Reviews (page 4 of 12)

Most excellent end to end. Good flow and a lot of variety. Guitarists in this genre can just wale man. It’s impressive. 3.75

This album fucks 3.5/5

This was great.

Pleasantly surprised -- 4

Funky fresh, cool covers, overall a fun listen. Got a bit cheesy at times but the beat and groove kept me going.

4 sterne

Summer Breeze is eternal. Great album

Oh, man.....this jam packed with some soulidified covers!! What a great revisit! Tough to beat The Isley Brothers for some smoother than silk jams!

I love most of the tracks, but on some the funk was too strong and the high pitch of some on the instruments made it hard to keep listening

A solid album effort with a great leadoff effort of That Lady. Solid covers of Listen to The Music, Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight and Summer Breeze. Great musical grooves beats n rhythms.

So much fun!

This is a great album in a genre that isn’t my very favorite but I still like. I think I will need to come back to it to really appreciate it, but the hooks and grooves are undeniable. 3+3 gets a 4!

People in funk, soul, and R&B were cooking in the 70s and 80s, and the Isley Brothers were no exception to that. This album feels more accessible than Funkadelic and resembles Stevie Wonder's golden period. There were some songs that sounded super close to disco but not really. Even so, this record has all the things I love: grooves, catchy melodies, and harmonies.

- ohhhh yeah - Funkified James Taylor was something I didn’t realize I needed in my life - That organ is so tasty - The synths they’re using are just so perfectly placed - Goddamn that Summer Breeze riff sounds so good on this - This album rules. The originals are so crisp and the covers are awesome

No es mi tipo de musica...aunque suenan bien

This just made me happy. Really enjoyed it.

Not my type of music and didn’t have high expectations but actually kinda peak

The Isley Brothers have been so influential on popular music, but they often feel so overlooked. Solid album.

I’m most impressed by the covers and how fantastic they sound in their own style of funk. I really enjoyed this.

Psychedelic soul, showed the way for mj That lady Listen to the musi Summer breeze

Back to back bangers

Cycling to work on a sunny May morning, this was exactly the soundtrack I needed

Rigtig godt!!

I love a good boogie y'all

Institution of the Funkadelic era. The album kicks down the door with That Lady and keeps delivering hit after hit. Keeping it in the family helped the band strike gold on this project.

Nice listen, cool instrumentals. I think Vulfpeck borrows heavily from the Isley Brothers, because I could recognise many sounds and tricks. For me, however, the best Vulfpeck songs are more memorable and fun than the songs on this album, because they perfected this genre and combined it with modern pop sensibilities. There are two things that I think 3+3 suffers from: 1. Some songs drag on for too long and become too 'jam-sessioney'. 2. Some instrumental parts (especially the guitars) are overplayed and take too much focus off the main vocals.

I was already familiar with this album before listening. This is a great funk album. The best song is probably That Lady, which is a rework of an older Isley Brothers song. There are some other covers as well. The guitar and bass work is strong, and the vocals are top notch as well. I would listen to this album any time.

Wow! This is what I’m here for… What a joy to discover an album with some known songs and then the rest of the album is just brilliant. What an absolute gem. Just perfect for a lazy Sunday morning - which by chance it is! Easy 4

Damn I didn’t expect this to be so awesome. What an opening track.

You’re listening to this music when you realize that now is the perfect time to aggressively point at and dance towards your sleeping cat. Ruin his nap for your pleasure through the power of song

Very vibey

Yes, much better than the early Beatles I just had to listen to. Yes! Just the ticket. The Brothers deliver. Percussion. Funky bass. Vocals. Fairly well placed keyboards and synths. Sometimes too much treble, but it’s 1973, the era of disco. Man, I’d almost give this a 5. But… that treble. 4 solid, really 4.5. Boolean rating: yes, for sure, very glad to hear before I die.

Great RNB album. Had a lot of songs that I didn’t know were covers of them on it

Cooking a nice breakfast for no particular reason on a warm Saturday morning. 4/5

groovy, i like

Fun and funky

Eyy no tenía fé porque no los conocía pero la verdad es un álbum con mucha energía y estilos geniales.

Slightly repetitive towards the end. Good samples for hip hop

it was okay

A fun funk/soul album

These songs are like your favorite items from childhood. They bring joy, a flood of memories, and nostalgia of a different time.

What an absolutely wild ride. Effortlessly funky with splashes of spiky psych guitar amidst the seamlessly smooth harmonies. Not as much a fan of the straight ballads - when they follow the groove this album of unstoppable. Feel the joy.

By the 11th album you're supposed to be doing "An Isley Christmas" or "The Isley Brothers Sing the Music of Pat Boone". You're certainly not meant to be going this hard! Great guitar and harmony vocals in some very funky tracks. Their cover of "Listen to the Music" is clearly superior to the original and the guitar solo on, of all things, Seals and Crofts "Summer Breeze" will melt your face off.

