Reviews (page 5 of 12)

Gorgeously listenable. Surprisingly cool. They Won't Go When I Go absolute fucks.

This is another one that's like oil on water for me. Ballads just go in one ear and out the other. The first half sounds like Christmas songs. But they sound nice and I'd put them on in the background if I was visiting an elderly relative around the holidays. You Haven't Done Nothin' and Please Don't Go do get cooking. They Won't Go When I Go is haunting, I kept going back to that one. Apparently the only song on the album not written by Stevie, according to the wiki. It's a dark dirge, way more my speed than his typical sound.

The title of this album is a a lot. Say it five times fast. I like it. My head was bobbin’ immediately. Heaven is 10 Zillion Lightyears Away is a total shift. I normally hate god songs purely on principle but I love every part of this song and I can’t fully articulate why. By song three I guess every song is going to be a whole different thing. I love it. Too Shy To Say is sweet and very peaceful. What is this instrument making this sound in Boogie On Reggae Woman? You know what I’m talking about. Some of the sounds in here feel like precursors to a lot of the synthy 80s sound but funkier and funner here. They Won’t Go When I Go feels like a direct influence on Leon Bridges and that sphere. Bird of Beauty feels chaotic and a little rushed.

It feels like a cop out but I feel like this is a very good Stevie Wonder album. Stevie’s voice is incredible on this, to say the least. I feel like this is the peak of his vocals (during this specific run). I love the songwriting but I feel like I need another dozen or so listens to fully understand it. This feels like Stevie’s “Hail to the Thief” or “Yeezus.” It’s an album where he’s working on perfecting his skill set and exploring some new tools and addressing any holes in his game. It’s like when Freiza is laying waste to Namek and folks are like “dang this dude is strong. But I’m sure Vegeta handle it.” And then Frieza drops the whole “this isn’t even my final form.” Type of deal. I’m tainted by what comes next for Stevie. I think one issue with this album, (I say issue like it’s a stray lemon seed in my Water at a Michelin starred restaurant) is the lack of a radio hit that I have a history with. Given, it’s still amazing. But I don’t have Higher Groind to keep me grounded. And that’s just fine.

I love Stevie. I wasn't familiar with this specific album but did know You Haven't Done Nothin'. I liked it. I don't think this is one of his best albums, but it was enjoyable. Favorite tracks: Boogie On Reggae Woman, Too Shy to Say, and Please Don't Go.

Incredible. 4.5⭐

It’s not my usual kind of music but I can see why Stevie Wonder is such an icon. The piano and ambiance is impeccable.

Excellent album, more soul focused, nice vibrato on the vocals. Catchy singles that makes the album stand out.

Great funky, soulful album

Groovy.

Actually enjoyed a Stevie Wonder album. I think I'm getting old.

Favs: Heaven is 10 Zillion..., Creepin, You Haven't Done Nothing, Bird of Beauty

They Won't Go When I Go. Es demasiado bueno creando panoramas sonoros ste man. Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away, Boogie on a Reggae Woman, You Haven't Done Nothin', Bird of Beauty

Me encanta Stevie. A la playlist: Smile Please, Heaven is 10 Zillion Light Years Away, Boogie on Reggae Woman, Creepin', You Haven't Done Nothin', It Ain't No Use, Bird of Beauty.

I like the positivity

Stevie is a musical genius! Smooth, funky, catchy, fun and easy to listen to, with relevant, timely (and timeless) lyrics.

It's not Talking Book or Innervisions, but it's still really good! 4/5

3.5 - Good

Funky, soulful, and sexy. What else could you want?

An absolute classic. It was never my favorite Stevie record, but it was nice to revisit and listen deeper.

Hard to give Stevie anything less than a 4. Pretty good for something I've never heard. 4/5

Another reviewer said "I love music! I love Stevie Wonder!" That does it for me too. I haven't ever heard They Won't Go When I Go, and wow, what a blessing that song is. Thoroughly enjoyed this one. Thanks, Stevie!

Solid bit of Stevie, I was pleased to have a 4th one. Why not the whole classic era?

What a trip. The beats bend and twist but never settle into anything too obvious. There’s so much joy in the little turns and flourishes. Spins: 2 Playlist Additions: - Smile Please - Boogie On Reggae Woman - You Haven't Done Nothin' - They Won't Go When I Go

Classic Stevie

Hadn't heard most of the tracks on this one being more familiar with Innervisions and Songs in the Key of Life as well as his whole litany of big hits. This was characteristically great. Funky, fun music from Detroit's finest. Great stuff.

Another beautiful album that only falls short relative to the other albums he created during this stretch.

Some real bangers on this album. Still waiting for Innervisions and Songs in the Key of Life.

(78/100)

Slower than other albums of his but that classic groove is undeniably fantastic

Sehr gutes Album man braucht ein bisschen um reinzukommen aber Gold ist definitiv dabei besonders gegen Ende des Albums wird es sehr packend Special mention: Bird of Beauty Best song: You haven’t done nothing Rating: 3,9

Another great Stevie album. Although not as high on the list for me as some of the other work, great songwriting and great music.

classic from a classic period of a classic artist

Its just not possible to follow-up Songs in the Key of Life. His production is impeccable and THE standard. Just no all time songs on this one.

So good, but I have to revisit and maybe grow some more to give it a 5

Another beautiful Stevie Wonder album, how sick to dig into an artist you’ve previously not listened to much of and enjoy the crazy huge back catalogue they have. This album was a bit less hit focused but still delivered a great sound and vibe.

Not my type of music but you cant deny the talent

I can't help but compare this to Songs in the Key of Life, Innervisions, and Talking Book. Looking at it that way, it comes up short. But it's still Stevie Wonder, so nothing here is bad. I didn't enjoy this as much as the other albums while recognizing that this is still a great album.

Groovy. Please Don’t Go is my favorite.

Possibly the weakest album from his golden period, which is to say it’s not one of the greatest albums ever recorded. Still excellent, even if it lacks a truly classic single.

