5 stars. Just a great album.
I stan.
Eminem at his peak. There's definitely a nostalgia component to my rating, but his two first albums blew my mind, and are what got me into hip-hop.
Didn’t listen
10/10 Masterpiece
Its Fantastic.
The lyrics describe violence in great detail. I find it ironic that Lynne Cheney used her senate position to pin societal violence on musical artists. Did she rail against the Iraq invasion, that killed hundreds of thousands, and ultimately turned out to be based on…what? Who advocated vociferously for that action? 🤔 Did Lynne Cheney advocate for any sort of gun control to stem the violence? Background checks? Metal detectors everywhere? Mental health resources? Anything at all? I’ll wait. Maybe the above is a case of whataboutism. In fact it is, but like many culture war subjects, the manufactured outrage distracts from real ills/solutions and falls flat. I view the lyrical content through the lens of an artistic expression of Eminem’s inner fantasticized feelings. It’s like he let the world in on his therapy notes while putting them to hook-y beats. It’s offensive as hell. So are the Piss Christ and political rally speeches. I could do without the over the top misogyny though. Kim is one track that is very difficult to listen to. I usually skip it. One thing is clear to me though, Eminem is the most creative hip hop lyricist I’ve heard. His ability to string words and phrases together is unmatched. The guy is a genius.
5/5
It's one of the more controversial albums on this list. I can see why some people hate it. However, I'm one of the fans of this album. Eminem's lyrical ability never disappoints me (apart from one moment after 2004). I also have no doubt that "Kim" is the most disturbing song on the whole 1001 album-long list. 5 stars for "The Marshall Mathers LP".
This is truly a classic hip hop album. It’s a little more serious in tone and content than Eminem’s first record. It’s introspective, emotional, violent, and aggressive. It’s easy to see how this isn’t for everyone, but there’s a reason this record has sold over 25 million copies, and is one of the best selling albums of all time. There’s a lot of lyrics that certainly would not fly today in the mainstream, but this is absolutely a product of its time, not that it wasn’t insanely controversial at the time. I can understand how one would consider a lot of this album to be childish and immature, but I think it’s far more complex than that. It’s hard to not love the contrast between Dido’s beautiful singing and Eminem’s devastating storytelling on “Stan” I also love Bizarre’s feature on “Amityville”. It’s hard to overstate just how influential and important this record is. 5*
La violence de certaines pièces est dure à encaisser. Ça témoigne du talent d'Eminem et de ses producteurs pour la mise en scène et la narration. Sans compter que son débit est plutôt hallucinant. Un chef-d’œuvre, je dois le dire
An absolute masterpiece with plenty of bangers but damn listening to "Kim" is brutal.
heel nice, ik vond Kim wel heel ver gaan, en ken kaniff skit was ook een beetje overbodig. 9/10
Oh man, I remember when this album came out and I undoubtedly played it quite a lot. Most of this album is a reaction to the reaction to his first album, as well as Eminem saying all sorts of ridiculous things now that he had a very public forum to do so. Yeah, tons of misogyny on here and it is hard to celebrate too much when so much of the album plays out like a horror movie in musical form. I always found it interesting that he put "Stan" as the second real song on the album since it is so down-tempo and very different from all the other things that Eminem had to say and couldn't wait to say. In part, this is a time capsule album and I really don't like ICP so a lot of the misogyny directed towards them is not acceptable but was a part of the beef at the time. This album is a "separate the music from the person and the person from the things he says in the music" type of album. Eminem had a forum for his most angry and somewhat introspective thoughts and he was in no way going to waste it.
It's eminem. It's his early days. Of course he's offensive. It's fucking eminem. He didn't get that rep by being a choir boy. The way I am perfectly summarizes him. He says goofy ass lewd shit and gets blamed for the world's awful things. As if we are not responsible for our own actions.
Ironclad flow, beats that make it impossible to not nod your head and lyrics that still manage to make people upset after 24 years. What a follow up to the Slim Shady LP.
I was 13 when this came out and got it for Christmas from my parents - not sure I was old enough to listen to it in hindsight, given the lyrical content. Nothing is off limit as Eminem seeks to shock throughout - rape, murder, homophobia, drugs, school shootings, and more No denying what a great songwriter and rapper he was at this point, the lyrics constantly throw up incredible wordplay and the storytelling is incredibly vivid. He's capable of intricate flow and the album is packed with hooks in nearly every song, that make it very immediate. Dre's beats are great as usual without overshadowing the rapping. Some of the songs are pretty hard to listen to, in particular Kim, so I suppose I give 5* on the basis of he was going out of his way to shock by saying some of these things as opposed to actually wanting to do it. Mission accomplished, you gotta say
The Marshall Mathers LP is a powerful album that showcases Eminem's lyrical genius and raw creativity. The rhythm and flow of his words are masterful, creating verses that are both thought-provoking and hauntingly vivid. Each track pulls you into Eminem's world, where he doesn't hold back—he's raw, authentic, and unfiltered. However, this album carries a significant undertone of anger and darkness, which, while intense and impactful, can also feel unsettling. Eminem’s storytelling here is both brutally honest and emotionally charged, exploring themes that many artists might shy away from, and he does so with a fearless, almost cathartic energy. As someone sensitive to the vibrational energy of music, I found *The Marshall Mathers LP* to be more of an emotional deep dive than an album for uplifting vibes. It captures a particular mood brilliantly, but it’s not one to play if you're looking to raise your spirits. Eminem has created something raw and unique—an album that, while not lighthearted, holds an undeniable place in the hip-hop world.
Dark but fun and nostalgic
Good
Listened to it with my ears, enjoyed it, although the skit of him getting sucked off by a couple of blokes was a problem, I was so turned on it distracted me from the rest of the album a bit. 8.5/10.. 9 without the erection interference.
10/10 for Nostalgia alone. Felt like the epitome of music when I was a kid and still love it all. I remember singing Kim as a kid and the public service announcement in front of my dad. Still holds up, from story telling to wordplay, peak Eminem
Another world changer. Almost beyond criticism.
Rating: 10/10 One of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time. This album is simultaneously shocking and thought-provoking, Eminem speaks his mind in a one-of-a-kind way that was later imitated many times but never duplicated. Incredible flow, lyrics, wordplay, and production, this is a hip-hop classic. Favorite songs: pretty much all of them. Worst songs: Ken Kaniff, Kim.
I can't believe this project makes people listen to Kim. That track messed me up as a kid. But man this album is great. Insane, but great
One of the greatest rap albums ever recorded its was a game changer his storytelling ability and how he connetcs by rapping legibly although fast as fuck while following a coherent line of thinking and chronological order and time stamps. Know this album top to bottom and back again. Perfection at its top level.
A classic. The production from Dre and Em is impeccable. A lot of hits. The lyrics deserve to be explored
Shit man white boy really can rap Also my first time seriously listening to em and its good
21/10/24 I enjoyed this more than I thought i would.
