Reviews (page 12 of 13)

I liked this more than I thought I would but don't see myself listening again

Human Behaviour - kind of reminds me of what an eclectic Alanis Morrisiette song would sound like. Crying - If the synthetic world of The Matrix had a local coffee shop, this would be playing there. Kind of neat, like dubstep without all the reverb-base. Catchy. Venus as a Boy - similar vibe to the first track There’s More to Life than This - strip the vocals out, and it’s what I would imagine hearing in Abercrombie & Finch. The rest of the tracks evoke similar responses to the above This is by far the best Björk album I have listened to for this project, but alas, that’s a low bar, as the others have been abysmal to me.

I hate bjork 2/5

More of the style I don't like from Björk on this.

Human Behavior- funky electronic stuff Crying- slowed down funky electronic stuff Venus as a Boy There's More to Life Than This Like Someone in Love Big Time Sensuality One Day Aeroplane Come to Me

Certainly more accessible than her later work, there were elements of this I enjoyed (electro-synth dissonance) but largely dispensible for me. Really can't ever get over the hump with her vocal intonation choices. Listened to: at 5MW. Favorite tracks: Like Someone in Love, Violently Happy

Because it’s Oscar’s season, this reminds me of the cinematic achievement that you don’t want to see. Now I know more about Bjork, as advertised.

2.0 - Weak

This website sucks

Some of these songs were so unique? I'm not sure what word I am looking for here, but I lowkey liked the harp use in Like Someone in Love. Since it was the 90s, I'll give the album credit for setting up generic club music. Otherwise, I would have given fewer stars.

Something about all of these songs sounded like random noise put together. Her voice is pretty cool, but nothing else about it is really listen-worthy. It's pop without the catchy tunes and experimental without the bravery. But I did like 'The Anchor Song'. That was really pretty.

Not my vibe.

I dislike her voice, it is just so annoying and sounds like a rat. Her voice washes out the solid rhythms. Favourite Song - Come to Me

She just doesn’t do it for me. I tried. 2

Not bad just not for me

Another unknown for me. Her style is alright but I found myself struggling to listen to the whole album.

The first few songs were pretty fun! Felt like they sit right between the disco pop music of the 80s, and the more modern interpretation of pop, which started in the 2000s, so I quite enjoyed them! Then (on the Spotify version of the album) came the live recording... What the hell was that? The music cut out halfway through the song, suddenly making the song a capella? And then eventually it got turned back up. With how random that was though, it seemed to me like an error, not a part of the song? Overall, that was pretty off putting. And then the rest of the album came, which was all very boring to me, with these whispery vocals, and it all kind of blended together all the way to the end.

Sounded like someone really liked 80s music but didn’t know how to replicate that sound.

Meeaahhh…

It’s esentric however you spell that. It was fun kinda but ehh for me

not a fan personally

2.5 It was alright I guess. Not desperate to re-listen.

Not my thing but not bad.

Not for me

Thought I'd like it more than I would. Some En Vougue vibes at times, I grew up in the 90s so this pop isn't new, it's all my sister listened to. Nothing stands out on this album a whole lot, just got kinda boring.

I'm sorry, I've tried and tried and tried, but... just no.

Uh, no.

Quintessential 80s tracks. Enjoyed it. Liked some of their songs that I didn’t even know was theirs!

It wasn’t for me. I really liked Crying, but everything else was too slow and all over the place for me. I really wanted to like this, but I think this was my least favorite album so far.

Bjorn is ok. She was a cool cooky kid when she started. I respect that. Not my genre tho.

I strongly preferred the songs that relied on the singer-songwriter side of Bjork rather than the techno side, which was to the detriment of this record. She has definite talent, but the further she gets from electronic music the better. Notable Tracks: - Crying - Come to Me - The Anchor Song 4/10

Crying ok, vse drugo niti malo moj stil.

