YAS so good, a classic
Enjoyed that
Intriguing! Jack White would appear to be something of a genius - and a prolific content producer. I by contrast am nerdy nobody record reviewer - oh well. Does this album hang together? Not sure. Definitely contains some interesting/impressive songs - but I feel a slight ennui, like he could turn in 5 songs a day without breaking a sweat, so does he really "mean it"? (Would he remember all of these songs to play them live in 10 years time? Yes, quite possibly.) Would I like these better if it was a concept album?? Side point time. "On April 1, 2012, Third Man Records released 1000 helium balloons attached to flexi disc copies of 'Freedom at 21'. Third Man Records described the stunt as 'an experiment exploring non-traditional forms of record distribution and a way to get records in the hands of people who don't visit record shops'." Not sure if I can sensibly hold this against the album as an album, but it's yuck. (Seems like Third Man Records was a Jack White show?) 2012 is a thoroughly late year to be so careless about putting detritus in the sky ... Overall, for the quality of individual songs, I'll rate it Very Good, 8/10.
Thoroughly enjoyed this album. He brings a bunch of different styles together and his voice is somehow on key and nice while also being super unique. I need to listen to more Jack White. Fave songs: Missing Pieces, Love Interruption
Actually a great album. Top song: Trash Tongue Talker. Honorable mentions to old favs: sixteen saltines, I’m shakin’ (karaoke song??), missing pieces.
Favorite thing about Jack White is you can really hear all of his influences in his music but it never feels stolen. Always feels like appreciation. This was edging on a 5 for me but I was waiting for one track to blow me away and none really did. That being said, it's still a fire record. Highlights: I'm Shakin, Sixteen Saltines
Good, very mixed sounds, sounds a bit like left over white stripes?
This was pretty cool. Guy has some talent
I liked this. The sound is raw and gritty but just enough that works for me. Great hits with Sixteen Saltines that I knew before and Love Interruption. The sleeper hit was Take Me With You When You Go with the Take Five inspired beat. I'll be curious to see if a full White Stripes album hits even better for me.
Pretty great solo album by Jack, not nearly as good as the best White Stripes but I’ll still likely listen to it again sometime
abwechslungsreich, stimmig - und einfach jack white!
Really liked this!
Jack white es muy bueno y creo que lo tenia underrated la verdad, buen album no muy trascendental
Sixteen Saltines
Some of it was good, some of it was unremarkable. Probably wouldn't listen to it again, but I enjoyed it.
it’s good I like it the fast tempo is nice I like the instrumentation wow amazing
8/10
I had only heard Love Interruption before, but enjoyed a lot of other tracks here. Good mix of blues and more mellow country stuff. Light 4.
Actually rather good
I gave the white stripes album 2 stars but enjoyed this a lot more. Lack of Meg White? Seems a bit harsh. Jacl White has an infectious energy about his playing for sure but there’s an experimentsl playfulness to this album that is fun and i think the broader range of musicians in the band allow gor ideas to be abit more fully realised, not so one dimensional.
muy bien
Just a really solid album. If you like the White Stripes you'll like this, and I like the White Stripes.
A fine mix of excellent rock, with influence from many decades. Just the way I like it. 4.5/5
This fella is a genius. So unique and different. One of his better albums if possible as he’s done nothing weak. Some great riffs, and indescribable sounds with JW’s falsetto. This has a higher replayability factor. Tracks like the grandiose Weep Themselves To Sleep, riff-tastic Sixteen Saltines, funky I’m Shakin. There’s enough big tunes to make this a top album 4.6/5.
Some great singles. Some nice variation. Tails off a bit in the second half. Solo Jack is just below the White Stripes and well below the Raconteurs.
never listen to a full album of his but i enjoyed this
The guy can rock!
Solid album start to finish.
Take me with you when you go Ну, нормально.
Very cool, never heard any of his solo stuff before.
All of his songs sound exactly the same and that does not bother me one bit. One of my favorite concerts I have ever attended. Jack White hell yea Best Song: Love Interruption Rating: 7.5/10 Stars: 4
Buen álbum, sin embargo, muy variado, es bueno para estar en un viaje, sea en bus o metro, mas no encuentro que sea para escuchar en casa.
Really cool album that I didn’t know previously. I’ll be listening again.
I like a few of Jack Whites bands, but I don't think I've actually ever listened to a Jack White solo album prior to this one. I'm pretty blown away, this ranks as one of my new favorites. I like low tech, beat heavy garage rock in general and I think Jack White is one of the very best of the genre. His voice has a percussive feel and sounds like he is somehow harmonizing with himself. Most importantly he writes great songs. The album follows a simple formula, but Jack incorporates a few interesting tricks making his sound uniquely his own. Grooved to this most of the day, and expect to revisit again sooner than later.
Great
It's more of a 3.5, so I'll round up. Nothing much to say about it though.
I was really surprised how much I enjoyed the two White Stripes albums I'd listened to on this site, and now the same has happened with this album. It was a real grower. I wouldn't rush out to buy it, or put it on my 'wants' list - but that is not to say it wasn't very good. Fair fucks, this guy has got some talent.
