Reviews (page 7 of 8)
Interesting little album.
I don’t hate it but it is definitely very twangy and not what I’d usually listen to but it’s also kind of a vibe It’s also 11:36pm and struggling to get through country songs - But not horrrrrible but not rly my thing
Great songwriter, but who pissed in his cheerios? All of the songs are downers.
I think my open-mindedness is wearing thin. I don’t doubt this is a good album for people who like country, and the lyrics are indeed sharp, but it’s just not for me
Initially this felt comforting and warm, almost familir and easy to listen to..but then after the 4th track I was done - it was all starting to blend tg and became mediocre.
Yeah, country music just ain't for me. Really dull and repetitive. 4/10 fav songs : Spanish Pipedream
This was OK but I couldn't get into it. One of America's Next Dylans? No.
Interesting lyrics, but not a fan of the style.
Just not a big country fan...doesn't resonate with me at all.
His words are pointless
Ugh. Another Dylan. Literally the exact same shtick as ole Bob. Bleh
this was very comparable to listening to a Dylan album. his voice was marginally less annoying, so 1/2 star better for him. 2.5 stars
Fucking awful
I was somewhat hopeful for this after reading some positive reviews. I know there's good lyrical content in there, but it still sits within the framework of standard, "well shucks" country. All the hallmarks of country music, with the twangy guitars, and especially his drawling, country twang of a voice. I'm not a fan.
not my thing
Ah fuck... FAVO: Flashback Blues, Sam Stone
Enjoyable lyrics but I CAN'T STAND the backing music. Bad country.
Folk and country, still not my jam. However, this was at least more upbeat and had some funny lyrics thrown in. Although some of the rhymes really felt forced at times.
Ga meg lite
A good example of the genre but not a good example of something I like.
A collection of sappy Americana. It was fine but really not for me.
Some funny lyrics…
Hello in There.
so country style ned so gfühlt
Not my taste
i didn’t dislike it as much as i thought i would, but it’s not quite a 3. every time i thought it was something more than countryslop, it would throw in a lyric about “beer”, “jesus,” or “hate muh wife” to prove me wrong. every track is a bit repetitive too tho. fav track: sam stone
Country wie man es hören möchte. Aber dann ist auch mal gut. Für mich kein Meilenstein.
good
2.0 - Weak
If you, like me, are a Brit with no idea who this man is, you might be tempted to make some assumptions on what you're about to listen to based on the cover - with its haybales, acoustic guitar and double denim around this clean looking white guy - but let me tell you, you'd be absolutely right! This is the country-est country I've heard I think ever: it's got twangy slide guitar, Southern US accents, the start-to-Jesus time is less than four minutes, and all the songs relate to working class folks having a tough old time. It's country, and it turns out I really don't like country. It DOES, however, get the second star for its absolutely blistering takedown of patriots in Your Flag Decal... which hits even harder today than it would've done when first written.
He's a good story teller.
1.5 due to whiny ass voice
i'm not a country gal, but we need songs like "your flag decal won't get you into heaven anymore" instead of the country-pop slop that this genre is currently forcing down our throats
Musically a very traditional record. Country, folk, stuff like that, you name it. I guess, it must be all in the lyrics. Sarcastic detector off. Prine's voice wasn't particularly appealing, a bit throaty. Was it something special at the time of release in 1971? Possibly. Honestly: If so, I don't get it. One thing's for sure: I'm never going to listen to this record again. But hey – I tried. The good old American way: I'll try anything once.
It's country music.
Country is certainly not my thing. This is sometimes more folky than country, which makes some of it tolerable, but still. Hard to get into this on any level.
Pretty twangy. Very country. He literally sings about peaches and Jesus in the second track. Not my genre, but the songwriting isn’t bad on tracks like Paradise and Your Flag Decal Won’t get you into Heaven Anymore.
2 - didn’t find anything I really liked
too much country for me
John Prine has several songs that are very dear to me and that I think are important to the American song book. For me, they aren't on this particular album.
