Loved it! Amazing pace and lyrics
Great album. Every song is good. Favorites include: Missing Pieces, Sixteen Saltines, Freedom at 21, Love Interruption, Blunderbuss, Hypocritical Kiss, Weep Themselves to Sleep, Hip Poor Boy, On and On and On, Take Me With You When You Go.
Excellent Replay definitely
I'm astounded by how much I liked this album. It basically takes the core template of The White Stripes, but adds richer orchestration and instrumentation (generally for good, but admittedly sometimes for bad) and a somewhat broader palette of songwriting - in fact, I would say that song-for-song this is a strong a set as anything that Jack put together in for The White Stripes (though it doesn't rock quite as hard and the riffology isn't at the same level). A great rock record I likely would have missed if not for this list.
Raaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!*!&!&@^#&#^. This man is just pure talent wow wow wooooooow. I love him wtf. All the songs are so good. Songs just wrapped me with their vibes and I was just following. ILOVEITTTT. and I will love even more later hahahahah. Yep 5/5 no words. Meaning of the songs too. They are just perfect for me.
Jack White has such an awesome and unique voice and I've loved hearing it since I was younger. I struggled to find a reason this album isn't a 5/5. So 5/5.
4.7
Great rock album! Honestly, not a bad track on here. Going on 15 year old and still feels current. Strong guitar riffs and a unique sound. Highlights: "Sixteen Saltines", "Love Interruption" and "Trash Tongue Talker"
You already know what this is 😛
Jack White's solo debut is a masterclass in restless creativity. Blunderbuss tears through blues, country, and rock with generational guitar work and songwriting that's equal parts raw and refined. A bold, brilliant statement from one of rock's true originals.
Incredible album front to back, super cool blend of genres and eras, just the right amount of bite while leaving it open to downshift into some country and western type songs.
I didn't know what to expect from a Jack White solo album. It's definitely not the same as The White Stripes, but it's still really good. Jack White has become one of my favorite musicians because of this generator.
I did not realise i was missing out on jack white my whole life. 5 stars to this, loved it
I really like Jack White and I really enjoyed this album. His style and vocals are amazing but the lyrics really just smash it out the park! A great album with so many great tracks
A demonstration that a guitar slinger can do far more
One of the top guitarists in the world. Unique and gifted.
God is Jack White good. Some nice bluesy tracks with no weakness. White's written some incredible stuff here, but for me that cover of "I'm Shakin'" just steals the show. So much damn fun it gets me moving every time
Ho ky tonk white stripes without meg
I’ve been listening to Jack White for almost 25 years now, going all the way back to The White Stripes, and he never gets old to me. He’s always felt consistently cool, and I really love his commitment to a lo-fi, garage-rock spirit. I also love his guitar — raw, expressive, and full of character. On Blunderbuss, that attitude is still very much alive. Tracks like Sixteen Saltines, I’m Shakin’, and Love is blindness stand out to me in particular — energetic, rough around the edges, and unmistakably Jack White.
I do like this album. It's got a great vibe to it. I like most things that Jack White puts out.
Ripper - Jack whites start to the 2nd big phase of his career, incredible guitar playing and catchy tunes.
THIS IS SO GOOD. Listened to it twice through. I've always had thing against Jack White. I don't know why. Turns out it's stopped me from listening to some cracking music.
I'm gonna look further into Jack after that masterpiece.
banger. even the slow ones were upbeat
Really nice sound. Can't believe this was released in 2012. Need to research more of Jack's lore.
Great slbum
first 5 star album :)
Oh my god I love this. This has absolutely zero business being this good. How didnt I know about this before. I feel like I can hear a bit of fiona apple in some of the songs??
I can't help myself. I love everything Jack White does.
Standout tracks: Blunderbuss I’m Shakin Sixteen Saltines Love Interruption Hypocritical Kiss Very much pleasantly surprised by this album.
Ok I get the hype for this one. Each song feels so different. The arrangements are interesting but a lot of them are still catchy. This will go on rotation
Nú er ég búinn að staldra vel við þessa plötu í circa viku og er nú loksins að geta skilið við hana til að halda áfram með verkefnið. Elska þennan hljóðheim og þetta attitude, og lögin eru flest frábær.
Honestly mad that I hadn’t made time for this one sooner
4.5/5 à reecouter
This shit rocks. Is Jack White better by himself??? Maybe! This is so good. This feels like it crossea many different genre styles too! Solid 4.5. Maybe 5. 4.75? Liked Songs: "Missing Pieces" , "Sixteen Saltines" , "Freedome At 21" , "Blunderbuss" , "Hypocritical Kiss" , "I'm Shakin' " , "Trash Tongue Talker" , "Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy" , "I Guess I Should Go To Sleep" , "Take Me With You When You Go"
Nostalgia factor is high here, but gotta be a 5 for JWIII
Excellent album!
This is a strange one for me. I am actually going to give this 5, even if I didn't love every song on this album. In fact, there were a series I thought were good, but not amazing. However, what I did love was the way he blended throw back elements with modern music to create something that I found to be pretty original. In short, I was intrigued enough by all of this to listen to it three times and found that the more I heard a track, the more I liked what he did. Definitely a worthy inclusion. Rare for music of the last 10-15 years.
Sublime. I think this is his best across all his wonderful iterations. There's a hint of country, vaudeville, a fantastic cover and of course some serious rock and roll. Brilliant lyrics, evocative, Lennon like. Blunderbuss is straight out country, 16 Saltines punches you in the face, Hypocritical Kiss sounds like a 21st century Kurt Weill. Good god a mighty this is a great record and worthy of a place in this or any process. Sublime.
not a bad song on here really good album the slow and fast pacing adds good variety
first album on this that ive already heard. an excellent album that will always be special to me
Jack is such a weirdo but his music is no skips
Loved it
J'adore Jack White et surtout ses premiers albums que j'ai bien poncé, vraiment banger celui là notamment
Well this one was a pleasant surprise. This album's awesome! Only listened to a bit of White Stripes before and definitely not his solo work and discovered an excellent album here.
