Reviews (page 7 of 12)
Nice and chill, enjoyed it. It's a bit sad that Superstition was not in this album, but hey - we're discovering completely new albums. Stevie did a wonderful job!
Some familiar/comforting Stevie Wonder chord progressions and melodic styling in here, even though I only knew one of the songs.
I really like Stevie Wonder! This album had great polyrhythm and interesting melody lines. I’d like to listen to him more to like him better
Another Stevie Wonder classic!! The fourth album now to be included from his unbelievable 70s run. Should’ve included Music Of My Mind too while they’re at it, Stevie deserves it more than many if the other top representes artists. Anyhow, don’t have anything clever to say. Just a great record!
Hurja banger stevie e så nice
Another great album. I marked 4-5 songs as favorites, starting with Boogie On Reggae Woman (which was the only song I knew) and They Won't Go When I Go (which is so beautiful).
The second half of this album was better than the first; but while it's evenly good overall, it rarely rises to great.
While I enjoyed many of the songs I'd never heard before (You Haven't Done Nothin, and even the downer They Won't Go When I Go), it's really hard to know Songs in the Key of Life is out there and rate this higher.
First track sounds like the Vulf playbook.
Great album to showcase the range of Stevie's work. Started pretty slow, very gospel, but then transitioned to more soul and funk that I prefer. I really enjoyed the reggae song in the middle, it was a nice change. Overall, solid album with a mix of good and bad, but I feel like Songs in the Key of Life has some better songs on it.
The funk/disco fusion on Boogie On ... is killer. So much of this was new to me and I really liked it.
I’ve never listened to an album from Stevie Wonder from start to finish. None of the songs were familiar but that voice! The track “They won’t go when I go” was so different from what I knew of his music. Enjoyed this album.
This one was too varied with the slow songs intertwined in with the upbeat ones. It's probably just me but I prefer one or the other. Each time an upbeat one ended I had to "endure" a slow one. All slow I can do, but not back and forth. LOVE Stevie Wonder though. The familiar tunes had me singing out loud.
Pretty funky
Classic Stevie
Smooth listening with jazzy beat, but also very chill.
The chillness tho
heard this one. pretty good
Too mellow
Don’t recognize these by title. Smile please sounds so clean, it's wonderful. The harmonies, the instrumentals, excellent. Stevie's voice is wonderful. Enjoyed: Boogie on reggae woman (instant head bopper), you haven't done nothin (the brass!) 4* I think I did myself a disservice by listening to this in a loud coffee shop...
Another American treasure. Every song is solid.
Wonderful for the most part, some of the tracks were kind of bleh, but for the most part a great listen. 3.75/5
Good to work too
Good
Very fun. Didn’t stick much for me though
Obscure but wondrous Stevie.
Cool Rhythm Nation influences (Janet Jackson)
Charmant.
Heaven Is 10 Zillion is a great song. Boogie On Reggae Woman is also a great song. This is definitely soul music, it’s so relaxing and nice to listen to. You Haven’t Done Nothing sounds a lot like Superstition, which is off Talking Book which is 2 years earlier. I wonder if they have a connection.
I'm not that knowledgeable about Stevie Wonder, but this definitely feels like the album of a significant artist somewhere near their peak. I love the range and expressiveness of his voice and the variety of song structure. The funk tracks like "Boogie On Reggae Woman", "You Haven't Done Nothin" and "Bird of Beauty" are immediately catchy. The sombre soul tracks (which set the overall tone of the album) can feel a bit slow and like the music isn't doing much but acting as a carrier for the vocal. The whole album has a rich tone and texture to the sound. I like the gospel elements on tracks like "Heaven is 10 Zillion...". Personally, this makes me want to go check out his funkiest albums. But this one is still a quality piece of work. 4*
Beautiful, little slower than the next one
Really solid album overall. I found myself enjoying the more upbeat tracks more than the slow ones, but none were bad!
First time listen, enjoyed it quite a bit. Under appreciated genius. He should be regarded much higher than he is. Not a good album for running but glad it was in the background during early football games (muted). Please Don't Go is the unheard gem for me.
ну он конешно слабее следующего, но кое что есть
i could have sworn it was Cee-Lo on back up vocals on Heaven is 10 Zillion… Don’t know how I wasn’t familiar with this album but I loved it.
You know, I used to have a velvet Stevie wonder painting, and I also have never listened to a Stevie wonder album. I’ve only ever heard him live on award shows and special performances, and his early stuff is amazing.
A true classic. Stevie was really hitting his groove on this album. Smile Please sets the mood. Relaxed chic sounds make me close my eyes and drift away. Heaven Is Ten Zillion Years Away has a beautiful bounce forcing my head to bob and weave... Boogie On Reggae Woman propulsion...moving me forward. The slinkiness of Creepin'. You Haven't Done Nothing. Features the Jackson 5 singing background vocals. They sound like great backup singers, but not adding anything any other backup singers couldn't match or do better. Great sing! It Ain't No Use...smooth and soaring! They Won't Go When I Go...covered later by George Michael...but nobody does Stevie Wonder like Stevie Wonder! :-) Not my favorite Stevie Wonder, but an excellent listen.
Stevie wonderful
Enjoyed
If you don’t have a smile as big as Stevie’s after listening to this, then there’s no hope. It would appear to me that Stevie understands the true gravity of music, its full potential, and what’s more, he can harness and handle it. He understands agony, and pain. He understands love, and passion. He can carry the sole to the highest splendor, and then he can drop the stankiest of funk. A true magician. A treasure.
