Parental discretion is advised. This is beyond my range. Pitchfork: n/a Rolling Stone: Top 500 Albums #27 (2023)
Clearly skilled in their art. It sounds like there is a lot of pain behind the anger and violence expressed here. I can’t seem to get past the use of explicit lyrics seemingly only for the sake of using explicit lyrics. I guess I’m just not part of the culture.
Really? We've been down this road before, the violence, the sexual degradation, etc., etc., etc. I understand the rawness, the life reality for some, but not for me my friends.
Sorry I just can't.... you motherfuckin' bitch!
Not my cuppa tea.
Not interested
I think East Coast is not my thing. 1.5/5
That was worse than getting a root canal without Novocain.
Not for me
I knew this was a "NAH!!!" but listened to it anyway. Yeah, not for me.
Really? Is it supposed to be one album I should listen before I die? With this list I have listened to many hip-hop albums and, honestly, it's driving me to boredom. I will try every and each album, and listen to the whole thing. But, as I've said many times, I don't like hip-hop. It's tiring, and I don't care if you're a genius combining samples with whatever you want, it doesn't work for me. Listening to this album is like listening to the same song, all the time, over and over. And there's nothing interesting. Do you need to say "fuck" all over the same song just to make you feel "rebel", "young", "tough" or whatever you want to be? Because it feels like a joke. This album is boring. But also irritating. I will repeat myself with a previous review, but it feels like a waste of time. I understand the point is to listen to different genres, but I've listened many mid albums that I'm sure are not on this list that are far better than this one. But, again, I don't like hip-hop, so, to begin with, I wouldn't have liked this album. And that's what has happened.
Dimensiono su impacto cultural. No me gustó a mí.
Not in the mood for "WOO! GUNS ARE GREAT!" on the day of yet another mass shooting. Got about halfway thru the first song and noped out.
una basura
Nicht ganz durchgehört; ich kann den Einfluss verstehen, ist aber musikalisch nicht mein Fall.
i dont like rap so i didnt listen it im sorry, but im sure that people that like rap are going to love this
For a proper review of this album, I must channel the prophets Daryl Hall and John Oates who once said "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)"
Mumble mumble, ghetto yeah, shooting yeah, mumble mumble... Shit back then and even more shit now.
нахер
I hate that my 150,000th song scrobbled on Last.fm was from this album. There’s not much greater garbage than this to ruin a milestone. Pure shite.
probablemente el peor album que he oído en mi vida. o top 5 peores. q mierdoón era tot rap pero rap malo negre enfi ja saps.
Everyone likes different types of music, but only their lovers or mothers could possibly pretend to like this!
What a terrible, terrible album.
Significant? Maybe. Possible to listen to with any ounce of enjoyment? No.
Not my jam.
Rap, a bit like beastie-boys
Not a fan
no escucho hip hop
Rap
1 ⭐️ DNF. Too much swearing and not enough interesting music/lyrics.
Not for me
i can see how this would be a very influential album (jay z basically carbon copied the rapper on 7th chamber), but it's not my style of music. really not a fan of the chatting at the start of almost every song (edit: OMG STOP TALKING ITS NOT A PODCAST). i get that it has its time or plan (love it on Kneecap's Fine Art) but its used to death here and really takes you out of the flow. enjoyed: - shame on a n***a - cool minor sequence on the piano! - da mystery of chessboxin - CREAM not a fan of: - clan in da front - method man (had to skip it 30 seconds in) - tearz (shame, cause I like it without the 30 seconds of terror at the start) count of songs saved: 0/15 would I listen again: no
Yuck.
Oh, another hip-hop album. I listened to it. I won't again.
Next album already please
It kinda feels like they rap over Lo-Fi and that's it right?
Hip-hop, 31eme album => 1/5
Nope. I started skipping and when I got to Method Man I turned off. Actually I tired Protect Ya Neck. It only improved things mildly. Most of the instrumentation and most of the lyrics were the same so I don't think I missed much.
I lack the time period / cultural context for this album. I enjoy the beat at times; however, I struggle to follow the lyrical flow and meaning. I do not enjoy the taking in-between. Not my style, I guess. I did enjoy the last few songs.
I am a white, middle aged man who has a moustache. I listen to progressive rock music recorded my whiter, older aged men with full beards. Despite their friendly demeanor, this isn't for me.