I love this album. The music and vocals are out of this world and the grooves are epic. R&B at it's best. Love it

I really enjoyed this, actually listened to it twice! I mean, as a friend of mine put it, if buddy's gonna play a strat against a bare chest, you know it's gonna be good shit.

Nicely produced, good songs...what else to say?

Sehr cooles Album! Super chilliger Sound und smooth wie Butter auf dem Armaturenbrett im Sommer

Funky, aber auch groovy

Loved the instrumentation on this album. Ernie Isley kills it on the guitar, and the ARP, Moog, and clavinet keyboards are killer too. Had some covers of songs I already love on the second side, and I really enjoyed hearing them interpreted in a new way.

This was great - only complaint is it was a little long

Fantastic album overall with a lot of really great hits. I knew a lot of the music already, probably at least half of the album. A couple of the tracks didn't hold up with time (at least in my opinion) but the majority were great.

Nice & mellow, a little too cheesy for me, but superb melodies, great deep voices

love it!

Nothing groundbreaking but some of the tunes were truly amazing. The interview bits were a nice touch too.

Incredibly funky with brilliant guitar and vocals throughout. Excellent album 8/10

Who is THIS crew! Wow I had no idea. So many iconic songs here what! That Lady! Listen to the music! Summer Breeze!

I picked up on some source Beastie Boys samples on this one. Just effortlessly cool!

Prior to listening, I am already familiar with the Isley Brothers, and this will be my first time listening to one of their projects in full. Summer Breeze and That Lady are two personal favorites of mine so this full listen will be interesting. After listening, I can say that this album is filled with a lot of funk and groove. This was a fun listen throughout.

This album stunned me from the start. The way it combines soul and funk with just the right pinch of psychedelic sounds made me appreciate it even more. The lyrics aren't really its strongest aspect, but the guitar work is incredible and the energy is non-stop. It has swagger, and it has soul. When I finished it, I immediately listened to it again because I was so mesmerized by the good vibes the project gives off. I'll definitely be revisiting it soon. I have a feeling it might become one of my go-to summer albums this year. My favorite tracks are "That Lady, Pts. 1 & 2" and "Summer Breeze, Pts. 1 & 2".

Peanut butter smooth. I enjoyed their take on Summer Breeze. Absolutely great guitar work. I could definitely listen again!

Summer breeze makes me feel fiiine

Some classic tunes on here everyone will recognize even if they don’t know it’s The Isley Brothers. A fun listen and would fit at most gatherings. Would listen again.

Veit hva dem driver med

It was good, actually. 4-ish.

A great album that I don't listen to enough. That songwriting and musicianship is next level

Just a really solid album. Great vocals, great covers, great production. Fun, light, short. Put it on and have a great time. No complaints.

Wonderful

I loved it all but the interviews at the end. Really puts the brakes on the party.

Very good to listen to if I were to be in love. Would be a good album to listen to in front of friends to sound cool and niche. Is very cool vibes, not chill but good background music?

Honestly only like one song from the album but like it so much that:

was a easy listen

an excellent listen

This was not what I thought The Isley Brothers were! Really enjoyed, pleasantly surprised

Listened to before? No Context? The band’s eleventh album, and the beginning of their huge commercial success, added more funk to their sound. *Reviewed in a song-by-song format* I was skeptical at first, because the first thirty seconds was obnoxious, but they had me at the chorus of That Lady. It’s not a particularly original song, but god it’s good. What makes it even better is the jam that ends it—a dance of ridiculously fun funk guitar and dance synth. The vibe is immediately changed with Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight, which features wonderfully raw vocals and a beautiful smattering of instrumentals, including a soulful and twinkling piano, soft drums, and a bluesy guitar. If You Were There immediately offers itself as a middle ground between the previous two songs. It’s fun—there’s plenty of funky guitar, and it’s relatively uptempo—but there’s a reflective tone from the very start that the lyrics only reinforce. The lyrics aren’t anything special, but they’re sung with conviction and passion. His voice is clean and he’s obviously a technically proficient singer, but he knows how to let his voice expertly crack on the emotional notes. I will say, at this point I am a bit tired of fade-outs. You Walk Your Way is a perfect follow up, thematically and sonically. It’s a song that would be perfect for a movie—it’s a song that makes me feel like I’m in a movie. The near-call-and-response vocal with the slightly-upbeat instrumentals are total perfection. Listen to the Music is the most danceable song since the opener, and it has these shuffled layers to it that just make you want to move around—incredibly fitting for what it’s about. Perfection, just like the last one. What It Comes Down To has some awesome synth and an impressive vocal performance. Once more, I love all the different textures. The guitar solo is also awesome. Sunshine is immediately different than the other songs, with a super sinister introduction, an immediate tenseness. The vocals and lyrics are the best of the album thus far. It has an amazing political edge to it and is probably my favorite on the record. The softer songs immediately return with Summer Breeze, which has some disgustingly fantastic guitar. Just absolutely transcendent. A fabulous centerpiece. And god, the mid-song return to the repetitive synth sound that was at the beginning…so perfectly done. Maybe I’m just really tired but this song is making me teary with how good it is. Right of the bat, Highways makes sense as a closing track. It has a pretty piano intro, and once the vocals start, they’re softer than they’ve been for a while. It almost put me to sleep, but in a good way.

