Not my usual thing but clearly fantastic. Like sitting with the most interesting stranger you've met in a bar of late night cafe. A collection of stories really.

First time I've listened to an Arcade Fire album since the revelations about Win Butler. Has really changed how I hear them. The songs are great but the emotional response I had to them has gone. Really sad about it.
Overproduced and boring. I expected it to be better.

Noisy. Good. A couple of really good songs. 4 out of 5.
Ok. Nothing stood out. Feel like Elvis would be a lot better live than on record.
Not my usual thing but clearly fantastic. Like sitting with the most interesting stranger you've met in a bar of late night cafe. A collection of stories really.
Brilliant. Great lyrics, funny, wry.
Ok. Not my thing.
Somehow less than the sum of its parts. Not memorable to me.
Even better than I remember it.
Loved it actually. Sounds like the sun and good food.
Not a huge fan. Noisy but I didn't get excited by it.
Every song sounds brand new. Catchy, edgy, cool.
3 to a 4 just for Stay.
Not memorable.
Interesting and raw but not really a great album.
Brilliant. Colourful, positive, clever, inspiring. Can hear they must have been an influence on Outkast.
Clever and interesting but just lacks good tunes. The last three tracks are really good (Stay Hungry, Take Me to the River and The Big Country) because they have actual melodies. Too much filler in the rest though.
I very nearly loved this. Tight band, singer has a great voice and there are *nearly" some great tunes. I think if I'd discovered this in the early 2000s when The Strokes etc were big it would be part of my canon. As it is only really good because the melodies just aren't quite there. Checked this by listening to Is This It after which I'm sure is a better album.
Goin Back is a good song. The rest is pretty boring.
Overproduced and boring. I expected it to be better.
Perfect running music. Will go back to this a lot.
Pleasant enough. Forgettable.
Fine. Perfectly pleasant with a nice atmosphere but nothing that stood out and made me really pay attention.
This was good. Lots that still sounds really fresh and the band is so tight. There is some samey filler and was erring towards 3 but the last track pushed it to 4 for me. Would relisten.
Liked this more than I expected to. It's poetry to music but LCs voice cracks and whispers and points towards the suggestion of great melody. Easy to see why he's been covered so much.
Pretty boring. Most interesting when it's most personal. Won't listen to this again. One track I think was ok.
Solid 3. Interesting and original and still sounds fun but lots of songs samey.
Yeah really good. Some great tunes and full of attitude. Could hear the ancestral DNA of so many bands in this too: RHCP, Vines, Hives, The Strokes, The Libertines. Great but not quite 5/5 as some songs too samey.
Pretty. Boring. Pretty boring.
Grew and grew on me. It's not my usual thing but every song seems to get better and better the more you listen to it. It's also so technically brilliant. Loved it.
Found this unlistenable. Get it might be ,really innovative, creative etc but not for me.
Like an exemplar for 3! Pleasant enough, good fun, some good memorable tunes but never really lifts off.
Bounces along pleasantly enough.
Interesting and I can see why important but not enough distinct songs to get over three. Obvs huge influence on loads of other bands. Ian Curtis sounds like singer from Editors.
Nice enough with a couple of songs I'd listen to again but all just a bit too twinkly and light to get better than 3.
5. Obviously.
Boring. Really boring.
Loved it. Would have been five if a little shorter with some of the samey filler tracks cut out. Anyday is an exceptional song. Made for listening to while driving into a desert sunrise.
I expected to like this a lot more than I did. Our House is fun and the whole album bounces along with some neat nostalgic lyrics. But somehow it never really turned into anything much more.
Unremarkable. Some neat production and listenable but no songs I'd ever play again or remember. Can't see how it deserves a place on 1001 best albums but not offensive.
My favourite ever album. I deliberately avoid it most of time to stop if feeling familiar so this was a treat. Every song is brilliant. And as always struck by just how heavy they were, how good the musicianship was and the clarity of Kurt's diction. My archetype 5/5.
I get this is fun and in the summer for a barbecue it might be good. But it's long and pretty smaey. And while I don't want to be a prude some of the lyrics are jarring.
Not what I expected at all and really liked it. I don't know what genre it is. Glam?
A hard sort to review as I know I just like this blues country rock genre. Going for 3 as I enjoyed it all the way through and a couple of hooks stood out but not higher as felt no urge to listen to any of them again.
Really liked this. Important and excellent. Can hear so much of what came later in it. Cars.
I get this is important. I can hear the influence it had on other stuff. But the stuff that came after is just.. better.
An entirely different album when listened to on headphones. I'll return to this. Maybe beginning to get the people who reckon Radiohead better after OK Computer are coming from at least.
First time I've listened to an Arcade Fire album since the revelations about Win Butler. Has really changed how I hear them. The songs are great but the emotional response I had to them has gone. Really sad about it.
Had never listened to this all the way through before. BiUSA had me thinking this would be a 5 but then it dipper for a bit with some filler. Then it hits Bobby Jean and into Glory Days, Dancing in the Dark and My Hometown. Can't think of any other album that finishes as strongly. Best song Bobby Jean.
Loud and shouty. Couldn't find a tune. Gave up it half way through.
Brilliant. Sort of heavy but also really beautiful. Loved every song and listened to in repeat the whole day. I just wish it had been longer!
The same song 12 times. But a really good song so that's fine.
Mostly dull.
Just don't like jazz that much.
Twiddly and fiddly and twee and long. Was glad when it was over. I don't like psychodelic rock.
Gloriously silly. Jesus built my hotrod the most fun think I've listened to in ages. Loved it! Some songs too samey for five but may be unfair as suspect in this genre that's part of the point.
Not as good as I remember. Some real classics but mixed in with a fair bit of filler designed to deliberately make it less appealing than nevermind.
Pleasant enough. People who like this sort of thing probably rated it higher.
So bored of psychodelic 60s rock. Pleasant enough but.. boring.
A mixture of Enya and The Cranberries. This sounds damning but I *loved* it. The first time on this I've heard and album on this I'd not heard before and played it on repeat all day. Best songs, Wolf in the Breast, Iceblink Luck and the standout Heaven or Las Vegas.
Very dull.
Would have been a five if the songs were all 2 minutes shorter.
Almost Cut My Hair
Awful. I tried to give this a fair shot by listening to every song, but midway through each I skipped to the next because I found bear it. Then I spent the first half of the next song wondering if the one after could be even worse. Dreadful.
Listened to it while gently pottering around tidying the house on a Sunday afternoon. It was perfectly fine for that.
I'd give this a 3.5 if I could but have gone for 3. It's samey but also the sort of album with songs on that you meet at certain important points of your life and your life feels a film with a soundtrack.
Ew.
I thought I'd hate this but.. loved it? It's like the soundtrack to a brilliant film about the apocalypse which you've never seen. Worth listening to all the way through and just letting your imagination go with it. Will return to it.
