Suprisingly good
great!
12:13 pm - Thoughts it's metal. Surprisingly good. Can easily be one of my now favorite albums. Played Que' Onda Geuro third time.
Lots of great tracks on this one, and a number of discoveries for me. I already liked E-Pro and Girl, but Black Tambourine, Hell Yes, Go It Alone, and Farewell Ride were all new finds that I loved.
This album continues to age like fine wine.
Achingly cool throughout. Great fusion of influences and styles with Beck's unique flavour sprinkled on. Top album.
Bring him Beck. Наш маник пикси бой. Очень понравилось, как хип-хоп в этом альбоме у него звучит в добрых традициях Кендалла Роя. Люблю.
I forgot that I liked Beck, nice to revist.
I think this album may be Beck's most underrated album, well not necessarily the album, but the songs on it. Hell Yes is one of the funkiest, coolest tracks ever, and I love that bassline, Missing has one of the catchiest choruses and I love the main melody, and Black Tambourine is such a cool song, the jangly guitar that comes in towards the end is great (what made me really love this song is its inclusion in David Lynch's Inland Empire, I was so shocked when that song came on). I also really like how the last half of this album is weird and creepy. High 5!!!
Favourites: Scarecrow Earthquake Weather Que’Onda Guero
Amazing
For this lyric alone - Blondie I heart you !! "And I know I'm gonna make her die Take her where her soul belongs"
My biggest gripe about rock radio, repeated to my wife as often as they repeat "Loser" by Beck is, how come they repeat "Loser" by Beck so much when there are so many other amazing Beck songs? Nothing against "Loser," which is great, but I feel like Beck is underappreciated for this reason. This album is tied with "Odelay" and "Midnite Vultures" for first place in the Beck pantheon, though "Sea Change", "Morning Phase" and even "The Information" are worthy contenders. Wish he would do another album with The Dust Brothers. I've heard "Guero" so much it's imprinted on my DNA, but I listened to it again today and it's perfect. No skips. Easiest 5 yet.
Beck might not be for everyone, but I LIKED EVERY TRACK on this album! I will be listening to it again and again.
Beck has a very unique ability to make the the actual sound and intonation of the words he is singing an integral part of the song. I enjoyed this album a great deal.
Good album some skips fs def 2005 would listen again
Relisten
This is music.
Pues muy grata sorpresa! Me ha gustado mucho, además de abrirme a un estilo musical que no suelo explorar...
Man I love this album.
Totally caught off guard with how good this album is. Ended up listening to a few others and forgot how enjoyable he is to listen to. It's controlled chaos.
This is fire!!
A funky dance through a swamp of sick beats
LOVED IT, specially the song Girl.
Perfect for walks
Fave tracks: que onda’ guero, girl, broken drum, go it alone, and emergency exit
Офигенно. Надо переслушать
This album firmly places Beck in a place and time. His monotone sunshine is very LA and the keyboard effects and record scratching is recalling Incubus and Limp Bizkit (lol). Tbh I love him for it and I love this album.
Excellent album, had heard the songs separately but together it makes for a great listen
5/5
Heck yeah! This was my jam! I had never listened to this album of Beck's (have always been a fan of his though) and it slapped! Really made my day. His creativity, the funky beats and just overall fun was a delight. Will be a staple in my collection for sure! Standouts: Que Onda Guero and Broken Drum 02-02-2026
Another masterpiece from Beck.
Amazing album, loved the vibe and styles. Best thing was the variety. Variety just isn’t something all albums have, but each song was vastly different on this album. Definitely a 5 for me.
One of the top ten albums of my life.
Guero got me into Beck. It’s not my favorite, but is very special.
loved it. 5
Becky was a fun time
I love this guy. I might start a fan club called Boomers for Beck. Every song on here is a banger.
E-Pro - 6/10 Que’ onda guero - 5/10 Girl - 4/10 Missing - 6/10 Black Tambourine - 6/10 Earthquake Weather - 8/10 Hell yes - 6/10 Broken Drum - 6/10 scarecrow - 5/10 go it alone - 6/10 farewell ride - 7/10 Rental Car - 8/10 emergency exit - 5/10 this album is absolutely incredible! from the insanely great layering in production to genre blending, this album pushed barriers showing genre blending is absolutely plausibe. Becks vocals were great alongside the genres he picked, they very smoothly fit into rock to rap to even genres like folktronica and gothic folk. This album was one of my favorites so far and i think it deserves most recognition for its impact from a post-modern standpoint and how it paved the way for the boundaries of “genres” overall album rating: 7.6/10
YES
nice surprise, from another artist I haven't really listened to. Good mix of sounds and nice lyrics, 5/5
Not familiar with this album at all, but I enjoyed all the different roads this album traveled.
So good. I know a couple of Beck albums but not this one. A kick in the ass to go out and listen to the rest of his catalogue. wiz-kid for more Dzama do you know the cover of Weakerthans' Reconstruction Site? For a deeper Winnipeg roots dive, search his art collective Royal Art Lodge
Well Callie was grooving hard to the two opening tracks of this and so was I. It made for a fun Saturday afternoon. From what I recall, this was quite different from the first Beck album we listened. I don’t remember it that well but I think this one stands out a lot more.
Extremely weird, loose and somehow cocky all at once. Catchy hooks paired with ecclectic influences and plenty of groove. Production gives it a bit of a rind, feels like a cigarette smoke-filled arcade!
5 stars all the way
349/1089 - Not as strong as Odelay for me but still a really eclectic and cool album.
