Reviews (page 7 of 13)
- You Make Me Feel So Young is a timeless classic - to be fair everything Sinatra sings immediately feels classic - such incredible vibes - makin whoopee lmao
I mean not much to say aside from incredible voice, incredible band and incredibly 50s lyrics
You can't go wrong with the voice of Sinatra. He is above all times and all other male voices.
Classic Frank Sinatra sound. Great album overall. Sinatra has an awesome voice, the lyrics are clever, and put together with an impressive band filled with brass instruments. The whole album has that classic old feel and is just easy to listen. I think Sinatra will feel timeless for the rest of my life and I imagine I'll listen to this album again.
I want to sit at a blackjack table and sip gin and tonics all day while listening to Frank. He has such a legendary voice and the high intensity horns with the low bass line are a perfect compliment
Well I put this on as background music for work but couldn’t stop listening to his voice and lyrics. Like buttah baby.
Not so much a fan of Sinatra personally but he has a tremendous voice and style
Iconic sound. Need to listen to his other 50s stuff to see if this is run of the mill for this period of Sinatra but regardless I really liked it. Rating: 4.2
Smooth Frank, very smooth. Standouts: You Make Me Feel So Young, I've Got You Under My Skin, Makin' Whoopee, Anything Goes, You're Getting to be a Habit With Me, Pennies From Heaven, How About You? 4/5
Good stuff! I dont have a lot to say about this other than that its a great album full of earworm tracks that will have you upbeat and whistling all day. 4/5
Nice Jazz
Classic Sinatra vibes
I wasn't quite sure what to expect here, but I really quite enjoyed listening to this. I mean, it's not rock and roll, sure. But the guy has a heck of a voice and the tunes are pretty decent on the whole. I preferred the stuff with a bit more swing - You make me feel so young had me wishing I knew how to foxtrot quite frankly. But it's all pretty decent. It's not often that there's a wikipedia article on every song on an album. - and this is the second in three days where that's been the case (Otis Blue was the other). That seems to be a pretty good indication that the album's going to be pretty decent. I wouldn't object to this coming up again on a list. I'm unlikely to listen to it directly, but for a nice dinner as background music, yeah, maybe. It's a solid 4.
I fell asleep to this album. But that was only because I was really tired after work. I gave it a relisten afterwards and it was quite wonderful. Interesting how different it is from the dance songs of today.
Great performance of standards and others
This surprised me. The last Frank album I listened to was horrifically dull but this had my foot tapping throughout. Good stuff
Love
Sinatra was just a fixture in culture by the time I became aware of him, so it's fascinating to learn that the music and era I most associate with him was really a come-back after a period where it was very dubious that his relevance in popular music would survive at all into the post-war era. Anyway, for this kind of music there are peers but no real superiors.
Lighthearted, upbeat arrangements together with Sinatra's distinctive vice makes for a very smooth ans enjoyable record. Spring and summer day mood
It being upbeat jazz makes it very easy to listen to. Sinatra's voice is also amazing here.
Sounds like pure gold. It's pure and sweet.
Great but a bit flat in the end
Just pleasing jazz music
Good album. Great vocals from Sinatra. Some songs are better than others. I've got you under my skin is the highlight of the album. Sinatra makes it his own. Nelson Riddles music complement Sinatras vocals very well.
This was nice! Frank is a legend for a reason, though his stuff does get a little samey. I’ll just go for a Greatest Hits compilation over any given album.
Great background music! Not super engaging but I still enjoyed it.
It’s just good music. Sinatra is known for a reason. Very solid jazz album.

8/10. Good shit
Something about either the selection of songs or the arrangements felt less inspired than other Sinatra we've had. Still decent. 7/10
Great collection with lovely arrangements. Not the cool response, but I think I prefer this to Wee Small Hours.
A classic of the genre, and some great interpretations.
It's weird, listening to an album you've never listened to, but still know all the songs from. I definitely enjoyed this.
Baby, when I think about you, think about Whoooooopee! Baby, can’t live without you, and your Whooooopee! FEEL LIKE MAKIN’ WHOOPEE! FEEL LIKE MAKIN’ WHOOPEE! Feel like makin’ whoopee tooooo yooooou.
The manufactured pop of its day. Easy listening, sometimes a bit syrupy, but very pleasant when I'm in the mood for swingin' ;)
Didn’t this guy rape his girlfriend???
It’s Frank Sinatra. That’s recommendation enough
Some less famous tracks intermingle with Sinatra's iconic greats to make an album that is surprisingly varied in tone and content.
