Great Start, lacklustre finish
The seminal Santana album. Found a few I didn’t realize were as good as they were.
That was fun.
Good album, the first of many. Considering i never did listen to santana it was good.
My Dad is a big Santana fan so I have a bit of nostalgia points for this. I certainly enjoyed Black Magic Woman / Gypsy Queen and Oye Como Va.
eventhough i dont like it, i cannot deny its a good mostly instrumental album combining different genres to a complete whole
have not liked Santana in the past so was surprised how much i liked this. much more jazz like then i ever expected
Conflicted feelings on this one but overall it’s solid
Very good, not exactly what I expected, but I really enjoyed it
When I first heard this album in the 70's, as sad as it was, this was probably the first time I heard any Latin rock. I know, I wasn't exposed to a lot of diverse music in my youth, but with the help of film footage and music from Woodstock (etc), I knew who Santana was. This record has some absolute classic essential tracks on it that everyone has heard and hearing it today, it's still timeless music! The rest of record isn't bad either!
A very enjoyable listen. The combination of latin rhythms, jazz and hard rock (and Carlos Santana's virtuoso guitar) works really well, especially on Oye Como Va, to me the standout track on the album. Black Magic Woman and Samba Pa Ti are the obvious crowdpleasers on here, but I think every track stands up - there are no fillers.
I've actually never listened to an entire Santana album, but I really enjoyed this!
I always had an aversion to Santana due to his collaboration with Rob Thomas (Matchbox 20) which never sat right with me. But due to exposure from my father-in-law my ears have been more open to it. Was pleasantly surprised with listening through on this album.
Black Magic Woman
Santano, polako sa tim pokretima, zatrudnit ćeš gitaru!
Expected an ok album with just 2 famous hits. Instead heard an impressively cohesive album that innovates in an inviting way. From the sound of it, they're a bluesy jam band that incorporates Latino percussion (and guitar play and singing in the first few tracks) and jazz fusion in several others. The production is fantastic. It's psychedelic in its echoey sound and smooth transitions between tracks. As a fan of bands like Malo and Chicago, blending Latino and jazz without sounding rough around the edges is one way to keep me engaged. Unfortunately, they mostly abandon both genres in the second half, with "El Nicoya" teasing us. Still, all the tracks have something to offer. After out 2 big hits, "Incident at Neshabur" goes big on jazz, and "Se a Cabo" on instrumental hard Latino rock (with some jazz). "Mother's Daughter" is the bluesiest jam track, but a really good one at that. "Samba Pa Ti" is a softer jam track with Latino percussion, a pleasant listen. Finally, "Hope You're Feeling Better" is a psychedelic jam piece, also really decent.
Love Santana! This isn't my fave of their albums but Oye Como Va is SUCH an undeniable fucking banger!!! WHAT a tune.
Honestly so close to giving this a 5 star but it is hard to know when to save them for the super special things. It is 100% a 4.5 though, what let it down was just one slightly meandering song. Absolutely LOVED listening to this, did 2 rounds back-to-back and enjoyed it so much. The mix of slow and sexy, fun and up beat, relaxing and tranquil, mix of genres. SO great
Yes maaaaaaate, such a sound. Love it
Love it!
Goodness me, that's quite a lot of art on the cover. So many things to look at. Honestly, I can't look away. I hope this album sounds like it looks! A h, yes, I've always had quite a soft spot in my heart for Oye Como Va. Besides Black Magic Woman I was not previously familiar with the songs on this album. Incident at Neshabur was a particular highlight, but really I enjoyed it all.
beautiful!
This was a great listen. Love Santana's guitar.
Carlos Santana is an unbelievable guitarist but I don’t need to tell you that. His riffs are incredible but personally I can’t give this a 5 only because listening to this straight through wasn’t my ideal jam. Still, a great album!
Album was too short, so many great tunes.
Brilliant. 4/5 Standouts: Black Magic Woman, Oye como Va, Samba Pa Ti, Hope You're Feeling Better.
8/10. Quite good
Solid from start to finish.
It was bloomin great. Oye Como Va, Samba Pa Tiand Black Magic Woman are all absolutely brilliant and all on my summer BBQ playlist now. The rest is all solid, Latin grooves, some great keyboard (Rhodes I think?) Leading everything, with Santana's lovely smooth distortion zipping over it. Absolutely lovely.
