Reviews (page 11 of 11)
The most overrated, over-hyped, over-done piece of crap to ever pick up a microphone. And i doubt this idiot could even find Nebraska on a map. 0.00
What in the huuliharppu is this? Ja miksi nariseva ääni? Ei kiitos. ps. Tämän arvostelun kirjoitin jo ensimmäisen minuutin aikana eikä tähän ole mitään lisättävää.
Tylsyyden huippu.
Classic, thematic, lo-fi Springsteen album. Instrumentation is very cozy, but the overall style & Bruce’s voice/tone just don’t really do it for me on this one.
First impressions I like the voice and stripped back nature. More country! 'Atlantic City' would go off in freemount. Bit dreary and sad not what I needed Monday morning. Feels like a pastiche not a fan. Glad when it was over
Favoriten
turns out I hate too much harmonica and this is mostly harmonica
slow. predictable. original?
- Overstayed its welcome - sad bob Dylan - not enough variety or emotion
So fucking boring, I like Bruce but this shit is a snooze fest.
It’s BS. But not a great album.
Au top des 1001 albums à ne pas réécouter avant de mourir.
Ehhh. First springsteen album and I'm not exactly impressed. Fake deep sounding songs that kinda just say nothing, and nothing to write home about sonically. I'm sure this would be a wonderful listen if you never left your hometown in Jersey.
Shouldn't be on this list at all in my opinion. Never heard someone sing about roads so much in my entire life. Some moments were pretty good, but there isn't even one song that I really liked through and through. Very mid album
not for me
I just don't like him despite many attempts.
nothing much to it
kinda slow
What an incredibly whiney album. I quit halfway through, so a 1.
Imagine yourself locked in a room with Bruce Springsteen singing through the wall, insistent on wailing about poor murderers. That’s this album’s experience. If the first place my mind goes to while listening is Bob Dylan, you know the album is headed down a dark road — and a poor review. The tracks are so formulaic, in both sound and lyricism, that I applaud anyone who’s able to tell them apart — or even stay awake during a listen.
Raspy-voiced dude moanin' and blowin' a harmonica over acoustic guitar is not for me. I'm sure there's someone out there who enjoys this...
First Dylan, then Cohen, now this... are you trying to kill me?
A boring Midwestern state in the USA known for its corn. It has the high percentage of rural land out of all 50 states.
I’ve tried but Bruce just doesn’t resonate with me. I appreciate the story telling but that’s about it.
not good
Pjeva on Everybody dies, a ja mislim da se slažem - pogotovo ja dok sam slušala ovaj album. Teški napor i najgora utilizacija usne harmonike ikad. 1/5, 2/10
this album is really bad
Nudne, na jedno kopyto wszystko praktycznie
Oh hell no. I hate everything about Springsteen and this album is not going to make me change my mind
Some good tunes absolutely trashed by go awful harmonica playing. Fucking puling shades of Dylan this one. Had to turn it of because it was giving me a headache, and not the good kind
Nelabai patiko.
Only gave this a full listen so I could say I did and then rate it one star. Felt like you were stuck at a campfire with Bruce Springsteen while he shares some "deep" songs he came up with using his harmonica.
Got it - not really given it a chance though
Another addition to the “why the hell is this on the list?” list. No catchy tunes, no good beats or rhythms, no standout instrumentals. Certainly not unique or innovative, just a dude with an acoustic guitar and harmonica, which is something that can be found on most college campuses in America. He’s apparently telling good stories? Which is something I could get from reading a book instead. If they wanted me to like Bruce Springsteen, this was a terrible introduction.
Allt låter typ samma ärlig talat🫣
I don't like Springsteen's voice, and without good production to distract me idk what there is for me to enjoy. This album is also neverending.
Honestly shocked and how much I disliked this album. I was so unbelievably bored. The songs blended together so much that I hardly registered when it ended. Maybe I've just grown away from acoustic, folk-y music like this. I really hope to never listen to this album. I am not well versed in Bruce Springsteen, so the bar is set low for me now.
No!
just not a huge springsteen fan. thought this was a very mediocre album that lives up to its title - flat and boring.
Kinda emotionless
When I saw today's album, I was prepared to click DID NOT LISTEN. But I started it, to give it a chance ... and then called it quits, after just a couple of songs. It's a no for me.
