I’ll be heading in the future,” but more importantly it was just a lush, pretty song. It’s still a three star package to me, but if there’s more Bjork to be had I’m a bit more hopeful that one of these things is going to make a mark on me.

I can think of no scenarios where I would play this music. It’s talented, it’s unique, it’s also free form and hard to absorb. The singing style is controlled chaos, lots yelling and and chorus chants, a bit tribal. The music mixes 90s flair and r&B, a bit like a Casio keyboards backing tracks.

I got Medúlla 102 albums ago and really quite enjoyed it's oddness. I was expecting this to be more strange as well - not necessarily at that level. But it seemed surprisingly conventional and, frankly, a little bit (just a little) boring. Perhaps I was just expecting something that I had no right to expect. But I doubt I'll listen to this one again.

There is a certain nostalgia to the album. It has that very 90s feel, but Bjork's song craft often elevates the songs in different moments. There are many humdrum passages followed by dramatic moments of beauty. A great debut indeed.

I know very little of Bjork (dont forget the umlaut!) nor the electronic pop (House?) genre. However, I enjoyed the album nonetheless I could get into this genre a bit more for sure after listening to this album, solid focus music. It's basically an intense video game soundtrack with a singer with a cute/powerful voice on top!

Human Behaviour didn't do much for me, but I can dig the hook on Crying. This is a really tame Bjork album by the standards of her others, with things being relatively straightforward beats and recognizable song structures. You can see the start of her expiramentation with the medium, but its just a glimpse. The back half of the album is kinda stale. Violently Happy is probably my favorite track on the album, but the rest of it i dont care either way.

Een kunstig plaatje. Nadeel van kunst is. Het moet je grijpen. En dat doen sommige nummers zeker niet (The Anchor Song). Tegelijk staan er ook een paar nummers op die prima passen in het begin van de jaren '90 (Violently Happy). Het album hinkt wat op twee gedachten. Inmiddels de tweede plaat van Björk. Op basis daarvan trek ik de conclusie dat je Björk per nummer moet luisteren. Een album is simpelweg teveel.

Generally kinda weird but not awful

I rather liked some of this record. It certainly seems a lot less experimental (read: unpleasantly odd) than some of her other records.

Iceland's queen, and most famous artist. She is like the definition of art pop in both a positive and negative way. Overall this is an interesting album because she is willing to be really weird with how she sings and the production. It's not the most experimental thing I have listened to, but it is still a deviation from the cookie-cutter pop that gets shat out even in the 90s. It is interesting to think how this would sound with more modern production. Overall not bad, but not really my vibe. A solid 3/5

Calling your debut solo album, ‘Debut’, cheek or laziness? At least it is understandable: you ever tried ordering a vespertine in a brasserie? The chef came out to tell me to fuck off. Much is too twee for me, the irony paper thin - ‘Like Someone In Love’ is cack handed - and a lot of it is boring, Park Lane cocktail lounge music, but I like the hits more than I did back then. Massive Attack at their most violently beige are a fair comparison.

Eclectic as Bjork tends to be, there were songs on this I really liked (particularly the last one) and songs on this that were awful, particularly the very '90s' ones that sounded like spice girls b sides. Always happy to listen to a Bjork album once, guaranteed to be interesting. Just too all over the place to become a proper fan.

Actually listened to this album for the first time in the last couple of years. She's definitely interesting, you can't deny that. I do like some of the tracks on this, particularly Venus as a boy and big time sensuality. Not sure I'd really choose to listen to it again, bit I don't dislike it

This was interesting, I like her voice, a few songs I already knew and a few that passed by in a dreamlike way. I might be in a Bjork mood in the future and listen again. Three stars.

Once again I'm still fine with Bjork even though it's not my thing but this one was admittedly more dull and straightforward than the other albums I've gotten so far. It makes sense because it's her solo debut but still...I want the weirdness. However, her vocals and even the basic instrumentals are still unique enough to carry it to a low three I think.