Every song in this albums sounds the same: it sounds good.
pretty good some of his better songs are here
This generator has shown me that I like Sinatra a little bit more than I thought I did. His albums have been pleasant little listens so far. I don't know if I like this one more than the other Sinatra album I got. It was kind of weird to hear Anything Goes, because it made me realize how much I like Cole Porter's version. I missed that nasally voice. Sinatra still did a great job, of course. My favourite songs were I've Got You Under My Skin and You Made Me Feel So Young.
Grandpas music. I think of him. Good stuff
Good for its kind! Like it as a background music when with my love diner.
8/10
I really like this album it’s very nostalgic in a way and his voice is just so soothing. It makes me want to dress up and dance.
8/10 - Really chill and nice album to listen to in the background
How can you not like Frank! Smooth, swanky, and swingin'. Timeless
- loving it, very fun - totally out of my normal genre but might need to listen to more
Standards from the 20s, 30s & 40s sung in a way only Frankie can. Brilliant. 4/5
Enjoyed this. Obviously all the hits! I liked listening to some of the lesser known tracks and as a single piece of work it flows brilliantly.
Great album, Frank Sinatra always has a great vibe that cannot be compared to anything else
Heard this several times before - a real classic. He has an amazing voice.
A striking contrast to the rather dull and dreary 'In The Wee Small Hours' which was released just the previous year. This album is a chirpy and joyful listen, oozing with smooth charm. A timeless classic from Old Blue Eyes. Rating: 4/5 Playlist track: You Make Me Feel So Young Date listened: 19/12/22
Some classics here!
It's a swinging album! Frankie's phrasing is exceptional and Nelson Riddle's arrangements are a match made in heaven.
This was fun and I enjoyed listening to it.
Nice swing album The popular hits are great, some of the other tracks are a bit samey but still pleasant
Great voice.
This was a good album, Frank Sinatra is a great singer. There weren't any bad songs on the album however basically every song sounded the same and from what I've heard i'd assume the rest of Sinatra's discography sounds the same. I still very much enjoyed the album nonetheless. 8/10
4/5. A pretty great collection of songs with it getting a little repetitive near the end. Sinatra has a great way of setting the mood with every song somehow.
hm classic
Such a great calming album. Sinatra’s voice is always perfect for love songs
Actually really liked this album. Really good for background music, might help that I listened to this in December and it sounds a lot like what I'm used to in the background of holiday gatherings.
I've heard he was a twat but man this sounds good
I wish they still wrote songs like this. Again, Sinatra sings them like he owns them.
El contrapunt optimista a 'In the Wee Small Hours...' i, per mi, molt millor disc.
Always liked Frank Sinatra
Great album of standards and Sinatra in his zone. Fantastic
The album generator has me on an old-timey run lately. There are worse things. Who doesn't love all the swingin' lovers out there? This album is exactly what think it will be. Solid big swing band behind a strong confident voice. If that's what you are wanting you won't find better. Might not be appropriate music for every situation but when it's right, this record will hit the spot. Scratch your itch. Swing your lover.
I didn’t particularly enjoy the last Sinatra Album I heard (Wee Small Hours) which I rated as 6/10. In hindsight, I think that was too high a score but it was early in my new album listening hobby. Regardless, I’ve heard from others since then that this album might be more suited to my tastes. Let’s find out! Songs I already knew: You Make Me Feel So Young, I’ve Got You Under My Skin, Anything Goes Favourite after listening: You Make Me Feel So Young, I’ve Got You Under My Skin Overall: 8/10 This whole album made me feel warm. It is like a cosy fireside and hot chocolate album. It also feels a little Christmassy, despite none of the music being about Christmas at all. Whereas Wee Small Hours was a song about being depressed, Songs For Swingin’ Lovers couldn’t be more different - it is about love and happiness throughout, and the composition of the music reflects this. This made for a much more enjoyable experience as a newcomer to the album. Overall, an easy album to recommend for anybody that enjoys swing music and a good crooner.
Big vibes, big memories for me personally. I think could seem corny through a modern lens BUT the voice is butter. The lush instrumentation feels like - St Vincent or Belle and Sebastian could never. Definite source material, origin story for a lot of popular sounds and or samples in modern music.
Frank sinatra har swag
Sinatra is Sinatra, great music
Swag
Nothing beats swingin'!
So many good memories tied to these songs. I sound old...
The Sultan of Swoon did not disappoint.
pog
Puts the Easy into Easy Listening.
Good egg-making music :)
Slightly repetitive, but I'm into it.
Everything I expected. Frank being Frank. Luscious instrumentation, silky smooth vocals, swinging beat. Only song that's a bit, uhm, is the make whoopie track. Don't know why I have the memory of a version of "Under My Skin" where the band stops at the lyric, "stop" instead of at the end of that line.
