These always so difficult as I understand the talent behind it but I just don’t care for it.
Just too much piano for me. I can recognize the skill and talent but one and done
while the guy is freakishly talented, spending over an hour listening to instrumental piano music is just not my idea of a good time. not my jam.
Ehhhhhh
bof 2/5
Very boring
Not for me
Undoubtedly interesting. The story of it is well worth reading. And it’s a great recording of an absolute master at work. But it’s still an hour of piano twiddling. Good twiddling, but it is pretty formless music. Which is very jazz … but it’s almost too pleasant for that. I love that music like this exists but I find it difficult to enjoy.
Too much Piano :-)
That was a lot of piano, and it just kept going... My rating just kept dropping as it went on
Tough one for me. I'm definitely not qualified to comment on the skill on display here. I definitely didn't hate it, but listening to someone noodle around on the piano for an hour is not my idea of good music. The record has an interesting story but I'll never go back to this. For me it's a 2, but I'm sure the level of playing on here is much higher.
Correcto.
This was enjoyable... I guess. An hour of piano solo will always be background music to me. It was good background music but I can't really give it more than a 2
Reminds me of the build music from The Sims.
No doubt the man can tickle the ivories with the best of them, but this is never gonna be my kinda thing.
nice driving music
Very good background music. Not earth shattering. Not sure why it’s on the list. And what was up with the grunting?
I like piano music. But not when it’s like this.
Digged the first piece. but improvisational piano gets boring quick when there's no sudden change in tone
I love instrumental piano solo music and ambient music and piano in general but this album made me feel absolutely nothing, it was a chore and I am disappointed in myself and the world. Holy fuck I just realized I'm not even through the first song yet.
piano piece boring 🥱
Pretty soothing piano. Im sure there's a lot there but I couldnt find it.
This was a guy noodling around playing chords and arpeggios and thinking it's high art.
Sounds like a '90s movie soundtrack. I guess piano jazz is better than the other kinds of jazz.
A nice piece of Jazz production. It sounds great and is great. It has all things you want instrumentally and does enough interesting stuff with the composition that it doesn’t get too repetitive. Overall enjoyable even if this type of Jazz isn’t my favorite thing.
Cool but not my thing
Soothing Piano Jazz that makes me want to ride an elevator
I'm sure it felt important if you were there, watching it live. But rather boring in a recorded version. I wouldn't even want to hear Joe Pass playing solo for that long.
I listened to every note.
Lots of piano, it was alright
If I knew music theory or studied piano I'm sure I'd appreciate this more.
1.5 - Man, if this were shorter, I could probably give this a higher score, but as it is, I wasn't a fan. It was very long. I mean, the first song was almost half an hour long. That's pretty crazy and I don't remember it changing very much over that duration, but maybe I just wasn't paying very much attention. Sometimes he'd make weird noises during the tracks too, which I didn't really enjoy hearing. The moaning felt weird. That seems to just be a thing he's known to do, upon further research. I won't hold it against him too much. Anyway, I ended up a bit annoyed by the end of this, thus the rating. Not really for me.
I found some really interesting and beautiful chord changes at times. I wanted to hear those evolve like free form jazz but they never did. Just a glimpse and back to something more mundane. And the songs were just too damn long. I fast forwarded one a few times and where I landed it sounded exactly like where I had come from. Ironically a John Coltrane song came on on Spotify right after this song ended. The contrast was profound. Keith Jarrett is no master. Still, interesting background story on this one and not saying he can’t play.
Never listened to Keith before — Very Nice! Great drummer he he.
I knew nothing of the artist or album going in but after looking him up, I know I've heard him play on the Miles Davis live albums. This is not an album I would seek out to play regularly but I would throw it on as background music now an then.
Lullabies to paralyze
I think he just played the same 30 seconds on loop for an hour.
Passabler Klavier Jazz.
I liked some of this but most of it was noise
He’s obviously a great piano player but just solo piano Jazz for over an hour gets kinda boring.