It might not be quite as good as his stuff in the White Stripes, but it's still really good. Interesting to see how he adapts to the more intricate drumming without Meg White (Not to say Meg White isn't great. She's an all timer, just he style is very simplistic, which is what The White Stripes needed). A lot more intricate on the guitar and other instruments. Very good album though.
i like jack white because i am a white boy. (and i love wacky vocalists) you may imprison me with the hardest button to button if you wish.
Jack White's solo sounds how you imagine a Jack White solo record would sound like. Robert Plant vocal stylings, some face melters, raw sounding production and rock hard riffs and melodies. I think if you've got The White Stripes in the list you probably don't need his solo work. It's great, it just shouldn't be on the list. Probably. Best Tracks: Missing Pieces; Sixteen Saltines; I'm Shakin'
Yllättävän hyvä levy vaikken mikään suurin Jack Whiten vokaalihommien fani oo. Tarvii ehkä tutustua tuotantoon paremmin ja kuunnella toistekin
Vibrant and fun, sounds great. Every track didn't hit on first listen but there were a few high points, like Hypocritical Kiss and Weep Themselves To Sleep.
Such a good album I hadn’t heard since I was a teenager. There’s so many good songs I hadn’t heard in almost a decade if not more. I love jack white he’s a genius and a weirdo.
Rock and roll, blues, country... pasamos de canciones aceleradas y enérgicas a momentos de calma absoluta. Aunque las voces no buscan la melodía perfecta, compensan con una pasión y una entrega que se siente auténtica en cada nota
Not quite as good as Elephant, but damn do I love Jack White on guitar.
There was a lot of hype when this came out, being White’s debut solo album. Now that a significant amount of time has passed I don’t think it has quite hit classic status. Like a lot of first albums on the list, this one seems to be testing the waters. More of a sampler pack of styles and instrumentation but without anything really hooky to latch onto. At least, nothing that comes close to White Stripes in that regard.
Hoewel ik Lazaretto veel vaker heb geluisterd, is dit ook echt een nice gevarieerd album. Mooi hoe het als eerste solo project van White toch een andere sound heeft dan the White Stripes maar wel in hetzelfde straatje valt. Zin in BKS!
First time through I thought I hated this album. Nothing was standing out. Then Hip Poor Boy came on and I really liked the vibe shift. After finishing I decided to give it another time through and realized I must not have been focused on it much because it was an enjoyable album.
- Liked 'Missing Pieces', 'Sixteen Saltines', 'Take Me With You When You Go' - Album began to blend together a little too much - Liked his voice, fits the vibe - Lyrics aren't super notable - Memorable but a little generic throughout
Good artist. Good album
At first I was like this sucks! But now I’m like hell yeah!
Totally new artist for me. I liked a lot of the songs. I liked the differences in the music as there was even some a cappella included. I enjoyed the variety of instruments. Finding new artists was one of the reasons I signed up to listen to different albums and today met that expectation. I loved the piano on "Weep Themselves To Sleep" but I could have done without the strained string note from the guitar. I really enjoyed, "Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy" which I'll add to my library of music.
Tää oli uusi tuttavuus ja väkevä sellainen! Vahva ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Oikein kiva! Kuuntelen varmasti uudestaan.
спочатку мені подобалося, проте слухавши цей альбом декілька разів під ряд, підчас їбашення у фотошопі примусило мене почути в ньому нотки боба ділана і ще якийсь криндж розчути і слова пісень почали тиснути на думки і дратувати... тому вважаю можна сказати, що this album did not pass the exam отже буде 3,5 але тут таке не поставиш тож буде 4 зірки. а так близько...
Really similar to some more up-beat Elliott Smith with more edge and punkiness. Such cool piano and guitar compositions all around and awesome melodies that are really my style. While not everything was the greatest at least half the album was a blast and really cool, interesting music that I’d love to get more of in my rotation.
7.5/10
3.9
I like Jack White. Good album.
I was a huge White Stripes fan, so it was so cool to hear him break out of the box with a bigger sound — and it still is
Amazing artwork from the famous Jack White. I knew this album for the long time. It was pleasure to come back to it once again. I want to highlight very interesting piano lines, which sound in wide spectrum from blues to jazz and even some kind of psychedelic genre. And of course the songwriting of Jack White in general is always very creative and sharp without compromise.
Good album but no outstanding songs
super cool and fun. a bunch of different styles throughout this album. All very pleasant. Would add to a playlist if I maintained playlists ha.
Dig his lyrics
I certainly was aware of Jack White but the 1001 has moved my opinion of him as an artist up a notch or two. This record has some strong material!
I liked this! My favorite songs were sixteen saltines and I’m shakin’
Saved? ✅ Would listen again? ✅ Would recommend to anyone? ✅ Would buy on Vinyl? ✅
as i've never been much of a white stripes fan, i never listened to jack's solo stuff. a mistake? this album is quite good. "missing pieces" has some really cool keyboards going on and begins the album strongly.
Wow, I really liked this. I've always "appreciated" the White Stripes without really being a fan, but never looked further into Jack White's work. I _really_ enjoyed what Spotify cued up next, which was the Dead Weather. Let's see if that crops up in the list...
I liked this more then I thought I would. Good use of the blues and Jack White stands out as unique
Good album. He's easy to listen to
Love Jack White, and this is a great album. Not his best one, but right up there.
Guter Rock!