Her voice annoys me

could not finish it, this is awful to me, her singing and the overall style makes me irk. BUT i can see the uniqueness and she's got a bigish cult of followers so yeah not 1 out of respect 1.5 rounding up

I’ve just never been able to get into Bjork. If it wasn’t for “Venus as a Boy” and “The Anchor Song” this album would be getting 1 star, but those songs are objectively beautiful. Aside from those, though, this album is a mess.

Different!

A bit too airy

This was difficult to get through. The sound is lush and interesting, but I just could not get into her vocals at all. It occurred to me that I've known of Bjork for a long time but apparently never knew her music. I guess I am not a fan...

if you’ve ever met this kind of chick before you know they’re insufferable

I do not like Bjork

I've never really listened to Bjork before, but based on what I had heard, that it was weird for the sake of being weird and that I really didn't get the appeal. After listening to this album a few times I can say that it's not as weird as I assumed, but I still don't get the appeal.

Really didn’t get this or it’s popularity, if she had a more striking voice maybe I’d like it

2/5 What a voice, but the backing music just doesn’t do it for me.

This was weird af

Not my kind of music. Sounds too much like Jazz.

Never heard this before, interesting to say the least. I can't deny the talent, but I think I haven't yet acquired an affinity for Bjork. Nice to be exposed to something new though.

Not a fan. :(

Only had a few highlights for me, the other songs kinda seemed unremarkable. But on the other hand I don’t really listen to this kind of music so I’m definitely not the authority here. 2.3/5 I guess because, while it is definitely not my style, it is not terrible whatsoever.

It was ok. I didn't manage to give it my full attention but definitely less interesting to me than queen and the yeah yeah yeahs

❤️❤️/5

Okay look I'm sure this was all cool and innovative and boundary pushing when it came out but that was 31 years ago and I'm not sure it has retained that. The biggest problem I have with this is her voice. I know she's speaking English but I have no idea what she's saying about 90% of the time. The music is cool and funky though which is nice but most of the songs kinda sound the same and again, not a fan of her voice. Also the sweater she's wearing looks really itchy.

so the album started strong-the heavy, drum forward sound on Human Behavior was great, and her vocals worked well with the sound. that was the best track off the album, all the rest were just a mess. the electronic/house music/over sampled & produced sounds plus the baby talk/shouting/out of control vocals were tiring.

Definitely not the best album I've listened too. Weirdly I prefer the Mongolian throat singing album from Björk.

I can see some songs as good workout songs. It is an interesting sound. Makes me think of Techno-funk with a strong vocal. Not really my style but not all bad.

I've never really been a big fan of hers. This album is just mediocre, although it's better than some of the other albums I've been given from this site.

Couple nice rhythms on here, but it's mostly just plaintive and weird.

Not as bad as the other one but still not my thang

Not for me. I recognized Human Behavior from the weird video that was all over MTV in the 90s. I’ve never been a fan of Bjork’s voice and most of these songs were too poppy for my taste.

I wasn't sure what she was singing about and couldn't get into this album.

Not quite my tempo.

Somebody’s probably going to hang me for this, but I found the whole album boring. I just don’t get the point of it. I’ve heard some of her newer songs, and they were good, but this debut didn’t do it for me. After doing some research, I saw that even her fan base isn’t too fond of this album and ranks it at the bottom of their tier lists. I’m definitely expecting more from her other albums and will be sure to listen to more, because this can’t be the Björk everyone’s hyping her up to be.

weirdos being weirdos

Not my jam

Weird, as Björk is known to be. I think this is the least weird thing I have heard from her Not bad. Not enjoyable either though 2.75

I liked the jazzy stuff a lot better than the trip hop stuff. Clearly shows promise but I’m not likely to revisit

Crying Play dead

good but not my thing

Bjork is an acquired taste.

Eh, kinda boring

Weird album. Some songs I really enjoyed, like the finale, but others were barely listenable. Initial rating my not reflect how I feel if I give this album a couple more chances.

Stream of consciousness gibberish. Lame low effort digital music production. Not for me. Did Lorde listen to Bjork? Similar singing styles.

