Reviews (page 7 of 14)

7/10, classics that i love like pictures of you, lullaby, and love song. Very atmospheric and ethereal for me, very coherent album but i think some of the songs are very similar, i like something a bit more diverse. all in all great stuff, love the cure!

Pretty decent

Liked the atmospheric quality of these tracks, although liked the music slightly less than I did other Cure albums. Still enjoyable, 3.5/5

Enjoyed listening through this album, there were a couple of songs that slowed things down in ways I didn't necessarily care for and upon repeat listens they don't stand out in the way other songs do. Still an overall good listening experience! My favorites are probably Plainsong, Pictures of You, Prayers for Rain, and Untitled.

This is an album born under difficult circumstances. Robert Smith was struggling with depression, not least about turning 30, founder member Lol Tolhurst was struggling with alcohol and the whole band seemed to struggle with their popularity as a pop band. Smith wanted to recover The Cure’s gothic roots and this album is the result. Despite the struggles the scale of the band’s ambition is on full display here, beginning with the sweeping instrumental opener. The usual Cure sonic elements are present, with the addition of atmospheric synth pads. Despite the overall depressing themes the album has its sweeter moments. Lovesong is actually a love song - surprise. The feeling of disintegration increases as the album progresses, but don’t be put off by the goth gloom billing; whilst this is by no means an upbeat album neither is it entirely a gloomfest. There’s some honest to goodness creative and even accessible pop here.

1. Plainsong Cinematic beginning, kind of cool, don't know how I feel about it, kind of good. Nice instrumentals and stuff, kind of Coldplay feel, for some reason, at least like the vocals. Same kind of background stuff the whole song, a little too much of the same stuff for me. 6.5/10 Still a good song, not bad music, but I couldn't get into it. 2. Pictures of You The way these songs follow each other is really nice and fitting, they go well together. I like the nice complex picking on the guitar, and like building of layers, it sounds cool. I also like the random wind chime thing, it's fun. Nice little pauses between version, makes for a good transition to vocals. I like the way the song flows, it's all very natural and keeps the song interesting. 7.5/10 I liked the song a lot, it was good, and flowed nicely, but it ran just a little bit long for my taste. 3. Closedown This song starts pretty okay, I don't know if I like the start, it's not really into any groove. Well, actually it has grown on me a little, the synth chords helped a little, and the guitar background. All of these songs are getting really similar, I don't know how I'll do with an album full of these. Not a lot of words, mostly just like ambient instrumental. 6.5/10 It was cool, but it got kind of boring, just like ambient instrumental. 4. Lovesong Okay, okay, nice little spy vibe? Love whatever the bass is doing. Nice little piano part, don't quite jive with the tone of the piano. Love the little guitar spy chord hits. Nice vocals, fit the vibe well, not a bad voice, maybe a little more melody would be nice, but it's a good chill vocal. Nice little guitar solo. 8/10 Never a dull moment, the song was good, not necessarily revelatory, but good. 5. Last Dance Liking the instrumental beginning to this one, especially the switch to the more guitar focused backgrounds, really cool. I don't know if I like the vocals as much on this one, not necessarily bad though. Nice continuation of the song though, some nice slight color changes that keep the song interesting. On all of these song I would like more contrast from the original vibe though, they just kind of lay a baseline and don't really deviate much from that line. 7.5/10 Nice very solid song, I would like a little more variety and change within the song, but it stayed relatively interesting. 6. Lullaby The groove on this one is really nice, doesn't feel like a lullaby at all but okay. Nice little synth solo, more backgroundish, but good. Oooh fun little whispery vocals, very fitting to the vibe. This song really grooves, I do not know how this isn't their most popular song in the album. Kind of would like a more solid chorus in this song, that would have put it over the top but still a really nice song. 8.5/10 Never a dull moment, very fitting to the vibe, good groove, nice ornaments, the ending was nice too. 7. Fascination Street Didn't really like the Lullaby to Fascination Street transition, didn't feel right, but it's okay. Fascination Street is also cool, I like the beginning, the synth is a little piercing, but I might just have my volume up too high. Very good vibe, got the same kind of rock/spy feel, it sounds really cool. Kind of makes me think of a sped up St. Walker? by Young the Giant, could be wrong on that one, but I think I'm right. Definitely not the same, but still similar feel. I like the vocals, definitely more of a messier feel than the other songs, but its very fitting with the style. 8.5/10 I also like this song a lot, it had a nice dark and moody feel and had a groove and parts that matched well. 8. Prayers for Rain Honestly would not believe I am on song #8 this album has kind of flown by, I got a little scared at song 2-3 but there have been nice changes in style that have made it more interesting. This one does have the same feel as the song before, and I dunno, it's not quite as good, but still nice. I don't know if I like the synth part, not quite right. But the guitar playing was on point. I do like the vocals on this song though, so I'm thinking this song will get a pretty good score despite the weird synth. 8/10 Almost as good as the other song, but not quite the same, and the synth part didn't quite sit well with me. TED-Ed ending, intrusive though, sorry 9. The Same Deep Water as You This song is seeming pretty cool, I don't know if I like this song's groove as much either, but it has some eerie elements that I like. The synth line is much better in this one, why wasn't it good on the last one? I don't know. I like the vocals on this one, very soulful. The way each part in this song work together is really nice. This song is long though, I like it so far, I really, really, really, hope it doesn't get boring. It has gotten a little boring, dang it, there just isn't enough variation for me to really stay tuned in, it does change, but not enough. The crackles last forever too. 7.5/10 Really good song, I liked it, it just got a little repetitive and not enough changed, just started feeling a little flat. 10. Disintegration Very nice, upbeat and all, good contrast to the previous song. Kind of "Take on Me"-like snare hits, goes with the song pretty well though. I do like what the bass is doing, keeps the song interesting. This song is getting and feeling repetitive a lot quicker than the other songs, it's probably because it's faster. But thankfully the drums and harmony changed up a little right then, kept it nice. I have not been listening to the lyrics of these songs enough, I'm getting so sucked into the way they sound, but probably because that's the cool part, the way the instruments sound. 8/10 Good solid song, might've been a little long but stayed interesting and had a nice groove. 11. Homesick MMMMMMMMMM That's some tasty piano. I like the guitar too, nice little duet. Oh shoot and the drums are so tasteful too. Holy, cow and the violin (probably a synth sound) too? This song is nice with it. Gah, the blaring synth is ruining it, nooooooooo. Maybe gives a little bit of eeriness, but dang, I don't like it. Also when the bass comes in, peak. mmmm, dang, I don't like the lyrics either, this song is like so close to being great, but it's like the one song were the style didn't completely come together, it's really sad. The vocals, are actually growing on me a little, but still would've liked them a little different. Never mind, man actually hit the most depressed doos I have ever heard. Nice little piano solo at the end, gah and this song was almost perfect. 8.5/10 Despite my complaints I loved the backgrounds and everything that happened there, I just didn't like some of the synth parts and vocals. 12. Untitiled Okay, maybe the tone on the synth was a little bad, but the starting groove is nice. Makes me wanna dance, very happy and pop-ish compared to the rest of the songs, actually feels like the end of the album. The vocals on this one are nice too, so far this song has been one of my favorites. Maybe gets a little repetitive at the end, but fair, not that uninteresting. 8.25/10 It's a nice and good song, but it's too light to really be cool, and not really pop-ey enough to be pop so it can't quite get to 8.5, but it is a very solid and good song. I'd say this was a pretty good cohesive album, all the songs had a pretty similar vibe, which is good. I liked most of them, but sadly some of them did get a little boring, The Cure doesn't really change their songs up enough for me to be extremely engaged the whole time, but they were all good, so not too many complaints. This album has a bunch of good songs so a solid 4/5.