How could you not love this? Best Song: Heaven is 10 Zillion Lightyears Away Rating: 8/10 Stars: 4

Stevie Wonder has a voice like silk, with a handful of gravel ready to throw in at any time. I like all his hit songs, but had little experience of his album material. I was ready to like this one a lot, but instead, I like it a little. There's a bit too much "God" stuff in there for my liking, and several of the tracks seemed rather mediocre to me. It's still worth four stars, but I don't want to add it to my collection, and, as a result, I can't justify making it five.

I'm not as versed with Stevie Wonder's stuff, but I enjoyed this very much.

I don't think I've ever heard this album before, really nice, enjoyed it!

I enjoyed this album. Love a bit of Stevie Wonder, will deffo listen again. Fave songs:Boogie on Reggae Woman, It Aint No Use, Bird of Beauty, Please Don't Go

It's very good. But I just feel wrong giving it a 5. I'm not sure if Songs in the Key of Life is just in the back of my mind tapping it's foot to a variety of rhythms saying, now now. It's not me.

The fourth record of Stevie's 'classic period,' this alliterative thing doesn't have the immediately recognizable singles that Songs in the Key of Life, Innervisions, and Talking Book enjoy, but it's still a fantastic album. Slow and saccharine at times, it's yet always intricate, and possesses amusing lyrics such as: 'I'd like to make love to you / So you can make me scream'; 'When you sleep at night, baby / I wonder do I creep into your dreams'; 'There awaits you a ticket / At 'Please Have A Good Time' Station.' The bangers are 'Boogie On Reggae Woman' and 'You Haven't Done Nothin',' but it was the final three tracks that stood out most to me, especially 'They Won't Go When I Go,' a stunning, co-written alloy of Chopin and gospel.

Certainly not his best but Stevie Wonder is such a joyous artist and everything he makes just exudes happiness.

Another WONDERful album.

Few can stand with Stevie. A master. I don’t know the entirety of his catalog but this would appear to be a downbeat in mood for his oeuvre. Melancholic but uplifting. Boogie on Reggae Woman was a nice funky reprieve with a bitching harmonica solo. They Won’t Go When I Go was the highlight for me. I’ll keep this album in mind should I ever get divorced.

Introspective, soulful, inventive. Definitely a darker more reflective and personal album than the other records I have heard belonging to Mr Wonder. It does still have those great funky moments and plenty of spiritual / gospel inspired tracks. But its the darker moments that stick with me. I was taken aback by the somber and haunting sound of Creepin and They Won't Go When I Go. Please Dont Go is a classic Stevie Wonder tune, a perfect closer and my favourite track. 8.5/10

Simply wonderful

Ska in i skivsamlingen!

It’s Stevie Wonder, of course it’s going to be good. 4/5

Track 3: hits the feels. Makes me feel sparkly ✨️ it speaks to me Track 4: like the title want to boogie Track 5: this is my favorite on the album so far Track 6: a jam, a bop, so good

I was so excited for this when I saw it was coming up today. On paper it sounds like an amazing recipe, and the tracklist was unfamiliar to me. I ~have~ heard a couple of these before, but it was still a very fresh new experience. First listen, I wasn't very impressed. I read something about this being the fourth of a spurt of five classic Stevie Wonder records, and I was just dumbfounded. I felt like I'd heard better Stevie Wonder songs out there, and the singles on the project weren't as good as the singles I've heard before. They didn't feel like singles. The album was pretty great anyway so I gave it a second listen, and then it clicked. It's not just the music, which is masterfully produced. It's the energy, the concept of production and the literal production. Listening to this record all the way through is like candy, it comes in an ideal package but makes you want to consume more of it. I love the transition from track to track, the mesh of instrumentals, the details within the vocals, the lyrics and their slow burn. It's just more of a mood than a handful of great individual songs, but then when you get all personal with a track and you start to feel it and really listen to it, you realize the record is composed of Great Individual Songs. All the way through. I could argue any of it could be just a little more catchy, and a lot of these songs are too good to just be leaving on in the background without paying attention. 4.3/5 With a realistic cap of 4.7 in the future. One day isn't enough to digest a project like this.

I like most if him

Easy listening and very nice Favs: Too Shy to Say, They Won't Go When I Go

I know Stevie Wonder’s music - I’m no stranger to it. Over the years, friends have pushed his tracks on me, and it’s never been wasted effort. This album in particular is bold - he criticizes Nixon! Imagine a Black musician openly taking shots at the President today with that kind of directness. But that’s Stevie Wonder: fearless, brilliant, and impossible to pin down. His music is amazing, his lyricism and compositions pure magic. And this record sits right in the middle of his “classic period," where he was firing on all cylinders and producing one masterpiece after another. It’s proof of why he’s rightly considered one of the all-time greats.

Solid album, it's nice to listen to some Stevie that isn't overplayed

FAVO: Heaven is 10 zillion light years away, Boogie on reggae woman, You haven't done nothin', Please don't go

Fun, and smooth. I enjoyed listening to Stevie Wonder, never heard him before. This is the type of music that you can put on in the background, but its not just background noise. Its solid, I must say he has a very soothing voice.

Gotta love Stevie

This was my first tough rating. Awesome album, but does it merit 5? Maybe but I’m going 4 to avoid grade inflation.

Musical bliss. Heart-felt funkyness.

It doesnt have a recognizable Stevie hit, but still is great from top to bottom. maybe if it had a recognizable song it would elevate it to a 5/5

Stevie Wonder: Fulfillingness' First Finale: This is a really cool and unique sounding album. Every song is full of energy and is just enjoyable to listen to throughout. There's a lot of instrument variety that keeps everything fresh, though the bass guitar work on this album in particular is excellent. His voice is also great. Really just a very well made album all around. 9.5/10

Enjoyable! I added a few songs to my morning coffee playlist. Not super memorable, but I'd happily listen to this album again in the background.

