Reviews (page 4 of 12)

Good variety. Lots of fun.

I like his earlier albums much more than this one, but still, a good listen

A really good album, I liked Girl, Earthquake Weather, Go It Alone and Scarecrow the most.

Great stuff here

Really enjoyed Girl remixed by octet

Run and poppy, yet grungy and bluesy. I love the blues adjacent tunes like “go it alone” and “scarecrow” that thread that needle.

Fun and inventive.

Torn to give it a 4, maybe more like a 3.5. Don't consider this the better of the Beck albums, but I think its better than the others I listened to on this app.

Not his best but still pretty damn good.

It’s a good album overall, but something about Beck’s constant use of half assed Spanish kind of annoys me. 3.75 / 5

Day 72 Can never go wrong with a bit of Beck, insanely talented man. 8/10 Highlights Hell Yes Go it Alone Chain Reaction

Fun album with a lot of variety (although a lot of filler too). 3.5/5.0: Very Good

Labai patiko, du beck albumai per savatę, super.

Love this album.

dust brothers 🙏🙏🙏

Super interesting listen. So many different genres combined on one album that was full of emotion and amazing production.

Pretty solid album, sucks I wasn’t into this growing up. A lot of good songs on here

- Melodic and interesting instrumentals. - Only a couple songs that I’d probably skip (Emergency Exit & Farewell Ride)

Einen Tag zu spät gehört. Der Tag vor der Balkantour. Beck auf die Ohren und To Do Liste abarbeiten. War gut.

5 stars if you separate the art from the artist... really wish I had not just learned that christina ricci did a fake accent on Hell Yes. subtracting 1 star for making me cringe.

This is definitely one of Beck's better albums. A few bangers on there.

Beck has never done much for me, but this was a pleasing enough way to spend an hour. All of the songs have that pastiche that Beck has made his signature, and I liked opener "E-Pro" the best. None of it feels especially deep or substantive, but I don't think that's the point, either.

This is my first Beck album ever. I didn’t even realize he’d worked on the Annie soundtrack before this. So I came in with no expectations, just curiosity. Guero hit me as this weird, dusty collage, half hip-hop, half rock, all stitched together with a sense of rhythm that feels both loose and deliberate. It’s like you’re walking through a street full of noise, colors, and random voices, but somehow it grooves. I didn’t really connect with “Girl,” “Go It Alone,” “Farewell Ride,” or “Emergency Exit.” They lost some of the energy or texture I liked in the rest. But the rest of the album had this grit and movement I kept coming back to. Top 5 (First Listen): E-Pro – that distorted riff is wild; feels like Beck’s version of chaos. Broken Drum – unexpectedly emotional; quiet but deep. Que Onda Guero – pure attitude; the sound of walking through the city, all eyes and rhythm. Earthquake Weather – hypnotic and steady, like a dusty daydream. Hell Yes – chaotic in a fun way; glitchy but cool. Overall, Guero feels like a world of its own — somewhere between grit and groove, where nothing’s clean but everything’s alive. I get now why people say Beck is hard to define. I didn’t expect to like this much of it, but it pulled me in.

Encore une belle découverte!

So eclectic and fun. Loved this

this was fun! a nice, easy listen and a few bangers!

I don't think this is his best work. There are a few good ones, but I think Odelay is a better album.

It's Beck

Not my favorite Beck album, but solid.

I quite like it. Very varied but enjoyable. Just gets a 4 I'd say.

i guess this is the best beck album

Great artist. What a voice to start with. He can handle such a wide spectrum of musical styles. Closing for example hip hop beats with harmonica. After some more experimental songs a relaxing soft alternative rock song.. Amazing! I had a great ride.

Fun album, I apricated the range of styles

Really dig this album - never listened to Beck outside of his radio releases (which I like). Plays with hip hop style and layers beats with interesting sounds

It's fun!! Very groovy!

When has Beck not been good? I don't think there's been a time in my life that I wasn't a fan.

Love Beck, Guero was a solid interesting album with good beats.

A classic

Não é meu estilo mas é bom

Really good, progressive music - not something I'd normally listen to but I enjoyed it.

Really cool record! Lots of iconic beats, mumbly vocals, cool guitar samples, fun lyrics. I'd probably listen to this one again

what a great album! it doesn’t quite reach up to a 5 yet for me but i really love these vibes. the first song is an absolute banger. the strings on ‘missing’ feels very like beck’s album ‘sea change’ vibes. ‘broken drum’ is beautiful. ‘scarecrow’ is amazing and ‘go it alone’ with jack white on the bass is epic! it does feel slightly too long atm. that’s my only complaint. 4.5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Gasa fes pokkoddio sembra di sentire i gorillaz

Guero reminds me of the parking lot at my old job. I would listen to the CD in the car on the way to work, on the way to and from lunch and then on the way home from work. After "E-Pro," I really like "Earthquake Weather" and "Go It Alone."