It's not for the every day listen, but it's still a real good album from The Cure.

Great album, the exception that confirms the rule. Not a fan of the Cures in general but this one is good. December 15, 2025.

A good listen!! Never bored though no one song grabbed me immediately as a true standout. Thank you Robert Smith.

Sick album. Fascination and lullaby.....puhlease! Then add love song and pictures and it's over the top.

Powerful, monumental sound, sometime gloomy, sometimes fragile and spooky and sometimes warm and endearing. Shows off how versatile the Cure can be without reallychanging the settings on the mixing desk!

Its a good album definitely an expierence a lot of the songs were long which personally taints the replayability of each individual song but the album is definitely artistic and conceptual which i love 4 star

Thoroughly enjoyed this album. Took a few goes through to fully appreciate it though. Some obvious standout singles, and after learning the history of the album, I appreciated it even further.

C’est moi ou après les dernières semaines que j’ai eu, The Cure sonne vraiment bien? Genre, c’est comme si s’était un album qui possède une substance et une idée derrière? Bon, j’ai pas signé pour un double album, mais bon, j’ai espoir

Lovely work. Gives me new appreciation for Shena’s songwriting.

Almost a masterpiece but maybe the songs are a bit too samey

I enjoyed this so much more than my teenage self did. Originally the song Lullaby creeped me out so much the whole album was so goth to and I was freaked out. Now, I really liked it. It's vibes and almost meditative. Nostalgic too. Even Lullaby🤣.

- pictures of you on yks kaikkien aikojen biiseistä - tämä on kyllä kertakaikkiaan hieno levy, kuin lämmin halaus

If Only I'd Thought Of The Right Words 1001 Albums Generator 177 (12/5/2025) Disintegration is largely considered to be the greatest album by The Cure, and there is certainly good reason for that. Between Lovesong, Lullaby, Pictures of You, and Plainsong, you've got four of the biggest songs the band ever did (which is ironic considering Robert Smith had a distaste for the band's newfound success and wanted Disintegration to be less accessible), and there are some truly excellent deeper cuts on this thing, like the title track and Closedown. The atmosphere of this album is so ethereal, but in a very dark way; it's really one of the gloomiest albums I've ever heard. Musically, these compositions are extremely washed out and dense in their production, with countless layers of heavily effected guitars on top of a loud echo-y drumkit and deep basslines. As much as I love this album, there are a few songs I'm not a big fan of, most notably the closing track, Untitled, which sits at the end of this 72 minute album and just doesn't really introduce any new or notable ideas to my ears. Overall, some parts of this album can drag on a bit, but it is still really good, and if I were a more depressed person, I would love this album even more. As it is, 4/5. Favs: Plainsong Pictures Of You Lovesong Least Fav: Untitled

Beautiful melancholic pop

i prefer the stuff off of kiss me kiss me kiss me and wish but this lowkey fire too, better then pornography. cool post punk / new wave stuff, doesn't get old in the 75min run one bit.

Alaways good very dark although not their most hit filled album its definitively the best. Dark as fuck maybe a few songs too similar but once the tone is set it a downward spiral of dark hate which I love

Lush, gloomy, and intricate. There’s such a strong sense of mood here. Nice to get to know The Cure beyond their hits, to revisit some old favorites and find some new ones. My favorites were Lullaby and Fascination Street. Plainsong is also an incredible opener here.

The band's sound was developed well before the hair and pasty look of Robert Smith and this is most certainly a band that you either get or you don't - seems to be no inbetween. It took a while for me to see into the noise.

The best genre to come out of the 80s, and one of the best bands to come out of the genre. The hits on this record hit so hard, but there are a few tracks that miss ever so slightly. Best Track: Pictures of You

Very moody and atmospheric. I liked how Plainsong built upon that and held off on the vocals until about halfway through the song. But then like half the songs did that and it lost its charm a bit. Still a solid album.

Far and away the best album I’ve got so far that I almost wanna give it a perfect score, but it did take a bit for me to really click with this so I think it needs another listen. I’m lucky that I already listened to the Cure albums before this earlier in the year because that allows me to see how was basically them taking the experimentation and eclecticism of Kiss Me and infusing it with the consistently dark whirlpool mood of Pornography(which is still my favorite) and Seventeen Seconds. Amazing album.

Instrumentally this is top notch, I really like the foreboding intro on track one and the distorted effects on most guitar sections. I’m not 100% sold on his voice yet but it makes them something different. Probably a 4 for now but might go back and give it a five now I’ve worked out I can do that.

Amazing album. The Cure’s magnum opus. 9/10 Favorite tracks- “Pictures of You” “Fascination Street” “Prayers For Rain”

Standouts Pictures of You Lovesong Fascination Street The Same Deep Water as You

unititled fascination street

Beat expectations

Overcomes a few sluggish parts and when it's good it's really good. Pictures Of You is especially great.

height of their powers. I’m not a big enough fan of the cure to give it five stars but it’s close; this record is really evocative and a bolded, capital E Emo. gloomy stuff!

Solid. Great songs

Maybe The Cure album I like the most although it kinda drags towards the end.

This was a really great album - I wasn’t expecting heaps (largely because I haven’t like much of the sad boi goth rock I’ve gotten so far) but I was really surprised with how much I enjoyed this. Not quite a five star album for me (it was probably a bit too long) but still an excellent listen.

Definitely The Cure’s best album. Moody and dark but somehow still light and fun.

I wasn't in the mood for this today but there are some undeniably good songs on here. Could probably be considered a masterpiece for getting such gloomy, dark, introspective songs into the pop charts. 4/5.

I think maybe I confuse The Cure with The Clash because I completely did not expect this album to be what it was. And what a great surprise that was. Front to back, it's great. I could definitely see myself getting into the small nuances and listen to it over and over.

I can see why this album is on this list. So much inspiration to bands that followed. The cure have been in my orbit for about 35 years but I've never considered myself a fan. That said. This album was surprisingly good front to back

mmh the cure pari kipaletta ennestään soittolistoilla nyt kiinnostaa joku tämmösessä vähän gothic dark wave musassa hittaa loppuarvio: mmmhh me likey

oii olen tästä innoissani!! tykkäsin ekasta biisistä jotenkin aavemaisen kaunis ja sanoista tuli vähän twilight vibat hooahooahoohooahoaaa!!!! soittimet kuulostaa niin hyvältä tässä. tosi hyvä alku!! tokassakin biisissä ihana instrumentaalinen alku. jotenkin talvimainen albumi. Lovesong on symppis<3 tykkään ku tosi vaihtelevia biisejä eikä kaikki vaan sulaudu yhteen! lullaby on jotenki cool mut samaan aikaan creepy. vibat mätchää kyl tohon album coveriin. keskityin vähän vähemmän toiseen puoliskoon mut palaan varmaan kyl viel kuuntelemaan!