I liked when she pronounced “ghetto blaster” with a soft g

First song, Human Behavior: not loving it. It's just singing and drums. Overall, didn't like it much 2/5 I guess because it's not bad music, just not my style.

High 2

Personally I like instrumentals that are connected in some way with the vocals.

Second Bjork in the same week? I respect her being out there and enjoyed the instrumentation (harp?!), but this wasn't for me. 2*

Björk clearly has and amazing voice and a flair for the unique and dramatic, but the phony electronic sounds on a lot of the album really detract from the experience.

She made better albums since!

Good, but not as good as her later albums.

Whispered lofty voice Between a night lounge and club Strange pop, space worthy

This has some trippy electronic beats that I could see being enjoyed in an altered setting. This is the first time I have EVER listened to Bjork. I feel like I am not cool enough to really appreciate this. So not really for me but I can appreciate that she is talented.

For the two songs that were ok

I think it’s gonna take a few more listens. I hear Japanese Breakfast and Bon Iver

One of those artists I want to like but just can't seem to get in to

Bjork has a great voice, but this was a little too experimental and dissonant—the club-y electronic tracks too.

Had to skip the second to last song as it was just too irritating. A generous 2/5 Bonus review off Tom "I imagine this album is very popular with the deaf community"

Not a fan, but could listen to most of the tracks.

don't think I've ever actually listened to Bjork. Can't say I am a fan. "One Day" was ok but "Like Someone in Love" was an especially painful listen.

Starts out with sitar and turns into wacky japanese pop and turns into some weird...this is only the third song. This is just crazy. Now, Fool On The Hill? It sounds like little Orphan Annie if she were an 8 year old boy. Bjork - Bjork 2/5 What I picture in my mind when I listen to this is a young “cute” child actor singing jingles for things like Oscar Myer, or national pride songs sung by some kid. I don’t really care for this and it was a struggle even to listen to it a second time.

Not for me

# Playlist track - Big Time Sensuality # Notes - There are some fun beats and interesting explorations, I'll give her that. Also hard to imagine how would have been to listen to this back in 1993. - Having said that. - Bjork has awful vocal range and the higher notes and screams are often incredibly annoying. - "Anchor Song" is boring. "Aeroplane" is insufferable. - Nice to listen once, for its uniqueness and variety, but no longer than that.

I'm torn between a 2 and 3 for this. I might just have a boring taste in music, I don't know, but for the most part this album did nothing for me, at times less than nothing. I did like "Like Someone In Love," and I do like Björk's voice, but I think the purposeful discordance and electronica vibes in many of the tracks just doesn't work for me. I was also bordering on liking "There Is More To Life Than This," for the lyrics primarily, and one of the other reviews talks about how this album sounds like Björk guiding you around and is a better image of her than you'd get from an album about her, and this one exemplifies that for me, but I still just never managed to step over to just liking the song.

mad cunt

Well that wasn't for me but I get why people enjoy / respect it. 2.5 stars

Interesting album, for me it is too 'alternative'

Not my thing

Not for me

Before listening: Goddamit, I don't wanna. 'It's Oh So Quiet' isn't even on this album so I must ask, what the hell am I doing here? I'm hoping this would be a bit more poppy, or at least more digestible, than her other work. Otherwise, I'll have one finger poised over the skip button, and my other finger poised over the 1 star. After listening: I don't take back anything I said, other than the 1 star thing. There were actually a few tunes here that were listenable, so I'll give her that. Otherwise, pretty forgettable and barely a decent melody in sight.

There were some good instrumental vibes here and there but nothing that really stuck. She can sing but she kinda just yells pretty.

Good vocals but the ramblings lyrics on a synthboard can only go so far

It was certainly my debut with her all those years ago. A couple of tracks are still nostalgic a bit and make me remember one particular season. Otherwise, I'm a no-go on Bjork. She had so much promise, and she delivered something important to someone, it just wasn't me.

