Álbum muito divertido. Bastante Groove. CVJ Vivian.
There's a mix of slow soul songs with upbeat rock and funk. I can't help but feel a bit disappointed when I find out that the best tracks on an album are cover songs, but I do love the funky takes on Listen to the Music and Summer Breeze. Some of the songs are bit slow for my liking but it was overall pretty enjoyable.
Fantastic blend of funk and soul. Great album!
норм
Kings of making an unnecessary 14 minute jam on a 3 minute song but keeping it fun. Who’s that lady is incredible, shout out Kendrick. The listen to the music cover rips too. Just really solid guitar driven funky soul music. No complaints.
I like this one. 4 stars
Love it. Own it.
Not usually my kind of music, but I'm really grooving along with it. Starts out with That Lady, love the voice and it has some great guitar work. Don't Let Me Be Lonley Tonight is smooth and chill. The album loses steam for a few songs after that, but then picks back up with a great beat in What It Comes Down To. Sunshine is a really nice vibe. Summer Breeze is great, he sings it beautifully and we get more of that intense guitar. The Highways Of My Life ends on a nice relaxing note, such a smooth flow. I was about to rate the album a 3 as a whole, but the good songs are really good, pushing this up to a 4. Best song: Summer Breeze
#173/1001. Refreshing to hear such good soul/funk after too much 90s brit pop. An album worth coming back to.
This album is super groovy. Not something I really listen to, but I really like how the rocky guitars mix with that funky sound. The vocal arrangements are interesting too, they add so much texture and energy. That Lady is definitely the standout track (I went back to the solo a couple of times). Their covers on Summer Breeze and Listen to the Music are both solid, they really work well with the sound they created for this album. Summer Breeze especially just feels smooth and familiar in the best way. Overall, 3 + 3 is a great blend of funk, rock, and soul that's still great today.
Kinda groovy. Easy to listen to. All the songs sounded vaguely familiar but not sure if I actually knew any of them. A good listen
Fun listen. This has been referenced and sampled so much since it came out it almost feels trite, but I’m sure was impactful at the time. The cover cuts were a pleasant surprise.
great album
Easy to listen to--lots of familiar songs (maybe too familiar?).
soul-tastic
Smooth, funky, varied. Enjoyed this.
Fun, but basically just a cover album
This was so good I really want to go back and listen to it again. I shall do it as soon as possible.
Love the 70's vibes
Loved it, got my atention the moment i recognized the Kendrick sample
This is some classic soul. Good stuff.
My first listen to The Isley Brothers' 1973 album, "3+3". The production is remarkably crisp for a 52-year-old record, with well layered harmonies and vocals throughout. The album cover perfectly captures the '70s vibe with those unforgettable outfits! The band is in peak form, especially on the more funky tracks. Ernie Isley's guitar work is fabulous, but particularly on the classic "That Lady, Pts. 1 & 2" and the fantastic covers, "Summer Breeze" and the funky take on "Listen to the Music." While the slower R&B/Soul cuts, like "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight," are expertly performed, they weren't entirely to my taste. Overall, it's a thoroughly enjoyable album and a very good listen. 4/5 Stars. Side one 1 "That Lady" (5/5) 2 "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight" (3/5) 3 "If You Were There" (3/5) 4 "You Walk Your Way" (3/5) 5 "Listen to the Music" (4/5) Side two 6 "What It Comes Down To" (4/5) 7 "Sunshine (Go Away Today)" (4/5) 8 "Summer Breeze" (5/5) 9 "The Highways of My Life" (4/5) Total - 35 Average - 3.89 144/1001 74/144 albums reviewed were new to me.

The cover of "Listen to the Music" was amazing. The rest of the album is some of the best OG funk and psychedelic jazz I've heard!
*That Lady, Pts. 1 & 2: the vocals are smooooooth. I'm pretty sure I've heard this song before? guitar tone in the solo goes sicko, the mix in general is really really nice on the ears. *Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight: this song is incredible. feels like I'm going to be saying this a lot but the vocals are seriously stupid good, dude ate chewed and digested this entire track. If You Were There: this one's decent. nothing wrong with it, the melody just doesn't hook me the same as the other tracks so far. lyrics are cute *You Walk Your Way: love the groove on this. dope song. super solid songwriting and great performances from everyone *Listen to the Music: LOVE the groove on this, stankface city. wait, is this a cover??? or did another band do a famous cover of this? this shit rules. bassline in the outro is crazy cuckoo *What It Comes Down To: such a wholesome lil love song. they really know how to lock into a groove and just let it rip *Sunshine (Go Away Today): oh this is a funky one. digging this one a lot just because it has a different vibe to a lot of the other stuff on the record, a little more experimental with the soundscape. vocal performance is out of control once again *Summer Breeze, Pts. 1 & 2: woooooooow, just absolutely gorgeous. levitating off the couch a bit. I'm not usually a guitar solo person but this one is essential to the song *The Highways of My Life: beautiful closer. the key change in the the refrain is a nice moment this album is good as hell. the quality and the craftsmanship and the talent is undeniable. I think a lot of classic albums require you to put them in context to appreciate them for what they are (i.e. "it was groundbreaking when it came out"), but this is music that's just GOOD and so much fun to listen to. it was great when they dropped it, it's great fifty years later, and it'll still be great in another fifty years when we're fighting in the water wars __ SCORE: 8/10 ADDED TO PLAYLIST: That Lady, Pts. 1 & 2, Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight, You Walk Your Way, Listen to the Music, What It Comes Down To, Sunshine (Go Away Today), Summer Breeze, Pts. 1 & 2, The Highways of My Life
Ça groove !!
