Reviews (page 8 of 13)

It was fine, about what I expected for an album released in this era

Never listened to them before and it was solid. Not sure if I will listen to it again, but it was enjoyable enough. 7/10 Top song Bang a gong

I was expecting more from this album. I knew Get it On but hadn’t heard much else. And the reviews had me looking forward to it. It was fine, but it didn’t live up to the hype.

A pretty good collection of cutting edge Rock & Roll considering this was recorded in the early 70’s. Bang A Gong was a nice surprise (I never knew who sang that before!) in the middle of this listen. The rest of the album do not disappoint and those tracks all seemed to contain catchy beats or memorable lyrics.

What Lou Reed would have sounded like without insane amounts of cocaine and LSD. I liked the album, dig the vibe. It's not great, but it's a cool chill listen.

Pretty good easy Listening music does Remind Me A little of the beattles

Half of the songs sounded the same. Good ol 70s sound but to be honest it’s background music for me. There’s about 3 ish songs I would play back but most of them annoyed me a little.

Great guitar licks, rocking beats, a fun listen.

have to be in a special mood to appreciate and fully enjoy it Probably more familiar to covers of these songs than the originals Its not something I would listen to myself.

Wtf, Nick Cave covered Cosmic Dancer? Wondered why it was familiar. Actually like this a decent amount. I get Bowie/Lou Reed vibes attached to a music setting more akin to the pop rock at the time. Not bad, and relatively diverse throughout the album. I'm feeling a rather strong 3.

I'm completely serious when I recommend listening to this at least twice. First listen: 2.8 Second listen 3.7 Maybe next listen we'll break 4 3.7

Liked- Cosmic dancer, Jeepster, Planet queen, Hot love- A side and Woodland rock- B side Did not really like the other songs

The album sounds great but I I find the vocal style kinda annoying, which takes me out when in the groove of it. But when in the groove it hits very well.

Bang a Gong and the cover art are iconic, the rest goes between fine and decent.

Meh, wasn't in a good mood when listening

really fun album, get it on was definitely the strongest of the album, however im surprised that some of the strongest tracks are the ones with less streams. Woodland Rock and Rip Off were great. overall a 6.5/10, as some of the beginning songs were a bit stale, but with good beats.

Solid album. Not crazy good not bad at all. Right is the middle

Always mix up Mott the hopple and T. rex. Then there is the line in all the young dudes - I need tv when isn’t Rex???? I think it’s a David Bowie written song sung by Mott and covered by Bruce Dickinson. Anyway good rock record. Is he credited with starting the glam rock thing? Good listen.

background music de manual, pero no muy relevante

Interesting album, much stronger than the other I listened to. I knew the main hit Bang a Gong, but glad to see the style persisted throughout the record. Small complaint: the version I listened to via Spotify had weird normalization with volumes jumping dramatically between songs. I assume that's a Spotify issue,, not the original pressing.

Surprised I hadn't heard this one through before. It was a good listen but not one I am likely to return to though I may add a few tracks to playlists.

Of course I heard this record countless times when it first came out, but never bought a copy and therefore haven't heard much more than just "Get it On" and "Jeepster" in the interim. Oh, except for "Cosmic Dancer," which someone played on the radio the other day. This album is a solid example of the glam period. There are great people in the band here (Flo and Eddie! Rick Wakeman! Ian McDonald!), so that makes it a bit more interesting. But I'm reminded of why I never bought a copy - I don't really like it very much. I think a lot of that is about the vocals; I guess if you like the way Bolan sings then that's great, but if not then that's a whole lot of what you're hearing. Most interesting track: Planet Queen 3 stars

T-Rex can do better

A couple of fun tracks that are familiar to me, but nothing else inspiring

I'm whelmed. I feel like they would've been awesome to see live, but it's like it all runs at about 70% capacity on record.

Erstaunlich wie viele Songs man mit einem Riff machen kann...

Solid album, one big hit, consistent sound.

It’s a bop, a vibe, a glam rock gem. Respectable 3

Some good hits on here

Favorite Tracks: - Cosmic Dancer - Jeepster - Get It On

Kind boring but felt like the supernatural giys

For a 70s album not too bad a bit rock

What they now call 'dad rock', i.e. a middle-of-the-road blues rock. With that trebly almost buzzing lead guitar. Not too offensive in track 1. It's all fine and decent enough. Not offensive, mildly catchy. Better than I had braced myself for. Now I hated Boston, why is this okay to me? Because it's more laid back, not so serious? (Except for Raw Ramp which is a terrible song) The more I listen the more I like it.. I am a dad though! Best track - Mambo Sun, Rip Off 3.5 stars

Solid.

Los primeros temas me re gustaron, despues la perdi un poco, y con los ultimos dos para arriba creo. me guarde unos cuantos temas

Marc Bolan’s voice gives me the heebie jeebies. I thought he put it on for T.Rex’s biggest song Get it On (and the only one I really knew before getting this album) but damn he actually sings like that all the time?? Did he lose his voice smoke too much or have an unhealthy relationship with helium?? Vocals aside I did enjoy this album. I had to come back to it a few times as I didn’t find it mind shattering, but I’d add songs like Mambo Sun, Cosmic Dancer (lots of dark side of the moon/pink floyd, space oddity/David Bowie vibes here), Jeepster (60s swing jive rock), Hot Love (reminiscent of taunting schoolboys). But maybe the others will grow on me.

