Me aburrió bastante

This one really wasn't for me. It was very folky, a genre that's never super exciting to me. But even then, it didn't feel like it was doing anything special. That's not to say it's bad, it's just not my cup of tea.

Honestly felt like punishment for coming in late. I do 'get it'.

I’m sorry but I got bored

i get why this album exists and why it's so important for bruce springsteen to have made this but man reheating bob dylan's nachoes does NOT do it for me i don't even like bob dylan in the first place

I don't love Springsteen but this was even worse than normal.

Interesting timing having just watched the BS movie about the making of this album. Made me a bit more interested than I normally would have been. Still thought the album was slow and boring. 2.75

pastiche of a rock star

I’m tempted to rank the songs by how much I disliked the harmonica playing in each one. It’s easily the album’s worst feature and makes me write off the first four tracks immediately. Bruce Springsteen’s voice isn’t quite at the level of gravely I can’t stand. The songs are sonically identical to each other so the standouts come in the form of the stories they tell. Highway Patrolman probably fares the best. Not something I needed to hear or want to hear again.

Not for me.

This album is quiet, acoustic, contemplative, and very sad. The album suffers from a weird patronizing tone. Had Springsteen ever heard anyone from Nebraska talk? He sings in an accent that suggests that Nebraksa is between Alabama and Mississippi. Atlantic City and Highway Patrolman are standouts, the chorus to Atlantic City sticks in my head every time I hear it, and Highway Patrolman is probably mostly because I'm a sucker for history and Bruce sings about a song "The night of the Johnstown Flood". Open All Night suffers from the spare acoustic production. It needs the full sound of the E Street Band. Bruce sounds like he's trying to make the song sound big, but can't get there by himself. This album can sometimes fit a feel, but I often need to shower this album off after listening, and find something much less dismal.

I found it pretty boring.

u r ruining the vibes here man

snoooze a series of short americana stories that are terribly uninteresting

This album is definitely not peak Bruce. Sitting around a campfire strumming a tune is cool when you are sitting around a campfire but as a listening experience this leaves a lot to be desired.

the kind of album that feels more about the lyrics than about the music. I quite liked State Trooper, the rest of it was fairly samey and uninteresting.

Dark acoustic Americana that's even more affected than his normal stuff but has some good moments and introduces the legendary character 'the chicken man'. Spare and stripped back, a man and his guitar and his harmonica and his songs howling in the wind. Kind of whiny and boring, super overrated bc critics were too embarrassed to admit they like dancing in the dark so pretended to like this one instead bc it is bleak and holds a mirror up to society by having some lines that say 'factory closed'.

Bruce Springsteen channeling his inner Bob Dylan filtered through Johnny Cash covering Nine Inch Nails’ Hurt…but not in a good way. And add in some piercing harmonica, because why not? 2⭐️

No me gusta, o dont undertstan

Have I listened to this album before? No How familiar am I with this album? I don't really know many songs, but I am familiar with the background and concept behind it How do I feel about this artist? BRUUUUUUCE! I have tickets to see him for the second time next month. That being said, I know this album is VERY different from his usual work so my rating may not reflect how I feel about Bruce overall. Favorite song(s)? Atlantic City, Open All Night Overall Thoughts: I knew going in that this would be depressing but good god man. Beautifully written, hints of harmonica, but still a huge drag. Very little tempo change throughout and bad things just kept happening to everybody.

It droned on…

The harmonica is the worst instrument to ever be invented.

I don't know, I didn't think hardly anything about this album. It sounded like one long continuous song in the background and had nothing good to mention.

Just some guy talking. Everything sounds the same

Bruce!

80’s Soft Rock ⭐️Atlantic City

Pretty boring. I preferred my previous Springsteen album (Darkness On the Edge of Town). Nebraska is very one-paced in comparison but I didn't hate it. I liked Atlantic City, which is the best song on the album for me. Overall not much to write home about but I'll give it a 2.5/5.

Ugh. I’ve never been a Bruce fan and this album removes the E Street Band, the one thing I like about his music. It’s basically Bruce doing an acoustic country album. Not for me.

The story behind this album is great, but outside of maybe Atlantic City there's nothing on here I'm actively choosing to listen to.

Did not interest me

Nebraska is the first Bruce Springsteen LP the Generator has given me and I probably wouldn't have been happy about that under normal circumstances – I usually prefer my first experience with an artist to be their debut, breakout or most acclaimed album than a random mid-career project. Doing this challenge has honestly made me break that rule more times than I expected to. Fortunately, this wasn't my first experience with Ol' Brucey! I'm no Springsteen superfan, but I'm old enough to remember the rollout for Wrecking Ball and I've gotten slightly more familiar with his older music thanks to Blinded by the Light (an impulse in-flight watch) and Born in the U.S.A. (a road trip listen just last year), both of which I really enjoyed. As much as those experiences (along with his criticism of the Trump Administration) have given me a positive impression of Bruce Springsteen, I can't say Nebraska did much for me. It's not bad and I do get that the lo-fi concept was novel at the time, but I just don't think the core songs are strong enough to warrant the album's inclusion among the 1001 when so many great albums were snubbed. Highlights: Atlantic City, Johnny 99, Highway Patrolman

boring not the best

Know the guy by name, kinda good album, just not my shi

boring, sorry

Some memorable narratives and great guitar + vocals.