J'aime trop ces styles de découvertes c'était bien funky un régal
Nothing but quality here from the world’s best cover band
This album was way better than I remembered. They were tight and soulful. There was maybe one or two songs that felt like they needed to fill space like their cover of Listen to the Music, but other than that I loved it.
Smooth as, lads.
really liked this one the music is groovy 9/10
Loved hearing the original songs! Motown is the best.
Quintessential R&B/Soul—very, very enjoyable & relaxing.
Pretty good.
Summer Breeze is lush. Didn't know about the Doobies cover. Makes me want to head off to Skegness and large it up. Yep.
Nice smooth music, big number of hits for one album. Yet now more than four stars, i got a bit tired of it after repeated listening
A neat disco funk. Pretty sure "That Lady" is the sample for "i by K.Dot". Surprisingly good 7/10
Favourite track: That Lady
It’s pretty good but I listen to this genre way too much often and comparing to other masterpieces this is a bit mid. Cool keyboard and guitar though 3.5/5
Great intro song to start off the album and it's just series of good songs there after. It's soulful, fun, and buttery smooth. The addition of covers does knock it down a peg or two but I can't deny how incredibly groovy this album was. "The Highways of My Life" was a splendid resolution to the album, absolute class. Top 5: That Lady, Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight, If You Were There (fav), Summer Breeze, and The Highways of My Life (2nd) no bad songs 4.25-4.50/5
Love it, brilliant composition, all songs are good. Who's that lady is an absolute banger. 4.2
can't go wrong with summer breeze - great chill album
Top, se lo voy a recomendar automáticamente a mi padre, que ha vuelta a su era funky. Las instrumentales son todas brillantes y me encanta que hagan iteraciones de hasta 4 partes para prolongar el potencial de algunas. Favs: If You Were There, That Lady Pt 1, Summer Breeze SQ-Quad Mix
Smooth as silk. 🤷♂️) Favs: That Lady, Listen to the Music, Summer Breeze
Just great music. Whether doing their own songs or interpreting other writers, these guys are so soulful and rocking. Love every second of this album.
A great blend of funk, soul and rock. At times though, you sort of wish that the band had just sort of leaned into the style that they struck with the opener. That Lady really carries the first half of this album, and I suspect they knew it by putting it as Track One, Side A. It is a song that feels like it is going to collapse under its own groove but just keeps going, a supremely listenable track. The cover of Listen to the Music isn’t as good as the original however the lyrics are now comprehensible? The rest of the album is good, very competently-performed soul/funk the only other track that stood out to me was the cover of Summer Breeze which is a very unique take on a great song and the return of Ernie Isley’s distorted guitar here doesn’t hurt either. I am being a bit too negative here, I enjoyed every track on this album. This isn’t an experimental, groundbreaking album but it has no skips and it’s really, really enjoyable. Highlights: That Lady, Summer Breeze
Solid
Slaps
Its funky and enjoyable. Sure it isn't the best thing I've heard but I could listen and vibe to it easily. Mastering was good too.
Great album.
Some pretty iconic songs on this album
A little funk a little disco. Good listen. Was really glad to learn I was confusing the Isley Bros with the Everly Bros.
I mean, it's pretty damn funky
Undoubtedly awesome
Some nice rockin soul. This version of summer breeze is something!
Enjoyable, really good. A joy.
Oh my god, what an amazing album! It is a great song after a good song. It is not perfect because some of the songs linger for a long time, but the fun vibe is perfect. . I've learnt that I love soul with this project. I am loving it!
As well giving them a chance to rock some frankly incredible outfits on the cover, this funky, soulful album shows off the Isley Brothers' writing, singing, musicianship and their ability to make other people's songs their own. Sorry Seals & Crofts, Summer Breeze is theirs now and they are not giving it back.
I liked it but also can't remember any songs from it.