Few artists out there had an imperial phase quite like Stevie Wonder. "Fulfillingness' First Finale" comes slap-bang in between two of the greatest albums of all time (1973's "Innervisions" and 1976's "Songs in the Key of Life"). As such, it's difficult to judge it on its own merits and not in comparison to the very best of Stevie Wonder. Coming after a near-fatal car accident for Wonder, "Fulfillingness" is a slab of dreamy and expansive soul, equal parts solemn and joyful. In comparison with his earlier material, my impression was that it's slightly more mellow, a fair bit more lush and rich, striking a warm and contented tone. The opening two tracks, "Smile Please" and "Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away", are packed full of ornamentation, much of which is played by Wonder himself: electric piano, clavinet, Moog bass, drums and percussion as well as his trademark harmonica. There's also a huge roster of backing vocalists which add great depth to the sound: Minnie Riperton is hiding somewhere in the mix of "Creepin'" and "It Ain't No Use", while the Jackson 5 add some "doo-wops" to "You Haven't Done Nothin'" and the Persuasions lend a heavenly choral backing and countermelodies to "Please Don't Go." "You Haven't Done Nothing" and "Boogie On Reggae Woman" are the only singles here, and they are very much the outliers: nowhere else on the album will there be an opportunity to dance as much as this. "You Haven't Done Nothing" calls back to "Superstition"'s caustic funk, coming very close to the same impact with tremendous energy and anger. "Boogie On Reggae Woman" is a bouncy, synth-driven strut, heralding from some alternate universe where Wonder made the Bee Gees' "Jive Talkin'". On the other end of the scale, "Too Shy to Say" is a heartaching ballad which is beautifully pitched to just piano and some tasteful lap steel. If "Creepin'" and "They Won't Go When I Go" dial the introspection up slightly too much, they're rescued by the Latin-tinged, "Bird of Beauty". With its lovely syncopated rhythm and Wonder's vocals reaching for the sunset, "Please Don't Go" is a stellar note to send the album out on. All in all, "Fulfillingness" is a very good record. Even though it lacks the scope or universally beloved mega-hits that many of Wonder's best albums show off, his voice and instrumentation is in fine form as ever.
I knew some of Stevie Wonders' albums already but knew nothing about this one. His classic era is great and this album fits in nicely. It doesn't impress quite as much as 'Innervisions' or 'Songs in the Key of Life'. But it's still great to hear more from this period.
Son intéressant, pas eu le temps de faire l'écoute totale
A very very very beautiful album!! quite a bit of hidden gems (like the brazilian samba song omg) Stevie Wonder the multilingual!! 8.2/10
This isn’t quite as good as his sublime best but there are still a good few bangers in there. Such a talented man
It's not this albums fault that it is sandwiched in between the two best Stevie Wonder albums (which mean some of the two best albums ever). But upon a second listen, this is a great album and I love basically every track so I don't know what I was thinking.
Too much God, otherwise absolutely brilliant.
A great album, nothing bad to say!
Cool, kannte die Platte noch nicht.
WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW
The drifted away pleasantly for a working Friday. Stevie is at his best when he effortlessly knocks them out and sequences a series of songs into a single album. They Won't Go When I Go is sublime. Boogie on Reggae Woman is far better than it should be. Controversial: Stevie's glorious five album run in the early 70's is even better than Bowie's golden years.
I love it there's so much heart in this
I was ready to rate this 3 stars, but there are some hidden gems in here that bumped it up just a little. Creepin' and You Haven't Done Nothin' are both amazing.
Smile Please - 8.5/10 Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away - 8.2/10 Too Shy To Say - 7.9/10 Boogie On Reggae Woman - 8.1/10 Creepin' - 8.6/10 You Haven't Done Nothin' - 8/10 It Ain't No Use - 7.6/10 They Won't Go When I Go - 9.2/10 Bird Of Beauty - 8.3/10 Please Don't Go - 8.2/10 Fulfillingness' First Finale - Stevie Wonder - 8.4/10
There's a few standouts early (Zillion Light Years, Boogie, and They Won't Go), but as I listened to it several times, the groove and energy is soulful and enjoyable. I was only familiar with the George Michael version of They Won't Go, so was pretty stunned that this is where it came from... a pretty dark and quiet turn on the album, but amazing.
Good vibes
Zajímavé, jiné, než obvykle poslouchám
Stevie Wonder had a truly masterful run of albums throughout the 70's, and this is certainly one of them. While not strictly smooth soul, these songs are incredibly smooth. Wonder is a master, no doubt about it. Hate to compare apples to apples but Songs in the Key of Life is still the magnum opus in his discography. Feels like everything else pales in comparison. Even though the quality of Key of Life shines bright, this album is still worth it's salt.
Classical album by Stevie Wonder. Simply goes super well. You can not be sad when listening to this. 4/5
Very pleasant, I enjoy it , should listen to Stevie more
Stevie is Stevie, but only a couple complete songs, and the rest just feels like melodies for him to play over and fade out.
Stevie wonder is a classic
A good one not my favorite SW album
-1 for god song. Yo boogie on Reggae woman kinda goes crazy for a 1974 song. Creepin' instrumental FIIIRE You haven't done nothing banger afffff they wont go when I go kinda snooze fest
Really good album I was not familiar with. I don't think Stevie can make a bad album.
calming songs are a little long
Can't go wrong with some Stevie wonder, great sounding album from a legend of the game.
Stevie Wonder is always fun to listen to. Not my favorite of his but still great. Rating: 4.3
I think every album recorded by Stevie Wonder in 70s or 80s should have a base score of 4 out of 5, going to max in case of even higher greatness (or higher ground). In case of "Fulfillingness First Finale" we have a really good album, with some great songs, like "They won't Go When I Go". I just love this kind of funky rhythm, some epic vocal coordination with choir sounds, and an amazing outro. Rest of the record is good and enjoyable, but not as impressive as this song.
blind man got to me🤧
Vibes all around, Stevie Wonder is the goat!!
