Reviews (page 9 of 14)

I hate to say this, but I found this album a bit boring... I feel like this is not going to be a popular opinion

.let see

I’ve always felt I ought to like Creedence Clearwater Revival more than I actually do…

"Good Golly Miss Molly" and "Proud Mary" were my favorites by far. The rest I skipped about 2/3 the way through since the wailing vocals I just couldn't stand.

Reminds me of my childhood, hearing that in my parents car all the time. Fav: Proud Mary

Standard. Der Sound ist jedem ein Begriff.

I kind of take these guys for granted since they've been around my entire life, but they have a pretty unique and cool sound. I enjoyed most of these songs but because they're so familiar without any sort of nostalgia attached, they don't do a ton for me.

Enjoyed that specific American rock sound that is straight out of the soundtrack of every Vietnam War film. Cool riffs but I wasn't expecting so many covers for such an acclaimed album. I briefly saw John Fogerty at Glastonbury so this made me appreciate the significance of him as an artist performing there that I had initially overlooked. Rating: 3.5.

A band that I only really know from Chronicles, an incredible collection of their greatest hits. Tellingly, of that album's 20 songs, only 1, Proud Mary, comes from this Bayou Country album. I'm all for exploring bands through albums as opposed to hits collections, but this album could do with a few more top tier songs. 3 out of 5 stars.

kinda all sounded the same but a good groove solid listen overall

This album was decent, but a bit uninteresting for me. I really like the vocals, but overall most of these tracks didn't quite have enough energy to keep me captivated. I didn't entirely love the direction of their sound.

A bit repetitive for my taste, but a couple real legendary tracks. Favorite song: Proud Mary.

Last CCR record I listened to was Green River, and judging by my last review, I really did not like it. I kind of like most of the songs on this record other than Good Golly Miss Molly and Keep on Chooglin. I really don't like most covers on an album.....Especially a 33 minute long album where half of the album time is 2 tracks. Sticking in the Little Richard song is just kinda bleh. You couldn't think of anything else? Maybe don't come out with 3 albums in a year. Proud Mary......wasn't as great as I remember....dare I say it's one of the weaker tracks on here. I think Born on the Bayou, Bootleg, Graveyard Train and Penhouse Pauper are all better, but I guess Proud Mary has it's place....if you're rolling on a river. Actually, I think it's stronger if it's on a "greatest hits" type album...which feels weird to say. But by the time I get to it on this album, I just feel "bleh". I dunno, I guess CCR just hasn't won me over yet. They're all exceptional musicians and Fogarty has a great voice.....but maybe this genre isn't for me.

50 percent great, 50 percent meh. The great stuff really is great, though.

A classic album that I didn't enjoy all that much. The famous songs from this are good, if a bit time-bound. And the deep cuts overstay their welcome a bit (Keep on Chooglin' in particular). I wouldn't mind if this came on, but I wouldn't put it on myself.

This was alright. It didn't leave much of an impression on me but I had a decent time listening to it.

I see this as good background music and by this I mean that it's kind of boring and wouldn't spend time on this alone but pleasant either way.

I didn't really like it that much.. not bad by any mean but is not something that I will listen again by my choice 3/5

Graveyard train tyckte jag om. Bra munspel.

Proud mary + 6 (cumple)

Love the album cover but music left quite a bit to be desired for me personally. Still, I feel I need to go strutting round town listening to this.

Prefiero los singles por separado que los discos.

La ciudad no es para mí. 1969 Bayou Edition

There are lots of bands of which I am only familiar with their most popular songs and generally indifferent to. Such as the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Rush, etc.. As I am exposed to a broader array of these bands songs through this project, I usually ending up going end up discovering a new appreciation for their music or I ended up shifting that indifference into, well, maybe not hatred but into a don't really need to hear their music anymore category. After a couple of Creedence albums I can safely say that I remain fully indifferent to them and their music.

134/1001 First listen. I’ve never listened to these guys beyond their greatest hits. An enjoyable listen when you’re in the mood for this sort of thing. 5/10

A good reminder when you've forgot to choogle to keep on chooglin'

Summer of '69. I could have guessed that they were at Woodstock. Huge Vietnam-sounding influence. "Fortunate Son" would be written later that year. Born on the Bayou is probably the best. Rolling on a river. TIL this is "Proud Mary" These guys did a Susie Q cover. Looks like there are two other albums I'll be listening to.

esta bueno, muy lineal osea que todas las canciones tienen el mismo nivel. Me encanta la voz y buenos ritmos

Typical CCR. Some classics with a hidden gem. Can’t go wrong with CCR

Let's make that an 11-streak of 3* albums. Kinda disappointing because I do like CCR. But mostly, the hits are great on this one (Born on the Bayou, Proud Mary), and the rest are just fine. Like I've mentioned before, blues rock is just exhausting to me nowadays. I've been overexposed to the point where if I never heard it again, it would be too soon. Graveyard Train is a vibe, but eight and a half minutes is just brutal. I'll be in the graveyard by the time that song ends. The instrumental to Good Golly Miss Molly isn't great though.

there are some great moments here but a lot of of the song kind of just meander and get really boring. feels long as hell for an album thats only half and hour long

Second album I've gotten from this band. I think it shows as a debut. It shows promise while still not being up there with my favorite of CCR.

