Bad ass guitar playing. I loved this

Actually a banger album

Incredible album. Has some fantastic songs and none of them are bad. Funny enough I knew the first song (Our Lips are Sealed) from a Hillary Duff song off a So Fresh CD. I think I might love Surf Rock?

Great album. High energy

The singles are great, of course, but the rest is highly enjoyable too.

Fucking YES. Amazing band and album that ended just as strong as it started. You can totally hear their influence on other all-woman outfits to come, as well as on the riot grrrl movement. Great stuff!

Simply a great listen. Really brings back some good memories. 5/5

Wow, still love this album.

"Beauty and the Beat" by The Go-Go's is an absolute gem of new wave and pop-punk brilliance. Released in 1981, it's a whirlwind of infectious melodies, spirited harmonies, and empowering lyrics. Tracks like "Our Lips Are Sealed" and "We Got the Beat" are timeless anthems that define the era. The album's production is crisp, letting each instrument and voice shine. It's a pioneering all-female effort that broke down barriers in the music industry. "Beauty and the Beat" is a testament to the band's talent and an enduring masterpiece that continues to inspire and uplift, making it a must-listen for fans of vibrant, catchy, and empowering music.

Bangerz!!!!!

Loved it!

Joyful new-wave pop. I found myself completely wrapped up in it and enjoyed the entire journey.

A simple classic. Standouts: We Got the Beat, Our Lips are Sealed, This Town, Automatic, Others: How Much More, Tonight, Lust to Love, Fading Fast, You Can't Walk in Your Sleep, Skidmarks on My Heart, Can't Stop the World B-side of Our Lips are Sealed: Surfing and Spying. It is a fun listen. I had this when it came out and it was played to death. The songs never get old. They never released anything that comes close to this. 5/5

Wow, great album. I really like this mix of rock and new wave, great vocals and choirs. And that was their debut! That is one of the albums that surely fits on that list and I am gratful for it.

A sensibilidade da criação apresenta uma atmosfera sombria e introspectiva em todo o álbum, o clima envolvente pelo uso inteligente de samples de jazz e soul, bem como influências de dub e punk. Trabalho fundamental para apreciar o trip hop.

Awesome album! Never played the entire thing before. Fading Fast hit the spot like no other.

Nice !

It’s 2004. I am 6 year’s old, in the back seat of my best friend’s mom’s car. She had just gotten us Arctic Circle. My best friend’s little brother had spilled Sprite everywhere. In the midst of the chaos, my best friend’s mom took a burned CD with “The Go-Go’s” written in blue sharpie and placed it in the player. “Our Lips Are Sealed” started playing, and my best friend’s mom sang along so joyously, so beautifully. Eventually, her solo was joined by my best fiend and her little brother’s voices, not as sure on the words as their mom was, but still singing so joyously, so beautifully. It’s a memory I think about even now. A memory that taught me the true meaning of life—finding joy in the mundane, the everyday. Besides that, The Go-Go’s are simply amazing. Such a good album.

A joy to listen to front to back. I love new wave rock like this. Fast, tight pop songs. Songs about relationships that take a specific angle or perspective. Top notch all around and has a great upbeat energy. The more I listen to this, the more I hear the punk in their style. But it’s blended with girl group pop too.

Incredible

Surprisingly great pop album.

Love how much the bass stands out in the recording... First time playing this all the way through and wish I'd done it sooner.

This album is just some awesome 80s new age pop. At 35 minutes, it’s a quick listen, densely packed with banger after banger. There’s not a single skip on this album for me. I was thinking 4 stars for this album all day long, but then I got to thinking why not a 5? I think it felt basic to give a pop album like this 5 stars, but I don’t care. 5 stars. Heard before: we got the beat, lips are sealed, probably others but didn’t know them well. Best of the best: how much more, lust to love, this town Least favorite: Automatic was kinda gimmicky

this is one of my favorite albums ever. So much girl energy. I had to pretend that i wasn't head over heels (har har) in love with the Go Gos for so many years. Five stars. Every song is a winner. Great playing, great singing, even the 80s production is good. Yes yes yes

Great album.

This was a really enjoyable pop album. I ended up listening to it twice and it has plenty of hits. I’m probably going to throw it on every now and then

9/10 absolutely killer pop album, what can I say

The first, iconic, life changing to my little 11 year old heart. Not the pinnacle of their achievements, but still outstanding.

Great album! Really good pop-punk-rock LA sound, six stars.

Love it!!

This one is a big hit in our house. Love the melodic basslines and sing-along choruses. Catchy stuff.

I loved this

This was like the cure but sped up, on a happier tone, and sung by girls. Amazing 5 stars i was surprised to like it this much

Great album and full of energy. Really unique sound and great vocals. "Our Lips Are Sealed" is my personal favorite despite the other hits like "We Got The Beat" on the album. Love the album cover too. 8/10.

Classic that was new to me. Couple big hits and the song automatic is where the band automatic got their name

I really like how upbeat this is

Though the song 'skidmarks on my heart' conjures juvenile giggling, there's not a bad thing I can say about this one. This album is 40+ years old and still spanks. I love the sound, the vocals and that they're an all female group with some talent. Sure, you say 'The Slits! The Slits!' and I say yeah, but there's that talent thing... While the Slits succeeded by playing with fervor and passion to limited scene audiences, the Go-Go's played with talent, structure with an appeal to a mainstream audience. These ladies inspired a ton of girls (Kathleen Hanna to name one) to be confident players and participants. The Go-Go's played their own instruments, wrote their own songs and, with *Belinda Carlisle's carefree tone, elevated post-punk from the gritty to the sunny. The Go-Go's, and this album, helped bridge a changing punk scene to include the brightness of 1980's Southern California. In a time when the emerging skate scene was a lower extension of the surf scene, the Go-Go's were an upward extension of a gritty anger associated with punk, a new scene was beginning. This album charted new territory eventually becoming the soundtrack for a new generation that included suburbia, girls, fashion and trips to the mall. --- *The original 'B Carlisle' once was a member of the Germs before the Go-Go's, which also means that Pat Smear is a super duper old.

