Reviews (page 3 of 15)
One of the Best. Even has a Ringo solo.
I don’t quite know how to categorize Abbey Road. Calling it a concept album feels too narrow, labeling it experimental doesn’t fully capture its warmth, and simply calling it a rock album undersells its ambition. On paper, it resists definition, but in practice, it unfolds with absolute clarity, a fully realized musical vision that never second-guesses itself. The first half offers what we’d traditionally call songs. “Come Together” opens with that iconic, slinking groove. “Something” is a quintessential first dance song in weddings. Then there’s “Here Comes the Sun,” radiant and uplifting. These songs feel almost fated, as though they’ve always existed and the band simply uncovered them. But it’s the second half where Abbey Road transcends even those heights. What begins with “You Never Give Me Your Money”—their most remarkable composition in their catalog in my opinion—quickly evolves into something far more fluid and daring. The song itself is strange yet accessible. From there, the album dissolves into a medley that feels less like a collection of tracks and more like a continuous, living piece of music. Songs blur into one another, challenging the very idea of where one ends and another begins. It’s playful, inventive, and deeply collaborative. There’s a sense that they’re no longer bound by expectations, only by their shared instinct for what sounds right. And then, almost as an afterthought, comes “Her Majesty”—a brief, inexplicable 30-second fragment that somehow feels essential. It’s quirky, abrupt, and perfect as a closing gesture. This is it, ladies and gentlemen, the best album on this list bar none. Everything else pales in comparison.
Have already listened to and know it will be a five, but I'll take any excuse to listen to this at all. It's probably their best work objectively, but my heart will always belong to Rubber Soul
Excelente, um clássico.
yeah pretty good 👿👿👿
Not my favourite Beatles album, but still a 5. The best two songs are probably the two George songs, Come Together and Oh! Darling also great. It could have done without Maxwell's Silver Hammer
The record is a 5, and side 2 is a brilliant collage that is so much more than the sum of its parts, Come Together is apex John, and Harrison's songs shine. But as so often on a Beatles record, there are the inevitable two or so songs that demand skipping: Maxwell and Octopus, I am talking to you. Otherwise, genius. Amazing hilarious beautiful weird aching genius.
Is it my favorite Beatles album? Probably not. Is it still worthy of 5 stars? Absolutely. It stuns today as it must have in 1969.
Oh! Darling alone is a 5
Golden slumbers ->carry that weight is the best ever
This albums quality and impact is undeniable. One of the few I’ve heard from this list so far that I genuinely think people should listen to before they die.
This just works from start to finish. 𝘈𝘣𝘣𝘦𝘺 𝘙𝘰𝘢𝘥 feels more focused than some of their earlier albums — less all over the place, more confident. Nothing feels forced. It’s just really well put together. 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 is an easy highlight. It’s simple, but it hits exactly the way it should. George Harrison really comes into his own here, and it stands comfortably next to anything else on the album. The B-side medley is what really pushes this into 5/5 territory. On paper it shouldn’t work — short pieces stitched together — but it flows surprisingly naturally. It keeps moving without feeling disjointed, and by the end it all comes together in a way that feels earned. The cover is as iconic as it gets. Just four people crossing a street, nothing elaborate or overdesigned, and somehow it became one of the most recognizable images ever. It fits the album perfectly — confident, understated, and instantly memorable. And that’s really the whole album. Nothing feels wasted, nothing drags. It’s not trying to prove anything — it just delivers.
Bro what can I say. It's the freaking Beatles. Not necessarily my favourite Beatles but still there's nothing I can say that hasn't already been said. Fav Track: Octopus's Garden
Heard it before, obviously. The album and the album cover itself are just so iconic. And so many great songs here (and some silly ones, looking at you Maxwell). Impossible to give this album anything below 4 so I'm giving it a 5 5/5
Well of course it’s a 5 star record. After listening to almost their whole discography, I’m not exactly sure anymore, that this one is the absolute best one. You can sense the tension between the beatles on this one. Many of the lyrics can be interpreted in a hidden meaning, everyone hates everyone meaning, but this is really an incredible album to finish a run that will never ever be replicated.
Abbey Road is one of the greatest albums to ever exist. It has so many great songs and is one of the most popular Beatles albums, if not, the most popular. It combines Rock with contemporary and art rock and it all blends nicely together into this insanely iconic and good album.
Masterpiece.
A masterpiece
Perhaps the greatest B-side in rock. My favorite B-side at least with some close runners-up of course. The medley's being the best thing of this record. I do adore Because and Sun King, just beautiful singing and harmonies. Oh, and the album includes two of Harrison's best songs, some of the best in rock history.
#1
My hot take: I like Maxwell’s Silver Hammer. What else could I possibly add that hasn’t already been discussed in great detail. Great album.
My second favourite Beatles album. the transitions between the songs are so satisfying and the songs overall are all incredible.
top three beatles album imo. a great one to go out on.
If aliens invaded tomorrow and we had to give them one album to understand The Beatles, this is that album. This is what 9 years of cohesive songwriting looks like and may very well be the crown jewel of one of histories most important bands
A real gem! The Beatles prove once again that they came make back to back to back bangers
The Beatles - “Abbey Road” FIVE STARS After hearing this record literally my entire life, the most recent listen brought two firsts as I used headphones and streamed it. Both may have helped bring out some new qualities on my 726th listen to “Abbey Road.” I have always felt it is the most produced Beatles’ record. It sounds like a different era of recording compared to their last two records, let alone “Meet the Beatles.” At times it drifts into overproduction as the songs become too manufactured and depersonalized. However, the headphones also brought out their greatness as studio musicians and craftsmen. The more obvious ones like Ringo’s drumming on “Come Together” and “The End,” as well as how he keeps “Here Comes the Sun” from becoming too wimpy. As usual in my more recent Beatles’ listening, Paul stands out with slinky electric piano on “Come Together” and numerous songs with his bass counterpoints. The latter almost became too busy as I honed in on it. Lastly, I always had to flip the record after the abrupt end to “I Want You.” I enjoyed how “Here Comes the Sun” quickly appeared, well, kind of like its title. Hard to give it anything, but the highest rating when an album starts with “Come Together” and “Something.” The medley section has so many moments that stand out. One last “yeah, yeah, yeah” in “Polythene Pam.” John harkens back to a bit of psychedelia with “Because” and “Sun King.” The amazing segue from “Pam” to “She Came in Through the Bathroom Window”, with similar seemlessness between the final four songs of the medley. Nearly every song on the album could be a children’s song. Lessons abound about behavior, carrying burden and positivity. Mr. Mustard, Pam, Maxwell and all of “Octopus Garden” could come from Roald Dahl or Maurice Sendak. The child-like aspect can be both endearing and annoying, helping to make “Abbey Road” only my 6th-7th favorite Beatles album. The first side drops quite a bit after the opening two songs. Paring down both “Oh, Darling” and “She’s So Heavy” would help. For all the doom/stoner rock forerunner of “Heavy” it usually leaves me like many of Led Zeppelin’s 7-10 minutes blues numbers: let’s get this over with boys. It is an album made by the greatest band in the world when they had honed all of their skills to the highest professional level. Those skills make it a near perfect masterpiece.
