Reviews (page 6 of 13)
This is just love, pure and simple. It is not pretentious, possessive, or overtly sexist. It is just pretty and beautiful. I really like You Brought a New Kind of Love to Me and Too Marvelous for Words, they were just about pure love. All the songs were really short, which is kind of nice. Each song was its own feeling or expression of love, so the variety in this kind of music was beautiful. For me it did start to blend together, and if I wasn't focused on different songs I missed that it had changed. I do always question singers from this genre on how much is original or how much are covers, so I do wonder that (I know Anything Goes was a musical and that was the title song). But even if not original he did bring life to these songs with his beautiful voice. His voice, very few compare, I would love him to sing me every one of these songs all day long.
поддамся на оценки и поставлю 4. хоть весь альбом и идет фоном, но такой он приятный и атмосферный прямо вот хочется зимой в красивом платье смотреть на огни за окном в бархатных интерьерах
Music to my ears. A smooth sounding voice backed up by a big band sound. It doesn't get much better than that.
banger. full of classics.
The recording, the instrumentals, the voice, can’t really be imitated. To someone born in 2002, Frank Sinatra always feels like this hazy, rose-tinted window to the past. This also made me think of Christmas songs. It’s only November 8th. Boo. 👎
I think big band stuff like this is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine, particularly Sinatra. It's really evocative of a classic, golden age in America. And Christmas, even though these aren't Christmas songs. It's completely formulaic, feels more like light entertainment than music really but I enjoyed it all the same. Like some other albums we've had, I would definitely listen to this again in the right circumstances but I'm unlikely just to wack it on for the commute.
A lot of slow and medium swing, but hey, it swings! Frank has some killing phrasing and rhythmic security that some of his contemporaries were missing out on. He's not an improviser, but it feels spontaneous, which counts for a lot in this era.
Awwwe Good ol Frankie. I wonder which songs this one has on it... The 50's would have been such a magical time to live in. 4 stars.
Just so friggin smooth. While I was born too late for his prime, it's obvious how talented he was
Favorite Track: Makin Whoopee
Overall: 8/10 I absolutely adore how lively ol' blue eyes sounds on this album. Some of these songs have been so huge to pop culture in general that it's shocking to hear that they all come from the same album. I wish I could go back in time and hear these songs in the 50s. I'm also one of the few people (that I've seen) that prefers Sinatra's version of Pennies from Heaven to Luis Prima's, though Prima is a legend as well. Fav Song: Pennies from Heaven Least Fav Song: Anything Goes
Gotta hand to Frankie. This is an interesting concept album. Taking the same song and tweaking it for 15 songs is not something I seen before. Truly nobody like Frank Sinatra can match such a feat. Ok, jokes aside, this album should be a 3 from me. It REALLY lacks variety. But it’s still Frank Sinatra. And to me personally, he’s my favorite performer from this decade. His voice is timeless and at the very least, it’s good music to chill and loosen my mind to. And it’s probably the best the 50’s will get for me, so I’ll be nice and rate on a curve. Just this once. Favorite track: You Make Me Feel So Young Other hits: Idk man, just pick anything else. They sound similar.
It will never occur to me to put this on again, but whilst I played it I had a nice time.
Is this a pinnacle of pop music in the 1950s? Perhaps. We'd call this collection "standards" of the American songbook at this point, but this is a stellar album in a year that would see the ushering in of a brand new phenomenon with Elvis Presley's first album released from RCA. This combination of 40 year old Frank Sinatra and the Nelson Riddle Orchestra results in an almost flawless collection of pop classics from the legendary crooner. This is meticulous and disciplined big band swing jazz that provides a dynamic, but unobtrusive landscape on which Sinatra's peerless phrasing and timing sketches scenes of young love and passion. These songs are so ubiquitous now in soundtracks and as period pieces that it is hard to imagine what a stunning album this would have been and still is if you take the time to listen to it.
Olden but golden
Frank Sinatra albums are always Frank Sinatra albums. You won't feel too many musical changes or adjustments to his sound. This is an album where the context around the album is almost as important as the music, as this is Frank Sinatra's attempt to have an even jazzier sound. I admittedly am not sure I like this jazzier sound as much as I like some of Frank's other music. I guess I like saddish Frank more than I like the happy swingin' Frank. Good background music, even if I am not at Olive Garden.
I enjoyed this! Nice n vibey for Friday
good
Depressing Sinatra still better but yeah the instrumentation and melodies on this one are insane, willing to give some of the most meh romantic writing ever done a pass.