I freaking had so much listening to this. Automatic is a fucking banger. The whole album made me want to go to ethyls.

Insane hooks, so much fun

Practically flawless. A solid collection of songs with some real standouts.

Always been a fan of the Go-Gos. Some of it is pure bubblegum pop, but there's some solid rock and near punk in there too.

I like girls who rock (..сказала дрю берримор, а я чувствую то же)

Loved it!

I loved this when it was new, and it still sounds so good!

I don't have a specific memory of every listening to this album in it entirety before, but I certainly remember when it was on the charts. It is full of great tracks by talented women...and lots of fun!

I have memories of bopping along to this on cassette while driving my mom's car in the summertime, wearing white Keds with no socks. I've definitely always thought of it as pure pop fun. But how great to listen to this with grown-up ears and hear such aggressive musicianship! This band ROCKS! The bass! The drums! These women have SWAGGER! I have a renewed love, admiration, and gratitude for The Go-Go's today.

How much do I love this album?! I bought the cassette in 1983 and it has been one of my favorites ever since. "Our Lips Are Sealed" is one of my all-time favorite songs of the 80's. Every time I listen to it I fall in love with it all over again. "We Got The Beat" is right up there with it. But no one should miss songs like "Lust to Love", "This Town", "Fading Fast", "You Can't Walk In Your Sleep (If You Can't Sleep)", "Can't Stop The World." Actually no one should miss listening to this album from beginning to end. It is so satisfying to hear "Lust to Love" after "Tonite" leading into "This Town" and it makes me very happy when I do. The album is great and I never tire of listening to this. I'm so glad to see this album on this list!

Rating: 10/10 Best songs:

AMAZING. Top notch. Every song was so fun. I was wondering how I knew the words to every single song, but then I remembered that my mom used to play this album for me all the time when I was a kid! Love it.

Contains Our Lips Are Sealed and We Got The Beat and no filler at all. Jane Wiedlin en Belinda Carlisle released excellent solo albums and the other Go-Go's albums are great too, but this album is perfect. Catchy guitar songs, lots of hooks, some kind of new wave blueprint for many 90s alternative rock albums, but what I like most about their music is that -just like the Ramones, Blondie, B-52's - they mix their guitar songs with 60s pop influences, which combined with excellent vocals really makes their music stand out.

Great!!!!!

The start of the "girl band" in rock, this album is pure pop/rock joy from start to finish.

This was a fun album to listen to. My favourite tracks were Our Lips Are Sealed and Can't Stop The World.

Great Album, nice to sit back and listen to some more unknown GoGo's songs that isn't just we got the beat.

we got the beat :D

I love the Go-Go's! This album is a perfect slice of nostalgic pop heaven.

Solid album

Really great album! Got two listens within 24 hours, a rare feat. Released in 1981, it's part of a (new) wave of change in pop music. The songwriting is good and the tempo is enjoyably up-beat. Good dish-washing music.

I can see how they are so influential.

Absolutely loved it

Led Zeppelin is beloved for a reason. I think legalization will help resurrect them a little.

Musicianship, hooks, energy. Perfection

Really enjoyed this. Early stages of pop punk at its best

I like the go gos

Fun pop-punk-y new wave album. Liked this more than I expected to!

A bit samey but they get a point bc I love a girl group

I kinda liked this. Catchy pop hits throughout. Okay, there are two duds in the middle (Automatically is particularly bad), but it’s a good effort. I’ve added most of this to my library and I would happily listen again.

These songs fuck, like all of them. I love when the bass cuts through, the tone is super punchy. Every song has this drive that’s perfectly composed with the verse to choruses style. Belinda Carlisle’s voice is perfect, especially for these songs. Feels like a mix of rock, surf, punk, pop- that shit is special.

This is #day696 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… I didn't know Belinda Carlisle was in a band. I hadn't really heard of this band until today either. What a shame. This is a great new wave/pop record, on par with Blondie and The B-52's. "Automatic" is a personal highlight among many others. I wonder if Automatic, an LA indie rock/post punk band took a name from that song. Anyway, great find. This is a 4 out of 5. Looking forward to #day697.

An overall quick, enjoyable listen, especially the bass parts! Can definitely see the punk and early 80s pop poking through. 4/5.

really enjoyed this one! was a lot of fun and i was vibing to most of the songs no detailed notes because i forgot lol enjoyment: 71/100 fav: cant stop the world least fav: automatic

Cute, fun, and catchy!

A great happy album to go with summer

Firmly in the nostalgic ear candy category

Very nice, peppy, new wave. Simple and fresh.

Really good.

Finally, some bops fr fr. Very cohesive album that is full of good vibes x

Es schon sehr New wave Pop mäßig aber ich mag New Wave Pop :)

Iconic 80’s tunes and sound. The mixing and mastering is awful. Way unbalanced but common for the time. Loved their sound. Great to see an Al girl group on this list

I thought this was really fun!

moja wiedza o tym zespole kończy i zaczyna się na "We Got The Beat", więc miło było poznać więcej ich muzy i utożsamiam się z tymi babami na okładce.

