Reviews (page 7 of 8)

I felt like some of the songs were just a result of someone having their own studio and seeing how much they could spend while noodling around. There were one or two songs that had some good ideas, but ran them into the ground. ("Take Your Time," "Shine A Light") And then there were other songs that seemed like there was an idea but no one wanted to develop it ("Smiles"). It wasn't bad, but there were so many editing problems (there was no baby bear song, every song was too long or too short. No one song was 'just right'.) I can't give this is a positive recommendation. I didn't hate it, but the producer really needed to say something. NEXT.

Fine to listen to in the background. Nothing great, nothing bad, just ambience

I don't really get this. Some of the sounds are cool, but I find it difficult to enjoy listening to (maybe that's the point?).

This is my second Spiritualized album. I should be the exact target market for this and yet im still not finding anything that gives me a way into this. It seems to just float past sounding well done, but lacking anything to make it stand out. All fur coat and no knickers

A lot of this album noodles away with little direction but all the hallmarks are there that would make Ladies And Gentlemen...such a great record. Given that Kate Radley is on this record, it's slightly ironic she left Pierce (and the band) for a relationship with Richard Ashcroft. His/ (The) Verve's record A Storm In Heaven is what this record could have been.

Didn't grab me I'm afraid!

Like Ladies and Gentlemen, there are some moments, but the rest is too repetitive with no or little development. Ambient background music at best, nothing really rememberable.

Honestly didn’t finish this album. Probably did about 75 percent, but I did not like it. Too ambient. It’s background music at best. 2

Overall, it was just some weird background noise. It wasn't unpleasant but it didn't really feel like much of anything.

Run is pretty good except most of the lyrics are stolen from a Lynyrd Skynyrd song. Maybe could've come up with their own lyrics since it's not really a cover. Just a different song with stolen lyrics and the rest of the album is ambient and soothing but ... snore.

This would be fine music to fall asleep to. That being said, this was boring and made me sleepy.

I won't waste as much time reviewing this album as I did listening to it. I found myself drifting off to sleep while listening to Laser Guided Melodies, which could be a good or bad thing. It was relaxing, for sure, but engaging, impactful and essential, not so much. I guess, this is what you would call Dream Pop or Space-Rock, which perfectly describes the sounds and it felt like I was listening to the soundtrack of the NASA channel. "Airy" and "gentle" are some of the words used to further describe the music, it's interesting at times, but if I want ambient breezy sounds, I'll go outside....and warning, do NOT drive or operate heavy machinery while listening!

Nothing to rave about here except this could put me to sleep. Need to remember that.

This is #day44 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... ladies and gentlemen, I'm floating in space!!! Oh, wait. That's a different album. But still, I should be kind of floating... Right? Well, I thought I would die sooner than I finished this album. I like some dream pop and shoegaze, but this was way too fucking much of nothing in particular. If it was meant to make me feel high, it didn't succeed because I feel low. Perfect prescription to your annoyance. This is a 2 out of 5. Looking forward to #day45.

Album didn’t do much for me

Strong acid-laced jam band vibes here. I felt Phish concert vibes more than once. The biggest problem I had was that multiple tracks felt exactly the same as they faded away to nothing. Fun to discover that Spiritualised came about when Spaceman 3 broke up, but not that much fun.

To my own fault I can’t truly even remember this album too well which is funny because I just listened to it but maybe that’s a sign. I feel like it had potential to be cool but that’s where it ended and I would never pick this to listen to.

overwhelming reaction while listening....: GET ON WITH IT!!!! 2 Spiritualized albums (...at least...) this far isn't necessarily a travesty of any kind, but is it necessary? Almost like a more soporific and boring Stone Roses. At first I'm thinking I do like it better than their "big" album ("Ladies and Gentlemen...") but there's still an utter lack of developed songs. Like they hit their "cool" spacey vibe and never deviate - take the song "Run" for example. I don't need to describe it - you know when you hear it. song was about 3 minutes too long and it's only 4 minutes. This is their inherent problem. ...I take it back, it's *not* better than their future album - it's the same meandering sound palette that you might hear in a modern art gallery or while doing goat yoga. this is going nowhere. It's frustrating because in one sense it's close to being really cool but in another it's nowhere near close - existing a goddamn galaxy away from well-constructed - or even constructed - popular music. ...re-evaluating my early comment: it WILL be a travesty if there's a 3rd album from this band on the list. 3/10 2 stars.

