Niiiiiice

I really dig this recording. Primal Scream goes in several directions musically and you don’t what is coming next. A very enjoyable and uplifting listen I highly recommend!!!

For me, this is the peak of the Madchester scene. It was a style defined by former post punkers discovering ecstasy and rave culture. Like other bands of the era, they recruited electronic music DJs to blend their style into something else. In this case, it was Andrew Weatherall (with some work from The Orb's Alex Patterson) to create a collage of sound including punk, dance, ambient, gospel, and whatever else they could throw in. It's definitely a challenging album but with some gems, really highlighting the sound of the era. The album would go on to win the first Mercury Prize and the legacy remains as a significant album of its time and place.

nada do q eu esperava. com o nome do album e o nome da banda eu achei q ia ser moh paulera berraria, mas eu amei! super experimental indie rock com mta variedade e as musicas blend uma na outra super bem

Classic. Even if Bobby G is an arsehole. More of a A Weatherall product anyway. 5.

Another 90s Classic, breaking both new ground and tradition of much of what had gone before. Complete genre bender, just the 7 listed on Wiki, although listing both Madchester and Baggy may be an exercise in tautology.. 4 or so huge songs on here obviously, but enjoyed the rest of it at least as much as in its heyday, if not more.

One of my most listened to albums of the 90s. A seminal UK release, showcasing a fusion of dance and Indy, which surprisingly hasnt aged at all badly. It’s still a wonderful and varied listen. Five stars all the way.

Amazing album

El intro de Loaded "Just what is it you want to do?" con el pequeño grito de "Oh wait a minute let's go" vive rent-free en mi cabeza

Okay this one was really cool. Is it indie-rock? Is it house music? Just an awesome cross-genre experiment with some great grooves. Goddamn. 50 albums in this might be my new favourite discovery during this project. Just a killer album top to bottom. So many different genres thrown into this one, so much that would feel really progressive even nowadays. Absolutely loved it.

The definition of early 90s British music. Really outstanding psychedelic/electronica/indie album. The production still sounds fresh even it's made nearly 35 years ago. It's a bit long album, and has a slower pace than what I remembered. It's a 4.5 stars rounded up because of its legacy and the fact that I love this genre a lot. And for songs like Loaded, or I'm Coming Down it deserves the highest rate.

This album has always been accredited to LSD but no one ever talks about where these guys found that. There’s only one man it could have been. Sir Len Houmous. One night with Len was the original name of this album until the record label suggested Screamadelica which was actually the word someone used to describe a night out with Len! 4.7 3/11 Don’t Fight It, Feel It

A stone cold classic...an immaculate transformation of Primal Scream and much credit to Andrew Weatherall. One of those early 90s classic albums.

amazing really cool album happy it exists fr

Iconic

Seminal album. Had on heavy rotation in the early 90's. A couple of the tracks do now sound a little dated / flimsy but majority are still bangers.

Aggressively up my alley. House had a baby with psychedelic rock and I will raise it as my own

Superb, their best output by a long way

Just an all time great album, not aged at all.

This is a great piece of work. A standard for alternative music!

Love this one

REALLY GOOD. “movin’ on up” is a GREAT opener and i THINK it reminds me of george michael (maybe “faith”)? another stand out is “don’t fight it, feel it” which definitely is similar to “funky town”. all in all a pretty diverse, yet cohesive album. did not feel like an hour. 5/5.

If vibes could be made physical, this album would be a damn good example. 4.5 bumped up to 5.

Really unique and really creative. Great album

One of my favourites

Favourite!

Dug it.

Super chill and extremely relevant. I had not heard the full album before but throughly enjoyed it.

"Just what is it that you want to do?" "We wanna be free. We wanna be free to do what we wanna do. We wanna get loaded and we wanna have a good time"

The fusion of dance and indie was striking at the time (dont think it was the first?) But what this album dors is uses both those forces to create something new. But has some absoulte crackers for me this was the album of the 90s

Brixton at 6 (5) in the morning was a sobering experience, a bit like the opening to Flowered Up's 'weekender' video. Primal Scream had just finished a Screamadelica all nighter at the academy, but it was the night the clocks went forward so we were short changed by an hour. Love this album, still sounds fresh (even with my rose-tinted bias). Love this band too, but you still owe me an hour you cheeky fuckers.

A phenomenal album, with film samples, gospel, and indie rock. It's all over they place and coherent at the same time. I get s lot of nostalgia listening to this.

i love glasgow i wish it was real. to be honest though, was overjoyed to see this album today when i am a long time primal scream appreciator and with 13 days to finals i really need the radical optimism of 'movin on up' to start the day

How did I not know about this group? I love this album! I’d definitely add it to my playlist… if I had one.

Incredible first listening experience. Starting off with a solid folky rock song, the band dives, very tastefully, into acid house and dance. Higher than the sun and Come Together are both incredible songs in the acid house/bass genre. The band then switches the up tempo first halve of the album to a slower second half. Damaged is a major highlight from this part. While not entirely perfect, this album is a crossover of many different genres, and it is done very well. I can easily see how this album is influential, with Animal Collective coming to mind. This is personal favorite from this list so far, with so many intriguing ideas and groovy instrumentals. And the album cover is sick.

Love this one so much

This was not what I was expecting. The name makes me think alt/grunge rock like the Motley Crue song. Yeah it's not that. This is a really solid album. There is a lot going on and it's pretty enjoyable. I'll have to check out the rest of their music.

One of my fav albums of mine later in life like in my mid 30s such a vibe of mid nineties london not like i would know just wat i imagine innit

10/10…alternative dance / indie disco

Time to don my novelty bucket cap and the most ludicrous jeans ever made, down a handful of pills, and pop in a pacifier to bliss out to the ultimate rave rock album.

Fascinating, varied, excellent

Inspirational mix rock , dance and gospel

This was great. I had never heard of Primal Scream before today, and I was bracing for something really brutal and obnoxious, but from the very first instant of the very first track, I was happily greeted with some great-sounding acoustic guitar strumming in a trippy, stilted rhythm that made my ear and brain happy. It just kept rolling from there, and I loved every track. Lots of trip-hop sounding stuff, some sample-heavy stuff, some melodic and psychedelic stuff, just overall great. Sometimes reminded me of Lou Reed in places, sometimes some of the stuff on the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack. I listened twice -- five stars.

Essential. Saw them play the album live a couple of years ago. Magic night.

One of the best

This will never be my favourite album ever, but I think having given it a fair crack it's just about a 5* It's varied, complex, nuanced - it takes you on a journey. I can totally see why this was the big acid/LCD soundtrack in the 90s. Totally deserves the iconic status it has, in my opinion.

наааайс

5+ Stars (15/15)

I can't be objective about this one. It probably has a little too much filler to truly deserve a 5 star rating, but the whole album is such a vibe, and the standout tracks are such classics in the indie/dance crossover genre, that anything less would be a disservice. Can we talk about the album cover too? Iconic.

Ok, so admittedly this is probably a nostalgic 5 but this is great. Primal Scream never did anything else remotely as good as this though so I think Andrew Weatherall (r.i.p.) has to get a lot of the credit

Kuunneltu pelkkä 59 min aljuperäisosuus..m. Ei kauheasti bullshittiä löytynyt... onko kumommetoihien häränpaska mistä kptoosiin heh taitaako omasta päästä tässä albumissa ei...

Just a beautiful album, think this will get even better with more listens. Wicked psychedelic house vibes. Wish I had more to say, but honestly I just know I loved this. EDIT: It did get better with relistens. 8.5 / 10 Best tracks: Loaded, Come Together, Higher Than the Sun, Don't Fight it, Feel It.