Maybe it's not fair to grade Stevie Wonder on a curve here but this doesn't quite hit the same heights of his other classic period albums. "Boogie On Reggae Woman" and "You Haven't Done Nothin'" are great of course.

Ballads were there, but mid tempo and the hits elevate this record. 8/10

A great Stevie Wonder album that has this light approach to funk and soul. Some songs could've done more with vocals - it's then too smooth if you will.

I mean, he's really good at what he's doing. I listened to it three times and nothing stood out in a moment but I enjoyed the entire listen each time. Likely a good one for headphones.

Ta perro

a timeless sound. i can't see shit. top songs: heaven is 10 zillion light years away, you haven't done nothin'

Really love the vibes of this, never gave Stevie Wonder a serious listen. Very uplifting and heavenly sounding album. Favorite song is Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away

jau pirmās dziesmas pirmās skaņas uzrunā!!! typa music, kas piestāv Malai Cēsīs riktīgi patika tieši pirmās dziesmas

Stevie has better albums than this but it still was a wonderful listening experience.

Banger

I'm sure there are better albums of his, but this one was pretty good as well.

Heaven is 10 zillion it aint no use Please dont go

Very nice album. I enjoy the funky Stevie Wonder tracks the most and thankfully there's a few of those on here Standouts Boogie On Reggae Woman You Haven't Done Nothin' 4/5

yet another classic from good ol' stevland wonder

Album 854 of 1089 Stevie Wonder - Fulfillingness' First Finale (1974) Rating : 4.5 / 5 Another solid one from Stevie. He’s one of those artists who always seems to come through with quality—whether or not every track hits me personally, it’s never in doubt that what he’s doing is top-notch. This album has that unmistakable Stevie blend of heart, groove, and craft. While he’s not necessarily one of my personal all-time favorites, I’ve got a real respect for what he consistently delivers—and this one is a great example of that. Classic for a reason.

Para dias tranquilos

More subdued and sentimental than the albums that came immediately before and after, but still a great listen.

Pleasant

Yes please more Stevie Wonder from his classic period.

A cozy album that creates a great vibe. It’s less political and bombastic than Innervisions, but instead warmer and more reflective. There’s room for both groove and contemplation, and Stevie still maintains an impressively high level. 4/5

What an album! Brought me a lot of joy listening to it. I wish I could give it a five, because most of the songs are simply amazing. But three of them just don't quite cut it for me. I'm sorry Stevie. But the man is a genius! He recorded like, what, 80-90% of all the music himself. Definitely a must-listen in my book. Very happy I discovered this and had the experience of listening to it.

Hmm stevie wonderful haha

I tried listening to this album a few weeks ago, I got annoyed and turned it off. Today, I put it on while I was ironing a massive pile of shirts. And, actually, I really quite enjoyed it. While the songwriting doesn't always hit the bullseye, there's a really nice range of sounds on this album. He can sing, of course. And, the 2nd half was quite funky. It really made me enjoy a mundane chore more. And at my age, that's what you need. My only criticism was that there were songs that I felt like I'd heard them before, I'm wondering if his discography is a bit same-same... 4 Stars.

On the one hand, this is the weakest of Stevie's legendary 70s run of albums. So, you know, there's only like two certified all-timers on here. This record is a bit slower, and the vibe is definitely a bit heavier. Also, You Haven't Done Nothin' still being as relevant as ever is quite the disappointment.

Hell yeah

Good album with some GREAT tracks. Not perfect... which I expected based on other albums Stevie put out in this era.

One of my favorites as a lad. Timeless. God Bless Stevie Wonder!

Good boogie, listened to while doing soho on a sunny day

Stevie Wonder is good

How much more can I really add to the praises sung about Stevie Wonder? I'm in the camp of people who think he is one of the most talented musicians of all-time, and it would be true even if he could see. FFF is right at the center of his incredible run of albums in the 70's, at the full force of his creativity and power. It gets a little overshadowed by Innervisions before it and Songs in the Key of Life after it. It doesn't have the same chart hits as the other two, but it is more introspective, slow, and reflective, more of an album you settle into with headphones on rather than play for your friends and dance along to.

4, could be 5

Good stuff

It’s a very very good record that picks up stem as it goes deeper into the track list. Some of the songs especially on the first half feel more like Stevie Wonder by the numbers when it comes the the progressions very good but a little formulaic.really the album starts to come into it’s own unique experience with songs like creepin and they won’t go when I go slow almost bruting songs that are amazing in the context of Stevie’s perfect production of organs and synths and cherry disposition that always seems to shine through even when it’s very clear he’s unhappy with his life and the world. The song you haven’t done nothin is also a stand out with it’s rocking beat and righteous message against lawmen lying there asses off. The harmonies and group vocals throughout the album are special and add a layer of cosmic background that makes the perfect production feel more organic. Overall a very good album on it’s and much more than just a transition between two of the greatest albums ever and shows a unique side to Stevie Wonders songwriting.

Stevie Wonder's 72-78 run is so incredible. Is there a better 5 album run in music?

I'll be honest - I've never heard of this record before! I know Stevie's big hits, but nothing off this record. The first thing I notice is Stevie's incredible voice. One of my favorite voices. And then, whenever you think you know where a song is going, it goes somewhere you don't expect. This is a subtle record. The songs all feel like they could explode at one point but then they pull it back. Which is why maybe this record doesn't have any of Stevie's signature songs on it. Sophisticated, smooth, chill, virtuosic. A soul classic. FOUR STARS.