Off-key noise 2/5

Since 30 years not my kind of music…

Day61 - i can understand why bjork is on the list. her songs and her voice are interesting

This was a difficult listen for me. I'm not a huge fan of experimental music - The most experimental album I've ever listened to and enjoyed is yeezus. I guess the more avant garde stuff isn't for me. anyways What I liked: - The beats on most of the songs were pretty okay - There were like 3 tracks I liked - Bjork tried something new What I didn't: - Bjorks voice is an acquired taste I guess. I hate her singing. - The first song - I don't like house music so this was a difficult listen

unmemorable

bjork. interesting.

She has an unsettling voice. The sound of it creates a bad effect on me. It seem to somehow always be off key. I think this album would be a lot better without the vocals.

Mediocre

I was sorry to learn that I like the idea of Bjork more than the reality, at least of this album.

Cut out the Euro dance trash and there was something here.

It's okay, she has a good voice but just not really getting much from the songs to be honest.

I was really excited to listen to this album. Trip hop has long been a genre with a lot of real-estate in my Playlist and listening time. I know she is related and influencial to/by trip hop, but I've never really given any attention to bjork. This album is.... interesting. I don't hate it, but I don't see myself returning to this or adding any songs to my personal Playlists. Some fun and interesting instrumentation and sampling, mixed with a lot of.... meh. Maybe her voice is an acquired taste, but I have yet to acquire it. It ranges from tolerable to grating. When she goes for power, which she does a LOT, it feels like more misses than hits, with some real nails on the chalkboard moments. Some of the songs have a nice mellow lounge feel and her vocalization seems... incongrous. I feel like more sultry and smooth ala beth gibbons would have served some of the songs a lot better. Overall, some interesting sound experimentation, but not my cup of tea.

Up beat 90s sound. Not my time of music. Her voice is powerful and beautiful at times but a little too 90s growly and screechy.

The Sugarcubes and Bjork BACK TO BACK. Not my cup of beer. I could listen to it, but barely! Favorite (loosely put) Come to me.

Not a fan.

My 2024 resolution was to focus on the positives on my album reviews and this was one was pretty tough. The positives - She does have a very good voice. I have a friend with the last name Bjork who has a pretty good band. ND hockey had a great player named Anders Bjork. As for this album, I just couldn't find anything that grabbed my attention. Different for sure, but just not enjoyable to this listener. Can't see myself revisiting this album. Didn't this girl go to some music show with a live goose around her neck or something like that? Interested enough to ask the question, but not enough to do the research and find out. 2

I really don't know what I'm supposed to think of this album. The songs just sound weird to me.

Dreamy soundscape, found unengaging. Lyrically uninteresting. (4/10)

I really wanted to like Björk, just for the sake of her being an Icelandic girl with an ö in her name. But these are just lazy synth pop tunes with her mumbling, shouting, slurring and stretching vocals on top.

This is mostly just too weird for me, and lives mostly in a genre that I don't like, house/dance/electronic sound. It's not bad, but it isn't really enjoyable for me. I am glad that she leans into her unique sounding voice, rather than shying away from it and trying to create more "normal" sounding music.

Icelandic recording artist Bjork's solo debut album, "Debut," is critically acclaimed on the British charts. An amalgamation of genres, Bjork produced a cheerful album. Overall, not my cup of tea.

2.4 I was going into this one blind (or would it be deaf?) Not horrible, not great.

I'm not going to be able to enjoy this album until MDMA becomes a lot more accessible.

Not really my jam.

Didnt like it, too depressing and droning

Not a fan them or now really

Not a fan Couldnt choose a song I liked

First song, Human Behaviour was good. Overall, the album is a little too '90's pop for me. Good techno beats that had me bobbing my head and enjoying though. As the album went on, it got old and repetitive. I'll rate this 2-stars. Didn't hate it, but wouldn't choose to listen to it.

All the songs sounded the same.

Not a fan.