This is #day79 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... we're gonna have a good time, we're gonna have a party! I literally can't sit still whenever this record plays. Screamadelica is undoubtedly one of the most essential albums of its time. It's a head-spinning time capsule with an explosive blend of styles: acid house, Madchester, dub-reggae, neo-psychedelia, and so much more. No substances required, the music does the trick. I also love to blast it on vinyl. If you like to drop the needle now and then, the 2015 EU reissue is bound to knock your socks off. With tracks like "Slip Inside This House," "Don't Fight It, Feel It," "Higher Than The Sun," and "Loaded," it's all about the v-i-i-i-be... Yes, this is the one to listen to before you die. But, I'm hell-bent on revisiting this album more in the future. This is a definite 5 out of 5. Looking forward to #day80.

offbeat album with varied soundscape. Not a single boring moment. Favorite track: loaded other picks: moving on up, i am coming down, higher than the sun, don’t fight it feel it. almost the entire album calls for re-listens.

Easily in my top 10 all time. Up until a couple of years ago I had only ever heard the original version of Come Together, but apparently the one with lyrics is the one that’s on all the North American versions of this album. I don’t necessarily prefer it as part of this album, but I will listen to it much more on its own.

Classic 90s alt/dance album. I pretty much enjoyed every song on this one. Very vibey and chill. Would go hard live 👍

Awesome album with some great beats, very danceable

30 odd years and still as fresh as when it came out. Classic

Alternative dance, neo-psychedelia. Muy agradable.

The band name, and perhaps even the title of the album, would have you thinking you’re about to listen to a sludge/doom metal band (or something adjacent), but this could not be risibly further from the truth. This album is full of bright, sunny tracks that mix forms of dance/soul/blues/funk/jazz/psychedelic! These songs have one feeling as if they’re floating through the summer air. Something rather striking about this record is how “modern” much of it sounds. A few tracks would have one thinking this was released within the 2000s as opposed to the 1990s. Perhaps this quality can be explained by the album’s solid production, and elements of the songs’ composition. This album merits a 5/5.

God, Screamadelica was genuinely one of the craziest albums i have ever listened to. It would generally tend to flip flop between a 60s psychedelic rock album or it would be a drug induced electronica album. And i absolutely love it for that. The electronic bits managed to find that balance between weird and cool and the choir parts were also a really cool addition. Due to it's nature, it was also an album that really kept me on my toes with every song managing to provide some new element. This album is just super weird and that's why i love it. Best Song: Come Together Worst Song: Inner Flight

Really good actually. Very good electronic bits and very good psych bits. Just an amazing project. Very cool!

### **In-Depth Review of "Screamadelica" by Primal Scream** "Screamadelica," the third studio album by Primal Scream, released in 1991, stands as a seminal work in the history of British music. This review delves into its lyrics, music, production, themes, and influence, and assesses its strengths and weaknesses. #### **Lyrics** The lyrics of "Screamadelica" are a mixture of hedonism, spirituality, and introspection. The album opens with "Movin' on Up," which features optimistic and almost gospel-like lyrics: "I was blind, now I can see / You made a believer out of me." This sets the tone for a transformative journey. Tracks like "Higher Than the Sun" reflect the escapism and drug culture of the era: "My brightest star's my inner light, let it guide me." The use of celestial imagery conveys a sense of transcendence, indicative of the era's rave culture. "Loaded," built around a sample of Peter Fonda's speech from "The Wild Angels," is more straightforward in its hedonistic message: "We wanna be free to do what we wanna do." The lyrics on "Screamadelica" aren't always profound but serve their purpose in capturing the spirit of the time. They resonate with themes of freedom, release, and the search for deeper meaning, even if that meaning is often found through altered states of consciousness. #### **Music** Musically, "Screamadelica" is a melting pot of genres, blending rock, house, dub, gospel, and psychedelia into a cohesive whole. The album's production was heavily influenced by DJ culture and the burgeoning rave scene. 1. **"Movin' on Up"**: This track combines rock and gospel, with jangly guitars and soulful backing vocals creating an anthemic sound. 2. **"Slip Inside This House"**: A cover of the 13th Floor Elevators song, it merges psychedelic rock with a driving, danceable beat, showcasing the album's genre-blending prowess. 3. **"Don't Fight It, Feel It"**: Here, house music takes center stage with a pulsating beat and repetitive lyrics that encourage surrender to the rhythm. 4. **"Higher Than the Sun"**: A standout track with its lush, ambient soundscapes and dub influences. The remix by The Orb emphasizes the track's otherworldly qualities. 5. **"Loaded"**: Built on a sample from The Rolling Stones' "I'm Free," it transforms into a dance-floor anthem with its infectious groove and celebratory horns. The album's diversity in musical styles is one of its greatest strengths, showcasing Primal Scream's ability to synthesize different influences into a new, innovative sound. #### **Production** The production of "Screamadelica" was groundbreaking, with Andrew Weatherall playing a crucial role. The production techniques employed were innovative for the time, incorporating elements of dub, ambient, and house music into the rock framework. 1. **Sampling and Remixing**: Weatherall's use of sampling, particularly on "Loaded," transformed the track from its rock roots into a dance anthem. The use of samples was not just decorative but integral to the album's structure. 2. **Layering and Soundscapes**: Tracks like "Higher Than the Sun" and "Inner Flight" use dense layering of sounds, creating rich, immersive soundscapes. The use of reverb, delay, and other effects gives these tracks a dreamy, expansive quality. 3. **Live and Electronic Fusion**: The album seamlessly blends live instrumentation with electronic elements. The drumming on "Movin' on Up" contrasts with the programmed beats of "Don't Fight It, Feel It," yet the transition between these styles feels natural. The production on "Screamadelica" was a significant factor in its critical success, setting new standards for how rock and electronic music could intersect. #### **Themes** "Screamadelica" explores themes of freedom, ecstasy, spirituality, and transformation. The album captures the essence of the early '90s rave culture, with its focus on communal experiences and altered states of consciousness. 1. **Freedom and Liberation**: Songs like "Loaded" and "Movin' on Up" celebrate personal freedom and liberation, both from societal constraints and personal limitations. 2. **Ecstasy and Transcendence**: Many tracks focus on the pursuit of ecstasy, not just in the sense of drug use but in the broader quest for transcendental experiences. "Higher Than the Sun" is emblematic of this theme, suggesting a spiritual awakening. 3. **Introspection and Transformation**: Despite the hedonistic overtones, there's a reflective quality to tracks like "Damaged," which deals with themes of loss and healing. The album's closing track, "Shine Like Stars," offers a sense of redemption and hope. These themes resonate throughout the album, providing a narrative that mirrors the highs and lows of the rave experience. #### **Influence** "Screamadelica" had a profound influence on the music industry, particularly in the UK. It bridged the gap between rock and electronic music, paving the way for other bands to explore similar fusions. Its success demonstrated that dance music could achieve critical and commercial acclaim. 1. **Cultural Impact**: The album became synonymous with the early '90s rave culture, capturing the zeitgeist of a generation seeking new forms of expression and community. 2. **Musical Influence**: Bands like The Chemical Brothers, Oasis, and Underworld have cited "Screamadelica" as an influence. Its blending of genres helped to break down barriers between different musical styles. 3. **Production Techniques**: The innovative production techniques used on the album influenced countless producers and artists. The use of sampling, remixing, and genre blending became more widespread in the years following its release. #### **Pros and Cons** **Pros:** 1. **Genre Blending**: The seamless integration of rock, house, dub, and gospel creates a unique and innovative sound. 2. **Production Quality**: Andrew Weatherall's production is masterful, employing cutting-edge techniques that were ahead of their time. 3. **Cohesive Themes**: The album's exploration of freedom, ecstasy, and transformation gives it a thematic depth that resonates on multiple levels. 4. **Cultural Significance**: Captures the essence of early '90s rave culture, making it a historical artifact as well as a musical achievement. 5. **Diverse Soundscapes**: Each track offers something different, from the anthemic "Movin' on Up" to the ambient "Higher Than the Sun." **Cons:** 1. **Inconsistent Lyrics**: While the lyrics often serve the music well, they can be simplistic and repetitive, lacking depth in places. 2. **Cohesion**: The wide range of styles, while a strength, can also make the album feel disjointed at times. 3. **Dated Elements**: Some production choices, particularly those heavily tied to the rave culture of the early '90s, may sound dated to modern listeners. 4. **Experimental Tracks**: Some tracks, such as "Inner Flight," may not appeal to all listeners due to their experimental nature. ### **Conclusion** "Screamadelica" by Primal Scream is a landmark album that successfully merges diverse musical styles into a cohesive and innovative whole. Its exploration of themes like freedom, ecstasy, and transformation, combined with Andrew Weatherall's groundbreaking production, makes it a seminal work in the history of British music. While it has some lyrical and cohesion weaknesses, its cultural and musical impact remains significant. "Screamadelica" is more than an album; it's a journey through the highs and lows of the early '90s rave culture, capturing the spirit of an era and influencing generations to come.

