Reviews (page 14 of 15)
Never been much of a fan
Started out really strong with 15 Steps and Bodysnatchers, then it was back to Radiohead's regularly scheduled programming; slow, haunting, boring, artsy alt rock.
Some interesting sounds capes but one song temded to blend into another. Not really a fan of the falsetto singing either.
Okok I didn’t listened as intently to this one so maybe it’s better than I think but I wasn’t too impressed.

Literally what is this
I knew my annual attempt at trying to understand the appeal of Radiohead was coming up! Turns out... I still don't get it. I listen to so much music! So many genres and eras! I try every so often to figure this out because they are so damned revered but I just do. Not. Get. It. There's like on medium tempo song on this thing and the rest of the tracks just feel like they're drowning. And Thom Yorke sings like he's half heartedly trying to haunt me and failing. It's warbly ghost music and I can't make myself care about it.
Hmmm...
This album is where Radiohead lost me completely. It's just too experimental and cerebral for my tastes. A collection of complexly arranged noise. That said, Bodysnatcher is alright.
I’m going to be fair here and measure this not independently, but against how utterly wank the other Radiohead albums I’ve had to listen to are: this is not entirely shit. Please god never make me have to listen to them again, though. 1.5 to be generous and pray they don’t come up again.
I can't really say anything positive about the discography. When I listen to a sole song, I enjoy it, but listening to the whole album makes me want to go sleep.
OK Computer I really liked and listened to a lot, I think I have Pablo Honey and maybe The Bends in my CD collection aswell, which I got into after OK Computer. In Rainbows is too minimal to my taste, sort of stripped down version of the band I liked. They've also added a lot of ambient dissonance and chaos to the background, which sometimes feels out of place to me. I don't mind the album, but for me it's a weird mix of music, something I'd have on in the background and not actively listen.
Very Radiohead
Some of it was okay but most of the songs on this album are slow, boring and don’t seem to go anywhere.
Sounds anxious or antsy and yet repetitive.
Not my vibe.
Their seventh album. Indie Rock / Electronica. A bit experimental, well mixed. Less political than previous albums and more personal. Bodysnatchers is a good track. This is a solid album but I prefer OK Computer and The Bends. For me this one keeps promising you a great time but somehow keeps falling short. Still, an average Radiohead album is better than most.
A real snoozefest. I give credit for good execution and production but this is glorified background music.
In order to be one of my 1001 albums, the album has to have something more, something extra, something special. This is a fine Radiohead album. But that's all. It's not their first, best, or most influential. It's just a fine album. Meh.
I really don't like Radiohead it seems. I did like some of their hits, but this album left me bored. There were a couple of times I found my headbobbing to the music, but I have no want to return to it. In fact I remember listening to this album when it first came out during the pay what you want days, and I was glad I hadn't paid anything for it.
I really struggle with this band, but a lot of it comes from the band reminding me of someone I hate - Radiohead seems to attract the pretentious music types. So when I hear them the bias emerges. That being said I did like some of the songs, but others just seemed to rely on the falsetto vocals and syncopated beats without being interesting or discernible from the other songs that did that. But what do I know! I love power chords and sub 2 minute songs
Eh too whiney
Not for me but not bad, very whiny sound
Meh, not much melody, though not unpleasant
I’ve said before, I dislike Radiohead quite a lot. I find their music incredibly dull and the vocals very whiny, and it’s not just that I dislike the music, it also does piss me off lightly that they are so beloved. (Obviously this is an exaggeration, I dislike them but I obviously don’t care that people do, it’s an exaggeration please). This album didn’t change that, while certainly better than the last one I listened to for this challenge (Amnesiac), “Reckoner” in particular was a pretty song, but I just found most of the instrumentation dull and the vocals again were not something I enjoyed, but it’s not awful. I’m around a 2/5 it’s not something I like, or will likely listen to again anytime soon, but it’s not like terrible or anything I just fail to see the appeal.
Obviously talented, but navel gazing is still navel gazing.
standard radiohead album, delivered exactly what I expected, slow pace, drawn out lyrics, I find it tough to take a full album of it, although individually I can hear some really good songs
Radiohead doing Radiohead …unfortunately. I’m giving it 2 stars but only because I liked track 2.
Day522 - no need for anymore radiohead albim. i’ve had enough
Mediocre
Not quite as crap as the rest
Radiohead just isn't for me. Sounds great though. Just sounds like radiohead.
A bit slow. I didn't enjoy on the first listen. Like many of theirs, I will push through and may end up enjoying more in a future listen.
This English band has been together for quite awhile (since 1985), and this is their seventh album. It seems to me that Radiohead always has had a sort of cult following, although I never recall hearing their tunes on the top 40 radio. For me this album had a couple of decent tracks, but mostly forgettable. Sorry for you, Radiohead.