Boring ah album
Very talented pianist but it’s not engaging me at all
Very long classical piano album
Was dreading this when i saw it on friday so decided to save it for Monday AM. good move by me. it actually short of ripped. longer than it needed to be but i liked it more than i thought i would. just some songs dragged on a littttttle too long
It's good to work to. But there is nothing special about it.
This doesn’t seem super groundbreaking, but I’m probably wrong.
It's just not all that. A boring record.
First song ended peppy and fun Second song was ok Part IIb was nice as well The crown or someone going 'ooohhhh' every once in awhile is amusing Nothing special but not bad
Ah soothing Sunday hangover music. I know because I have a hangover. Unfortunately, I don’t have hangovers everyday, so 2/5
I'm not sure I enjoyed this. I'm sure its good it just isn't my thing.
grew on me as it went on, but not for me really ;’0
Not a huge fan.. I can respect the craftsmanship and the talent (and time) that went into it, but I am not a fan of piano instrumentals.
Somewhat soothing I suppose but something I could listen to only as background noise
Iha jees
Was ok. Just not my style of music enjoyed for studying but I found the pieces were quite long
Background music. Interesting story (cautionary tales podcast)
Ok
I am bored
Best Songs: N/A (Not that kind of album) Listen Again: No
I gave it 20 minutes. It'd be great if I was sitting in a waiting room. Actively listening to an album... not so much.
Good piano playing , but this just turns into background noise for me.
Probably like a 2.5 for me. Some interesting stuff peppered throughout, but better off as background music for me.
Bof. Ennuyeux.
Repetitive
Jazz. Puh.
Sounds fine but so long, couldn't appreciate it more than what I heard. They really kept all of the applause. High 2.
decent piano music, but got kinda stale after a while. 5/10
Not bad. But you definitely have to be in the mood.
This is the kind of thing my parents used to play at dinnertime.
I would never choose to listen to this again, it simply doesn't interest me, but it's not bad.
Dale Jarrett > Keith Jarrett
Good background music, obviously impressive, but just piano music to me.
Quite bad 2
This was unfortunately just not my vibe this weekend and I couldn’t really get into it. -B
It's nice but doesn't keep my attention.
Yep that sure was a piano concert with occasional moaning in it for some reason.
Nichts für mich
Not bad, but nothing incredible.
Nice but long and not too interesting to listen to, to be honest.
Just piano so not much to take in other than it is very relaxing in the initial minutes. Essentially an hour long piano piece performed live. The random grunts and other noises are kind of hilarious on such a serious piece. Can't say I know enough about piano to say how impresive or not this is. Probably good to put on for a quiet party or something.
This is not music at all but it was ok in the background
piano
Not my cup of tea. It was alright, but I’ve heard other piano concertos that I would rather listen to.
Listened during a nap, made it pretty wild.
Not into classical music at all and the songs were so incredibly long I kept skipping them halfway through due to boredom. But I could tell it's a masterpiece, just not my thing.
I just couldn't quite connect with this.
It started off real nice, then it started to get a bit tedious after a while. I didn't even really like it as background music. 2.5/5 rounded down
Obviously a great talent, but that doesn't make it an interesting album.
didn't listen
sure i guess
Not my jam
Yeah, good piano but just not my vibe, a bit too dramatic and stressful.
The solo piano is nice for about 30 mins, and then I needed a break. DNF
While very impressive, this is not something I’d likely listen to again. It does seem like the kind of thing that would be more interesting live, but I don’t particularly think this live recording gives that feeling as it ends up sounding about how I’d imagine a studio recording would anyway.
Interesting concept and story behind this album/recording. Not something I would normally listen to or really enjoy. Was good to have on in the background and that's all I can really say about this one.
Osaahan se soittaa. Minä vaan en ymmärrä arvostaa tällaista.