This is great. Perfectly moody

A more unique sound from The Cure than I am used to - darker, richer, rounder - still quite enjoyable!

7/10… new wave / gothik / melancolic / *1989

The first half of this album is perfect. I always forget how hard “Pictures of You” hits until it’s been a while.

Nostalgic. Very pre emo, sad boy. Liked the synth and some of the more confident drum and guitar rifts.

Good Cure.

Really good but quite repetitive and depressing

Liker veldig godt at de tar seg god tid med å bygge opp låtene, og alle de nydelige melodilinjene som ligger i bakgrunnen. Klar firer.

I haven't heard someone make such long intros! I enjoyed that. Honestly, I would prefer this album to be instrumental. It's one of the bands which could become my favorite, but I hate the vocals. Instrumentally, I love the nostalgic atmosphere, the textures — everything is just perfect. But the vocalist's timbre is just not my cup of tea. It's just my subjective POV. I'm glad that I listened to it thanks to the challenge. Very talented arrangements! I had so much pleasure just trying to focus on the music, not the vocals. P.S.: I did feel that The Cure feels like if Martin Gore from Depeche Mode was highly depressed and less vain lol

Very good sonically and unmistakably The Cure. Not my first introduction, but begs the question, why haven't I heard this album before? Really enjoyed tracks 1 and 4 for their departure from the typical TC sound. I do wish the lyrics had more depth and variance, and not the biggest fan of the 80s sound, but would definitely recommend giving this a listen.

Oli hyvä levy, pitää kuunnella uudestaan. 4/5.

the moral of the story is it’s OK if every song on your album sounds pretty much the same so long as it sounds cool ❤️  i like how shimmery these songs are, like shot silk in a deep shade. fav tracks: plainsong; lullaby; lovesong; disintegration

very atmospheric and interesting. i liked it

I wasn’t sold on this later version of The Cure at first—I missed the jagged, manic edge. But the baroque lugubrious qualities grew on me and I ended up a fan.

Meega album!

An einem verregneten Nachmittag im Herbst einen Nordseedeich entlangspazieren und Steine in die Gischt werfen. Klasse Album, allerdings finde ich das Homesick Cover von Rosetta deutlich besser gelungen.

Mega Sound. Stimme noch gewöhnungsbedürftig

Enjoyed this way more than I expected. Felt introspective. Great listen

Rest in Peace Dostoyevsky you would’ve loved Disintegration (1989) by The Cure

Hits and great deep cuts

Büro, Heidenheim, Deutschland. Gutes Album.

To use a generator term, The Cure are one of my uncontroversial artists - I’ve had three albums by them and I’ve given them all four stars. If I had to pick a favourite though, I’d go with this.

Too long

I've never been that into The Cure, however I do think they are a brilliant band. I just find that their music kinda just makes me feel absolutely nothing. That being said I still rate the album very highly, because it is absolutely immaculate, and beautifully crafted, as is with most of The Cure's work. Their songs just make feel absolutely nothing.

Yeah you know what that's actually pretty good. I like the style, but chin up fella, come on!!

amazing

You can really hear the influence on mcr in the song lullaby. Badass

wonderful dreamy melancholy in a late 80s vibe which usually isnt my thing but i like it. 4

Fuck yeah, The Cure.

I have been back and forth on whether this one was a large 3 or a small 4. Ultimately I've landed on a small 4 since I could see myself returning to this at some point in the future to give it a bit more time. I found the atmosphere very interesting but I probably didn't listen enough to the lyrics to really appreciate everything. Standouts - 4/5

One that feels very difficult to rate after a couple of listens. This is definitely the version of the cure that I found interesting in my mid teens and then lost interest in when I thought I was too cool. Lots of beautiful soundscapes and sort of post rock feel. Interesting stuff

Yeah it’s very good but the second half drags on, The Same Deep Water As You could have been perfect as the last song.

This album has two high water marks, “Lovesong” and “Pictures of You”, the of which is an all timer for me. But other than that it’s just OK.

Really liked it, but just too long. Soft 4, best listened to driving at night with the windows down

Loved brought me back

really enjoyed this one. no song stood out to me as bad or boring. i think my favorite is homesick or lovesong. definitely will be revisiting this.

4 out of 5, almost 5. It's a haunting and surreal album that deserves the praise it gets.

Está bien, pero me gusta más su anterior trabajo y otras canciones. En conjunto creo que es un gran album de una "época atmosférica" y de la que salieron buenos vídeos para la MTV. Me guardo "Pictures of you", "Lullaby", "Fascination street" y "Disintegration".

Прікольни

Not my style at all, but The Cure is a solid band and the production on this album is really good

This album is famously considered to be one of the greatest punk records of all time, but personally, I just don't quite get it. I understand the influence it may have had on the genre, but there were plenty of other punk records released before this which had an even more advanced sound. Still, this record holds up really well, and is obviously very good, with some very nice sounding guitars and other instruments, but just enough to get an 8.5/10.

Mysterious

Smukt album.

I called a New Order album the poor mans Cure earlier this week. Here’s the real thing. 8/10

Man kan nesten ikke gå feil med The Cure, og det er kanskje bare lengden på plata jeg har å utsette på den.

A classic album, 1hr 12 feels quite long when shoe gaze, but plenty of great moments on the journey. Strong 4

The Cure at this point has perfected the art of slow moving, creeping, gothic drama. Drawn out, gorgeous instrumentals with passionate vocals that cut through to the soul. These patient tracks with huge payoffs are punctuated by big singles which would play great in front of a festival audience or on prime time radio. It’s this killer combination that makes them one of the all time great rock bands.

Great album but you need to be in the right mood because…it’s a lot. Lullaby will forever be one of my favorite cure songs

Love the arrangement of first track, very theatrical (and I can own my love if dramatic music ...Meatloaf). Several other tracks saved to my MOODY playlist. Listened before? N Saved tracks? Y Favorite tracks? Plainsong, Love song, ⭐⭐⭐ ⭐ Liked it a lot. Saved several tracks.

Oh Wow - its been more than 30 years since I listened to this album the whole way through I now I remember why - half the songs develop like a fine wine over time and have a special place in my collection, whereas the other half dont quite hit the same way, which to be honest is still a pretty good run rate for any album! For me, this was a solid end to a great 10-year run of Cure LP's - after this point they no longer suprised me

Day 71 Such a wonderful album, I want to live inside the haunting melodies and the ambiance. I love the cure. (4.5/5)

Don’t think I’ve listened to a The Cure album start to finish before. Very good.

My most anticipated album of 1989. I was a massive Cure fan, so I couldn't wait for this to come out. While I loved it, I found it to be a bit of a slog toward the end. I still think it's overlong, but it's also full of some of their best work.

