Reviews (page 8 of 14)

Enjoyable listen, though I did not fully catch the vibe. It felt a little repetitive at times.

The voices and guitar and drum beats just really please me! Doesn't contain any of my favourites of CCR but still very enjoyable.

climatic piece, very enjoyable and easy to listen to, short and fun and of course what's the most important, it's still a peak music. Solid 4,5

Another one from the bayou boys CCR. It's got "Proud Mary," one of their biggest hits, but my favorite track on here was easily "Graveyard Train." The standard rock fare from them is good, but a departure into blues is way better. The strength of that track alone bumps this up to four stars. I like this band, but don't really need multiple albums from them to get the idea. Still, this was of course enjoyable and I'll be listening to that graveyard train for days, probably years to come. Favorite tracks: Graveyard Train, Proud Mary, Born on the Bayou. Album art: Blurry bayou boys. 4/5

Enjoyed it as work BGM!

Excellent album. I love the song bootleg.

4.4 - great album full of classic licks. What an amazing band.

I knew CCR was good but I didn't know it was like this!

Sturdy swampy rock. Not much fat on this.

So good. So 60s.

Simple music done extremely well, with a voice for the ages. I'm digging it.

Nobody catches this bluesy, earthy vibe as well as CCR, their sound is so singular and so good. They're not the first rock band that comes to mind when you think of this era, but boy are they one of the best. "Proud Mary" never gets old, it's such a perfect song. Fave Songs: Proud Mary, Penthouse Pauper, Born on the Bayou, Keep On Chooglin'

Damn I forgot how good this album is. You’d never think they’d never been to the bayou

A super fun listen

Liked this more than I expected. I've always been a big CCR fan, but the song list didn't really jump out at me at first. It was all good though, even the "Good Golly Miss Molly" cover which I thought would be cringey. Lots of energy and talent on display here but it didn't cross that threshold into 5 star territory for me.

Bayou Country is a small, seven track album, that leaves you wanting more. Songs like "Born on the Bayou" and "Proud Mary" are some of the best exemples of the american southern rock genre and John Fogerty's voice is something else, especially in the opening track.

good ol' US rock n roll, what's not to like?

Interesting sound, definitely my favourite country album I've listened to.

Great!

I enjoyed title track is a very good primer for the album as a whole

A good testament to CCR!!

A classic. What a great vocal sound and good band mix.

Its very much a CCR album with some of its hits mixed in wuth longer jams. It does seem that John Fogerty's vocals elevates the band as the vocalled tracks far out perform the more freeform instrumental secrtions

Classic swamp rock. Grab a drink, grab a smoke, sit back, and enjoy.

It’s pretty good can be a bit boring at times

Couple great classics on this one.

Even though I've heard these songs a million times, they still bring a smile to my face because of their authenticity and unbridled passion for the music they are making. I know John Fogerty was a dick and the rest of the band hated him, but what can you say when a guy can play guitar, sing, write songs, play harmonica, and basically create a whole mythology around a time and place that never really existed.

People have been telling me to get into this band for years and it hasn’t happened yet, but I dig this a lot.

Who doesn't love some CCR? So American, though I assumed they were southern and reading now I see they are actually from San Francisco. Bluesy guitar, gritty vocals, catchy tunes, quotable lyrics, an irresistible groove. It is no surprise their songs became standards. This is their debut album and it comes out of the gate with "Born on the Bayou" establishing the iconic sound and mood right away. Also featuring Good Golly Miss Molly and Proud Mary, this album is indeed epic. And they published two more albums in 1969! Guess they were just bubbling over with ideas.

Not my favourite CCR album bit a good CCR album is a great album for .out other bands. Born on the Bayou, Bootleg, Proud Mary, Chooglin; all classic CCR. Not quote 5 but 4.5 easily

Enjoyed it, groovy

Not my favourite CCR album bit a good CCR album is a great album for .out other bands. Born on the Bayou, Bootleg, Proud Mary, Chooglin; all classic CCR. Not quote 5 but 4.5 easily

I skipped the mega hits we've all heard a thousand times. Penthouse Pauper was cool, as was Keep On Chooglin'.. Jeez, Graveyard Train was a snooze-fest! I saw Fogerty live once. He was as great as you'd expect. Still, they can't all be hits.

I've probably listened to this several times before when I was growing up, because my dad used to play a lot of Creedence. I don't have much to say about this except that it's phenomenally good. I will give a strong 4, there is something missing for it to be a 5 star rating, but im not quite sure what.

A robust album. Nice guitar solos and rythms. 2-3 good songs, the rest is okay. (7/10) FT: Proud Mary, Born On The Bayou

Really liked this album, not sure if I'll come back to it later but good songs

Very bluesy

At just under 34 minutes, my only complaint is that it's too short.