All the songs sound the same, but it's very easy listening because of Sinatra's smooth voice and the swingin' band. Why do James Durante's looks give him a thrill? I'm guessing that's some sort of joke.
Sinatra's voice and phrasing is incredible.
It sounds amazing. Trouble is the big band technique makes so many songs sound similar. It needed mixing up a bit. Great though.
195/1001
Not my favorite genre but it’s hard not to get into a frank sinatra album.
Frank sounds great - bands sound good too. Some excellent songs and I prefer the fact that the album is mostly uptempo songs.
Didn’t get to listen to it all the way but it had so many bangers
Sounds great, but I just do not care for the music at all. Sinatra is a one of a kind.
3.8 - It was nice, but sometimes feel like it reminds me of stuff I hear in Thunderbirds.
Love frank
Stærke produktioner og virkelig catchy sange, synes det var en fremragende plade, også en del mere end jeg lige havde regnet med
An early pop classic. His voice was certainly great at this point. Hard to not like this.
Just a classic sound. Sinatra's voice is strong enough to carry what otherwise might be a boring collection of standards.
Absolutley love Frank Sinatra. You could literally play him tying his shoes and I would listen. Fantastic album.
pretty cool, love the drums tone and the pacing of the album not much a fan of the story, but sinatra's delivery is amazing every track I love the horns
The king of the croon! Amazing arrangements, lovely uplifting songs, beautiful voice. A stone cold classic and one of Franks absolute best.
Freakin sweet. Lil repetitive but a great package
Just had Elvis' debut yesterday which came out this same year which seems anachronistic. I am not a Sinatra fan - the whole persona combined with often-schmalzy vocals are usually just a "just pass, Milton..." from me. e.g. his slower stuff - especially the album "In The Wee Small Hours" grows painful after a few minutes. But ok, this one is alright and maybe even fun. Maybe I'm just picturing the ice-skating scene from Elf during "You Make Me Feel So Young" but it's more upbeat, and has that stereotypical upbeat happy feel. More than the ~45 minutes here would be too much and while swing is nowhere near a genre I generally like.... I don't have anything bad to say about this - this'll be my go-to album when I reach for my fedora. 7/10 4 stars.
Can't go wrong with a good old Frank Sinatra, can you?
Wonderful classic. Frank Sinatra is incredible. 8/10
Frank Sinatra! Waht else can I say. A fantastic record with lovely songs. Two of them were already favorite of mine.
Half the movie soundtracks are on this one album
This is a great album!
Pretty classic crooner swing...
Music that makes me wanna drink a manhattan
Day230 - i enjoy the hits but it happened in monterey was my favorite. the line”broke somebody’s heart and i fear it was mine” is a good one
Classic!
Música cincuentera. Un 4.
Good and smooth, there is probably a better Sinatra album out there, but enjoyable.
Sinatra is easily one of the best singers in the world. The orchestra is also really good and enhances his singing. The album is pretty good overall but the songs do sound similar after a while.
15 songs in 44 mins. Frank was a punk. I’m listening in December so it’s quite Christmassy.
Arrangiamenti da manuale, tutto perfetto, tutto Sinatra. Ma si può dire monotono senza venire condannati a morte?
It's Sinatra. He's never not good. Not always my jam, but very good at being Sinatra-y.
Love ol’blue eyes!
Bra men lite enformig, finns en del guldkorn som how about you och alla kärlekslåtar
perfect when im in the mood for some ol’ blue eyes
Great, if a bit samey.
Nice for a rainy day
The music might seem repetitive, almost blending together, but I actually found that to be part of its charm. Sinatra’s smooth vocals and the laid-back melodies create a surprisingly relaxing vibe, perfect for unwinding.
It's Frank. Nuff said.
Liked it more than I thought
everything sinatra is great but only background music for me
Bardzo przyjemne. Można słuchać podczas romantycznych wieczorów. 4/5
Bright and breezy album. Listened to this on a sunny morning walk and it was perfect. Obviously stand out tracks are you make me feel so young and I’ve got you under my skin but there were plenty more that put a big smile on my face while I was listening. Will definitely be playing this album again.
Never particularly liked this kind of music , but it has aged better than a lot of stuff that came after.
The voice was the voice, of course. But Sinatra was also great at picking the songs that always seem to take it to another level. This is plain and simple an album for ALL lovers, not merely the "swingin'."
4/5
Obviously this is classic stuff. Too polished for me though. I prefer a bit of rawness a La Niña or Billie. Still some cracking stuff though
I full on feel like season 2 Mr Big with this playing in my yuppie NYC high rise apartment
3-4
Solid!