I've recently decide this was my favorite Beatles album. The medley alone makes it worthy of it. This listen around I found it a bit less cohesive. Of course, this is in part due to The Beatles going their separate ways, and it's not messy in the same way White Album is. It definitely has the best parts of themselves coming together (pun not intended) and working together, as seen in the medley. However, the first half can feel a little jumbled at times. "Come Together" used to be viewed less favorably by me, but I think I've come around to it recently. Its overplayed status still stands for me, but John's voice is at his strongest here, and his psych lyricism started with "I Am the Walrus" is now sharpened here. It makes coherent sense, but still includes lines like "toe-jam football" (a personal favorite). I realized I've never read through the lyrics of "Come Together" and I'm shocked at how different it makes my view. I never realized he said "Ono sideboard." "Something" was Sinatra's favorite love song and it's definitely up there for me, however it's definitely their BEST love song. "Maxwell" has the same quirkiness as "Ob-La-Di" and I love both, but I think it once again is a case of sharpening what had been on previous albums. "Oh! Darling" once again used to be a skip, now, might be in my top 3 from this album. Paul's voice at his strongest. "Octopus's Garden" is Ringo at his best. I never skip this. It always gets me in a good mood. I don't care, I love it. "I Want You" Is this the best Beatles song? It has aged better than any fine wine. Definitely best Beatles side closer. "Here Comes the Sun" Overplayed status tends to be my reason for disliking a Beatles song, but maybe that excuse doesn't apply when the overplayed-ness is the reason I love this song. It's a smiling sun. The Teletubbies Sun Baby. The song's quality is tripled by the fact it comes after a sharp cut-off from the dark and grimy "I Want You" "Because" I will forever picture Alice Cooper doing a spoken word of this in the Sgt. Pepper movie. One of the few good performances. The scene captures why this song is so good. It takes the sereneness of "Here Comes the Sun" and mashes it with the darkness of "I Want You." It's creepy, but also beautiful. "Across the Universe" done in a basement. "You Never Give Me" I love the opening and ending of this song. The middle can be mixed for me. I jam along to it, but it does lean slightly musical theater and doesn't live up to why the beginning of the song is sooooooo good. The jumbled nature of this album can be witnessed in this song. It's good, but sometimes it's Frankensteinish. "Sun King" I have always felt this song is underrated. Feels like sunbathing, but on the roof of a house, in a plastic lounge chair. The garbled Spanish/Italian is a cherry on top. "Mean" & "Pam" I love when Beatles do characters and I like to imagine a more elaborate story where all these characters are connected. Movie Sgt. Pepper kind of tries to do this and perhaps that acid dream is what this would look like. "She Came" ALWAYS GOOD. No comment. Just let the music play. The transitions are at its peak here. "Golden Slumbers" This is my favorite song on the album. I will prefer other songs at different times but I always have to let this one play up to the climax. Paul is at his best of doing what Paul does. Strong voice, strong lyrics, and taking nostalgic tunes from his childhood and transforming them. "Carry" & "The End" Just let the music flow. Very symbolic that "The End" was unknowingly (or sort of knowingly) the end. "Her Majesty" I heard someone complain recently that this album didn't end with "The End" but somebody replied back that they liked this as the ending because it goes back to how The Beatles started as just boys messing around and making music. It's a similar reason I've warmed to Let It Be (album) with songs like "Maggie Mae" and "One After 909" as being this tribute to Liverpool and boys being boys. Gonna go board my flight now.
If an album could be described as perfect it's this one. You couldn't ask for a better final album as this one was for them even though released before "Let It Be." Such a perfect blending of their talents as songwriters and players with George Martin offering immaculate production. Harrison really shines on this one with "Something" and "Here Comes the Sun," two of their finest songs. And McCartney offers some of his best songs ever with the superb mini-suite of songs on side 2. Oh, and then there's perhaps Lennon's best song in "Come Together." What else is there to say? It's Abbey Road.
One of the albums I've heard most in my life, but never gets old. Listened to the super deluxe mix, which really is a good remastering. Maybe the most complete band effort, at the height of their creative abilities, even if they all pretty much hated each other at that point. Not my favorite Beatles album but I understand arguments that it's the best. Also has the finest collection of their deeper cuts, Oh Darling! into Octopus's Garden into I want You is an elite run.
One of the best albums of all time
Deep lyrics, delicate instrumentation, and strong structure. Legendary in so many ways
DAMN
jesjj
It’s a classic for a reason and really holds up for me! Just like, really really solid songwriting, the most solid of all, except octopus’ garden of course but then who could refuse ringo his lil sing song??
I am starting to 'get' the Beatles. Much of their music is timeless, and I could see it on the radio today.
Come back homeward…
One of the greatest 5/5
Masterpiece
I've loved this for a long time. But this project helped me to see what's so special about it. The creativity genuinely does stand out from other records of the era I've heard, and listening closely helped me to appreciate how good the production is.
Hard to argue otherwise
Another excellent record from the Beatles, probably their finest. I can't say anything that has not been said already for this masterpiece.
Outstanding from start to finish.
One of the best!
Just a great album. The way she’s so heavy just ends is odd but I read online that the band thought it would be funny and then I read that it was also the last track of the A side of the album which makes more sense for the gag. Either way. A masterpiece.
I wasn’t gonna give this 5 cos i wanna reserve them but I just have to. It’s a masterpiece. way ahead of its time - so detailed, like every little note and sound has been thought through. Individual songs are great but the flow, one of the best flows in an album and this is 1969. We can talk all day about the abbey road medley, but what really stands for me is the placement of Here Comes The Sun, following the storm that is I Want You. This album is the blueprint for so many offshoots of rock all in one; prog, psychedelic, glam, indie, alternative, it’s timeless. If you think it’s edgy to dislike Beatles and this masterpiece then I feel sorry for you bro 9 / 10 Best track/s: You never give me your money, Oh darling, Here comes the sun, Abbey road medley
What needs to be said? Perfect album, one of the few on this list. 5/5
Back half is the one of the best runs of songs ever produced Favorite: octopus’s garden
This Maxwell guy sounds like pure evil.
What even needs to be said
I want you (she’s so heavy) es DELICIOSA.
Saved? ✅ Would listen again? ✅ Would recommend to anyone? ✅ Would buy on Vinyl? ✅
YESSSSSS
i already listened to this album for like a thousand times already with love
This album was amazing, every song on this record is so good and such an earworm
Masterpiece, as all Beatles albums are.
My favorite by them
This is the ultimate record. The best Bestles album and therefore the best pop album.
Abbey Road was the first Beatles album I purchased. I was in college in the early 2000s and worked at Toys R Us and heard Octopus's Garden was on the music there. I was so intrigued that it was by the Beatles, and it had Come Together on it, so I was sold. Maybe a hot take, but Abbey Road is by far the best Beatles album.
It's hard to listen to Come Together and not hear the DNB version...
There are not words that haven't already been said about this album for me to say.
I hear these 4 lads are going places!
What can I say about this? Not my favourite but a masterpiece 100%.
Packed full of classics. Easy 5*.
I mean common it's Abbey Road... what else can I say. I think this is one of the few perfect albums (yes, even Maxwells Silver Hammer and Octopus Garden). I really love the noisy section from I Want You (She's So Heavy), it may be my favorite moment in theor entire career. High 5!!!!!
Not the biggest Beatles fan but it's undeniable how consistently top notch the songwriting is on this album.
I recently watched the 1978 Sargeant Pepper movie starring The Bee Gees, and Peter Frampton, and it made me wonder if I even like these songs. But then when I gave this a listen for today, my fears were assuaged, I do still love Abbey Road, but this experience has made me realize how much of The Beatles' success is in performing and arranging their compositions. This is kind of the one for me, as of now, it's the only Beatles album I will give a 5, but I didn't grow up with these songs or anything, so I honestly think I kind of got into Abbey Road by first just sort of marveling at the incredibly high detail in it's execution. Then I slowly learned to love the songs. And it's really the only Beatles album where the entire Beatles thing works for me. The ambition and the most beautiful moments here like on Something and Here Comes The Sun but up against goofy stuff like Maxwell and Octopus' Garden. And it's easy to scoff at these songs a little, but that attention to detail is so deeply ingrained on Abbey Road that even these songs just work. I just think this is the perfect Beatles album, it has the complexity, the driving rock, and the pop potency of the band's best prior to this point without the bloated of The White Album, or thr occasional eye roll that I have on Sgt. Pepper. And then they wrap it up with the side two medley, which may be my favorite thing the band has ever made. It's such an ambitious distillation of the band's greatest tendencies executed as a singular, complete piece. I like remaining Beatles skeptical, but I have to admit that Abbey Road is the one where they just get me and it all works. I think it's the most perfect statement of their career.