Bayou Country has a guitar sound that I really like — dry, simple, and riff-driven. At the same time, the vocals feel very intense and almost overwhelmingly American, which makes the overall atmosphere a bit heavy at times. It feels very much like the 1960s, and its relatively short length keeps that intensity from becoming too overwhelming.

Норм, но недотягивает до Green River.

Opzich oke album, allemaal vrij t zelfde. Proud mary lekker hitje

So here we have the original Proud Mary before Tina Turner reinvented it as a showtune and karaoke standard. And it sits nicely on a more mainstream blues album than has been churned out of the 1001 randomiser before now. It's all a pretty chilled, gentle push back against 'the man' with a few songs that will go onto the liked list, such as Born On The Bayou and Bootleg. Some of the tracks are a bit more forgettable and I'm not a fan of the Good Golly Miss Molly cover, but there's enough here for a solid 3 stars.

Pleasantly swampy.

That was a nice surprise, really.

I enjoyed this one. I think everyone my age has heard the two singles thousands of times, but there are some interesting songs that I had never heard. Not all of them land, but overall a good album

Achei um bom álbum, nada mais do que cultura americana, 3 estrelas apenas.

Some classic songs on this album, including Proud Mary (big wheels keep on turning).

Led Zep like - I enjoyed

A band and sound I was somewhat familiar with and can appreciate. Interesting to read about the creation of this album and the creative differences. Not much to the lyrics, but enjoyable all the same.

When did we stop making songs eight and a half minutes long?? We lost something as a society with the growing ubiquity of the under-three-minute-song, I'm certain. Give me thirteen minute ruminations or give me death! There are some bops on this album but I got hella jumpscared by Proud Mary. Probably my favorite song on the album--that or Graveyard Blues. Some banging bass and guitar riffs. Overall: I liked this album! Might put it on for study music. You can definitely tell it inspired a lot of later music.

me gustó!!! not much else to say. me gusta este tipo de rock

Como grande parte da música desta altura, acho que tem potencial para bater bem mais noutras condições que não o comboio de regresso a casa.

Intressante Musik

I think this is the worst CCR album they released in 1969, but still solid enough. "Born on the Bayou" and "Proud Mary" are the stars of the show here. The rest is fine enough, but doesn't touch those two songs. 3.5 stars.

Light 3.5. Has Proud Mary but doesn’t have Fortunate Son which is what you’d really want on one of the three must-hear CCR records before you die. This album would have been better if they collaborated with Carole King and turned it into the Bayou Tapestry.

Review - an ok album that has some of their memorable songs on it, but probably not the CCR album you need to listen to Rating - 6.5/10 Need to listen? NO

Bom álbum. Me passa uma boa sensação de abrir uma cerveja e curtir um som enquanto observo o entardecer no interior. Celest Gumiho.

i really like this kind of vibe. "proud mary" is my fav and i love its message. but i a bit struggle with long songs. probably a 3.5 ·˚ ༘

3.5 - good album

My pettiness far outweighs my integrity for rating these albums. Two CCR albums in a row is unnecessary. This album is far better than yesterday’s. The algorithm must be punished though. Unfortunately Bayou Country will have to pay the price.

3 stars To us is my third CCR album on this list and it’s another album of “I like the songs I already knew and can leave the rest.” Not bad and a short album, but nothing that made me really want to come back for that cover of “Good Golly Miss Molly”.

suuuuper cohesive. every song belongs in this album together. sometimes i forget how old creedence clearwater is and this song definitely reminds me when they're from! i wish there was more lyricism, in a way. i was definitely able to appreciate this album a lot and every song was enjoyable! the lower ratings are just for not really having lyrics and feeling more like a background track than anything else. this album is a very good representation of the band just being a group of guys in the 60s/70s.

A good entry point for CCR, it was interesting.

This record has a great groove, and some very recognizable hits. Love the cover of "Good Golly, Miss Molly" too. Highlights: "Born on the Bayou" and "Proud Mary"

choogle

This is really solid. The good kind of Dad Music. Good 3.

The hits on this album are a perfect summer BBQ playlist addition. The others are great but not as memorable. Still a solid album

Enjoyed the start of this album more than the end. Born On The Bayou and Bootleg were my favourite songs.

Cute bluesy/southern piece of work but still sounds repetitive and incomplete. Did enjoy the listen though

While I can appreciate the technical skill on display, the guitar work is top-tier and the vocals are undeniably strong, the album as a whole just didn't click for me. I respect the artistry, but most of it felt a bit 'mid' by my personal standards. That said, 'Bootleg,' 'Good Golly Miss Molly,' and 'Proud Mary' are the clear standouts and the primary reason this earns a solid 3 stars.

enjoyable little bit repetitive maybe not for me best song - Good Golly Miss Molly

These Californians taking on Louisiana personas reminds me of how the New Yorkers in Vampire Weekend pretended to be from Massachusetts.

Even the non-hits are pretty good.

I can't not like CCR, something about the guitars and everything coming together just appeals to me. Just taste the gumbo boah

3.5/5. The album where CCR gained their footing and cemented themselves as a foundational Swamp Rock/southern rock band despite being from Northern California. There’s a nice mixture or shorter, harder hitting songs and longer, jammier songs on here. That being said it is a case where everything done on this album will get done better by the band on future albums in my opinion.

