Reviews (page 6 of 14)

A little wacky, a little weird, but oddly enjoyable. Favourite Track(s): Lullaby Least Favourite Track(s): Prayers for the Rain, The Same Deep

A wash of sound and pain. Sounds like a bruise on your ego. Don’t listen to it when you’re already sad.

Notables: - Lovesong

Had a lot of songs that I’ve heard before but had no clue they were on this album. Love The Cure and the indie/gothic feel. Just gonna rate it 4 stars because I liked it and I’m not sure what I’ll be comparing it to in the future.

A surprising collection of instrumentals.

Lo volvería a escuchar

A couple of good songs most of them unnesesari long with introducción that made them hear alike

I guess it’s the week of The Cure. As a follow-up to my previous review, I still haven’t decided whether I’ll attend the concert. What I can say is that this time the atmosphere matched the weather outside. It was a rainy and gloomy summer night. The wind was blowing, and Robert Smith’s lyrics pierced straight through me. It’s a complete journey, and the opening track sets the tone perfectly. This time, the album feels far more consistent, with only a few minor hiccups that barely matter in the grand scheme of things. It’s the kind of music that makes you reflect on your choices and your inability to truly let go of the past. Without getting too philosophical, one of the questions the album left me with is whether the old days were really as good as I remember them, or whether my growing numbness to the present is simply making me romanticize them. The existential dread is palpable throughout. This album reaches some incredible highs. For me, they are "Lovesong", "Prayers for Rain", and "Homesick".

Loved the beggining, then it's just melodrama. 3.5 actually

This one found me on the right day. It's very good but could easily be a 3 or 4

Me encantó. Soundtrack kind of feeling. Mi fav: pictures of you. 8/10

This is good, because it's the cure, but it's not *quintessential * cure for me.

Fantastic fantastic voice, Smith has further developed his knack for terrific hooks and beautiful melodies. "Lovesong" is incredible but "Pictures Of You" may be his magnum opus. Great stuff

- instrumentals at the end of prayers for rain changed me - was kind of iffy on the album until last dance (i did a FULL 360 after) - love love love the intros on all the songs - the voice crack on the same deep water as you was peak yearning (+the thunder was an amazing effect) - disintegration felt like coming home - beautiful end to the album, felt very fitting - overall: 4/5 (1 star off for the beginning) BUT i have a feeling will be 5/5 after 2nd listen

saved 7, shelved 5, left 1. really nice instrumentals, some not so great lyrical parts.

Aside from the fact that Robert smiths voice has never really done it for me and there is a bit of a wall between me and this album I've always felt, it is gorgeous. and I'm giving it a 4 not a 3 because I can *tell* it's a grower. A little like the sigur ros it pulls me in with this huge drowning instrumentation, very hypnotic. Standouts: I have to say Lullaby. Because I've never known a song so sinister and genuinely skin crawling, and I mean in the literal misophonia-triggered way caused both by Smith's whisper vocals *and* the haunting lyrics - that still sounds so GOOD. I also liked lovesong, disintegration and homesick a lot.

My rating 3.8. The Cure at its height.

Dark, groovy, hypnotic, and about twenty percent more cheerful than I remembered The Cure being.

Oh Robert Smith how I missed your sweet sweet serenity of your voice on my gentle soul... It has been far too long since I have heard The Cure and even longer since I have heard Disintegration in full. I forgot how long winded this album is and remembered why that makes it such an amazing listening experience. Every song feels like these dreary raindrops running down your face but it feels like the most amazing thing in the world. It is glossy and shiny as it showers you in these blissful soundscapes that no one has really been able to replicate as well as The Cure did back in '89. For this song being as long winded as it is, the sound here is so addicting. This slow burn of an album slowly unravels itself to reveal this beautiful portraits thanks to some of the most beautiful instrumentation I have heard in quite a while. Each instrument serves a purpose in decorating this painting with such rich textures and colors. You can close your eyes and truly see the world Robert and Co. are trying to create and I admire that so much. While not every track hits equally as hard I do have to say each time I hear this project it has been growing on me more and more. Maybe in the near future this will crack into my 90s, but for now it is a damn good project that everyone should try at least once. There is so much I could say but it seems like just about everyone and their goth parents have already touched on it at least once or twice, they all collectively say this album is a masterpiece in terms of Gothic Rock and the culture itself and that you should totally hear it once. I completely concur it is a classic, but at some future point I will surely dive into The Cure and see if it still stands as the band's best project. Sadly today is not that day, but I promise it will happen in the near future....

this made me realize I actually really like the cure

Pretty good as a background music, I listened to it as a background. It has something

Classic for album #1.

listened to this staring at my ceiling in the dark and the vibes were immaculate

I like the Cure, this album in general, but dear God I really don't want to because I find stuff like this insufferable. The fact that I am aware this is a major paradox makes me feel conflicted and akin to people I associate with being fans of the Cure and Robert Smith. Am I one of them? If anyone needs me I'll be listening to this album while trying to remember what my trainwreck of a college relationship was like...especially the part right after I got dumped because that's what this album makes me remember.

A masterful dream pop release that revels in drawn-out repetition and vastly stretched sound layering. The 72 minute runtime may seem daunting, but there really is not a moment to be cut. It's a definitive release from the decade.

A weird flavor of Pop Goth that is just so alluring in what it brings to the table. A lot of love for the long mediations. A great album.