Wow. Funk me. Never heard this record but it’s probably my favorite so far of all the ones that are new.

Very groovy, loved the covers, and this is the kind of soul I really enjoy, hope to get more of this. Felt very alive

love it. great covers. james taylor, doobie brothers, seals & crofts. marvin is a funky guy on that bass. ballads aren’t my fav.

Who's That Lady, Summer Breeze and (not on here) Harvest for the World take me straight back to Uni; not 1973, but 1986, which was the first time I listened to the Isley Brothers, thanks to a new friend who'd grown up listening to soul and funk. Happy days, and uplifting music. I enjoyed hearing a whole album for the first time: fun grooves, great guitar.

Summer breeze = good album. 4/5

I really liked this! I thought it was very good.

Easy listenin fun

Summer breeze was the highlight and I really loved the interview- I think this would’ve been 5 stars if I wasn’t comparing it to yesterday’s!

Funky, groovy, deep sound

Could have done without the interviews, but this was great!

When the guitar solo comes in on "That Lady", it gets me expecting that I'm about to hear the greatest album of all time. But alas, after that it settles in to being merely a very good funk album. There's several covers of white-bread soft rock hits on here, and they're all solid, but they're not like vast improvements or anything. Still, a fun listen, and one that makes me think I need to look into the Isley Brothers more.

Aww yeah. That went down smoothly

I like maybe 90% of the songs but here and there there are just some weird too funky sounds stuffed into it that are just too....off to me, ruining otherwise really good song imo.

4 - great album

best edition of summer breeze? Mostly banger covers, didn't like Highways of my life

I only did a first listen and I do think I need more time to properly rate this album but overall I enjoyed it moderately and found out as well from where the sample was taken in Kendrick’s Lamar song “i”

vibey, great sound, fun. I can't stand when albums put all the remixes and different versions at the end so eventually I did tune it out.

Fuckin' slapped. Groovy, funky, fun. Didn't really care for the interviews included though.

Very good album, the production feels "organic" but also really clean if that makes sense. I particularly like the solo guitar sound that sounds like a synth (or maybe it's the other way around idk). Favourite songs : That Lady, Summer Breeze, What it comes down to, You walk your way.

I very much enjoyed the vibes and rythms

Every cover track Improves the original The funk soul brothers

its fucked up that i'd never heard of the isley brothers before. this album is great. "that lady" is a really strong opening track with great guitars and although the album loses some energy through the tracks immediately following, it picks up steam again with "listen to the music" and keeps going strong til the end. u could pick any track from the back half of this and ask me if its my favourite and i would say yes, but since thats not how this works i'm gonna say my favourite favourites are "that woman", "listen to the music" and "sunshine (go away today)". i especially like the bass on the latter. its soooo fucking wettttt... i think im gonna be investigating this album for some time. i know ive heard some of these tracks sampled before, and i gotta know what synths chris jasper was using. i won't mind listening to it a bunch more to figure it out tho :)

Great stuff.

Es la primera vez que escuché este disco y me gustó bastante.

I enjoyed listening to this one quite a bit.

Beautifully arranged, impeccable voice but not quite my genre. My favorites are that lady and sunshine.

Hell yeah. I love this album. Summer Breeze is also an iconic song. Now I do remember talking about nostalgia clouding my judgement last time, but this time I feel like its justified. 4/5

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Den växer med antal lyssningar. Det är funkigt och medryckande med en del grymma gitarrpartier. Är förövrigt väldigt musikaliskt över huvud taget. Bäst är That Lady, Listen to the music och Summer breeze

Great influencial album. Shy of a 5 simply due to being so long. Its a bit overkill in length but amazing music

A cool album, but I was not able to give it the attention it demands on my first listen. It isn't something you can just put on in the background.

Low 4.

The hits are here... But the rest of the album is almost as strong. Solid

I was really jamming and then it just keeps going, so much instrumental. I know the line from who's that lady and also the song "Listen to the music". The instrumental on Summer Breeze is so cool. It's a cover of Seal & Crofts, I like their version too, it's been in a lot of movies. I also listened to the cover by Type O Negative. It's a really dark and slow version. An interesting take. I think the Isley Brothers' version is my favorite. Reading their Wikipedia page I'm starting to understand their genius. My order of songs on the album: 1-Summer Breeze 2-Listen to the Music 3-That Lady 4-What It Comes Down To 5-The Highways of My Life 6-Sunshine (Go Away Today) 7-If You Were There 8-You Walk Your Way 9-Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight

Some straight bangers: That Lady, Listen to music, Sunshine go away, Summer breeze, The highways of life. Some slower songs, but no duds. Lot's of stuff that has been sampled in later years.