Tynn suppe. Finnes bedre RH-album.
I’ve never been a huge fan of Radiohead. Definitely struggled with this one. Highlights for me were, ‘Body snatches’ and that was it. Don’t think I’d listen to it again
In standard Radiohead fashion, I found this album to have some good parts but mostly too moody and repetitive for me. Overall- 2.5/5
Thom Yorke vocals are horrible
Inoffensive, but nothing actually happens.
This album confirms I am just not a fan of Radiohead. Great production quality, audio mixing and mastering is fantastic. I just don't care for the vocals / lyrics.
Every song sounded very similar, nothing really gripped me. Enjoyed the bass line in a few of the tracks.
Not my taste of music, little bit slow for my liking but can understand why Radiohead are one of the greatest
Ik heb het al vele keren geprobeerd, maar ik ben geen fan van de rustigere Radiohead nummers, zoals deze. The Bends bijvoorbeeld vind ik dan wel weer super. Sorry Radiohead fans. 2.4
The music was okay. It’s just that Thom Yorke’s vocals are not powerful enough for the music being played.
I use to tell people: "I am a Radiohead fan." However, I am actually not a Radiohead fan. I am an "OK Computer" fan. "In Rainbows" sounds exactly like how wet toast tastes.
Okay album. I liked it better than “Kid A”.
Bit dreary, fairly forgettable
uhh didn't really paid much attention to it
Slightly less bad than I remembered
Eka biisi alkaa vallan vauhdilla, mikä oli ilahduttavaa. Sitten levy on taas tuttua tunnelmointia. Se lähinnä nukuttaa. Vikassa biisissä on sentään koukkuna kiva rumpukone.
Oh goodie.....another Radiohead album. FUCKING BBBBBOOOOOOOORRRRRRRIIIIIIINNNNNNGGGGG. Not only that , I really went for the pain and listened to the Flaming Lips and Radiohead back to back. One album from each would be fine for this list. No more. Author is clearly a fan boi of shitty indy/brit pop.
this was not for me felt like a concept album that lacked direction and ended up feeling like just noise than anything else.
Radiohead needs to be a little less depressing - not a good album for my mental health today. Also, I kind of miss the older Radiohead.
I remember when this album came out and everyone was buzzing about the "pay what you want" thing. I don't love Radiohead, their songs all sound the same to me. It's a fine sound when it's on, but it's not one I ever find myself actively seeking out. Honestly, it's a 2.5. I don't know which way I'll be rounding.
2/5
Mid background music
Didn't care for it
It was okay. Not really my thing
I know people love this Radiohead album. I don’t. At all. I like some of their albums a lot. But to me this is aggravatingly meandering.
I just can't get into Radiohead. I do remember the pay what you can release being really neat. Personal enjoyment: 2/5 Relevance to this list: 4/5
Seemd weaker than OK computer. The atmosphere and the lyrics didn't resonate with me as much. Sonically it was interesting, but not that complex or inovative. All in all, the album seems a bit too simplified.
мне не очень нравятся Radiohead( 3/10)
Kuullut Radioheadista hyvää, mutta tältä albumilta ei yhden kuuntelun perusteella jää omaan soittolistaan yhtään mitään. Höh.
I want to like Radiohead but I can't. It just all feels so pretentious
Nor heard this one before. Gave it a listen, still don't get Radiohead. Cue lots of "Ooh but they're the best thing ever in the history of everything, how can you not adore them?" Whatever, get over it.
I remember this as one of the first pay-what-you-want albums, I thought I'd do the decent thing and paid £10 for it. Later I found a bunch of my mates paid £0, and made fun of me for being a mug... bloomin' cheapskates! Turns out that I didn't like the album, and the cheapskates loved it, go figure!
Slow, spacey and melancholy. I can see why people like it but it's not for me
Ugh...I know this album is like super highly regarded, but it just doesn't cut it for me. It's everything I dislike about Radiohead with none of the things I like about them. The entire album is so...gloomy. Ugh....Actual Rating 1.5. Liked Songs: Bodysnatchers, House Of Cards, Jigsaw Falling Into Place (the best song by far)
I'll never understand why these guys are so highly regarded.
A few songs were not unlistenable. I call that a win for a Radiohead album. The good news is that I think this is the last one I’ll come across on this project.
Everytime I hope to like a Radiohead album, that never happens...
Just not a fan of Radiohead.
Some interesting tunes, but Im clearly not their fan
Already Listened
Sömnigt…videotape var ganska bra.
Maybe I was in the wrong mood, but this was just boring and dull.
**An ok album, not my cup of tea.
..
eh, its radiohead fav track: 15 step
Maybe better than I was expecting but still don't get it.