Like I said in my review of Seventeen Seconds last year, I always liked (most of) The Cure, but never owned any of their records except for one comp. So I'm looking forward to this one, especially since it was characterized as a return to their earlier, Goth-y sound. This record gets better and better as it goes along, becoming more intense and mesmerizing; the title track is great. I actually think that the least interesting songs on here are the two I’m most familiar with, Lovesong and Pictures of You. That’s probably partly novelty bias about the rest of it and also that those are both more conventional songs, and I tend to go for stranger things.

Good Cure

Me gusta mucho la canción pictures of you.

My favourite Cure album (The Head On The Door) isn't on the list, so this will do. Liked Songs Added: Pictures Of You Lovesong Lullaby Fascination Street

Annoyed at the sky for being blue when I got this album.

“Lovesong” and “Pictures of you”. Great album.

Gets a little boring. Songs sort of run together at some point, all of the guitar/bass/synth tones are the same throughout. Not a fan of Smith’s voice. Great songs.

way more my speed never really thought about how "dark" this album is sonically-- much heavier than i usually think-- probably b/c Pictures of You is such a "bright" song background effect on title track 10/10

Its slow but it works

last dance and lullaby aren’t my favorites. the rest is excellent. like a cold dark blanket.

Love me some 80's synth pop with a bit of spice mixed in. You can see the amalgamation of their previous genres meeting and merging at a crossroads with this album.

An incredibly atmospheric and moody record. I saved almost the entire tracklist because the production and the dark vibe are just amazing. It's a bit long and maybe a bit too heavy for everyday listening to be a perfect 5, but still a brilliant experience.

I think “A Forest” by The Cure is one of the best songs ever made, but this album is certainly a pleasure to listen to as well. Four stars...

Listened on: Spotify Listening experience: Interrupted but managed on the same day Loved this. Have never listened to this album from start to finish. So pleasing to listen to. I didn’t know any of the songs other than the hits - Pictures of you, Lovesong, Lullaby (these must be on the greatest hits album which I have). Will listen to this album again for sure.

This a great album from the late 80's. It's a return to the Cure's classic goth-alternative roots. Pitchfork: 10.0 [Deluxe Edition reissue] Rolling Stone: Top 500 Albums #116 Best Songs Pictures Of You Lovesong Lullaby Fascination Street

My appreciation of the Cure depends on the day. Sometimes the drone of the vocals and the heavy 80s influence leaves me a little bored, but other times the dark undertones and creativity with vocal and guitar effects completely draws me in. On average, this is a 4 and often plays like a 5 for me.

Once you stop treating this as conventional music with a singer and a band and all that and instead treat this as an atmospheric album with occasional lyrics, it actually is good - if not great. The only thing keeping me from giving it above 4 stars is the length. I'm not sure the vibe justified an 1 hour 12 minutes of play time.

Godfather of the alternative rock scene.

Pretty Decent

This started as a 5 for me - I liked the music l, the lyrics and the vibe. But halfway through I started to fade into an abyss of sadness and ennui

Rob, could you lighten up a little?

This hits even on a beautiful sunny spring day

Top of the mountain for this band. Lovesong is one of the finest (pardon the redundancy) love songs ever written.

*1989. *This is the Cure I like the best - still moody and brooding, but leaning a little poppy and mainstream. *Some classics, like Pictures of You and Love Song, as well as plenty of other good stuff. *The last few tracks drag - 72 mins is too long for this album. *Will definitely revisit, as the Cure is always in the rotation for me. RATING - 7.5/10

I’d be lying if I said I knew more about The Cure than their biggest singles. But what I do know of them, I think is great. Robert Smith and his bandmates’ talent are on display here and I thought this was a consistently engaging and interesting album. Perhaps I was in too good of a mood today to fully enjoy the angst and melancholy on display here, though.

it seems many ppl on this website are middle aged british people so let me put this in a way you guys will understand: love da cure, simple as

i loove the cure!! i really enjoyed listening to this album from start to finish. gloomy, feely, gothic, beautiful...

Loved it — it’s dark and dramatic but in a really pretty, hypnotic way, and once it locks into that slow, rainy groove it just carries you the whole time.

I adore the album in its totality, tracks like Plainsong and the Fascination Street are quality goth rock

Synthy

Great album. I have nothing more to say about this one. 4/5

Having been a big fan of The Cure during the Boys Don’t Cry, Seventeen Seconds, Faith era, I took sporadic interest after The Top. I enjoyed the singles and loved Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me but then Kind of ignored Disintegration. So a pleasant surprise to hear how good it sounds all these years later.

I'm not as familiar with this record as I am their earlier material. I am generally biased towards the earlier material, just given my exposure to it, and the fact that this record came out while I was working my butt off in graduate school and wasn't listening to new music at the time. That said, there are tracks on this album that really hit for me, both when I first heard them and on subsequent listening. I had a copy of "Mixed Up" and some of the best tracks on that record are from this one.

The Good: Who doesn’t like to break things into little pieces? The Bad: Unless it’s our feelings… of course… The Ugly: My Robert Smith halloween outfit… This could’ve been a 5* album… but it is too down… just a little too broken down… into little chunks of sobbing mess… in a corner.. with smeared lipstick… and washed out eye-liner. Strangely enough, I could’ve sworn that this album was older than it is. Thought it was 83/84-ish… what the hell do I know? 1989 is when I was starting my new life, college bound… the world at my feet. No need for downer music—if you know what I mean. Anyway, I did have plenty of friends back then who were totally into The Cure, which lead to me listening to most of this album in bits and pieces. Listening to it now, I am gently reminded that time flies… and that sobbing in a corner, though all fine and well for a moment, should be avoided at all cost. Still, what a fucking great album this is! 4* that should be 5*

A collection of a long slow songs that actually works for the most part. The songs do feel a bit samey and I did feel some fatigue near the end. I think I would prefer these songs on their own rather than listening to the whole album. I would be more tolerable of an 8 minute track if it was not squeezed between a 7 and 9 minute track. Still though, the music itself is very good and I enjoy listening to The Cure; they might just be better in smaller doses. Favorite Track - Pictures of You Least Favorite Track - The Same Deep Water As You ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

curou onde doia

Review - classic. Score - 8/10 Need to listen? YES

- Wasn’t expecting to enjoy this as much as I did

So good, despite the songs being incredibly long. Really enjoyed the feeling of the album as whole, melancholic and romantic.