"That Lady" alone almost demands a 4 by itself. Tight band of course. Some good originals and a number of surprising (to my ears) covers. Good stuff! Not sure what the album title means though! 😂

Just a lot of fun grooves. I love when bands cover songs from different genres.

This was surprisingly great and I knew a lot more songs than I expected. These guys have been trend setters for 60 years!

Favourite Songs: That Lady, Pts.1&2 If You Were There Sunshine (Go Away Today)

That good funky soul music. Constant good vibes and I love the keys and guitar, but at the same time a couple repeat listens failed to leave any big lasting impression on me. Solid 8/10, maybe a 7 if I was in a bad mood.

There's a lot of funk and a little rock. The solos in That Lady and Summer Breeze are real good. No real complaints.

8/10 'That Lady' is the highlight but the rest of the album keeps a solid pace too. Cool mix of funk and soul.

Ernie's guitar tone is downright nasty.

Cool music history gaps filled in.

I'm usually not into the slick, citified RnB that I associate with the Midwest in the 70s as the genre diversified. I'm guessing that had something to do with the loss of Motown's monopoly. I think the genre is kind of cool, but I prefer the humid, rural, gospel-inflected Southern soul. Anyway, this album is sick. I don't know much about the Isley Brothers, their history, or their other recordings, but my impression is that they were blending old-school vocal group singing with rock and funk musical arrangements. I often view cross-genre covers as novelties, but the Isleys crush the covers on this album. They really claim the material for their own. I can't quite put my finger on why I connected to this album so much, but I can't stop listening to it. Four stars.

This was a great mix of funk and soul classics. You can hear the beginnings of a transition to disco music that would rule the late 70s. Also has some inspired covers of early 70s classics.

This was a treat. Nice selection of original tunes and some excellent covers (Summer Breeze is a highlight). Great instrumentation, great vocals, and incredible guitar work. Just a fun listen and a great record to start the day with.

More "essential" albums in this genre and era in my opinion. Still great 4.5

Great album full of R&B soul classics. Great guitar work, cover versions are strong as is the self penned tracks. Not my go to genre but can’t ignore the quality. 3.8

This was a very enjoyable listen. I could definitely have seen jamming out to this. Seems amazing especially for its time. Especially enjoyed "The Highways of My Life". 4 stars for sure

Loved it, music that makes you happy, will listen during summer

I liked their renditions of the various cover songs!

This is a delightful soul album. Great arrangements, buttery harmonies. The songs are catchy and really well put together. There's even a touch of psychedelia. Lovely album!

I think if you are going to do a cover or a remake, it needs to be different than the original - These fellas did just that. They Funkified some great songs. I was grooving at work the whole album.

Hella funky

The 3 Isley Brothers added 3 guys to the group to fill out their funk sound and give the album the '3 + 3' title. About half the songs were covers but didn't really matter to the sound. Very good funk album with some guitar shredding. They had a lot of sounds over the years but this is probably their best.

really nice 4 stars

lo puse esta mañana mientras llovía y fue plan perfecto. suave, ideal para dejarlo sonar sin pensar mucho. me gustó más de lo que esperaba

Entertaining album. There is a sound the Isley brothers makes at the beginning of every song where you know it’s an Isley brother song.

I wan the funk!

Fire. Get u some culture!

Really enjoyed this, 70's soul apart from big hits is something I am not overly familiar with so this was a nice surprise

Just solid

Yes!! Love this one. The Highways of My Life is one of my favourite songs of all time <3

It's great. I always like a good groovy and funky album. Very pleasant listen.

The Highways of My Life(честно говоря я уже все песни забыл, а эта тоже очень хорошая и красивая, у нее прикольная прогрессия аккордов, да и отличается она от остальных)

Fun classic funk. Easy to listen to.

Funky sounds lovely accompaniment to a sunny day

Great funk and soul record. The vocals and rhythms are amazing here. Favourite Track(s): Summer Breeze, The Highways of My Life, That Lady Least Favourite Track(s): If You Were There

Great songs. Not sure it worked for me as an album for some reason but still massive tunes.

So good, so funky.

Funky, fun to listen to. This summer breeze version is better than the "yacht rock" version I know. Highlights: who's that lady, summer breeze pt1

What a lovely album. It all feels like summer, a light breeze in the air, birds singing in the trees, not a care in the world. I've been aware of most these songs forever, but never really associated them all with the same band, and I never truly appreciated how awesome the guitar on these tracks can be. I thoroughly enjoyed this, it's a pleasant surprise to stumble across on a frozen Tuesday morning.

Really good soulful and fun record. Basslines are the highlight: didn’t know that Kendrick Lamar sample was track 1 either

gostei mais ou menos!

Funk Fin synging, litt jazz aktig God del bangers Treigt, med litt minimal beat og melodi i bakgrunnen. Men vokalisten carrier hele saken, synger helt sjukt bra og skaper mye ekstra "detalj"

Fav: what it comes down to 4/5

A master class in soul/R'n'B of the era

Excellent musicians, great production. However it's not my cup of tea.