A good album. Oasis clearly ripped a few of these riffs off lol. For its time, impressive but wish it gave me just a bit more in terms of variation and risk

Mediating whether I should give this a 3 or a 4 tbh, some great moments

I think I’m a Jeepster for this album. Doesn’t take itself too seriously, toe tapping fun all the way through. 3.8

está guapo

Nice but too repetitive

I liked their creative style. Fun album.

Buzzy rock, recognized Bang A Gong

A good album. Very groovy 70’s feel. I believe there is a fair amount of Bowie influence in this.

Me gustó mucho el álbum. Muy buenos temas. Y los que no guarde también están buenos, simplemente no me llaman tanto la atención. Mi canción favorita fue Hot Love

All the elements are there, poised, waiting to be tied together - and then along comes the god awful vocalist who is about as committed to the lyrics he’s saying as a gay man is to his lavender wedding vows. Would it kill you to show some emotion in your voice

I liked get it.The album was similar to a lot of previous rock songs.

This was much lower energy than I expected. In the context of the rest of the album even "Get It On" was less energetic than I remembered.

Agree with other reviews that the songs never quite reach the crescendo you hope for. It's okay. Bit bored by the end, lots of very similar sounds.

Feels quite glam rock due to Marks distinctive voice which isn’t exactly my thing but it’s a fun album with a couple of standout tracks. Sounds quite fresh in some ways.

Ok but a bit samey and dated.

Making glam rock popular

Um...It was ok I guess.

Beautiful.

Very interesting what songs enter the cultural zeitgeist. I think Bang a Gong has some intangible qualities that make it great, but maybe I like it just because I’ve heard it a lot. Other than that, this album felt just ok and not something I need to frequently revisit

It was good!

pretty groovy rocknroll album. No really standout songs for me though

70s glam rock is gut

Easy listening

3/5 Best Song: Bang a Gong (Get it On) Worst Song: Cosmic Dancer Weirdest Song: Rip Off Electric Warrior is decent easy listening with an obvious classic in Bang a Gong. Much of the album isn't very memorable but there are some nice guitar rhythms and tones to coast through. Sounds like an alternate reality where Elliott Smith sang psychedelic blues in the 70s.

Not that special of an album. It's very Bowieesque.

Довольно обычный альбом легкого такого рока. Есть пара хитов, но в целом звучание довольно гомогенное и уныленькое. Лично для меня он представляет мало интереса, хотя, бюезусловно имеет свой шарм и вайб.

A slightly rock album, chill enough, reminds me of the 70's album. Sometimes a bit country vibes?

An iconic album, no doubt, but one that can err a touch on the structurally repetitive side, and it occasionally trudges along at a bit too much of a laborious pace for me. The production is excellent - achieving a kind of high definition swampy sound that lends the album a gritty, back-alley feel. Musically, it's at its strongest when the simple, yet effective boogie stylings and riffage rule the roost, most pronounced on tracks such as "Get It On", which remains a banger, and the closer "Rip Off". "Cosmic Dancer" offers an early break of vulnerability, making less in the lyrical department count. However, the album does feel a bit stagnant and sleepy as it reaches its mid-section and conclusion, with other upticks in energy largely indebted to a similar formula. Great for a certain mood and there's undoubtedly a good handful of tracks here which would do a fine job of soundtracking a vintage party. I'll revisit for those.

Solid work. 3.5 stars

The cover of this album made me think I was in for a screeching metal album, and what I got was some perfectly poppy rock tunes with some light, goofy lyrics, and I liked it. I wouldn't be mad if I heard any of these tracks on a mixtape. Good, but kinda forgettable.

Very clear and simple song structure with some hits.

Fun album, Bang a Gong really stands out in context of the whole album. 3.5.

the T Rex PB&J: A solid PB foundation of bluesy rock smothered with the sugary glitz of glam rock jelly (3.5)

Solid 70s rock and roll with a blues influence. Nothing remarkable to me though. It’s fine.

Decent enough background music

Interesante pero no me sorprende mucho

Fajne. Nic więcej. 7/10 Ulubiona piosenka: Rip Off

Get it on

I dunno, this just didn’t strike me as anything to write home about. It’s not bad, but the vocals are repetitive and annoying and that kind of ruins it for me

The best of Bolan's discography. It is a solid Glam Rock album, and a great listen overall. 8/10 [KEEP]

I know Listened to it but I wasn't sure for a moment, it appears to not have been extremely memorable. Albeit, I did enjoy it when I really do my best to remember

Damn I like this a lot more than I’d thought. Not a glam rock head and don’t quite like the theatrical stuff but the auditory space of this record is so nice and cozy that it brings me in. I absolutely love the mix. All of King Krule’s later albums are super influenced by T-Rex I figure. ‘Rip off’ is what made me think of this. All the horns and the drumbreaks.

what is a Jeepster, and why would it also be a vampire and say ‘i’m gonna SUCK YA’? damn this record has multiple hits/songs that have been all over movie soundtracks. never heard of them but they are obviously influential. kinda Black Keys but instead I like it the super dry drums and quacky guitars Bang A Gong! Planet Queen has an interesting space Girl is bad side B is dragging Overall I actually enjoyed this quite a bit. It has a very distinctly 70’s sonic aesthetic. Some snoozers on side B but side A was strong enough that I’m on board.