It's very admirable to have a discography both prolific enough and of high enough quality to have what everyone considers a "classics era". What an artistic run to go on. This album isnt even the best of the bunch and it's still gonna get a mild 4/5 stars from me. "Smile Please" the epitome of one of Stevie Wonder's best traits: he always sounds like he's having genuine fun in the recording booth. "Boogie On Reggae Woman" is a lively cut with that really interesting synth/keyboard lead. "You Heavent Dont Nothin" is just Stevie dipping his hand back in the Superstition" pool - are the two songs even in the same key as well? Very similar, very very similar. But I can't complain. Lastly, "Bird Of Beauty" has my favorite rhythm section, it's pretty close to bossanova with a great message about just taking a vacation and having a more relaxed mentality leading to appreciating everything around you a bit more. So hard to judge this one fairly when it's sandwiched in between a few other albums of his that are also completely excellent. As I mentioned before, a mellow 4/5 for this one. Much like Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder suffers from success - he's just amazing at both playing the keys and singing from the heart

Pas mal du tout 🙏

More subdued and somber and personal than what I normally think of a Stevie Wonder record.

I’ve never listened to Stevie Wonder. Not at all what I expected, but quite good.

Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away.

Funky 4

I wish more music sounded like this, but then it wouldn't be Stevie special would it?

Solid 3.5. Smoothest voice, but I get pretty dragged down by the slower ballads. Rounding up just for the groove that happens otherwise.

Chill record with some good songs. Became a bit too melow at the end.

Stevie wonder!

Good stuff!

I need to listen to Stevie Wonder more often

It's not his magnum opus but its darn close.

I really quite enjoyed this album. Every song up until “They Won’t Go When I Go” has been really good however I am not a big fan of this one. I particularly enjoyed “Heaven is 10 Zillion Light Years Away” and “Boogie on a Reggae Woman”. “Bird of Beauty” is quite funky and really highlights the interesting sounds that Stevie is known for. “Please Don’t Go” is a relatively strong album closer in my opinion and overall the album is solid and enjoyable! 7.5/10 rounded up to 4 stars.

It really feels like Stevie Wonder's very best is music that no one dislikes. In particular, his work from 1972 to 1976 is solid gold, and Fulfillingness' First Finale lands in the middle of this run. I will say, this has a hard time living up to its surrounding albums, but given the incredibly high quality ceiling here, that isn't exactly a damning accusation. This is still an excellent album full of really great songs, many on the same level as Wonder's best. The sound that Wonder is known for, combining soul with funk, motown, R&B and more is on full display here, and the topics discussed here are focused and consistently interesting. These songs are about love, religion, spirituality, hope and the occasional jab at Richard Nixon. There really isn't a bad song here, but highlights include Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away, which explores Wonder's relationship with religious faith, the breezy Bird Of Beauty, and the politically minded You Haven't Done Nothin, featuring The Jackson 5. I would like to make special mention of They Won't Go When I Go, which captures a tone heard nowhere else here, and carries some real gravity. It is one of Stevie Wonder's best songs ever. I will say that I don't think I connect to every song here, but I can understand that this is fantastically constructed from front to back. There is just something joyful and transcendent that Stevie Wonder's music is often steeped in, and that X-Factor is on full display here, making this a truly valuable project.

Stevie Wonder is an exceptionally talented musician, and this record certainly showcases his musical talent. His compositions are excellent, and the performances as well. He sings very well, plays the drums and gets the best out of the Rhodes and even more so the Moog. My favourite songs were "Boogie On Reggae Woman" which was super catchy and fun, and "You Haven't Done Nothin'". The latter is particularly noteworthy for its subject matter, criticizing the president with the Jackson 5 doing background vocals feels like an achievement in itself. That being said, the song is VERY similar to "Superstition". "They Won't Go When I Go" on the other hand, I found the composition noteworthy, but the tone and subject matter were pretty depressing. Having said all that, while I found the record musically excellent, I felt like it could've been a bit catchier, more dynamic and less drawn out. I like the idea of progressive soul and commend Wonder's execution, but I feel like it could've been tightened up a bit.

More classics from the world's most talented fake blind man. There was a lot to enjoy here, but honestly, none of it really stuck with me too well. I still think this record rocks, but I can't find myself scooting back to it in a hurry. The first side is unreal, but the second side seems to hold all the forgettable and songs that blur into one. That's not to say this thing is bad, it definitely isn't. It's definitely deserving of a solid 4, which just shows that even with Wonder's worst works, they are still undeniably listenable and superbly enjoyable. It Ain't No Use was the favourite for sure.

Boogie on Reggae Woman - Instruments going wild on this one. Very fun and upbeat. Creepin - Smooth You Haven't Done Nothin' - super funky, the brass instruments and layered guitars and bass working wonders. Exceptionally rousing vocals. Vocals consistently great, with some tracks standing out in this regard more than others. There's a great variety in sound and style on the album, too, with a night-and-day difference between 'It Ain't No Use' and 'They Won't Go When I Go', both superb tracks. Favourites - Boogie On The Reggae Woman, You Haven't Done Nothin', They Won't Go When I Go

Saved in spotufyz love the sound of the album.

Primetime music for the last day of school. My students agree. I named my hamster Stevie Wonder, if I ever have another one, I'll name it boogie on a reggae woman.

I am a big Stevie fan, but this album was in my blind spot, though I did know several of these tracks. I wouldn't say it is his best showing, but is still better than at least half of the albums I've listened to thus far. The problem with this list overall is that there is so much good music from all over the world and from every walk of life, but Stevie Wonder (who is an amazing artist and an all-time favorite for me) takes up space with multiple albums. The greats like Stevie, The Beatles, Zepplin, etc. should be limited to 2 or 3 albums, because even though they may have 5, 6, or 7 amazing albums, they are still that artist and very few of them change that much over the course of their careers to a point where they are truly changing music and you "need to hear this" I think this album was good, and I am glad it was on this list because it was in a blind spot for me. I will listen to it again (and again). I wouldn't say anyone "needs to hear" this album though. 7.9/10 83/1001

not stevie wonder’s best but it’s a stevie wonder album so y’know. it’s still really good

It's Stevie Wonder, of course whatever he presses onto plastic will be soulful and glorious and triumph over every other artist. Even in the darker moments of the album, the songs have that solar shimmer that Stevie has worked into a trademark sound. Favorite Song: You Haven't Done Nothin'

This would be a good album for a dinner party. Something to have on in the background while you're cooking and mingling. I vibed with it pretty well.