ахуенно, напоминает мне мои прошлые редфлаг отношения. возможно, я не уловил посыл, но уловил вайб: fuck you, stupid ex!)0)1
I'm a fan of Jack White's various projects, so I'm a bit biased, but having never listened to this album all the way through before, I really enjoyed it.
Jack White is an under appreciated musician and song writer. He’s on the same label as the best there has ever been. His passion for the recording arts should be more well known and celebrated. This dude has his own unique sound and style just like other great guitarists. That is no small feat. You know within a few notes of a song of it’s a Jimi Hendrix, Slash, EVH, SRV, Jimmy Paige, BB Kimg, Eric Clapton, etc. The same goes for Jack White. He is unique and an amazing talent. This album is good old rock and roll with a heavy blues base. So stylish and unique. A great album indeed!
The Good: We are taking the bus! The Bad: Apparently it’s a mistake... The Ugly: Our dyslexia is fucking with us… Ok, so when this album presented itself this morning, my initial reaction was “ah, fuck”… You see, for me, Jack White means White Strypes, which in turn means 7 Nation Army, and nothing else… So, as I was hoping to find 1 more 7NA while ready to press the skip button for all other songs, I was more than pleasantly surprised with this gem of an album. I guess mr Dimery was right for ones… Then again, the styles being used on the album are straight up my alley. Anyway, great/fun/worthwhile album to include to any list! 5*
Jack White continually puts out solid composed modern rock where others just fall flat. 9/10
Sometimes you just find an album that hits you perfectly. This is one of those for me. I love every song on here and will regularly listen from T to B without a thought. Love it.
Banger after banger. Reminds me of prime Bowie
Jack White is a legend. His guitar playing is just so interesting. The drums and piano are also phenominal on this album. Blunderbuss is a super strong debut solo album. White is really good at mashing hard rock with blues. Throw in the piano (which I actually think is the star of this album) and the vibes are great. Loooved the piano on "Hypocritical Kiss." Even his slower tracks have a good groove to them. I think White is an incredible musician and he does a lot of good for the industry. Standouts are "Sixteen Saltines" "Love Interruption" "Weep Themselves To Sleep" "Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy" and "On And On And On" - I love the vocal and piano melodies on this one. At first, I thought something about Blunderbuss is just missing to make it truly great. It's a really good album, but nothing about it is like holy crap, yeah thats 5 stars. I dont know why but it fell just short for me. Maybe its the weird filter White puts his voice through sometimes, although i dont mind it. But sitting on it for a bit, I came around. A lot of the songs are just damn catchy and fun. It's pretty great, and I want to listen to it again. I bet it gets better every listen. It's a Friday album so maybe I'll have the chance to! It's a 5 for me!
A sonic sifting Through decades of rock and roll In a few words - bliss
Mjög góð plata! Verður áfram í hlustun hjá mér!
Jack White er minn maður og ég fíla þetta. Platan fær ca. 4.8 frá mér.
I had to listen to this again to remind me what songs were on it. Much more consistently good than lazaretto. I really like this one. Some potential skips in the middle but the start is fantastic. Giga album.
Pretty good
So, Jack White has earned my respect with this album. I've always thought Jack and the White Stripes were overrated and listening to TWS albums here didn't change that. However, Blunderbuss is a whole different beast. From crushing blues rock to beautiful mellow melodies, this album kicks ass. Jack's singing style works for this kind of music and he has and incredible talent for driving and catchy choruses. His guitar playing is raw and symplistic and it doesn't need to be anything else. 5/5, I was really surprised. I can finally somewhat understand why so many people like his music.
Great mellow Jack White
An album I own. Probably his best.
Just another super creative and well done album by Jack White. 4.5/5.0: Excellent
Love it
❤️
Good jamz
I really liked this album. Favorite songs were Blunderbuss and Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy. I will definitely be checking out his other albums and also The White Stripes, and The Raconteurs, both of which he founded (or helped found)
Great album start to finish
It's hard to avoid comparing this album with his White Stripes albums - the style is sighly different, especially the drumming, but it's just as good, if not better.
great album!
Jack White brings the heat! For a man who looks like a vampire, he sure can rock out. What a fantastic album, every song had such a unique sound. Nothing slowed down in creativity, from the guitar, the wickedly placed piano and the strong lyrics. It takes a lot for a 5 star review (probably stemming from my picky music taste) but this album gets it for sure, hands down!
Honestly, an excellent journey the whole way through. Beatles-esque in places, definitely not in other places. Same-y in the sense that all his songs are good, but different enough from track to track that it doesn't feel like you're listening to one long song. Five star albums for me make it into my everyday listening rotation, and this one does for sure.
Look, I'm a unabashed Jack White fanboy. He's my favorite musician ever. I have every album of his, seen him in concert, watched documentaries, own shirts, etc. That being said is this really an album you must hear before you die? One of the best 1,000 or so albums of all time? This is probably his 3rd best solo album. Whatever it's still getting 5 starts from me no matter what. Just gonna shut up and take the W when I get one. 10/10
I'm pretty biased when it comes to these album reviews. I'm a huge fan of The White Stripes, so it would only make sense that I also enjoy Jack White's solo music. Every song off of this album was reminiscent of The White Stripes and I'm all for it.
Jack White is a boss. Love his work.