Great album, part of the majestic streak of Stevie Wonder's 70s albums, smooth instruments and great songs
I
Stevie Wonder does a fantastic job of keeping it upbeat while also staying in a relaxing mood throughout the album. I know he's not yacht rock but this kind of music fits right in when I want to enjoy a stressfree day.
'Classic Stevie' describes it well
It’s Stevie
Stevie wonder has a really flexible voice and his vocal control is just amazing. His range in terms of musicality is also so interesting. Within a single album, it feels like he explored a lot of different ideas which is cool. "They won't go when I go" is a really interesting one, might be my favourite just because it's so theatrical/dramatic.
Great album, gets you in the feels
nice vibe, great singing but not my usual cup of tea
Its Stevie. Smooth. Sexy. R. And. B. Funky. Listening to this i completely forgot it was a Friday and I was at work. 4/5
Great album lots of hits I didn’t realize were stevies
Unexpected. Nice coherent album but none of the Stevie Wonder well known hits.
4/5 Fantastic album that really hits its stride in the second half. They won’t go when I go feels like a precursor to Elton John’s funeral for a friend. Please don’t go has so much fire and soul in it, similar to As.
Not my favourite SW album but still better than most other albums
Really love the sound and the album seems kind of unknown
Nice stuff indeed
Hm I'd never really listened to Stevie Wonder. I like the vibe. He's got a really nice smooth voice. LOL Boogie on Reggae Woman. I like that title. Electric boogie, in its infancy. I like the disco feel on You Haven't Done Nothin. The piano on They Won't Go When I Go is pretty! That was a pretty song. Sound gospelly. Was going to rate it a 3 but then I read up on him a bit. He was pretty much a child prodigy. Got signed with Motown's label Tamla at the age of 11! And had a #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 at 13!
Good music, good flow, good sound
Some really beautiful soul music, Stevie is a legend for a reason
Well instrumented, impeccably played, and an effortless listen, Stevie is faultless through every second of this thing. This is the sound of an artist not pushing through uncharted sonic territory, but rather allowing themselves to enjoy the view from the summit.
Very upbeat; enjoyable!
Accidentally looped the first song for 20 minutes and didn’t mind it haha, so you could say I didn’t mind the funky vibe Solid 4**** Have no idea what the lyrics are about but they sound happy
Pretty nice
Enjoyed this. New album for me, a bit different stevie wonder, slower tempo. Really enjoyed heaven is 10 zillion light years away
I wasn't in the mood for this at first so I turned it off after three songs and saved it for later, turned out to be a banger when I listened to it again later that night
Much better than the other album
Not my favorite Stevie but still pretty funky
Kul album, massa olika typer av soul. Stevie wonder goat Favorit låtar: Smile please, Creepin, Boogie on Reggae woman, They won’t go when I go
admittedly i am a pretty big stevie wonder guy so this is not a new album to me. i went through a pretty big stevie phase in college, but i haven't actually listened to this one in full for a long time, so it was nice to revisit. prior to this listen, i think this one ranked, for me, as maybe his least out of his "classic" 4 album stretch from talking book to songs in the key of life - not saying this one is bad, but just what happens when you have a stretch of remarkably high quality music. but on this listen, out of context of that stretch, i actually enjoyed this album a lot more than i think i previously have. i do feel it is a bit more low-key than his other albums of this time period. that being said, i think beyond the two singles off the album, there is a lot of really great stuff, but i don't think it quite gets to the upper echelon of his output. still a really great album.
I love Stevie. His voice is just so smooth like butter and the instrumentation is so immaculate.
Slow burn album. Gets better the further along it goes
Of all the artists I’ve kind of known but given a proper listen for the first time during this experiment, Stevie Wonder had been the one I’ve been most consistently moved by. The transition from Too Shy to Say to Boogie On Reggae Woman alone is worth the price of admission. Gorgeous, surprisingly spiritual slice of funk.
- Classic Stevie is classic Stevie. You can't beat it. - "Smile Please" and "They Won't Go When I Go" are bangers. - Oh shit "Please Don't Go" is where it's at. - On this album if a song's title has the words "please," "go," or some combination of the two then it's going to be great.
Some great songs but not one of his best albums.
7/10
Liked this about on a par with "Talking Book" - too many syrupy ballads to be truly great. Fave track - "They Won't Go When I Go" is spine tingling - fantastic stuff!
Even his "bum bum bum diti bum" has character.
Some good Stevie tracks. Might need a 3rd listen to fully appreciate this album, as it’s mellower than other records.
This is the fourth Stevie Wonder album I've listened to in this project, all from 1972-1976. It is certainly wonderful and a great listen, but at least two of the others outshine this one.
Nice and chilled
Understated and powerful
Some definite highlights, angry funk on you ain't done nothing and sudden gospel notes on the second track. All together consistent and enjoyable -Stevie Wonder delivering what he does best
Groovy but very outgoing. no very notable songs tho
Very good album
This was really smooth
The only song on Fulfillingness' First Finale that I was familiar with was "They Won't Go When I Go", and that is because of the cover by George Michael. There is a lot of music from Stevie Wonder that I like, but I don't consistently like Wonder. Generally liking all of this album was a surprise for me. There were a couple of tracks that were just "okay" ("Too Shy to Say" and "Creepin'"). There was some energy on many of the tracks that I really liked: "You Haven't Done Nothin'" with some keyboard sounds that remind me of my favorite track from Wonder ("Superstition" - not on this album), "You Haven't Done Nothin'", and "Smile Please". I enjoyed hearing new material from Wonder (new to me).
soulful, sounded different to his other more popular music
Boogie On Reggae Woman is great. Awesome vibe, lovely fat synth sounds. You Haven't Done Nothin' is another high point, with a strong horn riff. Overall a good album, but not at the peaks of Innervisions
After listening to almost 650 albums on the 1001 list, I must assume that I should consider myself a Stevie Wonder fan. I somehow feared his songs before the list, thinking that they could be too much cool for my personal taste or even just 70s standard pop, but now I have 2 of his albums on my favorite list, and even this one that is not so great as the other 2 I received here is still amazing.
thoroughly enjoyable but not my favorite of his stuff i think
-Smile Please: very chill and gentle, groovy, pretty relaxing -Heaven is 10 Zillion Light Years Away: my favorite out of the two so far, still got the groovy vibe from Smile Please but just more interesting -Too Shy To Say: more downbeat style of song, a little too downbeat for my liking but it still has good vibes -Boogie on Reggae Woman: awesome groovy intro, love the synthy stuff in the background rest of the album was nice
Nie było żadnych najpopularniejszych hitów, ale album bardzo przyjemny, bardzo równy. Stevie Wonder to jednak jest gość.
