Classic.

Classic, never gets old.

Great album with some amazing all time classic tracks. Think it would be a crime to give this less than 5 to be honest. Influential and timeless. 5 stars

Zahran. Bons tempos. 10/10

This is one of the greatest albums ever and my favourite David Bowie album

Fantastic

Girl, what a great piece of music! 10/10

David Bowie is and always will be one of my fav artists. Played this album twice. My favourite song is probably hang onto yourself or five years, but HM to suffragette city. Can't help but think of the marauders in the 1970s.

Ziggy. Fucking. Stardust.

Brilliant. 5 stars

Haven't listened to it for ages, and still sounds great. Clasdic

I loved this

Heard this album lots before but love it! My favorite track is easily Moonage Daydream

One of my favorite albums of all time. From start to finish it is incredible, the instrumentation is so meticulously arranged, it set the framework for concept albums that followed it, I loved this.

"I've listened to this album before and I think it's a little overrated. It's not at all a bad project, it definitely has its merits, but when I listened to it for the first time, it left a bit to be desired. So a while later, I listened to it again, and that feeling persisted. I might listen to it again for this review, but as it stands, it's an 8/10." Is what I said when I first rolled this album, but then I listened to it again, and I think I was hating for no reason because it's genuinely fire. I think I may have to relisten to some albums before making these reviews in future, because this is a 10/10.

A perfect album. It’s got hits, depth, a concept and influenced countless other bands.

I can't have an objective decision on this one. This album makes me cry sometimes and only because of the memories it brings from the past.

I think it’s my favourite Bowie album, just wall to wall bangers. A whole world created. Perhaps the best opener and closer to an album of all time?? Its unreal how good this album is, i love it. What an artist 5.0/5.0 Best Song: Five Years/Rock N Roll Suicide

It's superb its wall to wall bangers, a huge start and a massive finish. It is hard to pick a favourite song on this, its such a great album as a whole thing, it all flows so well together. Moonage Daydream does stand out to me as particularly special though.

Love Bowie :)

Certainly in the top 50 most important albums ever, you can read Wikipedia or a BOOK to know more on that. Moonage Daydream is probably my favorite Bowie song that isn't on Station to Station. Crazy how well this album ages.

👨🏾‍🎤

so fricken tuff!

banger na banger 😩

Another I have not listed to through but hear dmany singles

Bowie's breakthrough and transformed pop music. Easy 5

Pure classic. The production, the songs, the cultural impact.

Favorite tracks: Don't make me choose Genuinely, this is pop rock madness. Ziggy is full of unreal melodies, creative chord changes, the greatest rocking guitar parts, dense but crystal clear arrangements, an unending well of wit in Bowie's lyricism... there are dozens upon dozens of aspects of this record that people could only dream of attaining. Very few songwriters can write music as dynamic and endlessly enjoyable as David Bowie.

One of the best. 6/5 11/10 RIP Bowie

Loved it, Bowie in complete control

A classic. Solid 5.

Learning more about Bowie has been one of the great joys of this project.

What a tour-de-force of an album. I love absolutely everything about it. Bowie's expressive and impactful storytelling is probably at its apex here; not just through his razor-sharp, emotionally dextrous lyrics, but also through the sumptuous melodies he concocts, and the dazzling array of instrumentation which combines into such grand, genuinely moving soundscapes. I hadn't listened to Ziggy Stardust for a fair while before this morning, and it really did solicit something in me this go around. Five stars, absolutely no question.

This was great and I’m glad I listened. Added some songs to the rotation. Turns out I knew some anyway

I really shouldn't have listened to this on the bus for my first listen; a new take on rock (and early punk) was unfolding in my very ears! The drums on Five Years are so sample worthy, Bowie sings in a higher register here, and the arrangements are quite consistent. Starman being popular on Tiktok made me like the whole concept of "Ziggy Stardust" more. P.S. Also TF? I just listened to some songs off this record literally the day before

Primer recomendado

I had never thought that I was ever going to listen to this record. I was unaware about the quality of it and oh boy it really amazed me how well of a story my boy David elaborated here on Ziggy Stardust. The sound also surprised me a lot and I'm glad I got this album recommended. I mean, this is the glam rock I've avoided for so long. I have to admit that I'm loving this album so far, not only because "Starman" is in this album, but I have to include Soul Love, Lady Stardust, It Ain't Easy, Ziggy Stardust and Suffragette City in my highlights, not only for the sound but for the story it built around this "spiders from mars" band and the thoughts, description, adventures and of course the rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust.