The slower, spacier side of dream pop (aptly dubbed "space-rock") was never a genre I could get behind. The sleepy reverbed vocals, and void soundscapes are pretty, sure, but they make for a less-than-engaging listen overall, especially when the albums drag on. Unfortunately, as much as I've heard about Spiritualized, this debut effectively sums up all my issues with the genre. The vocals especially are too damn sleepy for my liking, I honestly enjoy this album when it plays into more of its ambient tendencies, like on my favorite track 'Symphony Space' which has no vocals on it. This one song feels more otherworldly than any other song here. I also enjoyed the noise guitar against the cloudy back-drop closing off the song 'Shine a Light' - it was one of the more dramatically dense and cinematic moments here. Again, this album's definitely pretty and I did find myself getting lost in its soundscapes, especially near the end. It's just the song structures, writing, and performances here left me wanting a lot more by the time I was finished with this thing.

Underwhelming. Supposed to be atmospheric but I didn't feel it, so maybe my mood is to blame

You better run, shine a light… kuin lainailtaisi sanoitukset muualta. Eka biisi taas lupaava, sitten mennään tylsäksi ja aivan liian pitkäksi, levystä sais parikyt minuuttia pois helposti. Se on kai mun ongelma näissä utuisissa poprocklevyissä aina, en vaan jaksa vaikka ainekset on lupaavat. Kuitenkin parempi levy kuin kansi antaa ymmärtää.

The Soup Dragons were more popular.

What an unbelievably boring album. I actually forgot it was still on, and that's while listening to it in the car

Not sure what the hell I was listening to for an hour. I’m pretty sure I could’ve died never listening to this and would have been just fine. But oh well, the last song was cool.

Kinda similar to the last album I heard on here. Sounds like a soundtrack in search of a movie.

Why are these coming up again? Preferred the other album, this one was about one third primal screamy bassy rock and two thirds ambient droneyness. There were snippets of half interesting stuff but not enough take any of the songs to a reasonable level. Not 1 level terrible but underwhelming.

Ladies and Gentlemen... was pretty great; this is naff. It's pretty clear where they condensed and clarified their sound - too many turns down meaningless alleys, too many never-ending fades, emphasis of noise over melody. I get they are known for this, but the album is unrefined. For my #500, overall, rather disappointing. Tuneless signing works when the background stands out.

Bit of a struggle to listen to. I've heard plenty of similar music from other bands, but it's a genre where the music either clicks with me, or I can't be bothered to listen to it anymore. It was the latter for me. Fun album art though.

Interesting, but boring

Abit too slow for me, without the unique feel to their other album on this list. I don’t need a track where it’s just spacey noises.

Is this Shoegaze again? I should learn to be suspicious when Apple Music just labels an album as Alternative. This is, for the most part, boring and too long. It had a few moments where I wondered how it would sound if they were awake and lucid. Was "Run" a mashup of Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Velvet Underground? It was probably the best track. I'm listening to the last track now, thank goodness. Is she just going to slowly count all the way to 200?

It's not terrible, but it is boring. I'm not really in to super spacy music like this. It seems best suited for just laying around listening to music and doing nothing else. I don't do that, so for me it's just boring music that I ignore.

put me to sleep (figuratively) but in a bad way

Needed spirits to get through this one.

Definitely not my style. It all sounded the same, and was boring.

This experiment failed.

This wasn’t BAD but it was very boring. Nothing stuck out to me

It feels a bit derivative but I can't tell if it's where this sound originates and many imitators came after. In theory a sound I like, but I would like a bit more dynamism and action, it is a bit too mild. I am bored half way through, I don't think I am enjoying it at all. All the songs last far too long without anything really happening. 2.5

Maybe good if I was high.

The cover art and the name of the album had me very optimistic that I would love this. I do not. I tried to listen but pretty soon I started doing something else too because otherwise it would have become sleeping at my desk music. It's pretty but there's no there there.

It was okay

On the perfect line of never wanting to turn it off, but also never feeling a modicum of emotion or excitement.

Absolutely not for me. "Run" was pretty good though.

