Reviews (page 10 of 14)

Like the hits

5/10 definitely not creddences best by far

It’s CCR.

Really liked this one, though a couple jam sessions dragged too long.

Ehhh it's enjoyable enough, some nice sound to it, but none of it really sticks with me.

Country bumpkin rock but not their best album

Damn what a way to open an album, I wish the rest of the album reached that high. When the songs arent as good or memorable the vocals start to be a little more grating, I find. Its unfortunate, I like this kind of deep south rock, but this was a bit of a letdown. That being said, if you're a CCR fan you'll most likely love this album. Even the side of me that loves long drawn out blues riffs got a bit tired by the end, which is unfortunate because I'm sure they could've tightened this up. I liked the Good Golly Miss Molly cover way more than I thought I would, but it wouldve been nice to see the same effort from the rest of the album.

Highlights are Born On The Bayou and Proud Mary. The lead guitar is surprisingly good throughout. Still, it's overall less interesting than the other CCR album on the list (Cosmo's Factory).

не в восторге.

looking at the auto generated playlists this album is in doesnt fill me with hope, it more fills me with trepidation for what is next when twin fantasy finishes. I don't really think classic rock is for me, i haven't been a man from the sixties that runs a starship for that long (jim cites his fave band being queen (will shatner civered bohemian rhapsody but thats the closest thing i can find)). Like i can enjoy ac/dc enough, but this this is jus kinda like stale bread, its flavorless. I guess the riff in graveyard train was fine, this whole thing could be described in that one sentence, its like a good riff and then they forgor to make the rest good. overall it was fine, nothing id return to though.

I feel like I’m missing the key thing that this band thrives on which is me being 50 and my dad having been a really big fan of them when I was born. Idk, born on a bayou is the stand out obviously but nothing else really did it for me. There were a few moments I got hit with the “oh they wrote this song, cool!” (Did not know proud Mary was called that, didn’t know they wrote it, good song). I’m teetering between 3 and 4. Oh also sick album art for 1969

When a song's lyrics includes "rockn' n' rollin'", I instantly think it's cheesy. For as much hype as this band gets, I thought it would be a little bit more interesting. There are a couple of classics on here, but other than that, it's pretty mid and boring. Classic white boomer music. Weak 3 is generous

essa capa eh bacana, hein mas de resto eh rock normal né, estadunidense até o cu fazer biquinho. meio xoxo

The original Proud Mary is still the best one, fight me!

Fun. Sometimes boring. 3/5

Some good southern rock. Great musicianship and a couple of really good tracks. The guitar work is really good. Just not the biggest fan of Fogerty's voice.

Don't mind me a bit of Credence

As far as CCR records go this is a weaker one imo but not bad at all. Guitar playing was killer

Instrumentally great, and oddly kind of relaxing to listen to. Highlights: Proud Mary, Born On The Bayou

Dragged after first 2 songs.

Awesome bluegrass instrumentals. Proud Mary definitely stands out as my favorite track.

Not my style, lot of soul, some pretty neat songs.

I think you have to love graveyard train to love the album. I don't but this is still very solid work

good songs but i've just heard them in so many places like grocery stores that it feels like background music

It's like it read my review of last week's CCR of "a little goes a long ways" and decided to give me a lot more CCR.

Fantastic Album, love this sound.

Including Bayou and Green River on this list and not Willie and the Poor Boys is a crime.

not bad, i think? Nothing memorable, just went by in the background before i realised it's finished

Listened Before? N Pretty good. Standard CCR stuff. I like the lead single more than almost all of the rest. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Born On The Bayou

It’s alright. Very very 1968. Maybe if it was my first time listening to CCR or rock music I would be blown away, but as it is I’m not really sure this is required listening.

again not really my style but it was better than the other one by them

monótono

Cool to hear more shades of CCR beyond the hits that get used on movie soundtracks. More groove and soul layers than I would have expected. Definitely iconic sound.

Proud Mary is decent, but there are better CCR albums

Nothing really grabbing me here. Think I prefer the hits. Simpsons: Just going to assume Fortunate Son was used in some sort of Vietnam parody.

This was ok, I could listen to John Fogerty all day. This feels like a jam session where a couple of the songs go on for a little too long. Proud Mary and the cover of Good Golly, Miss Molly were probably the highlights for me.

Pretty good shit, not much variety but it does what it does well.

Ei paras CCR.

Better than I expected, but this is still weird republican uncle rock in my book

Very pleasat.

Pretty consistent and rocked out well.

Proud Mary (Big wheels keep on turning, Proud Mary keep on burning) Rustig, gedateerd maar wel erg melodieus album

Not my style but has some bops! Misogyny tho

John Fogert is a legend!

Great vibe, classic tunes, was great to listen to but I won’t return to it.