This is really quite good. Had no expectations going in -- and I just thought it was great from front to back. I'm not sure why the two dub odysseys "Come Together" and "Screamadelica" are greyed out on Spotify, but it's worth the 20 minutes to find them and play them back to back. Such a vibe.

I loved this album, very much.

This is an album that I listened to for the first time only a couple of years ago or so. I’ve revisited it occasionally and every time I do I like it more and more. It’s definitely a classic, influential album and it’s a joy to listen to, pure fun from beginning to end. It’s just the right mix of dance and psychedelic, with sprinkles of classic rock and soul. Sublime.

Still as good, if not better, than it was at the time. Easily in my top 10 and has been since it was released. A truly life changing and life affirming album.

I came into this thinking that I knew Screamadelica and it was good. I was not ready for the sheer strength and emotional connection I was going to get with this album. From the very opening moment to the comedown section at the end (how does this dance album also contain something as beautiful as Damaged?! How!) it encapsulates an era, a vibe and a place almost perfectly. It's not getting 5.0 on the basis of a couple of songs that are too straightforwardly dance songs for my tastes (Inner Flight in particular is a chore), but it's outstripped expectations so much. A word too for Andy Wetherall (RIP) for his Loaded mix. What a song that is, what use of samples. The introductory sample sends shivers down the spine and the opening brass is just an explosion of joy.

Wonderfully fun listen

Jeg knuselsker den her plade, man kan bare høre rock blive til elektronisk musik i real time

Alternative dance, neo-psychedelia. Muy agradable.

What a wild album, full of bangers. Enjoyable end to end. I love it!

I don't know when I would have given this album a proper listen if not for this service. I was blown away by the sound, concept, and influence Screamadelica has had on almost every genre of music since its release/

Brutal

Loved this album. Best one of the challenge so far. I've saved it to my favourites

Fantastic!! That's all.

"We are gonna have a good time, we are gonna have a party!" This is a wonderful album. "Loaded" is a real masterpiece. Had a good time while listening!

This is fun and funky. Reminds me of the Gorillaz if they were more indie pop.

Really amazing great find!! Sonic wonderland

new, fresh, exciting! git it downloaded fr fr the first track does pack massive youth pastor vibes tho lol

Classic album that's both amazing to listen to and hugely influential, aka the exact thing that should be on this list. The way they integrated house and rock was revolutionary and works so well.

I have to score this from the heart. This album was such a huge part of my life from the time Loaded came out in 1990 through to being at Uni in the mid 90's and the album getting played at every house party very week, even 4-5 years after it was released.

Seminal album of the '90s

Beste i sin sjanger

One of the greatest albums of all time. Pure acid house tinged joy. Andy Weatherall + Bobby Gillespie & co was a match made in heaven. Best listened to at 6am with friends after a big night out.

Really cool album! Had never heard of this. Good 90’s alt semi house tunes

Easy 5. Album is great while going all over the place with influences. Started a replay as soon as it ended and saved a bunch of tracks.

I've never taken drugs, but this album perfectly accompanies and mirrors the experience of eating a sticky toffee pudding. It starts with anticipation and excitement at the sight of the sticky deliciousness and the sugar rush of the first spoonful ('Movin' on Up' to 'Don't Fight It, Feel It'). Next up is the loved up joy and euphoria of eating the STP. At this stage you love the STP and everyone in the vicinity of the STP ('Higher Than the Sun' to 'Loaded'). Finally, you reach the post-consumption come-down stage of pure, sleepy, soporific contentment ('Damaged' to 'Shine Like Stars'). Rating: 5/5 Playlist track: Movin' on Up Date listened: 23/03/23

Good vibes. Didn’t know LSD inspired their change in sound.

10/10 FANTASTIC production and endlessly creative what a beautiful blend of 60s rock and 90s rave

Superb album, one of my favourites.

hell yeah

Brilliant

This is just the happiest album.

Never heard of the album or the band, sorry to say. very good music.

wonderful, will listen again

I listened to Vanishing Point from Primal Scream a month or two ago and I mentioned that I needed to look further into this group. Good thing it came up here because I had not been proactive about following through on that… The songs are sometimes psychedelic, sometimes rock, sometimes gospel, sometimes bluesy, sometimes who knows what. This album is a remarkably varied yet coherent collection of diverse songs. So so good! I was into this from beginning to end!

Alternative dance, neo-psychedelia. Muy agradable.

There are some albums you respect, admire or are even awestruck by. And then others that are just love. This is one of those I cannot love enough. Ten reasons why: 1. It easily passes the ‘what’s it like without the big hit singles’. Take out Movin On Up, Loaded and Come Together and you still have one almighty album. 2. Loaded is surely by common consent the greatest remix ever - and the Higher Than The Sun Orb remix and Terry Farley 12” remix of Come Together are not far behind. 3. It’s one of the great studio albums - like London Calling, The Hounds of Love or Revolver. By that I mean there’s a great producer at the helm (here the sainted and sadly departed Andy Weaterall, Jimmy Miller, The Orb and Hypnotone) and a sense of everyone pushing their skills and the tech to the max. 4. It’s the album - the track - that brought dance and guitars together. Well, it and Fool’s Gold. Unpopular view: it’s a better album than The Stone Roses. 5. Nobody, not even his mum, knows whether Bobby Gillespie can actually sing or not. 6. They left the title track off the bloody album! 7. It’s the entire PS career in one album - Memphis 70s rock, dub reggae, a rock band’s take on acid house, ambient. About the only thing missing is the Ramonesesque racket they’d get to on Xterminator. 8. There’s not one. Not two but three versions of Higher Than The Sun. 9. There must be a Memphis Sessions style original album before the fairy dust was sprinkled. Come on Creation. 10. The cover was - like all great albums of the time - a great t-shirt.