There's some attempt at interest musically but it is heavily not for me. Doesn't rock, can't dance to it, doesn't bring joy. Instead feels like something to be appreciated. You can't go and play outside again until you've eaten your radiohead. Stuck some breezy Hello Mello pop on afterwards and it felt like a weight was lifted.
It's radiohead. I just don't like radiohead. But I have heard worse on this list so...2 stars.
Very weird but it's quite special nonetheless
Regrettably, I did not enjoy it. I know it's a classic but it set off the nope alarms in my body.
Depressed kid music, don’t care
The worst album from a band spiraling the drain creatively does not deserve to be on this list. It isn't absolute garbage but it is a substantial step down from the bends or ok computer.
good easy listening. honestly sort of forgettable and probably won't listen to it again.
I've tried, I swear I've tried so many times, where is the 5/5 coming from. Other than Jigsaw Falling Into Place which popped up near the end like "oh hey this is good" the album is all the same, nothing distinguishing itself from the other songs.
Not as annoying as Kid A
Boring tbh.
I don't get it.
A landmark album for non musical reasons and probably deserves to be on this list. But man, I sure don't enjoy the vocal stylings of Thom Yorke.
Sorry just not enjoyable for me
They are not getting much better. It really is an Emperor’s New Clothes situation with these guys
Please schedule interviews with all the folks that rated this as 5 and let's have an intervention please. This is sadly ordinary and the vocals are irritating mostly throughout. A couple of songs seemed ok, but the last track put me over the edge.
Me and Radiohead are not meant for each other.
I feel like I'm missing something here. I found this pretty boring and I don't really know if it's that I just don't understand it or if it just is.
I suspect that ratings for this are either: 5 stars - musical and lyrical perfection or 2 stars - I appreciate why people might like this, know that I probably should like this, but just can't find the hook that draws me in.
Radiohead stuff, seemed like a lacklustre attempt to recreate past successes.
I think this is the third Radiohead album I have heard on this list and I can definitively say now that I don't like them. This is probably my favourite (so far?), some tracks having tunes and rhythm, but overall the meandering whine-rock doesn't do anything for me.
Soulless. This starts where Radiohead went from my favorite to just confusing. Not a huge fan of any of the tracks. The music is repetitive, looped, computerized, noisy, bordering on boring and has no heart. Gone are the killer guitars, the emotional sing along vocals, the sound breaks, it's just a wall of sound now and not in a good way. I find myself getting 2 mins into each song and fast forwarding. "House Of Cards" is the only real keeper but "Jigsaw..." is solid, "Weird Fishes" (until it wanders aimlessly for 2 minutes at the end) and "Reckoner" (until it also wanders aimlessly for 2 minutes at the end) have their moments. Weak overall, and certainly not Top 1001 quality!!
Just boring.
I really don't understand the hype for this band. The singer just drones on and on. I will give them credit for this album being the first pay what you want digital download by a major act.
Yeah, even in this iteration of Radiohead's musical evolution, I still don't really get it. Probably never will.
It's fine. Nothing really stood out. It's not bad, it's just not that interesting. I'm trying to figure out what's notable about this album, and I think it's only the pay what you want release. Which makes it culturally notable, but does the release and marketing affect the experience of a work of art? Should it? Should it over a decade later? I don't know. I support the model, but the work is meh.
das können die besser
Not my favourite Radiohead...
⭐️⭐️ no questions asked
**Shrug**
I like Radiohead. But not I have to say I like MOST Radiohead because this one was a snoozer.
I get that Thom Yorke has his own style, but man, I'm getting bored of it. The whole album just washed over me, it felt like one long whine.
I've often wondered why I don't listen to other radiohead songs other than creep. I now understand why I don't listen to other radiohead songs other than creep
It was good... I think? The songs kind of blended together after a while and all sounded the same and sort of disassociated a bit so... maybe I'll have to relisten at some point.
Didn’t know this album existed. Ok. Kind of discordant and experimental sounding. Not one i’d revisit.
Is this the 4th or 5th Radiohead album so far? I've been trying to get into this band for 20 years. I think it's safe to say I'm not going to get it. I just think it's ok.
Started off interesting. Then I lost interest.
It was okay
Yeah i'm just not into Yorke's vocals, holds back the whole album for me. Favorite Track: Weird Fishes/ Arpeggi
Bodysnatchers, All I Need, and Jigsaw Falling Into Place were alright...
Few decent songs but I didn't really enjoy it overall. Very sad sound.
More upbeat than I was expecting. Highlight tracks were nude and house of cards (which were more slow radiohead i was expecting). Saying that I'm not sure I'll ever sit and listen to radiohead. The strokes came on after and I much prefered that
Just not into Radiohead. I guess there's something to it I'm not getting.