Classic
Heard before: no I was expecting to hate this/be bored, but the band was tight and Sinatra’s singing was kind of charismatic. The vibe of the whole album was infectious, and definitely something you could throw on in the kitchen or with guests over.
4.4 - I appreciate having one album that showcases all of Frank Sinatra's charms that isn't a compilation of greatest hits or holiday songs. My opinion on this is certainly not insightful. Sinatra is the consummate party host - a real crowd-pleaser though I never feel like he condescends to connect with me directly. These recordings and arrangements are impeccable - truly a pinnacle in big band jazz music for a popular audience. While I can't think of a time I'd be excited to listen to this record, it does have an uncanny way of livening a mood while adding a dash of class to any occasion.
Część piosenek już była
I'm not a swingin' lover and even I could appreciate this album.
Every Sinatra's song sounds the same, but I love to hear that song over and over.
Not different from what I've heard from the man, but still good.
It's good. Gave me Fallout ptsd flashbacks. It sounds old, but that's thr charming thing about it. Like a cliché movie with a good and happy ending. 4/5
Love some Frank
A lovely collection of songs, and perfect phrasing and timing from Ol' Blue Eyes. The songs are too familiar for this to feel like an exciting new discovery, but songs like I’ve Got You Under My Skin don’t comae along very often. A masterclass in songwriting and understated arrangements, performed by a champ.
Classic. Timeless.
Frank Sinatra is a great artist. The soft jazz sounds, alongside Sinatra's wonderful voice work make this a really solid album, though without many standout songs. I enjoyed the theme kept throughout the album as well, both lyrically and musically. It's an enjoyable listening experience and has a very specific vibe to it which can be a great fit for certain situations.
Pura música bonita en este disco. El highlight obligado es I've Got You Under My Skin pero también sobresalen It Happened in Monterey y Too Marvelous For Words.
Browsing through the reviews in here, it's striking to see that almost no participant bothered to write a long one this time. I take it as a sign that most listeners decided to show respect for this historical relic in one way or another (hence its nice 3-point-something overall score), but that not all of them were personally enthused. And now that I have listened to this album from start to end, I think I'm gonna do the same and make it short. Not every song in here is as memorable as "I've Got You Under My Skin". But it's still an iconic sort of record, and some of the orchestral arrangements slap very hard, actually more than in the drowsier *In The Wee Small Hours*. Overall, swinging Sinatra holds out better than balladeer Sinatra today. Oh, except for *one* later song, "It Was A Very Good Year", one of my favorite ballads of all time, far from all those christmas-sort-of-standards Frank *also* specialized in. But that song is gonna come up later in Old Blue Eyes' career if I'm not mistaken... In the meantime, and as far as albums are concerned, *Songs For Swingin' Lovers* deserves its reputation as a record filled with the best of what the big-band-propelled genre has to offer. Way to go, Frankie! Number of albums left to review or just listen to: 871 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 71 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 31 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more important): 28
Love his stuff !!! Enjoyed
Loved it So many oldies! Grandpa Kleins favorites!
Fantastic album, some bangers on here, You Make Me Feel So Young, It Happened in Monterey, and I've Got you Under my Skin. I also really liked You're getting to be a habit with me. I laughed at Making Whoopee as well. Those dangerous and probably profane for the time lyrics haha.
Another from Sinatra! Probably also on the short list for some of the earliest concept albums, but the concept here is a lot less compelling than In the Wee Small Hours. Lots of big band swinging joints on here, and a few of those old classics we all know and love. A great album to listen to, even if it’s not his high water mark. I’ve always got a soft spot for Frank. Favorite tracks: You Make Me Feel So Young, I’ve Got You Under My Skin, Pennies from Heaven, Too Marvelous for Words, How About You? Album art: Very vibrant, a classic design style from that era. Really dig this one. 4.5/5
Incredible pipes matched by a jubilant band. Terrific wordplay, sung with an appreciative wink and smile. They don't make 'em like... etc
Frank's easy listening crooning has permeated our culture to such an extent that after listening to this I put on a tracksuit and whacked off some mooks. Fave track - "Anything Goes"! ✌️

I had a moment with The Rat Pack. I was dating a girl in college who loved them and had other musical preferences that I fully endorsed, which opened the door in my narrow mind. I specifically remember a day in Indianapolis driving around to the art museums, downtown, coffee shops, canals. This felt like a fitting soundtrack. Frank Sinatra is great. I prefer Dean Martin even though he isn't as good a singer. But mostly, I'm glad that the early Rock n' Rollers saved us from another couple decades of this stuff. BUT - This stuff has a time/place/setting when its the perfect thing to put on. No idea how important this record is in the Sinatra catalog, but it deserves a 4/5 for the sheer volume and the backing band is so great.