Alright

Very good.

some fun CCR mixed with some overlong non-standouts; might warm up to this more in the future.

Solid psychedelic cruisin’

Very good swamp rock/blues album, although not my favourite CCR

An album that enjoyable from start to finish. Sixties towards Seventies country rock with touches of psychedelia around the edges. A perfect album to return to on long drives. Favorite track: Proud Mary, that just eases up to the last track.

Hits are amazing. Other tracks are bluesy vamps that were probably great live.

I don’t dislike this band. I just don’t want to listen to them. It’s all very well done. It just requires hard drinking.

Interesting album, I recall hearing some of it in my youth. Just not too exciting.

Cool album. Has a nice sixties vibe to it.

Good southern swamp rock

i've been holdin out hope for the Creedance, man. CCR and their stripped back no bullshit sound has always connected with me. I'd suffer through hotel california on the local classic rock radio station 95.9 the river while driving around in highschool to get a sniff of Fortunate Son. And play it super fuckin loud. I love CCRs music, but moreso than I actually like Bayou Country as an album. It as a collection doesn't move quite like blasting Bad Moon rising or sitting around in the heat and listening to Lodi. I feels weird saying this but it's a 3 for me. Still love CCR man.

Got a bit bored by this

short and sweet

Rocking

CCR is a really good band and this is a really good record

I feel like every blues album sounds the same. Luckily its an ok sound.

Started slower, liked the second half of the album. Felt like a solid combination of blues, bluegrass, rock, and country. 3/5

Not the most varied, but still quality stuff

Some pretty sick guitar solos here and there but overall didn't leave much of an impression

It's exactly what I expected from Creedence, that raw Southern state sound. It's the real iconic sound, but not groundbreaking like some of their other stuff. I would go back to this if I were on a long road trip, especially if I were in the South.

I like his voice Cool harmonicas/folky instruments

Pretty good, and I liked the “swampiness” of it all. Not particularly my thing, though.

1. I enjoyed the second half of this album more so than the first, it seemed to pick up. My favorite from the album would be 'Good Golly, Miss Molly' Overall pretty solid, but not sure there are many songs that I would go back to organically.

Okay-ish. But nothing special

Classic CCR, really only one or two songs I know

Loved: Good Golly Miss Molly, Proud Mary Decent: Born On The Bayou, Bootleg, Penthouse Pauper Didn't Like: Graveyard Train, Keep On Chooglin'

I love the greasy blues sound of Fogerty. CCR is one of my favs. The LP is so-so for me. That year for the group is historic.

It was fine.

Yet another nostalgia trip inducing classic rock album. It makes me think of warm summer days in high school; getting high, jamming, going for a swim in the river close to our jam space, inevitably waking up my friend’s parents by playing drums too loud past curfew. Favourite tracks: Born on the Bayou, Proud Mary, Keep on Chooglin'

Good. Loved the intros to each song probably more than the song. I heard it through the grapevine - finally know who sings it.

Deserves 3 stars just for using the word "chooglin'" in a song title.

kinda a 2.5 to me but i’ll round it up to 3 bc im feeling nice :) it definitely is of the era and drags on a bit at times but its a cool groove that i can vibe with all the same

I find CCR cheesy. I know it's (hallowed) classic rock, and I used to play a lot of CCR covers, and they certainly go off. I have just never really understood their place in classic rock folklore. Its OK - just a 3.

CCR’s albums function better as a collection of songs. Settling aside the fabrication of their connection to US South / Bayou, this is one of thier better albums. Some strong material overcomes their issues as a limited singles band.

Good rock!

CCR at its bluesiest? Still good stuff

Decent. Always like the vocals for CCR This album is a bit of a mixed bag of great songs and endless blues numbers.

CCR has a handful of good singles and only one of them is on this album.

This was pretty fun. “Born on the Bayou” and “Proud Mary” are good songs of course, but I also enjoyed the rendition of “good golly miss Molly” and “keep in chooglin”. Also, chooglin’, what a word. I think the only real boring song on here is “graveyard train”, it just went on too long and didn’t have enough going on.

Now when I hear Born on a Bayou in a movie I'll say, "Hey, that's Creedence Clearwater Revival."

5/10 6/10 5/10 4/10 6/10 7/10 5/10 Total score: 38/7/2 Stars: 2.7

Good album.

two songs were wayy too long, otherwise very good

This was not what I expected. Mostly good solid rhythm and blues. One or two tracks more like the classic CCR sound. Enjoyable

I did not use a private Spotify session for this one. CCR, southern fried bayou rock from a bunch of Northern Californians. They had a thing they were going for and nailed it, then stuck with it.

These guys are awesome. I will say that this is one of those greatest hits those bands - don’t care about individual albums, give me the bangers. If it was greatest hits I may say 5 stars. This is probably give three. CCR isn’t one of those let’s check out the progression of this bank from album to album.