Welp, it's my favorite scientologist. I've always loved this album, and a re-listen confirms it. I know the lazy-style isn't for everyone, but it is for me, and I think he's at his strongest "quintessential Beck" on this album (not even necessarily my favorite of his, though). He has a way of making nonsense seem really, really fucking cool. And when it's no longer nonsense, boy does it hit you like a ton of bricks (see: "Missing," and "Broken Drum"). Fave tracks: - Que' Onda Guero - Girl - Missing - Earthquake Weather - Broken Drum - Scarecrow - Go It Alone - Farewell Ride - Rental Car - Emergency Exit
WOW
Incredible beck havent listened to this before
Girl alone is worth a 5
Amazing album, I've always found Beck to be a creative and talented musician able to produce great songs in several different genres. This album has great examples, and the first three songs are excellent. All around great songs, with each song keeping it interesting.
Брокен Друм прекрасна.
Loved this album. This was a mainstay of my youth, haven’t listened to it in a long time.
Listens: 3 Standout Tracks: Earthquake Weather, Hell Yes, Broken Drum, Go It Alone Now I understand why YTM kept recommending this album to me (presumably based on my tastes). It's... fantastic. It's a weird mix of everything. Alternative rock. Grunge. Elements of hip-hop, country, and pop. It's got slow music, It's got aggressive music. There's weird shit on Que' Onda Guero, and Hell Yes. Not to mention it has 3 insanely popular singles. Glad I listened. Glad its on the List. Definitely adding to my rotation.
Surprisingly good. I like most of these tracks. And even with those I could personally do without, I have to acknowledge the creativity and craftsmanship. It won't end up on my favourites list, but I can't in good conscience give it less than 5/5. Probably 4.5/5.
I liked this album!
That was a great album. I'm amazed that Beck can pull from that many genres in one album and not have it sound like a disjointed mess. It's not perfect. There's bound to be a genre you don't like in something like this. That said, nothing was bad. My least favorite songs ended up being average. It's a 4.5, but I'm rounding up.
Excellent
I have this one:) And I can't believe I haven't made it a favorite in my rotation! 5/5
So many great songs on this. Might be my favorite Beck album if Colors didn't exist. Maybe not influencial, but still a great listen.
piaciuto molto di più di quello che pensansi
Quintessential Beck album, 5 stars hands down
Great
What to even call this? A fantastic listen.
Easy 5 stars do I even need to listen.
Yea this rocks
I am always really intimidated and never know where/when to start with Beck. It's a shame, because this album was awesome! Killer beats, alt-melodies and a decent vibe across the whole record. 5 stars, easily!
Not a single skip on this album
I went to the shop and made a lasagna while listening to this. There's gonna be so much funk in that thing. Realllyyy vibed with the sound - sometimes all you need is something that sounds as if you just rocked up in some guy's back yard and now you're listening to him complain about stuff in song form. Also not somewhere I expected a 'hey, I know this one' moment, and yet! Scarecrow jumpscare haha. Heard the first chords and perked up like a dog hearing a whistle lmao
Great album by Beck!
ONLY ONE OF MY FAVORITE ALBUMS EVERRRR
Almost dropped it down to a 4 compared to some of the other albums but skimming back through, they're all hits!
Guero is, in my opinion, Beck’s best album. It’s a return to collaborating with The Dust Brothers, it’s diverse and dynamic, and it’s a love letter to Beck’s native Los Angeles. I’m not an Angeleno but I’ve visited my family there enough to know what the city and the suburbs of L.A. are like. This record can literally be its soundtrack. So many standouts: “E-Pro”, “Qué Onda Guero”, “Girl”, “Missing”, “Black Tamborine”, “Hell Yes”, “Scarecrow”, and “Go It Alone” are all fantastic songs on a record that has no filler.
Used to find this one boring as a teenager and I actually get it now. I like the way Beck genre hops all over in a wry, kinda uncool way, without stepping into full obnoxious Weezer territory. Like there's still some confidence and swagger to it. My bad Beck I was unfamiliar with your game.
Alt rock, hip-hop, and a little electronic all mixed with some classic Beck weirdness. Excellent album.
what a fucking no skip masterpiece. i’ve cummed 17 times while listening
Huge Beck fan
*This* is the Beck I know and love. One of his other albums was previously generated, but this mid aughts is what hits the spot. I listened to a lot of Beck when I was first getting into alternative as a genre in middle school. E-pro, Girl, Scarecrow, Black Tambourine, and Go it Alone are all absolute bangers.
Excellent album - not a bad song on the album!
Love this album
I've been going through this sonic adventure with an intention to save one song from each album to a "1001 playlist." Ideally, that selection sits at the intersection of what I like most, what most represents the album or artist, and what might be less popular/obvious. In the case of Guero, my difficulty was in selecting the song that most sounded like Beck, because they *all* do, and yet each is very different. There are so many genres and styles packed into this album that I found it challenging to choose which to add, and he executes each perfectly with his own spin so that it never feels like he's merely trying on a new sound. The songs themselves are immediately accessible pop fodder without being trite or formulaic, and they also reward deeper/repeat listening. I didn't know this guy had so many Grammy awards from so many different eras in his career: after hearing this album, I'm planning to check out his discography.
5/5 - One of my favorite Beck records. - Blues-tronica at perhaps its finest early-aughts peak. - An album full of grooves and funk, blues and riffs, and, of course, what may or may not edge on gibberish. A must-own if you're a fan of Beck or if you only know about "two turntables and a microphone."