Album was kind of boring. Nothing was that interesting. 2/5 Won’t listen again

92/1001 🌕🌕🌗🌑🌑

Although I have enjoyed Spiritualized tracks before I found this a hard listen. The tracks seemed to blend over each other and I was wanting some change and development. Thought the first track was best

Repetitive, uninspired version of Krautrock mixed with 90's pop rock.

Low key almost jangle-trance. Don't remember any of it.

Good to rest to. Probably wouldn’t listen otherwise but the cover of call me the breeeze was interesting.

I really like Ladies and gentlemen we're floating in space. This album feels like a stepping stone to that one.

After the third song, the rest of the album felt like one loooong song. Got pretty boring.

Very forgetable. His voice fades into the background. Not unlistenable but not for me.

Tunnelmallista ja hidastempoista kevyttä rockia. Siis tosi rauhallista. Laulaja ei kauheasti korota ääntä. Yksi kappale ihan ambient. Vähän ehkä puuduttavaa. Parhaat: Shine A Light, Sway

One Spiritualized album on this list seemed fair enough; two seems excessive. From what I’ve heard they’re a bit style over substance (i.e. not much in the way of memorable songs). Though to be fair it’s a pretty good style, and a few of the later tracks did suck me into their hypnotic space soup. I like the album art, too. Not enough to round up from 2.5 stars though.

songs all sounded pretty similar- it would be a nice album to listen to on the beach perhaps

This was mostly pointless. I kept forgetting I was listening to it.

Boring as fuck and too long. 2 stars for Run and the the 2nd half of 200 Bars.

So disappointing after listening to Gentlemen we are floating in space which is a masterpiece.

Weird. chill lounge music. idnt hate it. but I can see why it needed a gimic to se;ll. the music alone would not do it

Couldn't get too into this (at least in a single day), felt like a no man's land somewhere near early 90s rock and shoegaze.

Should come with a warning sticker saying "only listenable if you are high"

Proto space rockstars or not this album does not deserve a place on this list. A most average album where the most charitable thing you can say is that nothing stood out. Give me some passion. Give me some flaws. Give me something. I sort of felt something during "I Want You", but it quickly disappeared. After enduring nearly an hour of droning, the last track "200 Bars" just seemed like someone taking the piss with their cheeky counting. I would have given it a rating of a 1, but it was engineered and mastered well. A boring record that probably spawned a bunch of the boring brit and "dream" pop of the nineties. Pitchfork, Melody Maker, Rolling Stone, Spin; you can all fuck right off. This stuff is terrible. Dream pop the sound that is coming from my ass.

Kind of dull. It was hard to tell when a song ended and a new one started unless I was fully focused on the song at hand.

Firstly: Oh God why? On the other hand: do you like a single pad note slowly raising in volume for 50 seconds straight? Do you like whispering and nothing different than that? If the answer to either of these questions is yes, boy do I have the record for you! The sad part is that in here there’s a great rock album with a stellar production and solid riffs, but they just said fuck that, we’ll whisper over the whole record while rambling about random stuff, and while we’re at it, let’s also add random fucking intros and outros with 2 minutes of tension that we’re never gonna resolve. I wanted to give this a 3, because really, great riffs man. Then i got to the song “200 Bars”, which literally is just a guy counting numbers, and in good conscience I can’t go higher than 2. Still salty about the vocals though, what a waste

Mellow spaced-out indie guitar like a less noisy version of My Bloody Valentine.

Rating: 5/10 This album has moments that are very beautiful and a few great songs but most of it is very forgettable and extremely boring. Favorite songs: You Know It's True, If I Were With Her Now, I Want You, 200 Bars. Worst songs: Smiles, Symphony Space, Take Your Time.

Not very good. Boring.

The sleepiest album I've ever heard. Not sure what the splooge people on the cover are dancing to - certainly can't be this record. A more apt design would have been cum-people tucked into bed.

Two albums by this band? Woof.

This feels very ahead of its time, especially as this is from 1992 and I feel like Tame Impala just put this album out last year. Not really my kind of music is all.

Very vibey. But some times it was too vibey, didn't think some songs merited going on and on for over 6 minutes. Not my taste.

First track was pretty disappointing. I'm not into sleepy stuff usually. There are some interesting ideas on the following tracks, "If I were with her now" in particular. But honestly I didn't find this album very compelling even if its probably someone's favorite. I think I had the same impressions when I saw them at Sasquatch.

trying to be so sonically impressive but ends up being nothing at all in the end. like it's so ethereal it's not music any more. didn't enjoy

Production feel way more modern than 1992 tbh

Struggled to focus on this despite 3 listens. Seems fine.