Vaati kyllä aika paljon kärsivällisyyttä, että jakso kuunnella loppuuna asti. Ei huono, mut liikaa
an HOUR????
zzzzz
If there was a visual novel about elevators this would play in the main menu. That being said, I mildly enjoyed it
first half was uninspiring, third song was good and then it fell off again
I'm impressed... but an hour of piano music isn't something I'd ever choose to listen to.
impressive piano, but not interesting me
boring
I liked this for about 10 or 15 minutes. After that it was just sort of banging on the piano for another 50 minutes. It's not bad. But a little monotonous.
Not my bag really. Can appreciate the technical accomplishment for sure, but didn't really connect.
Another new artist for me here. Only 4 tracks. I'm thinking jazz? Maybe just a pianist. Wow, I guess he played with Miles Davis for a time. Damn he's good! That was nice. It was relaxing.
Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: Yeah, it’s perfect background music, that’s how I feel is best to listen to classical as a genre
Calming I guess
While impressive as an improvisational piece, this is at the end of the day simply an hour of piano playing. Inspired as it may be, this LP opens a whole can of worms about list inclusion when it comes to more classically-oriented pieces – if improvisational piano is worthy of 1001, aren't at least 100 other classical pieces with inspired performances or innovative designs?
Nooo
Nice background music, won't be listening to it again, wasn't grabbed by it and it made me feel nothing.
I read up on this album while I was listening to it. I mean, it's piano for over an hour, sometimes have to do something else while an album is playing in the background. The story behind this night, and how it all got stuffed up from pillar to post, is quite amazing. the fact that this went ahead in the first place, and was recorded, is a minor miracle. As to the album itself. Well, given that it is an improvised performance, it is very clever. And the guy can obviously play, and the show was sold out, so there were plenty of people at the time who knew him. And it became the biggest selling album of its kind ever at the time of its release. But... did anyone else feel like they were in an elevator for an hour? Or, more accurately, that you were on hold on the phone for an hour? Because that is what I ended up getting out of it. Sure, it's clever, it's smart, and I couldn't do it. But in the long run, I felt like I was just waiting for it to end to get to where I was going, or get the answer to the question I had asked. Enchanting, but not for a repeat performance.
I can see the appeal but kinda boring
People that call it Köln in an English sentence are generally wankers. No Überraschung that this is jazz, then. Lots and lots of jazz piano, nothing else außer the occasional jazz wanker going "ohh!" in the crowd als the pianist was sehr interesting spielt. Maybe those same people would call it a Meisterstück. 2/5.
Lotsa clapping
I listened to one track, the first one. The 26 minute long one
That guy sure did play that piano
A long way removed from what I’d ever listen to.
Maxed out my piano based ratings
Zelf als achtergrondmuziek tijdens het werk was dit too much to handle.
i mean whatever
A little monotonous
I find the random voices very distracting. I kept looking behind me thinking someone was talking to me.
A few interesting parts here and there. The improv is impressive but not particularly captivating.
I do love the piano. I do love a talented and accomplished musician. Given that, why do I just not care about this album? It sounded like a soundscape or film score of a documentary on mountains. I actually kept forgetting I was supposed to be listening and walking off to do something else. It made so little impression on me. I’m sure he is a brilliant talent. What did make me laugh was at the very end I listened to the applause since it was a live concert. Even that live audience sounded very nonplussed with their lacklustre response. To describe it as a smattering of applause would be more than kind. Perhaps they too had - metaphorically - wandered off.
Mostly it seemed like aimless doodling. I just didn't feel entertained. Maybe you had to be there?
Very mellow
Piano! Just Piano!
Talented guy but…it’s…just…piano??
Nice enough, just nothing but Piano is not for me
This was pleasant background music. It should not be on this list
2 for the story and skill, but it'd be a 1 for me on its own
2.5 estrellas.
It’s an hour long concert with 4 songs
This was not for me. It's interesting as a concept, not interesting to listen to. So very, very dull to my ears. Perhaps someone with some actual knowledge of music theory and piano playing would be much more impressed? I can't bring myself to give it a 1 even though it probably should be by my usual standards. Never again. And that moaning stuff? Lolwut
Great piano playing technique-wise, of course, but I don't really see the point of the album. I might as well listen to actual pianopieces if I want to hear solopiano.