Loved it 🤩
Вау
Yes, it’s great
fuckin great album. Definitely something that everyone should listen at least once. some of these songs will be with you trough the years and years
So good! Every song has its own personality and it great for listening
Faaa los bitel🙏🏼
Arguably the greatest album by arguably the greatest band of all time.
I like this one more every time I hear it
I'm writing this review even before listening to it today because it's not necessary. I think it's a contender for the title of best album of all time, and it's one of my two favorites. I don't even know where to begin to describe how much I love this album. From its opening track, "Come Together," through two of Harrison's best songs, "Something" and "Here Comes the Sun," and the incredible medley in the second half... simply amazing. I'm so glad I got this album to review. Of course, I'll listen to it today, just for the sheer pleasure of it. The easiest five stars.
I like it when good soundwaves enter my ears and this is good soundwaves
Abbey Road might be a bit overrated still compared to other Beatles albums (I want you/she's so heavy is good but way too fucking long tho) but it's quite good through and through and has some of the most masterful song transitions
Has anyone heard of these guys before? I think they could be pretty big
easiest 5 to give.
the most agreeable beatles
An album that really challenged my idea of music
Super album je suis mdr
mon class
What can I say about Abbey Road that hasn't already been said. The first time ever hearing the insane outro of I Want You (She's So Heavy) blew my mind. Absolute classic throughout.
Anyone who says the Beatles are overrated has clearly never listened to Abbey Road front-to-back. I think we have a collective sense of what the Beatles sounded like—some sort of Beatles-y pastiche plays in our heads (after all, has any other artist been covered/copied/imitated/parodied nearly as much?). But when you listen to Abbey Road, you go on a journey from one idea to the next to the next to the next in such a seamless, fun, catchy way that by the time you've come to The End, you can't help but marvel at what the Beatles created... only to be thrust out of your marveling to hear a cute little ditty about Queen Elizabeth, which ends just as abruptly. Look, I'm not saying Abbey Road is an underrated album. That would be ridiculous. It is rightfully considered (one of?) the greatest album(s) of all time by (one of?) the greatest band(s) of all time. What I am saying is that there is so much more to this record than I think the average person realizes, and anyone who walks away from it thinking the Beatles are a "mid" band is being contrarian.
Brother... its abby road. There is nothing much to say. Its one of the most iconic albums of all time. Its very justified. I like every single song. Most of them are all time classics. Im still more partial to the white album but im splitting hairs at this point. Both are peak. Its like comparing k2 to Everest. What's the big deal about a couple hundred meters?
I don't think I can say anything that hasn't already been said
this is the exact moment when the beatles officially invented music
One of the greatest albums ever made by, maybe, the greatest band of all time. My favorite Beatles album fluctuates all the time. It was the White Album for a long time. It was Abbey Road for a long time. Sometimes it's Rubber Soul. Every time I hear Revolver I love it more than the last time. The past few years have seen me going back to Let It Be more and more often. Anyway, "Octopus's Garden" is the first song I ever remember hearing in my entire life. This album is 5 stars here, but it would be 1,000 stars if that was an option. People giving this one a 4 star rating are wrong, but can be forgiven. Lower than that should be committed. Perfect album.
"they got annoyed because 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer' took three days to record. big deal." ditador mccartney eu estarei sempre com voce!!!!
I mean what can I say? Peak Beatles, undisputed.
Amo demasiado
Memorable album
Obviously i’ve listened to this before… wasn’t a beatles fan at 15 for nothing. One of the few albums I’ll consider as the “greatest of all time” shocking it’s over 50 years old.
Top tier album
Another of the major peaks - a top 10 of all time.
Excellent so many great classic Beatles songs
Sadly couldn’t listen on Spotify. Only copy was a very spotty you tube version
Truly an album everyone should listen to. Uses new technology and the variety is incredible. Also two awesome songs by George Harrison.
While I don't listen to this album (or the beatles in general) as mich as i used to, it's still a phenomenal album. I think this is the beatles' best work so the ranking must be updated accordingly 1. Abbey road 2. Revolver 3. White album
What else can be said it’s the perfect album. Is there a better opener than come together?
About as close to a perfect record as it gets
4.8 stars.
It's most likely a biased review because of the nostalgia involved (not to mention it's status as a legendary album from a legendary group), but Abbey Road informed who I am as a person and what my idea of music was and is. If this isn't deserving of a 5, nothing is.
Relisten Not going to turn any heads when I say this album is fantastic. I used to be the type of music listener who thought I was special for not singing their praises, but that mostly came from not giving them the time of day besides their big hits. They really shine in an album format, and this is the quintessential example of that. The disparate tones and sounds come together into a nice cohesive whole in the first half - you go from love ballads like Something to the darkly upbeat Maxwell's Silver Hammer, into perhaps their most soulful vocal performances in Oh! Darling, and then sure why not, a goofy song about living in the ocean, and then the hard loud I Want You. It somehow juggles those tones and genres really well, it has a nice flow. The second half is equally great Here Comes The Sun is overplayed but still a great, almost blindingly pleasant song. Then it ends with the Medley, combining a bunch of unfinished songs into a grand finish for the record. It flows beautifully from one track to another and features some of my favorite bits of songwriting and lyricism from the band, especially You Never Give Me Your Money, Sun King, You're Gonna Carry That Weight, and The End. Really hard to find a fault with this record for me, I think some of their more famous records are a bit overrated, but in this case I absolutely understand why it's so adored. Favorite Tracks: Oh! Darling, Octopus's Garden, Here Comes The Sun, the whole Medley Least favorite: None 5/5
now don't get me wrong a love a bit of contrarianism, as one surely might expect of me here, but no i'm pleased to say this was actually pretty great! totally holds up to the hype and makes me understand it more considering the state of their contemporaries. this whole album feels incredibly modern and clean with its production. start to finish, it's full of eclectic bangers even for something so heavily pop oriented. god the moog synthesizer across this too is soooo nice. i can't believe critics didn't like it at the time because they use it VERY well. whole thing sounds great. i think i'm also in an ideal place to appreciate this given that i'm taking time off at a friend's house full of very cool women, comfortably lounging in the guest bed, and enjoying the early morning sun. no better time to appreciate some music.
The beatles is often proclaimed as some kind of pinnacle of pop music. Their music is so highly rated that for it to NOT be overrated would require so much effort that it would almost be unbelie- okay that's enough pretending this album is not peak. Yeah this is basically as good as everyone says and knows it is. I used to not be huge into th3e beatles growing up, but I have always loved Come Together. The remarkable thing however is in the sheer consistency in quality here. What George Martin accomplishes here is incredible. The layered louder sections do so without losing any fidelity, the stripped back parts make every note and instrument feel like it has its place. You might expect that for a band at the zenith of pop they'd fall upon tropes or become so defined in the genre the music is mundane. Hell the beatles is often given as a prime example of a band that often sounds less special today due to how influential they were to music, but I can't disagree more. Abbey Road has such a suprising range. Maxwell's Silver Hammer does not sound like it came from the same album as Here comes the sun, which does not sound like it came from the album that gave us Come Together. Yet as an album listening experience, it just all works. Sorry, no hot takes here, this is great.
The GOAT
Masterpiece. Bloody masterpiece. It's bloody Abbey Road
10/10
I know plenty of these songs given the magnitude of the Beatles and to be fair they are bangers Oh! Darling which I hadn't heard before is my newly discovered highlight I cant fault it.
Posiblemente el mejor álbum de la historia.