Three classic songs, and a bunch of decent poppy tracks. Have always liked this album, but don't love it.

Fun and catchy, will probably be back to this A couple songs reminded me of the new Olivia Rodrigo album which is also fun and catchy 4

Really good clean fun. Probably just edges into a 4 because of Belinda.

Bastante rico, por fin minas rockers. Nota: 3.7

Knew of the band only through ‘We got the Beat’. Really liked the rest of the album. Fresh, even if it was released today. Great work.

3.5 stars Solid pop punk inspiration new wave. Have loved “We Got the Beat” ever since first watching Fast Times at Ridgemont High. But the album tracks are great too. Not perfect but real good.

Fun album, more than I expected. Pleasantly surprised. Good for a 30 minute walk. Led me down an 80s rabbit hole

Без поняття що це, але обкладинка інтригує. Загалом сподобалося, буду слухати ще, може навіть і на плеєр попаде.

Rad album. All the songs fall somewhere between pretty good and great. Our Lips Are Sealed has always been my favorite.

Didn't end up writing reviews per song, but I listened to it and I like it quite a bit!

:) it was fun it was very bouncy

otters and seals. really liked this whole album.

Necesito más discos como este, es lo que espero de una lista de los mejores o más influyentes álbumes. Me gustó de principio a fin, mi preferida fue "Tonigth" pero no sé en qué contextos lo escucharía entero. Muy bueno igual.

Pretty solid

Absolutely amazing. I cannot believe it's as early an album as it is. I would believe this music came out much much later than it did. Absolutely amazing.

It's great all around. Great album art and name, great songs.

Pure pop!

I knew two songs from this going in. I have to say now I get the hype. This is a great album. One of the things I love about this is the sounds. The vocal arrangements are huge, but the guitars and bass sound very punk while the drums sound like the pop of the era. I think those combos are what make this album sound so huge even though it’s kind of sparse. This is really well done. Last track, can’t stop the world. I know this song. Heard covers. Never knew this was the go gos. This song is amazing and I’ve loved it for years never know who wrote it.

Bäst är Our lips are sealed, Lust to love, This town, We got the beat

is this the ultimate summer album??? i think we may have it folks!

L'impression d'être dans une série des années 80 avec mon maillot 1 pièce et ma coccinelle sur les routes de vacances. c'est groovy on s'amuse c'est Go-go j'aime !!

I am sure I must have heard Our Lips Are Sealed before, though I don't really recollect it properly. I also have a soft spot for some of Belinda Carlisle's crappy pop songs (Always Breaking My Heart may be a guilty pleasure) but I can wholeheartedly say I loved this burst of jangly pop. Is it genre-defining, revolutionary or head-turning? No, no and no. But a thoroughly enjoyable slice of pop.

I quite liked this. Solid pop bangers. Our lips are sealed is great. How much more sounded like “i want the one incant have” to my ears.

Gran descubrimiento, un álbum bastante divertido y con un sonido increíble, sobre todo un gran trabajo de bajo y guitarra, con letras hablando sobre temáticas femeninas y en algunos momentos poniéndose serias, me gustó.

Pre Listen: The album cover intimidates me. I feel like I shouldn't be here. Never heard of this group, no expectations, etc. Notable Tracks: Our Lips Are Sealed - Ohhhh shit I do know this group. This is a classic. Excited to hear what's in store from here. Lust to Love - My favorite track, I like the lyrics a lot. Catchy too. We Got The Beat - Another classic. Got stuck in my head for a while even after I finished the album. Automatic - Maybe the weakest song on the album? It's very different from the rest, but still I enjoyed it. Post Listen: I enjoyed this album more than I could've anticipated. It's classic bubble-gum Pop, mixed with a bit of what I think is Surf-Rock. I really love the lead singer, her voice is a great blend of joyful peppiness and softer harmonies with the other vocalists. The guitar is incredibly clean, and the bass compliments every song very nicely. The drums too are very solid, keeping the beat. I'll be adding a few songs to my playlist, really blew my expectations away. I have no criticisms, really just a phenomenally well put-together album. They absolutely got the beat. 5/5 EDIT - Came back after re-listening to the album. I think my initial score could be described as a "Sugar High" with just how bubble-gum their sound is. On subsequent listens, it wasn't quite as sweet as I remembered it. I still love it, I just don't think it's perfect-score worthy. Changed to 4/5.

En knippe feel good poppete punk. Ja takk!

Positivt overraska!

Deilig

I recognized the hits, but before now would have missed a trivia question asking which group Belinda Carlisle was in before starting her solo career. Shame on me! Another trivia tidbit: They were "the first—and only—all-female band to top the Billboard album chart while writing their own songs and playing their own instruments." This is fantastic, summery, fun, just a blast of a listen.

really catchy and would be happy to listen to this pretty much any time. that said, it doesn't really evoke any moods besides aimlessly upbeat

Couple of earworms, was more enjoyable than what the cover suggested.

An all-female band! I've probably said this before but this kind of new-wave/punk is so lively and playful. The tracks sound similar to each other, but it isn't a bad thing here. They sound like the B-52's but more poppy and less kitschy (3.5-4).