Beyond odd songs, I can’t really get into Radiohead. That’s not to say this is bad, far from it, but it’s not something I’ll seek out again. 2.5
Perfectly pleasant, but not in any way exciting
Not for me
Mood music
Musically not appealing, lyrically good. Sadly my lowest rated Radiohead so far. Listens: 1 Fave Track: All I Need Rating: 2
Alright but not their best
woof, did not enjoy this almost at all. this album was the reason i didn't get into rh sooner. the last couple songs were the best!
Not a fan of this one.
Not bad exactly, but I couldn’t find anything that interests me even after multiple listens.
Some interesting sounds, a couple of standout tracks, but largely as dull and dreary as my little exposure had led me to expect.
I listened multiple times but nothing pulled me in.
Just can't get into these guys
No. Still not a Radiohead fan. In life, we just get bad music. It happens. Damn near everyday. Just because the record companies and all forms of media need to make money, and try every angle to sell you crap, it doesn't mean it is good, or that we have to like it. Just say NO! We can do better than average.
As the first on my list to listen and review, I was excited to see it was Radiohead. I loved all of their 90's albums, but hadn't listened to any of their albums released after that. I have been meaning to listen to the newest album, Kid A mnesia, but now after listening to In Rainbows, I might put that off even longer. I was disappointed listening to this one overall. It started off ear-catching with Track 1 but then was just background music while working until Track 8 House of Cards, which I enjoyed. Keep in mind this opinion is coming from someone who does not have an appreciation/understanding of the tech side of music or music theory.
So. It's on me that I accidentally listened to the "Live from the Basement" version of this album first and then had to go back and listen to the actual album. That's not their fault. I didn't like this album though. I'd rather be listening to other Radiohead.
An example of the psychedelic and experimental rock variety, Radiohead’s album “In Rainbows” catches my ear but not enough to hold itself. 🥇House of Cards 🥈Jigsaw Falling Into Place 🥉 Video Tape HM: Weird Fishes/ Arpeggi
To me, this is one of the more boring radio head albums. And while I at one point enjoyed nude and weird fishes, listening in full did not hit for me. Am I missing something here? It seems like everyone is in love with this album. I honestly don’t see Thom Yorke farting into the mic as a transcendent album.
Didnt like it
I only know the Name of the Band - but so songs
Didn't like them then, still don't like them now. IDGAF how acclaimed they are.
I just don’t think I’m a Radiohead guy. Their music doesn’t “speak” to me. The vocals are boring, the music isn’t particularly catchy.
Thom York's wailing doesn't impress me as much as some. Solid, but uninspiring.
OK. Not really my style.
Geht so.
Thumbs down.
Radiohead is one of those bands where I like a few individual songs and that’s it. This album feels a bit whiny.
Wasn’t a fan of the style tbh
Wohl Geschrummel, aber tatsächlich den Eindruck nach zwei Tagen schon wieder vergessen.
2/5 sadly too calmy
Interesting to listen to but didn’t love the dissonance or vocal style. Heard the band before.
Love Radiohead, but not this album
Not for I
pretentious
A couple decent songs, but most of the songs are just a 1 bar riff repeated ad nauseam with the singer whining over the top of it. There’s no memorable hook, no powerful bridge, no dynamic changes in most of the songs.
With the universal approbation Radiohead receives, I would like to like them, but they don't do anything for me. The further you get into their discography, the less they appeal to me. My heart is teflon; Radiohead doesn't stick. I don't know. Maybe this is like how other bands grew on me over time, so it's possible that I'll discover what everyone else hears when they listen to Radiohead, but for now they remain the World's Most Overrated Band.
Not my vibe as an overall album, but I like a few tracks. 15 step is a standout
more like boringhead hehehehehehehahahaha
All time favorite
Sometimes wonder why certain albums get selected - assume this one is here because of the 'pay what you want' thing - it's not their best album and nothing really notable about it.
Not their best
Only listened once. Radiohead is kind of hard to get into. Can never understand Thom Yorke singing but they have their own sound for sure. I would give this another shot (and probably will) but for now 2 stars
This was... trippy? I don't know what I really expected but it wasn't this. Overall it was good but I don't know if I'll come back to it anytime soon.
Not for me
only good one was weird fishes
Enjoyable, but I'm not in love :(
I really like Radiohead, some of their songs have cult status on my playlist, whatever that actually means. But there is one problem with this album - it sounds like the most boring mashup of Thom Yorke's groaning and moaning, with occasional guitar riff in the background. It was honestly one of my biggest achievements, that I could survive that album in full. I'm still a fan, but I will avoid In Rainbows with a wide radius.