Possibly The Beatles' magnum opus. I especially love The End Medley with all those tracks they "couldn't work out" into a single song. Given how Abbey Road finished recording after the Let It Be Sessions, I think that that medley is a wonderful send off to the band. Of course, the whole previous part of the album is also great. I don't think there's a single weak song in there. I just love it all.
Classic. All bangers no fluff.
Very good album. You can easily listen to it in the background and with friends and there will always be some bangers waiting, where everyone is singing along.
Arguably the best album from the greatest band of all time, so obviously a banger. Not sure what else there is to say. Stands up and slaps.
Classic Gold
4.8
I’ve listened to this album more times than I can count, and while it’s not my favorite Beatles album, it’s still brilliant and worth 5 stars. To experience it differently for this challenge, I decided to listen to it stoned for the first time. I think I felt this on a deeper level than I expected. The breakdown of the Lennon-McCartney partnership is palpable throughout the album, and even with that immense division and deviation, it’s still one of the most cohesive pieces of media I’ve ever heard. Speaking of the partnership, it can be used as analogy for so many different parts of life at every stage. It’s really stunning how much the music of the Beatles and story of the band encapsulate the human experience, with Abbey Road being the culmination of a life journey. The cover image, and while the funeral walking order is one of my favorite parts of the Paul Is Dead conspiracy, could also just be seen as the end of the human life cycle, or in this case, the life cycle of the band. Whether or not that was the intention, Abbey Road is the culmination of what it’s really like to live a life. Also I keep calling this The White Album.
Another one of the best albuns of all that. As i always said, everything that came after this is inspired by this.
I'm so sick of The Beatles but what are you going to do...this album is just amazing.
incredible rock band goes to the studio one more time, puts out a few of their best songs, ends on a great run of short songs with everybody taking a solo on the last track. 'and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make' while the band dissolved in burnout and petty squabbles. perfect. the stuff of mythology. music: appreciated. (⌐❂ ̮ ❂)
Average score on this one makes me want to work myself into a frenzy and fully become convinced that Abbey Road sucks and then hate it for the rest of my life but that’s just not practical is it
greatest album of all time
What is there to say that hasn't been said before? The best album of the best band ever. I was just watching "Get Back" too, nice coincidence...
My second favorite Beatles Record and a brilliant cap on an incredible musical partnership.
Oh hell yeah 😎 After getting bad album after bad album almost every day this month, I was starting to get really depressed about this project. But I fucking love this album, I really needed this today.
Outstanding contribution to road crossing safety.
Iconic cover, iconic songs, 2 classics by the best Beatle, and the suite of songs in second half
Damn this is a good album. This hits bang so hard, and the lower points on this album are still fun. I still maintain that there is no perfect Beatles album, but this is such a strong 4 that I am giving it a 5.
abbey road, the best album in music history. I will never get tired of listening to this.
Weirder than I remember.
Wonderful mix and breadth in the album.
I honestly don't know if I can write a review that would do this justice. It's a top album from one of the best and most influential bands ever. It's truly remarkable that they were able to put together something so incredible given the circumstances that the band was barely holding on by a string at that point in time. If you're unsure, just go check out the Wikipedia page for the album. One of the easiest 5/5 that I'll give on this.
Overall Rating - 4.65/5 (9.29/10). (17 Tracks) I struggle to figure out how to fairly rate this, because of Side 2. One of the all-time great albums. Gold from beginning to end. I am not ashamed to say that Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End brings me to tears. Here Comes the Sun is nearly perfect.
incredible, a generational classic for a reason.
Album 12 3/16/26 What to say about Abbey Road? It's currently the #2 rated album on the site. It's my first Beatles album on the list so I won't do all my Beatlemaniac gushing now, but you should know there's a decent chance on any given day I'll listen to at least 5 Beatles songs without even thinking too much about it. If I highlighted key tracks I would really just be describing the whole album, which is why it's a no doubt 5. I'll limit myself to just the five songs I'm allowing myself to add to my 1001-core playlist. First off, Something is a song I can never hear and not wistfully sing along to. George's best song? Probably. Incredible Billy Preston and George Martin contributions. Secondly, Oh! Darling might be my favorite Paul vocal performance ever. Just so powerful, famously made Lennon jealous. Lennon's track I'm highlighting is I Want You (She's so Heavy). John put out one last Beatles rocker and somehow invented doom metal in the process. Representing the second side, I chose to round out my 5 picks with She Came in Through the Bathroom Window and The End as my faves from the medley. The former because it's so a fun transition that always makes me smile, and the latter for the closing out the album so well with each Beatle getting their moment. Doing honorable mentions anyways: Come Together and Here Comes the Sun are probably also both perfect tunes but have been praised enough already. You Never Give Me Your Money is not discussed enough as a perfect little suite-within-a-suite. Octopus's Garden has such incredible guitars and is obviously Ringo's best composition before 1974. The wealth of outstanding compositions makes me inclined to give out the easiest 5 ever, and to believe there is only one other album on this list I know about that can beat it. We'll talk about that when Revolver is generated. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I want to find the Beatles overrated. Because they were so big and popular and when I was younger, I generally equated that with people that I didn't care for or about. But goddamn this album is good. I've really expanded what I've listened to since I was a teenager, and I've listened to a good amount of The Beatles and this is obviously some of their best. In my mind, the grouping of golden slumbers/ carry that weight/ the end is the best Beatles run.
Ein wundervolles Album! Der octopus <3
It's so great--an obvious five stars and one of the best albums of all time. The medley is fantastic and even though "Come Together" doesn't really do it for me, it would be another band's masterpiece song. So let's dwell on the Beatles album rankings, all of which should be on the 1001. 1. 'The Beatles' (white album): Got it all and then some. 2. 'Sgt. Pepper's:' Psychedelic masterpiece of whimsy. 3. 'Abbey Road:' Oustanding blend of big rock that flows together so well. 4. 'Revolver:' The transition album in between the teen icons and hippie spirit. 5. 'Rubber Soul:' Diversity of sound and pathos. 6. 'Beatles for Sale:' The underrated covers album. 7. 'Help!:' The Liverpool lads just got better and better this period in songwriting and making it lusher. 8. 'A Hard Day's Night:' Fantastic groove in the non-singles. 9. 'Let it Be:' Like U2's 'Joshua Tree,' this album has some incredible huge singles but then also some lesser stuff. 10. 'With the Beatles:' This sophomore album shows some improvement from the year's earlier ... 11. 'Please Please Me:' The best songs here weren't singles ("I Saw Her Standing There" and "Twist and Shout"). NOTE: If 'Magical Mystery Tour' counts, it shoots all the way up to second but it's really an extended play/compilation, as is 'Yellow Submarine,' which would be last.
Five. Fiiivvveeeee. To me, this is probably one of the top 5 or 10 best albums of all time. Might be Rushmore. Might be #1. But it's a five, hands down. No skips, and the medley on Side 2 is immaculate. Even the corny shit (Bang Bang and Octopus) is still wonderful. These mfs rocked em.
Siempre Beatles
I guess I’ll start playing which Beatles album is the best Beatles album, because every one of them from Help on is 5 stars. This one is near the top but not quite the top. Maybe in 2nd place. Will be thinking harder, but I just think the medley is one of the most interesting things—if not my favorite Beatles songs. Also, THE ORGAN on this is incredible. Was Billy Preston a Beatle?
Great. A masterpiece. One of the best album by the best band. All songs are great except Maxwell's Silver Hammer and Octopus' Garden. I particularly love I Want You and the medley.
The official end of the era known as the 60s. Iconic in artwork, production, use of Moog synthesiser, a multi part segueing song suite and a pop song based on a backwards Beethoven sonata! Paul had excelled himself on the Get Back / Let it Be shelved sessions with three classics but he and John were now giving way to George as the strongest emerging songwriting talent. Something is one of their greatest songs and Here comes the sun us now their most streamed song with the kids now. He was soon to be the biggest selling solo Beatle in the immediate aftermath of the break up. Abbey Road was not reviewed that well at the time and is now firmly among the highest regarded of their albums, deservedly.