I mean it's Frank! Nothing more Frank than Frank (except for maybe CANNOLIS!) Forget about it.
a classic. I don't like this genre as much, but definitely understand why it is ranked so high.
I was good. Not normally my thing but I rather enjoyed it.
Classic Swing, Classic Sinatra, you can't ask for more from "Ol' Blue Eyes" than this album full of American Song Book classics. My Personal Favourite "Anything Goes" & "Makin' Whoopee" Rightfully on the list and still....so cool!
The oldest record I have made so far, from 1956, and almost the oldest on the book itself. There are not many records on the pages before this one, and the first listed is also from Frank, one year prior to this one. Which makes me think that the decades of the 30s and 40s were completely ignored. Further research shows that the first 12" 33 1/3 RPM Long Play record was introduced in 1948, so it kind of makes sense. Still, in the setting of this challenge/game I would have loved to be able to go further down history than the 50s. Now, back to Songs For Swingin' Lovers! (The exclamation mark belongs on the title) What can I say? According to the book, it's the record that defined the pop format with all the songs clocking at 3 minutes in average. For me it's like time travel, to a time where the way relationships were conceived was quite different than today's, and there is a really romantic and soothing quality about that, in the sense that things seemed to be quite easier, that there was this sort of candor and innocence that western culture was about to definitely (and irreparably so) lose in the following decade. It really encapsulates the ultimate nostalgic feeling, and I wonder if it was intended to be that way at the time of recording. Although I don't really love it, I still like Frank's music and his character. He makes me think a lot about my father, who was also this type of charming gentleman from another era who never wore a pair of blue jeans (well, unless he was BBQing). But at the same time, a line like "I know I am the slave, you're the queen" is a line I never need to hear in life. A nice companion for a cloudy day.
Makes me want to go to a key party.
Delightful always enjoy a bit of Frank
Nice to dance around to
I'm from New Jersey. My wedding was catered by a man who had more pictures of Sinatra in his store, than I have of my own mother in my house. I've been to more weddings where the first dance song was Sinatra than all other songs combined. Sinatra is so much background to my youth and growing up, that I simultaneously enjoy him, and tune him out. My personal bias aside, it's nice to see him included in this list. I still enjoyed it, even the "kids these days are degenerates" anthem "Anything Goes". Favorite tracks: "Anything Goes", "I Thought of You", "You Make Me Feel So Young"
Me gustó. Frank Sinatra no falla.
4,5 actually, iconic voice, released in 1956, he couldn't actually do more than that when it comes to instruments, he has some better songs of course (the classics) but still the disc on a very good level
Pretty fun album.
bom.
What a voice.
A Classic from Frank Sinatra for sure. While not every track hits, this whole album was just plain fun to listen to. Here's the gist, if you like the Fallout game's upbeat radio music, you'll like this album. Favorites: "You Make Me Feel So Young", "Too Marvelous For Words", "I've Got You Under My Skin"
first listen such a smooth voice, great backing band
I mean ... it's Frank!
Muy buen disco
This is one of my favorites! So charming, lightweight, and easy to listen to.
a classic
I mean it's a good album for when I am feeling pretty good. I Really only listen to Sinatra around Christmas. But this album was solid.
Oooooo it's a smooooooooth one
Bitchin'
A great surprise! Very upbeat and theatrical
elegant and relaxing, classic
swingin'!
I generally like this. While some of the songs are lame, Frank makes them good. He has a hell of a voice but also has charisma. You don't have to see Frank to see his charisma. His charisma is there when you listen to his records and also evident from his pictures.
My co-judge says she likes this except for the parts where the trumpet section blasts in unison. I like his delivery, the way the songs swing and the lyrics, especially in the funnier songs like Makin’ Whoopee. I keep thinking of all these young tin-pan-alley guys grinding out tunes hoping someone like Frank would pick them up. I’ve always wanted to hear Frank at his very best, because, in much of what makes it onto the radio, he’s past his prime. I think he's a great singer but if I were to judge him purely on his voice, I prefer the silkier voices of his not-quite-as-famous-or-prolific peers like Dean Martin or Mel Torme.
Easy listening, it's Frank Sinatra so you should know what you're getting. Enjoyed this album, keeps a consistent tone throughout. "Makin Whoopee" was a little smutty, keep it clean Blue Eyes!