This was very good ol' Santana is pretty good at the guitar it turns out
Latin-flavoured, mostly instrumental rock with a 70s touch. Nice flow for background listening, though I have to be in the mood for this cuban-style kind of music. 3.5/5
A great Santana album. I really appreciate the use of vocals in the album. Without any, it would feel a little dry, but they use just enough to keep things interesting while still letting Carlos Santana's guitar work speak for itself. Some instantly recognizable songs on this album. Would definitely listen again!
Santana is the Michael Jackson of guitar players. You have to hear one of his albums in its entirety. You don’t have to like it, just listen. (7/10) FT: Oye Como Va, Black Magic Woman, Samba Pa Ti
03/13/2022 Psychedelic rock with out-of-this-word guitar work.
Rock latino con la guitarra de Santana. Me ha cansado un poco. Un 4.
An old favorite of mine growing up. My opinion on it has cooled a bit, but it’s still lovely to go back and revisit!
Oh that guitar playing. So damn good. I'm sure there are better guitar players from a technical perspective, but not many that can play with such feeling. Samba Pa Ti in particular is incredibly beautiful. Great album. 4 stars.
han er jo virkelig god til guitar
Damn good stuff
franchement une vibe
what a MONSTER rhythm section - hard driving, with a great swing in the grooves. the whole album sounds like sunshine - the happy side of the hippy dream
spacey latin grooves with a tendency to over-widdle
Good vibes, Santana’s guitar lines are excellent.
Not as guitary as I was expecting. Very groovy, of course. Bit bothered that most of the songs with English lyrics are of the 'evil woman' school.
Solid drug music
Absolutely love Santana and was looking forward to this one. Unfortunately, it seems like this is pretty much his weakest record. The three opening songs in particular are rather weak (especially the massively overrated Oye Como Va). From Incident at Nashbur on the album was pure fire however, right up to the outro which was a bit of a stinker again. I'd really like to give this a 4.5. The amazing parts are absolutely amazing and tracks 4-8 are a straight 5. But tracks 1/3/9 are a 3 at best. Rounding this down because Santana really can (and did) do better than Abraxas.
Lots of great drums to sample!
I have heard "Black Magic Woman" and "Oye Cómo Va" from this album, and a few other tracks from Santana many times before. This might be my first listen to a full album from the band. My favorite tracks may have been the instrumental tracks (from beginning to end), but I liked every track. An easy 4 stars.
Not sure how much the cover art influenced my decision to pull this out the Electric Fetus record store’s used bin back in 1984, but I’m pretty sure it factored into the decision. Cool riffs from Carlos throughout - love the pop songs, and the rest is good too.
Hard to top songs like Oye Como Va and Black Magic Woman when you put them at the start of the album. That being said, Carlos Santana is one of the greats. Super solid record. Give it a listen
Pretty good. Would listen again
Really Sets the tone of the album with the opener. The wind chimes and piano before Santana's guitar comes in sounding like a siren. He just has a great feel for his instrument and backed by an awesome band focusing on a lot Spanish Style rhythms, makes you want to shakes your ass a little bit.
Listening to Santana makes you want to dance all night long beachside with a margarita in one hand as Santana's band played on till early at dawn.
Didn't have the time that I'd like to focus and listen a few times but I enjoyed the time I had with this album today. Great guitar, organ, and percussion. I particularly liked Mother's Daughter.
This album contains multiple classic Santana songs that I was unaware are on the same album. Of the lesser known songs, I enjoyed "Hope You're Feeling Better." The whole album is enjoyable. There's really not a single song I'd want to skip. It's also very classic Santana. A very worthwhile listen.
Great Latin fusion, groovy and soulful. Classic Santana guitar work
One of those never aging classic albums I can always go back and listen to (which I often do).
Beautiful
Unique sound. What a talent, the fusion of styles outstanding.
3.75
Nice, but mostly background music.
Surprised that I didn't listen to this one sooner. I was introduced to Santana by the song Smooth which was probably not the best. This was a lot more fun than his 1999 release, Supernatural.
An absolute classic. The rhythmic percussions and hypnotic guitar combine to make this album an escape from everything else around you.
I shouldn't assume my childhood tastes are the same as my adult tastes. I went into this with memories of childhood listens and the thought "Okay 3-stars, let's get this over with". I was so wrong. I'm toying with the idea of giving this a 5-star, but it isn't quite perfect.