Same good vibes as usual from The Cure. I enjoyed the album well enough, but it wasn't anything different from their usual. Favorite tracks: Pictures of You, Lovesong, Homesick

I am aware of the Cure obviously, but never actually listened to them on purpose. I enjoyed this album very much, but thought a lot of it all had the same dreary sound with not a lot of variety. Nevertheless, this is very very Cure. They have such a distinctive sound. Listened before: no Listen again: very likely

"Still, here you have a story written with the sole object of inspiring a pleasing terror in the reader; and as I think, that is the true aim of the ghost story." Some Remarks on Ghost Stories, M.R. James. After yesterday's engagement with Junkyard, a gothic rock album that everyone on this site seems to hate, we get to Disintegration, the gothic rock album that everyone - on this site and elsewhere - seems to love. I have admitted before that, while the Cure are among my top five bands, I don't know that they've released a five-star album. Disintegration, laden as it is with garlands from others, is surely the challenge to that. I bought my first copy of Disintegration on the afternoon when I would have my first kiss. She was a lovely goth girl, with Robert Smith's dimpled chin. To situation this memory in early 1999, I'll admit that I bought the album because some character in South Park had called Disintegration "the best album ever," shouting after a winged Kaiju version of Smith. However, the whole interaction was awkward and embarrassing. I wasn't ready for any of it emotionally. I thought I was already in love with a different girl - not a goth, but a quiet and withdrawn. I had also already fallen in love with some of these songs from the live Show album which I'd borrowed from the CD library. Those recordings were leaner, more energetic and the epic cuts, such as Pictures of You, were leavened with shorter, more exuberant tracks from other parts of their career. Let's Go To Bed shouldn't comfortably beside Fascination Street, but it does in the live show. In comparison, the unmoveable slabs of Prayers for Rain and The Same Deep Water as You are a challenge. There are other instances of Cure albums that present such a dense track lists, but it is a hallmark of their two most successful albums - Disintegration and Wish - that there is a specific homogeneity of tone across the whole record. Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me is infinitely varied, as is the Head on the Door. Faith and Pornography are constant in their onslaught. However, on both of those successful records, the pop songs and a depressing dirges are dressed in exactly the same raiment. On Wish, the pop songs are exceedingly pop and pull the epic downers closer to them. On Disintegration, it is the other way around, so heavy is the mood of those later big songs that the singles get caught in their wake. Even, Pictures of You, a song of multiple of hooker parts and a hit single of sorts, is stretch out to epic status, as though the line between the two parts of the Cure is being intentionally mangled. Disintegration often seems like a daunting, dark effort to me, so I rarely listen to it. Unlike Pornography's manic writhing, Disintegration seems to wallow. And I understand the pleasure of wallowing: that is what goth - though the Cure, like everyone else, hates the term - allows you to do. Wallowing is often a put-on or an indulgent exaggeration of events. And, certainly, distinct from the despair that Smith harnessed to write Pornography or the grief he exorcised on Songs of a Lost World, at the time of Disintegration, he was happy, I think. He married he childhood sweetheart - Lovesong is the gift he gave her. In the studio, the band bullied alcoholic bandmate, Lol Tolhurst, because they didn't know how else to handle the challenge of his behaviour. It was a weird, mixed moment and weirder still that it produced such a constant record. I think this consistency is the reason that Disintegration fares so well with others. While the strength of the Cure lies in their extreme poles of pop and desolation, this album melds the two in a way that softens the edges of both in a way that seems to suit most people: a pleasing terror. The main terror for me, however, is Roger O'Donnell's synth strings which upset me even now, but, overall, I have come to admire, if not completely love Disintegration, just as I did not completely love that goth girl back in 1999. Too much, too early. Too much even now. 4 We could have done with this on a weekend but sure… Disintegration is great, there’s no doubt about that, but it’s also the definition of too much of a good thing. By the time I am through the twenty minute stretch of Same Deep Water… and the title track, both of which I admire very much, I am aching to stop. There’s fifteen minutes still to go. There is so much that is memorable on the album - marvellous riffs on every instrument, iconic, gripping drum patterns - and at least half a dozen of the best songs Robert Smith ever wrote. But it doesn’t quite work as an album, for me. There are other records that I love that seem to require reserved energy and a deep breath before sitting through in one go - Ys by Joanna Newsom, Ladies and Gentlemen… by Spiritualized, or even my favourite album OK Computer. But there doesn’t seem to me to be any way of girding myself for Disintegration. It is simply not digestible. It’s not just that it is too long, it’s that it doesn’t have a narrative (emotional?) shape - it sits there like a mountain of champ and gravy. It is always ending and then beginning again with diminishing welcome, even as it impresses and satisfies. What I should have done is listen to Plainsong and Pictures of You - both absolutely wonderful and as good a start to an album as I can think of - and then just glanced down the tracklisting for a moment in remembrance of how good almost all of these tracks are (I could still leave Last Dance in any case). Then I could hand Disintegration its five stars. It’s the listening to it - enduring it - that’s the problem. 4/5

The orchestration for “Pictures of You” is so good I don’t really mind that they follow the same structure on so many other tracks.

I like this way more than I thought I would. Mr. Smith isn't too whiney and the songs are pretty good overall.

Honestly a banger. Just some real classics on here

Definitely a vibe. Gonna have to listen to this again sometime.

top 3: - pictures of you - lovesong - the same deep water as you special mentions: - last dance - lullaby

A near perfect mix of songs and texture.

Moody, which I liked.

The type of album I want to listen to on a rainy September day, looking out the window. Makes me wish I was a goth baddie. Perfect spooky goth album for the fall season. 4/5 stars because the songs were so long

beautiful album!!! so happy i got to see them live a couple years ago!! this record is a good 4/5!

This album is bleak, stark, grey, drab, depressing, sad and introspective… It’s a great piece of music, but I don’t think it’s the quintessential Cure album other think it is. While well written, produced and executed, it kind of all stays in the same vein, save for “Lullaby,” which is not what I like about The Cure. I like there to be a bouncy upbeat song or a sort of weird, but totally engaging song. These are all songs of being overwhelmed and sad and anxious. Apparently, for Robert Smith, turning 30 was a big, sad deal. Enjoyed the album, but if someone said “hey, if you had to pick a Cure album to show the world on a list of 1001 albums, what would it be?” it would’ve been The Head On The Door. Points for having my favorite 311 cover.

My kinda music, love the Cure.

This was way better than I expected. The hits I know and love, but the longer songs with a lot of dreamy musical sections between verses were very enjoyable. The length of it didn’t bother me.

Oh hell yeah, let’s go. One of the best opening tracks on any album ever. Then pictures of you? Come on. What a 1-2 punch. This is an album that justifies its run time, and each track justifies its own length, because the whole thing is so cinematic and immersive. (Looking at you, Metallica’s black album.) I don’t quite love it enough to give it a 5, but it’s also early September and the sun is shining. Give it a couple months and this will hit just right.