NO. Why? This is the third time I’ve had to endure this moron, and now I get a concept album about the state of Nebraska? He was done appealing to the dementia candidates who remember tv shows about the 50s as their childhood, so now? Let’s get serious about FARMERS. Yeah, that oughta sell some records. While I hate this man, and believe that any of his criticisms of America are so veiled, and he is so interwoven into mainstream culture that he is a paragon of the very thing he is supposedly criticizing, I should take a step back. This could be uhh good. I’m sorry. I couldn’t even type that without laughing. You may proceed. One album closer to never having to hear him again. Nebraska - Jesus, turn that shit down. Each and every lyric is a complete fabrication in order to exploit uneducated record buyers and concert attendees in a brand new region. The song had a likeable melancholy to begin with and I can’t believe I’m saying that, but when you examine how disingenuous this is, and you continue to hear the increase in bravado, you understand that this is another Bruce Springsteen project. Atlantic City - They blew up chicken man in Philly last night. RIP chicken man. Not sure why the police needed to explode this eccentric hobo, but I suppose it wouldn’t even be the craziest thing to happen in America this week. His background vocals sound like the former occupant of the body that this soulless alien now occupies, screaming from beyond the void. Oh this is going to be a harmonica album, hey? Perfect. Why did he switch regions?? Careful Bruce, you don’t want to startle your new, impressionable fan base. Mansion on the Hill - ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. We did America things in America and drove around and had a car that we drove in and my daddy was there and other family members were also in the car and there was stuff we did and looked at and there were cars and did I mention daddy BUY THE NEW ALBUM 19.99 BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN PLAYS LINCOLN NEBRASKA BUY TICKETS NOW corn fields and lookin at stuff with my dad in cars and trucks and also farms and trucks REPENT AND TURN EYES SKYWARD TO FALLING ANGELS FOR THE DAY OF JUDGEMENT HAS DAWNED and I loved driving around with daddy in cars and we had chevys and fords and we love corn. Johnny 99 - More “relatable” content. Let’s talk about the music. The vocals are needlessly dramatic and the guitar riff is a lame 50’s ripoff and it sounds incredibly thin and lame. I think it’s so lazy to say “oh well he’s making a comment on how the working class has to turn to crime.” Just say you like his dumb voice. There are literally thousands of artists who have made this statement and similar ones in a more direct fashion with better music. Highway Patrolman - I know why it bothers me so much. Let me paint you a picture. I’m a white male who grew up in the suburbs in Canada. Imagine I take on the task of writing songs about the plight of the migrant worker. Or imagine, if you will, I pen an epic about the challenges I’ve personally experienced being indigenous. Sure, it’s not true, but dang it, I just feel like I want to. THEN, imagine the songs are HORRIBLE. Just rancid vocals, poor instrumental choices and lame lyrics to accompany my fraudulent message. Disgusted? Good. Now, to finish it off. Imagine that people think I’m a brave poet who details the struggle of these groups better than anybody else could because I have depression and play 3 hour concerts. If you’re not climbing a bell tower, you at least understand how I feel about Bruce Springsteen. State Trooper - Parody of yourself. Used Cars - Yes, you’ve “used” the cars in your lyrics too many times. BARF. This is pathetic. Blatant pandering. I do think rich people should use their platform for good. Nothing wrong with having more and trying to help others. Especially through political activism. This is the opposite. This is performance. And a bad one at that. Exploitation of the highest order. Open All Night - This song conjures the image of a MAGA hat levitating and glowing like a satanic entity in liminal space. My Father’s House - Was this somehow written by AI? New prompt idea for the LinkedIn psychopaths; write a song that will make guys who wear pit vipers and punisher logo t shirts feel like it’s ok to be emotional. Make sure you can sell it in middle America. Reason to Believe - hahahah the fake accent. I am literally an alien. Who likes this? Show me. Speak to me. Contact me. This is valueless and I can’t imagine a human soul who believes otherwise. This one? This one’s for the farmers. The do it your self ers. The get out and get it done-ers. This one is for getting your hands dirty, and for keeping your flag clean. For god, for country, and? For family. We here at Jizz automotive want to make sure you have a vehicle for whatever WORK you need DONE. Jizz; life comes at you fast. 0 HIGHLIGHTS: Bruce Springsteen’s net worth is a reported 1.2 billion dollars.
I guess I’m not a Bruce Springsteen fan, it’s just a boring album to me, nothing much going on second half of the album I just started skipping songs hoping something would pique my interest. Nothing did unfortunately
Springsteen sounding like he's trying to do Dylan after taking a handful of valium. Didn't like it at all
Yawn....
Seriously? Right away with the harmonica? Talk about an ambush. At least if this were Dylan, I could have steeled myself first. I've never been to Nebraska, but this album captures exactly how I imagine it would be: desolate, desperate, and dull... and full of harmonicas... Atlantic City is a solid track (uncoincidentally, not in Nebraska), but a single hit does not a good album make. 4 stars for the track, 1 star for the album.
I guess this is better than the long string of one starred albums we’ve received recently. So that’s something. I’m never go to revisit this though, and I’m not feeling charitable enough to give this a 2. So….
