Reviews (page 6 of 14)
Took me over 25 years to start enjoying this album and pearl jam altogether. learned to appreciate them for what they.... not the kind of band that I can listen to for too long though.
This album has been encoded into my autistic mind DNA since I was 13. Can go years without hearing it, then put it in and sing along with every lyric, every epic guitar solo, every kickass drum fill. A rock masterpiece.
Once - 9/10 Even Flow - 6/10 TOP 1 Alive - 10/10 Why Go? - 9/10 TOP 2 Black - 10/10 Jeremy - 7/10 Oceans - 6/10 Porch - 10/10 Garden - 8/10 Deep - 9/10 TOP 3 Release - 10/10
Pearl Jam is one of those bands that came in, dropped an incredible debut record, and never was able to follow up with anything nearly as good. It is a bit of a shame, really, but considering how much I enjoy this album I will take it as it is.
I wasn't too heavily into the whole grunge scene, but this album is just amazing. One of the best debut albums of all-time. I'm partial to the more nuanced songs on here, for example Black and Jeremy, but the whole album is great. I knew right away that this was a band with staying power beyond most of the grunge bands that were hitting it big at that time. 4.5 stars, rounding up to 5.
I already have this album on vinyl, it’s pretty good.
Always loved his voice and this is a true masterpiece
Amazing album, in the dawn of grunge! Great songs like Alive, Black and Jeremy. All in this album is solid, harmonic in its own chaos.
How was one album so freaking good?
That's a ten
Perfect fucking album.
Great album. Very cohesive. Definitely worth going past the first four songs (the most famous Pearl Jam songs).
J’y retourne souvent.
Fantastic album, not a weak track on it. Jeremy and Alive always seem to take the plaudits, but I’ve always preferred some of the more subdued tunes like Black, Oceans and Release. A grunge classic!
Iconic. Banger.
Immense. Eddie Vedder's vocals are full of feeling as they explore several deep subjects, soundtracked by some pulsating rock riffs.
One of my all-time favorite albums!
a genre defining classic. Hard to overstate it's impact and does hold over time!
On the quality of songs alone, it's a pretty clear 5. Only Porch (and if it counts, the instrumental Master/Slave) I didn't like. Everything else (except Deep) is very good at least. Jeremy and Black are very moving songs, with the latter probably being the best on the whole album. Once and Even Flow are very aggressive in nature, and Alive is one of those songs that appears to be hopeful, but Eddie Vedder's lyrics suggest otherwise. The only thing I wasn't a big fan of was the murky sound quality.
One of the best albums of the 90's, with probably the best song of the 90's (Jeremy). Feels unlike any other debut album. Not a bad track, and sound that is consistent with great production. Stand out tracks: Even flow, Alive, Black, Jeremy, Release
love this album, one of my all time faves
Incredible. The highpoints alive/black/even flow/jeremy are great, but the low-key ending of the album really does it for me.
The really should be a Ten rating
Teenage vibes for me, I loved grunge when I was 16, This was one of my favourite albums. I give it 5. For me, this is THE grunge album.
I tried to stay away from Pearl Jam for as long as I could. Not growing up in the era when Pearl Jam reigned supreme and Eddie Vedder's wavy locks were posted on the walls of teenage girls everywhere, the plethora of Eddie imitators (mainly Creed) had turned me off to the idea of actually ever enjoying them. But on a Sunday at Reading 2006 I couldn't resist their genius any longer. We actually had no intention of watching them but the alternative was Maximo Park and that was miles away! Only knew about 2 songs but they completely blew me away. I then went on to become mildly obsessed with 90s pearl jam for a bit and this is still their finest work. 5/5
Perfect, or close enough. Bit of a shame Spotify didn't have the couple of bonus tracks on the UK cd version, but still one of my favourite albums of all time. Loved it!
Inarguably one of the best debut albums of all time, regardless of genre.
This is one of my favorite albums of all time. Perfectly constructed with poetic verses mixed into rock hits and brilliant melodies.
Muito bom!
Really a 4.5/5 but feeling generous today
David Browne from Entertainment Weekly 12/13/91: With the release of Pearl Jam’s debut album, the so-called ”Seattle Sound” has become, for better or worse, institutionalized, a lumbering monolith waiting for the Next Big Thing to usurp it. Ten abounds with everything you’d expect from a band from this part of the country — mountain-high guitar riffing that tips its Northwestern hat to Led Zeppelin; misty, elliptical lyrics that only hint at their subject matter; the primordial wail of the wah-wah guitar; and the lugubrious, druggy ambience of a young hippie commune. While there’s nothing wrong with any of that, you’ve heard it all before on records by fellow Northwestern rockers like Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and the defunct Mother Love Bone (some of whose members are in Pearl Jam). Like many of its Seattle cohorts, Pearl Jam also flail about in search of a groove and a song. Occasionally, as in the single ”Alive,” they find both. More often, they lose themselves in a sound that only goes to show that just about anything can be harnessed and packaged. B-
Icônico
This is simply a gem. Lyrics, voice, sound, atmosphere - everything is absolutely perfect! Black and Jeremy are the best songs of 90s! Also one of my favourite albums ever! Has been listened thousands of times! Total Masterpiece!