Nice to revisit this masterpiece. While I still hate “skits” in albums, there’s no denying how amazing and influential this album is and what it did for Detroit.
This album is still a banger. Slim has some of the best lyricist style and flow ever.
I haven’t listen to this in a while but it’s still a great album if you like this kind of music. Stan is still one of the best and famous storytelling songs in rap imo. Eminem turned 52 just one day after I received this entry - nice coincidence!
Amazing album
Classic
loved it. I got the slim shady EP a few days ago, and this one feels so much more "mature" like he has his own style figured out, and it's such so special.
I had listened to a few tracks from this LP before and had really enjoyed them, so I was expecting to give this album around a 3, or maybe a 4, but by the 8th track I knew I had to give it a 5. Firstly, the album is coherent and thoughtful (I'll come back to this in a second), it's a dark reflection on Eminem's childhood, relationships, and dealings with fame, all of which I thought were well done. The edginess and transgressiveness album did throw me off at times, and it obviously would've aged better without it (specifically much of the homophobia and misogyny), however on specific tracks I think the abrasiveness works really well, like on Kim. Outside of that, I enjoy the amount of character the album has while also being lyrically complex (as in rhyme schemes and patterns, not lyrical depth). As for the lyrics themselves, I found they were very hit or miss (in terms of humor), and more often than not a bit cringy, but not so bad as to make any song unlistenable -- exception for Ken Kaniff, I usually enjoy skits in albums and enjoyed the ones earlier, but this actually yanked me out of my listening experience and was unbearable to listen to for the few seconds I did. Despite all of that, I would still say the album tells a great story (Stan and The Way I Am really stand out here) with some angriness and abrasiveness that does manage to work really well on certain tracks, for every cringy moment (which there were a lot), there were moments of deep introspection, decent humor, and great word play -- overall I would give this album a weak 9, no less and no more.
Peak
Emotive.
Em taught me a lot about life at a very young age. I thought he was pretty cool, growing up. What did I know, I was a kid and he was loud and nonconformist, daring to do and say shocking things angry kids can only fantasize about. His songs are still amazing. But now looking back, I have the mental ability to recognize this the impact of this album in the golden era of rap misogyny and glorification of homophobia. For Em, I can easily trace it back to his mommy issues, to being bullied, and to growing up in bad environments.
hell yeah
There are just too many good songs from Eminem
L E G E N D
One of the best rap album of all time.
Damn, this is a great album! I didn't expect this list to acknowledge any actually great albums, this one stands above like every album I have rated for at least 2 weeks. 5/5
Pure freakin genius. Often disturbing, but still genius.
- war früher schon mega Eminem Fan und immer wieder, wenn ich ihn höre, weiß ich auch warum - absolute Banger dabei (man kennt natürlich auch schon einiges davon), einfach ein hammerAlbum, love it!
The first few Eminem albums are incredible. The use of persona and alter ego, the samples used, the lyrics and the delivery are all top notch. What a start to the millennium
Important, crass, and catchy.
On the one hand this album has aged like milk, even if Eminem moved past this juvenile edgelord phase a lot quicker than his fans, it's a pretty shit legacy. On the other hand it's so well executed. Incredible talent. The storytelling in Stan is so good it changed the English language, Kim remains to this day the most lyrically uncomfortable song I've ever heard. 10/10 A highly flawed and dated classic
That man can deliver the longest sentences!
This may be a nostalgic rating. I’m not sure how many Eminem albums are on here but this is the one I will always direct people to start with.
Best Eminem Album. Most of the songs are good, not filler -- compare that to his modern albums where there's 1 good(ok?) song for an hour of fast foward fuel.
So many big hits from Eminem's early catalog. Amazing rap album, one of the GOATs.
Just a masterpiece to be honest.

Favourite Song: The Way I Am
MMLP holds a special place in my heart. This came out when I was 9 years old and highly impressionable. Up until this point, I had next to zero exposure to rap, but The Real Slim Shady bled into alternative rock stations and changed my perception of music. Obviously, I didn't follow, much less understand the lyrics, but I knew the beats were fun and the delivery was catchy. I remember asking for an "M&M CD" for Christmas that year... Needless to say, I did not get it, and I'm kind of glad for that; an edited MMLP would be nearly pointless. I am completely biased by the impression this album had on me. That said, I know I am not alone in my reverence of this record. Sequencing start to finish is wonderful, with great flow of energy -- often juxtaposing up-beat with more somber (e.g., Kill You > Stan, Who Knew > The Way I Am > The Real Slim Shady). Classic Dre production is often minimal, but highly effective and distinctive. And Em just flows around everything, jumping from open sneers (Who Knew, I'm Back, Kill You), to outright anger (The Way I Am, Kim), and bombast (The Real Slim Shady, Criminal). He was limber and topical with an ability to showcase his humor as well as demo writing in a more introspective (Marshall Mathers, The Way I Am) and narrative format (Stan). A few posse cuts sprinkled throughout only elevate the album; always a pleasure to hear Snoop slink around Dre beats (Bitch Please II), and Em interplay with D12 (Under the Influence). This is an easy 5 from me. I will say though that nothing hurts my soul quite like having grown up through prime Shady and watching him release album after album of awkward, cringe-inducing attempts to recapture that former flame. This album is a good reminder of where it all started.
Such an intense album with some amazing classic songs Slim Shady and Stan. Like his first album, the skits and interludes add so much to the story telling of the album. The emotion that must have gone into writing this whole album is crazy. This is my first time listening to it all the way through and was blown away. Absolute classic of an album and an easy 5.
This album makes me want to burn someone’s house down. Em is unhinged in the best way possible. Lyrics, flow, humor, beats - has it all. Stan is arguably Em’s best song ever. Drug Ballad is his sexiest. Criminal is criminally underrated and probably my most played song from this album. Play Kim at my funeral.
Amazing but messed up
Just great! A true classic
All these years later, "Kill You" and "Kim" are just too dark for me to listen to, but the rest is straight fire. "Bitch Please II" is one of my all-time go-tos for getting amped.
Less 'crude' production than his debut. Really love this split personality with Eminem, Slim Shady and Marshall going on. Has an edge to it with songs like Kim that probably drew in a few Nu Metal/ alt kids
A savage rap album from one of the masters of the art. Interesting the way this album can cross between fucked up/ shock rap, while also covering some real shit and making you think and reflect sometimes. Why do we like Shady’s music? Perhaps it’s morbid curiosity. What’s he going to say next? Will I laugh, will I feel sick, will a sneer? will I nod to the beat no matter which? There’s some musically identifiable reasons - it’s technically impressive, sometimes catchy, cohesive, it tells dark horror stories of a psyche affected by poverty/violence/mental illness. Somethings are harder to put your finger on, but this is a really fucking good album.
5 stars for nostalgia... Favorite track: real slim shady other picks: stan, the way i am, i am back
I'm not a fan of hip hop. Melody and harmonic progression are my favorite parts of music and I find mechanical performances unmoving. But brilliant works of art transcend genre and are recognizable to even the uninitiated and the ignorant.
