Reviews (page 8 of 14)

I really liked this! Will check out more

Good background party

• 4/5 • coherent and cohesive mood throughout and every track is listenable • a couple of standout singles (Lovesong, Fascination Street), but the overall dour mood tempers my enthusiasm

Incredible piece of gothic rock that doesn’t quite stick the landing as the last three tracks leave something to be desired.

This was beautiful in a dark and gloomy way. Sonically very interesting with poignant lyrics. Evokes the feeling of staring out a rainy window and yearning for someone in the best way. Plainsong is a really fantastic opener to set the tone with a big sound and big feelings. Each song felt uniquely complex with a kind of depth and musical/lyrical exploration within. I wanted to keep listening. Who knew I like The Cure?!

Great album, really enjoyed it.

Ah, the legend that is Mr Smith. The Cure were never my absolute stone-cold favourites, but I've never had to "reach for the dial" to turn them off immediately either. Heavy on the bass and soaring keys - "Pictures of You" is the absolute stand out here. Although it does make me want to sit in a basement and drink absinthe and that's not always a good thing.

I liked it, but I got a little towards the end

Bardzo dobry album. Kilka piosenek do zapisania. 4/5

depresson

This is like my fifth time listening to this album, and I will say for sure that this really only works as a whole album experience. There's a mood that grows throughout the tracklist, that is hard to just drop into. The back half of this album is pretty prog, and I wasn't really expecting that. I think I like this album more now than I have in the past because I have done a ton of exploring in and around this genre since my first listen. I was prepared to rate this a 3, but when I finally finished it, I am happy to give it a 4. The final 2 songs really tie it all up nicely.

I’m in The Same Deep Water As You after listening to this little Lullaby.

I wish that I had listened to this as a mopey teenager.

Yeah. I kinda loved this.

Another great. The Cure are so well ingrained into my musical scene but have always been once removed. The shoegaze genre has always been bit dour for my taste and the albums were just before my time, but the quality if the hits has always cut through. I enjoyed this a lot even though a whole album can sometimes be a bit much.

Strong 4

Know this one well. One of my favorite bands because of the musicality they play with and the moody grooves they get the listener in to. The music comes first, no instrument dominates and even without vocals these would be groovy songs. This album is loaded with excellent songs that still get a ton of airplay, are covered by younger bands & have had a lasting impact on music & radio. "Pictures Of You", "Lovesong", "Lullaby" & "Fascination Street" are Cure staples. "Plainsong", a top notch instrumental, kicks the album off and sets the ethereal tone that allows listeners to get a feel for where this album is going to take them and says "relax and enjoy the ride". Even the glue songs like "Closedown", "Last Dance", "Prayers For Rain" & "Untitled" are great songs. I'm not sure if you need to be a Cure fan to enjoy them or not, I've been one since I was a kid so they're part of my musical DNA, but the musicianship is something you have to appreciate even if you don't love Robert Smith's vocals. Worthy of the Top 1001; listenable all the way through with no need to skip a track or two, influential, still has an impact on music & radio today + the musicianship is stellar! 4 stars

Ez 4.5

Look I’ve only taken a spin at one full album by The Cure and there’s a reason this one is it. It’s so rich and tremendous in scope while the melodies and tones feel like a fragile flower. And yeah, it’s dated, but not in a way that hurts. “Plainsong” and “Pictures of You” still hold as one of the best 1-2 punches to kick an album off, ever. Whole album is shoegaze before anyone really knew what it was, which also, see The Cure. But still the arrangements going into this are so much deeper than anything they did before or after. Lovesong is still such a sneaky great dark love song. Robert Smith had a way of making love songs or pop songs desperate, sexy and sinister at the same time. Annoying when they play it on the radio all the time but perfectly placed in the album. Lullaby is a masterpiece of gothic horror, bless you Robert, you absolute weirdo. Fascination Street is the closest to metal The Cure ever got but hot damn is it fantastic. One of their best. Also the way that the album just continues to descend into darkness and loneliness and despair - yes there’s some same-iness but there’s a concept here and I dig it. Someone could score a film to this album and it’d be pretty damn good. OK I’ll admit once we hit “Same Deep a water as You” it’s a little samey, things moving a bit slow. Second half drags though Robert is a desperate sad boy. “Homesick” is lovely though. And “Untitled” has its moments. The first half is so solid; the second wanders off instead. But still some of the most lush, intricate arrangements The Cure would ever do.

always find myself completely enthralled by the longer tracks on here, such effective mood-setting that I don't notice the time going by. essential my-mom-core

Consistently dark except the one hit Lovesong, but I expect nothing less from The Cure

4.5 stars! Dope AF

I liked this album a lot and I don't really like the Cure normally

8.5/10

I own this. Listened to it lots, back in the day

Listened to this 3 times while doing stuff for uni. didnt really stand out to me but loved the grungy vibe

I liked the album overall, but didn't get grabbed by any song in particular. It felt repetitive at times, but the vibe never got boring. Good instrumentals and fitting vocal work. I could see myself revisiting this one.

To me this is far and away the best Cure album. Can't quite go 5 stars though.

Synth pop! Yeah!

plainsong - you can def tell it’s an 80s kind of album. i love the drums and guitar, its very smooth. makes my brain feel nice. pictures of you - i love the sparkle effect, but this is so long lol. it’s very pretty though and slow! i also love the lead singer’s voice. the lyrics are also interesting. closedown - i didn’t really like this, it made me feel like i was in some weird disney channel movie lol love song - my fav. makes me think of alex! i also like 311’s cover of this one. it’s the most popular song, but i still like it. last dance - fun guitar lullaby - chill beat fascination street - i really like this one, it’s funky prayers for rain - slow song, i’d dance to this at night prolly the same deep water as you - lowkey sad, it kinda sounds like slowdive a little bit. disintegration - calm homesick - tlou sounding untitled - pretty as freak

Another one I've heard people rave about but I've never given it a chance. It sounds good... good enough for multiple listens. The sound is timeless (except for the cheesy 80s bass).

