Not bad but didn’t make a strong impression

Very slow, mellow, and psychedelic. Only tracks that really stuck out to me were Angel Sigh and maybe 200 bars.

I also enjoyed this album quite a lot. Despite being "one of the greats", I don't enjoy LaGWAFIS, but Lazer Guided Melodies feels like a whole different vibe.

Lazer Guided Melodies, Spiritualized- 7/10 “You know it’s true” and “if I were with her now” were both fantastic in terms of production, and both utilize a brilliant use of panning that keeps things interesting. But they somewhat lacked the sort of structure that I enjoy. “I want you” is a much more upfront, massive sounding stadium rocker that I really quite like. “Run” I feel slightly brings to light that the vocal performances so far haven’t really been anything spectacular. “Smiles” is slightly disappointing because it builds up this concept for a minute and a half then just fades away right when your ready for it to crescendo. “Step into the Breeze” has the same problem; as soon as the song starts to get interesting it just ends… “Symphony Space” is really just sound rather then music, and I am reviewing music, not ambient sounding noise. “Take Your Time” is decidedly eerie sounding with these somber guitars and Jason’s almost whispered vocals. It almost sounds like the soundtrack to a midnight walk on another planet… “Shine a Light” sounds like it’s straight from another dimension and is a little longer then it needs to be, but hey, it’s definitely interesting. After all the previous mellow sounding songs “Angel Sigh” really slaps you awake with a killer guitar riff and powerful drumming, but again is a little long winded and overstays it’s welcome. Maybe I’m just tired, but “Sway” really almost had me falling asleep, and again right when it got good it just ended. I feel “200 Bars” is hypnotizing my ears in a way, and it’s quite strange. Conclusion: Spiritualized really created something unique here, and if the future sounded like anything, this is prolly what I’d imagine it to sound like😂 It’s like U2, The Cure, My bloody valentine, and Beach House had a giant futuristic baby in outer space. And I like it. 7/10

Chill. I think I might end up liking it, if I give it a chance.

Very calming album. Probably not for everyone. The last couple tracks probably could have been left off and made it better overall.

Концептуально мне вроде бы нравится, Дрим-поп там, Спейс-рок, подбор инструментов, композиционные решения некоторые. Но реализация скорее не доставляет. В один момент как-то вовсе задушился, что аж парашу ёбнуть хотел. Но не, что-то приятное мелькает порой, хоть и не настолько, чтоб с интересом продолжать слушать.

For me, Spiritualized sit in an otherwise empty musical box in my head marked “The Verve meets Flaming Lips”. The only album of theirs I’d ever owned was ‘Ladies and Gentleman...” which if I’m honest with myself I bought as much for its critical acclaim and its giant pill packet packaging as I did the music. Don’t get me wrong - I like the music. It just never really manages to hold my attention as much as I feel they deserve. By chance they were one of the last bands I saw live before Covid put a stop to all that, but I think I got lured away half way through by the smells wafting over from a Lebanese food van. I enjoyed this album but I know in my heart of hearts I probably won’t be going back to it very often.

No memorable song to be found, but as a whole, it was pleasant to listen to and the genre is something I am enjoying on this list.

There’s like zero chance this list wasn’t created by a British journalist, right? Anywho, this album feels at times like it was made by more than one band. The band that does the slower, quieter stuff (“Shine a Light” and “Angel Sigh” in particular) is the band I like. The band that sounds like they’re just trying to convince everybody they do a lot of drugs is the band I could do without. And whoever decided to put that freak glitch out at the end of that one song is a meanie.

Ahora que lo reflexiono me recuerda demasiado a Sigur Ros. Me agrado bastante y tiene suficiente influencia de ese noise rock como para darle definición a las canciones. De hecho las canciones que son mucho más "convencionales" me sonaron de fondo a The Verve bastante. If I Were With Her Now en particular me agradó mucho con esas gaitas y ese sonido industrialoide repetitivo que me recordó a KMFDM. Hacia el final del disco los motivos quizá se empiezan a repetir un poco de más, el ambiental empieza a dominar y se vuelve un pelín demasiado etereo; aunque todo este cambio se siente intencionado y es parte de lo que hace que se sienta como un album de verdad pensado y estructurado. Una música agradable, más accesible de lo que parece cuando se escucha de inicio (de verdad en el fondo se oye britpopera). Un album bien hecho, se siente en "ciclos" y, aunque quizá no todos sus ciclos sean de mi entero agrado es algo que podría volver a escuchar para poner más atención y seguir analizándolo un poco, incluso si no es lo que usualmente busco poner.