Elevating this from 3 to 4 stars mostly because it gave me an excuse to listen to Beck, but he's got better albums.

nice one

A classic, 8/10 for me

Beck definitely makes some interesting music. Every Beck album I've ever listened to has been completely the different, but has enough underlying Beckness you can tell that it's a Beck album. This one was definitely sample heavy, but like the songs, the samples were pretty varied in genre and type. I enjoyed my time with this album.

Same vibe I always get from Beck. Great stuff, not sure I want to listen on the regular though. It feels.... too safe. It is top tier safe.

Dig Beck's earlier releases more, this one is pretty good

i liked the southwestern vibes :)

Great album. Kinda surprised how many songs I knew. Beck has consistently put out good music.

More eclectic than I was expecting. There's some rocky numbers, of course, but some more experimental pieces too and even rap/hip hop elements in places.

Easily one of the best uses of the "90s hip-hop beat" I've heard. The combination with low, heavily distorted guitar and mellow semi-echo vocal sounds pretty darn good. E-Pro, the opening track, is the first of many uses of this combination – and it slaps. And it's not overdone, either: after the first two tracks, Beck diverges into other kinds of percussion that come to define each track, starting with track #3, Girl. If you saw the song title Girl and were hoping for a Beatles cover, you'd be disappointed. It sounds like nothing else I've ever heard. A fun set of acoustic guitar chords, pretty vocal harmonies, and a very memorable synth intro – all produced to perfection. This is the best track on the album, no doubt. Go It Alone comes close with its deadpan, ultra-bluesy i-IV harmonic progression. (Gotta love that Dorian mode!) The very sudden drops in texture are very modern-sounding. The end of Black Tambourine heading into Earthquake Weather... Looks like somebody forgot to take song transition classes. Earthquake Weather has a fun repeating keyboard lick in the chorus that sounds nearly identical to a car horn. I have no idea if it's intentional, but I really hope it is. Hell Yes is one of the tracks I was most conflicted on. It's very hard to catch onto, particularly as the bass is the only well-delivered instrument and it isn't exactly consistently present. The vocal is delivered kind of lazily, without any sort of melody apart from the one-note robot filter thing in the chorus. But even the robot sounds bored. That takes some serious skill. 4/5 Key tracks: E-Pro, Girl, Go It Alone

This album is generally good. I like "E-Pro" "Missing" and "Earthquake Weather" But "Hell Yes" was a negative to this album for me. "Broken Drum" is good too. I also like “Farewell Ride”. While I liked many songs, I don't think I would ever just throw this on.

I wouldn’t consider myself a Beck fan necessarily. I have listened to most of his releases and enjoyed his output enough but don’t often return. This is a release that I have listened to multiple times, is it his best? I don’t really know but it’s bouncy and fun and won me over. 4 stars

Fun listen, starts with goofy Beck but I really got into it

Always thought of this one as the closest he made to Odelay. Really fun listen and some memorable tracks that still pop into my head 20 years later.

I thought this was pretty interesting, I have his Sea Change album from 2002 and this was a bit edgier and different in a good way, overall happy with it and a good 4 star album.

This was the first time I really listened to Beck. I enjoyed the album way more than I expected. 2000s vibes rock with some influences from rap and folk. Felt pretty alternative and, at the same time, well-planned. My rating: 8-8.5/10 mini0n [29/08/2025]

While some may complain that Beck is rehashing old routines, I for one enjoy him revisiting this space. Pure Beatnik psych-hop?

8/10 Lacking the obvious highs of Odelay, but also doesn't have the frustrating tracks of that album too. Really solid

These songs were always on the radio.

Interesting listen. Relaxing for the most part.

Enjoyed this album walking around the neighborhood

I gave it a four because it's not his best, but it's really good. Better than I remember. I wish I could give it a 4.5

Yes, fellas

Super fun album. Hadn’t ever listened to a Beck album the whole way through. Will revisit this one

It’s just Beck doing Beck type things. But I love it. Groooovy.

Creative, many different sounds, interesting to listen to, tracks added to the 1001 playlist :)

Interesting. Should Listen again

There is no such thing as a bad Beck album. He is one of the most eclectic artists out there varying his sounds from electronic to folk without a glance. Love his music but this one was not one of my favorites as no individual song sticks with me. Still he is a musical genius who deserves to be celebrated even if a beat is missed here and there.

This was better than I expected. Maybe not my favorite on this list, but solid.

This album is sublimely produced, I mean it just sounds so crisp and layered and punchy. And the first half is nearly perfect, all the way up through "Broken Drum" at least. It meanders a little more after that point. And I don't think the lyrics are all that deep, though they're probably not meant to be. But this album captures a hell of a vibe, it really does feel like you're in LA in summertime. I think I may like this one better than Odelay! Must-listen #197.

Beck is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get... Not my favourite, but still pretty tasty

I always forget how good this album is. When I think of Beck‘s best albums, this one never manages to pop in my mind but it is fantastic, especially through headphones.

Classic 2000s Beck. Good variety, easy to listen to. Groovy and cool.