If I lived in the bayou, I think I would love this. But I live in Oxford. Heh.

groovy - head bob along - guitar heavy

A couple of very good songs and a bunch of repetitive filler blues songs. Probably stick to the hits for Credence.

It’s alright, not my taste. I prefer 80s and 90s

The album came out in the same year as the last one. Honestly, I liked this one more because it's shorter and felt a little more ingestible than the other one. Kind of reminded me of the Shadowgraphs album that I picked up (although I do prefer that one, something about it is more enticing). I wouldn't mind owning this on vinyl.

undoubtably whips and rips. but not something i'm putting on unless i'm smoking cigarettes indoors or playing mailbox baseball.

Hard to rate for me. Some songs sound generic and it's a short album, but overall I like their sound. A high 2 low 3 for me.

I’m conflicted on Creedence Clearwater Revival because I really like some of their stuff - the first three tracks on this record get into some interesting grooves and are pretty inventive. But then there’s a bluesy stylistic shift in the middle of the LP which sounds less imaginative to my ears. I was surprised to see that Proud Mary wasn’t a cover and that CCR are the band who wrote this number! I’d personally take Ramble Tamble over this track any day, but I can still appreciate the cultural impact.

It’s blues rock. It’s fine.

I SEE THE SALFORD REDS ARISING

Song 1: Born On The Bayou - I thought it was fine, didn't really care too much for it Song 2: Bootleg - Liked it a bit better than song 1, so far getting the vibe this isn't really my type of album Song 3: Graveyard Train - Seems slower, I kind of like the beat but I don't think it's a song I'd ever think "oh! I feel like listening to this song" Song 4: Good Golly Miss Molly - Seems more upbeat and doesn't sound as country as the other songs, gives more rock vibes - I kind of like the beat to this one, probably my favorite song from this album so far, added this one to my liked songs Song 5: Penthouse Pauper - this one also sounds more rock than country, also liked this one better than the first three but so far I like Good Golly Miss Molly the most still. Song 6: Proud Mary - this is actually a song I know, I didn't recognize it originally by it's name but as soon as it started playing I realized I knew it and that it's a song I enjoy - this one was also added to my liked songs Song 7: Keep On Chooglin' - was curious what chooglin meant and found out it was a fake word made up by the band that basically means "keep on rocking" or "keep on having a good time". I thought this song was fine but I definitely enjoyed 2 other songs more Overall thoughts: The first couple of songs gave a more country type vibe, but as the album continues on it kind of gives more of a rock vibe. I don't think the first three songs were really my type of music. The next three songs I liked better and even realized I recognized one of the songs "Proud Mary" 2 songs from this album were added to my liked songs - "Good Golly Miss Molly" and "Proud Mary"

I like this.. the country, the rock and the one song that sounds like blues… I would say this album is a good 6.8 out of 10. Pretty good but mediocre.

Not as good as the other CCR I had on here

First couple of tracks were OK, thought this was going to be a reasonably pleasant (if average) listening experience... then I got to track 3. "Graveyard Train" riff is just way too repetitive, to the point I was finding it quite irritating, and the track is nearly NINE. MINUTES. LONG. I am going to be hearing that riff in my nightmares. "Good Golly Miss Molly" was such a relief after that. The second longest track ("Keep on Chooglin'") on this album does the same thing - just because there's an instrumental solo doesn't mean that the backing instruments aren't allowed to do ANYTHING but play the same riff on repeat forever. Highlights: "Good Golly Miss Molly" - I maybe just liked this one because it meant "Graveyard Train" had finally ended but it had something going for it I think. "Proud Mary" - classic "Graveyard Train" and "Keep On Chooglin'" ruined this album for me. I absolutely hated those tracks despite some cool solos in "Keep On Chooglin'". If they had been 3 minutes rather than 9 and 8 minutes respectively, then I'd probably not have minded as much, but the repetition was so grating that it distracted me from everything else going on. Very very very low 3. I'd go 2 but I did enjoy all of the other tracks so that feels unfair - if I listen again those tracks are an instant skip.

Honestly too short to really stand out. Favorite track was good golly miss molly

It was decent! I liked most of the songs even if they are a bit long

It's quite good but doesn't grab me like, say Led Zeppelin does. A solid three stars.

Скучний альбом

was busy today but added to the list

Proud Mary's a cracker. Everything else a bit swampy and plodding and vocals a little overwrought. Its a 3.5 for me - rounding down to 3.

Classic CCR

Pretty alright.

Really enjoyed this album

Great discovery. I was getting strong Led Zep vibes from a couple songs.

Besides the well-known hit-single "Proud Mary" only a decent album for me. 2,5

This feels like I'm gonna whistle and a bunch of guys with their hair slicked back are gonna come snapping behind me yk? I like it it's swaggy devious rock. It's cunt it's driving though the south with your windows down and some hay in your mouth. I'm hearing words right now that I've never heard before. I like it but it doesn't particularly stand out to me. Favourite: Good Golly Miss Molly Least favourite: Keep On Chooglin'

Rootsy, swampy, bluesy, soulful, rock album at a lean 33 min. A couple of classic songs in Born on the Bayou and Proud Mary. Forgerty seems to drive the ship and really elevates the band. A loose jammy feel to the music. But other than a handful of moments, nothing really pops here. It’s all fine, but doesn’t seem particularly or consistently special. Reminder to self to re-review Green River, as I actually listened to Bayou Country when I was assigned that one.

it's just good

It was fine, I really like their song "Fortune Son" but that was not included in this album.