Fun but a little boring at points 6/10

Pretty good, but I wouldn't want to listen to it all day. Seems like good music for an hour or so but after that I think it'd get old

BORN ON THE BAYOU. Nice tunes. Very bluesy. Laid back vibes to some songs. Not quite my tempo but I liked it

Amazing how relatively unremarkable instrumentals can be completely saved but a unique and talented vocalist. Pretty repetitive instrumentals for the most part. The song that I enjoyed the most was actually the song with the least amount of instruments playing in “Graveyard Train.”

Honestly? Pretty weak, Proud Mary aside. Definitely not one of their best, not even one of their best *released that year*. Cosmos Factory and Green River are certainly deserving of being on the list, but if they really needed a third entry I would have swapped this for Willy and the Poor Boys.

Short review due to being on vacation. CCR are legendary for a reason. I find it difficult to fairly rate albums that are older than me sometimes due to lack of context. I probably wouldn't revisit this album regularly (even though I have a vinyl copy in my collection), but it is certainly not a bad record by any means.

Rockmusik aus den 60ern, nicht sehr spannend. Proud Mary ist bekannt. 3/5

It's CCR - you get what you'd expect. I don't care much for it, though.

Interesting listening to a CCR album all the way through, as I've never been able to sit through more than one CCR song at a time on my own free will. Surprised by "Good Golly Miss Molly;" wasn't expecting it. Album is a snapshot of Americana of the 70s (musicianship much more based on relationships than on building a career).

Perfectly fine.

It’s CCR.

One of a kind but so deep in the American songbook it is difficult to hear fresh

very good album

with only 7 tracks on album you would think they wouldn't have any covers.... Born on Bayou is best track on album. overall, not as strong as Cosmo's but still a decent listen

Honest Rock & Roll. Good guitar licks. And the one and only Proud Mary, as it should be played.

I was pleasantly surprised by the first two tracks on Bayou Country. Born On the Bayou and Bootleg both sound like Dr. John, but for Vietnam GIs instead of freaks. Dr. John would go that way himself in the 70s, but, for '69, Fogerty's twangy licks and powerhouse vocals will do for the normies. However, being straight will get you only so far in rock'n'roll. While Fogerty expressly never did drugs, Graveyard Train blocks the album like that one of those big balls of defecate that you pass when you're on a long course of morphine. Too large and consisten, it congests the bowel, tears the rectum, and clogs the toilet in turn. Then, when you think it's finally gone into the system, there's this awful version of Good Golly Miss Molly. The counter-argument to a stodgy cover of a rock'n'roll is the stodgy original of a rock'n'roll classic: CCR's Proud Mary sounds more like Whippin' Piccadilly than the dynamic Tina Turner reimagining that people love. Fogerty's just too straight and normal to get it or to do anything with it. He probably doesn't even know what it is. Despite the final exhortation to continue choogling, to honour choogling in my heart and try to keep it all the year, I can't - choogling sounds cringe. 2 I expected, but can’t say with absolute confidence that this isn’t, verifiably mind-numbing, four square, barroom blues poop for slack-jawed, baseball hat wearing, beer-bellied, backwater savages because, fortunately, I listened to this while driving today and I suspect that as a result principally of hearing it while bombing down a motorway I really enjoyed it. There is just a successful concept at work here - slovenly swamp rock. The relaxed drumming with its brilliantly stupid almost-rolls that most of the time can’t be bothered to make it off the snare. The rhythm guitar hacking out the same dopey 7 half-chord for ages. Keep on Chooglin’ only has one chord, but it lasts 7 1/2 minutes - I was really rooting for that chord by the end. The lead guitar lines, full of character, but with the element of one-take-and-leave-it sloppiness in them. Don’t know what to say about the singing and bass - they were just great. Even the cover photo seems to fit. The album has peaks and troughs and the large watery ditch that is 8 minutes of Graveyard Train but even there I enjoyed the harmonica solo. While driving of course. I worry how this album would sound at home in the quiet of the evening as an accompaniment to physical weariness and a cup of tea, the motorway is obviously the best place for chooglin. 3.5/5

You hear half this album and you've heard all of CCR

I've enjoyed Creedence Clearwater Revival, but a third album, especially one that's so heavy on the covers seems pretty pointless. The cover of Good Golly Miss Molly did make me smile, only because, on Cosmo's factory, I'd said that "Several of the songs sounded like countryfied versions of Good Golly Miss Molly" so I felt a nice bit of validation. This is the weakest of the CCR albums I've listened to though.

Heard most of this before. did not know it was one of 3 albums out that year. Different era for sure. Not the originators, but they certainly did well in the petty fighting realm. All in all, a good little country/rock album.