Groovy
Really good instrumental and melody in the album. Moved my body while listening to the album.
I was glad to see Santana on the list as I have always enjoyed his music, albeit more from a singles perspective. Abraxas is no exception with two great singles that I have loved for 40 years. The rest of the album is good from largely an instrumental perspective, and makes for great background music. This is where I wish a 10 point system was being used because I would give it a 9. As it is, it isn’t quite a 10.
Genuinely a little surprised by how much I liked this album. For an album clearly recorded to be listened to whilst high, none of the songs stayed around too long and flowed nicely.
In my late teens and twenties, I listened to Santana with some frequency, and saw them in concert a couple times. I can't quite explain why, but in the decades since I just kind of lost interest in them, while other bands I listened to from both that era and genre in music and time in my life are still interesting to me. I suppose that's a reflection of how personal tastes and interests wax and wane and evolve over time. Long windup for me to say that this is the first time in a long, long time I've listened to Santana. I enjoyed quite a few tracks on this one. Some truly great musicianship and performances. Glad I had the opportunity to listen to this all the way through.
Love the Latin beat!
Really interesting combination of 70s classic rock and more world music latin vibe. Great guitarwork and drumming throughout.
i hope spider dijon was on bongos for this album. i enjoyed this more than i was expecting.
some jams on here
Great jam band/background instrumental music.
Pretty great album, fusing rock, latin music, and jazz in a really coherent way. Closer to a 4.5
Shockingly accessible for a guitar driven album. The melodies felt familiar. Very listenable and enjoyable.
Absolute tunes.
The album starts strong but looses a bit of steam about halfway through. I still enjoyed it overall, although not as much as other Santana albums.
so groovy!
It's Santana. This album features THE classic Santana guitar tone, music style, level of expression, and so on. Not my absolute favourite so gets 4/5 but probably should get 5/5
Black Magic Woman and Oye Como Va, the main draws that gave this album worldwide acclaim, are good. Liking this Latin Rock. nice stuff.
Great instrumentals.
Black magic woman automatically makes it a 4, the rest of the album is good.
Like listening to a long, excellent jam session.
Bela capa Muito psicodélico
It was good. Had some songs I'd heard outside of this album but it's a good distillation of his work
Dude. It's fuffin Santana. No one compares with this artistry
Much more like it. Fantastic stuff from Santana. Love it.
Guitar-centric Similar electric organ/synths to Bitches Brew Same album artist did Abraxas as Bitches Brew
heeeeat
Black Magic Woman Samba Pa Ti!
really good. Bblackk mahgic Wohmaan
v v v good
This album highlights Santana as a solo act (still with his band), but without a parading group of featured artists. His iconic guitar soars as several of his more memorable tracks emerge from this record, in a much more polished effort from his debut.
Classic
The problem I always have with Santana is that the instrumentals always sound like they were designed to have a lyric, it's just been removed, or the track has remained unfinished. The vocal tracks are awesome though, and obviously the guitar is stunning throughout. This is a really good album to stick on while you're doing other things.
Oye Como Va Samba Pa Ti
some iconic songs for sure, but when I think of the actual album I just remember the part from A Serious Man where he doesn't want Columbia House to send him Santana Abraxas
Fantastic ! Nearly went for 5*
Really enjoyed this.
Nice relaxing rock
Good stuff
4/5
Buen disco
Freut mich sehr!
Would never of normally listened to this, but actually enjoyed the experience.
Good music to fuck to
Not too shabby
I wasn't expecting the majority of the album to be instrumental, but I enjoyed it a lot despite that. I could see myself putting this on in the background while I work.
some classics
I don’t quite think this should be a 4, but I went back and forth on going higher or lower and finally settled on giving it the four. There were plenty of cool songs on here and the others were solid jams, but not the most interesting. Solid album. Favorite track(s): “Black Magic Woman,” “Mother’s Daughter,” and “Hope You’re Feeling Better”
I really enjoyed this blend of Latin and rock music. And this was also pushed higher because I recently learned Santana is apart of ringos all star band which is pretty neat
Expertly played guitar. It's a shame I prefer drums.