Every song is really good, but they all genuinely mesh into one so it's hard to distinguish them.
Ret cool og speciel lyd
On 'Songs for Swingin' Lovers!' Frank Sinatra captures the joyful and positive side of love. Even more significant is the contrast to 'In The Wee Small Hours,' an album I had a few months back on this list- released not even a year before this one - where Sinatra himself was lost and the album reflected that depressing sense of lost love. What a contrast! These two albums explore totally different themes, showcasing Sinatra's diversity. Where I am normally drawn to the darker side of music, this second album wins it on all fronts from the more melancholic Sinatra. His beautiful voice conveys relaxing emotions, and in 'Songs for Swingin' Lovers!' the musical accompaniment feels animated and full, as if a big band and brass section provide the necessary optimism. Nowhere on this 45 minute album does it get boring. While it's not my go-to choice of music, 'Songs for Swingin' Lovers!' is something I'll happily listen to.
Ol' Frankie baby! Smoother than a babies ass What's not to like here? I've always marvelled at the "simpler time" aesthetic Sinatra and this era presents. It was certainly a complex time replete with gambling, womanizing, sexism, and racism. Strange. Dig the album though.
Frank’s got a great voice, just no other way to put it. This isn’t my favorite of his (gotta go with Wee Small Hours) but it’s good.
I've loved this music for a long time, but it's wild how every song on this album sounds exactly the same.
9/10. One of my favourite jazz records. :)
I’ve heard many of these songs and those I hadn’t still felt very familiar. Frank is great and this was an easy, uplifting listen!
banger after banger this album has a lot of my favorite Sinatra songs, which I guess is just saying I prefer his versions of a lot of common pop songs around the time, but truly I don't think there's a faceplant on here besides Makin' Whoopee, which I guess was of its time but I struggle to imagine what life was like when we were saying that regularly. the band arrangements and performance are great, the songs are fun, I want to go to a social dance where they just play through this album
Always nice to hear a crooner. I enjoyed getting to hear some old jazz standards. A good time all around.
Absolutely love this style of music even though I do not listen to it regularly. There's something so warming about it that draws me in.
What a marvelous album. Beautiful, cozy, and romantic
Old, outdated, smooth, and awesome. It takes one back to decades earlier when crooners were king.
For all his good qualities what Blue Eyes had best was an immaculate taste. This record is a master class in doing the right thing for the moment. I'm more of a Dean Martain person from the Rat Pack and I'll take Ella or Vaugh over any of 'em, but I'm not going to let preference get in the way of recognizing a great thing when I hear it.
It’s actually pretty good.
Classic Ol Blue Eyes
Loved it. Absolutely classic, beautiful voice, unsurpassed.
Bluesy as hell.
Very enjoyable the whole way through, plenty of energy and great voice
Best Frank Sinatra album I’ve heard. A little bit on the long side with 15 songs, especially when the second half of the album starts to get repetitive. Would have been great if the album was cut in half. 7/10
It's interesting how commercials, years of needle drops in film and tv, all of it can degrade the full experience of an album. I've never listened to a Sinatra album all the way through, from start to finish. His voice, the arrangements. It's all gorgeous.
I thought I’d be bored by this. I wasn’t.
Love jazz so much and frank is a great jazz musician. Don’t love his voice though. Makes me want to dance. Very fun. Better then I expected from him
Way smoov renditions of some of the most classic standards. Not a whole lot of innovation here, but never hurts to be reminded of the timeless ones.
Good ol frank, smooth as butter
I listened to the 1998 remastered version of this album and I honestly can't say if it makes any difference to the original release. But the fact is: This 1956 album seems much better recorded than many from the following decade. The quality of the instrumentals is impressive. I had never heard an album from the 50s of such quality. And what about Sinatra? This man is synonymous with Love Songs. His voice is a landmark of the 40s and 50s that resonates to this day. The romanticism of his interpretations makes me travel to a time I've never been to and think: Where do we human beings go wrong? Where did all this romanticism and emotions go? Did all of this really die back then? I don't know. But this is the sensation conveyed by Sinatra's voice: A journey through time where the world was completely different from the one we live in.
Favorite Tracks: You Make Me Feel So Young I’ve Got You Under My Skin Anything Goes
Enjoyed that one!
Just a classy album.
These songs give me the feel of ones that have been Spotified. Short, quick to a hook and then on to the next. He’s a very charismatic singer and it’s clear why his music lives on.
Goated 1950s mobster type beat
Sinatra is obviously great but the band is very on point on this album too, just an all around enjoyable listen.