Soulful and fun. Heard of a couple songs before but the album as a whole was just as strong as their most popular singles.

The Isley Brothers, 3 + 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Album #7 and a new discovery for me. This is a great record, a really really enjoyable listen. I wasn’t very familiar with the Isley Brothers beyond Footsteps in the Dark and the fact that they’ve been sampled heavily in hip hop, Kendrick Lamar, Ice Cube, that sort of thing. I do really enjoy soul music, even if I don’t tend to gravitate towards it that often. The opening track here is an utterly smoking soul song with a cracking guitar solo at the end. In fact, there are loads of guitar parts across the album that I really really like. It feels like an album of moments. I don’t necessarily love every song all the way through, but there’s at least one moment on every track where I think that’s really fucking cool. It also turns out I already knew a few of the songs, including the opener and Summer Breeze, which I think is beautifully placed towards the end of the album. It really lifts things again after the middle sags a bit. Overall, I really really enjoyed it, and I’ll definitely be checking out more from this group in the future. Always nice to get a genuinely great new discovery

Groovy sensuality

Good album. Never heard this before but it's tight, memorable, and groovy. Great find.

Love this band and their whole sound. I was just reading up about them and definitely feel their brotherly chemistry in the music. One of my favorite groups of all time in any genre and this album is an example of that

Whoooose that lady? Banger after banger.

funky jams! Takeaways: "Summer breeze", "sunshine"

3 stars 3/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Good soul record with some classics in “That Lady” and “Summer Breeze” Good vocals and instrumentals, cover of Doobie Brothers “Listen to the Music”

i really wish this project didn't keep giving me so many long albums in a row, because i really enjoyed this, but i don't think i had the attention span for it on a monday morning.

Soulful and epic. Feels like these guys have listened to James Brown and Sam Cooke but also to pink Floyd. They can write a beautiful pop song with an awesome hook but the really move it on musically. I always feel like that fuzz guitar soloing shouldn't work with the breezy soul style, but it absolutely does.

funky, but too smooth for me. probably the lightest 4 i have given yet

Think this will also be a 4. Some tracks are tip top bangers and solid 5s. Summer Breeze is always a dream. But overall I think we're landing on a 4

Very rich and soulful album, and it was overall just nice to listen to and digest all the great warm melodic feels. Vocals were great and had diversity and I just had a great time listening. 7.5/10, Favorite song: That Lady

אחלה אלבום סך הכל

One of the great Isley Brothers albums, which were coming thick and fast in the early ‘70s. 3 + 3 is a perfect fusion of rock and soul - with plentiful classic songs featuring on its track list. The big singles “That Lady” and “Summer Breeze” display the band’s abilities and range, though both are underpinned by the outstanding guitar of Ernie Isley on his first recordings with his brothers. In turns, both funky and smooth, 3 + 3 is a wonderful collection of different moods and grooves, but when it comes to sheer quality, it’s thoroughly consistent. 9/10

I thought I knew little of the Isley Brothers coming in, although as it turned out, both That Lady and Summer Breeze are of course very familiar, I presume from regular radio play. This is a fantastic slab of 70s psychedelic soul, underpinned by a undeniable funkiness that makes this so infectious. I missed most of the 70s but this and particularly the two aforementioned tracks, seem to encapsulate it perfectly and I would imagine are a perfect soundtrack of the time.

Damn, was surprised at this one. Normally am not huge on 70's soul and funk, but this one just starts off blazing out the gate with That Lady, Pts 1 & 2. I've definitely heard it before, but maybe their original vocal R&B version from the 60s? But I mostly recognize the song from Kendrick Lamar's sample of it in his song "i" (And on a tangent, the demo version of that song is superior to the To Pimp a Butterfly album version). Kendrick had a fantastic ear for that sample. The album does kinda have trouble keeping the same momentum through most of it. That Lady is easily the most driving, intense song on the record until the guitar solo in their cover of Summer Breeze. Another thing I'm slightly off with is with a decent chunk of the album being covers, but that said, they're all great covers that translate into the Isley Brothers' style perfectly. I wouldn't say the covers are better than the originals, but they're definitely a necessary cover in the grand scheme of things. Overall, fantastic record.

funky. groovy. classic

👍👍

Solid jams all-round. Just wish it went a little bit hardr at times.

I feel the same way about this album now as I did the first time I heard it a couple of months ago: pretty solid funk album, has some amazing covers on it that the band makes their own, and the musicianship on display is impressive throughout. Truly a great album.