This was already added to my Apple Music library so I assume I must have listened to it before but I don’t really recall. Reviews for this seem fairly positive but at the same time, there seems to be many questioning its inclusion on the list. I won’t get into that debate but I will say I really enjoyed this, I’d not really followed White Stripes much after Get Behind Me Satan so this felt quite refreshing, the prominence of the piano really worked for me and I even gave this 2 listens so it definitely landed well.
GOSTOSO GOSTOSINHO. me lembrou bastante When the pawn hits the conflicts he thinks like a king What he knows throws the blows when he goes to the fight And he'll win the whole thing 'fore he enters the ring There's no body to batter when your mind is your might So when you go solo, you hold your own hand And remember that depth is the greatest of heights And if you know where you stand, then you know where to land And if you fall it won't matter, cuz you'll know that you're right
I think I like Jack White so much more than I do the White Stripes (Elephant was pretty decent though). It seems like he's so much less limited by Meg White's skill set when he's working solo. I don't know though, I've never really researched the creative processes of each act and maybe she contributed a whole lot more than I'm aware of... Anyway, Blunderbuss is a solid record. It's probably not something I'll revisit often, but I do enjoy this more than I'm used to enjoying anything I've heard Jack White attached to. I love his guitar work, but something about the songs he writes just doesn't connect with me on any sort of emotional level. So, I do think this record is enjoyable, and actually some of the better work I've heard from him, but it's not gonna catch multiple spins from me...except for Sixteen Saltines, which I actually already listen to somewhat often. But objectively, I do think this record is pretty tight. 7.5/10
Glad to have the opportunity to become more familiar with his stuff. So easily identifiable as Jack White from the off and feel that’s quite an ability - to invent such a new and identifiable sound. Yeh, this is a firecracker! Such a good groove and depth to it. Really pleasantly surprised and excited to hear the rest. Preferred the hard hitting start and drops off a bit after this. Although still enjoyable songs. Pretty consistently great, with some fantastic songs and some meh. Pretty solid 4, I think and excited to listen to more.
Jack white is great, even his random solo albums I've never got round to listening to are full of tunes. I would say that he had a period of being a bit too overproduced that hides some of his magic a bit, at its worst points straying towards Lenny Kravitz territory. Overall that is a very unfair take mind as the actual songwriting is still top notch. This just isn't quite at the level of his most recent album or White stripes stuff.
Enjoyable and diverting. Weep Myself to Sleep was my top track, but a few round the middle sound pretty familiar. Probably slightly too intricate with a few of the production choices. Not as good as his White Stripes stuff, but worth a listen.
I enjoyed it enough that it felt natural to have in the background. But nothing gripped me enough to pick it up again
3/3. Maybe generous but I really enjoyed this one, much more than White Blood Cells. Such great rhythms throughout, a distinctly 50’s/60’s rock feel throughout but thoroughly modern. Would recommend.
An excellent album. Jack White is insanely talented.
239/1001 Jack White - Blunderbuss Heard before? ❎ Revisit? ✅ It's a continuation of the White Stripes, who I enjoy a fair bit and this remains a solid listen. I do kinda wish he'd played it more loose as some of these songs would have benefited from it.
8/10. It’s my style of music. Lacking standouts for that fifth
He seems so much better without the tinny drums and voice of Meg. None of the songs are duds, or samey (although Freedom At 21 had a definite 7 Nation Army vibe about it). I see now that I rated Elephant a 4. I can't give this anything less (and I should give it more)
- i lowk loved this album - not what i was expectjng at all - completely underrated
Pure jack black, first trademark bluesy album, bit of a trippy listen.
8/10 Not a bad song on the album, and probably a 5-star on a different day. Just misses the spark to make it truly exceptional
Loved the blues rock sound. Wished for more punk.
I didn't realize Jack White had a solo career besides being in The White Stripes. I was blown away.
Love the instrumentation. The keyboard in "Missing Pieces" is fire. Overall, I really like this. Favorites: Freedom at 21, Love Interruption Would I listen to it again: Yes
everything is here
With at least three full band projects under his belt at this point it was always going to be a question if Jack White could make his outing as a solo performer stand alone. Thankfully, this album proved that he would (and his solo career has been probably his most interesting body of work). There’s so many great moments on this album, flirting with so many different genres, and a real showcase for his songwriting skills. Jack does occasionally lean a bit too much into his wacky Willy Wonka of music merch persona, but you remember when listening to him he actually has the chops to backup his playfulness.
7/10 Hip (eponymous) Poor boy
I was already familiar with Jack White but not this album. I like it quite a bit. It is a bit more refined than the White Stripes material that I know, and sounds like a maturation of sorts. The songs and instrumentation are very good. I would listen to this again.
Jack White is alright with me!
Sounds exactly like the title. Scuzzy, distorted guitar, with Jack growling over them. Believe it or not, I mean this as a good thing
For reference, on the day I got this album I was given "White Blood Cells" just two days prior so this album might be unfairly dinged a little prestige just from personal Jack White fatigue That said, I did mostly like this, theres a lot of fun piano in the instrumentals here, I was especially fond of it in "Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy"
This album is really good and is further changing my opinion of Jack White for the better. I love the variety of styles and sounds (he can really dial in a good guitar tone) and this is one I would not hesitate to come back to. 3.75/5
Never listened to this when it was new. It's pretty good! I like this more than Icky Thump, but probably less than most everything else the White Stripes did. That being said, I like the White Stripes a lot, so this is still really good. 3.5/5
(5/7) this rocks. no standouts but pretty consistently average or better
Favorite Tracks: Sixteen Saltines / Freedom at 21 / I'm Shakin' / Trash Tongue Talker / Hip Poor Boy Rating: 3.9 I've listened to this album a few times before, along with a lot of Jack White's other projects. Hell, I've even been to Third Man Records in Nashville and bought a Raconteurs album! There's probably 3 or 4 other Jack albums I go back to more often than this ... including just about any White Stripes album... but this is a fun, rollicking, blues-y album with no real skips and couple standout jams.
