Forgettable
Pretty boring
I didn't really connect with this album. I didn't dislike it, I just thought it was okay and none of the songs peaked my interest greatly. I'd say my favourite song on the album was "I'm the Man Who Love You". I will say I love the album title and the simplicity of the album cover.
I hear a lot of hype about this album, but I am not sure it really clicked with me. The vocals sound of the time - sounding between Britt Daniel and Thom Yorke. I guess it kinda sounds like if T. Rex we're a 2000s indie band. That is to say it all sounds pretty derivative to me and, other than the arrangements themselves, nothing stood out.
Ughh
# Album Name: Yannkee Hotel Foxtrot # Artist: Wilco # Rating: 2/5 # Comments: Extremely average and underwhelming. I did not enjoy this one. # Top Tunes: None # Would I listen to it again? No
This is seriously dull for the most part and doesn’t really work for me. Some of the sounds are interesting, but can also come across as a bit twee. Some songs are a bit upbeat and inoffensive enough. But that's just it, it's all so soft and inoffensive. There’s no excitement to be found anywhere in here.
Sometimes clever lyrically, but I always hope for more from this group musically. There's just too often a kind of slow, plodding sameness to the songs.
The only Wilco I've listened to before this are the two Mermaid Avenue records with Billy Bragg. You know those bands that you think you should love but just don't. I think Wilco is one of those bands for me. There were a few songs that were nice to listen to but as a whole, it didn't grab me. Favorites: Pot Kettle Black (I think because the beginning sounds like In Between Days, my favorite Cure song) Would I listen to it again? No
An okay listen, but just kind of blends into the background noise of life.
Got into some of the grooves but generally much too dismal sounding, especially for an evening packing to leave after the holidays. Not my style
This was an album that really did not move me much. In some songs, I didn't really like the voice of the singer, but overall nothing was horrible.
Not for me.
Every Wilco song sounds like it belongs on a low budget teen angst movie soundtrack produced for Hallmark. Except for that one song where the chant WIL-CO over and over. That one just sucks.
Found this pretty dreary I'm afraid.
it was ok
The first song is practically unlistenable, which is a bad way to start an album. If you keep listening it gets better. But it’s trying to be too artsy with all the random noise cluttering the background.
Two stars
Wasn’t a big fan of this album. Somewhat boring for me.
This is like REALLY boring, but in a non-offensive, background kind of way.
Standard 2,4
Kinda noisy - grating at times
Oh man, I used to love Wilco. Alway conveniently situated in a town centre or local shopping district, I’ve lost count of the number of times they’ve got me out of a pickle with a reasonably priced plug extension or a roll of Gaffa tape. Maybe this was the beginning of the end? It is an odd choice to branch into middle of the road, soft guitar rock. It doesn’t seem to fit the brand to me at all. I don’t really see why it would be “widely regarded as one of the greatest albums of the 2000s”. It seems pretty dull to me. Come back and return to your origins as a discount general retail store. I miss you.
Wilco is one of those bands that I know I'm supposed to like, but haven't ever actually listened to. That said, it's fine. It sounds like it's recorded on a cheap mic set a bit too far away, which I don't really enjoy aesthetically. Still, there's a song or two in there that's not bad.
Good just not for me..
Take it or leave it
Not for me
Really liked the voice just didn’t find many songs that I was interested in returning to.
Oh Dear! On the first track it sounds like someone's trying to sabotage the track by randomly banging on a tin cup, and the rest of the album is not much better. Dreary, dull, and weird, but not in a good way. I didn't like it much, but I suppose I can manage two stars.
Indie ñoño. Cansino. Un 2.
Dull and uninspiring that tries to be quirky, but wore out its welcome well before the album was over. Just pretty generic sounding.
This is for people who don’t like good music to sound like they know what they’re talking about. Wilco is for posers
Fine
The Good:Recorded in the Windy City. The Bad: It has nothing to do with the Windy City. The Ugly: An album that lasts about 40 minutes too long… Wilco… wasn´t into them when they were current, and currently couldn´t be bothered. Annoying vocals, instrumentations okay, overall an album that can be skipped… 2* because I´m nice like that...
Sleepy generic sounding indie music
Wilco is another one of those bands that just doesn't do anything for me.
I reckon a second listen would help
Wtf is this, it’s like people rubbing instruments together instead of playing them. Gets a little better I guess No it sucks
Who do Wilco actually make music for? This is so boring and unengaging that I just can't understand why anyone was compelled to write and record it.