Man, this one was I don't know how close to being five stars. Well actually, I do know pretty much how close: about 25 minutes away. The atmosphere and emotion in all these tracks is second to none, but it just keeps and keeps going. If this had been the best 50 minutes instead of the entire 75 minutes (that's 33%!!!), it would have been near perfect. As it is, it will have to do with an honorary four stars.

I could take or leave the first 3rd of this album, but I really dig the final 2/3. Love that every song has a big intro- feels like goth jam band. Some songs the vocals absolutely hit for me, but the instrumentation & the production take this over the top. If I listened to this album when I was 13 I may have gone through a goth phase.

The best Cure songs but it's still a Cure album and is only superb when it's raining outside and you feel like crap about the world.

Feels like a mental breakdown

Another enjoyable album from The Cure. Sometimes the melancholy music is just what I need in the morning. I’m glad this list has gotten me to listen to full albums by some of the bands from youth I just knew by singles.

-woww holy shit okay I really like this… it’s expansive and heavy, but doesn’t feel overlong at all. the tracks sort of just fuse together and they’re all really beautiful -the instrumentation is sooo good, especially the really cold guitar tones. will need to listen to this again at some point -Favorites are Plainsong, Lullaby, and Praying For Rain

The Cure has always been a mystery to me. A hole in my pop culture knowledge. This album is moody, lush, gorgeous. It has hits and unexplored depths. This is what makes this project so much fun.

Fire, already listened

Beautiful, sumptuous, dark. A brilliant album from start to finish.

Great album.

I've had a lot of folk rock in the last week (which I do like but gets old), so this was a welcome change of genre. And it was interesting to think about how much music developed between the late 60s and the late 80s to lead to genre shifts like this! I've never listened to a full Cure album before, but it was a familiar and easy sound. "Lovesong" is a classic for a reason, and the overall album was very cohesive.

4 - I feel like I’m missing something with the cure, but I’ve been liking their stuff since I listened to their 2024 songs of a lost age album

super sick. loved the vibe of this

First time listening all the way through. Very good album.

This is a really nice album. Really nice. I love the guitars and everything. Really really nice.

sparkly af, all of the songs are meandering and cool a fun listen

This is a great album — Robert Smith and company can set a mood and atmosphere and take you somewhere over the course of an album. And while it sounds like I'm gushing, I'm not a massive fan. I mean, I like certain songs, and can dig the mood to a degree, but I don't necessarily connect with what sounds to me like a wash of despair that clouds this work. At least in this stage of their career. Early Cure has a different, more angular bend and I enjoy that more. So... a 4 because it's good music, even if this was never part of my Cure album collection.

I was never really into these guys, but my daughter is a big fan, and she's made me appreciate them more. Anyway, this album is a vibe, and I was there for it.

mica male i Cure, stica

gorgeous, como dicen los gringos

The freaking Cure, man. Hit me at the right time.

Quite enjoyed this one. There is no mistaking The Cure.

Some bops are getting laid on this.

Really good album that I have heard many times. This was the "smart kid" music back in the day. The deep kids would listen to this and think they were smarter than everyone else and that no one understood them. I'm sure the same thing happens these days with different bands. It's a great album that I will listen to many more times and remember how normal and boring of a kid I was.

Amazing album

Nice soundscape with synths, bass, drums and guitar. The singers voice wasn't to my liking in the first two songs but as I kept listening it found its place in the sound. Overall nice listening experience.

This was my first time really listening to the Cure! I found this dark and dreamy. Pretty cool gothic music.

Enkele niet zo, maar heerlijk tijdens leren

очень длинные интро бесят)) чуть однообразно а так — classy Lovesong в сердечко!

Each song tricks me into thinking that there won’t be any vocals, but I usually didn’t mind they were there.

The album is depressive, haunting and beautiful. Everything you want on a dark autumn afternoon. Unfortunately, it's quite long. A little too long, so it becomes tiring in the end. And that's the only negative thing about it.

At times reminiscent and always brooding, The Cure play their quintessential emotional music in true sonic beauty. Most of the album tends to flow well with the odd break for the singles which almost take you out of the moment, though they're great tracks too. It's really a good listen if you're in the right state if mind at the right time and in the right place.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would — the instrumentals on this album are SO gorgeous that they just kept pulling me back in. But Smith's voice is too dreary for me and the songs/album as a whole are too long for it to be 5 stars. I would listen to it again, though, and I'm especially glad to discover Plainsong, my favorite from the album.

I knew more Cure songs that I originally thought, and I think most are from this album lol. Was really good and nice sounding, if I could give it a 4.5 I would.

