Reviews (page 13 of 13)

If this was half the length I would have rated it much higher. As it is, it's over an hour of just piano solos. It's not bad, just way too long.

Undoubtedly a great piano player; just not very interesting to me.

An interesting listen, definitely something that I would not normally listen to unless I was perhaps going to a concert specifically for this. I can appreciate that Keith Jarrett is a very good pianist, but I will probably never listen to this again. No Best/Worst as I think it should be treated as a whole performance.

The story behind this album is incredible. Much respect - I probably won’t listen again but as far as Jazz albums go this was one of the better ones so far.

Piano music it’s ok

I don’t think I will listen to it again but it was nice

Ehhhhh, this was very jazz heavy. It wasn't bad but can't think when I would ever listen too again

I never liked this album. It just sounds like Keith Jarrett banging on the keys for an hour. As an artist, he takes himself way too seriously.

i knew i was gonna hate it when i saw the first song was 20 minutes. this was extremely boring

A very competent pianist noodles for an hour. Occasionally, he strikes on something that verges on a fully-formed song. Mostly, it’s just a talented musician playing around.

Ugh, maybe it's me that I am illiterate or something, but I just wanted this to end. At least the guy is clearly enjoying what he does.

Pathetic An hour of piano? I'm sorry, you simply cannot pull yourself to listen to this, you'd start questioning your life choices, and wished you never put this on. Really repetitive background music, ideal if you own a bumload of cash drinking a wine with a lady in your arms P.S I dozed of in 10.

Maybe I'm just unsophisticated, but 20-minute meandering piano songs just aren't for me.

i just simply do not care

25 minute song brother....

This is the type of jazz that people make fun of. An hour of just improvised piano with the occasional moan is not interesting. The piano playing is great, but at the end of the day, you can go to any jazz bar on a random Wednesday and hear something just as interesting. The story is cool, but it's not enough to save my boredom. I like that we later went on to sue Donald Fagen; that might give this album another star.

So, this is really not my thing at all I got through half the album. It was decent background, but I would not listen to this again.

I used to live with a jazz pianist who LOVED Keith Jarrett. I've heard this album more times than I care to remember. I cannot stand Keith Jarrett. One star. Done.

20 minute long songs but only 4 songs very interesting but just instrumental i want the voice of overwatch voice acters

4 songs and its an hour long 20 min songs with no words i have no words anymore

Nothing against the skills. But I am not into listening to someone play the piano for 20 minutes at a time

If this was a ranking of albums to get me to sleep this would be the highest rating I could give. But it ain’t. I can appreciate the playing but the pieces are boring

didnt finish the whole thing but very much not for me. just boring

Sorry....this album is not for me

I can’t same I’m a very big fan of instrumental stuff… Fav song is ‘Part II a’

Really boring classical piano music, one album that is essentially a really long monotonous song

I hate this. One poorly functioning piano and jazz is a terrible combination.

Boring. Only background noise

Easy listening good for working

It sure was piano (dnf)

People that enjoy this also enjoy the smell of their farts

not my type of music

It's impressive, but not something I'd seek out

Some guy that plays piano very well noodles around on a piano for over an hour, and when he’s done, the whole audience is so relieved that they applaud and cheer for like 5 minutes.

Not for me

Je n'aime pas le piano...

Just not my cup of tea unfortunately. Very calming though.

No thanks

I usually need strong lyrics to stay engaged with a song, so despite how beautiful this sounded, I found myself getting a little bored.

First listen

Paul isn't happy either

Autotelic

It’s just an hour of piano, there’s nothing exciting about it. It bores me.

Really rather dull.

This is background music

i can't listen to 26 minutes songs im sorry

Couldn’t get beyond the first 15 minutes

Didn’t listen

some interesting stuff, but ultimately not my thing. I guess I listened midway through the second track before i thought - nah let's not listen to this any longer.

It was good it had some songs that I recognized. Not something I would listen to for fun but still good

So you’re telling me this was all improv? Also, those weird grunts he makes sadly give this an automatic 1, I don’t want to hear one of that weird grunting shit,

Nope nope nope

Not my genre. Boring No doubt, excellent pianist.

Not for me

Possibly the worst driving music I've ever suffered through. Maybe I would've enjoyed it in a more relaxed atmosphere

Bbbbbbboooooooooorrrrriiiinnnngggg

He's obviously talented, but I would never listen to an hour-long improvised piano session by my own accord. I audibly laughed every time he grunted. How could this be one of the best albums of all time? 1/5

Not my cup of tea zzzzzzzz

Live album.