We hebben natuurlijk net nog Spacemen 3 gehad, wat eigenlijk de voorloper was van Spiritualized (lees ik nu pas op wiki) en daar was ik al niet kapot van. Ook nu hoor ik hier veel te veel Stone Roses in en daar krijg ik enorme jeuk van. En dan is een uur echt teringlang. Dit is door die madchester-vibes niet aan mij besteed, alhoewel ik de spacerock/shoegaze/postrock onderdelen best goed had kunnen vinden. Al gaat het hier vaak meer richting het trage en dromerige, ipv het opzwepende. Het latere album wat we al eerder kregen, is wat dat betreft beter geschikt voor me. Aangezien dat dus een net iets moderner sausje heeft gekregen en ik die 1990 sound niet meer hoor. En daar dus ook geen jeuk van kan krijgen. Ik heb ter vergelijking dat album "Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space" nog voor een deel teruggeluisterd en dat is absoluut een stuk beter voor mij. Het doet me denken aan Steven Wilson en Porcupine Tree, al zou ik dat weer moeten luisteren om te horen of die associatie klopt. Op zich wel weer leuk een ontdekkingsreis, maar voor nu hou ik het voor dit album op een magere 2 sterren, waar dat andere album nog op 4 sterren mocht rekenen. Een debuut is nu eenmaal niet altijd beter.

So-so

There's nothing quite like a band overindulging themselves and dragging out an album for far too long. But the issues don't stop there, though Spiritualized might have some good ideas they go absolutely nowhere and most songs meander along before fading out into nothingness. I didn't hate it, but this has to be one of the most forgettable albums I've ever listened to; at least Captain Beefheart sticks with you, for better or worse.

A bit to weird at times with strange sounds as well as singing that is very muted made what overall is an okay album lose some points with me. The rhythms in a few of the songs was parts I really enjoyed but it got lost somewhere in the mix of stuff I didn't enjoy .

This does indeed sound like very dreamy, spacey pop-rock music. Additionally, I would describe the music as strange and ethereal. The songs all seemed to have the same aura running through them, and they never really went anywhere exciting.

Well they sure are fantastic at taking interesting musical ideas and really dragging them out until they become a seemingly never-ending slog to get to the end of for any given song and then the album itself just seems to drag on and on and on until it finally ends and if you haven't fallen asleep from total boredom you just find yourself relieved that it's over.

I always put spiritualized on when I can’t sleep

I didn't hate it but it largely passed me by entirely. Which could well be the point of course. Just................. hard to find any words beyond "fine".

5/10 - the concept sounds good but I expected more, it's just is a bit forgettable

Hmmm between Spacemen 3 and the other Spiritiualized album on here, this seems redundant. Something that could take its place is a This Will Destroy You album or a Hammock album. Some sweeping, grand post-rock would be much more interesting than this offering. By the time “Take Your Time” came around, I was altogether tapped out. Nothing was happening, and not the good kind of nothing. A pseudo-cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd didn’t even do anything for me. A weak 2/5 this isn’t worth the time

1992. Debut studio album. Simultaneously explores motorik, minimalist music, and space rock while subtly using "meticulously detailed, layered instrumentation, the sumptuous deployment of horns and strings" to create cinematic, textured, and deeply narcotic soundscapes.

The Wikipedia entry for this album proudly states that it sold 10,000 copies in the USA in its first 3 years. That's good for hipsters, bad for exposure. There is of course a good reason for this: the album is just a lot of directionless unmemorable mediocrity.

very pleasant bass thump doing a lot of work I think the sparse Velvet Underground type jam at the beginning sets me up for patience the the rest weak when it tries to do more conventional pop rock second last track very annoying. going down to 2. could make a solid 3.5 out of this with editing. music: hated. Meh. Barely registered for me.

Here’s another obscure English band with their debut album. This one is rock/space rock - more planetarium music with occasional vocals. The whole thing is rather boring, particularly the last track, which repeats the same two chords for three minutes while someone counts from 1 to 100. Just barely good enough for two stars.