Interesting mixture of Indie Rock and more experimental stuff. Starting with Movin' on gave me the wrong impression of the album. This album would be more of a background music for me rather than an active "Headphones on eyes closed" kind of listen. Damaged has to be my favourite and is being added to my playlist right now. I really liked this album overall and thing it very much deserves to be on this list

This was awesome, how have I not listened to this before

So funky and weird I like it. It’s euphoric

Très joyeux, me fait penser à un road-trip. Top!! À réécouter.

i definitely needed that😮‍💨😃 fun in a bun...whats next homie

This was really nice. Strangely interesting but fun.

Ellevill klassiker

A beautiful and creative album full of infectious, hypnotic rhythms and takes inspiration from multiple genres. Rewards multiple listens.

Oh Man what an album - a soulful, fun rave and really there is nothing like it out there: it truly befits this list - one MUST listen to this album once in their lives.

I've always had a liking for Primary Scream but never really dug in. This album is great with Movin' on Up being such a classic. Come Together and Loaded are great tracks too.

Big nostalgia bump on this one, but also, c'mon, this shiz is iconic. Era defining, even! Fave track - "Come Together" leading into "Loaded" - awesome one two pairing!

Perfect from start to finish

Really odd. Not sure if it’s something I can listen to again, but it was really excellent at what it set out to do.

fuck i love this album. whenever i listen this album it takes me about a week to get the hook line from don't fight it feel it out of my head.

Loaded is such a good tune that it has to be a 5

Wow.

Maximum rock and roll!

love it

this album makes me happy to be alive

So good, such a nice discovery

Top shelf Madchester rave.

Excellent album, Higher Than The Sun, Come Together, Loaded etc. all perfect. I did not realize how good Primal Scream was ...until Screamadelica came out - afterwards they had a whole sequence of excellent albums.

Great at the time, still great now.

- great themes - interesting instruments - cohesive album

Solid. Going to listen to again. Feels like the origin of deep house

This was very pleasing to listen to

An underappreciated classic.

Great album that I had never heard before. Acid house with a gospel twist? Already bought a used CD of it arriving next week! 4.4/5.

Such a fantastic album. Not a bad song on it.

Already listened to it Very good

Fantastic

the end to end trip still sounds pretty much perfect

Unexpected. Retro bang!!

Great album from start to finish

Alternative dance, neo-psychedelia.

I feel like I've probably heard these songs again but I don't know for sure. I didn't know what to expect when I read the title and artist but I was pleasantly surprised!

Espectacular

This album kills starting at Loaded through to the end

Someone asked the question "what do the Beach Boys, Gospel, the Buzzcocks and E have in common?" and created this to try to answer it. And it's actually really fun

Groovy AF

Was really sick when high

Surprisingly good!

I like this very much - fav track is LOADED.

A very good album, well produced (judging off of thier previous albums, Andy Weatherall had a massive input to how big this album was), let down somewhat by a not very good vocalist (not tlk about how shit a bloke he is, though by all accounts he could be a shot bloke).

Pleasant surprise after the so-so week so far (got this on a Thursday), one of the most unique entries so far, I might prefer this to the other psychedelic entries I've had so far

This was really nice! Enjoyed it a lot. Trippy, vibey and spacey

Lovely and weird. I always thought these guys were a post-punk but with more rocky aspects Boy was I wrong on this album!

This is a ripper of an album. Loved "Don't Fight It, Feel It" & Inner Flight. Incredible to think that this was made in 1991 - the album doesn't feel dated at all.

7.5/10

Gillar mycket sen tidigare, kul att den är med!

Riktigt härligt och inte alls vad jag förväntade mig.

En skiva som heter Screamadelica från ett band som heter Primal Scream är INTE världens oljud? Vilken twist. Riktigt bra ljud faktiskt!

3.5 stars

What an interesting mix. The songs with vocals I actually quite liked. Kind of a spacey shoegaze folk feet that worked for me. The electronic dance inspired stuff I found actually complimented and broke up the album but wasn't necessarily my style. There is something uniquely interesting about this album that I really appreciated. It's certainly not an all the time thing but I'm happy to have heard it.

Once again, a very refreshing yet wandering album. The genre felt like it was constantly morphing. I don't think I really had too many songs go above a three for me (Loved Loaded, Damaged, and Movin' on Up), but as a whole the album did something interesting, and for that I'll up it to a low four.

Heel vet gedaan, die psychedelische rock gecombineerd met groovy elektronisch. Echt apart.

Rating this one ain't an easy task. Basically, the album's great. But it is the beginning that shines bright with tasteful electronic stuff full of energy and beautiful overall composition. Starting from "Come Together", while the atmosphere remains vivid, the record seems to lose grip. It was, of course, deliberate, but everything just slows down, and while remaining psychedelic to a degree, Screamadelica emerges as a meditative record in the second half. Frankly, that latter part can mostly serve as a background music but cannot compete with the openers. I loved basically every piece in the start. Might have been a five star record, but I'll go with 4/5 for that tempo decline. That being sad, a good intro inro this band, they for sure know how to lace trippy beats.

An amazing album when it came out, there really was nothing else like it. It fused many different genres together, but it was so well done that it sounded amazing - it could easily have sounded forced or just fucking awful. There are several absolute bangers on this album e.g. Moving On Up, Loaded, the bulk of the rest are pretty good with only a couple of weak tracks.

This was an iconic LP of 90's UK, and actually, I think it still stands up to modern ears. I was surprised by some of the negativity on her, but ... different folk, different ears.

psychedelic, new wave, early 90’s, avalanche-esque dj sound with original songs

Are you ready to get your groove on? *napoleon dynamite voice* yEs

Best Track - "Movin On Up"

gillar! uppskattar även alla remix:ar på albumet som typ är trip-hop? har lyssnat på innan och minns att jag tyckte typ samma då.

Absolute classic!

Favorite Song: Movin' On Up

Surprisingly nice album. I was not really convinced after a first hearing but after listening a second I like it.

This could be 5 stars if they trimmed it down to the best 40 min

I was very surprised by this one. Interesting sounds, kept me engaged.

It was a game changer for me on its release, the perfect blend of sounds i didn't know i needed

Really liked this

okay so I guess the website just... hasn't been saving any of my thoughts or reviews so ALRIGHT todays review goes to the website and I will give it a 1.8/5

i'd only heard xtrmntr before this so screamadelica kinda caught me off guard. i didn't expect this much gospel influence? i fuck w/ it tho this album is great. i'm gonna say fuck it and list my favourite on this as "the entire first 6 tracks". they're all great. but i gueeeess if u put a gun to my head i'd probably say whichever of "higher than the sun" or "come together" sprang to mind first. its breaks & house music. i love this shit. on that note, my only real issue is that in the back third of the album they kinda just decided they were gonna drop the breaks & house music and do some soft rock type stuff instead. its not bad but like.. i've just been listening to Breaks and/or House Music for 40 minutes.... i don't wanna listen to soft rock right now....... cmon....... this one gave me the "i fuckin love music" feeling but i love house more than rock. sorry. thanks for dropping the 7 minute "higher than the sun" remix in at the end to take the edge off tho. it was needed badly.

First time hearing this band, really liked the album. Vocals reminded me of Mick Jagger on a couple songs, tight guitar, reminiscent of Led Zeppelin, so many sounds, multiple instruments, hypnotizing beats, moving chorals. Impressive

Primal success for that early 90s vibes.