Just fun swing
Charisma out the ears
There's a reason why Sinatra is synonymous with having a gorgeous voice. Dude can sing. Swing isn't my normal style but I have to say this album is really amazing.
Makin' whoopee is the best title I've heard in a while.
Doesn't get more classic than this.
Smooth. You don't get to be a legend unless you're really good. Sinatra's voice just carries. And it's so free and easy. His backing band is pretty good too. The album holds up pretty well, I'll bet even my kids wouldn't totally hate it (and they hate anything not made in the last 10 years). I'm pretty indifferent when it comes to jazz but much respect here.
Smooth as smooth can be. He does have a good voice, and I don't mind a bit of jazzy crooner big band when it's done right. And having some old-time music after a couple of weeks of 1980s-1990s heavy stuff was nice. Weird to think my grandad probably had this on the turntable back in '56.
magical
Classic tracks sung by a great singer. What's not to like
Melódico. Suave. Jazz, swing
J’adore frank sinatra .
Rating: 8/10 Best songs: You make me feel so young, I’ve got you under my skin
Mmmmhmmmm. Franks velvet-y pipes always put people at ease and help set the mood. I'd imagine this is the preferred soundtrack when attending those suburban beef and pole hopping swinger parties.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume that "swingin' lovers" didn't mean the same thing in 1956 as it does now. Classic Sinatra though.
While Frank is not my go-to crooner (I'm a Mel Torme fan), there's no denying the power of ol' Blue Eyes. This collection of songs of the great American songbook is a master class in performance by one of the best ever. Sometimes Frank's phrasing bugs me, but other times the story he tells in his timbre and range can't be beat. His backing orchestra under the masterful baton of Nelson Riddle does seriously swing, bringing the whole package to the highest level.
//Favs: – Score: Light 4
7/28 Consistently smooth classic love songs. Standout Tracks: You Make Me Feel So Young, You're Getting to Be a Habit With Me, Old Devil Moon, Makin' Whoopee, How About You?
Classic and timeless. There’s a reason almost everyone like Sinatra. Listening to this makes me feel like I’m in New York City.
Quite a few classics, even though I never liked his voice.
How can you go past some absolute classic Sinatra? Its a pleasant listen and kind of reminds me of a simpler time. Classic big band sound, dulcet tone of Frank how can you go wrong? Best: I've Got You Under My Skin; Anything Goes Worst: We'll be Together Again; Swingin' Down the Lane
this just sounds perfect lol it doesnt make me feel melancholic as i wouldve thought, instead im all floaty and in a good mood lol. im surprised im liking sinatra so much. ill probably comeback to the two records i got so far. not something I’ll be in the mood for often but really nice
-Frank reminds me so much of my Dad. The voice alone -I see why he was so famous -Has no real narrative opening/closing like contemporary albums. Starts on a high
Lovely album well crafted with fine arrangements to compliment the voice.
I adore this man's music. While the album itself doesn't have any *particularly* memorable songs, this was super pleasant and thoroughly enjoyable. Good job Frankie :))
A good old swing album, nothing too advanced.
La “voz” siempre será la voz
Enjoyed far more than "wee small hours" - I prefer more upbeat.
One of the key voices of the 20th Century. A real singer of the "Great American Songbook." Swing/Jazz. BT: You Make Me Feel So Young, I've Got You Under My Skin, Anything Goes
Classic album by a great singer. I need to be in the mood for Sinatra, though, and I didn't like the take on \"Anything Goes.\" Wonderful band and arrangements. I listened to it twice.
I promise I was listening to the other ones. I just didn’t realize I didn’t have to type and could just rank songs. While I’m typing... this gave me these vibes: 1-Christmas 2-Antiquing 3-A&W 4-Parent Trap Idk that’s just the tea
Too many classics to be less than a 4
Hard not to love the vibe of this
Great album
Música cincuentera.
Classic Sinatra. "You make me feel so young" is the best song. 8/10.
"Too Marvelous for Words" y "Love is Here to Stay" creo que son las que más me gustaron. 8/10
Sinatra being Sinatra
Classic album! Many great songs - Pennies from Heaven, I've Got You Under My Skin, etc.
definitely songs for lovers. great to add one or two in a larger mix.
Classic Sinatra.
Upbeat great tunes to just chill to with yo boo 4.1
Very enjoyable, some classic songs on here. Maybe only one dud toward the end of the album.
mini short songs yesssss. this really was perfect for swingin’ lovers wow. 4 but only just
timeless. Classic romantic album
Corny lyrics...but it was a different time...
I literally have no complaints
classic! i prefer his concept records but this is a real crowd pleaser. fav track: makin' whoopee
Not something I would listen to every day, but Frank Sinatra is obviously a legend. Every track was catchy
Not my favorite but Frank does it again
Great album from Old Blue Eyes!
