Very interesting and different instrumental choice!

At times ethereal and spacy, at times just kinda whiny rock. Sounded like Khurangbin run through U2. Not for me.

Really need two Spiritualized albums on here huh. I can at least understand it in that I can see how this album would really resonate with people. It doesn’t do that with me but I get it. It’s completely acceptable music. It sort of sounds like Stone Roses but more boring, which is not what Stone Roses needed. It’s just kind of another distillation of Brit pop.

Blir nojig av cannabis tyvärr. Borde nog gett den här en lyssning till men lättjan tog över och drev mig till Erykah Badus trygga famn istället. Föredrar kantslag framför rymdambient. Baduizm: 5/5 Rymdrock: 2/5

After listening to something like this, it really makes me wonder if there even is 1,001 albums if this makes the cut. Absolutely NOTHING inspiring about this. Just so boring and mediocre.

Background music & entirely forgettable.

Wasn’t for me

Very slow and ponderous. With enough drugs and time, I imagine it would be great to indulge in. Why use jizz figurines as your art work, stick people have been around for years?

Pretty dull. Inoffensive

Big old zilch here. As per usual nothing all that wrong with it per say but I got nothing outta it. Just a waye of an hour. The nail in the coffin was the closing track. 200 bars is just a lady counting to 100 then they write an actual song for a bit and then she says 200. Im happier with that thay just counting out the 200 measures but only slightly. Like its pretty at times but the count from sesame street didnt need a feature. That was the only memorable moment the whole time so I guess thats it. Fine enough but not for me

Background music. It was repetitive and not engaging at any level

Boring and it goes nowhere.

Just kind of washed over me, preferred his later records.

Pretty meh album. I did really like Angel Sigh, I thought that was super beautiful. But everything else just fell a bit flat to me. Kinda feels like a full album of lo-fi, which is fine but like… it makes this list?

This mostly just dragged on too long. I wouldn’t say it’s terrible by any means, I can appreciate some ethereal sounds here and there, but it didn’t seem all that significant to have made the list. Somewhere between a two and three but I’m rounding down.

I almost liked this in a few places, but then they'd do something to ruin it, add another instrument, whine a bit, etc. They're trying to hard to be all mystical and profound it makes me want to laugh at them. You can easily spot all the things they want to be, oh that's a Rolling Stones attempt, oh that's like Temu Beatles, oh Ian Brown wants his voice back. A very annoying album.

Honestly, I found it pretty dull. It's like The Stone Roses with added electronic elements and minus the playfulness.

One should only ever have to listen to so much electronic ambient sound. This exceeded that.

A bit. Slow A bit samey

There’s a couple good tracks here but mostly it sounds like a dude who couldn’t be bothered to make his own album. Whispered lyrics, overlong simplistic instrumentals. I hated this dude’s other band represented on here, and he certainly didn’t need more than one spot on this list.

Good but not my vibe I don't think but I like the pacing and backgroundness of it?

Slow paced and spacy. Shoegaze-adjacent. This one mostly bored me though. Nothing really stuck with me and the back half is a slog.

Well that was a slog

It's a bit too ambient and doesnt quite progress how contemporaries would go on to do. This seems like a stepping stone to radiohead that is now just outclassed.

This was a whole lot of boring soundscape that was maybe inventive at the time but has been done much better by countless others since. We've already had one Spiritualized album and this one is arguably worse. I can appreciate floaty, layered rock music, but it has to do something unique or eventually build to something like post-rock, but this really does neither. Maybe they were pioneers in the sense that nobody was making that kind of music in 1992 (which is not really true - electronic artists had been doing it for decades), but it hasn't aged well. I think the last quarter of the album had more to offer than the first 9 songs, which I couldn't tell you anything about despite just having listened to them in the last hour. The final four songs are a bit more upbeat and have more volume, if nothing else, than the rest. Angel Sigh might be the pick of all of them. I don't know, their other album wasn't good but at least it went somewhere. I say this as someone that enjoys ambient music, but this lies somewhere between pure ambient music and pop music without doing much of either properly. At least it's not offensively bad.

Inoffensive shoegaze, but that’s about it. I don’t feel like this album did anything that really stood out to me. It just kind of happened, and I moved on and I’ll probably never think about it again after today. 2.25 / 5

Not bad as background music, seems like it'd be painful to listen to actively

Space rock... I judged hard with just the first song of the album. I never heard of Space Rock before, so I didn't know what I was getting myself into. This is....well the first song was putting me to sleep, but then it just got weirdly atmospheric. Yeah, I don't think I can vibe with this...it's too....left field.

Just kind of ambient music? I liked this more than the other Spiritualized album that I listened to from this list but it managed to evoke almost no feelings from me.

This album sold 10,000 copies in the United States in 3 years - that sort of put this into perspective. Wonder how many of the 10,000 people regretted buying this, I would have. Just there and not the interesting. I had to finally look up what the style was - space rock?!? - I think navel gazing crystal deveining would be better classification.

I liked this debut album fine from Spiritualized. I felt like most of the album was pretty ambient and monotonous which led me to be kind of bored while listening. Overall, I thought this album was fine but it didn’t keep my interest the entire time. I’m not sure if I would listen to this again but I could see why some people would like the ambient space rock vibes of this album.