Enformigt.

Not for me

I gather from Wikipedia that this is supposed to be good or remarkable or something. To me it just feels like I'm in trouble for something. This is the exact kind of music you hear against your will at a depressing bar in a huge soulless hotel attached to a convention centre.

Boring

Yeah an hour long album of just piano is not for me.

Sacrilegious as it is to rate this 1 star, I must keep to my tradition of doing so if I can't get through a whole album. It's GRAND, like, but dull and tuneless.

Sometimes you just aren't in the mood. Unfortunately for this album, I just wasn't in the right head space to have much appreciation for a full 60+ minutes of jazz piano.

I usually like instrumental music, but these pieces didn’t have much variety. I was expecting to feel something, yet I didn’t.

Pure unaccompanied piano for over an hour? Literal background music.

A real snooze fest

The new Wednesday album came out but you told yourself you can't listen to it until you've finished your 1001 albums homework. This album of piano and moaning was the generator becoming actively hostile towards me. 1.5

una garcha no me copo nada

Snooze

1975. I've no idea who this is, and frankly I've no intention of finding out more. My word this is dull! Over an hour of tediuos charity advert piano music, spread over just for tracks. It got 30mins from me, then a scan of the remaining tracks to find out that they all sounded the same. I can't ever imagine a situation when I would crave this kind of background, hotel reception vibe. Anyway, I'm not a fan... Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️50% Revisit ❌️ not a chance ★☆☆☆☆

Piano improvisation.

“Jazzy” piano stylings for people who don’t like jazz? It’s like a "Van Gogh" exhibit with nothing but bleached out pencil sketches. Frustrating to the point of psychosis when you’ve been raised on all of the color.

Kompetent pianospelare.

Just piano. Too sleepy. Not for me.

Not my taste and therefore quite boring

Fucking jazz piano

My initial impression of this album was “dinner music” Over the course of listening to it things got a little more interesting, but the entire time that dinner music thought stuck very firmly in my head. Things get jazzy at times, but I never found myself really engaged or totally interested in the piano playing itself. I really need more from a record. An album of nothing but one single piano isn’t really for me. Sorry, Keith.

1. No canciones favoritas.

just a little too slow for me. maybe another time, another lifetime

Snoooooooze fest. Not for me

Don't get me wrong, I like the piano, but a solid hour. Not sure why I must hear this before I die.

FUCK JAZZ and besides, my piano teacher told me this guy was banned from many jazz festivals for being an asshole. I don't like music made by entitled assholes. So, fuck him!.

Not for me

Not my vibe for casual listening

Just… not for me.

Off the cuff remark: hard work, and not in a rewarding way. I kept thinking there was going to be a Disney song any minute. Give me Miles Davis, Sidney Bechet, John Coltrane... etc. Standout track?: nope Revisit? No.

solo piano live jazz. Not for me. It could be ok if I was at a restaurant and someone was playing it in the background, but I will never seek this out again. I don’t need a 26 minute piano only song, let alone an hour and 6 minutes of a live album. Is he talented? Absolutely. But it’s not my thing. I found myself wondering though, if this was a Prince album, would I have liked it more? Maybe. I just have no connection to it and cared nothing about it.

Who snuck in elevator music?

Not my thing at all. Great story, though.

You plinky-plonky in, and you plinkly-plonky out, you do the plinky-plonky and you turnaround. (Quite literally) That’s what it’s all about. Nobody wants to hear an hour long guitar solo, especially unaccompanied. Same applies to the piano. That was biblically tedious.

I never realized how blindingly bright my flaming anger towards jazz piano is

Proto-Muzak.

Not my cup of tea. Fiddly piano good for background music to fill space but not something I would go out of my way to listen to. I’m sure it’s iconic in the right circles

1 hour for 4 songs? Classical jazz? dude.

1 - I’m not going to listen to a whole hour of this, really not what I like in music

Woof. This was tough listening. Two stars for talent. One star for how much I enjoyed it. Part 1 is this just soft piano music?- yup, it's just soft piano music Part 2a how can you tell the difference between parts? Part 2b I mean the guy is talented Part 2c this is a weird fusion of jazz, without any soul, classical and easy listening I wanted to make this two stars because of the talent, but I hated this in my soul.