Attempting to sell a 4 side LP in the '90s feels like a strong disconnect with society, which is probably the main reason I've never heard of this. It feels like whatever they were imagining was very similar to the outcome, there's so many layers, odd instruments and curious spacey details. It's just that, a lengthy display of '90s space-rock. I low-key never want to hear this again. No drama or anything. 2.3/5

Lost me immediately, won me over by the middle, then lost me again by the end.

Spiritualized is just a little too spiritual with their sound. Whispy and overly whimsical. Lazer Guided Melodies is pretty honed in on the technical song construction but is off target with appeal. Boring due to the lack of drums throughout most of the album. You would probably find this playing at some boho-chic shop that sells crystals and candles. I agree with Pitchfork's placement on a list of "ten unusual CD-era gimmicks." The band gets better when they start floating in space. With a long "Angel Sigh" I give this record 1.57 stars.

Wasn't aware of Spiritualized until they showed up on this list the first time. Lazer Guided Melodies was a little more slowed down and spacey than what I remember from the prior album, but seems like they live in this shoegaze, space rock realm which isn't the worst. You need to be in a specific mood to want to hear any of this, so if you run into it on a random day it might not be the right fit. For background music at work or when chilling its not the worst, but also not something I would ever think to put on. If you're stoned and just want to sit back and chill I can see this working but I'm not often in that state of mind so Spiritualized will likely remain an overlooked act that I don't think about much. I can see an audience for this existing and while I don't really think I'm part of it much there's something alluring about the low stakes vibes of the whole thing. It's a forgettable entry but not one I'm mad to have sat through. 2.13 stars

I expected this to be electronically tinged indie schmindie pap. It was. It started well though, a lot more interesting than I expected but I Want You out paid to that and dragged everything down. From there it seemed to spiral. Tired and uninspiring.

Yeah not gonna lie I was this close falling asleep to this one Very relaxing, feels dreamlike and light while at the very least having a bit of interesting instrumentation thrown in there every once in a while. Don’t think there was a single moment I actively disliked Just one of those albums where there’s really just nothing to sink your teeth into, and I wasn’t joking when I said I could fall asleep to this, it’s really that boring; maybe I’ll try it tonight when I go to bed. I’m racking my brain to think of more stuff to say about this one but I got nothing, quintessential 5/10 but I’ll round down cause i feel like it

Bruh I listened to this and all i can remeber is that I vaguely didn't like it

This was a whole lot of boring soundscape that was maybe inventive at the time but has been done much better by countless others since. I can appreciate floaty, layered rock music, but it has to do something unique or eventually build to something like post-rock, but this really does neither. Maybe they were pioneers in the sense that nobody was making that kind of music in 1992 (which is not really true, electronic artists had been doing it for decades), but it hasn't aged well. I think the last quarter of the album had more to offer than the first 9 songs, which I couldn't tell you anything about despite just having listened to them in the last hour. The final four songs are a bit more upbeat and have more volume, if nothing else, than the rest. I don't know, their other album is apparently better, but this one was honestly a disappointment. I say this as someone that enjoys ambient music, but this lies somewhere between pure ambient music and pop music without doing much of either properly. At least it's not offensively bad.

The music is fine, very sleepy. Nothing stood out to me.

After an underwhelming first listen I expected the nuances to seep out over time. But they didn't. This is 'anaemic ambience' - interesting ideas, often not brought to fruition and delivered with a lack of energy. Tellingly, on the final track, he sounds particularly feeble like Terry Jones in 'The Holy Grail' ("but Father, I just want to & sing!"). In amongst it, is undoubtedly some great stuff. 'If I Were With Her Now' has a solid bass riff, plucked and stabbed guitar, and manages to feel solid without losing the washed out edge. This type of track is when the album is at its best. 'Shine a Light' is excellent, a delicate and gentle melody - and 'Angel Sigh' is bit more rough round the edges but the same success in transporting the listener. Also bucking the trend, the amorphous sounds of 'Symphony Space' works very nicely - it's like the beginning of Sgt Pepper on a loop, reimagined as a spa break soundtrack - but somehow works. Although it has energy, 'Run' is a poor tribute to its forbears, that goes nowhere (save for a quite excellent bassline). A fair bit of this is boring, and a fair bit good. It's a significant step down from Cocteau Twins and Beach House. It's also a step down from Spacemen 3 where the organ provided a critical layer to the sound. Here that's replaced by some very nice bass playing, often the centre of musical focus. But it really doesn't sustain over an hour.