🌟 Rating: 4.4/5 🎧 Short Review: This album is like if an electric guitar got dumped and started journaling. Jack White goes full mad scientist here—blending blues, country, baroque pop, and hissy fits into one chaotic love letter to heartbreak. 🔥 Favorite Track: “Love Interruption” It sounds like someone trying to seduce a ghost with a tambourine and an emotional breakdown. ⚙️ Consistency With Me: 8.6/10 Jack White and I both like to deconstruct things until they’re weird and compelling—he just does it with instruments and I do it with your personality flaws. Would listen again. Ideally while dramatically fixing a vintage typewriter with no real plan.
Great album
Certified banger after certified banger.
Jack White being Jack White for the first time solo created a wonderfully eclectic sound. I’d only heard a song or two of this album previously. I will definitely listen cover to cover again!
Love this album one of his best.
Raw guitar sound
Oh, I bought this album on release. Fantastic album. Nearly as good as Elephant. Missing Pieces? Great Sixteen saltines? Also great. Freedom at 21? Great melody Love Interuption? Sweet. Every song is unique, Jack White is supremely talented Even the weaker songs on this album swing. There's also a story here. Our singer starts the album angry, becomes morose through the middle and so forth. Easy 5* album.
Really nice and different
Love this album, and just saw him a week ago.
p934. 2012. 5 stars. Fabulous white blues/rock. Not a weak track on this.
This is a great album but hard for me to understand why he broke away from Meg for this, especially since the album feels like a follow up to Icky Thump. Still a great compilation just a weird departure but should be in your playlist
This was an excellent listen and I loved everything about it. Jack White doesn't seem to have a single "sound", but he does it all -- odd time signatures, 4/4, even a 3/4 tune or two. His instrumentation was varied and the performances (vocal and instrumental) were all perfect. It was recorded impeccably and the writing shows depth and sophistication while also being super down-to-earth and easy to listen to. I was humming along the entire time and I listened to it twice in its entirety because I loved it so much. Five stars.
Great music! A unique style with great guitar and piano work, subtle gospel influence and interesting compositipns. Loved it
Absolutely great. Loved the sound, interesting mix of rock and beatles-type music. Some really groovy songs. Didn’t like white stripes album but this was a pleasant surprise
Missing pieces, Blunderbuss, Hypocritical kiss. Really unique tunes. Thoroughly enjoyed. The background piano elevated the experience. The instrumentals were top notch.
Relatable album well written.
This is a total banger!
Jeg behøver ikke at lytte til dagens album, den sidder allerede så langt under huden som en 5er kan.
Jack White leger sig rundt i alle de forskellige ærke amerikanske genre.
This guy never runs out of creative juice squeezed from the great American songbooks. Future editions could probably replace this one with “No Name” but still A masterclass in emotional range and sonic invention.
I listened to this while driving my daughter to her boyfriend’s apartment. It was pretty good.
I really enjoyed this album.
Bangers all. Love Interruption 🙌🏻
I liked this one so much. I listened to it multiple times and recommended it to other people.
"Sixteen saltines" alone pulls the score to 5. I am writing this only 2 songs in and have 0 doubts that the whole album will deliver. Everything Jack does is up to a really high standart and i love seeing this one on the list.
I'm glad he's still making music. 5 stars
The torch bearer of rock and blues proves that there's life in a genre that's 70 years old.
This has nothing to do with how I felt about the album, but while I was listening to it and taking notes, I was watching a looping video heavily tinted blue of a record spinning. It just felt wrong not to have that in my peripheral vision while I had this thing on. After all, they related to two of things I've always liked about Jack White: the consistent as hell color motifs in his works, and his passion for vinyl records. As someone who's long had an interest in branding and physical media, of course he's been someone I've had in mind for a while now. So then why is this only the first time I've listened to his actual music? Well, his **solo** music, to be clear. Of course I've heard The White Stripes before; who hasn't? At this point it can't be easy to avoid hearing "Seven Nation Army". And in fact, my familiarity with The White Stripes might be why I've taken so long to scoop Jack's work under his own name. I couldn't imagine what he could offer me that I couldn't get or didn't already have from the Stripes. Frankly, judging a book by its color scheme, I'd always assumed Jack's solo work was... Like, "serious," y'know? That there wouldn't be any fun "Ball And Biscuit" shenanigans here, but instead moody, serious, indie-ish music. That's just always how stuff like BOARDING HOUSE REACH came across to me. But that album came out **many** years after this one did. Let's focus on this one: what does it sound like? OK, so, the goal of The White Stripes, to me at least, was to bring rock and blues back to its roots. And I mean, it's absolute primitive, bare-minimum roots: a guitar, drums, and a voice. There'd be some augmentation sometimes, like maybe a piano here and there, but for the most part it was just those three instruments, no more, no less. That was their appeal; that they were so stripped back, raw and **loud**. I mean, heck, the band's whole sound was built around Meg White's basic drumming style — and I mean "basic" as the biggest compliment I can. That sound carries over to this album (or at least it's first three tracks), but it's way more evolved. There's more instruments in the mix, and the drumming is a bit more complex. If the whole album sounded like this, I would've quite liked it. True, it wouldn't hit as hard as some of the best Stripes tracks do, but at least it would've proved to me that Jack White didn't stray **too far** into "serious music" — at least not to start with. However, the whole album doesn't sound like that. Starting with the title track, there's a country/folk influence that starts seeping in and only gets stronger as the album goes on. And it's some good-ass country/folk influence, too. Like, the pedal steel on the title track and "On And On And On" are **so damn good**. Honestly, following track 4 I heard only one more true dip into blues music, and that was with the cover of "I'm Shakin'". Funny enough, it was also the first track where I openly thought "This doesn't sound like White Stripes with extras" — thank the guitar bounce for that. But if there's anything that got me goin' wild on this album, it's the **piano**. The piano on this thing is, like... Incredible. Just plain incredible. Like, seriously, looking at my notes, most of them are just me pointing out how much I liked the piano — especially on "Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy". Paired together with that mandolin, it, ah, just might be my favorite song on the album. Which, y'know, that's **saying something** given how much I was dazzled by the keys on "On And On And On". Seriously, it is not **not** a battle for my favorite song on here, I swear. Also, also, 'coz I don't know where else to fit this in, I like how much "I Guess I Should Go To Sleep" sounds like it should be playing in an old saloon. That's just fun, y'know? Once again, this Randomizer has gotten me to kick myself in the butt for not checking out someone's work sooner. And it's especially bad here because despite basing way too much of my preconceptions on how one album cover looked, I had no excuse — and let's not act like what I just said is one, either. In fact, while I was writing this review I went and listened to Spotify's samples of BOARDING HOUSE REACH and, yeah, no, I'd love this, too. I'm tellin' yah, aesthetics can do way too much for my opinions sometimes, goodness... So, yeah, that's a big ol' 5 from me. It's good-ass evolved Stripes blues, it's good-ass folk n' country rock... I have very little to complain about here. **And** it gets me to listen to ELEPHANT, and that ain't never a bad thing, lemme tell you. (Honestly, some part of me would've found it funny to give this thing a 3 just for the bit, but I ain't gonna lie about my feelings just to be funny, so...)