'3 + 3' sees The Isley Brothers officially unveil their six-piece iteration for the first time, and the resulting record is a landmark of the progressive soul and funk genre. Opening with an impressive rework of their 1964 hit 'Who's That Lady', now retitled 'That Lady, Pts. 1 and 2', '3 + 3' sees The Isley Brothers completely embrace the full band, with Ernie Isley, Marvin Isley and Chris Jasper the real MVP's here though their guitar, bass and piano flourishes respectively. Their musicianship adds an immense amount to the vocals of Ronald, Rudolph and O'Kelly Isley, ensuring they're entirely comfortavle exploring new territory. There's a number of cover songs on this record but interestingly enough, they serve as the record's highlights. The cover of James Taylor's 'Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight' is an inspired choice with some incredibly passionate vocals, and 'Listen to the Music' (originally by Tom Johnson) also seems very befitting of The Isley Brothers treatment. The best cover on '3 + 3', however, is the version of Seals & Croft's 'Summer Breeze'. This song always seems to lend itself to unique and inventive cover versions (see Type O Negative's version for example) and The Isley Brothers' take on the song is no exception. The fuzz-laden guitar weaving in and out of a more soulful arrangement works wonders for this song, You know a song has earned its iconic status when it can sprout similarly iconic cover versions. '3 + 3' is a great funk/soul record stemming from an era when the genre was experiencing somewhat of a renaissance through the likes of Stevie Wonder, Al Green and Curtis Mayfield. It's interesting that the covers are the more stand-out tracks here (not to say the originals aren't great, they just don't seem to hit quite as hard as the covers), but The Isley Brothers sell the hell out of them in their own way, and it's clear the presence of the full band injected more life into their sound. Best songs: That Lady, Pts 1 & 2, Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight, Listen to the Music, Summer Breeze

This was amazing!4/5

I was a little distracted while listening to this, so I felt like I didn't give it enough attention, even with repeating a couple songs. Or maybe I just wanted to listen to them again anyway? These dudes look totally badass on the cover, and the music delivers. I loved the long instrumental coda in "That Lady," and "If You Were There" and "What It Comes Down To" were also highlights for me. Into it.

Favorite tracks: If You Were There, You Walk Your Way, Listen to the Music, Summer Breeze This was a really fun listen!

Crazy samples taken from this album! Whos that ladyayyyy

Oikein menevää ja leppoisaa!

This album is funky in all the right ways, love the bass work here. There were no songs I would consider bad in any way. Absolutely loved their rendition of Listen to the Music. Standout Songs: That Lady If You Were There Listen to the Music Summer Breeze The Highways of My Life

3.5 - Good

this was pretty good

Really cool music for the soul.

Groovy baby. Lil long tho

Cool sound. Really liked it

Listens: 3 Standout Tracks That Lady Pts. 1 & 2, Summer Breeze Pts. 1 & 2 Another sweet funk-soul album. Great vocals and excellent guitar playing. Never heard of these guys before, glad I was able to listen. Definitely something you want to hear before you die.

Fw this, no clue what the genre is but it’s a close 5

Really good.

Très bon mood, d'autres groupes similaires ont fait des albums qui sont meilleurs à mon sens mais très cool

Loved it

Funky, feel good.

Really good album! Might keep in my rotation!

fun, funky and smooth. i had fun with da bros!

this album was great. funky and soulful from start to finish. yes, my favorite tracks were the covers, but still! definitely coming back to this down the road. favorites: that lady pts 1 & 2, listen to the music, sunshine (go away today), summer breeze pts 1 & 2

Good R&B sound that certainly lends itself to a good mood. Worth a listen.

Perfect blend of soul with pop rock, loved the easy listening of the album and being able to hear the influences to now days music. Great album!

Banging 4/5

Really good music for a slow morning, I can see myself adding some of these tracks to my playlists

Where has those covers of summer breeze and listen to the music been all my life?

Liked this more than I thought I would! Good covers good songs - between a 3 and 4 rounded up - also they look very cool on the cover love their outfits

This is an incredible album for the samples alone. It took forever to get everything cleared and reached streaming, but when it did I listened to it for a week straight.

Loved it

It was pretty good. I haven’t super listened to the this genre, but it was fun to listen to, and I’ll definitely be listening to it more often. My favorite tracks would probably be summer breeze, that woman, don’t let me be lonely tonight, and listen to the music. I would describe this as kind of chill and nostalgic.

This genre isn’t something I often listen to, but the songs in this album were really nice. I’m pretty surprised at this rating, but I have to give this the rating of a good album; a 4.

Budget Stevie Wonder is still good. I liked some of the covers. Favorite Track: Summer Breeze

first 10 seconds already like it way more. hell yeah this one is a great listening album/house cleaning. Need this on vinyl!

Awesome

I don’t know how many funk albums are on this list, but I do know that that number isn’t big enough. I knew this would be great and I wasn’t wrong, this is a solid 4/5 album.

Her voice is kinda annoying considering how popular she is, but this was a good album full of heart.

such a good album

Kendrick sample first track (“i”) woah! Maybe painfully obvious to others but love when I get to spot samples in the wild. Banger of an album. Very listenable in one sitting for me because each song is different enough but the same threads go thru. Covers are good. Groovy

I enjoyed that one. Chilled and funky

Pure vibes

Today years old when i found out the opening of kendrick lamar’s i is that lady by the isley brothers

Has a really good vibe, kinda puts you in a better mood!!

Great sound, pleasant from front to back.

That’s what I’m talking about!