Beck’s best album. Groovy, rocking and overall a leftfield addition to the canon of music

It’s hard to write a review for a Beck album, especially this one, which I’ve probably listened to the most. I might go about saying this in every single album of his on this list, but there’s something truly unique about this. No other artist has the capacity for such incredible replayability. I must’ve played Qué onda guero quite literally hundreds of times, with Hell Yes in second place for replayability. There’s just something in those types of songs that Beck makes that’s like crack. You can’t really squeeze a synoptic theme out of the entire album, but there’s certainly themes in each song. E-Pro explodes into the stereo irreverently before transitioning into the de facto title track’s background yelling and semi-nonsensical lyrics. That’s what Beck does best. The nonsense senselessly makes sense. It’s varied (compare Missing to Hell Yes) and still manages to clutch at cohesivity, probably. I think. Yeah. That’ll do it.

Always enjoy this one

86% Best: E-Pro; Que’ Onda Guero; Missing; Earthquake Weather; Go It Alone Must-Hear? Sure

A good album but not my favorite by Beck. It does however have one of my favorite songs of all time in Black Tambourine. I liked this song on release, but then I saw Beck perform it live. Now everytime I hear this song, I get goosebumps remembering how this song absolutely stole the show in what was already a slamming set. Hard to replicate the energy and feeling of something like that on an album, but this still stands out as a favorite for me. My personal experience is an obvious bias for why I love this album.

Nice, groovy sound and an enjoyable listen, and definitely not bad for the first album of the list. I like the mix of genres and how it still sounds consistent throughout.

Some bangers in there that didn't know were part of this album

Very enjoyable, strong start with E-Pro.

Liked songs: E-pro; Qué Onda Guero; Girl; Go it alone

In a few ways Guero feels like the spiritual sequel to Odelay. The style hopping and the choice to bring the Dust Brothers back for production duties come to mind. However, Guero, as one would expect, feels like a more mature work. It's not as freewheeling as Odelay; Beck is more measured in his approach and Guero feels much more focused as a result. "E-Pro" is anthemic, "Girl" is breezy, and "Black Tambourine" is apparently weird enough for David Lynch's Inland Empire. There's a lot to like here, and I appreciate the album's consistently high quality. "Hell Yes"

really vibe with the 2nd half, starting from Broken Drum.

Chompy Chompy beats and guitars with cryptic lyrics. Gotta be in the mood for this and I wasn't, but it's still fun and jamming

What a good mellow batch of tunes. I think I’ve listened to this a lot, probably in college, and was kind of surprised just how comfy and familiar it felt. ‘Broken Drum’ has some pleasant half-baked vibes.

I like Beck, and this album has a lot of good tunes. Just a very enjoyable listen for me.

This was pretty good, think I need to listen again

Old favourite

Great album! I love Beck and this is one of the albums that I really got into of his! Overall it's a catchy album as most are by him!

I didn't really keep up with Beck too closely after Odelay, but apparently that was my loss. This is a solid album. 4/5 #137

I don't know, man. What do you say about Beck? I don't really know how to explain his music, I don't really know *why* it's good, I just know it's damn good. It's weird, the lyrics don't make any damned sense, he's constantly got little snippets of sounds that don't sound like they should work, but they're actually perfect, and the songs are all so catchy. So this is a Beck album, and although I can't explain why it's awesome, I can simply tell you - it's pretty awesome.

Rating: 8/10 An eclectic album that feels coherent as well.

Maybe it's just that Beck's clown-prince reputation, gained semi-unfairly since "Loser," precedes him, or maybe it's just that this is album number nine and there's more urgency in asking the question, but I felt a need to determine whether Mr. Hansen was really signifying anything here - whether he was doing anything more than just showing off. Not that he isn't *great* at that - a little Tribe Called Quest here ("Que' Onda Guero"), a little Cornershop there ("Missing"), some erstwhile G-Funk wherever ("Earthquake Weather"), some mid-period Blur on the opener "E-Pro" just to prove he can still rock, some White Stripes (actual Jack White included!) on "Go It Alone" to prove he isn't afraid of his successors. But for a moment on "Missing" his voice sounds downright Cobainian (and not for the only time here - "Rental Car" skillfully pilfers Nirvana's "On a Plain"), and that was when it became clear to me what Beck is really up to - measuring whether his crazy quilt of influences and voices adds up to anything. This is an album of middle age, made by a 35-year-old new father (and wasn't Cobain a new father when he died?) staring over the edge of his life and trying to figure out what in the abyss of his soul gets passed on and what shouldn't be. Hence the downbeat, contemplative vibe that sets in as the album progresses - as shit gets real and the ability to impress wears off (the great thing about your kids is they don't give a shit how smart or talented you are). "The good in us is all we know," he sings on "E-Pro," and it's ultimately what walks him away from the edge and allows him to keep his hand on the plow on the bluesy, cautiously optimistic finale, "Emergency Exit." All in all, it's no *Odelay* but it would be wrong if it were.

Not his best work, but still some fun tunes

He covers a lot of genre in here. He's always best in the rock guitar. I appreciate him working so hard. But I really only want to hear half the songs. 3.5/5

Friday: Listen to Sea Change Saturday and Sunday: Listen to other artists Monday: Listen to Guero Well, Beck to work I guess. This is more what I expected from Beck, and though I was prepared to be disappointed, I thought it was probably about as good as Sea Change. Not someone who'll ever likely be a favorite, but he's alright for 45 minutes at a time.