This album is a lot of fun. You have the hits you’ll recognize like “Our Lips Are Sealed” and “We Got the Beat”, but a lot of the other tracks are very strong. I particularly liked “This Town”. The background beat is a bit repetitive, but in general I enjoyed my time with this album. 4/5

Wow. This kicks ass. Might be the coolest female only band ever. It's a very fun Rock Pop mix, and every song is pretty fun and energetic. It's also only 35 minutes long, which if anything leaves me wanting more. Of course, the big hit here is "We Got The Beat", and it's for sure my second favorite song on the album. It was a close fight between that and "This Town", but as always, if I end up singing a song when it's not even on, that one is going to be my pick for favorite virtually every time. In this instance, since this was my weekend album (Female Friday's), I've had the lyrics to "This Town" in my head the entire weekend, so it's for sure my favorite. There's not a TON of variety on this album, you kind of get the point after the first couple of songs, but they're all very fun, and it's not much of an issue when the album is so short to begin with. The album art is also pretty great. Not something you'd expect to see on a Rock album cover, but they make it work. Seriously though, especially for being an entirely female led band, this was really good. I emphasize that for the sole reason of saying, admittedly, I can't think of a second 4+ member band of just females. It's pretty cool that it exists at all, and even cooler that it sounds this good. I think I would seriously return to this at any time virtually. It's unbelievably catchy, and the chemistry between the band members comes together very nicely to produce an excellent, short, lightning in a bottle album that I really enjoyed spending the weekend listening to. I also always love when my 2 favorite songs on an album are right next to each other. The 1-2 combo of "This Town" and "We Got The Beat" is just so good. Not much more to say about this album other than the fact that I really enjoyed it, and I kind of wish they had more albums I could check out on here. I feel like I've been very generous giving out 4's and 5's lately. Either that or these albums have just been banger after banger. I'm honestly struggling to think of why this would ever be a 3 for me, and I'm also struggling to think of why it wouldn't be a 5. I don't know, it's pretty god damn good. This one is going on the list of albums I might change to a 5 later if I ever comb through the list in the future. I really enjoyed this one.

Really solid pop punk. The groove is tight and Carlisle does a great job balancing her voice between snottiness and prettiness

Liked this a lot! It's catchy and punchy. Will definitely listen again

Like The Pretenders before it, this is one that doesn't really re-invent the wheel, it's just everything I could want out of a solid power pop/new wave record.

Had never heard before, but knew of- would return to listen to.

Still fresh and energetic. Great stuff.

Incredible fun album, great cover art. I was bopping the whole way through

I was surprised by how good this entire album is. I’ve only heard We Got the Beat before but every song is basically just as good

Glorious girlie pop-rock perfection.

New wave, pop rock, power pop, surf rock.

Pleasant surprise 👍

An album I should have listened to before but somehow never did. Punk tinged pop, bubblegum rock, whatever it is, it has held up to the passage of time.

This is a great album. I wouldn't mind if it was longer. This band is really interesting and I want to listen to more of them.

Pretty catchy stuff. This album has their only hit, but most of their music is good pop.

I usually hate 80s music but I liked this album a lot

It was surprisingly good

Beat it

Low 4 but still very good and enjoyable 3.5/5.

Pure 80’s fun. Quick, light blast from the past and so of their era there is no mistaking their sound and place.

So peppy. So boppy. So good.

Finde jetzt keinen spezifischen song super gut, aber so als ganzes album echt solide

Belinda slapped

80’s punk pop fun. This is not my favorite era for music, but this whole album is a vibe and I love that the band is all women.

4.5 Grandes rolas

vivan las girlsss

Some of my favourite bands are female lead like Blondie, Amyl and the Sniffers and The Beaches. You can add The Go-Go’s to that list. Great riffs, catchy lyrics and they’re a tight sounding band. 35 minutes flew by

A fun, upbeat album that has me smiling

Fun album, but seems dated.

Good fun

Go-Gozonas

I didn’t even know it, but I needed to listen to an ’80s girl rock band. This album is super cohesive, fun, musically strong, and on top of that it’s the essence of ’80s rock. Really cool! So much fun! 8/10

Super fun power pop

M'a paru légèrement kitsch et assez répétitif dans l'ensemble, mais certaines musiques ont un côté mélancolique / grunge que j'ai beaucoup apprécié ! Comme We Got The Beat ou This Town. Groupe inconnu au bataillon, et validé.

fun rock harmony...all girls..go! go!

Short album but very very energetic and fun! Cant think of a song I didnt like. Half of these could be a Scooby Doo song and thats a compliment 4/5

I’m not exactly sure, but I feel like my parents had this cassette tape, because as I listened I felt extremely nostalgic for singing and dancing to these songs in the backyard. I used to love The Go-Gos and this was a fun listen.

pop rock music from a group of young women trying to find their place in the world. this is a good pick for an album for the summertime. ideally when you're at the pool and splashing your friends, this is playing from a boombox. many tracks are easy to sing along to. i can't see this album repeating too often in my playlists of choice, but i admire musicians who have a real sense of identity and the kind of stuff they want to show off to the masses. this is an album meant for listening when you're having a ball and you don't care about anything else.

Not bad at all. Firmly above-average. The singles are above-average for the era. The album tracks are above-average for the era.

Dick Dale if he was 4 new wave women in the early 80s. Also got a couple of Elvis reminders.

Blondie vibes. Catchy singles and fun 80s pop/punk record.

some of these songs i didn't really care for and was rather bored by ("you can't walk in your sleep," "this town," "we got the beat") but if i liked a song i REALLY liked it. "lust to love," "automatic," and "fading fast" ruuule. low 4

ooohyez girls on top gwn prima album ze zijn echt lyrical genius “you can’t walk in your sleep if you can’t sleep, you can’t talk in your sleep if you can’t sleep”

Good! Honestly good new wave stuff!