Kind of dull. Too much of a country twang feel for me. This is a classic for the good ol’ boys.

Pure Country...my dad would love this album.

Felt like I should be in a bar drinking alone because my wife left me and my dog died. Not my favorite. Johnny 99 and Open All Night were bright spots

I almost died in Nebraska about 30 years ago. Nebraska nearly finished the job after listening to this. So dull, so boring. Atlantic City might be the only redeemable track. It was almost like he was trying to be as good as Dylan is as a writer, but he doesn't come close. At least his voice isn't as awful as Dylan, so Bruce has that going for him. Also enjoyed Open All Night, for that classic blues progression. You can't go wrong with that. I'll probably add that to the playlist, but not sure if it'll stay on there long term.

Along with John Mellencamp, Elton John, and Rod Stewart, Bruce is an artist I don't get the appeal of. He's less irritating than the others, and yet, somehow, worse.

Bruce die helemaal gestript gaat. Puur en rauw, alle instrumenten zelf ingespeeld. De sentimentele top 2000 luisteraars pinken een traantje weg. Maar eerlijk: het is wel een tering saai album.

Struggling with this one. It is dark and bluesy but slightly hard to stay in the songs. The drone of the vocals, light touch of acoustic guitar paired with low quality recordings. 2

didnt like all that much but maybe should just come back to it later

Supppper boring stuff - faux injection of energy with open all night. Most interest track at the end ffs

I like some of his songs, and I like the album that came later. This i could do without. Reminds me of the old men in the smoky mountains...

Yeah, I kind of understand why the yankees like this guy so much. But, considering I'm not one of them, sounds boring and way too MURICAN to me.

I always felt like you had to grow up with Springsteen to really embrace him and buy into the myth. And, well, that just wasn't me. It's funny, I love a lot of bands and songwriters who are deeply influenced by Bruce (and this record in particular), and I can see how, if I had encountered these songs at just the right time, I probably would have been bowled over. But not having first listened this until well past the age of being a wavering youth looking for truth in the American Myth, I just find this to be a maybe slightly above average singer-songwriter record. And I see how this was striking coming from Springsteen at this point in his career, but others have done this type of thing much better, both before and after. I guess I just had to be there.

Very boring.

Found this very dull. Not for me.

In an album where Bruce Springsteen does his best Bob Dylan impressions, it's about as good as you might expect. Which is to say, not very.

Slow paced Springsteen is just not my style. I need him to give me some energy.

Not sure what the fuss is about. Maybe this one grows after multiple listens. But once was enough for me. Simplistic songs sung out of tune

I understand now why people love him. He is a talented singer/songwriter. I respect him and his music. I just don't want to be involved in any way.

Wannabe bob dylan

Had a hard time getting through this album.

1. nebrazka - 2 2. atlantic - 1 3. manzion - 2 4. johny - 1.5 5. highuuay - 1.5 6. trooper - 1.5 7. carz -2 8. night - 2 9. houze - 1.5 10. reazon - 1.5

Is it genius? Maybe. Is it good? no. Can’t get into the monotonous Americana, although lyrics seem to be good when my attention span can handle paying attention to them. I’m sorry Bruce. I like your heartthrob fun stuff, I don’t like your dark side. But to be fair, I struggle to like dark music. It’s not you, it’s me!!. 2.4

Other than Atlantic City, this album is awful. So slow and morose. and some of the lyrics are just dumb. This could easily be a 1.

Bruce is beginning to annoy me now. He can’t sing, the songs are average at best and this album lacks any energy.

Springsteen gör sin grej så bra som det går, men den grejen är allt som oftast inte min.

Harmonica through the streets of a town so silent and still

Holy snore-fest… not a single track stood out to me. I understand that Bruce Springsteen is meant to be one of the greats, but in this album he sure doesn’t sound like it. Swing and a miss, buddy!

On a lot of albums that I love, there’s one slower or acoustic song that I find slow and boring and a slog to get through. But after a couple dozen listens, I grow to appreciate it a lot more. This feels like an album of those songs. I love a lot of Bruce’s music, but this did not do it for me on a first listen. Maybe someday after many many listens it will hit me, but it’ll take a while to get there and I’m not sure I have the patience.

i like atlantic city but the rest of it was pretty boring

Very not my type of music

Listened to it while working - it's mostly too slow for my liking.