I've liked Beck for a while but never actually sat down and listened to this album start to finish. It's really quite even with no real duds. Enjoyable and a few new songs added to frequent rotation.
It's so good, I don't know how I missed it Masterpiece
Fabulous album!
Funky, no skips, loved it
Incrível!
An album that would probably be a 9 on a scale to 10, so it would feel like I’m robbing it by giving it a 4. Every song rocks, Beck’s a genius, and this is his best album
Funky and creative but still good songs
I bet some old boomer who is White Snake's 35th biggest fan really doesn't appreciate this album. But they would be VERY WRONG! It is really good... 5.5 Stars
I didn't know what to expect but I really like this album both in lyrics and music. 5 stars or A.
An easy five star. I bought this one when it came out, then the remix album, then tracked down all the weird chiptune mixes and b-sides
Another Beck album on this list? Hell yes! The geezer is a genius. So many styles going on here, all combined with killer tunes. It seems he can do no wrong to my ears.
I loved this album from start to finish! Mellow and smooth with clean lines and great bass beats.
So glad I listened to this. I absolutely loved it.
The highs are high enough on this album. Surprised it isn't in my book
Suuuuper groovy, sample showcase. It’s hard to tell which album I like more, this, Midnight Vultures, or Odelay. It’s all the same flavor of awesome.
Aye childhood on a disc here. I loved this album when I was small. As ive gotten older I understand its not odley but I love it just the same. Its full of very catchy songs and Beck at or around his peak. The dude was alt Jesus for a while. Kinda fell into the background a bit in recent years for myself at least. But damn do I love this era. Just fun shit in almost every track. The only blemish I can see in the whole set is hell yeah is an atrocious song. I liked it a million years ago but I can't at all anymore. Its actually terrible. But other than that I like the whole thing. Sick record I think more people should come back to
I came in thinking I was gonna give it a 1 - I hated Beck. Turns out I just hate Loser and Devils Haircut
Absolutely fantastic
Great alt rock album.
i love this album. so all over the place, so beck-y
Really enjoyed that. It’s not as iconic as Odelay but I still thoroughly enjoyed the entire thing. I would’ve liked one more faster paced song near the end as it does mellow out a bit for most of the backside but I still enjoyed each individual track. Definitely time to do a deep dive of the rest of his stuff with how much I’ve enjoyed this and Odelay. He might be my favorite Californian artist, I usually prefer New York but his sound checks all the boxes I want out of a Californian vibe. Rating: 4.7
Great songs, not a bad song on here!! Classic!
Not a loser album!!
Such a cool and bright mix of moods, styles, and sounds! Really multilayered music. Funky, bold, colorful, and very textured.
2000s rock. Beck’s highest-grossing album. Catchy beats. Long, varied Indie Rock album, great.
An incredible albmum.
raucous
Strange Scientologist makes consistently good jams. I like almost everything Beck does musically, even hitless this album is phenomenal. Not quite a 5 but I have zero issues with this album. Really feel like Nick should get super into Beck after listening to this, there’s a bon iver/Beck crossover sound that needs to be explored. I had to come back. I've listened like 10 times the past week this is a 5 it's so good way to go Beck.
Dobry
Yeahro
Really enjoyed the riffs and the instruments especially on songs such as Que' Onda Guero. The overall aesthetic of the sound and the overt but soft sounding vocals came together for an overall amazing listening experience. One of the better albums I've found as of late. Opens up with such a hard guitar solo. Such a peak opening track. Has a really awesome closer too. The beeps and boops make for a nice listening experience. Final thoughts: The opening track has one of the hardest guitar solos I've ever heard, the tracks flow together nicely and there isn't a single bad song on this entire album. 5 stars, not because I think it's perfect but because I thoroughly enjoyed it and I found no inherent flaws.
Guero has a cool vibe. I've heard some of the songs on it before but never the whole thing through. It's classic weird Beck lyrics set to what I would call "chill" poppy rock and roll. Slide guitars abound! "Missing" gave me Chris Cornell vibes for some reason, but it was cool. Also "Broken Drum" might be a new favorite. Love the dark, subdued, spacy mood of it. Standouts were "E-Pro," "Girl," "Black Tamborine," and "Broken Drum" I like this album a lot. There's a lot of cool, interesting, diverse tracks to go back to and absorb. This is like a 9 or a 10 for me and I struggled a bit with whether to give it that perfect rating or not. I'll end up giving it the 5 because it's a really solid effort and I vibed with it enough to want to listen to it again.
While not one of my favorite artists the guy defined and was the face of indie 90's and early 00's music (even if he was hardly indie in acclaim and accolades). There is a reason. He is really fucking good. This album is no exception.
ouvi 3 vezes na sequência. MUITO bom e muito diverso. influência de indie, hip hop e até samba
Bomb ! Hey guero, donde ?
Girl was my ringtone back when you paid 99¢ for a 10 second clip. It got old real fast. Unlike this album.
Me gustó muchísimo, de hecho ya lo he escuchado varias veces y planeo escucharlo más. Muy muy cool, un bajo genial y track tras track muchísima onda. Lo recomiendo para caminar de noche.
Awesome
Surprisingly fun!!