Yes, I’ve heard it before, and I own this one. But it’s been at least 5 years since i spun it. This is my first review here and I am expecting I have heard most of these before. This is a classic rock one that isn’t in my dad’s collection so I mostly heard it on classic rock radio and, being an album with a lot of bangers, I had heard every song on the radio over the years before ever listening to the album in its entirety. Something like this is hard for me to think of as an album after hearing everything by itself for so many years. The nice thing about concept albums is they are specifically meant to listen to as a complete album in the order that they play. This is like Bowie’s fifth or sixth album and maybe his second or third persona he’s acted as and he’s really firing in on all cylinders creatively. Putting aside how overplayed these songs are along with many imitations in multiple genres inspired by this, it’s a goddamn good album from start to finish and I like it more than ever after just now relistening. Solid bangers all across.

So original! David Bowie was one of a kind and was one of the innovators for theatrics in rock. A++++

This album is an automatic 5 star because it has Starman and I just love that song so much.

The second 5 star David Bowie album on my 1001 journey, and this one is better than Station to Station. A great little narrative and an album full of timeless, melodic songs. I'd listened to it before and loved listening to it again. Apart from well known songs like Starman, Ziggy Stardust and Suffragette City, personal highlights include Five Years, Moonage Daydream and Lady Stardust. The weakest track maybe Hang On To Yourself, but it's relative and would probably stand out in a collection of other songs. Some people have just got 'it'. Bowie had it in spades and proved it on multiple occasions.

All killer, no filler. Amazing songs.

In my top 10

So much better than Station to Station sorry

It's a classic for a reason. No skips, big hits. 5/5.

Masterpiece

Above 5, from start to finish

The king of the concept album, this is a jump off to some really amazing work from Bowie. Classic!

Iconic. There’s more out there.

The Good: 5 years! The Bad: Not enough! The Ugly: The look of dread on my face when the album is over… Fuck me… what a gem. To think that I never really delved into Bowie that much. I’ve played this album 8 times since it was presented to me 2 1/2 months ago. I have nothing to say that has not been said better by others… and for those people who rate this album lower than a 4* I can but suggest you go see a psychiatrist! 5*

Classic - 9/10

One of the best music records in history and I'll fight whoever says otherwise. I LOVE Bowie and I genuinely believe this album is a masterpiece.

Great album, one of Bowie's best. Moonage Daydream, Ziggy Stardust, and Starman are worth the rating alone!

What more can be said about this that hasn’t already been said a thousand times. It’s one of the best. 9 / 10 Best track/s: Moonage Daydream, Ziggy Stardust, Five Years, Starman

Been a favorite for decades.

Woohooooooooo love

it's really special that an artist as diverse and legendary as David Bowie can have an album that defines his oeuvre as perfectly as this. i think i like Blackstar more but this is really something special. platonic ideal of glam rock. deserves to be one of the 1001? duh

ziggy!! it's iconic and a masterclass. production, lyricism, vocals. you name it, he hits it out of the park

It's totally a basic bitch choice, but song for song this is Bowie's best album. So many classic songs.

Songs I saved: Five years Soul love Moonage daydream Starman Lady stardust Ziggy stardust Rock n roll suicide

Legende

Moonage dreaming, Starman

It seems weird to start this review by focusing on someone other than Bowie, but really, this album see's Mick Ronson produce some of the all-time greatest guitar work in history. He is so, so, so good, from the big beast riffs that everyone knows (the title track!) to just the quality, clarity and vim of his playing throughout. What an experience it must have been to see this performed live. Anyway, Dave. There will be know iconoclasm here; this fully, without qualification or hesitation deserves its place in the list of GOATed albums. It has the tiniest, tiniest dip in the middle, but that's almost a positive thing, because it leaves you ready for the all out assault of the title track, Suffragette and the closer. Answer me this, by the way, is there another artist in history who could deliver the 'wham, bam, thank you maam' bit in Suffragette City, without instantly losing any credibility? Only Bowie.

Almost a ten

Big fan of David Bowie, especially as Ziggy Stardust. He really was a starman - enjoyed alot!!

(100/100)

Timeless album

Great, classic.. But my Bowie kink really kicks in 2 decades later

Had so much fun with this record. Bowie is the GOAT.

Absolutely brilliant. How are we so lucky to have been alive at the same time as David Bowie? This album rocks. I love the eccentric space themes, I love the blues and psych elements mixed with pop and dance rock. I love the way he kind of opera yell yap sings. Its kind of sexy and abrasive at the same time. This record just has so many rad moments. One minute you have guitar solos and the next is cool saxophone solos. All bangers all the time.

Fantastic Album, I think this is my favorite Bowie album, so consistent and so many bangers.