I Don't think theres a single other person on the planet who could write a Beck song Great sounds on this

I've never been overly into Beck, but I really enjoyed this album. Full of catchy riffs

In hindsight this is the first Beck album that just sounds… like a Beck album. This is the moment he drops the experimentalism and the genre explorations and the trend-setting, and settles into a groove that could occasionally produce hits on alt radio and keep him in-demand as a live performer in the long run. Many such cases! Despite my slight cynicism about the direction his career has gone, I have a soft spot for Guero. It’s got all the sounds and characteristics you know and love from Beck (breakbeats, quirky samples, cut-and-paste nonsense bars, vaguely bossa nova vibes here and there) with maybe a few more bummer vibes carried over from Sea Change. 4 stars might be generous but that’s nostalgia for you. I was too young for Odelay to make its way into my ears so when this came out it was very much in rotation that whole summer. This isn’t his best album but it’s maybe his most consistently good one. And it has the lyric “fax machine anthems get your damn hands up” on it so that’s gotta count for something.

A solid Beck album. Very good stuff

Another wonderful album from Beck! A lot of variation (in a good way).

Innovation and creativity find a way into song

The first three songs on this album are certified bangers, but the rest of the record can’t hold up to its hot start. Still a very good album, probably my favorite of Beck’s career.

Initially unsure as to why this was here - how many entries does Beck need? On listening it's a great album with some really enjoyable songs, a definite 4+ - but if you've listened to any of his earlier work it's not exactly groundbreaking. Still, middling Beck is better than most.

Although there are some dance beats this is a ‘headphone album.’ It is genuinely fun and interesting to listen to. I didn’t think of this as one of Beck’s best, but maybe I was wrong?

Very fun album, sounds to me like some kind of Wilco-NIN hybrid.

Enjoyed the differing styles on this album. It really through me for a loop when the second track started, but in a good way. Cool sampling throughout the track and overall great production. I probably won't listen to this much on my own time, but this definitely has my respect. solid 4

this is good, I like the different styles. E-pro is a classic rock song of the 2000s but this thing is good all the way through. too tired to write more - 4/5

Folk rap is surprisingly cool.

I like the spanish/mexican influence integrated into the album. Reminded me of the Breaking Bad intro. But also a cool mix of digital/electronic sounds. Fun, dynamic.

I enjoyed this album listen! I do love me some Beck but I don’t think I’ve listened to a Beck album in full so that was fun. I like how Beck blends different genres within his music which makes it exciting to listen to and makes him a standout in the alt rock/experimental scene. I can see myself rocking out to some Beck in my future.

I was surprised to see this on here. I loved some beck when this came out. I had a huge beck phase. I bought all of his albums (on cd of course). I still enjoy the hell out of this one. The remixes are just as good too. Hell yes.

ok white boy !

Nice blend of Alt-Rock, Hip-Hop, & fuzzy Garage Rock riffs. Great production on this record.

Miami ceviche restaurant

wonderful, always

I don't Stan for Beck, but always enjoy it when it is on. Every album has a couple of standout tracks and the rest is usually good to very good. That said, I rare to never play an album through so this was a fun listen for me. I actually went through it twice. Beck seemed to be on a bit of a hip hop kick on this one, with some significant Beastie Boys influences present from the Paul's Boutique and License to Ill era. I love that. I also love Bosa Nova, so was pretty stoked to hear that present on a couple of tracks. I found this album really did deserve a close listen. Top 1000 record? I am not sure about that, but it was a good time.

Standard 2005 indie. Hits like E-Pro and Girl stick out as the best. I enjoy the variety of sounds and styles while still holding a similar energy. The sounds of California and Hispanic influence are fun. I enjoyed this more than I wanted to.

Beck has always been rhitmically bizzare, always slower than you expect him to be but just perfectly Beck. I was listening to this album while coming back home from a Fontaines DC concert and it fit perfectly. I’d give it a 5 but with Beck its always like everything’s here but something somehow is missing. Good album

I’m impressed every time I listen to Beck. Should really listen to Beck more often.

My beck guer is perfect for this weather

really hard rock opening - not my favorite style, but it does grab your attention right from the beginning i like it more than I think i would! 4

Good rockin’ album; one of Beck’s better efforts; nice variations

Great grooves. Why do I never listen to Beck?

4.1/actually gave this one multiple listens and it kind of goes off

First song bad, others pretty good. Passable melodies and interesting sounds

Witty, funny, sentimental, every tracks pops like a surprise, this is a new must-hear to me. Fav. Track: Broken Drum

Fun! Great drums

Groovy. Appreciate Beck's restlessness and the coherent sound of this album.

I am so impressed by the originality and production on this album. I need to explore more Beck.

Beck was the playful wonder child of the 90s. It’s still a joy sitting beside his rhythmic voice playground, listening.