Beck is wild. I love how he bends and flows through genres. Its blues, its rock, its indie, its rap. I love how produced and how raw it sounds at the same time. Its probably because he really emphasizes on bass and drums, and then the guitars, keys and other instruments kind of come through as auxiliaries. So the whole album is kind of this open raw vehicle that is moving forward and kind of playing with different sounds as it goes. When I try and visualize it, it feels like Mad Max and every song is another stop on the Fury Road. This is a really cool record. I had a lot of fun with this one. Admittedly, it's not something I gravitate towards often. This is a record that I've had for a long time, I would listen to it in high school but it was never on my short list of albums I'd toss on. I don't really know. Something about the overall sound that I need it in small doses. The first half of this record is really unique with all of the samples, while the second half is far more blues oriented. He really nails the blues. Its super cool and raw.
Wouldn’t consider it a personal favorite but it is undeniably genius. Beck is a modern Bowie
Good lord it’s great
I'm liking the riffs right off the bat. "E-Pro" is a great song, I'm loving the vocals and the percussion. The guitar riff over the "na na na na na na naaa" part is sweet too. Something about this feels like it's going to be the best song on the record. It reminds me of the Gorillaz a little too. "Que'Onda Guero" sounds even more like a Gorillaz song. It's awesome. This album came out two months before "Demon Days". Are Damon Albarn and Beck friends? "Girl" is another banger. I'm loving the strings on "Missing". "Earthquake Weather" is dope and has another very Gorillaz sounding section in the middle. "Go It Alone" is a great song. I had this one saved already, but don't remember it. "Farewell Ride" is the first song I didn't love. This was an unexpectedly great album. I've found that you never know what to expect when walking into a new Beck album. I saw him live at Boston Calling a decade ago and I remember thinking his performance was just OK. 9/10
Love this album. So many cool bangers brining on the cool vibes.
This will be my second Beck album to review, after Sea Change. I wasn’t really into Sea Change, but I thought it was objectively a good album. I know “E-Pro” and “Girl” off of this album, and I really like both of those songs, so I have decently high hopes that I’m going to enjoy Guero! Guero was really good. The songs were all varied, but they were connected by the funky grooves that permeated the whole album. I think it takes a lot of talent and vision to create an album that’s so varied and yet incredibly cohesive. Each song’s sound feels incredibly rich and full of texture. I really enjoyed how the different musical elements were layered, so that certain sounds are barely audible in the background. It created an interesting atmosphere that I really enjoyed. There are too many instruments to name that were used in the creation of this album, but the bass playing and beats were by far my favorite element. There really wasn’t a bad song on this album. The more serious and somber songs like “Earthquake Weather” and “Go It Alone” are just as good as the more fun songs like “Girl” and “Black Tambourine.” If I had to pick a favorite song off of Guero, I’d probably have to with “Girl” or “E-Pro.” That feels like a cop-out since I’m already familiar with them, but they’re so good. That Beastie Boy’s sample on “E-Pro” is fantastic, and coupled with the guitar, it creates an incredibly fun and groovy sound. The synthesizers and vocals on “Girl” are an absolute blast, and the beats and slide guitar just kick so much ass. This isn’t the type of album I’d typically gravitate towards, but it’s incredibly well made. Guero is a really fun technical triumph from Beck!
Really kept me interested from beginning to end. Super creative.
Clearly I like repetitive samples
Love this album.
Gud
A practically perfect sonic journey through LA
Outstanding album . I thoroughly enjoyed it. I never listened to him much. I really liked his album.
Absolutely cracker.
Love Beck!
I enjoyed this album. Previously I only knew Loser, but I can see myself listening to this album again. At the very least, I’ll listen to the handful of songs I saved on Spotify. 4.5 stars.
I liked this a lot. Decent variety. Sounds great. Will go back to listen again
Absolutely fantastic. Loved it.
Beck keeps surprising me with his wide range of genres. "Broken Drum" might be his best song and he's got a lot of great ones. This album was super solid front to back, I loved it
Loved it. Not much else to say really, I won't go into any dubious details, I just fully enjoyed this album and saved a few songs from it. 5/5
I am very surprised! Didn’t have Beck on my radar back in 2005 but very much enjoyed the album
Cool
Solid gold
This is my favorite Beck album.
I was kind of obsessed with this album when it came out. Not sure why as I was never a huge Beck fan. That said I'm torn between giving this a 5 because I obviously love it or not giving it a 5 because I may be bias because of how comfortable I am with it, but whatever, that's some philosophical rating bullshit that I'm not diving into. 5 it is.
Fantastic!
"Que' onda Guero" is Mexican slang for "what up whitey?" I'm telling you this because I took two years of high school Spanish, a very ill fated run on duo-lingo, and have Mexican-American friends and never knew that. I feel like that should be some day one shit, and not something you learn from a Beck album title track. Musically, I find this album to be peak Beck. There's so many interesting things going on instrumentally and lyrically. This is definitely one I'm glad I re-listened to through headphones. Bonus- That's Christina Ricci saying "please enjoy" in "Hell Yes"
Normal but weird? I like it
If you know, You Know!!
The last of Beck's top tier albums for me -although instead of swinging wildly and succesfully between genres until this point, it comes across as Odelay's more mature older brother. Love the Mexican/Baja California feel and sound of this, also some of the songs reminds me a little of Cooder's Chicken Skin Music.
Great album. I love Beck but I didn't recall liking this particular one so much. Favorite track Earthquake Weather, but I marked 6 as favorites and I'd probably mark more with another listen. Interesting to learn that Beck and Elliott Smith were friends, and that the song Broken Drum is dedicated to him.
4.5
4/5 Great album, not primarilu genre I listen. But really well produced, creative and technical aspects, also loved diverse range of songs.
Goat
Amazing
9/10
First album I’ve gotten that I know inside and out. Beck will always be a 5 for me! It’s got beats, funk, style, and energy. Beck is just one talented motherfucker!