I’m at a 4.5 that I’ll bump up to a 5. Perhaps a bit of hypocrisy from me to dock Faith No More for being a little too close to the Peppers, and for me to bump this up when this “Jack White” guy is clearly ripping off the White Stripes, but when you’ve got it, you’ve got it, and this album, despite how closely it toes the line to being a vaguely misogynistic set of tracks, manages to tightrope its way into having it. In all seriousness, it is at a 4.5 for that very reason – the instrumentation, vocal work, and general production would put this at a flat 5 for me, because it really is enough of a departure from the more “glamorous” rock stylings of the White Stripes (probably partially Meg’s finishing touch to Jack’s sensibilities) to a more cutdown, vaguely country / ragtime-y feel that takes a bit more inspiration from the 60s & 70s to create a more distinct, yet familiar sound. Similar enough that you could just call this a White Stripes album, but with enough of Jack’s own voice to really make this feel like a solo album. The issue with not giving this a flat 5 then, is of course Jack’s own voice – the lyricism on these tracks really do tow a fine line for me; never into full blown pre-19th Amendment sexism or anything, but just right on that edge of subtle, vague gaslighting & blame with a hint of reasonable doubt. It does feel like Jack is blaming a lot of the seemingly biographical incidents on this album on women in general; even if Meg is never mentioned, this being his first solo album after the disbandment of the White Stripes leaves a bit of room to point in that direction. It doesn’t help that he got divorced the year after this dropped. However, I might just be projecting my own interpretation onto these tracks, and I can’t imagine Jack White is actually like that at all – at worst, this album just hasn’t aged very well lyrically in an era where women’s empowerment is more encouraged & vague swipes like this come across as petty with a lack of real self-reflection. Musically, the album is a delight to listen to, and its quality is kind of undeniable (ESPECIALLY the piano work). It is a damn good record, and I do think it’s worth bumping it up to a 5 – there really isn’t a bad track here, and the wide variety of styles plus the energy he brings to each track makes it a really enjoyable 42 minutes. I had a lot of fun with it at least, & it's probably no less than a 4.
Awesome!
Chill album.
hell yeaa. meglepetesekkel teli album, fun. én mondjuk az éneket máshogy effektezném.
Kedvenc/Favourite: I'm Shakin' Tetszett, mennyire változatos volt. Nagyon élvezhető, tele ötletekkel, történetekkel, nagyon kis groovy. Jó értelemben movie soundtrack vibeok. I liked how diverse it was. Very enjoyable, full of ideas, stories, very groovy. Movie soundtrack vibes in a good way.
5 - an album were everything is great. There’s not any singular song that blows you away but as a whole it’s a fantastic album
Solid songwriting, full of fun jams. Got behind on this list cause I wasn't done listening to this album.
Now, not my favourite record from Jack White, but as the only one on this list from him I'll allow myself to inflate the rating a bit. At the end of the year I always find myself surprised that I've listened to more Jack White than I thought, and majority of his project sound like a perfectly controlled noise. Multiple instruments, uncommon structures, working out great in the end. Even if I question if the guy doesn't have a bit of an ego, he's pretty good at what he does, he does unconventional things and they all work out. Even this album feels like it has great pacing, even if all the songs are pretty different.
Loved this album. Started in the car and was unsure at first, but mowed the lawn and really focused in on the second listen and fully bought in. Great album, very good reminiscent songwriting reminding me of magic Beatles moments. Catchy hooks and riffs. All over great album, will come back to this again
This is Jack White in his top form - diverse songs, solid production, and great performances. This might be the best album he was ever involved with, and I can't believe how many of these tracks I recognized. It's really refreshing to hear a record with jazz/blues/rock influence that isn't just ripping off existing artists. It feels like Jack brings his own flavor to everything, and it makes the record that much better as a whole. It's white boy blues, but done right. However, my only complaint is that some of the tracks towards the end leave something to be desired, tending to grow stale after a bit. 9/10
I like it!!! 4.5 rounded up
slaps, would be an awesome vinyl
One my fav artist and album
Bangers all the way through
Excellent. Love the white stripes. Love jack white
Not the best album by Jack White but I just couldn’t give it a 4 star - I’d say 4 1/2 stars if that was allowed.
Loved it. I actually think it is better than the White Stripes.
Jack White is a modern hero of Rock and Roll. This album is no different to the rest of his work. Travelling across, rock, blues, country and binding it all together to make masterpieces.