Silky, smooth, funky fresh soul & r&b at its finest. The stark difference between the singles & album can be jarring but that elongated bluesy version of That Lady is just amazing.
pretty great
Liked this. Many familiar tracks.
Really well music! I don’t like the interviews at the end of album on Spotify though. And since I’m here to review THE ALBUM; -1*
This album was so good and full of hits and happiness
So many gems
Well that was phenomenal. The Isley Brothers are a blind spot for me and I just don't think I really knew who they were... confusing the Doobie Brothers, the Allman Brothers, the Isley Brothers, and whatever other Brothers Bands there were in the 60s and 70s. But I dug this from start to finish. Even though sounds I've heard a million times such as "The Lady" gripped me and I think I might like their coverss of "Listen to the Music" and "Summer Breeze" better than the originals.
Funky, groovy en allemaal andere dingen die ervoor zorgen dat mijn brein even denkt dat het juli is, 30 graden aanvoelt en ik een Mojito in m'n handen heb. 3.7
I knew way more Isley Brothers songs than I thought. I love the mix of smooth R&B vocals with the rock guitars.
Ah ouais mais c'était vachement bien.
nice album :D cool seal and crofts cover and i liked “if you were there” the only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars is because i don’t believe it’s perfect
Definitely worth a listen.
Fun album to get you moving!
i liked it a lot
Banger! Very groovy and catchy
Very groovy.
This album has insane swag
7/10
Pretty enjoyable. I accidentally put some kind of deluxe version and didn't realise that I'd listened to much more than I originally intended, which is a good sign, I think!
Wasn't expecting it to be mostly bangers.
Makes me want to light every candle I have.
This perfectly encapsulates the black 70s sound in more ways I can say. It was so good I listened to it twice before writing this.
Classic in every sense of the word. Nice to hear again.
Classic funk
A trip back in time to a groovy era that warms the soul.
Whoever said that family bands can't be cool? Well ok, the majority are hard to argue for. For the Isley Brothers, recording in the room next store to Stevie Wonder is probably a coincidence, but without knowing anything more about their history, it really sounds like the funk and soul legend allowed part of his talent to rub off on their recording. You only need to listen to the familiar opening track "That Lady" to know that this was going to be a fun 70s album.
Listening to music like this is good for your mental health I fear
Well funky.
Extremely pleasant!
This was a fun one. Cool hearing the various songs that’ve been covered and sampled. This is definitely one i’m glad I’ve learned about through this list
This was great -- super funky, very Al Green-esque and lots of great feel. The covers (Summer Breeze, Listen to the Music) were great, and the originals were wonderful too. The flavor can get a little old after a while, but I still listened to it twice and thought it was great. Four stars.
Good good psychedelic soul with just a touch of funk. I'm loving the preponderance of soul and funk that the generator is giving us lately
This is more a flavor of soul I can get behind. Funky fresh with some criiiispy guitar work.
Lovely album, like a warm hug with impeccable musicianship. Upbeat and a joy to listen to. Consistently good all the way through, That Lady and Summer Breeze are absolute classics. Added to rotation.
4.2
A good relaxing album to mellow out with. 4 stars or B+.
noodly, grafunkly but with a twist. nice
Awesome
Great vibes throughout this album, with bouncing grooves, upbeat vocals and funky bass lines. Really enjoyable album.
Lindo album, funky clásico
Good album with some decent tracks
I wonder if this is more of a 3 star album, but it's so smooth.
This was shockingly good. I loved the sound. I wish there were more original songs though! The covers were still pretty fun
⭐︎4.3 ジミヘンにインスパイアされたギターが耳に残る。 ドゥービーブラザーズのカバーも新鮮。 モータウンらしからぬボーカルグループという印象。70年代だけかも? 現在も活動してる。
Great music that’s been around for decades. They just keep adding brothers! I love the guitar player. Similar to Santana
Summer breeze and that lady I recognised Rest was good to listen to, no bad songs
Solid vibes. I don’t think I see myself listening to this all the time, but I’d definitely put it on the speakers while cleaning or doing something around the house
Great funk, the bass, the guitar, the keyboard!
Done! Finished listening to this today while editing my resume. It was a fun vibe. Will listen to it again. Didn't listen very carefully but enjoyed it.
fire 8/10
This was amazing, but did it touch me...nope. But it made me laugh out loud in a very nice way because it surprised me.
I like
Good stuff
Wow. What a blast from the past. Too bad they didn’t have very many hits.
Some great covers, showcases the range this band has. Classic album.
incredible!!
One of the great rock/soul albums.
86/100.
Some really good songs, little bit of filler
It first listen, the lead off single "That Lady" did not click, but hearing the record, it picked up.
This definitely deserves to be on the list.