Classic grunge. Possibly best grunge album ever.
Amazing album!! Fucking precious!
Great album great memories
This is one of the most important albums of my life. If time travel exists, it should be this album. I still remember when I listened to Black for the very first time. I was going through a depressive episode and feeling unable to get out of it. This is also the first album I analyzed with my daughter; I went song by song, read the background of the recording sessions, all the lyrics and their multiple interpretations. It was an attempt to pass the torch to the next generation. It was a father-daughter ritual.... I loved this record...
Perhaps the power of nostalgia and the space of decades but this was a very enjoyable listen for me which I wouldn’t necessarily have expected a handful of years ago
Fantastic album. Probably one of the most well-known albums of the decade. Great polished songs from front to back. The big layered guitars and Vedder's vocals compliment each other well.
Still grows on me even after 20 years since its release with the intersection of grunge alternative and heavy metal. Just solid Rock vocals, beats, energy.
Flash in the pan. One-shot album, never heard from again. Seriously, I remember when this came out. I was in college and I gravitated towards it pretty quickly. You could not unhear this album; it was everywhere. Even the non-single, album tracks were played ALL the time. I tend to think of the album as overplayed, but every track on there (even Jeremy) is solid. It was their second album that solidified it for me “Go” is just a great opener. But this is where it all started.
I still remember first hearing Jeremy and then being surprised to find out Eddie Vedder wasn't 40+ years old. There are very few albums like this that not only have no weak songs but also changed music. I put together best of rock lists for each year of the 90's over the summer and it is amazing how different rock music was in 1990 versus 1992-93 a year after Ten and a few other pivotal albums from late 1991 (e.g., Nevermind, Badmotorfinger). Maybe short-lived, but it stomped out cheesy 80's hair rock / forced rock to be better. No doubt bands like the Pixies, Melvins, and Replacements paved the way for bands like Pearl Jam, but the sound was perfected on Ten. Hard edged, pulsing sounds and lyrics that make you think. Everyone likely knows the first 6 tracks (Why Go and Once are just as good as the mega-hits) but the last 5 tracks are also impressive - if you like the frenetic Even Flow, try Porch; if you like the brooding Black, try Release; if you like the multi-layered Alive, try Garden. An all-time classic.
Easy 5
Nice
I haven't liked another of theirs as much since then.
Einfach klassisch
Mother father and children of all my favorite music. 5 Sterne reichen nicht!!!
Le meilleur de pearl jam,un classique ! 5
I had forgotten how good this album is. Used to listen to it all the time in the early 90s. Not only is the album 5 stars but just about every song is 5 stars.
5/5 - Amazing
One of my faves!
One of the biggest most influential rock album of all time and it stood the test of time Best drumming award for the album goes to: Deep
the majority of this album is seared into my brain and it should be. unimpeachable. literally the only pearl jam album i think is any good but how do you outdo perfection
15. Ten - Pearl Jam. 11 Tracks Is this called Ten cos it's rated 10 out of 5? What an album! Don't think I have ever listened to it sober before. What an album! Have I said that before? Wow. A new bar has been set against which all others will be judged. Mind-blowing! 5/5
Black is my favorite track from the album. Probably an all time top 10.
So damn good. Loved delving more into the history of the band and the of this album. Eddie Vedder just keeps getting better with age.
Great album. I also love the not hits on this album LMAO.
High school flashbacks. Hard to imagine that era without this album and band. Extremely influential and still kicks ass to this day. Easily one of the top albums on this whole list in terms of “must hear”
But first, pearl jam
Als Grunge ganz groß war!
OG
Potentísimo. El grunge más sobrio de todos. Debut gigante.
Memories of the Seattle grunge scene!
Amazing
Once, even flow, alive, release. Easy 5.
Obviously 5
Alternative radio is actually legally required to play all 11 of these songs at least once a day
yessss
Buen disco. 3 megahits.
Awesome album, already knew it from before
I know this one by heart!
A barrage of hits for the first half and great music overall, even if I get tired from Eddies voice after a while. a classic alright
Yani tabiki 5yildiz
I think this is favorite album of the 90s
Fuck yes
Eddie Vedder is the best
10 stars
Classic!
familiar, used to listen to it a lot with dad.
Really great. I knew a lot of the songs, but had never listened to the whole album.
I liked this album a lot more than I thought I would. It was very angsty but it felt so deep and meaningful also. It's definite a super intense album but it really resonated with me.