So good
Top 5 all time. Hog got me this on wax.
is anyone else getting the vibe that this guy is a little off his rocker?
Probably not Eminem’s best album but I love it anyways. I know some will find it extremely offense (and it is) but sort of his whole alter ego schtick is how offensive can he possibly be and not get banned and as he says in one of the songs, the worse it gets, the more money he makes. There are some great bangers on this record and some good memories. Bitch Please II, the Way I am, and the Real Slim Shady are all great memories from years ago. Stan is an absolutely brilliant written story song that points the finger at those who think lyrics relate to violence through very personal experiences. Like most of his catalogue, I love the album
I would give this 10 stars if i could. This album is nothing short of magnificent. Not for the easily offended due to the explicitness of the lyrics. It is theatre set to what is brilliant music. Intelligent rap, brutal but so raw and emotional. Left me in complete awe after listening. Wow.
Fantastic album. Eminem introduced a unique way of rapping and became a legend. I once heard him somehow make many words rhyme with Orange….who else can do that? This album, like all of his music, is so personal. It’s not just about bravado and self-promotion, it’s about life through his eyes……with a bit of humor. There’s a reason he is one of the best selling artists of all time. Plus, being from metro-Detroit, I love how much positive light he puts in our region.
lyrical genius
I shouldn’t have been listening to this at a young age, but his music was definitely a gateway to listening to more unconventional music. Classic.
Great
Some of his best stuff
Probably shouldn't have given the Shady one 5 stars, kinda have to inflate the following ratings a little to match. But, well, this is still fantastic.
One of the greatest albums of my generation.
Although his content may be objectionable at times, Eminem is just an extremely talented individual. He has clever wordplay and a keen sense of meter and rhythm. I hadn't heard most of this album before but was impressed by the material and use of guest stars. I didn't really expect to like it so much, though I guess I appreciate it more than like it.
Yeah it’s good
Never really listened to much Eminem outside of his massive singles but found this to be a really strong and consistent album front to back. While I was already familiar with "Stan" and "The Real Slim Shady", I was struck by the intense emotions of "Kim", the haunting production of "The Way I Am", the lyrics of "Amityville" and the catchy hook of "Criminal". Honestly enjoyed this much much more than I expected to, so I'm giving it a 5.
Despite being really big into Eminem when I was a kid, a front to back listen of this album had still somehow escaped me for some reason. Upon listening I think my favourite would still have to be The Slim Shady LP, but I can absolutely understand why this is the acclaimed album. Songs from this record make it feel like he must have made them years into his career and fame as opposed to about two years after he became well-known in the mainstream. It's ironic that he's become the artist that he's become (seems like he's doing better as a person though), because this album drips with self-awareness of who he is, his space in hip hop, and his place in the musical zeitgeist in an almost soothsayer-like fashion. Just awesome stuff, if listened with context in mind as a LOT has changed since this album came out.
Very good!
So turns out despite how distasteful his lyrics can be I really loved this album. So many hooks and fun beats. Funny and cringey and sad. I think he didn’t like his ex very much
🐐! The third track, Stan, is probably my favorite of all Shady tracks!
Fierce and kinda gross, “The Marshall Mathers LP” by Eminem is a great album. Eminem uses this album as a platform to respond to a lot of criticism he’s received about his race, grotesque imagery, and other controversial aspects of his career. The impact of Dr. Dre on this album is quite noticeable but Eminem owns it and makes it his own. Overall, a very impressive album.
Parts of this are really shocking, but it's a great listen and I really enjoyed it.
Rap is not usually my genre, but this is just really, really good stuff. The rhymes and flow are so incredibly creative and tight, and the character work by Eninem is just awesome. The production quality was just flawless and everything was just amazing. I will listen to this again, right now. Five stars.
Iconico, costruito perfettamente, già ascoltato più volte. Ha in fila 'Kill you', 'Stan'; poi 'The way i am' e 'The real slim shady'
Sick
Fucking love it! 4.5
What an album. Nothing like this before or since. Do I agree with a lot of the things he says? No. Do I enjoy the creativity of the guy? Absolutely. I'll never forget hearing Kim for the first time in the common room, actually blew my mind. Music wise the production is incredible, buttery smooth and the rhymes are fantastic (just take everything he says with a massive pinch of salt)
- “The Real Slim Shady”: banger, as expected - “Amityville”: more unknown, really good - “Kim”: harrowing, incredible storytelling - “Ken Kaniff - Skit”: kinda gross, ngl

Some dark lyrics but this is the best work from a rap genius.
sick production stan so good I like the vocal performance of eminem throughout, esp on the real slim shady ok hes acc a good rapper guys
really fun to listen to!! i liked that there was a sort of storyline throughout the whole thing, it feels like a complete album. lots of classics i knew already. defo will listen again. scratched my brain.
Absolute classic
Is best album but not my favourite
Eminem at the absolute top of his game. Wildly offensive and silly, but great rap album.
absolute classic album
oh, eminem... it feels unsurprising for me to like this album as i'm a white guy but hey, i liked it and i think that's all that matters. eminem can be very vulgar and VERY shocking when it comes to the material he raps about, so if you can't handle that sort of subject material i would highly suggest staying away. this album isn't just mindless shock value fodder though, it's full of real life experiences and frustrations from his own point of view, growing up and seeing the harsh realities of life and dealing with rabid fans.
4.7
The OG of Not Giving a Fuck.
Brilliant ablum. One of my all time favourite. Will never tire of listening. Absolute masterpiece
Ahh good old Shady. Lyrics written with the intent to piss off your parents and instrumentals done by Dr. Dre. Anything that man touches is gold.
Ez 5
Best white rap album
This is my first five-star. I always (perhaps irrationally) expect an album to tell a story. Marshall Matherd tells a hell of a story. I almost feel bad, but easily can imagine, Eminem compromising with record execs to make that disclaimer at the end. His non Stan role in Stan (a song that changed the language) is how I imagine him to be. And maybe that’s a character too. The others are sad detestable characters. But to condemn them is to condemn any other creator of well-crafted villains. I loved this album, and I’ll come back to it like a favorite read.
Unmatched
I said a few weeks ago when we had SSLP that I couldn't give it a 5 because the Marshall Mathers LP is 5/5 territory for me, and so it is. I know this album inside out, back to front, cover to cover and all that, listened to it back this morning just to see if it hit different, but this is the very best of Eminem in all of his personas and guises. It's him at his lyrical best - arguably nobody before or after him could match the level of dexterity, ingenuity, aggression and pathos - and it has strong collaborations and massive hits, so much so that I can forgive all the unnecessary skits and Remember Me, the only weak track on the album. The Way I Am and Marshall Mathers are among his very very best works, Amityville and Bitch Please II are incredibly underrated in the overall catalogue (particularly his last verse on Amityville), and as much as The Real Slim Shady is overplayed, it pretty much captures the artist and the era in 5 minutes perfectly. I do often wonder whether I should hold it in such reverence given a) the unpleasantness coursing through it and b) the Kim track, which is genuinely harrowing and chilling but also a somewhat impressive feat of song-making at the same time, but this was the soundtrack to mine and many others' year 2000 and it's every bit as impressive nearly 25 years later.