Hey, it's the best one
Ahhhhhhhh
Every song hits
9/10
I mean, come on.
I need to go back and redo some of my earlier ratings. Cos I have some 5 stars in there but this stands above. Can I give it 6?? I am a beatles fanatic and will give most of their albums 5 for sure, but even for their catalogue, this one captures them at an amazing moment. Georges contributions are unbelievable, Johns are unbelievable, they're all unbelievable! Truly an all time top 5 album in the history of music
beatles halt
konstant geiler vibe, texte nice, einfach richtig gut
My second favorite Beatles album. Easily a 5/5. No skips. Highlights are all of side 2. I love the sequencing leading up to the end. This album shows what the Beatles are all about.
Love!! I own this whole album. It’s one of my favorite Beatles albums. I particularly love Something and Because. I also love the end of the album when all of the songs blend together.
whilst it has its imperfections, there’s no denying the quality of songs on it. Kicking off with all-timer Beatles’ song _Come Together_, it features two of George’s best songs, a fantastic vocal performance by McCartney on the doo wop style _ Oh! Darling_ and Lennon’s incredible, dense, _I Want You (She’s So Heavy)_. And even though I’m not sure the medley quite comes off, the songs within it are all high quality and perhaps deserved more themselves, particularly the stirring _Golden Slumbers_ into _Carry That Weight_.
Masterpiece.

Ok... Le top 2 de la liste... The famous one : "Abbey Road". Album excellent, 5
Finally, a Beatles album. And not just any Beatles album, but arguably their very best and one of my favorite albums of all time. The band was falling apart, and yet they still managed to create an absolute masterpiece that feels cohesive even though creatively they were at odds. I could rhapsodize about this album for hours and still leave things unsaid. It’s timeless. I love it so much.
I want to preface by saying, I am in the minority of people that don't really vibe to the Beatles. I never thought they were bad. I just didn't much care for their music, but my dad always listened to them while I was growing up so this still carries a nostalgia for me. All of this to say, I absolutely think this album deserves every bit of hype around it. This is the best of the best, not just in the Beatles discography, but also in terms of rock albums in general. Every song got better than the next with not a single lackluster track in sight. There's a lot of variety here that I appreciate, showcasing each band member's writing and performance style. It really is just phenomenal. I'm not sure there's more to say than that. I'm not a big Beatles gal, and I still absolutely adore this.
Great experience. First time listening to something else from The Beatles than just the most popular songs.
An absolute classic from the Beatles. I don't think there's a single even mediocre song on the album.
Album 128. Abbey Road — The Beatles (1969) Is it really happening? Is it Christmas today? Because it feels like a Christmas gift. One of the best pieces of music ever created. 5/5 Liked: — Come Together — Something — Octopus’s Garden — I Want You (She’s So Heavy) — Here Comes The Sun — Because — Carry That Weight
(91/100)
I think this is one of those albums that is a no brainer for most iconic albums. it checks all boxes. Iconic, instantly recognizable and have some timeless classic. Is the Album a album that is perfect, in my case no. The hits are unforgettable and the impact of the album is huge from a cultural perspective but most song I forgot instantly except those I heard. The writing is still in a class of their own and don't really disappoints on quality. So is this a must hear, Yes! even I this is not one of my favourite album it really is something you should give a listen because it's such a recognised album.
I mean, come on! 5/5
Some of the most sublime music ever recorded. Even if there are some annoying Beatles affectations throughout this, the high points are about as high as anything out there. Octopus's Garden is my favorite Beatles song, which means you can ignore all of my opinions about music!
Hello me from High School, this is me from the future. How did you become so obsessed with The Beatles? Genuinely, what was the spark that lit the fuse. This has nothing to do with the quality of this album, but rather what this album invokes in me. This album is great, although in retrospect I do find elements of the Side B suite to be under worked. It's goofy and fun and I love that, but some times Mean Mr. Mustard and Pam just seem like they had to record what they had to meet a deadline. That being said a song like Maxwell's Silver Hammer is perfect, thank you Paul for writing one of the most Paul songs you could. Also shout out to George, he knocks it out, just this man was doing his whole this while everyone was pissin themselves. I could ramble on very long about this album, I think there's a lot to enjoy and discuss and I although part of me wants to rate this album lower due to me not being in a part of my life where I have the urge to re-listen and re-listen to this, nevertheless, this goes out to me from high school, singing Oh Darling at the top of my lungs.
Awesome. One of my top 5 of all time.
Super Dope
I remember listening to this album for the first time and being shocked that it actually was as good as they say. The thing that strikes me most about this album is the incredible variety in moods and emotions, it’s a real eclectic mix of songs. From the cool groove of “Come Together” (what a drum part), to the sombre “Something”, the darkly moody “I Want You” and the joyous “Octopus’ Garden”. And they’re all amazing, even the much maligned “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” I think is charming in its own cute kitsch way. Same with “Octopus’ Garden” which has always been a guilty pleasure of mine. The only misstep in this regard for me is the very jarring transition from “I Want You” to “Here Comes the Sun”. There’s just too much to really even talk about so I’ll just mention some highlights: The rhythm section in “Come Together”; the guitar solo in “Something”; all of “She’s So Heavy”; the haunting harmonies of “Because”; the bass part in the middle of “She Comes in Through the Bathroom Window” and McCartneys incredible vocals on “Golden Slumbers”. All in all, bloody brilliant.
Fantastic album just like all the other Beatles albums. Favourite song, here comes the sun.
I am not worthy to review this record, but today, that is my task. I am not a Beatles fanatic, but I was excited to see this cover pop up. In listening through, I was struck more than I'd expected – because of the amount of 60's music I've listened to since starting the project. Songs I already thought were amazing, stand out more than ever, as incredible achievements for their time. I felt like reading more – Wikipedia article is interesting but sad – life is short and the project's clock is ticking. Come Together: stupendous. (Evokes Lennon's later solo work.) Something: incredible. Yearning, reaching, not quite getting there? Maxwell's Silver Hammer: troublesome, I don't like 3:27 of disjunct between oom-pah nonchalance and story of violence. (Lyrics/music don't develop after the reveal in first chorus.) Oh! Darling: in isolation, seemed inconsequential, but in context, it works. Octopus's Garden: I always thought was light relief, but felt great in context. I Want You (She's So Heavy): stupendous. Audacious but it gets there. (Me in 1969: “what is that behind the band, how did they make that noise?”) Here Comes The Sun: okay. Because: in isolation, seemed like cod psychedelia, but in context it's bold and authentic. “The Long One”. You Never Give Me Your Money: this band could definitely play. Sun King: never heard it before, but style is familiar, must have been influential. (Tame Impala??) Mean Mr Mustard: somewhat know the music, no idea what it's about, wowed by fudgey bass line, time signature trick, suddenly it's over? Polythene Pam: didn't realise how creative this mix. (Queen?!) She Came In Through The Bathroom Window: well put together, lyrics intriguing. Golden Slumbers: gutsy singing, great orchestration. Carry That Weight: I always thought was part of one song with Golden Slumbers, maybe it's inseparable. The End: drum solo? Rhythm guitar that rocks out. Lead solo(s) – which I didn't realise were traded – Hendrix had already arrived in London, so work cut out for guitarists – recorded live in one take?!? Famous closing phrase – sounds like Yes? Her Majesty: what? They can spin out joke ditties, cutting off in the middle of a bar is striking, but I don't get it as a closer. (I understand it got pulled out from the medley, I don't get why.) Overall: a lot to think about. Clearly incredibly influential. Worthy of many a listen. Not perfect, but 10/10.
This is a certified hood classic.