This is a class album. It's almost Cure by Numbers. But that's no bad thing. No one else makes music like The Cure. Not then, not now. Good old Captain Bob.

classic album full of dark themes and hypnotic riffs

halluzinogeni the cure wieder! plainsong isch meh e atmosphäre als en song ABER d gitarre isch echt schön ok vlt ischs ganze album eso? closedown findi na easy schön lovesong und last dance back to back isch seeehr geil, und es isch immerno ihdere spezifische atmosphäre lullaby hani eneer nervig gfunde mitem umegezupfe fascination street BANGER wow the same deep water as you isch mega! hans gfühl wär es guets lied als abschluss vom album gsi homesick tönt au öppe so fantastischs album. wär es 5i wenn vlt 1, 2 weniger spannendi lieder nöd debii wäret. eso ischs es starchs 4i d atmosphäre wos kreieret suugt eim fast scho inne

This whole album is an experience, something to really sink into and drift through. But even so, there are so many strong, standout tracks for me. Pictures of You - come onnn, what a perfect song.

Mørk, dronete og fin. Med noen skikkelige godlåter og klassiske melodier.

Liked it. The music feels weighty, in a good way, with lush synths.

new fav! kinda psychodelic and moody

i liked that shi

Not that i ever disliked the cure, but this is definitley the first tome that i felt like i fully understood onoe of their albums. Incredibly good, although its a shame that i dont see whats so gothic about it other than the fact that its the cure. Feels a lot less dark and gloomy in comparisson to their other albums to me atleast (im not goth what do i know). Its does get darker near the end though i guess. I dont want my fav cure album to be the least gothic one that feels lame as hell on my part

Great nostalgic feel. Happy to have listened something from The Cure other than their well-known songs.

Pictures of you is the best sad boy song.

I really liked this one quite a bit more than the previous Cure album I received (Seventeen Seconds). Just felt a little more complex, a little more intricate. Probably more accessible, which for me in this case is a good thing.

I got 17 Seconds as one of my first albums on this list and I was bored most of the time. This was much better, they're hitting their stride here.

I really, really want to give this 5, but it's just too long. The opening of this album is downright haunting, and it closes strong, but it just cannot keep the steam going through the middle section.

Love me some Cure! Lot of hits on this album. I really appreciate a theme and when songs feel like pieces to a larger act, as they do here. This album is unique, weird, and great at what it does.

had already listened to it, maybe I'll relisten someday. But it's really good!

Intense

This is everyone’s favorite Cure album, but I actually think more than a couple of their earlier ones were superior. To be clear: This is a GREAT album and I enjoyed revisiting it.

Great Cure Album. Don't know them well enough to know if its the right choice or not.

I seem to always say this about New Wave, but this is ‘luxury music.’ I can never think of a time when this wouldn’t be great to have on (maybe only at a dance party?). This was the first album by The Cure that I got as a teenager, trying to use an extensive CD collection in my car to look cool. I didn’t appreciate this album then, but some of my friends did. I’m glad I’ve seen the light.

Liked this one more than I thought I would. I've been down on The Cure during this project but this one stood out for the right reasons. More atmospheric with solid production behind it. The guitars and bass really stand out. This might turn me into a Cure fan. Well, maybe not. Robert Smith is still annoying.

I don’t know what I had but this album certainly was the cure

Really great production, and good songwriting

Some real good ones.

I need to listen to this band more, great album

The Cure was one of the bands I was most excited to listen to in this project. I’ve always been a fan of the hits I’ve heard, but admittedly never listened to any of their albums in full. It was just as I expected it to sound.

Phenomenal album. Pictures of You is 5 stars alone. Robert Smith has a way of making a love song seem so fucking cool and not at all sappy. Much of this music is atmospheric and dreamy. Good stuff.

Listened Oct 2024. I understand this one a lot more now. I’m still not the biggest Cure fan, but I’ve come to appreciate their slow, sad gothic melodramas now that I know they aren’t just a goth pop band. Great album that I will keep returning to.

I love the soundscape these guys create. The only other full album I've listened to by The Cure was their new (2024) release and I really liked that one, but I assumed it was a change in direction after mainly knowing their singles. After listening to this all the way through it makes me realize they've always had that sound. Contemplative and interesting throughout.

Pretty good! 4/5

What an album! Atmospheric, nothing it has it all. Packed with fantastic music from start to finish. Highly recommend this one

Gloomy in a good way

The Cure are a band that has evaded me almost entirely but I have to say this was excellent. Will be looking at their other albums.

I've given The Cure (and all the 80s mod/goth/pop) a hard time during this experience, but this was actually the album from them that I did enjoy. Solid songs. Consistent. These are the tracks that show up in a movie and take me back to the 80s with an actual smile. Nice.

Lovesong

Very solid album. Loved the longer instrumentals. Top 3 would be Untitled, Deterioration and Pictures of you.

Ah, Robert Smith's voice. It's right up with in my top ten Voices Of All Time, for sure. Just love it. The bass guitar tone is *chef's kiss* throughout, too. Think I'm going to have to deep dive The Cure soon. Favourite tracks: Pictures Of You, Lovesong, Lullaby, Fascination Street, Disintegration, Untitled.

The Cure are a band I didn't pay much attention to at the time but the previous album on here was alright and so is this. Not exactly a masterpiece but good enough.

I'll be honest, from the offset I struggle a bit with Disintegration as an album. I will wholly admit that it's importance to shoegazer is unquestionable and I think that it's a perfect example of such. My favourite tracks off of here, Lullaby and I think that says a lot about how I feel about this album. When he turns to his slower more introspective singing I think that his voice loses a lot of its' appeal and I don't know if that's intentional or if it's just bad production? Lullaby feels like an intentional confusion of sound in a way that the other songs don't. Lovesong feels like confident melancholy and Smith's voice really shines through. Up to this point I prefer their earlier albums, I prefer their more post-punk and pop sound because I feel he sings with more conviction. As an aside - the era directly after Disintegration, I also love. The perfect blend of their earlier work, evolving their shoegazer style with their gothic/punk/pop sound and Smith's voice and range becomes more controlled and confident. Not the album I'm reviewing, but Wish is IMO peak The Cure. The more matured Cure that we find on their 2024 release Songs of a Lost World is in some ways what I think Disintegration should've been. Should this album get a better score because it's important and made such a difference by differentiating The Cure from a sea of sameness and inspiring so many future bands? Probably yes, but we lose Smith's vocals, it becomes an instrumental album at best in places and that's not what I come to The Cure for. Recommendation and this is similar to my view on Nevermind by Nirvana, get the deluxe version, listen to disc 3 (live in 1989) that's the album I think this should've been and if it had the same emotion and energy then it would be a 5/5 but I'm not reviewing them as a live band, I'm reviewing the original release and I have to do this through that lens. All that said, I'm still giving it a 4/5 for its importance, it's cohesiveness as an album and its musicality. Maybe it's just one of those albums that for me has its time and place.

Better than the last Cure album I reviewed. Plainsong, Lovesong and Fascination Street all have really good instrumentals. Still not a big The Cure guy, but I can get why people like them.

paired up so well with the stormy weather! also getting sick of being mainstream and putting out an album that would ultimately be their most known album is just the cherry on top.

I get it now.

tenía temazos, me gusta esa vibra algo depre que tiene The Cure <3

A sad dreamy meditation.

An absolute classic.