Some popular songs. Reminds me of parents with the blues-y aspect

Not bad, Graveyard Train was a drag though

In a past life I probably would have regarded this more highly

I liked the two hits: Born on the Bayou and Proud Mary. The rest of the songs were ok. The sounds is generally good, but not quite enough for a 4-star.

It’s a great album with very heavy 60’s vibe. Has a little jam band along with some great folky rock.

Creedence Clearwater Revival have such an American sound. Rock and roll with a dash of country. There is some great guitar on this album. Penthouse Pauper was a great song. Proud Mary is an all time classic. Favourite song: Good Golly Miss Molly. Least favourite: they were all good Album artwork: A bit blurry

I didn't like this one as much as Green River. The hits are massive, but the rest seemed like a generic blues bar band.

Good album but I don't know if I would consider it a classic.

swamp vibes

Really transports you to the Bayou

Knowing that these cats are from California makes listening to these songs odd. Great music either way. Just a strange feeling.

not my favorite. A little too Louisiana for me

6.5/10 Favorite Tracks: Proud Mary, Keep on Chooglin Least Favorite: Bootleg, Graveyard Train

I really liked Graveyard Train and Keep on Chooming Not really my Genre, but was still enjoyable

Not a bad album.

straight forward oldschool rock

Are there even any other "swamp rock" bands? If there are, CCR is the best. I think there was another album of theirs on the list, but this one has to be at least as good.

Another good album. 3.5 stars.

There are maybe two songs on here that I think are amazing, 'Born on the Bayou' and especially 'Proud Mary' which is such a great song. But some tracks feel really bland and drag on longer than they should, like 'Graveyard Train'. The storytelling on the album is good and interesting, but there are a lot of moments that feel very generic. I’m not saying it’s a bad album, it’s definitely a good one, but it’s not great.

Nicht memrable, nicht gut, nicht schlecht Vergesslich

I’d like to give these stars to Tom Fogerty for some nice blues guitar work. Also thought their version of Good Golly, Miss Molly was strong.

Good guitar playing and a really good cover of “Good Golly Miss Molly”. However there are some longer songs that dragged, and the lyrics here are half-baked. Their next couple of albums are a lot more sophisticated than this, especially the lyrics/writing. (Also, when I need directions to get to the bayou, I use Choogle Maps.)

Prior to listening to this album iv'e only heard one CCR song. This album was shorter than I expected, only 34 minutes long. It opened up my mind more to country rock. I love the bluesy guitar pieces, the songs are definitely upbeat. Some of it is kind of repetitive and formulated but it was an easy listen. "Born On the Bayou" & "Proud Mary" were probably my favorites. I enjoyed it more than I thought. I can see these songs being used in a movie. It's a solid 3 for me.

little southern sounding for my taste, but all HAIL EL CERRITO

iconic music, even though not all are bangers. but it makes me feel like wading through a swamp or tearing down the system

Proud Mary was the good one Very twangy

Another good CCR album. They didn't make any bad ones afaik. This one was on the "only good" side though. I'm not sure if it's because the singles are so well-known and the non-singles were too bluesy, or what. I think it's something like that. Still, it's CCR and therefore good. 3.25/5

вайб присутствует

Never heard this album before. This kicks off a 4-album run that CCR had over 18 months during 1969-1970. The albums all had at least 2 or 3 classic songs and culminated in the great Cosmo's Factory. I didn't realize that CCR release so many of their classic songs in such a short period. It's really an amazing burst of creativity that seems to have been forgotten. In any case, this album is short (33 mins, 7 songs), and a lot of the songs are unremarkable. The one highlight is Proud Mary, possibly Fogerty's best song. It still sounds unique and memorable.

A few good things but a few nothings in there.

A couple classics, but the rest was pretty forgettable.

I thought it was a different style and I like the sound behind the choogling song. didn't really feel anything

Born on the Bayou and Proud Mary are good but the rest is just ok. 3 stars or C+.

it is quite not my type

FolkRock, 1969 -> 3

Proud mary

I don’t dislike CCR but I do also feel like once you’ve heard one song you’ve heard them all. 3/5

Proud Mary's a cracker. Everything else a bit swampy and plodding and vocals a little overwrought. Its a 3.5 for me - rounding down to 3.

Bayou Country is significantly more bluesy then you’d expect based on the hits, Born on the Bayou and Proud Mary. The album feels authentic 6.8/10

Gear: Fostex TH610 Artwork: 📸🚂🍃 Production: 🧏‍♂️📏💩 Music: 🎸🦅🐢 Rating: 🦅🦅(🦅)/5

I love the short songs. The long songs are just too much for me.

Swamp rock, swamp life at its best.

3.4 stars rounded down.

Good album, a lot of songs from CCR that I hadn't heard before. The highlight was definitely proud Mary but a couple of the other songs were good. Nothing I'm in a rush to listen to again though.