First time listening to a complete CCR album. Love the sound, and, of course, the original version of Proud Mary.

Nice album. A little too varied on tone.

Classic CCR, had heard some songs before. Would listen again for sure.

What is now considered classic Southern Rock, Born on the Bayou is a solid album from CCR with a fantastic opener and of course the signature Proud Mary. Keep on Chooglin sounds like a blues house band having a blast at the end of the night.

I dunno if id listen everyday but it sounded nice

Solid southern rock. You can feel the summer heat in their music.

Certainly not their best album, but pretty great. Established that bayou folk rock sound. Without getting into "southern rock". Pretty great effort.

CLASSIC!

Great blues. House-filling presence even on a small system. Graveyard Train and Chooglin are twice as long as they should be, Proud Mary is perfect, and the rest are very good. But you can put this on over and over. That's worth a lot!

The Mrs. is a big Fogerty fan, so I am pretty familiar with CCR. Although I think “Keep On Chooglin’ “ and “Graveyard Train” go on a bit long. I imagine stretching them out live must have been fanTASTic to witness. Definitive statement from the band.

Pretty darn good, could've been better. Maybe I wanted it to be longer? Imagine if they released all three 1969 albums together? CCR brought a cool, unique sound and Fogerty(s) could really play. Graveyard Train and Keep on Chooglin' show their interpretation of blues and their wide array of skills. Love the harmonica on both. I wish they had played Proud Mary in the same frenetic tempo as Good Golly Miss Molly. Still good.

Although this is CCR's second album, it still feels tentative, in both a positive and cavillous reading. The songs suggest a desire to stretch (witness the forays into swamp rock), but one gets a sense of caution, of an unwillingness to tread too far or to flat-out holler. Of course, CCR would achieve that with later songs and albums. However, this album feels slightly hesitant: for instance, the two jams, though fine, aren't bombastic enough to properly engross. This album is great fun, and shows CCR heading in the right direction, but it's not the most essential of their work. Compare it to the Rolling Stones' Aftermath: good stuff, but you should really stick around for what happens next.

Solid album, full of old slimy swamp rock goodness

I like CCR and this is pretty good but definitely not their strongest effort. It certainly defines their sound but it's not as even and polished as other albums.

Sounds like home. Short and solid album with heavy hitters in Born on the Bayou and Proud Mary and solid jams throughout.

I love the sound of CCR, never heard this one before but I enjoyed it and Proud Mary is a song for the ages

I love hearing albums that helped form me in my youth, but that I don't have in my collection.

Love me some CCR, iconic sound and another great record

September 8, 2021 I usually find John Fogerty's voice grating but it seems to be growing on me. I liked a couple of these ("Born on the Bayou" and "Proud Mary" of course) and found the rest of the album pretty good, except the last track which was just kinda weird.

Is this the album that defined Swamp Rock? Truly great stuff. Classics like Born on the Bayou and Proud Mary and impossible to ignore. The whole album has a mesmerizing, hypnotic, nature to it, and I mean this as both a pro and a con, I think. Some of these songs really do drag on in length.

1. Born on the Bayou. Always loved this track. The groove is unrivaled. 2. Bootleg. Started out sounding a little like a CSNY track. 3. Graveyard Train. Sounds like it should have been on the Lebowski soundtrack. 8:35! Good lawd! 4. Good Golly Miss Molly. Good LP. A lot of just grinding jams.

Blues rock. Muy bueno!

Muy buen disco

A class act, no more words needed

Nothing wrong with this album.

Tolles Album!

Blues/Southern Rock is my jam.

Credo che i Creedence abbiano definitivamente influenzato i Nirvana: In Born on the Bayou sento vagamente Serve the servants dei Nirvana. L'apertura di Proud Mary, ancora, mi ricorda i Nirvana.

Enjoyed quite a bit. There's some hidden gems on this I hadn't heard, Penthouse Pauper is a favourite.

I loved this album! Such fantastic energy, great musicianship and an amazing rock vocal! Earthy, gritty, compelling.

Smooth

Why haven't I listened to CCR before?

OOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH Solid 4 so far

Born on the Bayou Bootleg Graveyard train

Short and sweet. A couple classics on here. I do like CCR, although the last song "Keep on Chooglin' " had a long harmonica solo in the right channel only, and I wonder about why they chose to use stereo sound in such a way.

Favourite track: 6-Proud Mary

Overall pretty good, I liked most of it but had a few songs that didn't quite hit the mark for me. Probably deserves 3.5 but I'm feeling generous

Pretty good, makes me tap my leg.