Sorry, John, but I’ve never been able to get behind your style of country. Though I do very much appreciate “Your Flag Decal Won’t Get You Into Heaven Anymore.” Would have been just as needed a message in the 2000s as in 1971. Prine also deserves much credit for “Angel From Montgomery.” The Bonnie Raitt version gets a lot of love in our family.
I didn’t know that John Prine wrote Angel From Montgomery, a song I recognize and like from a Dave Matthews Band cover. Even so the music is just OK. The lyrics are hokey. And his vocals are nothing to get excited about.
This so wasn't my thing. I struggle with country. It took me four attempts to get through this. Begrudgingly. Sorry
Meh
Typical country music

I'm not sure how I feel about this album. I didn't hate it but it's a bit too old man rock for my tastes.
Hmm, I felt some whiplash listening to this. Some songs are goofy novelties, others are like "god is dead and all my friends died in the war." I liked a few songs, but as an album, I find this confusing. 2 stars?
I've had so many people tell me how great this bloke is, but i was pretty bored tbh... maybe i'll go read the lyrics again
I’m not a member of the country hate train. But I also didn’t like this all that much. The lyrics can sometimes be hard hitting. But there wasn’t much variety with the instrumentation. 2/5
This isn’t for me, but it IS for lots of people, so good for them.
uninteresting country
Not a huge fan of country Dylan, tbh.
Relaxing country and statement pieces
Sounded like Bob Dylan doing country music - 2 things I'm not really into.
This pure country singer songwriter stuff probably has a place on this list in that loads of people love it, but it didn't connect with me - I guess you need to hyperfixate on the lyrics which I didn't do.
I fully approve of his lyrics, and that is about the most praise I can give this. 2.3 stars solely for telling the truth about the world.
A couple of songs sounded like some Bob Dylan deep cuts otherwise just not good
Really not keen on the genre. There is at least some humour in this one though. It does get samey after not long at all, but it isn't awful in terms of lyrics.
Yeah, giving this a second shot. I can see why this does well for fans of Dylan, Young and Springsteen. Some of the music is pretty. But I just can’t get into this. 2/5
Man I can't stand country music. Listening to this after a 5 hour drive isn't helping either. This isn't the worst album ever, but it is the last thing I want to hear today Very low 2
I understand what makes this good, but I don't like it at all. You can have very good termites in your porch's wood, but that only makes it worse. Favorite song: Hello in there
How many of these "one man and his thoughts" country albums have I got left? They're all so samey.
It's becoming more and more obvious that the human race is splintering into 2 races. One pursues knowledge, security, and progress for all humans. The other wants to return to a previous time where ignorance and mass stupidity reign supreme. The latter creates music such as this as a waste byproduct.
Twice as irritating as it is interesting. I suppose we can just chalk it up to a matter of a style that I rarely appreciate. His stories of down-on-their-luck American ordinary-types have a certain poignancy, but this can’t do nothin about his nasal delivery or the deep dull repetitiveness of the tunes themselves. Can’t see listening to this twice.
Repetitive with stupid lyrics and boring themes. Really not that great other than a few of the instrumentals. 2/5.
It felt like a meta commentary album that used country to mask its intentions. Otherwise this would be no different than the seemingly hundreds of other drowry country albums at the time. 2.4
Country para dormir.
Boring yellowstone music
Fine but a little bland
Can't say I'm a country fan. Had the occasional good lyric
Oh nooo. Very country isn't it. Lyrically more interesting than others. But strong country.
I dunno, this sounds country and I pretty much don't jive with it. I remember back in the 70s/80s a few friends that respected this guy, songwriting they might have liked? They weren't country dudes tho, so made me think I need to listen someday. Doing that now. Dylan-esque maybe? 2 stars sigh
Not my kind of music
Country para dormir.
Plenty of similar sounding songs here, but that doesn’t mean I’m not a sucker for pedal steel. Going a little lower since it didn’t do anything radically different for the time.
I'd like to punk cover Flag Decal
I found this unpleasant.
I wanted to like this, I started of liking it, the lyrics are kinda entertaining, but after a while it just all blurred into one big country mass
It's country. Normally, I don't mind country. I don't mind this just the same. But, it's country. I have a hard time feeling like I'd ever like to sit down and listen to any of this again. Not sure I like his voice, either.