While nearly all of us are likely to prefer having the ability to see, we would still be remiss in noting the heightened sense that Stevie Wonder undoubtedly expresses in his music. The cerebrally disciplined lyrics, the depth of his compositions, all could be played by any musician. However, what Stevie Wonder brings to the listener is an intangible experience of the man's soul.
Hell yeah not my favorite Stevie album but still a good one 👍🏻
Good album, not familiar with it.
Stevie wonder wonderfullness. Not as good relative to his other amazing albums but still take it out of the perfection of his successors you have a really REALLY good album.
i knew zero of these songs going in and despite listening to the album twice through, feel like I know zero of them still. that's the struggle with listening to music in the background while focusing on work, I guess. but I digress... this album was a great album for some feel-good Friday jams. good vibes only - thanks stevie! favorites: heaven is 10 zillion light years away, you haven't done nothin'
Man, he really cranks up the emotion dial for the second half of the album. This would have been an easy 5 star if I felt this for the whole album. Favorite track: You Haven't Done Nothin'
Pretty good :) I like the singer's voice, unique style
Album as a whole sounds pretty great, and while many of the tracks don't really excite me too much or hit the same highs as I perhaps expect from SW, there's a few pretty interesting and beautiful songs on here.
This seems to be the most Stevie Wonder album I've ever listened to by Stevie Wonder. Wide ranging topics, from relationships to social justice, and a full range of musical talent on display. It's different from front to back and never gets boring.
rupe
There's nothing quite like Stevie Wonder's style of soul and funk. It's so light and ethereal but with killer rhythm and groove. I almost don't even notice the individual instruments in the mix -- I just hear the whole sound together. Except the bass. That great, funky bass usually stands out. Excellent album front to back. A nice mix of soulful, romantic songs and more upbeat funk numbers.
I'm obsessed with the Angelo Badalamenti / Twin Peaks sounding synth that starts track 2. I know that soundtrack came like 15 years after this album but that's what that sound brings me back to. Thank you Stevie. The second track really picks up and grabbed me good. Big fan of the chorus and the bridge. Great record. Fun, exciting, romantic, lovely. All things that are his voice and are the music here.
Cool, not my favourite stevie album but it’s good. 4/5
I liked but not as much as other Stevie wonder
Круто
"Classic Era" album van Stevie Wonder. Funk album dat vooral reflectieve nummers bevat, met een enkel protestnummer. Enigszins ingetogen nummers, maar wel erg leuke muziek. leukste nummer: Please Don't Go "You Haven't Done Nothin'" bevat background vocals van de Jackson 5. In 2009 speelde Wonder "They Won't Go When I Go" op de begrafenis van Michael Jackson.
Very solid showing, easy 4 stars. Very smooth and funky, melodic and not jarring. Short and sweet, classic Stevie Wonder.
This was a fun listen. Stevie just has a way with the grooves that is pretty unmatched.
I personally hadn’t heard a single song off this album before but man this is good. Cohesive soul/funk sound and Stevie’s vocals are always so smooth.
Very good. Every song is good. But it's not his best. Favorite song: They won't go when I go.
This guy plays everything but the cuíca. Crazy.
Decent 7/10
4.5/5 Fulfillingness' First Finale" is a masterpiece by the legendary musician Stevie Wonder, released in 1974. This album is a testament to Wonder's musical genius and his ability to blend different genres of music to create a unique and unforgettable sound. The album's opening track, "Smile Please," sets the tone for the rest of the album with its infectious groove and positive message. Each song on the album explores a different theme, from love and relationships to social and political issues. Tracks like "Too Shy to Say" and "It Ain't No Use" showcase Wonder's soulful and emotive voice, while "You Haven't Done Nothin'" is a powerful political anthem that addresses corruption and injustice in the government. Wonder's use of multiple instruments and electronic effects is impressive, creating a rich and dynamic sound that has become a trademark of his music. The album's production is flawless, with each instrument and sound fitting seamlessly into each song. One of the standout tracks on the album is "Boogie On Reggae Woman," which features a funky bass line and reggae-inspired rhythm that make it a dancefloor classic. "Creepin'" is another memorable track that showcases Wonder's skill as a pianist and his ability to create a dreamy, almost otherworldly atmosphere. Overall, "Fulfillingness' First Finale" is a true masterpiece and one of Stevie Wonder's greatest works. It is a testament to his creativity, talent, and ability to create music that speaks to the heart and soul of his listeners. If you are a fan of soul, funk, or R&B music, this album is a must-listen
Nice
It's always a joy to listen to Stevie Wonder. Soulful, rich, and intrinsically emotional in It's feel, this is a marvelous exemplar of Wonder's golden years.
More interesting than most Stevie. Groove, subtle, gospel and nicely layered. Great as background but interesting enough to sincerely sit and listen to. It's has a lot of fun space synth noises twiddling about but very little of that stupid honking synth horn I find so off-putting with a lot of Stevie Wonder's more commercially successful tracks. A very nice album.
det här var ju nära en femma tycker jag. riktigt gött sväng.