Oh hell yeah!
Absolutely masterful blend of folk/indie rock, electronica and hip-hop. This was my first time hearing a Beck album in full and was comepletely blown away. Will definitely be returning to this album and exploring the rest of his discography in the future.
What a lovely eclectic album! Beck takes to different genres like a duck to water - hip-hop, rock, folk... It's all familiar territory to him and doesn't seem to be too out of place. His voice never ran me ragged, and the instrumentals were top notch. His creativity also shines through his lyrics.
really good, enjoyed the rhythms and vocals.
J’adore cet album
Love Beck, loved this. This album kinda passed me by when it came out but will be revisiting this one for sure.
I always liked Beck growing up. I was into his earlier stuff but my old house mate, Tommy introduced me to this album. I’ve loved it ever since. It has such a unique feeling to it. Pity about the Scientology stuff.
Didn't know anything about it or the artist going in, and was a fun listen. Many great songs on here. A personal fave was "Missing"; as a musician, the polyrhythm between the clave and the time was all I could keep my ears on. Very good album!
First album of the project of course was Beck, was listening to them otw to work today driving to Sushi Bar. Que'Onda Guero, Girl, Go it alone are all instant classics in 2005. very nostalgic sounds for me also
Back on a random Wednesday in 2018, I went to a bar in san francisco’s tenderloin called Beer Basement. The bar was empty except for my two friends and the physically intimidating, yet soft spoken Irish bartender. A couple of beers deep, I heard a super groovy song and immediately interrupted the bartender to ask what was playing (he had a tablet using pandora I think 😂🫨). In movie like fashion, he stoped putting away pint glasses, gave me a weird look and said “its fuuckin beck” in his thick irish accent. He proceeded to roast me and then ever so politely played a bunch of cuts off of Guero. We ended up becoming friends with this guy (Steve - still runs Ales Unlimited in Pac Heights) and went to beer basement every Wednesday (exaggerated, but we went often) until covid closed it down. This album grooves… so many great songs, but I appreciated Missing and Earthquake Weather this time around.
Day323 - the first three songs of this album are awesome and i’m looking foward to more beck albums on here
I do wanna listen to that new Yanni cassette (Oh wait, already own it on CD.) Wow, (OK, he called us out on that one) the Beckster is on top of his game and hittin’ it outta the park with Guero. E-Pro, Girl, Hell Yes, and Scarecrow (best song) can not be beaten. All songs perfect up to Earthquake Weather (not a bad song, just a rough transition.) Little rough at Broken Drum (get it now that I know the back story) and the album finishes very strong. Go It Alone launches this album to (4.9*s) Please enjoy.
Another strong performance by Beck, no surprise there. This album is consistently good at every turn, there's not a bad song on it. He manages to do whatever he wants: skip around in styles, add weird sounds, go from upbeat to slow, and it just so completely works because it's Beck. "Little Drum" is really somber and beautiful then "Farewell Ride" has you walking your spurs to your grave. Lots of different vibes happening with each song, all of them really good in their own ways, the Goldilocks zone of weird. I used to like the upbeat bangers but now I'm leaning into the slower, more melancholic tracks. Even as your tastes change, this album always delivers. Hell Yes, 4.55.
Was a little surprised to see this album make the list considering the other massive works by Beck but I'm not the least bit mad about it. Guero is another showcase of the range and talent Beck has with music. He brings in so many genres (folk, electronics, classical, hip-hop) and mixes them flawlessly. No one does it better (only artist that comes close is prob Damon Albarn). A few hits on here and some lesser known great like "Missing" and "Scarecrow." Not a bad track on the whole thing. The more I listen to the is album, the higher it ranks. More Beck to come and all I can say is "Hell Yes"...4.55.
This album is a good melow rock feel. This released in 2005 when I just started exploring rock music. I wish I found it back then but I have it now and I'm not mad. I definitely want to hear more from the artist.
This is an excellent album by Beck. It is funky and eclectic. Very fun to listen to. Best Track: "Go It Alone", with Jack White on the bass, but most of the tracks here are awesome. 5 stars.
I'll always have a soft spot for this album. It will always remind me of the big city, specifically Santiago de Chile. I'm chilean (hola qué wea), and I grew up mostly in a small town. When the time came to move to the big city, I used to listen to this album nonstop and it was the best match it could have been.
Brilliant eclectic interest adding up to a masterpiece.
I really enjoy listening to Beck, so this was a nice treat. And while I was mystified by the presence of the previous Beck album I listened to ("Sea Change"), I'm not at all surprised to see this album. Even though I don't own this album, I feel like I've heard nearly all of the songs on it before, and enjoyed all of them (the only ones I didn't really recognize were "Earthquake weather", "Broken drum" and the last three songs). I particularly enjoyed listening *and* watching "E-Pro", "Girl", "Black tambourine" and "Hell yes", as he seems to have consistently creative and entertaining videos to songs that are already fun to listen to (the ASCII-art nature of "Black typewriter" was particularly cool, as were the MAD-inspired fold-ins in "Girl"; bummer that he had a spinal injury filming "E-Pro"). What a nice contrast to his previous album "Sea Change", and a great return to form. And a lot of really interesting contributors to various songs, including the funny selection of Christina Ricci on "Hell yes". And what a pleasure to listen to an album that was enjoyable from start to finish. (5)
It’s hard to pick a favourite Beck album because they can sound so different, but I can say with some certainty that Girl is my favourite song of his. I’ve listened to a lot of Beck over time, and I’d say that Guero is possibly one of his most accessible. He doesn’t get too weird with things like on Midnite Vultures, but also not too sedate like with Sea Change and Morning Phase. It’s hard to fault anything here, but then I’ve always loved Beck’s music and how genre defying he can be.