Better than Coldplay
On 3+3 The Isley Brothers assemble a pretty spectacular funk and soul album, with a little psych. What struck me first while listening to this is how good it *sounds*, the guitar tone, the synth tone, the vocals: all super rich and unique. There are also tons of amazing songs here, and while I know several are covers, I listened to the originals, and these interpretations are almost completely unrecognizable as their source material at times. And honestly, it is usually for the better. The originals here are also great. That Lady is a fantastic opener, and an amazing funk song. The rest of side one is also very good, but I do think this really takes it up a notch in its second half. What It Comes Down To and The Highways Of My Life are both originals, and they are incredible. And the two covers between them are among the greatest songs here. Sunshine (Go Away Today) is interpreted as a really odd, kind of unusually dark sounding funk song. And The Isley Brothers' interpretation of Summer Breeze may be the single greatest achievement here. We have the original folk song, covered as a soul song, with incredibly epic guitar solos and this super cool synth work. This was a pretty great listen, I just didn't get as much out of the first side, and the fact that many of my favorite tracks are covers kind of made my more hyperbolic praise pull back a little. Still amazing!
8/10
Loved this!! Incredible guitar work and such bangers in here. I recognised the first track as something we’d often play at my old workplace and was sold from there.
Really good album. Cool to hear some songs that I recognized as samples.
Didn’t know this was them!
yessssssss
3.5 stars. Good soul/funk record. Standouts are covers "That Lady Pt. 1" and "Summer Breeze".
Loved it! Will return to this group again for sure.
Something compelled me to play this on a sunny drive home from work. I was pulled in on a summer breeze! I knew they were soulful and funky but the great sound throughout from the band, especially the cool guitar, took me by surprise. A really enjoyable listen, very 70s, very cool, bathed in a golden light. The spacey guitar is great, almost psychedelic. Really good. Doesn't dip. Not too long. Hard to believe they wrote 'Shout' and had a hit with 'This Old Heart Of Mine' years before then reinvented themselves with this sound. The arrangements and production are stunning. One negative - lots of covers and The Doobie Brothers original of 'Listen to The Music' is far better than their cover.
Another good funky album. Never heard of these guys but recognised a few songs. Skipped the different mixes and interviews as I presume they weren’t on the original album
Funky!
Perfect Summer album serving with this one. Great vibes and energy from start to finish. The hits hit so hard too. That Lady, Listen to the Music and Summer Breeze are all great but that’s not to say the other tunes aren’t good, they just don’t reach the same level. The funk and soul blend on 3+3 is a mood enhancer and I really enjoyed this. 4 stars
This album was a good listen. I don't think I realized the Isley Brothers covered so many songs.
Fun and funky.
Most of these covers I like better than the originals, including the first song (covering themselves). There’s something bold in covering so many white guys’ songs. A lot of soul, but a lot of funk with it.
Fun! Never heard any of the covers before
Smooth album
Super hyggelig album!
cool!!!!!!
I like it a lot. Too many covers though. Although summer breeze is quite nice. I’ll be looking at other Isley brothers albums for sure. Funky and soulful.
Holy shit, does this album absolutely smoke! I have a greatest hits of theirs that I wasn't too impressed with. That was my extent of knowing them. This album is banger after banger, with a couple I need to research to see if they're covers! Great discovery!
As far as soul goes, this is just about as theatrical as it gets, which normally would be a bad thing but I think that this album pulls it off really well. Mixing influences like Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder, it all comes together for a very solid and consistent soul album that still has just enough going on to still make it out of the more unique ones out there.
Very nice listening
really awesome album and kind of an undeniable intro i was into it right away and also i was really stoked to hear a cover of the premier baha'i band seals and crofts on this bad boy
Nice summertime fare. Relaxed funkiness. Especially liked their cover of Listen to the Music.
Delightful
Some serious bangers on here.
I've never heard an Isley Brothers album before and didn't know what to expect other than maybe smooth RnB stuff. I was pleasantly surprised with the vibrancy and skillful mix of blues, soul, and electric funk. It's a winning combo and a smooth listen. I really liked this.
Music I’ve heard in movies and commercials (complimentary)
Funky fun fab
Pleased that I still liked the album that I played so often back in the 80s.
Good vibes. Especially in the summer. Smooth
Fantastic in parts, less amazing in others. Wasn’t quite sure where to land with this so doing my usual rounding up to 4
Great album would listen again
great stuff
5 stars for who's that lady and summer breeze. 4 for the rest.
love the guitar effects classic funk soul, great piano expecting most of this album to ping-pong back and forth between slower piano-driven melodies into overdriven shredding pop rock ballads guitarist is consistently talented and i love when u can more prevalently hear the bass, like in You Walk Your Way Summer Breeze is just so good
Diverse tunes stylistically on a single album. Impeccable playing by everyone in the band. Quality guitar playing that was unexpectedly good. This albums placement on this list is well deserved. Listening to it makes me want to drop everything and start dancing.