It was okay blues rock!

I definitely liked some songs more than others, but not bad

A lovely little treat for an afternoon that wasn't all that interesting. I wasn't expecting to like it since it's not my genre of music.

I like graveyard train. Really cool solo.

I don't know how I feel about white men singing like black men. A little too repetitive. Okay, proud Mary is the song I knew, a classic nonetheless.

There are some absolute classics here, which I just learned came from this album. Great foot stompin' music. Favorite song: Good Golly Miss Molly

hm i like it but something keeps me from actually really liking it

I find it hilarious how this band from California is revered in the culture of Confederate South Eastern United States, a culture that is polar opposite of what California represents... It's kind of like how Kid Rock is a rich kid from the suburbs near Detroit, or how Bruce Springsteen is a "Blue Collar" musician... Maybe I'm wrong? At least they're music was pretty good some of the time

Didn't like this one as much as some of the other CCR on this list. Songs are more low key and meander a bit. It's still the classic CCR sound and it's a fun listen but not as impactful as other entries in their discography. Standouts are "Born on the Bayou" "Proud Mary" and "Keep on Chooglin'." It's a solid jam session, probably a 3.5/5 for me, narrowly missing out on a 4.

Not bad, kinda funky!!!

has potential bc i like one of their most popular songs. kind of all sound pretty similar. 2 that i liked. 1 that i knew. i know one other song by them. decent album just repetitive

Made me feel like I am in a movie, but not my style. I wouldn’t listen every day

Pretty good album! My first time learning about "swamp rock" and I enjoyed the dark mood and louisiana themes! Felt like reading a gothic short story. Also first time hearing the original proud mary which is such an iconic song for tina turner!

Quelque bonne chanson, mais assez répétitif.

I can definitely understand why people like this album. It’s a very groovy, fun album with a strong sense of movement. It feels like something you’d play with all the windows down while traveling or exploring, music that makes you want to move, dance, and just enjoy the moment. Outside of that specific setting, I don’t really see myself choosing to listen to it on a day-to-day basis. The songs were enjoyable and made my head bop, but it’s not an album I’d casually put on unless the situation matched the vibe. For me, it feels very situational but not something I’d return to on my own.

It’s alright. Good enough to not be boring but it’s not terribly interesting. Fine summer background music.

I'd have preferred Willy and the Poor Boys personally, but I can't really complain about the album that's got "Born on the Bayou" and "Proud Mary", now, can I? Plus it's got my favorite cover of theirs. Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of long meandering songs, and here Fogerty's giving us *two* of them. Now that's just not necessary, dude.

Such a distinctive style and sound.

This truly was a collection of songs.

I’d love to have heard this music live in a dive bar in New Orleans. As an album it got a little redundant.

Swamp rock

Good Golly Miss Molly! Why’re these California boys making bayou music?

I can really only take so much of this stuff

Fav: Proud Mary, keep on chooglin Erinnert mich an eine Autofahrt in den 80zigern mit einem alten Auto bei Sonnenuntergang, westernstyle

Great by the boys!

Not my cup of tea.

I think this is album three by CCR and it's another good one. Like the others, I enjoyed the the non-greatest hits songs like Bootleg as much as the hits.

Really good / rock and blues Proud Mary / Good Golly Miss Molly / Keep on Choogling my fav

Very mixed. Proud Mary and the title track are both great but a couple of others are too long and very simple repetitive blues

1. Good Golly Miss Molly 2. Penthouse Pauper 3. Born on the Bayou I liked the instrumentals a lot, voice gets a bit repetitive as there isn’t a great deal of range. I don’t think the lyrics are the first thing to grab your attention, but it leaves the impression that they would be meaningful if you read them properly. I think the songs sound more like short story telling rather than anything overly catchy which I like.

Twas fine

This is so close to being a 4 but I sadly just don’t think I’ll remember or revisit this album or any of its songs. A good time though! Felt like I should be riding a horse whilst listening to it

CCR has been one of my favorite groups for over 50 years. So, it's probably a little hard to be completely objective about this album. That said, there's probably 4-5 really good songs with the rest being album fillers.

This was alright. CCW has better stuff out there - this was pretty samey and unexciting for me.

Classic rock, cover is dope Stand-outs - Born on the Bayou - Proud Mary

Pretty good bootleg has good guitar part! like the instrumentals a lot, very classic rock like 3.5 stars if i could give like 6.5-7/10

already really like ccr. first time listening to this album for me. love how punchy the drums are

son buenas pero no sé si las escucharía seguido good golly miss molly tal vez si pero es como la tipica de rock and roll (ya vi que es la original)

🌟🌟🌟 really good but not my cup of tea, roadtrip movie vibe

not for me….. ⭐️ proud mary

Listening now

A raw rock blues album with country roots.