Some of the songs are great, but not all off them. The singing is tiring. That man is either on or off. No in between. Favorite song: born on the bayou.

Missed this somehow yesterday. I wouldn't hold much luck for the CCR though dude.

Bluesy rock at it's best

something about ccr just doesnt click with me

Pretty solid CCR album, though not their best.

I saved a couple of songs. Nothing special, maybe it's not my thing.

fine, but worse then everything else i like by CCR. not bad, but not my thing , a little heavy rockish. 3 stars.

Pretty chill, laid back rock n roll.

keep on chooglin

This was alright, very 60s vibe but not the same old. Highlight: proud Mary

I like the two long slightly weirdly metronomic ones.

These guys are goated and underrated

Lidt kedeligt

Pretty solid overall.

For 60s quite enjoyed this 6/10

Didn’t pay a lot of attention to this one. It was fine. Standouts: Born On The Bayou, Good Golly Miss Molly, and Proud Mary.

A couple of classics, but I was underwhelmed by the rest of it.

It's a CCR album. They've got that swamp rock sound that we all expect and enjoy. I like Cosmo's Factory more, but this one has no skips.

CCR has always run hot and cold for me and this album was no exception. "Penthouse Pauper" was a pleasant surprise and was my favorite song on the album. After hearing "Proud Mary" umpteen times over the course of my life I wouldn't care if I never heard it again. Averaging out the highs and lows this is a 3/5.

Born on the Bayou is great. The Good Golly Miss Molly cover was unnecessary. Still would have got four stars if the didn't drag it down with Keep on Chooglin at the end. It was just too much.

My biggest take from this album is that CCR's cover of Good Golly Miss Molly deserves to be more famous than their cover of Proud Mary. Really excellent work on that track, bringing a heavy blues-rock sonic environment while not losing the swing and swagger of the original. Apple Music tells me that the 7-minute "Graveyard Train" and "Keep on Chooglin'" are designed to establish CCR's cred in the jam-focused San Francisco scene. Maybe that's true, but to my modern ears they're each at least a minute too long, if not two. And that sums up a lot of this album for me - clearly some good stuff but also a lot of self-indulgence.

Hooray, more classic rock! Oh my god, it's been SIX WHOLE DAYS since I've gotten a 70s (close enough) rock album! I wasn't quite sure how I was going to survive without listening to another goddamned 70s album but THANK GOD that dry spell is over. OK, now that the snark is over...It's not bad.

There’s something about the sound quality of Creedence recordings that makes them sound antiquated. This isn’t their best release but it has a few cracking tunes on it. The title track is the standout.

I like CCR more when Fogerty isn’t singing. It’s fine most of the time but he lays it on too thick.

nice blues album, big love

Creedennnce!!! "Born on the Bayou"?? this homey is from the Bay area. Honestly I find his voice kinda grating. This Good Golly Miss Molly cover is too much. Points back for Proud Mary. Can't hate it though i honestly don't love it. Maybe a 2.9/5

Classic

Nothing revolutionary, nothing terrible. There is much better Creedence Clearwater out there. Overall solid, but the album felt repetitive, slow and frankly boring at times. "Proud Mary" and "Graveyard train" were the most enjoyable tracks for me.

It's stylish, but songs tend to be quite repetitive

Hallo mitenander :) I bi karin und jetzt au i euem coole album klopp debii. CCR: 1 idee, 7 songs. Eigentli magi creedence clearwater revival ganz gern. Wenn au nöd weg dem album. Chli zu glichförmig alles, aber de vibe isch gmüetlich.

Solid old-school country rock not really much more to add. CCR is CCR. 7/10

If there’s anything I’ve learnt from listening to this record, it’s that I must never stop chooglin’.

- Great representation of folksy blues - Graveyard Train really knows how to meander around the bayou, whopping 8 minute song! - Great guitar improv and solos that get time to breathe on many of the tracks - Hard to quantify as best of CCR, as they have so many other great beats"

This band sounds so different from everything else in 1969. They somehow managed to create a timeless sound while also sounding very different from everything else in this era. I have always been a sucker for CCR. They are just undeniably fun. This album didn’t have many of their hits that drive their work forward. Certainly “Born on the Bayou” and “proud Mary”, which are stellar. But the others don’t shine as much.

I can dig this. Swamp rock

Good album - worth the listen for the version of Proud Mary where the singer pronounces Turning and Burning as Toynin’ and boynin’.

Classic band, first time hearing this album. Slick tones and cool bluesy licks. About 3 tracks short of a 4 star rating though.

I enjoyed this. But I wanted to enjoy it more. The overall sound of the album is great, I just feel some of the songs get tedious very quickly, especially the longer ones. A key change here and there would have added so much, hell even a chord change would have added some variation to the solo sections on some songs. I can’t imagine how boring it would be to playing rhythm guitar on these tracks.