Straight up good music.
Summer breeze makes me feel fiiine!
Besides 'That Lady' being one of the greatest funk soul records of all time, an improbably rugged yet smooth package of spirit, w/ perhaps one of the more underrated guitar solos in popular music history, this album is a true classic of 70s soul. It's peculiar too. Ronald Isley doesn't have the most recognizable voice, he's not a luminous talent in the way Smokey Robinson or Stevie Wonder are, but together w/ his brothers, he brews a stunningly memorable sound. I think it has something to do w/ the fact that they are nearly sans genre, somehow and somewhere between soul, funk, gospel, and, most evocatively, 'rock.' W/o the Isley Bros, you'd'n't have p-funk or g-funk, but you'd also be w/o arena rock: up-close-and-impersonal magic.
# 20 The Isley Brothers ~ 3 + 3 I love me some Motown, and this is a very good Motown record on our hands here. 3+3 is probably what can be considered the Isley Brothers breakthrough, written around the time of Wonder's Innervisions, but the reality is they had a bunch of early hits that were eventually covered and made into staples. Stuff like 'It's Your Thing' and 'Twist and Shout'. They are quite nice songs, but perhaps they didn't have a wow factor that covers captured later on. I don't think you can say that about this album. Some incredibly charming songs, with a very smooth danceable feel helped by some very nice vocal harmonies and instrumental work on the piano, guitar and synths. Not necessarily as punchy as the contemporary funk of Stevie, but definitely it can stand side by side in its own way. Nice calming pop tunes. Stand out track is the first track, That Lady, before it slides out into some chill pretty songs before it kicks off in the final with Summer Breeze and The Highways of My Life.
I get why it's a classic but the music is not my cup of meat.
cant listen to that lady, heard it way too many times in commercials Otherwise really good album
Fantastic album! Terrific R&B, great rhythm. Great sound!
Grooving. My thing.
Oh hell yes
7.5/10 Another one with ups and downs, but this had more highs than lows. Vibes good, really nice songs. Intricate production. Some Stevie Wonder here, maybe some Al Green in the vocals occasionally. Best: Summer Breeze
ughhhhhh gorg
Such a good time. If You Were There flirted with me at the Applebees bar and then You Walk Your Way tossed my salad on a booth under an Applebees stained glass light fixture. I think we all know what happened during Sunshine (Go Away).
Headbopper
Great soul funk vibes
pretty good
Very likeable, listening yesterday, but by this morning much of it had slipped from my memory a bit. It's possible I had a minor stroke in my sleep, or maybe this isn't up to Curtis Mayfield levels of greatness, and (Summer Breeze aside), is a little bit forgettable. 3 stars would be harsh, though.
It's funky and it rocks. I've heard better but could do worse.
I should by all accounts enjoy this. The genre descriptions are promising, and I've seen these guys sampled in a bunch of stuff. Judging by the album cover this looks like a good time. Hoping I'm correct. That Lady I instantly recognized this instrumental from Kendrick Lamar's "i". It's such a great funky tune with a seriously cool guitar and some fantastic vocals. So funky, so fun and so smooth. Amazing start. The instrumental section is just glorious. Fantastic. 5/5 Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight Buttery smooth. Love the vocals here. That guitar is so cheesy, but works pretty well with the overall vibe of the song. Don't love the fade out. Decent. 3.5/5 If You Were Here Really interesting instrumental, feels oddly complex. Especially the bassline. Appreciate the overall positive atmosphere of the track. Infectious vocal melody on the chorus. Gloriously cheesy backing vocals. Great. 4.5/5 You Walk Your Way Crunchy organ. Fantastic piano. Love the high notes in the vocals. Great backing vocals. Good. 4/5 Listen to the Music Gloriously funky guitar riff. Distinct and charismatic vocals. Awesome bass. Catchy and easy to listen to. Not overly familiar with the original, but they perform it like it's their own so no complaints there. (After listening to it I would definitely say this is a very transformative cover) Good. 4/5 What It Comes Down To Smooth and clean. Has all the building blocks that make the previous songs memorable and continues the very enjoyable trend of the rest of the album. Has some really good instrumental moments and a very good chorus. Fantastic guitar. Fantastic. 5/5 Sunshine (Go Away Today) Interesting intro, has a dark atmosphere to it. Love the deep bass tone. Cool structure. Smooth and groovy instrumental. Good. 4/5 Summer Breeze Awesome guitar, will be stuck in my head for a while. Lovely chorus. Heavenly backing vocals. Great atmosphere overall. That solo is amazing. Fantastic. 5/5 The Highways of My Life I like the more active percussion in the instrumental. Decent bassline. The vocals are again just lovely. Fun song, though not a standout. Decent. 3.5/5 That was just what I needed today. An uncomplicated, accessible album with smooth and layered vocals, fun and groovy instrumentals and a positive atmosphere. It feels great to listen to something so funky and soulful. It's a simple and likable album with a bunch of songs that make you feel good. Instrumentally both the bass and the guitar stand out, both being utilized in varied and dynamic ways. Fantastic solos as well. I love both the main and backing vocals and the way they interact. There's just some fantastic synergy between the parts. Overall I'm impressed by how thoroughly enjoyable everything on here is. And while it's not something you'd call a masterpiece, it's always gonna be a good listen when you're feeling something smooth. 4.5/5 rounded down to a 4/5
Wow, they wrote so many songs I was not aware of.