Killer album

Not the greatest album… But still legends

Classic. Reminds me of my dad

Isäni on kannattanut CCR:a 70-luvulta lähtien, joten syntyessäni minulle ei annettu paljoa valinnan varaa. Ensimmäisen CCR-kasettini muistaakseni sain jo kaksivuotiaana eli isäni vain kylmäverisesti päätti, että sinä kuuntelet CCR:aa. En edes uskalla ajatella mitä olisi käynyt, jos olisin murrosiässä alkanut glooryhuntata esimerkiksi Michael Jacksonia tai Totoa. Todellinen fanius alkoi minulla viisi kuusi vuotta sitten.

I think to truly appreciate this album you have to go into it with the right expectations. It’s blues rock so every song is repetitive. It’s nothing groundbreaking and Graveyard Train seems excessive being based off of one riff and over 8.5 minutes long but parts like the harmonica solo in the middle were certainly enjoyable. I liked the songs with more energy like Good Golly Miss Molly and Proud Mary is a classic. Keep on Chooglin’ is another long one although I preferred it to Graveyard Train. Again, the harmonica solo was a highlight. Strong 7/10

pues ta bien

Born on The Bayou

a great album! no one else sounds like CCR

Eihän tälle voi antaa vähempää ku neljä tähteä. Proud Mary lienee jäänyt kaikkien mieleen jostain vanhasta purkkamainoksesta.

Klassikkokamaa!

Enjoyed it

very good

Love a bit of Creedence. Fantastic swampy mood to the whole album.

Good classic rock in every sense. Every song's catchy and quality, and Proud Mary still holds up.

Much more bluesy than I perceived CCR to be.

I liked this one quite a bit. It's good, funky rock 'n' roll with a Southern flair. It's one of the albums on this list that I feel like I'm going to come back to, and those albums are few and far between.

Pretty straightforward CCR. Great shit, but no surprises.

Really enjoyed this album.

chooglin

Classic rock is classic for a reason

It's CCR. Find some nice weather, grab a cooler full of beer, sit back and relax.

Perfect music to brew beer to

American Beatles

Pretty good

Too many iconic hits to give less than a 4, although there is a little slack in the middle of this short album

I thought this was the best album ever until Ethan told me it wasn't. I listened to it again with something to prove and it just made me angry and sad at my naivety. Still banging roadtrip album. The Stones x Led Zeppelin and I loved it. You ruin my magic Faith.

Very enjoyable. Makes me want to go drive across America, crack open a beer at a dive bar, or watch Supernatural.

Good album. Good tunes, nothing legendary but nothing bad

Not normally in to the blues but I enjoyed this. Didn’t know they wrote Proud Mary.

Lekkere muzikale intermezzo's, bijv in Graveyeard Train.

i feel like each song sounds pretty similar but this is like ultimate classic rock

Always love me some CCR

Groovy, blues, swamprock, nemt lyt, fængende, råt

1969. Key Songs: Proud Mary, Penthouse Pauper

Classic Creedance

Getting their swamp rock sound together on this album, but still not doing anything super interesting with it. Does have the virtue of having their first really good single, “Proud Mary”, and “Born on the Bayou” is a good song. The two side-enders go on too long and they’re not all that interesting. 3.5 stars, rounding down. And I hope this album was not included at the expense of “Willy and the Poor Boys”.

Country music isnt really my jam

Not their best record, but solid. 3.5/5.

I like CCR but there's a lot of blues-slop here and I know things get a lot better after this record.

I was hoping to like this more. But aside from the two hits, the songs felt a little slight. John's a great singer, though.

I prefer CCR's Cosmo's Factory, but Bayou Country is solid as well. A good representation of their southern/bayou flavored sound that CCR really embraced.

It's definitely not bad, but I prefer my Bayou music to be made by some catfish-eating, Creole-speaking, fiddle-playing, Cajun dudes

Chooglin a little too close to the sun here

kinda enjoyable background music

Great cover! It’s so inviting. Maybe it’s the drawn out colours but it seems to draw me in - it looks more like an indie album rather than so rock but that’s what makes it extra cool It looks like auch a short album but it really isn’t. From the 1st track the album feels like my family home - I get the immediate feeling that my mum and I are cooking and my dad is making salad and laying the table. I like that some of the tracks are unusually long. They are very detailed and feel complex. They change within the song so it feels like you have 2 in 1. Walking out the tube station to good golly miss molly is A VIBE. Favourite track: graveyard train - I like the Mundharmonika bit

Very good just not my preferred type of music.