Let's just say not my cup of tea

It’s fine for background noise, but as for active listening it’s a little boring. I’ll say 1.5 and round ip to 2 stars since it wasn’t actually annoying but there is nothing I’m going back to here.

Eh, it was fine, but I'll only remember the album name and not the music.

Thought this started as a chill listen. But by the time we got to Step Into the Breeze, I was kind of checked out. Next two songs didn’t help. So I kind of slogged through after that. 2.5

Different. Not horrible

Sounded like a less-engaging BJM or early Dandy Warhols to me?

Of all the overrated 90s British bands that Dimery likes for some reason, this one is the most overrated

This just wasn't very interesting to me.

The whole album feels like a slow buildup to a climax that never hit.

One song was enough & I didn’t even dislike this. Every song had the same exact progression. I could have listened to just Angel Sigh & got the whole thing

Confusing, bouncy, and I probably wouldn't have this on my rotation. It is reminiscent of the airiness of road trips, and the dreaded turning point where you are as far from home as you'll be, and you are only at that point returning.

Day 11: Best tracks: 5/10.

Meh. Nothing wrong with it, but it’s just instruments and vibes, nothing remarkable

A bit boring for my tastes, other people may vibe to it

Vähän tyhjäksi jäävää taiderockia.

This music is tailor made for an emotional montage in a movie. Doesn't even seem like it's for listening. Enjoyed their sound on a couple tracks, but it really is like ambiance music, sad nostalgia.

Spiritualized feels like a more hazy, less focused, and yet somehow maximalist companion band to Radiohead. I can see what the band was trying to do but it grated my ears. I quite liked "I Want You" though. However, do check out their 1997 album 'Ladies and Gentlemen we are floating in space' with a similarly minimalist cover. That is a more realized version of what this album was trying to be.

Boring

Spacey, dreampop-meets-britpop kinda vibes

Rock, Pop, getragen, 1992 -> 1-2

Really floaty and dreamy sounding, but kind of boring. Almost put me to sleep while driving

Space noise. Silly. Last couple songs almost redeemed the early nonsense.

I was open to this, no preconceptions, but it didn't do it for me. Some gorgeous synths and a moody atmosphere. No doubt because it was 1992, the songs themselves were a bit Manchester-sounding in their vocal arrangements, melodies and chords (despite the band hailing from, er, Rugby) but sadly, they lacked the dance factor. It was bit like the Stone Roses crossed with Pink Floyd, but only the very dullest bits of each. Disappointing.

Yeah, this is not it... could be the genre, as it not my cup of tea, but this quickly became background music as the album went on. Nothing inspiring I could pick up (for my taste, obviously), and not a single memorable moment. It's music, I guess. Did not like this one at all.

Scuzzy, but nothing new. 8am on Monday morning wasn't the best time to take in all the thrills. Will revisit after a couple of shandies.

This one was not made for me. Very long, very aimless, not sure it accomplished the grandeur that it was trying to. 1 is too harsh because there’s some great effects and ideas and soundscapes but I wouldn’t ever listen to this this on purpose ever again.

No strong feelings bout this one, spiritualized would to much more interesting stuff later anyway 2/5

Jako čudan album, ima svega i dosta sam zbunjena. Od nekog lošeg rocka, do krauta, psihodelije, nemam pojma šta se tu događa. 2/5, 4/10

maybe I would have liked it more if I was on shrooms

BOOOOOORRIIIINNNNNG. I like shoegaze but this didn’t do it for me. It sounds like something I would like but the execution did not hit home so I didn’t finish this one.

a softer rock album very spacey kind of sounds like background music some songs are too long with little lyrics

What a great nap I just had.

Let's be honest, it's a bit shit isn't it?

Weird. J'hésite entre 2 et 3. Ce n'est pas horrible mais ce n'est vraiment pas mémorable. Je suis surpris que ça fasse partie de cette liste.

I gave this another listen, just to be sure. And now I am. As of right now, this is the album I have the least thoughts on. It's just there. I don't hate it, I don't like it, I didn't hear anything new or interesting or good or offensive or emotional or annoying or fun or... anything. It's just... there.

Чисто в музыкальном плане - неплохо, можно даже сказать - хорошо. Но мне не понравился вайб и настроение

Not for me but some were interesting. Way too long though

this took me like 2 weeks to finish im sorry its so boring

They got a little too lost in the ether, I think.

lazer guided not interesting to me

Songs to sleep zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Some good, a lot of meh

I'm not saying this bad, but just not my cup of tea. Why are there so so so many English groups on here that really provide nothing to the overall concept of this list? 2/5

Ihan ok, ei lähtenyt koskaan täysillä. 2/5.

I guess this is one of those albums that is 5 stars on certain substances, like Phish or Stars of the Lid. Sober, I don't get it.

I cannot recall ever being this bored listening through an album. I really don't know what makes this worthy of the list.

Spacey shoegaze for the sake of being spacey shoegaze. The writing and production were at least competent but any emotion I was supposed to feel was overwritten with boredom

There's not much here, really. It's not terrible, it just doesn't do anything for me. There's barely melody.