Really good
Bringing the 90s back.. wait early 2000s!
Nieuwe albums zijn beter 3/10.
One of my favourite hip-hop albums, then and now. Flips between funny and upsetting and silly and (slightly) political, while sounding like a congruent piece. Outstanding.
Eminems' tongue in cheek lyrics designed to create controversy, combined with Dr Dre beats created an album that took the world by storm. I loved this back in the day, but now some of the lyrics are a bit problematic. I'm torn between giving this a 4 or 5 star rating because of that, but I'm going for 5 due to nostalgia.
Grew up with this one - still takes me back.
This is Eminem at his peak, none of the immaturity of the Slim Shady LP, none of the lyrical miracleism of his recent stuff, just a really solid and well done record with very few faults. Falls off a lil bit around The Real Slim Shady, but comes back extremely hard after the skit. My faves in no particular order: Stan, Kim, Bitch Please, Amityville.
An absolute masterpiece. We know that Eminem is a born lyrical genius, but with this record he goes next level and flips you right off, whether you are a fan, a media person, a parent, or just anyone who expects too much of him or doesn't understand his creative, but admittedly extremely violent character he crafts for his music. With two all time great and iconic songs 'Stan' (which has got to be one of the best 'discussion/story-based' songs ever) and 'The Real Slim Shady' this album has very strong foundations, but there is so much more. 'Kill You', 'Stan' and 'Who Knew' is a really strong trilogy in the beginning, which sends two clear messages: 1) Eminem doesn't care that his lyrics are extremely vulgar and violent, you are gonna need to live with that because he's fucking great anyway. 2) Eminem doesn't care who you are, if you are 'scared' of his music and take his lyrics too seriously, you are not welcome. (Ironically many reviewers do just that, and I can't say I blame them, because he is just too fantastic at using nasty words and putting them into gruesome context with extremely unique and creative rhyming and rhythm-forming) The rest of the album is basically a children of these core messages. The middle third is a bit weaker, but the last third is great again, the album closes at a really high level. I also have to mention that the skits are great, I love it when an album has skits that are actually good, and add value to the story-telling.
The GOAT
This is one of the best rap albums of all time. Eminem is one of the GOATs. There is really nothing else to say. Highlights are The Way I Am, Kill You, Bitch Please Part 2, and Criminal.
9/10 Very monumental piece of eminem Where it's lyricism is very raw and genuine The production fits the theme of the album where eminem suffers a harsh reality With eminem's edgy persona and display of profanity and harsh words and racial and gender slurs It brought about a birth into a iconic figure of the rap genre
1. Kill you - Violent lyrics, deep bass. Pain. 2. Stan - sad, about death and people fall through the cracks, fans. 3. Lawyer expressing concern and giving up. 4. Who knew - Violent. Consequences of fame. 5. Steve Berman - Music rep pissed at violent content. 6. The Way I Am - Dealing with fame. 7. Real Slim Shady 8. Remember Me? Themes include violence and rebellion, acquiring fame, and the consequences.
Masterpiece
mí bichito siu siu caramelo de chocolate el bicho es haci haciendo mil abdominales pero que el bicho es as
I'm in love with this one
Mhhh Eminem
It’s an almost perfect hip-hop album. The skits slow it down and in the current landscape of the world feel SUPER outta place. But fuckin’ a does every song absolutely bring it. Too many bad jokes miss but the actual general consensus of the album has to be that this is where Eminem transcended in the conversation of best rappers alive…at that time. Dre’s production is absolutely insane for the record.
Awesome.
The best rap album of all time.
Man this album is so sad😆 All of it just makes me sad tbh but ig that’s kinda what it’s designed to do. And the beats and grooves are so good that sometimes I was just boppin’ along and not even realizing the terrible sad stuff he was rapping about😂 I can’t find anything wrong with this album other than all the Vicodin
I could totally get into some Eminem this morning! Dido, is so cool. Stan samples the intro to her Thank You song. And Faithless used her a ton in their music. For being a guy who doesn't typically like rap, I really do like Eminem. He's so talented in my opinion. 5 stars.
1/19/24. As a little kid I remember how controversial and crazy this was to the point where my parents made their best effort to censor this album from me. Still to this day, this is near rap perfection in terms of talent and perfection.
I was pumped to see this as my album of the day. The whole listen was like a nostalgic trip.
goated. Stan and The Real Slim Shady. Every song slaps. Skits being in albums are still so weird.
The best possible introduction to the world of hip hop. It has it all, and it's excellent at it all. Over time, the persona would eventually consume the artist, but at that point in his career, Eminem was simply unbeatable
Favorite Tracks: Stan The Real Slim Shady Kill You
קלאסי, דרך האלבום הזה הכרתי את ההיפהופ. אין על אמינם
5/5
Best rapper ever
Such a slay love how raw this man can be 9/10
I'm not a rap fan normally but I do like Eminem: great story telling, amazing wordplay, catchy music. The delivery is humorous, powerful and thought provoking. A great album from a great artist
Wow 23 years old. Weirdly i still know a lot of the lyrics to these songs, don't know if that's a good thing but really enjoyed it at the time and it still sounded great. This album is all about the lyrics and their delivery, the music is ok. How to descibe, Mysgonstic, homphobic, and just damn right nasty. But also funny, stupid, idosyncratic, self effacing, ironic and at times thoughtful. The genius of the guy is exposure, we are witness to an unfiltered stream of concious sometimes cartoony sometimes sublime. But it's his wordplay that makes this great, the absurd viceral worlds that he creates and takes us to, with twists on meaning and syntax are genuinaly incredible. Because he uses hiself as the subject it makes it feel as though it's morally problematic and it is. But that's the point it's not an album that says im great, but one that says I'm fucked but the world is too.
Ahh ich liebes! Ich weiss Eminem isch scho biz overhyped aber da album mit Stan und real slim shady isch eifach so legendary rap. Jede wo was anderes als 5 Sterne seit; fight me!
A classic that changed the rap world. Maybe the material is outdated today but the beats go hard and Em is spittin' bars. It's not my favorite Eminem album but what a precedent this sets, what it must have felt like hearing this when it first came out. Eminem is a legend.
Classic!
Early Eminem is some of my favorite rap so this one is going to be a winner in my book.
Favourite tracks: kill you; Stan; the way I am; real slim shady; under the influence; amityville; bitch please II; kim

This is my youth. Sadly.
Banger
another artist who passed me by bc I was too young to appreciate. damn it is good.
This is a good one. I know it from many morning car trips to middle school about ten years ago
HOLY SHIT i was OBSESSED with this album for a point in time. sometimes i have to grin and bear the presence of slurs, but other than that, i absolutely ADORE this album. stand-out songs are "stan," "the way i am," "i'm back," "marshall mathers," "drug ballad," and "criminal."