Some fun lyrics - satirical or snide in an entertaining way. Pretty good musically. A bit too country-croony.
He sounds like a duck. It's bad.
I would be glad to listen this album only at special circumstances - like being a hitch-hiker in the southern part of USA.
So I can tell that he is a talented songwriter, like if Bob Dylan grew up in Kentucky or something, but too many times he throws in a random silly line that takes away from what the song had going for it. I love old country but this one was not one of my favorites
Seems to have a good sense of humor. Music is ok.
Country para dormir.
Country meh
Naw
Really solid country-tinged folk. I can definitely see the Dylan comparisons. Ultimately I think I'd rather be listening to him instead though to be honest.
Didn't actively hate it which is big praise for a country album of which there is way too much on this list 2.4
Alright. Well, it's hard to say anything really bad about this album. But it's also really hard to say anything good about this album. It exists, I guess? 2.5 rounded down, because I can't remember what it sounded like, since it finished an hour ago.
Interesting but its not my genre so it got to the point where it make me feel a bit bored. Respectfully tho. Appreciate the art and the atmosphere but its not for me. Liked a few songs still!
I've tried to get into this guy so many times but his voice just isn't for me. Lyrics/songwriting not bad though
Okay
Voice is grating :(
We have both sorts of music, country and western. It was ok, all sounded pretty much the same as other stuff in this style with a dash of drug taking and depression. Never heard of the guy before today but he sounded a lot like Bob Dylan on a few tracks. Won't be listening again.
Ikke for meg. Country blir så fort "juvenile" syntes jeg. Som i første sangen: "I just wanted to have fun, my sister was a nun" what? "We have Bob Dylan at home"
It’s not bad… but it’s so boring! 🥱 Country music isn’t my cup of tea.
Country para dormir.
I understand his importance as a lyricist, but I couldn’t get into it.
Alright
I made it about halfway though and that is more than enough for me. Nothing particularly wrong with the music besides it being a bit bland and repetitive.
VERY folky
Got a good country album yesterday but this is not nearly as good
I'm already on the fourth song and it so far has all blended together. I'm multitasking but even so it's been most boring. I'm convinced that I will never like this genre, and that they can't ever do anything interesting because if they did it would completely change the style (which would be an improvement in my view). He sounds just like a thousand other artists to me. SO boring and repetitive. I just hate it. Okay I guess I should listen to the rest before I condemn it entirely. --Okay well that was sad. I finally thought they had a good song but the playlist had ended and it was playing something different. I know it's very mean of me to say but I just don't get the appeal and I would be embarrassed to like this music or to be a creator of this kind of music.
It’s pretty unremarkable but not awful. Fun lyrics here and there.
Creative, didn't really do much for me though
I often try to convince my wife the country is not all just ‘There’s a tear in my beer’ type songs. But then some bullshit like this comes along
It may grow on me.
I like a bit of C&W with a sense of humour. Alabama 3 are clearly fans. There wasn't enough to sustain me until the end. The lyrics wouldn't make daytime radio in 2023.
Mooie teksten, maar oerend saaie muziek. Laat Prine teksten voor anderen schrijven.
Pretty dull
Mmm country, non mi piace molto...
Who? Amercian country-folk singer. Nothing to get excited about.
Really easy listening, songs blended together. This is something I'd expect to hear in the background at a country restaurant. Not really my cup of tea, however.
Bit boring
Not my thing
Really not my thing. Just couldn't get into this.
Middle of the country road music.
Not my jam
Country folk old school cantat amb sentiment. Next
it’s probably better than i think but i don’t dig his voice and the production gives me the heebies
Like a west Pennine mill town in the drizzle; you can spot glimpses of beauty in the architecture but really you’d rather be at home
First couple of songs were weird. I like the commentary on WW2. Not my favorite.