Honestly, pretty cool album. Beck is extremely underrated even if he is popular. He has his own distinct voice that gets expressed in different genres. Does this sound more commercial? Yeah but it's driving the market to be more diverse.

It's a banger.

this is pretty great though it lacks the wild genius of early beck which is only to be expected because this is middle-aged beck

Solid album! Classic Beck in terms of his diversity of music. Hints of Hip Hop in a great rock album.

No private session used for Spotify as it's another album I had in heavy rotation for a while. It's not one of my favorite Beck album, but I still like it a lot. Lots of good, head nodding rhythms when a nice collection of different instruments to keep it interesting.

Forgot how good this is!

A very listenable blend of quirckiness

Really liked the grooves throughout the album. Vocals were hit or miss for me but enjoyed. Probably a 3.5 but I’m feeling nice

Some fun variety of style!

I've always liked Beck. Always liked his everything-but0the-kitchen-sink approach to music. Definitely a talented guy. This album I wasn't too familiar with. I've seen the cover many times, but never heard the music before. I liked it quit a bit. Not sure I'd buy a copy, but wouldn't mind the songs popping up on my playlist. Favorites: "Girl", "Broken Drum", "Rental Car"

Solid album, would give it another go easily

Really catchy, start was super strong, but dragged a little 3/4 through before it picked up again. I think I need to get back into Beck

Started great, finished weak.

Honestly a lot of this is pretty boring with some weird stuff sprinkled in and very repetitive. I can be okay with repetitive as long as the instrumentals are switching things up and being interesting. I feel like Beck had good ideas but just couldn’t execute on them super well. There were some good songs though. I really liked Broken Drum quite a bit.

I liked this one a lot

Need to listen to this again. There's something about this album.

love trip-hop so much goated genre fr

I liked this. Funkier than I expected. Can't say I know much of beck. If asked i could probably only point to Loser and everyones gotta learn sometimes (from eternal sunshine?). Will give this another listen

Good album

Another standout album from Mr. Hansen. It's one of my frequent go-to listens whenever I get the itch for some Beck. I overplayed Odelay to the point of exhaustion, so this one fills that void perfectly.

Cool record, never listened before except Girl. Beck is someone I never think of listening to but always enjoy when I hear. I think I like Odelay better than this but still a good record with distinctive Beck sound.

Better then I was expecting. I hadn't listened to much of Beck past Odelay.

I like this a lot, but it's not as good as Odelay.

Very big fan of Beck’s work. I remember Guero being the first album of his I heard and one of the first albums in general I really got into. Overall I prefer quite a few of his other albums over this, however it is still really good and I feel definitely belongs on this list.

lowkey bangs

No clue what to expect, let's go. Oh wow, another rock album! What a surprise! Ok despite that initial sassy reaction I do like this. Fuck yeah. Ok, I'm banging my head, I'm moving, that was great. This is so much fun holy shit, reminds me a lot of Gorillaz, I guess this is an influence on them? Anyway yeah, Que'Onda Guero is amazing. Total mood shift, but I'm not complaining too much cause this is still good. Yeah, Girl shows a completely different side but keeps the quality. Really enjoying this. Missing is another shift, but closer to the second track. I like it too, and could see myself liking it even more with more listens. Same is said about Black Tambourine. I don't have anything else to say other than hey, I'm loving this. So far I've liked 5 out of 5. I don't know what genre this is at this point, but you bet I'm enjoying it. Beck is really just doing whatever, going changing genres with every song, and I'm definitely here for the ride Hell yes... well... I'm not gonna make that obvious dumb joke. I do like it, but probably my least favourite so far. Yeah, scratch that, Broken Drum is my least favourite. The first track here I've wanted to skip. Scarecrow is better, but maybe a bit too long. Go It Alone just sounds cool. At first I didn't love it, but the further I got into the track the more it grew on me. Yeah, this is fire Yet again, he changes shit up. Farewell Ride sounds like a more modern take on wild west. I like it. Rental Car is fine but not too exciting. Emergency Exit too. Final track lifts the mood a bit. and leaves a better last impression. Overall, I really enjoyed this! The first half is better than the second, but there are never any bad moments here, just less exciting ones. Great experience. It really feels like Beck was doing what he felt was right for each track. Again, it seems I don't have that much to say for my positive experiences here. I will say though, this really rejuvenized my interest in this whole experience. Well, bye!

I think this is my favorite Beck album.

You always have to appreciate when an artist manages to cover a wide variety of styles in a collection of pieces without it getting jarring. This album is all over the place and chaotic in a really good way.

Really fun genre-blending album. I love how it still flows sonically even while doing a lot of experimenting. Will be listening again soon.

8/10 Songs added to playlist: - Que' Onda Guero - Black Tambourine - Send a message to her

I’ve never listened to this album before. It was nice and easy. Rounding up from 3.5.

I tend to enjoy Beck’s quirky style of music, and this album was no exception. Not my favorite album of his, but totally worth a listen. Odelay, Modern Guilt, and Morning Phase are definitely better. 3.5 ⭐️ rounding up.