The best album from the Cure

i like it when i am sad overall, quite charming

I have to be in a certain mood for something so long and brooding, but when I am this can be pretty special.

Not sure what it was about this but it seemed so emotive and engaging. All the way through the first two-thirds especially I was enraptured, it seemed to both be dreamy and hard-hitting. The album was long and the songs did become protracted closer to the end so it became more about trying to squeeze it into my day than about enjoying it how it was meant to be. All instruments seem to work so harmoniously. I don't really know much about The Cure, but I'm glad I listened to this album.

Pictures of You Lovesong Lullaby Fascination Street Disintegration

Deliciously moody.

I own this album and one I have always enjoyed. It is full of notable songs and its strength lies in the slow build of a lot of the songs that just draw you in deeper and deeper. For some this is a negative of this album. For me, this is the positive. Pictures of you will always be the standout song. Everything about it is absolutely fantastic. 4.5 stars

pretty good especially if you're emo, his voice can get a little tiresome from being whiny... but multiple iconic songs here nonetheless

Just so good.

big fans in this bakery!! 4.5 for minna 4 for isaiah

This is probably a sacrilegious thing for me to say, but I think sometimes the songs drag on too long. Do we really need multiple minute long songs that are made that way just from the intro alone? Anyway, now that I've gotten all my complaining out of me for the day, I do really like the vibe of this album. I like the songs on individual levels a lot, and I don't think I would mind the length as much if I were listening to them in a playlist instead.

The Cure never stick with me but it’s me not them.

Coming from someone born in 1995 and listens to a variety of music but prefers a shuffle as opposed to a set album, I enjoyed this THOROUGHLY. The orchestral sounds and vibes to this was above and beyond. 10/10

I am liking this more than I thought I would

Big production. I like the cover of Lovesong by Wyldest more. Pretty good songs thought. Great guitar hooks. A bit dull in the last quarter.

Joya absoluta del alternativo

The first part of the album is really good, it kind of lost me in the middle, but the end really brought me back. 4.5/5.

Better than I remember.

Dreamy and dark, easy to listen to, but the songs seem a little repetitive at times. Still good stuff.

I'm late to the party on the Cure, some 40 years late. I really like this album dark with pop melodies

Pure gothic bliss. Plainsong may be one of the best album openers of all time. It isn't the best song ever just the perfect song to open this album with. They do a great job creating such a dark and gloomy atmosphere but break it up perfectly with a few catchy pop type songs. And I found Prayers for Rain on this play through, heard this album many times but never really paid attention to that track. Man I missed out on that one, better late than never. I am not a fan of the end of the album, those last 2 tracks would have been better moved to the middle or cut from the album. The songwriting is good but just didn't feel like they fit with the rest of the album for me.

The cure is Goth as good as it gets.

yasss goth boys fuck it uppp

Really solid album. I don’t think the cure is typically my thing, but this album had great songs and atmosphere throughout. My only complaint is the length as I felt it dragged a bit. I’d give this a 4.5 if I could.

Melodic

Late 80s pop goth goodness

The songs on this are so absurdly long but they sound good so I guess it’s okay.

why yes x

I love the vibe that brings in every song, i feel it with everything, time, weather, places, or even clothes, so, it's a good album for a band that I never listen before.

Great bar makeout songs

Liked a few songs, very nice and easy to listen to 🙏🙏

Really enjoyable if songs too long.

Late comer to the Cure but this is a top notch album

some of the vocals and lyrics are eye roll worthy, but overall this is an impressive album. i will be retuning to this one

Great record, highly recommend. But it's not for every occasion and works best at night

I like it , it's calm, kind of ambient, with some interesting bass lines. I liked Disintegration song best this time.

Surprisingly cool!

Esoteric, brings out all the feels. What you'd expect of a Cure album!

i adore the cure but this is not my favorite album by them so i can't give it a 5

Theatraal

Very good album which is right down my alley!

Some absolute classics very good 👏

This album had some strong vocals and instrumental work, especially good baselines, and good production. Some of the songs near the end really drag on and stay past their welcome, but overall it's a good listen.

The Cure really have a problem getting to the point. When I was listening to Pictures of You, I actually checked to make sure it wasn't an instrumental version. Geesh. A decent producer could easily edit this album down to a 5.

I really like Plainsong and Lovesong. Plenty of other good tracks. This album definitely defines a mood and sticks with it.

Like it.

well constructed, not sure if i'd listen to this again or listen to any songs individually, more likely to listen in full than separate i think the drum parts and basslines are incredible, im less interested in the vocals and guitar phenomenal late night drive soundtrack, good music for chilling out and havinf something on in the background - i would play this on vinyl while i hosted composition is good and the ending song is strong so probably like 3.5/5 but i will round up

Love this album, great 80s cure. Could have more variation but a great influential goth classic

Magical af album. Go watch South Park season 1 episode 12 to tell you all you need to know.

Disintegration feels atmospheric and immersive, with a strong focus on mood and repetition. The overall sound is rich and sometimes dramatic. Fascination Street stands out with its memorable bassline, while Pictures of You is more melodic and accessible. I like the album overall, but it’s not always easy to listen to.

