Boring. Too quiet

The title of the album is very misleading. Lazer means sharp and to the point. There's no doubt there are melodies. Strong ones at that. But not lazer guided. Sounds very much like the Stone Roses. And that's a good thing.

Though there is some adventure and grindiness in across the tracks, for the most part it is pretty listless and atmospheric without really sinking hooks into the listener. I think it is interesting, but not too engaging for me.

I didn't know dream pop was a thing until this album, but an aptly titled genre. Space cadet dreamy background music. Not bad, but not what I'm looking for when I listen to music and I can say with the utmost certainty that I will never listen to this again. (Unless perhaps I'm tripping on acid or something!) Waffling between a 2/3.

Wow un peu long peut-etre, mais je n’ai pas deteste. Certaine tounes mon fait sourcille mais c’est tres transcendant et spirituelle comme le nom l’indique. 3.0 je suis bruler apres cette ecoute.

I like the wildly schizophrenic dynamics that flung most songs between acoustic and quasi-symphonic passages. (7/10) Favourite Tracks: Step into the Breeze, If I Were with Her Now

I liked it a lot! Great kinda spacey psychedelic dream rock. Probably excellent for watching the rain on a cool morning.

Cool sounds but not much cohesion. I previously listened to their Ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space on here and I think I preferred that to this. This attempt becomes more background noise and although relaxing in its ethereal sound it doesn’t have much to sink your teeth into. Lyrics are definitely set back to the music and are easily missed. Somewhat of a video game soundtrack at times. If I were with her now, run, 200 bars

Starts out rough with meandering tracks searching for a plot, but comes into its own strongly on the back half with gazey, domineering guitar parts and strong psychedelic overtones.

This band is the reason I wanted to listen to this 1001 albums list. Never heard of them before now I am a fan. Love the sound. 4/5

Wow. I have never heard of this band or this album before but I'm 2 minutes in and I think I'm hooked! I thought it was going to be a dance album by the cover... Well, this has just been an amazing experience. I have fallen in love with this album and discovered a genre I didn't even know existed known as "Space Rock". This album has been added to my high rotation.

This album was just too samey but enjoyable at the same time. I think I need to sit this with more I feel like this album is more of a grower tbh. 5/10

Great album!

I liked this a lot! The album name suits the sound. Overall it just calms your mind very well, I didn't really listen to the lyrics but they seemed to match the music!

I was expecting to be required to endure an hour of obnoxious noise, but I’m 3 tracks in and pleasantly surprised. It ended up being all alright album if the mood is right (relaxed)

Chill, lush album. I definitely think Spiritualized got better after this but it's a really solid debut nonetheless.

What a treat of a lovely record. I have always loved Spacemen 3 but for whatever reason I hadn't given Spiritualized a good enough shake. Absolutely blissful repetition, building, and then instead of a climax it is a \"whooosh\" inside my brain. I can't wait to listen to all their other albums too, but I'm gonna give Lazer Guided Melodies plenty of time to grow on me, this thing has gorgeous depth.

I've always found spiritualized as good ancillary music. Something you can have on, without it demanding your attention.

Not for me

Lacks variation in style, lots of repetition and drones. Made for a pretty boring listen

Seems like something I would have listened to in ‘92. Kind of like a heavier, trippier combo of Mazzy Star and Yo Lo Tengo.

A master class in mediocrity. Lacks substance. Or, as Pitchfork.com puts it: "...feels almost weightless, an astral take on the blues that seems to drift by on cosmic winds. It’s one of the most gentle rock records of its time, with spaced-out guitars and rolling bass lines tenderly nudging Jason Pierce’s vocal melodies along like a weathered stone rolling slowly down a hill."

Very slow, mellow, and psychedelic. Only tracks that really stuck out to me were Angel Sigh and maybe 200 bars.

I also enjoyed this album quite a lot. Despite being "one of the greats", I don't enjoy LaGWAFIS, but Lazer Guided Melodies feels like a whole different vibe.

Spacey chill rock - a bit out there for me. Wouldn't go crazy listening to it but likely won't repeat.