Esoteric wailing, not my thing
I know this is a celebrated album, but I just don’t get Radiohead generally. Nothing stands out on this album that would drive me to re-listen, but there’s nothing I exactly dislike either. 6/10 Okay album; okay day.
They just kinda softly sing about something, IDK, sounds alright
I hate Radiohead and although I have listened to this one before, I did not like it on a second listen. Why is Radiohead considered one of the best bands ever? I just don't get it, their music is so mid. 2/5
Better than Hail To the Thief but i still found it really samey
Meh. Some ok songs
Jane said "some of it's sort of nice, but mostly it's a bit of a racket" and "I can't tell it apart from Coldplay". I concur.
2 - felt it was getting good and turned out it was onto another album. ha.
Radiohead really divides me. I appreciate them to some extent on an intellectual level, but from a pure enjoyment perspective they often miss the mark for me. This album was the same.
A bit too experimental, i didnt get a connection with the songs.
Despite the fantastic musicianship and interesting song structures, Radiohead seemed to lose the ability to write lyrically in their later albums. So hard to connect with. Nude comes the closest to capturing that magic of OK Computer and The Bends thematically, but lacks substance.
I love Radiohead, but this album feels a lot like b sides and jams. I recall they put it in some sort of protest fashion against the music industry. Pay what you feel . I didn’t pay.
Listened on 3/20/23 2/5 Favorite song: 15 step I wanted to like this but for some reason every song was incredibly irritating and I had to stop myself from skipping a lot of them - maybe I’ll be more cultured another day
Bellino, rilassante. Non lo riascolterei però..
this was really disappointing i thought i was going to love this album but i didn’t even like it. just very boring to me and nothing real special about it
Whining aural soundscapes is what I expected, mostly what I got. Maybe a day isn't enough to get into it, nothing really drew me in
One star for putting this out as a pay what you want album. One star for 15 Step, one of the band's best songs. Half star for Bodysnatchers. I'm out of stars to give, and I'm rounding down because there are too many Radiohead albums on this damn list.
Except for Creep, Radiohead have never done anything for me. I listened closely to this & I have to say I would not cross the road to hear any of it again. There’s nothing wrong with it. It just bores me.
I miss loud guitars. And tunes. There some actual songs on here, but most are needlessly obtuse. If I listened to this 20 times, I'm sure I would find things to like, but I just wish it rocked a bit more like 'Bodysnatchers', a brief highlight for me on this otherwise lethargic album. Yeah, a whole album more like Bodysnatchers is what I want. I'm sure that if I listened to this a lot, I could learn to love this, but I'm just not bothered. I really liked The Bends and OK Computer, but I feel like Radiohead are stuck in a willfully obtuse rut. They can't work up any real energy, and it has just devolved into abstract droning. And not droning in a good way. If you read the ecstatic reviews that came out on the day of release (eg BBC or Pitchfork) it really feels like the emperor's new clothes. But I just don't see anyone that excited about this album now. It's hard to imagine myself ever getting enthused or passionate about this album. If I had to conduct Berry Gordy's sandwich test (https://www.christinebedenis.co/2015/10/09/motown-museum/) for this album, I'd be eating a sandwich.
it should be good but i just can’t countenance radiohead, except for the bends, the bends was cool
I found this about as cheerful & engaging as the other Radiohead one on this list so far. This one a bit less grunge-inspired, but a similar mood and left me feeling the same, ie not sure what all the fuss is about. Nothing stood out here for me particularly.
I hate Radiohead. This is so boring and overrated.
Radiohead was a good international band.
Enjoyed the instrumentation on this album but found the tracks overall to be a little monolithic. The lyrics and vocals were, candidly, whiney. An album professing unrequited love in near atonality and watery musicality. Not exactly my vibe.
Wants the be seminal but comes in off as insipid
Wack
A little too trippy for me.
Beetje wazige muziek. Voor mij niet swingend genoeg en niet genoeg melodie waar je echt kippenvel van krijgt. Het blijft een beetje langdradig, beetje saai zelfs. **
xaropinho
Radiohead is some seriously limp-dicked wuss rock hey. 2/5.
Amazing
Gloom, doom…
I want to like Radiohead but I'm just not into their music - idk it just seems kind of boring. Can appreciate their work and why others like it, though. 5/10.
Endless. Thanks to every song being sung in falsetto (or at least, the upper range), it got tiresome pretty quick. Didn't hate but definitely not adding.
Bit disappointing, the music was just a big mash, the singing was mainly ooooohs and aaaaaahs and the structure of the songs was non existent
I love Radiohead when they are producing thoughtfully, but I feel like a lot of what gets onto the albums subsequent to their attaining fuck you money is just them messing around in the studio and might not necessarily end up in the final production if they had to think about the listener a bit more.