It was cool as background music, I guess

Standard Brit pop/ shoegaze album. Heard better…heard worse. Average at best.

It's boring AF and no amount of noise of distortion can help it.

Perhaps not the right moment to listen but didn’t really enthrall me.

I love a lot of trippy music, mainly from the 60s and 70s. When Wikipedia called them a space rock band I was excited to hear something like Hawkwind or early Pink Floyd. Instead this album was far more boring than that. There were some cool sounds, but they usually dragged on too long without enough meaningful change throughout. It was often more of an ambient album than a rock album. Very disappointing Maybe I should try listening with a good set of speakers for the full effect

this is doing nothing for me. background

wasn't as terrible as the other album from these jokers but I didn't like it

Had some interesting moments, sounds and ambience but not amazing

Forventa meir elektronika-aktig shit, men va visst bare kjedelig shoegaze

Maybe it's that I expected something electronic based on the artist name, album title and its cover, but this is... Somewhat off-putting and not all that great. It's pretty bland which really keeps it from a 1, because I probably wouldn't even recognize it if I heard it again.

I love shoegaze & dreampop, but that was about he most boring version. Lazer Guided Mediocrity is more like it. 2/5

Good background vibes - concentration music

Album 245 of 1001 Spiritualized - Lazer Guided Melodies Would do as background music. Nothing special to report here. Didn't suck to excess. --------------------------- Lazer Guided Melodies is the debut studio album by English space rock band Spiritualized.

I found this album to be one where I just couldn’t connect. Even as background music, I found it to be something that didn’t move me. Not for me, 2/5.

Dream pop. Un rollo. Un 2. Casi un 1...

Not for me

Mediocre

Droney, surreal yet approachable, intriguing. Also, Repetitive, muted, and kind of uninteresting. I feel like this record's music is maybe better for drug-induced live performances. I'm sober and sitting at my desk so maybe there's a contextual issue here? I did like "I Want You". I'm just kind of bored with the sound. This isn't some 1960's band trying to think about what the first moon landing is going to be like and making a sonic score to that. It's spacey as a negative. 2/5.

Didn't do much for me

Okay as background music I guess

Floaty airy boring

AJ: got through 5 songs. They made some good noises but it’s really not for me at all. I Want You was pretty ok but I think that’s mostly because the title made me think of Cat. And Bob Dylan’s I Want You, so then I listened to Blonde on Blonde.

A lot of basic two chord vamps. Background Muzak.

Some was OK but the Space action was not working today

After hearing over 900 albums I’m really over the Brit Pop shoegaze space rock scene. I thought their subsequent album, Ladies and Gentlemen was quite mediocre and this is even less enjoyable and like I said, I’m really over this sound.

Sleep inducing but in a pleasant way. Would work miracles on a long haul flight with some noise cancelling headphones. 🎧🎧

slow ZZzzz

Ok so the album flowed very nicely from song to song, and i get the feeling it would be better if I was on whatever drugs the band was on when they made it, but I didn't enjoy it. It was slow and soothing, bit in a sleepy way not a calming way.

Didn't seem that special

- Heard Ladies and Gentlemen before but not this one - Thought I would've enjoyed it more so a bit disappointed - Thought it was a bit bland and forgettable, but maybe it would grow on me if I listened again - Nothing really stood out

zzzzzzzz

Dragged and droned throughout. Didn't click with me.

Dream pop. Un rollo. Un 2. Casi un 1...

This is the epitome of background music. Nothing really stood out to me and I have no desire to revisit so it's a 2 from me dawg

Background weird music

Boring. Dull. There are plenty of good ambient albums and this is not one of them.

3 in the context of this project, 1 in the context of all music. It was interesting and well thought out, I just kind of found myself waiting for it to be over

The album title feels appropriate. Got a half decent sound, but the constant droning on the electronically adjusted vocals is a no from me.

Weird but not awful.

Annoying

There was a total of one song I enjoyed & this album as a whole got under my skin for some reason

The musicality on this album was great, it's really too bad that it was so boring. Best track: You know it's true

spiritualized's lazer guided melodies was overall interesting, but eh. i was surprised it was released in 1992 when it has such a modern sound. spiritualized did create a very ambient album that was relatively easy to listen to. i was surprised when there were vocals on these tracks. the vocals weren't bad but they didn't add much. the focus was on the actual music in the end, and the vocals could almost be distracting at times.