Fine for 10 mins Then extremely boring

If you love rollicking piano instrumentals, you’ll dig this. To me, it all sounds the same 1001 album worthy: No - 51/96

Not for me. I couldn't even get through track 1. Maybe I am an uncultured swine. Take me back to pop hits with lyrics and basic beats

Too hazardous?

Really not for me. I like instrumental but this was just like on hold music

Why can’t I vote zero stars?

Part I - pretty good with a lot of key tickling. Jarrett def enjoyed playing this section...maybe a little too much at times. Part II A&B - much more mellow. I was not into this lull in the performance. Part II C - a finisher blend that picked it up again for a brief moment and then faded out. Man has talent on the piano and it made for a peaceful commute to work. Traffic wasn't as aggravating...1.3.

Can't say I've ever listed to something like this before and don't imagine I will again in the future. I can't speak to anything about the skill or composition because it all starts to run together after an hour but its clear that Keith Jarrett is a skilled pianist. I guess I'm impressed that someone was able to string together 60+ minutes of unaccompanied piano and keep me (relatively) interested. There's been a lot worse on this list in a multitude of genres. At least I can understand without scratching my head as to why that this is a guy improvising on a piano for an hour whether you like it or not. If this is your thing I'm sure it's an impressive concert but it's not for me beyond a few minutes. 1.45 stars

Too much piano

“Man makes sex sounds while weather channel music plays in the background.” No thanks.

yea this shit aint for me if i wanted music for studying id just listen to lofi hip hop radio 📚 beats to relax/study to

Not for me

Didn't enjoy it at all but I can appreciate that its a great piece of music

Not for me 👎

I must be an uncultured swine. I don’t get any enjoyment out of this, just piano and occasional moaning by who I assume is the pianist. I recognize the talent it must take to play like this, but I’m never going to choose to listen to it.

Might have a nice backgroupstory and might be impressive, but I can't stand and hour of improv piano.

Not my cup of tea

Not that good

Hard to listen to whole thing

Whew, what a week of unfulfilling albums. Figure there'd be some lulls, but wow this week has been a slog. And to round out the week, we get a hour long solo "jazz" piano concert. I didn't enjoy this - I'd much rather hear a jazz trio/quartet, etc. working thru material. Not my cup of tea, your milage may vary!

holy snoozefest

Music to have on in the background but nothing more. I have nothing really to say about this apart from this is why this project is amazing as I would have never listend to this otherwise. In summary 1 hour of solo piano playing is boring!!!

01) Part I - 4,0 02) Part II a - 4,0 03) Part II b - 4,5 04) Part II c - 5,0 TOTAL: 4,38 (44/100) Current ranking: 238/249 Endless piano playing. Ok, we know you can play the piano, but you could actually play some tunes in this hour-long album. Couldn't we have some Ludovico Einaudi album instead of this one?

Zzzzzz not for me.

70’s

So long, so boring don't bother

The recording was harsh and the highs didn’t seem to be rendered faithfully. Additionally the live ambiance of coughing and such was distracting.

Not interesting

This album is to classical music as smooth jazz is to jazz. That is, an insipid shadow of what it’s trying to emulate. That’s my ungenerous take. But I’ve avoided my album of the day listening for three weeks now - I have a lot to catch up on - in part because I couldn’t stand the thought of listening to this through to the end. Today’s the day I’m biting the bullet.

grueling

Best selling piano album of all time. Couldn't get through the first song

I was never a fan of Jazz, and after an hour of this album that has not changed

4 songs. Part I. Part IIA. Part IIB. Part IIC. Frankly, I don't see. 66 minutes of piano music. Some of the riffs are decent. But it's a live album.

Not really a big fan of piano music. This is insanely impressive just not for me :(

Sorry, but this is just too boring for me, never mind I realise this is all technically excellent playing.

this dude is jerking off on the piano

No. Every roommate I've had that thought they were better than everyone else had this on vinyl. It's terrible.

This was terribly boring and uncreative. No, thank you.

Not for me - lost interest. 1/5

All piano. Definitely not my cup of tea

Sounds like I'm on hold for the phone company

Live piano album

I would give this album 2 stars, but live albums should NOT be on this list. Too bad.

1. 4.9 2. 4.8 3. 4.9 4. 4.9

Not a fan

i don’t love only piano… but it was pretty and maybe if i was making cuisine with fiends i’d listen to it uhhh prolly not

This is not for me, but it is not bad. Incredible pianist.

Elevator music

Not my taste in music. While I think his piano playing is excellent, just not something I'm into listening to.