This was ok. Feels like this should be a soundtrack to a space documentary or show at a planetarium. It kind of blended into the background for me.

If I need help falling asleep I'll try to remember this album.

If I wanted to put on a lava lamp and get stoned, I think this would be good music to do it to. I can't think of many other situations I want this vibe. I should like this style as chill background music, but it was too inconsistent. I wouldn't call it bad, but I would never have been unhappy for it to end.

I am sorry, this did not group me an iota until the last 3rd of the last song. Though if you cross your eyes and stare at the album cover it's kinda fun to make shapes.

Preferred 'Pure Phase. Only one song on here stands out for a bit and although I like their unique guitar sound in places, it's not in the same league as the aforementioned later album, which I think is more atmospheric.

If I were in a better mood I could probably describe this album as ponderous or freeflowing. That being said I found it dull and would often forget what I was listening to. I didn't really find anything of interest or use in this album at all. It wasn't offensive but I wouldn't have much desire to listen to it again.

Pleasant enough music to put on as background noise or to play while trying to fall asleep. Nothing groundbreaking or original, however.

I gave Spacemen 3 a 1* rating. This is an improvement just due to the production improving, and I can see the appeal in a trancey, drugged out kind of way, but it just doesn't do enough to grab me. Can't remember any of it a few days later. 2*

What a weird album. Half of the time I felt like I was being lulled to sleep, the other half I felt like I was being tortured by the enemy to give up state secrets. And both of those things could occur within the same song. Not my jam.

As an enjoyer of ambient music from time to time, I'd say this album is mostly trash. Sometimes the trash is interrupted to make room for some garbage.

Decent enough album for the most part. Nothing overly memorable about it. It was sitting on three stars but it went on 3-4 tracks too long for me. Was quite bored of it by the end. Top Track - Step Into The Breeze

Almost engaging, but never interesting enough to enjoy at any point. Decent ambient grooves to chill and study to, but I can't think of many times I would want to put this one to actively listen to 4.1/10

I didn't HATE it exactly as much as get a growing feeling of it being background noise the entire time. The entire record is just ambient soundscapes that don't really get anywhere that you would need to either REALLY pay attention to or almost completely ignore to get into.

Sounds adjacent to Days of the New and Soundgarden. Was not at all what I was expecting based on the title/name/cover. Not awful, not something I would personally choose to listen to again. Too mellow/sleep-inducing. Good for a dreary, rainy nap day. Run has the most energy on the album. I'm sure this is a great album for someone who enjoys things chill, not for me.

I somewhat enjoyed Ladies and Gentlemen We are Floating in Space, though now that I have heard Lazer Guided Melodies I wish I had given "Ladies and Gentlemen..." a higher score than "3." While I found the prior Spiritualized album to be dreamy and very shoegaze, I found this one to be sleepy and not as compelling. There were a lot of instrumentals here or at least they felt like instrumentals to me. The last half of this one is pretty drowsy. It makes me believe there should have only been one Spiritualized album in this book and this one isn't it. My favorite tracks: You Know It's True I Want You Run Shine a Light

I want to like this album. There are some pretty tracks on here (shoutout to "Angel Sigh" and "Shine a Light"), but the rest of the album just evaporated away.

Mostly harmless, but very forgettable. I didn't dislike it but it very quickly turned into background music. it could have easily been shorter...and not on the list. Incredibly, this is my second Spiritualized album in this project. Still fairly certain neither should be included, and a whole host of more popular and important albums were excluded. I guess it really comes down to the list having personal preferences outweighing objective reality. 1.5⭐️

I try and do every album top to bottom to give the soundscape time to be established and adjust my expectations but this one lost me at Symphony Space. Its not lyrically or musically challenging - its just sounds with a run time.

I just don't get the hype for this band. Lazy songwriting, long-winded songs that lead nowhere... Can't feel any good musicianship either. I mean, it's not crap, but I don't get it.

I can see how this is enjoyable even if I didn’t necessarily enjoy it. It’s like floating around a frozen planet. This album drifts itself into the background better than any I can remember. Very trancelike even though I prefer higher tempo music that achieve that effect. I was counting down the minutes until it ended however. Rating: 1.7

Spiritualized pick up about where Spacemen 3 left off, with hypnotic melodies and dreamy soundscapes. Things are a bit looser this time around, with less repetition and more space. The second track demonstrates the best things this album has to offer: three repeating melodies of bass and guitar with fuzzy textures. But a lot of this is so spacey it may as well not even be there, as the looseness turns into songs that float by without leaving much impression. It undoubtedly sounds nice, but it's too devoid of memorable moments or even those where you feel like something new is happening. Great for lying on the couch drifting off, but not much else.