Ok i might like to hear it again

Well written, well performed and well recieved by me.

Seventies blues rock, which doesn't particularly stand out from its stronger counterparts. It's fine, and I'd heard a couple of songs before; but it isn't "heavy" enough, nor "bluesy" enough.

Bob Dylan stinks

--Mambo Sun...fun whisper groove --Cosmic Dancer...oddly sentimental but the production is nice --Jeepster…dafuq is a “jeepster”? --Monolith…guitar is interesting. not much else --Lean Woman Blues...straightforward blues rocker --Get It On...classic. always loved the dirty and deep (baritone?) sax part in the background --Planet Queen...I appreciate when a band can use an acoustic guitar and keep things funky. sweet bass groove --Girl...even a muted trumpet can't save this one --The Motivator...a lesser "Get It On" but the bass puts it over the top --Life's a Gas...bit of a lazy river tune. it's nice --Rip Off...finally gets interesting 90 seconds in. then it gets annoying again. the just sort of ends

used to be an album I really enjoyed, but it didn't quite hit as hard this time. The production is thin, the songs feel repetetive, like it lost it's bite. If I'm being objective this record is just ok. 2.5 but rounded to 3 for nostalgia

I enjoyed this. Nice to hear something that's very rooted in rock n roll but doing something fresh with it, after all the very conventional stuff I've heard recently. Of the directions rock was taking oin the early seventies, I definitely prefer glam to prog. It's still not really my thing though. I'm glad punk came along not long after.

It was just fine, but did not make a huge impressionable on me. I don't think I recall a single song.

I liked this album, it was surprisingly fun and has fairly good lyricism. Although it was fairly repetitive at times. Favourite - Jeepster

Not so bad, especially from 1971.

Ya it's some pretty decent classic rock, but it's nothing to write home about I'd say.

I honestly cannot remember what this sounded like or what I thought. I promise I listened to the entire thing, too!

very pleasant! i'm not sure it has a lot for me to grab onto to love, but it's very pleasant classic rock that is less grating to me than some other works in the genre. Fav tracks: Mambo Sun; Rip Off

7/10 tiene un estilo bastante moderno para la época en la que salió, suena muy fresco

7.5 / 10

I'm a little picky when it comes to what I want out of a 70s glam rock band; usually I just gravitate towards glam-influenced power pop that popped up later in the decade. Regardless, this is still a neat little time capsule to show off one of the genre's pioneering acts as they transitioned from folksy psychedelia to flashy hard rock. Get It On is a classic rock staple for a reason, its far and away the best song here. 7/10.

nothing crazy i think

-not a fan -reminds me of the who -i craved more throughout the entire album

Not bad but nothing really stuck out. Felt a bit raw and like a different genre, which makes sense given the band switched from folk to rock for this album

I thought there was a lot of interesting sounds throughout this album, but ultimately I didn't really feel like it was anything special - nothing in particular stood out to me by the time I reached the end.

Slick and funky but all a bit samey not much range in terms of vocals or instrumentals until rip off which is great more like that wouldve been really nice but the middle of the album felt like a slog at points... all feels a bit one note. Highlights are get it on (obvs), monolith (guitar work and interesting lyrics), planet queen (catchy and just a jolly little track) and rip off (much needed variety high energy and aggressive delivery) Generally a decent/good listen but personally nothing to write home about as an ensemble if I want a glam rock album id always put bowie on instead but in terms of individual tracks theres deff some highlights.

Tracks I liked: mambo sun, cosmic dancer, monolith. Would I revisit: nope, other than these specific tracks.

I've heard most of the songs on this album, although the only one I thought I knew before listening was Bang A Gong. Cosmic Dancer and Planet Queen were the highlights.

I don't Glam rock - too cutesy, the guitar tone grates on me, and so many of the songs - even the hits - have the same structure and sound. I like 20th Century Boy, but it's not on this album. Get It On is on this album, and I think that's the only one I've heard before. The opening track starts out with a cool, funky vibe but meanders along without turning into anything else - had that song picked up pace halfway through or done anything different, it may have been a four star song. It doesn't, so it's a three. Cosmic Dancer sounds familiar - I've heard it in a movie or show or advert, or a cover. It's good, but too long. Jeepster is exactly what I mean when I say I don't like Glam Rock, while the fourth song is a lesser version of the second song. And on it goes. It's fine, it wasn't as terrible as I was worried it would be. A T-Rex album probably should keep a place on this list, given their influence and success in the UK.

buenas guitarras, rock and rollero.

Some classic rock

It's fun. A lot of repetitive sounding songs.

Primer álbum 🎀 Nunca había escuchado T. Rex me gustó

Didn’t pay enough attention to this album and should give it another listen today. But I also want a new album!