It's 69' and i'm driving down a motorway, the car hood open, on an exceptionally hot day. Just as I write this passage Graveyard Train comes on. 'On the highway, thirty people lost their lives'. The thick breeze provides no relief to the blaring sun. It is suffocatingly marvelous. My right hand holds a joint and i'll find myself wherever the road takes me. Well would you look at that, 'Good Golly Miss Molly'! That would be my name. Suprised I haven't heard this tune before. That riff has got a surf rock groove to it. The album sounds familiar. Probably all the 70s rock I've listened to. A yes, 'Proud Mary'. Damn, I thought this song was called 'Rolling on a River'. Update - i've found myself on a small beach with a bar resembling a hut with babes and surfer dudes walking about the place having a time. The vibes are immaculate.

Here’s a band that I’m familiar with, for sure. When I briefly took guitar lessons in high school, the tutor I was working with had actually given me “Bad Moon Rising” as one of the pieces to work with first. So I’m definitely familiar with the blues rock sound of CCR. And my classic rock radio listening certainly meant I was familiar with the opening track here, “Born on the Bayou”. Likewise, while I’m not someone who lives in the titular *Bayou Country*, it’s hard to be even a little media-aware and not be familiar with the general shape of the culture. And we’re definitely getting a crash course, anyways, with the second track celebrating bootlegging along with a bit of sleeping around and… ok, on the surface that’s some Tom Sawyer hijinks in the third verse but I’m not sure I needed to think too hard about that suggestion there. OK, let’s not dwell there. We can move on to… aw hell, it’s a broken heart song featuring a suicide. All right then. The B-side of the album is a bit more upbeat. It opens with a nice 12-bar blues in the form of a “Good Golly Miss Molly” cover that leans more fully into the blues than Little Richard’s original, but still manages to be a higher-beat song than most of the rest of this album. We then move on to “Penthouse Pauper”, which is… weird. It’s a song about how the singer would always be the best of anything that he could be… then reveals that he’s got nothing to his name. It doesn’t really feel like it’s one of the stronger songs on the album, particularly when it’s bookended by the Little Richard cover and “Proud Mary”. Gimme that Mississippi riverboat action, yeah. And then we wrap with what became the usual CCR concert-closer and “Keep On Chooglin’. Not that we get much more about how to do that beyond that it’s what you do when “you got to ball and have a good time”. So it’s like the opposite of Jerry Garcia’s ‘Truckin’’ I guess. Anyways. Got some really good tracks here, but also some kind of weak tunes that seem more focused on pushing the theme of the opening tune about being from Bayou Country and everything else being explorations of that regional life. And yet, not a lick of French. So they’re bayou folk without a lick of Cajun or Creole to them? I think I’m hitting this with a 6.5/10. It’s inoffensive, and has some songs that I do enjoy, but as an album I’m not sure it’s really getting the job done.

Pretty decent swamp rock

great sound CCR seam to have made a career out of about 3 tunes on repeat

Perfectly fine. Nothing about this album feels amazing to me.

Decent swamp rock, tho some songs didn't really stick with me. Highlights-Born on the Bayou, Bootleg, Graveyard Train, and Proud Mary.

more fun than i thought it would be

CCR is underrated in my opinion. A unique sound, very classic bluesy. Good album

Although this is not Creedence at their best, it’s still a solid listen. A song like “Proud Mary” has taken on a life of its own and it’s fun to see where it all began

I'm pretty sure at one point on the first song he said he's "chooglin' on down to New Orleans" and then it ends with a song called 'Keep On Chooglin'. That kinda sums this up. Great chooglin', I love the choogle as much as the next choogler, but is chooglin' alone enough to make an album great? I don't think so unfortunately. This was enjoyable enough to work to though apart from Proud Mary which I just don't like as a song in general sorry. So y'know three stars I think. Not really relevant but I was reading the wikipedia and this band used to be called 'The Golliwogs' because the label insisted on it even though they didn't want to??? uwotm8?????? The 1960s truly was one of the decades of all time.

The tracks that Spotify chose me after the album were better!

Enjoyed this as far as it goes. Which isn't very far. 3*

Just fine. Didn’t think it was special.

I liked it, but I didn’t love it. Better than fine, but not amazing. 3.5⭐️

well crafted, not completely sure it's my kind of jam but surely coherent

For a band from Northern California, CCR definitely infused a good amount of swamp feeling in this album with “Born on the Bayou.” If the only thing that came out of this was “Proud Mary” for Tina Turner to cover, that would have been enough to justify the record’s existence. Happily, there is more than that to like.

Pleasant enough but coming on the back of a few American jamming style albums it wasn’t the best time to appreciate its strengths. The musicianship is good, it’s all very pleasant. Overall a bit like ordering a chocolate brownie at the end of a nice pub meal. You probably didn’t strictly need it, it’s not going to blow your socks off, but you enjoy it nonetheless.