I will start by admitting that I've never really been much of a fan of The Boss. The first few tracks ("Nebraska", "Atlantic City", which I knew from a cover of the track by The Band, and "Mansion on the Hill") surprised me, and at least momentarily, I felt the pared down, solo, 4 track recordings suited Springsteen more than his grander compositions. They quickly overstayed their welcome, and I spent the latter two-thirds of the album either bored or annoyed by his almost signature combination of self-indulgent attempts at songwriting broaching on high-art and generally lackluster, shouty and mumbly vocal performance. I admire his inspiration by and attempt to incorporate more rootsy singer-songwriter stylings into his repertoire, but a lot of it feels as though it's a pale facsimile of the greater artists Bruce imitates (Dylan, Cash, Guthrie, and in some cases here Townes Van Zandt). I feel as though it grasps at the achievements of the great American songwriting of decades past, but simply misses a lot of the cultural context and grit it sprung from, making it dull in comparison. It gets 2 stars, I appreciate the attempt at branching out on his part, and think there are some respectable tracks on this album, but it very much fails to impress for most of it's length. Favorite Tracks: "Atlantic City", "Nebraska" Least Favorite Track: "My Father's House"

I am... not a Springsteen fan, to be frank. Wailing on the harmonica and talk-singing (reductive) gets old for me very fast. That being said, I'm not sure I've ever sat down and tried to listen to an album straight through, so this was a good experience. I will start with my first positive takeaway being that some the harmonica play was more nuanced and enjoyable than I initially gave credit. It absolutely shreds on Atlantic City and....Johnny 99? I think my issue is his harmonica style pairs better with his more heavy hitting guitar performances to my ear (Atlantic City). But going from his super low tempo ballad-like acoustics and lyrics so soft they blend into the melody, to that piercing pitch of often simple and repetitive pieces is just not enjoyable for me. I also just cannot get on board with basically narrative stories on top of a melody. It feels so boring in comparison to the more poetic, verse heavy interpretations of the artform. Not to mention how generally samey that consistent structure makes most of his work feel indistinct from each other to me. Last complaint, the weird ad libs are so not it. State Trooper is probably the worst offender but the hoots n hollers can be so ick.

The Yellowstone of albums- no depth, repetitive, but if you want to live an Americana fantasy, you probably eat it up.

TIL that Bruce Springsteen has a really depressing album called Nebraska

2/5 Há algumas faixas introspectivas e interessantes, porém grande parte parece que nunca foi finalizada. Os roques não fazem sentido apenas com o violão e a voz do cantor.

It was alright.

Just ok, nothing special

i can appreciate the storytelling, but i just cant get into Bruce unfortunately.

this review is quite biased because i am not the biggest springsteen fan, but i do think it has a certain charm to it. definitely not for me though! however, my top three songs were: - atlantic city - state trooper - my father’s house

Very tame and tuned down record. Took a lot of awareness to enjoy this album. Springsteen’s voice is great but this whole thing comes across as one big slurry

okay bruce i’m interested -feel like i might actually like this -the vibe is fine so far nebraska reminds me of post malones more country songs and like feeling whitney -who’s the chicken man and why did we blow him up -he really loves a harmonica -so far these have been the same sonically and a little boring tbh -okay hit them notes -im bored -okay state trooper is kinda cool

Bummed out Bruce reminiscing about the lean times of youth in blue collar America. Look for a common thread in these lines where he wains poetic: “I saw her standin’ on her front lawn, just a twirlin’ her baton…” “Ever since I was a child I can remember that mansion on the hill…” “Well, they closed down the auto plant in Mahwah…” “Now ever since we was young kids it’s been the same come down…” “New Jersey turnpike, ridin’ on a wet night ‘neath the refinery’s glow…” “My little sister’s in the front seat with an ice cream cone…” “Last night I dreamt that I was a child out where the pines grow …” “How at the end of every hard-earned day people find a reason to believe …” The melodies are very similar, I don’t think I’ve ever heard any of these songs; they’re new to me but not new. (2.1*s) If Nebraska made The List, we’ll be hearing from Bruce yet again.

Nebraska is a down on your luck story about a bunch of characters. Each tune has some good lyrical content and you do get pulled in. The album finishes up with some real truth and a guy poking a dead dog with a stick. Not sure why it's titled Nebraska though since most songs take place in Jersey. Still not a big fan of Bruce after this one but I'll give him credit for putting out a stripped down, raw album featuring a solo attempt at Bob Dylan. I'll admit that this record made me finally agree the guy is talented. It's rough out there for the working man and the Boss has always connected with that crowd. I may have been more into Springsteen if I was a lifer at the Allendale DPW but these days my collar is white and I can't really relate. Not going back to Nebraska anytime soon or the state (I hear it's ultra-conservative)...1.63 stars for the Bossman.

Love when a guy who sucks at singing removes everything but himself from the music, and then proceeds to sing to me about the blue collar life, all while never having worked a real job.

not my favorite but definitely not bad

Will have to revisit this album later ok but for now I liked some of the vocals and great guitar work but it just felt redundant after a few songs except when it got lively again. 4/10. favorite Song: Atlantic City

Most of the tracks feature Springsteen singing soft vocals over acoustic instrumentals. Definitely not his strong suit.