2 classics but the rest were alright
Charming, in his bag, sexy Frank absolutely > sleepy wee hours Frank
Great kitchen music. But a lot of it sounds the same after awhile. Mid tempo, cool music. Frank's voice is undeniable. Liked it, not sure if I'd return to it but it was nice to get something on here that wasn't Brit-pop.
Wish I could give this a 3.5, Frank is always good
Bell’album dalle vibe invernali o primaverili
Ouvi metade.
I already really like Frank Sinatra, so actually getting more into his music is exciting and a great way to start this music-listening journey. Also, I enjoy vocal pop a lot, so this is great. I didn't get a great listen to it though.
Ok - so the voice is undeniable. Smooth & precise. He can really sing & he evokes a 50s America like few if anyone else. But I don’t like the crooning smooching arrogance.
Every time I listen to my boy Frank, I have a Pavlovian response and salivate for unlimited soup, salad, and breadsticks. It hits better when I'm eating chicken and gnocchi, otherwise pretty bland, but its smooth at least.
It was pretty good. Under My Skin and Make Me Feel So Young were my faves but it wasn't a wowwing album.
has the same problems and strengths as In the Wee Small Hours: gets a bit samey and is cheesy at times, but has an undeniable sense of mood, atmosphere, and effortless swagger. Frank Sinatra does sappy ballads well, shocker. deserves to be one of the 1001? i think it's a decent idea to add another Sinatra after In the Wee Small Hours, and it makes sense to have something fun to balance the moody album. yeah, i think this one earns its place!
didnt listen to it fully, its not the kind of music i would play but its still good i think, its just not my thing so i really don’t know how to rate it
It’s Sinatra! You probably already know how you feel about him. What do you need me for?
Bella voce, belle basi, molto monotono l'album
Nice smooth jazz.
This kind of big band music always makes me feel like I’ve been dropped into some old Hollywood movie, and honestly, that’s a pretty good feeling. Frank Sinatra sounds smooth and confident throughout, gliding over playful, adoring lyrics while the brassy band swings in behind him like it owns the room. That being said, the album doesn’t deviate much from that formula, so it can wear a little thin after a while. Variety isn’t exactly its strength, but as a snapshot of that classy sound of yesteryear, it still has a certain magic to it.
I listened to this album in the car and thought it was a very cohesive album. The songs all sound like they come from the same album which I like. Although not something I would usually listen to, I thought this was a pleasant listen. Kind of felt like I’d been transported back to the 50s. Lyrics are basic but sweet and romantic. Overall very interesting listen with some songs I already knew so was nice to listen to this album in full to see where they come from.
Like it 3/5
Not bad but if you’ve heard one Sinatra song, you’ve heard them all.
Yeah. Undeniably well arranged and well executed. Frank’s the smoothest, swingiest, safest blue eyed songster of them all. It makes me long for Louis and Ella. 3 Boolean: true
Yes, Imediately I feel like I am in one of those romcom musical films from the 1950/60s. The cover literally looks like it's from a film. The second song is kind of like christmas music but for spring- specifically the opening part. Although every song has it's own individual begining and end, this album feels constant. Narrative like. Like a big show with lots of kicking and moving scenes. I'm literally falling asleep (not because of album) but if Frank keeps singing any slower i'm not gonna be able to finish this album. Okay I liked a lot of the songs nearing the end. Dangerous to listen to when sleepy but that was quite nice to be honest. I did find some of this music to be performatively romantic though. Like I can picture the dramatic swooning from audience members.
FS comes in smooth and sweet. Classics from a time so different.
I always enjoy a little Sinatra. Good stuff. Felt like a swingin lover listening to this.
Puur vakmanschap.
Enjoyed more than I expected even if the album as a whole felt quite samey
There’s a reason Frank Sinatra is synonymous with lounge and swoon. He has a voice and a style that draws you in, he can pick up a song make this, then move on to the next. This is a great collection of songs that will tickle your ears, but as an album it’s nothing phenomenal. Chuck it on in the background, when you’re cooking, eating with friends or having a chill Sunday afternoon.
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed listening. Top hits were it happened in Monterrey and our love is here to stay
It's hard to deny it's a well made album I just didn't feel strongly about it in either direction. My grandparents ate it up though.
It’s fine. He’s a great crooner.
It's not bad so I feel like I have to give it a 3. But not something I'll return to outside 1-2 songs.