It's a classic, and even though I'm no big fan of Santana's later output, I recognize he was at his most creative here.
this album rocks. Loved it
Music you can get lost in... A remarkable listen, with a good mix of straight-shooting hard rock and Latin jazz instrumental classics. Also nice that it’s short and sweet, and doesn’t prolong the fun. STANDOUTS: -Black Magic Woman / Gypsy Queen -Oye Como Va -Incident at Neshabur -Mother’s Daughter -Samba Pa Ti -Hope You’re Feeling Better
nyt kolisee hyvin, tykkään
Liked it a lot. Didn't know Black Magic Woman was covered in this album too. Really dug the soft instrumentals and the feel of the album as a whole. 8/10.
Songs: Mother's Daughter, Hope You're Feeling Better, Samba Pa Ti
Good Album! Knew a lot of the songs, just didn’t know they were all from the same album!
Great listen as smooth background music.
Good shit
This album showcases why Santana is considered one of the greatest guitarists ever. Giving mixes of jazz, rock, funk and of corse Latin dance rhythms. Most would be turned off by mixing of so many sounds in one album but for Santana it's a stage for how great his music really is. Transcending genres and remaining timeless.
I do like me some Santana!
str8 vibes 😎this was gOOd naked lady👌🏽
I can't believe I've never listened to this before. It was great.
heard alot of these tracks in passing (radio, random occurences) but man this guy knows how to make the guitar sing
Love the atmospheric instrumental opening. Really got lost in it. Kinda prefer the more instrumental passages throughout the album.
V chill
ohh lots of percussion and naki no guitar
Cool, classic rock, with a little Latin flair - exactly what I expect from Santana. Black Magic Woman is iconic.
The problem I always have with Santana is that the instrumentals always sound like they were designed to have a lyric, it's just been removed, or the track has remained unfinished. The vocal tracks are awesome though, and obviously the guitar is stunning throughout. This is a really good album to stick on while you're doing other things.
Lots of classics, my first real taste of Santana
Chill and vibrant, with many colors. Good background, didn't pay enough attention to songs with lyrics unfortunately.
I've listened to Black Magic Woman before, of course. "Accidentally", thanks to its reach, and on purpose a few times at least. It's a fine song if familiar. On Abraxas, its position in the tracklist does no favors. The harshest juxtapositions between rock and jazz are there, but they turn out to be evidence of the band dipping in and out of genre before weaving the rest of the tracks masterfully. There's a lot of range on the rest of the record, and as far as I can tell the keystone is the percussion, informing the electric instruments and blending in the jazzier elements. Fantastic playing and no drags.
I know I've heard this before and remember thinking it was pretty cool. Some cruisy Latin nonsense is just what I need to ease me through this morning's mild hangover. 4/5.
This has a nice chill bluesy vibe for the current hot weather but it didn’t really blow my mind. Wouldn’t object to listening to it again but it wouldn’t be me putting it on.
Pretty solid sound, but nothing too crazy
Not bad, always quite liked Santana and this hasn't moved the needle either way
I remember reading an interview with The Mars Volta years ago where they talked about the influence of Santana on their music. Having mostly known the dude through singles (especially the later-era resurgence singles), that made me no sense to me. Listening to this today, I get it. Very rhythmic, lots of percussion, not as much guitar solo-ing per se as I was expecting, but more interesting noodling and texturing. I will say that it felt like it was just ending right as I was REALLY getting into it. Especially with the last track being a one-minute throwaway, it would have been cool if the album were just a little longer. Good, though.
336/1089 quite enjoyed this one, it was pretty cool and relaxed. my rating feels a little low in a way but it’s one that i need to see if i return to it and it would likely go up in my ratings if i did 64/100
Enjoyed the instrumental, makes me think this is used in older movies :) such an awesome album cover!
Pretty cool album with the Latin influences. It's not something I'd come back to often but it's good. 6/10
I should like this more, but ...
Nothing much to say tbh. It was cool chill and stuff
Highlights: Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen, Oye Como Va, Se a Coba and Samba Pa Ti. 3.1
Great musicianship, most songs are ultimately forgettable. Would have been fun to see live
🎸🎶💃🏻🕺🏽🎉
I liked it.
it was a nice album to listen, diverse and easy to follow, not painful like others albums here 3,5/5
I didn't hate this nearly as much as I thought I would. Oye Como Va is a great tune but so incredibly overplayed.
6.5.26 General Thoughts: Very smooth and enjoyable. A nice variety of songs within the album, even though they do all cohere to a similar vibe. Some great jazz pieces. Favorite Song: Mother's Daughter Rating: 3.5/5
I liked it there were quite a few vibey ones.
mothers daughter was my favorite song. it was ok.