a listen too old-style country for me
This feels like something they’d dance to in Friday Night Lights. I’m not really hugely into country, and the music on these tracks feels pretty average, nothing particularly notable. Like others have pointed out, it has some pretty good lyrics. Bob Dylan apparently described John Prine’s music as “pure Proustian existentialism” but I’m not going to pretend that I’m well-read enough to know what that means. I like a good lyric but it needs to be set to music I like or it may as well just be poetry to me (and I would prefer it that way, I like poetry!) It’s classic country, but it would be really hard for any country to get more than 3 stars from me. Each individual song was fine, but none really stood out to me, and listening to all the songs back-to-back I just found myself bored and waiting for it to end. Wasn’t a fan of the vocals either. Best tracks: Your Flag Decal Won’t Get You Into Heaven (I liked the message of this one), Quiet Man, Donald and Lydia (did John Prine just predict long-distance sexting?(just to be clear this is a joke I understand what the song is about)) Worst tracks: Paradise (I really didn’t like the instrumental on this one), Hello in There, Six O’Clock News
I didn't like this album. I almost fell asleep to this album, which to be fair, was the vibe it was going for. But that's not what I'm looking for in an album. Plus a lot of the songs sound the same, so it was hard to know when a song ended and a new song started. 2/5 Favorite song: N/A Worst song: N/A, No opinions on any of the songs on this album.
Get some of the lyrics are good and funny, but don’t like country
Nei.
Maybe a weak 3, but there were some loony lyrics in this thing
2 not great. A few okay sounding songs here and there. Lyrics were funny-strange at times
Not for me
Not a fan at all, but not terrible music
still hate country
Ganska intetsägande.
Not my taste. Like Dylan and Don MacLean, albeit jollier, with a strong country vibe. Just not for me.
Not my cuppa tea. I'm sure for the right person this album rules.
Definitely not an album I would have chosen to listen, and it hasn’t really changed my mind about country music not really being for me. Simple songs, some funny lines, and an interesting political stance on a few tracks. If this fella was playing a festival stage I’d sit and have a drink while he played. Not likely to listen to the album again.
THIS IS NOT MY COUNTRY!!! My Country is more like Cash or Nelson...
imma have to pass after just 2 songs. not for me. 2.

Auuuuuuuuuuuuu ja Auuuuuuuuuuuuuu. Koirat haukkuu ja karavaani kulkee.

Country Dylan. No thanks.
Meh
Not worth a listen. Hokey and boring
This style of country is just not to my taste
Didn’t listen
Trött countryfolk.
Eh.
Liked the 2 songs I already knew (angel from Montgomery, paradise) and other lyrics were clever but just musically not interesting enough for me
Actually decent country
Did not like the start to this album at all. Lyrics were dumb and instrumentals weren't interesting. It got better toward the end, but country music just isn't my thing. Favorite track: Far From Me
Really a 2.5 for me. I liked some of the lyricism, found other songs dull, but overall it didn't do anything to make me like this style of music more than I had previously.
Some ok songs, but mostly forgettable and or grating songs
Dificilmente mais algum crountry clássico vai me surpreender.
Not really my thing musically unfortunately, I can appreciate the songwriting but the album as a whole didn't really speak to me
Its either pioneering or desperately derivative. Maybe I just don't like country
Twang. Would have been better as a comedy album
his music is not my type at all so it was really hard to keep an open mind when at the start. i understand that he is an influential song writer but i just can’t get his voice and music past a good part.
I'm happy to have finally listened to John Prine - he's one of those artists I've heard about for years and have heard cover versions of his songs but never heard him. It's not the kind of music I enjoy listening to, though, which makes it tough (or unfair) to rate - I'm partial to the lyrics on "Your Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore" :) but lyrics are a nice accompaniment for me and not the main course - I can definitely appreciate the sincerity and absolutely understand why people love him, I just can't get into it. 5/10 2 stars.
No me ha dado mucho
Just OK. A few interesting sounds.
not my cup of tea at all. not a 1 star affair though
Undoubtedly the greatest country album named "John Prine" released in 1971.
Hot 'meh'. Actually, this 'meh' is becoming predictable shorthand, with no thought behind it. So: (1) Sounds like sub-par Dylan. (2) I hate Dylan . (To be fair, this falls under 'meh' criticism. My dislike of Dylan is capricious, untested and quite possibly unsubstatiable.) (3) The production is really weedy. Lots of places where a bit of backbone would have made a big difference. But no banana. (4) Lyrically, absent without leave. I suppose this must strike some person's sweet spot. And it is helpful to remember the subjective element inherent in any ranking and recommendation process (mine included0. Even so...