Favorite track(s): You Make Me Feel So Young, Old Devil Moon, I've Got You Under My Skin, Anything Goes
Listen, would I sit there and listen to this voluntarily? No. But can I in good conscience rate it anything lower than 3.5/4? Also no. This is the Ray Charles conundrum all over again and the reason this challenge currently thinks my favourite genre is 'soul'. I will say, Ray Charles had more variety on his albums to keep me interested all the way through. This album, by contrast, feels redundant. I don't know that I'll come away from this feeling like any of these songs have really stuck in my head. I also feel the need to knock half a star off for how much I hate 'Makin' Whoopee' so I guess this is getting a flat 3.
This one can be summed up two ways. Songs for Swingin' Lovers is obviously compiled with romance in mind. If you're looking for something a little slinky and a little spicy, Sinatra has your back. In that scenario I'd say you could add a full point to the score. For anyone else, there are better Frank Sinatra collections out there. All that said, I could listen to him sing from the dictionary and still enjoy it.
Your grandparent's favorite singer. It's good, but a little one note. Remember, don't touch the hi-fi.
Sinatra is nice. 3.5-ish for me.
An iconic voice and sound, not sure I could listen to it consistently
Sinatra has a ridiculous voice and when he hits he really hits, however his songs all sound the same and lack variety. So really you only need to listen to a couple of his big hits- and My Way isn't even on this album. All we get is Under My Skin and You make me feel so young. Oh and Anything Goes is here I guess. Mid.
Review: This is a good album from an amazing artist. The sound throughout the album was pretty similar but there were definitely some highs and lows. The best song for me was without a doubt I’ve got you under my skin. The instrument work on this song was amazing. The worst song was Makin Whoopee. That was straight up noise pollution. Overall this was a solid album.
svingerite sving
Uplifting swing from Frankie and his big band. Great sound.
Schwingtastic.3*
Something, something New York in June. Let's go Knicks!!
Classic
"Hey baby, this album swings baby! It feels good to croon so I'll croon all over here. Who loves ya, baby?" Okay, that last one was just Kojak. Top tracks: "You Make Me Feel So Young," "Makin' Whoopee"
bog standard 3. fun listen. I'm sure I'll revisit parts from time to time. onward.
Parlour music…
OK
Swing isn't my thing, but it was alright. Keeping this in a corner of my Spotify account lmao.
It swings alright! A collection of pleasant big band songs that is very expected from Frank Sinatra. Also the Cole Porter version om Anything Goes is obviously superior.
3/5
Fine. What i expected it to be
I mean it was alright? Every song is kinda the same but cool album for a sunny good day mood. It is frank Sinatra at the end of the day 🥲
Each song sounds good, but really similiar to the others. Albums alright ig. Update: it's feels better on secone listen
Pretty good, definitely that Sinatra vibe you picture. I enjoyed it but probably wouldn’t listen to it again.
romantiksells
Currently watching Mad Men and I feel like I should be courting a mistress wearing a fedora and smoking 2 packs a day. The song Making Whoopie? crazy.
Pleasant, but not very interesting. 6/10 Pretty Good
Clássico, legal, porém bem fora do meu gosto.
It’s not bad, but it doesn’t hold my attention either.
The sound of this music is synonymous with its era. I can't help but think of a classy nightclub, a night on the town, or many of the motion pictures Frank Sinatra himself might be starring in. The album feels like it's full of standards... often ones where Sinatra's version is the gold standard. If I'm listening to this type of music, he's the one I want singing it.
It's not my favorite Sinatra thing, I like the Basie albums most. But, it's still Nelson Riddle Orchestra and Sinatra, so kinda hard to go wrong.
who up sinatring their frank
Treacle toned, masterfully delivered, hackneyed.
A whole album of crooning is a too much for me. A song here-and-there sprinkled into a larger swing record is fine but the I find the voice annoying after awhile. The music is great though. I do love the big band swing sound.
i like sinatra, but also his albums dont make much sense since its just singles put together.
good
Loads of cute lyrics and masterful playing from the king of jazz himself, Frank Sinatra. Personally, I love putting his stuff on in the background and vibing or doing some art. Very calming experience. 3/5
probably wont return to this much not bad but i definitely prefer wee small hours. and waaay prefer non-vocal jazz tbh
Songs for making me snooze. I can't muster up much hate for Frank Sinatra's music. Nor can I muster up much enthusiasm for it. I had friends in the 90s who loved Frank and even then, to me, it felt anachronistic. Yeah, he's got a great voice. 100% But when I listen to him, I either get hints of Christmas albums or 50s/60s lounge clubs with fedoras and martinis. There's not much else there for me. Sooo, I'm giving this a big fat 3 on the grounds of it being so very mid.