I don't know what it is about Bjork. I like individual songs of hers quite a bit. Human Behavior is an absolute favorite of mine, and on paper she's everything I should like, well crafted compositions, sonically adventurous, but I just find myself zoning out on her when I try to listen to a whole album.

Young me would have HATED this album because of Björks style of singing. But I've grown to like her sound. Definitely unique and it's pretty interesting.

Play Dead was one of my favorite songs on the album. Funny how the album review described this as a somewhat poorly-received avant garde album, yet the music and style fits right in to the musical landscape today. Influential indeed, then!

I think this will warrant further listens. Love the first track. Many of the rest I found a little challenging. I need to adapt to the cadences of Ms Gudmundsdottir's voice.

Kinda like a Scandinavian Lorde. Overall alright I just wish it didn’t sound like she was giving birth to the words as much.

I can only imagine what it was like to experience this album back in 1993. There was really just nothing else like this in music that was even remotely mainstream enough to reach American listeners. This album has a very unique and eclectic sound; it dares to be different and finds multiple ways to accomplish that. Having not heard Bjork's Debut before, I am both surprised and not surprised to find that she already had a sense of herself as a recording artist. While she has certainly tried many different things musically across time, her visceral, often raw, often penetrating vocals have been a constant. And the music itself is full of experimental qualities, each track with its own intriguing layers. Speaking of her quality for experimentation, there is a huge amount of diversity just within this album. While this is very generally a form of electronic art pop, it's tough to confine what she's doing here, as she is really all over the place (in a good way).

Cool unique album. Never been a huge house/dance music fan but I enjoyed most of this. Wasn't really sold on the jazzy ballads or some of the cookier sounding beats but overall enjoyed this.

Instrumentally, this sounds like Pretty Hate Machine-era Nine Inch Nails mixed with the Myst soundtrack. I love that. I think I've finally determined that the reason I can't get into her music is the vocals though. I just don't like her singing at ALL.

Björk really just does whatever she wants. This didn’t particularly do it for me but I thought There is More to Life Than This was a fascinating song.

Surprisingly accessible compared to what I expected going in - there are some great uptempo tracks that are digestible on an easy-listening scale, not at all what I thought a Bjork release would look like given her recent LP. The longer tracks drag and tested my patience a bit, but definitely some tracks on this one I see myself returning to.

Björk has always felt like the "high art" version of pop music. It's not bad and there's stuff I like. It's just I find myself wanting to care about it more than I actually do. I give her high marks for seemingly doing whatever the heck she wants to do and that's always a good thing in my book. Still, this is an album that I'll never listen to again but feel guilty that I "don't get her" the way she probably deserves.

First song is a pretty decent intro, catchy and bouncy. Not mad about her voice though. Crying backing track is funky, I dig, these songs are long though. Venus as a Boy is a bit boring. Why is there a live song in the middle of this album? Also that song was weird. Like Someone in Love is a class slow tune for the middle of the album. Suits the voice and the strings are awesome. Big Time Sensuality sounds like the Vengaboys, not a fan. One Day is a good song. Jazz stylings on Aeroplane really make the song, goes with her voice and lyrics. Come To Me is alright, got progressively better. Violently Happy might be best on the album, great use of genre. Love what they did on Anchor Song, amazing finish.

She is so unique. Great voice and style. A lot of exceptional songs. Her version of the 1940s classic, Like Someone in Love is amazing and she brought the classic to a whole new generation of music fans. 3/5

Definitely felt very inspired by EDM from the 80s and early 90s. Had a couple decent songs but overall not my favorite work, even if hers.

I adore “Venus as a Boy”, such a charming, wonderful, slightly freaky tune with lush strings to make it all better. This album indulges as much in the pounding club beats as it explores the more delicate side of Björk, liquid harp and all. I just can’t enough of Björk’s quirky, breathy, sometimes husky and cracked vocals. I might be overthinking this, but I feel like this album is a struggle between the ephemeral and the eternal, the pleasure-seeking of the nightlife and the object of its search: a lasting love.