Some dark and dissident chords, but overall beautiful so far
Just rocks
Funky Full First Finale....
Solid album - easy 4/5 for me The album has some great songs ive never heard before from stevie. Especially the samba influences and use of Cuica in songs.
Never heard this one before, p gud
It's Stevie! I could listen to him all day everyday and just chill out. This doesn't stick out as much as some of his other albums, but it's still great.
Bin echt überrascht wie modern das Album für 1974 klingt. Richtig gutes Ding
This album is in the middle of what is considered Wonder's "classic period". And yet I do not recognize any of the songs from this album. Whereas the other albums all have songs I do recognize. Regardless, this is a real solid album throughout. It's got a lot of solid tracks, easily one I can imagine coming back to. My favorite would have to be "They Won't Go When I Go." The synth sound and Moog, man they just don't make keyboard accompaniments to piano like that anymore. It's a collection of great songs, I liked each one individually. There's not one song greater than the other, but it didn't seem to really mesh into the one album. I'm not asking it to be a concept album or anything, but it just didn't... coalesce. Maybe that's why I have never heard of this record before. The songs are really good, but as one whole album it just misses the mark.
Challenging album to rate. I don't think I knew any of the songs except Boogie On Reggae Woman (a great funky tune but different from much of the album). A lot of soft pieces that don't immediately grab you. But a lot of beautiful pieces if you really listen (like Smile Please, Too Shy to Say). Heaven is 10 Zillion Light Years Away and They Won't Go When I Go are exceptions - powerful pieces that hit you on first listen. He really pours his emotions into these songs. You Haven't Done Nothin is another powerful song, but not in a soul-piercing lyrical way, more in a fiery and up-tempo way. Not my favorite of his efforts just because there are some throwaways (Creepin, Bird of Beauty). Feels like a 3.5 with a bump for the artist not the album.
Some bops, some baby making music
4.5
I understand Stevie wonder now
Ja die Stevie weet wel hoe het moet
I love Stevie Wonder, but I prefer his more upbeat, funkier side. This is still great, but I wish there was a bit more of the funky stuff. 4 stars.
It’s no wonder that Stevie Wonder is seen as a master songwriter. Every song here is catchy, well structured and instrumentally sound. There’s a tremendous flavor happening here. One worth your time. It’s a front to back type of album that you’ll want to keep spinning.
Soul progresivo. Me ha gustado. Un 4.
I like this.
Wow. Pedal steel in the slow song. I need to listen to some more Stevie wonder deep cuts. Great album
I can't deny Stevie Wonder's talent (though this album didn't blow me away too much). He plays almost every instrument on all the songs. His obsessive and driven musical creation process results in great sounding music (but I hear he was hard to work with). He'd work for 12 hours on a song and then call back the studio musician at 2 AM to rework a song. Boogie on Reggie Woman is lovely. As a Phish fan I was so happy to hear the original, what a fun surprise. "You Haven't Done Nothin" is also a great hit piece on Regan.
A wonder, yes yes
Stevie's 70s organ period was not my favorite… until I listened to this album. Holy crap what an amazing album. I'm perplexed as to how I've never heard it. 4.5 / 5.
There was this pretty long era where it seemed like this material just poured out of Stevie Wonder... All great, unique, the kind of music that makes Soul live up to its rather grandiose name.
Quite good.
Staring to become one of my favourite artists
Great album to work to. Really enjoyed
Me encanta este álbum, fueron 42 minutos de canciones relajantes, sencillas en su arreglo pero que en dicha sencillez se encuentra el disfrute. Además, la voz de Stevie Wonder es una maravilla (pun intended).
Soulful. And then some proper jazzy funk in the middle. That dude can really play the harmonica.
Tres nice beaucoup de groove mais certaines chnason manque un peu de punch pour moi et aussi par rapport aaux autres albums de stevie wonder. 4.25
4.2 + Part of Stevie Wonder's brilliant run from '72-76. This one's got some amazing jams, notably "Heaven Is..." and "Boogie On..." There are a couple of flatter moments in the middle but Stevie keeps it moving with a bopping energy. All in all, I can enjoy this record as a close listen or playing in the background.
Pretty good, very relaxing and great background
smile please-8.5/10 zillion- 8.5/10 ~spirit part gas too shy to say- 10/10 boogie- 7.68/10 creepin- 100/10 done nothin- 7.9/10 no use- 8/10 go when I go- 9.5/10 bird of beauty- 8.55/10 please don't go- 8/10
warm, smooth, uplifting
Very pleasant easy listening. One to listen to again.
very good
Classic Stevie Wonder. Standouts: Boogie On Reggae Woman, You Haven't Done Nothin', They Won't Go When I Go Others: Creepin', Heaven is 10 Zillion Light Years Away, Please Don't Go 4/5
I didn’t make it all the way through but I really liked what I heard. I’ll come back to it for sure.
It's a definite vibe but none of the tracks really stuck with me. It's just kind of a smear of slightly funky R&B with wild, wonderful vocals liberally slathered on top. It's good, don't get me wrong. But it's not great. I was all set to give this a middling 3-star review until I hit "They Won't Go When I Go" and... well, that's a pretty good track. It's worth a star.