Terrible
Just not my genre; I recognize the importance the album had but to me it just sounds like the same song over and over again; barely sounds like singing
NO
Total disaster
Okay, there's supposed to be something with Shaolin and some chambers. I'm not into Shaolin or martial arts; that's completely beyond my reach. And I'm sorry, but I don't like the music or the sound of this album either. Maybe the album has a certain significance, but not for me. Hip hop is a genre that completely passes me by. In fact, I'd even say I'm rather against it. Those who like it should enjoy it; for me, it can go. No stars.
Brings the muthafuckin' ruckus!!! Some cool stuff and I get why it’s on the list, but rap just isn't my thing.
American hip hop trash
There is a book called 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. It says that this album still sounds unique. It also says this album can be a master piece or full off well-made nonsense. I strongly lean on later option. To me this is certified garbage.
Hip-hop once again. I listened to two tracks on the album. The usual aggressive screaming. I don't need to hear that. I'm not in the mood for that. The only good thing about the album is that I wasted no time and finished it quickly. 1/5
Liked some of it, not really my preferred style to listen to all the time.
Just not my thing.
1/5
really not my cup of tea
not for me +
Kryptonite for super me
Nah bruh
Absolute shite
1/5 hate talking albums hate rap hate hip hop
Pass
Can't objectively grade it; just not cut for me. 2/10
I guess I can see how people would enjoy it -- not for me, though, which makes it tough to rate this kind of album
Gross. I don’t need rap about torture.
really not my kind of music, didn't enjoy it at all
Bollocks.
Schrott!
Hardcore hiphop I had to struggle to listen to as it is filled with unimaginative basic swearing missing lyrical, descriptive or witty art, which I grew to like in hiphop, although it certainly is not my genre.
Sadly I didn’t take to this one. It all felt very same-y and a bit drab.
never liked wu tang, always felt the martial arts samples were carrying this album's notoriety. Variable lyric quality and often awful delivery, occasionally good beats. 1
The dialogue and lyrics are abysmally, and extremely lame. "Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)" shouldn't even be in the top 1001 albums of 1993. I think 1001Albums has had a bad influence on me. If I continue to listen to these rap albums, I'm going to develop a potty-mouth! 🫢🫢🫢
Dreadful
This was not a pleasant listen. 0 redeeming qualities.
Didn’t enjoy. I’m not afraid of the f word but stringing a bunch of f’s & mf’s isn’t my idea of a good song writing
I just struggle with rap music. just not for me.
Nope...
Utter useless trash. Total shit. Don't even waste time reading this review, just move on.
I don’t really class this as music. It’s more bad poetry with a backing track. In this case, the backing track is a terrible rendition of 1970’s karate film sound effects. Not for me.
sorry, couldn't finish
Tried, but couldn’t listen. Horrible lyrics.
Too much talking and swearing. Good rhythm at times but I certainly wouldn’t volunteer to listen again. 1*
Not a fan.
Misogynistic racist violent , hate music. And zero talent. Why does anyone need to hear this?
Ekliger Rap ohne jegliche musikalische Note. Warum dürfen solche Elaborate mit gefühlt 1000 F & N Worten straffrei gespielt werden aber das Lied mit den “10 kleinen…” muss in “10 kleine Jägermeister” umbenannt werden. Um’s mal in Eurer Sprache auszudrücken “Eh WU-TANG Gang, “Shame On A Nigga” … I will watching you F with your Mother & Your Daughter 🤮”
NOPE!
Wow I don't think I had heard wutang before...those were the good old days.
Not my kind of noise
Not my usual type of music, the beats are a little monotonous. But I see why it’s considered good. Not an album I would choose to listen to again. No songs added to my favourites.
I hate rap
Rap - Hip-hop -- not my taste
Non fa per me
I will never listen to this again in my life
no es mí estilo
Kenne ich nicht
CREAM works. The rest? Not great
Very big influence for rap as we know it. That being said, not my cup of tea.
I just can't get on with hip hop. I hate it. Not even going to review these anymore unless there's something notable to say.
The more I listen to these iconic hip hop albums, the more I confirm that I'm not a fan of the genre. This Wu-Tang Clan debut is my breaking point. It is supposedly one of the best hip hop records of all time, but I spent most of its 58-minute runtime wanting it to end. Repetitive beats, too many skits, just not my thing at all.
Started to listen but this was terrible album
Ei mikää ihmeellinen 2/5 EI, 0/5
it might be less boring for me if I understood more of the lyrics
That's a no from me.