Hero
This is a little hyperbolic but Jack White stands out to me in a pretty singular way as an artist who is able to take direct inspiration from old black blues artists but in a way that feels more like respect than exploitation. And I think he's got a pretty great take on the concept of "cool" -- somehow it doesn't seem like an ego thing. Like he seems more like a theater kid to me than a douche bag. Authenticity also comes through in how he handled so much of the writing and production. Can't help but feel grateful to his contribution to rock and roll. I guess I don't have much to say about this album specifically, other than pretty much every track kicks mondo ass.
9/10 Jack White to jest mistrz. Charakterystyczny wokal i wrażliwość. Charyzma. Vibe wczesnych 10'. Soczyste riffy, żonglerka instrumentami i mocne teksty. Można słuchać w kółko.
I started to make notes about specific songs, but really I just loved the whole album. It was unique and different and great.
Yes! This is the best I've heard from this artist. This rocks! Loved the instrumentation. Mostly bass, guitar, drums & piano. Simple but every song is different. Creative. Pretty solid album. Great playing.
This is super rockin...I dig his music style. It took a minute to appreciate and then got better and better with each listen. I'm Shakin' is a party! Apparently that's a cover. Love all the piano in the album. Adds a unique touch to all the rock and roll. Fun lyrics too. Great stuff!
Fantastic fucking album, Jack White is a National treasure. We should erect monuments to his status as an artist.
I have not heard this album yet. It's definitely much more musically broad than the White Stripes. I enjoyed it and will listen to it again in the future.
Jack White's career is extensive and diverse: from his start with the White Stripes, work with the Raconteurs, work with the Dead Weather, then his solo albums, and then his work as a producer. His is one of the most extensive and impactful careers in modern music - and he is still a fairly young man. Blunderbuss is White's debut solo album, and it is as interesting and varied as White's career. White makes blues based, alt rock, with elements of folk, country, and hints of jazz. These are rich, varied, textured songs, with the range of sounds and styles that Jack White incorporates. The result is incredible - a set of successful, expressive, beautiful musical experiments.
Great album! A little more unique than the Jack White albums.
Classic Jack White, can’t believe this one is 12 years old! Still sounds incredible! I’ve always been inspired by White’s brilliant songwriting and wild guitar experimentation which this album perfectly highlights. Another easy 5 for me.
Love this. Musically very strong, lyrically brilliant in places (Missing Pieces, Blunderbuss, On and On and On)..
Loved this! Not sure how it’s passed me by for over a decade.
In my opinion, the best album Jack White has released to date. Everything comes together, and it's a clear departure from his other projects while keeping that trademark Jack-O charm. His playing is far from flashy, but there's no need when the songs sound as sincere as on Blunderbuss. And the lyrics are equal parts hilarious and brutal: 'You're the boy that talks but says nothin' A big game to the ones that you think will believe you, But you don't know how to read The look on my face when it says, "yeah I've read that book too" And who the hell's impressed by you? I want names of the people that we know that are fallin' for this You would sell your own mother out And then betray your dead brother with another hypocritical kiss' Oof.
5 stars. Great album.
Fantastic album. I love Jack White, he's such a great guitarist and I think he really pushes the genre. It's always that basic blues but I love that he's still doing it and making it interesting and new. Some bangers on this album. I once played Love Interruption at an open mic at uni. I listened to this album so much when it came, BANGER
Just listen to the last song to realize there are no cheap throwaways on this album. Clever and interesting throughout. 4.5
Love the white stripes and Jack White. This album is other banger from him.
Really enjoyed this
I'll have 1 Jack White album with the lot please. Every song is so very different. I love the heavy contrast transition from Weep Themselves To Sleep to I'm Shakin'. I loved this album as a whole far more than it's individual tracks, which alone are good, but so much more as an album.
Great album not a bad track
No private spotify session used on this one, I have listened to it many times before. I like it, White's guitar work is a lot of fun and this album rocks in general.
An instant classic as I added 10 songs right off the bat to my playlist....
Loved this album since it came out! Fun and upbeat.
4.5 - Think I'm becoming a fan of Jack White. I was put off when I was young, he just looked really greasy. This album was fucking great though
One of Jack White's best, super solid variety of all of the best aspects of his style and sound. Love this album, and if it wasn't clear by now he's just one of my favorite artists hands down so maybe I'm biased but I love pretty much all of his work.
Dit was ook weer fantastisch, geef ik teveel 5's?
I've returned multiple times for the bluesy, barroom-style playing. Jack gets a 5.
Was amazing, loved it
Rock on freaky bro 🤟
5/5
Outstanding. Every song.
Fav: Missing Pieces Least Fav: Take Me With You When You Go
Excellent album. A blend of blues, folk and rock that sounds like it could have only been made by Jack White. The piano in particular sounds great. The production throughout is spectacular. I love those bursts of fuzzed out hard rock guitars on certain songs. Front to back great songs but some of my favorites are the punk-sounding "Sixteen Saltines," the blues rocker "I'm Shakin'" and the epic drama of "Weep Themselves to Sleep."
While I prefer his projects more than his solo albums, this has grown into a classic. It's aged very well. Easy 9/10
Finally. A great album all the way through.
Eminent album. Melankolsk, stemningsfuldt. En “vibe” ala noget Stones. Album er føjet til min egen favoritliste.
I don't really have anything bad to say about this one. It's well written, easygoing but not boring and earnest but not pretentious.
this album was actually pretty good! yet another guy i haven't heard of and i really dig his modern take on blues music, it's VERY soulful and introspective. the way that a lot of songs are arranged and sung seriously reminds me of similar blues and even yacht rock songs from the 1970s; this guy nails the style to a T.
