Graceland by Paul Simon
Oct 24 2023

Very cheery-sounding, almost to the point of cheesiness (and the saxophone doesn't help that, IMO). A few songs in a minor key could have done a lot to even out the overall sound. Still, I liked the vocal harmonies and some of the baselines. Lots of familiar songs on this album since my parents listened to this one all the time when I was growing up.

Hot Rats by Frank Zappa
Oct 25 2023

Loved the jazzy chords mixed in with rock elements like electric guitar and drums. I missed vocals somewhat, but it's also refreshing to listen to something designed without them, too. Very happy to have learned about this one.

1984 by Van Halen
Oct 26 2023
Urban Hymns by The Verve
Oct 27 2023

Lame and forgettable. In fact, I don't remember any songs between the first (which I know from the radio) and the last (which was 6 minutes long and actually different from the rest).

Ramones by Ramones
Oct 28 2023

Super repetitive and boring. Not enjoyable

Ágætis Byrjun by Sigur Rós
Oct 29 2023

Interesting but ultimately not something I would seek out to listen to in the future.

OK by Talvin Singh
Oct 30 2023

Hard to get into, mostly boring. Some interesting ideas in there.

Quiet Life by Japan
Nov 01 2023

Instrumentation was nice, but the vocals were bad.

Chris by Christine and the Queens
Nov 02 2023

Pretty good overall. I much preferred the songs where she didn't try to sing in English since the ones in English were simplistic and hard to understand.

S&M by Metallica
Nov 04 2023

Enjoyed it, despite the edgy 11-year-old style metal lyrics ("awoo I'm a werewolf lol"). The vocals were better than I expected.

Shaka Zulu by Ladysmith Black Mambazo
Nov 05 2023

Super boring, even as someone who doesn't mind a cappella and grew up hearing Graceland all the time. All the songs sounded the same to me.

Coat Of Many Colors by Dolly Parton
Nov 07 2023

Loved it. I'm not very familiar with country, so a lot of this album reminded me a lot of CAKE, which may have been influenced by it. This is the kind of gems I was hoping to find on this list.

Elvis Presley by Elvis Presley
Nov 08 2023

Enjoyed it. To my ear, it reminds me of Christmas since a lot of radio Christmas songs are of a similar era, and of Hawaii. It's also cool to hear rock and roll that's still so closely related to blues and jazz.

Pink Moon by Nick Drake
Nov 09 2023

It didn't capture my attention at all. Useful as background music, but nothing else for me.

The Boatman's Call by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Nov 10 2023

Very boring, every song sounded the same. His voice is nice, but not the songs he sang.

Your Arsenal by Morrissey
Nov 12 2023

Boring. Didn't finish the album.

Hotel California by Eagles
Nov 13 2023

Enjoyed it. I liked the songs that were a little harder rock than what made them most famous.

Odessey And Oracle by The Zombies
Nov 14 2023

Pretty good, but I thought the best song was the only one I already knew. Unfortunately the rest of the album isn't much like that song.

The Sun Rises In The East by Jeru The Damaja
Nov 15 2023

Enjoyable. Some of the lyrics seemed a bit contrived, crammed in where they don't really fit.

School's Out by Alice Cooper
Nov 16 2023

Good instrumentals, bad vocals, including the style and the dumb lyrics.

Rip It Up by Orange Juice
Nov 17 2023

Boring.

The Köln Concert by Keith Jarrett
Nov 18 2023

It's nice but doesn't keep my attention.

In Rainbows by Radiohead
Nov 19 2023

I generally like Radiohead, but some of his albums don't engage me as much as others. This is one of the less engaging ones. Only one song stood out to me as memorable.

Roxy Music by Roxy Music
Nov 20 2023

Weird but ultimately not interesting.

Tigermilk by Belle & Sebastian
Nov 24 2023

Boring.

Nilsson Schmilsson by Harry Nilsson
Nov 25 2023

Didn't care for it. Sounded like background music made for commercials to me.

Rattlesnakes by Lloyd Cole And The Commotions
Nov 26 2023

I can't even remember it now, and it's been fewer than 24 hours.

Darkdancer by Les Rythmes Digitales
Nov 27 2023

Enjoyed it somewhat. Reminded me of 90s N64 games.

Revolver by Beatles
Nov 28 2023

As expected this is a 5. Creative, every song sounds different. Vocal harmonies and instrumentals are great.

Get Behind Me Satan by The White Stripes
Nov 29 2023

Interesting, creative, but sometimes a bit too wacky. Liked it overall.

Tidal by Fiona Apple
Dec 02 2023

Liked it a lot. I'd only heard Criminal, which I still think is the best track, but a lot of them were great.

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
Dec 06 2023

A little bit slow, but I definitely enjoyed it.

Butterfly by Mariah Carey
Dec 11 2023

The opposite of most on this list, this album has a confident, talented vocalist with lackluster instrumentation behind her. This is still too close to the early '90s smooth pop for me to enjoy much.

C'est Chic by CHIC
Dec 14 2023

Fun music, but the vocals left a lot to be desired; they were pretty repetitive. The bass does a lot of the work making this album interesting.

Remedy by Basement Jaxx
Dec 15 2023
Abbey Road by Beatles
Dec 17 2023

They're just excellent. Great songwriting and two exceptional vocalists.

Dirt by Alice In Chains
Dec 19 2023

Didn't like a lot of the songs, but there were some I enjoyed. The vocals aren't great, though.