Unbeatable.
Know some of the singles but cant remember ever listening this album start to finish
stan is my favorite rap song
Chef's kiss. \"Who Knew\", \"The Real Slim Shady\" and \"Marshall Mathers\" are so good.
Lots of memories from my childhood. But it does feel childish
Grew up listening to Eminem so having this album pop up was very nostalgic. Listening to this album as an adult made me feel all type of feelings. Great album. Great artist.

Listened many, many times over. Revisited a couple of years ago. Some of the humor hasn't aged the best but his lyricism, flow, and wordplay is simply unreal on this project and I can't help but still find myself laughing at times. Unless we're on Kim, Stan, or Whatever You Say I Am. The venom he spits at critics and pop culture icons of the time is intense.
This is ACTUALLY an album you have to hear before you die. Even if rap is not your thing, this album is flooded with undeniable talent. Eminem really knows how to tell a story. I'm still impressed by the creativity this man has.
Un tournant dans le monde du rap.. Un des meilleurs albums des années 2000: Kill you Stan The way I am The real slim shady Who knew I'm back Under the influence Kim...
Muss ich mir anhören, der Anfang gefällt mir sehr
Loved it
Love me some old Eminem.
Tror detta är den skiva jag lyssnat flest gånger på i mitt liv, med ganska stor marginal dessutom. Mästerverk.
Angry and offensive Eminem was the best
Goat 🐐
Summer 2000, Leah’s Camry, high school anthems. 20 years later, pretty offensive, this album would not get made today…hah. Em will always be a 5/5 for me though.
Gets better and better
Awesome album, known it for years and definitely one of the greatest
A masterpiece. Offensive by today’s values and standards but an amazing accomplishment of lyrics and beats nonetheless.
That's funny, we got this album generated on his bday. First thing that catches the eye is rhyme density combined with insanely good delivery. It still sounds fresh (and this is not nostalgia speaking, I'm not an Eminem cultist (or wasn't) and hadn't heard half of these songs before). Bitch Please II is an absolute banger, perfect in every way. "Kim" is such a creative death threat. Is that even legal in US? Trying to imagine myself in Kim's place, I have no idea how to react. What a display of domestic abuse mastery! That aside, the song is strong, the overflowing emotions make it so very believable.
peak
This is the Eminem that shocked everyone; the dark lyrics and aired-out-laundry that are so depressing that you don’t quite know what’s true and what isn’t, and if it isn’t then why would someone bare this? The complexity of emotional depth is what drew me into him as a kid, I came for the comedy rap and stayed for the heavy themes, ones I would not understand until I was an adult, or ever for that reason. Eminem had such a realization of his place in rap, he knew how different he was from a typical rapper, not just skin-color, but raw style with trailer park description and crippling family issues. This album had peak Eminem techniques - outrageous lyrics, sadistic themes, funny lines, depth of story telling, and incredible flows. Verse 3 of Who Knew is a good example of the outrageousness as I write this. Then by the time The Way I Am comes on, it’s just unreal how raw and commanding his rap is. It’s infectious. When The Real Slim Shady arrives, I find where I discovered Eminem as a kid. A song full of ludicrous and taboo rap with a tight beat. I was stunned by it and it definitely introduced me to a new genre of music. I loved it and the couldn’t get enough of Slim. The second half of the album certainly continues on the themes of calling out his critics and enemies, and gets over-the-top at times with the felatio Insane Clown Possee skit. The songs explore his darker side sometimes in a depth that is hard to follow, and I would say this is the albums biggest detractor.
Liked it a lot. It's a pretty unfiltered, uncensored album, which I appreciate a lot in this day and age.
Легендарный альбом. Stan и the Real Slim Shady крайне хороши, остальные песни неплохо их поддерживают. По ощущениям, альбом чуть постарел, но он все равно слушается хорошо. Достойно 5 звезд.
Iconic
Meta album. Tragic rap opera. Disturbing and triggering. Complex. Five stars
Good
G!
Absolutely amazing album. If he never dropped another album after this, he’d be talked about top 3 all time.
So hard to rate this album. I was a teen when it first came out and it was a big fixture of my life for awhile. The talent and quality is still evident all these years later. And yet it is terrible and awful at the same time. I ended on 5 stars simply because of Stan. Very few songs have the capacity to not only tell a story but tell a story that can create a giant emotional response in a span of only a few minutes.
Excellent
I already had listened to this album, as I am a big fan of Eminem. But having the chance of hearing from beginning to end once more, was a really pleasurable experience, and it revived some good childhood memories.
Pretty brilliant, offensive, strange, vulnerable
Solid album. Takes me back in time, good coming of age album by him
Eminem's finest era
Remember listening to every song on this album multiple times to the point where I remembered every song
Only a few songs that aren’t exceptional. Kim is still the most fucked up song I’ve ever heard. Surrounded by brilliance, potentially the best hip hop album of all time.
Didn't get a chance to listen today but I know the album slaps
5/5 no doubt but is extremely hard
The "relevant reviews" section on the app is pretty long for this album. Loads of other reviewers cliked on that "like" button, either for 1/5 reviews or for 5/5 reviews. Eminem still get people "reacting", more than 20 years after his heyday and commercial breakthrough... And here I am giving this record four-stars-and-a-half, in spite of the dumb homophobia and 8th-grade "jokes" on it. First, speaking merely in terms of "essental" albums, you just can't NOT have this record in the list. Its cultural impact matches its selling numbers, and you can still sense the ripple effects of what Eminem has done here today. And secondly, this record is a hell of a (hellish) ride, musically and lyrically. Musically, this is the apex of Dr. Dré's typical productions from the early naughts, and the Jeff Bass contributions are equally good overall. "Criminal", " The Way I Am", "The Real Sliom Shady" are absolute bangers, but the deeper cuts are all ear candies as well. And lyrically, well... Other reviews in the "relevant ones" section wonderfully explain the whole concept of *The Marshall Mathers LP", its whole "Is he serious? / Is he not?" ambiguity, (some of those reviews even pointing out how said ambiguity tells a lot about the state of 'Merica in those years). I'm not even gonna attempt to add anything about all this, just read those great takes out there. You'll soon understand which reviews are the bright ones. And listen to the album. For me it's just an awesome cinematic experience. And even if it wasn't, Eminem's technical abilities as a rapper is like constant fireworks for me. His hectic pace, his delivery, his outrageous wit at times, his impersonations... Love him or not, he changed the course of rap music with this LP. Hence why he had to be in this list. Number of albums left to review: 544 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 221 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 105 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more essential to me): 132
Takes me back to my youth.