There’s a reason this is widely considered one of the best albums of all time. Even if you put aside how massively influential it is, the music is just straight up really good. It’s simultaneously very polished and thrilling and gorgeous. Literally how do I pick which parts of this album I liked? It’s all good. I lowkey just picked a few songs I liked as my favorites bc I love them all. Fav songs: something, maxwell’s silver hammer, sun king
Obviously a really great album!! It’s probably been reviewed to death but my favorite parts are the really nice vocal harmonies on Because and Octopus's Garden, Paul’s really tasteful bass playing throughout (but especially on Something and You Never Give Me Your Money), and George’s experimentation with his Moog. Overall, John’s contributions to Abbey Road are probably my least favorite, but they’re still amazing songs. The production really does an incredible job tying together so many disconnected ideas into a cohesive, flowing album. I especially like the jam on side two for this. It’s the best version of what it is. Favorite Songs: Something, Here Comes the Sun, Because, Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight
Easiest five ever.
Fabuloso!
All-time great. Medley at the end is one of the best ever.
Goated
This is an easy one. On the Mount Rushmore of greatest rock albums, there would be four gents walking across the stone.
SOO COOL 🪲
Definitely a popular album for a reason
A masterpiece. I didn't realise I liked this album so much
Iconic album for a reason.
9/10
One of the best albums of all time. Some of the most iconic songs ever written, with a lot of wildly creative gems in between. Rewarding and wholly entertaining listen with no weak spots or filler tracks
The Beatles forever ❤️
Abbey Road is a classic — not much else really needs to be said. Even a track like Octopus's Garden, which was never one of my favourites, has properly grown on me over time. It’s just an album full of great songs and great harmonies. Everything sounds polished but still effortless. You can hear how tight the band are, and the production — with George Martin behind it. It’s hard to pick a favourite track, but maybe Maxwell's Silver Hammer. It gets overlooked a bit, but when you stack it up against some of their bigger hits, it definitely deserves more credit. Even knowing there were tensions around that time, the album sounds completely unified. And of course, the cover — the band walking across the zebra crossing outside Abbey Road Studios in London — is still one of the most iconic images in music. With all or this and the influence this album continues to have today, it can’t really be anything less then a 5/5
5/5
All time classic. I’ve never listened to it all the way through and can see how inspirational this album has been on so much that came afterwards. Saved 9 songs. Will definitely be re-listening
It's the most iconic album cover of all time for a reason. The Beatles at their most Beatle-ish. 10/10, 5/5, 100/100 it is probably THE album to hear before you die (at least for Western popular music). Everybody rocks and there are some real jams on here.
A true classic!
Just a week ago i did the cheeky tourist pic on the crosswalk! Wonderful album!
Paul McCartney forgot to wear his shoes. Unprepared and unprofessional. Bad album.
I understand it now. I think I’ve always been irrationally afraid of sitting down and listening to a Beatles album in full in case I ruin music because everything else doesn’t live up to it. But I think it makes me appreciate music even more. My only problem (albeit small) was some of the songs on the back end of the record were too short :( must cop on vinyl - no re-releases obviously, it deserves to be purchased.
I don’t know what it is about The Beatles, but I find it so hard to listen to an album straight through. My working theory is that their songs are so varied and complex that they’re overstimulating and I need a break. (This at least being true of their later stuff, not the simplistic early stuff.) Me: I don’t like some of these tracks. Also me: playing “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” back in my head the next day. And so, I started listening to this as a contrarian wanting to give it a 3; realizing “ok, this may not be overhyped” and deserves at least a 4; and recognizing by the end that this really is as good as people make it out to be. Each track is a journey in and of itself, but especially in the second half it feels perfectly assembled. Maybe I finally understand The Beatles. The becomes my 14th 5/5 through 150 albums.
Listened hundreds of times
classic album, goeie goeie bangers.
UM classico
Classic album, lots of beloved tracks. Not my personal favorite of the Beatles catalogue, but it's hard to deny how good it is from a song-writing and production standpoint, and "not my favorite" when it comes to the Beatles usually still means a 5 star album.
Absolute perfection.
loving it since early childhood memories
John Lennon is doing the most interesting songs here but they don't always click for me, and then George and Paul are writing great songs, but not as interesting as earlier stuff. Still they are great songs, especially the medley is an awesome way to out. I love the Beatles, I can't give 4.5, so 5
Perfection
What is there to possibly even say about Abbey Road that hasn't been said? Absolute juggernaut album. Every individual song is an instant classic, and ending out with a medley of sketched out ideas that stay interesting all the way through was a genius move. You could listen to this 100 times and still be engrossed in it the whole way through.
We Boomers born in the mid 60's are just a bit too young to have bought and listened to Beatles albums at the time of release and just a bit too old to have been brainwashed by their "legend" aura. During my teen/twenties years of being heavily influenced by music they were always a has-been band with some good songs. My only exposure to them was the endless radio play and wedding djs. So it's been nice to listen to Beatles albums as they were intended, and to place the 'famous' tracks into their original setting. Of the tracks I've never heard before... - I Want You : What? An 8 minute prog epic? By The Beatles? Wow. Superb. - Because: A nice gentle ballad. Hated the synth bit though. - The "Medley". I had no idea that this existed. I did know Golden Slumbers and Carry That Weight, but the whole medley end to end is wonderful. - Oh Darling: Oh. Sadly it's just formulaic blues shite. It really could be anyone. Absolutely nothing special and a real disappointment. But the only one on the album. Of the tracks I knew (i.e. the rest) - just Beatles classics. I suppose I'll never know what I would think of them if I heard them for the first time because they are just ingrained. Which is probably why they are legends. Conclusion: Not perfect. Oh Darling sucks. Because could be better. Its a 4½, but because it's the Beatles...
BANGER BANGER BANGER
Back to back Beatles, sj ne morš verjet! Ok, "Come Together" je kr lep začetek albuma. In spet hudomušno zveneč komad z najbl sinister besedilom ("Maxwell's Silver Hammer"). "Oh! Darling" mi je en ljubših komadov na sploh. (Ta album sm tokrat poslušala, da na pamet vem, kako si sledijo komadi.) Na splošno, k McCartney poje tko, da se dere - I fuckin love it. Tud pol na albumu Ram. Delivera the emotion. Čeprav, ok, zj on a relisten, ni tok bad "Octopus's Garden". Razen, da mu sledi the best fucking song on the album?! "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" je lyrically minimalističen, a v vsem drugem izjemen. Ufff. Bahaha. Ampak ja, what a song. Naslednja polovica albuma je pa men neki najbl masterfully made, da my words won't make it justice. "Here Comes the Sun" tok dobr sledi temu abruptnemu koncu. Drgač pa fak, kako si sledijo komadi, celoten medley je tok hud - ampak men najljubše sosledje ever je pa: "Golden Slumbers", "Carry That Weight" in "The End". Spet, tokrat poslušano, da noro. (O moj bog, pozabla sm, kok je "Sun King" dober!) "Her Majesty" je pa sam nek hilarious cherry on top. Fak, takoj grem še enkrat poslušat.