Overall a good album, but not my vibe

nghe khá hay và organic. chắc năm 1969 chưa cắm 50 cục phơ nên 0 nhiều distortion, nghe tiếng bass tiếng guitar tiếng trống rất rõ. vocal hơi khàn khàn, kiểu mấy ông 50-70s. có âm hưởng blue, call and response giữa vocal và guitar, laid back drum, walking bass, có cả harmonica. chắc tao thích graveyard train nhất.

was not expecting to choogle for 8 minutes that was crazy, also didn’t realize they recorded proud mary first

Not bad.

decidedly “not my thing”, but i thought it was fine overall. ccr are a band where i’d rather listen to their hits as opposed to their actual records.

Overall, very solid album, lacking in its "arc". Many songs are somewhat same-y. When it hits it hits, and it rarely misses, never catastrophically. (3.5/5)

This was from still early in the band's career and even though it's pretty good, it's not their best. Fogerty is a peerless songwriter - there's so much soul in his work, even if they're not always top-ten tracks. Sure his vocal delivery can be a little affected and cringe sometimes, but the songs are clearly timeless. Proud Mary and Born on the Bayou are classics and banger grooves, but the Good Golly Miss Molly is a great interpretation too. The only track that feels like it phones it in is Graveyard Train. Proud Mary could have used another guitar solo instead. The guitar work on this one is stellar. The solos and fill licks are so sweet.

Crunchy guitars, gravelly vocals and a whole load of deep Southery. What's not to like?!

A bayou is brackish and boggy. Swamp rock rises like a black snake moaning and a rotten log floating and then the guitars start strumming in the long heat an afternoon. These southern boys rose from the vines and Spanish moss with songs as oozy and infectious as an Alabama afternoon.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this. Fogerty obviously has an incredible voice, but the blues rock on display here is pretty solid.

OK but not their best.

I CAN STILL REMEMBER

This was pretty boring. Liked the other obe better.

Not a very memorable album. The last song was the best but I generally found his voice granting and most songs suffered from too many solos.

Not their best

This made me feel like I was in a chopper over Nam

Spanking a child turns him into a snot. Fear, that's what makes him a man. I know a place where a man's worth is measured by the ears hanging off his dog tags. The real hardcore shit. A true war story is never moral. It does not instruct, nor encourage virtue, nor suggest models of proper human behavior, nor restrain men from doing the things men have always done. If a story seems moral, do not believe it. If at the end of a war story you feel uplifted, or if you feel that some small bit of rectitude has been salvaged from the larger waste, then you have been made the victim of a very old and terrible lie. There is no rectitude whatsoever. There is no virtue. As a first rule of thumb, therefore, you can tell a true war story by its absolute and uncompromising allegiance to obscenity and evil. Feels like big rice paddy hours here. Knee deep in the shit. If this album had Fortunate Son it'd be a 4. Strong 3 otherwise.

I was happy when I saw that this was 33 minutes but then I realized there were multiple songs longer than 5 minutes. Album was fine. I did not realize that Good Golly Miss Molly was a cover the Little Richard version

Alexa loves CCR so I was like oh I'll listen to this but lowk I think it was mid. not bad but like It didnt excite me

Not a big fan of the word chooglin and also not super into proud Mary

Kinda fun. Didn't do much for me though. Nothing grabbed me.

Fun swamp rock album but not even in the bands top 3 albums for me. Good songs all and all but aside from the single nothing stands out.

I think I liked this more than I can admit to myself I did, but there's better versions of some of these songs elsewhere and I think this band and type of music are over represented here so that's a 3.

fine- nothing really called out to me. Maybe the style isn't my thing. "good golly miss molly" was fun though as well as "penthouse pauper". 3/5

Very bluesy very country very swampy. Proud Mary is such a well written song, this version is very bare bones. I enjoy the first two tracks quite a lot. Dig it

Starts real strong with the bluesy swamp rock number Born on the Bayou (full of Southern references but band were born and raised in California). Proud Mary is another good track (although slightly slower and less rocky than I remember it). Overall the rest of the tracks don’t live up to those tracks - the drums feel a bit plodding and there isn’t the same intensity in the guitar and vocals.

I know its not meant to be a sexy song, but man Born on The Bayou has a sexiness about it. Anyway...

Classic rock in its most classic form.

another generic 60s classic rock

It’s not bad by any means, but overall I find myself wanting Greatest Hits CCR versus album CCR. The hits on this album simply get me more excited than the lesser known tracks.

This is the Family Guy Purgatory of Albums. It’s fine. It’s got some good stuff. It’s not that good, but it’s not that bad. Anyway on to the next one.

This album makes you want to go on a Roadtrip

I love CCR, but this one is not their best - I put it on in the background and it worked fine, but I don't care too much about any of the songs in particular.

Better than I expected

This was pretty good, some nice riffs and funny lyrics in here but at other times it got way too repetitive for my liking

Ingen Fortunate Son direkt, men inte dåligt

Helt okej! Kanske lite ensidigt (Proud Mary sticker ut, men kanske mest för att jag känner igen den så väl) men föredömligt kort album.

It’s a got a nice jamming groove, though this particular brand of Southern rock doesn’t do all that much for me. At least they keep it tight at under 40 minutes.

This album has an example of a cover being better than the original with proud mary by Tina Turner (and Ike I guess) being heads above, Creedence Clearwater Revival's original version. Overall an okay album was anything special but was not bad. Middle of the road. 5/10.

3.4 I enjoyed it, but it was let down partly by an unnecessary cover of good golly miss Molly and the fact that I sadly cannot stand Proud Mary. Dunno why, but that songs really winds me up. Graveyard train the best of the rest I think.