Would have expected more from a CCR record...

I’ve never really listened to CCR - they fall in that gap between what my parents listened to and what I listened to. This was … pretty good!

This feels harsh but apart from the hits just didn’t do it for me

A few good songs on this album, but I've heard those many times already. Overall, not bad but I'm probably not going to go out of my way to listen to this again because I have heard it so many times.

I liked some stuff from the album and could see myself listening to it more but it does sound dated.

This sounds like the album where the terms “middle of the road” and “Dad Rock “ were created

Had no idea 'Proud Mary' was originally a CCR track. That was a good one, the opener 'Born on the Bayou' was also very good. The highlight of the album though has to be 'Keep On Chooglin''. It's a foot tapping song that rocks away nicely for all seven minutes. John Fogerty is a great vocalist, his style of singing fits perfectly with the style of swampy rock music being played. 'Graveyard Train' is just a slow bluesy jam session which I didn't like, it was overly long and out stayed it's welcome by the four minute halfway mark. A decent record overall and wouldn't mind another CCR album or two.

I dig CCR, and this album fell right into place for me. Not likely I'd seek this album out, but it's got an overall vibe that I find appealing.

Det här är inte min musik. Men många gillar den ju. Det får stå för dom. En trea för Good Golly Miss Molly och Proud Mary.

Ok gubbrock. Inte riktigt min kopp te. Han har en skön röst dock!

This is really good album very Blues based in spots. Definitely easy to listen to but their arnt as many stand out tracks that are on later CCR albums. Doesn’t mean it isn’t great but I’d say my favorite songs are Born on a Bayou Penthouse Pauper Proud Mary being the true stand out. It’s not my favorite single by them but is the stand out here 3.5/5

Not bad. Oldie, but goldie. But I liked other albums from CCR more

Prefer the more bluesy, country CCW. While there were some elements, This album was more traditional rock. It is not terrible, but could not see myself listening to it again. Probably a 3.5

Love CCR. This album not so much

Is this the first or second best CCR record? Because if not, there shouldn’t be more than two on this list!! All is as it should be with this album. Songs about the backcountry, about rambling, about being a rolling stone that grows no moss - even in the swamp.

Some great classics that are always fun, but also a few skips. Good overall.

Couldn’t decide originally if this inched to a 4 (bonus points for covering good golly miss molly) but maybe my dad rock days are behind me??

A couple of classics but this isn't really my thing.

Fine by me. These Californians sure do know how to make some swampy sounding tunes. This is hardcore boat music hahaha

Some absolutely classic material ("Born On The Bayou," "Proud Mary,") mixed in with some more nascent stabs — by way of example, nothing about the writing or execution of "Graveyard Train" justifies its eight-and-a-half-minute runtime.

This one grew on me and now I’m a bit conflicted as to how to score it. Initially, I decided three stars would be plenty. Born on the Bayou and Proud Mary we’re good enough to pull the album up. I’ve listened to it two more times now. Graveyard Train seemed incredibly long when I needed it to motivate me in my last couple of miles on a long, slow slog back home. Today, however, it was actually much more enjoyable as background music while I worked. The dilemma is this, though the “secondary” songs on the album seem to get much better today, I still can’t bump it up to a four star album. It doesn’t match with some of those. Alas, It must settle at a three.

I went into this expecting bland blues rock. That's mostly what I got, but it wasn't too bad. Really love the 2s solo in Proud Mary!

Swamp - Rock är en passande beskrivning. Helt bra

Couple of goodies, but there are better CCR albums.

I enjoyed it, not an album I knew a great deal of the songs from.

I enjoyed.

born on the bayou- 4 bootleg-3 graveyard train- 5 good golly miss molly- 5 penthouse pauper- 4 proud mary- 3 keep on chooglin- that sounds racist. 4 very boring but they threw me a bone by only making it 7 songs

Fav: Proud Mary Least Fav: Graveyard Train Thought I was going to hate this but was surprised by a few of the songs including the origins version of Proud Mary. Some of the bluesiness didn’t really vibe with me but it wasn’t something I hated. Will need to revisit in the future.

Enjoyable, didn't stand out to me. The music sort of faded into the background and I didn't even notice when the album ended and spotify started randomly playing other artists. Which tells me it was fine, but not stand out.

Solid album, with "Born On The Bayou" being a banger.

Didn't like as much as the other car album, but still good

Somewhat surprising that there are only 7 tracks on the one. It’s good, some obvious hits on here, the other songs weren’t bad but didn’t jump out at me.

The song Proud Mary was so big back in the day that this alone gets your album on the 1001 list. Bayou Country is good, CCR has better, we’ll be listening to them again before we’re done. (2.9*s)

Solid album, short and sweet. Couple big tracks that are always good. "Born on the Bayou" is a classic but also misleading, these dudes are from San Fran. Compared to most other takes this is a decent version of "Good Golly Miss Molly" but I just don't like this song ever (or the word "Chooglin").