Funky!
Abraxas by Santana was pretty good. I liked the guitar and most of the instrumental to be honest I thought it was a lot stronger than the vocals. Overall not a bad album. Top three: Hope You’re Feeling Better, Black Magic Woman / Gypsy Queen, Oye Como Va
Significantly worse than Supernatural but still good.
A bit backgroundy.
Bit too instrumental, but it's chill. Very jazzy.
Pretty good. Heard this one a lot
I listened to this while making pasta salad and it was great cooking music. No song really stood out to me and I think I would have to listen to it again with more focus but I did enjoy what I heard.
Solid I enjoyed the lyricism and for someone who generally mostly listen to songs with lyrics the instrumental sections were still quite funky and fun. I’m a fan but don’t know that I’ll relisten later. 6.87. Glass of orange juice. When you want it it’s great but most of the time not a huge need
Sympa
Pretty okay
Good mostly instrumental rock
Kjedelig med nice bakgrunnsmusikk
3.5 defintely some groovy moments in there outside of the hits
Second side struggles to be as good as the first, but the first is so darn good, it is a lost cause.
“Mother’s Daughter” and “Hope You’re Feeling Better” rock. The latter especially. Great progressive rock album. I will be listening to more Santana. Listen using good quality audio to hear Santana’s guitar picking and also the other instrument separation. Really well recorded. Listened via Spotify lossless or FLAC if physical copies not available.
Sambafiilistelyä.

7/10 - Muito Bom!
This album mostly just washed over me. Fantastic guitar work throughout as one might expect from Carlos Santana. For an album that was a conscious effort to move away from the more cover-heavy sound of the first album, it's perhaps ironic that the stand out tracks are the covers of "Oye Como Va" and "Black Magic Woman." Which also makes the first half of the album much stronger than the second half, with "Hope You're Feeling Better" and "El Nicoya" becoming kind of a limp finale. Roughly half the album is in Spanish,.which I neither speak nor understand, but that doesn't really matter as the vocals are the least important thing here, regardless of language. Which is probably why the instrumentals work so well.
I knew some of this album, already being a fan of “Black Magic Woman”, “Oye Como Va”, and “Samba Pa Ti”. The rest of this album was very much in-line with that, but not as good. As much as I liked the pure instrumentals, it wasn’t clear where one song had begun and another ended. But, overall, this was a nice, relaxing album to play on a pleasant Friday evening.
This was ok.
Pretty cool High 3/5
Really great blues rock, just gets boring and repetitive after the 4th or 5th song
Decent experience, not so good but not bad either
Oye como va temazo
Some high points where he was channeling Hendrix but mostly too smooth to get excited
It was okay good vibes but not really memorable
Cool elevator music
so extremely competent and yet I find myself bored
not the vibe rn
Not the biggest fan of noodly psych but this exceeded (low) expectations - was kinda nice on a hot day.
7/10
Rökigt! Ljusår från vår generations ”Maria Maria”-santana. Stark 3a!
The three well-known hits stand out ("Black Magic Woman", "Oye Como Va", "Samba Pa Ti"). The rest of the album is not exactly my jam. 3,5
i've never actually listened to a santana album. this is probably his most famous. it's fine. the two big hits are the least interesting on the album, but "samba pa ti," possibly the third well-known song is still an outstanding listen. "incident at neshbaur" was a surprising instrumental of jazz chords over a standard rock arrangement. a really fun listen, that. "mother's daughter" is also a little gem. "hope you're feeling better" is some cool psych rock from the era.
not into latin rock but they did a good job with this
N/A didn’t listen yet and it won’t change it
bit wa wa woo wee for me
Some classic Santana kicks this one off. Good stuff
REALLY weird and so bipolar but I liked it
I have never liked Santana and black magic woman has always been a song that just irritates me. I was not looking forward to listening to this but I enjoyed it more than I thought and black magic woman played in full with the opening track was really good. It is a solid jam album. Its short and doesnt over stay its welcome and I imagine if i loved guitar solos this would jave been perfect.
Nice, but not my type of music. Nice Listen for bike ride in the sun. Love the guitar tho!
I liked the hits off the album, but I found the album hummed around a 2.5 for me. I'll round up since Oye Como Va is fun
The hits hit. The misses are probably only misses because I wasn't on some sort of mind-altering substance while listening to this. A solid 3.5 stars because of the hits, but rounding down.
alberto grooving a little bit
I like Santana, very much. But this one I enjoyed it... Not that very much.