This shit slaps, but IDK if it's very good. Not the best made, not the tightest tracks, but one HELL of a ride if you're willing to meet it where it is. It's a solid one for me. Standout Tracks: Slip Inside This House, I'm Comin' Down, Loaded 3.8

Over prikkel waardig

I really got into a few of the songs, and a few were just so-so. These songs caught and held my attention: --Slip Inside This House --Don’t Fight It, Feel It --I’m Coming Down Being high, I think, helps one enjoy this.

This album was hit or miss for me. Although mostly hit. The songs I liked, I really liked! The highlights were "Loaded," "I'm Comin' Down," and "Higher Than the Sun." But then there were songs that seemed like there were by a different band like "Come Together" (not a Beatles cover) and "Don't Fight it, Feel It"... I wasn't feeling it. I guess though the good outweighed the bad. Especially on second listen.

A really nice blend of indie rock and early 90s dance music. The whole album has this laid-back, almost floaty vibe that works surprisingly well over its full length. It doesn’t always feel super focused, but that’s kind of part of the charm. Some tracks really stand out, others drift by a bit — but overall it’s an easy album to get lost in.

Really cool - was not erxpecting this. 4.25/5

What a surprise! I really expected someone screaming at me. This was not that at all, really enjoyed listening to it. Maybe one song went too long for me, but over all it was a good experience!

Still pretty good. I first listened to this album about 23 years ago after reading a book about ‘90s British pop music that featured a large pile of cocaine on its cover. That book (The Creation Records Story: My Magpie Eyes are Hungry for the Prize by David Cavanagh) also featured Primal Scream, Oasis, and many other fine bands. I enjoyed this album more back then than I do now. There’s still a few great moments throughout, but some stuff on here hasn’t aged as well as other bits. The Rolling Stones cosplay was kind of jarring. I’d rate this 4.5 if that was an option.

Movin' On Up Don't Fight It, Feel It Higher Than the Sun Come Together Loaded

this was nostalgic for me, completely forgot about primal scream.

Lowkey euphoric.

A mixed bag of goodies.

Not as obnoxious as most albums labeled as “dance music.” In fact, I’d go so far as to say I rather enjoyed it.

i’ve heard of this one a lot. i see it everywhere but i hadn’t listened to it. i don’t really know anything about it. didn’t know it was a 90s album. i thought it was super recent. i was probably getting it mixed up with the new black country new road album from last year. i’m excited i really have no idea what to expect. holy shit this is not at all what i was expecting. i had no expectations at all and it still surprised me. i don’t know what to make of this. i was confused by the name and the marketing so i went to get a better handle on their sound after listening to “movin’ on up” by going to their previous album’s “i’m losing more than i’ll ever have”. that song’s awesome, but it doesn’t affect anything bc it’s not on screamadelica. back on slip inside this house. i cannot imagine how fans of this band felt when this came out. i still don’t know how to feel about the movin’ on up, but this song is really good i like this. this album is genuinely insane though. i’m tired i started this after midnight. i’m going to go to bed and start this over in the morning. i woke up a little sick, im not sure if that’s gonna affect how i feel about this. going back into movin’ on up now. he sounds like pablo honey thom yorke. movin’ on up hit a lot harder this time. great song. slip inside the house is so my shit. the house drum beat, always love a good sitar. however you would describe the vocal, it’s working for me. just realized how groovy that bass line is. it’s like a fucked up talking heads song. specifically off speaking in tongues. i’m on don’t fight it, feel it. getting a very similar vibe to the last track. that’s not a bad thing AT ALL. but judging the huge differences between the first two songs, i thought this album was going to be way more eclectic. but i’m on the third track and this album is over an hour long, we’ll see. nvm this is way different, way more of a straight forward house track. i love it. this album just makes me want to MOVE. obsessed with the bass lines on this so far. i understand why this is way more well regarded than the previous album now. as much as i loved im losing more than ill ever have, ive heard that kind of song plenty of times. this is something special. im on higher than the sun now. this album continues to be incredibly eclectic. i also love this sound. these guys are bright as hell. movin’ on up is such an odd opener in retrospect but i don’t think it was a bad choice. WOAH. the last minute of this song is so fucking good. when the beat switches. insane. i’m on inner flight now. i think this album was exactly what sick me needed. i really thought i was gonna hate it bc this album just hit me on a weird day but this is perfect. god i love new age. i love this notes feature. i love a good interlude. i love music, man. life is good. i took a short break. i’m on come together. uh oh. it’s different again but i’m not sure how i feel about this. yeah i don’t really care for come together. it’s well made and it is what it wants to be, but it’s so dated. it gives me the vibe of the end of a kids movie where everyone’s dancing. it also goes on for way too long, which i haven’t felt about a song on here yet. i’m on loaded now. i’ve never been huge on early 90s “tribe called quest” “de la soul” style rap. i do love a good slide guitar though. it also sounds a little dated but it’s not nearly as bad. i like this a lot more than come together. come together had this preachy “let’s all just be friends” vibe that i just hated. i’m surprised loaded is their biggest song on apple music, im not sure why that is. it’s not bad, it’s just not as grabbing as the rest of the tracks here. i’m not fully sure why this was the lead single. i’m on damaged now, i like the start of this but im gonna take another short break before i start it proper. i’m back, listened to pavement for a minute. damaged is fucking gorgeous. love a good acoustic ballad. especially after those last couple tracks. if oasis was good. i’m comin down now. what the gong. that song was also absolutely gorgeous. hypnotizing. i love when a song is hypnotizing. higher than the sun still incredible in the reprise. thank god. i love sound. both parts of these parts im super into. i love this repeating bass part, super cool. all the house tracks are just incredible well made. i’m on shine like stars now. dammit this one isn’t really doing it for me. fine enough ending, i feel like this is a hard album to close out. i just don’t think this track sticks the landing too well. it’s functional, at the very least. really really high highs with some duds in the middle and a somewhat disappointing end. 4/5

There’s so much to love about this album, and an 8/10 score feels harsh in a way. The high points are SO high. Movin’ on Up is an absolute banger, and Come Together & Loaded are incredible tracks too. I just absolutely love the positive energy the songs radiate. However there are way too many lengthy instrumentals / experimental moments that for me take away from the album’s flow. If you reduced the instrumentals by 10-15 minutes and replaced them with a couple of upbeat bangers, this has the potential to be a 10/10.

This is an extremely curious album. So diverse in its sound profile. Very high highs, and some low lows. It's produced and performed very well, and makes it a fun listen. Many of these songs are longer than I think they should be, but they sound good regardless. It's hard to label anything a skip because the arrangement of the album makes it difficult to feel like moving past any of the songs is a good idea. Really drags me in, even if some of the songs are more difficult to last through than others. It's hard for me to feel confident scoring this album, but here we go. 3.8/5

A proper slice of 90s indie psychedelic dance. Loved it back then, like it now.

- Love that they are speaking up against the current genocide and fascist climate and supporting Palestine. - This album is optimistic/uplifting, and I love the mix of genres. - It can feel a bit dated (mostly the vocals, especially the gospel ones, and some of the more 90s acid house elements), but there's still a lot of cool instrumentation and sounds that feels fresh - I'm into the production, overall. - Loaded and Movin' on Up are classics - I had heard of Primal Scream because of those songs, but I'm happy to have heard this album. I'll definitely look up more of their stuff now.

Movin’ on Up // Come Together // Loaded // 3.5/5

I was worried about the band's name...but was pleasantly surprised! Like their sound!