Not my type of music. Does have a calming feel to it, but in a way that makes me want to fall asleep, rather than pay attention to the music. Play Dead is the most recognisable song and the only one I really enjoyed. I wouldn't listen to this album again.

Imagine being a movie/ TV exec in 1993 that's developing a project about a sex driven teenager that's secretly an alien but is trying to keep it a secret. You're struggling to find the right soundtrack to convey mystery, sexy and something alien and this album drops on your desk. That whole project could be scored by every song on this album.

Instrumental is pleasant - vocals not so great

Non mi è piaciuto tanto

I’ll give this 2 because she has a nice voice and is a good singer. I do not understand this record. Pop/synth/dance is really not my style, but there are also horns at times? Tough start to 1001.

Ok. Not my style of music.

Nicht meins.

Her voice is to scratchy for me.

This is probably the best Björk has ever sounded. And it's still crap. These songs have something resembling a structure and she hasn't yet gone full fairy-baby with her singing so there's that going for it. But it's still terrible and I can't believe there are four Björk albums on this list.

v artsy, not for me

This album felt all over the place while also sounding like it came from a children's TV show. Everything was super basic sounding, and I don't really care for her voice.

That was very weird. I did not like that at all.

Not my kind of music.

I don't really see the draw. Maybe it was new and cool at the time, but it just reminds me of the cranberries and awful "voice cracks"

Just not really a Björk fan. Sure, she’s done some cool shit over the years and people really love her, but it’s just not in my wheelhouse.

not a fan

Bjork isn’t really my bag-I can see the artistry involved in her craft but I don’t like listening to a full album of it. Small doses only for me!

too much screaming😬

I couldn't get into this one. Twice thru did nothing for me.

Not melodic enough for me

It was fine? Not my thing, but not objective trash or anything.

Human behaviour ja There's more to life than this oli ihan 4/10, muut vähemmän.

It’s not my cup of tea, but there were a few songs I enjoyed. The concept of the album I could appreciate for sure.

not for me

Not really my jam. 0 songs saved to playlist

Didnt like it much

This album was completely new to me. By mid 1993 I was pretty much out of the "popular" music scene. I think I've heard the name, but don't think I've ever heard any of Bjork's music. So I went into this with an open mind and a blank slate. I thought the first couple of songs were pretty good. Sort of an ambient, ethereal feel. But with each passing song it held y interest less and less. Just not really my "thing". 2/5

Not my favorite. A few songs are okay but overall not my thing.

Didn't get it... wasn't taken with anything. Interesting range of sounds and impressive vocals though.

This album was okay, not my type of music

Not my favorite

Human Behaviour put me to sleep, but Crying is interesting so far. Venus as a Boy

This was pretty interesting.

This was a rough one

Björk to me is like Donnie Darko. When I first found it as a teen I thought it was the coolest thing ever, and then each time I listened/watched it again through the years I realized it just seemed so incredible at first because I was 16 and I didn't know better.

It seems like an interesting record… Feels like there is too much going on, kind of grating on my ears. I can see how this was influential for its time (I wouldn’t have been able to guess when this came out) but it just isn’t pleasant to listen to. Is dissonant the right term? Rating might be a bit harsh, but I’m still getting my bearings here. Still finding myself tapping along though so she must be doing something right…

Not my cup of tea

I can't really see listening to this regularly, but it isn't bad. Just not my preferred style.

Two Bjőrk albums in a row on this app strongly suggest to me that I don't like Bjőrk.

Ain’t it for me. Not today at least. Liked a few songs though.

Björk would probably sound better if I was in a fjord amphitheater. I do like a couple of her songs though.

It was okay. Not really my thing, and found it a bit annoying.

# 63 : Slow and dreary, not my thing. Like the song, There's more to life than this…

OLLAAN NIIN VITUN HAUSKAA POIKAA!! pedofiileille vittuilua...hyvä... viikinkikansan alistusta...suomalaiset...they beat them.. ja loppuun objektiivista reitinkiä... arvostelusta 5/5 violebtly happy

Not the biggest fan, only like 2 songs off the entire album.