My dad is a massive Cure fan, so I have never known an un-Cured world. Disintegration wasn't his album, but Lullaby was played a lot when I was a kid. We were also a big comic book house, so I was always confused by the line "Spiderman is having me for dinner tonight." Spiderman is the good guy, so why is he eating Robert Smith? This made no sense to young Kit and troubled him greatly. My other early memory is the South Park episode where Mothra-Robert-Smith fights Mecha-Barbra-Streisand, and Kyle says that Disintegration is the best album ever. Is it? Read this review and find out. To preface, I like this album a lot and will be taking it song by song. - Plainsong: Very corny intro. Feels like a disney-fied Twin Peaks song. - Pictures of You: Similarly this one is heavier on the corn. I like it more but wouldnt choose to listen. - Closedown: The emerging theme here is that I don't like it when they use a major key. The Cure are a minor band, and anything major so far feels wrong. - Lovesong: I love Lovesong. The first minor song and I'm hooked. Its just as over the top and cheesy as the first three, but it works for me. - Last Dance: I love the heavy phaser/flanger guitar on that runs throughout this song. Good tune. - Lullaby: As mentioned, this is the song I knew earliest. This ones weird. Robert Smith sounds like he's talking right in your ear. Love it. - Fascination Street: When I revisited this album as an adult, this and Prayers for Rain were the two that stood out to me. I truly love the instrumentals on this. The jams sound huge and dark and enveloping. The vocals match perfectly. A+++ - Prayers for Rain: See notes on Fascination Street. - The Same Deep Water As You: Less driving than the last two, but a really nice sound to let wash over you. - Disintegration: Good riffs. I like all the extra harmonies and weird background stuff they do around the vocals. - Homesick: Instrumentally I love this one. The vocals are a little silly, especially when he starts going "doo'd doo doo'd doo doo" - Untitled: I find the accordian intro very inviting. It sounds like what would play at the end of a zelda game when you can finally go home again. The rest of the song is solid. Having gone song by song, I like this album less than I did in my head. I guess I just listen to the songs I like and skip the ones I don't, wiping them from my conception of this album. Its still great, but not 5 stars. Album cover: (C). The Cure's artwork has never done it for me, except for the one with a fridge and a lamp on a pink background. That one rocks.

So close to a 5 for me. Really cool album and it also happened to be the perfect vibe for how I felt this morning.

Liked it a lot, thought the melodies were soothing. Lovesing is the first song I danced to with Casey

The only thing is that saved this album were love song and fascination Street. The instrumental tracks on this album we're not interesting enough to be purely instrumental. And just honestly kind of a chore of a listen.

I initially balked at the runtime and average track length, but was glad to find the songs are patient in their sprawl and compelling. It's a beautiful record. I'm glad to have begun cracking my Cure egg. Highlights: Pictures of You, Lovesong, Lullaby, Fascination Street

Pre-listening thoughts: here’s my thing. And this is so embarrassing. I always get The Cure, The Smiths, and The Strokes mixed up and I could not tell you who is who. To me they all have the exact same fanbase except The Smiths fans are a tad more insufferable, The Strokes fans are a tad less vocal, and The Cure fans are a tad older. Post/during listening thoughts: this is very like atmospheric if that makes sense? Music that takes up a lot of dimension but in a really good way that still keeps me engaged versus like psychedelic stuff where I forget what I’m listening to. It’s a little long though. Honestly I really enjoyed this and would definitely seek out other material by The Cure. Call me old 7.5/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: no? Idk Fav tracks: Pictures of You, Lovesong, Lullaby, Fascination Street, Disintegration Least fav tracks: The Same Deep Water As You

Slow start. I wasn't feeling it in the early tracks as I was coming down from Seventeen Seconds (albums reviewed out of sequence!) but it kicked in and by the middle it struck a chord and finished well. I'll re-listen to this again to see if there was something I missed on the early tracks.

Excellent.

The Cure do a wonderful job of creating an atmosphere on this album. They drag you into their haze and it envelopes you. Twinkling guitar riffs over shimmering synths and brooding bass lines, with Robert Smith’s reflections echoing and reverberating all around. But it’s not just atmosphere, there are good songs and melodies, though there are many extended instrumentals too. It’s gloomy but it’s its quite warm and beautiful. It sounds like you were sad and took a little acid laying alone in your bed wrapped in a cozy blanket.

A lot of nice songs

Yo, I can fucks with some Cure! Prior to this, I really only knew "Friday I'm in love". This album is right up my alley. It's is a little long, but I really enjoyed it. It hit me in the right time and place.

Fairly enjoyable throughout with a nice sense of atmosphere

Love The Cure. This isn't my favourite thing they've ever done, but it's still better than most things around.

Really liked a few of the tracks: Pictures Of You, Lovesong, Lullaby. Fascination Street is also decent. And the whole album is a good listen. Interesting that the band was trying to get away from pop, to make something deep/lasting, and they ended up with their most successful album.

I don't have quite the nostalgia for the Cure that a lot of my friends do. My teen angst took a more grunge-centric form and it was only later that I really appreciated them. Still, no arguing that this isn't a great album.

Fav song: pictures of you, a tale of reminiscence of a loved one.

A consistently good album throughout, good enough for 4 stars or B after ny first listen.

One of my favorite albums.

i was very wrong about the cure, great album

Need a second listen to give it a thorough review. But I enjoyed it, it reminded me of Duran Duran.

All seemed like one song. Not a bad song though.

very good album

Some good stuff in here. "Lullaby" is particularly nice, musically and lyrically.

classic late 80s

I came in here ready to make jokes about goth clubs, but actually there’s a lot to like on this album. Pleasant surprise!

Solid tunes but they’re mostly too long by 2x.

Love This Album so much

I definitely like their pop songs better than the slower moody songs. There is some very nice playing here but I think I like the more spare music they were doing earlier in their career.

Apparently Robert Smith had a bit of a crisis of confidence approaching his 30th birthday, thinking that he would soon be past his creative peak. He wrote most of the material for this album on his own, working through his feelings of despair and the band added musical gloomscapes to them. The end result is oddly uplifting, when you remember that Bob is now happily in his sixties and still collaborating with bands who are less than half his age. Gothtastic!