Am a fan of the band, especially Jeff Tweedy. But not so much of this album. I find it too boring and nothing like their earlier work.
This album was just boring from start to finish. When I got their album Being There, I thought it was about as average as it gets. Unfortunately Yankee Hotel Foxtrot manages to be an even more boring venture in to their catalog. At this point I’m good with never hearing another Wilco album again.
A real slog to get through. Not a big fan.
Maybe I need to be a certain mood to enjoy this but I was not in that mood today. Monotone man sing talks over very basic music that sometimes looses all structure and turns into nonsense. 4/10
It's either boring or irritating. Some listenable tracks but they don't redeem the album.
In high school I went to a taping of Late Night with Conan O’Brien and Wynona Rider was the main guest so Wilco, being her favorite band, was the musical guest. I thought they were terrible. This album isn’t quite as bad as that.
no strong feelings one way or another
I don’t get it. I keep thinking that one of these years I’ll get it, but I never do. The orchestration, the instrumentation, the production are all tremendous. But the thing is, the melodies themselves are boring af. Repetitive. Mr. Mangum is perpetually flat. And the lyrics: so depressing! Over and over again how he wants to die? So why am I listening? I’m not gonna deny that there is artistry at work here, but the end result is just joyless, and, as such, deeply not my personal aesthetic.
ai não vibei não
I've never understood the appeal if I'm honest. It's not for me.
I had this on CD, but wasn't able to remember any of it. Listening again, oh, so, dull. Where are those squealing guitars Wilco?
Gear: Meze 109 PRO Artwork: 🏙️🏙️ Mix: 👌 Musik: 🛌 Wertung: 😴😴/5
Decent enough listen
It's warm and tuneful but just feels like it's missing something?
1. "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart" A little pretentious, overall boring, lots of stupid noise stuff and off key piano lines. 2. "Kamera" Better than the first song, still has annoying noises. The singer just seems bored, and he should be, it's a boring song. 3. "Radio Cure" More stupid noise stuff, singer seems to still be very bored. Doinky piano scattered about. Lyrics are just pretentious nonsense. I'm so bored. 4. "War on War" More stupid noise stuff in the intro, followed by a much better song. Easily the best song by far. Unfortunately, more stupid noise stuff is scattered about. Outro way too long and unnecessary. 5. "Jesus, Etc." No stupid noise stuff, although they were stretching with some of the violin stuff. Decent, not great, don't need to hear it again. 6. "Ashes of American Flags" It just seems like they think it's way bigger than it is, it's not. It's not insightful or profound, just pretentious. Outro is stupid noise stuff. 7. "Heavy Metal Drummer" Hip hop drums start this one out. This song is so fucking lame. I want to murder this song with a butter knife to make the pain last. 8. "I'm the Man Who Loves You" 100% best song on the album so far. I give these guys a second chance based on this song. 9. "Pot Kettle Black" Another pretty good one. Seems like they went for the unconventional approach of bottom loading rather than top loading the album. 10. "Poor Places" Uh oh, more stupid noises... Ugh, the lyrics are so fucking pretentious. Terrible precussion. Awful piano. This is nonsense. Grabbed the butter knife. Stupid noise stuff again. 11. "Reservations" Stupid noises, bored singer, finishing like we started. It's so incredibly bad. Why won't it end? I would put a bullet in this one just so I didn't have to suffer. Fucking stupid noises in the outro.
Indie pop. I didn’t really care for it. I didn’t really like the vocalist, and nothing really excited me at all about this album. Some of the slower parts were okay I guess.
This was kind of a downer. I did like Heavy Metal Drummer and Pot Kettle Black though.
First listen Saved 4/11 Top track: Jesus, Etc.
Ok album. Not a big fan.
A nice varied assortment of boring indie songs
Jesus, etc. Reservations Otherwise forgettable album
6/11/24. I don't know, I know this album and Wilco is loved by a lot of people, but this style doesn't connect with me. Songs are decent, just unsure about the lyrics and genre.
2,5/3
eh whatever
Bravo Oscar Romeo India November Golf.
Meh. I liked this back in the day but these days it leaves me pretty cold.