Too country for my tastes
Not bad but why does it feel like it lasts 2 hours?
Country just ain't for me
Yee haw, not my thing - way too simple
Too much twang for my taste. The songs are pleasant enough, but also too monotonous to need to listen to more than 2 before you've effectively listened to the entire album.
Next.
Old school country, expertly played, but nothing to write home about. 2/5
An Ok album. A bit country and twangy for my tastes overall. But pleasant to listen to mostly.
Not a country fan. To me, his voice sounds strained and has that country "twang" that oh so reminds me of John Denver (my #1 most hated artist). Sorry John. Just not for me. Won't be listening to this one ever again. D
Good music to have on in the background, but id have to be in the right mood
country...
Best Song: Spanish Pipedream. Halfway decent lyrics. Worst Song: Far from Me. That mewling cat instrumental in the background is not helping. Overall: Not great. Really repetitive rhythm and rhyme schemes, drawled in what feels like an imitation Dylan affectation. Why listen to this when Bob Dylan and Gordon Lightfoot have done it so much better?
don't like country
A more quiet and reserved Bob Dylan....I like that. Very relaxing music. Nothing I'll go out of my way to listen to again but I'm glad this farm boy was able to get up on a bale o hay and talk about his troubles and reminisce about days of yore.
Pretty generic American country with hints of Dylan
Dreary whiny folk rock... the electric bits were ok but overall not my thing
Still developing as a song writer, this is far from his best. Limp anti-vietnam war protest songs and barely comedic vignettes while still trying to sound like the New Bob Dylan. Unfortunately he succeeds in the latter and loses his own personalty for it. Loudon Wainwright was funnier, more observant and had better melodies.
Not for me
First listen. never heard of him before. Not too bad :) 2/5
Not my genre but not bad
Viel me zwaar tegen
He writes some well crafted lyrics but I find this album comes across completely flat musically and honestly the cleverness of the lyrics kind of pulls me out of the experience in a distracting way.
This sounds country, so its a no from me dawg
Not a fan of country, even if the lyrics are better than most country drivel.
Musically felt repetitive throughout the album, enjoyed the lyrics.
I just couldn't really get past the sound of this one. I've also heard a lot of these ideas before done WAY better. You want an album with multiple songs in a row that tell the story of somebody growing older? Bookends by Simon and Garfunkel. You want folk acoustic protest music? Oh my god, there are so many better options. This album disappointed me.
eh
Not my favorite
Didn’t know that country-folk was even a thing. While I appreciated the lyrics, I can’t really say that I enjoyed the delivery. I’ll give it a 2
I just find this type of country music boring. no edge apart from some dodgy lyrical content. Can't imagine why this is on the list. What marks it out from all the countless other similar sounding (to my ears) albums?
Not a fan of the boring generic country accompaniment but the lyrics are really something. “Sam Stone” sounds like a direct antecedent to Pink Floyd’s “xxx” from the Final Cut.
Country music is not my thing
I thought I was a music lover. I haven't loved anything I've heard yet. Maybe I'm a heathen. Oh well, I'll keep trying.
Country is really not my thing
favourite song illegal smile not my genre but good lyrics
Nota: 2.5
interesting enough lyrically to persevere but its still cuntry.
Not for me
country? no.
I like some country. Not this.
Not too bad for a country album, some pretty funny lines. Still not for me though
3.5
its ok, not a big folk guy
I heard he died of covid, and it made me sad.