Lots of 90s music just isn’t it for me.

Чесно - мені нудно від цього альбому.

Ladies and gentlemen, we are lukewarm on this album. It's like an analog ner'd wet dream at a Guitar Center.

Boring. Not awful, though.

Too warbly

Didn't really care for this

It’s quite an achievement to make an album that you can listen to for an hour and have absolutely no memory of what you’ve just heard. As the final track finished, I genuinely struggled to recall anything about it. I guess it’s 60s psychedelia through a 90s shoegaze lens, with bits of ambient and drone music thrown in. In theory this should be right up my street, but it’s not quite as good as the bands that it tries to emulate - there are nods to the Velvet Underground, the synths from 70’s Who and Hawkwind, and possibly a bit of Brian Eno, but it never quite gels. It’s billed as Space Rock but it never gets much beyond a disappointing sub-orbital flight.

Showgaze bore-athon.

I bit tedious if I’m honest! I bought …floating in space when it came out and tried many times to get into but never could. It’s all a bit one dimensional and yawn, boring.

Going blind into another album let's go. Opening track starts with a slow soft sung love track, heavy on the keys and reverbed clean tone electric guitar very easy listening, transitioning into heavy digital effects towards the end of the track. 2nd track picks up the BPMs a bit, big distorted guitar chords, the use of almost whispered lyrics add to it very nicely. There's a consistent echoey type effect with the vocals that really contrasts with a mixture of funky basslines and high end drumming. The album bounces between these two paces making it fairly consistent album overall. Overall it's a fairly easy listen but not an album I'd revisit anytime soon, it's not bad but it's not exactly grabbing me in any kind of way. 2/5 MTW A proper throwback to childhood for me - minimalist rhythm and dreamy vocals. I didn't realised how stoned my dad was for most of the 90s until I was WAY older. Whenever anyone tries to talk to me about shoegaze I just mention Spiritualized and then run away, so I will admit this type of music isn't my bread and butter and I'm not overly qualified to speak on it. You can however hear the influences a lot of bands since have taken from this record in particular, i.e. Radiohead (Tracks 2 and 6), The Verve (track 4), Arcade Fire (most of the record) to name a few. I find LGM to be a very up and down record, with a lot of tracks taking too long without presenting enough meat. It is bookended excellently though by my highlight tracks being the opener and the closer. 200 Bars has the right balance to it and ends the album on a high with a hopeful feel, positive guitar and a still-awake vocalist, against all odds. 2.5/5

This mind numbing barrage of one bassline and sound throughout the entire album was exhausting. So exhausting I may need nap. I firmly believe that repeated listens could bring on a spontaneous coma that I might never recover from. I'm going to need to kick things up to 11 after the coalescence of melancholia and despair that this album exhumed.

I thought this could be a 3, but it just starts to grate on you.

Boring noodle-y synth stuff

Space-Rock? I was expecting them to sound like Hawkwind, but they're more experimental, and have a with a Horn section! Meh!

Not my cup of tea.

not a fan

Not for me

Interesting mix of melodies.

This is really long and kind of just drifts around. I tried twice and mostly zoned out and didn't notice it either time. It wasn't awful, but it was forgettable and I don't know why if I could only hear 1,001 albums, that I'd pick something forgettable.

This sounds like a great version of whatever this is. I'm not sure why it is important for it to be on this list. A little too formulaic at times, which makes it sound like variations on the same song concept.

..who enjoys this?

*Kind of like if INXS but with absolutely no cool parts. *Fine background music, but pretty boring and sometimes just annoying. *Looks like Wiki described is as English space rock, which seems accurate. But light rock. *Meh. *Don't hate it, but very unsure why this would make any top album list. RATING - 4/10

Boring.

i just cant get behind shoegaze but thats just me

kinda boring a little weird too

OK I've not been about but hey! These are playing tramlines! I don't know that they're my kinda thing but they're on the main stage before pulp so I'll most likely be seeing them This seems decent but I find it so hard to concentrate on this sort of thing I'm on like track 8 without noticing. I recognise Shine A Light. I have nothing else to say. Getting a bit boring now maybe I need to revisit this on drugs at 1am

A solid album. Had some very cool, trippy passages and some nice crescendos. Some tracks really drag on, though, but overall pretty decent listen.

Symphony Space goes really well with the breeders opener from their album Pod. It is so damn calm that when it up the tempo it feels so refreshing, but that is not the norm. So I feel bored, why is this album an hour long Lets count up the numbers for the final track I'd say 2/5 for If I were with here now, but the rest of the material did not stick with me. Album art looks like some semen aliens floating in space or something.

Hadn't heard of this group from Rugby before despite being into alt-rock/shoegaze, but seemingly it's because they're not that great. This album was fine, low mood methodical, but lacked oomph. Seems to not be one of their bigger albums either.

Odd album to be included here. I feel like albums like this get made all the time. Talented but with an outside flavor. They don't get any traction so we never here of them. This one was pretty slick but it didn't lean in a direction I prefer. Maybe I just couldn't meet it where it lives this day.