A bit inconsistent and lacking lyrical on a few tracks. But the rest is great

I've never listened to a full CCR album before. This should be interesting. Track one, Born on the Bayou. I fell like this song needs no introduction. Track two, Bootleg. More hillbilly blues, I l like it. Track 3, Graveyard Train. Hillbilly blues with a slow groove. Excellent flow between the first three songs. Eight and a half minutes might be a little longer than this one needs though. Track 4, Good Golly Miss Molly. Classic rock n roll cover. Nice tempo change after the previous song overstayed it's welcome a bit. Track 5, Penthouse Pauper. Really feeling this bluesy one. Track 6, Proud Mary. This song is fine but it's definitely my least favorite so far. I just prefer the bluesier stuff. Track 7, Keep on Chooglin', whatever the fuck that is supposed to mean. This is basically the anthem of what I have now dubbed hillbilly blues. This one clocks in at 7:41. I feel like I'm these longer tracks, not enough is happening to justify their increased length. This might just a product of the age of the record. I'm not really sure. Solid 3 star album .

Not too bad

As seems to be quite common - I enjoyed the album but it hasn't made me want to track down more of their stuff.

I hear the appeal of Creedence right on the first track which immediately introduces John Fogerty as having one of the most striking voices of his time. Born On The Bayou is a slow ride taken through smooth and easy (years before Foghat). From what I hear, a part of these tracks are based on repetitive themes that may work but wear off if repeated for too long. There's a difference between Graveyard Train and Keep On Chogglin' where the former gets annoying at some point and the latter ups the sonic intensity a bit. Proud Mary is a classic of course, but the rest tends to pass me by with a good impression. Just not a great impression. I do enjoy this album in general, but I sense that there's better work by this group later on. This was only their second record and they would follow this up with 3 other highly acclaimed albums in the months following. I will give this the score I think it gets on the star rating, but it's going to go on the mid 7 range for me (7/10, 4/5 on this scale) (Update: 3/5 now, but Proud Mary keep on turnin')

Nice collection of blues and rock , well constructed songs which are very relaxing and lightly enjoyable

I love John Fogertys voice! Though the selection of songs on here isn’t the greatest it was still an enjoyable listen. I also never knew that he wrote Proud Mary.

As much as I love them I’m embarrassed to admit that this is the first Creedence album that I’ve listened to. Everything else has always been a compilation/best of album. Very good album 3.5 stars.

Liked it added good golly miss molly

Didn't listen to the whole thing, wasn't great in my opinion, but that doesn't make it bad, would listen to it every now and then

Solid rock album, standard stuff.

I wasn't born in Bayou Country. The nearest bayou is around 4,500 miles from me. Still I quite enjoyed this swamp-y record.

Solid album from the period, stand out track obviously Proud Mary. But generally pretty good.

Would recommended it if I had a father working as a farmer

This is one of those albums that works with an extremely limited sonic palette, which can be great if there's enough interest in the performances, compositions, or just the general vibe of the record. Bayou Country is a bit of a mixed bag in this regard. Obviously Fogerty's vocals aren't a univeral preference, but they don't bother me too much. However, there's just not enough variation for me to really get into this album - or really most of CCR. Like many bands from this era (or any era for that matter), specific singles taken in isolation can hit pretty hard, but there needs to be somthing more to hold my attention for an entire album.

This album wasn’t bad but I wasn’t rocking out either. The harmonica wasn’t annoying in this compared to the Bob Dylan album. Favorite songs: Good Golly Miss Molly, Proud Mary

Couple of good songs, but a lot of boring blues...

Easy does it. Kind of samey.

It's Creedence. It rocks/choogles. It's great. Favourite tracks: Born on the Bayou, Bootleg, Penthouse Pauper

It's good, but man is it short.

Not bad. Not bad. But not my favourite CCR album. An easy listen, if nothing else.

Some good songs. Classic album

A band I am always meant to check out. Never got a round to it. This is so so, couple of great tracks, some interminable jams. 2.5 rounded up Heard before? The singles Owned: No 19/1001, 19/77 (24%) Will I get? Probably not

EEEEEEYYYYYAAAAAH

Nice late 60s swampy blues rock.

I really enjoy the strong blues element in this band, but I have to admit that southern rock isn’t usually my go-to. It definitely wasn’t a bad album, though. As a South Florida guy, if I ever find myself down in the Everglades on an airboat wrestling alligators, this will definitely be my go-to background music.

I love when bands have their own theme songs.

not crazy abt it

This was fun! I like keeping it to the original 7 inch experience, it's just right for what it is. Impressive! Very clear, rugged, dirty, modern rock and roll. I would love to have someone else say they'd like to listen to this or some CCR in general. Because I don't think it pulled me in enough to make me come back to it. 3.3/5

Born on the Bayou caused me to check where they are from (NoCal). And while they still made catchy, bluesy rock… Doesn’t hit the same.

Fun one! Vocals were very grassroots and I felt like I needed to be doing manual labor or swinging a pickaxe or something while I listened along.

Second CCR album and I enjoyed this one too. Not as much as green river. But still, a nice surprise.