Well, this is the first album on my project. I’m not very well acquainted with this genre, but I enjoyed my time listening. I thought it was very interesting that the lyrics carried so much sadness, regret, etc. but you really didn’t “hear” it in the instrumentals. The music was, in my opinion, too relaxed and often even a little energetic to convey the idea on its own. Despite that, I came away from the album thinking, “wow, that was pretty sad.” My only gripe was that sometimes the songs really felt like they were dragging it out when I already got the message. Maybe that’s the brainrot talking, but I’m going to trust my gut on this one; not long enough to be seriously egregious, but just enough to make me think, “okay, this is taking a while.” That’s probably a part of it, though: maybe sadness takes a little longer than you’d like. Maybe you put on a happy face when the emotions beneath are anything but. Maybe your voice is choking up, but you still need to get something out. Favorite Song: Last Dance Least Favorite Song: Lullaby

I think this album was very good I like that if was a bit melancholy

Genuinamente algunas canciones me transportaron. Faves Fantastic album! 4/5

Very beautiful throughout. Good music.

I love this album! There’s plenty of songs I adjust listen to regularly on this album, and a few more that will be added to the rotation. Was nice to finally listen to the whole album!

Like the swing, most of it is super cool, but a few song are a bit unnecessary in my opinion and kind of drag the thing. Great, yes but not a no skip by any mean

Loved this-inventive, thoughtful, punchy

A tad overproduced but a gripping way to pass half a train journey to Leeds.

Very good. The guitar tones are chef's kiss.

It Feels so good to discover a new band and its actually great ....I absolutely loved it. 4.5/5

Overall a good album

I’ve never listened to Disintegration in its entirety and although some of the drawn-out intros got a bit tiresome it was well worth it.

Dreamy and classic! What’s not to like!

I had never listened to this one before, but I knew the singles. Very entertaining album all the way through.

Basically perfect til the last 4 tracks that drag on for a long time with less compelling melodies. I feel like the album could have been sequenced differently. But that is a minor qualm really cuz this is an awesome album. Just can’t give it a 5 when I’m bored for like 20 min of it.

Лучшая песня: Lullaby Худшая: Pictures of you Мне больше нравится постпанковый Cure.

Despite my normal aversion to this style of male singing, I enjoyed these listens a lot and found myself saving a handful of songs. Not sure where they fit into my library and future listening, but it's a cohesive project and emotive.

Damn good ass shit brotha

4.5 - OG GOTH. I was in Mexico city with a close friend and we were walking and head Lovesong playing from some rooftop and the most beautifully accurate voice to Robert Smith to the point where we thought it was him and we seeked out the noise and found the building and went and paid a cover charge and then it turns out it was a REALLY GOOD Mexican cover band, but it did solidify this album's place in my heart forever <3 Fav Songs: Plainsong // Pictures of You // Lovesong // Lullaby // Disintegration

Is it weird that I really liked this?

Me gusta The Cure en pequeñas dosis.

A situationally perfect album. If, however, you're not feeling particularly depressed on a cold & rainy Sunday afternoon, it's a little less impactful.

This was great. It would probably be a 5 if I was sad.

Really good to be fair

Some cracking tunes

I feel like this is one of those albums like The Dark Side of the Moon or Abbey Road where I can see exactly why everyone loves it but I really struggle to call it an amazing album. It's a great album, one of the better Goth Rock albums of the late 80s, but certainly not one of the best albums of the 80s. The atmosphere on the album is great, though. I love the crazy amounts of reverb on the drumset and the synths give the album a really spacey feel. Really my big thing about it is how much the album trails off the further it goes.

Guardadas on first listen: Pictures of you, Lullaby, Fascination street & Homesick

No private session used for Spotify. I like The Cure, this album has a couple of Cure classics on it, but this a complete and wonderfully composed piece of work.

It was different from what I usually listen to. But the songs in the album were deep and meaningful, kind of like the feeling you get when you are overthinking about something or someone

some songs definitely overstay their welcome, but i enjoyed this.

Prob the best of their albums.

I am probably on an island here, but this album is great. There are so many great songs and if I was a goth kid in the early 90s, I would have eaten this up. Still my favorite cure album of all time. Best listen if you have some old school headphones. 8.1/10 Favorite song Lovesong But don't sleep on pictures of you or any of the other classics on this album.

Not too bad!

Really enjoy the Cure. A better Morissey?

I loved the first half of this. The back half drops off and if I'm not paying attention still gives a great atmosphere to just exist within, however, if I AM paying attention, it gets a little slow.

I think this album made me finally understand the Cure, in that this is incredibly sad and dramatic but also compelling. It’s too fucking long but other than that I really enjoyed it

Amazinggggg !!! A classic is a classic when after more than 10 years it stills hit like it was out yesterday. It lives through time.

Album 1073 of 1089 Disintegration - The Cure (1989) Rating : 3.5 / 5 This one feels less like an album built around individual songs and more like a mood that stretches across the entire record. It’s dreamy, slow-moving, and very atmospheric. The music kind of drifts along in a way that creates a space rather than constantly trying to grab your attention. It actually made for a pretty relaxing start to the day. The sound is soft, layered, and a little hypnotic at times. It’s easy to just let it play and settle into the background while you sip your morning coffee and ease into the day. The whole thing feels very deliberate in that way. It’s not flashy and it’s not really trying to deliver a bunch of punchy individual tunes. Instead, it leans into creating a certain emotional tone and staying there for the duration of the album. For me personally, that worked well as a listening experience this morning. It was a nice, calm listen and I enjoyed the atmosphere it created. At the same time, it’s probably not the kind of album I’ll find myself reaching for again very often. It feels more like something you visit when you're in a particular mood rather than something you play regularly.