I was so bored during this (2nd) Wilco album that I decided to look at the 1001 book and make sure it was the last - its not, still another to go :( As I said in my last Wilco review, I feel like I should like this with my taste in music, but I just don't - total snoozefest! I also was horrified to realised when I was looking at the book that there are ZERO Cranberries albums?! 3 Wilco and no Cranberries, how is that possible?
du rock/folk ben monotone 4/10
Pretty boring album, there's some decent songs in the middle but it starts off with nothing and ends with nothing, I was not impressed with most of the songs on this album
I’ve listened to this album a few times over the years because a lot of people whose opinions I respect love it, but it never quite landed. Was excited when it came up because I wanted to give it a close, attentive listen. My opinion hasn’t changed. It just doesn’t do it for me. Certainly not bad by any means, but just not my cup of tea.
Not really an album I’d come back to, but I was intrigued by some of the choices regarding instrumentation and production.
I don't know what to say about this album. It's alright but it's quite forgettable. I expected it to be a tad better. It's a blessing that Tweedy can sing unlike Tom Waits whose album I reviewed yesterday. The instrumentation is clever in places but it's not enough to stand out. 2 stars for this unremarkable album.
not good not bad i can see why people enjoy it I am just not one of those people. i don't like the lead singers voice.
Boring except for clocks
Can’t say I was captivated by this. I’d not listened to Wilco beef, not sure I’ll be rushing back to listen to them again.
Fine
This was alright. Kind of boring, but generally this isn’t a genre I love. Okay for what it was but I wouldn’t listen to it again.
not impressed
Meh. Pleasant enough but absolutely nothing that grabs the attention and keeps it. Derivative and unexciting.
It was okay, a few enjoyable tracks though!
Indie dos anos 2000. Achei meio parado. Lembra radiohead e um pouco de blur. Primeira impressão: não gostei muito não. Tem uma ou duas mais músicas mais "conhecidas"
hani jetzt nöd so gfühlt
Kamera Jesus, Etc. I’m the Man Who Loves You Reservations Knowing this album was supposed to be put out on 9/11 makes this very interesting to listen to
It’s a Dinosaur Jr. 45 slowed down to 33.
Vast catalog
Nothing to say except that I’m thankful it’s over.
Monging out music. But too boring for me.
Wilco is described as an American rock band. However, I have got more rock in my little toe. This is a slow and boring album. War on war is the first time you hear anything remotely close to rock, and that's 15 minutes into the album It doesn't even kick off from then it goes back to being slow and dull. Feel like this is what you would gey if you ordered a radio head album from wish If you want an album to send you to sleep, then this is probably it. If you want to listen to good music, then look elsewhere. Thankfully I haven't got to listen to this ever again
I thought it was Beck at first. I quite liked Radio Cure and I'm The Man Who Loves You but overall a bit too nice for me. No need to ever hear it again.
This is the first time I've (knowingly) listened to a Wilco record, and I've played this three times now. The main impression I have is an album of pretty samey songs which are pretty dull. This isn't an album that challenges the listener, it's all rather smooth pop that in my view doesn't really distinguish itself. So I'd say it'd pretty average. I don't perceive a stand-out track here, but then again nothing's particularly awful.
no huge moment that would make me listen again, was ok as background noise
Meh, OK I guess
Languid indie rock
It was ok, sort of a modern old timey feel. Didnt hold my interest but was fine.
Very meh in ways I can't describe. I'm ok with moaning on a guitar, but this ain't it. 2* I was glad when I got to the last song, then realized I had the album on shuffle so I have no idea what I did/didn't listen to, so I went back to the top. Bahhumbug.
Tiene algunas canciones que están bien, pero bastante aburrido en general
I don't really like this one. found it a lil boring. Maybe I missed something Will I listen to again: 1%
Just a lot of noise
Mid. Too slow for me, I don't get the hype
Was a sleeper. I didn't really hear anything I especially liked, and a lot of it just sorta passed me by. I thought it was alright though. 2.49/5
Very “meh” on this one. It wasn’t necessary bad, I just didn’t really care for it. There were some interesting parts, but most of it just didn’t click with me. 2.5/5
I was hopeful, but this was not my jam.
Usually I give albums that are an hour of whiny bullshit wailing by the lead singer an automatic 1 because usually the group put as little thought into the instrumentation as they did the lyrics. This album is an exception. As annoying as the singing was, I thought the rest of the music was actually pretty good and creates a lot of interesting mood. I think it lives up to its reputation as art rock. Don't get me wrong, this album still sucks due to an unbearable front-man, but I won't give it a 1 either.