I’m not gonna force myself to suffer through this album. I heard enough.
I’m simply too old now to give a constructive review of this album. When it was released I instantly dismissed it as it was ‘music’ i hated and would switch off from. I took no notice of the hip hop genre as it developed over the years and have no idea who the exponent’s of hip hop are now and I who I still switch off from. As I’m committed to listening to all the albums on this list I streamed it using Roon so to be aware of all the metadata associated with the album. I was also able and wanted to view all the lyrics as to me they are otherwise indecipherable. If I’m missing the point I’m sorry but to me all the songs do is to glorify guns, knives, gang culture and the violence associated. Let alone the misogynist and racist elements which I also find distasteful. If the songs are ‘anti’ these things well OK but to wrap them up as entertainment no thanks. Artists should be able to express their political views and I admire them for doing so but to advocate violence is wrong. Maybe they don’t which is a reason why I know this music is not for me. It exists but not in my world.
Not for me
Hard No!
I do not care for this at all. Would have given it no stars had that been an option.
Not my usual style to start with. It's really not for me, I feel weird listening to half of it. It makes you bop, that's the best I can say. To me it all sounds quite similar, I can't relate to it, nope.
Not my Tang!
Meh.
No me gustó
I tried, but I just can’t do rap
Not my kind of music. 50 times fuck and 50 times the band name don't make it better
0 is not my music
Rap Crap
Naa not ma cheese
I'm just not a fan of these types of rap albums... smdh
I just have no idea what people see in this. I'd rather just listen to the source the samples are from without some loudmouth shouting at me. 13 year old me would like the edgy swearing, but I'm way past that.
This is what you listen to when you aren't deaf but deserve to be.
Not for me
Awful album
Horrible lp Nothing to like about this lp Except the album cover
Some cool lyrics, but not so melodic
Summary: Uninteresting. Lyrics weren't relatable and I ended up subconsciously tuning them out. It didn't help that very few tracks had any kind of melody for my mind to hook onto. Rare, scattered moments of interest, mostly in the track C.R.E.A.M. (the only track that caught my attention for being slightly good). Nice underground-y production but incredibly monotonous. Bring Da Ruckus: Out of the gate, not a sound I enjoy. Thick, bassy percussion is some of the crunchiest I've heard in hip-hop. I would almost describe the backing as hard lo-fi. Still, there's something about this style and arrangement that makes me feel empty. Absolutely nothing. It's not bad, just doesn't evoke anything in me. Lack of melody plays a big part. Hopefully later tracks are more interesting. Shame On a: Just uninteresting. Lyrics are stupid and recited with an aggressively monotonous constant yell. Piano is nice when it shows up, which isn't often. Clan In Da Front: Beginning to get exhausting, and we're less than 8 minutes into the album. Cool three-note bass riff, but they don't vary it in the slightest. Reintroduction of the piano, except this isn't varied either, making the only saving grace of this track another flop. (I'm trying to think of anything good to write about these songs. Seriously.) Wu-Tang: 7th Chamber: Good transition. Non-music conversation was a welcome break at first, but a little too long. Can It Be All So Simple / Intermission: Nothing good until 3:30 when singing starts. Jumps up from a 1-star to a 3-4 star performance during this section. Groovy. Da Mystery of Chessboxin': no new comments. Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nuthing ta F' Wit: no new comments. C.R.E.A.M. (Cash Rules Everything Around Me): Piano lick (dorian mode?) is really strong, but nothing else interesting. Oop, never mind, we got the "dollar dollar bill yall" vocal. Best track so far, but there wasn't much competition. Method Man: This one's pretty catchy at the beginning, but nothing lasts forever. Protect Ya Neck: nothing. Tearz: fuzzied backing vocals at 1:50 were a welcome breath of fresh air, but otherwise nothing. Wu-Tang: 7th Chamber - Part II: nothing.
0 trash not even music
the piano in the background was so creepy at times. reminded me of those free scary flash games
Not my favorite style. Of all the songs though, I did like Protect Ya Neck best. But mostly it was all meh.
Not for me. No review.
1. not my cuppa.
mostly terrible Favorite Song: After Laughter by Wendy Rene
Ik vind rap sowieso een beetje saai en eentonig. Soms zijn de beats nog wel leuk, maar ook dat is op dit album niet het geval. Voor mij is dit album van Wu-Tang niets anders dan een dieptepunt voor muziek.
wu tang clan's first album was very much not for me. i respect it and i know many people today enjoy it still. oh my good gravy, that misogyny! super uncomfy to listen to. this album was a lesson in restraint for me and tested my ideology of listening to entire albums on this project, but i persevered.