Lazer Guided Melodies, Spiritualized- 7/10 “You know it’s true” and “if I were with her now” were both fantastic in terms of production, and both utilize a brilliant use of panning that keeps things interesting. But they somewhat lacked the sort of structure that I enjoy. “I want you” is a much more upfront, massive sounding stadium rocker that I really quite like. “Run” I feel slightly brings to light that the vocal performances so far haven’t really been anything spectacular. “Smiles” is slightly disappointing because it builds up this concept for a minute and a half then just fades away right when your ready for it to crescendo. “Step into the Breeze” has the same problem; as soon as the song starts to get interesting it just ends… “Symphony Space” is really just sound rather then music, and I am reviewing music, not ambient sounding noise. “Take Your Time” is decidedly eerie sounding with these somber guitars and Jason’s almost whispered vocals. It almost sounds like the soundtrack to a midnight walk on another planet… “Shine a Light” sounds like it’s straight from another dimension and is a little longer then it needs to be, but hey, it’s definitely interesting. After all the previous mellow sounding songs “Angel Sigh” really slaps you awake with a killer guitar riff and powerful drumming, but again is a little long winded and overstays it’s welcome. Maybe I’m just tired, but “Sway” really almost had me falling asleep, and again right when it got good it just ended. I feel “200 Bars” is hypnotizing my ears in a way, and it’s quite strange. Conclusion: Spiritualized really created something unique here, and if the future sounded like anything, this is prolly what I’d imagine it to sound like😂 It’s like U2, The Cure, My bloody valentine, and Beach House had a giant futuristic baby in outer space. And I like it. 7/10

liked this more than I thought, and it does interestingly capture some dreamlike element in the music. But the album kind of trails off into haziness, feels a little one note, and ultimately I got bored. [Track 2] actually showed some life, but I have a hard time imagining myself listening again to this album or any particular song contained within. That’s the reason for the lower score.

Another album of which I was completely unaware, and liked more than I expected to. I particularly enjoyed "Run".

Not my jam, didn't interest me

Had me feeling some type of way on my walk, but really nothing THAT interesting. Not particularly memorable at all

че-то похожая ситуация с предыдущим альбомом. сперва бомбанул даже немножко, ибо вообще-то к жанру спейс-рока отношусь более чем положительно, и надеялся на годноту со стенами звука и няшной лиричкой. и как-то разочарован был, когда какая-то околоуныль началась. ну типа блять, альбомы Hum, Failure, да даже ранних Muse в подборке не представлены, а это говно есть. вообще все сильнее с выбора авторов начинаю гореть. но потом попустился немного, сложил 2 и 2, и все-таки прикинул, что это скорее я спейс-роком считал пост-хардкор и прочий тяжеляк со спейс элементами. а чистый комик-роцк, вероятно, такой и есть - немного ленивый, торжественный и атмосферный. но все же сказать, что полностью зашло не могу. отчасти из-за иногда проглядывающей скуки, отчасти из-за кринжовейших текстов. прогнал все ж не без удовольствия, думаю под настроение будет вообще на кончиках пальцев, но пока сильным фанатом себя не чувствую (хотя, как оказалось, у меня даже в аудио какая-то их песня с другого альбому была). склоняюсь к той же семёрке, может опосля вся эта тема во мне вырастет. 7/10

Скукотища вперемешку с душиловом. Если наушники надеть, хоть бы можно работу со звуком заценить. Концептуально мне вроде бы нравится, Дрим-поп там, Спейс-рок, подбор инструментов, композиционные решения некоторые. Но реализация скорее не доставляет. В один момент как-то вовсе задушился, что аж парашу ёбнуть хотел. Но не, что-то приятное мелькает порой, хоть и не настолько, чтоб с интересом продолжать слушать.

Psychedelic, Brit-Pop, Electronica, this album has it all! I had never heard anything this early in Spiritualized's discography, but I'm glad I got to experience it. Hoping "Ladies and Gentlemen..." is on this list somewhere too.

Hazy, dreamy record with beautiful melodies. So ahead of its time!

As background music during work I quite enjoyed it. It was relaxing, pleasant and the slight "space-sound" touches made parts of it interesting too. Still as pure background music it's not interesting enough for a 5.

Very much overrated band. Didn't enjoy their live shows either. This album will not stand the test of time.

I don't remember this band from the 90's. Their sound is inoffensive but doesn't stand out to me as particularly unique, but maybe they were back then? They fit squarely into shoegaze for me, and certainly have a timeless quality that carries on with newer bands like Tame Impala. I don't think I'll remember much from this listen and don't expect I'll revisit the album.

For me, Spiritualized sit in an otherwise empty musical box in my head marked “The Verve meets Flaming Lips”. The only album of theirs I’d ever owned was ‘Ladies and Gentleman...” which if I’m honest with myself I bought as much for its critical acclaim and its giant pill packet packaging as I did the music. Don’t get me wrong - I like the music. It just never really manages to hold my attention as much as I feel they deserve. By chance they were one of the last bands I saw live before Covid put a stop to all that, but I think I got lured away half way through by the smells wafting over from a Lebanese food van. I enjoyed this album but I know in my heart of hearts I probably won’t be going back to it very often.