Little bit boring, but fine.

So fine, not my fav by any stretch x

Not a fan of the sound. Appreciate Bruce singing about the struggles of the common people and the album definitely sets the mood. But I just found it a bit boring.

This was really boring. I understand that most people who like this album enjoy it for the lyrics. Maybe someday I’ll give it another shot and pay more attention to those, but for now I can only give this the benefit of the doubt and a 2.

I knew this album was a solo acoustic and even then, this album has soul. Too bad it ain't same without the band.

honk shoo honk shoo

not my vibe

there's a time and place for sad bastard music, this could make it on my sad bastard playlist.

Some of the blues songs were okay, but overall matches my typical feeling about Bruce, which is that he's not my cup of tea.

I wanted to like this, I really did. Atlantic City is a great song and I wanted to like the rest. I don't mind Bruce. But this Bruce is a boring Bruce. I get the songwriting quality is good. But...yawn...I just don't get the Bruce that is a single guitar and harmonica Bruce.

You don’t have to release an album if it’s not good.

What an absolute snoozefest, 2

If I ever listened to this album again, I would have no way of knowing that I was listening to it again because this seems to be the blandest thing that a musician can produce and it would not register with me in anyway.

have never been a springsteen fan but this album surprised me a little. none of the songs particularly grabbed me and i don't love his voice, but i liked the overall vibe a lot more than Born in the USA et al

I'll add at least two songs to my playlist This list really is making me listen to stuff I wouldn't normally... And so far, with every single one of them, I've found a few things to enjoy about each album

This is probably the third time I’ve tried to listen to this album after having it recommended to me various times over the years. I just can’t do it. Springsteen’s voice irritates me and musically I find it pretty uninteresting

Sorry Bruce, I think I like you, but I cannot give every guy sitting with a guitar that doesn't impress me a different mark

Not how I would have imagined a Springsteen album. I don't think I had heard any of these songs previously and I don't think he has the voice for an acoustic album.

Meh, not my style

habla de temas interesantes pero no conecté

don't like it, always the same

Nope, can't get in to the Boss...

The last Springsteen album I got was "Born to Run" which I gave a 5, declaring loudly that I had discovered a love for "The Boss" that I never knew I had. This one was just okay. I don't know why I didn't like it as much, maybe I'm having a bad day, or maybe it's just different and that's okay.

not one of his best

I've said it before and I'll say it again, but I'm of the mind that Springsteen's best work has been post-2001. I would go as far as to say I love everything he's released since The Rising. His earlier stuff just doesn't cut the mustard for me, particularly Nebraska.

This is bleak and sad, like Nebrsaka. It’s also boring. Top tracks: "Atlantic City," "Open All Night"

This album clearly is trying to be tragic. Seems to be going for the same idea as American IV by Johnny Cash. The only sad aspect of this album is how bad it is. There are worse albums, but I felt nothing listening to this. I was just bored and tired of the flat, breathy vocals and slow instrumentals.

I know the hits from Bruce, but this is a bit softer. Very singer-songwriter and acoustic guitar.

As if my week couldn’t get worse - this album made me listen to nonstop harmonicas. Death to harmonicas

Good album. Steady Bruce.

Quite a slow album but heartfelt singing

I expected to enjoy this because of his voice and guitar, but instead I found it very boring.

It’s not you it’s me Bruce. I a bit tired of country, so think I just didn’t really want to listen to this. I thought it was a good album that was well written. Felt like it flowed well. Favourite song: My fathers house

Could've been a single. Very little substance and completely forgettable.

Not a Springsteen fan...and after three plays of this album, I found it interminably dreary with little variation in either musical style or lyrical content.

2/5 the Electric version is better

Still not a fan of harmonicas. But surprisingly okay.

There really isn’t much substance to this. I prefer it to the repetitive piano led rock from born to run but this is also incredibly repetitive. It’s kind of like campfire songs but from someone whose voice doesn’t work for the quiet vocals. The acoustic guitar is quite nice but simple and the harmonica is honestly annoying for the most part as it really cuts through the silence and destroys your ears. I will praise the storytelling though as it is definitely the strongest aspect of this, with each song telling a story of different people in crime and remembrance of their past but it suffers from being the most generic American sounding tales. I don’t know why he thought it was a good idea to leave the E-street band out of this, it probably would have sounded a lot better with some actual instrumentation. Also, why is this even on here? I’ve already gotten what is seen as his “best” albums so this just feels like a waste of a space. Favourites: none. Overall, 4/10.

Not my cup of tea

Boring and way worse than his other records.

Donne envie de chanter avec, sans connaitre les paroles. Il faut apprécier l'harmonica par contre. Un peu l'impression d'écouter plusieurs fois la même chanson, à réécouter plusieurs fois pour saisir les nuances. Pas fan.

