Not just for dads!

As a career civil servant, I really appreciate David Byrne’s support. It’s been a helluva year but I am working hard and trying to be strong.

Watchgaze

I bought Green when I was in high school, but I didn’t really “get” it, and so I didn’t give it much play time in my Walkman. What a loss for my teenage self! Fortunately, my adult self came to better appreciate what REM and Green have to offer.

My dad was a big CCR fan, and listening to them always reminds me of him.

Albums described by words like noise and dissonance are generally not my thing. But I kinda liked this album. Kinda.

Sounds like a not-very-good Bowie knockoff album. I would give it a high 2. I rounded up because it’s almost Christmas.

Perhaps if I was in a good mood, I would be entertained by this album.

A-ha! Finally drew a fun album after a string of unfun listens.

I will definitely listen to this again during the holidays! I can look past the major Phil Spector blemish.

I thought my French comprehension skills were decent. Apparently, my French comprehension skills are not decent. And so the pedo content went in one ear and out the other. Fine by me. The music was fun but the vocals were not my thing.

I sure do like the idea of Bob Dylan.

Enjoyed the instrumentation but not the vocals. Could not take this guy’s vocals.

I’m glad I listened to this but I’ll tell you what, I never want to listen to it again.

Birds eat it Ants love it Fowls eat it Goats love to play with it I’ve never loved weed but the birds, ants, fowls, and goats have me thinking that I should give it another try.

This album warms me up on a frigid day.

Solsbury Hill is on my short list of all-time favorite songs. The feelings it gives me are hard to put to words — confidence and empowerment and accomplishment to be sure. Perhaps the best way to articulate it is that it is the song that plays in my head when I cross finish lines, both literally and figuratively. On a recent vacation to Bath, my husband and I made sure to climb up Solsbury Hill and see the city light. We were bummed that we didn’t see an eagle, only cows. Maybe next time.

I am docking a star for the ridiculous length of this album. May my wrath serve as a warning to other artists contemplating this sort of stunt.

1977 was fine but I liked 1984, 1989, and 1999 a lot more.

Jam bands usually get on my nerves and this one was no exception. DNF.

These punks almost have me believing that I like their kind of music.

I really liked this album. I’m not sure I’ll choose to return to it much (my bar for a 4), but I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt.

This is shake your booty music. These days, most of my booty shaking is done while pushing a vacuum cleaner or a lawn mower. Or exercising. Today, I listened to this album while riding a bike to nowhere. It was perfect for that. The beat at a perfect cadence for a long, steady climb. I’ll definitely dial this album up again.

A couple great songs embedded in an awful album.

Oh Thunder Road. It’s absolutely my favorite song, and Born To Run is absolutely my favorite album. Part of why I connect with this song so much is that I feel like Bruce is singing about my dad. My dad didn’t have a Mary, or a guitar. But in 1964 he had a graduation gown at his feet, a dirty hood, two lanes, and an urgent need to leave behind a town full of losers.

I really dig this! A new artist for me.

I’m not sure if I listened to what I was supposed to, but in any case I got irritated by whatever it was pretty quickly. DNF.

Another great new discovery for me - the second this week! I knew and loved Q-Tip’s work from his time in A Tribe Called Quest but I was not familiar with his solo work.

I should knock off a star for Apple Jam, but won’t.

Plus one star for White Rabbit. I could listen to that song on repeat and never get tired of it.

The childhood memories flood back with this one. Some of the songs are best left in the 80s, but most are still bangers.

Finally! After 256 albums, I have finally drawn my first Beatles album. Today is going to be an amazing day!

I wish I could rate this album higher.

Not bad, but not good either. A lot of songs, most with a similar sound. Favorite parts, sadly, were the Black Sabbath and Zeppelin samples.

A great new-to-me album!

Lots of eye rolls with this one.

I am waffling between a 3 and a 4 on this one. The interludes are overdone and detract, but the music is great. I am going to focus on the music.

One of my desert island albums

While I enjoyed some of the songs on this album, most left me feeling anxious and in need of hitting the skip button after a few minutes.

Rounding up to 4 because Dolly is an amazing human being.

I really dug this album. I look forward to seeking out others by her.

At times this album got dangerously close to the edge of annoying.

Another desert island album

Wow, yet another of my desert island albums — the fourth in a month! Listening to this album brings up all kinds of great childhood memories.

The songs are fine, maybe even good, but the album went on for way too long.

I couldn’t find this Fats Domino album, but I had fun listening to a bunch of his top songs.

Ugh.

I love pop, but I could not listen to this.

When it was good, It was very good indeed, But when it was bad it was horrid.

I am giving this a 3, but the last two songs make it hard to justify…

This album would be better if the musicians all tried harder to play the same song at the same time.

Pleasant album that might work its way to a 4 with additional listens.

I can’t separate art from artist with this album and listening to it makes me sad on multiple levels.

I thought this album was solid, but it didn’t blow me away like I had wanted it to.

Some songs on the album weren’t bad, but overall I never want to hear it again.

I was able to tolerate this album until I hit the title track.

This came out in 1967, you say? Or 1947?

I got this album in college. I’m pretty sure I got it for a penny through one of my many BMG subscriptions. I haven’t listened to much since those days. It was fun to revisit it, but it will probably be a couple more decades until I do so again.

I couldn’t find this album on Apple Music or YouTube, so I listened to an available playlist instead.