Un ritmo nuevo para mi! Agradable, movido, alegre. un 5/10 le doy a este álbum.

it was aight, didn't really listen to it in depth but not bad.

Not bad. I like the couple songs but overall just okay I wouldn't listen to this much. Monolith was good. The dancer song was cool but felt like it needed more, it was repetitive.

Better than I expected. I like the horns

Feels like something from the 60s/70s, but a couple of bangers on this album

It's OK glam rock, sometimes catchy and some times spacey ballads. I wasn't impressed but it wasn't boring either. Favorite Songs: Cosmic Dancer ; Get It On

Cool stuff

Less memorable early Bowie???

Kick started many a glam rock album. Some memorable tracks amongst some more disposable ones but this was always an album which didn't take itself too seriously, making the music seem more fun.

Decent but middling, never realized that Robert Palmer / Power Station’s “Bang a Gong” was a cover song

was gonna round down to 2, Rip Off is fun and I like the choice to end on it music: hated. (⌐■_■)

There are some obvious Fuzz Classics on this record, but there's also a lot of dead air. The singles from this record are Rock Radio Mainstays, great songs to drive a shitty car around to, but the album cuts are tedious, clear victims of the need to release a full LP as a commodity rather than strong ideas for songs. People were buying hell of records back then. not no more. I had to listen to this record on Youtube because Spotify keeps losing the rights to classic records. Can't even fucking listen to Aja.

Good not great. Definitely sounds ahead of its time though, could be from the 90s or 00s easily. Few good tracks, few weaker ones. Oasis nicked and improved Get It On

Kein Pop, aber irgendwie auch kein richtiger Rock. War dadurch nicht schlecht, trotzdem für mich ein wenig irrelevant und ich werde es wohl nie wieder hören. Zumindest nicht aktiv anmachen...

2.8. Det var en anden tid

Get it on er klasse, men ellers er det godt nok lidt kedeligt.

I respect T.Rex but some songs are a bit repeptitive. It's a classic glam rock record so there's that. I like the effects on the vocals, they sound original and recognisable. I've listened to "Get it on" a thousand times, so I guess I expected more diversity and energy from the whole album.

For an album that gets such positive reviews, I can’t help but find it a bit middling. The pace & tone of the record feels a bit lacking to me, and whilst there are a couple of high moments with ‘Get It On’ and ‘Cosmic Dancer’, the rest of it doesn’t have anything particularly interesting or stand-out to me. It feels harsh but it’s getting a 6/10 at a push.

favorite song: lean woman blues vibe: juuuuust the edge of grungy britpop rating: 61/100

I enjoyed this album more than I thought I would

ironically the song that T.Rex is most famous for is the song I like least on this album. The first half of the album was infinitely better than the second half. The first half had some grooves and blues and variations, while the second half was more classic and glam rock with little variation. Lean Woman Blues was possibly the standout, or Monolith or Cosmic Dancer. Those were my 3 notable songs anyway. An entire album of the first half might have got a 4, but this got a 3

3/5. It was not bad, but also not my taste Remus and Sirius from atyd liked it)

top 3 - Rip Off, Cosmic Dancer, Jeepster. Fine, I think. Deserves to be on this list for sure though.

“Bang a Gong (Get It On)” is essential, of course. I respect how the album helped usher us all into glam. But I don’t really connect with most of the songs.

So this is the album that kicked off glam rock, huh? Don't know much about glam rock, tbh. It's fine. Points for historical value - influenced such varied acts as Queen to X-Japan so I get why it's here. The lyrics aren't anything to write home about. Just standard British pop-rock circa 1960-1970 ("ooo girl, I love you girl, ooo ooo"... zzz). Enjoyable instrumental work throughout (surprise appearance from Ian McDonald of K.C.). I can see a much younger me digging it. Standout tracks: Monolith, Girl, Rip Off

Strong 3! Just missed. Nothing that makes me want to come back to this album, but it was pleasant - Groovy start, not being screamed at - Very pleasant! Just needs some emotional kick to be strong - Uh oh, quality dropping quickly - Probably needs a lyric listen, but that's only worth it if I like the sound enough to bother... - Getting repetitive. Like it's a good sound but blending together

Sounds like the music in the credits of an American movie

Dans l'ensemble bon 3.5+/5

Listen to these guys - way funkier than I thought they were. Nice little funk/groove rock sound. Influence 3. Hits 3. Intangibles 3. Quality 3. Good deal across the board 3.

Glam Rock innovator and influencer. Pitchfork: 9.5 Rolling Stone: Top 500 Albums #188 Best Songs Bang a Gong (Get It On)

Fun, chill in an upbeat way. Similar vibe to the Beatles but the Beatles songs I don’t love. If I had it as a CD I would play it occasionally, but will not gravitate towards it on the regular on my phone. Is not making it into my library. 6/10

Ziggy befare Ziggy, but simpler and less powerful

An album I expected to enjoy a little more but was still okay. Some songs really blended together with the very similar sound and some interesting bluesy tracks. Sad that Bolan's career and life were cut short. Had a lot more potential as shown in this album.