#2 About time I got around to Frank Sinatra! Really excited. Also this came out in 1956 which means this will also contribute to Listening to Music From Every Year since I haven't heard anything else from that year yet. Rating: 3.5 Wow I really really liked this, might even move it up to a 4 on repeat listens. Sinatra's voice is just amazing and it's hardly a matter of opinion. Although this is the first project I've listened to completely, it's not a total surprise since I've heard some songs before. Even without the amazing vocals and cheesy frozen in time lyrics that warm your heart, the orchestra backing Sinatra brings just as much to the table. Every instrument has perfect place weaving between the vocals and the sound quality for 1956 feels unreal! It honestly sounds more modern than a lot of albums I've heard despite this being the oldest album I've ever rated at the time of writing this. Great and really excited for more Sinatra.
с одной стороны классика и скучновато, с другой он завораживающе поёт, даже более хорни треки
Standard/great Frank album.
franked
Kominn a sinatra vagninn
2024-06-02...
I could get into this, maybe hanging out on Friday evening drinking martinis? I don't drink martinis and I don't plan on starting, so I will have to work out something else. It's mellow, it's chill, it's Frank's voice and phrasing.
4.5/5. Frankie Sinatra is too slick.
Definitely changed my opinion about Sinatra -- very enjoyable throughout
Swinging indeed, in the old fashioned sense. Frank at his best and I wouldn't want to be nearby if he slipped anything goes or making whoopee on the record player. Max croonation and close to a 5.
Wonderful
Consider me seduced.
Very nice and chill album. None of the songs were familiar but I still enjoyed the smooth jazzy vibes. I can only imagine how great this sounded more than 60 years ago (not sound-wise, but just music-wise).
The hits are extraordinary, some of the others were just a little more on the dull side and that stopped me from giving it that full 5. But god, no one sounds like Frank, do they?
Safe to say that no one is as celebrated as Frank Sinatra in the world of entertainers and crooners. The man could dance, he could sing, and he had the charm to go long with that. While his foray into movies was moderately successful, it is his music and singing that remains a consistent addition to ambiance, or feel-good nostalgia. This album is no exception, except for including the hits "I've Got You Under My Skin" and "You Make Me Feel So Young" which we can hear from nearly any movie based in or taking place in Las Vegas, or any background to a romantic comedy. Mr. Sinatra's cultural significance plays a part here in qualifying for this book, and for that the reviewer is in agreement.
Great album
Swings
Swinging fun
i heart frank sinatra
Loved
of course i love frank sinatra he sounds smooth and lovely but it is a lot of the same.
Easily Frank's best. Wonderful songs, tight, clever arrangements and Frank doesn't overdo it, as he'w wont to do.
Oh, sure, it's corny, it's cliché, it's... Another thing I had on the tip of my tounge that starts with "C" that I forgot. But darn it, that's what I wanted this album to be and that's what makes it so good. It's just such a delight, between Sinatra's voice and the arrangements. Man, neat my group got the Sinatra album that **isn't** depressing first, anyway.
Some classic crooning from one of the greats.
oh man, the chairman! Ol' Blue Eyes! A classic for sure, not my everyday taste but still just puts you in a certain mood
If I closed my eyes it felt like I was drinking whiskey in a smoky lounge.
4/5 Loved it :)
Some really great old songs on this disc.
As a Fallout fan, this is fab! Liked songs: Anything Goes, I've Got You Under My Skin
Great album
Listened to some songs - solid album, makes me feel all warm and cozy.
Love this album. So complex with the band and then the iconic voice of Frank.
Hey, it's Sinatra
You can’t go wrong with Frank. I’m a sucker for anything with horns, so this is a real nice and easy listen
Standard love songs filtered through the smooth phrasing of Sinatra hard to go wrong.
As a casual Frank Sinatra enjoyer I really liked this. Very good background music for mooching around the house doing chores, relaxing, reading a book - just has that homely vibe.
Can’t beat a bit of Ol’ Blue Eyes; so effortlessly smooth. There was singing, dancing and jazz hands when the brass called for it. Marvellous.
good album with good tracks all around, really wholesome love songs
#feelgood #soul
Really good album. Surprisingly good to run to.
This fella gets about a bit doesn't he. Makes a good album but his todger must be rotten.
Comme du miel liquide
Un album endimanché pour séduire des auditeurs et auditrices, des arrangements riches et une ambiance soyeuse
Sinatra doing what he does best, a lot of good songs. My only complaint is that all of the songs start to sound the same by the end.
Legendary singer. Every song was the exact same but they were all pleasant to listen to.