I do love Creedence but in my mind this is a good album but not a great one. They are notable for thier unique sound. A gritty southern American blues comes to mind.. Its all there in that regard. Where it slightly misses the mark for me is the combination of diversity and the qty of quality songs. Some songs are good in parts but the song "Graveyard Train" was an example of taking the riffing to excess which makes the songs blend into 1. They dont have a unique soul as often as I came to expect from Creedence but ironically its whats gives them their appeal just not well adjusted overall for the album. Maybe its that blues style shadowing you get with this type of music where you sing a word(s) and then get a guitar answering jingle. Probably they could do with more vocal variation on many sections of the lesser songs as makes one song to the next similar. Excellent harmonica at times as well for worthy mention. Strong 3 / weak 4 would be my conclusion. Difficult album to review as I love them and their sound and they are legends to me but trying to be critical. Its all there just not landed as a whole album in my view.

My biggest takeaway from Bayou Country is that is demonstrates how great John Fogerty's voice was. Even when these songs are less than inspired, the vocals make it at least enjoyable. The album starts strong with "Born on the Bayou" but quickly falls off. "Bootleg" never really gets started and "Graveyard Train" is a blues tune that's stuck in the same mode for far too long. The blues influence on this is stronger than on their later albums, and that's not always a good thing. Thankfully the second half is much stronger; the songs feel livelier, even if they still feel very linear. It's striking how much "Proud Mary" stands out from the back - it's basically a pop song next to the others, and it foreshadows how their songwriting would improve. Not a bad album but certainly less interesting than their later work.

Decent CCR album, not their best, has some of their hits on it but not that great.

Love the sound of their music, a fun listen.

I don't vibe with their music 100 %, but I have to respect that the totally nailed that swampy bluesy vibe.

Decent

Classic blues rock. Heard many songs before.

Not the best CCR album. 2.9/5

Pretty ok. Short.

Not my genre but I quite liked it

I got another CCR album (Cosmo's Factory) earlier that week which was much better. Proud Mary is great of course.

Not bad. Very very American but it has catchy hooks and strong vocals

It’s just so classic American rock. How could anyone not like this??

A short, enjoyable album though I didn't like it as much as the last CCR on this list. Favourites: Keep On Chooglin'

Famously, Creedence released three albums in a single year. This is the first of them and you can't help but think that they were holding back the best for later, because this album doesn't scream "overflowing with exciting new ideas". For a start it has seven songs spread over 30 minutes. And since 15 of those 30 minuted are taken up with what are essentially 2 jams, it's not promising. And a cover version of Good Golly Miss Molly doesn't make it seem like you've got so many songs you don't know where to begin. A couple of the other songs seem a bit like filler. Penthouse Pauper is competent blues, but not much more than that. Okay it's got Proud Mary and Born on the Bayou, but after that it gets a bit thin. It's an enjoyable listen and never less than that, but there are certainly other CCR albums you'd reach for first.

Most of my hesitation with CCR is that their albums have always played like mixtapes to me instead of larger projects. I mostly feel that way here. Definite fan of CCR and their unique sound they developed, this one is a high 3.

Very solid, though honestly sort of unremarkable in many places? I enjoyed it!

Why what we have here is a I say, a big ol' gumbo pot, why i do delcare, of uhh i say stolen bayou valour. Yes indeed, as sure as the Louisiana mists pour into my mint julep, the singer is of Irish descent and from California and doing a vaguely racist impression. I say I say. I hate the appropriation here. It's borderline musical blackface. At the very least, it's claiming some sort of Acadian lineage, which might not be as offensive to most, but still sucks. The music itself is unfortunately good to great, despite the queen mother of riverboat songs. Hey, I liked this, so just imagine if I was a guy with aggression problems in a helicopter over a country who had committed the heinous crime of making political decisions for themselves?? I would probably like it even more. Alas, I am none of those things and therefore I shrug thusly and give this a higher score than I wanted to. And uhh hey guys??? The photographer really fucked up your album cover. I can't see shit, and I'm certain a few fine upstanding youngsters as yourself would want your fans to see your smiles. It's a real shame. Maybe an idea for the expanded edition. 3 GENRE: Rich guys who "don't want to do anything touristy" while they're in New Orleans.

listened to this while meal prepping for the week. was a little repetitive, but became sort of meditative in that way! lots of classics and i love the sound of the guitar and the singer’s voice. overall not one i would put on regularly, but good for road tripping and impressing dads.

Yeah i'll choogle to that.

7/10 won't revisit but was fun

This started well but lost its way, becoming a bit too derivative what with its near instrumentals and covers. But it's fine. Not the heights they would reach.