:)
Die Brüder kannte ich natürlich schon, aber nicht das ganze Album. Herrlich old school.
It's a classic for a reason, but oh my god, they were absolutely cooking making this one. How does your brain even think to come up with all the guitar solos on this one, but then contrast it with the beautiful piano melodies? It's insane.
Several covers. easy listening for sure. Great voices
Good album, I should listen to it again but I'm on vacation and behind in my list. Solid funk feel though
Toppie
Some really great songs: That Lady, Summer Breeze. But also some not so good. But the good ones are truly great.
Cover; 5 Great album. No skips.
Alot of samples from this- first obvious one is Kendrick which is super sick
Groovy! Cool covers too
Pretty solid - several recognizable songs that I didn't know were them.
Vibed the whole way through
Enjoyable album with soul covers of some good songs
Funky as Fuck
Beautiful 70s disco mixed with gospel music! The depth of emotion and soul is amazing. Some songs are bit samey in places
Catchy, great sounds
dear lord this album was smooth as fuckk
That Lady, Pts. 1 & 2 - 5/5 Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight - 5/5 If You Were There - 4/5 You Walk Your Way - 4/5 Listen to the Music - 3/5 What It Comes Down To - 4/5 Sunshine (Go Away Today) - 2/5 Summer Breeze, Pts. 1 & 2 - 5/5 The Highways of My Life - 5/5 Average score: 4.1/5
Music I totally didn't know. My first association was the Doobie Brothers, and hey, there's a cover on this album! But it definitely has a Funkadelic-vibe. Especially because of what makes this album the most interesting: the sometimes great guitar work with a markable fuzz-sound by 17-year old Ernie Isley. The use of ARP and Moog synthesizers is also noteworthy. Less noteworthy: it's a bit weird that, while they are certainly able to pen their own songs - and were once even covered by the Beatles - four out of nine songs here are covers. Summer Breeze is possibly the best song, though, because of the guitar. A rather pleasant surprise.
Soul brothers. That classic 70’s funk and rock.
Classy stuff from them. Their voices sound great together. Probably a 3.5, rounded up because it’s worth more than a 3
Fantastic a slab of fabulous soul and a side order of funk. Almost on a par with Marvin Gaye. Really enjoyed.
Loved the funky soul songs and space guitar. Nice album.
Excellent!
Honestly, I would never have listened to this album if not for this project, and I was so glad to be introduced to it. The songs sound modern and fresh, and the grooves are irresistible.
This was a great album with an incredible amount of talent on display. A really enjoyable listen.
Отличный душевный альбом, подходящий почти для любого настроения. Есть как романтические композиции, так и пободрее. Общее жизнерадостное настроение так же присутствует. 7 из 10.
Cool funk album with a few covers mixed in with some original songs.
Tge month of May is a good time to lusten to this b
really good. don’t really have much to say other than they’re good. just very catchy and smooth and fun and interesting.
Starts off strong with the iconic "That Lady", which is actually a reworked version of the group's single from a few years prior for those that didn't know. There are a few other covers mixed in, including a funky rendition of the Doobie Brother's "Listen to the Music". Pretty enjoyable album overall. You know what you're getting into when the Isley Brothers show up.
Love me some funk
7/10 Funky, obviously. The musicianship is top notch, and the song writings great - whether it is theirs or finely picked other people's.
Gorgeous album, That Lady is so much fun and their summer breeze cover is pretty cool too
Funktastic

Classic soul record. Smooth, smooth, smooth. This is a summer album to be played at dusk. Super chill into an awesome funk roll. A great snapshot of the 70’s. Set to repeat
Excellent rock/funk album. Had not really heard of them before, but they’ll be making my 70’s playlist for sure!
Very funky
Unreal grooves, impeccable performances. Wonderful album.
Phenomenal album. 8/10
Pretty good
4 out of 5. Pleasantly surprised by this one.