The most shocking thing is that this album is even better than its hyped up to be. Every Beatle was firing on all cylinders here, despite the unbridled tensions between the group. John gives us a classic in Come Together and a heavy, proggish masterpiece in I Want You, Paul puts together the incredible medley that makes up almost the entire second half of the album AND Maxwell's Silver Hammer which is a banger FUCK the haters, George proves himself as a songwriter on par with both Paul and John with Something and Here Comes The Sun, inarguably two of the greatest Beatles songs ever released, and even fucking Ringo provides an original with Octopus' Garden, and it's fantastic! It's not the most complex piece but it is consistently one of my favourite moments on the record. Plus he has a drum solo on The End, which is completely unheard of and I love it. Marry it all with the incredible production work of George Martin and you have this masterpiece of an album, which is even greater than the sum of its parts. Bonus points for the album cover, arguably the most iconic piece of album art bar maybe Dark Side of The Moon Fav Track: 6: I Want You (She's So Heavy) Best Three Track Run: 14, 15, 16
I would like to listen to this album in an octopus’ garden in the shade. Also Sun King is cool. Also I love the part where the horns come in on Carry That Weight. I wish Her Majesty was longer.
maybe my fav beatles album <3
Say what you want about The Beatles, but it’s undeniable that Abbey Road is an absolute industry-changing musical masterpiece. I had never listened to the whole album before and had I known the journey each song takes you on I would have. The different sounds and usage of all sorts of elements is an absolute treat to hear in this day and age where it seems like artists are trying to be as “safe” as possible with music. I love the ballsiness of the songs on this album. I love how there’s super playful goofy songs, and super heart tugging melancholic songs. The lyrics are so actually funny in certain songs which I really appreciate and find rare in music. The first time I heard music by The Beatles and some songs from this album was from the movie Across The Universe (a drama/romance/musical) which is one of my all time favorite films. I was about 6 years old and somehow it felt like I understood what love was just from the sound of the music. For a 6 year old to feel that is a testament to how authentic and soulful their music is. I recommend this film to anyone who likes The Beatles’ music. The covers are extremely well done. Anyways I don’t have shortage of good things to say about this album but I’ll stop there. 5 stars.
Holds up. So familiar but all the songs are good.
1. Come Together-Lives up to its reputation, peak bass line, drums and guitar. Lyrics are in their most psychedelic glory. I do really mean it when I say Lennon>Mccartney 8.7/10 2. Something-This is where George cemented his status as the best songwriter in the Beatles(even if John and Paul didnt recognise this) beautiful song with some heavenly guitar and vocals 9.2/10 3. Maxwell’s Silver Hammer-Paul what the fuck is this, no, just no. 5/10 4. Oh Darling-This is how Paul redeemed himself for the travesty that was Maxwell. I think John could have sung it better but Paul did an excellent job. Definitely one of the better songs not just on this album but on The Beatles entire discography. 8.5/10 5. Octopus Garden-Ringo being Ringo, i love it. Sometimes it’s needed to take a little break and sing an upbeat song about octopuses. But I would add that it may be silly, but still unironically a banger 9/10 6. I want you(she’s so heavy)-Enthralling, I just couldn’t stop listening. One of the longest Beatles songs(behind Hey Jude and Revolution 9) and unlike those other two it earns every second 8.3/10 7. Here Comes The Sun-Harrison is the goat, this song is The Beatles 9.5/10 8. Because-Heavenly, transcendent, what more can I say. Whenever I listen to this is feels like I'm being elevated to a higher sense of consciousness 8.5/10 9. You never give me your money- Kicks off the Long One and starts it with a bang. The guitar solo is amazing 8.6/10 10. Sun King-Very similar to Because but just does everything very slightly worse. Still good tho 8.2/10 11. Mean Mr Mustard-Fine, but seems out of place in this album 7.7/10 12. Polythene Pam- Same as Mean Mr Mustard 7.7/10 13. She came in through the Bathroom Window-Solid track, by no means a standout but it’s good. I never listen to it when I’m not listening to the album as a whole 8.0/10 14. Golden Slumbers-One of the best on the album, absolutely heavenly, ascending. I can’t put it into words 9.2/10 15. Carry That Weight-Amazing transition from Golden Slumbers into this. And good harmonies from the Beatles(but if there is one thing they can do it’s harmonise). 8.4/10 16. The End-Perfect end to the Beatles discography. Basically a whole band jam session and it’s really fun. 8.9/10 17. Her Majesty-This song is fine but it takes away from the ending in The End and is just too short. Should have been kept off the album and just released in the deluxe version in the anthology or something. 7.9/10
It’s weird I just got my first Beatles album here. Anyway yeah sure you have to hear Abbey Road before you die. Not even sure how to review this, I mean everybody knows about this album. There’s a debate to whether this is considered the last Beatles album, but it’s definitely the last great Beatles album. This album really shows the Fab Four in their creative peak. You have studio magic, you have timeless songwriting (the George songs!), you have originality and experimentation, and across it all you just have a bunch of really good songs. I mean this album is so strong that great songs like Golden Slumbers or You Never Give Me Your Money are not even highlights. Yeah we have the fights about Maxwell’s Silver Hammer or the medley but they’re all amazing come on. One of the best pieces of music ever recorded, five stars. To be fair, I like mid career Beatles better, but this is also perfect. Favorite song: Because.
Mi piace troppo e poi il medley che inizia con you never give me your money è perfetto
Oh, I was not expecting to get this album so soon. I was hoping to get it towards the end of my journey through the albums in the books, but beggars can't be choosers. Anyways... Abbey Road is an album that I'm probably gonna struggle to contextualize in my own way. What new insight could I possibly give to an album that, as of the time of writing this review, is sitting in the top three albums over on the Global Stats page, sandwiched between Rumours and Dark Side of the Moon? I expressed similar difficulties when reviewing Dark Side before. As for Rumours, I acknowledged that the record could be considered overrated while still addressing why I enjoyed it. Both those sentiments are true with Abbey Road as well, with how prolific the songs, George Martin's production, the album artwork, and every other tidbit surrounding it have maintained this enduring legacy. Hell, Billy Preston got a lot of notoriety for his Hammond organ playing on "Something" and "I Want You (She's So Heavy)". There's not much about this record that hasn't been covered extensively over five-and-a-half decades at this point, so I'm going to simply state that yes, this album is worth all the hype. I know an album is good when I find myself singing along and air jamming to every single track, from the opening notes of "Come Together" to even the goofy little coda of "Her Majesty". It's genuinely amazing how the band tiptoed the line between serious and silly lyrical tones on this record. One second, I'm deep into the crescendoing white noise of "I Want You (She's So Heavy)", the next I'm welcomed into the warm, jovial folk-pop of "Here Comes the Sun". No better is this tide of shifting moods and compositions more apparent than the 16-minute medley from "You Never Give Me Your Money" to "The End", near-cinematic in execution. All along the way, every note and vocal line was played and captured with such pristine quality, full of memorable hooks and solos that still feel fun to listen to all these years later. I could go on, but the point is clear that I enjoyed Abbey Road all the way through. Even if this isn't the last album because Let It Be exists, it does feel like one of the last times that the Beatles overcame their own personal conflicts with each other to make something truly magical.
Very classic. My dad listened to this all the time when I was a kid. As an adult I was never a Beatles guy, but actually it's kind of cool, especially when taken as a whole album. It goes to a lot of strange and fascinating places. It was certainly groundbreaking for its day. The playing and vocals are all very solid, if not virtuosic. My favorite song is I Want You (She's So Heavy). Awesome riffs and grooves, spirals out in the end, until abrupt nothingness. super cool. Everyone wants to sing along with Here Comes the Sun. Come Together has a great grove and is a brilliant want to start the album. Quite a few other well-known Beatles songs here.
Fantastiskt album.
Obviously a amazing albums I love Paul's vocals on this album especially on Oh! Darling and golden slumbers Best-Golden slumbers I loves the anthology of Pam and her polythene and how it was sung very scousley caught me off guard Golden slumber to carry that weight was actually the perfect transition omg 5/5
One of my all time favorites!
Obviously one of my faves
College friend Zach loved the Beatles and I credit him for getting me into them. The first time I listened to abbey road (on vinyl) start to finish was in Zach's dorm room, a little bit high, with a good set of headphones. Uww circa 1993. It was a five star then and a five star now. Thanks friend!
Maybe not quite the consistent brilliance of their earlier stuff but still fab. And I so nearly gave it a 4 but then I came to the medley, culminating in The End, and obviously I couldn't do it. Goosebumps.
Imagine getting to the grand old age of 32 without ever listening to the most famous album of all time. And then turns out it's a 5 out of 5.