That's the last of the CCR albums on the list. R.I.P. "Willy And The Poor Boys". Favorite track: Proud Mary 3.5/5

A decent swamp rock album with a nice bluesy tone. The element that shines the most are the vocals. John Fogerty's voice screams "classic rock voice" thanks to how raspy and full of attitude it is. It also reminds a lot to Chris Cornell and Robert Plant, just to make clear how characteristic it is. The rest? It is fine. The instruments sound very good and play some decent rock mixed with blues tunes. Nothing that truly caught my attention though. I do also have to add. If it wasn't for the two super long tracks, "Graveyard Train" and "Keep On Chooglin'", I think I would rate the album higher. Unfortunately, they are very long and monotonous, which ended up impacting my overall opinion. Apart from that, I think it is a decent album with its moments of fun.

Man, nobody sounds like John Fogerty. Makes everything seem awesome.

Southern twangy vibes and songs that evoke a lot of nostalgia, with great beats, harmonica, and electric riffs--when I think "Americana," CCR is what my mind conjures up.

Solid album. Never listened to whole CCR album, and it was great.

s'fukken Creedence man. What else do you want? This'un's not as deep as the other. S'go wit a flat 3

Helt okej skiva, klassisk men ingen superfavorit för mig.

It's fine

Somehow CCR released three albums in 1969 and they were all good. This was my review for Green River and, by gum, it still works. I did enjoy that one a little bit more than this one but no major complaints.

RATING: 3/5 The use of the word chooglin is baffling what does it mean??! This is very much aligator wresting music especially Born On The Bayou. Also insane to have a 30 min album and then 2 songs are half of that?? FAV SONG: Proud Mary (mostly cause of glee ofc) and Good Golly Miss Molly, the guitar just hits. DURATION: 33m 53s, 7 songs DATE: 19/05/26

só conseguia pensar que proud mary toca em glee. not really my vibe but i think it's pretty solid.

The big songs are very big and great, the rest ist unfortunately pretty mediocre.

It's fine. I typically like CCR, but most of this album felt like filler. I think they have better work out there, but then again this is the only full album I've listened to of theirs. Maybe they just have really good singles and all of their full length albums are kinda meh, idk I'll have to listen to them to find out.

some great tracks. some meh tracks. i like CCR but it averages out in the middle

2nd week in a row with a CCR album. It's fine. Not particularly great. Just fine.

Classic CCR

not my favorite CCR album but does have a few of my favorite songs of theirs on it. I do consider them to be southern rock cosplay bc they're from CA

meh i like swamp rock but this was sort of iffy

not bad, like the sound

Not bad . I dunno what else to say really. Man sings like foghorn leghorn

More Swingin and Sassy than other stuff Ive heard from Creedence. Enjoyed it mostly. Did get bit repetetive in few parts, even though its only 7 songs long

old man music

Good album. Done really good songs, but also done just OK songs. Vocals as anyways are great. Some really good guitar rhiffs.

Proud Mary is great. It's a strong contender for the song that will be used as THE example of Southern rock in a music history class in a hundred years, which is funny, because they're Californians. Outside of Proud Mary, though.... It's mostly fine. It leans into the blues in Graveyard Train, but it doesn't do enough with it. The harmonica is interesting, but not eight minutes of interesting. In most of the songs, the vamping is kind of boring. This might be due to age and influence, but I can only judge from my own experience, and this draaaaaaaags at times. Still, I care enough to dig into this more than most albums on this list, and it's never bad. At most, it's overlong. But I do want to give special mention to the final song of the album. Keep On Chooglin is a dumb, silly song about a made up word, and I want any Boomer who has made fun of "kids these days" for 6-7 and skibidi to be perpetually reminded of the same flavor of dumb that they loved as kids. I think we as a culture need to do a better job of reminding adults about the dumb stuff they liked, because I've seen and experienced decades of every silly trend being a harbinger of doom for The Youths. Grunge, frosted tips, and neon were going to bring the downfall of civilization, and "fly," "phat," "ratched," and "on fleek" were destroying the English language. Saying "chooglin" while lighting a cigarette is not any better. Children are weird, and they're going to do stuff that doesn't age well. I didn't, though. My taste is evergreen, and you will never find a picture of me planking or wearing a surfer necklace in the snow. I have also never once described a non-food item as "sweet."

Minus the proud Mary this is a classic sound!

I loved this but I can't see myself listening to it on the regular. 3/5

Excellent band - I was surprised at how dark and swampy this sounded.

pas trop fan mais écoutable

Not bad

Some great tunes. Love the jams on the last song but real short album on the whole.

not my kind of music, enjoyed some songs, some songs were drawn out.

While the singles here are real showstoppers, an album under 40 minutes can't afford two 7+ minute clunkers. Keep on chooglin.