No me gustó
Meh vond vooral 1 liedje leuk
Standout Tracks: I Am Trying to Break Your Heart, Jesus etc., & Reservations Overall album is 4 out of 10
When this album came out XPN played the hell out of it. I liked Jesus etc. and Heavy Metal Drummer so I bought the album. Listened to it a couple times and, years later, when I left my ex I didn’t lament not getting this CD in the split. Still like those two songs. The rest are too long, too “look at me” experimental, or just not interesting enough. Songs added to Spotify: 1
It’s Wilco! <sigh>
Kinda weird and a lil depressing
Kjedeliiiig
I've heard of Wilco many times, but have never listened to anything of theirs. And I'm not going to lie, I had trouble getting through this album. The best part about the music on this album is all the strange, weird, and experimental sounds and noises. There were plenty of unique parts and snippets throughout the song. I'd much rather hear those than Tweedy's voice....very boring and most of the time emotionless (and sometimes out of tune). I did enjoy the following tracks: Kamera, Jesus, Etc., Heavy Metal Drummer, and I'm the Man Who Loves You.
Meh
Trök
Melancholy much?
Pretty boring. Didn't love it.
Harmless, just not my thing.
Didnt finish it, was OK but not great
i am trying to break your heart - there's almost hints of brilliance kamera - neat jesus, etc. - i can understand the charm heavy metal drummer - yep cool drumz i'm the man who loves you - annoying not quite my thing but i'm glad i heard it, its like on the edge of me liking it lol, it gets super boring at the end though
Muy poquito. Musica muuuy trancu que hasta se torna aburrida.
It feels a little unfair, but for whatever reason, this album rubbed me the wrong way today. It struck me as aggressively mediocre. I can’t say it was bad, but it annoyed me enough that I’m going with my gut and giving it a low score.
Soft rock, relaxing but not many great songs, definitely no bad ones though.
Someone described Wilco as American Radiohead, and that is a very accurate representation of what's going on on this record. Super weird indie rock. Nothing of note happens on this album. It's all horribly beige. It took me 2 days to finish the album simply because it is so fucking boring. I hate Radiohead, and have similar feelings towards Wilco. Favourite songs: "Jesus, Etc.", Kamera, I'm The Man Who Loves You Least favourite songs: I Am Trying To Break Your Heart, Radio Cure, Poor Places, Reservations 2/5
There's one or two good songs and a few nice ideas, overall though its rather monotonous and not for me.
i didn’t like this album, it’s unimpressive and boring. a couple songs (“kamera”) weren’t that bad, and i used to listen to “heavy metal drummer” in high school. the rest of them (“radio cure,” “poor places,” “reservations”) were so hard to get through.
First couple songs were great. Overall average album
Pretty boring and no songs caught my ears. Very boring and monotonous.
Estructuras poco convencionales de sonido monótono o repetitivo, me parece agotador. Las letras son difíciles de entender.
I wasn't familiar with their work, bit boring.
boring AF
Started with a horrible impression, got a bit better, then finished with a horrible impression. I enjoyed some of the quirkiness, and I appreciate them utilizing some uncommon musicianship and stylings, but the album was a bit of a drag overall. Fav tracks: Jesus, Etc., Heavy Metal Drummer, I'm The Man Who Loves You
Indie, roquito sem grandes efeitos. Quase fofo.
Very dull.
Not a fan.
I never understood this album. Not all that interesting to me.
Just sounds like a well shitter Radiohead
BRITPOPBRITPOPBRITPOP Godverdomme.
Not great, kind of forgot I had it on to be honest
ngl the first track bored me. it worried me about the rest of the album. It's not really my type of vibe, but I can appreciate it. I think there's a lot to be said for the varied instrumental elements, but I felt that the tempo wasn't my speed until Heavy Metal Drummer. Pot Kettle Black and Jesus, Etc. were my favorites. I can see why this got so much acclaim, and I think it would be a great fall album if I had any connection to it.
I know people love Wilco and I’ve tried in the past to get into them. I love a lot of adjacent bands to them and I even like some of Tweedy’s stuff in Golden Smog but this was such a drain. It just bores me.
Wilco isnt for me. It was fine but forgettable, no real standouts
argh.....well layered but not my thing so far
Very sleepy album. Was not feeling it. I'm the Man Who Loves You, and Pot Kettle Black weren't bad. Just not a fan.
They’re trying something here that just doesn’t hit right for me. There’s some parts of this album that I find myself nodding along to, but there’s also a lot of discordance for the sake of being discordant. It’s not a tedious listen, but I really wanted this album to be 20-25 minutes shorter.