Tyrannosaurus Rawr! Haha

Good stuff

Dober album

Pretty good. Bang a gong and jeepster were my faves

Better than I expected from the name but not my cup of tea.

Mambo sun kiddo

Had me dancing since I was 8 but the combination of blues singer and rock instrumental / energy didn’t mesh well.

Apparently this album was instrumental in the evolution of glam rock, so points for that. My last 14 albums have all been male artists and I need some estrogen up in here. “Cosmic Dancer” is a genuinely great song but I wasn’t in the right space for this album today.

Decent, but the only hit from the album is the only thing which is memorable to me.

Not for me

Just ok

70s Easy listening Rock Bang a Gong

No lo conocía pero me gustó.

Helt ålreit dette, Get It On er en banger! Ut over det så traff det ikke meg helt. 🦖🦖🦖

Dette var ganske kult og chill å høre på. Ikke slitsomt. Hører igjen.

Alternates between sounding like the Beatles and David Bowie to me. Some of the songs are really fun and catchy (esp. Mambo Sun), but others didn't feel as novel/attention-grabbing. Between a 3 and 4 for me.

This was a really fun listen! I was a little unsure of it at first, but it grew on me as I kept listening.

Album was not bad, couple of songs are in my playlist now, it gives me George Harisson’s vibe

не дослушала, все понятно. может был бы другой день я бы дослушала до конца, но именно вчера мне совсем не хотелось слушать то, что ну совсем не откликается. включила вместо этого pj Harvey

Enjoyable electric glam boogie but little variety it’s a good trick but it’s the only trick.

i would have rated this 3.9 stars if i could

Finns en del guldkorn, skönt groove,

The 2 songs I already knew, "Bang a Gong" and "Jeepster" are GREAT, and I'd picked up references, over the years, to this album being great, too, and very influential on "glam" rock (and beyond), so I was prepared to be . . . blown away (?) . . . but, unfortunately, I wasn't. None of the other 9 songs really grabbed me, at least on first listen (but I wasn't inspired to listen again). I'd probably do 3.5 (7 out of 10), but I think I'll have to go with 3, based on the relative weakness (at least on first listen) to the other 9 songs. But those 2 songs are still GREAT, and I'm always glad to hear them on the radio :)

Some great glam rock

Treer. Top 3: Get It On, Mambo Sun, Monolith

This is fairly entertaining, but not groundbreaking. I had not heard of this band, though I had definitely heard "Bang a Gong (Get It On)". I don't have much more to say about this one. 3/5

I though I already reviewed this one. It has a couple of good songs (Motivator, Get it on), but I would have probably appreciated it more in the 70s than right now. 7/10

Nothing besides the gong caught my attention, but nothing too cringe either

Fun album that would probably grow on me. This is almost a 4 for me but it was a little too generic. Also why won’t they tell us what the T stands for

Динозавр

Surprisingly fresh sounding. Interesting how avoiding overly time-specific instrument instruments (Hammond organs, saxophones, etc.) can keep rock ‘n’ roll more timeless.

Some instrumental melodies were good but they were mostly just hootin and hollerin and I’m not a middle school boy so…

Du glam rock plutôt sans saveur pour moi...

If you listen carefully, you can actually hear the bell bottoms. It’s a good album. Not outstanding, but good.

Good album maybe a bit too soft for me but the music is really good. One banger song but not amazing that should be in a list like this.

Okay, not great, not awful.

T. Rex is still an enigma to me. They rock but they seem so mysterious?

Some great stuff on here but very repetitive in parts

Favoritlåtar: Jeepster, Get It On och Woodlandrock - B Side. Låtar jag inte gillade: Lean Woman Blues

For some reason I expected a lot more from this album, I dont have much to say, I'll have to listen to it more

10/10 album to smoke dirt weed with your crush to in your dad’s basement. I’ll listen again.

Cosmic dancer is great, the rest not so much.

prikolno. hz

fine but nothing special to me? 3 stars; get it on bang a gong is fun

Great album, I knew I’d like it. Love Cosmic Dancer as much as I ever did, a couple of duds but not enough to really drag the score down. I love this genre.

Certainly some bangers, but not my cup of tea

I found this much celebrated record to be full of fine rock 'n roll, but nothing that really got me grooving until the last track.

An easy listen to a very normal rock album

Overall Rating - 3.41/5 (6.82/10). Well done album.

Man that’s some slinky guitar and vocals. Some of this is decent, some of it delightful.

I enjoyed the listen but didn't find it very memorable.

kafkaesque

With the name T. Rex and the genre Glam rock, I didn't expect much. But it was a fun listnen with Get It On and Hot Love as my favorites.

I liked the songs but they just felt a bit too steady? Like go crazy guys, you’re allowed to rock out!! Also wanna shoutout the brass in Girl because I loved that.

Rip Off and Planet Queen were my favorites here.

Sympa mais pas mémorable

Good, but not great. I went in expecting a lot more straight-up rock from a band called T. Rex and an album titled Electric Warrior. Instead, it leans more Bowie-adjacent than raw rock. That said, there’s a nice funky groove running through most of it, and I enjoyed a handful of tracks—“Get It On,” “Mambo Sun,” and “Jeepster” being the standouts for me.