This was enjoyable enough, and it was incredibly ethereal and ambient. But it may have been too much so, as it just didn't do much for me. I didn't feel like anything stood out; it was just background music for me. Again, this wasn't bad. I wouldn't really seek this out again, nor did this inspire much commentary, nor do I feel like it really adds much to this project, so I'm ultimately feeling pretty indifferent while rating this.

Our second from this group I believe, and after two albums I'm not sold. The last was much more enjoyable for me. This one isn't bad, but it feels pretty aimless for me--ironic that this one feels more like it's floating in space as opposed to lazer-guided with the melodies. Most of it whizzed by me pretty nondescript, and then there was a stretch of three songs I enjoyed quite a bit. Maybe a little Stockholm syndrome at that point, but yeah, overall, it wasn't much. Not good, not bad. Pretty sure I'd axe it from the list. Favorite tracks: Take Your Time, Shine a Light, Angel Sigh. Album art: Actually quite cool, some liquid metal people dancing in nothingness. Is it supposed to be against a white or black background? I like the black better. 2.5/5

meio xaropinho

Joutavaa skeidaa

Unimusaa. Ei toiminut työpäiväajoihin.

Bad alien music

rather spacey. reminds me of Klaatu back in the 70's.

An absolute snooze fest. This entire album is almost just background ambiance. I'm extremely close to giving this a 1 but I think that unlike some other albums that I'm sure I'll give a 1 when they come up, the album could be left on in the background and be at least an inoffensive listen.

Space-rock, drømmende, afslappende

Fine, a couple of songs were fine to listen to but I found that it got to be too much as the album progressed. Probably a good change of pace and change of style to pop a song in in here and there in a playlist.

Started pretty good and then went weird and long and repetitive.

Musical mush, the last few tracks are kinda interesting but I look forward to never listening to this record again.

Forgettable Psych Synth Rock.

I don't know if I was having a bad day yesterday but I really wasn't feeling this album at all. The production and sound were fine but I could not focus on this.

No gutó

very forgettable

I really dislike spacey, weightless, meandering songs that are 6+ minutes long.

Nothing really here of note

Not offensive, so it has to be higher than my 1-star albums, but it was also incredibly boring, so it can’t get more than two.

Is this the most boring album we've listened to so far? I think so. Don't think anything interesting musically happened the whole album.

Found this very boring and wasn't into it at all. I don't get the appeal. 2/5

I almost fell asleep during the first track and it sounded like the singer was too. The album becomes a lot more interesting as it goes with some good atmospheric moments and production choices, but it didn't consistently grab me.

Was expecting a lot knowing their later stuff but this was just confusing

Absolute snooze - merely background noise. 4/10.

If I wanted to listen to space rock, I'd go to space. I can't help but think the aliens on the cover are Anorexic Batman and Shelley Duvall with bigger tits.

For an album with that title I guess I was expecting more ... melody. Thus I wanted to like this, and I can hear that the performers are no amateurs, but sadly, this album didn't vibe with me. 2/5

Áhugavert bakgrunnsflæði. Ekkert sem heillar upp úr skónum samt.

Unique sound... not sure I will listen to this again...

Just OK

Hmm another super niche British album that really had no discernible impact or influence anywhere else in the world. Most of the time the music alright but the singer sounds like he's mumbling to himself in his sleep, and a lot of the songs blend into each other. Definitely, nothing "wow!" here but more tolerable than the other super lame stuff on that often comes up on this list.

It's alright

Couldn't get past the second track. Does nothing for me at all.

I was into this album at first but I just got bored of it by the end. It had a cool spacey sound but I think it ended up being relatively lame in terms of slow rock like this. It also didn’t help that I started to space out the album while I worked on other stuff. Fav song: if I were with her now

Was barely aware when the next song came on. Lead singer phoned it in for most songs. Def not added.

Sounds like a fairly generic 90s low key album

I didn't know dream pop was a thing until this album, but an aptly titled genre. Space cadet dreamy background music. Not bad, but not what I'm looking for when I listen to music and I can say with the utmost certainty that I will never listen to this again. (Unless perhaps I'm tripping on acid or something!) Waffling between a 2/3.