I enjoyed it. It was exactly as I thought it would be. He has a great voice and yet I have a hard time feeling a lot about it.
3/5 - You know exactly what this is going to sound like before you put it on, and it sounds exactly like that. It's pleasant and professional. Yes, you should hear what Frank Sinatra sounds like before you die, if you somehow have no idea.
Silly gigolos makin’ whoopee
Listening to an entire Sinatra album in one sitting is a bit much
i like frank's voice but don't find it all that emotionally affecting the accompanying band tho, is tops daddy-o
a pleasant album. i like frank and the whole rat pat aesthetic. really only one of the 'hits' i know frank for - "i've got you under my skin". i know the song "pennies from heaven", and like it, but i think we can all agree the louis prima version is superior.
That's Frank alright
All the songs feel similar to each other, they aren't bad but I can't tell them apart in my mind after having listened to the record
Cheesy, feels like the musicians have to hold back to make space for Frank. Not very interesting
Trevligt måste man ju säga 3/5
Frank only does one trick, but it’s a pretty good trick. Also, I watched a tv series dramatizing the making of the Godfather and it made Sinatra look like a huge prick who tried to have the mob kill the movie because he didn’t like how the obvious Sinatra-style singer was portrayed.
Anything Goes, yaaaaaa
Oh Sinatra we know just how hard you fucked king. Smoothest gangster in the game Only downfall of this album is all the songs sound the same but they are still delightful
Buen disco, tampoco para echar cohetes.
A typical 50s album - very sentimental, most songs sound extremely similar, and it clearly would work best in a dance hall setting. Unfortunately, I find it painfully dull and repetitive. It feels like half the songs have the same hook; I literally had to double check multiple times that Spotify wasn't malfunctioning. Clearly plenty of people like this stuff, but I am very much not the audience. Score subject to change (to a 2) in the future - for now I find it boring but not overtly bad.
Well I didn't mind this too much, more pleasant than I expected but I don't know that I'll come back to it.
3/5
Meh... Just ok. Not great
It's good, but not something I'd listen to all the way through in one sitting
No denying he's got a great voice but, to my mind, this is just good background music.
Frank Sinatra always sounds like he's basically talk-singing. Like his singing is one-notch above talking. Frank Sinatra has that domestic abuse vibe. But I guess that's kinda hot to some people? He's definitely having one-too-many whiskeys and smacking around his wife when she says something smart. It's fun to listen to. If you were looking to put the moves on someone and you were both doting on each other, and say you invited them over to a meal that you were gonna cook, and you timed it where this was playing when they got there and during dinner (with proper lighting), and assuming the food was delicious, it could really work well and likely lead to a trip down to pound town. I do actually like this. It has a certain effect, an overall charm, albeit one that might leave you with a mark that you'll explain as an accident that occurred on account of your own clumsiness. Always so clumsy, falling and bruising all the time. Stupid in love, stuck in a cycle of abuse.
Aged well, very smooth
Different era but interesting Hadn’t listened to a lot of Sinatra
Sinatra isn't my favourite, but it's fun to hear the way he plays with the delivery of the lyrics to make each song almost sound conversational. Have to love the bass clarinet on "You're Getting To Be A Habit With Me."
Can't go wrong with Sinatra. I feel like I'd enjoy cooking a spaghetti dinner to this. Nothing special though, felt like one long song as there wasn't really much variation. I don't know how much creativity in music was happening in the 50s, feels like a lot of these albums from then fall into that same trap of sounding all the same. But maybe thats just what people were into at the time.
D:
Pleasant but very samey
Lovely album, not something I would choose to listen to usually, and I feel I'd have to be in a certain mood to enjoy it. 3/5.
The most 'Frank Sinatra' Frank Sinatra album that you'll ever hear. Every song is just pure Sinatra in all his glory. Charming, crooning, swinging and singing. Which is fine, but gets a bit repetitive halfway in. An overall enjoyable listen, though.
A very pleasant and nice listening experience! The songs definitely blend together but not much to complain about. His voice was one of a kind! Top Songs: You Make Me Feel So Young, Anything Goes
Any Olive Garden veteran circa 1996-2005 knows most of these songs by heart. From the first verse, I had a brief moment of PTSD as I was transported to being in the weeds on a Friday afternoon juggling neverending pasta bowls, all you can eat soup and salad, and waters with lemon. After some internal reassurance and deep breathing, I remembered I am no longer working the OG FOH, and I relaxed enough to enjoy some Frank. And to all those old pearl clutchers who were determined to censor our music in the 80s and 90s, shame on you. "Makin Whoopee" is just scandalous you old biddies.
I guess, but they all sound the same.