There were times in this where I thought, "you know, this isn't so bad." Then there were more times where I couldn't help but think, "this really isn't that great, is it?"

Nothing special

Never understood the hype around Spritualized. And I still don’t

This was so bad I had to take a break halfway through, and I almost never do that. So repetitive. Every song was so long and went absolutely nowhere.

This is a little weird and too long, but some parts of it were OK.

Too boring to be a one

This is so very repetitive, and dull. And it’s repetitive. It’s also dull, and repetitive. I do think it is repetitive, though, and dull.

Boring

A band I never really got into apart from a handful of songs, Run in particular on this album. There were much better Shoegaze/Dream Pop albums around in 1991/92. Ride - Going Blank Again, Lush - Spooky and Slowdive - Just For a Day to name 3.

Oh boy... Never been a big fan of shoegaze and the amount of navelgazing on this album is astounding even by those standards. Going to finish but just got to Symphony Space which is more like a waste of space. I know there are people who like to trance out to this kind of music but like at least do it to something with more interest beyond the surface. No, I am not dismissing the layers upon layers of production on each of these tracks. Those exist but like that's 101 atmosphere. Where is any harmonic movement? Where is the dynamic contrast? Where are the motifs, calls and responses, or polyrhythms? There's more than 5 minutes of music on every track, pay me off with something! Happy to put this away and go back to Sigor Ros. There is something meditative to Spiritualized but I did not need to hear this before I die. Note after finishing the album the piano at the end of Take Your Time and the horns in Angel Sigh are more what I'm looking for. The whole project is still lacking for me though.

Well, that was soporific. More like Lazer Guided Lullabies. But not awful or anything. Really 1.5 stars.

I never really got on with this band, even though I feel like I should be into it. Maybe the sound is a bit too droney; not enough for me to latch onto. Some cool textures throughout, but nothing stuck with me.

Not my thing. Never really liked Spiritualized much. I can see what there is to like, but I can’t grab it.

Well 2 is a bit too low but a 3 too high. It's a bit bland but the textures are ok. Turns into background/elevator music fairly soon.

It's not an unpleasant listen but it never demands or even requests your attention. It just is. There's nothing exciting or interesting. Very "background."

Totally forgot this was playing in the background. A snoozefest.

This was just a bit boring for me.

Very boring. As low a 2 as I can give

What is this? Light rock, some tinges of psychedelia. Bit of electronic. Britpop ish. Kind of bland, ambient almost. Really starting to drag around the halfway mark Reminds me in parts of Tubular Bells Best track - Angel Sigh

I really enjoy ambient/instrumental music but this felt like it was always floating with no resolutions. I got bored. Moon Safari is a great example of when instrumental music similar to this can be really good

had another one of this one but I liked the other one more

I was able to sit through it but didn't find it interesting and I wouldn't want to hear it again.

way too ambient for a long car drive. i did not hate this to the degree i hated the other Spiritualized album on this list, but it was not for me.

yeah alright sure man

Not sure why this was here, sounded a lot like U2, the other one we've gotten from this band I think was more unique?

Had it on in the office for background which it is suitable for

I.had never heard of Lazer Guided Melodies before listening to this album. The first half of the album is more interesting to me as the second half is much more meandering. It's not offensive in anyway but also not worth listening to again.

The songs all seem to be going somewhere at some point. They seem to be building up to a bursting point but they never get there. I'm sure that's the intention but it's not for me

Not for me.

Very atmospheric but boring

Space rock. I listened to the album and that’s what I did was space out and not pay attention to anything the album was doing. It’s very minimalist and very minimal attention grabbed by this album. If you played snippets of any of the songs I couldn’t tell you if they were from different songs or the same song. Maybe if I got stoned I could get behind it… not for me.

Never heard it, never heard of them or seen this cover, weird since I was in my early 20's and knew everything and saw everyone. There is NOTHING on this album that I would deem as a must listen. It's so vanilla and average that I forgot I was listening at times. I don't hear influence, I don't hear hits and I don't hear a reason to listen to it twice. About as compelling as Stone Roses, just wandering pop with zero hooks or guitars or stellar vocals. Blah... If you like this drivel try the Jesus & Mary Chain, they took this sound, added hooks, made it rock and you could sing along. I was so hoping for a gem that I wasn't familiar with. 1-2 stars for being good background music but this bordered on boring with the second half being utterly useless filler.

Eeesh. Pretty weird. Actually kinda hard to listen to for me, just too abstract :/ Fav song: Shine A Light

every song feels like a journey, but not in a good way. I swear I thought some of these tracks were 10 minutes each at some points but they really do just drag and repeat ad nauseum. I give them points for originality and coming up with some cool sound here and there. But overall its just up its own ass, its definitely the favorite album of the most insufferable music lover you know. Its all build up and no payoff.

So this is what edging feels like!

Very dreamy, ethereal almost. There's some cool synth bass and drums spots, but I don't really care for the real shoegazy stuff. The few tracks I liked had cleaner vocals and felt the more traditional/alternative rock stuff spoke to me. It was fine, felt a little repetitive at times and was that a legit 5 minute transition?