Best Grunge album ever
LOL just yesterday I was listening to this and wondered if it was on this list, and if so when it would come up. one of the best albums of all time 5/5.
4/8
My first grunge album. I like the vibe and 2-3 songs really stood out to me
It's fair to say this is one of the best grunge albums of all time. I have never listened to it from end to end, but have heard the majority of the songs. I would say the first half is much stronger than the second half, but that is probably because it has more energy. Overall, a great album, but not an album I'm going to choose to listen to very often.
Alive and Even Flow are the well known songs, but this is a strong LP with Vedder's vocals coming across as strong as any of the grunge instrumentations.
When this album came out it wasn't really what I was into at the time. A shame because this record is very good.
High highs, and some mids
I only knew Pearl Jam by name and had a completely different kind of music in mind when I thought of them. The album is good. I'm not entirely thrilled by it, but maybe that will come later when I listen to it again. 4/5
Energy comes spilling out of this record at various points, you could tell they were trying to impose their music and stand out from the crowd. Great vocals throughout, Vedder's pipes are strong and on good form. Some of the lyrics are deep too I enjoyed the mix of the album on my stereo, really well recorded, punchy and balanced. The guitar parts are lively, and detailed, the snare hits are loud and clear.
an all time great... vitalogy is better tho.
Even Flow.
Had several songs that I knew just not by name - but songs that you’d have heard if you’d ever been around straight 30yo men or in a gym. Music for frustrated straight men teenagers in the 90s.
4.5
Good stuff
Nice album, hard with its tender moments. Great vocal line, great bass
I like Eddie Vedder, just look at some of the mental clips on YouTube of him climbing stage rigging and hanging out way over the stage. And he does a great cover version of Masters of War and a beautiful soundtrack to Into the Wild. So he's much more than just a grunge & hard Rock front man. This album, while a bit long, was really enjoyed. Will likely listen again. 4 stars 🌟
Definitely one of the best “grunge-era” albums and a pretty stellar debut. The fell off a bit after this for me, but surely warranted to be on this list.
Classic. An album that I didn't appreciate until later in life.
okay! Will never complain about having to listen to Eddie Vedder’s voice. Love. wait holy fuck this is their debut? Imagine?? “He wrote lyrics for three of the songs in what he later described as a "mini-opera" entitled Momma-Son. The songs tell the story of a young man who, like Vedder, learns that he had been lied to about his paternity and that his real father is dead, grows up to become a serial killer, and is eventually imprisoned and sentenced to death.” Pearl Jam is so Seattle but I’m learning Eddie is Midwest to Southern California, and someone else is Montana; love that narrative for those who romanticize Seattle as only recently inundated by transplants who killed the 90s grunge vibes. But like, fuck Amazon etc. Cutie friendship with Chris Cornell. Omg they tried to sue ticket master for their monopoly fuckery in 1994 and boycotted for 3 years! I wonder if this is part of why they’re so big in the UK. (Are they?) HA cute they debuted at The Moore (before they were Pearl Jam). Which is where I saw Fortune Feimster in 2023 and somehow nothing else? I don’t buy it. WAIT OMFG was I first introduced to Eddie via the fucking into the wild soundtrack?? Mortifying? Also: is this grunge? I need to better understand what differentiates grunge. Maybe I need to watch their performances and videos.
as 'wow the music of fifteen years ago was great, we should do some of that' albums go it's a solid effort, and the arrangements are generally pretty good and not too repetitive, but the vocalist appears to mostly be unaware of the existence of consonants and none of the instrumentalists particularly distinguish themselves.
It was alright
Never been the biggest Pearl Jam guy but it's hard to ignore the energy on some of these songs. Even Flow still goes hard
A pretty darn good album
Maybe I've listened to this album too much in my life, but I really enjoy their later albums more. Still an absolute classic though.
01) Once - 7,0 02) Even Flow - 7,5 03) Alive - 10,0 04) Why Go - 6,5 05) Black - 8,0 06) Jeremy - 10,0 07) Oceans - 8,0 08) Porch - 7,5 09) Garden - 7,0 10) Deep - 7,0 11) Release - 7,5 TOTAL: 7,82 (78/100) Current ranking: 303/937
Hadn’t listened to the whole before, just had a couple songs saved. But idk it was a vibe shift for sure from what i usually listen to.
strong opener
My style and enjoyed it a lot, but still only saved 1 song - a bit too American for my taste
This album succeeds, even though it’s not supposed to. It’s just mucky music, but it somehow holds itself together.