круто

The songs all sound a lot alike, but they mostly sound good! I can see people coming at me for giving the Go-Gos 4 stars when I gave Leonard Cohen only two, but a lot of it just enjoyment. Sort of like how I would rather watch Singin’ in the Rain or Back to the Future than Citizen Kane. One may be objectively more artistic, but for me it comes down to pleasure in listening.

it was like listening to stuff my mom would think is cool while she was a teen

Really fun !!

(86/100)

liked this more than i expected. particularly skidmarks on my heart. not sure i see myself going back to it though. would give like a 3.5 if there were halves on here.

OKAY FINE ILL ELABORATE ON MY BLONDIE SHITPOST WITH THE GO-GO’s PROXY!!!! I think it is genuinely awesome that Blondie came from roots at CBGB and transformed themselves into pop icons. The great songs on that album are some of the greatest of that era, and ever, but the songs that miss just feel like songs of their era have nothing going for them. The Go-Go’s admitedly debuted after Blondie and owe a lot of their success to them, but their Cali-forn-I-A background makes SO much more sense to me in the context of a punk rock pivot. They’re one of the first bands to reinterpret surf music after the punk boom. The Go-go’s surfrock-newwave synthesis, call it "Surfwave," compliment each other MUCH better than Blondie’s straight pop pivot for many reasons because they have those girl group harmonies, not just the Men in Blacking Band. We Got the Beat, Our Lips Are Sealed, Fading Fast, but the other tracks have a Automatic is genuinely haunting. It reminds me of like, Drugs by Talking Heads. I don’t know. Belinda Carslile u are so awesome.

great album. our lips are sealed is an all-timer pop song. really good beyond the singles too! love the harmonies and the surf rock influence

Hot girl walk music!

Cracking album - every track is catchy and fun. Favourite track: Tonite

I love this album, it is so much more than the 2 big singles. Vocals are great, drums and bass keep everything moving so well, and it's undeniably catchy and fun.

Big Go-Go’s fan here

so much fun, very consistent catchy harmonies

I'd somehow never heard of this, and I'm surprised how much I liked it. Together with Blondie, it's definitely the best of the New Wave / post-punk stuff I've heard on this list. 'Skid marks on my heart' made me smirk though.

Overall: 8/10 These songs honestly kick so much ass. I love the basslines especially, and the vocals are cute. Gon a be listening to this one even more. Fav Song: Our Lips Are Sealed

8/10 I don't have a lot to say but I like it, I could listen to Belinda Carlisle sing all day.

Simple but fun. 7/10

Álbum muy ochentoso, de mis favoritos. Le pongo un 8 🫶🏼

This was a pretty good listen; nothing mind blowing or super crazy. But it's understandable why it would be on this list. Personally I wouldn't have included it, but I hear the impact it had on the music scene for the 80s on up. Again a pretty good listen, but you're not missing anything otherwise.

It has been about two weeks since I had something I was familiar with or heard before so this was a nice little wave of nostalgia. I’ve always liked the Go-Go’s and Belinda Carlisle. Great band and a bunch of catchy songs that go quick, so even if it isn’t your thing it isn’t a huge time investment. Love those 80s hits though.

Primera escucha : M’agrada bastant ritme entre 90 i 2000s tot i que hi ha tracks q crec q s’asmevlen bastant tot i q al veure q son dels anys 80 crec q esta guay q es vegi un adelanto

Hell yeah

1. Our Lips Are Sealed - this sounds like a product of its time. A groovy 70s/80s pop. 2. How Much More - I don't want to say it sounds the same as the last song, but there is a motif of the upbeat light guitar. 3. Tonite - giving girl anthem for a party nite out. Or a night drive. It's starting to turn catchy. 4. Lust to Love - the beginning sounds like a different song I can't remember what song :( too stuck on thinking about it. 5. This Town - this is an album by girls for girls. I cannot vibe with it on that level, but it's fun. Glamorous :o) 6. We Got The Beat - Everyone knows this song. This deep in, the motif follows the Beach Boys surf style. Not awful 7. Fading Fast - a sadder song. I think the "go-go" guitar provides a lightness to it that makes it a sad but dance-y song. 8. Automatic - a big slow down. I like big switch. 9. YCWIYS(IYCS) - Back up again. 10. Skidmarks On My Heart - all I can think about is shit stain :/ sometimes there's a pop sound, sometimes there's more of a rock sound. I like the 70s/80s blend. 11. Can't Stop The World -

High energy classic rock and roll with punk influence. Good album.

Really fun album so far. Am enjoying alot

No idea this existed and was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it.

Waiiiiit… you mean Alvvays are a cover band?

Some songs seemed to be familiar...from movies or sth

A fun easy listen! Likes: Our Lips Are Sealed; Tonight This Town

Listened in the car. Really fun album. A bit samey by the end, especially in the drums, but still enjoyed it a lot.

Have I listened to this album before? No How familiar am I with this album? I know a few songs How do I feel about this artist? The Go-Go's are fun Favorite song(s)? We Got the Beat Overall Thoughts: Fun listen, songs sounded similar but they were all upbeat.

Surprisingly great. This was such a good example of pop rock. Great hooks, incredible bass lines, didn’t outstay its welcome.

oh i am MOVINGGGGGGG

The deep tracks were more serious than the high tempo pop songs I’d heard before, all good though

Really enjoyed How much more You cant walk in your sleep Is so fire thats a 4/5 song overall album was really fun, as an all girl band kinda gave me vibes of bikni kill and some other all girl genres but obvs with that 80s vibe

The hits are amazing and there a couple of other good songs, but I was surprised how much I disliked Belinda Carlisle over a full album--her range is not huge. However, I am going with a 4 because IRS made a deal to produce The Go-Go's as long as they could also take on R.E.M. and the album is groundbreaking. If you haven't seen their live show from Central Park, I highly recommend it. Carlisle came a LONG way from these recordings!