Stevie is great, talking book better
Favourite song: They Won't Go When I Go
What can you say about Stevie Wonder during this period? He put out masterpiece after masterpiece, and this album is one of them. The way he manages to balance lyrics that delve deep into both emotional and sociopolitical territory while continuing to be a ground-breaking musician is truly outstanding. I didn't like this album as much as Songs in the Key of Life, but you can kinda seem him building to that album here. Just an incredibly solid album filled with great songs, some that you can dance to and some that you can cry to 4/5
I listened twice through, enjoyed the funky vibes and I will be coming back for more soon
Great funky soul album. What's not to like, it's Stevie Wonder! That being said - This is the third Stevie Wonder album I've got in the generator so far, the first two being Songs In The Key Of Life and Talking Book. Personally I think this sits ahead of Talking Book, but SITKOL still remains my favourite of the three. It does have some great songs though - Boogie On Reggae Woman is very fun and groovy, They Won't Go When I Go is dark and chilling, and You Haven't Done Nothin' is super funky and sounds like a continuation of Superstition. Favourite - They Won't Go When I Go
- smile please has a really cool vibe, very relaxed but groovy beat - vocals remind me of someone i cant think of - Heaven is a zillion has the coolest vibe as well - backing vocals are really sick - the coolest gospel music i’ve ever heard - too shy to say isnt really my style but i appreciate the vocals still - lyrics are simplistic but beautiful - boogie on reggae woman wasn’t much of a stand out - creepin very laid back i like it - really simple music but groovy as - completely different as to what i though stevie’s music would be like - you haven’t done nothing is cool, one of my favs ota so far - it ain’t no use takes my number one spot atm sickest vocals and vibe - i feel like it would be samples by like tyler the creator or something or maybe kanye - they won’t go when i go is very good - OH SHIT WAIT ITS RLY ELY GOOD - WOW ITS SO POWERFUL - ok very different vibe then the rest of the album but by far one of the best - bird of beauty is unique in lyrics to the rest of the album, it is a lot less direct speaking more poetic, sven in spanish - the most feel good so far - please don’t go is the perfect wrap up to the album, doesn’t introduce much new but highlights the best qualities of the album - really impressed, didn’t expect how upbeat this album would be, i underestimated stevie’s range. Sick vibe very feel good but also powerful, simple but effective, solid 4/5
79/100: Once music veers into gospel-inspired lyrics in any regard, I usually am immediately turned off. I'm not a religious person, but even for me, the monetization of religion feels observably cheap and makes me incredibly uncomfortable. I understand that in many cultures music exactly like this is incredibly important to religious services, and I'm biased by my own cultural experiences, but as I have said in many of my previous reviews, I do not grade on a curve or in consideration of other people's tastes. With that being said, this is the first album I have listened to that was so good I found myself actually overlooking that offense. I mean, first of all, I'm a sucker for alliteration and this album title is fantastic. Why is it the finale of fulfillingness? That's not even a word is it? More importantly, why is it implied there will be more finales? That seemingly contradicts the definition of the word finale. On top of that, the music itself is also breathtakingly fantastic and fresh. I found myself repeatedly wondering what chord changes Stevie Wonder was passing through in each song, because they all were so unpredictable yet so beautiful.
This album is a bit more sparse and personal than the previous album ’Innervisions.’ That is not to say that it is minimalist by any stretch of the imagination, but there is some restraint in this album’s production. Nevertheless, like much of Stevie Wonder’s 70s output, these songs don’t miss.
This was alright - nothing jumped out at me. Great vocals and all but no major hits that I could recall. 7/10.
Do you ever feel like this album is the B-Sides to Stevie's Seventies hit records? As in Talking Book, Innervisions, and Songs in the Key of Life are all the stronger albums? A feeling that Fulfillingness' First Finale is the weakest of them all? I sometimes get that feeling. Of course, a Stevie B-side of an album is still strong. Lots to love here. I bet someone could flip this analysis on its head and say that this is a stronger record overall despite it not having some of the same "standout" singles as the others. And you know, I'd entertain that theory. I'd listen to that person. They just might have a point. So much so, that I'd look hard into the mirror myself and ask if that person could be me on a different day.
Great easy listening
Album starts a bit slow, but there are some beautiful songs on it. 3,5/5
Stevie was in his musical prime, some beautiful songs and hits in this record
The 70s called and wanted you to listen to a good album
Great
pretty good, first time listening to a whole stevie wonder album
good soul music, good instrumentals and vocals but lyrics not as much
It's Stevie W!
I think this is an excellent album, just one rung below the brilliant Innervisions. I had never heard Fulfillingness before. I loved it. Lots of great upbeat songs here and some of his most beautiful ballads. 4.5 stars
Soul progresivo. Me ha gustado. Un 4.
Great piano and great singing.
Great, but not at the same peak as the two albums before and the one after. Sombre in places, and need to be in the right mood for it. There are perhaps some similarities to Goats Head Soup in style and stature.
great album but not my favorite stevie
Gospel, soul, r&b. What’s not to love.
LP
kind of sub-par for Stevie Wonder - a bit too meandering and not terribly focused.
Is this truly great? I'm not convinced but perhaps could be persuaded.
Yeah man, love a bit of Stevie Wonder. Never heard this album before, but some great tracks on here. Really nice funky soulful grooves.
Muy agradable. Nunca le había puesto atención real a Stevie y ha sido de las mejores sorpresas de esta lista. Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away, Boogie On Reggae Woman y They Won't Go When I Go son las mejores.
Pretty damn funky
Very good stuff!
I like the joy and the funky groove. Generally not my style though.
Really good album - You Haven't Done Nothing was a highlight, reminded me of Superstition.
hiii huu hii huu... kyllä hymynnulikkaa tulee naamavärkkiin kun sokea mustamies hoilottaen pistää., hyvää settiä ei ole pätkää missä alkaa VITUTTAAN. tällästä se musiikki oli,,, lviing in the moment ei MITÄÄN AUTO TUUNAUKSIA..... sing me a song youre a piano man.. paras song they won't go when i go
Starts off pretty weak, but gets going a few songs in. It's no Songs in the Key of Life, but what is.