First Stevie wonder I've listened to. It was an amazing ride

Not exactly my style, but pleasant to hear.

Only Stevie Wonder could make an album this diverse and make it sound coherent. Very good listen

Not top 3 Stevie but still Stevie

Classic Stevie. Not his very best, but enjoyable to listen to.

Stevie never disappoints!

My favorite songs are "They Won't Go When I Go" and "Heaven is 10 Zillion Light Years Away"

I love love Stevie, I am convinced everything he touches turns to gold. However, I would not say that this is his best album. But there is something about what he does to music that makes one grin from ear to ear.

Pretty fun and enjoyable.

Gets better the more you listen to it. Particular favourites were "Creepin'", "Zillion Light Years" and especially "They Won't Go When I Go"

That's what I call mellow. I also love that at least Stevie says please when he asks you to smile.

very beautiful, probably ranked 3rd of the stevie albums we’ve gotten on this list so far tho

Not the greatest Stevie Wonder moment, but a great one definitely!!

Kendte ikke rigtig nogen af sangene, men derudover lød det klart lige så godt som Innervisions og Songs in the Key of Life. (HOT TAKE måske bedre end SitKoL fordi der er mere dirty funk her)

They Won't Go When I Go is a banger. The rest is very nice as well!

Very good I had it play twice(accident) and was not mad

A great album in isolation, but it pales in contrast to the other four albums he put out in this era. It's like being a 5th starter with a 3.00 ERA when the other four starters are all sub 2.00.

Stevie is so smooth while telling off politicians. Harmonica, please don't go!

This project has made me a big Stevie Wonder fan! Ashamed to say I hadn’t listened to his stuff before this. This was another great record, but I’d say that Songs in the Key of Life is better, hence the 4/5

Little unlucky for this album that it's sandwiched between absolute classics in his discography, but it still manages to hold it's own.

8/10. Definitely coming back to this one. Every song is a vibe.

LINDO DEMAIS PARABENS

I mean, it's Stevie Wonder. That practically guarantees at least a 4/5. Of the four Stevie Wonder albums on this list, Fulfillingness' First Finale is definitely the one that's talked about the least. I mean, it's not a near-perfect masterpiece like Innervisions or (I presume since I haven't gotten it yet) Songs in the Key of Life, nor is it the career turning point that is Talking Book. Speaking of SITKOL, I'd normally be upset about that being my final Stevie Wonder album of the project, but seeing as I managed to get them all in order, with me getting them in the order of Talking Book, Innervisions, FFF, and then eventually, SITKOL, I can't say I'm too mad. How could I be when all of these albums are great! Back to FFF, I guess I could compare this to another forgotten third album in a legendary 70s 4-album run, Pink Floyd's Animals, an album that I haven't reviewed because it's not on the album list. I've heard it though, and it's a masterpiece. I'll talk about it on the user list. Anyways, Fulfillingness' First Finale is pretty good too. It's one of the weaker Stevie Wonder albums I've gotten so far, but it's still better than a considerable amount of albums I've listened to. Talent-wise, this is still Stevie at his peak. Everything from his lovely voice to his wonderful songwriting to his outstanding instrumental performances captivate the listener the whole way through. FFF is definitely a more mellow album than something like Innervisions. It still has a groove, don't get me wrong. This is obvious on songs like "Boogie on Reggae Woman" and "You Haven't Done Nothin'" but the album does take a bit of a slower pace at times. It's all good, but the album doesn't really have any masterpieces of songs like Innervisions or even Talking Book. I guess the closest it gets is with "You Haven't Done Nothin'" or maybe "Heaven is 10 Zillion Light Years Away," but I don't think they're as phenomenal as songs like "Superstition" or "Higher Ground." Still, none of them are bad. I feel like this album gets kind of forgotten because it's just a solid album in the middle of masterpieces. This is still a great album, don't get me wrong. However, he has better. Solid 4/5.

What a fucking iconic funky man! This was a blast, a few songs ended up in my repeat playlist. It was a wonderful and fun sunny day to bop along and this enhanced it.

Stevie Wonder had a crazy 10-year hot streak from 1970-1980. Every album he released during this time period is solid gold. This is one of them. Yep. I have this one, it's on my shelf, and it does not come off that shelf very often. Why? Because next to it there's "Talking Book", "Innervisions", "Hotter Than July", and Goddamn "Song in the Key of Life". Excellent record for sure, but it doesn't have any of his famous singles from this time period, and it just stands in the shadow of every other mind-blowing-ground-breaking record of his. This is like...Fullfillingness' Seventh Finale.

A really good album, I enjoyed Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away and Boogie On Reggae Woman the most.

This record seamlessly blends funk and soul, crafting a raw and emotional sound. I enjoyed the songwriting in this album and the variety of genre mixes throughout. Favourite Track(s): Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away, They Won't Go When I go, Bird Of Beauty Least Favourite Track(s): Creepin'

Smile Please 3.6 Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away 3.5 Too Shy to Say 3.3 Boogie On Reggae Woman 3.7 Creepin' 3.8 You Haven't Done Nothin' 4 It Ain't No Use 3.5 They Won't Go When I Go 3.4 Bird of Beauty 3.4 Please Don't Go 3.5 Score: 3.57

Lose yourself in a sea of grooves

stevie wonder does in fact have peak album art. “smile please” is so PERFECT. it’s so laid back and is so cute! the lyrics on this album are so well written and have a super cool religious undertone and lowkey make me really joyous. “too shy to say” has a really great chord progression and was really pretty. “you haven’t done nothin’” has a really good brass line and is SUPER groovy (thank you 70’s!). however, “they won’t go when i go” might be my favorite song on this album. i love minor keys!! all in all a great album. only some non-bangers (though this is a loose term). 4/5.