I was not necessarily excited for this album but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
White's unique songwriting styles makes for a very interesting listen. Lots of old rock and blues influence with a cool mix of folk and White's one-of-a-kind style. "I Guess I Should Go to Sleep" and "Take Me With You When You Go" were the favorites.
Catchy. Really enjoyed
Bombastic and stagey but not a Wainwright … then it must by a Jack … but Black or White - if it’s metal it’s Jack Black - if it’s Indy Rock it’s Jack White . This is brilliant and , mostly, without the pretentious streak he can be prone to . Catchy blues rock .
Very unique sound blens a lot of different categories of rock one of the top artists of the 2000s
Very nice variety of songs. I knew the white stripes, but he is also an accomplished solo artist.
4/5 I had listened to the White Stripes before, but I didn't know Jack White was also a soloist. That being said, this was a very nice and varied album. You can tell he has a real passion for music that is not found everywhere. I really enjoyed this.
I rounded up. He’s a great musician but I don’t feel much when I listen to him.
just like his white stripes albums, gotta take the good with a handful of clunky cringey crap. never really gave any of jack white’s solo records any attention though and clearly I was missing out.
Very good album. It took me several listens but I really enjoyed the contrast.
I really enjoyed this album, especially its energy and the personality in many of the tracks. Several moments stood out and kept me engaged. At times, though, it felt a bit inconsistent, with some songs being less memorable than others. Overall, an album I liked a lot, mainly for how engaging it feels.
This is surprisingly good. It feels like a blend of blues and rock
class
Jack White has one of the most impressive post band break up solo careers. He somehow manages to stay true to the minimalist sound that made The White Stripes so iconic, but that has never stopped him from experimenting at the same time. This in many ways is a very quirky album too, despite its very overt influences from garage and blues rock. It's a style I think he would go on to do even better on later albums in his solo career, but for a debut album away from The White Stripes this is insanely impressive.
Surprising (to me anyway, very unfamiliar with Jack's solo work until now) amount of variety and beautiful instrumentation, melodies and song writing on this one. Love it. Faves: Sixteen Saltines, Love Interruption, Blunderbuss, Hypocritical Kiss, Weep Themselves To Sleep
Jack White is just so effortlessly cool! His song writing, musicianship, poppy hooks with layers of guitar, piano, and multiple other instruments, all delivered with his distinctive voice and inflection just works so well every single time.
The first White Stripes album I listened to dramatically grew on me and I think that really helped me enjoy this Jack White album a lot more.
Really wanted to hate this, but god damn it was enjoyable. The vocal fry in his voice hits just right. Not 5 w
I actually really like this album. Lots of different guitar tones from Jack. Some slow and fast songs, mellow and chaotic.
The album felt short which was good because it didn't wear itself out. Each of the songs felt different and interesting.
Det är ju inte White Stripes tyvärr. Men härliga gitarrer och solida låtar. En fyra.
I enjoy Jack Whites solo stuff way more than hus stuff in the White Stripes. Ive never explored the earlier of his solo work. The front if thus album is very pleasant, White knows how to write a hit. The second track shares the same DNA of songs that would become massive hits on his later albums. The 4th track is a nice little acoustic piece, which serves as an opening of the 5th track. This gives way piano and western accompaniment aided by his all too catchy vocals. "My temper got the best of me!" Didnt expect myself to enjoy a Jack White accoustic album as much as I did. 8/10
Love this
An interesting album and not as straightforward as I expected it to be. Quite an eclectic mix of styles going on here, and I like the use of piano. There are a couple of tracks later in the album that don't do it for me, but overall still a strong 4.
This really does feel like a straight continuation of The White Stripes, with perhaps something slightly missing in the instrumentation due to the absense of Meg. Like the white stripes, it's certainly not for everyone, but it is for me. We're on a run of albums that are "almost 5s but not quite" and this feels like another one of those to me. The Electric piano really adds a lot to these songs, and I just loved the inclusion of it throughout.
Made me miss the white stripes! :)
Good lyrics, guitar and piano. Was a fun listen
Definitely a fan of Jack White but his solo stuff never quite hits as well as any of his other bands. It's some good bluesy rock that I would totally put on as background music but doubt I would ever reach for this over The White Stripes. Dead Weather, or the Raconteurs. Good album but maybe not quite great.
uuh das isch seeehr agnehm, find de rhodes sound super. ich mag au wie er singt, sehr roh aber geili delivery. weep themselves to sleep seehr cools outro. ah i'm shakin kenni!! ah isch es cover logisch. aber huuuuere geili bgvs. und de gitarresound isch criiiiiiispy. geil. trash tongue talker seehr retro blues suuper geile bass sound.
missing pieces isch chli goofy aber macht au sehr spass hahah allgemein de ahfang vom album easy cool! hypocritical kiss so naja aber s klavier mitem schlagzüg am schluss hani recht cool gfunde MEH KLAVIER jaa geg de schluss hetsmi scho auchli verlore, aber s isch mega es villsitigs ambum iwie?