I usually appreciate concert music, just today was not in the mood for it :/

How fucken boring. A whole hour of piano improv. I can't see myself enjoying this anytime soon

Boring

could i write poetry to this? n

This is the best-selling solo jazz album ever?!? Over an hour of aimless noodling in the middle registers of the piano. It literally goes nowhere. Wake me up when it's over.

Boriiiing.

You kidding me

sure was a piano in there huh. made for fine background music while at work, but this neither stirred anything in my nor stands out in my mind. will probably never listen again. 1.5

More tough going. I just couldn't ever into this. Endless piano noodlings that were not particularly interesting. Sorry, not my bag.

I don't dig solo piano that much.

Part I- 1/5 Part II a- 1.2/5 Part II b- 0.9/5 Part II c- 1.3/5 Total- 1.1/5

Piano shit, not my thing

An hour-long solo record feels so self-indulgent that it was hard to enjoy. It gets one star for teaching me that the interplay between musicians is something I need in my music. (Headphones users beware, Jarrett's foot stomps add nothing but annoying low frequency thumps when his piano mic picks up the vibrations)

If I’m going to listen to a piano album, I’d prefer Yanni over an album like this with 17 minute songs where the pianist is moaning and “woooing” in the background. Didn’t finish after the first song.

Maybe I just don't have the ear for it, but it seems completely unremarkable. The random moans from listeners on the live recording were also very jarring.

Improvised solo jazz piano. Lord have patience, I couldn't finish this one.

Boring, prefer classical piano piece.

I'm ready to give up

Not for me

Not my thing

Not my style

Real boring

Didnt finish the first track

Just really boring and tinny. It doesn't know if it wants to be jazz or classical, but there's not really anything interesting to listen to here. Might be okay at the lowest volume in a coffee shop and by lowest volume, I mean muted.

Apparently no one had ever improvised on piano before 1975

i’m not going to lie this is very much not my thing. good music for background listening i think, but i am simply not cultured enough to appreciate this properly and this is a Me problem. it is impressive, and beautiful, but not something i would pick up to listen to again

I couldn't make it past the second song, this has gotta be some sort of torture 😭

Didn’t listen, was half hour classical music pieces and not the exact vibe for the day

Despite enjoying piano, this did absolutely nothing for me. Found it too smooth and dull to be jazz (how on earth is it classed as jazz?) and not structured or atmospheric enough to be neo-classical. Just found it really really dull and disappointing

I'm not one for solo piano music and so apart from isolated sections I didn't find this very engaging. Trying to appreciate it for what it is, I thought it was fairly linear, with few changes in tempo or style. While Keith is clearly a very talented musician I needed more variety to keep my attention for the hour. Wouldn't come back.

I’m sure this is great I just don’t really know why. Maybe it’s a if you get it you get it? I can’t do what he does and I liked all of it, but I just didn’t get why it’s special

The hyperactive son of Gershwin.

Great if you like this music, but purely instrumental wasn’t for me

Very good pianist - too long, too jazzy in places.

nur klavier sonst nix :( teil 1 anstrengend, A & B aber cool

An hour+ long piano improvisation ... why is this an album? I guess for people watching live it could be interesting to observe music being created in real time. Listening to it now, I can appreciate the artist's skill and ideas, but it is just boring.

Ah man, just random piano sounds....bored.

Nice background music. Less my thing

Well that was very boring. I get that he's an incredible pianist working in difficult circumstances, but... Improvisation is how you start a piece of music, not the end result. You're supposed to go back and refine it till you have a piece of thrilling music. This is akin to a detective finding a dead body and saying "My work here is done", or an archaeologist finding a pile of dirt and not digging. In short, an utter waste of my time.

That’s a lot of piano. Some might say way too much.

It was like a wanky piano version of a guitar solo. This could have been Richard Clayderman or Klaus Wunerlich.

painfully boring. white noise is better

Background music

No. Just no, for me.

Completely Uninteresting. Not for me.

No entiendo está música

Technically excellent but bereft of any structure which leaves it sounding like a self indulgent ivory wankfest.

Piano snooze, but appreciate he did the concert on my birthday

i do not like instrumental albums lmao

Wanted to appreciate this more but at the end of the day it wasn’t for me. Even tried to give it a second chance and couldn’t really get past part I. Undeniably impressive skill and talent especially given circumstances, but I couldn’t personally enjoy it.

Not a fan of jazz piano. This could be excellent and it would still remind me of elevators and hallmark movies too much to be enjoyed

the sims pause music

Quite boring.