Really good album; everything is in the atmospheres and the layers of guitars and effects. It's a bit long though.

Obviously love.

very atmospheric album, the production is perfect

Plainsong is an incredible opener. Loving each songs prolonged intro. Not a big fan of Lullaby.

an early favourite band of mine, super distinctive and unique

This is the best out of the three The Cure albums I've gotten. Same moody depressing atmospheric vibes going on, a bit monotone but well produced and put together as an album. My standard complaint on the length stands, the 7+ minute tracks at the end make it drag a bit. Stand-out: Lovesong, Disintegration

Good all the way through. I didn't know many of these songs beforehand. "Pictures of You" is a standout, but the album melds so well that I couldn't pick any more

The Cure really delivered with this album, one might even make the argument that it’s their best one. It’s a slow burn, but in a good way, it’s also got this vibe to it that is difficult to put into words, but it makes the album stand out. Wasn’t expecting to like it this much, solid 4/5

Sad and depressing rock is my bread and butter. Plus the instrumentation behind the whining is great. 4.5/5

Muy bueno

A huge album, and the Cure's best. 4.5ish.

A beautiful album that verges on just a bit too weepy, but that is The Cure and that is why we love them.

Ahh, nostalgia 💙

I like this Cure album better than the other album we had. This has a couple of my favorite Cure songs: Pictures of You and Love Song. I also like Lullaby , Fascination Street, and Disintegration. The rest of the album isn't that "catchy" but I like it. It's sorta moody and dreamy.

4.5/5. Robert Smith is the greatest person to ever live, ask Jesus. Disintegration is the best album ever!

8/16/24. Interesting album! I'm not the biggest Cure fan but understand the acclaim and why they have a huge following. Length was a bit long and slow, but loved the sounds explored here.

Definitely like this one a lot more than "Seventeen Seconds". This one is interesting because I listened to it multiple times before rating. I found with headphones on this is a 4 for me but when played out loud on speakers it drops to a 3. I think there is a lot of detail in the music that gets lost for me without headphones. It could be because my headphones are definitely better quality than my speakers, or it might be something about it being close to my ear making it easier to pick the details up. Regardless with the headphones on it's easy to get pleasantly lost in the gloomy soundscapes of this album. It's definitely an album for a specific mood. Perfect for a rainy fall/winter day/night. I love the way this album intros, and in general the intro to each song draws you in. "Plainsong", "Pictures of You", "Lovesong", "Lullaby", "Prayer for Rain", "The Same Deep Water as You" were all songs that stood out to me.

I definitely think if I listened to this a few more times I would really get into it. Sometimes one listen isn’t enough for these albums and this feels like one of those records where it feels unfair to rate it after only one listen. I enjoyed this much more than a lot of the recent picks I’ve had so it’s only right I rate this higher!

fav song: pictures of you

So this is why The Cure is so popular? You bloody misanthropes 4.5 Stars

I enjoyed revisiting this on a full listen vs just the radio hits. I liked the title track and Pictures of you. Rounding up for the mass appeal and influence at the time. 3.5/5

I love me some Cure. But even though this album seems to return the band back to the dreamy, droney, luscious sounds of their early early stuff…I can only be mopey for so long. Pictures of You and Lullaby are nice standouts and while I get its inclusion on the album for overall balance, Lovesong was so overplayed I’d probably be ok never hearing it again. The album is just a bit too long, and most likely gets a lower mark on the hope that their 1985 album “Head On The Door” makes the list and earns the top rating. 3.75/5

This album comes from an era of music that I mostly ignore, but I loved this. Sonically it’s great, arrangements are interesting, just a great listen. Def some sad boy songs here, but still.

There’s this great clip after The Cure was inducted into the Rock & Roll HoF where the interviewer enthusiastically asks Robert Smith, “Are you as excited as I am!” And he responds “umm, by the sounds of it, no.” So great. Also a pretty solid album. Love me some Pictures of You.

Obvi Pictures of You and Lovesong are great, but the album doesn’t ride to 5* level too me. Drags a bit and is simply too long. 4/5

Came to this late in life but how incredible!

A very good album

85% Best: Pictures of You, Lovesong, Lullaby, The Same Deep Water as You, Disintegration Must-Hear? Sure

solid album with a great soundscape. the production was cool and you can tell a lot of craft went into creating it. on the other hand, i felt like a lot of the songs dragged on and some of them had the tendency to drift into dull territory. that being said, i can see myself relistening in the future and having this one grow on me. as it stands right now, i felt it was good, but not great.

Pound for pound I think this is a better album than Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me. I think the songs on this album sound a little more timeless and a little less like someone was excited to get a Casio keyboard. (I love the cure, but some of their songs can sound dated.) some of my favorite songs are on this album and the rest of the tracks fill in very nicely. A great listen.

3.7/5, listened 1x.

I've never known how to take The Cure. I've always liked songs like Lovesong and Friday I'm In Love, but I never know if they're supposed to be pop or like new wave, serious or campy. I liked the songs on this album, but they really left me more confused about what The Cure is. But the music was still enjoyable. Four stars.

Really Good album.

Obviously, love song is amazing, but I was surprised by how much I could hear their influence on so many bands throughout. I would think, oh this sounds like _____ band but it’s really that they sound like the cure. Great album!

Reminds me of my youth!

Plenty of 5 star tracks on here, just a few slightly middling songs in the middle let it down. But mostly great. Best tracks - Lullaby & Same deep water as you .

Heard of the record before as a crown jewel in many peoples' eyes. It was mind blowing in sort of a psychedelic way and the synths were immaculate. It's only problem was it's length .

Great record! It aged well.