2nd album by CCR and have enjoyed them both. Marking this one down slightly (vs Green River) because i could have done without 25% of the album being taken up with ‘Graveyard Train’ plodding along but getting nowhere. Liked the other 6 songs. Can see myself coming back to this.

It's gatorin' time! With all the noodling that drags on, turning a short album into something that feels far longer, this risks being self indulgent. However, with guitars that sound this swampy it's hard not to feel the vibes, even if all a bit one note.

Nice old school rock I guess

I'm in the Midlands of England, I don't drive so I could never experience a highway. This album is fascinating to me. There's a lot of meaning and dialect I'm probably missing. This is probably pretty close to the ultimate blues record. I was listening to this in the park, it's Autumn, and this is vibing well with Autumn. The vocal knows where his wheelhouse is and it's so powerful, he rocks out in his groovy power every track, which is great. I look for variance though, when I've already been impressed. I don't get this Blues sad when I get sad, I get sad girl sad. I really itch to hear a Blues compilation firstly. I don't think I like the cover! "Chooglin'" is a term popularized by John Fogerty in his Creedence Clearwater Revival song "Keep On Chooglin'," and it generally means to have a good time, to keep going with energy, or to move with a strong, steady rhythm. The meaning of "chooglin'" can be interpreted as a positive affirmation to persevere through hard times and continue to enjoy life." That's very heartwarming, lovely. "You got to ball and have a good time, and that's what I call chooglin'." Keep on chooglin'! I was done by the end of this, it choogles, all the performances are excellent, and there's nothing to knock, its all powerhouse. It's all great and its all a powerhouse, which of course is brilliant. My mind interprets it as a lack of variety and range. I can't help that when "Bootleg (Alternative Take)" begun on the streaming version, my mind held quite a heavy sigh for hearing it again. The score will just weigh in a "not quite for me" factor. If it were live I'd be going crazy in the loveliest sense.

Bon vibe

Ca rock pi ca roll. Fun et groovy mais assez conventionnel.

Thought I was going to like this one more than I ended up. Iconic voice but the songs are pretty uneven

would listen again if i feel swampy

Sympa mais pas incroyable

It was ok not my kind of music

Never did love never did hate. Great mix of well-known classics and obscure. 5.5

Good Golly Miss Molly and Penthouse Pauper are terrific, blistering and high energy. Some are duller but they do rock.

Dad- 7 Mom- 5 Mike- NA Lori- 6.5 Michael- 7 Miles- NA Cole- NA Avg- 6.38

I like "Keep On Chooglin'". That's fun to say. Chooglin. Chooglin chooglin chooglin. Chooglin!

Another CCR album only eight days after getting Cosmo's Factory? I would have probably preferred someone new to start my work week, but I suppose I'll take it. I enjoyed Bayou Country about the same amount as I enjoyed Cosmo's Factory (three stars), though I do feel like the songs here have a little more identity compared to the 1970 album. BC is also a few minutes (and four tracks) shorter than CF, so I'd say I'm slightly more likely to return to this one in the future, but not enough to give it four stars. My main takeaway from Bayou Country is that Creedence Clearwater Revival wrote that "rollin', rollin', rollin' on the river" song and that it's apparently called "Proud Mary?" I might have gone my entire life without knowing that and I've heard the song at least a dozen times (probably more). Highlights: Graveyard Train, Good Golly Miss Molly, Proud Mary, Keep On Chooglin'

not really bad but also not really my kinda music (feel like i said this to quite some albums here haha)

Proud Mary was good and enjoyed this overall. Not my favourite, but a good album.

Let's keep on choogling in 2025!

I really enjoyed this more than I expected. I can see cypress trees and Spanish moss hanging from the trees. I can orange sunset over the swamps and hear the putter of boats fishing or pulling up shrimp traps. This band seems like they would be great live.

I don't know have much to say about CCR -- who certainly deserve their spot and I can completely get how someone stan for them -- but one thing that occured to me is that I can't hear their music without picturing a montage of Vietnam movie scenes.

Lowkey solid.

- can definitely see why it’s a classic. their claim to the title ‘greatest rock ‘n roll band of all time’ in their spotify bio is however entertaining to me. loved to learn that fogerty’s writing process involved staring at his blank wall, and that he had never lived in the bayou. not particularly drawn in by it but i like it well enough! spectacular guitar for sure.

Soft and rocky, not very exciting, Proud Mary revives karaoke memories...

CCR was a great singles band but imo they don’t have a truly great album. And if they do, it is definitely not this one. Bootleg, Graveyard Train, Good Golly Miss Molly (Little Richard should have sued them for this abomination), and Keep On Chooglin are bad. Then there is Born on The Bayou (solid) and Proud Mary (one of the greatest rock songs ever). I don’t get it either. But go listen to Chronicle, you do not need to hear this before you die, because it may kill you

Solo un poco repetitivo pero el pantano es el pantano

Starts out strong - I have always dug the solid groove of Born on the Bayou. Maintains its energy most of the way but by the end I was hoping that he would stop chooglin'.

Everything apart from the hits is standard southern blues-rock. Yawn. (It's never a good sign when the music improves when the album ends--I got Cinnamon Girl.)

I continue to be surprised that CCR albums are just alright.

Pleasantly surprised by this album as I am not a big CCR fan. This album, however, is them the best. Good, clean southern rock with a bit of an edge to it and not a lot of instances of Fogerty blatantly mispronouncing words.