Just this morning I saw a video of Travis Scott shouting out Bjork and pronouncing it "buhjork" which gave me a nice chuckle to start my day. This debut seems closer to that “Gloomy Sunday” cover Dad used to play for us, the one time I really liked Bjork. This one’s interesting, some very strange musical choices and melodies, plus there’s a handful of dance/club tracks that I wasn’t expecting at all. I think I liked it a little more than the other album we had. Bjork remains an enigma to me. Favorite tracks: Crying, There’s More to Life Than This, Big Time Sensuality. Album art: Just a portrait of a quirky little lady, oops, did I do that? Too coy for her own good. 3/5

I remember liking Human Behavior when this album was released, but haven't posted much attention to Bjork since then. I was curious how this album would play almost 30 years later. I still thoroughly enjoyed Human Behavior and I liked Play Dead. The rest in between the bookends did not grab me. I heard the talent, is a quality production. It's just not my taste. I see now why I never bothered with Bjork much.

In all of her other albums, she's either wailing or whispering, so this was a pleasant surprise. Still not something I would pick up voluntarily. Best track: Venus As A Boy

About what I expected

I had the Sugarcubes drummed into my brain from my film bud Brian Dwyer during high school...I can still recall his concert tee he loved with the band name on it. I however wasn't convinced. Then this album came along and I was a little more on board but it wasn't until Post I finally broke down and actually own anything Bjork , Post and Homogenic are the only two I actually owned, and listening to this all the way through, I am still ok with that.

An excuse to listen to an entire Björk album?! Count me in… Wild to think this album is almost 30 years old as I review it in 2022! Björk‘a sound is so eclectic, like musical potpourri or a jar of spilled confetti. It has upbeat positivity and her voice is totally her own. While it’s not an album I’d have ever thought to listen to, it’s been one that was fun to take in all the same.

Interesting mix of musical styles. I can't really place the genre. Human Nature was the only song I had heard previously. She has an interesting voice and singing style.

J'ai écouté cet album sur le chemin du retour vers le domicile de mon grand-père sous les coups de minuit. Malheureusement, à mi-album, une pluie torrentielle s'est abattu sur moi et a totalement gâché la deuxième partie du CD, ce qui m'empêche de donner plus de trois sur cinq à l'ensemble.

Je me suis régulièrement présenté à vous en tant que défenseur officiel de la cause Bjorkienne, mais là au bout d'un moment il faut pas pousser mémé dans les ortilles.

Somewhat avant-Garde pop album. I'm not that impressed but maybe it was a breath of fresh air in the 90's compared to the other pop music that was going on. It doesn't feel dated and locked into the 90's when comparing to other pop artists during the same era. Björks vocals and lyrics are the best part of the album. The instrumentals are a mix of traditional instruments and electronic club-ish vibes. The album as a whole is OK and the songs transition nicely. It's very well produced. The album got some interesting songs but overall Björk is not really my taste.

This album is her first album despite the name. It is much less Björk and much more enjoyable for my ears' taste. I liked it, and the last song is the best one. After that, I got the idea of her most recent albums and more "experimental" songs, but these are great examples of her talent besides these experimentations.

I can appreciate the influence that Björk had, but she is not for me.

The instrumentation is the most captivating part of this album. The use of many different instruments throughout is noticeable and enjoyable. Her voice is very powerful but overall the songs are too avant garde and electronic/dance for me to come back for more.

Oh Bjork - you lovely weirdo! Generally like a lot of Bjork but this album didn't ressonate with me very much. I did give it two goes through.

Eclectic, varied sound. Very groovy at times, with some jazz inspired moments.

I personally believe this album was a product of it's time, but the sonic landscape was not enduring. Not perso ally for me, but I can at least see some merit on how it ended up on this list.

What can you say about Bjork that isn’t true? I find myself asking “why am I listening to this?” alongside “why don’t I listen to this more?” Is Bjork an early YouTube star pushing limits for likes or a master artist? Who knows? After listening to this album, I have no answers.