The album title AND cover gave me false hopes. Thought we were in store for something weird. Decent shoegaze/dream pop....nice enough background music for spreadsheet navigation, but nothing I'd really seek out or play again.

2 stars. Sounds are great but not for me. Maybe I hate shoegaze,

Started off ok but just drones on and on, I don't see what is remotely compelling about this 1.5*

Some of the tracks are quite good, but this drags in places

naw too boring. point for being competent I just don't like it

Lazer Guided Melodies flits between utterly boring and quite captivating. Predictably, I quite like the tracks where it gets loud and heavy, like I Want You an Step Into The Breeze, but much of it just wastes my time and is musical nothingness to me at least. Doesn't get good enough often enough to warrant more than a 2.

This was fine - nowhere near as good as Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space. It gets very meandering in places, particularly in the second half of the album, and it really does feel like it drags. It's an hour long, and I was very done with it after 40 minutes. Don't think it merits a 3 really, so 2/5 it is.

This was okay. I thought it was pretty innocuous. Nothing jumped out at me as good (or bad). It was kind of like background music. Something i could listen to while working and not have it be distracting.

The first album I've heard from this list that should like it was written to accompany something, rather than as actual music to pay attention to. It's like a sound bath. Expecting song structure and meaning is a mistake. It's all atmosphere for your drug trip (I guess), although unless your psilocybin is providing the variety, not an adventurous one. Only "Shine A Light" tries to go anywhere and would be the only track I wouldn't mind hearing again. But this is mostly a major-key, knuckle-dragging thoughtless hour-long slog bent on robbing you of IQ. Its single-mindedness of purpose is worth a star, I suppose. I'm not very far into this journey and there's already been three 90s euro rock bands, and zero Beethoven or classical of ANY kind. Hell I'd take "Water Music" over more Britpop! And before you get all weird on me, I was IN a rock band in the 90s....

It starts out strong but then it feels like the further you get into the album the songs are all the same

A bit drab, not for me

Definitivamente, no es mi línea ni mi disfruté. Gracias, pero NO

A reasonably decent sound, could listen to this driving around and it wouldn't be distracting. But in the end it's just clichéd shoegaze.

Not my bag. Decent song writing, just kinda boring.

these guys pressed record and just stood around in the studio

Made it through, but didn't like it.

Some might describe this as calming—I’d describe it as eerie and droning. I get why people would be into this, but it’s not my cup of tea. Best song: Run

Extremely boring, but not in an annoying way.

Found this one even more boring than "...floating in space". Peasant background noise, but nothing very memorable except for Shine a Light.

Poor man‘s R.E.M.

There is a fine line between atmospheric dream pop and elevator music. Unfortunately this sits on the elevator music side of the spectrum for me. Not this it sounds "bad", but it doesn't do more to me than to merely "exist". Could have been AI generated if it wasn't from 1992.

Cool name on an album, but that was almost the only positive with this album. On paper this should fit me very well, but it just doesn't catch me. 'Shine a Light' was a good song, but the rest just passed me by without leaving any impression. They have a good sound, but the songs are just very... boring? Lacks some punch as well.

I read my review of the previous Spiritulized album we had nearly 2 years back. There is was pleasantly surprised fearing another "90s-oasis-type-band". My fears were answered with this album. I found it was introspective and quite boring. Not sure if I liked the previous Spritiulized album better due to me being in a different headspace (or younger?) but this really wasn't my jam. "Angel sigh" was the only track that stuck out. It had a quite nice melodic part that made me think of "Explosions in the Sky".

I felt like some of the songs were just a result of someone having their own studio and seeing how much they could spend while noodling around. There were one or two songs that had some good ideas, but ran them into the ground. ("Take Your Time," "Shine A Light") And then there were other songs that seemed like there was an idea but no one wanted to develop it ("Smiles"). It wasn't bad, but there were so many editing problems (there was no baby bear song, every song was too long or too short. No one song was 'just right'.) I can't give this is a positive recommendation. I didn't hate it, but the producer really needed to say something. NEXT.

Fine to listen to in the background. Nothing great, nothing bad, just ambience

I don't really get this. Some of the sounds are cool, but I find it difficult to enjoy listening to (maybe that's the point?).

This is my second Spiritualized album. I should be the exact target market for this and yet im still not finding anything that gives me a way into this. It seems to just float past sounding well done, but lacking anything to make it stand out. All fur coat and no knickers

A lot of this album noodles away with little direction but all the hallmarks are there that would make Ladies And Gentlemen...such a great record. Given that Kate Radley is on this record, it's slightly ironic she left Pierce (and the band) for a relationship with Richard Ashcroft. His/ (The) Verve's record A Storm In Heaven is what this record could have been.

Didn't grab me I'm afraid!

Like Ladies and Gentlemen, there are some moments, but the rest is too repetitive with no or little development. Ambient background music at best, nothing really rememberable.

Honestly didn’t finish this album. Probably did about 75 percent, but I did not like it. Too ambient. It’s background music at best. 2

Overall, it was just some weird background noise. It wasn't unpleasant but it didn't really feel like much of anything.