I went to a Radiohead headline set at Glastonbury in 2017. Lasted 5 songs before getting bored and wandering off to watch the flaming lips kill it on another stage. This album is even duller than that live set was. Its remarkable to use so many intricate musical techniques and still make a record as dull as this. In its defense the last two tracks are great and its worth sticking with through the dull bits. Anyway... I'm off to listen to some Flaming lips. 2/5
Maybe one catchy song. Otherwise, pretty boring and self indulgent. The most memorable part of this album was it's release price.
Aburrido.
Really strong 2.
Not heard before. Even though I know everyone loves them, I gave up on Radiohead after OK Computer and, honestly, listening to this I feel vindicated! I don’t get the hype at all.
Not my case really.
This album struck me more as music than songs, in that there wasn't a feeling of one song ending and another beginning. My rating would likely be 3.5/10 despite my desire to like it.
Couldn't get into this tbh
Nope. Sorry, still don't get Radiohead.
Ok
Some songs were ok
Did not enjoy
A few good songs but nothing overly amazing
meh
Needed more rainbows to bring any kind of vibrancy to this one. False advertising cover art. Started quite positively but then quickly descended into the same old dreary Radiohead for me. I just can't get on-board with Thom Yorke's vocals. Best track: Bodysnatchers
Not a huge Radiohead fan but this wasn’t too bad. Not something I’d usually chose to listen to
Joyless. Perhaps the album title is meant to be ironic.
Hm, not quite what I expected, found it weird to listen to. More distracting than enjoyable.
Maybe its because it was the day of the England semi-final but I wasn't really feeling this today.
Boring
Not into radiohead
Not bad. Nothing really wowed me. Felt like a lot of noise. Very experimental.
Meh. It’s Radiohead.
Sounds alt for sure, lyrics don't come through easily. Lots of guitar blocking and a kind of driving ticky percussion.
All I Need - Best Track so far. forgettable first half Jigsaw falling into Place - Best track on the album Videotape - Alright, Don't hate it - enjoy the piano Average Album
Expected more
@@. Very ambient sounding, liked two tracks.
I wasn't expecting this to be good ambience music, but it was. I'm not sure how to feel about that though.
Meh. OK sound, but not my thing so far. 2
Radiohead-kokonaisuudeks ihan siedettävä
bad
The melodies were really good. but, not my type.
couldnt get into this one at all. nowhere near as many memorable songs as Ok Computer, so I gave up half way through
Probably the worst opener of this entire project so far. The rest of the album isn't much better. If you want to hear a skinny British dude wail, there's better choices.
Cool... more falsetto whimpering over the top of what sounds like a forgettable 2000's rom-dram soundtrack. This album might have sealed the deal that Radiohead is my least favorite band ever. The only positive thing I can say about this is at was under an hour long.
Not a fan
As I've said about other albums that I've reviewed before, I may not be high enough to listen to this. But we might as well tackle *In Rainbows* from Radiohead. Let's open up with some bit-crunched breakbeat with some poorly enunciated, highly nasal lyrics, which actually, looking at the text, won't help you at all. This is not an auspicious start.*15 Step* should probably have taken that sheer drop at the end of a short walk. I hope there's a pier involved. Where do I start with *Bodysnatchers*? On the positive side, the vocals are mixed a little more intensely in, so you can somewhat make them out. Right up until Radiohead shows you how much they love Bit Crunch Distortion and starts cranking that up over everything. The lyrics do paint some sort of coherent image, but all they do is sketch it. I see what they are talking about, but it's meaning without purpose. It is, ironically enough, the shape of rebellion without the substance. If that's what they meant to parody accidentally in their song, then I'm going to give it a huge thumbs up, but I suspect that's not the case. A third of the way into the album, and we're saddled with *Nude*, a track which combines all of the sloppy enunciation of the previous two songs with a lugubrious and lazy rhythm. High, whiny vocals and nothing really to say. So far, it's been a Batan Death March in this album, and I really hope it picks up soon. Finally, something I can kind of enjoy. *Weird Fishes/Arpeggi* is slightly better enunciated. It appears to be a narrative about getting out of a bad relationship and thinking rotting at the bottom of the ocean is better than being in it, which I think we can all empathize with. Sure, it's still full of mush mouth and a little bit of crunch distortion, but instrumentally, it's quite nice. Maybe there's hope. You know, I don't think I've ever said the following words together before, but: if *All I Need* had a little more ambition, it could at least aspire to being goth. It simultaneously wants to represent all the people who have been friendzoned, stalkers, or incels. This is a little bit beyond their ability. Ultimately it just ends up sounding like edgy 14-year-old journal poetry. This is another song where instrumentally it's fine and without the lyrics it might even be great. It