This album is pretty funny, and, definitely, so enjoyable. This is not a fantastic record, for sure, and some songs are not that great, but I've loved listening to every second of it. It's a very 80's album, with, at some points, a bit of a punk feeling – even though it's very popish. And it matches the vibes of the album so well. Surely, a record worth listening to.

You know, I could complain the over-abundance of new-wave on this album list, but I'm not going to do that tonight because this album's pretty good. Beauty and the Beat is a fun time. This is not another bore-fest of an album from a bunch of British men. For one, the Go-Go's are American, but that's not the important part. The important part is that they're all women! I haven't gotten nearly enough albums from all-female groups for this project, so seeing one pop up is a very welcome change of pace. As far as the contents of the music go, we don't have a particularly complex album on our hands, but we do have an album that is consistently enjoyable. This album is definitely on the poppier side of new-wave, but I'm actually okay with that. I think these gals had the style figured out and it works well for them. I mean, you've got some certified bops on this thing. "Our Lips Are Sealed" and "We Got The Beat" in particular are just great. The writing behind the album is fairly basic, but in a way that I can't bring myself to dislike at all. It serves its purpose as well as it needs to. The singing and instrumentation are all fun. This is just a fun album, okay? Not every album needs to be super deep and emotional. Sometimes you just want to have fun, and this album gives you that effortlessly. Light 4/5.

What a great album! I never got to hear this until decades later and what a surprise it was! I got into music when Belinda Carlisle had just set out on her own with a couple of great albums of her own and never got to go back to where she came from. I also thought that their album from 1984, Talk Show, was really great. I’m sure Vacation is also a good album but I haven’t gotten around to hearing that one yet. I think that will be coming up on my listening list soon as I’m digging this re-listen of their debut album.

80s pop rock. New wave debut. Very poppy and good natured.Great female 80s guitar band. Punk flavours.

Already heard some songs of course, but I liked the rest too Will I listen to again: 75%

Not the best ride in the amusement park, but it's worth a ride with the price of admission.

Warum denke ich das ist ne Punkband? Joan Jett in clean? 4/5

Honest to goodness female-fronted pop-punk here. It's great fun, and the opener is particularly energising. I think, while I'm scoring it highly, it's worth noting that - worryingly for a 35 minute long record - I was definitely starting to lose patience with it a little by the end.

Wow, this is not the beach day pop that comes to mind when I think of the Go-Go's. The punk influence really holds the album together. The girl pop vocals layered and harmonized on top create a wonderful contrast in their sound. Our Lips Are Sealed We Got The Beat

When I was a snotty teen and couldn’t get past my love of Joan Jett and AC/DC I didn’t embrace the joy of the Go -Gos. I now enjoy their music. “You Can’t Wslk in Your Sleep” and “Skid marks on my Heart”are a lot of fun and should have had some DJ love.

Wait who has the beat?

Classic feel-good 80s music. Listened to this while I showered and washed the dishes this morning. I've always loved 'Our Lips Are Sealed' and 'We Got the Beat' New favorite is 'Skidmarks on My Heart'

Yeah, not bad. They don't make girls bands like this anymore, in fact they don't make new wave bands like this anymore. Some solid tracks, some not as good. Better than a lot of the slosh on the main list.

I was surprised I had never heard of this band. Has a sunshine, upbeat aesthetic to each of their new wave/pop rock tracks. Interesting piece of trivia that The Go-Go's are are an all female rock band.

girls just wanna have fun

yuppie grrrls

Another band I had heard of but never listened to. Very good album - enjoyed it a lot.

8/10 Best songs: Our Lips Are Sealed, Tonite, We Got the Beat This album surprised me - it's really good start to end, with interesting songs and great beats. It quickly became obvious to me that the Go-Go's are incredibly influential among punk/rock girl groups later on (seriously, Veruca Salt, Slater-Kinney, and Le Tigre - some of my faves - owe a world of gratitude to them), and for good reason. Just good music.

Considering I’ve hated basically every other new wave album on this list so far, this is refreshing. High energy, fun.

They got my beat…they got my beat…yeeeah the got it!!!

Не слышал их до этого. На удивление очень задорный отличный девчачий пост-панк. Много сильных песен. При том что это их первый альбом. Поизучав выяснил, что сооснователь - Белинда Карлайл

This albums is like my dad's tackle box: filled to brim with hooks.

New wave with some post-punk feel. Bit like a less edgy Blondie or Kirsty MacColl. Also feel some pop-punk in there too. How Much More has a fun riff. Lust to Love has unexpectedly moody verses, not out of place in metal until the big chorus hits. Can definitely hear a link from this to other 80s alt rock. Listen to the riff from Automatic and you can almost hear Pixies or grunge. Wow, Can't Stop The World sounds like Green Day or something. Best track - How Much More, Lust to Love, Automatic, Can't Stop The World 4 stars

This is so good lol

Hadn't heard of the Go-Gos before but really liked them

Wikipedia says this album is largely at fault for the future development of "pop" "punk," but I love it anyhow. The bridge in "Our Lips are Sealed" with the great bassline and Jane Wiedlin singing "hush my darling" is absolutely transcendent. Also, 1982 Belinda Carlisle totally would have been into me if she got to know me.

zonder veel verwachtingen aan begonnen... veel zeer goed mee... mooi plaatje.. of het echt in de lijst thuishoort weet ik niet, maar ik werd er alvast blij van...