Run is pretty good except most of the lyrics are stolen from a Lynyrd Skynyrd song. Maybe could've come up with their own lyrics since it's not really a cover. Just a different song with stolen lyrics and the rest of the album is ambient and soothing but ... snore.

This would be fine music to fall asleep to. That being said, this was boring and made me sleepy.

I won't waste as much time reviewing this album as I did listening to it. I found myself drifting off to sleep while listening to Laser Guided Melodies, which could be a good or bad thing. It was relaxing, for sure, but engaging, impactful and essential, not so much. I guess, this is what you would call Dream Pop or Space-Rock, which perfectly describes the sounds and it felt like I was listening to the soundtrack of the NASA channel. "Airy" and "gentle" are some of the words used to further describe the music, it's interesting at times, but if I want ambient breezy sounds, I'll go outside....and warning, do NOT drive or operate heavy machinery while listening!

Nothing to rave about here except this could put me to sleep. Need to remember that.

This is #day44 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... ladies and gentlemen, I'm floating in space!!! Oh, wait. That's a different album. But still, I should be kind of floating... Right? Well, I thought I would die sooner than I finished this album. I like some dream pop and shoegaze, but this was way too fucking much of nothing in particular. If it was meant to make me feel high, it didn't succeed because I feel low. Perfect prescription to your annoyance. This is a 2 out of 5. Looking forward to #day45.

Album didn’t do much for me

Strong acid-laced jam band vibes here. I felt Phish concert vibes more than once. The biggest problem I had was that multiple tracks felt exactly the same as they faded away to nothing. Fun to discover that Spiritualised came about when Spaceman 3 broke up, but not that much fun.

To my own fault I can’t truly even remember this album too well which is funny because I just listened to it but maybe that’s a sign. I feel like it had potential to be cool but that’s where it ended and I would never pick this to listen to.

overwhelming reaction while listening....: GET ON WITH IT!!!! 2 Spiritualized albums (...at least...) this far isn't necessarily a travesty of any kind, but is it necessary? Almost like a more soporific and boring Stone Roses. At first I'm thinking I do like it better than their "big" album ("Ladies and Gentlemen...") but there's still an utter lack of developed songs. Like they hit their "cool" spacey vibe and never deviate - take the song "Run" for example. I don't need to describe it - you know when you hear it. song was about 3 minutes too long and it's only 4 minutes. This is their inherent problem. ...I take it back, it's *not* better than their future album - it's the same meandering sound palette that you might hear in a modern art gallery or while doing goat yoga. this is going nowhere. It's frustrating because in one sense it's close to being really cool but in another it's nowhere near close - existing a goddamn galaxy away from well-constructed - or even constructed - popular music. ...re-evaluating my early comment: it WILL be a travesty if there's a 3rd album from this band on the list. 3/10 2 stars.

The slower, spacier side of dream pop (aptly dubbed "space-rock") was never a genre I could get behind. The sleepy reverbed vocals, and void soundscapes are pretty, sure, but they make for a less-than-engaging listen overall, especially when the albums drag on. Unfortunately, as much as I've heard about Spiritualized, this debut effectively sums up all my issues with the genre. The vocals especially are too damn sleepy for my liking, I honestly enjoy this album when it plays into more of its ambient tendencies, like on my favorite track 'Symphony Space' which has no vocals on it. This one song feels more otherworldly than any other song here. I also enjoyed the noise guitar against the cloudy back-drop closing off the song 'Shine a Light' - it was one of the more dramatically dense and cinematic moments here. Again, this album's definitely pretty and I did find myself getting lost in its soundscapes, especially near the end. It's just the song structures, writing, and performances here left me wanting a lot more by the time I was finished with this thing.

Underwhelming. Supposed to be atmospheric but I didn't feel it, so maybe my mood is to blame

You better run, shine a light… kuin lainailtaisi sanoitukset muualta. Eka biisi taas lupaava, sitten mennään tylsäksi ja aivan liian pitkäksi, levystä sais parikyt minuuttia pois helposti. Se on kai mun ongelma näissä utuisissa poprocklevyissä aina, en vaan jaksa vaikka ainekset on lupaavat. Kuitenkin parempi levy kuin kansi antaa ymmärtää.

The Soup Dragons were more popular.

What an unbelievably boring album. I actually forgot it was still on, and that's while listening to it in the car

Not sure what the hell I was listening to for an hour. I’m pretty sure I could’ve died never listening to this and would have been just fine. But oh well, the last song was cool.

Kinda similar to the last album I heard on here. Sounds like a soundtrack in search of a movie.

Why are these coming up again? Preferred the other album, this one was about one third primal screamy bassy rock and two thirds ambient droneyness. There were snippets of half interesting stuff but not enough take any of the songs to a reasonable level. Not 1 level terrible but underwhelming.

Ladies and Gentlemen... was pretty great; this is naff. It's pretty clear where they condensed and clarified their sound - too many turns down meaningless alleys, too many never-ending fades, emphasis of noise over melody. I get they are known for this, but the album is unrefined. For my #500, overall, rather disappointing. Tuneless signing works when the background stands out.

Bit of a struggle to listen to. I've heard plenty of similar music from other bands, but it's a genre where the music either clicks with me, or I can't be bothered to listen to it anymore. It was the latter for me. Fun album art though.