This did have a song i recognized and was far more approachable then the other Bjork albums we've listened to. I'm just done with Bjork at this point.

I used to REALLY hate this, now I just find it mildly annoying. You can call that personal growth. A couple of minor tunes, lots of irritating half-arsed trip hop and dumb *look at me* pixie vocals. "Play Dead" is the good one, and it's not even on the original release. I remain convinced she's basically a con-artist, preying on idiot male music journalists with her well-practiced faux-ingenue Icelandic affect. Poor, but not worth an aneurysm.

It was certainly interesting, but too eclectic for me to enjoy properly.

I was not a fan of the experimental/dance airy fairy sound she was trying here. I only liked a couple of the tracks, the rest I couldn't even enjoy as background. Highlights: Human Behaviour Big Time Sensuality

-retrospectively reviewed on 03/07/23, generated 29/06/23- AL: I liked this a lot more then Medulla but I think when it comes down to it I just don’t really like Björk’s voice that much. It just isn’t for me I suppose. FT: “there’s more to life than this”, “come to me” 2/5

I've never listened to Björk before - I'm not sure what I was expecting. This was fine, but I'm not sure what they hype is about. My top pick is 'Big Time Sensuality' which feels boppy in a funny kind of way.

She has a unique voice. Liked the horns in a couple of songs. Would not seek this album out and listen to it again.

Highlights: Venus as a Boy, Crying Leave Em's: Violently Happy, Aeroplane, The Anchor Song Overall Thoughts: This is one of the most abstract musical projects that I have ever heard. I'm glad that I have heard it, but I have no inclination to come back or save any of these songs. I enjoyed how variable the sounds were throughout the album, as well as how Bjork uses her voice in different pitches. It managed to hold my attention pretty much throughout by remaining interesting and variable, but I often found myself turned off by the lack of rhythm and melodies that are traditionally more pleasing to the ear. I didn't hate it, but it is surely not for me. Score Breakdown: 2.618 & 2 -> 2.309

I do not understand. How do people find this enjoyable? Not for me.

Debut was OK, but not mind blowing. Her voice was all over the place, and some of the tracks seemed to go strange places. Probably wouldn’t listen again.

really cool instrumentals throughout but i didn’t love her voice

Beautifully odd. Not much to keep on repeat, but still an interesting listen.

strange

Not generally my sound but Human Behaviour, One Day, Aeroplane, and Play Dead are standouts.

Interesting to say the least.. not really my thing

Just not my type of music

This Bjork album is better that the previous Bjork album, sure. Still a Bjork album though...

i don't think i can call myself a fan of björk, but i did like this more than her later album, vespertine. and i found myself more intrigued by this! debut shows a wider range of björk, which surprised me considering this was her first album. she alternates between peaceful and ambient to electronic dance music. and she throws in a touch of folk, and jazz! honestly, i realize i don't care very much for björk's voice. it's unfortunate, but that's how it is sometimes. 2.5 even though i enjoyed it more than vespertine.

ew i expected more

For the right audience, probably decent but for most a bizarre listen

Very weird electronic pop album with unique vocals I actually liked. I wasn’t a fan at all of most of the music behind the vocals though. Some songs were better than others and I can appreciate the talent but overall not something I’ll go back to.

I respect Björk for her avant-garde attitude and no-compromise experiments, and this album is well produced. I just don't .... like it. The music fails to engage me in any way. It's more like an intellectual exercise trying where you can take modern pop music - which is fine, of course, but it's not for me.

Unique sounds on this album - don’t think I particularly enjoyed it though

I do hate the way she sings, already on this album. Later albums even worse. Only Bjork I like is her Sugarcubes period, when she was kept under control by a band

I don't get Bjork. I guess I would have to live in places where it's dark half of the year to relate to this music. Some of the songs are not that bad but her voice is so grating, I can't get past it.