It's a good time, Stevie is out here doing what he does best. He gives you heartfelt songs with a lot of intricate instrumentation and fun experimental fusion of many funky styles. But it's not my favourite of his albums. Boogie On Reggae Woman is a toe-tappin' fave for sure, it's the best track on the album. The album name is a bit stupid though, isn't it? It's clunky on the tongue. What is it even trying to say? It doesn't present to me a cohesive concept or set expectations as perfectly as Songs In the Key of Life of Innervisions do.
Had never listened to a Stevie Wonder album, nothing beyond the hits songs! Big vibes and the album flowed well. I liked the funk moments, like the signature sound stuff, but what impressed me most were the slower jams, stuff I don’t always associate with him. I’d listen again.
😎 I would deal with homophobia to attend the church of Stevie Wonder. This record makes me feel really good. It’s a very welcoming (literally) religious experience, and I think that’s a special thing to pull off considering how divided stuff like that usually makes me feel. Stevie has that sparkle to him - a humble confidence where he doesn’t have to tell you/make you feel bad about how much better he is than you - he just is and you respect it. In short, this was swag 😎
Soul
Funky
Easy listening, similar to Al Green and full of bass licks that classify as "bops" for Mr. Stevie Wonder
Pretty groovy. Lots of Stevie Wonder songs I hadn't heard. Lots of different ideas.
Swabe, hataw.
Tighter songs with some good groove
El menys clàssic de l'etapa clàssica de Wonder, el disc amb les cançons per descobrir, menys conegudes que els seus grans singles d'aquells anys. De fet, la cançó més coneguda, 'You Haven't Done Nothin'' dista de ser la millor; tots 10 temes són petites obres d'orfebreria soul-funk, on destaca especialment 'They Won't Go When I Go', magistral
OXI MANO ELE FALANDO PT DO NADA foda dms
This is our fourth Stevie Wonder album and I've been pretty mixed on the others (rating them 4, 3 and 2). My main criticism of the 3 and the 2 were that while the best tracks were great, all of the non-best tracks were really boring and utterly devoid of personality. On this one that's luckily not the case. The opener is a bit boring, but apart from that the album is great. Stevie Wonder at his best. I particularly enjoyed Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away, You Haven't Done Nothin' and Please Don't Go.
not his best album but still very good the second song is the best one
Nice!
I only really know Stevie Wonder's really famous albums so this was a very nice pleasant surprise. Tells me I need to investigate his back catalogue a lot more since this went down easy.
Happy happy joy joy
So relaxing and easy to listen to. 4/5
Highlights: boogie on a reggae women/creepin/you haven’t done nothing/they won’t go when I go. Really great album the slow songs were beautiful and heavy the funky songs were all feel good jams buttttttttt not down for so much religion in my albums.
Wow. Loved this Album. I heard some jazz versions of Bird of Beauty not knowing it was Stevie. Haven’t Done Nothing was also unexpected. Pls Don’t Go also surprised me. Reggae Woman was expected. Nice. This great artist influenced music.
Listened to on 7/19/22 4/5 Favorite song: heaven is 10 zillion light years away This album was a hodge podge of different vibes ranging from ballads to reggae but I really enjoyed it
Good album but there is a lull in the middle. Definitely not one of my favorite Stevie Wonder albums, but he has a lot of good ones.
Very atmospheric album, beautiful voice. And then there is They won't go when I go - wow!
Fresh yet free-flowing, fufillingness’ first finale fills your frontal lobe with fantastic fire, fuelling your fridays to a full field of funky fantasies. Makes you feel fresh as a funny finch. Fire ass album, 9/10
Þessi plata mætti alveg vera lengri. Ljúft áheyrnar og gullmolar inn á milli. Stevie er náttúrulega algjört wonder.
Its not his best, but Wonder just oozes quality
A splendid album by Stevie Wonder. Not nearly as long as songs in the key of life. 3F doesn’t have as many commercial hits as some of his other albums but it still contains a wide range of sounds that Stevie Wonder is capable of. There are the upbeat funky songs. The slower melodic thoughtful ones. Stevie wonder had an ability especially in the 70s to create great music. This album isn’t any different. 8.0/10
It's not his best, but it's still really, really good. Best track: You Haven't Done Nothin'
Love me some Stevie
Peak-era Stevie, this is just ace songwriting and performing. I don’t love the slower stuff as much, but at its best this is pure electric. B+
Really smooth. Great production on this one
First time listening to this album, I guess a lot of people will overlook this album and just listen to innervisions or songs in the key of life. I don’t think this is quite the masterpiece of those two albums but still worth your time
A little lesser known than his other albums, this offers some great tracks, mainly on the first half. Favourites: "Smile Please", "Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away", "Boogie On Reggae Woman"
i love his music and his style so much. i feel like i don’t have anything specific to comment on other than i love it
A few albums into the peak Stevie Wonder period here - it's not quite the high for me of his previous disc "Innervisions" nor his next one "Songs In The Key of Life" - even though there really aren't any bad moments at all here, the songs as a whole aren't up to the previous (perhaps unattainable) standards. Not really fair when you're competing against yourself, though - it's like complaining about a 33-year old Wayne Gretzky getting "only" 130 points. "Boogie On Reggae Woman" and "You Haven't Done Nothin'" are the highest of highs here. As with his other great albums around this time, the sounds and production are part and parcel with the greatness of the music and composition. It somehow feels like these songs were from the 70s AND from the distant future all at once. Could listen to this album at any time anywhere, just needed like 2 or 3 more killer individual songs to put it to a 5 for me 8/10 4 stars
Sweet and soulful. Layered and lovely. Joyous and uplifting. “It Ain’t No Use” is great.
listened to again thoughtful and funky, just what you expect from Stevie
I do really like this one. It doesn't have any of his very famous tracks on it, but its a consistently well written and enjoyable album
Going into this project, I wanted 2 main things - to explore genres I haven't explored enough, and historical albums I would otherwise likely never listen to. Listening to this album pretty much sums up every goal I had all in one, and it's great to boot. When people talk about Stevie Wonder, they often talk about him blowing them away with his best regarded work, and I don't think I quite got that feeling, but everything people love about him is on display here: the way he talks about his faith is engaging and beautiful (Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away is a stunning song); his songwriting is poignant when it needs to be with some fantastic lines and the general feeling from the album is one of both importance and joy. I think this is one that'll grow on me with time, and I can see myself revisiting it a lot - especially when I listen to more of his discography.