Surprisingly nice music

Listens: 3 Standout Tracks: Love Interruption, Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy, I'm Shakin' The album started out... well, it sounded like Jack White was tired, like the years caught up with him. His delivery is a little slower than it had been during the White Stripes era. That might actually be true, but as the album progressed, that criticism sort of melted away. He's still very much at the top of his game, even if delivery of the lyrics is a bit slower. The album is not something I've ever listened to before, despite being familiar with most of the White Stripes catalog, and highly familiar with certain albums. It's going to take a bunch of listens, but I can easily see this album being a go-to in the weeks, months and years down the road.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Good variety. Jack by himself or with Meg is far superior to Raconteurs
chame mache
love the sound, nice
Really good. Would listen again
Me gustó, pero no encantó.
wow, super strong start, energy remained high throughout. closest to a 5 from this series
Like it
I liked it a lot. It did sometimes feel like he was still writing for Meg, but he didn’t quite have Meg on drums. But there’s a couple of songs I’ll be returning to, for sure.
This album felt like a tarot pull for today, marking the violence in Minneapolis.
Jack White of The White Stripes!! What an album! An analogue advocate, showcasing the creativity of imperfect sound. When you’re provided with limits and can make the most of what you have and still go beyond all expectations, you meet Jack White.
I like it
Skates close to pastiche, while remaining being something new. A touch of Dylan, some Aladdin Sane, some country music flourishes, some roots and blues, a genuine R&B cover, maybe some Tom Waits, some big riffs, all played by a cracking band who steam along like a runaway train. The lyrics contain some fairly lacerating stuff, directed against others (especially women) and particularly against himself. How much off this is due to his recent divorce is anyone's guess, but clearly it's not an album filled with happiness.
Really good. Hadn't listened before and discovered some tracks I knew. Album had a really good flow
I adore the vintage rock sound on this record. The instrumentals really take centre stage, and for good reason: both the guitars and keys on this album sound consistently great. The only real issue I had with the album is that, because the instrumentals are so present, the vocals tend to drown out a bit. An example of this is "Sixteen Saltines"—which is also my least favourite track on the album. My two favourite tracks on the album are the title track, "Blunderbuss", and the album closer, "Take you with me when I go". The former is a slower-paced, emotionally charged song that contrasts well against tbe rest of the album. The latter is more intense, with very strong jazz inspirations.
favorieten: sixteen saltines, weep themselves to sleep (die piano!), take me with you when you go (heerlijke gitaarsolo) lekker album !!!
Not bad actually
A timely pick by the musical machine in the cloud. White's in the news 12-30-25 for not being a fascist boot licker. I know The White Stripes' music much better than Jack White's solo discography. This is solid, though I miss the intensity of the Whites as a duo, which gave Jack's blues-rock riffing an edge. He's a musician who's very much himself. Consistent and authentic. Great stuff if you're in the mood for it.
Fun, rock and roll, whimsical.
Blues Rock with introspective lyrics. Enjoyable. Low 4
One of his better albums. Quite varied. Kept the flag flying for guitar based rock music.
It’s a rare pleasure to reunite with a record you played a lot in your teens to find you like it even more than you did at the time. It’s a step up from The White Stripes, especially their later records, with every song bursting with melody and creative energy. The expansion in his sound in part comes from the abundance of different musicians across the tracklist, the line up changing substantially from track to track, keeping things energetic and nervy. I didn’t want this album to end because every track truly delivers, there isn’t a dud in the bunch.
I like without loving some White Stripes, and some Dead Weather, but Blunderbuss has instantly become my favourite Jack White project, solid 4
I liked this more than I expected!
Overall rating by me: 7,5/10 Songs added to the playlist: ,,Missing Pieces", ,,I'm Shakin" Notes: Very solid album. Definitely something for more alternative-leaning folk but a good listen anyways.
Sixteen Saltines // Love Interruption // Hypocritical Kiss // Weep Themselves To Sleep // Trash Tongue Talker 3.5/5
A great sound. I am not a massive fan of Jack White's vocal style but i really like the arrangements and the variety of instruments he uses to produce the songs. the melodies get stuck in your head and i whilst the so ga are good, i am not sure the album is cohesive
It was okay! Lovely instrumentals but not my type of music
This album made me feel like I have a real connection to the artist.. The album gives you a great vibe of rebellion Fav songs - Missing Pieces, I'm Shakin', I Guess I Should Go To Sleep 4/5
I like it, and I don't like it. 50/50. But there is definitely something. Oh, and I saw him perorming few of these songs live, so it's a 3 +1 for that performance.
Jack White never fails.
loved the production and instrumentals
Very fun listen. Gonna have to check out more Jack White. This was my intro to alternative/indie and I enjoyed it.
Solid but all the songs sort of blend into each other. Like not bad, often pleasant, but very samey. More like a 3.5ish but I probably can't give it a 3 so... Dunno. No half or quarter stars is frustrating at times.