Beautiful

pretty good. calm music. 4

Im split on this one. Half is the funky pleasure that I am used to with Stevie while the other half leans into religion a bit much for me. If it was all funk I would be on board but half the album is just not for me. 7/10

That harmonica, those bass synths, straight up groovy

This was lovely. I’ve not listened to much Stevie Wonder but Smile Please set the tone for this album perfectly!

I’m giving this album a four because I do think it is a well-created album. I’ve only listened to a few Stevie Wonder songs before this album. It is a good album, but I am not crazy about it.

++: Smile Please, Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away, Boogie On Reggae Woman, You Haven't Done Nothin', It Ain't No Use, They Won't Go When I Go, Please Don't Go +: Creepin', Bird of Beauty +-: Too Shy to Say 8,5/10

I’d only heard of his radio songs previously, really enjoyed this album, it has such an easy listening vibe and flows so nicely. Highlights for me were, Smile Please’ and ‘You haven’t done Nothin’

Not my favourite stevie album, delighted nonetheless

Heaven is 10 Zillion

The title is somewhat nonsense. But the work is amazing.

First time through I noted the easy listening tunes; the second time through I was wowed by the creativity from one song to the next. Not my normal, by I have to tip my cap to a great artist.

This is an excellent album. I've enjoyed Stevie's big radio hits, Sir Duke, in particular. Just some of the best horn riffs ever. This is well-crafted, upbeat, funky and just enjoyable all-around. 4*, but could easily get kicked up a notch with repeated listens. I think I'll have to explore more of his catalog, too.

Schönes Album mit gut hörbarer Musik 4/5

Creepin included Minnie Riperton BGVs, this is just as EWF is coming on, J5 is leaving Motown, and Rhodes becomes a popular piano choice.

Nice sounds

Very groovy and calm, super enjoyable and one the best works by Stevie. Super recommended.

Amazing album. I love Stevie wonder but haven’t listened to any albums all the way through. Some hits here and some that I didn’t care for. The slow songs can be a bit self indulgent.

Haven't heard any of these songs before, but they are truly classic Stevie. So good!!

A very pleasant album! I frequently feel the need to say "not my taste in music" (as with this album) because when I give an album a good rating regardless of it being out of my usual genres, that just really shows how strong the music is. Solid 4/5!

this started out strong but lost momentum toward the end. still, it was never unpleasant to listen to—the first half of the album was just really engaging in comparison to the latter half. fav tracks: heaven is 10 zillion light years away; boogie on reggae woman

i enjoyed that! the middle all kind of blended together to me but there were a few songs throughout the album i really liked. i think with stevie wonder’s music i just can’t usually do a whole album of it because it’s too smooth and chill and starts to feel like background music. fav tracks: Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away, You Haven’t Done Nothin’, Please Don’t Go

Enjoyed listening to this while working.

The volume and quality of Stevie Wonder’s 70s output is actually insane

Rating: 9/10 Amazing album with stellar songwriting, melodies, and riffs. Not his best but still fantastic.

The Good: Again we are treated to a wonder! The Bad: At times, it feels that we’ve heard the wonder before… The Ugly: FFF… Oddly enough, I thought I had listened to all of Stevie’s “classic period” albums, but I guess that this one escaped me. I really liked it, and technically speaking, I should be giving this album a 5*, however, I frequently felt like I was listening to something I had heard before, but not as good… and that’s because his Opus was still to come… Let’s flip that coin… 4 1/2* becomes...

Stevie, what a stud you are.

This album is amazing. It is one of the first times I really listened to much Stevie wonder. He has a voice that I didn’t quite realize- it almost sounds a little Michael bubble? Regardless a great album and perfect for car rides on repeat or something somewhat higher energy, probably alone tho

Absolut peak was??

I have to say, I am looking forward to giving this one a full listen again later on. A great depiction of African American culture in the 70s with some heavy hitters and jams.

Favorite Song: Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away Least Favorite Song: Creepin'

I am delighted by early 70s Stevie. Like he's falling into his own groove. Never could get the lyrics: "Boogie onray woman"? "Boogie on ornery woman"? No matter. That dancing piano over the tidy bass was enough. Doo the wop.

His 17th album! This man is prolific and consistently good. I was only familiar with Boogie on Reggae Woman so this whole album was brand new to me. I enjoyed it immensely but what else I noticed and enjoyed (and y'all can think I'm crazy for this but know that it's true) was that my dog really liked it too! I've seen her react to live piano practices and wondered if she was zeroing in on that. But no lie...she was cozyed up on the couch post bath and had that look of pure contentment and I know Stevie had something to do with that. Boogie on! PS--If you don't know the story look up Ray Kurzweil and Stevie Wonder.

Not my favorite Stevie Wonder album. Sounds like songs that were left on the cutting room floor after Innervisions. Still, on a weak album by his measures, he reaches places that even the greatest artists cant.

Favoriet(en): Creepin’

I love Stevie Wonder and while this album might not reach the highs of Songs in the Key of Life or Innervisions it still have songs like "Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away" or "Boggie on Reggae Woman" that makes it an enjoyable listen.

Not a stevie album I’ve heard and it’s from his golden period and as would be expected excellent, funk/soul, all heart but with edges.

Molto bello. Splendide sonorità

You can't go wrong with Stevie Wonder, you just can't. Like most of his stuff you want to put on the good headphones and try and pick up every note. This album didn't have any radio hits that I can think of but don't overlook it. He wrote and released a handful of albums during this time frame and they all are timeless. Great album.

> The Beatles Not his best outing but still petty good

What an album! 70s Soul is a gap in my music library and this is a good addition- I wish I could add half stars because this album is almost perfect.

It’s not quite Songs in the Key of Life! But it was still a good’un. Simpsons: Yes

Very solid album, love everything on here. Didn’t know They Won’t go When I Go was Stevie originally and really liked his version, i think more than the George version (sorry!)