Ei
Meh
John Prine by John Prine did absolutely nothing for me. My immediate reaction was that it sounded like a Temu version of Bob Dylan, and unfortunately my opinion didn’t improve as the album went on. I know by now through this challenge that country and country-folk music rarely works for me, and this album was no exception. The nasal vocal style, the laid-back delivery and the overall sound just felt whiny and, if I’m honest, quite boring. I also struggled with the lyrics. I know John Prine is highly regarded as a songwriter, but for me the lyrics didn’t come across as witty, insightful or emotionally powerful. Instead, a lot of it felt clichéd and fairly unremarkable. I kept waiting for something to click, but it never happened. This is definitely not an album I’ll be returning to. I can appreciate that many people love his storytelling and understated style, but it just wasn’t for me. Favourite tracks: I genuinely couldn’t pick one that stood out Least favourite tracks: “Quiet Man” reminded me of a poor man’s Tangled Up in Blue Album artwork: Standard country album cover
country is not my cup of tea it sounds kinda sad
Disco muy country, no es lo mío.
un embole
this is not for me
Sorry I just can't do country or songwriting. 1 star.
I’m sorry. I’m really trying with the country music but it just isn’t for me. And they need to stop giving me so many country albums
discount bob dylan
Lo escuché mientras me bañaba. Cero mi estilo
Country & western. Not for me

In contrast with the top review for this album (at least at time of writing): I do like country music, probably more than most users of this site. I think there's a whole lot of great country out there, and also a decent bit of good country on this list. To me, John Prine does not fit into that at all. He sounds to me like if Bob Dylan was from Nashville. Some of the songs and lyrics on this album are very good, but the atrocious singing seriously holds the music back. I can see why someone would like this album, and why it should be on the list, but I'm glad that I'll likely never have to listen to it again in my life.
Not my kind of country
John Prine by John Prine written by John Prine performed by John Prine bye bye John Prine buy John Prine. 2/10
Country sucks.
If you asked somebody to imagine the most country country they could think of it still wouldn't be as country as this. Country is best when it experiments, and this just doesn't.
A country album from 1971 I tried, but I just can't, it hurts too much . . .
I'm not even finishing that is crazy twangy and not at all my thing
Trash sorry
2/10
A bowl of oatmeal tried to stare me down and won
Proof that this list is a joke Unable to listen past track 4 without having to turn it off so that I could concentrate on Work
not my style
I just really dislike country
Nah
Yeeeeeehaaaah!!!
not my thing, too jesusy
John Prine? More like John pry-my-ears-off-my-head after listening to this album
This was a perfect album Cover. It painted the picture of just what kind of evil was about to happen in my ears the moment I pressed play. Thanks for the transparency, John.
John Prine
All songs sounds same Don’t like his voice Country
Nope, too much country
The supposed satire of this was utterly lost on me. One tune endlessly picked on his geetaar. Lyrics were just a jumble of words telling what he did that day or who he knew.. it got on my nerves, what is this doing on this list?
It’s got that horrible country twang.
Yeah, no
I won't listen to much country. This album reminded me why. The instrumental worked well, but it was very simple, even a little bit boring. The themes of the songs are interesting. Starting with a song about getting doped up and committing murder is definitely a choice, but not the one that I would have made. I hate the vocals in most country music. Singing everything flat and nasal like this isn't for me. I would have lost nothing if I had never listened to this album. Instead, I lost 45 minutes of my life that I won't get back.
As a Californian, this level of hokey does not compute.
I suspect John is an acquired taste, not unlike say maybe a Tom Waite. Some of the tunes seemed like an attempt at humor? Anyway, it doesn't work for me.
Peaches and Jesus. Good God, how is this person considered to be among the best song writers? "God bless this chicken", nope God bless me for actually making it through this POS. The longer I listened, the more I wanted to make it stop. I get why he is here, many artists have cited him as an influence and great song writer, but a great song has to be accompanied by at least somewhat interesting instrumentation to be great music. This isn't that. The lyrics were often pretty cheesy. No joy here for me. I'm about 60 albums in and this is going to be my first bomb. I really didn't need to hear before I die. It did make me want to die though. A painful listen.
Bullsh*t
Country, 22eme album => 1/5
No no no. His voice is terrible. Like a sheep.
If you like country and Dylan then this is for you. I like neither. This is boring
bah.
noh peruskauraa…
Not for me, but Illegal Smile was funny and novel.
OK this guy clearly wants to be Bob Dylan, but country. He just comes across as Nervous Norvus doing Paralysed.
I could only get 4 tracks in before his voice got too annoying. No thanks!