took until track six, but Radiohead's singer finally discovered that enunciation is a thing. Unfortunately, the trade-off was he lost the ability to have anything but a monotonal delivery. *Faust Arp* is an interesting song despite itself. The cynic in me wants to interpret it as a criticism of their general fanbase: vapid feathers stuffed in their brain, melted by drugs to soft butter, obsessed with no reason. In fact, the lack of reason. Yeah, so far this is the song I empathize the most with. It couldn't last. I knew it couldn't last. *Reckoner* returns multi-tonality to the singer's voice, though it's really only three tones and they're all screechy and annoying. Lyrics? They're there for noise. Don't try to make any sense of them. They're not even meaningful poetry. They're just words thrown together in a semblance of form. I think I'm starting to see a pattern here. For a moment I thought *House of Cards* was doing something unexpected in making a reference to key parties. For those of you who have never experienced the 70s or consumed any media set in the 70s, that was where you had a party and everybody threw their hotel room key into a bowl. At the end of the night you pulled one at random and went home with them to have unattached sex. Then I realized that *In Rainbows* was released in 2007 and none of the people involved had any clue about key parties, and this is just a relatively straightforward song about cheating on your spouse, which is fine, I guess. There are 300,000 country music songs which follow the same pattern. I'll give it this. It has a coherent theme and a coherent throughline, even if it is painfully repetitive. Instead of the bit crunch distortion, *House of Cards* is completely awash in this soft reverb which takes the edge off of everything—to its detriment. It is coherent and it has a sensible lyrical strand, and that's about all I can say about that. I suppose it had to happen eventually. There's actually a song on this album I actively like: *Jigsaw Falling Into Place* is a nice piece of music. It has a clean acoustic melody guitar backed by some nice solid synth bass. The lyrics are clear and well enunciated. The song is actually about something. It is surprisingly good after we've spent this much time getting here. So it was a long way hiking uphill to get to the penultimate song. We finally fetch up on *Videotape*, which, while the last track may have been the one I liked the most, this is actually the most interesting track on the album. Is the singer-protagonist about to blow his own head off, or are they dying of a terminal disease? It's impossible to say, though the latter would fit that stupidly extended playout, which in a music video or movie would be accompanied with increasingly sad images played off of VHS. Sure, it's way over-reliant on repetition in the middle, but it's an actual, coherent, sensible song, which has been in short supply on this album. Do I like *In Rainbows*? No, it's clearly not for me. In fact, Radiohead is clearly not for me. There are a couple of bright spots, but they take a lot of work to get to. I don't recommend it.
I would like to rate this higher. Love this band but I won't listen to them now.
Eh
Wasn't in the mood.
God, I find this irritating and I am a Radiohead fan.
Nope
caca midf
I liked Reckoner but the rest was crap
I’ll probably get loads of hate for this… I can’t stand Radiohead. Many years ago, I tried to listen to OK Computer, and had to turn it off halfway through. Ever since then, I’ve had no want, nor made any effort to listen to anything by them. But… in the interests of this project, album 43 has presented me with the dilemma. Do I skip it as I can probably guess how this is going to go? Or suck it up and try and get through 43 minutes of Thom Yorke whining about something or other? I chose the second option, optimistic that I may have changed my views. And by track three, I was wishing I hadn’t bothered. 10 tracks of slow whiney lyrics. The only good thing it has going is the drums aren’t too bad. Otherwise I will be glad that there is one less Radiohead album I have to sit through before completing this project. Sorry to anyone who loves them, but it’s one out of five for me. Standout track (if any) - Weird Fishes / Arpeggi
I'm just not a Radioheader.
Another boring one.
Honestly, this was just a lot of layered noise. Nearly unlistenable.
Definitely prefer earlier Radiohead. That was pretty boring.
More Radiohead. Fifth one so far. More whiny boring junk. Moving on. Best song: Jigsaw Falling Into Place
Starts off a bit more kid A and amnesiac and then gets much more into rock territory. U2core guitars on body snatchers and a great breakdown. The vocal layers that open ‘nude’ are super cool but the song itself was pretty meh. Arpeggi weird fishes is beautifully textured. All I need was dull as dishwater - all I need is to hit the skip button. Faust arp is like badly drawn boy done badly. Pretty much done with the album at this point tbh. Feels like a 2 and that’s honestly generous. A yawnfest for xennial beige Camry driving dry white toast people. Coldplay tier.
People like these guys because why?
Don’t like Radiohead.
Hot garbage. If I gotta hear Thom Yorke whine in that crap falsetto one more time I think I'll scream. Gimme the Radiohead that sang "Creep".