Missing Pieces 4 Sixteen Saltines 4.3 Freedom at 21 4.4 Love Interruption 3.8 Blunderbuss 3.8 Hypocritical Kiss 3.7 Weep Themselves to Sleep 3.9 I'm Shakin' 4.1 Trash Tongue Talker 4.2 Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy 3.6 I Guess I Should Go to Sleep 3.4 On and On and On 3.5 Take Me with You When You Go 3.4 Score: 3.853846154
I enjoy listening to Jack White, this was one of my favorites
Gammal favvo!
Det här låter riktigt riktigt bra!
Did NOT expect that Fave: missing pieces, on and on and on
Blunderbuss is a personal favorite from anything that Jack White touches. Production as great. The way he mixes the drums in stereo and make the tracks sound like you are in the room with him is something to be admired. Stand out tracks: Sixteen Saltines - used to be one of my favorite songs. Freedom at 21 Blunderbuss I'm Shakin'
i liked this album
I don't know why I find Jack White annoying (actually I know some pointless reasons but won't put them here). This was better than I expected, apart from a few places where some of the Jack White tropes came through too strong.
Know it, love it
I really liked this
This is a good one. Recently started getting into Jack and his bands.
Just what you’d want and expect from Jack White
Very listenable. Not as poppy as I tend to like but fun. I could definitely get into some of the songs if I listened regularly
★★★★½
3.6/5 B
I honestly had no idea that he was in the White Stripes band, and I have never heard and of his songs before, but honestly solid album. Enjoyed it enough the whole way through to justify the 3, but not crazy to give it a 4.
Just the antidote I needed after this Elvis Costello album I had before. Something that actually rocks. I'm mostly only familiar with the White Stripes singles, but this album sounds mostly like that does. It's a pretty diverse album as well, not exactly as one-sided as I kind of assumed the White Stripes were (which may be a wrong opinion). 4/5 but could see this growing on me to a 5.
3.5 stars
My mate Glen burned me a CD-R of The Black Keys' El Camino and this, Jack White’s first solo album, on a single disc. While both are essentially blues-based garage rockers, putting the side-by-side , there were some significant differences. The Black Keys album was a slick production and highly compressed, clearly designed so that any song would pop out on radio as the best thing you had heard all day, but the result was a whole album that was exhausting on the ears. Blunderbuss was a much different beast. It was a much more analogue production with a much wider dynamic range and much more variety between songs. It was obviously designed to be listened to as an album. There are a variety of songs, carefully sequenced, and soft and loud bits, and a surprising amount of keyboards (for a noted guitar player). Jack White is strongly informed by the past -- blues and country especially -- without falling into genre pastiche. And I truly believe he is one of the last great rock musicians. He knows the power of an honest, exciting and unpolished performance, and I totally dig that. I am not convinced he is bringing much new to the form (other than some really top-notch songs), but that speaks more to the moribund state of rock and roll the past thirty years. He is an exciting performer who puts out solid records. Truth be told, I prefer Jack White when he is rocking out really hard (I love those Dead Weather albums), but this is a pretty good listening experience. The singles are all catchy and strong and the rest of the album has plenty of delights.
The older I get the more I appreciate Jack White’s music. This was great.
Great rocking with some great lines
aardig plaatje... geen White Stripes, maar je hoort ze er toch wel in
Modern Guitar masterclass!
The best of the solo stuff, partly down to the two cracking bands he assembled for it. Brings back memories of a great week in which we saw him play with the all boy band in Bridlington and the all girl band in Hammersmith a few days later.
really liked it
Enjoyed. More blues than rock but good.
I give it to Jack White…the man’s got outstanding music, songwriting, and production chops. I loved this
To me Jack White can do very little wrong, I think he's wonderfully talented and creative and I love everything he does. Having said that, this isn't one of his better offerings but is still a really entertaining listen with enough of White's little quirks to be easily relistenable, and just as enjoyable on repeat listens.
I've heard this before, I guess it didn't stick at the time but it's definitely memorable. I appreciate this more than the White Stripes albums that I've dissected recently, his voice really meshes with the sound, which often takes these sick peculiar roads. Bluesy, country/folky, and mixed with some interesting production quality. This was meant for a stereo system. It's really cool but I can live without it. 3.9/5
Fantastic album
Surprisingly good
I've already listened to his album (34). In hindsight, I think I like this one a tad bit more than Lazaretto.
🖤
Forgot about this album. FIrst listen was slow to get into, some dumb lyrics. Eventually listened to it a bunch, good stuff.
Solid rock album.
Buen álbum, diverso y divertido.
Je connais un peu et je sais qu’il a des sons vraiment dingues ! Album sympa avec une voix très cool
Color me naive, I've heard of Jack White but I never realized he was one of the White Stripes (duh). He's actually a Beatles superfan too and I saw something one time where he's able to identify any Beatles song based on a one-second snippet from any point in the song. The album is a tremendous piece of contemporary rock that makes me yearn for the days when music like this was still popular. It has a great mix of arrangements ranging from upbeat rockers to more mellow acoustic ones but always keeping those raw vocals and tone that I seem to like a lot. Top Tracks: Missing Pieces, Love Interruption, Blunderbuss, I'm Shakin, Trash Tongue Talker
Fire album.
70/100. A strong solo debut that showcases White’s versatility outside of The White Stripes with some really creative instrumentation and clever songwriting.