Grwat
I had this CD (or possibly still have this CD somewhere, maybe in a shoebox in a closet - no longer have a CD player). I really enjoyed the piano accompaniment on "Weep Themselves to Sleep" and "Trash Tongue Talker", also the ragtime like sounds in "Hip Eponymous Poor Boy". Love how the songs evolve, for example the way it takes off at the 2 minute mark in "Take Me With You When You Go". Love the fact that I still find this album intriguing 12 years later. Thanks Jack!
Amazing album. Jack white sure is a master at his craft
The Blunderbuss the best lyrics u could understand and relate to i thinks this is a very good album i think that because the lyrics is something u could understand my second reason is because also the lyrics is something that tells you the story and wanna know what happend? who did it? why are you feeling this way? its just good i also love the instruments and everything I recommend it 100% because the lyrics and instrument the album song names will just pull you into the song
Strongest album I’ve had since starting this. Jack White at his absolute genius. Fav Songs: Missing Pieces, Sixteen Saltines, & Take Me With You When You Go.
Outstanding. I've never heard this album before yesterday. It really blew me away. It will get repeated listening from me. Road trip music for sure.
Love a good use of the classical piano
4.5. Damn. This guy is so good.
Of all of Jack White's solo works, I've enjoyed this the most. It feels the most in touch with his White Stripes roots, but despite its range is so clearly missing Meg's influence.
Went back and listened to the White Stripes records (who I had written off) and have loved Jack Whites progression. His records will be in regular rotation now! Blunderbuss doesn’t disappoint!
Awesome
This is like a perfect 4.5-star album for me, where I so rarely want to listen to the whole thing that I forget how good the good tracks are.
Great guitar chops. My kinda music.
Album 3 of 1001 Jack White - Blunderbuss Rating : 5 / 5
I enjoyed it. It's funny that he's prolific enough to have his voice prominently features in the shuffle that followed that conclusion of the album
Love this. Saw him touring it live and it was great. 5 from me
Already listened and love this album brings me back to high school. Always been a Jack White fan and seeing how he did with his solo stuff after the white stripes was not surprised by how cool the overdriven guitars, the Bluegrass violin. All of it rocks
A blistering , red hot, rock and blues album with some killer memorable tracks. 9.6/10 Best Tracks: "Sixteen Saltines" "Love Interruption" "Hypocritical Kiss" "Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boys" "I Guess I Should Go to Sleep"
Really great, a modern classic
Front to back, all strong compositions. You can hear his love for Roots and Blues in every song.
I feel like Jack White is one of only a handful of artists who are able to play such a wide variety of different rock genres, and genuinely nail every single one in a genuinely ambitious and respectful way Beck would be another great example and I’m not a fan of John Mayer, but he seems to kind of be there? anyway, this album is a 10/10 - loved every song :)
I'm pretty sure this is my favorite Jack White album. There are many perfect White Stripes albums and he went on the have a cool solo career while also just being a crazy cool dude. No notes.
8 / 10 Grandes guitarras, gran instrumentación y la voz peculiar de Jack White. Su mejor álbum en solitario.
Absolutely fantastic classic. Wow. Bigger fan of this than any White Stripes. Killer talent demonstrating classic rock/blues sounds.
4.8 r exceptional
I like Jack White.
I enjoyed this quite a bit! A happy surprise!
I guess I am a fan of the work of Jack White...at least what this project has made me familiar with.
I know this is weird but Blunderbuss is the album that brought me back to rock music after about 15 years of listening to nothing but showtunes. I'd pretty much missed the White Stripes and didn't really know who Jack White was when I caught a performance of Love Interruption on a talk show and positively swooned at the opening notes of the organ and guitar and the soulful harmonies. White pulls off the throwback sound of the album with ease, like he's channeling music from another time. I think this one's pretty great.
I’ve liked all the White Stripes stuff I’ve listened to, so I had high hopes for this album. It did not disappoint. Great!
For my money, Jack White is one of the finest songwriters to ever live. Maybe song creator might be a better title than just writer. Acting as the producer and mixer of this album, as well as multi-instrumentalist, his finger prints are all over this album. Pure joyful genius.
Overall, this is a great album. To me, it has the perfect mix of keys, guitar, drums along with the unique voice of JW. You can't get bored from track to track. Lyric are interesting and good harmonies and background vocals are included. There are just a few songs I don't need to hear again but 9/13 I love. Not my favorite album of his, but a firm recommendation from me to listen to it. Love that he seems to include some influences from early rock artists The Killer and Elvis in some songs. I see all stars when I see Jack White.
I’m very familiar with this one. Love it. So creative and loud. He’s a legend, a guitar god.
I’m generally a fan of most of Jack White’s projects, and it seemed like he held the reins and had most of the creative control with The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and The Dead Weather, but that’s even more the case on Blunderbuss. Prior to the release of this album, I wasn’t super impressed by “Sixteen Saltines” (it’s now grown on me more), and I was concerned that White wasn’t going to be able to make something as great as his old stuff without a backing band (even though one of those bands was just one additional person). But I was corrected in multiple ways: the amount of talent on this album is immense, all brought together by White and, yes, under his complete creative control. And the music recorded is all fantastic. It’s like a mix of the amazing songwriting of The White Stripes plus but with crisp production added. I know that not everyone loves that because Jack White became synonymous with garage rock and a sort of lo-fi style of production, but I think the fine engineering on Blunderbuss is for the better. I had the pleasure of seeing Jack White live touring for this album at the inaugural Firefly Festival in 2012; he and his band put on a great show. There were some snags with the sound not working great, but after they sorted it out, everything was perfect. I’ll never forget the end of that night, when all the concertgoers were filtering out of the festival grounds to the tents or parking lot all chanting “Seven Nation Army”.