7/10 the singers voice is good just not my cup of tea the actual sounds of every song were great

If this album had ended on Lullaby, I think I would’ve given it 5 stars. I loved the melodies that dominated each song, and its overall relaxing yet not-boring tone. However, in the second half of the album, it unfortunately did become boring. Such a shame, but I have to dock it some stars for that.

I’ve listened to a couple of albums before that felt similar to this one, but this was probably the best of this sort of “atmospheric rock” thing. I especially liked the effect that the unique drum sound/mixing added. Favorite Track: Closedown

Album 71 Top 3 favorites off the album: Untitled, Disintegration, Lovesong The nice thing about listening to The Cure is that you get a nice mix of chill and otherwise not-sad sounding instrumentals with lyrics that range from wistful to the type of thing that makes you stare at the wall reliving the lowest of the low moments of love and heartbreak for the entire duration of the song. This is a spring or early fall album; I want my car windows to be open and the days to be cool and longer while I'm listening to it. I already like The Cure, so this is a pretty easy rating for me. I'll try to be fair, though. I didn't like The Same Deep Water As You as much as I hoped to based on the title alone. I don't think it was solid lyrically. I'm the right flavor of sad for Untitled to hit just right. Sound-wise, I think the album flows well. Like I said, I like The Cure, nothing really grated on me. I completely fell off reviewing while travelling to visit grad schools, but now I am back. These will likely be even shorter than usual as I catch up, but I'm okay with that.

The Cure make great music. All there is to it

BANGERRRRRRRRRR i love plainsong and lovesong and fascination street all amazing songs and the rest of the albums too were sooo good i love them. sometimes a bit too repetitive but in my eyes just a sign of musical cohesiveness. its a bit darker than their usual stuff like a bit gloomier

дуже похмуро, подобається, але є кращі альбоми the cure. fav song: the same deep water as you

Great chill album which can be listened to in a mellow mood or when you're spiralling.

I like some of radioheads material but it is not on this album. Too much whiny

This plays well into The Cure phase I’m currently going through

Return to dark and gloomy, of course I like it Pictures of you Lovesong

Beautiful album, had only heard about 1/2 of good album before - better than I expected for sure

really liked it

Came in hot, but lost some steam in the saggy middle. Still great atmospheric shit!

Nice chill oldschool vibe

Softer rock than I thought it would be. Understated grunge guitar, with a rhythm guitar always carrying the beat, little bit of synth in the back, but it is less flowy and more choppy. Sounds like 80s vocals on 90s grunge music. Kind of a crossover between the two eras.

From my initial opinions of the little I had heard of the cure I really expected this album to be much much darker. I did not remotely expect the theme throughout the first half of this record. While some descriptions of this album describe the openings tracks as “synth heavy funeral marches”, I could not agree less. The first half of the album contained some of the most HOPEFUL and audibly mesmerising chord progressions I’ve heard. The second half of the record definitely took a bit of a turn towards something I would have expected a bit more from The Cure, taking a much darker tone. There’s 3 real contenders for the best track here, somewhere between the opening two tracks, Plainsong, Pictures of You, and then later in the record, Lullaby. I was really shocked by this record, one of the few 4 stars I’ve given out. I really enjoyed this.

Listening session: february 28th, while getting ready in the morning Listened to before: listened to some songs before Thoughts: I’ve always been into moody and depressed music so naturally I like The Cure. I didn’t know this whole album but was pleasantly suprised Favourite tracks: Lovesong, Fascination Street & Untitled

One of those legendary albums that you only hear good things about. And for good reason. Disintegration is pretty darn great. The atmosphere is thick with emotion, presence, drama. It’s not so different from what an ideal late-stage Pink Floyd might have been if the band hadn’t gone all-in on horrific 80s production after Roger Waters’s departure. Add in a heavy dose of the Smiths (or the Britpop genre in general – it’s all the same) and you arrive at this moody, synth-laden nightmarescape. Plainsong is a great introduction into the Cure’s quasi-depressive symphony – almost musical-like with its ringing bells and swooping synths – that leads into the more radio-friendly Pictures Of You. This second track focuses more on melody, and it does it well. The guitar notes flicker around your ears in that distinctive Britpoppy 80s manner, and though I’d like to hear a more interesting/satisfying guitar sound, I have to respect it being a product of its time. Experimental, distorted guitars had gone out of fashion (temporarily) by this point in time, though they’d return in earnest with the grunge movement. After Closedown, a solid track that takes half its length to reach the first lyric, we get another radio hit with the simple, pretty Lovesong. Lullaby is also notable, mainly for its mumbled vocal and nice string arrangement (the pizzicato is especially good). The Same Deep Water As You takes a while to really get going. But once you recognise it’s very much a slow-burn song, it gets a lot more digestible. The strings in the second half are breathtaking. At the end of the record, Homesick’s piano and filtered guitar sparkle through the mix, making the track a big standout. I’d forgotten that the Cure’s vocals are kind of weak. What is it with British singing after the (well-meaning) disaster that was the punk movement? It’s like bands just started hiring bogans off the street, slapping a cheap mic on their chest, and calling it a lovely English day. Luckily, this band somewhat disguises the bad vocals with excellent atmospheric instrumental work. And hefty track lengths. You end up being just barely annoyed enough at the eight-minute runtimes to forget the David Byrne ah post-punk vocals. The strongest it gets is pretty late in the album, in the title track. The guy’s positively belting here. And it’s for the better. He sounds one-of-a-kind, as well as extremely upset. I guess if my world were “breaking apart like I’m made up of glass again”, I’d be upset too. 4/5 Key tracks: Plainsong, Lovesong, Homesick

Great album, despite Robert Smith 🙈

Fantastic album. Not my favorite Cure, but it’s up there #johnsvinyl

Wraps up The Cure on this list for me. I'd put this right between Seventeen Seconds and Pornography. Gloomy doomy, some nice strings.