When Ayesha Erotica said “I can give you Björk but you wouldn’t understand it” she was talking to me because I don’t really get her vibe at all. I might not be her target audience but I didn’t really enjoy this record. The music was great but her vocals didn’t sit right with me. Maybe this was the vibe on the 90s but now in 2022 it’s not giving much, for me.

As most can tell by this album's name, this is the debut album from Björk. It is her best-selling album in the US with at least 1 million sales only in the states - certifying the album as platinum. The genre is art pop / electronic pop with a dash of house. Reviews of the album were/are mixed - including mine. No one had heard electronic sounds or even vocal noises like this before, so most didn't know what to think of it. I believe this album is overrated, but Björk has some great singing talent. However, a great thing this album did was introduce electronica, house, and EDM music in general to the pop/rock scene that dominated the air waves. This album laid the groundwork for other solo edm-heavy pop singers to come later in the following decades. One could say this album revolutionized modern music, and for that, I have to give it props.

The previous Björk album we had got 5 stars from me. so I was looking forward to this one. Turns out not all Björk albums are created equal. It still has some very interesting parts and I still like her voice. But there's also a lot of unpleasant, dissonant weirdness that just doesn't come together as well as it should.

2/19/2022 Today's Album: "Debut" by Björk - The only thing I had heard about Björk is that it is quite Avant guard music, and that is pretty much what I got. The thing I didn't expect it how dancy this album would be. Most of the tracks have some sort of club beat behind them that gives the instrumental a ton of energy and grove. For that reason I think that these beats are some of the most colorful and well made instrumentals I have heard and I really have to give this album credit for that. However I think that her vocals are really where I have problems. Her voice is the kind of voice that should be put over a soft piano ballad or an acoustic guitar, where the subtlety of the instrumental can give support to the vocal, but when the instrumentals are too energetic, like they are on most of these songs, she gets really drowned out in the mix and often feels off pitch or like there's some sort of weird effect on her voice. This is also paired with her sitting between her head and chest voice for these Alanis Morrissette type moans and I just cant jive with it most time. There are some exceptions though. The song Like Someone In Love is quite sweet as Björk actually strips back the instrumentation for a ballad and it works as well as I described earlier. One Day has a stronger instrumental but its more of a droning, spacy, and entrancing backbeat that lends to Björk's repeated phrases. Aeroplane is also a pretty solid track and makes me feel like this album is picking itself up after a sort of strange start. The mysterious groove and wood percussion pair well with Björk's delivery in a similar way to One Day. Come to Me has a fantastic beginning groove and yet again just gets kind of thrown away with the vocals. Usually I can look past it but it is almost like its frustratingly close to being amazing and Björk is just edging us with these out of tune vocal parts. I appreciate the strings in the background and how chilled out the drum beat is, but this song is just not very much to me. Violently Happy is yet another club track with weird vocals. I don't like it. The Anchor Song is something I can appreciate a little bit more, with her vocal being separated from when the instruments are playing and her poetic writing style shines with the horn chords that are being played. Play dead is an absolutely KILLER instrumental and it is wasted AGAIN. like this could be rapped on and be absolutely saved but it just sucks. Overall, I think Björk is best when she is being subtle and if she is going to make a killer groove, she should feature someone that can actually sing on it. Enjoyed a couple of songs but also not others.

Interesting art pop, some cool beats, low on melody, zero intensity.

I remember listening to this back when I was in my twenties and not liking it at all. After that I kept away from Björk’s work so I want expecting to like it but to my surprise this is very good! Only didn’t like that plane song which is kinda cringe but it’s a great work overall

17th December 2021 Listened in the morning and finished off on a walk to safeway in vancouver before we went to lizzie and Andy's wedding. Etherial and magical, bjork is a real one of a kind.

Niezbyt podoba mi się jej głos (szczególnie chrypka i załamania głosu). Bardzo oryginalne i nietypowe, ale totalnie nie w moim typie.