Sounds like it could be the best EDM album ever. It isnt, its not horrible but I knew before they were not gonna hit an album title like that. 2.5

Easy listening music

Album No. 0149 on my list. I had heard of the band Spiritualized before, but "Lazer Guided Melodies" was nevertheless something completely new to me. To be honest, I'm not sure what to make of this album tough. It's certainly not a bad album. I kinda like this spherical space rock style, the whole album really feels like floating through some amorphous medium (just like these two thingies on the cover do). Yet, the album doesn't really "do it" for me either. None of the songs are really catchy, the lyrics are not really present, but it's also too much for some laid back music playing in the background somewhere. I'll add "You Know It's True", and "Angel Sigh" to my playlist. In the end, it's a very narrow decision between two and three stars for me. Heck, I think I'll have to have fate decide again. I enjoyed the last album I heard from this guy and thought this may be similar. I was wrong and did not enjoy this overall. It is too atmospheric for me.

This album feels a little to heavy to be a psychedelic listen. The droning harmonies aren’t taking me anywhere, and the listen feels more like a drag

Anytime I see the description is 'debut studio album by English <extremely niche musical style> band' and the most listened to song is like 500k I am extremely skeptical. This is far from being top 1000 worthy!

Really need two Spiritualized albums on here huh. I can at least understand it in that I can see how this album would really resonate with people. It doesn’t do that with me but I get it. It’s completely acceptable music. It sort of sounds like Stone Roses but more boring, which is not what Stone Roses needed. It’s just kind of another distillation of Brit pop.

After listening to something like this, it really makes me wonder if there even is 1,001 albums if this makes the cut. Absolutely NOTHING inspiring about this. Just so boring and mediocre.

Very slow and ponderous. With enough drugs and time, I imagine it would be great to indulge in. Why use jizz figurines as your art work, stick people have been around for years?

Big old zilch here. As per usual nothing all that wrong with it per say but I got nothing outta it. Just a waye of an hour. The nail in the coffin was the closing track. 200 bars is just a lady counting to 100 then they write an actual song for a bit and then she says 200. Im happier with that thay just counting out the 200 measures but only slightly. Like its pretty at times but the count from sesame street didnt need a feature. That was the only memorable moment the whole time so I guess thats it. Fine enough but not for me

This mostly just dragged on too long. I wouldn’t say it’s terrible by any means, I can appreciate some ethereal sounds here and there, but it didn’t seem all that significant to have made the list. Somewhere between a two and three but I’m rounding down.

I almost liked this in a few places, but then they'd do something to ruin it, add another instrument, whine a bit, etc. They're trying to hard to be all mystical and profound it makes me want to laugh at them. You can easily spot all the things they want to be, oh that's a Rolling Stones attempt, oh that's like Temu Beatles, oh Ian Brown wants his voice back. A very annoying album.

Honestly, I found it pretty dull. It's like The Stone Roses with added electronic elements and minus the playfulness.

One should only ever have to listen to so much electronic ambient sound. This exceeded that.

There’s a couple good tracks here but mostly it sounds like a dude who couldn’t be bothered to make his own album. Whispered lyrics, overlong simplistic instrumentals. I hated this dude’s other band represented on here, and he certainly didn’t need more than one spot on this list.

It's a bit too ambient and doesnt quite progress how contemporaries would go on to do. This seems like a stepping stone to radiohead that is now just outclassed.

This was a whole lot of boring soundscape that was maybe inventive at the time but has been done much better by countless others since. We've already had one Spiritualized album and this one is arguably worse. I can appreciate floaty, layered rock music, but it has to do something unique or eventually build to something like post-rock, but this really does neither. Maybe they were pioneers in the sense that nobody was making that kind of music in 1992 (which is not really true - electronic artists had been doing it for decades), but it hasn't aged well. I think the last quarter of the album had more to offer than the first 9 songs, which I couldn't tell you anything about despite just having listened to them in the last hour. The final four songs are a bit more upbeat and have more volume, if nothing else, than the rest. Angel Sigh might be the pick of all of them. I don't know, their other album wasn't good but at least it went somewhere. I say this as someone that enjoys ambient music, but this lies somewhere between pure ambient music and pop music without doing much of either properly. At least it's not offensively bad.