Interesting, but boring

Abit too slow for me, without the unique feel to their other album on this list. I don’t need a track where it’s just spacey noises.

Is this Shoegaze again? I should learn to be suspicious when Apple Music just labels an album as Alternative. This is, for the most part, boring and too long. It had a few moments where I wondered how it would sound if they were awake and lucid. Was "Run" a mashup of Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Velvet Underground? It was probably the best track. I'm listening to the last track now, thank goodness. Is she just going to slowly count all the way to 200?

It's not terrible, but it is boring. I'm not really in to super spacy music like this. It seems best suited for just laying around listening to music and doing nothing else. I don't do that, so for me it's just boring music that I ignore.

put me to sleep (figuratively) but in a bad way

Needed spirits to get through this one.

Definitely not my style. It all sounded the same, and was boring.

This experiment failed.

This wasn’t BAD but it was very boring. Nothing stuck out to me

It feels a bit derivative but I can't tell if it's where this sound originates and many imitators came after. In theory a sound I like, but I would like a bit more dynamism and action, it is a bit too mild. I am bored half way through, I don't think I am enjoying it at all. All the songs last far too long without anything really happening. 2.5

Maybe good if I was high.

The cover art and the name of the album had me very optimistic that I would love this. I do not. I tried to listen but pretty soon I started doing something else too because otherwise it would have become sleeping at my desk music. It's pretty but there's no there there.

It was okay

On the perfect line of never wanting to turn it off, but also never feeling a modicum of emotion or excitement.

Absolutely not for me. "Run" was pretty good though.

Album was kind of boring. Nothing was that interesting. 2/5 Won’t listen again

92/1001 🌕🌕🌗🌑🌑

Although I have enjoyed Spiritualized tracks before I found this a hard listen. The tracks seemed to blend over each other and I was wanting some change and development. Thought the first track was best

Repetitive, uninspired version of Krautrock mixed with 90's pop rock.

Low key almost jangle-trance. Don't remember any of it.

Good to rest to. Probably wouldn’t listen otherwise but the cover of call me the breeeze was interesting.

I really like Ladies and gentlemen we're floating in space. This album feels like a stepping stone to that one.

After the third song, the rest of the album felt like one loooong song. Got pretty boring.

Very forgetable. His voice fades into the background. Not unlistenable but not for me.

пацаны( я расстроен сам своей оценкой. но их floating in space на 10 голов выше этого алкоальбом: грустно пьешь один пиво (да и пиво среднее)

Tunnelmallista ja hidastempoista kevyttä rockia. Siis tosi rauhallista. Laulaja ei kauheasti korota ääntä. Yksi kappale ihan ambient. Vähän ehkä puuduttavaa. Parhaat: Shine A Light, Sway

One Spiritualized album on this list seemed fair enough; two seems excessive. From what I’ve heard they’re a bit style over substance (i.e. not much in the way of memorable songs). Though to be fair it’s a pretty good style, and a few of the later tracks did suck me into their hypnotic space soup. I like the album art, too. Not enough to round up from 2.5 stars though.

songs all sounded pretty similar- it would be a nice album to listen to on the beach perhaps

This was mostly pointless. I kept forgetting I was listening to it.

Boring as fuck and too long. 2 stars for Run and the the 2nd half of 200 Bars.

So disappointing after listening to Gentlemen we are floating in space which is a masterpiece.

Weird. chill lounge music. idnt hate it. but I can see why it needed a gimic to se;ll. the music alone would not do it

Couldn't get too into this (at least in a single day), felt like a no man's land somewhere near early 90s rock and shoegaze.

Should come with a warning sticker saying "only listenable if you are high"

Proto space rockstars or not this album does not deserve a place on this list. A most average album where the most charitable thing you can say is that nothing stood out. Give me some passion. Give me some flaws. Give me something. I sort of felt something during "I Want You", but it quickly disappeared. After enduring nearly an hour of droning, the last track "200 Bars" just seemed like someone taking the piss with their cheeky counting. I would have given it a rating of a 1, but it was engineered and mastered well. A boring record that probably spawned a bunch of the boring brit and "dream" pop of the nineties. Pitchfork, Melody Maker, Rolling Stone, Spin; you can all fuck right off. This stuff is terrible. Dream pop the sound that is coming from my ass.

Kind of dull. It was hard to tell when a song ended and a new one started unless I was fully focused on the song at hand.

Spährische Klänge mit viel Synthy, Orgel und einer mäßigen Stimme. Auf dem Album ist leider keine Supernova sind eher Mondfinsternis. Es gibt sicherlich besser Platten des Genres.

Firstly: Oh God why? On the other hand: do you like a single pad note slowly raising in volume for 50 seconds straight? Do you like whispering and nothing different than that? If the answer to either of these questions is yes, boy do I have the record for you! The sad part is that in here there’s a great rock album with a stellar production and solid riffs, but they just said fuck that, we’ll whisper over the whole record while rambling about random stuff, and while we’re at it, let’s also add random fucking intros and outros with 2 minutes of tension that we’re never gonna resolve. I wanted to give this a 3, because really, great riffs man. Then i got to the song “200 Bars”, which literally is just a guy counting numbers, and in good conscience I can’t go higher than 2. Still salty about the vocals though, what a waste

Mellow spaced-out indie guitar like a less noisy version of My Bloody Valentine.