Fucking crazy
Goat
Playing to the crowd here, but, DAMN. This is iconic. This is where we found out that MM had absolute bars and he was something different. This was the record that got me into rap and hip hop and so much of this shit had me just SIDEWAYS. On I'm Back, where he goes in to the whole tirade about JLo, jesus. GOAT bars. It's definitely early Em where he was still super chaotic and all over the place but most of the tracks some 23 years later hold up like crazy. Maybe it's nostalgia, but this is an absolute banger. Outside of the silly skits and the problematic language, which he rectified by buying Elton John some diamond cock rings and proving he evolved, this is easily my favorite MM album ever. And that's saying something. This was full on formative. GREAT SHIT.
so good
I love Kill You, Stan, Bitch please 2, and Marshall Mathers. The real slim shady is a classic. The public service announcement is hilarious.
Top notch
Well first of all, we notice that it's named after himself, instead of his notorious alter-ego Slim Shady. It's definitely more personal than Slim Shady LP, making this even nastier. Another is the cover, the dark and bland color scheme it has which is a sharp contrast to the comical bright blue cover of Slim Shady LP. It's darker and edgier. Because of this, The Marshall Mathers LP is quite a ride. It has Eminem's signature violence, the misogyny, the homophobia, etc. It contains much of his biggest overplayed hits like "Stan" and "The Real Slim Shady". And of course we get the stellar Dr. Dre driven production on top of it. Mixed feelings overall. But I can definitely see why this is considered as Eminem's best and a classic. Maybe the production piggy-backed it all, it's Dr. Dre after all. How could you kill him and lock him in your basement, Marshall?
A great LP
Eminem is my favorite rapper of all time and this is one of his greatest masterpieces. His wordplay and rhymes are top notch. The artist features are all legends and compliment the songs well. The constant misogyny and homophobic slurs are harsh to listen to. He is the greatest rapper alive and well dedicated to his craft.
The misogyny really popped off with this one 🙌 Reminds me of elementary school, my mom always let me play it on her CD player and I apparently didn’t know what a single word of it meant 🤷🏻♀️ Perf album tho
This album bring me back to my childhood! Listened to this album way too young! Had my babysitter show me the My Name Is music video and after that I was hooked! Also growing up in Detroit this was all over the place! Incredible album, Eminem is an incredible artist!
Classic.
It's not possible to listen to this in 2023 without recoiling from what was considered perfectly normal in lyrics. This is the supreme rap album of all time though. The tightness of the words over the music, the genius of his phrasing, the fun and the craziness of the singles. It's the finest example of its genre and still blows a storm.
An iconic album for the genre that is quintessential Eminem
Hi marshall
Eminem establishes himself as one of the goat rappers with an accessible yet highly aggressive and smooth vocal delivery capable of expressing all sorts of emotions, keeping his cool and honest persona at the forefront. His lines are clear, fast, passionate, and poetic, capable of telling intricate stories and dialogues with such natural emotional delivery. The skits are funny and serve a necessary purpose, and the tracks flow seamlessly from one to the next, especially impressive considering the extensive length. The music itself is labeled as horrorcore and is probably the best example of the genre, full of minor key synths and piano melodies reminiscent of horror movie soundtracks and dark cabernet, with influences from industrial and reggae in the beats and effects. Tons of creative devices and samples used to make each song memorable, always something new to noticed on repeated listens. Tons of hits, and most of the songs are essential (again, very impressive with its double length).
"The Marshall Mathers LP" is the third album by American rapper Eminem following his hugely successful "The Slim Shady." This album was even more successful debuting at #1 on the Billboard charts. It was produced by Dr. Dre and Eminem. A lot going on here. The music is defined as horrorcore, hardcore hip-hop and satirical. Yep. The word transgressive work was also used which I had to look up and is a work aiming to outrage or violate morals. Mission accomplished. The lyrics are introspective with thoughts on his rag to riches, criticism of music and the music industry and estrangement from his family and wife. Lots of controversy as the lyrics taken at face value are violent, homophobic, misogynistic and mentions Columbine. Is he being satirical though? Many critics find this album to be Eminem's best. An announcer introduces Slim Shady as a guy who does not give a fuck about what you think and is going to kill you in "Public Service Announcement 2000." That rolls right into "Kill You." A slow beat and repetitive keys. A song about his struggles with his mother. A sinister laugh and Slim is still going to kill you. "Stan" uses extremely effective sampling of Dido's "Thank You" giving a haunting feeling matching the lyrical content. And the lyrics detail with obsessed Eminem fan Stan who repeatedly writes him detailing his life and struggles with his girlfriend and other chilling things. The story does not end well for Stan. Brilliant song. The second single "The Way I Am" has repetitive tubular bells and piano with the beat. Great authoritative rapping. His negative impact on the youth culture. "I Am Who I Say I Am." Creepy and amusing keyboards highlight the first single "The Real Slim Shady." A great repetitive chorus. "Please stand up, please stand up." He pokes fun at Brittany Spears and Fred Durst among others. The music on "Bitch Please II" sounds like it's directly off of Dr. Dre's "The Chronic" as well it should as Dre as well as Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg and Xzibit take part in the rapping. And then we come to "Kim." Christmas bells open which goes to the Exorcist theme (I see you "Tubular Bells" connection) to chaos. It was supposed to be a love song to his girlfriend Kim. Well, he struggles with his wife, he is going to hit his wife, can't live without his wife and eventually kills his wife. Ahhhh, love. I'm exhausted. There's no doubt to the brilliance of Eminnem's rapping, lyrics and music on this album. A very busy album. However, you interpret it, it's a trip worth taking at least once.
A stone-cold classic.
Maybe not his best work, but certainly up there, cracking lyrics and delivery, great beats, still sounds good to this day, has aged well, although it's very dark in places.
Damn classic. By buying this record, you are in fact, kissing his ass.
Hoo boy. I'll never forget the first time I heard a song by Eminem. A friend of mine in my geometry class let me listen to "My Name Is" on his Discman, and my head practically exploded. I'd never heard anyone use language like that, and I was cracking up at the crass things Eminem was spitting out at lightning speed. This was my first time listening to this particular album, and it's amazing. Eminem's rhymes and flow are absolutely insane. I just can't fathom what it takes to be able to rap like he does. The subject matter on this album is insanely dark, but Eminem has so many different ways that he uses to convey these themes. The beats on this album are incredible as well, and it's insanely well produced. I don't listen to a lot of rap, but Eminem's beats are instantly recognizable to me, and I think that takes an immense talent. Since most of the other reviews mention it to some degree, I guess I can't talk about this album without mentioning the homophobic, misogynistic, and violent content of the lyrics. A lot of the lyrical content here is pretty uncomfortable to listen to. I think a lot of the more offensive content is spouted off by characters/personas that Eminem has invented, but that doesn't take any of the edge off of it. Is it okay to play the role of a character who says words and phrases like this? I don't know. When we have visual movies about cultural tumult (World War II, The Civil Rights movement in the U.S. etc.), people being represented on screen often spout hateful rhetoric, and we generally accept it, because it's historically accurate, and history is often a long road of terrible deeds that come from terrible thoughts and words. Is it okay in this sense too? Homophobia and misogyny were clearly alive and well at the time this album was recorded, and people who held these types of views were certainly thriving as well, and in my view, that gives these lyrics an unfortunate realism. But what does it mean when someone can create personas like this? Ultimately, I don't know how to feel about art like this. I think this album is incredible as a piece of music, but I don't enjoy listening to things as dark as this.