What is it about LSD that makes everyone talk about drifting and stars and whatnot? That seems to be a common thread between quite a few of the albums I've gotten on this list so far, along with other albums I've heard that aren't on here. Anyways, this is pretty good. I wish they did more with the dancey stuff like they did at the start, but the amount of variation makes this album pretty fun. It sounds like they let the drugs take them wherever and they just tried to make it work. They even managed to sneak in a few saxophone bonus points towards the back end of the album.

Quite experimental but a good album and listen. Enjoyed the instrumentation and the general vibe was solid.

Misleading name but a fun album.

Not sure if it works as an 'album' as such, but as a collection of singles there's no denying that this is just sublime.

Pretty good.

❤️👌🏻

Feel-good early 90s nostalgia.

Good album

Solid album. I think some parts lost me and were too out there, but there’s a lot of great stuff throughout. I’ve been listening to Movin’ on Up for years now and it only hit me how much it reminds me of You Can’t Always Get What You Want by the Stones. I wasn’t a huge fan of Higher Than the Sun, so the fact it’s on there twice bumps the album down a few points. Other than that, interesting listen.

I don’t even know what the hell is going on but I liked it’s vibe!

Me gusto mucho tho

What a vibe! This is a solid album, Iblike the energy in the beginning of the album, although the slower rhythm the second version of "Higher Than the Sun" kinda make the album melanholic. I think this was the purpose. 4/5

Ah, there were many years where this would have been an absolute 5 from me. I have a lot of love for this album, and it does what it sets out to do very well. Playful use of sounds, samples, religiousity in the service of its moment.

Really like this, takes me back to uni

Solid superfun album.

A very good 90’s electronic acid house record. If you like fatboy slim, you’ll like this. If you like recent George Clinton, you’ll like this. If you like the 90’s you’ll like this.

Favorite track(s): Movin' on Up, Higher Than the Sun, Damaged

esperaba más por tremendo hype, me gusta cuando combinan tantos ritmos pero si le di skip a 3 rolas jajaja 😖 4 estrellas para que mi nobio no chille

Album is awesome as hell

Madchester is like the funniest name ever for a music movement ... anyways album rocks

That was nice. Didn't really give off the power of a primal scream, but still a nice album. Screamadelica is a pretty interesting album. It's got a pretty wide range of influences. It does sit in the indie rock camp pretty firmly, but it also has a persistent influence from house music, which is pretty neat to hear. This results in an album that feels pretty unique all things considered. Certainly more unique than most of the 90s British indie picks on this list. As such, the album gives a decent variety of songs. "Movin' on Up" is a pretty good opener. I've seen people compare this song and some of the album's other songs to the Rolling Stones, maybe to a bit of a detriment even. Fortunately, the song is a lot more reminiscent of the Stones' best songs like "You Can't Always Get What You Want" or "Sympathy for the Devil" and not the offensive ones like "Stupid Girl" or "Stray Cat Blues." No misogyny here, folks! The more electronic songs are where the album really gets interesting. Songs like "Don't Fight It, Feel It" feel like they belong in clubs, while both versions of "Higher Than the Sun" have a more ambient vibe. The album's consistently good, but not monotonous, which I appreciate. The album's a bit on the longer side, but it's not really to a detriment for this specific album. The writing has a focus on drugs, I guess. It's solid. Overall, Screamadelica is an album that represents the good parts of the UK's music culture of the 90s without all of the stupid boring parts. Good album. Decent 4/5.

Some nice songs, but I mostly liked that the album is not monotonous and has some variation to its music. 7/10

Pretty chilled out kind of synth popish music. Maybe it kind of has a dance vibe to it as well. I'm sure I haven't heard it before but some of the beats are familiar like it was sampled for another song. It's good stuff and I'm sure I will listen to it again. I'm sorry I didn't listen to it back in the day because it seems like something I would have loved as a young person.

solid album. super fun. not perfect by any means but i liked most of the songs

This was a weird, but somewhat enjoyable, vibe!

A few real bangers on here. Simpsons: No

I liked it more than I thought I would. First songs a banger and the rest ain’t bad

Not at all what I expected from the name, which I'm sure was intentional. I hear some late 80s Tears for Fears type influences and also the early roots of acts like Gorillaz. "Don't Fight It, Feel It" and "Higher than the Sun" were first-listen highlights. The dub version of "Higher than the Sun" had echoes of what A Perfect Circle has perfected.

I liked this it made good trippy nap music

What a weird mix of songs...but I like it! There's a lot of soul on this album and some great songwriting with nod inducing beats. Liked Songs Added: Movin' On Up Come Together Loaded

Well with a name like Primal Scream, I was NOT expecting some house music sprinkled with neo-psychedelia. I dig it.

Liked it more than I expected to.

No habia escuchado a Primal Scream. Trae muchos recuerdos a los ROlling Stones. Al menos en este disco. Me ha gustado

This is yet another one of those niche 90s albums I have seen a lot of people rave about and now that I have finally gotten around to it I am both very perplexed and impressed with what this shaped up to be. The sounds here shift up so much and play with some really odd textures that on paper should not work and yet come together to create a really mystifying 1 hour and 2 minute experience. This album has more mellow Folk-adjacent? music hidden between a lot of very forward thinking and confident Dance tracks that even by today's standards still feel refreshing. The unusual feelings this album provokes may not stick upon first listen, but with repeated lustens of tracks like Don't Fight It, Feel It and Movin' On Up it feels all the more special. If I could strike a similarity it would have to be to Pulp's 1995 hit Disco 2000 where it borders the line of being hardcore Rock anthem and club/dance music in a really spectacular way. Screamadelica is a very odd project, and I love it for that so much.

I’m still trying to solve the mystery of why this album cover is so familiar to me, but the music beneath the art is pretty cool. Repetitive at times and not exactly sure which direction it was going at any point, but I loved the richness and depth and creativity, and it made me feel kind of enchanted.

Wow, this is trippy! Some parts are too long but I enjoyed it.

Always loved the classics but great to hear the other synthy based tracks like inner flight - this is a great!

The two songs with videos were the most generic and boring on the album. Everything else was like a combination of The Stone Roses and jungle music which was pretty great. 7/10

Not really sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't this. Weird, but pretty good.

Mix up late 60s rock particularly classic era Stones with what was happening in early 90s rave and dance scene, sample some Coltrane and you have .. well this here record. And you will hear no complaints from me. 4 Star

Yes, it's great. No I didn't really want to listen to it at 9.30 in the morning.

Some pretty good electronic music, was a nice vibe for a walk along the coast while on holiday. 4 stars

this album dives into a few genres like indie, psychedelic, feels kinda trip-hop esc as well, it’s a bit messy in areas but i do think it’s really good, the first 2 tracks slap, some maybe a bit boring but i think this is the best i’ve heard from primal scream

Gets a four more out of respect for what it represents and its legacy than for any particular enjoyment on my part. It’s just not something I would ever choose to listen to. To my admittedly uneducated ears it sounds a bit dated and I’ve never got on with Bobby Gillespie as a vocalist.

It is a really confident album that has excellent songwriting and a sound that has aged really well.

Close to a 5 for me. Sometimes, albums that have a number of different influences become a bit too messy and unfocused but this becomes a brilliant collage of rock, blues, disco, house and even dub reggae amongst others. The singles are surprisingly joyous but the album doesn’t hinge on those alone.