My type of Beck album: not too weird, not too slow, eclectic mix of genres.

So much personality! I loved it. Fantastic album, very musical. It stuck with me for a while after listening to it.

3.5 rounded up

Pretty solid, little boring towards the end.

It was pretty solid. I liked the vibe. Earthquake weather and Que Onda Guero were probably my faves

Solid 4. Some pretty solid songs throughout, just got kinda boring towards the end. Reminded me of Cake and stuff my dad listened to when I was younger.

Enjoyed all the songs and album had good flow

One of the best listens so far. Overall quality music, loved his voice over the lyrics. All songs were enjoyable.

Good vibes, good album, some pretty good songs. low to mid 4

5/5 quality for first 2 songs Saw the vegetable man in the vegetable van 🗣️🗣️🗣️

Solid stuff

Very positively surprised I liked that

I don’t really get Beck and think this is an odd album but .. I liked it! Worked for me against all odds!

[7/10]

Fire!! I love how “90s” this whole album sounded. Kept my attention the whole way through without sounding monotonous. A nice break in the duds I’ve been getting.

Great album. Have always been a fan of Becks work. Love that he’s willing to take chances and try new things

it's all over the place, but in a good way

Yeaaaah! Sounded good. I never heard about this Beck before, but it was a nice surprise. I'm gonna give it 4 stars.

Very good enjoyed it.

I have so many happy memories of this album, and I'm delighted to find how well it's aged. Probably it benefits a bit from how poor most of what came after this was, but it's undeniably great.

Very good guero

2nd fav Beck project....

One of my favorite albums from my childhood. Happy to listen to it again.

Really enjoyed it, will definitely relisten

Beck is such a dynamic musician and songwriter. The way he infuses different world music I to his albums is brilliant. 3 or 4 of my top 10 Beck songs in this album.

Not my favorite Beck album but dude is a genius

As the great philosopher CMills-STU once said “this album is a banger”! A new discovery for me! Beautifully crafted with many different types of music formed into a solid piece of work! This will be in my listening rotation!

Crunchy grooves, toe tapping rhythms, very eclectic, but that’s Beck! A fun listen and very impressed!

Very weird and different, but good artist

I can see why Foster the People sound like that. This is good

alright

Decent. Most of the songs sounded a little too similar, but I really like this vibe. 7/10

Great album love becks sound and eclectic musical soundscapes. I would say that maybe a little long only thing stopping it being five stars.

I frequently take Girl out for a spin, but I had forgotten how good Guero was as a whole. Front half stronger than back half; alongside Girl, E-Pro, Hell Yes and Scarecrow are standouts.

sounds quite dated, but some serious bangers

Interesting. Lot of catchy songs. Listened multiple times so that’s something.

Good Spanish latina vibes. Feelin little dizzy from listening to this, as I`m not used to this kind of content from Beck.

I have enjoyed this a little less than "Odelay" but it's still a solid album. Beck is a king of mixing the genres and making them very accessible to a casual listener. 4 stars

BECK SAYS A HOMOPHOBIC SLUR IN SPANISH ON THIS ALBUM #CANCELBECK #BECKISOVERPARTY the man knows how to make a sick beat it must be said. i do often really like his voice and the rhythm of it but there were a couple of songs on here (”earthquake weather”—the minor key part (?)—and “hell yes”) where i liked the beat SO MUCH that i wanted to be able to focus on it without his vocals clogging the airwaves. i really like the oscillation between weird funky upbeat songs and then the more melodious droning songs (”hell yes” into “broken drum,” which is such a beautiful song)—that kind of variation was sorely missing on sea change, so i appreciated it here. i just looked it up and the dust brothers produced this album so that makes a lot of sense as to why i liked it so much. and where the sick beats came from. fav tracks: broken drum; qué onda guero; scarecrow; hell yes; farewell ride; earthquake weather; emergency exit; girl

that was amazingggg I really liked that. had a lot more of the weirdness I enjoy compared to the other beck album we had this week. he does so many weird things with his arrangements and the chords often feel kind of unexpected, like it's subverting where my ear thinks the sound is going which makes it very exciting.

Þægilegt sound á þessari plötu, án þess að vera alveg Mellow eins og mjúku plöturnar. Þetta er ekki meistaraverk. Þetta er hrátt, skemmtilegt og þétt.

Þétt og góð Beck plata sem hafði farið undir radarinn hjá mér. Earthquake weather viðeigandi þessa daganna.

I liked this. I added two songs to my playlist which might be the most of any album so far? Broken Drum was sad. Overall really enjoyed the vibe.

I enjoyed it. There was a good variety of sounds on the album

Really really enjoyed this listen. Beck has an uncanny ability to pull catchy melodic lines and infectious grooves out of thin air, then build an immersive track around them. Wide ranging musical influence is evident in all of his work, with Guero leaning into Spanish style instrumentation, lyrics, and musical motifs. The range of styles blend fantastically, and is still distinctly Beck. Fav track: Scarecrow

I had this one when it was new. Fun, varied album.