Not gonna bother writing about how good this album is
Whereas the White album felt like four artists running away from each other in wildly creative but disjointed directions, this album, while still being wildly eclectic, feels entirely cohesive and deliberate. Each of the Beatles, individuality, is on full display, but this time they feel fully supported by the others (and George Martin). This is the Beatles making the absolute most of their final time together. And, it doesn't hurt that it's the album in which George Harrison fully arrives as a song writing equal to Paul and John. His two tracks are just as good as anything the Beatles ever did. Can we talk about Paul's bass on Something? It's insane. It's like he's trying to take over the song, like he doesn't trust that George's subtle medley is enough, so he squeezes all the melody possible out of that bass. Whatever his reason, the resulting contrast between the vocal and bass melodies creates one of the most amazing duets in history. Counter to counter melodies, how about the harmonies in Becuase? The completely opposite. This Boy, Yes is Is and Becuase are the Beatles at their Beach Boys finest. Even Ringo's contribution on this album is solid (though the Get Back documentary makes it clear that Harrison had a big hand in making that song work). Maxwell's Silver Hammer gets shit on for being hokey, and that's certainly true, but its juxtaposition of being cute mixed with the fact that it's about a serial killer certainly sticks with you. It's demented and visual and bizarre story telling. Oh, Darling and She's So Heavy are both songs that could have been throw away repetitive jams, but they both develop and build so incredibly well, that you don't want them to end. They find so many different levels within the same phrases. Especially She's So Heavy. You keep thinking that it couldn't possible have anything else to show you, then it just keeps surprising you. Then of course there is the medley. It's clearly just a bunch of little songs that John and Paul didn't get around to finishing, strung together in a medley of leftovers. You rarely hear people point to any of the individual songs in the medley as their favorite Beatles song (argument for Golden Slumbers) but collectively is a musical feast and t's a perfect metaphor for the Beatles themselves. Better together.
Imagine, if you will, a world where ‘Maxwell’s Silver Hammer’ doesn’t exist and Abbey Road is a completely flawless album. Actually, I’d also bring ‘Here Comes The Sun’ over to the end of Side A and have ‘Because’ kick off Side B. Then it would be flawless. Love this record, love the creative risk-taking, love hearing how the Beatles utilize the studio technology that arrived in between the White Album and this one. And I guess I can forgive Paul for ‘Maxwell’s’ since he’s also largely responsible for the brilliant Side B medley. Favorite song: ‘The End’, specifically the guitar solo trade offs and John proving that technical proficiency isn’t everything.
Ok - so I know this one inside out. It’s the best Beatles album for me. Everything is spot on, the singing, musicianship, recording and production are perfect and basically set the blueprint for years to come. And an iconic cover just finishes the package off perfectly. And with the exception of Maxwell’s Silver Hammer it’s a joy from start to finish. Side 2 with the medley of songs is still jaw dropping when you consider there is just 6 years separating this and the simplicity of some songs on Please Please Me. If ever there was an album to make the case for the Beatles this is it. Lennon, McCartney and Harrison provide some of the best songs of all time for this album. And they did it as they were falling apart. It’s the ultimate final bow. Easiest 5 on the list and a great excuse to listen to it again.
Second best Beatles album imo, great from start to finish. Love how the chaotic dynamic of their relationship led to many songs that otherwise won't have been released and all are memorable, quotable and almost all hits.
What an album.
Hot take: this one is pretty good.
All timer
Is this a question
ameeei
Well duh.
No major critiques here. It’s a solid listen with its place. I’m not going to be whipping out Maxwell’s Silver Hammer at a dance party but doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy it.
Absolute classic, incredible music.
Brilliant

What can I say, it’s the Beatles.
That ending…wow! I can see why this is a classic. Before this, the only song I’ve heard from this album is here comes the sun, but wow the rest of that album bringing in certain leitmotifs from the previous songs and the instrumental and vocals?! 🤯
I mean, what else can I even add to the discussion around this album. It is one of the greatest of all time. If anyone suggests Ringo is a shitty drummer, this album easily disproves that, so you can just safely ignore them as they obviously haven't heard this. This album has one of the most overloaded with quality first sides ever, every song was amazing and a hit. Then the second side is also overloaded with quality. George Harrison only has 2 writing credits here but they are both considered the best Beatles song. Period. Paul goes all out both on bass and with his voice. I just can't say enough good things about this album. Sounds amazing production wise, each song is 10/10, and the cover art is legendary. Still, I think Rubber Soul is their best
One of the best albums ever made that has lived on as a constant traffic hazard on a normal city street.
Fav: she came in through a bathroom window Honorable mention: something/ carry that weight 5/5
Has all the classics (I’ll give you a pass Maxwell), the beautiful medley, and the heavy blues. A bonafide, melodic classic!
Best Beatles album and one of the best albums out there.
I've already heard this album; it was impossible not to have heard it, or at least some of the songs that are on it, in my life.
Great album.Medley is majestic
Duh
Just perfect! No much else to be said. It's a masterpiece and the perfect conclusion to The Beatles. Top Songs: Something, I Want You (She's So Heavy), Because, Golden Slumbers, Carry That Weight
Maybe a hot take, but I actually think this album is pretty good.
Across the universe taught me all these songs
The sound is gorgeous, which I guess we can thank George Martin for. I don't love the Beatles as much as some, but yeah, this is a 5.
Even better than I remember, actual masterpiece
peak beatles. perfection.
It's not my favorite Beatles record but still a Masterpiece
Does it get better than this? Maybe but probably not...
Writing, music, vocals - song after song, brilliant.
20/10 no notes
And in the end, Paul is dead.
One of the best albums ever and my personal favorite of the Beatles. The whole second side is brilliant and the first side contains some of the best pop songs ever. Truly a masterpiece. Favorites: Something, Octopus's Garden, I Want You (She's So Heavy), Here Comes the Sun, the whole damn suite at the end
Would I like this album as much if I didn't have long-ago memories of establishing musical tastes to it? It's a classic and weird in ways I really like and may not have patience for anymore. RIP my attention span.
This is the perfect rock album, the definition of a rock album. It’s also a personal favorite. Never gets old.
This site should have an "Abbey Road" rating option, because how are the other albums supposed to compare to this? Perfect song after perfect song. Come on. Six stars.
The medley……..
Masterpiece from beginning to end. I've heard this album a thousand times, but listening again with fresh ears just solidified what I've always felt; perfection. Beautiful, fun, iconic, interesting, prolific, magic. No one like the Beatles.
Already listen to this 5 stars for suree
You could make an argument that while side A is immaculate, side B is bloated. Mr Mustard through She Came In feels like filler. But then you start to wrap up with Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight, and it feels like the only ending possible to probably the all-time greatest seven-year collaboration in pop music. They manage to include the whole history of Beatles songwriting: the tight songcraft of the early years (Oh! Darling); the Sgt Pepper wildness (Octopus's Garden); the gilt-record later-career hits, suffused with a little more wisdom (Here Comes The Sun), and the folky bits of improvised irreverence that inspired a thousand imitator albums (The End). I don't know if this is the real coda record, or Let It Be. But goddamn, this one works.
The Good: Too much… The Bad: Not enough… The Ugly: My score… What is there to write about this album? It is what it is… another fucking Beatles album that shows why they are one of the most successful bands in modern music history… A fucking song about an Octopus Garden, really? Got to hand it to Ringo, he knows how to create quirky songs that just make you wish for more… Lennon and McCartney both show us why they are who they are… sometimes did have to giggle a little, but maybe that’s because I was being tickled by my wife during Oh Darling I could have used a little more Harrison… but who’s counting? Lastly, what an album cover! Perfection almost… I can’t think of a better way for a band like the Beatles to bow out! 5* graded to 5*
Classic but also a little uneven. And yet..a classic.
Something, Because, Here Comes The Sun, one of if not the best Beatles LPs.
Perfect. No kotes
Classic