Great album. Some gorgeous sections, memorable hooks and perfect atmosphere.

Potentially my favourite Cure record, lush and indulgent misery music.

Really liked this one.

Oh dear. The Cure. Again. Why? A band I never really got the hang of. But. This has the one single song of theirs I truly appreciate, Lullaby. And Lovesong. And. Fuck me, this is a grand album overall and I wouldn't mind listening again, in fact, I kind of want to.

Love the Cure and their stomachache vocals. Very fun synth vibes. I particularly liked Pictures of You, the Same Deep Water As You, and Disintegration

Brilliant stuff. I think I'm a bit down on The Cure, even though I think every single one of their big singles is brilliant, including Pictures of You, from this record. It's got a great overall vibe to it, and a real consistency. It's also a rare hour plus album where you're disappointed when it's finished.

This album was such an influential part of my youth - an anthem. I love the whimsy, the moodiness, his stretched voice, bleakness, and, of course, the loneliness. If they didn’t exist, they would have had to have been invented. Hmmm, a warm blanket.

overall this album was great but the 71 minute runtime really works against it. if they Disintegrated a few minutes off of each track it'd be a much better album.

Pictures of you Lovesong Disintegration

Absolutely the best album for marinating in your own sadness.

Makes me feel nostalgic for a time that I wasn’t alive in. Great synths, catchy bass lines, classic guitar leads. Dreamy and atmospheric. I see why it’s a classic.

The cure has been growing on me this journey.

Rimelig fed stemning på pladen. Kunne meget bedre lide den end jeg havde regnet med.

The idea of "yearning" has been blowing up lately and as I listened to The Cure it made me realize they have got to be the originators - this album truly says "yearning". Lol.

Fine, not for me

Love it!

I found the first couple of songs a bit weak, but the album really got going by the time "Lovesong" and "Lullaby" blessed my ears. The album justifies its length pretty well, as there's a lot of great songs throughout the runtime. Though a few of them go on for a bit too long. But I do get what they're going for. e.g. the title track starts out as just alright, but just keeps on building and building until you can't help but get lost in the dark expanse of their beautiful soundscapes. I find that Robert Smiths voice can get a tad whiny sometimes, like on "Last Dance", but he is mostly a brilliant presence throughout the songs. I'm also not the biggest fan of that mushy, echoey 80s production, though it didn't diminish my enjoyment while listening. The beautiful sounds and the thick atmosphere they create greatly overshadow the minor gripes I have with the album. I enjoyed it very much and look forward to hearing more of their discography : )

Very good. I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. I love the overall sound/vibe on this album. A few five star moments here and there but not enough to get five for the entire album.

Once again, I was convinced we already covered this. And once again I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Another surprise is that I didn’t know this album, aside from the hits. I didn’t like it as much as like Head on the Door but some solid Cure sounds herein.

I never got into The Cure, but I liked this a lot. I might have to check out more.

Finally a good one! Beautifully atmospheric album that exhibits light and shade aplenty. Will definitely listen to again.

Not my taste but still a very good album

Plainsong 6/10 Pictures of you 8/10 Closedown 8/10 Lovesong 8.5/10 Last dance 8.5/10 Lullaby 7/10 Fascination street 8/10 Prayers for rain 9/10 The same deep water as you 7/10 Disintegration 9/10 Homesick 8/10 Untitled 7/10

Setting the tone for a generation and staying under the radar. Wonderful album

Great album.

I like the atmospheric quality they've added to their repertoire here. I actually enjoyed some of the deeper cuts much more than the hits on this album. Disintegration feels raw but also well-crafted, it's moody and borderline ambient mashed with shoegaze. The vocals are added in a way that you sometimes understand them or don't at all and they just blend into the orchestral quality of the production which is brilliant. I think this is peak The Cure. The instrumental parts also really shine. "Lullaby" is a great song if you can get past the creepy spider lyrics, I dig it. Forget everything you think you know about these guys and give this album a listen, very good.

Love the rock element very good

When I was in college my neighbors had black hair with a lot of hairspray and had stickers of the Cure all over their car. I was getting into hippie music and jam bands. This album sure doesn't seem like it's from 89, great sound songwriting and a trippy journey. Wonder what happened to the Curemobile??? 3.6

Hauntingly gorgeous. Disintegration gave us a mature version of The Cure. Fascination Street is still a musically interesting track all these years later. It takes a winding path that you feel more than you hear. The entire album stands the test of time.

Chilly, dreary, melancholy. Classic Cure, love it.

I hadn't properly sat down to listen to a Cure album before, and I'm glad I did. I loved the ambient feel of this.

Disintegration is a lush, atmospheric journey through the heart of the 80s; a sonic cathedral of sadness floating on an ocean of longing. The Cure always transports me right back in time. Not that especially want to go back all that often. Be brave, little broken teenage heart, it gets better!

The Helen of Troy moment for 90s Goths. 4/5

One thing everyone can say about The cure is that they definitely have their own style. And although it evolved a lot, their sound is hard to mistake with any other work.

I found it very chill to listen to with some songs to add to my study playlist

Not too familiar with the Cure but I enjoyed this a lot!

A little emo but I can hear the influence especially in the slow-indie/synth bands of 2010s like white lies and many more I’m not able to remember. Hard to fault. prayers for rain came in haaaard.

This is probably a pretty special album for a lot of people and definitely marks a moment in time. My second favourite cure album. Beautiful/gloomy sounds and lyrics. Love it!

really dug some songs but felt that the songs didn’t warrant their length. long intros on every song can be a little played out

Angsty, lush with iconic radio tracks. Everything I remember. And yet after listening, I streamed Viva Hate.