Björk is a loser's dream: her music is bipolar outsider art garbage you mostly have to pretend to like, and she has that weird unconventional pixie-like cuteness that appeals to guys who never had a chance with the hot chicks (and who never had a chance with Björk either, but sshhhh). A music critic's dream too, incidentally. The first song or two were ok tbh, but an hour of offbeat electronica and QUIRKINESS was just too fucking much. 2/5.

I appreciate the experimental part of it, but in the end it is to avant garde for my taste. I find her singing often hard to digest.

I've never listened to Bjork before, but she used to come into a cafe I worked at. She would always be wearing a veil. She'd sit alone in a corner and eat a curry, all while never taking off her veil. I always thought she was a weird unit, and this album has cemented that opinion of her. Nice lady though.

Bjork's music is better without Bjork. The voice goes through my head. Also prefer her previous band The Sugacubes.

Debut is the same as all the other Bjork. Not for me, 2/5.

This gets stellar reviews on the site, but I prefer her later stuff - to me a lot of the sound here sounds very dated. Her voice is amazing, but the music behind it is a bit too disco/electro in a lot of places for it to work for me. 2/5.

Woahhh, looks like Björk is into electronica after all. Too bad I'm not.

2 stars for her voice which is great however music not for me. Very irritating.

The techno-style and shrill singing makes you wish she used autotune. There were a few, um, listenable tunes. Like Someone in Love, One Day, and were ok. Come to Me was the most music-like track on the album.

Abstract concept and good incorporation of jazz into a different genre, lyrics were inciting but did not make a great impact, it felt like they lack some correlation with the instrumentation.

Not really a fan of her voice. Musically it's quite solid but her singing ruins it for me.

Not for me.

I like some parts of this album, but more parts I dislike

no tengo el oido entrenado para esto

Second Bjork album for me from the generator, and I must say.. Bjork blue-balled me. The Bjorkster blue-balled me big time. The opening couple of tracks were so fire, and then she just had to go and turn into.. well.. quirky dorky Bjork I guess. I give this 2 swollen, aching love spuds.

Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: yes and no, i will say yes in the fact I respect bjork for what she has done for music but I just don’t understand the hype about her style, not a lot of it seems to match up or cohere but that could also be part of the charm? Maybe I need to listen again and to more of her work but I just don’t get it for now? Favourite song: Track 10 - Violently Happy

Skum, artsy, dansmusik.

Just not for me

Her voice grated on me at times, and I didn't love the music.

It’s not for me. Big Time Sensuality is an alright song, but I can’t do a full album of Björk’s oddball schtick. Long live this proud freakish weirdo, but she’s not of my tribe.

adele mais pop

not for me

I’ve always tried to get into Bjork but failed. This was another instance. There are some really interesting parts but ultimately it’s nonsense.

A decent album that has concepts that are impressive. I can see why people like bjork and find her music special. She is a good singer and the production with the various instrumentals is really good. The lyrics and some of the songs are introspective and take a good look at life. However I myself don’t find the album that enjoyable. As impressive as it is it’s still not for me. 4.6/10

This one sounds like a hipster tried to recreate the sound track to Mario 64 from memory and then put vocals to it

I just don't get her. I think she's one of those artists that critics love (for some unknown reason), but most people just scratch their head. I didn't hate this, but I definitely won't be adding it to my collection!

I did not care for this. Idk what else to add, it wasn't for me and I don't want to hear it again

I have given it a chance so far and I'm just not really digging the music or her singing style. Human behavior was the standout track for me. I didn't hate it but just not for me.

Bit weird for me "There's more to life than this" Live just for the weird car trunk part Maybe The Anchor Song

First time hearing this one. I've heard her follow up album, Post, which I actually prefer more than this. Debut was not quite as memorable, but maybe I need to give it time to sink in. There were moments I liked, I just didn't hear any standout tracks.

a unique sound for sure. Lots of pop-y beats and dissonant horns and melodies with a bit of jazz thrown in. Kinda felt like a fever dream I’d like to avoid. Didn’t enjoy other than Like Someone In Love.