-so many dope songs on this. the band sounds incredible. the singing is off the wall. -this record is quite psychedelic; it's unbelievable this is the same group that did "Twist and Shout." -every cover song is an improvement on the original.

Very very enjoyable.

Very funky, did not expect an interview to start at the end, and that Hendrix was a guitarrist there

smooth like buttah

3+3 = 4 Love the grove.

I've known about The Isley Brothers, but that knowledge was limited. This album was a trip to listen to, not just because there are a series of songs on here that are good, but also because there were a bunch that others had made famous which I had no idea they had written. Things like Summer Breeze and Listen to the Music, both of which were cool in their original form, even if we are all used to the Seals & Crofts / Doobie Brothers versions. I really enjoyed You Walk Your Way, which was a really good. Others were excellent on here as well. Lots of great songwriting, lots of good performances, well worth the listen.

Enjoyed this a lot, not the best to run to especially when i realised the songs were not actually 8 minutes each but the return of this lady for the last 500 metres was strong.

I really enjoyed this! Had definitely heard That Lady before not knowing who it was by and glad to have filled that knowledge gap and listened further! Particularly liked the sequence of Sunshine and Summer Breeze on this sweet summer day

There’s a reason the Isley Brothers have been so successfully and consistently sampled in musical history and it’s because their consistent groove and soulful songs are timelessly good. Nothing here feels aged or out of place. It’s just a really really nice, well produced album.

Smooooth .....

4/5 Fave songs: That Lady Listen to the Music Summer Breeze pt 1&2

Good, 8.1 out of 10

This was class, it’s more than R&B and funk they are such a good band together, amazing harmonies and Ernie Isley is a outrageous guitar player.

Funk meets rock in this series of blistering performances. A bit light on compelling original material, but the covers are done so well it doesn’t even matter.

Solid funk/soul album

Fun psychedelic funk album which has great covers and well done original songs. 4/5

What a great surprise today. I heard of and have known some of their songs, but mostly I've been aware of them as being covered by others. I just didn't realize some of what I'd been listening to most of my life have been songs originally done by the Isley Brothers. For starters I loved the opening numbers, as we got some funk in That Lady and we got some awesome R&B in Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight (my favorite song on the album). After a brief lull, we got these amazing original versions of Listen to the Music, Sunshine, and Summer Breeze! I loved these versions, especially of Summer Breeze which is so much cooler than the way more famous Seals and Crofts cover. What a great "day after Christmas" listen. Thank you generator.

Funky, soulful, and just damn good! Really enjoyable and I can see myself playing this one over and over again.

Not what I typically go for, but I couldn't help tapping my toe at points. Good stuff. 3.8

This is EXCELLENT. I had no idea I'd like the Isley Brothers as much as I do. I will return for sure. 8/10

Tuntematon artisti entuudestaan mutta varsin hyvä levy silti. Hyväntuulista soulia ja funkkia.

Oh! So smooth!! So fun!!

I love old soul and r 'n b stuff, however I found this album to be much affected by psychedelic funk and prog rock movements of the time, which isn't all for the best. I find I enjoy the groove and feel of a traditional soul, much more that I do the technical delivery of prog rock, so some of the most poppin' tunes didn't really hit me that good. I had previously thought of Isley Brother as a soul group, but realised they leaned more to rock 'n roll and funk than soul, and so with this album playing it all makes more sense. Overall I'm not at all uncertain why this one sits in this list.

like it is nice while kooking

Groovy

An excellent album, enjoyed listening to this whilst wrapping up Christmas 🎄 presents, particular favourite of mine “ The Highways of my Life” Summer Breeze also excellent 👌

This was great. A very chill way to start a Monday, but I feel like this would work any time of day.

4/5. This is some good funk. The songs each felt unique, and the mastery over guitar and bass is insane. I felt like I was ascending with some of these songs. I got nothing else to say, this album was great.

Was gonna give it a 3 but I enjoy the interviews when it comes to talking about how the band started and how they create music. So it's a 4 for me

85/100

8/10. Great album. Inspiration from the R&B soul groups that came before it and paves the way for all that comes after. Bridges the genres of R&B, disco and funk to produce an album filled with classics. Will definitely listen again.

One of the better soul entries on this list. The funky uptempo numbers are the bomb.

Fun album

𝟥 + 𝟥 shows the Isley Brothers expanding their sound with confidence, blending silky soul, rich harmonies and fluid guitar work into something both polished and warm. The album balances sleek funk grooves with slow-burning ballads, and the addition of younger family members gives the music a fresh dynamic edge. It’s stylish, smooth and surprisingly varied, offering enough personality and craftsmanship to stand above standard ’70s soul records.

If someone told me they learned to play the guitar because of this album I would understand

There have been a lot of debut albums so far on this list but this is the first 11th album I've listened to. This is good jawn. The music reflects the confidence of a group that is approaching 20 years. The tracks are a mix of originals and covers. The vibe is fun. The jams are consistent. Throw this record on at your next party.