Mood music, nice if doing something else I guess.

Cool sounds but not much cohesion. I previously listened to their Ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space on here and I think I preferred that to this. This attempt becomes more background noise and although relaxing in its ethereal sound it doesn’t have much to sink your teeth into. Lyrics are definitely set back to the music and are easily missed. Somewhat of a video game soundtrack at times. If I were with her now, run, 200 bars

Simple and smooth, just not my taste.

I don't use psychedelic drugs. If I did, I would probably be able to appreciate this more.

Not for me

Lacks variation in style, lots of repetition and drones. Made for a pretty boring listen

liked this more than I thought, and it does interestingly capture some dreamlike element in the music. But the album kind of trails off into haziness, feels a little one note, and ultimately I got bored. [Track 2] actually showed some life, but I have a hard time imagining myself listening again to this album or any particular song contained within. That’s the reason for the lower score.

I really liked the first little bit of this, but it sank into the background after a bit. I couldn't key into what my man was singing on and on about and the music is pretty good in the background, so there it stayed.

Not my jam, didn't interest me

Couldn't work out where this album was going. Not my sort of music

Very much overrated band. Didn't enjoy their live shows either. This album will not stand the test of time.

I don't remember this band from the 90's. Their sound is inoffensive but doesn't stand out to me as particularly unique, but maybe they were back then? They fit squarely into shoegaze for me, and certainly have a timeless quality that carries on with newer bands like Tame Impala. I don't think I'll remember much from this listen and don't expect I'll revisit the album.

It’s just not my thing.

2/5 naaah didn't like it

First I compared it to the Stone Roses, but after reading a little about the band I could get the Velvet Underground vibes. Underwhelming overall, decent background music!

Coñazo. Rarito. Pretencioso.

Eh, it was fine. Glad it's over. Spa music.

forgettable chilled spacey tunes

Clever but just too mellow for my tastes

The two songs I liked were mostly instrumental I didn’t much care for the voice. Space rock isn’t much my thing I like Explosions in the Sky but that feels more ethereal is that the word than spacy?

Slow and boring

Sounded like a sad but feel good indy movie soundtrack. Good relaxing music, just didn't vibe with it.

generico

a change of pace. not really sure why this is on this list

Didn't like this one too much, the mixing has the vocals too low, all the songs are unremarkable and sound the same

kinda boring

Eh. Very little to recommend it, TBH. There were a couple of tracks that were alright but they're outnumbered by how many were just a pointless mess. Not impressed.

Might be good if I was trying to take a nap

Sales - 10,000 copies in 3 years! On what planet is this album even relevant let alone one of 1001 you MUST listen to before you die?

Really takes a guy back to 900 albums ago, hearing Spiritualized for the first time. I gave it 2 stars. What the hell was my problem? What was I thinking?

Because of their name and album title, I’ve been under the impression they were an electronic group, even though I knew Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci opened for their Haçienda gig and they’d be a terrible fit if Spiritualized were. I was surprised by what they actually were. 200 Bars is the only song I really liked on here and it was the last one. A lot of this goes on for way longer than it should. I kept feeling these tracks would be a cool moment in an album that doesn’t sound like this the whole way through, but when it’s the whole album it does nothing for me.

I wasn't high enough for it

Like their other album on the list, I can see that they're going for a slow, relaxing, hazy vibe but most songs completely ruin that with obnoxious and annoying noises interspersed with the quiet parts. There are moments when it really clicks but just as often it makes me question why I'm doing this.

This is the first album I kept wishing would end. There were no songs I liked from it. For some reason they over mic-ed the percussion so strange things sounding like drops of water or those …c*** things that are wooden columns? They were just too loud and upsetting. And it was boring aside from those points that made me jump.

Man this is sincerely a huge disappointment. I really loved the last Spiritualized album that came through (ladies and gentlemen). And I think a big part of that is that the ladies and gentlemen album has more of a psychedelic shoegaze feel. Where as this album is more traditional shoegaze. And my hot take is that shoegaze music is empty. I just don’t care for it at all. It’s just so melodramatic and boring. Even the one song I ended up saving, ended up not being as good on replays, and I actually unsaved it, which I almost never do! Seriously this album is just a clump of wet toilet paper, useless and messy.