This was so dreadfully boring I could only get through 4 songs. The singer’s voice is dull and unispired.
#31. This one is pretty standard hipster rock fare. Decent enough I suppose if you're into that kind of thing. There isn't anything offensively bad about it, but I'm not on nearly enough drugs for you to convince me it's good either. 2/5: meh
Easy listening, a bit unique in places, a bit annoying in others
Had some good tunes. I can see how it influenced contemporary alternative/indie, but I couldn’t just get into it.
Not great.
Such a lazy insipid album. I'll never understand the adoration of Wilco fans for this music. Poor Places seems like the highlight of the otherwise lackluster album. But even here the vocals seem uninspired and everything is just downbeat and dreary.
Vocals are more bland than grits with no additives. Get a new vocalist.
I'm Trying To Break Your Heart. Pink Floyd - Time
I could not make it through this album. The lead singer's voice drones like a dying man.
If you remove all the production, the layered strings and reverb and sound effects, what you're left with is this kind of milquetoast singer-songerwriter sound. But of course you can't remove all that, because it's part of the album. I mistakenly read a 1-star review of this album before listening that called it boring, setting up my expectations (and expectations are everything) Unfortunately, I think I probably agree. I don't feel worse-off for having listened to this album but it didn't really do anything for me.
This is... not a great album. I wouldn't listen to it again voluntarily. It kinda works as noise in the background.
There was one song I liked, with a melodic lilting melody. Overall- his voice was nasally and the music was meandering. It could mesh into something really enjoyable, but just didn't.
Nette Stimme, neue Klangarten.
Oli taustalla kun pelasin civiä eikä jääny mitään oikein mieleen
boring didn’t finish
2/5 very soft and light. instrumental, naah
Too artsy fartsy
Psychedelic bis Indie Rock. Bleibt gleichförmig ereignislos. Erinnert teils wenig glaubhaft an die Melodie von Yellow von Coldplay.
inoffensive but kinda whatever
Super, super meh
Catching up on missed albums. Having just listened to Wilco's other album on the list (Being There), I thought I best get this one out the way too. Ripping the plaster off, so to speak. I'm sure in a different life, I may have enjoyed Wilco, but unfortunately today they bore the tits off me! The only interesting thing I found was that this album was released a week after 9/11, and it's got two towers on the artwork. 1.5
Listened to it because it was on the list. Gave it a second listen just to be sure I wasn’t distracted the first time around. Boring and repetitive. I am not particularly drawn to this type of music, but I can appreciate it if it’s good. This is not.
Boring.
Eh, didn’t love it. Lyrics are fine but didn’t move me/speak to me, so I think I’m not the audience for this album
Meni huti tämäkin, ei erityistä huomioitavaa
I literally listened to this only one day before writing this, and I don't remember it at all. Slid directly off my brain.
2.5 just can't get into them
Seems to be a fairly popular album, but I'm not quite sold. Sounds a bit like a mix between Radiohead and Eliott Smith, but especially Radiohead are way better in my opinion. I think overall there's not enough interesting stuff going on, quite bland in general so to speak. 'Jesus, Etc.' was quite a cool song, changes sounds completely with violins and everything. But other than that it wasn't for me.
Certainly unique, with great lyricism, but I was quite bored with the exception of the final two tracks.
NFM
I hadn't heard of this band or album before, but Angus had! If LCD Soundsystem and Radiohead had a bad Brooklyn warehouse band baby, this album would be the result. Easy listening, but nothing that exceptionally stuck out for me - it was the perfect album to listen to while writing my syllabi for the fall (slow, long and boring😂)! I also didn't realise I was listening to the deluxe edition and was confused as to why this album was 3 hours long lol Fave song: War on War Honorable mention: honestly none, War on War was the only one that made me look up and check the name of the song lol
There are a few songs in here that definitely click for me, such as I Am Trying to Break Your Heart and War on War. But a large majority of the album falls too far down the Indie rabbit hole for my liking...I prefer when it's closer to Alternative on that spectrum. Too much dreamscape, moaning singing voice feel for me. Favorite track: War on War
Having read the Wikipedia blurb, I was expecting more than I got.
I learned that this isn't the band for me. I didn't find this album engaging.
fine?
I never quite got the hype around this one. It's all right, but it's also kinda boring? I don't think the noise experiments work very well, and this is coming from a guy who likes his noise. There are a couple of ok songs, but ultimately, I couldn't wait for it to end. love the cover, though
How is this influencial. Boring
Meh
I spent most of the album feeling like it was generic apathetic indie. That said, by the end it was starting to grow on me a little bit.