Booooo
Folk music where nearly all the songs are indistinguishable from each other. I would never ever ever listen to this album again
Imagine being a fucking poser but the scene in which you choose to pose is fucking Bob Dylan's "folk." Stop with the fucking harmonica, and get this shit out of my ears.
Misguided boring Folk.
This was not good. This was boring and this enforced the fact that Bruce Springsteen is NOT a good vocalist. He can hold a tune when the band is playing loud and in a rock style, but in an acoustic setting, he doesn't work well. I think some of the songwriting here is clever and the lyrics are REALLY good and well done, but overall this isn't great. "Johnny 99" is a great song tho. So fun. Actual rating...1.5. Liked Songs: "Atlantic City" , "Johnny 99" , "Used Cars" , "Open All Night"
Non capisco come fa a piacere alla gente
Zero stars on all Bruce Springsteen albums please and thank you.
A garage band is allowed to peak a mic, a dusty side of the road clip of the local fiddler is allowed to peak a mic. Why on earth is Columbia Records letting a Springsteen album be released with many, many, many peaks? it wouldn't be so that Springsteen could cheesily fake an identity as a blue collar country boy, would it? Is his voice only good because it's covered liberally in reverb, like frosting on a wedding cake? Are any of his woebegone lyrics as good as the poetry of the closing line of this review? @ me. I'm picturing the producer falling asleep on the mixing board during this recording session while bruce strokes himself to a 40 min 13 sec finish using only a guitar and his raspy gullet
I really only like popular and later Springsteen. With the band.
Not a huge Bruce guy as noted previously
It was aight, I can see how he had a broad appeal, but I think it just doesn't hit the blues space with much musical novelty. He had a unique vocal style with that, it's kind of a depressed Elvis thing. But it wasn't up my alley.
So boring. Needs the E Street Band with him (Max Weinberg 😍) to be interesting to me.
oh wow! another Bruce Springsteen record. FUCKING STOP ALREADY WITH THE SPRINGSTEEN RECORDS. LISTEN TO THE RECORDS BEFORE RAVING ABOUT THE FACT THAT HE IS BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN FFS. THIS IN PARTICULAR SUCKS ASS
*A boring,dark, and redundant album.
this guy...such a jerk I can't stand his music.
Wow. Slow and depressing. Not an enjoyable listen in any way.
I feel sad and sleepy listening to this album and then WHAM harmonica whiplash... fully awake again until the next drift off, I can be damn sure the harmonica is coming back to wake me up though. I don't really understand why it's in the list, it's a complete miss from me. A bit dull, a bit repetitive, a bit dull, a bit HARMONICA. It's kinda like if your drunk dad got on the guitar at an open mic and tried to be Dylan. 1/5
Meh
I am so glad that millennials killed the harmonica
I just couldn't
если BORN IN THE USA я поставил два, то этому опусу от ненашинского Газманова ставлю меньше. ОФИЦЕРЫ РОССИЯНЕ
Beige in musical form
The third verse on the first track is about driving away from somewhere. The second track has Bruce moaning his own vocal harmonies. Springsteen sucks and having listened to the FIFTH album of his throughout this project hasn't done anything to prove otherwise.
Probably most boring album here, every song sounded the same and there was very little creativity behind anything. Fell asleep on my second listen bc the first one flew by without me even realizing it
Meh
This album is another proof that Bruce Springsteen is one of the most overrated American musicians. This album is boring, badly written, very badly produced and his nasal voice is anything but good. They wanted to make him the new Dylan with this sound but it's a failure. His music never felt genuine to me anyway - he sings about problems he never faced as someone who came from New Jersey from a rather privileged background. He is too elitist for these songs.
3 BS albums on this list?! Fuck that.
Bruce makes me feel things. Mainly anger and fatigue
Bruce is a 2 star at the best of times. I just don't get the formulaic, Americana of it all. It's like Taylor Swift for 40+ white men. But now make it ONLY acoustic. Yea, nah. America can keep it.
Not one winner on there. I still feel he is one of the most overrated artist.
Already a nope. Thoroughly dislike Springsteen as a human being. Can't imagine an album is going to change my mind. Thank God it's a short album
Atlantic City is a brilliant track the rest 8s dreary dirge
This album is boring and shitty. Acoustic doesn’t play to Bruce’s strengths. His voice kinda sucks and there’s no energy anywhere in this album. He takes a great song like Atlantic City and makes it shitty and boring. Fuck this album
If this album is any indication of life in Nebraska, then Nebraska is not a place I want to visit.
Springsteen is one of these artists who i just cannot get into, he's like a mixture of Dylan and Tom Waits(both of whom i love, by the way)and it just doesn't work for me.
This is a Bruce Springsteen impression of Bob Dylans. As someone who does not enjoy Bob Dylan albums this makes this one of the most boring albums I’ve ever heard.