Always loved CCRs sound but never owned any albums or really delved in. Great bluesy, folkie, rock with some grunginess. Always sounds authentic. This album has my favorite song "Born on the Bayou" and one other good one "Proud Mary". A few other decent ones and a couple too long. Not a bad showing for a bunch from the swamp...2.9.

I've been exposed to the CCR hits for years and they always deliver. Bayou Country is a nice little 30 minute album with a couple hits and couple southern jams I'd never heard before. Easily consumable and either album side works for something quick to put on to mix it up. Nothing amazing but gets the job done. 2.72 stars

Fine, but nothing elevated this beyond background music for me

I really like CCR. This is not their top work, but still rather good. Even though this is just a 3/5 album, it still made me put on some more CCR after listening to it... CCR are great, even though their tenure was very short, this is my favorite fact: "CCR had nine top-10 singles and eight gold albums between 1968 and 1972" That's crazy high production pace and quality!

Another CCR album (3 so far!) This one was again a solid showing- I like the theme but it got a little one note for me. Some hits here, some good b sides.

CCR has better songs imo.. but this album had their signature sound and wasnt bad overall. 3/5

Good album, short though

I guess this is my least favorite CCR album.

As a fan of a few of CCR's songs, I did enjoy this album, but apart from Proud Mary it all faded into an enjoyable background listen while I worked and nothing blew me away.

i feel like I would appreciate this a lot more if I smoked cigarettes. you need to be driving a car with wood trim interiors when you listen to this. or a 1972 pontiac (i wouldn't hold out much hope for the tape deck though). however proud mary almost gets this a 4/5 completely on its own. you can sit around chooglin as much as you want after that.

Rollllllin

Good album, but not as solid as the others on this list.

Dobar album svidja mi se ovaj stil rocka 7/10

Pretty cool vibe. Sounded good today in the car, with the sun shining. Proud Mary is the best track, by far. And Keep on Chooglin' is cooool. Love a bit of harmonica. On the whole, a stone groove.

I didn’t recognise this band by name, so was surprised to see how popular they are! 2 songs exceeding a billion streams! The sound was nice and rich across this album, and it had a hazy, relaxed feel to it. I recognised Proud Mary, that was the best tune. The outro song was slightly odd though haha. Decent sounding album but I have no idea what to take from it.

I don’t know what Chooglin’ means and at this point I’m too afraid to ask. If there’s one thing I gained from this album it’s that I must keep on chooglin’, so choogle I shall. I like Creedence Clearwater Revival. To me they sound like Led Zeppelin’s chilled out stoner cousin. Overall it’s good but nothing earth-shattering.

Perfectly pleasant punctuated by powerhouse pop smashes

Creedence is maybe the best patio band. But I don't think the is the best representation of their work and it drags in the middle.

Don't think we need two CCR albums on this list. Yeah its OK but how is it any more relevant than Cosmo's Factory? Despite that it's still good.

Very up and down. The best songs are great. The filler songs, not so much. They might need some more chooglin.

Popular I know and the hits are good, but not a huge fan of the voice.

Some classic songs. Yet neither google nor AI could clarify the definition of the apparent verb “choogle”

there’s something present in the vocals on this album - which seems to be present in many records of this style - that somewhat irritates and bores me. the style of singing is so unoriginal that it marrs many of the songs on this record. despite this, there were some moments that i really enjoyed - namely when john forgery was not present. the talent of the guitar solos, for one, astounded me, demonstrated well in “good golly miss molly” and “penthouse pauper”. the band behind the voice are evidently skilful, yet the vocals leave an indelible mark on this album, personally. and quite frankly, tina turner does “proud mary” much better

It's a sativa kinda album.

Solid Blues-Rock/Americana. I enjoyed this one and will be adding it to my library. The second side is stronger than the first. Highlights: Good Golly Miss Molly, Penthouse Pauper, Proud Mary,

Music that will make you want to wrastle an alligator.

Some classic music here, pretty good. Low 3.

Having only heard Fortunate Son prior to this, I was blown away by just how modern these guys sound. There are times where they sound like Soundgarden and other bands of that ilk. Good fun

Not shabby southernish rock

proud mary is a 10/10 but other then that not ccr's best

fine for what it is i guess

I just really like CCR - both Fogerty’s voice and the atmosphere that the music brings. There are some fillers on here, but most of the songs are great

pretty boring imo, proud mary is great tho

A few well known classics like Proud Mary, and many less known sons, some of them also good. 7/10

Swamp rock. Country rock.

I kind of like Born on the Bayou, Good Golly Miss Molly, Proud Mary

I wanted to like this more

It's a good vibe and I enjoyed it but nothing spectacular

Music to drive across the USA by. Music to write Tarantino or Coen brothers movie scripts by. Kind of too short for either, really.