Reviewing Pearl Jam's Ten, the album earns a solid 4/5, boasting incredible highlights despite a few duds near the end. Tracks like "Once" explode after a slow start with a heavy, Metallica-esque vibe, while the ok-sounding "Even Flow" and the brilliant "Alive"—with its stellar guitar solo and drumming—set a strong foundation. "Why Go" and the beautiful guitars on "Porch" are definitely nice, but the true crown jewels are the iconic, catchy hook of "Jeremy" and the very good "Black," which features a gold-tier ending of layered vocals and guitar repetition. While parts of "Garden" are decent, the album stumbles with the modified vocals and lackluster tune of "Oceans," and finishes on a low note with "Deep" and "Release," which both miss the mark. Ultimately, bolstered by really good sound engineering and recording quality, Ten stands as a great record that is just a few weak tracks shy of a perfect score.
One of the quintessential grunge albums. A classic
You know what, I quite enjoyed this! The grunge was really grunging but it hasn't dated in a cringe way and I thought it was good.
Hit the spot more than I thought it would tbh, good old fashioned Gen X RAWK but actually quite good!
Good. I can see why Pearl Jam is considered one of the best grunge bands of all time.
I have not heard this album in years. Its still as good as I remembered. Anthemic songs, brilliant lyrics and what a voice. It could easily be generic rock but its more interesting than that, example, the way they use their instruments and the very 80s almost Cure/Japan sound in Release takes it to a higher level. I have never bought an album by them, now perhaps it’s time to start.
TIL Guess I'm more of a Pearl Jam grunge guy than a Nirvana grunge guy
As much as Pearl Jam is now seen as a bit of a joke when it comes to Rock bands as a whole, when Ten dropped back in 1991 it was truly something else that helped push this brand new wave of mainstream music at an extremely accelerated pace to huge levels of stardom. The gravelly voice of Eddie Vedder is seen as a sign of shitty music for any other band replicating it, but for Pearl Jam it was truly their own creation and design quirk to their music to make it pop out. There is so much here one can dive into but I feel just about everyone and their fathers have already said it before. This album is emotionally rich despite its' very simple formulaic style. The tracks manage to transcend the audio and feel really whether to uplift with Even Flow or to crush with Jeremy and Black. Not much that can be stated here, it is great and that's about it.
A pillar of grunge, really dope debut album. Lots of hits
iconic 90s
Great album. Learned a few songs by them on the drums.
I know someday you’ll have a beautiful life I know you’ll be a star in somebody else’s sky but whyyyy whyyyy whyyyyyyyyyyyy can’t it be miiiiiiiiiiIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINE 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
Doubt will be the best album Fav track: why go Least fav: Jeremy
good albums but his vocals are a little annoying
I only knew Alive from this and have not knowingly heard anything else by Pearl Jam…but now I’m intrigued! Great and different sounding vocals, lots of layered guitar. High energy. Kinda reminds me of Lynyrd Skynyrd! Will be listening again and the rest of the back catalogue.
This album is a very high four. It’s not a perfect five, but pretty close.
Hard to say as a Nirvana fan, but this album is amazing. Tons of hits and an iconic sound.
Forgot how many hits they had, good listening.
A very good listen. Like. 4/5
An essential piece of the 90s. So many great songs.
Tough time with this album. Vedder's a proto-Chad Kroeger with his extremely distinctive voice and singing style. He's competent and listenable, but the growls and yelling, great every once and a while, showed up way too often for my liking. The songs are solid to great the whole way through. Composition and execution are quality. Definitely worth a listen, but best to return for only singular songs every now and then.
3,5
Best Songs - Once - Even Flow - - -
Even Flow is a BANGER. So are Black, Garden, and Release. Once, Alive and Why Go are also pretty good. I don’t have a strong opinion on any of the other songs. A few I think could grow on me but I didn’t outright hate anything. First half of the album is definitely stronger than the second part. Still solid album. Will definitely come back to it. TOP 3: Black, Garden, Even Flow 3.5/5 stars EDIT: The more I listen the more I love it. I keep coming back to it so I’m going to have to bump it up to a 4. BANGER album.
I don't know if I can hold Pearl Jam accountable for everyone that copied them..... but I would like to.
-when I was 14, I would have told you this is a perfect album. Now that I'm older, and know more about rock history, I see this as arena rock posturing -- these are guys with a modicum of underground credibility aiming for a superstar moonshot. To their credit, it worked; literally half the songs on this album got constant rock radio play. -the lead guitarist was found working in a guitar shop, and it definitely sounds that way. If anything has aged poorly, it's the constant Clapton-worship noodling. -Eddie Vedder's voice has been impersonated so many times it's almost difficult to hear him as anything but an "Eddie Vedder impression." Dude has a weirdly polarizing voice, his lyrics barely make sense (and never really rhyme), but he's got undeniable pipes, which is probably why so many people want to sound like him. -the worst thing that ever happened to Pearl Jam was getting lumped in with Nirvana. They were both from Seattle and wore flannel, but the comparisons basically end there. Nirvana are totally different (and a thousand times better, in my opinion), but if you disentangle PJ from the grunge hype machine they are nonetheless a pretty good rock band who made some pretty good records. -It sounds like I'm harsh on this album, maybe because PJ are an easy band to rag on, but I still enjoy listening to it and (for what it's worth) it's a "no skips" mainstream rock record.