Listened to this while playing Inventions. Pretty sure I'll lose spectacularly again. Yeah, this album was pretty solid. Lots of very familiar tunes, and a couple of arrangements I was previously unfamiliar with. Definitely a good Sunday afternoon album...except today is Thursday.
Nice
Classic
It’s hard to believe that this album is nearly 70 years old. It’s so clean and pure sounding. There is no other male singer with a more perfect voice. He’s the best. Classic yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
Classic Sinatra
Overall, good music in that old pop style. I have no idea what ‘Makin’ Whoopee’ is, though, and I don’t think I want to.
Favourite tracks: I've got you under my skin; you make me feel so young; it happened in Monterey
Swing away, baby. 4
Always a blessing to listen to Frank Top tracks: You Make Me Feel So Young, I’ve Got You Under My Skin
i love frank sinatra.
This album is awesome, it’s atmospheric, instrumental, with beautiful singing and catchy lyrics. But all the songs are a very similar: everything and nothing stood out
cant believe this dude was real
This is probably going to be an unpopular opinion, but Sinatra is over rated. He has a good voice, but that's all he has to offer. All the credit for this album should go to the musicians and composer. Seriously you could take the vocals away making this an instrumental and it would still be amazing.
The Voice alone is 5 stars. If it not were for the lack of variety along the album... I would give it 5 stars as well... I know I've got you under my skin deserves more but I'm staying at 4.
Pleasantly surprised by this. Sinatra really knew how to set a mood! The instrumentals sound dated but charming. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of idyllic lovers. And Sinatra's voice? Simply captivating, exuding undeniable personality.
classic, swinging, big band
# Playlist track - I've got you under my skin # Notes - It's Frank Sinatra, so it cannot be terrible. But it's not great either. - All tracks are a bit too much the same. It's a pleasant listen, constant, fun. Just not great.
One of the gold standard albums of lounge-room music of the 40s-60s, this is Sinatra at his best. Outside You Make Me Feel So Young and I've Got You Under My Skin, it's full of really fun standards of the era/style. That said, it gets to be a bit much by the end of this album for anyone who isn't a huge Sinatra fan.
Simply great music, even if it has been made cheesy by Hollywood. Can't deny how well made it is.
Great start, I love Sinatra
Kate Capshaw performed Anything Goes better.
The Chairman of the Board! Timeless classics! Thoroughly enjoyed his music!
Classic Frank. Very good.
classic; didn't know pennies from heaven was from this album!
My era music
- Nothing "new," but these classics are classics for a reason. The Chairman of the Board could croon, no doubt about that. - All are relaxing to listen to, even if 90% of the tracks are essentially identical. - Between the album title and a couple of the track names (lookin' at you, "Makin' Whoopee)...a lot of immature giggles.
sødt, hyggeligt at sidde og høre - godt til baggrund, nok meget godt til en hyggelig middag
Such an amazing set of classics. Certainly can listen straight through and there are some incredible stand-outs.
Not for me
I just find myself enjoying every song that he sings even though that is certainly not the best version of “Pennies From Heaven”
3.75
Always love Frank but not sure this is his best. Good for dinner parties
Just a timeless classic swing album from Ol Blue Eyes. Musically in the wee small hours is better, but this is still a great album of the genre and deserves to be on the list and in my frequent rotation when I’m in the mood for a bit of swing.
Frank is cool
Good and relaxing album
Reseña en motion 😭😭😭
Mr. Sinatra can sing anything, all day long and I'd be cool with it. Maybe the people who have been listening for 50-60+ years could be getting tired of it, but I'm just on the top of the old blue eyes iceberg. This is only my second album from Frank so I'm not sure if they are all basically one theme or if this is just a collection album of the love-type songs like Weird Al's food album, but at any rate it is an easy listen from start to finish with a couple recognizable tracks. I feel like there are better albums yet to come on this list so I'm potentially unfairly keeping from the 5/5 category which I maybe gave out too frequently to start. Favorite track "I've got you under my skin" 4.4/5
This was a classic Sinatra album. I loved making whoopee.
i <3 frank what a goat ong my hero cant go wrong really he just has a majestic voice man only complaint it all just kinda feels like the same song still not bad tho like i dont think theres an objectively bad song
Sinatra was brilliant at phrasing and pacing. He told stories with his voice. I’m not a big fan of this style of big band, but it’s a great album.