The band’s sound is there (boy, is it) but the songs aren’t yet, with the obvious exceptions of “Born on the Bayou” and “Proud Mary,” two of the greatest rock songs ever recorded. God did this band sound incredible, though. Best track: “Proud Mary”

I like it, very bluesy. Then again I experience there's been a little too much CCR in this challenge this far.

6.1 Best songs Proud mary Down on the corner Born on the bayou

Cool, not my cup of tea but I can appreciate it

Tina Turner didn’t write Proud Mary? This thing just taught me that Charles Bradley didn’t write Changes. This is too much for me

good golly miss molly banger

It was an interesting listen… more interesting than I expected. My main interest was in hearing the original version of Proud Mary, which was very understated given the subsequent versions. I probably wouldn’t listen to it again but it did not offend me or bore me.

There at least was a bit of rawness on the delivery here, and so some of the emotiveness of blues came through here that hasn’t on similar albums until this point. Some good vocal delivery and sounded a bit like an alt-American led zep. Some familiarity with some of the songs probably helped with this but it doesn’t necessarily leave me wanting more.

Short but packs a punch with some great tracks, I've always loved CCR but Cosmo's Factory still probably beats this one out Favorite track: Born on the Bayou, special shoutout to 'Keep on Chooglin' as one of my favorite song titles

This wasn’t quite as fun as Cosmo’s Factory. Probably CCR fatigue. Who hasn’t heard Proud Mary hundreds of times. I do appreciate them for being a palette cleanser. A reasonable choice every time. Everyone likes them, but no one claims them as favourites.

I see the appeal but it's lowkey kinda annoying

A classic. Not my thing, but classic.

The home of Proud Mary

I didn't realise that Credence Clearwater Revival originally did "Proud Mary". Which is a strange type of cycle. White guys writing and performing music of black origin that is then covered by black artists to make a more well known version of that song. This is then up against the Little Richard cover "Good golly, Miss Molly." All I can say is that this is bluegrass blues album and feels like it could easily be the soundtrack to the southern states of the USA. I enjoyed it, but I dont know if that that says something negative about me as a person. (3.000)

What I really love about this record is the feeling it gives, this swampy bayou sound is something that really itches my brain in way that most rock from this period does not really do. The shorter cuts on this record (Proud Mary and good golly miss molly for example) are the best parts about this record in tandem with the wonderful lead vocal that John Fogerty lays on every track keeps me coming back to this album. The longer tracks are just so weak to me to the point where I just wish we got more shorter 3 min tracks to replace them. Fav tracks: Proud mary, good golly miss molly, and penthouse pauper

i hate his voice sorry

That’s some good classic rock.

Album rutero. Swamp, southern, blues, root y country rock.

Biggest issue here is inconsistency; you’re not exactly starved for good songs on an album with “Born on the Bayou”, “Proud Mary” & “Keep On Chooglin”, but nothing in between those songs really compares to them. I suppose it’s better to have a good beginning and a great end with a mediocre middle than to just be equally decent throughout, but hell if I’m not gonna complain about it anyway. And no, I don’t really like “Good Golly, Miss Molly” as much as some people on here do, for the record.

Liked: Proud Mary, Keep On Chooglin'

Okay in a old time hoary way

Another good one by CCR. Some all time classics on here. Worth a listen.

sonidos bastante cools y rapsy, me gustaron algunos temas otros no tanto

it’s not my typical genre but i can see why people listen to it

Not what I usually listen to but still interesting

feels like american music so minus one point

This has been on my wish list for years. So have most CCR albums but they seem surprisingly tough to come by, and since I’m such a tightwad, I’ve never splashed out on one (always chasing the bargains). Before starting this 1001 business, I tended to save my debut listen of an album for the moment the record hit the platter, so I’m hearing (most of the tracks on) Bayou Country for the first time today and honestly I’m quite surprised. I have had Cosmo’s Factory (87/1001 for me) for years but I had assumed that the lengthy opening track Ramble Tamble was an exception to their regular M.O. rather than standard. Bayou Country makes it seem like stretching out for extended jams is a more regular occurrence than I had been led to believe. I’m not sure this is particularly good news from my perspective. The CCR vibe really works for me, but I’d much rather 12 brief Fogerty mini-masterpieces than fewer with some jammed out. I will still seek out this and the rest of their albums I haven’t snagged yet, but when I’m finally retired in a castle with my full set of CCR albums, I have a feeling this one might get the fewest listens. We shall see.

3.5, I liked the rock-esque parts, but some of it just faded into the background for me

I respect CCR, and this has some great stuff on it, but it isn't Green River. Worth a listen, though, and doesn't overstay its welcome.

ok not for me tho im not really into country music

I love CCR

Southern blues. Graveyard Train was ploddingly hard work. Rest were mostly fine. 3.