Drenched in the rave music of the early 90's, and detractors will point out (rightly) that it never reaches the heights of the best acid house. But this isn't just an acid house album. It's also heavily influenced by classic rock and gospel, which makes for a very interesting set of sounds. Heck, the first song is basically a Rolling Stones song. The second, the best one, is a 13th Floor Elevators cover that shows off the hypnotic trippiness that's present on the more low key songs. "Come Together" combines all these influences, even clearly referencing the Beatles in its title. The slower moments aren't always as interesting as the ones that are full of keys and gospel vocals, but the album is rarely truly boring. It admittedly may not work great on an actual dancefloor, but it's a unique enough mixture to be a blast in other settings.

weird, najs :)

Kicking things off w/ a Stones-grooved banger, Primal Scream is euphoria and only exhilaration, be it in the mode of rock, soul, house, or something that's a primal emulsion of the three. This isn't psychedelia but straight-up MDMA-inspired lucidity, the kind of light Dante experiences upon entrance into The Empyrean: 'I've glimpsed, I have tasted / Fantastical places / My soul's an oasis / Higher than the sun.' That kind of experience more than warrants artistic expression, and Screamadelica is one of the best records to elide a qualifying negativity for the sake of basing an adventure that's authentically blissed-out. Even 'Damaged' is an ode to the good times in its own way. Several tracks are too long, but those who've rolled will get it.

After two albums firmly rooted in the British alternative/indie rock scene of the late 80s, Scottish band Primal Scream entered the 90s with what is largely considered to be their magnum opus: 'Screamadelica'. This album was pivotal in the emerging acid house scene of the early 90s, and even included two house DJs to produce the record. Their influence certainly shows, as many of the songs, including the gospel tinged 'Come Together', the slow rave of 'Loaded' and the dub track 'Higher than the Sun'. But there's also more conventional rock ('Movin' On Up'), Eno-esque ambience ('Inner Flight') and laid-back emotion ('Damaged'). 'Screamadelica' is an album that doesn't quite know what genre it wants to focus on, so it gives everything a go. The result is an album that surprisingly works (and would probably work even better on hallucinogenic drugs), and is probably one of the best sounding records of the 1990s from a production standpoint. 'Screamadelica' no doubt opened doors for a number of other noteworthy electronic acts (notably The Prodigy and Fatboy Slim) to follow suit later in the decade. Bit unfocused, but when Screamadelica gets it right, its quite the enthralling listen! 3.5/5

I was not looking forward to this based on the name after hearing a bunch of metal albums in a row, but I was pleasantly surprised. Didn't quite carry the mood the whole way through but overall a fun listen.

4 stars

sometimes woozy, sometimes wild, futuristic and also very much of the time it was made

Never heard before good Scottish band

Me pareció un discazo, es raro encasillarlo, es como una psicodelia, electrónica y pop.

4 good album

Phenomenal album! Just as vibrant as the cover art might suggest. Here, Primal Scream continue their 60's Rolling Stones worship, but instead of emulating their more blues work, they pick their masterful song "Sympathy for the Devil" as a blueprint. This, combined with the growing Baggy/Madchester scene of the time, results in a trippy, psychedelic journey of an album. Key tracks: Movin' On Up Slip Inside This House Higher than the Sun Come Together Loaded

A great mash of various genres psyched up to high heaven. Feels like the origin of indie/dance. While not all of it is superb, it's never boring. Fave track on this listen: Loaded

already listened to it. rly like it but find it inconsistent, big disparity between it's best and worst songs. rly like slip inside this house and the orb mix of higher than the sun

A lot like oasis, I quite enjoyed and want to learn more of their catalog.

07/09/2025 Absolutely not what I expected. It was actually okay. Spotify listeners: 1.2 million.

I’m a sucker for madchester. Didn’t love the last two songs though :(

once it settled into a groove it was actually OK. I couldn't tell whether it was a DJ or a band sometimes, maybe it means that's a positive result of experiments of genre-bending? Makes me want to put on an Adidas tracksuit, bucket hat and go clubbing in 1990s London. After repeated listens I actually really like how the drums, bass and piano lock in together in some of the songs like Loaded

Some not so great tracks but makes up for it with some absolute bangers. Remember to let your love shine on and not to lose control.

Didn't know what to expect here - never heard of 'em. Well, nice to meet you :) Diverse, interesting, well produced. It will make my rotation.

An acid-house-comedown of an album. I love the jazz and soul touches via the horn section - obviously the iconic riff on 'Loaded', and the breezy sax on 'I'm Comin' Down' amongst them. 'Movin' On Up' gets better and better, the gospel undertones, the slide guitar, the uplifting sense of euphoria. When at its best, the album is an absolute groove. Layers of funky bass, soul warbling, Staxy horns, piano/synth and disco drums are a killer combo. Add in a big Exile through to mid 70s Stones influence and it produces something superb. It also has a touch of filler, and a touch of less structured tunes that don't quite achieve meaningful ambience. Still, a strong outing.

chill infinito

I vaguely knew of this band, and was nervous because of the name that this would be death metal, but it’s not. Quite liked most all of this, with a variety of genres that was generally pretty catchy. The riff on Loaded sounded like Sympathy for the Devil.

A bit of a rollercoaster, starts out big with Rolling Stones meets gospel vibes and then genre hops to acid house dance. Similar in a way to Madchester bands like Happy Mondays or the Stones Roses, maybe pushing the sound further. It's long but has a few big hits, I feel like this is one of those albums I'll really love after a few more listens.

Not what i expected, better

Love the first song

Cannot say it is my type of music

# Album Name: Screamadelica # Artist: Primal Scream # Rating: 4/5 # Comments: This album has some strong singles. Absolute bangers. Sadly the rest of the album is a trippy psychedelic trip which detracts from it massivelly. Low 4. # Top Tunes: Movin on up / HTLS / Come together / Loaded # Would I listen to it again? Singles only.

Seminal. Trippy and brilliant. Defined the band despite them being a Stonesesque rock band up until this point (and reverting back after this album) Although Movin On Up and Damaged still hark back to these roots. The definitive Madchester acid house album despite them being from Scotland. 4.5 stars

This was completely new to me, which is wild given my love for this era of British pop and rock. I really enjoyed this, some of the more Stones influenced stuff was just ok (Movin On Up, Damaged) but a lot of great tunes here.

An album and band I've been meaning to check for a while because of their association with Kevin Shields of my bloody valentine. I usually like British psych and this is no different. The endless psych/dance grooves here are a joy to listen to. An album that would definitely be improved by being high while listening. 8/10 Favourite: Come Together Least Favourite: Inner Flight

wasnt exactly sure what to think going in, and I'm happy to have experienced the album this way. Movin' On Up sets a great bar that the album reaches a few times, but I'd have to say its more hits than misses. Fantastic background music too.

Better than any Moby album out there! Not every song hits but when they do…!

Screamadelica – Primal Scream (1991) | Psychedelic Rock / Dance-Rock | Avg: 7.52 | Favorite Song: “Movin’ On Up” Screamadelica is an album that feels like a rave filtered through a gospel lens, and your scores suggest you appreciated both the vibe and the variety. “Movin’ On Up” starts things off on a high note, setting a euphoric tone that carries through much of the project. With most tracks landing comfortably in the 7 to 8.5 range, it’s clear the blend of psychedelic textures, house beats, and blissed-out melodies hit the right balance for you. The production is immersive without losing structure, and even at its most spaced-out, it rarely loses direction. What’s interesting is how consistent the mood stays despite the album pulling from so many genres. Whether it’s the dubby grooves of “Higher Than the Sun” or the gospel-tinged “Come Together,” there’s always a pulse driving it forward. The lack of filler is impressive too—interludes aside, nearly every track seems to serve a purpose. Screamadelica isn’t just a vibe album; it’s one that knows how to stretch that vibe across an entire runtime without wearing it out. It’s spiritual, it’s danceable, and it still feels fresh.