Not really into the down-home country boy 1970s rock aesthetic tbh.

Not sure I've ever listened to this record. Obviously the lead tune is nostalgic and deeply ingrained for me, as are the 2 covers. Upon listening straight through though, all I could think was how fun it would have been to sit around while they played through this short record beginning to end. I would love that version of these songs. As is, it's choppy and sounds like they were told to write a radio hit and a radio ready cover so they could get the rest of the songs out there.

Definitely has the distinct CCR sound! I enjoyed it. Especially the first song

Not a bad album. It gets a little "jam band"ish which is alright by me. Obvious hits on here that land this album on the list on their own, the rest is probably not as notable. Still choogles!

This album is pretty alright.

- estilo fundador do rock sulista dos eua - muito imersivo e descontraído, porém curto - faltou as músicas animadas que a banda tem no catálogo

It was also a fine album. Solid as fuck classic rock and roll. Theres parts in that album where i loved the soloing and i could tell the historical "fuck the Vietnam war" the whole album pretty much marinated itself within

Also didn’t expect to like this at all but I really enjoyed 1 or 2 songs. Overall an enjoyable album but not really for me

Background, can't imagine ever playing this with the intent to listen to the songs.

74/100 not a crazy amount of music actually here, just a handful of songs, some being quite long nothing crazily special takes place in this record but that's okay you don't always need that, sometimes you just need good music that you can enjoy in nearly every setting, and that's what this is

Good, 33 mins. 6/10. Couple bangers. Upbeat.

I like this much more than the other CCR album I've listened to. I can hear the blues and it still has a distinct rock sound. 3.5 stars rounded down

Eu quando vaquejada

Decent "jammy" record from Creedence. The record that confused people into believing this was a group out of the bayou, but undeniably great sounding with fantastic song writing. A little less versatility displayed on this one, but for the second of three records released in one year, what could one really expect?

Buen álbum, interesante descubrir mas acerca de la discografía de este grupo

I like some CCR, but apparently I can't lie on my bed to listen to them exclusively because I will fall asleep. Graveyard Train felt a lot longer than 8:37. Proud Mary definitely the highlight for me. Classic. Listened before? N Saved to library? N Favorite tracks: Born On The Bayou, Proud Mary, Keep On Chooglin'

Noen kule låter. God instrumental og vokal. Kan av og til bli litt jokkete. Ikke beste albummet fra CCR

Guitar on good golly miss Molly is pretty sick. Penthouse pauper cracked me up. In general, a bit too country for me?

57 albums in and 3 of them have been CCR. The Brits love them some Creedence don’t they?

This is a decent album but not CCR’s best

I like some CCR, but apparently I can't lie on my bed to listen to them exclusively because I will fall asleep. Graveyard Train felt a lot longer than 8:37. I'm realizing that CCR isn't really all that great at making albums. This one is at least very consistent and maintains a good vibe throughout. And, honestly, in the context of the album, "Proud Mary" doesn't even stand out as much as I was thinking/hoping it would. By default, it is my favorite song on the album still.

Very solid CCR outing. 3.5

I’ll give them Proud Mary that’s it

Wonderful cover, ok songs. Not my usual style, but it was a good listen

Pleasant enough album but it dragged on a bit in parts. Not my favourite of the 3 of their albums I've heard either 3 ⭐️

Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention, but it seemed kind of repetitive.

Happy vibes, rock/blues. Fav : Proud Mary.

The album's biggest fault is that it can be better (which CCR pretty promptly resolved)

Good vibes, good guitar, not something I'll add to my collection but you can never really go wrong with CCR. Also Keep on Chooglin is such a funny name for a song.

Nothing wrong - just samey and overly long.

I like CCR. This is fine, fun, but nothing really stuck to me.

Highlight Song/s: Proud Mary This album was pretty bleh. I guess that's what happens when you pump out 5 albums in like 18 or so months. CCR has some other albums on this list, so I will see in due time if they are more like a singles sort of band instead of an album-oriented band - I'm thinking they might be a singles sort of band.

This country rock sound isn't my go to but it's done well. Proud Mary is one I'll go back to though. 6/10

Uvijek se žalim da mi albumi zvuče previše američki i da mi to smeta ali mi je kod njih sasvim ok. Prolazno.

Not familiar with a lot of Creedence outside of their big hits but this had their classic sound and was pretty solid.

Bayou Country has some killer tracks and a great vibe, even if a few songs feel a bit repetitive and drag on a little too long.

I’m chooglin

Turns out Im a new big fan of this great band. All albums are good and well produced and their sound is unique. This is not the best yet still really good

muy rocanrolero yanki, esta piola aunq es lo mas dad music yanki q hay, la voz me la baja un toque pero los pedacitos medio psicodelicos la suben

Bluesy, country rock/swamp rock/American roots music from the late 60s. Proud Mary is great, the other songs are good musically though not really my kind of music. They had a distinctive sound and I like Fogerty's singing. But from this band I would rather listen to a best of album than any of the studio albums.

Had no idea that Proud Mary wasn't by Tina Turner. Actually quite like this album which is a surprise for me!

not my type

Rock n roll for cowboys - blues and country

I enjoy some CCR now and then, but rarely a full album. It's not a horrible listen, but there's too much country/folk in there to deter me off.