I am wholly unfamiliar with this album but it really pulled me in and took me on a ride. Missing is a perfect example, feels like it has cogs and steam pushing you along. There is a laid back but relentless propulsion running through the songs that I find hypnotic and appealing. I've rated Beck 3 and 4 so far in this project, this one really won me over.
So refreshing amd original. All songs are a surprise and yet somehow the album works perfectly. A masterpiece by Beck who is one of the greatest minds of experimental rock and top tier musician overall.
Beck is a musical genius in my book. I'm not as familiar with this as Sea Change or Morning Phase but it's thoroughly enjoyable. This album is a grower, invest some time listening and you'll be rewarded.
Definitely unique
Love this album. A great vibe throughout, with quirky songs that stay with me. Not sure how much of this is due to the Dust Brothers. And yes, I still own the deluxe cd/DVD version with the 7 bonus songs and the surround sound mix, which I will listen to in the morning.
Brilliant album, have listened to this one a lot. Love Beck!! 92/100 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Haven't listened to much Beck. This is a really solid album. I should definitely check some more Beck out!
cool sounds and stuff and songs and his dad is cool
Loved this! And him. I feel like my world has opened up, so much more Beck to explore
5/5
This might be my new favorite Beck album after being a Midnite Vultures stan for years.
Enjoy Beck's earlier works. Not heard of this. Looking forward to it As eclectic, exuberant and excellent as ever. Loved it!
BECK YOU BEAST, RIGHT ANOTHER AWESOME ALBUM. I prefer Odelay BUT this is awesome as fuck!
Horny stuff
love it.
Starts ridiculously strong and manages to maintain throughout. A gem of an album, not a bad song on it.
Favourite beck album we've had so far, had his classic sound but this was the best version of it. Lots of good riffs and most of the songs had their own bits that stopped it being too samey, though I can see why he might have moved on from this sound after this, he's pushed it as far as it can go. Will definitely listen again, 4.5.
Favourite Beck album thus far. Just really cool - only one or two songs don't really do anything for me (e.g., Hell Yes) but the run before that, Missing, Black Tambourine, and Earthquake Weather, is amazing. I enjoy music where the artist is clearly having a blast creating it - loads of experimentation, riffing on prior tracks, some weird lyrics, and his singing isn't even that bad. That he has the freedom to do what he wants is beneficial if he's in this creative state of mind.
FIRE. Felt like it went from country to hip hop to blues shit was wild. Only one song I didn’t care for but it’s a solid ride start to finish.
This Beck album is sooo cool. I should have listened to more of Beck a long time ago. He writes and performs great music. It is definitely mood music…so couldn’t listen all the time. But it certainly has a time and place and this is a great album.
Never listed to Beck intentionally but listened to this album all day. Dang good.
Tolles Album. Hebt sich angenehm von vielen ähnlich klingenden Alben dieser Liste ab und ist auch in sich abwechslungsreich.
I fucking love Beck. E-Pro, Que Onda Guero, Girl, Black Tambourine, Hell Yes, Go It Alone - all fucking jams. Such an eclectic artist gotta respect that. All of the genre bending sounds and samples make this a 5 I love it. Go Beck!
Wow, so we go from a sad ballad album with Sea Change to a more sample heavy album with Guero, Beck has quite a lot of range. And yes, i do love this album. The samples here give this album an unbelievable amount of personality but that's not to undermine Beck's singing and his work on the regular instruments because those are all great too. Its just the sampling and the great use of it that really steal the show for me. This really is the best Beck album i have done so far beating out Sea Change. Best Song: Rental Car Worst Song: Missing Side note: The music videos are also incredibly surreal and I love it.
Beck has a unique sound for sure. I’m glad I finally spent the time to listen to his music and this album. I enjoy the various styles he mixes together.
One of my favorite Beck albums. It's a pretty groovy listen.
This really was the first Beck Album I‘ve listened to and I loved how this was a whole mixture of genres. Classic Rock, Grunge, Rap, Electronic and so on. I‘ll definitely will listen to this some more times!
Another release I should have been all over when it came out, but was checked out musically. This is badass.
Another fantastic album from Beck. I'm quite annoyed that I haven't really given him a chance previously. This album seemed to span about 10 different genres. One of the signs of a good album, in my opinion, is when the album ends and you feel like you've only been listening for a few minutes.... and that's how this felt to me. I will definitely be listening again, and also checking out his back catalogue.
This album is so good. Beck is one of those artists who when I listen to an album like this I think "is this his best?". Then I listen to another and I think the same thing. And then even another.and think I again.
Rad
Love Beck!
Very likely my most played CD of the 2000s. I’m not a Beck completionist but this is his favourite album of mine. Every song is a banger.
Glitchy and artsy with a significant steel guitar presence. E-pro, Emergency Exit, and Hell Yes are significant highlights. Becks vocal style seems to be partially influenced by Kurt Cobain. This album seems to get progressively better with every re-listen.
never heard a beck album before this, only knew that he was highly acclaimed. didn’t expect so much rap to be present, nor for it to be as good as it was (relatively speaking)
Love
this album is 'chill middle aged white dad' music personified and i fucking love it. this was one of my first beck albums that i got really into so it's pretty nostalgic for me Favs: e-pro (one of my all time fav beck songs actually!), girl, hell yes, go it alone, scarecrow(also one of my all time favs)
Banger!!!!