First song was a strong start, but after that is unfortunately missed the mark for me. Extremely has that 90s sound which didn't age well. Lots of songs to me were filler and not very interesting. Obviously Bjork really comes into her own with later albums, but it's a fine debut but nothing like the later works.

I have heard several tracks from Björk, but I'm not sure if I've ever listened to a full album. I liked this album. I have listened to the opening track "Human Behaviour" several times, and it is my favorite track from the album. There are some tracks that get a little distracting (the harp on "Like Someone in Love", and other tracks that feel lik they are a little dated (e.g. "One Day"), but I wouldn't say that I disliked anything from this album. This album has room to grow on me, but with this first listen I don't think it was enough to round up to a full 4 stars.

I don’t think anyone can deny the talent of Björk. She is truly a great singer and obviously has fans and detractors. When this album was released, she basically poo-pooed the concept of the standard guitar/bass/drums rock band as being past it’s prime. I would argue that any instrumentation can get in a rut, but people have to be willing to experiment before one can say “oh it’s all been done before.” So ultimately, what do we have here? It’s pretty much a dance album with one or two other songs thrown in. Kinda reminds me of what Radiohead was shooting for at one point, but more joyous. I’m just not that big of a fan of techno/dance music, so I don’t think I will come back to this. I appreciate it for what it is, and the significance of this album, but… just not for me.

Listened to it twice. Some stuff cool, some stuff annoying. Respect for her being so different from anything else. Pretty good vocals and lyrics (not afraid to be raw and just out there). Could probably listen to it in the background all day without noticing it much, music kind of melodic. But I'm not going to ask anyone to put it on for me.

I bought this when it came out based on liking the song Human Behaviour. My original reaction was that I didn't like the rest and even returned it (my local CD store allowed you to return an opened CD if you simply didn't like it. Needless to say, they had to watch out for people who abused this policy). My reaction re-listening to it now many years later is that I appreciate it a bit more, but still wouldn't buy it (if that were still a thing). I think the problem is that too many songs follow the same formula - a good beat that repeats over and over accompanied by Bjork's unusual singing. That's all well and good, but gets a little old. I give it a solid 3.

Some good songs, some didn't do it for me - like Big Time Sensuality. The song from the Leon movie soundtrack "Venus as a boy" is class.

Debut is a quality album which does not quite reach the artistic and creative heights of Björk’s later work but shows the direction of travel. Björk is one of the greatest artists working in music and possesses an incredibles singing voice - the vocal range, control and passion is unmatched and she reminds me of great jazz singers of the past - and whilst not associated with jazz she can still sell a jazz standard like ‘Like Someone in Love’. Her voice elevated the electronic pop/ house genre on Debut to something more than music danced to in clubs.

Sounds like a MTV version of Kate Bush. I quite enjoyed.

It’s definitely an interesting listen. Definitely not casual listening, but it’s very unique. Overall I think the music was good, but the weird noises detracted from it.

What a journey! Some very exciting moments in here and I could listen to her voice any day of the week. She’s a master of playfulness and does things on this record that I wouldn’t have dreamed of. I’m tempted to give it a 4 because it’s such a breath of fresh air but it’s not my particular brand of vodka so I won’t. Really wonderful though.

Vocals are distinct with sometimes jarring rhythms. Can tell the dance vibe and given the period, the percussion could use a reboot but has a dance hall sound to some of the tracks. I could listen to a few tracks more for sure. I can see why there is large following.

Bjork’s debut solo album was definitely ahead of its time. Some of the songs have rhythms more akin to a club, then you’re sent to a new age Enya, then back to a psychedelic rock a la Jefferson Starship’s White Rabbit. For a bunch of songs that don’t seem like they’d fit together, they do.