I keep my opinion about Radiohead. Too much noise for a band that isn't brilliant at all. They have taste and good ideas, but the delivery isn't great. This album has, again, songs that sound all the time the same. They also become very long, but because they are pretty repetitive. Most of the songs are repeating the same structure all the time with no changes but by incorporating new elements (just to enlarge them) like strings or whatever they want to use (in this album there is an abuse of strings, and they don't mean anything sometimes, they are just there for the sake of being there). And, honestly, it doesn't prove me anything, just that they like to be repetitive, pretty plain and... what else? It's not that they are non-commercial, it's that they don't evolve the songs in any sense, they are simply bland, just to use one word. I guess for them to not be mainstream means to be boring... For me it means to break conventions and explore, make something because you want to and not because it's what the public expects from you. And I already knew how it was going to sound before clicking play. I guess everyone has an opinion here, for sure. But, that non-commercial image is what makes them mainstream, paradoxically. And, I don't get why they are so enhanced. I'm happy for them, I guess, but this kind of music doesn't make me feel anything.
0 should be an option
Radiohead is a whiny version of U2. Just horrible.
I always thought the Radiohead were a bit dirgey and wailing. This was no exception.
did you know that there's a female only Radiohead cover band called Labiahead - they only cover good Radiohead songs so zero from this fucking album Hail to the Queef!
Enough of Radiohead. Didn't listen.
fuck off
Yuck. Cluttering mess.
Ok alternative/rock band from the early 200o’s. Personally , I believe they’re a one hit only band.
Puke.
Don't like radiohead
Expected tuneless caterwauling and was not disappointed. Although, to be fair to the lads, Bodysnatchers is a rocking tune (never thought I'd say that about Radiohead...). The rest of this album just cements my opinion of Radiohead as pretentious, irritating, overrated guff.
Great. Another whiny Radiohead album. I wish I could give it less stars
Not really a Radiohead fan TBH, seems bland
shit
Just so damn pretentious. I just don't understand the appeal. It would be no stars if that was an option.
Thom Yorke is one of, if not, THE worst vocalist ever to disgrace this earth. Each song was so fucking dreary it drove me to insanity. At least OK Computer had more tempo changes, or at least some interesting stuff, even if it was crap. The couple of times where I thought to myself, "oooh, this bits ok" (usually at the start of a song) that prat comes along with his nasally, whiny voice of his and decimates everything. What's that Liam Gallagher quote about Thom shitting in a light bulb or whatever? Probably the one time I've ever agreed with anything he's said.
First listen
i put it on and then it finished. i dont remember a single lick of this album. snore.
Some Radiohead I have liked, but not this one.
Fuck Thom Yorke.
dont likey already listened oncey
Bleak in so many ways! The project is 1001 albums BEFORE you die, and this one brought me close.
I never got Radiohead
"Wakey wakey rise and shine" mumlar/kvider Thom Yorke halvvägs in i skivan. Ingen lyssnar. Det här är ett riktigt sömnpiller. Mer ett sound än ett album. Det kanske finns fantastiska texter och tematik i låtarna men jag får ingen lust att ta reda på det. För mig är detta bara Muzak.
I just don't understand the appeal, couple of cool motifs throughout but overall I just don't feel it. it brings nothing to the table
Hate u radohrad
Yep. Still hate Radiohead.
Honestly kind of bored by this one.
I did not care for this.
Great? No. Good? No. So, so? No. Bad? Yes.
Awful. Take themselves way too seriously, and then deliver boredom.
Radiohead has never been a hit for me. Sure there are catchy tunes that have become radiobops, and therefore earworms for anyone who's ever dialed in to a radio station. Radiohead has all the pieces of what would make a very Sam Band ™️; British, experimental, ambient, instrumental style vocals, concepty albums, with the moodiness of shoegaze softboi aesthetic. It's very much a weak point for me, yet I dislike all of those aspects of Radiohead. They aim and miss the mark so gloriously. I couldn't even tell you which song it was where Yorke switched up his vocals for a moment and was actually somewhat bearable, but it was nothing but fleeting. I understand how people can enjoy his methods, but it just sounds like someone softly releasing air from a barely full balloon to me. The melodic instruments could be enjoyable if they picked a consistent avenue to drive down. Instead it felt like I was on the edge the entire album waiting for it to start, and tbh I was happier the ending came before any kind of beginning even happened.
I enjoyed basically nothing about the album and don't see how it made the list. I don't know much about Radiohead but pretty sure they have better albums.
Tch... Did Radiohead really deserve a second seat at this table? No. No, they did not. Other than the way this album was released and "sold", I can't see any other reason why it deserves attention or a spot on this list - which is for albums you must HEAR before you die - not albums that disrupted the industry or have an interesting backstory. Judging it solely for its auditory value, it's terrible. The vocals are whiny and mumbly, and the instrumentation is bland and repetitive.