Heard Before? Yup! Notes: - all the reviewers on this site are correct: there are WAY too many new wave albums on this list. sadly this sours the enjoyment of gold like this. - perfect production and balanced arrangements. almost too perfect because it gives the songs a sameness they don't necessarily deserve. - vocals (both solo and group) are an obvious highlight despite their obvious limitations. - i may have unconsciously played air bass several times while listening. Verdict: All fun, all the time. It's got beauty, it's got the beat. I feel like getting a stupid haircut, a ridiculous vintage outfit, and going out dancing. Listen Again? I don't really need to, but it might come up again next time the new wave urge hits.

Muy lindo disco, simpáticas las chicas! innovadoras!

Сойдет, для изучения истории

Power pop is among my favorite genres of music and this is a damn good version of it. It bolts out of the gate with a perfect first half but does flag just a bit toward the end.

Another band I've always known and respected but, inexplicably, I hadn't listened to anything beyond few hits. So it's good to listen to a whole album. Great drumming, great harmonies/BVs. I liked the whole vibe. The songs are light and fast, but there's substance there in the lyrics, and complexity in the arrangements and production if you listen carefully to all the background twiddles. I especially love Our Lips Are Sealed; I only found out last year that it was co-written by the late great Terry Hall, even though I'd always loved the joint version with Fun Boy Three as well. I enjoyed this album very much; it made me quite wistful for lost youth and simpler times.

Highlights: Our Lips Are Sealed, We Got The Beat, Lust To Love, This Town and Fading Fast. 4.4

Beautifully coincidental, I'm listening to this on International Women's Day. This is a triumph of new wave pop punk brilliance cover to cover

A properly fun Punk/Pop album. More punk that mainstream Bananarama but maybe a little bit less than Blondie. The Go-Gos have an up beat guitar driven sound, with Belinda Carlisle's melodic vocals giving a fun and enjoyable feeling to the whole album. All of the songs are enjoyable but the stand out hits are "Our lips are sealed" and "We got the beat". Both of which I enjoy very much and would happily listen to as part of my day to day playlist. I have to admit that I have always enjoyed an all female band. I just think that they are cool and the Go-Gos have cool in spades. (3.750)

Beautiful reminder of proto alt pop femmes swagger. AM radio good times!

So fun! Really liked this album

jimmy neutron flashbang

Schijnbaar had ik deze plaat al een keer eerder geluisterd maar dat is niet blijven hangen. Superleuke tijdloze poprock. 45 jaar oud maar klinkt alsof het van vorig jaar kan zijn

I assumed this would be cheesy but it was actually wonderful

This was pretty cool and pretty rockin. I love Belinda Carlisle and didn't expect the Go-Go's album to be as musical or as punk as it was!

Excelente, gostoso de ouvir e dançante.

Very fun and solid record front to back. I like the guitar work even working some surf rock in there, nice. Really adds to the fun vibes. Also the songs I found were catchy, I like the vocals. Idk what else to say I’m kinda glad I was recommended this, something different for me and I look forward to whatever else this website gives me. Oh and we got the beat is nostalgic for me as it was on rock band 2 which is a game I grew up with.

I really liked this album. The cover is super awesome. As soon as I saw it was new wave I knew that I would probably like it. I liked every song in it. The songs were very fun and unique. I think my favorite song was "You can't walk in your sleep (if you can't sleep)"

Fun record. Some quality tunes on here for sure.

Lots of good songs. The one that aren't hits have a darker town, and the sound reminds me of a proto1920's cabaret transported to the 80's

So much more than "We Got The Beat" such a classic pop album! Reminds me of Strawberry Switchblade to a degree. Favorite Song: How Much More

This album really surprised me. Only knowing "We Got the Beat" beforehand, I was pleasantly surprised to hear how interesting a lot of songwriting was melodically and harmonically. Also really enjoyed the slight punk influence throughout the very poppy album. Only letdown was the beginning and ending segments of the album felt more bland than the rest. Favorite Songs: "Tonite", "Lust to Love", "Fading Fast", "Automatic" Least Favorite Song: "Skidmarks on My Heart" Mid 4.

Um new wave muito decente, ainda que não particularmente aventureiro na sonoridade.

The hits are amazing, of course. The rest is good, but not amazing. Still, though. Hall of famers right here.

Likes: Girls who Rock; instrumentation is solid across the board, and is really interesting without getting in the way of the song; high energy on most tracks Dislikes: Some songs are lower energy in a way that doesn’t match the rest of the song’s vibe; some of the tracks get a little boring and same-y; singles don’t match the other songs Overall, a solid record that I enjoyed listening to. I preferred the tracks where they step away from pop and get a little more weird with it, like Automatic.

when I was a kid there was a series of albums called "Punk Goes Pop". I prefer this! the self-titled debut album by the Go-Go's presents an intermingling of musical styles that would prove to be very popular across the decade in which it was released. the band's combination of punk rock spirit with catchy, absurdly witty pop songwriting made them one of a few late 70s/early 80s acts that ushered in a new wave (get it?) of bands riding that exact line. the singles, "Our Lips Are Sealed" and "We Got the Beat", are enduring classics from the early era of what we now call power pop; much like the deep cuts, they're held up by Belinda Carlisle's bouncy, carefree vocal performances, underneath which the interlocking riffs of Charlotte Caffey and Jane Wiedlin, Kathy Valentine's driving bass work and Gina Schock's journeys around the drum kit create one hell of a dance party. decent 8/10.