For me , this record incites several mixed responses from me . First I was very shocked to learn that this was not pre-1990 since i thought the sound was very synonymous with those eras of rock. In terms of the tracklisting , the record started off very strong fell of in the middle and trying to make something of an end to it. But my biggest contrast was me loving the instrumentation so much but not giving a care about the lyrics. But somehow I liked very much compared to other similar records I've been recommended
Wow! Wasn't sure what to expect from his solo album. Not a bad song on the entire album! 5/5
Prime Jack White material. The album that kickstarted my love for what he's doing.
Great use of Instruments and background voice work
Already a fav.
Heard before Saved 11/13 Top track: Sixteen Saltines
Leuk!!
Großartig Alternative Rock Album
Jack has all sorts of projects out there. He keeps rock alive.
Amazing debut solo album. It stands apart from the White Stripes, but had the same flavor. It's only fault it's being outshined by Lazaretto. I haven't really revisited this album since then. It has held up and is still a neat perfect album in my opinion.
It is a great album.
One of my favorite albums by one of my favorite artists.
Yes
I’ve never really delved into Jack White and I don’t know why. He’s really good. This music makes me feel like there’s an army of history and influences behind it.
I loved this! It made me want to see Jack White live and listen to more of his music. What a talent
Love it when an album I already know shows up. Jack White is the exact right mix of real weird and insanely talented.
Jack White is such a special dude. I feel like I enjoy everything he has ever released. So in touch with his instrumentation, finding a collection of experimental sounds that all work together to create his signature style. I am especially excited about how well the keyboards and guitars interact throughout the album, and as always, the different levels of guitar distortion used throughout the album. This is an album I always have in my library and really enjoy listening time and time again. Less sensational than some of the White Stripes catalogue, but a high-quality release nonetheless. 4.5/5, rounded up. Fave tracks: Sixteen Saltines, Freedom At 21, Love Interruption, I'm Shakin'
Love this album! Notable tracks: Sixteen Saltines I'm Shakin'
YAAAAASSSS.
This was a really great blues rock album from Jack White. I already had an album from The White Stripes and that was pretty good as well, but I honestly think this was way better. I enjoyed almost every tracks and will definitely listen to it again. I highly recommend this album, especially for fans of rock music! Favorite Song(s): "Missing Pieces", "Sixteen Saltines", "Freedom at 21", "Love Interruption", "Blunderbuss"
Love this album start to finish, already on my full album listening rota. 5/5
Very varied album.
One of my favourite artists, with his solo debut, was always going to score highly. I'm not 100% sure it deserves full marks, but I'm damn sure that's what it is getting. He has such power to create a vision or a world, especially here where he doesn't need to compromise even a little. Some tracks are fairly raw, and great, and others have had a bit more production put into them, and are also great!
I love Jack white and this album is great.
its jack.....thats enough
It's Jack....
9/10
maneiro demais
Listened to this stuck at a train station
It’s Jack White, awesome album!!!
high energy, deep melodies!
Love Jack White. ❤️
Classic alternative indie
Thoroughly enjoyed it!
No misses, went by very quickly and smoothly, enjoyed it a lot.
I love Jack White and this has that classic Jack white feel. I was going to go with 4* but then thought better of it.
Juvenile lyrics, solid blues!
Nice
A perfectly executed blues rock album. Up and down blues meets thoughtful composition and expert instrumentation. Loved this despite usually eye rolling at the thought of Jack white
He's a bit pretentious, but Jack rocks. Love the variety of styles and instrumentation. This is pretty much a perfect album. Easy 5.
So, I guess with Meg out of the picture, Jack felt he could experiment more, since their sound had been defined by their two instruments. The opening track, with the Rhodes piano up-front, is great starter. “Sixteen Saltines” with its big guitar is a bit of a return to the rockier White Stripes sound and the more accessible sounds of the next few tracks no doubt led to the album going platinum in Canada and gold other countries. My favourites are the less-played songs that follow the LP’s one cover, “I’m Shaking” (if you’re going to play only one cover, that’s a good choice). They’re more eclectic and borrow from different styles, Progressive Folk, Country Rock with a focus on lyrics, structure, and diverse instruments, reaffirming his departure from The White Stripes sound. This reminds me a bit of Arctic Monkeys singer, Alex Turner going off and forming Last Shadow Puppets to experiment with different styles with positive results. Like Turner, Jack’s song-writing is great, as are the arrangements. He’s one of the great new(ish) talents out there.
Not my kind of music 5stars for it anyway
I was pleasently surprised with this one. When the iconic Sixteen Saltines came on I thought I was on a ride through a White Stripes album but as it played further I was left with a bunch of really good Folk/Country/Rock songs wotch was a nice switch of pace. Jack White is criminally underated. I might even dare say it's a White Stripes album if Elton John produces it. And that's a compliment. Weep Themselves to Sleep express this feeling the best. The mix of all those different genres are amazing. Truly a record that everybody jeeds to hear at least once.
I'm starting to think this site is run by Jack White, given the frequency we see his stuff at. Anyway, good stuff as usual from Mr. W. I particularly like the skittering guitar solo (duo?) in Weep Themselves to Sleep
Guitar god. Goof.
I vow.
Cool as hell, really moody stuff at times but has so much depth and variety. Brilliant stuff
this album is fantastic Jack White kills it
4.5. Absolutely love this album. Pillar during my last jr high/ early high school days
Classy rock'n'roll, like the retro stuff.
I very thoroughly enjoy the diversity this album brings; each track is different from the other. Great album, though I don't think any specific tracks really hooked me. Insane riffs though, really like all the piano parts.
I was at one of his concerts with some friends, and we weren’t exactly sober. At one point, right after a fucking epic guitar solo, the song dropped into a rest - the whole crowd holding its breath for the mythical figure that is Jack White - and two of my friends bellowed VERY NICE in full Borat voice.