Very irritating.

Didn’t care for it

Interesting. I liked moments of her voice, but overall the sound was just too weird to be enjoyable.

Dear Bjork, When this album was released I tried to listen and embrace it, but it just didn't click with me and couldn't get past the sound of your voice. I also tried listening to your previous band, the Sugarcubes and as much as I wanted to like it, I couldn't. I realize your music has put Iceland on the global radar as a hotbed for cultural talent, so I feel I should give your music another try and thanks to this 1001 albums challenge I'm having another listen. Sorry, this still doesn't do anything for me, I'm trying to be open-minded, but I just don't care for it. You deserve the accolades you have received because you are clearly talented and unique and you have a dedicated and passionate fan-base so you are truly doing something special. I promise i will try again in maybe...30 years (or sooner), so thank you for your music. Sincerely yours, TDIT

This wasn't bad....for a couple of songs. After that, her voice just grated on me and the music seemed to meander.

Not for me

Muy radical, extremo.

Not a fan

Bjork sounds like a word I would use to describe this music

Enjoyable, I like Bjork's voice, it's a nice counterpoint to all the baby voiced female singers of the modern era. She sings like she really means it. She isn't afraid to leave gaps in the music and let the emotion in her voice fill it in.

Maybe just not in the mood for this sound when I was listening to it.

never heard an album before where the singer holds vowel sounds for so long

not really for me.

2 stars for creativity

2/5 not really my cup of tea

Couple of songs

Debut by Björk (1993) Dazzlingly eclectic and playful instrumentals and arrangements over snappy dance beats carry lame lyrics, anti-melodies and pop-ish vocals across the finish line on this relatively cool album. But the attempted cover of Johnny Burke’s “Like Someone In Love” reveals the serious limitations of Björk’s voice. Shoulda left this one off the record. “Violently Happy” is lyrically fascinating, but spoiled by a melody stuck on the fifth. Makes me want to grab one. As for the rest of the Björk’s vocals, well, it’s not Cyndi Lauper. 2/5

Just not a fan

Sounds like a whale being raped

love the 90s dance vibes when they turned up, but she's fucking annoying isn't she.

Must have been some interesting drugs involved.

This is half good and half just weird. Not good weird either. Just weirdness for the sake of being weird.

Not really my cup of tea, but original for sure.

appreciate the artistry just wasn’t for me

How she sings is so bloody annoying

At times bizarre, other times danceable. Thought this would be much worse than it is, but honestly, it's not terrible. However, don't plan to listen ever again.

Never like Bjork that much

Not as good as I remembered when it first came out.

ive only listened to Post maybe 2 months ago and loooooved it so much. sadly I only sort of liked a couple songs from this one :(

I am sorry, I just can't handle Bjorks voice, it drives me crazy. Some good music played on this album, but then she sings!!!!!!! 2 stars

Couldn't really get through it. I sort of get why she's so loved but I think there's enough experimental music and breadth of genre now as compared to when this was released that it's not as revolutionary

A melhor música do álbum é o Human Behaviour. Nota:4/10 06/06/2024

I like some of her stuff but i've never been a fan. I only enjoyed a couple of tracks on this album.

Tried, honestly tried but it's just shite.

Fine. Didn't do it for me.

Doesn't have the same affect as Sugarcubes for me, and listening 27 years later feels like there are 100 albums that have mimicked it more successfully.

A techno album with a song featuring a harp? Gutsy. Doesn't pull it off, though.

Ouff...

I don’t like the dance beats at all. Sounds Sounds like a tik tok wanna be singer belting over the macarena at times. Not good. But not as terrible as some other stuff we’ve heard. Tries too hard to be experimental and “artistic.”

Quite interesting but not my cup of tea. 5/10

Listening to Bjork is like hanging out with a mentally unstable friend and it’s always made me uncomfortable

Not horrible, not spectacular. But most importantly, not for me.

Not interested.