No doubt a great album and a significant one from those grunge days a 5 as far as grunge albums go but an overall 4
love it but i‘m not astonished
Good variation of high energy grunge rock songs and slow daze like songs. Many high quality songs that stood out but my favorites were Jeremy and release.
> the Beatles
I think the appeal of this album is in the storytelling. The tracks I was already quite familiar with (Alive, Jeremy) tell emotive tales of difficult childhoods. Jeremy gives me chills still after many listens: the combination of the chords/melodies/lyrics at the chorus line "Jeremy spoke in class today" is one of those incredibly powerful musical moments. The Alive guitar solo does kinda annoy me. Its very on the nose. Overall I found the sound of the album to be a little bit less polished than I was expecting. Fave Tracks: Even Flow, Alive, Jeremy, Release 4/5
schitterende plaat, maar het is geen "Vitalogy"
Liked this way more than expected, even with Eddie Vedder’s vocals sounding like he’s eating a burger throughout
Things I like about Pearl Jam 10: Big Riffs catchy hooks, high energy, great melodies Things I don’t like: Eddie Vedders unintelligible, hurdy- gurdy vocals. Scrapes a 4 because the former are so strong they offset the latter just enough. 3.6
Hadn't listened in years, but really enjoyed it. Particularly the first half. 3.7/5.
Szacun 4/5 Ulubiony utwór to Even Flow
Me gustó bastante. Para entrenar o correr furioso, excelente. Puro rock.
I am familiar with this album, and four songs on it so it was great to get a listen of it all. Excellent album, all songs are good, most are great. 4.5
decent songs
Note : 4 À réécouter : Oui
I've heard this album a couple of times, and some of the songs are reslly good. I really like Garden, Once, Deep and of course Black. But I think the album is overrated. Not bad just overrated. I specifically don't lkke Alive and Even Flow, I have no idea why they are so popular
I thought I didn’t like them at all but I think I’ve only ever heard them on bad speakers. Still not on board with Even Flow though. Great instruments on this album. I’m not entirely convinced I like eddievedderswayofsinginglikethis but I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected to.
The garbled sound of the 90s was definitely a thing, but this album still hits regardless. Embrace the "who needs to understand" sound.
Grunge royalty today. Got some absolute anthems on here but falls short of the fifth star on account of being a bit plodding places, lacking the spark of some of its contemporaries.
Solid rock album that’s meant to be played loud. Lyrics are more story driven. Over 50 minute album that doesn’t feel long. I’m not sure if “Release” needs to be 9 minutes long. “Porch” and “Even Flow” are the song s that I like the most.
Not really a pearl jam fan but good album
sounds cool about as cool as every other solid rock record from the 90s 4/5
Long time since last heard this, and it fairly holds up today. The music just has a cathartic vibe to it. Vedders voice is pretty much ideal for the record, it just wraps you in the oblique lyrics. And yeah 30 plus years on I would rather listen to this front to back than nevermind too. Good record, 4 Stars
Good, but didn't quite win me over to elevate to a 5
Þétt plata.
I enjoyed this album, but as I was listening to it it felt more like a vibe than active listening. I was listening to it like an instrumental album even though I know there are vocals. It made me feel good to read the wiki and see similar reflections. This is the type of album I feel like was a gap in my home. My parents listened to older things and I didn't develop my own musical tastes until later. It was nice to listen to a Pearl Jam album and hear what the excitement surrounding them was about.
i love Pearl Jam. This album has a nice mix of classic loud rock and roll like "Even Flow" and "Once", as well as slow songs like "Black". The instruments are very strong, the drums are very heavy and prominent in alot of their songs. The guitars also play a large role, and I especially like the guitar riff in "Alive".
It was better than I expected
Solid album from a band who knows their sound
It was a great album. Every song was really good (except for the last song 🤮). Overall, I would give this a 4.7/5!
I’m just like my dad man
This is a very impressive album.
Haven't listened to Pearl Jam that much when i was younger but my uncle was so right about them
One of my all time favourite albums
Pearl Jam is pretty low on my grunge band list. That being said this is still a great album
I guess mostbof the songs I know from Pearl Jam are in this album, but I must say, this still surprised me. The album is really good, not only lyrically but, oh boy, the instrumental is quite rich and varied , keeping the mood of the album but adding some surprises along the way. . . Never liked grunge, but I must say, this is a miled times better than Nirvana. 4/5
Grew up on this album. Love it
I enjoyed this more than I thought. Haven't listened to the whole album since I was like 17. Timeless millennial dad rock with zero fat on it.
kind of rocks my socks off. not really any skips, one or two more complete bangers would net a perfect score easy. Black is incredible. strong 4
*insert Skate 3 clip of Jesus shredding for our sins*
Massive sounding record. Made to hear at a festival or stadium. This thing is big. Including Vedder’s voice, also instantly recognizable to the point of memeability. But I like it! I’ll give it a soft four. It’s a little too long for its musical palette, but I could see its nuances revealing themselves after more listens. As a wall of sound experience, though, it’s pretty riveting.