Fun listen, you really never have to guess if you’re listening to Jack White or not. I’d say there isn’t a bad song on this record, but I’m not quite sure anything really blew me away. Best Track: Blunderbuss
Yea pretty good.
Hell yeah. Jack White rocks.
i feel like this generator does need more music like this, i don’t feel like this exact album should be on the list but i like the style, other jack white albums could be on it perhaps
Good, good :). 4.2
Finally an unknown one that sparked enjoyment for this listener. Love Interrupted lyrics were dark, but overall, this album was good one. Can this be a new trend of a good album or two? Listened before? N Saved to library? N Favorite track(s): Trash Tongue Talker, Sixteen Saltines Least favorite track(s): Love Interrupted ⭐⭐⭐⭐: Really liked it.
Okay, I did not expect so many bops from Jack White. Great piano bits. This was a fun one. Listened before? N Saved to library? N Favorite track(s): Sixteen Saltines, I'm Shakin', Trash Tongue Talker, Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy, Take Me With You When You Go ⭐⭐⭐⭐: Really liked it. Saved a bunch of tracks.
pirate reference
Its was fine
Solid album with some great guitar riffs, “I’m shakin’” is a banger
Loses one star cos its missing Meg. Shes an integral part of the sounds he makes.
Way more piano and jazz influence than I expected. Really enjoyed it, Jack White is a talented musician.
I liked dis
Not heard this before although Love Interruption was familiar. Enjoyable and inventive. Will listen again.
weirdly, our school uniforms have the color palette of red, white and black. and the aesthestics of the white stripes are also red, white and black. although post-breakup jack white is blue, white and black. and this album is an absolute peak. 4/5
Saw him on tour in support of this album in 2013. Great tour for a good album.
Not my number one Jack White album but a solid production from start to finish. I only hope there is much more Jack White on this list , this feels like little bits of all the different sounds / types of songs he is capable of creating but not the best version of any of them.
The White Stripes were one of the few bands outside of classic rock that I would listen to growing up, but by the time Jack White’s solo career came around I was pretty burnt out on guitar rock and was mostly listening to industrial, noise, or ambient music. That said, I did see him live when he was touring this album because a friend had an extra ticket and it was a pretty great show! I really enjoyed listening to Blunderbuss this morning; it feels like I might finally be ready to appreciate this kind of music again. This pretty much feels like what you’d expect; it’s guitar rock similar to the White Stripes, but it’s not as striped down / is more complex.
A nice departure from the White Stripes, but keeping a spirit of simplicity. Great all the way through.
I have always been a fan of such simple music. When Jack White was with his sister and just banged out tunes that you felt more than anything else. The good news is this is still the same underneath as it was with the White Stripes so good on him! Yeah, it is simple. Nevertheless there is something there...
I was always a big fan on the White Stripes. Jack White is an extraordinary guitarist who takes traditional blues rock and twists it into strange and unusual shapes. He plays clichéd licks in ways no one else would think to, and makes them interesting again. His talents as a songwriter are also formidable. It's strange then that I never really paid attention to his solo work until now. That was clearly a mistake, because this album is absolutely monstrous.
Jack White always delivers. This is an album of his That I have somehow not heard. Though not his best work, it's still amazing. White always takes you on his music journey with face melting guitars & bluesy country licks. Always a showman. 4.
Dobra muzika, sve super. Ali ne čuva mi pažnju ni blizu kao njegove stvari s White Stripes. Izgleda da mu više leži veseliji karakter pjesama.
Interesting. Could have been great, but something just not quite there. Still a fun listen.
Cover 4 Generally ok but biting spectacular. It's a solid album and the songs go well together. 3.5/5
Definitely thought it was better than Lazaretto, but I don't think any of the highs are as high as the title track from that one.
Is it as great, historic, influential, or essential as White Stripes classics Elephant, White Blood Cells or De Stijl? No. Is it as consistently and surprisingly awesome as his most recent solo album, No Name? Also no. But I’ll be damned if I didn’t enjoy revisiting this. Has more great tracks on it than I remember. Probably a ~7.5/10, but close enough.
Solid diverse rock album
what a blunder that i haven't listened to this before
Jack White showed he could keep going on his own after the White Stripes. Great folk rock blues songs.
A quality album, with some excellent music. Seems to lack that punch that the Stripes had
Not my favorite of Jack White's work but still a solid record. It had a subtle variety of sound throughout and I quite enjoyed the production on a handful of the tracks. I feel like a lot of the riffs reminded me of more famous riffs. Some of the songs bordered on cheesy from a lyrics standpoint. Overall I always love high energy records and this checked that box for me.
Best solo album together with latest one
Enjoyed this more than I expected, the quality started to soar in the second half
Pretty fun and enjoyed this more than I initially thought
This album is some pretty solid blues rock. It feels more varied stylistically than the White Stripes, but it's not as simple and powerful. A pretty neat experiment.
wrong album cover my guy😭🙏
More indie alt, liked most of the album
Great suggestion. I lost track of Jack White after The Raconteurs. Same sound, gritty, simple. Wish there were more “ball and biscuit” type guitar solos but was still solid. Will be added to my rotation!
Bra album, men absolutt ikke noe du må høre på før du dør. Da bør du faktisk heller høre på hele White Stripes-katalogen før du hører på dette.