Long time folk singer. Either you like his music or not. I’m a not.
come on...
I was excited when I saw this was today's album. A chance to finally sit down with an old beloved gem (apparently endorsed by no less than Bob Dylan) that I hadn't heard before. Basically, the sort of stuff that makes me look forward to this 1001 albums project. I hated this so much. 'Illegal Smile' is a bunch of the most banal, obvious imagery, contorted into awkward rhyme and meter. Some songs are petulant and myopic, like someone complaining about how the TV news is nothing but sad stories. Other songs like 'Sam Stone' are an over-the-top tidal wave of misery and tragedy. There’s a dissonant mix throughout of praise for the simple rural folk, and contempt for their values. Also 'Pretty Good' has a bit about someone being sexually assaulted by a dog but I'm going to assume that's a reference or metaphor that I failed to understand. This album made me wonder if I hate folk music. I understand this is partly a product of The War, and post-1968 US politics, but that doesn't decode it, doesn't make it click for me. The funny parts aren't funny, and the sad parts are as depressing as you can get without being inadvertently funny. (I didn't like my first Joni Mitchell album either. Is there something about the early 1970s that I don't get?) I feel bad seeing him there on his little hay bale. I don't blame him; it’s not his fault. I hope he found some peace.
Hillbilly music once again, pass

Bit too country.
One word for one star......awful
No thank you. Some amusing lyrics, but not enough to actually enjoy listening to country music.
My 72nd album and the first I couldn't finish.
Far too much rootin' tootin' yee haw for my liking.
Not a Country music lover at all and this album did nothing to change that point of view. A genre I will never play and even avoid. My lack of Country music knowledge means that I cannot make a judgement on the actual quality of the music and where it stands compared to similar albums. I therefore go with my gut to say it’s a big miss from me. 1/5 20/10/24
Americans complaining about the amount of Brit-pop here can shut the fuck up
Personally offended by this one
Not even a good singer. Lyric so cliché. CW bad enough; this one just made it worse.
There’s a hole in daddy’s arm where all the money goes.
Well, it happened. The true test of wills when it comes to music for me: I have scratched and clawed my way through an entire country album. No genre can lay claim to being my most hated like country can. This album completely ruined my morning drive. Several times I lost focus because my ears and brain were being subjected to torture. My toddler couldn't wait to get out of the car and into daycare; and he will probably hold this ordeal against me for the rest of his life. This album actually made me appreciate the communal radio in work, and I hate the communal radio in work. Listening to this felt like everything my body and brain typically rejects was trying to attack. As if there was some internal civil war going on. Every country 'twang' that hit was like a carpet bomb on my senses. Every country lyrical cliche John Prine hit was as if the troops within the trenches of my insides had to duck from an onslaught of bullets heading their way. With every new track starting up, and the longer the runtime went on, it began to feel like a war of attrition. But my troops have persevered and we are all the stronger for it. All jokes aside, John Prine seemed like he was a nice dude. I'm sure he has many fans; and it seems many artists mark him as an influence on their work. I just really do not like country music. Like at all. It is to music what 'Battlefield Earth' is to sci-fi film. It is the 'Episode I' of the Star Wars prequels (yeah, I like Episode II. We do exist). It is the 'Revolutions' of the Matrix trilogy. It is the 'Highlander II' of the Highlander franchise. And it is every sequel to the original 'Crow' film because they're all terrible. I guess it wasn't "all jokes aside" lol. Dip country music a little bit into other genres and I can tolerate it a bit more. But 40+ minutes of pure country? Not something I'm into at all. Aw what the hell - I'll give you some more! Country music is the 'Big Rigs: Over The Road Racing' of racing games. It's the original 'Final Fantasy XIV' of the prestigious RPG franchise. It's the 'E.T.' of retro gaming. The 'Balan Wonderworld' of platformers. It's the 'Sonic '06' of the blue hedgehog's adventures. And 'The Angel Of Darkness' of the 'Tomb Raider' series. In fact, I'd much rather listen to Pink Floyd's 'Ummagumma' on repeat all day than... okay. I'm done now. 1/5
I don’t care how “not country” this is. It’s country, and I don’t like it.