I have heard this album many times but been a while since I listened to it start to finish. I love Eddie Vedders voice and the production on black is fantastic.
fun
Massive number in the ol' teen years
A solid debut, with the opening one-two punch of "Once" and "Even Flow" kicking off the album in high style. Favorites: Once, Even Flow Would I listen to it again: Yes
Too young first time around. Glad to find it now
En vrai, cool ! J’aime bcp la puissance d’Eddie Vedder
Didn't know I was a Pearl Jam fan, but I've heard a lot of these before. Pretty good!
Loved this!
An important album
8.5/10 - Banger of an album. A lot of great songs, but I think the sum might be greater than its parts which is impressive for an album that has Even Flow, Black, Jeremy, and Alive. I think the supporting cast of songs is also really good. I go back and forth on Eddie Vedder as a vocalist. He has a great grunge rock voice but I wish I was able to understand the songs without having to look up the lyrics. The lyrics on a lot of these songs are great but you miss it with the smashed togetherness presentation. Great album though. Seriously considered giving it a 5.
I never got into Pearl Jam. I recognize the hits. Enjoyed the album. Great for a debut.
Classic. My favourite grunge band
8.5/10 Awesome album, particularly considering it's their debut. 'Even Flow' and 'Alive' are brilliant. Jeremy is a track I was less familiar with, but just as good. It's not surprising that this album launched Pearl Jam the way it did. Best track: Alive & Even Flow Will I revisit?: Of course
Banging This popped my Pearl Jam album listening cherry and I thought it was ace I'll definitely be diving into the rest of their albums
Fun, less my speed than the other Seattle rock. But well constructed. Four

Great, classic grunge. Hard hitting at times, but also poignant at others. Great sound, was instrumental in stoking the raging fires of the movement.
More varied instrumentation and vibes than any other grunge album I've heard. These boys were bangin em out proficiently. Highlights: "Even Flow", "Black", "Oceans"
hell yeah its grunge we are saved! 4/5
I was ten when Ten came out, so, a little young to appreciate it at the time. I am, however, of an age and musical predilection that Ten should be one of my favorite albums, but, it's not. Eddie Vetter's singing voice is love it or hate it, and I lean towards the latter camp. I've actually never listened to this album, though, I've heard all the singles on the radio, of course. These days I typically change the station when PJ comes on. That said, my disdain for EV vocals is fairly mild - on a scale of 1 to Bob Dylan, Eddie's only like a 4. I was actually very interested in giving this album a fair shake. It's a very good album, otherwise. The songs rock, and they're great to sing along to, if only I knew what in the hell he was saying...
Big grunge. Great album.
Feel 8/10: Love the Alt. Rock Length 7/10: 11 songs and a little under an hour run time Musicality 7/10: Alt. Rock, what else would it have? Amazing drums and guitar but honesty that's all I hear Flow 6/10: Most songs don't lead into each other but besides that it flows between songs well Lyrics 5/10: I honestly didn't understand most of what was being said but I rock with it Overall 8/10: Definitely would suggest to any rock or alt. rock fans
A true classic. I was too deep into metal when it came out to really enjoy it ; although I did like the mix of grungy and psychedelic sound, I was not convinced by the vocals. It has aged quite well though, and I'm much more able to appreciate it now. The guitars are insanely good, and Eddie Vedder's voice doesn't bother me as much as it used to. It's a great album overall - ferociously modern and creative, it really helped define the sound of the 90s. I don't vibe with it on an emotional level, so I can't give it a 5*, but it's certainly a milestone record. 7/10
Multiple classics on here
This one had some real bangers! I tired of the vocals after a bit, but I suppose that's also the appeal. 7/10
So far the best album I've heared in grunge so far. Probably because it's so based on classic rock sounds that I like. Some songs are very good, some are fillers or letdowns, but mesmerizing Release almost convinced me to give it a 5.
Muy buena voz. No es mi estilo.