Und darum au viele Dank the cure, wieder mal öpis schöns chöne drilose

the cure for my wednesday blues, the cure for my tiredness, the cure for my hemorrhoids big fan! für 5 dafalgan längeds leider knapp nöd aber für 4 (1 grämmer) ganz bestimmt – wenn das mal nöd en leberschade gid uiuiui

Interesting listen. I felt like I knew The Cure but it turns out I just merged them in my mind with the New Romantic period they coincided with. I found traces of punk in their sound and an emo feel, even though I think they’re a bit early for that genre. Three discs, mostly instrumental was a bit much but I enjoyed disc 1 and that’s the basis of my rating

Very mystical. reminds me somewhat of the sundays

really really liked this album!! the first track was the best and though i didn’t read the lyrics, i liked the sounds and stuff. didnt know The Cure was this good since i dont really like their most famous song Boys Dont Cry. would listen to this album again and this band too :)

Fantastic texture throughout. Can really see their influence in some of my favorite songs.

First half of this album is dull. Second half's great.

Surprised at the contract between this and their other album, Pornography. I liked this one way more.

Excelente álbum. Alguns clássicos. Ótimas músicas. Celest Phoenixcall.

My my, how dramatic the 80s were! These songs are too long, but this is probably the pinnacle of 80s alt-pop. Pictures of You is a killer track.

Lullaby and Fascination Street are incredible songs. The rest of the album is great too. Love it 4/5

Уснула под него. В целом норм, зашло.

This is a bit of a slow burn to begin with but, once you hit “Lovesong”, picks up, and has a run of songs that cement this as maybe their most cohesive album. It’s not perfect - you could lose probably 20 minutes of intro and outro, across the whole album, and it would still keep its coherence. Even my love of The Cure doesn’t temper an dislike of too-long songs.

I think this is the third cure record and by far the best on the list so far. Pictures of you and love song and just flat out great great songs. I am inclined to give this a 4 because I’ve been giving out many threes. Does anyone even give a shit about my rankings? Not likely but I will continue to do this for some reason. Let’s rank it and see what crappy record I need to listen to next.

Another pleasant surprise of another well-known band which I never got interested in for whatever reason (work, home life, focus on the known favourites. Loved listening to this melodic work with beautiful well produced balads and cool songs.

What a great album for today - driving the coast route home, with the moonroof open in So Cal - it was like being part of a movie soundtrack 4/5 #musicsky #albumsky #musicchallenge

The grief and sadness of Robert ongoing depression captures your heart with every lyric in this album. The powerful vocal which comes from the deepest parts of Robert's soul, grips your senses constantly. It's a soul crushing cry

Some amazing tracks, however a lot of ambient / moody instrumentals which were perhaps less interesting

Robert Smith has such a great voice, paired with some great instrumentals here, very atmospheric

Har brukt å kokettere med at eg likar liveversjonen best, men no er eg ikkje sikker lenger

Crazy good album, one of the best in its genre.

I really want to give this one a 5 just because of 'Pictures of You', it's an all-time favorite song of mine. Alas, I've given out too many lenient 5's on this rating platform. 4 it is.

This music has been mixed to be played loud So turn it up

I love The Cure and Robert Smith so it was no surprise that I also loved this album! Such a great dark wave album with some of their best songs. I am definitely listening to this again and I would recommend it to others!

Nothing stood out to me, but for once, I'm more than okay with that. This feels like the type of album you want to let wash over you as it carries you down its river for an hour. I wish it were a bit more gripping, but it was still lovely.

Went back and forth on how to rate this for a while. I think the music (instrumental composition) is fantastic. I also felt myself completely taken out of songs by the singer’s voice, which was fine on some songs, but whiny and grating on others. I think I liked enough songs to give it a 3.5, but I’m still conflicted. (Side note, Lovesong is incredible)

Excellent basslines and synths. They are really good at setting an ambience! The run from Fascination Street to Disintegration was absolute 🔥 on my first listen. Somehow that enjoyment dwindled past that first experience though, and that same run of 5-9min tracks was feeling a tiny bit stretched out by the end of my second/third listen. I respect the talent so much, but I don't think it quite makes it into my rotation! Edit: 8 months later, it has somehow found its way into my rotation. I'm not the most darkwave-pilled guy, but this album really grew on me! Up from 3 to 4 stars.

The unhappy Tuesdays? Still great music..

Lovely surprise. Definitely will listen to again.

****an easy listening album

Guess I'll never judge a goth by it's cover again - this album has some bangers on it. I was expecting a deep depression to sink in. I instead got a deep depression to sink in, and some sweet summer tracks for my riding playlist (Closedown, Lullaby and Fascination Street).

This is so close to being a five-star album for me. The musical arrangement and atmosphere on most of the tracks is superb. However, while Smith's vocal style is a natural component that makes this band what it is, I just don't like it enough to want to listen regularly. I WANT to like it enough, I really do, but I can't - It's like a 4.999 stars for me.

Good record, not totally into The Cute, but they put out pretty decent music.

The best Cure album I've heard. Still a little monotonous with the vocals, but good overall.

I really enjoyed this album, it is obv a pretty sad listen but I think that’s the point and I do like sad music. I do really love the vocals, always have liked the Cures vocals. Some parts on the latter part didn’t really stick out to me like the beginning.

I really enjoyed this album, moody and atmospheric in such a good way. Listening to the whole album through I sometimes found it fading into the background for me a little, but it was still enjoyable. Fav song: Lovesong - probably partly because it’s the song I was already most familiar with. I also really liked Pictures of You and Untitled Least fav: Last Dance - it’s fine I just didn’t find it as interesting as the other songs

Die Lieder sind sehr lang, ABER unschlagbare Atmosphäre

I adore the cure and their music so much. This is not my favorite but its close.

At first i was not super excited for my second The Cure album in less than a week. But boy I was wrong. This was like a wave of sound and emotion. You can truly be transported by music like this. It's raw and honest. Pictures of you just could easily be in the soundtrack to the indie film about your first high school relationship. Classic!!

Very good moody alt rock, but dragged a bit long at times. May revisit in the future.

Excellent album. Bit too long at an hour and a quarter. I love Robert Smith, but it starts to feel a bit same-y, even though every song is excellent. Solid 4 stars.

Ok I get this one. This Cure album is a magnum opus, that much is clear. And I do like it, but I also have some qualms. Let’s start with the qualms. Maybe just one qualm tbh. A lot of the tracks follow a very similar sound palette at a very similar ploddy tempo. This gives the album a very consistent feel, but I also find some tracks drift into each other without leaving a lasting impact. You end up with some good songs that are also somehow forgettable. Ok, so qualm aside, here The Cure really are doing their broody, gothic best. Some things that are excellent: the string arrangement on Lovesong, the wistful romantic nostalgia of Pictures of You, the feeling you get the first time you hear Lullaby - a truly singular song, maybe their best, the last minute outro of Untitled to close the album. Really if I give it a little more time I think this could easily grow to be a 5 and an all time album for me. Fave Tracks: Plainsong, Pictures of You, Lovesong, Lullaby, Disintegration 4.4/5

Given how many Smiths albums I've had to endure, I'm a bit shocked that this is the first Cure album so far in the collection (with two more to come). I've never been a big Cure fan--I can still vividly recall many heated arguments with a co-worker at the bike shop I worked at, debating the glory (him) and whiny-ness (me) every time various songs from this album (and others) came on the radio. But I'm happy to say that so much Smiths exposure in this project has made me much more appreciative of the relative merits of The Cure now. I still wouldn't choose to listen to them, I'll admit, but I feel like I can better hear the appeal of their music and sentiments. This is likely their most complete album, especially how Robert Smith merged their gothic and pop sensibilities together, and while it's too long for my liking, there's definitely an element of nostalgia for the various singles and radio hits interspersed among the dirge of "Disintegration". I'm also struck by how the lone upbeat(ish) track "Lovesong" could easily have been written/played by REM, as well as how tight "Lullaby" is, especially compared to the rest fo the album. They are definitely not to my taste, but if we only get one Cure album (and I know we don't, but still) this would be it.