Really good album, band named made me nervous it was going to be screamo. 8.1/10

I think this is one of the best pure psychedelic projects of the 90s. Well it has some of the best moments. There are some moments where the band tried to do EDM stuff that I did not like, as well as generic pop rock. But the tracks where it shines, shine bright. I was thinking potentially a 5 but there were some dud tracks.

Great vibes with some cool tracks. Not quite a 5 but def a 4.

Started quite strong, but I got a little skeptical with Don't Fight It, Feel It. Thankfully the back half of this record is quite strong and my favorite part of the record. Will keep revisiting to this, has an opportunity to grow more. 4/5

200/1089 - Cool sounds. The second half of the album wasn't as strong as the first half (more same-y). Mellow dance music is kind of an oxymoron but it was neat to listen to.

Banger

I feel like I went into this album with the wrong expectation. Off the top, I'd seen that, among various other genres, it'd been labelled as acid house, alternative dance, dance rock... "OK," I'm thinking: "this is some kind of electronica-type rave album. That's the lens I should be viewing it under." And that's just what I did for about half the album, until after "Come Together" I had to stop and ask myself: "Why **do** I like this so much?" I'll be upfront, me and electronica haven't exactly been the best of friends lately. After getting so many recently, I had to wonder if I actually liked the genre or not. I mean, even the stuff I was in favor of was very... Vibes-y and atmospheric, but not enough to where it could be full-on ambient music. At the same time, though, it didn't feel to me like it had enough going on to feel like full-on dance music either, so I was left in this odd middle ground wondering what kind of people would honestly sit down and listen to this stuff and nothing else. It seemed like this stuff either belonged blasting at a rave, or in the background of some puzzle video game — and I don't go to raves, and I usually mute video games in favor of my own music. So I had to wonder: what **was** it about this album that made me like it so much? Where even the most electronica of electronica tracks on this thing couldn't really pull me off of it. I really couldn't figure it out. I even went back to the William Orbit and Underworld albums my group had gotten and sampled them to try and find out, and it just wasn't clicking with me. Really, it wasn't until I saw this one review on the website where it all started making sense to me: "'Inner Flight' feels like 90s PET SOUNDS [...] with acid house production." Oh. Oh. Ooooooh. That's the problem! I'm thinking of this as an electronica album first, when, really, it's an **indie rock** album with dance- and house-inspired production. Y'know: it's Madchester. Or Baggy, unless there's a difference, I don't know. Either way, that's where it all turned around. Once I started taking this in mind as an indie rock album first, I started enjoying it way more. Now, I'll tell you, I haven't been the biggest fan of indie rock either. I was not able to enjoy any of the **THREE** Arcade Fire albums that were on this list. However, I guess it turns out that once you throw a shuffling dance beat under them, I'm all for it. Like, gawd, **these** are the kind of vibes I'm all in favor of, honest to goodness. I didn't very much like "Inner Flight" the first time I heard it, but, yeah, understanding it as a PET SOUNDS-type instrumental first, it's great. Like, there really is just so much good stuff on here. I particularly wanna highlight "Loaded", which I already knew I liked thanks to the film THE WORLD'S END, but it's such a damn good **groove**... And with that trumpet sample on top? Wowie! And actually, actually, my favorite two songs on here are "Movin' On Up" and the Farley mix of (not the Beatles song) "Come Together". Is it because they're the most pop sensible songs on the entire album? Well, yeah, that's a very good reason (I'm amazed "Movin' On Up" was never a single), but on top of that, gaw**damm** the gospel vocals are **so good**. They're the best part of the entire album, swear to goodness. And... Yeah, I'unno. Takin' it as a whole, it's jus' a good ol' slice of Madchester. Very fun, very groovy, very lively... I wouldn't tell you that I was all **that** blown away by this album, but at the same time, can't think of a thing I wanna complain about... Except for maybe a few spare moments where it gets a bit **too** electronica? Like, 'coz of those couple spots, I'unno if I'd full-on call it a masterpiece, myself? But all the same, I can't deny how much I overall enjoyed this album. In fact, it might've kind of helped me like those William Orbit and Underworld albums just a hair more, so, hey, I gotta give it all the dang props in the world for that. That ain't nuthin'. Soooo, yeah. Solid thumbs up for me. Good show, lads. Now, if you'll excuse me y'got me in the mood to watch THE WORLD'S END again, so...

I’m at a 3.5 that I think I’ll bump up to a 4, though I’d prefer to leave it right at a 3.5. Brian Eno-esque ambience, Rolling Stones-esque indie rock, a little bit of George Michael’s production style & early ‘90s house instrumentation, all thrown into a blender with a bunch of other genres & just seeing what comes out. It’s a weird formula, but for some reason, I think it worked. This is not an album you sit down with headphones in and close your eyes and actively engage with, given the amount of tracks that spin their wheels for a while; it’s one where you throw it on in the background and just do stuff to. With that said, it’s produced like an album that you’re meant to pay attention to, with some solid lyrics, vocals and some decently layered (if repetitive & slightly long) instrumentation throughout. Your ears will perk up at all the soundscapes, and how effectively the blending seems to work, even with the length & repetition of this thing. In a way, I did enjoy this one a lot. It’s a great album to listen to, but it’s such a paradoxical album to me. Why am I enjoying something that’s so technically proficient, yet designed to play as nothing more than ultra deluxe room tone? For once, I just don’t really have an answer. I can look back throughout my little notes I had on this thing, but they’re all just complimentary of the vibe, even through the repetition. A lot of these tracks evoke sort of a “Freedom! ‘90” vibe to me, including the blatantly shameless ripoff that is “Loaded” – just listen to that chord progression & then sing the chorus in your head. It is a 6 minute enigma comprised mostly of that chord progression and some random synths throughout, yet because I enjoy “Freedom! ‘90” so much, I just didn’t mind it at all. Seriously, what the hell gives about this album? It’s not like I enjoyed the whole album either – there are definitely ones that bounced off of me like “Don't Fight It, Feel It” & “Shine Like Stars”. Yet, for the most part… I dunno, I guess it really is just all in the vibes. That’s the least satisfying conclusion I’ve ever come to about an album, because I’m normally really good at pinpointing why something works for my tastes, but this album has sort of broken my brain. I’m glad it has, don’t get me wrong; it’s a nice album. It’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, and I’m sure a subsequent relisten will have other tracks that totally bounce off of me. It’s just gonna bother me that the answer really is just “the vibes”. So, uh… yeah, I dunno. I guess it’s a 3.5 that I’ll bump up to a 4. There’s no bad tracks, nor bad vibes, and everything is just hypnotizing enough to feel smooth & groovy in the moment, even if it does sort of mentally fall apart after the fact. I guess this album is sort of like having a bunch of vanilla ice cream with different toppings on every track. It’s good ice cream, it’s good toppings, and it’s enjoyable. It’s just hard to believe vanilla ice cream could be that consistently enjoyable. In this case, I guess it was for me. I’m satisfied with that analogy.

7/10 - I liked the first song and some of the other ones. Not a fantastic album but pretty good

I really enjoy about 70% off this album the rest is not for me, I think it's about 15 minute longer than it needs to me. That's just my opinion and I know some people love it and fair play to them.

Light alt-rock with some psychedelia influence. "Movin' On Up" near perfect summer jam.

Not all of it was my kinda music but I liked the majority of it

Fun and weird