I prefer the faster tracks but the slower ones might grow on me. Lovely record with plenty of melodic surprises and nice grooves. Solid 4. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Another solid album from Stevie Wonder, you can’t help but enjoy the songs!

I mean i get it, but not for me.

Incredible vibe all the way through.

This should be interesting.

Very pleasant, some songs I was familiar with.

Very laid-back, pretty good for a casual listen.

Favorite Song: You Haven't Done Nothin'

17th studio album eh? What a man 🙏

pretty good with one of the greats

It's still really good, but pales slightly compared to the album that follows it, Songs in the Key of Life. Heaven is 10 Zillion Light Years Away and You Haven't Done Nothin' were the standouts in my opinion. A good 4 Stars.

This guy is so talented. Really loved this one.

Lovely 🥰

Funky Lower highs than Talking Book, but high lows You haven't done nothing yet was an instant classic, Jackson 5 a welcome surprise in the chorus

Fair enough.

super good album. my faves were “too shy to say” & “creepin’”. it almost seems ahead of its time and not like the 70s at all. very surreal and jazzy. 🩷💖

Any Stevie Wonder album from the 70s is a good Stevie Wonder album. Standouts for me are "Boogie On Reggae Woman" and "You Haven't Done Nothin'".

Full of lesser known songs that have an off beat charm.

Great vibe love the production, songs not as catchy as others but good jazz and complex pop songwriting

Some days I am wondering why I am suffering going through this list, listening to one bland album after another. And sometimes you're listening to something you should have known, but never really listened to. Stevie Wonder is a good example of this; already my third Wonder albums in this list, and they are consistently good.

It's borderline 5 but not his best. Feel good music.

awesome-chill album 4 stars

Love a bit of Stevie Wonder. Not many tracks I 'knew' but there were some beautiful songs and lovely instrumental parts with the groove that you hope for. Well worth the listen!

Quite the smooth experience! Didn't truly touch my heart in any deep way though. But still a fun listen

Overall: 8/10 My exposure to Stevie Wonder's music is pretty limited. Before listening to tis I could only name 3 of his songs, none of which are on here. Of course, this made me excited when this one popped up cause I now have an excuse to listen to more of his music. It's fantastic, filled to the brim with songs that'll make you dance, make you think and make you feel. The fact that he produced this himself astounds me, I've never heard of him described as a great producer but I feel he got everything perfect here. There's a couple songs that didn't connect with me but for the most part I loved the tracks and was excited for the next one. Now that he's on the board, I can see Stevie becoming an MVP for me. Fav Song: They Won't Go When I Go Least Fav Song: Creepin'

Superb album. Can’t wrong with Stevie Wonder.

Smile Please - 4/5 Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away - 4/5 Too Shy To Say - 3/5 Boogie On Reggae Woman - 3/5 Creepin' - 4/5 You Haven't Done Nothin' - 5/5 It Ain't No Use - 5/5 They Won't Go When I Go - 4/5 Bird Of Beauty - 3/5 Please Don't Go - 3/5 Average score - 3.8/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ while i've never been a regular listener, hating on stevie wonder is literally impossible. the song It Ain't No Use does not get enough love, it might be my fav of the whole album

Stevie is toch wel een geitje hoor

Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away // Boogie On Reggae Woman // It Ain’t No Use // They Won’t Go When I Go // 3.5/5

Very good. Chill and yet funky. Feel good. Potential buy. Funky as hell baby.

Classic Stevie Wonder. Bit of a mix of progressive soul: slide guitar in "Too Shy To Say" almost a country feel, "You Haven't Done Nothin'" protest anthem, "They Won't Go When I Go" dark hymn with slow piano reminiscent of Chopin, "Boogie On Reggae Woman" and "Creepin'" sensual love songs.

I wasn't familiar with the album before. I liked it very much. I will listen to Stevie Wonder more often. 4/5

Would listen again; Stevie is making music on a plane that the rest of us simply cannot understand; this isn't his best album, but it is quite good and thoughtful. Low 4. Faves: Smile Please, Creepin, They Won't Go When I Go

Pretty good, about a 7/10 to 7.5/10 a couple stand outs but overall a pleasant experience.

HERE WE GO! Overall that was really awesome. "Heaven is" is quite awesome - really spacial sounds to it. I'll never forget the first time I heard Boogie On Reggae Woman. I was 17 years old and thought i just discovered gold. It's a fun experience 'discovering new music' when it's actually older than you are. It's a timeless digging of gems - and that's what that felt like to me. I added it to my ipod(yes, my ipod) and showed it to my good friend and we bopped out to it for a while. Some overall really great tracks here - not everything has to be a radio hit. This was a really great record with not a ton of fanfare. Solid 4

Very nice.

Had more fun with this one than the previous Stevie Wonder album I got. Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away was nice. Boogie On Reggae Woman was an absolute blast. You Haven't Done Nothin, It Ain't No Use, and Please Don't Go were also fun. Good album all in all. Stevie has an incredible voice, and the music in many songs is really fun, especially some of the harmonica work. Best song: Boogie On Reggae Woman

Beautiful album of some of his lesser known songs (at least to me)

I haven’t really cared for the other Stevie Wonder albums on this list but I enjoyed this! I’m saving “You Haven’t Done Nothin’” for my playlist.

Kind of weird that I get my first and second Stevie Wonder albums with only one album in-between. I'd say this one is still not as good as Songs in the Key of Life, but I did enjoy it a lot more than Talking Book. There were some real solid grooves on here ("Boogie On Reggae Woman" being top tier, but I also found "You Haven't Done Nothing" to be quite strong in the funk. But there are also a lot of great slower jams on this album. I like "They Won't Go When I Go" and Birds of Beauty" a lot. All in all, a solid offering that I plan to return to (and have already listened to quite a few of the tracks several times)

Stevie has been a thrilling artist to get into!! What an absolute legend and this album is so different, it’s fantastic!