Man. What an album. It was exactly what I needed today. Painsong totally caught me off guard and set me up for what to expect from the rest of the album and it didn’t let me down! The instrumentation was incredible. I truly had no idea the Cure made music like this.

Very nice and moody album. Not as 80s sounding as I feared. Nice mix of guitar and synths with cool driving bass as well. Very atmospheric soundscapes/instrumental parts in most of the songs. A good coherent package.

A one of The Cure’s best albums.

Usually 80s music sounded terrible. The production was awful drum sounded like they were being recorded in an airplane hanger just terrible and the bands and the musicians from the 60s and 70s did not know how to use it proper. Everyone sounded awkward and ugly. But there are some band like the cure who is able to use that 80 sound like a sharp knife. This is the height of 80s music done very very well.

This album comes out the gate strong and is sold throughout. I might just be a Cure fan

im torn between 3.75/5 and 4/5, which may seem too specific but that's where im at lol. i was thinking more like 3.5/5 but then i got to the last 3 tracks and they really blew my mind. those and lovesong were the standouts for me. all of it was really well arranged and produced, and if this was my all time favourite genre i would definitely have it rated higher, but personal taste wise i don't feel like anything more than 4/5 is accurate for me. i think as of right now i see it as 3.75/5 but i can confidently say that in another headspace i could definitely enjoy it more and feel like it's more of a 4/5.

A fantastic album sonically but honestly, it becomes a snoozefest at times. The transitions are great with a few standout tracks.

A beautiful album. Love everything about this one.

Original “nobody understands me” music

I felt a rare case of happy sad. Felt like looking at a pretty corpse

I got this album at the urging of my friend who was full on goth when it was released. Loved it then and it still holds up! It’s not a 5 in my book but a solid 4!

Fav tracks: plainsong, closedown, the same deep water as you, homesick Obviously this album is incredible. The way these artists capture depressing mystical sensations is unfortunately top tier for how much of a cliche it is to adore this group. They’re so good tho

I do like Disintegration, but I'm not often in the mood to listen to it. The Head on the Door, Boys Don't Cry and even Faith give a faster reward.

Yea this rips

A great album but way too long

EGGSELLENT

Not really what I expected, but I'm really liking it. I might just put it in a fitting playlist!

Great ambiance of a record. The Cure always has great songs on their albums, but they also are so aggrandizing that they start to get repetitive.

Plainsong - 4 Pictures of you - 4 Closedown - 3 Lovesong - 5 Last dance - 3 Lullaby - 4 Fascination street - 4 Prayers for rain - 4 The same deep water as you - 3 Disintegration - 4 Homesick - 4 Untitled - 3

Did not expect to like this album so much. It has Lovesong which I hear all the time at work and there’s other bangers which make it a great listen

This is such a great album. It is an ethereal experience. All songs are thematically and musically connected to build this feeling of disembodiment. When you listen to this album, it's like life goes on slow motion and nothing matters but this moment. It is a soundtrack for hopeful depression, while microdosing on morphine. Bliss.

Pretty sure I'm very much the wrong age to appreciate an album like this, but it was gorgeous. And so well constructed.

I had forgotten how comfortable this album is. Dark, moody, swirling, it's the Cure at their most polished. "Lovesong" was the hit from this LP but "Fascination Street", "Pictures of You" and "lullaby" are the standouts. Near perfect for a Cure record.

Pretty good, I liked the vibe

banging but went on for a while

Dark, gloomy, brooding. That's what I thought this would be, and it is. Probably didn't need to be so long though.

Enjoyed this one. The tone shifts on this album caught me off guard a couple of guard a couple of times. It can go from super dark on one track to cheerful on the next. But it works.

Today I listened to Disintegration by The Cure, and I must confess: I was genuinely taken aback by how much I enjoyed it. It matched my mood perfectly, and I was honestly impressed. I barely knew anything about the band beyond “Friday I’m in Love,” which I adore, so I didn’t really know what to expect. Then I opened the album on Spotify, saw the duration, and thought, “Okay, another 80-minute album. We’re either going to suffer or fall in love.” I’m starting to notice a pattern: music from the past used to be long, immersive, almost excessive, while today everything feels shorter — maybe a symptom of the TikTokification of music. But anyway. From the very beginning, I had the feeling that this was a breakup album, and I kind of loved that. Actually, I really loved it. The opening track is stunning. I saved a bunch of songs — I think I only disliked two — and the overall experience felt unexpectedly moving. “Plainsong,” “Pictures of You,” “Lovesong,” and “Disintegration” are the clear standouts for me, each one carrying a different shade of melancholy and emotional intensity. I’m so happy that I listened to this album today, of all days — it felt almost too perfectly timed. It was a pleasant surprise. I wasn’t expecting to like it this much, but I did. A lot. Four stars. And yes, it was really special. Beautiful, even.