When it's good, it's great, but when it's long, it's too long.

favourite song: pictures of you very solid album, perhaps a little long for my taste but didnt particularly harm it.

Lo he escuchado por encima mientras "estudiaba". Soniditos chulos y raros, como que esotérico a muerte todo pero con mucho orden. Quizás demasiado. Pero fresco suena.

Fantastique

Really great deeply introspective album, Robert Smith composes such somber and emotion driven melodies to capture the audience attention. This album serves as a great plunge into the cure's emo/goth sound with such a fitting title.

I like The Cure. I think their achievements at their best are remarkable. Really interesting, hooky tunes that stick with you forever. At their worst they are repetitive, droning on with the same dreary idea. This album highlights both. Great tunes like Pictures of You and Lovesong, good tracks like Plainsong and Facination Street, but droning and ultimately boring moments like Prayers for Rain and Same Deep Water. This left me with about a 3.5/5, and being torn as to whether this is a 3 or 4 on this rating scale. But given the overall quality of their work, and the impact of this album at the time, I ‘m going with a four🤯

While I like this album and the vibe it has, I really only do like it. Maybe it's missing something for me, but I feel like there could be a bit more that we just aren't getting on this album.

Ganz klar Cure!

Bombastically serene opening, distant melodies like a rolling storm of electric strings.

Claustrophobic and gloomy, occasionally self indulgent, timeless and gorgeous.

You either love The Cure or you hate them. I don't think there's much middle ground. I'm in the former camp. This album was great and deserves a repeat listen. Still feels fresh even after all these years! Standout Tracks: Pictures of You, Lovesong, Lullaby, Disintegration

Already familiar with this one. Masterpiece. 4.5 on RYM

Excellent album

Long album, few classic and some fillers.

solid album. Some songs don't stick out like the others, but overall I enjoyed it.

Far more enjoyable than I anticipated. Felt very cohesive as an album

I've always like The Cure, they are so far removed from my normal musical tastes but there is just something about their music that I love. I don't think this is their best album, but it is still very good.

Album was brilliant!

I was worried this may not be their main album, because I don't think the The Cure is a band I can tolerate much more than I already have. That sounds much harsher than I mean it. I really like the nostalgic feel of the hits I've heard, but that is enough for me. Not everything can be emo all the time. However, reading the wiki notes says this was a return to that sound after a bit, so maybe I do need to find some other of their albums now. What to do. I liked Pictures and Lovesong before this and found a couple others afterwards so overall it was a successful listen. I always try to come out with at least a couple tracks for a mega playlist and I think I've got at least 4 here, and my rating has been a star per playlist track. Favorite track "Lovesong" 4/5

Undeniably the best Cure album

Really enjoyed this album for about ~40 minutes. It's moody, it's goth, it draws you in, it's entirely too long and self-indulgent. Woulda been 5 stars if it were about 2/3 of the length. 4/5

Atmospheric and melancholy. Made me think about my ex. I really liked some of the opening riffs

besta plata þeirra sem ég hef hlustað á.

Actually liked it, really long songs? Album has three editions?? And quite nice instrumentals

Credit where it's due, this is, so far, the seminal Cure album, where they demonstrate their value. Interesting that I got hit with them back to back to back, but this really worked for me in the back half.

Over the last ten or so days, I’ve got the Smiths, Depeche Mode, and the Cure, and I didn’t think I liked any of these bands and I gave them all 4. What is the meaning of this. What is happening to me

Excellent. Forgot how good this was.

Nr. 159/1001 Plainsong 4/5 Pictures of You 4/5 Closedown 4/5 Lovesong 4/5 Last Dance 4/5 Lullaby 3/5 Fascination Street 3/5 Prayers For Rain 3/5 The Same Deep Water As You 3/5 Disintegration 3/5 Homesick 3/5 Untitled 4/5 Average: 3,5 Really liked this.

I don't think anyone could argue this isn’t absolute peak Cure. Sound is instantly recognizable and hits very well.

Not a great Cure fan, but I really enjoyed this album.

Fairly long album with ups and downs. Definitely feels like a goth rock album, yet there’s songs like Lovesong that feel different. Overall a really solid listen, the type of album I use this for. Mega popular with certain groups, yet never came across to listen too.

The best album

Very different from their best known hits, still a pleasant listen

good sad music

The setting: A decrepit gothic cathedral. Dark, lit only by candles as a rolling fog obscures the moonlight. The crowd of emo babies stir as they hear the chimes foretelling the symbol crash of “Plainsong” that invites a dim stream of light to shine on the altar where Robert Smith stands. Kiefer Sutherland and his gang of vampires mill through the crowd, searching for their next meal as the band plays “Lullaby.” The storm clouds break open and unleash a torrent of rain (the candles stay lit, don’t worry about it) and “The Same Deep Water as You” begins. The opening chords of “Untitled” beckon the sun to slowly rise. With each ray of light, the band fades until all that remains is a lone harmonium on the altar. It is a VIBE!! 10/10 no notes. Wait, one note. The songs are entirely too long.

I was not in the mood for this but they got me in the mood. Beautiful Lullaby and Homesick, and a different, heavier kind of beautiful Prayers for Rain Really enjoyed the long instrumental intros. As often happens, I would probably like this even more if it was fully instrumental (I could almost cry to Homesick before vocals stepped in), but I'm not saying the vocals were bad, just not for me I guess Easily their best album on this list

Yesss!

Really enjoyed

Wasn't very familiar with The Cure (although the voice is usually identifiable), but really enjoyed this album and their music, right up my alley (aside from the quintessential 80s tracks LOL). Interested in more.