Meh, there's only room for one pavement
Steve loved it. I thought voice depressing and instruments discordant though I liked the last three songs not enough yo push it up to 3
Didn't do much for me, some of it sounded good but it mostly faded into the background
I was yearning for this one to end
Insipid rather than insidious? On first play I found little of inspiration. Third of fourth time through I'm warming a little but it still kind of fades into the background an is hard to concentrate on. Not actually offensive though. Great album for doing something else to. (Not to say I won't someday love it.)
What a weird album. There are some utterly dismal dirges on here that make you question your ability to stomach listening interspersed quite liberally with some actually quite fun upbeat stuff. Were there fewer utterly awful bouts of pure misery, this would probably get much more attention from me.
Hay otros discos de Wilco que me gustan, pero no este. Curiosamente es el más alabado unánimemente, pero a mi me aburre.
Not a bad album, just nothing that grabs my attention.
I Am Trying to Break Your Heart, War on War, Jesus, Etc, Heavy Metal Drummer (best song), and I’m the Man Who Loves You. This wasn’t Trentcentric. Boring as fuck besides these songs. ^ I don’t care about this. 5/10
your granny with dementia thinks this is nirvana. it's just a long stream of depressing rock music with nothing to latch on to. it got a tiny bit better at the end. overall, it made me feel bad and not in a good way. pot kettle black
A few good songs but mostly very boring. 2.5/5 FS: Jesus, Drummer, I'm the Man
Tylsää peruspoprockindietä, ei oikein muuta sanottavaa. Paitsi hittibiisi Jesus etc. toki toimii tosi hyvin
Album #3 Indie rock is really not a genre I find a lot of interest in so this really didn't do much for me. I feel like I have heard these same drowsy vocals on pretty much every other indie rock album I've given a listen. Most of the album feels like a blur to me and I really cant remember any interesting or intriguing moment. Overall it was a pretty boring couple listens but it wasn't insultingly bad to deserve the lowest score. Favorite Track: I'm the Man Who Loves You
average folk rock, nothing much extra to write home about. All the songs sound the same. 2 stars at best
Tweedy's vocal delivery kept me from enjoying this one. Kotche's unorthodox percussion was interesting, though. Still not really a songs kind of guy.
Didn't finish this one, it's one boring.
Dinosaur Jr. but boring and somehow more nonsense lyrics. Very meh album
Maybe 1 or 2 ok songs on the album
Not awful but it sounds like plain porridge tastes. A few zaps and a bit of disortion doesn't do enough to make this album genuinely interesting. He sounds like a boring Thom Yorke. Not "one of the best albums of the noughties". 2.5
Meh
eh
I just fucking can't, this is for 40 year old happy people.
Mostly boring
I’m not sure how I avoided Wilco for so long. But I wasn’t missing much. This album feels like it should exist in a world of gray. Boring and dull for the most part. I did like Jesus, Etc. but everything else was very meh.
Not really my jam, kinda bland and boring 🤷♂️
Yeah it's just not my band. I don't like gentle kinda underspoken poem songs. I tried to listen twice, but it just made me angry. For sure they have some catchy melodies on occasion, but on the whole, I never found a groove.
Bit whiny in places. Tries hard, but fails.
Kennelijk is die Wilco zo belangrijk dat een tweede album van hem in de lijst moest. En dan meteen ook maar achter de vorige aan. Helaas is 's mans werk niet interessant genoeg om twee platen achter elkaar te boeien.
Artsy and boring.
Track 1- Disturbing Track 2 starts as bad but improves Track 3 is basically Radiohead, I can't really complain Track 4 just existed I guess. really nothing special. The music was good but didn't go with the lyrics Track 5 was quite cool, relaxed Track 6 was very depressing- then very strange at the end Track 7- was more upbeat this time, a good track Track 8 is pretty good, I don't mind it Track 9- Also pretty decent icl Track 10 Was a bit weird, especially at the end Track 11- Very, Very, Strange...
Like an American Radiohead but worse. A boring album that's not noteworthy but it got insane production. Very auditory pleasant with a pair of good headphones even though the songs are a snooze. Couldn't wait for the album to end. Still 2/5 as I've heard worse on the 1001 album list. And this is the second Wilco album? Wow I don't even remember listening to the other one as it was so forgettable. I don't know why they're on the 1001 album list. Maybe it's explained in the book.