I got into Beck in high school, but I think I’ve only listened to this album once while on a flight prior to this. I was a little surprised by how many songs I already knew! Beck’s done so many genres and is so prolific, but when I think of what Beck’s music sounds like, this is it. Great album! My fav songs that I already knew: Girl, Hell Yes, Scarecrow, Go It Alone Fav songs I didn’t know: Missing, Earthquake Weather, Farewell Ride
Many of my favourite Beck songs on this album.
This is a true gem. Had no idea this was out there
This is such a fun and joyful album. If it doesn’t make you move your body, nothing will.
Awesome album with cool pop style jams and more abstract songs. E-Pro guitar riffs are immediately recognizable and other good songs like Guero and Hell Yes are enjoyable.
Unique vibe, excellent chill album.
Objectively great album, but nostalgia also plays a huge role for this one. I’ve loved since it came out and am still a Beck fan! You’re probably asking the wrong girl to rate this.
El show me dejó atónito. Impresionante la energía que tiene Beck en vivo: lo versátil y experimental del tipo, la banda que lo acompañaba, el show de luces y el sonido que era un patadón en el pecho. El tipo tiene un nivel artístico impresionante y éste disco lo demuestra.
I’m a big fan of Beck’s music. It’s my favorite listen while traveling.
Groovy. I came in pretty cold on this one. Beck is just a touch older than me and I was on a different scene as a young person. Loved this album. E-Pro, Que' Onda Guero, Girl, and Missing all rocked for different reasons. Broken Drum hits deep even if I never really connected with Elliot Smith. Farewell Ride was great. I'm a sucker for acoustic blues guitar over electronic instruments. Overall a great album. I understand Beck is an adventurous artist so I'm excited to hear more of his stuff to see if this album connected in particular or if I like the swagger and approach in general.
I enjoy Beck's music and then I remember he's a Scientologist. But seriously, I had this album in college and played it all the time. I lost the thread of it at some point and haven't heard the album in years. When I started listening I thought that on the basis of losing the taste for the album I'd give it a 4. But I'm hard pressed to name a track I don't like; I'm enjoying this very much. I love the overlays and the beats and the mix of genres. Guess I'm upgrading to a 5.
Really good! I've realized how much I enjoy Beck's music through this generator. This is the third album of his I've had and all of them have been great! Favourite songs: E-Pro, Scarecrow, Go It Alone, Girl, Que' Onda Guero, Black Tambourine, Hell Yes, Farewell Ride, Rental Car, Send a Message to Her Least favourite songs: Missing, Earthquake Weather 5/5
No words needed
The first time I ever heard Beck was as a kid when "Loser" came on the radio and I hated it. Thankfully my musical taste has vastly matured since then. However that was the only song by Beck I had ever heard until this here album came along. I had no idea what to expect. I absolutely loved it. This was such a good album. It starts off with E-Pro and that has such a nice guitar riff to drive it along. Each song has something that drives it, be it Beck's voice (which I think sounds better on this album than it ever did on "Loser") or the jangly acoustic guitar on "Farewell Ride". This was such a good album. If I still listened to CD's I would totally go out and buy this one.
was not familiar with this Beck album & thoroughly enjoyed it. great variety of styles, sounds, instruments, and samples (without beating them to the ground). will happily listen to this again
The best.
Glad I listened to this album. Had a couple of singles on here I’m familiar with.
I liked this one a lot actually. He still shouldn't have won the grammy or whatever tho.
E-Pro Que' Onda Guero (My summer) Girl Izvrstan album
Beck, you sly sly motherfucker
one of my favorite albums by Beck. Great flow throughout the album
like a pensive chris cornell singing over a jack white record; like a stoned gizzard. wasn't expecting the world, came out with superbly easy chill vibes. 100% successful in achieving it's goal. mega. 5/5
It's Beck, of course its awesome.
Whenever you get Beck, Jack White and the Beastie Boys together how can you go wrong! This album brought back what Beck does best: blend weirdness into wonder! Key tracks: ePro and Go It Alone, though the entire album is repeatably good!
wir gorillaz ohne den rap
Never heard this band before. It was cool and sounded good.
This album has a lot to like. It has a very unique sound and each song is good in its own way. Not really sure what to call this sub genre of rock, but I like it a lot.
VG+
Beck is one of my top 10 artists, possibly top 5. The creativity, variety, and authenticity of Beck is incredible and hard to beat. And talk about entertaining! This album is full of wild hits, with the first several songs in a row being some of Beck’s all-time bests in my opinion. Lots of fun and variety here. For more zany enjoyment, consider the remix album called “Guerolito” - not quite as good as the originals in most cases but worth anyone’s time. This is a defining album of my youth and I have spent a lot of time listening to Guero over the years. Five stars.
It was great listening to this album again, it has been years and years since I hear the whole thing. My childhood favorite has always been "Girl" and it still holds up. A new stand out is "Rental Car" I think this is the gold standard for weird/experimental albums. Every song is very listenable. I dont have a good reason to go lower so 5 stars
I love this album! I have it on CD and listened in my car before my 2002 Ford Focus's stereo decided to eat CDs.
Hell Yes!
3-4-2024 Earthquake Weather is my favorite so far. Mostly a consistent sound up to this point. This is a nice break to mellow out a bit. Overall, I enjoyed this.
Already heard but will re-listen to
play it, own it, love it
Звук гораздо менее странный,чем в прошлом альбоме, который я слушала, но всё равно очень-очень круто
Hit after hit. Beck never disappoints.
