Reviews (page 8 of 8)
Country isn't my thing and I cannot understand the praising of the lyrics. It's crude craftsmanship at best, but nothing near a lyricist would write and be proud of.
Should have known when I saw the hay bales. It's pretty bad. Terrible lyrics. Hope his song writing got better cos he has a reputation that this album doesn't justify.
Bästa låten: Sam Stone (låter precis som The Post War Dream).
Harmless songs with some subversive and amusing lyrics. Got boring around the third or fourth song, though, as the music is just so ...country and western. The haystack in the album cover says a lot! Not very keen on his voice; sounds a bit like a farmer, leaning on his rake, singing at the sunset. Yee-haw.
It's country/folk music not much more I can say. One.
So bad
Yet another by numbers Country album- queue slide gutar etc. There was one song I didn't mind, but just a general feeling of apathy towards this rather than any particular hostile feeling. The cover art was definitely the worst thing about the album. Closely followed by the music. It would get 0.5 of a star on a very good day.
Holy shit, schon wieder dieses nasale Countrygequake. Country - Singer/Songwriter - Grunge und da capo. Tolle Liste.
I’d love to see a documentary about how this guy got a record deal, sold a single album and then got popular enough to make this list. Because there’s got to be a great story about it. Great accomplishment for a guy that can’t sing.
This was… horrible. Weird and unusual punishment.
Not the biggest fan of country, didn’t enjoy his voice
not my kind of country
Too country for me.
Country - especially old school country - is not for me
Actually great artist and pretty good album, I’m just sick and tired of listening to country
escuche 8 minutos y fue suficiente; I hate country. Funny guitar skills tho. 2/10.
Shit sucks
And here I was thinking I hate Bob Dylan 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
It's country. It's got topless women and religion. It's not my cuppa.
I don't like country music at all.
I tried to get through it, I gave up on the 3rd track. I can't handle his nasally twangy voice.
Not for me. Too folky and twangy. 1/5
No
Sounded like a parody album of what country music should be. Guitar playing was good.
Just the cover had me going 'oh no', but the music was even worse than I expected. And it all sounds the same.

Why is this album in this list?
Someone I've never heard of, self-titled album, sat in full denim on bales of hay with a guitar behind him. Not to go into this with any prejudice, but I think I'm going to dislike it. Yes, this is entirely wrong for me.
Actual lyrics: His brains was on the sidewalk and blood was on his shoes C'mon baby, spend the night with me
I hate this kind of music.
How in the world this is one of the best albums of all time is beyond me, but I'm no musical historian.
Can't stand country music
A bit tooo C&W for me. Hello in There wasn't bad. Quiet man too. But that was it. Almost a two, but went for 1 star
this was a DNF for me
This is not music. It’s stories told with a boring guitar strumming in the background.
Excrucingly painful pissarro poor effort at the worst music genre..... country. I'm getting massively fed up with the volume of crappy whiny country albums this site selects. This guys singing is hilairballs.... jeez they must have been desperate in 1971 to listen to any aul eejit whining along to cheesey country lyrics.
country nooo
The first two songs were king of funny, seemed to not be too serious on the country side. Then it went downhill and got pretty bad. From his voice, he reminded me of Bob Dylan. But otherwise, way too country for my liking.
Perhaps has never been more relevant until these political times. You won't catch me with an illegal smile (or at least my lawyer concedes)! It all sounds the same. If you have this vinyl, you know what to do.
Never again. Please.
Old timey country for small cowpoke children
abysmal
You really have to be willing to listen to this genre I think, it doesn't appeal to me
Zzz
Vieux country, voix nasillarde, rien d'exceptionnel.
Awful
I now feel bad for giving the Divine Comedy's album a 1 last week, because this was far worse. I tapped out in the middle of the fourth song.
I can do some bits of folk. I cannot do any country. Sadly here the latter shone through. Absolutely abysmal. Can't take his voice seriously. Some of the songwriting sounded like he was trying to emulate the freewheelin, but failing. So happy I never have to listen to it again.
Country crap
please i am begging i am so fucking tired of american country albums
Country music to me , nothing special
Sorry, this put me to sleep
No me gusta el country
1.5
Yet another record to die of. What dump was this album dug out of?
yeah nah. fuck cunty music.
John Prine us the kind of guy who can take a real hard cock up his ass. His music is a a piece of work itching to be castrated. I both love and hate everything about him. A beekeeper amongst wasps.
A fucking hay bail. This is going to be country shit, isn't it? Ergh. No thanks.
Not my thing
Reminded of me with Bob Dylan in singing style. Lyrically naive though. A BIG NO from me.
I would rather listen to a jazz album.
I'm scared... this looks country. Yup it's full on country. Horrible album.
Struggled to listen- seems pretty good for standard country and there are touches of nice guitar but overall way to old timey for me. Some passages for hello in there were interesting
Naff
Didn’t like…..
Absolutely terrible. This is like Family Guy wrote a parody of somebody improv’ing a country song. 0 stars. Why is this on here?
Well. It's country. And it's not bad at that, I suppose, but it's not my thing ^^
Ik zeg: Mijn hemel, make it stop!
This one was rough to get through. Just not my style at all. Kinda reminded me of this pedo-ish drivers ed instructor that I had who would always put on weird post-WWII americana. Dude let me skip a drive so wasn't all bad.
I just dislike this kind of country sound. The lyrics were interesting to read, but the vocal fry and slide guitar have me shudders down the spine.
Really wasn't for me at all
I never listen to it before and reading the Wikipedia article, I got the relevance for John Prine. However, for me, it still looks like a piece of really boring country music. In the best moments of the album, it remembers me of a bad cover of the worst songs from Bob Dylan.
I really didn't want to finish this album I feel like this is the punishment for not listening yesterday Just pure old school country Didn't want to finish, it's too long
Ugh. It is certainly a country album.
I’m not properly listening to this sorry x
Crap
Not a fan. First time I have heard of this guy and I am glad to say I haven’t missed out.
I am sorry i could get through this album. This is Country at it worse and I dont like country at the best of times. 1 star
Country+Folk=Country Folk. Apparently. Folk My Life for making me listen to this.
Meh no relatable content
Thanks, I hated it.
twang twang twang i'm a country singer and I hate technology so put me back in my motel
If I have to listen to another second of this godawful noise, I might spontaneously combust.
Donald and Lydia is pretty good listening.