Legendary album
eminem sendo eminem. album sensacional!
A pretty violent album containing so many of Em's classic hits, including "Kill You", "The Real Slim Shady", "The Way I Am", and his best song (IMO), "Stan". I guess it's not for everybody but I think it's a great reflection of his difficult upbringing. 10/10.
The definitive Eminem. This album made him a legend.
Grand
classic em
Terrible language and attitude. But the music! A masterpiece!
This album has like eight + slappers and is peak eminem. It pains me to let you know: I like this album.
I should dock this album. Slim’s shtick should come off as cringe and the casual homophobia, misogyny and ableism should make it unlistenable. But no, this is still an all-timer. The elements that date it only make him sound dangerous in an almost charming way, and when he’s not dropping the f slur, Em’s delivery is impeccable. The features and beats are largely incredible, too. A
My interest in Eminem basically evaporates with most everything he put out after this album and 8 Mile. The shock value stuff plays more absurd today, but probably works better as humor now then it did in 2000. Maybe the 1-2 punch of Kill You and then Stan does enough to deflate the Slim Shady character as just that, a character. Or maybe it is because Eminem's sense of humor never really was successful on the albums following this becoming just way to cartoony. The three gigantic singles on the album are still the highlights and I think this album is the highpoint of Dr. Dre's second act as a producer. He's got a couple more years with some big pop hits, but after In Da Club, even the Eminem singles he produces are pretty lame. Who Knew is my favorite album track and lays out the Eminem/Marshall Mathers/Slim Shady ethos pretty clearly (along with having a chorus that I get stuck in my head at least once a month even though I don't think I've heard this album at least in 15 years), which maybe is the magician revealing enough of his trick. Amityville with Bizarre and Under The Influence with D12 are the most over the top ridiculous songs that it is also hilarious to think of anyone taking anything on this album seriously at all. And Bitch Please II is a pretty great west coast (+Detroit) posse cut. Eminem as a producer doesn't have many tricks in his bag but here they're fresh at least (which combined with his interest in fancy MC skills instead of actually having something to say probably explain why I haven't really cared about any Eminem album or even really songs after this specific era). Listening to this album again, in a time where I've adopted the "all public life is performed and therefore there is kayfabe outside of just wrestling" mindset. Kim is interesting as a theatrical piece, but other than that is just gross not only because it uses real names. But maybe he needed to remove all audience empathy from the character in '97 Bonnie & Clyde. That all said, I couldn't stand the hate slurs used back in 2000 as a 13-year-old and they're still awful in 2022. That is something that dates this album more than anything else (including the very 2000 pop culture references). It would be just as good if not better without them. Eminem is creative enough to do that. This might be a classic hip-hop album, but unlike some of the other all-timer LPs, it is always going to be locked in the year it came out.
Classic. Amazing. Iconic. Love.
One of the greatest ever to do it. Dark with some humour in thrown in. Obsessed with it when I was younger and proper enjoyed listening to it again after yeaaaaaarsss.
This is the first album we have had so far that had the biggest impact on me. This album took over my school, it was the talk at footy and all my mates. My poor mum must of felt sick walking past my room one day and hearing ‘Kim’. Eminem just came out of nowhere for me. I looked at the charts and in 2000 the top 5 albums in the UK were Robbie Williams, a greatest hits for The Beatles, Westlife and Moby. Just full of pop and here comes this fella who’s performing in jumpsuits and hockey masks, rapping about killing the mother of his kid and telling kids to do drugs and rape sluts. I genuinely believed that Eminem was really a nut job when I was 10 years old and he almost had some boogeyman persona. I love this album and always go back every so often and now realise just how funny it is.
I know little of rap but this is seriously engaging. I'd listened to it before for another 'Best Album' poll and it was lurking waiting for a relisten. Still disturbing and in your face. For me this is the best.
One of the best rap albums
Phenomenal album. He went up another level with the next album but I can still remember listening to this and thinking this guys legit. Yes, some of the lyrics are troublesome in terms of homophobia and misogyny and I'm ok to seperate the art from the artist but I understand if others cannot as it's hard to listen to at times. Stan and The Real Slim Shady get most of the attention but there isn't a bad song on the record. 5 Stars.
GOAT
It’s funny cuz at the rate I’m going when I’m thirty…this whole bag of Viagra isn’t working… It was funny when I was 20; it’s more dead-on now that I’m 40. Such a high-water low-brow album. Also, probably the best horrorcore album of all time. I love it all.
Loved it! Brought back many memories.
Masterpiece.
bought it when it came out.....love it !
It was great back when I was a teenager
Unfortunately, this album is great. It's true that 90% of the lyrics have not aged well in the slightest but it's also true that almost every song is catchy or interesting. The real slim shady was one of my favorite high school songs and stan is a great song about obsessive fans but Kim is like the most violent song I've ever heard and homophobia and misogyny run rampant throughout the whole album. This has led me to a dilemma where I want to rate this album a 5 because I like almost every song but I also don't because I'd have a "guilty conscience" lol. Whatever fuck it
Love it, already knew a lot of the songs but some had slipped through the crack. I'm just happy I got to hear them
It stands up after 22 years. It's still one of the most consistent rap albums ever, and tries a bit of everything consistently. Some of it has aged very badly, mind. Kim, in particular is very uncomfortable to listen to. But it's still great.
This is the third album from American rapper Eminem produced by him and Dr. Dre. The album is transgressive - which means it seeks to outrage a listener with themes that are opposite of basic morals - and features introspective lyrics surrounding Eminem's life, including his rise to fame, his personal life troubles, and the public's criticism of his music. As is the norm for Eminem's music, the album was surrounded by controversy, but this only propelled the album's popularity, allowing it to debut at number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and stay there for 8 weeks. This LP was a critical and commercial success; it's certified 11 times platinum which awards it diamond certification, won the 2001 Grammy for Best Rap Album, won the 2001 Grammy for Best Rap Solo Performance with track "The Real Slim Shady", and is widely regarded as Eminem's best album. With dark - even gruesome - lyrics riddled with swears overtop heavy bass lines, Eminem is able to produce something beautiful and eye-opening. It's easy to criticize this album as homophobic, misogynistic, violent, nihilistic, or everything in between, just based on the subject matter. However, Eminem is a master with words and he's able to spin the verses on their head to make them sound amazing, while the words - singled out - can offend thin-skinned individuals. Fortunately most of the album was left uncensored, but the censored version is almost impossible to listen to with all of the muting and injected sound effects meant to cover up any bad words and lines. Eminem has many lyrics on this album that poke fun at the people critical of his rapping, and he even admitted to purposefully going overboard on this album for the critics. This album is like a train crashing into a car. It's chaotic, loud, unsettling, perhaps even gory, but above all - you can't look away. If it wasn't for Eminem being a lyrical genius and having some awesome hooks and rhymes, this album would not have performed so well. But when one is as dedicated to their craft as he is, then it's only normal for it to be popular - as well as controversial. This album continues to appear on lists for Best Albums to this day and that goes to show how great this album is. I highly recommend this album to anyone, but it'd be best if the listener is at least over the age of 14.