Theres alot of 90s hip hop and rap that I enjoy but I missed the boat with Wu Tang Clan. They get my respect for influencing alot of hip hop but I just don't feel it.
I just don't get Hip-Hop, but some people obviously do and that's fine - each to their own. Just not for me.
Not my vibe
Musik för personer med lägre intelligens.
Noise
I still don't get it...
Not my kind of music.
an apology poem: i do not like the wu-tan clan i have not liked any solo albums from the band i do not want killah i do not want kwan i do not want these to continue to go on i've been trying them all i've tried i've tried i must be missing something inside it's not hip-hop - a genre i like but wu family albums are always a swing-and-miss strike i prefer more jazzy hop to my hip like chuck d, the beasties, or q-tip but the clan is annoyingly bland and i don't understand and the next member we have to review is gonna set seriously panned 1/10 1 star
It might have been an important album back then in the early nineties but far from the music I prefer
no
not the genre for me
Nup
As art this album plays like an explosion of color and shapes, rough edges imposed on smooth. ‘Carey like Mariah.”
Wat eentonig, en absoluut mijn ding niet
Just no.
Really not my thing
Total dynga
Offensive and puerile, but more importantly, as music it's just repetitive, uninventive and devoid of melody. Basically it's just words over rythym. Rap doesn't belong on this list, it isn' music - it should be in a separate poetry list.
Sorry, hate this…
Nnnnnnnot my thing
I could not finish listen it.
Same issue for me as with Raekwon's album, I am just not into hip hop, no matter how classic this album is meant to be. This has left me totally cold
Nope. Just nope. Every hip-hop cliche ever made. Beyond terrible.
nope 1/5
Tapped out during the skit where they threatened to stick a hanger up my ass. I recognize these guys: they’ve been telling me I’m “not really black” my whole life. I’m sure it means I’m old, but records like this make me long for the days of Sir Mix a Lot and “Christmas in Hollis. Pardon me while I go listen to Bad Brains.
I like generally rap & hiphop, but I can't stand gangsta rap and this is pretty much just that.
Wait? This is Wu-Tang Clan. They don't sound like what i'd expect them to sound like. Mind you it's an album from the 90's, so that explains a lot.
Это очень плохая музыка Слушать её невозможно
Total crap. I couldn't even make it through the entire album. I like rap, hip hop and all that, but I can do without all the "niggas" and other disgraceful language. Ignorant music for ignorant people. 0/5 but I have to give it 1/5.
Hip Hop begone! 1/5
Más malo que el COVID.
Ni para que molestarse 1
p717, 1993. Rap :( Well done of its type but not my thing at all
bad
This band isn't my styl.
While I can appreciate their influence and legacy on music, this was decidedly NOT for me. Too much swearing and often the sound mixing seemed off, where the vocals and background beat didn't blend into each other
It’s a no from me dawg.
Not my cup of tea at all
I was probably never going to love this, it just isn’t my thing, but for what little my opinion’s worth I didn’t this was very good. All very samey and…inexperienced sounding, I guess, not in a good fresh way. Method Man clearly stands out as having the best flow of the bunch.
полнейший мусор, полная гадость
Not for me
Like ‘Enter the dragon’ the old Bruce Lee film. Only not, because it isn’t a film it’s some angry men shouting.
the skits and stuff really detract from what's already a boring as hell album. Every track was the same as the last, nothing interesting here, no good raps, no good backing tracks. Think I'll stick to good rap.
Album art:1
I don't know as much East Coast rap as West Coast, and having not heard this until I was today years old, I'm not a big fan. Also, ODB was only 25 - just "DB"?
Rap hip-hop begins.
Really couldn't get anything positive out of this. Didn't like the music, but was able to simply ignore most of it except the most annoying tracks such as 7th chamber oder method man. Some of the voice samples/intros/interludes were extremely distracting and annoying. After half of the album I started skipping some parts. For me, clearly the worst album so far.
Liked it at the time, now I can’t listen to it
Beetje te gedateerd wat mij betreft, wel weer eens leuk om die oude rappers te horen.
Garbage.
Hip hop coñazo.
I lasted 27sec...noooooo
did not finish once method man started. no bueno.