Quite boring
The previous Wilco album lacked cohesion. This one is better in terms of cohesion, but I'm not really a fan of the sound on this album.
Didn't really excite me all that much
Always found Wilco to be a bit of a bore.
so fucking boring
Fun
Mest gnöl och gnäll. De är så mycket bättre när de spelar med Billy Bragg.
00’er indierock, nogle af numrene er gode nok, lidt kedeligt overall
never really been a big fan of wilco and this album didn't change my beliefs. but ya know, it was fine! a fine listen. a few songs i (irrationally) actively dislike playing at the starbucks down the road type beat
Some very creative melodies and well done instrumental parts, but the singer really sounds like he doesn't want to be there. I give Tweedy 2 tickets to somewhere warm and sunny, so he can refresh and cheer up a bit, and hopefully come back sounding a bit more... alive. 🎫🎫
2 Man, this one was kinda boring. It’s indie pop alternative and it all sounds the same to me. Occasionally they flirt with doing some cool stuff but they ultimately devolve back into the “one-and-two-and” rhythms that get old sooo fast. Favorites: War on War, Jesus. etc
This album is so boring. I could count on my hand what I liked about the album.
I will listen again, but slightly humdrum and not as special as I was expecting
2 (2-3 just like the previous one, but I already rated that one with a 3)
I've never quite understood the appeal behind this band and specifically this album. Taking a standard indie rocker and adding some mildly off-kilter samples does not a coherent genre epic make.
Wilco is an American Rock band. This is their 4th Album. They have three appearances in the 1001 Albums list (including collaboration with Billy Bragg). This is definitely a more mellow album compared to other Wilco songs I've heard. Some may call it boring.... I just think you need to spend more time with it to appreciate it. This is my first listen, and my first impression is positive and I look forward to spending more time getting to know it better. Standouts: I Am Trying To Break Your Heart, Radio Cure, War on War, Heavy Metal Drummer, Rating: 2.5/5
Btec Radiohead
Rock alternativo. Raruno.
Ehh. Nothing particularly awful about this album but also nothing that grabs you and doesn't let you go. So interesting instrumentation. I give it a solid 2.
Another one of those apparently super hip and cool records. I'm obviously not hip and cool because it just didn't do it for me.
Was leaning to giving it 3 stars, then realised it had stopped playing about 10 minutes ago, and I hadn't even noticed... so it's a 2 for me.
I do not care for Wilco. It is all indie music. None of it was memorable. It is not recommended listening. I did not skip any songs. It is probably less than a 2 but I will round up.
All just a bit bland TBH
Yeah, een band met "chip music" erin verwerkt. Doet me denken aan Ladytron. Het geluid klinkt soms wat onzuiver (vervorming) en de zang voelt ook niet altijd zuiver (stabiel). Verder wel ontspannen muziek met iets duisters dat mijn interesse wekt. **
Was excited to see a modern band I recognize. Not a fan of this album. Lots of screechy guitar, long songs. Really guitar heavy. I like heavy metal drummer. Knew it before this.
Bit boring
Blah
Nee, sorry Wilco.
Dreary indie album is dreary
This isn't truly bad, but its only real definable trait is that it's bland. Meandering indie rock is already boring by definition, but this really drives the point home. 2/5.
Best Song: Radio Cure. A slow but thoughtful pace that had enough of a forward-facing, driving tempo to keep it interesting. Worst Song: Heavy Metal Drummer. This song stuck out for me. After all the slower tracks that preceded it, I didn't believe that they wanted to play this fast. It felt coerced. Overall: Music I've never heard before that sounds like a lot of music I've already heard. Not bad, not memorable.
Nah.
Sadness dripped in melancholy.
Not very good, trying to be a spacey psychadelic thing, I think? Not a good sign I am not sure.
Not unpleasant but just didn’t grab me so a hard 2*
Didn't really interest me. Meant to go back and listen again over the weekend but forgot which speaks volumes...
Indie ñoño. Cansino. Un 2.
Discretamente noioso.
Didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I might. A bit too indie "minimalist" for me. Didn't have quite the bite or substance I was looking for.
Bland muzak
Interesting sound style from this group….
It was ok
Songs all start off promising enough, then the sleepy-voiced singer comes in and they start layering way too many things on top and mid way through it just turns to generic rock-mush. Potentially a good live band if they got a jam going, but doesn't seem to work in this format. Nothing much to the lyrics or themes, so not sure why they were so famous for a while. Maybe I'm missing something here.