This album gave me pretty much every emotion. I loved how his imagination was so well-portrayed on this project, even telling a story at some points. There is genuinely no lows on this album, the closest being It Ain't Easy which isn't even a bad song in my opinion. Favorite: Rock'n'Roll Suicide Least Favorite: It Ain't Easy RATING: 9.4/10

In my opinion, David Bowie is the most overrated artist in the history of rock music. He's a talented and interesting musician, but critics (including the authors of this book, who included a third of his entire discography) are of the opinion that you should idolize him, otherwise you're a trash and don't understand anything about music. But this album truly deserves to be added to the Bowie pantheon; it's his finest work. Everything works against the grain: there's nothing special here, the melodies are quite simple, and yet the overall mood is incredible — bright and energetic. The album seems conceptual, telling a unified story, but at the time the songs were written, it wasn't meant to be; they were simply arranged in the right order. It's still a great listen fifty years later, but when it came out, people must have been absolutely floored by it. A classic, in short, worth listening to and re-listening to.

Favs: Soul Love, Moonage Daydream, STARMAN!!!, Ziggy Stardust

Not only the best glam rock album of all time, it's one of the best rock albums, period. Bowie was firing on all cylinders on this one. Every song works perfectly within the context of the album and some of his best songs are found here--"Moonage Daydream," the title track, and "Suffragette City" are my personal favorites. Just amazing how he could make these transitions within his career, he was truly the ultimate chameleon and this was one of his very best personas.

Pretty much a perfect album. Sci fi inspired rock and roll for the space age, totally unique and different to anything before or after it. It's actually crazy to me that elvis burst on to the scene only like, 15 years before this, and how much rock music shifted and evolved in such a short timespan. I think the way this is constructed is ideal too, starting with the apocalyptic Five Years, the hits spread pretty evenly throughout, and the weirdly heartwarming Rock and Roll Suicide to close. Should be high on any greatest of all time list

Listened to this album some years ago but it was better than I remembered.

Quite possibly Bowie's best record from beginning to end, and a staggering Moment in pop culture. Ziggy became more than a character, and that allowed him to both explore new musical styles while also retreat into himself. Even more than Bowie's writing is Mick fucking Ronson absolutely shredding from the top rope, snarling licks around this alien telling us all to boogie. It's still mind-blowing today, and it still whips major ass.

It's really great and all, but........it's not my faaaaaaavorite. It's not as cool as Station to Station or the Berlin Trilogy......am I really going to be that contrarian?.....No. Shake your head and smarten up. I'm an alligator.

Peak Bowie.

Greatest Bowie album

MY SHEILA

I already had listened

Ziggy takes us on a wonderous journey with him exploring new identities and music that still sounds fresh over 50 years later. Even with the hindsight of over 40 years of Bowie evolution and musicianship this album still stands firm as an early expression of a master storyteller who enthralled and challenged us.

One of my top 5 i think

24/1001 🇬🇧👨‍🎤 24 albums in and this is my 3rd Bowie record already. This is really going to take some beating. For me, 5 Years is one of the best ever album openers and one of my favourite Bowie vocals. Moonage Daydream is Mick Ronson at his best and Starman is just an iconic song. The last 3 tracks are absolute perfection too. There is simply nothing throwaway here. Outstanding. Best Tracks: Moonage Daydream, 5 Years, Sufragette City.

9 - EXCELLENT

I am not a massive Bowie fan, and not really listened to this album much so it was an interesting listening experience. The album really starts well with Five Years. An incredible opening track. it really maintains this intensity with songs like Soul Love, Moon age Daydream and Lady Stardust, and then of course it is propped with the incredible hits Starman, Ziggy Stardust, Suffragate City. Outside of those three I think Moon age Daydream is my standout track. This is easily a 4 star album. Do I want own it? I think I do. 5 stars

6 star classic

Amazing album literally beauty perfect love it

Classic

Great artist

very enjoyable, what a legend this guy is. Am only starting to appreciate this fact now he's gone

Best Song: Five Years An old favorite of mine and always a pleasure to listen to. David Bowie was another odd character but in all the good ways. This is a staple to his collection and should be a must listen to any connoisseur of music. 5/5.

It was amazing.

good album

So many of the songs from the sessions for this album are top notch. Still, this is a stone cold classic.

Thank you Mam.

Great album and my favorite from Bowie, is a must listen

This was the first Bowie album I ever bought and it's still my favourite. Strangely I wasn't really a big fan until after his death, but since that time I've been a convert and collected most of his albums. This band, with Mick, Trevor and Woody, were a really special unit, epitomising the glam rock excess of the early 70s. The whole concept of the Ziggy story and image spoke to a broad audience, with a particular call to those who may have thought themselves to be misfits in some way. Ziggy is a true 70s classic, but it's also ageless.

I enjoyed listening to this album. Never really got familliar with David Bowie. This one will hang for me for a while.

It's Ziggy Stardust! I enjoyed getting to know this album better. After a few rotations it really gets under your skin. Although the production isn't as full or expansive as some of the peers from 1972, the sheer quality of the songs tower above the rest. This has undoubtedly had such a big impact on society and has left an unforgettable imprint on me.

This is a great album all the way through. I've never researched the song lyrics to see if this is a concept album all the way through. Is this the best Bowie album? Hunky Dory is pretty strong all the way through as well. I have nothing bad to say about this album.