Rocksito psicodélico chimba
A short but sweet album that shows off how fantastic of a guitarist Carlos Santana is. It has a couple of big hits, which I think work better in the context of the album than on their own, but this is the kind of record that really rewards you by listening to it from front to back.
Rart nok med noget såkaldt ikke-vestligt.
Really like the instrumentals, Carlos Santana is an amazing guitar player, I overall like the vibe of this album. Album feels like Carlos Santana showing off his guitar skills. Notable songs: Black magic women and oye como va
Man can certainly play guitar. Other than that, this was mostly enjoyable if not anything outstanding.
Guitar work is amazing. Songs lack a little. Black Magic Woman and Oy Come Va are both excellent.
So far isn't all to bad i like it
Good guitar work
I enjoyed vibe
The first half of the album was chill, but then it just wound down to white noise
If this was instrumental, it probably could have gotten a 4
7.5 good solid
Good stuff. A nice listen.
3.5
6/10 Not something i listem to usual but some I genuinely liked a few songs
I’m not sure I’ve ever listened to a complete Santana album before. I did like the singles and the vibe. Definitely better than some and I would probably listen to it again. Probably a 3.5 for me.
I enjoyed this well enough. The two hits are cool. I love Santana's tone. He really is one of the great guitarists. I just prefer other albums by them more. Like Caravanserai. That one is a gem. Also, the album he did with John McLaughlin. This one just doesn't quite do it for me to get more than a 3.
Good rythms and professional guitarplay. Somewhat meditative. I thank the album for our time together, but it will never happan again.
Day 237 Fun album, obviously the guitar the highlight Highlights Black Magic Woman I Hope your Feeling Better
Probably the most accessible Santana album with a mix of covers from rock to salsa, all well played.
Felt like I was transported to a psychedelic hippie den while listening to this album. Oye Como Va and Black Magic Woman are classics, the rest are decent songs with impressive guitar riffs. (3)
TA GUENO, NO ME ESPE
I largely ignored Santana in my teens even though I was told he is a great guitarist and I was massively into Rock music. I put this down to Smooth being released and it just sounding like a cheesy rock song at the time. Since then I have heard different things and it's clear he is great guitarist, but this album didn't do that much for me. I feel kinda justified in the fact that I mainly listened to Deep Purple, Hendrix, Led Zep from the same era as they are a lot better in my opinion. That being said, some great moments on this album and all round I'll give it a 3.
I couldn’t vibe with the super jammy, jazzy tracks, but the hits are great, and Carlos’ guitar playing across the entire record is exceptional. Killer bongos too.
p4zedostatnia piosenkq chyba calkim spoko, pozatym nic szczegolnego, ladna okladka
Excellent organ representation. Good album for getting high.
Yeah okay
Fun and upbeat latin music, not many vocals. Good instrumentals, great, even.
good
Didn't love this but Carlos sure plays a sweet guitar.
Slightly different sound to the mountain of 60s/70s blues rock on here. Not different enough though. 3 Heard before? Some Owned: No 59/241 (24%) Will I get: No
Solid album with some fun jams
Three and a half, some good tunes and guitar for a sunny day
I like the drums a lot and the screechy guitar. I am not usually a big fan of almost purely instrumental music. This is probably the type of music i would love to listen to at the beach with my peers, not at home though.
killer jams. "Hope You're Feeling Better" is a good find. the sound of santana's guitar is singular.
top 3 - Singing Winds, Crying Beasts, Black Magic Woman, Mother’s Daughter. It’s nice but I’m not sure how often I would be in the mood to listen to this. Really great guitar playing!
I had never heard this whole album, and it was good! This put Latin beats back on the American cultural map in the 60’s and they continue to thrive.
Very good!
Good but not my thing. Did really like the last three tracks though
This is what white people wanted Bad Bunny to sound like at the Super Bowl.
Great Latin album with lots of cool sounds like the electric organ and chimes.
None of these songs are the same. Which makes some of them memorable and fun. Others are nails on a chalkboard.
nice album but not something i think ill revisit a lot
groovy
His guitar playing holds up! Still sounds great. The songs themselves didn't do that much for me on their own, but there wasn't anything bad about it.