Not much of my jam. Some good bits in it but overall not structured enough for me.
Essential listening for those who believe "The Firm" is a cinematic masterpiece.
Whoosh.....that's the sound of this music going right over my head. I just don't "get" it. It sounds impressive and he's obviously a very talented musician, but it just doesn't move or involve me in any way. I'm sure that it's me - not him!
Nice enough, hard to go higher than a 2. Is that the audience or him shouting out during the playing? If so he's really enjoying himself
Tinnitus made this a hard listen.
I respect the talent but not my thing at all.
Good pianist, but a whole album of improv is boring.
Slept on it, extremely talented man but fuck me this is boring. Also, the groans and grunts as he plays are off putting and distracting.
It's nice background music but the album was too long for me.
Not really my style, though it's obvious there's a lot of skill at play here.
Not the worst jazz sounds nice and it's impressive that he just made it up or whatever but doesn't move me
A relaxing listen, talented pianist, but not particularly engaging.
Keith is a fantastic player and his music is interesting and beautiful. I’m just not a huge fan of this style of playing.
Live plinky plonky piano.
Lekker toegankelijke piano muziek.
too much piaano
Is the way he improvised his music given the difficulties and the circumstances impressive? Yes. Are the melodies interesting for someone who doesn't know a single thing about jazz or music theory (like me)? At some moments, yes. A good background music for doing some tasks for school or work? If you don't mind the moaning sounds, yes. So does that mean that I enjoyed this piano fiddling that stretches for more than an hour? No.
If this was half the length I would have rated it much higher. As it is, it's over an hour of just piano solos. It's not bad, just way too long.
Undoubtedly a great piano player; just not very interesting to me.
An interesting listen, definitely something that I would not normally listen to unless I was perhaps going to a concert specifically for this. I can appreciate that Keith Jarrett is a very good pianist, but I will probably never listen to this again. No Best/Worst as I think it should be treated as a whole performance.
The story behind this album is incredible. Much respect - I probably won’t listen again but as far as Jazz albums go this was one of the better ones so far.
Piano music it’s ok
Piano
I don’t think I will listen to it again but it was nice
Ehhhhh, this was very jazz heavy. It wasn't bad but can't think when I would ever listen too again
So, this is really not my thing at all I got through half the album. It was decent background, but I would not listen to this again.
Nudy.
I used to live with a jazz pianist who LOVED Keith Jarrett. I've heard this album more times than I care to remember. I cannot stand Keith Jarrett. One star. Done.
20 minute long songs but only 4 songs very interesting but just instrumental i want the voice of overwatch voice acters
4 songs and its an hour long 20 min songs with no words i have no words anymore
Nothing against the skills. But I am not into listening to someone play the piano for 20 minutes at a time
If this was a ranking of albums to get me to sleep this would be the highest rating I could give. But it ain’t. I can appreciate the playing but the pieces are boring
didnt finish the whole thing but very much not for me. just boring
Sorry....this album is not for me
I can’t same I’m a very big fan of instrumental stuff… Fav song is ‘Part II a’
Really boring classical piano music, one album that is essentially a really long monotonous song
I hate this. One poorly functioning piano and jazz is a terrible combination.
Boring. Only background noise
Easy listening good for working
It sure was piano (dnf)
People that enjoy this also enjoy the smell of their farts
not my type of music
It's impressive, but not something I'd seek out
Some guy that plays piano very well noodles around on a piano for over an hour, and when he’s done, the whole audience is so relieved that they applaud and cheer for like 5 minutes.
Not for me
Je n'aime pas le piano...
Just not my cup of tea unfortunately. Very calming though.
Nope
No thanks
I usually need strong lyrics to stay engaged with a song, so despite how beautiful this sounded, I found myself getting a little bored.
First listen
Paul isn't happy either
Autotelic
It’s just an hour of piano, there’s nothing exciting about it. It bores me.