Yes
Das ist wieder mal schwierig. Bestimmt ein guter Sänger, aber ich werde mir das wohl nicht nochmal anhören - mittlerweile doch ziemlich alt. Vote 4
Love the classics
If you're going to own one Sinatra Album, you probably would be satisfied with this one--all the songs he's famous for, with that swingin' Big Band sound. He's never really been one of my favorite artists, mostly because he was old and the subject of parodies and jokes by the time I came around.
You Make Me Feel So Young: 4/5 It Happened In Monterey: 4/5 You're Getting To Be A Habit With Me: 4/5 You Brought A New Kind Of Love To Me: 4/5 Too Marvelous For Words: 4/5 Old Devil Moon: 4/5 Pennies From Heaven: 4/5 Love Is Here To Stay: 4/5 I've Got You Under My Skin: 4/5 I Thought About You: 4/5 We'll Be Together Again: 4/5 Makin' Whoopee: 5/5 Swingin' Down The Lane: 4/5 Anything Goes: 4/5 How About You?: 4/5 Avg.: 4.1
Just some classic, inoffensive love songs. No complaints.
It's Frank
These were American Standards that Sinatra made even more standard. I knew every dang one of the songs, even though I doubt I've listened to this album before. The songs on this album, as sung by Sinatra, have permeated American culture. If you're familiar with the original versions of them, you can see how the arrangement matters. For instance, I've Got You Under My Skin is a Cole Porter song from a movie in 1936. All the lyrics and melody are exactly the same. They are entirely different songs. The original is a bit of a slog. If we're ranking on influence? This is a 5. I'm dropping it to a 4 for personal taste. But I'll pick Frank's versions over the originals 8 times out of 10.
I can’t believe that we as a society allowed the phrase Makin’ Whoopee to be acceptable. 3.5/5
Sinatra has a great voice and the emotion he signs with comes through and seems genuine. I enjoy the upbeat swing music. This is high quality for what it is.
I remember seeing this album in my Dad’s collection but I never listened to it. It was pretty good. Sinatra had a terrific voice and the musicians are first-rate on this release, although they didn’t get to stretch out much. 4stars
So classy Love it
Classic Sinatra and a great album if you're looking for "that" vibe
Frank has a great voice, songs are catchy but a tad repetitive
Frank's a terrific singer, and the arrangements are great! The songs are kinda dated, but there are some gems. The orchestra is excellent, I found myself listening to them more than usual. Glad to hear a recording of this genre. I was tired of metal and alt rock.
I liked it
A bit uneventful but totally pleasant. it does not feel long at all. great one.
Struggled with rating a 3 or a 4 but that voice and the band. Had to go 4.
This feels like Sinatra at the top of his game
Classic Sinatra
Upbeat standards sung by the iconic Sinatra. An easy listen for anyone who enjoys that style of jazz. The only real downside is that there's a song on here called "Makin' Whoopee" and I can't imagine a less sexy song about sex. Anyway, incredible production for the 50's. Nothing less for the fantastic Sinatra.
his voice is just classic. solid album.
Enjoy Frank, never heard many of the tune
iconic voice + i really like swing music
I love big band swing and old school crooners!
Loved it, it’s Frank! Lots of songs I hadn’t heard before and some covers I didn’t know he did
Classic Frank. Unfamiliar songs to me but the quintessential Frank Sinatra sound and vibe. Listened while raking leaves. 4 star. Loved it.
Excellent musicianship. I'd have to be in the mood, but would definitely listen to this again.
Listening to this reminds me how much warmer recorded songs were before multi track recording. Sounds so good!
If you like Frank
Happy, positive. Nice vibe.
Timeless sound.
Sound exactly like you'd think an album named 'Songs For Swingin' Lovers' would sound.
Sinatra makes it sound so easy. Easy listening in the best ways—smooth, natural, mellow, effortless, in-the-flow. It’s not that easy. Sinatra just sells it so well we keep believing it can be. Don’t be fooled: this is a master craftsman at work with Nelson Riddle laying down an expert foundation at every turn. If “You Make Me Feel So Young” and “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” were the only standout tracks here, then “Songs for Swingin’ Lovers!” would be worth the listen. Turns out every track offers something to the equation and swings in its own way. Sinatra has always been able to thread the needle between the pop, jazz, nightclub, dance, and vocal standards genres. That this record came out and captured attention in ‘56, the year Elvis and Rock and Roll broke open popular music, is an astounding feat to consider. My one beef: Unsuccessful album cover. Sinatra illustration looms creepily in the background looking as if he needs immediate medical attention (more true on the AppleMusic version).
Franks exciting spin on love songs and more. We love making Whoopie!
Classic Sinatra. Not my usual style but I enjoyed the album
This was fun! I was familiar with several songs, but I had never listened to Sinatra intentionally before
fun old timey music
Smooth, easy listening. Appropriate for almost any mood.