Blues Rock and Alternative at its finest. The bold guitar and stomping drums make a perfect "here I come!" attitude. This album is way closer to Dead Weather than White Stripes, and serves a rich palette of instrumental and expressive variety! The songs go in wild directions, with dusty, rough blues tunes, carnival madness, and borderline riffs that range from soothing to jarring.
Excellent! I love Jack's brand of modern blues rock, and his voice is as unique as his guitar tone. The album is a potent mix of riff based blues rock numbers and ballads. I dig the use of keyboards and piano here, like in the nearly-over-the-top "Weep Themselves to Sleep". All in all, lots of moments that made me smile, headbang or just feel groovy. Might become a 5 in the future. 4/5 - excellent
Big Jack White fan, summary of this is good but not great.
4.5
I've always really liked this album.
Almost gave this a 2 for being a bland, flat, boring blues record. But a second listen with headphones really helped it out. Gonna give it a 4 for benefit of the doubt, but probably more of a strong 2
Love this album
Is this seriously 1k1 material? I love JW. No question he belongs in the neighborhood. He is in fact thrice on the list already. Just strikes me as odd. Dig the record tho: 3.5
7/10 very cool album
Listen out of order since Spotify licensing shenanigans
Top 2 des albums solos de Jacques Blanc.
Didn’t have a huge effect on me this album I must admit. In one ear out the other really. Wasn’t bad but wasn’t particularly memorable. Specific rating- 3.8 Fav song- missing pieces Least fav - hypocritical kiss
It's hopping
pretty cool 3 saved songs and unique rifs. moody but happy
Incredible album. Admittedly this was my least favorite record of his before relistening. After a full Relisten again years later, I noticed the incredible instrumentation and variety of different genres backed into this album. This quickly became my favorite record of his. Top songs: take me with you, blunderbuss, freedom at 21
Some of it's way too much
some songs rly sweeet, low k not my vibe heavy thi
Something about this album itches my brain good. The lyrics are on point, instrumentals do not overpower the lyrics and you can hear the emotions in the voice. I love his voice, it definitely adds a certain charm to the album. Favourite song in the album - Blunderbuss/Weep themselves to sleep No. of favourited songs - 2/13 Rating - 4/5
Jack White is one of my favorite Guitarist but for some reason this album just doesn’t have a 5 star sound or feel to it for me. Its great but not that.
I should listen to Jack White much more regularly. If I had been less of a grown up by the time The White Stripes really hit, I think I would have been fairly obsessed with them and would have listened to them and Jack solo way more than I currently do. As it is, while I own all the White Stripes albums and most of Jack’s, I don’t feel they receive as much of my ear time as they deserve. There’s quality in every track here. Jack has good ideas and executes them excellently. The band all seem amazing, and it is recorded and produced beautifully. It’s a pretty strong recipe for a good album. I want one of my takeaways from this to be “listen to more Jack White”
4.5
Nostalgic
Really great instrumental and vocal sound. I really enjoyed this from start to finish. 4 side of a 4.5.
Favourite Songs: I'm Shakin' Trash Tongue Talker
Magnificent. Loved it. Some songs are grandiose and baroque if that word can describe them. It reminds me of neil diamond and the first billy joel record. It's great.
4 stars
The first two tracks were a little meh but then it improved, or at least sounded enough like other things I like (echoes of Led Zeppelin??) to round up to 4.
I liked it, its good.
Surprised me... Away from pure garage rock with Genre mix and tribute to legends like rolling Stones or Zeppelin
As much as I love The White Stripes for their simple & powerful riffs, this album just hits so much harder. The more intricate guitar lines and drums with Jack White's iconic vocals (underlined with some great harmonies) make his solo debut a fucking blast. I'm not a fan of the more blues-y or folk-y tracks on this record but I still enjoyed listening to it all the way through. Favourite tracks: Missing Pieces, Sixteen Saltines, Freedom At 21, Weep Themselves To Sleep, On And On And On 4.5/5
I loved this album! What a nice surprise. Jack White has proven how valid he is as a guitarist and now for me truly as a musician in his own right, I really enjoyed this record
Me pareció sorprendentemente hermoso, lo disfruté bastante
Awesome!
El tipo que con dos o tres boludeces te arma un temazo mostrando que en cada proyecto, con su impronta, la clava. Álbum que gasté cuando salió como pocos. Hoy, con el tiempo, me sigue gustando aunque sin tanta intensidad. 7/10
1. Good instrumentation 2. Not a huge fan of Jack White's voice, personal preference
Great album
Eccentric arrangements, sharp-edged basslines, distorted mics and that deep south vibe. Those electric pianos on 'Love Interruption' and those quirky-yet-impactful lyrics. That vibe in 'I'm Shakin'... This album really knows how to blend rock with a soulful groove. 4 stars.
Jack, I love you..
Enjoyed this and may well give it another listen. Quirky, musically interesting
i’ve heard this before. been a while though. don’t remember it well. incredible opening. very good. oddly dense? i love im shakin so much.
We all know Meg didn’t make the band, but The White Stripes just had a magic to them that isn’t present elsewhere. I know that’s not logical, but Jacks talent translates well in his other projects, but the impact isn’t quite the same.
Very nice. Loved the variety of styles and throwback vibes
Decent. Very decent. My first listen to Jack White after the Stripes. Thanks.
Me gustó el sonido, las canciones, la mezcla de rock, blues, folk....
Surprised I’ve never listened to this before, I really enjoyed it
the black keys could never
i'd say you get what you expect from a jack white album
nice gitarrs, annoying voice
I like Jack White a lot. This was a pretty damn solid album. But I'm not sure why this is the one that made this list. What I like is that his songs are diverse and he isn't afraid to take chances.