Not bad as background music, seems like it'd be painful to listen to actively

Space rock... I judged hard with just the first song of the album. I never heard of Space Rock before, so I didn't know what I was getting myself into. This is....well the first song was putting me to sleep, but then it just got weirdly atmospheric. Yeah, I don't think I can vibe with this...it's too....left field.

Just kind of ambient music? I liked this more than the other Spiritualized album that I listened to from this list but it managed to evoke almost no feelings from me.

This album sold 10,000 copies in the United States in 3 years - that sort of put this into perspective. Wonder how many of the 10,000 people regretted buying this, I would have. Just there and not the interesting. I had to finally look up what the style was - space rock?!? - I think navel gazing crystal deveining would be better classification.

I liked this debut album fine from Spiritualized. I felt like most of the album was pretty ambient and monotonous which led me to be kind of bored while listening. Overall, I thought this album was fine but it didn’t keep my interest the entire time. I’m not sure if I would listen to this again but I could see why some people would like the ambient space rock vibes of this album.

Confusing, bouncy, and I probably wouldn't have this on my rotation. It is reminiscent of the airiness of road trips, and the dreaded turning point where you are as far from home as you'll be, and you are only at that point returning.

This music is tailor made for an emotional montage in a movie. Doesn't even seem like it's for listening. Enjoyed their sound on a couple tracks, but it really is like ambiance music, sad nostalgia.

Spiritualized feels like a more hazy, less focused, and yet somehow maximalist companion band to Radiohead. I can see what the band was trying to do but it grated my ears. I quite liked "I Want You" though. However, do check out their 1997 album 'Ladies and Gentlemen we are floating in space' with a similarly minimalist cover. That is a more realized version of what this album was trying to be.

Space noise. Silly. Last couple songs almost redeemed the early nonsense.

I was open to this, no preconceptions, but it didn't do it for me. Some gorgeous synths and a moody atmosphere. No doubt because it was 1992, the songs themselves were a bit Manchester-sounding in their vocal arrangements, melodies and chords (despite the band hailing from, er, Rugby) but sadly, they lacked the dance factor. It was bit like the Stone Roses crossed with Pink Floyd, but only the very dullest bits of each. Disappointing.

Yeah, this is not it... could be the genre, as it not my cup of tea, but this quickly became background music as the album went on. Nothing inspiring I could pick up (for my taste, obviously), and not a single memorable moment. It's music, I guess. Did not like this one at all.

Scuzzy, but nothing new. 8am on Monday morning wasn't the best time to take in all the thrills. Will revisit after a couple of shandies.

This one was not made for me. Very long, very aimless, not sure it accomplished the grandeur that it was trying to. 1 is too harsh because there’s some great effects and ideas and soundscapes but I wouldn’t ever listen to this this on purpose ever again.

Spacey shoegaze for the sake of being spacey shoegaze. The writing and production were at least competent but any emotion I was supposed to feel was overwritten with boredom

Didn't really care for this

It’s quite an achievement to make an album that you can listen to for an hour and have absolutely no memory of what you’ve just heard. As the final track finished, I genuinely struggled to recall anything about it. I guess it’s 60s psychedelia through a 90s shoegaze lens, with bits of ambient and drone music thrown in. In theory this should be right up my street, but it’s not quite as good as the bands that it tries to emulate - there are nods to the Velvet Underground, the synths from 70’s Who and Hawkwind, and possibly a bit of Brian Eno, but it never quite gels. It’s billed as Space Rock but it never gets much beyond a disappointing sub-orbital flight.

I bit tedious if I’m honest! I bought …floating in space when it came out and tried many times to get into but never could. It’s all a bit one dimensional and yawn, boring.