Genre: Contemporary Folk (Singer/Songwriter) I can't get into Bruce. Like, I get it, I can see the appeal most of the time, especially his full-band efforts, but this acoustic, post-Dylan, corporate-Americana stuff just sounds like beer commercials to me. Not essential for me, but I'm sure there are plenty of diehards for this. 2/5

Springsteen goes acoustic. Not bad, but not all that interesting to me personally.

Springsteen just doesn’t do it for me. A bit too sleepy of a record, but can’t deny the songwriting is great.

By far the best Springsteen album so far

Bruce is good. You know this. (Besides that one song about Atlantic City)

Mostly sad.

Who's this drunk mumble rapper trying to rip off Leonard Cohen?

It didn’t blow me away. Johnny cash had more of a profound impact on me.

Isn't Bruce from Jersey? The hell is he doing out West?

Decent but still don’t get him.

This is very much not my jam. It’s not that I’m not a fan of the stripped down acoustic sound, I very much am, but this just doesn’t get it for me. I know people rave about this album; and I do know the story behind it and why everyone says it’s so great… and I honestly do see why people love it. It’s just not for me. It’s too much of a downer in too many ways. Aside from Atlantic City, I’ll pass. Give me upbeat Bruce any day of the week.

2,5 - kinda boring

Never been a huge Bruce fan, and this hasn't changed my mind.

One of the bleakest, sparsest, most depressing albums I've ever had the misfortune to sit through. It's also very boring.

I have to be in the right mood for singer/songwriter style music where it's just a person and their guitar. Also not helping is the fact that I've never cared for anything Springsteen has done, and this did not change my mind.

not a fan of this particular lo-fi recording style. It just sounds bad at times, to be honest.

Overall pretty boring. Either incredibly monotonous or just straight up cacophony

C'était 10 tounes ou c'en était juste une? Je sais pus. Ça vaut pas un clou.

I like a few of his songs but overall, I found this album boring and whinny at times.

I would rate it with a five. I liked the harmonica parts and it's clear it was written with soul and lots of feeling, but the sound is not great and I was expecting more rock. Not a waste of time bad I would not listen to it again.

Mai piaciuto Bruce Springsteen

Still not a fan. I don’t really like his voice.

point8.

I was really bored after a couple of songs, his style of singing in combination with his monotonous melodies were sleeping pills for me. I don’t doubt his talents but this is not for me.

I love Bruce as a person, but to be totally honest, this isn't my vibe. The music is chill, but it turns out I don't like to hear too much harmonica. The lyrics are good, but the singing is too "country" for me (there's a fine line between country and folk, I guess). Bring back the band, Brucey!! Highlight: 'Atlantic City' Related fun facts: Bruce is also into model train sets. There exists a Wikipedia list of "List of 1980s albums considered the best" (this is on it).

AM: Featured on Dad rock essentials

meh, just incredibly meh,.

Bruce Springsteen constantly sings like he's about to cum

Not a fan, but I'll give it a 2 for being marginally better than that John Zorn thrash jazz atrocity from a few weeks ago.

I don't think I like Bruce Springsteen

Not a huge fan.

Harmonica-y

I was not born in the USA.

This did not sound like The Boss, in a bad way. He sounded like he had a mouth full of marbles to me. All of the songs sounded the same and didn't have distinguishing characteristics. Slow, melancholy, FAFO vibes. Would not listen again.

I'm so sorry, Bruce!

could i write poetry to this? n

This isn't the Bruce Springsteen that I enjoy. Come to think of it, I only like Springsteen records with the E Street Band on them. Must be the saxophone.

Good Grief. What a downer. Hated it.

Almost a folk rock thing going on, crazy it’s only two years before born in the USA

Very stripped back folk album, with just Bruce on acoustic guitar, harmonica and singing. I can definitely appreciate how raw and vulnerable it sounds, and I think it's very effective at what it sets out to do. But I didn't really enjoy listening to it. The melodies were very simple and repetitive, I didn't find that any of the songs had any great hooks, they mostly sounded the same, and there wasn't much that was interesting about any of the instrumental parts. Definitely not a bad album, but it's not for me.

Found this really boring. 3/10

This bored me to tears. A few songs sounded pretty identical. Also wasn't able to glean any especially meaningful lyrics. Surprised by this one.

Disappointed with how dull this is.

Not the best but it was definitely listenable „patrolman“ was one of my favourites felt like a nice story.

Not bruces best work

Super dull. Ashamed to say I much preferred Ryan Adams' version, even though he's a monster.

Bun de fundal. Trebuie cu versuri

Not my favourite album from The Boss.

Almost fell asleep, good lyricism tho

Very low key. I feel like I should like the Boss - I feel like I want to - but this isn’t getting me there.

meh i mean i guess its ok but the lack of melody and his terrible vocals wouldn't be meaningful without the context of his past albums

Pretty shitty compared to the rest of his work. Either that or I'm too dumb to understand this album.

I want to like this album more than I do. Falls a bit flat for me.