Definitely a very unique, ethereal sound. Fav song is ‘If I Were with Her Now’.

A whole lot of ambience, but in a long, drawn out way. Rating: 2/10 Favorite song: 200 Bars

I could've happily died without listening to this.

Just when I thought the previous day's record was the most boring piece of nothing I would hear for a while, this album said "Hold my beer." Spacy stoner music with nearly no structure or actual music. More droning than the Ukrainian air force. What little lyrics there were were just nearly inaudible sighs. Every song also went on FOREVER; maybe trim this shit down, man, we don't need every track to be seven minutes of the audio equivalent of Sleepytime Tea. What a worthless waste of time this listen was, in the words of Lex Luger, "I'm pissed now!" Spiritualized will hopefully take the hint and stop making music after they enter the Hall of Shame and become my nineteenth 1/5

oh no.... nothing to really care about on here...

One of if not the most boring album I've ever heard. 60+ minutes of abstract droning soundscape does not a good album make. No idea how this album made it onto this project

Lazer guided crap.

The best thing about this album is the cover art. I recognized it from my CD collection. Didn’t recognize any of the music though. Another of the hundreds of albums on this list that, when released, had a mildly interesting, cutting edge sound, but zero musicality behind it - no virtuoso performer, no engaging songwriting. So, 35 years later, when the sound is no longer interesting, there’s nothing left worth hearing.

What the crap.

The album didn't speak to me. It was not necessarily bad however nothing drew me in. For me personally it was boring.

Wann soll man denn sowas hören?? Langweiliger geht fast nicht!

I saw another review mention they heard The Jesus and Mary Chain in the album thank you other reviewer for helping me pinpoint exactly why I didn’t like this I love a good vibe of an album even more than the next guy but the instruments are barely doing anything, the vocals and lyrics actively detract from getting into it, and I kept waiting for it to be over

Is this music.

Is it the most “fuck me, what pretentious cunts did that crap” album in the entire list?

Strange music, strange sound.

i'm sorry but this kinda sucks.. it sounds like an alien's first attempt at making human music fav song: If I Were with Her Now

The most boring thing I’ve ever listened to

Very meh

This one was not it.

not my type of music. a lot of ambient sounds did do well in a loud enviroment.

- ei oikee lähteny

Trippy, gentle and atmospheric or bland, boring and sleep inducing? I won’t be revisiting it.

Extremely boring

I remember Spiritualized were darlings of the English music press in the 1990's. I didn't understand then and I don't understand now. Songs start, songs end. And nothing happens inbetween, apart from repetition, usually in crescendo. Many of them are overlong, but even the shorter ones seem to drag on forever in endless repetition. Laser guided torture. And that bland, nothing voice. Dull, pretentious rubbish. Frustrating to have to give it even one star.

sounds like if pink floyd only kept in the boring bits

Well I belive there are some people who might find this piece of dog s enjoyable. On the other hand I know people who enjoy cereal with water and I think that both those opinions are equally wrong

I was so incredibly bored by this album. It took me multiple days to finally finish it bc I just could not bring myself to put it back on. The overall vibes for okay ig, just so boring.

No thank you majin bu

Incredibly dull music

I don't like it

Slow-burning, narcotic textures built from droning guitars, organ swells, simple repetitive rhythms, and vocals delivered in a distant, weary murmur move this space-rock album like drifting through a dimly lit tunnel where the lights blur into streaks—hypnotic in motion, yet numbing and isolating the longer you stay inside.

If this list didnt suck before it does now.

Listen, when I see this listed as things like "shoegaze," "indie," and "dream pop" I know I'm not going to enjoy it. But still I tried to go into this with an open mind, and honestly it was worse than I expected. Bland and boring. Songs were too long. Almost everything sounded the same. Could have died having not listened to this and would be just fine.

Complete ass. This sucked. I don't even know what this music is or what it's supposed to be. It just sounds like it wants to be a lot of different things...at one point, it's trying to be the Beatles, the next it's trying to be some sweeping soundtrack to a movie's crescendo. The vocals are lukewarm thin gruel. The songs don't go anywhere, they just meander. The guitars are just mushy and indistinguishable. Symphony Space is just a mood noise mess that's not interesting at all. Really, I've made the promise to myself that I'm going to listen to the full albums no matter how much I hate them but this is pushing my limits. I don't get why this album is on this list. I mean, I listened to Dark Side of the Moon the other day and that's absolutely fantastic. One of their lesser known works is Meddle, which is absolutely fantastic and probably my favorite Pink Floyd album out of all of theirs. And I don't know why that doesn't make the cut over something like this. It's a vastly more interesting album and a vastly more talented band...even if it's not as well known as Dark Side of The Moon or Wish You Were Here, something like that deserves a spot over whatever this is.