Nice album. First album I listened to by Björk. Much less electronic than her newest stuff. Feels more woodsy. Björk has a voice that is hard to get used to because it can sound very strainy or like her English is not natural. Almost alien like but once u understand that it’s fire

I feel like calling this "unique" is dismissing it a little, but that's the word that comes to mind. Bjork has a very powerful, versatile voice, and the production in spots is still fresh. Very trip-hop. Kind of loses mean in the later half of the album. Favorite tracks: "Crying", "There's More to Life Than This"

Bjork Good music with catchy percussion and use of both electronic sounds and strings. Voice is strident and whiny with vocal range expressed in single words without a positive effect. She doesn’t appear to have perfect pitch, which betrays her emotional expression and well written music. Some other vocalist might make these songs catchy or pleasant or listenable. I found myself tapping my foot or nodding my head to the music when she was not singing.

I feel meaning picking on a non-native English speaker, but her voice just really bugs me. I lump her in with Joni Mitchell: I appreciate that they are creative songwriters, but I really don’t enjoy listening to them.

Bjork has THREE albums in the Top 1001?! That's a travesty. Her vocals suck, she can't really sing and her music is all the same. Blame it on the accent, but I saw the Sugar Cubes open for U2 and was blown away by how weak they were, the crowd was talking over their entire set after losing all interest. She's so bad I had to unlock her in Spotify since I'd banned myself from listening to her music and I didn't want it ruining my algorithm. Anyone who could sit through all of "Crying" and enjoy is a powerful human, it's painful to listen to - Guantanamo level stuff. The listening counts for this album are impressive, and confusing, it must be all of Iceland tuning in to hear their elf wail her weird little sounds. WTF, there are SO many good albums, why in the world does Bjork, Tom Fucking Waits, The Beta Band, and Tortoise pop up in one week!?! That's a painful 4 albums in a row! This one gets 2 stars, Tortoise was worse.

Having Bjork squark at me for 50 mins is not my idea of fun. Big time sensuality is good and Human behaviour but I’m not sure if I just enjoy them because of familiarity. I have tried to get into Bjork at different periods of my life and failed, nothing changed this time unfortunately.

I still don't get her allure.

Yeah starting to realize I don’t like her I think for avant-garde music this is about the most palatable it gets. Her voice on its own really is great, and there is a certain beauty in the lyricism. For the most part the songs themselves are inoffensive and curious I just really hate the way she sings, exactly the same in every song in every album. Her refusal to sing on beat is just really frustrating and it’s just so monotonous and unexciting. I’d say the overall sound is pretty boring and just kinda nothing. Variety is not great It’s 100% better than the other one we had from her since she’s still in her prime and her voice is at least still great, but it’s just not for me at all. I think I have to go with a high 2 since it didn’t piss me off that much, but I would never ever listen to this one again. Only 2 more to go for her

Björk's Debut is one of those albums where I can clearly recognize the talent and originality behind it. The production is adventurous, her voice is captivating, and it's easy to see why it's considered so influential. That said, it's a bit too much for my personal taste. Its eclectic, experimental style never fully clicked with me, so while I respect it, it's not an album I see myself coming back to often.

Bjork’s Debut is wispy and mellow. Musically it is quite adept — with violins, horns, harps, bells, bongos, organ, a baby, and all. Vocally it’s choppy with misplaced pauses and Icelandic tempo that doesn’t lend itself to the English language. This album is more listenable than her others on The 1001 Must Hear List. (1.85*s) She is still too artsy for my musical taste…

I'll take early, poppy-Bjork over the later, experi-mental sorcery. She is cute (like the cover) with her debut and her style doesn't go off the rails yet. Other than the live version of "There is More to Life Than This," I found this album pretty tolerable unlike the others that have made the 1001 list. I am glad I got a good dose of Bjork and have furthered my musical experience. I can now have a valid conversation with a Bjork fan but I'm done with her so Ekki meira, takk...2.1 stars.

Hmm, I can kinda see why people might like this? But I wasn't vibing and it seems a little overrated. I have heard of Bjork's name. and if nothing else, this journey has gotten me to know more pop culture references.

I have always liked the idea of Bjork… but never dived into her discography. And maybe that’s for the better. Don’t get me wrong, I like avant-garde pop as much as the next guy… but found myself wanting to skip early and often. 2.1