Amazing. 7-8/10
Great Stevie!
Stevie wonder is awesome and this album was really nice to listen to on the long drive to New Mexico.
Viddu miten kova! Innervisionissa on viel pari tykinpää bangerii, mut onhan tää samettista soundii! 4/5
Ihan jepa, ei juuri huonoa sanottavaa.
Wonderin musa kyl kestää aikaa täydellisesti. Tää ei edes hänen top3-levyjä, mut tässäkin kaikki vaan toimii. Ja pari helmeä, esim. Heaven Is 10 Zillion... ja Creepin'.
Ah aurinkoisen perjantain piristys. Ei paljon pahaa sanottavaa tästä, funk soimaan!
A lot of meh, somewhat relieved by Boogie On Reggae Woman. Then you hear the clavinet lead into You Haven't Done Nothin', one of the greatest songs I've heard. Side two is a great Stevie journey: a slow ballad that makes your heartache, a sweet bit of samba soul, with that wonderful sound of the cuica, and a great soul song that fades out with a jam. Can't go give stars because the first side is a let down, but side two is everything that genius was capable of.
Another fine Stevie Wonder album, he was certainly on a roll throughout the 70s making consistently fine albums with a nice mix of rock, pop, soul and R & B, always with a taste and beauty. This album ranks behind Talking Book and Innervisions and on a par with Songs in the Key of Life, in my opinion. 3.75 🌟
Much better than I expected. Catchy
3.5/5. Stevie Wonder is very consistent, and this album is no exception. It is exactly what I would expect from him. It's good, however, it's not the best thing I have ever heard.
Some very soulful Stevland here. Good times.
The lineup of talented backup singers Stevie has here is insane (Deniece Williams, Minnie Riperton et al). I thought Stevie might run the table and get 5's for all of his albums. This one is great, absolutely deserving of a spot on the list. There's not a damn thing wrong with it. It just lives in that 4.5 area.
I found this to be a really interesting album. The first track had some cool jazzy chord changes. Then things perked up with Boogie Reggae Woman, went trippy (and a bit creepy) with Creepin'. Like all great artists, the more you get into Stevie Wonder's world, the more you start to enjoy his music. You have to let yourself in.
Stevie in the 70s was on fire and made some of the beat music of all time. Altough this doesn't reach the heights of music in the key or inner visions it's still a fantastic album. The mix of pathos, injustice and banging music makes it a must for me.
Gladly surprised! I am still bouncing on my office chair in front of an excel spreadsheet…
Je l'ai plus apprécié que Talking Book, mais dans les deux cas, il va falloir réécouter les albums, car bien que je trouve les albums bons, je ne vois pas pourquoi il sont tant adulés.
Stupendous. Should have nine of his albums on here instead of Dylan.
I like it, kanske lite underwhelming men jag gillar det ändå
Couple of absolutely brilliant songs on this and the rest are all very good.
Stevie Wonder neophyte here, so my impressions are fleeting at best. "Ineffable" seems like the wrong word to describe these songs, but there's far too much going on to call it minimal. Subtle, perhaps: Many catchy tunes, none that I think could be covered or replicated well. I have at least two legible observations. The synths sound great, and the final three tracks are flawless.
First of (I assume) many Stevie Wonder albums on here. Opens nicely with the musical warm bath of Smile Please. Then the actually even sadder nearly 50 years on Heaven is 10 Zillion Miles Away, a gospel song about how hard it was to defeat hate. Too Shy To Say does less for me. Just a bit too slow and sad without a good reason. But Boogie on Reggae Woman is gorgeous fun with its squelchy, funky synth. Creepin is a bit dull, but then You Haven't Done Nothin is full on Superstition MK2, except it hasn't been ruined by a generation of terrible X Factor type covers. The shining diamond of this album. It does off a little towards the end - chilled piano balladry has a limit for me, but Bird of Beauty and Please Don't Go see to a strong finish. A lovely album, possibly one that struggles a little being sat between Innervisions and Songs in the Key.
Stevie Wonder fucking goes hard and this album is no exception, some absolute bangers on here
Loved it, whilst it may not have any of Stevies greatest hits its a still a great album
Thought this was pretty good, liked it better than Talking Book.
Chouette album, surtout la deuxième partie
Pas sourd, l'aveugle! Prefs: Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away, Boogie On Reggae Woman, Creepin', You Haven't Done Nothing Moins pref: It Ain't No Use
good stuff this time
4/5. Nice and jazzy at some points, prob not gonna end up being my favorite SW, but still very good
More stripped down and personal. No hits but it didn’t need any. Very good.
A pleasant listen.
While this album did not reach the heights of songs in the key of life, it was still incredibly enjoyable. I loved the variety of songs and even could hear I think the same sample for Superstition in You Haven't Done Nothin. My favorite in the album was Boogie on Reggae Woman. Also killer album cover.
Pretty good.
An album I was unfamiliar with before, but now realise is just as important as "Talking Book".
Heerlijk album en wat een stem, niet zn beste maar blijft goud
A nice album. You Haven’t Done Nothin’ and They Won’t Go When I Go (previously exposed to the George Michael cover through this album journey) were the standouts for me.
A funky hot air balloon ride…
Not quite sure - lots of filler but interesting in the end
okay - chill - not super interesting