The funk songs are funky, the soul songs have soul and the R&B ballads are sickly sweet. Beautiful vocals and excellent musicianship. An album so smooth you could spread it on toast. Best Tracks: That Lady, Pts. 1&2; Listen To The Music; Summer Breeze, Pts. 1&2
Before listening to this album, I’d have said that I don’t know any songs by The Isley Brothers. It turns out that I actually know most songs here! This is the kind of smooth funk music that you’re guaranteed to hear at your nan’s birthday party, and to be fair it consistently gets people dancing. I enjoyed this, but it would be a stretch to say I loved it.
Jazz | Funk | Soul Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight reminds me of Bobby Womack. Really slow-burning. Great guitar. Some really fun songs too, That Lady Pts. 1 & 2 special mention. 3+3 sounds like a relationship in half-light. It has that cool 70's fade out, reminds me of the Ronettes. Happy go lucky, feel good.
Wow, what a great album! Had only heard the singles. These guys are fantastic and this is the perfect summer funk album. Loved the covers of "Summer Breeze" and "Sunshine," and "Who's That Lady?" is perfection period.
The fits go crazy But seriously, I wonder why we sometimes get their less popular albums?? It is also super impressive how long their music career has spanned, and given the variety and evolution of styles they engage in. Really speaks to them as musicians, I guess. Late night dinner dates/cooking in a rainy apartment with the window open vibes go HARD.
Solid funk and groove all around.
Holy shit I love the Isley brothers now
can the isley brothers do wrong? the answer is no
Pretty good. Groovy yet original.
Quality funk and soul with some classic songs. Good stuff all round close to a 5
I would say this is between a 3 and a 4. The album has 4 interviews which I don't love. The songs are good though, but I'm not sure what is original vs covers
So smooth and groovy. This was an excellent listen and it's an album that has aged wonderfully. You could have told me this came out in 2025 and I would probably believe you. I think there are artists today trying to get this same sound.
So good. So groovy. I love the soul and gospel elements mixed with incredible psych and rock elements. The guitars solos, the fuzzy pedals, the wahs, the bass lines. Its so damn good. And they're such a tight band too. This stuff is all played with precision. I thoroughly enjoyed this.
Jams all the way through
Amazing recordings, great guitar playing, fantastic feel. Great for a morning.
I really enjoyed the album loved the funk and disco.
Interesting album. Enjoyed each song.
So most folks know some Isley Brothers tunes. These folks had hits. Listening to this album made me decide to pull their whole discography and listen to their stuff from start to finish. Fun fact, they started out as a do wop group in 59. This is a great soul/funk album.
Cooool!!
9/10 album. The summer breeze is the best on the album with that guitar solo. But I think the Highways of My Life is my favorite. Man this is great. Future me I hope you enjoy the rest of the albums. This sparked something inside that makes me want to explore more music.
This is a funky effort with fantastic singing and musicianship. Summer Breeze has a killer guitar solo. Some songs are better than others. Highlights: "That Lady", "If You Were There", "You Walk Your Way", "What It Comes Down To" & "Summer Breeze".
Most of this album I really dig quite a bit, especially the first side. But most of the covers don't do it for me. Their take On James Taylor's "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight" is aces, the rest, I'm not crazy about the arrangements. Though I'm not a big fan of "Sumner Breeze" in general, it actually does have a killer solo on it, one of the best on the album. But the rest of the song ain't my thing. (What cha gonna do?). All the originals are supurb. "That Lady" has always been a fave of mine. Given the first four tracks and the side 2 opener, "What it Comes Down To", I can't drop this below the four threshold. All in all it's too good. 8.25/10 ★★★★
Nice psychedelic soul, with really good guitar work. 4 stars
Banger
Didn't think I'd enjoy this as much as I did
Jeez, 11th album and you drop this much of a banger? Funky dancing music with some sick guitar mixed in? Hell yeah. 4.5
This was fun, and sexy.
Good
Love all the hip hop samples taken from this album. Funky jam here, will probably listen again.
classic r&b/soul
So much fun to listen to. Just feel good banger after banger. Everything was so smooth. I might like this cover of Summer Breeze more than the original, especially the guitar floating me away at the end.
Funk, Soul, eine Prise Blues
Hot damn, this thing has groove for days. Like, deep-in-your-hips, strut-across-the-room funk. The guitar work is buttery and cocky at the same time - dude really knows he’s the shit and lets it sing. The soul is thick. It’s giving a tighter, cleaner Parliament - less space freakout, more bedroom cool. The interviews are weirdly tossed in there though. Felt like stumbling into a behind-the-scenes doc halfway through dancing. Still, it slaps. Spins: 3 Playlist Additions: - That Lady - Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight - Listen To The Music - Summer Breeze - The Highways of My Life
Favorite Track: That Lady, Pts. 1 & 2
75/1089 - Something sounds weird with the mixing or it might be my ears since I can't currently hear high-frequencies due to sinus issues. I'll listen again. Some good straightforward funk music but a bit too much synth noodling for me.