Moodiest thing i've ever heard and proper long songs. Sounded incredible though on my headphones, really nice production. Could've done with more up beat bops but i guess that's the whole point of The Cure back in those days.

10 Points per song = 96.5/120 | 80% Grade on the grade scale | B tier album A good album with the best song being Disintegration and the worst song being Lullaby. Lullaby itself not even being a bad song, just difficult to listen to as someone with audio processing issues. Disintegration earned its place as the title track in my opinion and is the only song I saved to my liked songs playlist As an overall album, it has a very depressing tone which makes sense for where the Lead of the band had been at that moment. That being said... its good, but definitely not for everybody

Very atmospheric album. The soundscape is beautiful. It gives out a great vibe. I like this album although there are few slow songs. Definitely worth the listen.

Very interesting and different album. I know some of the songs, but most are new to me. I liked it

I don’t love the cure but I do like them.

favourite tracks: lovesong, lullaby found the beginning a little slow to start (very atmospheric). felt a little directionless at times, though i guess that's the style. enjoyed the middle of the album most.

Really liked this. This is in my Cure sweet spot I think, before it gets too pop

great album! didn't hit me as hard as unknown pleasures and a bit too long but i totally get why this is such a big deal.

gothic, cinematic - feels weirdly nostalgic?? Feels like a good album to brood around in the rain to big sync gems in Plainsong

The album starts with windchimes! I'm enjoying it, but the album starts to run together when listening idly.

I didn't expect to like this because somehow I had a negative image of The Cure (but I don't know where that came from). I was wrong - this was a great album for me. I especially liked Pictures of You.

This was an album that was sort of teetering between 2 and 3 stars for me on my first listen. It just sounded like a 70 minute soundscape to me without very much noticeable variation. On my second listen it started to open up a bit more and I was able to hear some discernible songs. From perusing the wiki I think I need to listen to some OLDER cure so that I can understand a little better where this album is coming from (and perhaps where it's going?)

Very good, around a 7,5/10, definetly going to listen to sometime again.

Album cover used to scare me as a child. Good album though

This album is main character walking the streets in deep emotional thought. I don’t know why I just always felt like anyone the loves the cure is just like so much cooler than I could ever be. Love the synth. The lyrics to Lovesong are some of the simplest, most romantic words and Smith makes it sound so unrequited.

The more I listen to The Cure, the more I likey.

Klasik bir albüm, klasik şarkılar. Post Punk ve Gotik tarzdaki soundları ile popüler kültürde de yer edinmiş hoş parçalara sahip

The Top was the last album I had from The Cure. I loved their darker sound, but then the success changed that a lot, and I lost interest in them. I missed Disintegration as an album. I knew some titles like Lullaby or Homesick, but I never listened to this album before.

Every song sounded pretty similar, but I think that's the point. This is definitely a relaxing album, while also having a pretty emo feel to it

I've never listened to The Cure and I feel like a nerd but I really like this. Plainsong really sets a mood to feel people to listen more or turn this off. I like a lot of the noise work going on behind the scenes on it. They are a bit too synthy but it was the time, can't overly fault them. The honest part of me knows parts of this are too long and drawn-out but today I'm here for it. I really appreciate an album that feels like the people who made it really felt the emotions they are trying to portray. I could see myself relistening to this when I'm in the mood but likely just as a whole album vs song by song. Lovesong almost doesn't fit in but also kind of grounds the album. Really do enjoy the feeling of it.

This is well done and there are some songs I don't mind like Pictures of You and Prayers for Rain. It's just not something I can see my self giving a lot of repeat listens. It's some of the best version of the 80s sound that I don't care for. There would be a time and place for this. Maybe night driving.

-Songs feel kind of angsty -Enjoy the soothing feel -Soft but powerful -Don't like the two-minute instrumental intros -Love the synth and overall beat in Lovesong

Moody, melodic.

slow music with a sad sound. happy lyrics sung in a sad way. not for everyone and personally not a fan but i did not mind it.

If I was 17, this would have resulted in a distinct goth phase.

Shout out to goth girls 🖤 this one’s for u

Shmägä, om det var bara alla bangers sku de va 5 men lite långt, stark 4

Not the best one by The Cure, but a solid, nice collection of songs by this classic band. Like it!

I liked

Very moody, atmospheric goth rock/new wave with some dream pop. It's one of those albums that has a distinctive late 80s sound but despite of it it doesn't sound dated at all. It's a great album, though I find it a bit too long (anything that are over 55-minutes/1 hour are too long).

Would be a 5 if it was half the length, too many repetitive long parts

pretty solid but a lot of it sounded the same. it was good though so not bothersome. didn’t love the vocals but did love a lot of the instrumentals

The best of what the Cure can do, beautifully melancholic and almost baroque. “Lovesong” is an all-timer.

Superb! Love the sound of this album. Whilst a fan of the band, this is an album that escaped me. A definite for all record collections.

Pretty good.

Very good record not my favorite, but very good

8/10 Real good one this Knew the greatest hits but this is the first album I’ve heard No pop bangers, not a bad thing as it has a coherent style and vibe, dark alternative goth rock Extremely well produced, big filling sound and the synth added a lot to it Best: Pictures of

His singing could be a bit whiny at times, but this is a very solid and atmospheric album

A great one. Very spicy!

Most accessible cure album I've heard, and super good

good: lyrics, instrumentals, one of the best opening songs to an album bad: some songs don’t quite resonate with me fav song: plainsong least fav song: lullaby 9/10 very very very good

Oscuro y evocador, alejado de lo más comercial de su producción. 4/5.