Not a big Cure fan but this is a great album for wallowing in the stew of your own depressing juices.

Must have for any goth rock fan.

I can't say that I'm a huge fan of this band, but I like them, and this record is my favourite by far. It's just so moody and cool.

This lot need to cheer up. They should listen to house music or something

The bonus track situation accompanying this record was so excessive. This review is for the first disc only. Love this band.

There’s always been a handful of Cure singles I really like without ever really feeling the need to investigate their back catalogue further I realise now that they’re very much an album band as this works fantastically well as a piece of work Moody and atmospheric

I was a pretty big fan of The Cure when this album was released, but for some reason it didn't click for me at the time. It's definitely darker and moodier than its predecessor, with fewer, but lengthier tracks. I did like the singles from the album, though. Revisiting the album as a whole for the first time in who knows how long reveals that it's definitely one of the strongest releases in their catalog.

I don’t like The Cure, but this is a good album

Great, fantastically atmospheric album. Long but unique and with enough variety to stay interesting the whole time. The songs here are a bit low energy, which I’m not a huge fan of, but love this album either way.

Nothing about this should be changed. I’m sure this is exactly how this album should have turned out. I wouldn’t have made the songs so long. I feel like they could have cut the boring parts, but by no means should they have, if that makes sense. Iconic vocals, instrumentation, and writing. Really great entry and maybe one day I’d give this a perfect score, but not today. Sorry, Rob. 4/5

Great album, but the songs do blend together after a while Could be my fault for listening at the gym

Lovesong and Homesick very good

not quite 5 stars yet, I think I need one more listening

++: Plainsong, Pictures of You, Closedown, Lovesong, Last Dance, Lullaby, Fascination Street, Prayers for Rain, Disintegration +: The Same Deep Water as You, Homesick, Untitled 9,5/10

This is a terrific album. I just don’t want to add it to my list of five-star albums because I don’t want to listen to it over and over again. I totally understand why people love this album, I just don’t need any help feeling depressed.

This record slaps. But there is a lot of dead air. It's more than I remember and it hurts the record some.

My dad hates the cure but I think they’re cool

I gave this five stars originally, but I think I was a bit generous there. Yes you can tell this is clearly something special, but I haven't really come back to listen to it: I don't know if I like it enough for it to be a personal five stars. Lullaby, though, is phenomenal and has become one of my favourite songs.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1001 ALBUMS- # 36 Disintegrate your assumptions on the post-punk genre, as The Cure achieved something quite special with this late 80’s standout gem. Having never been particularly intrigued by Robert Smith’s goth rock persona and sombre vocals, afrer listening to this album for the first time in its entirety I must say I stand corrected! Yes- the sound textures are melancholic and desperate, however the instrumentation ties perfectly to the lyricism that is romantic, passionate and highly introspective. You can also hear a matured post-punk sensibility that pushes well beyond that of which the likes of Joy Division and PIL had pioneered a decade earlier. 🎧 Classic Track: Love Song 🎧 Deep Cut Gem: Prayers for Rain 🎧 Personal Favorite: Plainsong The singles here are timeless classics and the full breadth of the album will require multiple listens to really grab you, unless it was one associated with your coming of age as many others have cited (I was only 7 years old when it was released). Upon reflection it undoubtedly helped pave the way for the 90’s alt rock boom, following a string of albums that embedded The Cure as an aforementioned goth band. 🖼️ Album Artwork: The essence of visual introspection It’s a classic, just not quite tipping the scales all the way to a top rating. Hit the Thumbs Up icon below if you enjoyed my take on the album :)

More Cure? It feels like this whole list has been nothing but The Cure. I looked back though, and seems there was only one album before this? Anyway I like The Cure and this was no exception.

Love the cure!

.75 1 .75 .5 .75

Very cohesive. The instrumentals on 17 seconds took me by surprise, here they just do really long song openings before they sing. Anyway props for having an aesthetic and developing it. Lovesong a pretty great culmination of their various cure stuff.

Great album.

An album of love songs The intro music allows one to enjoy before hearing the lyrics. Loving this so far!

Really enjoyed this depressing album but also listened to the cure quite a bit as a kid cause my dad would play them a lot

A cool album, with really nice sound landscape. Not my favourite Cure album. 4.5 stars

Nice to listen but not quite my type

Never really was able to listen to The Cure, past their mos famous hits. Tried their albums quite some times, but never landed. This one was actually very nice and atmospheric, felt as an interesting prequel to early shoegaze & dreampop and inspriration to bands like Interpol

Nothing to dislike

Disintegration Tion Tion Shenema Tion Tion

A intense album creating a beautiful and broad soundscape, I visualise the sound of the album as a triangle, starting at the wide base and concluding at the pointed top.

Def better than the previous Cure album.

Not my favourite cure album but still very good

I think I finally get what this band is about, expectations were exceeded, looking forward to listening to this again sometime.

dunkel, düster, disintegration. hätte wohl nicht zu ende gehört wenn es nicht The Cure wäre. atmosphärisch dichter klangteppich, mit wenigen lichten momenten. und doch weltklasse!

Cure in Hochform! Zu recht das meist verkaufte Album von ihnen

Not my favorite by The Cure, though definitely up there.

I like it.

If I'm going to listen to the Cure, this is what I'll turn on.

I have heard some of their stuff before and thought they were okay but they were better than that and my rash judgment was proven wrong

Pretty good.

No notes

Quite a few songs I don't think I've heard. While very recognized, I don't know if the Cure gets recognized enough for their subtle and genius instrumental displays. Really enjoyed LULLABY, FASCINATION STREET and PRAYERS FOR RAIN.

Yeah, great stuff. I just love Robert Smith’s voice

Suggestive instrumentals that brings you in an another world

Great, nice soundscapey vibe to it. Quite dreary though

4+ Stars (12/15)

I never really gave The Cure an honest shot, and I'm enjoying this album a lot more than I thought. The vocals get a little whiny in some songs (Last Dance in particular got on my nerves), but this is a really solid album!

Classic Cure. I was never a huge Cure fan, but I always like what I hear from them. This album is the sound I think of when I think of The Cure. Mellow, spacey, somber. There are some really great tunes on here, Lullaby being my favorite. While this album doesn't blow you away, it is in a league of its own for the style. 4.