I've listened to this album so many times throughout the years. Classic "modern" hip hop album (not really modern now as it's 22 years old). Eminem and Dr. Dre's production for this album is insanely good. There's so many awesome tracks. Eminem's flow, rapping and lyrics is hard to beat.
Catchy, funny and irreverent as fuck, this is one of the best punk albums. It makes you laugh not just because Eminem can be hilarious but because his rhymes and deliveries are often quite ingenious and brilliant. Dre's production is great as well, his steady bass riffs contrasting with Eminem's mercurial flow and occasionally creating an almost polyrhythmic feel.
I don't even care, I love this album. Eminem is hilarious and bitter and performatively goofy and disconcertingly honest all at the same time. I wish the first hip hop album this list showed me wasn't by a white dude but that takes nothing away from the Marshall Mathers experience. Tip: listen to Stan and The Way I Am as companion pieces.
Amazing album all the way through! The lyrical genius of Eminem with a lot of other great artists. This has been one of my favorite album since high school.
Dope
Classic
Didn't expect to give a 5 but here we are
Only one rapper can make a horror film out of a hip hop album. The lyricism is so vivid and imaginative, you visualize his words as he raps and rhymes his words like no one ever. The album has top botch Dre production, with several of Em’s massive hits. It is a classic, his best album, and a staple in hip hop and horrorcore, the genre that made him iconic.
Textes fous, interprétation malade, production de feu.
Vraiment solide, mais la chanson Kim... oh mom dieu.... 5
Ahhh Marshall Mathers...a name I haven't heard since... Well since he fucked my dad to death. It was the eve of my 15th Birthday, the usual crowd gathered round my parents' house for nibbles and drinks. Eminem swaggered up, pants riding high and jeans around his knees. Without any thought or hesitation, he'd pushed my dad into the pantry and rode the dick off him until they both bled.
@SHACK #bingo
Brilliant album.
Nego branco
The lyrics are a lot more messed up than I remember, but this album slaps as hard as it did back in middle school. Another 5 for nostalgia.
The Eminem Show was the album that got me into rap as an impressionable pre-teen, so I may be biased, but I still think that's the more consistent, better album and it's crazy that it hasn't made this list. Anyway, this one is close behind. He switches between so many voices (literally and figuratively) so effortlessly - the biggest singles (Stan, The Real Slim Shady, The Way I Am) sum up Eminem's depth, humour and anger respectively, and they all work equally well. There are undoubtedly lyrics on here that are genuinely problematic, but there are also a lot that aren't - they're cartoonishly OTT or satirical or playful -and that's why he gets away with the whole package, in my opinion. Every topic is pushed to its limits, but it's not *just* designed to shock - there's a lot of truth spoken too. So the lines between sincerity and facetiousness are blurred, which just makes the whole schtick (or is it...?!) very compelling. 4.5
I wonder why a couple of the tracks are unavailable on Spotify. Outdated lyrics? I expected this to sound much more "of its time", but nah. Still absolutely love it. A great intro to hip hop for a 12 year old middle class white boy, but I reckon there's something for everyone in here. Ending to Kim is still too grim to listen to. I always skip over it
Packed with trailer rage and raps like never before seen. An early and incredible success of an album. A modern version could cut out like 3 or 4 tracks, but it still slaps.
Gets a little hard to listen to after a while but that's more of a matter of taste. I love a lot of tracks on here and the skits mixed in are hilarious, eminem is one of the greats
Gawt dammit I actually really love this album.
Eminem. I really loved Eminem as a teenager, the Eminem Show is absolute genius. This album shows him on the way to that and it is a fantastic album but I think his style got cleverer with subsequent albums. This album is in places difficult to listen to but I do get the reasoning behind it all and I think it's very good. The political edge of Slim Shady is very interesting and this album seems to be wholly about Eminem attracting mainstream attention at being a white man rapping when his black contemporaries had been doing the same thing for ages sparks very true and is evident in the fact I loved Eminem and he made it so big in the UK when no one I knew of was listening to Dr Dre or anything similar.
Timeless hip hop album
9.5/10
Great album, goosebumps...
Best Eminem album. He is at his insane, creative best here. Good beats. Good features.
It's Eminem, pretty much every person's stepping stone to hip hop and rap. Everyone knows at least a few songs on MMLP, The Real Slim Shady and Stan to name a couple. There are gems all around too, with Criminal, The Way I Am, and I'm Back being the most memorable. The production and the beats on this is fantastic and makes a whole album of a genre I'm not a fan of really enjoyable. It might not be one of those albums that can be played anywhere anytime, but it's definitely an essential listen.
Imprescindible de Eminem
chaotic over-the-top horror
absolute classic. eminem was completely in his bag w this one
Old Eminem best Eminem, 100% goated
Favorite album
Who Knew isto, ma i Real Slim Shady, ma sve jebote. Ako se osvrnem ovako, rekao bih da je ovo njegov najbolji album. Šteta stvarno što nema da se rejta do desetke, jer ne bi bila čista desetka, al bi bila jaka devetka. Luka's ranking = MMLP > TES > SSLP > Relapse > Recovery >> Encore >>> ostatak.
violently beautiful
Stan is haunting and The Real Slim Shady is a classic. The rest don't even matter - those make it lights out.
I think maybe the fact my parents wouldn't let me listen to this when I was in middle school only made it age better.
Good album, maybe a little intense on friday morning.
Just an all time great hip hop album
Good album but super homophobic and misogynist - something that feels rather aged in the post-me-too era. But damn that was a trip down memory lane in the early 2000s - I didn’t listen to this album back then but it’s just a perfect snapshot of that particular time. Which is why it’s an album one must listen to- and probably not love. It’s a tough one man’s screwed up thought roller coaster that has no place 20 years after it was released but at the same time it’s a perfect Time Capsule. It’s a pendulum swing between brilliant and horrible.
Amazing album. So lyrically quick and finding the perfect phrasing all the time. Top of his game
5/5 - love this album
Ready to listen again and again
A total step forward from his debut - lyrically brilliant, amazing production, dark, twisted, funny - a proper hip hop masterpiece
Still stands up. Still stands up
I said the Slim Shady LP deserved to be on the list, but honestly, I feel like this record accomplishes the same thing but better. Like the second season of a show that was good to start, but really found it's groove. Same rage and shock value, but better music.
would probably hate this if it was released today, but came out when i was an angry 16 year old so it holds a massive place in my heart
Grande Marshall

Timanttia. Itselle ensimmäinen rap-levyhankinta ja kuulostaa vielä vuosienkin jälkeen erittäin hyvälle 👌
FIVE STARS. Standouts: Stan, The Way I Am, Kill You, The Real Slim Shady, Kim.