I really didn’t like this. What’s the point of it? Plodding, overlong tracks that don’t ever go anywhere. I’d imagine the lead singer thinks his vocals are psychedelic, but he just sounds like a breathless, incoherent fool. Begs belief that this is on the list where more coherent and interesting groups like Gomez aren’t.

Boring, and not in a fun way.

Not bad...Just unremarkable and boring.

Guide a laser into my eardrums

n curti, muito paradao

what if we made Pink Floyd but like a lot worse??? was LSD a pre-req for this to be an “album to listen to before I die”? not sure I get it

Boring, slow, repetitive, and uninspired. "Essential" albums shouldn't sound so lame that I could have recorded them in my basement without any musical experience or skill.

Not only does the crap not belong on a list of "musts," it doesn't belong anywhere. Cut out the garbage, weird, obnoxious, and stupid is just weird, obnoxious, and stupid, not something one needs to hear. 0.00

Sleepy as shit

Disappointing

# Album Name: Lazer guided melodies # Artist: Spiritualized # Rating: 1/5 # Comments: Absolutely terrible. jesus, what did i just listen to. Definitely need to be high AF for this. I was not. # Top Tunes: # Would I listen to it again? No

I don't know if there will ever be a day when I enjoy this, but it's really pissing me off today.

Sounded like a soundtrack, to what I don't know.

More like Lazer Guided Piffle. This is the most yawnsomy, bleary hour-long pile of whatever I’ve encountered yet on this list. I can’t bring myself to call it Space Rock or Dream Pop, I’d instead have to give it blank spaces in regard to genre descriptors. After listening to this I feel about as spiritualised as Steve The Extremely Serious Atheist at the world’s most serious atheist convention.

Way too trippy Would’ve loved this in my partying days, but not now

Lame as fuck

woah, ok, very spacey feeling, good for background white noise. Otherwise, don't like it

ah...shoegaze...i see.. Conversation that never happend: A: Hey let's listen to that song symphony space again B: oh hell yeah that track is so awesome A: yeah and it has the perfect length

Another boring album taking up a spot on this list that could have been filled by an actually good album.

Boring, bland, forced myself to listen to the full thing. Upon further research, realised it was the guy from Spacemen 3 and I hated that album when it came up too.

Yawn. No thanks. 2.

Nobody really has to listen to this crap. Its a zero for me

Like Oasis or Stone Roses but very boring and no grit.

The first song is a 1-4-5 chord progression, the most common in Western popular music. Second song is a 1-4. Third song is a 1-4. Fourth song sounds like a 5-4-1. Ok, the songwriting is crap, got it. How about the singer and band? Middling and lousy. An amateur production all the way down. I wondered why I hadn't heard of this album. Now I know why. Lazer Guided Turd.

Boring, can't finish it

Great album to listen to while on drugs. Probably. 2/10

1 star for taking up space on the list that a real album could have occupied. And for a stupid band name and album name. And for a dumb album cover. And for being tiring to listen to.

Ewww not another one. 1.33

What is this?

Belongs in outer space. Far, far, away.

maleeeeeeeesemo

did-not-listen

Better than hip hop, but still a genre low point. Not my style

What on Earth is this? The genre is so-called space rock. What is that? Definitely not for me.

Unknown band for me. Too weird and repetitive for me to the point of annoyance. I listened to most of the album with reluctance.

The kind of music I expect to hear when I'm on hold when they clearly want me to hang up.

Weird music with tons of noise and repetition. Pass. Best song: I Want You

When listening to this all I could think of was what I would rather listen to. That can't be good...

Also known as “Lazer Guided Melodies (But the Lazers are pointed directly at your Eyes)”

Nope. Weirdly slow. Slowly weirder. Ultimately, weird and slow.

Aural wallpaper! Pretty but forgettable.

Its like boring soundscapes that should be found in a museum exhibit. But there's no interesting visuals to go with it.