Probably one of the most boring albums I've ever listened to. I'm not into singer songwriter, but usually I can tolerate it. This one has great lyrics but musically, this album was halfassed and thrown out the window.
You know I did my best, I really did. I had never listened to any Bruce Springsteen before doing this exercise, and I would just always goof on him for all the obvious reasons. My friends have long told me if there's one album of his I might enjoy it would be this one, and maybe if I had gotten this first on this list instead of fifth--which I cannot believe there are that many albums by this dude on this list--I may have enjoyed it more. Even trying to be objective, his voice just has so much blundering bad association for me. I can't deal. Did not enjoy this at all. I really hope this is the last Bruce Springsteen album on this list.
It is arguably technically music, but not much more than that
I think I understand why he made the album this way. He wanted it to seem "intimate" and "personal". But the end result is that it sucks. It's slow and boring, the sound is thin, and the songs are all very similar to each other. There's little-to-no variation throughout the CD in tempo, intensity or instrumentation. And I love Springsteen's early work, but while he's a great frontman, he's not a great singer, and it shows here. Especially on these breathy acoustic recordings, his tendency to mumble at a very low register makes the whole CD sound like someone talking in their sleep set to acoustic guitar.
i dont know why bruce springsteen is famous at all, its like the most generic singer-songwriter shit there is?.. NNN
Lazy guitar playing and vocals on My Father’s House. Incredibly boring chord changes on the acoustic tracks. Almost every acoustic track sounds exactly the same. So boring. Such a fucking boring album dude. Overall: 4/10
I have no idea why "the boss" gets so many albums on this list. He's pretty terrible... but not as bad as Bob Dylan or Everything But the Girl or Massive Attack. I just don't get the appeal.
Guitar and rambling. Not worth my time to listen to
I’ve never gotten Bruce and his popularity, I think he’s just on a different wavelength from my taste and this did nothing to convince me otherwise.
please, stop, no more...
Too quiet and sad
The only thing worse than this album is knowing I have another Springsteen record to review 2 albums away from this. Blow my brains out boring. Feels like I could only ever appreciate this music if I was an alcoholic whose family abandoned him.
I think I've had every boss album come up already in my first 50 albums. I do not like him, but my spotify thinks I'm his biggest fan now.
if he’s the boss i quit. the suicide rip offs are decent tho
Knew this was going to be a slog, only made it through the first couple songs
Grim
Americana buzz word bingo
nope
I like the idea of Bruce Springsteen more than I like the man’s music. Pretty cool hearing the raw, stripped down approach rather than the usual Stratocaster, saxophone rock he’s known for. This album, however, is for fans only.
Too slow and sad for me.
This is pure, uncut, raw Springsteen and as such it is shite. Greetings From Asbury Park NJ is a brilliant record, as are The Rising and Western Stars. The audiobook version of his memoir is excellent, he’s had a great life and is clearly a very sound guy. But this record is rubbish. 1 star album, but an extra star cos I saw him live at Hampden a few years back and it was genuinely the best gig I’ve ever seen.
too depresive
F Nebraska 1 Atlantic City 2 Mansion on the Hill 2 Johnny 99 1 Highway Patrolman 1 State Trooper 1 Used Cars 1 Open All Night 1 My Father's House 1 Reason to Believe 1 My first 1 in a while. I've been liking the music for the past 30+ albums, but this was simply embarrassing. He sounds like Neil Young had his larynx ripped out. I simply can't understand how someone could like this. Ryan Adams remade it this year for goodness' sake. What kind of brainwashing has to go on for that to happen?
I just don't 'get' Springsteen, and I think by this point in my life I never will. I can hear that he is quite earnest about what he does, but neither words nor music really speak to me. Perhaps the earnestness is what holds me back. There doesn't seem much lightness to go with the shade - it all seems very 'serious' and 'musical'. Not unpleasant, but also doesn't draw me in. Another one that feels monotonous and one-paced, and if you're not in the mood for it, it ALL drags.
5th Springsteen album on this list all have been utterly boring and this one opens with a harmonica, pile of shit. 1
nah
This album was an absolute struggle. It is worse than the others. Stay away.
Forgot I listened to it.
i hate springsteen
Jesus, this is a slog! Old Bruce crying into a microphone while doing something with the guitar, what a joy he brought upon the world by putting out these shitty demo's!
I never wanna go to nebraska
Tedious nonsense. Even his well-known stuff was dreadful, and this is somehow worse, truly terrible
Something about his voice and writing in this one turned me off. I really didn't like it.
Нет нет и ещё раз нет
She obviasly told me that you were not coming
I love this one, darkest Bruce album. State Trooper has a definitive Fargo feeling. I love the acoustic, minimalistic approach in this record. It feels like Bob Dylan but wayyyyy darker.
Very good! Perfect for Saturday mornings.
Love this. Seen it before on this list.