So nice I played it twice

It’s a solid album. I think it has a cohesiveness that I weirdly want to break up and have the songs sprinkled throughout different playlists rather than listen in one go though. Maybe that’s because some of it started sounding too similar, especially around the middle, and in particular with the drum beat and bass combo. But I still enjoyed it and saved like half the album for future listening. I think Beck just shines more when you catch a single song here and there. Feels like his uniqueness loses something when compared to himself. I’ve listened to this album before and likely will again. A lot of really good songs here I am excited to again.

I like Beck’s style overall and loved the first few songs, but the album hit a low around “Missing” and “Black Tambourine”. I also loved “Broken Drum” as a tribute to Elliot Smith and the album finished strong. I’m between a 3 and a 4, but I’m feeling generous.

This one’s a huge surprise for me. No idea what to expect coming into it, but I really enjoyed it. I felt like they had a lot of discernible melodies and I found myself vibing to multiple songs as if I had heard them before. I like their style and while lyrics didn’t stick out to me, their ability to write catchy, engaging songs is definitely there. Great album!

Love an album with a Rock Band 2 song on it. There’s a lot of variety in each track that keeps you on your toes, at least in the first half, but it still stays within the same realm so it’s not too outrageous of a jump from song to song. I have listened to this album more than a handful of times, and it doesn’t ever disappoint.

Really cool album. A lot of variation in the song styles. There were a couple I knew as well. I like Beck and I'm excited to get some more albums.

Very classic alt rock.

Beck goes all over the map with this one. From classic folk, to pop, electronic, and there are point where he starts rapping like a Beastie Boy. It's all fun and weird.

This is a good Beck record, better than the sad one we got a few weeks ago. It’s got a good mix of genres while all being very much “of Beck” as it were. E-Pro is a certified FIFA banger, so I knew it wouldn’t be all bad. I also enjoyed “Earthquake Weather” and “Hell Yes”, especially because all three are different styles. Toward the end of the record things got a bit worse. “Farewell Ride” went too far in to corny cowboy territory and “rental car” was a bit too offbeat for me. Overall it was good. Would listen again.

This is more like the Beck I Remember. Lo-fi indie alternative fun. First track is a banger, not too many other memorable tracks here. An easy listen.

Sounds like Beck trying to sound like Beck, which is slightly disappointing because Beck did that ages ago.

beck to the future

Beck in his funky phase. Always delivers something interesting, and he has talent bursting out of every pore.

I enjoyed this without really having an awful lot to say about it. I was slightly disappointed to find that the tracks I already knew were the best on the album, but that’s kind of a hazard of this whole process. But it was chilled out and a good soundtrack to a sunny Friday afternoon.

Have never listened to a Beck album. Glad this site encouraged me to give one a go.

Kids, THIS is how you mix hip hop and rock.

With Beck you never know quite what you’re gonna get. This time he went a decade back in time and revisited a sound closer to his mid 90’s-albums. If you like those, you will ultimately like this. If not, you will probably be quite bored - and I totally understand. Me? I’m in the first camp fortunately.

I was not expecting to enjoy this album as much as I did. Every song is tonally different and there are heavy Latin and electronic influences to an alt rock project that seem to merge well together. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Erinnert an Gorillaz. Sehr gut.

Hell yeah great album, 8/10

Good garage rock

'Hammer my bones on the anvil of daylight.' Something about this record is certainly 'hammering,' since the first thing you notice are the drums: heavy but tasteful and illuminating. Having never heard a Beck album before, I wasn't expecting rhythm to lead the way, but I sure wasn't bitter that it did. It's a record w/o genre tho not exactly w/o focus. A legitimate criticism to extend, however, is along the lines of: what is it all about? where is it all going? It's not competence w/o substance, but w/o vision or intention. But sometimes I feel: who really needs those qualities? I guess what I'm looking for is believability, that sticky thing. What we get is more hammers: 'I prayed heaven today / Would bring its hammer down on me.'

Gut zum Rauchen

Good record definitely worth listening to

Really liked this o e.

solid album. i really like beck's style and here it's got a nice sort of mid-00s indie feel with a teeny bit of hip hop mixed in at points. he makes interesting music and i do appreciate it, but here the bulk of the songs were good, not great. the highlights for me were 'e-pro,' 'girl,' and 'go it alone.'

Reminds me of Manu Chau. Beck kinda fucks in an alternative way

I have a soft spot for Beck and Guero. On the edge of the 3, but gave him a bump because of that soft spot.

Going into this I knew and liked the single E-Pro and I know that with Beck you are going to get an eclectic mix of sounds. I also had heard the song Girl before, although given the fairly generic title I didn't realise it was on this album. Also not sure why Send A Message to Her which is a bonus track isn't on the original album as it's very catchy and somewhat reminiscent of his Odelay sound. I'll give it a four.

Groovy, quirky, cool. This is one of my favorite Beck records. It has such a nice tone and flow to it and the harmonies make it so easy to listen to. Beck’s voice is of course unique in its own right, adding a somewhat somber feel to his tracks, but fitting perfectly over the instrumentation. Great record.

I just can't help but like Beck. So sue me.