Rating: 5/10 This album has moments that are very beautiful and a few great songs but most of it is very forgettable and extremely boring. Favorite songs: You Know It's True, If I Were With Her Now, I Want You, 200 Bars. Worst songs: Smiles, Symphony Space, Take Your Time.

Not very good. Boring.

The sleepiest album I've ever heard. Not sure what the splooge people on the cover are dancing to - certainly can't be this record. A more apt design would have been cum-people tucked into bed.

Two albums by this band? Woof.

This feels very ahead of its time, especially as this is from 1992 and I feel like Tame Impala just put this album out last year. Not really my kind of music is all.

Very vibey. But some times it was too vibey, didn't think some songs merited going on and on for over 6 minutes. Not my taste.

First track was pretty disappointing. I'm not into sleepy stuff usually. There are some interesting ideas on the following tracks, "If I were with her now" in particular. But honestly I didn't find this album very compelling even if its probably someone's favorite. I think I had the same impressions when I saw them at Sasquatch.

trying to be so sonically impressive but ends up being nothing at all in the end. like it's so ethereal it's not music any more. didn't enjoy

Production feel way more modern than 1992 tbh

Struggled to focus on this despite 3 listens. Seems fine.

It was cool as background music, I guess

Standard Brit pop/ shoegaze album. Heard better…heard worse. Average at best.

It's boring AF and no amount of noise of distortion can help it.

Perhaps not the right moment to listen but didn’t really enthrall me.

I love a lot of trippy music, mainly from the 60s and 70s. When Wikipedia called them a space rock band I was excited to hear something like Hawkwind or early Pink Floyd. Instead this album was far more boring than that. There were some cool sounds, but they usually dragged on too long without enough meaningful change throughout. It was often more of an ambient album than a rock album. Very disappointing Maybe I should try listening with a good set of speakers for the full effect

this is doing nothing for me. background

wasn't as terrible as the other album from these jokers but I didn't like it

Had some interesting moments, sounds and ambience but not amazing

Forventa meir elektronika-aktig shit, men va visst bare kjedelig shoegaze

Maybe it's that I expected something electronic based on the artist name, album title and its cover, but this is... Somewhat off-putting and not all that great. It's pretty bland which really keeps it from a 1, because I probably wouldn't even recognize it if I heard it again.

I love shoegaze & dreampop, but that was about he most boring version. Lazer Guided Mediocrity is more like it. 2/5

Good background vibes - concentration music

Album 245 of 1001 Spiritualized - Lazer Guided Melodies Would do as background music. Nothing special to report here. Didn't suck to excess. --------------------------- Lazer Guided Melodies is the debut studio album by English space rock band Spiritualized.

I found this album to be one where I just couldn’t connect. Even as background music, I found it to be something that didn’t move me. Not for me, 2/5.

Dream pop. Un rollo. Un 2. Casi un 1...

Not for me

Rock espacial Influenciado claramente por pink floyd, logran hacer una obra interesante Destaco por sobre todo el bajo del album

Me compré una pedalera: El disco No se si tengo mucho mas para decir ya que no me generó mucho ni para bien ni para mal. Mediocre

Droney, surreal yet approachable, intriguing. Also, Repetitive, muted, and kind of uninteresting. I feel like this record's music is maybe better for drug-induced live performances. I'm sober and sitting at my desk so maybe there's a contextual issue here? I did like "I Want You". I'm just kind of bored with the sound. This isn't some 1960's band trying to think about what the first moon landing is going to be like and making a sonic score to that. It's spacey as a negative. 2/5.

Didn't do much for me

Okay as background music I guess

Floaty airy boring

AJ: got through 5 songs. They made some good noises but it’s really not for me at all. I Want You was pretty ok but I think that’s mostly because the title made me think of Cat. And Bob Dylan’s I Want You, so then I listened to Blonde on Blonde.

A lot of basic two chord vamps. Background Muzak.

Some was OK but the Space action was not working today

After hearing over 900 albums I’m really over the Brit Pop shoegaze space rock scene. I thought their subsequent album, Ladies and Gentlemen was quite mediocre and this is even less enjoyable and like I said, I’m really over this sound.

Sleep inducing but in a pleasant way. Would work miracles on a long haul flight with some noise cancelling headphones. 🎧🎧

slow ZZzzz

Ok so the album flowed very nicely from song to song, and i get the feeling it would be better if I was on whatever drugs the band was on when they made it, but I didn't enjoy it. It was slow and soothing, bit in a sleepy way not a calming way.

Didn't seem that special

- Heard Ladies and Gentlemen before but not this one - Thought I would've enjoyed it more so a bit disappointed - Thought it was a bit bland and forgettable, but maybe it would grow on me if I listened again - Nothing really stood out

zzzzzzzz

Dragged and droned throughout. Didn't click with me.

Dream pop. Un rollo. Un 2. Casi un 1...