Was ok

Ah no pero este tipo quería que la gente sufra. Mucho peor que Born ITUSA. Nota: 1.9

High 2 best song: highway patrolman Would probs be great if I listened to the lyrics more

This has zero effect when the world around you is literally burning and less when you're not from the USA (like evrey Springsteen song)

Yeah no, this isn't for me I think. I believe this is quite a boring album honestly. Not bad, but forgettable and meh. Absolutely nothing stands out to me in this album. Songwriting is good I guess, but not enough to be invested in these stories. Production is alright you know, acoustic campfire B sides vibes.

Un estilo muy estadounidense, en la línea de Bob Dylan tirando más al folk que al rock, cargado con letras llenas de significado para los que viven la cultura del lugar y el momento en que se escriben. 4/10

Meh. Bit too slow for what I'm looking for when I put on Springsteen.

Wow this is vastly different from Born to Run. It's putting me to sleep.

Wow this is sleepy. I enjoyed it more in the morning vs the afternoon but I don't need to listen to this again.

Not a fan of Mr Springsteen

I love a ton of Springsteen's music, but this whole album was flat to me from start to finish.

In spite of Springsteens choppy vibrato and obnoxious vocal reverb, there were actually a couple songs that I liked. His voice is much better suited to this style as opposed to the style of his Born to Run album. The album started off very strong with the first track, during which there were times I forgot I was listening to Bruce Springsteen at all (a pleasant surprise). However the rest of the album felt like a dying horse limping to the finish line.

A mellow detour before Born In The USA. Evokes a mood: Wide, empty feeling. Need to be in the frame of mind to drive across Nebraska, or at least be pining for it, if that’s your thing.

Didn’t get it. Can’t think of what mood I’d need to be in to listen to this again and enjoy it.

While not the worst, this is way too close to country/folk for my comfort. Bruce has a nice voice, but I don't like most of his music at all.

I don't like Bruce Springsteen but at least this didn't make me want to rip my hair out. Definitely my favorite thing of his I've heard so far, but still not really for me.

One paced from start to finish. I get what it is but it is quite boring. Not my favourite outing from The Boss.

Incredibly boring, gets even worse with that shite harmonica blaring at me

Bit slow for me. Liked the tune about his brother

I get it, but it's not for me. I think I'd rather just read a collection of short stories about these characters than listen to this. Also, does anyone actually ENJOY listening to a harmonica? At no point do I ever want to hear loud, atonal blatting just farting over the entire song. It's just unpleasant.

Rating it this low feels criminal, but honestly just not taking the time to listen super closely and this is more like spoken word folk music. It’s more artistic than the kind of music I was listening to today and deserves a closer listen

My wife calls this "sad bastard music." (39 known/83 new)

I’m sorry, but that was just boring. I like a lot of Bruce’s stuff but this was just boring.

This one was disappointingly boring. I didn't relate to a single song nor did any of them stand out to me. The mixing seemed off. However, I'd be hard pressed to say it wasn't good.

While not my favorite Springsteen album, "Nebraska" delivers the gritty American folk one would expect from the artist. The record draws inspiration from other great American folk singers like Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan, which gives it a sound that is familiar, yet with a twist. That being said, not many tracks from this album stand out and none are Springsteen's best work.

excellent start to my foj weekend because it just gives americana and sitting around at the lake with my friends but listening to it standalone without the vibes is just boring

Eh not really for me

Meh, this album didn't really do anything for me

Just absolutely awful. Albums like this show that Bruce should either quit or just hold back on his albums until he has a decent amount for an album. Not everything he writes needs recording and releasing.

Album art:2

This was an okay album. I found it to be largely repetitive. Springsteen is overrated.

I hate BS

Allthe songs sound the same

no me ha gustado demasiado. es un poco lento y no es mi estilo

Bob Dylan derivative at times. Not special. Caricature of himself.

A bit slow, was it an acoustic album?

After some consideration, I decided not to use a private Spotify session. Although not a Springsteen fan, I have listened to this album before because of how revered it is. It's mumbly and mellow, I have never been to Nebraska, but if this what it is like, hard pass.

I think albums like this are where Country got part of its reputation as depressing music. Some of the songs are captivating but on the whole, not an album I’ll return to often.

Giving this a 2 - just not a fan of The Boss, but I can understand that this is good. Not for me, at all. 2/5

Nebraska 3 Atlantic City 3.3 Mansion on the Hill 3 Johnny 99 2.9 Highway Patrolman 2.7 State Trooper 2 Used Cars 2.2 Open All Night 2.3 My Father's House 1.4 Reason to Believe 1.9 Score: 2.47

it was fine, but I don't vibe with this one too much. Sounded like a demo tape, like it was missing too much, felt empty, even though the tunes were alright

Just ok

I have to admit that I was bored. In theory a stripped down, dark, album is a great idea, but this is a step too far for me.

i can't give this a 1. but i have many thoughts and they are not positive. i will need to revisit this, but it was overwhelmingly underwhelming. boring and sad. disappointment abounds.