I’ve had this album for much of my music listening life and it is always good to revisit. It is hard to believe that Bowie was still playing intimate venues when making this album as it is so self assured. It is a sort of concept album taking on the persona of a huge rock stat before Bowie became that huge Rock Star himself (mainly through this album) Only some of the songs sound a bit dated now (not at the expense of the music) and much feels pretty fresh and timeless. Listening to the Arnold Corns versions of some of the songs show that there was a step change in the music style when it came to this album. It certainly doesn’t feel like the music is over 50 years old. The Ziggy persona influenced so many artists and music going forward. I understand that the first time this was seen was as influential as Punk, and as shocking as when Boy George appeared on our screens. 5 star for Music, Style and Impact

5⭐️ no notes

Espectacular. Uno de mis álbumes favoritos. Qué afortunado me sentí ayer.

Just unreal

★★★★★ (or just ★)

A stone-cold motherfucking classic. All 38 minutes of it.

Outstanding

I loved it

This album is fantastic. Never thought I would’ve enjoyed it like I did.

An all timer, and one of my personal favourites. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

ZIIIIIIIIGGGGGYYYYYY Great mid afternoon album. 8/10 Fav song: ZIIIIIIIIGGGGGYYYYYY

One of the best of all time

Loved it

There are no skips. Masterpiece.

Perfect. It’s theatrical, it’s dramatic, it’s big and bold. This album made me really dive into David Bowies music.

FIIIIVE STAAAARS THAT’S ALL I’VE GOT!

Fantastic

Hard to describe this as anything other than a masterpiece. It was already one of my top 10 albums of all time so hard to not give it anything other then 5/5 Rock and roll suicide is great. When he goes YOURE NOT ALONE! Ya know, ya feel like youre not alone :( Five years is the greatest intro ever Starmans amazing. I keep watching the TOTP clip and when he starts hit little pointing thingy with mick ronson you realise hes just the greatest rock star of all time. And the other three spiders from mars are hull/driff lads so whats not to like.

Brilliant 👏

Undoubted Classic. Takes you on dynamic journey, not predictable. Lesson on how to order and structure an album. Doesnt overstay its' welcome. Leaves you wanting more.

Great album. This is my go to Bowie album has lots of hits. Would like to give it 4.5 but the rating doesn’t work like that so gave it 5 because 4 is too harsh it’s better then a 4

Perfect album

Every song is good. Theres some real hit classic on the record too, but don’t sleep on the b sides. This is a masterpiece.

Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars is about (from my knowledge) how the world is going to end in 5 years and there is only one person who can stop all this and his name is the titular Ziggy Stardust where he promises he will save the world if they (Earthlings) believe in him and his power to deliver on his promise. Very Christ-like. The album is filled with Bowie's characteristic eccentricity, left-field lyrics. One of my favourite examples is in the title track where they introduce him (Ziggy) and his band (The Spiders from Mars) then the song goes onto make a quip on how he plays guitar left-handed, which is not where you'd think it'd go on next after the introduction. If I was kid in the 70s I would definitely be all about the glam revolution. The album starts off with "Five Years" which is one of my favourite songs ever made, everything about it is my favourite. The drum beat, the memorable/quotable lyrics, the mood, the urgency, the screaming (especially the screaming.) I'm honestly not sure what Ziggy is doing during the middle part of the album, but the title track is apparently where Ziggy dies metaphorically or literally, I can't tell honestly. Then that amazing build-up in "Suffragette City" passes ("Wham bam, thank you ma'am.") Then the final song is "Rock 'n' Roll Suicide" where it closes the album, the ending with the strings and all is just amazing. Literally the perfect ending. Highlight Song/s: "Five Years", "Starman", "Hang on to Yourself" and "Rock 'n' Roll Suicide"

This album is like writing a letter to your parants having left your small town home to try and make it big in another country, and finding unimaginable success. Taking a job waiting tables at a country club, you assumed it would be a while before opportunity would come knocking. Turns out it would arrive quicker than you thought. While at work, you are asked to go and refill the hand towels in the bathroom. You walk in on a movie producer racking up a massive line of Peruvian marching powder. He doesn't even care that he's been found, this dude is flying. You strike up a conversation about how you love his movies, and loosely discuss directions that a sequel to his latest blockbuster could play out. The guy loves every suggestion you make. Unsure if it is the cocaine or your ideas that have this guy so excited, you sheepishly suggest maybe you schedule a coffee meeting. "Fuck that!" screams the man, and instead beckons you over to partake in the narcotics. This is a real fork in the road for you, as you've never done this sort of thing before. But the potential opportunity is too big to pass up. Fast forward a couple of months, and you are on the set of the next big movie, celebrating wrapping and inviting everyone back to your house for the wildest party imagineable. All the stars from the movie come, and they bring friends. You are drinking champagne and shooting heroin with movie stars, rock gods and front page models. As you write a watered down update of your life to send back to your mother, you can't help but think that this lifesytle can't last forever. You tell yourself you will never forget that celebrity-status is fleeting, so you'll enjoy the hell out of it while not taking it for granted.