Cool sound. Somewhat repetitious sound but still very soothing. Listened to the whole album.
One of those albums I put on during a rainy-day's breakfast, playing in the background. And that's a compliment! The Chairman did create a lot of great albums during his creative years in the 50ies and 60ies, but this one surely beats them all.
I enjoyed getting to know this phase for Sinatra
DIDNT HAVE TO SKIP ANY OF THEM.
За овај жанр јако лепо 8/10
Ok.
Good vibes.
I do enjoy some Frank Sinatra, even if a lot of it does sound similar. Also gives me Fallout New Vegas vibes.
Fun. Also, make whoopie
the original OG
Lovely, makes me want to be in a Nora Ephron film in New York in Winter
4/5
I love his voice but I will never not associate him with Christmas songs. Stand-out: You Make Me Feel So Young
Classic!
O muzică de fundal ideală. Love Frankutzu
I love ol' blue eyes. Smoooooooth.
Listened Before? N Typical Sinatra. Amazing singing and well arranged. Love the full orchestra sound. Absolutely killer version of IGYUMS. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: I've Got You Under My Skin
Songs are very similar, but nonetheless are very heartfelt and easy
meh
His voice that everyone know without knowing its him, the album is just a good swin like the titled, you feel in a 50's movie and you just imagine the floor in a dance hall in the 50's, its a cool vibe. Its just a jazzy-pop reccord, from Sinatra, and its crazy he was already 20 years into his carrer he was already like 45 at that time. Its just strong voice, jazz instrument, piano and that it. Sinatra is a symbol, from the ol' time america, the america that we see in old movie, maybe its good maybe its wrong but it sound good so whatever. You make me feel so young, you're getting to be a habbit with me, love is here to stay and i thought about you are the bets track i belived.
This album is a bundle of songs for lovers of swingin'. About lovers. Who do swingin' ... Probably in the old/original sense of the word. With this disarming honesty, I can't find a flaw in a composition/thematic sense. Every song is pleasant, but the album does not feature any hits besides "I've got you under my skin"
Classic Sinatra! It’s nice to hear his younger voice out of all the available options; although, he’s 40 in this album. And it’ll be 24 years after this that he’ll release New York, New York. Frank Sinatra’s work has aged like a fine whiskey.
Was nice
Chill å løpe til
Sinatra's best album will always be 'In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning' which captures the melancholy swing at best. This one here is great too with some of his most famous tunes. But these days one might deem it a bit much of a rather standard collection of songs.
Album 219 of 1001 Frank Sinatra - Songs for Swingin' Lovers Rating : 5 / 5 Favorite Track : You Make Me Feel So Young / Anything Goes etc, etc.... This is the first album on the list of 1001. While this specific album isn't one I know well, I've had Frank's music in my collection for 40 years. One of my favorites and always happy to listen to more. This has some of him at this best. One of my favorite genres. Don't make me choose. Songs for Swingin' Lovers! is the tenth album by American singer Frank Sinatra and his fourth for Capitol Records. It was arranged by Nelson Riddle and released in March 1956 on LP and January 1987 on CD. It was the first album ever to top the UK Albums Chart.
Great songs for for singing to while driving
The fourth album... he recorded for Capitol Records. I really like that the songs remind me of some of the movies of my youth, like the HItchcock movies or It's A Wild Wild Wild World, or What's up Doc... All brass and drums...
I think we all know what we get with Frank Sinatra. This set is no different, but definitely keeps a core jazzy-hip vibe that lends itself to a feeling of cool if you let it take over. Enjoyed.
It's sometimes hard for me to listen to Sinatra, as I've heard many stories that he was not a nice guy, and he was basically just a pop star of the era - a person that had a bunch of other people writing good songs for him, and he just had a nice voice (I also may like Tony Bennett's voice better). But, I find listening to this album or some of Sinatra's other stuff rather soothing at times. They are mostly very good songs, composed and recorded well, and it's pleasant to listen to. Of course, this music was monumental for the time, and it has stood the test of time, due to the compositions and being recorded very well.
Very enjoyable - strong vocal melodies and clever arrangements
Þessi plata hljómar eins og best of Frankie boy.
good
Sinatra swingin'! His voice is so iconic, the jazzy big band is exuberant.
Franky frank
The Elvis Presley of Classic pop/jazz/swing. His music still holds up. While I do not seek it out, was wonderful background music while working.
Whole album is warm and comfortable. I'm not mature enough to listen to a song titled Makin Whoopee objectively with a straight face.