My rating 3.0. Besides Bang a Gong and Jeepster what do you really have???? Mediocre pop.

Best album cover ever. Lifes a gas a highlight. Good but a bit samey

Pretty good. Find I'm enjoying the spacier songs but overall, I like it. Favorites: Monolith, Bang a Gong, Planet Queen Would I listen to it again: Yes

fine low bop ratio. Not much variety

Tältä levyltä oli ainoa tuttu biisi ”Get It On” ja se olikin levyn parasta antia. Aika samasta puusta oli biisit veistetty ja aika samankaltaisia hivenen tylsähköjä biisejä.

A fun album, but doesn’t really bring anything spectacular to the table. I did like how it’s sort of a blend of 60s groovy rock and 70s power rock. Nothing to write home about, but no real complaints. A fine, above average listen. 3/5

Listened to 2003 remastered edition. Electric glam rock giving off Bowie vibes. 1 song added to playlist.

Pretty good. I recognized some songs. Not my fave ever, but I see the appeal.

Not a bad album, this is glam rock and it feels like a good representation of its time.

This album feels like it could have come out in the late 2010's. Has a very classic indie pop-rock feel that was an unknown formula I hadn't known so many bands I like have been utilizing.

Eh, it was fine, but honestly not as good as I had hoped for a band I had heard about a lot but hadn't actually heard very much music from.

3.4 It's fine. Not sure how it started glam rock, doesn't feel very glam. Feels like a nice, levelled, strip back bit of rock. Something that Black Keys revived many decades later. Actually a lot different than I expected based on status, thought it would be a lot heavier but felt like they played it incredibly safe. Can't see it having great longevity in anyone's playlist which is probably why these guys never really transcended the decades.

Good but dated and not for me

I think everyone is aware of all the T Rex singles and to be fair there’s not a bad one amongst them. This is the first time I’ve listened to a full album and I was pleasantly surprised that there was more to them than that sound. Some really cool relaxed tracks but some absolute shockers ( rip off ). It’s an album of its time and probably not one I’ll revisit

Strong start and I was like "oh, glam rock actually sounds quite good", then after the Gong was Banged, it's fairly lacklustre.

it was alright

Certain songs remind me of early Pink Floyd. It was okay.

not revolutionary but pretty ok. i liked a few 5.5/10

I'd get high to this album, but I'm not sure I could listen to the whole thing again without some sort of substance.

Good folk music but nothing special

Quite good idk what to say

This was good, but not great. It had a couple stand-outs. 3.5/5

A bit closer to home British rock, didn't recognise them at first until I heard Get It On (AMAZING TRACK, really got to appreciate it this time). I really really enjoyed the vocal choices in the chorus. The harmonies, especially the processing on the higher vocal is ethereal saves the whole project for me. It is SO 70s Rock. Other than that this is not the usual style of music I listen to - so it was hard for me to get into it. Fav songs - Cosmic Dancer and Get It On Overall - 6.5/10

я забула дослухать але доволі прикольно, спокійна музика, мені зайшло але навряд колись переслухаю

If I was in need of a 70’s soundtrack, this would be a contender

Not bad. Bit slower than I expect of 70s rock but decent. Surprised I'd only heard 1 song from this previously.

I think I quite liked it?

Groovy, fun

Weird but in a friendly entertaining manner, some definite bops, it seem to be about or to a person - all very personal

Really good album would definetly listen again, would like something maybe more upbeat

Okay? Enjoyable tunes, but not anything I'd jam out to

Funky og feel-good! Likte dette. Relisten: ja.

It’s okay, I like the instrumental, how rock-ish it is, and the album cover but I really don’t like the voice, it just makes me feel like a church mom

2 songs in, I quite like it! Cosmic Dancer best song so far. Monolith is good too. 3.5

I think this album is gonna be chill with some upbeat songs but a good album to have in the background of doing any activity. Mambo Sun- I not really sure how to feel about it, I liked it but I’ve never really thought of myself actually listening to a song like that but it’s chill Cosmic Dancer- Is more of the type of song I see myself listening to. It has a pretty melody and his voice really suits this type of song. Jeepster- is one of those upbeat songs, I feel like I’m in an 80s movie and I’m getting ready for a Halloween party or like going somewhere with my friends. I enjoyed it. Monolith- I like the intro, wow, I liked how his voice sounded in this one too. Probably my favorite song as of now! Lean Woman Blues- this song was chill, I didn’t really care for it. But I feel like it would be cool to see it live. It gave grease in the dance scene. Get it on- it was repetitive, it was still a good song but idk.. not really one I would listen to often. Planet Queen- it had a great intro I liked the beat it had for the song but it kinda got repetitive towards the end of the song but it’s still enjoyable. Girl- this song was good I think I tend to like more of his slower songs. But I really enjoyed that song! The motivator- I really liked this song, I think it’s one of the top songs. I like how at the end it speeds up. Life’s a gas- it’s a slower song. I really like this song too it’s low key neck and neck with the motivator… even though it repeats life’s a gas they make it fit where it doesn’t really become annoying or just repetitive. Rip off- a more upbeat song, I liked it especially when it changes the part a bit. The tenor or alto sax solo at the end it great too. It’s a little repetitive but it’s still a good song. Hot love - a side - you like the way she what.. this song made me feel like I was listening to country.. no hate idk why. It feels like I’m listening to a kids song towards the end.. I liked the beginning idk not my favorite song. Woodland rock- this is very grease dance scene.. not a song I would listen to often.. The king of the mountain cometh- the beat is like old country, dark but more rock upbeat in some parts. The doo ba doo a dow part sticks . This album is kinda what I thought it would be , having slow songs but also having upbeat songs. I think I prefer the slower songs in this album. I also learned I kinda hate when artists make noises themselves. Like the constant WOW was not my style. But this album is something to have in the background while studying or just anything. I would give it like a 2.5/3 out of 5 cause there’s are good songs like cosmic dancer and monolith. As well as life’s a gas and the motivator being behind those songs. A lot of the songs would probably be really cool to hear in person at a concert but a lot of those songs were giving a dance scene in the 70s/80s movies. Overall I think I would listen to some of the slower songs again while idk about the rest.!