Fantastic album through and through. Songs, music, lyrics, themes. A great

the album artwork itself is worth 5 stars. good bonus, that the music is also fantastic.

walking around UW freshmen year, eyes wide open. "I had to phone someone so I picked on you/ Hey, that's far out so you heard him too”

It's a classic for a reason. Not even really Bowie's best album, but still five stars all the way.

Ive alr listened to this album but its still a great one nonetheless

The perfect album to send me to start this off. I really needed this today. Been feeling very low. Realizing my hope/belief that he was unhappy is just not true. That he doesn't regret leaving, doesn't miss me, and just went back to her as if it was nothing. Despite all that she did before and how little everyone around him likes her. That I wasn't good enough. I wish this wasn't as hard as it is. That I was stronger. But music makes it better. And Bowie is perfect. This is such a fucking great album.

great rock-like album. It's very unique

Love love love 💜

It's a classic. Bowie being phenomenal.

David Bowie never disappoints so this was great

An amazing album but what can anyone say that hasn’t been said 100’s of times already

Génial.

I don’t understand the reviewers here who say this album is just a few 10/10 singles with filler. Or the people who say this isn’t spacey or operatic enough. Are we listening to the same thing? Are you hearing the swelling strings in the outro of “Moonage Daydream”? The tortured “You’re not alone!” in “Rock n Roll Suicide”? This is the first I’ve listened to this album since I had the crappy early digital master (pre-remaster) from the 2000s and had remembered this as a mixed bag of hard rock cliches. Boy was I wrong. Any song on this album could have been a single. Additionally knowing this comes right on the heels of his 1971 album Hunky Dory really helps me understand more about what made this album so singular. Many rockists would have you believe that this album defined Bowie but Bowie rather defined glam for an entire generation through this era of postmodern experimentation. These songs hang together as a melancholy tapestry; Bowie envisioned rock as the soundtrack to the apocalypse just as it was exploding into tons of subgenres. This is so much more than the hard rock staple “classic rock” dudes like to pretend it is.

Rare that an album has such a good concept and execution. Haven’t listed to this in a while and really enjoyed it

What poetry, that we got this album ten years to the day after David Bowie's passing. This is one of those albums that just defies explanation. It perfects glam rock. It perfects David Bowie's penchant for adopting otherworldly personas, this time as the alien saviour-turned-washed up rock star Ziggy Stardust. It perfects its chosen narrative of societal collapse, drugs, sex, and burnout. And it also helps that all the songs individually are bangers, with iconic hits like Moonage Daydream, Starman, and Suffragette City peppered throughout the runtime. Rest in peace, David. You came and visited, and you certainly blew our minds.

this is my favorite album o.a.t. already so uhhh no new notes!! my favorite song is rock-'n'-roll suicide

THERES A STARRRRRRMAAANNNNN!!

Iconic

Masterpiece

3 chefs d'oeuvre.

10/10. One of the best records ever made.

Listened to this a few years ago on Andy's suggestion and thought it was fine but wasn't in awe. Today I'm in awe.

I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEE THIS ALBUM 🗣️🗣️🗣️

There is no fall in here

There was no one like him and this was his best.

Songs: 10/11 Amazingly great album. David Bowie really is an amazing storyteller and writer when it comes to his music.

An absolute classic, the guitar work is unforgettable and a nice raw production. A true piece of art

Loved it

Classic. Wonderful to revisit.

One of the best albums of all time Amazing storytelling No skips

This is the second David Bowie album and what an album! "Starman" is understably the most memorable song, but I also thoroughly enjoyed "Moonage Daydream" and "Rock 'n' Roll Suicide". An album I would easily go back to another time for a full listen through!

More amazing songs on here than I realised

I lov it.

10/10 no skip album best song is 5 Years worst is It Ain’t Easy

Nothing I can say about this work of art that hasn't been said already. As essential as any piece of art from the 20th Century ever was. Prime Bowie. Flawless. Godly and dirty. Play it loud. Louder. Let the windows shatter from within. A decade since we lost David Bowie. I was 14 and cried long and hard. What a day.

I always wonder if people actually like these albums or is it just the aura of the person that made it. As soon as I pressed play on this album I immediately felt like the dumbest mfer in the world. This is phenomenal music from top to bottom, I’d cut off a finger before I’d ever hit skip on this. My bad Mr. Bowie, my bad.

I'd never listended to this album in full. I do like the Bowie and mostly I've like what ive I've listened to. Know the singles, so was pretty sure I'd like this album. It was better than expected. Fantastic! Excellent album.