Classic rock classic album
Eddie Vedder is a lyrical genius. 7.8/10
There is some really fucking good rock on this remarkable album. It is hard to believe that it was recorded a mere five months after their first show. This was clearly a group of musicians who bonded, probably partly over shared pain, strongly and quickly. Pearl Jam's music works due to the contrast of grungy, gritty guitar contrasting with the rich vocals of Eddie Vedder. The former elements share more with 70’s rock than many other bands labeled as grunge, but there is some post-pink mixed in there too, which combined with the band being from Seattle made the label inevitable. I listened to this album quite often after its release, but it has been on the back burner for years. Whatever label one applies to the music, this is a solid album that stood the test of time much better than I was expecting. Time to revisit again, particularly in spirit with this project, their collaboration with Neil Young, Mirror Ball. Talk about a bridge between decades of evolving music. Beyond their music, I respect their legal battle with Ticketmaster, initially lost but ultimately vindicated the week prior to me writing these notes. I appreciate artists who stand by their values, as this band has consistently done.
In the Pacific Northwest among most of the goths, punks, skaters, slackers and metal heads Pearl Jam was one of the easiest targets for slander for simply striving. In the modern parlance they were seen as sweaty. Their try-hard aura even after being born of tragedy (RIP Andrew Wood) was something that wasn't as apparent to those that were trying hard themselves: the student government, the popular and athletic kids. While being a skating slackadaisical goth-punk with a budding taste for local heavy output: Skin Yard, Tad, Soundgarden, Melvins, Mudhoney, and Nirvana, I was friendly with the other half and could see just how immediately they embraced Pearl Jam, with its radio-friendly classic rock vibes only nodding in the direction of their heavier peers and so, in 1991 and on through the rest of the 1990s I rejected them because that's what you did in the era where concerns about Selling Out reigned supreme in a teenage music snob's mind. When you had Fugazi doing what they were doing it was difficult to not see any of these moves by bands working with a major label as a mis-step. My critique was not sophisticated and I had to swallow my pride many times as I saw so many bands I liked sign with majors. I was foolish in the particulars (and doubly so in how I handled it) but not entirely wrong in general. And yet, despite some avid rejection of the band and occasional (okay frequent) ridicule of Eddie Vedder's vocals at that time, I ended up seeing them play live three or four times at festivals and shows where there were other bands on the bill I wanted to see. And, yes, they were great live. And yes, the songs were not all bad. And yes, if they had only been able to be called Mookie Blaylock (which I would've read as a deliberate tank on popularity)...And, if I could've seen into the future and watched them take on Ticketmaster, too. Well, then maybe I would've been able to get off my high horse and listen to their early records (plural by now) and maybe I would've enjoyed them. So, if you're even reading (hello bot in the Skynet or other lonely old head reading from your corner of the internet) you can see that I have baggage. My relationship to this band and this record of theirs in particular is complicated. If I had been a little more student government and a little less punk rock, maybe I might have heard things differently. But I'm not sure if every track would have been a slam dunk at the time either. And listening now? And acknowledging that my tastes have changed — I've opened up, become more accepting of some (but not all!) of that classic rock vibe and different kinds of song craft — I'm generally less strident. I can tell you the following: I was wrong, it's pretty good. Maybe for all those peers of mine who got into them Ten (serving as a bridge between classic rock and the then contemporary and so-called grunge sound) was also an onramp into some of those other, heavier artists as well.

banger after banger
Classic rock album. I used to love it more, but now it feels like a lesser album (some deep tracks don’t hit for me). Still rocks and sounds great. Well produced and highly influential. 3.9/5
Toit
This album is good, but it's no vs.
Favorite songs: Once, Even Flow, Alive, Why Go, Black, Jeremy, Release
Love jamming to Pearl Jam
Great album, lots of bangers.
Solid album. Pearl Jam has never been my favorite from that era, but on a relisten it is so clear how talented they are.
Never heard of it
This is like all the pearl jam I know on one album. It's my dads album for sure.
I forgot how good this was, incredible performances, recording, mixes. Sounds like a real (great) band, Eddie Vedder's vocals are insane. Lightly processed, his natural voice is very powerful. Dynamics!! In rock?? Mixing error in Alive - right channel of drums (hi hat) disappears intermittently. Probably intentional--probably more obvious than intended.
4,1/5
I liked Even Flow and Black
Great! Stand-outs - Once - Alive - Black
Extremely 90s. Between Even Flow and Alive it's hard to give this a bad grade, but I also don't fully love it. Maybe its because I grew up with it, but the music sounds almost a bit staid. 4
I can appreciate how critical this record was to the 90s. There’s even some great songs on it. But I just personally find Pearl Jam to be very generic sounding. But Ten is a great record.
Mochte alle Songs // meine Favoriten waren unter anderem 'Once', 'Black' und 'Garden' // Sehr tolles Album. ★
Not as grungy as I remember and more guitar shred. Kitchen mosh-worthy.

Great album, every song is strong.