Superior blues rock. Fine not dazzling.

A good inclusion, and worthy of familiarity, but not one to leave an indelible mark on me. Proud Mary is, of course, a classic, but I was left somewhat with the sense that this band were playing at being boys from the bayou rather than telling tales of a genuine shared experience.

Música de se escutar tomando jack daniels

Pf barato entrega o basico

It was alright

CCR; there's a name I've heard. What am I expecting here? Some late 60s/early 70s classic rock, maybe a bit of psychedelia, maybe a bit of counterculture. Oh, and weren't these guys misappropriated by the alt-right or something? What I actually got: Blues-rock wig-out. Not bad.

a fun listen with some already known classics.

This is a decent 2nd album highlighted by the cover of Proud Mary and the original Born On The Bayou. This album was a sign of great things to come.

Grandes clásicos

You know the drill.......helicopter blades chopping the humid air, jungle canopy below, some exhausted yanks staring out the door “Born on the Bayou” or “Fortunate Son” starts blasting....director thinks he just invented cinema

Viejita y rockera

I can taste cold beer I can hear mosquitos buzz Wait, that's Fogerty

431/1089 - Better than the first one from them I think? I don't remember. This was a lot of blues jams in E with harmonica and crunchy guitars which isn't the most exciting or stimulating thing to listen to.

As much as I like the Creedence, I'd rather go with a greatest hits compilation

Good stuff 3

Hard to separate from the Gumpifocation of this boomer music, but these are pretty much all bangers.

Liked this one. Bluesy.

Nothing special but an OK bit of swamp rock, if that is such a thing.

I thought it was gonna be trash once he started singing but it was actually pretty listenable

Enjoyed it but certainly not CCR’s best. Top tracks were probably proud Mary and keep on Chooglin.

Too mellow for my taste. It tended to meld into the background even when I was actively listening. I only realized it was done when Greta van Fleet kicked in with a much more insistent guitar line

I love CCR. Not their best album but has Proud Mary on it. Still underrated as a band.

Proud Mary"

CCR is great. Solid record of favorites and new discoveries.

Not a bad album. Nothing inherently special but a good listen.

Blind album, dont live under a rock so I know CCR. Album was okay. Very typical style and was s good listen.

Was alright, only listened once so can't give a great review. Prefer Tina's proud Mary

I'm not sure there is a song I despise more than Proud Mary. I have heard it so many times covered by crappy karaoke level performers when I worked at the Tory club in Hexham when I was 18, literally every single Saturday night someone else would come and play it. The original version is easily the best version of this song and is actually listenable, way better than whoever has the popular cover of it. Some good songs on here too also, graveyard train drags a bit, keep on chooglin was nice 3

wow he really does just sing like that all the time huh? not really the kind of music i usually listen to but i fuck w/ graveyard train incredibly. sometimes u just gotta yell. the harmonica solos on keep on chooglin(?) are fun too. other than that its like, fine? maybe a little samey but the way the album is laid out stops the tracks running together and its over before outstaying its welcome. i'd probably enjoy it a lot less if the weather wasn't as sunny as it is today,

Just fine

Off to a grand start. Good golly miss molly is top notch. Holy heck, is that a Flushed Away reference? Pretty good. Is this blues? Methinks it's blues.

Couple of classics here but it all kind of sounds the same.

Grew on me. Pretty cool.

Ikke den verste av klassikerne dette. Men litt treig.

Ohh it was amazing good for boho music and also for day stories on insta. Love bootleg

-about 40 minutes of music with about 10 minutes of ideas, a pleasant jaunt but ultimately a little repetitive for my tastes -it's a nice listen and i imagine it would be best enjoyed in an outdoor setting with a few cold ones -i listened to it while fixing my garbage disposal and doing some laundry and i found it was a pleasant background music experience -my personal bias bleeding through here but i thought the drumming was extremely boring which is where my ears tend to wander in general when i listen to music -Overall, an album I'd have no problem listening to again, but probably not one that I'd personally put on if handed the aux cord, with an exception made if I was in a bayou FAVORITE SONG: Born On The Bayou

This is #day583 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… here's to my second Credence album already, aka their first out of three released that year. Oh, what a year it must have been! I've probably already said that when I got Green River. Anyway, some good 'ol late '60s blues rock here, I don't mind. "Proud Mary" is, of course, a classic. This is a strong 3 out of 5. Looking forward to #day584.

Has classic CCR tracks and a few deep cuts. Like any CCR release, John Fogerty’s voice and guitar picking are front and center. Great dual effect on the vocals. 3.5/5.0