Classic 80’s

Was really torn between a 4 & a 5 but settled on a 4 on my second listen thru as I found the second half of the album to be a little weaker (FYI i listened 3 times since this was on the list last week). But god damn there are some bangers on this album right here. I’ve listened to Pictures of You like 50 times since i first listened last week. Lovesong, untitled all ripping. Easily the best Cure album. Definitely will come back to album probably monthly

This is a great album but mood has to be right for it

Great, fantastic, beautiful goth rock.

My wife adores the Cure, we had a blast singing along with our daughter today. Fantastic suggestion.

8/10 Had never listened to the cures full album. Will relisten to this great album

It's well made, but it's all a little dreary, isn't it? And the back part of the album drags on far too long...four songs in half an hour? Give me a break! That said, the singles here are great, and remembered fondly for a reason. I know this album is beloved, but though I like it, I don't know if I consider a 5-star album the way many others do.

too depressed to listen again

Great album from a top band

Tbh not my fave cure album, but still so great

I mean goddamn… I had listened to this album before and thought it was really good, but listening again I realize just how truly epic this thing is. Such an amazing sonic experience. It’s like darkness & pop & melodrama & and searing heights of emotion & cool musical textures.

This is really really awesome. What i appreciate most about the cure is how they arent afraid of any sound and fully embrace the spectrum of rock and that shows here. They created entire soundscapes with this album. Def my favorite of theirs so far.

A bloody brilliant piece of legenday musicianship.

gloomy, yearning gothic rock entirely made by its deliciously realized atmosphere and robert smith’s desperate crooning. loved every second of it.

Pretty good emotional gothic rock.

I got this album in the few days before starting the group so hopefully I can rescore this. I gave it a 3, which is wrong this is a 4. The lush instrumentals are gorgeous, even if the lyrics are depressing as hell. Fav tracks: - Pictures of You - Prayers for Rain - The Same Deep Water as You - Disintegration

Wow, my first artist repeat, 30 days in! I just got \"Seventeen Seconds\" last week, excited to continue filling in a musical blind-spot with this album, perhaps the Cure's most beloved/critically acclaimed work. I certainly have seen this album cover a lot. First song that I immediately recognize is \"Lovesong\" -- one of my mom's favorites. Have to keep this review kind of short, but I really enjoyed this album, with all of its moodiness, still very fun to listen to somehow. I can see myself returning to this one for sure.

Like im stuck in a swamp

Nice shoegaze..overstayed it's welcome maybe in terms of album length Definitely merit to doing this as an album, there is a clear personality and distinction between different tracks on the album

Lovesong!

Hard to be unbiased on this one. Pretty sure every girl I ever dated got a mixed tape with "Lovesong" on it... This was my first real exposure to the Cure. A few songs real stretch the limits of my attention span, 9+ minutes can either feel repetitive or overly jammy. The overarching haunting sound ties all the songs together, making it easy to listen from start to finish.

The Cure is great, and this is obviously one of their best albums. Musically and lyrically they’re at their best here. My favorite tracks are “Pictures of You,” “Lovesong,” “Fascination Street,” “Homesick,” and “Untitled.” My biggest gripe with this album is the length of some of the songs, but overall it’s solid.

Gerade einer der weniger gehören Songs (nur 9 Millionen Wiedergaben - those are rookie numbers) "The Same Deep Water As You" hat mir irgendwie besonders gut gefallen. Rating: 4 / 5 ⭐

This was a major high school album for me.

A few amazing songs and absolute vibes! Great album.

Lots of build up in songs. Songs I'll take from the album: Pictures of You is gorgeous. Fascination Street upbeat and fun. Prayers for Rain. Untitled. 3.5/5

Great album.

i really like how floaty and spacey this feels. I'm so glad this was the next album, it feels like a cleanse after yesterday's album being as bad as it was.

Dreamy dark synths, a bit repetitive. Favorite song pictures of hbyou

I enjoyed this album.

The massive 44-track deluxe edition of Disintegration by The Cure was a great first album to suggest for #1001albums. Formed in 1976, The Cure is a killer British band known for their genre-defying blend of post-punk, gothic rock, and new wave elements. They've significantly influenced the alternative rock scene and popular culture with their distinctive aesthetic and emotive themes. Their innovative style, coupled with their commercial success, notably with the album 'Disintegration', has inspired countless bands and artists. Their music deals with feelings of alienation, longing, and introspection, provides solace and understanding, and solidifying The Cure's enduring resonance with listeners.

Holy synths. Lots of wind chimes. Cool space-y vibes. Love all the long instrumental intros that build and add layers as it progresses.

I have always liked The Cure and this album is no different. (A Forest has been one of my favourite songs my entire life). I enjoyed this album with a couple of familiar tracks. Listens: 2 Fave Track: Lovesong Rating: 4

Track 1: I like the atmosphere of the song and the intro I wish the vocals were mixed better. Track 2:I liked this song a lot. Track 3: good bass and drums. Track 4: pretty good getting the sound of the album. Track 5: catchy at the end. Track 6: like the bass and strings in this. Track 7: I like the synth and bass right in the beginning. Track 8: I like the vibe of this Track 9: okay but my favorite but like the storm. Track 10: it was okay kinda long Track 11: this song was alright too Track 12: okay ender Overall: 8.5/10 really good and solid album would listen to it again.

One of their best. Love the drum sound (esp. on Closedown) and the swirling guitars (esp. on Fascination Street). Love Song, Lullaby, Pictures of You are all great. Last Dance, Homesick, and Untitled could be lobbed off to tighten it up. When CDs first came out - the max length was 72 minutes. This album is 72 minutes…so they basically added two scraps as bonus tracks and made the album worse.