Use your mentality Wake up to reality Frank’s spitting hot bars here, fellas. I quite enjoyed this. My daughter came in when I was listening and said it sounded like Christmas music. I’m telling you, I am going to have a banging non-Christmas Christmas playlist this holiday season. Keep ‘em coming!
Might change this after I hear his other albums on the list (because surely at least one deserves a 5, right?) but I'll leave this here for now.
Obviously there's not a lot of variety here, but I love Sinatra. Immaculately warm vibes. Best song: I've Got You Under My Skin
Probably one of the top 10 singers even to this day.
Lovely singing by Sinatra. The instrumentalists were a joy as well. This album felt like Christmas day and being at a wedding all in one, definitely ooey gooey and sentimental… But not in a completely bad way, kind like a “I’m lucky to be in love” way.
Love it
Pretty good - I like this album, I just think it's so similar to his other works that I'm not swept away. Some really good songs on here tho. Probably great to swing dance to tho, that I cannot deny.
Always a nostalgic listen
Seems like a good album, it’s the first time I’ve sat through at least some of a Frank Sinatra project. It’s remastered so some of the authenticity is taken away however his voice sounds pretty impeccable.
Passabler swinging Jazz. Wunderbar fürs Wohnzimmer.
Classic Sinatra The arrangements are absolutely sublime and Frank’s vocals are (of course) on top form here Favourite tracks: You Make Me Feel So Young, It Happened In Monterey, Too Marvelous For Words, I’ve Got You Under My Skin
Man. This is just so good. This old school crooning really is something special.
The most Sinatra I've ever heard at one time, I liked it.
Sinatra good as always
Happy driving tunes
Nothing beats some classic Sinatra Favorite songs: You Make Me Feel So Young, It Happened in Monterey, Our Love is Here to Stay, I’ve Got You Under My Skin
Sinatra is a spectacular performer. His smooth, soulful delivery combines perfectly with the big band jazz/swing styles accompanying his vocals. The arrangements can start to become dull in places as the scales and motifs are similar across most of the tracks but the solo sections and songwriting, as well as Sinatra’s excellent performance, make this album enjoyable throughout.
Starts off strong with "You Make Me Feel So Young." I kind of liked "Old Devil Moon." Even though I like the genre overall, the album sounds very much the same throughout.
I liked it... how about you? Razzle dazzle me Frank!
In "It Happened In Monterey", Sinatra tellingly speaks of his love interest in the third person. These songs are not for swingin' lovers; "You Make Me Feel So Young", "You're Getting To Be A Habit With Me" and "You Brought A New Kind Of Love To Me" are all misdirections; for Sinatra is not really addressing women, he is addressing men. Woman, for Sinatra, is a man's vessel for his affection, not an autonomous being with her own thoughts and wishes; she is a prop. Men are his true target. Sinatra's singing is impersonal, free from messy histories and aired skeletons. His male audience are free to project their own fantasies and uncomfortable lives upon his songs. Sinatra seduces men in, by allowing them to believe that they can be as dapper, delectable and debonair; wear a fedora like he can, romance like he can, croon to the moon like he can. And boy, oh boy, do I wish I could.
I guess I'm a Swingin' Lover
It’s a perfect vibe match! This album was generated on a cold autumn morning and sounds exactly like that
"existing pop standards in a hipper, jazzier fashion"; Classic Sinatra from 50s. 4.
4 stars
Great. Vastly talented. Made me wanna ear pasta
It's frank Sinatra. Swing with a capital S.
Frank is almost always a good time. Honestly, I usually just listen to hits from Frank but this was solid.
A more traditional Sinatra album that features some of his biggest songs. It's classic, timeless, the voice as smooth as silk. I get in the mood for this type of music in the fall/winter, so the timing was just right! 8 out of 10
It's Sinatra crooning to love songs, so you know it's predictable and incredibly enjoyable.
Wonderful arrangements, so much more depth than the equivalent Buble. Effortlessly cool.
Classic.
Probably some of Franks most known songs on this album. Love a little Frankie time. Under My Skin might be my new favorite Frank song. My only issue with listening to Sinatra is that a lot of his songs sound really similar. They are very refined and maybe the best of his style, but there's nothing unexpected about his music.
Sweet, kind of cheesy. Puts me in a good mood
Such a vibe, I understand the hype of Sinatra now 🤩
Very enjoyable chill album to listen to first time I’ve ever properly listened to frank Sinatra might give a few other albums a listen!!
Presque de la musique classique à ce stade. Satisfaisant mais ça manque de relief