Ratings: 5: I will happily play this album anytime 4: I may occasionally play this album of my own free will 3: I will happily listen to this if someone plays it in the background 2: I will tolerate this if it is playing in the background 1: I will leave the room if someone plays this in the background Enjoyable, but not something I see myself returning to often.
On the one hand I think, “What a hero,” on the other hand I know I won’t be listening to this album again on my own.
Solid album Standout songs: Se a Cabo Samba Pa Ti
I liked this album far more than I expected. I didn't like Oyo Como Ya, expecting it to be the best song on the album. Instead, it is kind of the worst. I could listen to this album in the background and enjoy it.
Santana (not featuring Rob Thomas)
Ok for me. Got a groove, but not really feeling it. Maybe I’m too sober?? 3
Technically impressive. Definitely some fine guitar work. I'd probably rate a 4 or 5 if I were still consuming the devil's lettuce, but there's not really enough structure to satisfy sober me. If you love it when jam bands go off on a 45 minute tangent, you'll probably love this.
Liked more than I expected to given how much I dislike that song he did with Rob Thomas
This album definitely deserves more than 3 stars but it doesn’t fit my personal taste profile and that’s what I’m ranking it for. Delightful journey, wonderfully mastered, and 100% belongs on this list of albums you MUST listen to at least once
Damn good album. Even if I’m not a huge Santana fan.
Enjoyable beyond the well know tracks but also not completely deserving of repeat listens.
Guy plays guitar in most over elaborate way. Why use 1 note when you can use 6? Very mid.
This is a jazzy, latin album that is mostly instrumental. The guitar work is smooth and soaring and the tracks are definitely great to dance to and very fun to listen to.
2.5
Pretty nice stuff, but doesn't set me alight. Favourite tracks: Black Magic Woman / Gypsy Queen, Se a Cabo, El Nicoya. TOP TIP: Check out little-known Spanish band Alameda for similar vibes. I love them.
Some of these songs got so much airplay they just exist fully stored in my brain. I'm okay with this being on in the background but it isn't very interesting to be actively listening to. Nothing really wrong with it though, the guy doing the conga drums or whatever was really just going for it
𝘈𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘹𝘢𝘴 makes it easy to hear why Carlos Santana is sometimes framed as a kind of “Mexican Hendrix” — his guitar tone is warm, fluid, and instantly expressive — though he never quite reaches the same explosive unpredictability. The album has its strengths, but for me it never fully comes together as a great record. 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗮 𝗣𝗮 𝗧𝗶 stands out as the clear highlight, a beautifully melodic piece that’s probably his most universally recognized work. The rest is solid, but not essential.
This was pretty good. Psychedelic is always fun when done right. Santana is a master and it's easy to tell. I do wish some of the tracks at the end were pushed to the front, but that's a stylistic choice. Highlights: Oye Como Va (ofc), Hope You're Feeling Better (!!!)
The first two songs absolutely blew me out of the water and I thought this would be a five star. But honestly, it slowly declined through the rest of this album. Nevertheless, some of the most insane guitar playing I have ever heard. I can also tell how Fleetwood was inspired by them. The sound makes a lot of sense.
Heck yeah.
Nice chill little album, don't think I'd really go back to it but I appreciate it for what it is, it was pleasant. 7/10.
Makes me miss summer, good for kitchen chaos. Favorite song is oye como va.
Opens strong but fizzles out. A bit jazzier than I like. Surprisingly short which I appreciate on this project. 3/5
Proto-hårdrock. Gitarrerna låter Zeppelin. Men rytmsektionen låter gammaldags. En stark trea.
This Santana album ain’t bad at all, it’s got cool use of Latin influences sprinkled into it and the rock elements are pretty atypical for this list.
Better than I expected. Almost kind of jazzy, but acid jazz. Wouldn’t seek it out to play it, but would leave it on the background if it came on.
It was aight, but the title of the second track is kinda questionable.
Recognized a couple of songs and enjoyed most of the rest. Jam band isn't really my thing, no matter the country of origin.
I have a lot of opinions about this album and Carlos Santana and "Latin" music as a whole, but I will simply acknowledge the bliss of listening to Samba Pa Ti. I think that song will just always hit me like that one critic in Ratatouille.
the guitar playing was good but overall i felt a little underwhelmed by this
I’ve always like Oye Como Va, but I was never a fan of Santana’s guitar work. this album was better than I thought it’d be.