Glam rock at it's finest?

It was fine I guess. Classic rock. A little psychedelic...nothing more nothing less.

Nice, "Get It On" ewig nicht gehört und viele spannende Ansätze dabei.

Not bad for the first album of this project. I thought there were some great instrumentals on this album, but I also thought at some points the vocals were kind of hard to listen to. Overall, I thought the album was decent, and there are some songs I would listen to again.

You can hear the influences in there, Bowie, the Ramones, Iggy. I even reckon Elton John has spun a few T. Rex albums in his day. It doesn't quite lift me and they have never really hit the same heights as the acts they influenced. The ultimate proto band, except for maybe MC5. They're not quite punky enough to be punk, not quite glammy to be glam, not quite psychedelic enough, and the blues scales sound more and more out of date every year and ties them down musically. I like who they inspired, more than I like them.

Guete allgemeine hintergrund sound wo mi biz abght het aber au ned zviel dasis nomal lose würd. Aber 3 mal am Brontosaurus de buggel aberutsche würi

Arrancó más o menos. Remontó una banda. Gran album. Me gustó. 7/10

I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this album and wish 1/2 point rankings were available, a 3 seems slightly too low but a 4 seems too high. I will be listening to more T. Rex and am thankful for this project for introducing me to this album.

Really solid classic rock with an ear towards either influencing or being influenced by Bowie. It was a little boring at times though.

I’m not huge on T. Rex but I guess it is pretty groovy. Kind of downbeat and better in the background. Just shy of a 4.

You could have told me this was David Bowie and if I didn’t know “Bang a Gong” I’d believe you. This was solid and even though it’s “glam” I feel like it must have influenced lots of lo fi indie rock that came after

Good foundational rock album. Some blues songs and the mega hit of Bang a Gong.

Effortlessly cool, very Bowie influenced. Loved it when I was younger.

Mambo Sun - 3.5/5 Cosmic Dancer - 3.5/5 Jeepster - 3.5/5 Monolith - 3/5 Lean Woman Blues - 3.5/5 Bang a Gong (Get it On) - 4.5/5 Planet Queen - 3.5/5 Girl - 3.5/5 The Motivator - 3.5/5 Life's a Gas - 3/5 Rip Off - 3.5/5 A very tightly produced album that ushered in the wave of British glam rock. The main problem I have with this record is that most of the songs feel like they're building up to something and then the song abruptly ends without the sound resolving. Outside of Bang a Gong/Get it On I didn't really get any of the other songs of the album. They didn't so much as blend all together as mush, it's that there really wasn't anything that made them stand out compared to one another

Grooves in abundance, with a bit of psych thrown in. I love it. Favorite track: Bang a Gong (Get It On)

liked it! super slow but makes me feel relaxed. played fortnite during this album! feels like jazz not sure tho. sometimes going to listen to it again. i liked this one song so much but i didn’t check which one was it. my first album in here

Not my thing, only song that stood out to me was monolith. 5.3/10

Surprising 3 stars for me, I liked this more than I expected. It definitely grew on my the further I got into it, lots of catchy, toe tapping, booty shaking music, unlikely to make my rotation, but it’s better than I expected.

Good album - not everything on here is amazing but a fun listen nonetheless.

A couple of good songs, but not a good album.

It was okay i guess Solid 6/10?

Rock doesn't get much more classical-er than this.

the cover looks like cross Would I listen again? No Deserves to be on this list: maybe 3.4

3.6/5 top 3: get it on woodland rock the motivator love the sound

hey trex voll cool ehrlich

Good! Didn’t know that’s where That Song was from!

Hmmm there's like glints of something better in here, but really overall it's just fine. Kinda blends together

David Bowie must've set an impossible expectation for me with regards to glam rock. While this album by T. Rex is solid, and has its moments of brilliance, I find it, and many other glam acts from the 70s, live in the shadow of albums such as Hunky Dory or The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, whose bombast and larger-than-life sounds tend to drown out anything else that dabbled in this genre.