Stevie is so cool and I love the all the sounds in this and I gotta listen to more of this guy

man this album reaaaaaaaly kicks ass - and i love the album art! Not the biggest stevie head of all time but I do have a deep appreciation for his music, he is orbiting the sublime for sure ...

10/02/2025

Beautiful album of some of his lesser known songs (at least to me).

Stevie, Stevie, Stevie.

I have a hard time giving Stevie Wonder anything less than four stars. Even if I probably won’t be revisiting this album anytime soon. Boogie On Reggae Woman deserves at least that many stars on its own, though. The rest was good, but not amazing.

Oooh baby! This is peak -era Stevie Wonder. It's funky, it's jazzy, it's soulful, it's even a little weird at times. It doesn't have the heavy hitter singles of some of his other records around this time, but the songs are no less good. for my money, They Won't Go When I Go might be his most moving song. Speaking of moving, the backing band here is incredible. So tight. And that bass tone just sends me. Absolutely interstellar. It's a little down tempo at times and there are a couple tracks that drag. But this is still top tier Stevie.

Wasn't previously very hip to Stevie Wonder, to my great shame. This album is awesome. You Haven't Done Nothin' is incredible.

I don’t think I ever listened to this one. I’ve heard plenty of the albums bookending it - Innervisions and Songs In The Key of Life, and they are both masterpieces. So you could say I have high expectations here. It’s a beautiful album. Wonder has that amazing ability to create music that is sophisticated and interesting but also deeply emotional and relatable. There’s quite a range here, from almost Bossa Nova bouncy Bird of Beauty to the haunting They Won’t Go When I Go through the rhythmic jazzy adlibs of Boogie On Raggae Woman. I’m going to give this four stars because it’s a great album. If it was the only thing Wonder ever did then it would’ve been a good career, but I know he did even better.

not as much as a hit for me as his other albums but still solid

On first listen I was hoping for some of the poppy classics and was a little dissapointed but then on listens after I really got to appreciate the beauty of the music. I think he's incredible.

Not one of Stevie's I'd listened to before. Only managed a couple of listens. Seems to follow a similar formula of several funk/soul bangers and a couple of skippable ballads.

very smooth from Stevie, the album after (in my opinion) his best -Innervisions, so a very tough act to follow. This one perhaps a little more sombre and slower than Innervisions but still some seriously good funk and all round top draw arrangements. It's a very strong 4.5 for me here.

not my favorite Stevie :( but still, so groovy and well produced, gotta give it a four. not a five since I don't see myself returning to it with any regularity.

Enjoyed this. Funky and soulful.

Both funky & silky smooth. I particularly love the piano ballads like “They Won’t Go When I Go” and “Too Shy to Say”. I could see Elton singing these. I didnt really know Stevie Wonder had this side to him.

The second half is definitely stronger than the first but, overall, an album who is sweet, breezy, full of endless charm and honestly, I wouldn't have minded one or two more tracks. Bravo, Mr. Wonder. Bra-vo.

Great album - is Stevie wonder blind or is that off

Not bad to listen to kinda jazzy

A couple of harmonic choices which felt a little too jazzy for the context, but so many amazing songs on here! Highlights: Boogie On Reggae Woman and that weird noise in Bird of Beauty

Boogie on Reggae Woman and They Won't Go When I Go are all-timers. Can't believe I hadn't heard them before in the first 24 years of my life. I love Stevie. Close to a 5 but not every song delivered for me.

Young Stevie in the middle of his tear. This ones a little more subdued than say songs in the key of. One still has a clavinet bit redolent of superstition. Nice singing ad libs and weird little vocal noisemaking keeps it interesting.

Absolutely beautiful

3.75/5 More experimental, groovy boogie than other Stevie I’ve listened to

Stevie wonder’s always a joy to listen to. Some really interesting sounding sounds and his voice stands out. I’m a sucker for soul/funk bass so this hits the right notes for me. Standout track: too shy to say

I love Songs in the Key of Life, but this wasn't as enthralling for me. I do wonder if people who use to listen to Stevie Wonder all the time were just happier people. I always picture a group of people smiling and dancing next to the a record player when I listen to his albums. 3.5 / 5 rounded up to a 4 because I REALLY like Songs in the Key of Life

Great album. At times a little schmalzier than my standard fare, but Stevie keeps it a little more grounded. And the integration of gospel into this funkier stuff is good. You Haven't Done Nothin' for some reason doesn't bother me with its very Superstition-y riff like other cases of very similar sounds. Probably because he's doing something different with it instead of hopelessly trying to recapture past glory (ahem, Nirvana). Initial listen was maybe 3, Second listen pulled it up. Plausible that this is a five star album once I know it, but pretty likely I never get more familiar with it.

A very solid album. This was the perfect funky blend to get me through the Friday afternoon of a very long week.

A nice wholesome feel grooving throughout this album. I really dig this happy, funky soul sound.

I love 70s Stevie

Stevie is the goat

I love popular Stevie Wonder and I really loved this album too, just such a vibe and a bundle of joy to listen to

This album is all about how big of a homerun “you haven’t done nothin’” is. What a biting political critique and downright banger of a song that is. The rest of the album contains varied grooves as well that he never lets get stale.

Not usually my cup of tea, but surprised myself by enjoying it! No stand out tracks, but he has a lovely voice 5/10

Solid album, has food soul and funk

His 17th (!) studio album that's smack in the middle of his imperial era. It's almost unbelievable how prolific and consistent he was, but I've heard enough Wonder albums now to believe it. It's more somber than the albums that bookend it. Some of the production choices might be a little dated, I guess, but the engineering sounds fantastic. Every instrument is crisp and clear - you can hear anything if you focus on it.

I've never heard this one. What a lovely album =)

Such a vibe!

He is so good, all songs are great and the tone sets the mood for the album. I dont necessarily love when he uses his deeper voice and the slower more depressive songs over his happy happy joy joy positive love songs. Although not my favorite album of his I do think objectively its a great album from all angles.