Even though it's a slow ish 80s album, I still really enjoyed it. Kinda dark and edgy in a way. Disintegration was my favorite.

kind of interesting. i'd written myself off as "not really a The Cure fan" but this one brought me back for sure. there were definitely times where the album annoyed me a little bit, but by and large there were enough cool sounds and cool moments to more than justify any negatives. it's a big chunky album of big chunky songs, and it drags, but when it's dragging in one of those cool moments it's sick, and you get a nine minute song that doesn't feel like it at all. Plainsong is a great opener, but Disintegration really got stuck in my head that's gotta be my favorite. like a soft 4

Really nice. Builds a great mood and sticks with it the whole way through. It was wispy and vibey, not too much to get boring but also enough to build the ambience. Sprinkle in some classics (felt like Kirill going "damn these are all on the same album huh") and you've got a great album 7.9/10

Long but good

Beautifully immersive

That was fucking unreal. That 80s brooding synth just gets me in the giblets

phenomenal album, haven't heard it in ages

Their best album? It’s either this one or Kiss Me x 3. Kiss is a full rock opera with epic waves of sound and orchestration; Disintegration returns to more of the ‘classic’ Cure sound, though lusher and wider in scope now. The first half is impeccable, with “Pictures of You” being the ür-lost-love song. You can imagine Robert wailing this lament atop a dark windswept cliff. Then “Lovesong” captures an almost bare-bones need and tenderness in its swirling melody. “Lullaby” is so gothically creepy it’s pretty much camp, and I adore it for that. The remainder is less memorable, diving into longer, contemplative songs that don’t match the nerve of the first tracks. But it’s still endlessly replayable, with that unique Cure sound sending me on a journey deep with Robert’s singular mind.

A Golden Gloomy Goth Great, according to the lore - and that is exactly what it is

Do we like The Cure’s big breakthrough? It made a lot more sense for this list than that last Cure nonsense.

8/10 Najbolja pisma: Pictures of you

Awesome album, lived up to the height. Really weird creepy lyrics at times, but you had to really listen, because otherwise they sort of just washed over you. This website has definitely boosted my rating of The Cure a lot. For some reason, Spotify kept trying to skip songs, which was really annoying.

Amazing !

In theory, I should really love The Cure, but, honestly, they haven't exploited in me, they haven't hit me yet. I'm still searching for that album of them that will make me a fan, or make me say "yes, yes, yes!". I'm still. For now, this Disintegration is very good, such a kind of gothic-atmospheric album with some experimentation. I value them a lot, I do, and maybe that's what hurts me when I don't really get to love the record, but, instead, like it, I value it, but not at the extent to make it a part of my life. Maybe they are not a band that sonically really makes me feel something, maybe I need another direction. I can't deny the potential, the greatness behind them, and I truly liked the album. But just that, I liked it. So, for now, I'll continue my journey. And maybe I will love their next album to pop-up.

Loved it, but I feel like it doesn’t stand out enough for 5 stars

I enjoyed the ride but I can't see myself ever going for this again.

Enjoyed this

Liked some of the songs, of course not all of them. Fascination street fascinates me a lot. 4/5.

At last. Meer checken!

Awesome album, one of the best from The Cure. Such a distinct sound, kind of melancholy with the guitar and bass.

Gothic rock, dream pop, post-punk, alternative rock. Worth a revisit.

Awesome, I haven't listened to much of their slower stuff like this but this is the type of sound so many shoegaze bands try to emulate.

d e p r e s s i o. Leave it to The Cure to make 80's goth sad music enjoyable. Its definitely moody so your mileage may vary, as someone who spent an inordinate amount of time in highschool listening to emo, this hits all those familiar hallmarks. It just sounds good, the production is crafted well, my issue with other groups that attempt this kind of music tend to muddy it up, or something gets lost in the shuffle, maybe too much distortion, quiet monotone vocals, etc. Here everything is pretty clear and mixed well. If I had to pick a track that nails this particular sound it would be Lovesong, great tempo, downer lyrics, a string section! Never felt so good to be sad. 4.5 if I could!

This might just be sad Brit boy music but it hit just right today. I was definitely in the mood to be moody

Quite slow and atmospheric. Probably needs the listener to be in the right mood. Lovesong on two suggested albums in 4 days!

Very dreamlike and atmospheric. I've never listened to The Cure before other than Boys Dont Cry, so I wasnt expecting this but it was a nice surprise.Fascination Street and Prayer for Rain or wtv its called were my standouts. Pretty enjoyable album but what tf is Lullaby talking abt lol. 7.4/10

every song sounds the same with those vocals and that punchy snare that has a lot of space or whatever but i liked it and idk what makes a 5

I actually enjoyed this a lot. The production is fantastic, and even though I generally hate songs that have like a 3 minute instrumental intro, the music was really good here.

As I listened to this long album, so awash in gloom and reverb, I was plagued with one question: Why is this album great? I didn’t mean it like, “This album is great! How’s they manage it?” What I meant was that everyone thinks this is one of the greatest albums ever made, and I couldn’t really see why. Like, it was fine. It kind of sounded cool, and there were moments that really captured a feeling, and layers I’d notice tucked under a blanket of sound. But I couldn’t stop thinking that it was overindulgent, vacuous, and too 80s for 1989. I was preparing to give this a 3. And then, somehow, as I listened to the last three songs (each of which was too long, on paper anyway), something changed within me. The album won me over. I got it. I wanted to listen again. I had to meet it at its level, not expect it to be something it wasn’t. Suddenly, I asked the same question as before, but with the originally false meaning: Why is this album great?

I was confused by the first track, which, if I’m not mistaken was an instrumental, or very nearly so. I had no idea. This album sounds like the 80s. I was also taken by the fact that this didn’t seem as sad, as angst-filled, as I think of The Cure being. Gets my stamp of approval, I added it.

this album is really good. i got a litttttllleee bored towards the end just bc all the songs start to sound the same but overall i really enjoyed it. lullaby is a really cool track. everyone loves the cure

Ah the Cure, it’s for what ails ya!