Leiðinlegur söngvari
Again, I sidestepped this album at the time it came out due to overly slavish Wilco fans. I am finally warming to the band, I swear but my immediate reaction to listening to them is to be reminded of another band and go listen to them instead. For example, Heavy Metal Drummer is the best song that Pavement never wrote (I actually though it was a Steve Malkmus solo effort when I first heard that song). Did I enjoy it? Sure Was it good? A bit twee in places but yeah it was good I can't say I will ever become a dyed in the wool fan like I am with Big Star, Belle and Sebastian and the Replacements but Wilco are finally starting to grow on me
The guitar screeching at the end of each song is enough for me not to like this.
Pretty forgettable honestly
Time to give this album ANOTHER try. The first track is pretty good, but the rest of this album is pretty meandering and dull. It's ambitious for Wilco, but Wilco are a boring band to begin with, and their best work is when they are just trying to make simple, poppy country rock. Their entire career sits in the shadow of The Byrds' Sweetheart of the Rodeo.
I found a lot of the songs on here dull and unimpressive. Some moments were alright, but those were the minority in my opinion. I liked some of the lyrics. I don't love the vocals. They're not bad, just so very average, and the singer often sounds bored. I feel like this is the kind of music people make when they want to express themselves, but aren't actually talented in any way.
Another not-great album from the early-00s. Schmaltzy and overwrought.
Found this quite a boring listen. Though liked "Radio Cure".
typical early 2000's indie. I might have liked this when I was younger, but now not much a fan
Týpískt early 2000s eitthvað. Ekkert sérstakt. Kveikti ekki í mér.
Can never get lazy, hollow sound or voices. Probably add a star for the last track Reservation.
A collection of sonic sketches.
actually i didn’t like it. there were really annoying noises and the singing was so flat. it was boring and just not interesting to listen to
Bastante raro. Me gusta que sea un disco tranquilo, pero le falta bastante. Puntuar del 1 al 5 es bastante malo, debería ser del 1 al 10. Es un 5.
Не зашло
3/10 - Yawn fest
Eh.
Slow songs
Enjoyed it in parts but rather forgettable and unlikely to revisit
I might need to listen again to understand the specific appeal. Perhaps you had to be there.
Not a big fan
This album is not something that I would come back to. The songs scream the message "I am an artist, therefore I must be damaged" which created a pretty annoying listening experience for me. There were a lot of elements that just didn't fit together. It wasn't the worst thing I've heard so far, but it don't think it's better than a 2.
2.5. Great artistry but way to sad for my taste. One of the hooks was "i'm gonna break your heart." Novel writing and everything but yes i was ultimately left sad when i finished listening.
Painfully boring at the beginning and end of the album. Like listening to paint dry. There’s a few good songs in the middle, namely “Jesus Etc.” and “Heavy Metal Drummer” but there’s not enough there to revisit this album for me. I think it’d be a lot more listenable without all the 7 minute “art rock” tracks.
No idea who they are. Nice start. Oh? Nice imperfect voice. Lyrics are meh :( first song is so long ugh. Second song i dont like. Some songs in the middle sound nice: war on war, jesus etc, ashes of american flags, im the man who loves you, pot kettle black. A 2 cause the songs/parts of songs i dislike i dont absolutely hate. I can say i like some parts of it but i wouldnt even replay those songs i mentioned to reconsider. Some of those parts i like remind me of some chill parts in rainbows which obviously came out later. Maybe a 2.5? Eh.
I listened to this and now I can't remember a thing about it.
Definitely alternative
Not my cup of tea.
None of the songs really did anything for me. It was kinda slow and boring, and had weird, random "avante-garde" parts that I didn't like.
Meh
Meh... Pretty dull, prob needs a lot of listens to fully appreciate
I've heard the philosophy of life and had trouble listening to this one O_O
white boy music
Not a big fan
Not for me
Boring berks
hard to listen
This is my second Wilco album I've come across on this list. I don't think it's as bad as the other one but it's boring. It's like 90s alternative without the urgency. Imagine REM sitting around one day and say, "maybe we should try writing some slow songs for once?" That would be this. It doesn't get a single star because the singer doesn't sound bad and the music is ok. Just a album full of boring. Even the band hates it. I'd like to ask the author what this did for music to warrant being on this list?
Eh
A little too mellow for me. Though if I block out the vocals the instrumental portion is nice to listen to when wanting to relax.
interesting, but not quite right for me.
Sí sí, pero no.