I was never a huge Cure fan as always found it tough to get into his voice. I have to say though that I'm impressed with this album. It's pretty moody with a lot of well placed synth parts. I liked the bass playing in a lot of it also. I dug Pictures of You and Fascination street. For myself not being huge on lyrics either I felt like a lot of the lyrics on this were poetic. The sound is a unique combination of a lot of elements synching up well together. Like them or not I am not sure that there's much out there that sounds like The Cure.

Very good listen, a soothing undertone which works well with his vocals. Liked it much more than the vibe in 'friday im in love'. Think they work better with this slower tempo.

What an increndible album. It sounds gloomy, atmospheric and intimate, specially in the second half of the album. The production is stellar. What an experience. I can see this being a 5 stars for me, but only time will tell.

This is the second Cure album I've got, after Pornography, which I wasn't a huge fan of. On first listen, I certainly found this better, but had a few gripes. I felt that, while it was very atmospheric, most of the tracks were just a bit too meandering. I would have said that the Cure is at their best when they're at their poppiest, when they get to the point, and to an extent I still think that's true. The first song that jumped out at me was "Lovesong", and it's a banger. On listening a few more times, I've come to appreciate the more textured, atmospheric tracks a bit more. I can close my eyes and get lost in both "The Same Deep Water as You" and "Untitled". Fav tracks: Lovesong, Lullaby, The Same Deep Water as You, Untitled

I enjoyed this album. 1st full listen to the album as well. I dig it.

Feels like long car rides with my dad when we've past the first 45 minutes of attempting to maintain conversation and are now all sitting in silence listening to the radio

I enjoyed this music very much

Great sound. I enjoyed this one more than Seventeen Seconds. Disintegration's songs are maybe kind of same-y but that didn't bother me so much here. With more time I think my rating on this one might go up. I recognized "Lovesong."

I must preface this review that it's Friday afternoon and I'm in a good mood. But.... who knew I was a Cure fan? I did not. I haven't listened to much, but sad I was missing out. Time to get into more GOTH ROCK. 4/5

Such a good listen, will be going back

This is a band that I probably got a feel for by cultural osmosis, I cannot recount how many times I've heard The Cure in dive bars or other places. Yet, this is the first time where I actually listened to an entire album. What I really enjoy about Disintegration are the layered textures and sounds that create such a dense but ethereal atmosphere. The delayed and chorus drenched guitars are hypnotizing. The Bass can be subtle but also really raunchy along with drums that linger on in the mix. Most tracks border on being menacing, beautiful, serene but yet very melancholic. It's honestly a unique mix that I enjoy. The vocals just fit perfectly into this ensemble. Did I enjoy this album? Well, I think it gets a bit self-indulgent at times and songs to drag on quite a bit which can be a drag. I found this record to be super long and some tracks wash into each other. If I was born earlier, I would probably have listened to this stuff endlessly and ponder about my romantic interestes in my bedroom, wallowig in angsty youthness.

Хорошо но грустно

Not sure if I listened to the whole thing, but I did enjoy it.

I think I’m cured

Lots of lowkey sad boy bangers on this one.

Having heard a few Cure songs in my life, I’ve never understood their cult following. After listening to this album, I get it now. I really enjoyed the journey this album took me on.

Sorry Kyle Brovlosky (https://youtu.be/5G5YguuNSJg?si=-sMadHfyHLI9cv04), but while this album has some great songs on it, it also drones on forever with some sadsack nonsense that nobody has time for. And if you’re going to sing about a spider monster that you freaked out about while tripping on goofballs you can’t call it “the spiderman.” There is already a Spider-Man and he doesn’t eat people. He is friendly and lives in a neighborhood.

I'd not self describe myself as a goth the way I did like 4 years ago when I first started to get into the genre and learn about the community, but it did make me discover some of my favorite music ever (and if I get Floodland in the future I might just write a thesis on how perfect that album is) and it still remains the music I seek whenever I feel up to it. Obviously, the Cure were huge for me during that era although I never felt like I was as into them like other people are, especially when my favorite albums are Seventeen Seconds and Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me as opposed to this one or Pornography. I do like Disintegration, I think it's a great album that I've probably listened so many times for years now but I feel as I grow older I just don't feel as hooked by it like many people are or how they swear by it like this absolute revelation of Goth music, I mean it does have some of the best songs ever (Lovesong, the title track) but when it comes to the whole album experience I just get tired from it, maybe it's how lush and slow it is and literally that might be it's biggest draw since it sounds so pretty but I don't get much out of Plainsong or Closedown or Prayers for Rain because they simply drag on in their ideas, they are nice ideas but again nothing I care about much to comeback to. I would have prefered more songs in the vein of the title track or Fascination Street or Lovesong but I also get they can't make them all like that and people do love the slow and lush sound so... what do I know? Ultimately, the album is great and enjoyable but not the one from The Cure's discography I look forward to revisiting all the time

immaculate + timelessly cool sound

I've tried to get into the Cure on a couple different occasions, but my aversion to the plasticity of 80s rock production always held me back a bit. this time, I think I'm much closer to a full appreciation. the atmosphere of Disintegration runs deep. like, cavernously so. the layers of guitars (especially the prominent Bass VI), synths and melodramatic vocals all add up to something really ornate and extravagant. the best songs take their sweet time, with most being around five minutes and others stretching out for as long as eight or nine. the band conjures a grandiosity that sometimes reminds me of later developments in post-rock. if I have any major complaint, it would be in regards to the 72-minute runtime of the CD issue. I'm into this album, but not the Seventy Two Minutes kind of into it. light 8/10.

Now this I can cry to.

ну база да

👍 Асоціюється в мене з початком весни.

After 2 songs, I thought this album was brilliant. After more, when that quality had tailed off, less so. A shorter album might have been more focused. But I like the vocal style of Robert Smith, and this album has some very high highlights.

Loved it

god i love the cure

I like their earlier stuff more, this one is always so hard to get all the way through. I’ve always liked groove/melody more than atmosphere so I’m sure that’s part of the disconnect. It’s starting to sound like I hate this album, it’s just one tier lower for personal enjoyment than the others. Rating: 4.4

I liked this album, I just think this isn't the time of year I'd really enjoy listening to it.

Very solemn, pleasant listen. Such a vibe.

Hmm. Yes.

Dark and glorious 80's mood.

Interesting, enjoyable (partial) listen even if not super my thing. Sounds like the rest of The Cure I've heard.

Good songwriting.

I enjoy the sweeping grand vistas of Robert Smith.

I didn't know The Cure was chill like this

Very good.

Really good. Dark and melodic.

Melodramatic, grand, and full of emotion. There is a sense of scale and fullness (for lack of a better term) that I haven’t heard on previous Cure albums, or many 80’s albums in general for that matter. The low end on “Prayers for Rain” that comes in at about 40 seconds is absolutely insane, it adds so much sonic mass and depth to the song. Then Robert Smith comes in with those echoey, delayed, reverb vocals. Wow! Fantastic production there. Then the vocal crescendos near the end of “Disintigration” really stuck with me too. So full of drama and longing. While it isn’t up my alley, I can’t deny that the cure stuck the landing with this one. Soft 4/5!