Here ya go! Love this one. Probably my fave by Bowie.

such a good storytelling album

Second full listen. Obviously classic album. Already familiar with the singles and the deeper cuts are great as well.

first time listening as a complete album. 2 minutes in and i get the praise. i love the theatricality. i can hear the origins of some of my favorite musicians/songs in this album.

My 2nd favourite Bowie album behind “Hunky Dory”, ziggy is a masterpiece- I have my original copy on vinyl, five years beautiful- Starman, that’s what he was a “Star” man, Bowie was the 1st true icon in British music🙏🏼

Another one where the kiddo and I disagree. He says 5, I say 4. Kiddo wins. 5/5

One of my favorite albums of all time. Undoubtedly works better as a whole, most of these are 10/10. My personal favorite is ‘Soul Love.’

I never really connected with Bowie, but this is pretty much a masterpiece.

Pretty much a perfect album. Great songs, great concept/story, great album cover, one of the best opening tracks. I could listen to this over and over again.

Disfrutando

Fantastic. Can't believe I've never listened...I'm embarrassed

I’ll be a rock n roll bitch for you! Top 5 rock album ever.

I definitely don’t think it was a wise decision to throw away many of the advantages I had in life to pursue my collection of strange and ultimately fruitless artistic impulses. In fact, most days I regret this path fairly intensely. But when I listen to this album again, the way I did when i was 18, I can at least remember why I chose it.

I used 'confidently weird' to describe Radiohead and now wish I'd saved it for Bowie. I fucking love this album. What a treasure

Incredible, and oddly not one I appreciated quite enough until this listen through.

Not much to say about this. It's a classic for a reason.

I just really like stuff on this album. So much meat to it.

Fantastic album, classic Bowie, amazing songs... nothing new to add. "Let all the children boogie"

Legendary Epic

It’s one of the most well known and high-ranked albums for a reason. Just weird enough. A good beat & lyrics. An awesome story. I love concept albums and albums that tell an entire story.

“Rise and fall” is a very apt descriptor for this. A deserving classic.

Easiest 5 stars of my life. Also my first 5 star rating for the baker's dozen albums I've reviewed thus far. Full disclosure, I've listened to this album before, as I love David Bowie. Ziggy Stardust is remarkable, yet it barely scratches my top 5 Bowie albums; that's how talented the man was. If I'm to give any critique, I suppose it's a bit disjointed for a concept album. Also, "Hang On to Yourself" and "Suffragette City" are pretty 'meh' songs by Bowie's standards.

How is every song so damn good? As the track would turn I would find myself saying, “yep, here’s another banger”. I love the horn grooves, something I hadn’t keyed into in the past, and the explosive moments. 5 stars!

One of my all times

I didn't think I would give a Bowie album a 5 but this deserves it. Great songs throughout. Wasn't expecting to like it so much

Album rating: 8.8/10 Rankings: 1. Soul love 10/10 2. Star man 10/10 3. Moonage daydream 10/10 4. Rock n roll suicide 10/10 5. Suffragette city 9/10 6. Five years 9/10 7. Lady stardust 8.5/10 8. Star 8/10 9. Ziggy stardust 8/10 10. Hang on to yourself 7/10 11. It ain’t easy 7/10

Amazing

great record

5 stars, no notes. How is this the same guy as that last terrible album? This is way less bubblegum maybe? More interesting

hey bowie i know this is you

Top notch from start to finish.

feels like you are listening to history and such an iconic piece of work... which it is.

Perfect blend of eccentricity and rock genius.

Flawless album. Can listen to Moonage Daydream over and over (and I have). It's an album for anywhere, anytime, really.

508/1001 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗 MARAVILLA!

no skips great project

top 3 and it ain’t third or second

An easy 5 (years) today! Masterpiece

THERES A STAAARRRRR MAAAANNNNN

Five stars. Truly a masterpiece that transcends time and space. From the first beat of the drum like the first heart beat of a newborn child, through the soaring guitar solos and string arrangements like new life experiences against tradition, to the despeartion of a cigarette as reprieve from the harsh reality of living, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars is the penultimate artistic representation of human existence.

Perfect.

Almost all songs that you know and love already. Didn't quite sense an underlying storyline or theme? Maybe I'm missing something. But there are some stellar songs on here, and some interesting sounds in the background. Edit: after~125 more albums I came back and gave this the five it deserved.

Absolutely classic.

Specielt soloen i moonage daydream.

Overall: 10/10 Every song on this one is an absolute BANGER! Love me some Bowie and this is arguably his best work (even if I prefer Hunky Dory slightly). I don't have much to say that hasn't been said before, but I'll point out that I love how a weird thing like this became mainstream. Bowie deserves his legend status. Fav Song: Moonage Daydream

Wow holy shit

Yeah, this is one of the all time greats.