Meh
Really rather dull.
Nö
no
1/10
This is background music
i can't listen to 26 minutes songs im sorry
Couldn’t get beyond the first 15 minutes
Didn’t listen
some interesting stuff, but ultimately not my thing. I guess I listened midway through the second track before i thought - nah let's not listen to this any longer.
It was good it had some songs that I recognized. Not something I would listen to for fun but still good
So you’re telling me this was all improv? Also, those weird grunts he makes sadly give this an automatic 1, I don’t want to hear one of that weird grunting shit,
Nope nope nope
Not my genre. Boring No doubt, excellent pianist.
2/10
Not for me
Possibly the worst driving music I've ever suffered through. Maybe I would've enjoyed it in a more relaxed atmosphere
Bbbbbbboooooooooorrrrriiiinnnngggg
He's obviously talented, but I would never listen to an hour-long improvised piano session by my own accord. I audibly laughed every time he grunted. How could this be one of the best albums of all time? 1/5
Not my cup of tea zzzzzzzz
Live album.
Enformigt.
Not for me
I gather from Wikipedia that this is supposed to be good or remarkable or something. To me it just feels like I'm in trouble for something. This is the exact kind of music you hear against your will at a depressing bar in a huge soulless hotel attached to a convention centre.

Boring
Yeah an hour long album of just piano is not for me.
Sacrilegious as it is to rate this 1 star, I must keep to my tradition of doing so if I can't get through a whole album. It's GRAND, like, but dull and tuneless.
Sometimes you just aren't in the mood. Unfortunately for this album, I just wasn't in the right head space to have much appreciation for a full 60+ minutes of jazz piano.
I usually like instrumental music, but these pieces didn’t have much variety. I was expecting to feel something, yet I didn’t.
Pure unaccompanied piano for over an hour? Literal background music.
A real snooze fest
The new Wednesday album came out but you told yourself you can't listen to it until you've finished your 1001 albums homework. This album of piano and moaning was the generator becoming actively hostile towards me. 1.5
una garcha no me copo nada
Snooze
1975. I've no idea who this is, and frankly I've no intention of finding out more. My word this is dull! Over an hour of tediuos charity advert piano music, spread over just for tracks. It got 30mins from me, then a scan of the remaining tracks to find out that they all sounded the same. I can't ever imagine a situation when I would crave this kind of background, hotel reception vibe. Anyway, I'm not a fan... Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️50% Revisit ❌️ not a chance ★☆☆☆☆
Piano improvisation.
“Jazzy” piano stylings for people who don’t like jazz? It’s like a "Van Gogh" exhibit with nothing but bleached out pencil sketches. Frustrating to the point of psychosis when you’ve been raised on all of the color.
Kompetent pianospelare.
Just piano. Too sleepy. Not for me.
Not my taste and therefore quite boring
Fucking jazz piano
My initial impression of this album was “dinner music” Over the course of listening to it things got a little more interesting, but the entire time that dinner music thought stuck very firmly in my head. Things get jazzy at times, but I never found myself really engaged or totally interested in the piano playing itself. I really need more from a record. An album of nothing but one single piano isn’t really for me. Sorry, Keith.
1. No canciones favoritas.
just a little too slow for me. maybe another time, another lifetime
Snoooooooze fest. Not for me
Don't get me wrong, I like the piano, but a solid hour. Not sure why I must hear this before I die.
FUCK JAZZ and besides, my piano teacher told me this guy was banned from many jazz festivals for being an asshole. I don't like music made by entitled assholes. So, fuck him!.
Not for me
Not my vibe for casual listening
Just… not for me.
Off the cuff remark: hard work, and not in a rewarding way. I kept thinking there was going to be a Disney song any minute. Give me Miles Davis, Sidney Bechet, John Coltrane... etc. Standout track?: nope Revisit? No.
solo piano live jazz. Not for me. It could be ok if I was at a restaurant and someone was playing it in the background, but I will never seek this out again. I don’t need a 26 minute piano only song, let alone an hour and 6 minutes of a live album. Is he talented? Absolutely. But it’s not my thing. I found myself wondering though, if this was a Prince album, would I have liked it more? Maybe. I just have no connection to it and cared nothing about it.