Why you would ever try to make the state of Nebraska entertaining or remotely interesting by naming an album after seems ludicrous or a long shot attempt to maybe bring something to talk about to Nebraska. Nope. It’s just as boring and unforgettable as the state. Maybe that’s what Bruce was trying to do here🤷

Non mi piace la fisarmonica 7/10 generico

Album “chill” (da chill a 2 balls ci vuole poco, ascoltarlo tutto così mmm,un brano ogni tanto può starci ) (Dipende dal brano) Nebraska e Atlantic City Used Cars le migliori Atlantic city sembra un altro brano però non male (I want it that way) Le altre mah Melodie e in generale vocals mah Chitarra niente di che Classiche melodie country americano (Che non mi piacciono) I brani più movimentati sono anche i meno riusciti secondo me Open all night sembra Mark Knopfler però scrauso. Tipo

Not really feeling this one, pretty boring

Bossin around with basically just one song in different versions. Where one stops, I am told, the next began.

Eh. Maybe I'd like it more if I paid attention to the songwriting, but I just couldn't be bothered.

Actively didn't like it. Only one song hit the mark for me. The one about his brother.

Not a sound I like from Springsteen. I wouldn't judge someone who says this is a favorite album of theirs, but my first impression of this was that it wasn't great.

Is this when Springsteen decided he needed to be Dylan? While his voice is slightly more tolerable than Dylan's, his songwriting isn't anywhere near it. Maybe this is an album of poems set to music - again another Dylan style thing. While they stick with Springsteen's well known American working class guy with big or average problems, none of them are really good. The only one I got really invested in was "State Trooper" but it ended up going nowhere. I was hoping for a twist about a murder or something but it's just some guy that doesn't want to get pulled over and has a death wish I guess. I liked "Mansion on the Hill". The rest of this is marred by shitty singing, shitty production and shitty songwriting. This is pretty bad.

It's not horrible but it doesn't have a single one of the Boss's bangers. Next album will have hit Trump campaign song "Born in the USA"

Holy shit. Idc

Sorry girlie's I don't care enough about brucie pensive emoji :(

Technically proficient, but this has never been my kind of music.

Couldnt get into it

It was alright, not a very big Springsteen fan

Not my favorite of his. Too slow

boring and exactly what i expected from this man

the writing was good when i could pay attention to it but unfortunately this was so boring

Never been a fan of Springsteen, and this didn't change that fact. There were a couple songs I kinda liked, but mostly it sounds like he's trying to be Dylan. Which might be fine for a first album, but not for a (checks notes) 6th. Dylan does this better, as do Johnny Cash and Nick Cave, who have covered similar territory thematically.

4/10 - Bruce, you really killed it with born to run, but this was just boring. I feel like his voice even was not as interesting as it was during the other albums.

What a fun barrel of laughs this was! I can see Bruce fans enjoying this, when in the right mood, but for me it was just a downer.

comfortably very boring. the entire album could be one song really xD

Solo acoustic record from young Brucey. Rips off early Dylan quite a lot and, surprisingly, Alan Vega's Suicide in a meandering, dull set of songs about (would you believe it?) 'the dark side of life'. He manages to dial down the horrible throaty chest-beating stuff to reveal a nice singing voice akin to the currently fifteen year old Sun Kil Moon who would go on to outstrip this at every conceivable level. Nebraska isn't bad. It isn't good either. It's just there.

This does nothing for me. It all sounds the same, and it’s not particularly interesting to me. Bruce is no story teller, it all sounds inauthentic, there’s no heart and soul, no drama, no humour, no poignancy coming across in his delivery. Next

I'm told I'm supposed to enjoy this album and it's some of his finest work, but to my ears, this is just Springsteen doing his best "guy with an acoustic guitar" impression. The kind of stuff you'd hear played to death in a coffee shop in 1994. Bruce is a fine songwriter, and acoustic Bruce is also fine but maybe only for a song or two per album, but a whole album of that stuff is just too one note and drab.

this reminded me i haven't seen my bruce springsteen shirt in like a year

I really enjoy my routine of starting the day with whatever album I randomly generate. However, sometimes that does mean waking up already depressed and generating Nebraska.

Melancholy which I'm not used to with Springsteen. Hauntingly beautiful in places. Overall, this was pretty repetitive and dull.

I was honestly a little disappointed by this album. I understand he was going a different route and direction and that’s probably why this album is on this list, but it was haunting yet boring. I was wishing for something more and it just never came. If it had gone elsewhere- haunting but story telling or something, it would be more intriguing but i don’t know.

Sleepy

Didn’t like

Nebraska's a synonym for depression. Not a fan of this, all of them sounded the same to me. Boo hoo sad song boom harmonica.