First one ever: Heard of him before but never tried his music before and man I've been missing out. The first track Five years is really nice where the entire song was the crescendo into the main verse of the song of 5 years. In Soul love I really like the underlying saxophone beat. Moongage Daydream's guitar was amazing. I did hear Starman before which did like. It Ain't easy was the first song that really stood out to me with its powerful chorus. Finally, the slow movement of rock n roll suidcide was a great conclusion for the album

“I’m the space invader, I’ll be a rock ‘n’ roll bitch for you.” I am not sure if there is a better summation of this album than Bowie’s line from Moonage Daydream, which this time was my favorite track. It was-and still might be—It Ain’t Easy. Next listen will be something different I am sure. I have been trying to unlock this album for so long it feels like it has been perpetually part of my life. Hunky Dory was good. Space Oddity was good. This album introduced the world to Ziggy, and Bowie became a rock god himself. What I think made this album amazing was he combined clever storytelling, an unusual sci-fi theme, concept album continuity, psychedelic rock, and quality musicianship but Ronson, Bolder, Bowie and Woodmanskey, all taking on multiple instruments. Bowie even played a little saxophone in tribute to his roots. There’s not really a bad song on the entire album as it all flows into one gigantic super weird story of the rockstar God himself. Starman was also my favorite song at one point. But you can’t go wrong with suffragette city as well, even though I still don’t know exactly what it means. In the annals of rock history, this album definitely deserves a spot in the top.

Not a fan. Music wise, quite pleasant. Poppy. But not sure about vocal/recording. He can sing but he chose to record the album this way - not the easiest for me to appreciate. Many times I can’t even tell where the correct notes should be. Maybe he sings impeccably, the notes should be in between two black keys in the piano. Starman good. Other tracks are also good. David Bowie is like durians.. you like it or hate it. And this album is like a durian cake. I like cakes, and I don’t durians. But come to think of it, it was released in 70s. So it’s still impressive to challenge what is supposed to be the “right way”. I see the artistry. Although I can’t fully comprehend it but I can recognise it. Still a five for me.

This has to be the most accessible Bowie album we’ve had so far. So much fun to listen to and still holds up so many years later. Starman always makes me want to watch The Martian. I think this album is closer to a 9/10, but I’m gonna round up because this truly is an album everyone should hear.

Iconic!

Took everything great from hunky dory and expands on it, such a fun listen

No, this is my favorite Bowie album.

Es Bowie

One of the best albums ever.

Loved it. Never listened to it fully before but this was a great experience through and through

Love this album, classic David Bowie. Finally, a good album.

its hard to say anything new about an absolute classic

A stone cold classic. Ashamed to admit I was previously unfamiliar with this. Five Years is a real huge hook of a song that really sets the mood. This record is a self-defining 'sound', with some compelling sonic moments. Healthy amounts of tension, intrigue, and release.

bowie always does it

Let all the children boogie… Not sure I can write a better review than just that . unquestionably innovative and well crafted, a classic. Five Years, is such a great way to start the album, building to a climax. Soul Love, Moonage Daydream and Starman are a great glam rock trio with amazing guitar work from Mick (Ronson). It Ain't Easy, drops the quality a little, but a still a strong middle point of the album before an amazing ballad in Lady Stardust Title Track and Suffragette also a couple of bangers before ending on a sombre note with Rock and Roll Suicide. It’s a 5 obvs

Perfection!

Just great all around. Would listen to this over and over.

it’s good, it’s sad

Ziggy definitely played guitar. Guitar heavy classic for a reason. A pleasure to listen to.

Exciting and eclectic. Bowie at their best.

My first 5/5 album. This is a straight masterpiece from top to bottom. It's how album should be, no fat, just 11 songs that don't miss. 'Five Years' has this slow build and the little repetitive chant that sucks you in, and once you're in, you're sticking around for the whole thing. 'Moonage Daydream', Suffragette City' are the big ones, but this is a no skip album at it's finest and the one Bowie album I will always go back to. You'll come away belting 'It Ain't Easy'.

His best album with no misses. Great mixture of good backing track and emotion lyrics. It Ain’t Easy to dislike this album.

Yep. Serious talent. This just one phase…

Unreal album - forgot how much I liked it

Great album

I've listened to this six or seven times in the last week (more than any other album in the project so far), hoping to spark a review into life, but it's too overwhelming. All I've got is this: Every time I hear 'Moonage Daydream' and he sings "lay the real thing on me", I cry, and I have no idea why. Five stars

high 5 its funny how complex and sophisticated hunky dory is. tracks like "8 line poem", "life on mars", "the bewlay brothers" - really great, measured, artistic stuff. One album later Davey B throws it all away for pure pop fun, yet of course its just as good. I can't think of anyone else """going backwards""" more effectively. It really shows how "artistic sophistication" is just a matter of flavour. daves mastered all sides and can turn the dial at will, delivering high 5s at both ends. if i had the confidence my perfect karaoke songs are on this album. members of my household regularly enjoy performances of lady stardust, ziggy stardust, 5 years, moonage daydream and rock n roll suicide. theres a really nice ramen place that me and ruth visit regularly on the street where the cover was taken, id highly recommend it. its interesting to see the scourge of on street parking was already uglifying london in 1972. Legal litter i call it. Not davids fault of course, at least the cars were cooler.