First I compared it to the Stone Roses, but after reading a little about the band I could get the Velvet Underground vibes. Underwhelming overall, decent background music!

This album showcases all of what I love about Spiritualized and Spacemen 3 - the droney, hazy, extended musings, usually built around one major chord. Very pleasant both as background and also as a focused listen on headphones. I think I prefer this album to "Ladies and Gentlemen..." which sounds a little more dated at times.

There’s like zero chance this list wasn’t created by a British journalist, right? Anywho, this album feels at times like it was made by more than one band. The band that does the slower, quieter stuff (“Shine a Light” and “Angel Sigh” in particular) is the band I like. The band that sounds like they’re just trying to convince everybody they do a lot of drugs is the band I could do without. And whoever decided to put that freak glitch out at the end of that one song is a meanie.

Loved this - reminded me a lot of Slowdive (one of my new favourite bands, new to me not a new band). Chilled and kind of psychedelic. Will listen again

I'm a massive fan of "Ladies & Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space", but I haven't listened to this album much, which seems.... weird. It's got all the elements I love. I think I just need to spend more time with it, so going into my third play through now... Fave track - "Take Your Time", at the moment, but there are a couple of other contenders... I really don't know why I never got into this album as much as "Ladies & Gentlemen..."!?

3.5 | De ver la descripción del disco y el nombre esperaba algo distinto, algo como EDM malviajado, pero en realidad esto fue como un fondo bastante pop mezclado con ambiental y algo de rock ruidoso. Ahora que lo reflexiono me recuerda demasiado a Sigur Ros. Me agrado bastante y tiene suficiente influencia de ese noise rock como para darle definición a las canciones. De hecho las canciones que son mucho más "convencionales" me sonaron de fondo a The Verve bastante. If I Were With Her Now en particular me agradó mucho con esas gaitas y ese sonido industrialoide repetitivo que me recordó a KMFDM. Hacia el final del disco los motivos quizá se empiezan a repetir un poco de más, el ambiental empieza a dominar y se vuelve un pelín demasiado etereo; aunque todo este cambio se siente intencionado y es parte de lo que hace que se sienta como un album de verdad pensado y estructurado. Una música agradable, más accesible de lo que parece cuando se escucha de inicio (de verdad en el fondo se oye britpopera). Un album bien hecho, se siente en "ciclos" y, aunque quizá no todos sus ciclos sean de mi entero agrado es algo que podría volver a escuchar para poner más atención y seguir analizándolo un poco, incluso si no es lo que usualmente busco poner.

Clever but just too mellow for my tastes

The two songs I liked were mostly instrumental I didn’t much care for the voice. Space rock isn’t much my thing I like Explosions in the Sky but that feels more ethereal is that the word than spacy?

La música es compleja, muchos arreglos y rica en sonidos aunque a mi gusto a ratos raya en lo aburrido. Subiste Atmósferas interesantes que al final no llegan a más, que supongo es el punto del disco, género y grupo pero terminan por hartarme. 2.5 estrellas que bajan a 2 porque no lo volvería a escuchar.

Un disco muy interesante: música electrónica de los 90's muy diferente a la que comunmente se asocia con esta década: eurodance, house, etc. Aunque en general el disco es "chill" y tiene canciones muy relajantes, del estilo de "Cigarrettes and Alcohol" como Sway, también canciones energéticas como Run. Es un disco muy agradable y fácil de escuchar, o de utilizar como fondo para trabajar (comprobado al menos 3 veces).

No le veo sentido que esté siquiera producido

Un disco completamente olvidable que casi pasa por música de aeropuerto como la de Brian Eno, pero peor, en el sentido que Spiritualized sí tenía intenciones de hacer algo más que música de fondo. Consigue la segunda estrella porque al menos no es algo tipo noise que me haga sentir que mis oídos estarían mejor en otro lado.

Sounded like a sad but feel good indy movie soundtrack. Good relaxing music, just didn't vibe with it.

Spacey and gorgeous. Spiritualized albums exist in their own galaxy, orbiting a lonely planet inhabited by disembodied creatures longing to make physical what exists in the aural realm of these tracks. I may not always be in the mood for the ethereal vibrations the music provides, but when I am... damn.

Not too bad, probably an album I would want to listen to a few more times to really appreciate. It didn't stand out on my first listen.

Maybe 15 years ago I would have been interested in hearing this at 05:00 on a Sunday morning but right now it’s not the album for me.