Oooo baby what a banger of an album, full of interesting tracks to spruce up an afternoon. Someone cooked up some groovy flows and I'm eatin' them up. 5/5 - "So good I listened to it twice."
This album is cheerful tour through hell, led by a nonsensical and charismatic narrator—doomsday music I can get behind. I appreciate the eerily poetic lyrics as well as the overarching theme of revenge. Favorite Track: Que Onda Guero Least Favorite:
Stellar album throughout. Really excited when this popped up because I hadn’t listened in quite a while.
Loved this!
A long time I always thought of "Loser" when hearing the name Beck. But in the meantime I realised that there was much more. I like this unusal sound.
Beck - Guero I never really listened to this album by Beck. I was familiar with Mellow Gold and Odelay. So I was happy to see this pop up as my album for day 9. I've been listening to it all morning and I'm loving it! I might even go as far as to say that I think this is my favorite Beck album. I didn't find myself wanting to skip any of the songs at I listened. My favorite being Que' Onda Guero. It's just so fucking good. 5/5
1. 4.6 2. 4.5 similar to the Gorillaz sound 3. 4.2 4. 4.8 Best song thus far 5. 4.4 6. 4.8 7. 4.9 8. 4.3 9. 4.2 10. 4.5 11. 4.7 12. 4 13. 4.2
Love Beck and this has several great songs
Strong start with an familiar jam. Second song sounds like a more upbeat Gorillaz track - groovy, weird, and creative.
I loved the utilization of a plethora of instruments. The influence from Latin music throughout the album was phenomenal. Truly an amazing record.
Wow. I forgot how much I like Beck. Great album. Super groves. Recommend for sure A+
Outstanding album--each track, thoroughly listenable. Genius.
Love Beck
✔️
Excellent--Beck at his prime..
Fab. Would listen to the whole thing again. Enjoyed it very much while in Key Largo
A great one!
I was pleasantly surprised by this album! Although I had heard the song "Girl" before I never knew anything else of this album. It is a very eclectic mix of music. Especially like the song "Missing " I loved the middle Eastern vibe to it! I will definitely be adding this album to my Playlist.
I loved the different sounds showcased on this album. There is a lot of debate on Beck's lyrcial symbolism, whether there is meaning to be discerned or not, and I think that's one of the greatest parts of his music for me. Some songs do seem nonsensical, but then you catch one that is clearly describing a place you could be present in, or a situation you can imagine. Overall, the grunge/alt sound always speaks to me, and this was expertly done.
Nice
good stuff
Yeah, this is my favorite Beck album. Thank you for another excuse to spin it.
I liked many songs on this album and loved many
9/10 Great ablum Some random hip hop/rock bangers on it
I did not have the impression that Beck could satisfy my tastes this much. I am totally surprised and pleased by this record.
E-Pro, Girl, Go It Alone, Farewell Ride. Beck all over the place on this one - some electronic songs, some dirty acoustic bangers with a harp, crunchy rock songs.
I love bilingual Beck but for a very white guy he leans a little too heavy into it on this one. Still love his grooves though.
Everything you love about Beck in one album. Which is funny because I thought I knew Beck, but now I'm not certain I ever did. This was a easy win, go-buy-the-vinyl, album. Hints of Gorillaz, Cake, Sublime. Loved the album.
My favorite Beck album, probably slightly preferred to Odelay due to the cleaner production and accessibility. It's fun and silly and representative of 2000s culture. In a lot of ways reminds me of the Gorillaz in terms of the reliance on electronica and diversity in genres. There's a different style in every song, and nearly all of them work. Tons of energy and very catchy. 2nd side slows things down, and I would argue half the songs don't leave much of an impression. For example, "Farewell Ride" and "Emergency Exit" sound far too similar, and I wasn't crazy about either, especially for long they dragged, but I think he could have combined both into one really good song. Giving it 5 stars because I really do love this album, and I was invested in it all, which is a very rare thing from me.
Great Beck. 5/5
Love beck
Aw hell yeah! Got back into this album recently after seeing Beck live. Solid fun album.
Eu me surpreendi demais! Que álbum bom de ouvir
"See the vegetable man in the vegetable van" has to be one of the strongest openers yet.
Amazing
Great album,
Great album. So many genres and influences coming together to make some slick, fun, great music.
Beck knows how to use dynamics to enhance a song's impact. Great album! one of my favorites.
I took a little longer with this album, as I wanted to really savor it. It is fantastic. I was not familiar with this album of Beck's or even these songs, but that made me sad I hadn't spent time with it before. I could listen to this lots and lots. So funky and fun, I want this as my life soundtrack right now.
Wow! I totally loved this one. On first listen, there was one track that I didn’t like so much, but I really didn’t want the album to end. So, I played it again and again and again and… I never again heard that track that I didn’t like though…
Oh my goodness. I love this album! So glad it's here!
I thought Odelay and Mellow Gold covered me for my Beck listening needs, but here Guero comes along and adds another unique yet unmistakably Beck album to the mix. I really enjoy this album! My biggest surprise is that I don’t know if I knew the songs off this before, and that I have never listened to this before. Fantastic!
This album is inspired. I’ve have heard quite a few of the tracks by themselves, but honestly I’m mad at myself for not listening to it in it’s entirety sooner. Very creative album, engaging from start to finish. A hard 5.
Yeahhh! Great one to start with!
Beck can nail so many genres and blend them together seamlessly. This album is no exception. It's no wonder he's been producing so much great music for decades.