Good musicians, nice tunes

I actually really like CCR's sound overall, but this one is basically "Proud Mary" plus 6 mid-to-decent songs. This was CCR's second album as CCR (after ~10 relatively unsuccessful years under other names), and first album after they got popular when their cover of "Susie Q" got big. This is also the first of three albums they released in 1969, with Green River coming only 7 months later. They're definitely starting to find their sound in this, but it's not nearly as good as Green River. It starts with "Born On The Bayou" which does establish their rootsy sound and is probably the second best song on the album. "Bootleg" follows and it's solid, but then there's the 8-minute "Graveyard Train" which I think is kind of mediocre and somewhat derails the flow of the album. The back half starts with a cover of "Good Golly Miss Molly" which is fun enough, then a decent song, "Proud Mary" (an absolute top-tier classic), and then another nearly 8-minute jam song. This is a bit hard to rate because I do like their sound, it has one legendary rock song, but nearly 16 minutes of the 34 minute album is in two long jam songs, and one of the 7 songs is a decent but somewhat forgettable cover. I probably won't listen to this full album again, but it does have to be on here with how good "Proud Mary" is. Favorite song: Proud Mary Other: Born On The Bayou, Bootleg, Good Golly Miss Molly 7/12/24

I'm a big fan of this band and although I really like this album it's not my favourite CCR album. This one is most known for Proud Mary but Born On The Bayou & Bootleg are also well known, but this is pure southern rock straight out of California.

I liked this. I don't think CCR are the best blues rock of that era, but their hits are catchy.

Bluesy rock. It's pretty good in small doses

It's a classic.

Two hits and the rest is just noodling on guitars

Another album by these guys… didn’t we just have one…. Enjoyable but doubt I’ll revisit…

While I liked the Bluesy style of the first few tracks, the electric guitar-led back half is much stronger. Listened to: walking through prospect park. Favorite tracks: Good Golly Miss Molly, Penthouse Pauper

"Proud Mary" is of course a classic, and is the best song on this album, the rest are good, not something I would keep going back to...

I really enjoy the strong blues element in this band, but I have to admit that southern rock isn’t usually my go-to. It definitely wasn’t a bad album, though. As a South Florida guy, if I ever find myself down in the Everglades on an airboat wrestling alligators, this will definitely be my go-to background music.

Nice bluesy southern rock album.

eeee rock a bit dad music taste vibes but i like it

Cool cool

Born On the The Bayou is probably my favorite song by Creedence so even though this is the 3rd album we've herd by these guys, I was happy to see this song. Can't say I'm the biggest fan so I was surprised to see Proud Mary was written by CCR/Fogerty. I always thought this song was written for/by Tina and Ike Turner. Do yourself a favor and check our some of her love performances pf this song. Great Stuff. And Dave Grohl does a solid cover of Born on the Bayou. Other notables for me include Bootleg, Penthouse Pauper and Keep on Chooglin. Even Good Golly Miss Molly reminded me a of great song by Them Dirty Roses. All in all, I thought this was a pretty solid album, even with a couple long jam tunes on a 35 minute album. Can't complain about too much here. Got to hear my favorite song by these guys, learned something new, Proud Mary not Tine Turner's song and I got to think of my "Molly" all day. 3.5

3 Jesus Christ, how many CCR albums do we need on this list? I don’t mind the group, but is this album really doing anything the others haven’t already? It’s the exact brand of swampy, blues rock we’ve heard twice before now that, once again, consists of a hit that I enjoy (Born on the Bayou), a hit that I find overrated (Proud Mary), an overly long jam track, and a bunch of other stuff that’s alright, but mostly forgettable. Also, how many covers of Good Golly Miss Molly do we really need? I’ll give CCR this - they’re probably among the most consistent bands out there. Every single one of their albums that I’ve heard seems to net out to the same level of quality, to the point that I really couldn’t point to any one that I like or dislike more than any other. Unfortunately, that level of quality is just “decent” for me, and while I do genuinely enjoy John Fogerty’s voice, I’d be lying if I said I thought it resulted in any kind of all-time great music. Well, maybe Fortunate Son - where the hell is that album at? On second thought, no, I think I’ve had my fill for the time being. No, John, I will not keep on chooglin’. I have no idea what you’re referring to, but I really don’t want to know, man. I know this list doesn’t include Greatest Hits albums, and I totally understand why that is, but for me, CCR feels like the kind of band whose Greatest Hits is all you really need.

I got Cosmo's Factory a couple days before this one, and that album was better in my opinion. Still a solid album, it just fell flat in more places.

Not my favorite CCR album, but still a very decent album

It’s fine, some tracks are good but I feel like some go on for way longer than necessary