Going blind into another album let's go. Opening track starts with a slow soft sung love track, heavy on the keys and reverbed clean tone electric guitar very easy listening, transitioning into heavy digital effects towards the end of the track. 2nd track picks up the BPMs a bit, big distorted guitar chords, the use of almost whispered lyrics add to it very nicely. There's a consistent echoey type effect with the vocals that really contrasts with a mixture of funky basslines and high end drumming. The album bounces between these two paces making it fairly consistent album overall. Overall it's a fairly easy listen but not an album I'd revisit anytime soon, it's not bad but it's not exactly grabbing me in any kind of way. 2/5 MTW A proper throwback to childhood for me - minimalist rhythm and dreamy vocals. I didn't realised how stoned my dad was for most of the 90s until I was WAY older. Whenever anyone tries to talk to me about shoegaze I just mention Spiritualized and then run away, so I will admit this type of music isn't my bread and butter and I'm not overly qualified to speak on it. You can however hear the influences a lot of bands since have taken from this record in particular, i.e. Radiohead (Tracks 2 and 6), The Verve (track 4), Arcade Fire (most of the record) to name a few. I find LGM to be a very up and down record, with a lot of tracks taking too long without presenting enough meat. It is bookended excellently though by my highlight tracks being the opener and the closer. 200 Bars has the right balance to it and ends the album on a high with a hopeful feel, positive guitar and a still-awake vocalist, against all odds. 2.5/5

This mind numbing barrage of one bassline and sound throughout the entire album was exhausting. So exhausting I may need nap. I firmly believe that repeated listens could bring on a spontaneous coma that I might never recover from. I'm going to need to kick things up to 11 after the coalescence of melancholia and despair that this album exhumed.

This is really long and kind of just drifts around. I tried twice and mostly zoned out and didn't notice it either time. It wasn't awful, but it was forgettable and I don't know why if I could only hear 1,001 albums, that I'd pick something forgettable.

This sounds like a great version of whatever this is. I'm not sure why it is important for it to be on this list. A little too formulaic at times, which makes it sound like variations on the same song concept.

OK I've not been about but hey! These are playing tramlines! I don't know that they're my kinda thing but they're on the main stage before pulp so I'll most likely be seeing them This seems decent but I find it so hard to concentrate on this sort of thing I'm on like track 8 without noticing. I recognise Shine A Light. I have nothing else to say. Getting a bit boring now maybe I need to revisit this on drugs at 1am

A solid album. Had some very cool, trippy passages and some nice crescendos. Some tracks really drag on, though, but overall pretty decent listen.

Symphony Space goes really well with the breeders opener from their album Pod. It is so damn calm that when it up the tempo it feels so refreshing, but that is not the norm. So I feel bored, why is this album an hour long Lets count up the numbers for the final track I'd say 2/5 for If I were with here now, but the rest of the material did not stick with me. Album art looks like some semen aliens floating in space or something.

Hadn't heard of this group from Rugby before despite being into alt-rock/shoegaze, but seemingly it's because they're not that great. This album was fine, low mood methodical, but lacked oomph. Seems to not be one of their bigger albums either.

Odd album to be included here. I feel like albums like this get made all the time. Talented but with an outside flavor. They don't get any traction so we never here of them. This one was pretty slick but it didn't lean in a direction I prefer. Maybe I just couldn't meet it where it lives this day.

There were times in this where I thought, "you know, this isn't so bad." Then there were more times where I couldn't help but think, "this really isn't that great, is it?"

This was so bad I had to take a break halfway through, and I almost never do that. So repetitive. Every song was so long and went absolutely nowhere.

A band I never really got into apart from a handful of songs, Run in particular on this album. There were much better Shoegaze/Dream Pop albums around in 1991/92. Ride - Going Blank Again, Lush - Spooky and Slowdive - Just For a Day to name 3.

Oh boy... Never been a big fan of shoegaze and the amount of navelgazing on this album is astounding even by those standards. Going to finish but just got to Symphony Space which is more like a waste of space. I know there are people who like to trance out to this kind of music but like at least do it to something with more interest beyond the surface. No, I am not dismissing the layers upon layers of production on each of these tracks. Those exist but like that's 101 atmosphere. Where is any harmonic movement? Where is the dynamic contrast? Where are the motifs, calls and responses, or polyrhythms? There's more than 5 minutes of music on every track, pay me off with something! Happy to put this away and go back to Sigor Ros. There is something meditative to Spiritualized but I did not need to hear this before I die. Note after finishing the album the piano at the end of Take Your Time and the horns in Angel Sigh are more what I'm looking for. The whole project is still lacking for me though.

Well, that was soporific. More like Lazer Guided Lullabies. But not awful or anything. Really 1.5 stars.