Who snuck in elevator music?
Not my thing at all. Great story, though.
You plinky-plonky in, and you plinkly-plonky out, you do the plinky-plonky and you turnaround. (Quite literally) That’s what it’s all about. Nobody wants to hear an hour long guitar solo, especially unaccompanied. Same applies to the piano. That was biblically tedious.
I never realized how blindingly bright my flaming anger towards jazz piano is
Proto-Muzak.
Not my cup of tea. Fiddly piano good for background music to fill space but not something I would go out of my way to listen to. I’m sure it’s iconic in the right circles
1 hour for 4 songs? Classical jazz? dude.
1 - I’m not going to listen to a whole hour of this, really not what I like in music
Woof. This was tough listening. Two stars for talent. One star for how much I enjoyed it. Part 1 is this just soft piano music?- yup, it's just soft piano music Part 2a how can you tell the difference between parts? Part 2b I mean the guy is talented Part 2c this is a weird fusion of jazz, without any soul, classical and easy listening I wanted to make this two stars because of the talent, but I hated this in my soul.
Fine for 10 mins Then extremely boring
If you love rollicking piano instrumentals, you’ll dig this. To me, it all sounds the same 1001 album worthy: No - 51/96
Not for me. I couldn't even get through track 1. Maybe I am an uncultured swine. Take me back to pop hits with lyrics and basic beats
Too hazardous?
Really not for me. I like instrumental but this was just like on hold music
Why can’t I vote zero stars?
Part I - pretty good with a lot of key tickling. Jarrett def enjoyed playing this section...maybe a little too much at times. Part II A&B - much more mellow. I was not into this lull in the performance. Part II C - a finisher blend that picked it up again for a brief moment and then faded out. Man has talent on the piano and it made for a peaceful commute to work. Traffic wasn't as aggravating...1.3.
Can't say I've ever listed to something like this before and don't imagine I will again in the future. I can't speak to anything about the skill or composition because it all starts to run together after an hour but its clear that Keith Jarrett is a skilled pianist. I guess I'm impressed that someone was able to string together 60+ minutes of unaccompanied piano and keep me (relatively) interested. There's been a lot worse on this list in a multitude of genres. At least I can understand without scratching my head as to why that this is a guy improvising on a piano for an hour whether you like it or not. If this is your thing I'm sure it's an impressive concert but it's not for me beyond a few minutes. 1.45 stars
Too much piano
“Man makes sex sounds while weather channel music plays in the background.” No thanks.

Not for me
Didn't enjoy it at all but I can appreciate that its a great piece of music
Not for me 👎
I must be an uncultured swine. I don’t get any enjoyment out of this, just piano and occasional moaning by who I assume is the pianist. I recognize the talent it must take to play like this, but I’m never going to choose to listen to it.
Might have a nice backgroupstory and might be impressive, but I can't stand and hour of improv piano.
Not my cup of tea
Not that good
Hard to listen to whole thing
Whew, what a week of unfulfilling albums. Figure there'd be some lulls, but wow this week has been a slog. And to round out the week, we get a hour long solo "jazz" piano concert. I didn't enjoy this - I'd much rather hear a jazz trio/quartet, etc. working thru material. Not my cup of tea, your milage may vary!
holy snoozefest
Music to have on in the background but nothing more. I have nothing really to say about this apart from this is why this project is amazing as I would have never listend to this otherwise. In summary 1 hour of solo piano playing is boring!!!
01) Part I - 4,0 02) Part II a - 4,0 03) Part II b - 4,5 04) Part II c - 5,0 TOTAL: 4,38 (44/100) Current ranking: 238/249 Endless piano playing. Ok, we know you can play the piano, but you could actually play some tunes in this hour-long album. Couldn't we have some Ludovico Einaudi album instead of this one?