This is a super even album with a lot of good tracks on it and nothing bad. It certainly doesn't have the heights of the White Stripes heyday, but it is very good.
This might be Jack White's best solo record, but it's really difficult to sus out which solo record of his is the best. The range, from dirty garage rock to blue-eyed soul to folk to country ballad, is just astounding because every song sounds like it belongs on this record. Standouts for me are "Sixteen Saltines", "Freedom at 21", "Love Interruption", the title track "Blunderbuss", and "I'm Shakin'".
Not as good as his non-solo work, but still good. Not super different than late White Stripes, but not quite to that level.
I see Jack had fun and tried a lot of genres on this album, he nailed every one of them. But it made the album too diverse for my taste. There are two killer tracks: Hypocritical Kiss and Weep Themselves To Sleep - I found myself banging hard to these 2. The rest is nice, some really good tracks (On and on), but doesn't work for me as an album.
Great album. I’m a sucker for distorted guitars and doubled vocals.
Wasn't totally unlistenable, but not my thing
A really enjoyable album and, to my ears, the best solo album I've heard by him. Especially in the first half, it's one good song after another. I'd even put this up with his White Stripes stuff. He really is at his best when he keeps it basic and doesn't over-complicate or clutter his sound.
One of Jack White's best solo albums for sure, only surpassed by his most recent for me. Remember really liking it when it came out and it still holds up. Idk if it really warrants a place as a must-listen of all time, when there are so many deserving candidates left off the list. The compilers must be big Jack White fans, which is understandable. A very enjoyable album nonetheless, and has bangers like Sixteen Saltines and I'm Shakin
Great solo debut
Love it. You can see it has similarities with White Stripes but it's much wider in style.
Jack white haciendo de las suyas. El album pasa como un rayo, temas directos intercalando alguna lenta. No decepciona, full de octavador, pitcher y fuzz roto. En esta casa somos JackWhitetistas
I liked this a lot. It dragged a little near the end but was generally really good. My favourite song was prolly Sixteen Saltines. I wish he kept that energy throughout.
This was really great
Surprisingly good.
Wow never thought too much of Jack White but this album is impressive. Such musicality, such variety - all so sharp and loud and melodic. This is a damn good record.
White boy blues (affectionate) as opposed to White boy blues (derogatory)
This is a great blues-rock record. We got to hear amazing melodies, catchy and groovy rhythms, and great production to top it off. I loved almost every track on here. Favourite Track(s): I'm Shakin' Least Favourite Track(s): Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy
Really enjoyed this one, never really listened to any of Jack White's solo stuff before, but this has got me listening to his others. Very cool! 4/5
Jack White is a favorite. Creative melodies and instrumentation. Interesting lyrics.
Weep themselves to Sleep is my fav. Nope. Make that On and On and On.
Enjoyable listen, but not going to rush out to listen again
In my youth, I was not as musically adventurous as I am today and could be prone to ignoring anything I thought was "mainstream". (The irony about Jack White being this is not lost on me). So I'm really enjoying the chance to go back and find music I would have loved had I listened to it then. It makes me feel young again. Or maybe it's just my mid-life crisis talking. Either way, this album is a banger, and often captures the feeling of being young and in love. Confused, stupid, and passionate beyond all reason.
Enjoyed listening to this.
Day595 - definitely one of the best albums from 2012 and still sounds good in 2025
J’aime bien! Mais surtout ça me fait penser que j’ai récemment écouté son dernier, No Name, et que fiston me le demandait sans cesse dans l’auto (« l’album bleu » qu’il disait car il peut voir l’écran). So, de beaux souvenirs associés à Jack White.
4/5 original fun different very jack white
Best one in suggestion so far.
Felt like I was enjoying it more as the album progressed. Liked the instrumental, not as much his vocals. I'd put it high 3, but I'll round up.
Jack White is such a talent. First time hearing this album and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This will need future listens.
Fun
I had never listened to Jack white before, I really enjoyed this and will listen to other material by him
Love Jack White! Interesting instrumentation. Totally rocks. Love his concept.
Really enjoyed this and I already like it better than the 3 previous albums. Though the previous albums were decent and very important for their time, This album just has Jack White playing way more interesting and hard hitting songs. My favorites were Sixteen Saltines, I'm Shaking, and Love Interruption
honestly was a fun album! generally cool sound certainly made me want to read the "personal life" section on jack white's wikipedia page though, lol
Not The White Stripes but a good listen
Альбом интересный и изобретательный. Не смотря на изобретательность временами музыка казалось несколько плоской. Впрочем, слушал один раз и в наушниках на ходу.
Pretty good. Ranges from guitar hero music to cool country and blues rocky vibes. Fun time.
Typical Jack White, enjoyed it but not my favorite album of his.
solid album. no real standouts but no real filler either.
Fav songs: missing pieces, weep themselves to sleep
I do love Jack White
Me gusta mucho Jack White y este es un discazo.
Would buy.
Great record all around, didn't got to it when it came out, but now that i could dedicate some time, thought the songs were good, it's very enjoyable and think what modern rock has to sound like.
Old met the new and I loved it!
Favorite songs: Sixteen Saltines, Missing Pieces, Freedom at 21, Love Interruption, Blunderbuss, I'm Shakin', Trash Tongue Talker, Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy Least favorite songs: Hypocritical Kiss 4/5