Beck is good

A bit repetitive, but good

Beck is great man

Love this album. The first half is more my speed as the second half mellows more, but still great.

I always enjoy Beck albums. They keep you on your toes with the varying styles.

Really nice album definitely some experimental stuff for 2005. Really need to hear some more beck albums

Loads of great tracks, really enjoyable listen

Actually liked this a lot more than I thought, maybe I’m getting old. Still a weird Scientologist though isn’t he

++: Qué Onda Guero, Girl, Black Tambourine, Earthquake Weather, Hell Yes, Scarecrow +: E-Pro, Missing, Broken Drum, Go It Alone, Farewell Ride, Rental Car, Emergency Exit 7,9/10

Love Beck.

Man...Beck is awesome.

This album was ok. But it didn't excite me. Nothing horrid. Nothing great. Boring voice though. I imagine he's really dull live? (apparently he's not!!). Second listen. Better. I was going to give it a 3. Then a saw I gave Odelay a 4. And after the second listen I guess this has grown on me in the same way. If I had more time then I would listen a bit more but this 1001 Album thing is relentless. It will stay in my Spotify library though.

Ah, my fave Beck album! Beck's weirdness and talent come together perfectly on this concept album. His other stuff is excellent but doesn't touch Guero. His tone is unusually consistent across instruments, vocals, and the weird "Beck" touches that he likes to throw in songs. The overall effect is unusual but not at all dissonant. Would be five stars if it broke my overall experience with Beck: catchy, but doesn't move me.

This album is peak Beck. You have the radio ready pop-rock Beck with Girl, Go It Alone and Earthquake Weather. Then you have classic alt-rock Beck with E-Pro, Rental Car, and Black Tambourine. Can't forget about the tongue-in-cheek hip hop inspired Beck with Hell Yes and Que'Onda Guero. But to make sure no stone is left unturned, you also have singer-songwriter Beck with Missing and Broken Drum, lo-fi blues inspired Beck on Farewell Ride, and lastly, the more abstract Beck with Emergency Exit. Truly, Guero is a "complete" Beck album.

J'adore cet album.

Pretty chill. Maintains a consistent mood without being boring. Flows right along. Not really a banger but good background/hangout music.

Surprisingly good. Bounced around genres and styles but overall a really solid album. I liked this one!

Something light techno pop indie rock

Never gave Beck a chance. The Album is really pretty good with feelings of traditional blues mixed with electronic, and even some 70s funk feels.

It starts as good as Odelay, but it drops off a bit as it goes on. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (just). I was maybe a bit stingy with Odelay, which could have been ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.

Ah amazing nostalgia for Girl for our year 12 Macdonalisation video. What a banging tune! This was a great album I thought. Fun poppy hits. Good stuff Beck

I generally like Beck and he has some absolute bangers. But sometimes I do get grated by him just saying random stuff in places. This album was good and had some interesting tracks, not as good as some other Beck ones but still good.

Innovative and different / would listen again

The amount of style change throughout this album is amazing, I like that it shows his ability to create different vibes for different songs and he doesn’t just follow a formula, however it made the album as a whole a little confusing for me. It doesn’t feel very cohesive at times. The contrast of sweet sad lyrics and dark background and outro music in broken drum made it a favorite for me. And I have to go with the masses on girl, it’s a banger. My other highlight was missing, I really like the lyrics of this one. Unfortunately as much as I loved go it alone it was ruined for me by the amount of nah nah’s in the song, just feels like cheap chorus writing. He also did this in E-pro, and with yeah’s and lala’s in rental car which I didn’t love. Overall because my enjoyment listening to this album it’s probably 4 stars but truly as an album and not based on individual songs I liked it’d be a 3 because I don’t think its super put together to be an album.

Originally was kinda annoyed by this album, and the first half still kinda annoys me for some reason, I think it’s mostly just the mix of his voice not being my favorite and all the weird sounds he used with the strange vibes, but the tail end of the album had some good songs I did actually enjoy quite a bit after some more listens. Edit: (3->4) how did I not see this before, phenomenal album, love all the weird sounds now. Guess it just had to grow on me. Good stuff from my boy Beck.

Given his humble beginnings, Beck is damn near a musical genius. I don’t love everything he does, but he can spin a story with music, and rarely records without purpose.

This is really an undiscovered Beck album for me. I know some of these songs, but I really missed this when it first came out. great to discover a new album!!

I think this is a fun album. It’s really creative sounding, especially the first few tracks. I’d give it a 7ish/10

Honestly, not a bad album. I never seemed it out before. But it is a good pop album.

Probably a 7 out of 10er. Giving an extra point because if Beck's coolness. Love the production on most of his stuff.

This is a 7.5 from 10. It’s better than a 7 but it’s not an 8, I’m rounding up. Loved the wild eclectic nature and though I never find Beck a chore to listen too, neither do I have him on repeat.

drei bis vier

Strong guitar work. Overall good album.

Foot tapping and ear worms throughout this album.

Not timeless, and certainly not the best Beck album (that's Odelay) - but still super enjoyable.