Surprisingly good! 4/5
I liked it a lot. The Isley brothers are a classic but I’d never listened to an album all the way through. This type of music, while objectively fantastic, is not always what I want to listen to. But it’s great nonetheless the less
Funky, R/B, something nice to groove to
Bonus points for that stellar orange hat
Funktastic!
Very impressed by this album but it only gets 4 stars since most songs ar not
Crazy how a decade before this they were singing Twist and Shout!
3+3=4
oh my goodness i love this album so much. this is the first album to that i’ve listened to from this website that i know i’m going to replay not just favorite it and then save it for later. i did not know whether to rate it a 5 or a 4 but i just decided on 4.5 because not every song was my favorite and non-skip-able, or a “perfect album.” but it was so so so good i even did some research on the members and i’ve added the songs to a playlist. i found that mainly my favorite songs were those that consisted of more of a “rock” genre and less of r&b and soul. for example, i really liked “if you were there,” “sunshine (go away today),” with “what it comes down to” and “sunshine breeze, pts. 1 & 2” being my absolute golden favorites. cannot stress enough how lovely of an album this is and if i could i would give it a 4.5. i will definitely be listening to more of their music. 💕
Good album. Great songs. Amazing melodies.
Funky stuff. My dad loved the Isley Bros when I was a kid, so this was definitely nostalgic. 4/5 Album 9/1001
Solid, solid. Lots of hits and good funk here!
March 21, 2025 HL: “That Lady”, “Sunshine”, “Summer Breeze” The Isleys conduct a study entitled: How Smooth is Too Smooth Results: inconclusive This is a gentle ride all the way through but also provides some unique takes on songs like “Listen to the Music” & “Sunshine Go Away Today”
Blowing’ through the Jasmin of my mind So much soul, so much funk So smoooooth
Solid soul, not too long
I swear I can't have a bad time with funk or soul records from this generator, especially when hearing the ways in which they both out of my music bubble yet still can see how they are so similar to things I enjoy, like the guitar on That Lady sounds like something more people should study for great guitar tones and production. Just all around great and keeps me excited for any other Isley Bros or Funk as a whole that comes my way (if not exploring it on my own which very well could happen!)
was really good, will realisten soon and give a good review. 8/10 so far
Very fun soul funk album. Had fun all the way through.
Så skön soul! Jävlar vad de svänger om rösterna! Stark fyra!
fun! great guitar parts too. That Lady is so classic. 3.5
Super trop smooth d'album soul, on me gâte bien ses temps-ci
Skyline Chili and the Isley Brothers, the only two good things the city of Cincinnati has ever given us.
Dude. I had a great time. Don’t really remember any specific parts of the album even, but I know it was fun.
Pretty mundane throughout, especially with the lyrics, though definitely not with the vocals which do help a lot to compensate for the often repetitive lyrics and instrumentation. Just leaves it feeling like most of the songs drone on for way too long even though they aren’t awfully long. Also RIP Chris Jasper, apparently he died the day I got this album. Okay actually just listened to this a second time and my opinion is completely changed. The funk is now within me. This slaps. Edit: (3->4) somehow wrote that second paragraph after relinquishing myself in the funk and did not give this album more than three stars. I am so sorry that was a serious sin and I will go repent now. My bad gentlemen and gentleladies.
Yessirrrr
This was fun! Put me in a great mood!
2/24/25. Classic soul right here, Isley Brothers are always a joy to listen to. This one is among their best.
Awesome, catchy grooves! WHAT IT COMES DOWN TO, Sunshine (GO AWAY TODAY) and YOU WALK YOUR WAY were highlights for me!
A lot of fun
This was very enjoyable. Knew a lot of the songs without knowing I knew them ya know?
Funky and soulful. Good for chilling and vibing.
Great Soul/Funk
very fun very groovy, and usually I think that Summer Breeze kinda stinks, but these guys made it so good smash that like button if you like Summer Breeze pt 2 more than pt 1 yall
You have three monster tracks then you're going to get three stars: Lady, Breeze, Don't Let Me. Is the rest of the album a pretty good funk-soul workout lifted by that guitar sound. Yes it is. Four stars. I have the now-deleted Greatest Hits and it is one of the Greatest Greatest Hits.
Long-ass album but man is it funky.
Fun funk, high 4
They are nice jams. Featuring that lady is pretty funny to slap on the cover Will I listen to again: 50%
Fun!
Super funky, super catchy all the way through. Loved the vocals on this.
Was not expecting a funky James Taylor cover, but here we are. 4/5
Great funk/soul album.
smooth and good mood. love it
I was expecting mostly just soul, so I was pleasantly surprised to get some funky acid jazz type songs to go along with it