Very obscure and it's giving cocteau twins. loved it, but probs not my fav cure album.

Big fan. Maybe even 4.5

solid 4

my first the cure album and i understand 🙂‍↕️.

Genre: Gothic Rock One of the decade's biggest albums comes right towards the end of it, and it proved to be a mighty springboard into the 90s. The Cure did a very nice job both highlighting what makes 80s music enjoyable, as well as forecasting what some Dream Pop/Alt Rock records would sound like in the early-mid 90s. Awesome production, and some genuinely beautiful rock songs, but some tracks really overstay their welcome. This album could've cut maybe 5-10 minutes overall and been even more enjoyable. Great record, though! Definitely feels essential and necessary. 4/5

I loved the dramatic intro to this album, how fresh it felt. It felt classic. Favourite track: Lovesong

Smooth, sultry sounds all around, a real vocal showcase for Ella Fitzgerald. And the pianist pulls through so well. something about the 50,s and simplicity in love songs that really sells me, great evening listening

A classic Cure album with some awesome hits. It just so happened I was in a British melancholy pop groove when this was suggested!

Really like this. A few all time classics. I used to listen to this all the time. Every song is drawn out. In my opinion cutting just a couple of them to be tighter would make the long drawn out songs feel more emotionally powerful and would make the while album better. Maybe I just got too drained by the end, maybe I'm just too jaded to handle so much Cure. Love - Pictures of You (one of my 100 desert island songs), Lullaby Strong 4 stars

saw it was by the cure and knew id like it. solid 4/5 because a couple of the songs i found boring but other than that a good album

I just love the cure ok?

Almost a 5!

I can't bear their hits at all, but this is great.

Sobre a banda eu só conhecia boys don't cry e friday i'm in love. Eles são bons, gostei!

Love it!

I was fairly ambivalent to The Cure in high school - didn't love them, didn't hate them, enjoyed a few of their poppier hits. When I went to college and my high school girlfriend (with whom I was attempting to maintain a long-distance relationship) quickly broke up with me, I purchased this album and listened to it non-stop. It was absolutely perfect for my personal melodrama.

A couple songs in the middle drag for me but for the most part I'm surprised to say I absolutely loved this album

It’s good. Better than 17 seconds

The end of robert smiths attempts of writing pop music, after kiss me and head on the door. All three albums are amazing. Some pretty bangers - plainsong, pictures of you, lovesong are the best 3 openers ever. Lullaby is a classic. Does tail off near the end. I prefer his more depressing earlier stuff like

After many more listens. I love this album. Great songs like pictures of you, love song, lullaby

woah. This was definitely not what I expected, I knew of the Cure but definitely not their entire discography. It’s so cool to hear a different side of the music since i’m so used to hearing the more pop-esqe side of them. Especially since the sounds in this album are almost evangelical. Fire way to start the year.

First listen to a complete The Cure album. A bit dark lyric wise but excellent musician ship and vocals.

I really enjoyed this one! There were a lot of beautiful melodies, and this just had a nice feel to it and overall album flow. I knew some of the songs but not the whole album- a nice discovery!

Fun listen, so many great tracks.

Was quite worried when I saw "The Cure" pop up, since I've already been given Pornography, and that album wasn't that good. However, this was actually a lot more pleasing to listen to.

A warm blanket made of sadness

‘Fascination Street’ makes me want to eat people. In a good way.

I love The Cure, not sure this would be my favorite album but I still like it quite a bit. Has some really good songs on it.

I love The Cure but I hadn't heard this one. I didn't recognize the tracks, but I really enjoyed listening though this. It's slow with a light, airy feel to it

This album was good. I liked it. It was very ethereal very desolate very dystopian, but in a 80s glam sort of the way it’s kinda like looking at a dystopian version of the future that doesn’t exist in someway. I really enjoyed. I felt like the songs were you know clear, but had some sort of emotional Centre that I thought I could connect to and yeah, generally it did drag a bit I won’t drag a bit in the middle for me, but I kind it made me appreciate the songs where I felt really engaged I would say.

I didn't listen to the whole album (lack of time) but the songs i did give a listen to, were nice! I only knew the cure from 'boys don't cry' and 'friday im in love' Would defenitely listen to the album again to form a better opinion and some songs have the potential to end up in my playlist after a few listens! Again, i feek like this would be more of a background music for a saturday evening

Peaks with Prayers for Rain, the couple songs immediately before and after are great, everything else good

forgot how good "pictures of you" is as a song, really don't listen to the album as a whole because "plainsong" is such a good intro to "pictures of you" Robert Smith has such a great voice. the album starts out with radio bangers and sneaks the goth in steadily. singles are great but this reminds me why albums exist yeah, need to listen to more albums as a complete thing. this is my first suggested album for this project so i've yet to establish good absolute and relative ratings scales but this is a 4/5, maybe even 5/5.

I enjoy The Cure’s style and am familiar with several of their hits that are on this album, but this full listen through was a first for me. Last Dance was a stand out, and I’m not sure I’d ever heard Lullaby before, even though I see it is credited as the first single from this record. Overall this was a pleasant listen and exposed me to some more songs by them I enjoy.

Thoroughly enjoyed this album. Has a dreamy feel to it with the instrumentals and voice. Has an older sound to it but holds up really well to todays standards.

20/12/2025 Although I knew of The Cure, I've never listened to them. Great discovery. Spotify listeners: 20.1 million