Smooth, pretty solid first album to start off with it…

Decent songs, nice and mellow music that I haven’t listened much to before.

Really really like this. slow but also upbeat. easy to listen to and enjoy.

1. kendrik sample aloo, odlicna pesma, ozbiljan instrumental na kraju, zabavna pesma 2. najs, malo ozbiljnija pesma 3. dobar vajb 4. lepa pesma, sve je slican vajb do sad (ljubavne soul pesmice) 5. fuuuunk 6. slatka pesmica 7. ne znam kako da objasnim nekako je drugacija od ostalih (tvrdja?), malo ima cowboy vajb, nekako je malo besna 8. malo gitaricaaaa elektricna, soul rock prica 9. klavir, bas kul instrumental highlighti: That Lady (Pt.1 & Pt.2), Listen to the Music, Sunshine (Go Away Today), Summer Breeze, The Highways of My Life generalno: funky vibe, soul, topla energija, tera te da se kreces, svaka pesma deluje kao da moze da bude brutalan sample

15/1089 Always wondered where the song from Anchorman originated and now I know after this album opener. I loved this album, so groovy, funky and tight. True R&B and soul. The originals are classic 70s and the covers are so unique that I didn't catch they were covers until the chorus hit. This is what you put on for the ladies right before the lights dim and needle drops on a Barry White album. Hits....summer breeze, lady, listen to the music

impeccable grooves, recognised the first track as it was sampled by Kendrick Lamar, really enjoyed this

Delicioussssss

I liked their versions of some of the songs I already know. Are they Isley Brothers originals that were covered by others, or other songs covered by the Isleys?

This album fucking ruled.

Soul, funky and all around a good time listening to it, will definitely keep it in rotation and cherish this one.

Arguably high 3s, but mostly liked the songs. Album itself is too long though (with slightly different versions of the same songs and some interview clips). Would try other songs by them

Very smooth, totally pulls off the spoken/sung talk downs. The hits are great but I was surprised to be jamming even more to some of the non-singles, especially What It Comes Down To.

Enjoyed. Good vibes. Jasmine enjoyed hearing her name in the one song

7/10 pretty good!

A little underwhelming. It makes me want to check out their other work, because the funky stuff sounds more up my alley than the more R&B stuff

So smooth

This one hits that sweet spot where the musicianship is almost annoyingly good. Ernie Isley’s guitar work is the highlight — effortless right-hand firepower, liquid phrasing, and tone that feels like a force of nature. “That Lady” alone earns the record a reserved parking spot in the funk-soul hall of fame. The band as a whole sounds dialed-in, polished, and confident enough to bend genres without breaking a sweat. But here’s the catch: there are a lot of covers. Really good covers — inventive, soulful, classy — but still covers. That keeps the album from becoming one of those capital-C Classics that feels completely singular. Instead, it lands in a different but still valuable category: a consistently enjoyable, beautifully executed showcase of a band at peak expressive power. I’d absolutely spin this again for the grooves, the musicianship, and that unreal guitar work. It doesn’t rewrite the universe, but it does make it sound a whole lot better for 40 minutes.

Great early 70's R&B/funk/soul record. Surprised by the number and quality of the cover songs on here. Most I preferred to the original. Only negative, the last 2 songs, a cover of "Summer Breeze" (a song I've never liked), and "The Highways of My Life" were slow, and kind of disrupted the vibe the rest of the album had built. Loved it to that point though.

I of course recognize the name of the group, but I know almost nothing about them and nothing about this album. Similarly to Pearl Jam’s Ten, the numbers in the title seem to have no obvious relation to the album’s concept upon glancing at the track list, but perhaps I will prove to be mistaken. — I may never know what the title means, but 3+3 is some good shit and a refreshing listen after the aborted Pearl Jam attempt yesterday. Huzzah. This is the kind of music that I’m not really experienced with enough to pick out things that are particularly special about it. It slips in between the decades that I’m mostly experienced with. (That being the 1960s and when I have been alive.) However, I can definitely say that it does not stop maintaining a consistent mood throughout, and it’s the exact mood you can tell the brothers want you in. Excellent stuff.

No. 29 Really good, the guitar work in some of the songs absolutely rip.

Incredibly seventies. Just look at that cover art. I was really digging it until the covers started coming. Lots of good stuff though.

Had a lot of covers. Thought the vocals were incredible and the guitar was inpressive

The guitars do sound like lasers. Very cool.

Great soul album banging tunes with great guitars A little repetitive, but could be down to Spotify adding other versions at the end

Short, sweet & sultry

Fun one! Cool cover of Listen to the music, overall pretty funky and they all play really well!

Enjoyable music, but nothing too crazy. I liked listening to it, but it's unlikely I'd listen to it again. The crazy part is that Summer Breeze is the basis for a song I love from Vanilla. I had no idea this was taken from here. It's probably my favourite song of the album. Bumping it up to 4 just because Summer Breeze is a banger

Great album - every song like a ray of sunshine! The extended album version of Summer Breeze is much better than the single also.