Well I can see why T. Rex was a one-hit wonder in the U.S. Get It On is a bop. The rest? It’s fine. Just… fine.

Some nice blues rock brought into the 70s with glam. Not very remarkable of an album, although Bang a Gong (Get It On) was catchy. Standouts: Mambo Sun • Bang a Gong (Get It On) • Rip Off

T. Rex is one of those bands, like Big Star, that gets splashed all over these best of lists but, to me, seems like album after album of indistinguishable songs in one mass.

the creator of glam rock!

It's a rock album, thought I didn't know the band at all until I heard Bang a Gong. Not the best, not the worst. Girl and Life's a Gas were my favorite songs. More mellow than I thought so it was not too bad.

Was surprised by how many of these I knew. Enjoyable listen.

This album is incredibly fun and makes me feel a little like I should be listening to it a beat up Ford driving down some highway somewhere. I remember getting into this album a bit when I was 16 but I've never sat down and listened to the full thing until now and what a treat it was! The guitar in this album is soo addicting and the horns in this are just, for lack of a better word, so sexy.

My heart sinks every time I see the years 1971 and 1972 appear on here as the albums are invariably rammed full of pretentious noodling from drug-addled hippy goons (99% blokes). Well, thank goodness for Marc Bolan, someone who understood that life needs more than noodling. At a time when every other critical darling was so far up their own rectum, Marc remembered that the milkman needed something to whistle on his morning round. So yes, there is a fair amount of pretentiousness going on here, hence the 3 star rating, but there are also some banging tunes. No idea what Jeepster is about, but what an absolute belter it is! Bolan and Bowie are just about all you need from this era. Everyone else can get in the sea, quite frankly.

T Rex has an enduring legacy because of Marc Bolan's distinctive sound and definitely not his subpar lyricism. Balances out into a pretty good record all things considered.

I've never really bothered with T. Rex but let's be straight, they have some excellent songs and a handful of them make it onto here... _Jeepster_, _Get It On_, Life's a Gas_ and _Cosmic Dancer_. When they're good, they're very good.... but when they're not, I just find a lot of it a bit meh. There's probably enough good stuff on here to merit further listens and perhaps it's just familiarity of those great tracks that are somehow making the other ones seem inferior. Time will tell.

All over the place but solid

Rockin it, bang a gong, get it on

For some unknown reason this reminds me of the Metal Micky telly show. It would have been the perfect soundtrack: new, shiny, the future. It still sounds fresh, over fifty years later. Bolan knew how to riff. He's Chuck Berry with an afro perm. The singles of course stand out. Jeepster had me swaying along first thing in the morning, still in my PJ's. There's a certain amount of sorrow, before the boogie picks you up again. Decent.

It's fine, but I was expecting more. The production is a bit of a letdown. Definitely inspired Bowie so that's a plus. I can see why it made the list but it's not an all time classic.

Clearly foundational.

All of it is just kinda boring. Bang A Gong is the only upbeat and uptempo song on the album. The rest is just mopey and slow. What a waste of a great album cover when you really want to hear a sonic wall of rock.

It's OK, without Get It On it would be mediocre at best.

This was unexpectedly fun. It's a 3.5 for me

I've seen this album cover around, though I don't think I've listened to a single song from T. Rex before. That being said, I know I'm in for a rockin time. Either progressive rock or hard rock, were I to really go out on a limb with my prediction. Glam rock. I'm more or less there. This is pretty decent. I'm far from a glam rocker (I'm certain that I've only listened to one glam rock album outside of this one), though there's an undeniable level of polish here. The vocals have a cool confidence to em, and I enjoy the variety in the instrumentals. Admittedly, I don't care much for the non-heavy hitter tracks, though this album has a respectable runtime and I thought the music was decently listenable overall. "Mambo Sun" is a good opener. The song has a nice, relaxed feel to it and the vocals are a fitting accompaniment. "Cosmic Dancer" has a good melody. Those hushed vocals are, once again, quite good, and I like the strings/reversed sound that the track adopts in the second half. I've heard "Bang a Gong" before. Decent tune. The bluesy sound works quite well, and those vocals are once again the highlight. The guitars go a long way in laying on the pressure of the track, and I'm also a fan of that chorus. "Rip Off" is a solid closer. The sound on the electric guitar is very good. Those saxes aren't bad, either. I'm impressed by how much they carry the song. Book time. Bolan is a unique character. The music is good. Nothing much in there beyond that. Wikipedia says that this album was a pivot for the band, influenced a lot of musicians, is widely regarded as the first glam rock album and charted well in both the UK and US. Those are solid qualifiers. I cosign this inclusion.

Kinda don't see the appeal of this. It's interesting enough...kinda sounds like the black keys ripped this off entirely...but there's nothing that stands out here, to me. Just sorta mellowed out blues rock background music.

I feel like this could have been awesome if this was sped up 50%

😏👍🏻

Had fun. Nothing stellar.

It had good hits but there was that one famous track "Bang a Gong" is a classic. I rate it a 3 because it was only "Bang a Gong" that really was to my liking. The others were fine but I thought of them as unforgettable.