Fave Songs - Johnny 99 - Open All Night - Reason To Believe (the Harmonica was kept minimal and it was also the last song lmao) As someone who doesn't like Bob Dylan (a few songs idm) a long Harmonica intro (anything more than 5 seconds is long) is just... already starting off weak. I proper strapped in and thought oh god I won't like this album. The songs I liked had some sort of image in my mind. Definitely something you put on while you're drink driving in a chevy through the Snake Pass or something like this album is giving #iwanttokms. Anyways, I prefer Born In The USA and I don't even care for Springsteen. I prefer Neil Young's brand of sad white man with guitar. Atlantic City was okies but I just hated Harmonica... I couldn't understand what he said in a couple of songs. State Trooper needed a beat drop. All in all, it's a 2.

I liked 4/10 songs. The rest of it felt very samey so I can only give it a 2 though it's better than the Neil Young album so I wish I could give it a 2.5

First listen. Not the biggest fan of this guy.

I didn't have high expectations for this after reading that the songs were demos that Bruce decided to release as is. Normally I would like the raw, stripped back sound, but these songs sound half baked. More time spent on them would have been a great idea.

Lite tradigt

It’s a bit too samey and lyric heavy for me. I might give it another shot in the future but this listen was a bit of a struggle.

Not his best. Needs some drums.

This is basically a folk album and as such I just found it boring. I'm sure the lyrics are beautiful and inspiring, but I don't really listen for the lyrics so that's lost on me. I like and appreciate Bruce and I could see this being good for a certain set and setting, but I don't think I'll be returning. 2.3/5

Ah, Bruce Springsteen, where did I go wrong with you. Normally he's more Americana than folk, and I don't know why he went in the Bob Dylan direction for Nebraska. He has his own sound, just like how Dylan has his. And I like Springsteen as he is, and I don't care very much for Dylan's style. As soon as this album started with the whiny harmonica, I knew I was in for a slog. Still, Nebraska had Springsteen's voice and touch, so it wasn't all bad. I just expected different.

Snore!

I liked Bruce way back in the day. I couldn't get past this though. Too lo-fi? Too sombre? That accent he puts on ? It just didn't click with me.

This got repetitive real fast. Quite a boring album, not the greatest day to listen to this driving in heavy traffic with too little sleep. Gotta give this 2/5 as I don’t see listening again

say what you want about the great songwriting - this thing is hard to listen to on a literal level. his voice isn't the best, and the simple instrumentals that could help under different vocals just don't suit him well.

Just depressing, not Bruce's finest. And what's with the fake accent, the man's from New Jersey

While I'm not a Bruce Springsteen fan, I'm not opposed to becoming one. This album didn't do anything to get me there. It was pretty one note of Bruce with an acoustic singing in the same tone and cadence for 40 minutes. This album should have been one song on another album. Hopefully his other work will do it for me.

I suppose this album is all about the lyrics. Los off story songs. But the monotone nature of his voice makes me not able to listen for very long. Most of the songs are musically indistinguishable from each other. As a person whose enjoyment of music comes mainly from rhythm and melody, this one is not for me.

Bleh Rating: 2.2

never been a fan of the Boss. his voice is too nasal/Dylan-ish. this album did not make me a fan. musically the stripped down sounds were fine. just not a fan of his voice

I rated Springsteen's Darkness on the Edge of Town a 3 but later came to feel that I'd shorted it, so when Springsteen came up again I thought I'd have a chance to make it up to him. Nope. I really disliked Nebraska. It's just sort of miserable.

As someone who grew up in Jersey it feels like blasphemy to give Springsteen two stars, but this was a boring one from the Boss.

decent vibes and a couple cool songs but boring

As mentioned before, I am no big on Bruce, sadly. I admire him for making this a bit of a different album compared to the other ones. Unfortunately it's not to my taste either. Everything just flew over my head, don't remember any song barely. Pretty boring overall. Strong 2.

Nebraska can't be *that* boring. Music needs a little more spice ig.

Personal, small-scale, stripped-down, and dull.

I love a bit of Bruce but this was dull.

A nice surprise. I generally find Springsteen really cringeworthy and just too American. This is a nice album though, understated, thoughtful, calming, nothing I would generally associate with him. It made for a pleasant evening.

Was listening thinking: this sounds kinda unfinished? Then I read the book entry that says it’s literally demos so makes sense

My least favourite of the Springsteen albums I’ve had so far. This one is devoid of any joy and the lack of E Street Band is both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because its nice to have a more minimal sounding album from the Boss without all that over the top embellishment the band provide, a curse because you quite quickly realise Springsteen needs all that bombast to cover for the fact that he is not the greatest vocalist. On the plus side I only have one more Springsteen album left to get. ‘Atlantic City’, and ‘Johnny 99’ are the only songs that really resonated with me.

al secondo album confermo che non fa per me

Not my favourite stuff from Bruce sadly

Tout comme le Nebraska, c'est plat, monotone et on se demande si y'aurait pas mieux ailleurs. Effectivement, on aurait pu...

Bit samey really, quite liked the first track as it was really atmospheric but then nothing else really happened over the rest of the album. I’m sure people absolutely love it, I’m just not one of them