Seen this album alot. It was ok, pearl jam not my thing but favorite so far on day 4

Pearl Jam's Ten rules and this is pretty great evidence of that. Their debut album sounds big and marks a transitional period in sound and production; there are so many instances that sound peak 80's while Pearl Jam's sound is clearly looking towards the coming decade. The whole album is great, but I wouldn't say I adore every track on it. They're all good songs and I find myself singing the whole album all the way through, but it's not quite perfect to me. Highest possible 4 star!
Favourite Track: Once
Epic, classic, loud. This review isn’t exactly music journalism, but I love this album and hadn’t listened to it in full forever. Pretty great start for the first generation by the generator.
8/10
Another massive oversight, a band I didn't like in the 90s for whatever reason and never gave them a chance since. So good opportunity for a reappraisal. I like it slightly more than I did, but still has a wiff of cheesy classic rock. Not bad though. 3.5 rounded up Heard before? Some Owned: No 48/202 (23%) Will I get: No
Really solid fast paced rock.
I've never been a fan of theirs, but half of this album is ingrained in my brain of how many times of heard them. Absolute classices from my childhood, i remember my favorite changing every couple of years. I never got into any of their other albums, but this is a 90s legend.
Dark, thick, spacious, narrative -- though sometimes the story is too thin or vague to evoke what it may mean to. The meme that Eddie Vedder is impossible to understand, though I find it's more true on the songs that are overall not as strong, while the tunes that have become part of classic rock canon are pretty clear as far as 90s alt goes. On the whole, this is a key milestone on the long walk of rock history, and like many such entries it has a few lazy indulgences by the artist that make clear why the hits stood out.
Otro discazo
This was pretty nice to listen to in order in one setting. It felt like being at a live show with the pacing of the music.
fun album but not a big fan of the vocals
Solid 90’s alt rock.
All time classic album, all time classic band. Do I love this as much as I did when I when I first heard it? I'm not sure I do but it's still great.
Fresh. Energic. Clever guitar parts. Feels like what Guitar Hero should be.
First 'side' of songs, essentially 1-6 are really strong. The song 'Alive' in particular blew my tits off, really impressed me. Emotional and powerful, all that good stuff. This song convinced me to give this album 4 stars. Aside from this, Once, Black and Why Go are very good too. The lyrcism on this album is very strong. Even if you're not a fan of this type of genre (90s alt rock), the yrics are something any listener with taste can appreciate. I'm still rather new to 90s alt rock, but I liked this. After around the 6th song, the quality does decline. 'Oceans' is still quite pretty sounding though. I don't get the appeal of the song 'Release'. Goes on too long and I don't like the outro. Overall, really enjoyed this. I'm new to Pearl Jam (only heard a couple of songs of theirs previously). I'll definitely check out songs from this album again. Well worth a listen.
Favourite tracks - Black, Release, Alive, Jeremy
Good
Me rend nostalgique.
I just wanna give this man a hug. He has so many feelings.
Classic
This was such an enjoyable listen, especially after getting a few lackluster albums in a row, this was a welcome change of pace. I think I just really like higher energy, higher paced songs that involve a lot of layered instruments. Especially if they evoke an emotion in me. And this album definitely did that for me.
Great album
Really great sound and some nice vocals, I had had this recommended to me some months ago so it's cool to see it pop up in the generator. Not excellent but will definitely come back to some of the better songs in the album
Strong 4
Fantastic 90s album!! Eddie Vedder is just too good
Classic grunge, great debut album, though personally i find it hard to listen to it after a while
Ten is a powerful and emotionally driven debut that helped define early ’90s rock. Eddie Vedder’s voice is the album’s emotional anchor, especially on tracks like “Alive,” “Black,” and “Jeremy,” which still hit hard years later. I listened to the original CD release, and while the songwriting and performances remain strong, the mastering leaves something to be desired. The album lacks dynamic range, and the dense, compressed sound can make the epic moments feel flatter than they should. Musically effective rather than groundbreaking, Ten sometimes leans too heavily into polish and grandeur. Still, its emotional weight and iconic songs secure its status as a classic. 8/10
1/22/26: Even Flow, what else is there to say? 7.5/10
The hits are still really good. It drags on at the end. Pearl Jam was never my favorite but the album is really good.
The hits are hits. Also, I just saw a video of Eddie Vedder singing Falling Slowing with Glen Hansard and that was so nice.
Another one where the singles STILL hold up, even though they've been in heavy rotation for 35 years. Never dug too deep into Pearl Jam, but this is a decent overall listen.
8/10. Some great guitar licks on this banger

Heard many times: 4.5; Really enjoy this album, and the singles and other strong tracks on here are incredible. Not sure how to explain it, but especially on the guitar solos, feels like not a note is out of place or wasted. Very anthemic and rocking/rhythmic. Favorite Track: Alive
Liked this album very much. Once, Jeremy and Porch were my favourite songs. Love these 90s vibes.
Classic.
Jeremy is favoriet