Fun pop rock from the 80s a good listen

Pure pop fun

Really consistent! Upbeat and fun!

They obtained the beat

Favorite: Lust to Love and Automatic

Takes me right back to A Cinderella Story

This band is a cool little blip in music history. I knew of the hits but never took in an album to its entirety. "Beauty And The Beat" is a fun, care-free album showcasing true talent of 4 women who proved all you need for a band is a willingness to give it a try. (Their harmonious talents certainly help too)

Really good. Love the post punk sound, cool history for the band, great production.

🥇how much more 🥈we got the beat 🥉can’t stop the world HM: our lips are sealed, fading fast, skidmarks on my heart

go go go go go go go have had that justin beiber song stuck in my head since- only reason for 4 stars

Upbeat 80s pop with just about enough traces of its punk origins. I can hear pop influences tracing back to the 50s and 60s. Must have been pretty influential, given the way pop punk went in the US over the next couple decades. 3.8/5

2/3/26 - Listened on drive to work. Really enjoyed it. Almost a 5 star album to me though probably would need more listens to officially make that call. Top Song - Lust to Love

Great album that holds up remarkably well. This is a solid album all the way through with no skips. Favorite songs: Our Lips Are Sealed, We Got the Beat, Automatic

Perfectly cromulent 80s new wavey pop. Nothing to complain about, not much that stands out either. Good enough listen. Not likely to stick with me.

*Great New-wave/early punk record *Blondie Parallel lines clearly set up a record like this to happen, but its hits are great.

Great debut album! It's kind of weird to think that the Go-Go's were such a novelty at the time, an all-woman group who played their own instruments and who wrote their own songs. This album was fun, had good vibes and had great energy. This is a solid and easy 4-star rating.

Entuudestaan tuttu kasari rock / new wave bändi ja kyllähän tämä levy meni ihan mukavasti alusta loppuun. Muutama biisi pääsee kiertoon. 4/5.

I was familiar with the two hit singles but had never listened to the whole album. It was energetic and catchy with lovely harmonies on the choruses. The guitar work was excellent. 4 stars. Fave track - our lips are sealed. Such a joyful song.

I've heard all the Go-Go's biggest hits, but I can't say that I've ever listened to a full album, or any of their lesser-known tracks. This album is so fun and I had a great time listening! I love listening to women's music, and the Go-Go's were pioneers. Men dominate the rock scene, and an all-women rock band was rare, especially in the 70s when they were founded. Overall, I had a great time listening to their music. It was a lot of fun, and I appreciate the strides made in advancing women in the arts. 4/5 stars.

Top 3: Tonite, This Town, Fading Fast

I liked it. Certainly not enough all female bands, let alone on this list and certainly not at the time.

This album is just pure fun from start to finish. The Go-Go's came out swinging with their debut. It is energetic, catchy, and just a good time. The hits are obvious standouts. "Our Lips Are Sealed" and "We Got the Beat" are feel good anthems. Both tracks have a raw energy that makes them feel spontaneous and genuine. It is upbeat and feel-good, has aged remarkably well and honestly still sounds fresh.

C'était génial j'ai passé un super moment je ne connaissais pas et on ne surfe pas sur un buzz construit c'est cool

This is the first time I've ever heard this entire album as an entire album, despite how often I've heard all of these songs over the past 40-some years! I like this more now than I did when it first came out - it's pop music, but with a slight punk edge. I still think Fun Boy Three's "Our Lips Are Sealed" is better than the one here, but this record is a lot of fun anyway. Favorite: "This Town" 4/5

Very fun and groovy. A toe tapper. Older and a lot of good groovy beats. A little rocky. Based off the first listen 6/10

yeah that was fire, very easy to listen to, wld def wanna throw this on and dance arnd and have fun

I was expecting an album of 80s pop music a la The Bangles and what I got was an album of 80s new wave punk rock a la Blondie. And it was good. Really good.

eu amei. elas são the blueprint.

essa banda marca várias caixinhas dos meus interesses e mesmo assim nunca tinha ouvido falar delas. uma das melhores partes desse livro. curti!

Really good album. Nice energy. New Wave rock album. Lead singer has a great presentation and the music is tight and energetic. Notable tracks include Our Lips Are Sealed, How Much More, Lust to Love, We Got The Beat, You Can’t Walk in Your Sleep, Can’t Stop The World.

This was a must listen to in the 80's and 90's and still a feel good album.

Awesome awesome awesome. Just killer power pop. Fun, catchy, and upbeat.

The album captured the irreverent and narcissistic zeitgeist of the early 1980s. Unapologetic in its embrace of the evolving pop-centric hegemony, yet caustic in its flippant irony. Head bopping fun.

Wiki says: 'The title is a play on the European fairy tale "Beauty and the Beast".' No kidding. Well, I guess maybe pre-Disney movie it wasn't as obvious. I like the little I.R.S. logo. I never really thought too much about the Go-Gos, other than when I heard 'Vacation' in a Rugrats episode and observed that it was a bop. But I did generally like this. It's Hi-NRG after all. (according to me, not according to wiki genres, which continue to vex me) Highlights: 'Our Lips Are Sealed', 'How Much More'

This album's hits have probably reached overplayed status for a lot of people but I gotta say, hearing them in the context of a record on nice headphones really brings out their character. Solid listen for the rest of it, too.

This is actually a brilliant album. Like Blondie crossed with The Cars. It’s a damn shame pop music doesn’t sound like this these days

Pretty solid pop rock album with some sick ass bass tone. Love it.

Good pop, great harmonies