B2B bangers It's Bowie's best and it's iconic. So eclectic and so sexy

One of the best songs to ever open an album. One of the best characters ever created to sing an album. One of the best albums.

It's freakin Ziggy Stardust...

GOATED album

My final Bowie album on the list. I'm not sure if it's my favorite, but it has to be in the conversation. It kicks off with some fun glam-rock before reaching the stratosphere with Moonage Daydream and Starman. Lady Stardust kicks off the second side on a more subdued beat but there are still fun rocking numbers. Suffragette City is a personal favorite but they're all good. There's a reason this album is so regarded. It's the perfect mix of mainstream appeal and experimentation. It's the face of a genre. Rating: 4.9

Killer Bowie.

I mean… it’s perfect

Classic, iconic and perfect. Listened to it back to back :)

I only have 36 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ albums out of 4000 odd on Rateyourmusic, and this is one of them - & the only Bowie. Just perfect.

obviously dude

Yeah sorry this one is great. Complete package. Not a wasted moment and every moment is good and it holds together.

A masterpiece that defies time and space...

One of, if not Bowie's best album, which not only makes it one of the best rock albums of all time, but also in contention for the best British album of all time. The only song i'm not that keen on is Star, but other than that I think pretty much every other track is a classic. 5 Stars.

Probably my favorite Bowie album (and maybe his best?) Great album from beginning to end. Highlights: "Five Years", "Ziggy Stardust" and "Rock 'n' Roll Suicide"

Unequivocally a masterpiece

An absolute favorite if mine.

It's difficult to understand the importance of Ziggy at the time when I was only three years of age back in 1973. But it still sounds like the future, more than fifty years later. The album starts in such an understated way with Five Years. It's a softener for what is to come. By the time Starman kicks in, then we're rocking. Despite the WHAM BAM force of nature, it's also a sorrowful record. Lady Stardust in particular always lowers the mood for me. Four songs that have the word star in the title - he was trying to tell us something. My brain hurts a lot. Oh how we miss him.

Like I've never heard this album in my lifetime. Kanye West is a time traveler . 😆

Klares Ding.

Strong 9!

I mean come on, it’s Ziggy Stardust

already listened before but i relistened for the sake of this review. still a perfect album every song hits not much more to say

My favourite Bowie album. A classic, so so so good.

Great album. Many great songs and cohesive arrangement

I heard it first time 3 years ago in Almeria, on my 3 month roadtrip to Lisbon.

If you've ever wanted to listen to an epic space opera about an awe inspiring alien rockstar that cures the world with their music, then you've come to the right place. Ziggy Stardust is the album of choice for introducing anyone to David Bowie. It encapsulates all of the things that make Bowie so unique and interesting. The music experiments with a variety of instruments to give it that sci-fi atmosphere but still rocks hard with powerful and timely riffs like in Moonage Daydream. The lyrics illustrate a world unseen in the far reaches of the galaxy while still keeping it grounded by capturing relatable experiences and feelings. Bowie's voice can be smooth and cool but it won't take long before he belts into his desperate and cracking bravado like in Five Years. The album is well paced and consistent. Its experimental without being unobtainable. It's good rock and roll. It's very good David Bowie.

Inarguably his best. All bangers, no chaff. Wham bam, thank you ma’am

"Five Years" je tok kul začetek albuma. Plus, ker dober komad no. Tin whistle solo? Amazing. Pa kitarski solo na konc? Uf.

It’s David Bowie! Great album

Love the album since the first year of uni. Listened again today but was ruined by Microsoft dynamics being shit

Great start to finish.

Iconic for a reason.

Masterpiece of the 70's

Classic album, know well, nothing to add 5 Star

Wierny sobie. Eksperymentalny ale też komercyjnie przyswajalny. Bez długich instrumentalnych utworów, które mnie gubią. Z ciekawym i spójnym konceptem. 9/10

One of the absolute GOATs, and such an important album for me as I was discovering music. Doubt theres another album with an equally iconic opener/closer as Five Years and Rock and Roll Suicide. Every single song is brilliant, and it is tied together by a fantastic concept and visual style. 10/10

Bowie has always been a bit on my periphery. I know the hits and have been aware of the reverence for this album for a long time, but this is the first time I've actually sat down & listened to it. As you may have already figured out, folks, I'm an idiot. This needed to be in my ears long ago. Better late than never, I s'pose, because holy tapdancin' moly what a record this is!

AAAGGGGHHHHHHH
